Someone once told me that creativity translates. And I’ve used that exact phrase so many times since starting Style Me Pretty. I see photographers that are incredibly talented at event design, florist that are amazing photographers, stationery artists that are accomplished stylists. It’s fascinating to see how creativity can be executed in a million different ways, all centered around the artist’s unique perspective.
Well such is the case with today’s featured affair. Emily, the gorgeous bride, is the founder of Frenchie and Flea…an adorable line of paper goods and accessories over on etsy. Her sense of style is so charming, filled with personality and flair…and it translates beautifully from invitation design to planning her own perfect wedding.

We adored the quaint and historic white church on the hill…it was a sweet and perfectly intimate setting for our personal ceremony. The reception was a great contrast to the vintage church. It was held at a festive Mexican Restaurant on the water’s edge, overlooking the San Francisco skyline, and really set the tone for the party!I love to craft and create, and I desperately wanted my wedding to reflect my passion for handmade. My vision evolved over our long(ish) engagement, and the key to not getting overwhelmed with all of the inspiration out there (blogs, wedding mags, etsy, etc.) was to keep online photo albums of all my ideas. I would add things that I loved, and would weekly or monthly go through everything I had collected and edit. Sometimes a few months would go by and I would notice my taste was starting to move in a different direction…and I was totally OK with that! In the end, I paired my ideas down to the things that I loved the most and diligently worked on executing those.

We love simple, and I believe less is more, so I focused my creative energy on the elements that were important to me: the candy bar, the wish jar, the tablescapes, the pillows on the benches, the handmade wreaths, etc. With the help of some extremely talented friends, my wedding was crafted together with lots of love and care, and the result was simply perfect. Paper rosettes, vintage seam binding ribbon flowing in the wind, mercury glass, framed pictures…it was vintage + modern with a handmade twist. Simple, playful, layered with lots of textures and materials, and most importantly warm & welcoming. I wanted our guests to feel like they could relax and feel at home…which was why both our venues and our decor were playful, comfortable, and not over-the-top. Plus, the breathtaking view of San Francisco from the restaurant and church was an amazing focal point (and FREE) and became the inspiration for the invitations and website.

All the printed material was designed and created by myself and my business partner and bridesmaid, Allegra. We started Frenchie & Flea earlier this year, and are constantly striving to inspire and be inspired by all of the creative women in the etsy/blog/wedding world. The designs from my wedding are in our etsy shop now! Etsy was a HUGE resource. I purchased vintage seam binding ribbon, vintage hankies, the bridesmaid lockets, the flower girl tutus and shoes, and plenty of crafting supplies from etsy vendors. I loved being able to utilize and support the wonderful artisans and crafters out there…I think it added such personality and thoughtful touches to our overall look!
My dear family friend (who’s more like an aunt) Bobbie did all the gorgeous flowers. She was my sounding board for all of my creative ideas and whims, and the creations she made for my special day were unbelievably perfect. The hair accessories were created by my bridesmaid Amanda.
After going through the wedding process, I would love to encourage all the brides-to-be out there to stay true to their hearts as they plan their special day. I love that traditional rules are being thrown out the window these days, and that brides feel like they can do (or do without) the things that are actually important to THEM. If you want to be married by a friend, do it. If you want to throw the wedding cake out the window and serve ice cream sandwiches, do it. You get the idea…..old-school traditions that mean nothing are OUT and being true to your own unique ideals and style are IN, and I LOVE IT!
