Jewel Tone Forest Wedding Inspiration

With the first few whispers of fall, we’re happily welcoming those rich, lavish jewel tones that peek their pretty way onto our pages each time this year. Deep shades like emerald, lapis and amethyst that are layered in this slice of inspiration from Heather Cook ElliottTailored Engagements and daffodil*parker. Head to The Vault for even more jeweled-hued goodness!

From Heather Cook Elliott PhotographyAs planners and photographers we work and live in the city, love a glammed out high heel, can’t resist a black bow tie paired with a slim cut tux and delight in pretending we are in Paris when munching on a macaroon. Still, the woods often call out to us, begging to be wandered and enjoyed while offering a cool respite from the city heat and sun. So while we love a classic cathedral ceremony and a warehouse reception, we adore an outdoor wedding – so we set out to dream of a wooded wedding that is anything but rustic.

Through the use of mixed metals-I can’t get enough of copper-flowing flower arrangements – and lush jewel tones we brought a sophisticated but utterly romantic palette to the forest and let it all play out. Our custom created table and bench has intricate herringbone details throughout contrasting with mid-century modern inspired metal legs to build on a polished style softened just a bit by mismatched gold china and stunning agate place cards. Classic black chiavari chairs played host to copper Mr & Mrs signs for the couple and oversized drippy, romantic florals in shades of cream, garnet and emerald upped the wow factor when paired with tall flickering taper candles. Still, everything feels so accessible and perhaps even a bit DIY as tiny details showed off the exquisite vision of Amanda & Julie of Tailored Engagements : gilded macaroons and hand painted cookies play into the handmade watercolor-esque invite suite featured. Fern leaves weave in and out and statement jewelry for the bridesmaid reminds us all that it’s all about the green surroundings. Everyone looks great in a little black dress but the bridesmaid’s was made to be anything but boring with the delicate lace detailing on the back and gold detailing in the bodice. Hailey Page took our breath away again with the stunner as seen on the bride and for our groom, I think we can all agree that a black bowtie will never go out of style. All in all the effect is enchanting- a little intoxicating, even – and totally calls for a moscow mule to cool off with.

Rustic + Romantic Wisconsin Barn Wedding

Weddings are all about special moments, and this rustic affair is full of them. From the Bride and Groom’s sharing sweet love letters to each other before their first look to her Grandfather’s toast to his wife of 60 years and love at first sight, this day will make you smile (so will the stunning Tara Keely for JLM Couture wedding dress!). See it all from Kate Weinstein here.

From Kate Weinstein PhotoBrooke & Tristan were married at the gorgeous Farm at Dover, located between Milwaukee and Chicago.

Brooke and her maids got ready in the beautifully decorated house on the Farm at Dover’s property. Brooke wore a low-back dress by Tara Keeley, and her wild bouquet of peach, yellow, and lavender flowers perfectly complemented the navy dresses (and navy polka dot shoes) her bridesmaids wore.

Before their first look, Brooke and Tristan read side by side the love letters they had written one another. It was such a sweet moment and one of my favorites from their day.

Brooke & Tristan’s reception toasts were unique in that each person in their wedding party, their parents, and their grandparents gave toasts to the newlyweds.

In two especially memorable toasts, Brooke’s sister wrote her speech as a song, and sang her guitar-accompanied toast, and Brooke’s Grandpa spoke about how it was love at first sight when he first saw his wife of almost 60 years and Brooke’s grandma. “The first time I saw her I said that’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.. Sixty years later, I still think she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”

There were also some DIY’ed items from the day: the Groom made the invitations and programs, the bride and groom made their own favors (honey jars), and did their own flower center pieces, and family members provided the music.

Adorably Romantic Wisconsin Engagement Session

Look up “lovebirds” in the SMP dictionary and these cuties are who you’ll see. Full of natural light and lots of laughs, this engagement shoot by Carly McCray could warm even the coldest of hearts. Check them all out to get your daily dose of happiness and hit up the Vault for even more pre-wedding pics!

From Carly McCray Photography… Lindsay and Jake!!! This engagement session deserves exclamations because Lindsay and Jake came up from their home in Chicago for their engagement session with me in the tall pines of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, also known as my happy place and where I call home.

I loved hearing about their story as a couple… long distance for years between Minnesota and Chicago, and a proposal secretly in front of their closest friends on a bridge in the city. (Sigh!)

They will be kicking off 2016 with a New Year’s Eve winter wedding in Lake Geneva, and I cannot wait to be a part of their celebration. Let the countdown begin!

From Christy Janeczko PhotographyIt was a perfect Midwest day, complete with fluffy clouds a gorgeous barn venue and a couple about to celebrate their 8th year of marriage. Danielle and Kevin are high school sweethearts and have been together 14 years and just welcomed their second son.

When I started dreaming about a summer shoot back at the end of February Danielle and Kevin were the first couple I wanted to contact about an anniversary shoot because of just how in love they are with each other. We wanted to create a romantic boho chic look with a rustic backdrop as the rustic theme is still very popular in the Midwest yet leaving behind the burlap, mason jars and babies breath that is also still very popular. We knew we wanted soft, lovely florals topped off with a stunning floral crown. No detail was overlooked and the macaroons were even created by hand by the wedding photographer.

In the afternoon just as hair and makeup were being finished on Danielle the storm clouds rolled in and gave us a healthy dousing of torrential rain, wind and hail that covered the ground like a November snowstorm. We huddled by the barn doors waiting for the dark clouds and danger to pass and the sun eventually showed her lovely self for some amazing evening buttery light. All in all it was a magical day fit for the love of Danielle & Kevin.

From Emily KatharineWords can’t express how perfect this wedding day was. I will admit, I was nervous for this one. I get nervous before every wedding, but for this wedding, I was a lot more nervous than usual. Part of it was the traveling and flight. Part of it was a new camera. Part of it was never having seen the venue before. Part of it was the ominous weather. And a big part of it was that this was one of my closest friend’s weddings.

We arrived at Kimberly’s parent’s home in the morning, and the first thing I noticed was how lush Wisconsin was. Everything seemed so alive and so green! It was so stunning! We watched the girls get their hair and makeup done. I loved how Kimberly wore a pair of mismatched plaid pajamas. She’s so down to earth. Her hair was curled and tousled. All of her bridesmaids (three of which were here sisters) had put on their taupe wrap dresses and helped Kimberly into her gorgeous lace dress.

Just ten minutes before the ceremony started, we hopped onto the bus and made our way to Holy Cross Parish. The service was filled with beautiful music and thoughtful remarks. One thing I wasn’t expecting was how much laughter there was! Father Marcos came all the way from Andres’s home state of New Mexico to deliver the service.

After the ceremony, the wedding group headed to Green Bay Country Club for the reception. The group let us borrow a zillion golf carts and the wedding party had a blast riding around on the course. Everything was lush. Everything was green. It was so organic and natural – I had to pinch myself!

We got back to the club house in time for cocktail hour. Guests were sipping on lavender cocktails and placing their thumbprints on Kimberly and Andres’s guest book.

As the guests made their way to the tent for dinner, I could hear the gasps. The reception was stunning. Three chandeliers hung from the tent – the center one emitting a warm glow from mason jars. The tables were lined with wine bottles and loose flowers. White rustic chairs welcomed guests to sit down at their place. To top it off, the tent smelled divine. I’ve never had a bride that focused so much on scents – the rosemary, the lavender, and the sweet sugar from the cupcake table. My heart was so full.

Dinner was delicious. The toasts were short and sweet (referencing Kimberly’s Disney Princess hair and Andres’s Crest smile – so true!). And all eyes moved to the dance floor for Andres and Kimberly’s first dance to ‘500 Miles.’

The rest of the night was a blur, between dances, toasts, cutting the cake (with a knife that snapped), polka dances, and laughter. Towards the end of the night, Kimberly and Andres played the “shoe game.” The DJ called out questions, such as “Who was the first to say ‘I love you’” or “Who is the better cook” and Kimberly and Andres would lift the corresponding shoe to represent their answer. I’ll just say that it was hilarious to watch them squirm, and the crowd go wild at the responses!

It was such a perfect day filled with romantic details and sweet moments cherished by all.

Romantic Lake Geneva Wedding in Wisconsin

From the Bride’s vintage veil to the puppy place cards, this lakeside affair is bursting with heartfelt details. Romantic and sophisticated, Kristina Lorraine Photography captured every detail and it’s waiting for you here!

From the beautiful Bride… Growing up, my family had fond memories of trips to Lake Geneva; we knew it would be the perfect wedding destination to share with our closest family and friends. After choosing our venue, we learned that Brian’s parents honeymooned at the very same resort. It was truly meant to be!

When Brian and I started to plan our wedding, we wanted to keep the weekend intimate and personal. We set out to include as much of what and who we loved as possible. I chose to walk down the aisle on our wedding day wearing my mother’s veil (the same veil she wore 32 years earlier), along with my maternal grandmother and great-grandmother’s jewelry. We were also fortunate to have our only living grandparent in attendance at the wedding, where we celebrated her 83rd birthday and served her famous cookies along with the family recipe.

Not only were we able to incorporate these relatives, but also our favorite furry family member – our dog, Penny. Penny was instrumental in Brian’s proposal and although she did not attend the wedding, she made an appearance in the form of Penny-shaped place cards.

To make this event even more special (or as Brian says ‘one helluva party’), we enlisted some spectacular vendors. Our unique venue, the Grand Geneva Mountain Top Ski Chalet, was transformed with the most beautiful spring flowers created by Frontier Flowers of Fontana. While flowers bloomed outside, they also hung throughout the venue to create the intimate party we’d dreamed of. The additional decor we selected helped us pull together an elegant and classic environment for our celebration and our band, Soda, kept the dance floor packed all night long!

We feel blessed that we can say we had our perfect wedding. We couldn’t have asked for anything more – thanks mom and dad!

Grecian Aphrodite-Inspired Bridal Shoot

Gorgeous? Well that doesn’t even begin to describe the achingly beautiful captures from Willow & Stone Photography. Not. even. close. I mean, anytime you mix the talents of Canvas Weddings with the mastery of  Alluring Blooms the results are bound to send anyone into a Pinterest frenzy, and you can get started right here!

From Corinne Van Arsdale of Canvas WeddingsI have always been fascinated by Greek mythology, and particularly with Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beauty and pleasure. So many mythological deities have seemingly one-dimensional personality traits or skills — but not Aphrodite. She was said to be beautiful and infinitely desirable, as she was born of a god and the sea, but she was also a warrior, a schemer and a savior. This duality was ultimately the inspiration behind this shoot — Aphrodite is beautiful, soft and graceful, but she is also powerful and strong. We wanted this shoot to celebrate the strength and beauty of women — which is why we chose to place three women at the center of this wedding universe.

While we wanted this shoot to be clearly inspired by Greek mythology, we wanted to avoid designing a “theme” wedding. From the beginning, we wanted to design a wedding environment that evoked the opulence of the mythology in a modern, contemporary way that midwestern brides would want to replicate at their own weddings. For that reason, we avoided putting our models in predictable chiffon, draped gowns, and opted instead for body-skimming formal gowns with lace or jeweled details. We also chose dinnerware and stationery with a slightly modern edge to bring this world into the 21st century.

Once we had our primary inspiration in the character of Aphrodite, we turned to Greek antiquity to gather ideas for our design. First, we needed a location — and we almost immediately settled upon the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum in Milwaukee, a villa built by a Milwaukee architect in 1923 that is situated right on the shores of Lake Michigan. The villa’s sprawling gardens and Italian Renaissance-inspired architecture were perfect backdrops on which we based our designs.

We took or cues from Renaissance art of Greek mythology when determining our color palette — lush greens, delicate blush, champagnes, ivories and hints of gold. We wanted the colors to evoke the decadence of Greek mythology as well as the obvious reverence for nature in their worship practices. This we achieved by combined lush and bountiful greenery and blooms with light gold leafing in the bouquets, table garland and ceremony arrangements.

All other details, from the lace robe to the dynamic hairstyles, dramatic ceremony draping and the lush draped chairs were inspired by the duality of Aphrodite’s softness and her strength.
This vision of beauty and strength was brought to life with the help of many of Wisconsin’s best wedding artists, including Willow & Stone Photography, Alluring Blooms, Jaxie and Sugar River Stationers. Many, many thanks go to Bloom Bake Shop, The Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum. A La Crate Vintage Rentals, The Rock Agency, Event Essentials and Sevva Salon for their contributions to this shoot.

Rustic Outdoor Autumn Wedding in Wisconsin

I’m not much of a gambler, but after reading this couple’s daring decision of planning an outdoor October ceremony in Wisconsin without a weather plan B, well it got me a little anxious. That is, until I saw the stunning outcome captured by Audre Rae. Graced with gorgeous Daffodil Parker blooms, Canvas Weddings details and gown that demands a second look, you can see it all unfold here!

From Canvas WeddingsMelanie and Dan’s wedding was, from a planner’s perspective, kind of a gamble. They planned their event to be completely outdoors, without any back up shelter plans, in October….in Wisconsin. Their wedding day was chilly, and early in the day there were even hints of snow and rain, but boy — their gambling paid off BIG time — this day was one of the highlights of my wedding season.

Melanie and Dan’s wedding was pure laid-back, outdoorsy sophistication. Both Melanie and Dan’s dogs played prominent roles in the ceremony (one with a bowtie and the other in a floral collar!), guests dined on pizza prepared onsite in a traveling brick oven, their gorgeous harvest tables were draped in decadent greenery garlands, soft café lighting lit the park, the couple shared a champagne toast with their guests during the ceremony, and Melanie carried the most beautiful, wild bouquet I’ve ever seen. All of these elements combined to create a wedding environment that was cozy, warm and oh-so-very-beautiful.

I love when a couple’s wedding feels like an extension of who they are — and this wedding was that, to a tee. Melanie and Dan seemed so at home and so in love on this perfect autumnal, outdoorsy wedding day. I wish with all my heart that all of my couples would create their wedding days this way — creating a space and time where they can be their most true, most happy selves.

From the beautiful Bride… This day did not come easily. All the planning was done from over a state away, while we were in the midst of job searching, applying to grad schools, facilitating a cross-country move, starting new jobs and going back to school. Overall, it was quite a struggle. Then, on the morning of, I woke up and saw that it was snowing. Knowing that we had only planned for an outdoor ceremony and reception (to hell with back up plans, right?), I couldn’t help but laugh. With that laughter, all of the anxiety and stress just washed away, replaced with a sense of calmness and readiness.

Our florist (Daffodil Parker) actually helped me articulate my vision. During one of our first consultations as I stumbled over my words trying to articulate what I was envisioning, Monica assuredly said, “I totally get it. It’s this moody, pacific northwest midsummer night’s dream. I’m so excited for this wedding.” And with that, I, and the rest of my lovely vendors, threw ourselves into a wedding that was a mad concoction of lush and lavish greenery, mouthwatering food, liquor over-flowing the cup, romantic lighting, not-so-mainstream music on the dancefloor and, most of all, lots of laughter and love. It was a wedding that completely embodied Dan and I.

My favorite moment was kind of a large one: our ceremony. From seeing Dan standing at the end of the aisle, to hearing my Grandma say a blessing for us, from my brother, our officiant, telling me to “top that” after Dan read his vows to me (which I did!), to our impromptu game of rock paper scissors because we forgot who was supposed to go first in exchanging the rings and the champagne toast that concluded the ceremony — it was just everything it’s not supposed to be, but absolutely perfect.

Honestly, there is not a moment that goes by where I don’t wish I could go back and just relive this magical day. There is something to be said about being surrounded by all your loved ones and committing yourself to one of your best friends (even if it is a brisk 35 degrees!). Of course, it cannot go unsaid that this day was such a success due to the wonderfully talented vendors.

Romantic Outdoor Wisconsin Wedding

This is the kind of wedding that makes me fall in love with weddings all over again. Traditional in a way that will stand the test of time yet fresh and packed with personality, this gorgeous day captured by Carly McCray Photography will forever be beautiful. And there is even more proof here.

From Carly McCray PhotographyAnne & Tony live in Chicago and chose to have their early fall wedding in Wisconsin at the unique, incredibly romantic Lake Michigan setting of the Irish Barn at Whistling Straits golf course in Kohler, Wisconsin. It’s not what you think of when you think barn wedding…the Irish barn is actually a fieldstone barn built with the east side open to overlook Lake Michigan and Whistling Straits. It’s breathtaking to say the least, and sentimental to them as a couple, as it’s as it’s where they’d venture off to whenever they wanted to escape the pace of Chicago life.

As Anne told me in their initial inquiry with me, Whistling Straits is the perfect reflection of her and Tony’s personality and style. Tony is an outdoorsman who loves golf and anything wood (Anne’s words!), and Anne is more traditional and enjoys anything that is simply classic. They fell in love with Kohler when they visited on New Year’s Eve years ago, and have made visiting there a tradition every year around the holidays.

They wanted a celebration of their relationship that kept their family and friends close by all day, which Whistling Straits fit perfectly. Honoring their family and friends proved important to the couple…Tony continued the tradition of having his father as his best man, as his father did at his own wedding. Tony also honored his late mother by keeping a picture of both her and Anne inside his cuff links.

The ceremony took place on the terrace right outside the barn, underneath a canopy of hanging vines and overlooking the lake. The reception glowed from the Irish barn into the night, and lit up the sky under a full moon. Tony’s brother even performed an original song for the newlyweds! The entire day made for an elegant yet inviting setting for everyone to relax and enjoy.

Luxurious Boho Warehouse Wedding Inspiration

I’m actively in the process of convincing my fiancé that we need a dog (it’s a daily discussion) and if this furry baby isn’t convincing enough, then I don’t know what is! I mean, not only is the gallery loaded with fluffy friends and darling details, it’s basically what my dreams are made of. More here!

From Elevate EventsElevate Event’s first styled shoot, entitled ‘Boho-Luxe in Love,” was inspired by the venue it was shot at, The Lageret. The Lageret is a vast, organic and industrial warehouse located in the heart of a small town in south-central Wisconsin. Originally home to eight different businesses, it is now a wide open space with enough room to host a separate ceremony, cocktail hour and reception, all in the same building!

We wanted to feed off the industrial vibe of the Lageret, so we chose to keep the stylistic touches of our shoot casual yet refined, colorful but full of greenery, and chic yet cool. As such, “Boho-Luxe in Love” was born.

Boho-Luxe in Love is set in the summer, but we chose to stay away from the traditional saturated and rich color palette and instead chose a light blue color scheme with lots of greenery, white and pops of orangey-red in the nectarines and flowers.

To set the vibe of the dinner table, we chose a farmhouse table from Event Essentials to juxtapose the brick and modern touches of the warehouse, but also a mix of industrial, country and victorian-plush chairs to give the table setting a relaxed vibe.

For the table-top, we gave a nod to our “boho” inspiration by incorporating goblets in both clear and blue glass, mis-matched vintage plates, and loose floral arrangements. To add to our “luxe” theme, however, we incorporated rich, copper metals, classic crystal stemware and luxurious steel blue napkins. We also loved the look of copper candles and copper candle holders all over a lace linen to give it a subdued, vintage undertone. For our final pop, we added the name cards and menus done by Andra Delores Design and a nectarine on top for an added pop of bright red and freshness.

More boho elements such as a persian rug and wooden birdcage anchored our ceremony space, with luxurious candles and a hand-painted mirror by A La Crate rounding out the decor. The true feature of this space, however, was the antique chandelier filled with greenery (gorgeously designed by Flora By Jamae), which served as the altar and focal point in the room.

Our bride, Amy, was dressed in a custom two-piece gown by Monirose Bespoke Gowns. She wore a exquisite floral crown and carried a laid-back bouquet full of greenery with pops of gold ribbon. We even threw in a few dogs for the shoot to add to the cuteness and laid-back vibe!

In keeping with the theme of copper, we chose the classic “Moscow Mule” as the couple’s signature drink, especially since it is so tasty and refreshing in the summertime. To personalize the dessert offerings, we incorporated an assortment of French-inspired desserts from Madison’s local patisserie. Not only are the assorted desserts a smart option to accommodate the tastes of many, they also make great conversation starters and add a touch of uniqueness to the event.

When planning the decor for your wedding, we believe one sure-fire way to add a sense of luxury is by mixing different patterns and layering different elements. Don’t be too worried that your wedding will feel “busy,” mixing colors and patterns may seem daunting, but as long as your color palette is relatively subdued, the mixed patterns will add visual interest and make your decor feel cohesive and inspired. We chose to mix persian rugs with lace, satin with metal, and ikat patterns in the invitations next to copper and vintage china – and the result was spectacular! Enjoy features from “Boho Luxe in Love.”

Art Museum Wedding in Milwaukee

You know how couples often exchange sweetest gifts the morning of the wedding? Well, this Groom took things one step further and surprised his Bride with probably the cutest gift EVER – a collar for the new family puppy they’d pick out together as newlyweds. It’s a wedding day surprise we can 100% get behind, but it’s only the beginning. More beautiful moments captured by The McCartneys right here.

Museum

From The McCartneys Photography… With a soft color palette and modern lines in mind, Elise and Tyler designed the wedding of their dreams with lots of help from Elise’s Mom, and an amazing team of creatives! The Milwaukee Art Museum absolutely blew us away with its grand beauty and refreshing walls of white.

But more importantly, we were lucky to capture this fun, at ease couple’s wedding day. Elise and Tyler are not only a gorgeous bride and groom, but an amazing couple to be surrounded by. The happiness they emitted was never-ending from the moment we arrived to our hugs goodbye, and you could see in their eyes that they were SO grateful for all of the friends and family who traveled to celebrate with them on their wedding day!

Elise and her ladies were pampered with final makeup and hair touches, then Elise slipped into her beautiful Anna Maier~Ulla-Maija wedding gown (and stunning Manolo’s!). We were even able to tag along as Elise’s maid of honor delivered a special boudoir session wedding gift to her groom. From the look on Tyler’s face, our guess is that he was quite surprised!

The first look took place in a galleria completely overflowing with gorgeous light and white walls and floors everywhere you looked! Our hearts may have skipped a beat when Elise opened Tyler’s gift to her – a brand new collar so they can pick out their first puppy and start growing their newly formed family of two! From that moment on, their smiles were painted on and we had a BLAST with their very charismatic wedding party! Inside the museum and out, Elise and Tyler and their stylish wedding party (donning Burberry and Adrianna Pappell) looked amazing, and we were thankful to have lots of portrait time with them!

The entire wedding day was set in the Milwaukee Art Museum, but the transformation that took place from the moment the ceremony ended until their reception tables were glowing with candlelight was incredible!! Guests were whisked into another galleria for cocktail hour and an amazing guitarist serenaded everyone as they enjoyed Wisconsin treats and beverages. From a gorgeous ceremony white washed in radiant light and gorgeous florals to a reception celebration with linens, colorful up-lighting, centerpieces and never-ending thoughtful details that filled their reception, all of the friends and family of Elise and Tyler were in for a real treat!

From the Bride… I had ALWAYS envisioned having my wedding in my hometown at the Milwaukee Art Museum and so Tyler knew there was not much room for discussion :) We did not look at any other venues and in fact, choosing the venue was one of the easiest decisions that we made related to the wedding. We LOVED the modern architecture, location, lighting and white color scheme.

We did not want to overpower the beauty of the Milwaukee Art Museum and so we chose a simple elegant aesthetic. We used neutral and champagne colors (with a hint of sparkles, of course!), autumn flowers and lots of candles for decoration. For the wedding, we wrote our own ceremony words and vows, and incorporated poems and music that had been important to us in our lives.

We created wedding favors made up of local caramels wrapped in monogrammed “C” boxes and tied with ribbons. With my mother/wedding planner extraordinaire and some wonderful family friends, I had a “craft brunch” (complete with mimosas) to help put everything together. Most of the supplies came from Michaels and we went so many times that my mother has vowed never to step foot in another Michaels again!

Our favorite moment of the wedding day was the special and private first look that we shared. Seeing each other in advance of the walk down the aisle calmed our nerves. This was also when my groom presented a dog collar as a token of his readiness to bring a wheaten terrier fur child into our loving family! Thanks so much for capturing the joy of this moment, McCartneys!

If I were to share a piece of advice with future prides, it would be: ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY the entire wedding planning process and try not to let the daunting nature of some tasks overwhelm you. Oh, and do not forget to plan the most awesome honeymoon :)

From Aliza Rae PhotographyThis bridal hair and makeup inspiration shoot was a collaborative effort with Wide Eyed Beauty, AnnKat Jewelry Designs, and MinkMaids. Gina and Maggie are the masterminds of beauty behind Wide Eyed Beauty, and I was so thrilled to be able to capture the romantic wedding day looks that they created. AnnKat made the most stunning bridal jewelry collection that speaks to the most bohemian and even traditional of brides. Of course, MinkMaids lovely dresses accompanied this bridal inspiration shoot, giving depth and variety for every bride and bridesmaid look.

From Gina of Wide Eyed Beauty… These days bridal hair styles are heading in more of the “anything goes” route. If you have ever looked at Anthropologie or J.Crew’s wedding editorials and thought you would love to try that perfectly imperfect whimsical hair but don’t know how, I can give you a few simple steps to creating that kind of look at home.

I recommend starting with clean damp hair. Lots of the products used for this type of look actually create that “dirty” feel for you, and too much oil or product build up in the hair before you start can ruin this look. Texturizing sprays and dry shampoos have made their way to the top of popular products. I have a couple favorites that I depend on.

Materials

  • Bobby pins (the color of your own hair)
  • Back combing brush, and a regular brush
  • Curling Iron (1” to 1.5” depending on hair length)
  • 2-3 large Velcro rollers
  • Hair dryer
  • Strong hold hairspray / (unscented spray)
  • Optional: A pretty vintage inspired hair comb, or even fresh flowers

Let This Workshop Inspire Your Next Flower Making Party

Flowers are not a particular strong suite for me even though I love em, love em. If you’re in the same boat, this floral workshop is right up your alley. Crafted by Mint & Lovely Studios along with floral maven, Belle Fiori, and photographs by Jenna Kutcher, it’s an afternoon spent getting crafty with blooms. And as an awesome takeaway, we have a floral recipe for crafting your very own centerpiece below!

The inspiration to host this event stemmed from our mantra of ‘consuming less and experiencing more’. We wanted to create a unique and stunning event that inspired women to begin creating more in their lives and we feel our Pop of Spring floral workshop did just that!

Everyone gathered at a fantastic locally owned store, Hot Pop, in the historic third ward district of Milwaukee. The talented and always joyful Jenna Kutcher documented the day with her gorgeous photography. After checking in, each guest selected their apron with their initial embroidered on it and used it to reserve their seat in the workshop area. The attendees sipped on shrub cocktails handcrafted by the master bartenders at Onesto and snacked on sweet treats from Yield Bakehouse.

Owner Emily, of Belle Fiori, enlisted the help of her amazing and talented team who walked each guest through the basics of flower arranging. The creations included ranunculus, peonies, roses, tulips and even a clementine for an added unexpected element. All of the blooms were nestled in contemporary white hobnail jars.

Everyone headed home with a fantastic arrangement and a custom tote bag that included a ton of great goodies from small business we adore. Custom zippered pouches from Deerly Made housed a floral shears as well as recipe cards for additional arrangements each person could recreate on their own at home. Gold earrings from Woodbury Lane, hand poured candles from Big White Yeti and spring scented soap from Fern + Nettle had the women smiling with delight. Each guest took notes with Letter C Design’s gold stamped notebooks and pencils. To top it all off, each person took home a gorgeous hand printed towel from Parris Chic Boutique as well as adorable greeting cards from Emily Balsley Illustration.

Pop of Spring: A Floral Recipe

Traditional + Elegant Madison Wedding

One look at this gorgeous wedding, and you’d never guess it took place during the Golden Age of Hollywood, not present-day in Madison, Wisconsin. With art deco flair, a classic black-and-white color palette with touches of blush gold for some extra glitz and glamour, and stunning botanicals from daffodil*parker, this fête is picture perfect thanks to m three studio photography. Take a trip back in time and admire all the luxurious details here.

From M Three StudioFor Ashley & Tim’s wedding, they brought it all home to Ashley’s native Madison (the couple currently resides in Phoenix with their boxer puppy Rudy). They also brought several hand-painted chalkboards by the bride herself. Art Deco and Vintage served as inspiration for a black and white wedding softened by milk glass, antique gold, pastel and filly florals and a splash of bling. The day was peppered with fun surprises too, like mini cream puffs (a Wisconsin tradition) for dessert, a vintage car for transport, a wedding crest featuring their Boxer pup (drawn by the bride!) and Ashley’s bright red nails.

From the Bride… Tim and I are both have kind of a classic style and wanted our wedding to reflect that. I am really inspired by old Hollywood glamour and knew that I wanted to incorporate elements that subtly represented that era. Our wedding was in Madison, Wisconsin but we live in Phoenix. When we went to look at venues, The Madison Club had a perfect vibe and really represented what we were looking for with beautiful chandeliers and sweeping staircases – even an art deco bar that had great patio space. Some of the elements seemed to really fall in place after we determined our venue. I was convinced I wanted a fit and flare or mermaid gown but when we went dress shopping, I found a dress that just really caught my eye and after trying on a few other dresses, I knew it was the right one. Between the venue and the dress a real style was coming together. I can’t tell you the number of people who asked what my wedding colors were and the confusion the was apparent when I said “neutral colors – like black, blush tones and gold”. Apparently black isn’t a wedding color. But that palette worked really well with everything and really supported the classic feel of our day.

I grew up just outside Madison and Tim and I both love downtown Madison. Many of our guests were coming from out of town so we knew that the Capital Square was a fantastic backdrop surrounded by a lot of hotels, restaurants and things to see and do. After we booked our reception venue, we found Grace Episcopal Church within walking distance and knew that provided the perfect look and feel that we wanted as well as convenience for our guests. it would also allow us to take photos at the capital before the reception. After those details were nailed down, my top priority was hiring a photographer. The first several that I called were booked and I started to panic and booked the first photographer that was available. His shots were beautiful but as I looked more and more at his work it didn’t really match our aesthetic and what I was hoping for for our wedding. Thankfully, I found Molly at m three studios shortly thereafter and after a quick phone call and looking through past weddings that she had done, I knew that she was the right fit. This was such an important element for me – I had bought a sample dress and put together many of the details of the wedding myself but I knew that photography was something I wasn’t willing to compromise. For us, Molly was really a partner and helped us through the process of planning so much. It was one thing I knew I never had to worry about and our pictures turned out beautifully. Luckily, Molly had worked with our videographer, One Fine Day Productions before, which also helped everything run smoothly day of. Having a vendor or a couple of vendors you really trust is so important because they were able to help recommend things we hadn’t thought of and even other vendors, like our florist, Daffodil Parker.

I did a lot of DIY and planning on my own. I work in marketing and like to think I’m somewhat creative so for me this was something that I really enjoyed and I thought it really elevated our wedding and was something I was really proud of. I designed our programs, menus and place cards as well as a “family crest” that included boxer dogs (as a nod to our beloved boxer Rudy who was not able to be part of our day). I also designed and hand lettered chalkboards for the place card table and photo booth. My family and I had scoured flea markets and antique stores to find the hobnail milk glass, mercury glass and mirrored trays that were used as centerpieces and throughout the reception. Our florist put together the bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres but the flowers for our centerpieces came from my mother’s garden. She cut them the morning of the wedding and we put them in the vases a few hours before the wedding started. This allowed us to splurge more on the flowers that were going to be front and center. I had taken on several DIY projects for our Mexican Fiesta themed rehearsal dinner the night before as well (including chalkboards and making 30 mini-piñatas that my family was gracious enough to help with as I realized that I had maybe taken on too much). I think the important part of DIY is to make sure you don’t overwhelm yourself. I had originally intended to make two more chalkboards for the reception but since we were traveling and everything needed to be done in Madison, I had a lot to do the week leading up to the wedding and decided to reduce some of the chalkboards and other small elements to give myself a break. Luckily they were small details that no one noticed and everything came together perfectly.

I’m sure there were things that weren’t perfect but as far as I’m concerned it was the best day. I had put a lot into planning everything and hadn’t hired a planner or day of coordinator because I had so much trust in our vendors and I think everything came together exactly how I had hoped. It was a day that was truly ours – from our unconventional first dance song to our shared secrets during dinner. Wisconsin weather in July can be fickle. It can be incredibly humid or stormy and in the week leading up to the wedding and the week after, it was both. But somehow, on our wedding day the weather was absolutely perfect. A lot of things seemed to fall into place like that – when we were taking photos at the capital, there was almost no one around and even later in the evening, when we stepped outside to take some night photos, the streets were so quiet that our videographer encouraged us to dance in the middle of the road with the capital in the background. With so many things going on, we had forgotten about it until we got our wedding video back but it’s one of my favorite moments from the day. Everything just really seemed to fall into place.

For me, I think finding vendors that are experienced goes a long way. Both our photographer and videographer were experienced in just about anything that came up. At one point my bustle wouldn’t hold and Molly and her assistant climbed under my dress to pin it up. The morning of the wedding, our florist texted me a picture of the bouquets and one of the flowers that was supposed to be a blush pink was much brighter and based on a brief conversation she told me she would take care of it and the bouquets were perfect! I think there are a lot of things that can stress a bride out if she lets them but finding people that you trust to work with that you know will do whatever they can to help, really helped me to not worry about some of these smaller things that were going wrong. And everything turned out great! I would also suggest that brides think of alternatives to some of the things that they want that might be out of their budget. We discovered that there was an advantage with our venue for having our rehearsal there as well in a different space that ended up allowing us to have a totally custom menu and ambiance because we saved money on the room rental. I had wanted to rent a classic car but it ended up being so expensive for just a couple of hours that I couldn’t justify it. A friend of my brothers happened to have a car that he was willing to let us use at no charge. It ended up being a great part of some of our photos and I’m so happy that it came together. Our wedding really felt like a labor of love and we incorporated personal details whenever we could – like the boxer family crest on the fan programs at the ceremony, my grandmother’s veil was used to create a gorgeous pattern on the bottom of my bouquet, my aunt played some of my favorite classical songs as I walked down the aisle, my uncle, who is a pastor, married us. It felt very personal and very connected to who we are and I think that’s why the day felt so magical. We still get compliments on what a great wedding it was!

Molly and Ashley from m three studios and Amy and her team from One Fine Day Productions were fantastic. They really captured the joy and happiness of our day. I had a friend who saw our wedding video comment that she didn’t even realize we had videographers – which is quite an accomplishment as there were 3 of them floating around. We also really appreciated working with Emily at The Madison Club. She was really thorough on everything and created a great peace of mind that everything was going to go according to plan. I really couldn’t be happier with how that all came together. We loved all of our wedding vendors!

There are so many things that stick out from our day. Getting to and walking into the church is probably the most vivid. I had so much going on in the morning and was hanging out with the girls and my mom and setting a few last things up at the reception venue which was too conveniently located next to the hotel. My dad and I headed to the church in the classic car we had borrowed and it was the first time I started to get nervous. The processional had started when we get there so that Tim wouldn’t see me and after a poorly timed bathroom trip (thanks Dad!) the anticipation had really built. I was so nervous and excited and when I heard my aunt start to play Pachabel’s Cannon the whole thing became very real in the best way. All of the hard work and the stress was worth it and I was going to marry my best friend. The whole day was very true to who we are and I couldn’t imagine it going any better!

Elegant + Glamorous Milkwaukee Ballroom Wedding

Traditional elegance and subtle drama (in the form of incredible decor lighting done by a family friend!) was the name of the game for this beautiful Bride and Groom who got just what they wished from their incredible team at Tailored Engagements. SMP fave, m three studio, was there to capture all the pretty, and lucky for us, we’ve got the full gallery of glamour right here!

From The Bride…Bryan and I really wanted a wedding that wasn’t trendy and reflected our personal aesthetic – clean, elegant, unfussy, but classically beautiful and subtly dramatic. (Thirty years from now, we wanted to look back and think “what a gorgeous day!” not “oh, no, what did we make our bridesmaids wear!”) For inspiration in style, we looked to the old-world charm of our breathtaking venue, and also some of our favorite color combinations – the cool, deep navy of the night sky, glittering metallics, and the striking simplicity of white-on-white florals. What took it to another level was the high-drama lighting, which was really our only decor and was a favor provided by a fantastic firm out of Chicago (my dad is a lighting designer and called in a favor with a few friends).

What made us happiest about our wedding was that by making a few strategic choices, we were able to really splurge on what we felt was important and would make our wedding an event that we ourselves would want to attend (we can admit that at this point in our lives, we’d been to enough friends’ weddings to have a short list of ‘must-haves!). We scrimped where we could – even though in the end it didn’t feel like scrimping. We sent digital save-the-dates instead of paper, eschewed goody bags, rented jewelry (Rent the Runway) and bridesmaid dresses (Little Borrowed Dress), my shoes were ones I already owned, my dress was from the clearance rack albeit impeccably tailored. We wrote our invites, menu cards and programs ourselves via a template on Wedding Paper Divas. That meant we could afford several rounds of amazing food and drinks, the best photographer, a fantastic multi-piece band, live ceremony music, and a fabulous wedding planner, that in the end were the most important parts to the day. As we planned, we found that neither of us were obsessed about details and neither of us could craft or DIY to save our lives – so we were more than happy to leave that all to professionals!

It paid off, I think! Our friends and family said it was the best wedding they’d been to (they’re biased), and we were able to throw a celebration that brought together all closest to us who were part of our lives. And in 30 years, we have gorgeous photos to look back on!

NFL Player & His Bride’s Traditional Wisconsin Wedding

When the Groom (Green Bay Packers’ Bryan Bulaga) proposes with a sparkly pair of Christian Louboutin slingbacks, you know the wedding is going to be a stylish occasion—especially when each bridesmaid is gifted a pair of red-soled beauties (how jealous are you?!)! Combine serious style with beautiful photography from Lexia Frank, and it’s safe to say this wedding was definitely a win. Take a look through the gallery for all the high-scoring details.

From the beautiful bride… It all started traveling back from Bryan’s hometown, Crystal Lake, Illinois. He was acting strange, continuing to check the GPS estimated time of arrival, which was odd since we make this drive quite often and we know exactly how long it takes.  By the time we got home, I ran into the house first, little did I know Bryan was right behind me.  When I turned the corner from our garage, on our kitchen table sat a pair of Christian Louboutins that were covered in Swarovski crystals. At first instinct I thought he had bought me the shoes I had always said I wanted to wear on my wedding day, as a “here are your shoes but no ring yet.”  Until I got closer to the table did I notice the note that he had written, which said: “My beautiful bride will be wearing red soles on her wedding day that is of course if…” When I turned around he was on one knee.

Our wedding day was beautiful beyond belief.  Not many brides can say that their wedding was even more perfect than what they dreamed of as a young girl. Our vision for the wedding was elegant and classic, with some bling, which our wedding planner David Caruso and Dynamic Events accomplished on all aspects. Since classic and elegant was how we envisioned our wedding day, to help add to that we did a few special things for our wedding party.  For the groomsmen we had custom suits made, we chose a classic style from Tom James.  As for the bridesmaids, we gave each of them their own pair of Christian Louboutins, each was a classic statement that we wanted to add to our day and we wanted to make our wedding party feel special and elegant.  Another special element was my bouquet.  I wanted to incorporate a special item of my Great Grandmothers who passed away four years ago.  While going through her jewelry box, I found an elephant charm that she wore on a necklace which had both her name and my great grandfather’s name.  The charm was a beautiful pastel yellow and the elephant’s trunk was up, which is considered good luck, so I decided it would be perfect to attach to my bouquet.

The day went beyond smoothly, I believe in part to the hard work of our wedding planner and on part to the mindset Bryan and I took to planning the wedding.  We made sure not to stress the small stuff.  Bryan allowed me to do most of the planning alongside David and Dynamic Events, he was not into all of the details but when it came to the reception that was very important for him.  He wanted to make sure our guest got enough food to eat and enough to drink, which I believe we accomplished with flying colors. Down to the three meal choices our guests were able to choose from, to the open bar all night.  Not to mention the late night cupcakes that where all based on some of our favorite drinks.  Such as margarita cupcakes that were soaked in tequila, caramel turtle cupcakes soaked in beer and mudslide cupcakes that were soaked in baileys.  We also had late night sliders and, a Wisconsin classic, cheese curds.  Along with all of the food and drinks our guest danced the night away, which we ended up adding an hour to the night last minute, because we just were not ready for the night to end. If I had any advice for brides it would be to slow down and take in the day, it goes by so fast and you will not want to miss a second of it. Also, be sure to allow your groom to take part in the planning, they may not want to be involved  in the girly side of things, but if it is something they really want let them have it, the day is about you both; you will not regret it in the long run.

From the Bride… Andy and I were friends before we fell in love, and all along the way, we both have grown into who we are thanks to all the support we’ve had from each other, but also our dear friends and family. We wanted to make our wedding reflect our deep gratitude for this love and support we have been so lucky to have in our lives, growing up and growing together.

Our mantra throughout the planning process was about reminding ourselves why we were throwing this shindig in the first place and our saving grace in getting our vision to bloom was Sarah and her wonderful team at Cherry Blossom Events.

I had always dreamed of opening my own line of stationery using those old fashioned alphabet beads. We took on the save-the-dates ourselves and Sarah took them to a mom-and-pop copy-shop to be printed and we hand-sewed each card with the beads and slapped a Wisconsin Badgers sticker on the envelope to seal each one closed. I designed the formal invitations, which were then transformed into a full stationery suite by the beautiful work of Sugar River Stationers.

Our wedding weekend was coined a “destination wedding” since both our extended families would be coming to Madison, Wisconsin from out of town. That was an invitation to show off the city we love to call home.

The day we got married was a classic blue-skied Madison day. While we got ready at the hotel, Andy’s father arrived with his usual smile and a gorgeous cheese tray from Fromagination. We then met up with Andy and the groomsmen on Lakeshore Path, and the dreamy Terrace just behind the Wisconsin Memorial Union, for photos. Finally, we were whisked off to the main event at the Overture Center for the Arts.

Cherry Blossom and the Overture Center team had transformed our space there into a perfect balance of comfortable and relaxed beauty with crisp and elegant lines and colors. Striking harvest tables from A La Crate were scattered throughout, intermixed with white rounds, all with milk glass vases scattered about. My step-mom and her friends found the vases antiquing just for this occasion. Pops of the lush flowers by Erin at Daffodil Parker brightened things up even more. Erin also designed my bouquet, and helped include my two grandmothers by weaving in their handkerchiefs.

We were married on the stage but it felt like we were under the stars. This part is hard to describe because it all went so quickly, but it all just felt magical. After a special moment with all of our parents, and a Swedish proverb in honor of Andy’s family, each of our close friends read us a wish for our future in this world. We felt so humbled all over again to be surrounded by so much love and support.

And then… Andy broke the glass, we were married, and the rest of the festivities began! The band kept everyone dancing all night, and it still felt like we were under the stars. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have Paper Antler there for most of the weekend to capture these moments for us to savor forever.

Bravo TV’s Tara Clack’s Rustic Wisconsin Wedding

We first met Tara as she searched for true love on Bravo’s 100 Days Of Summer and we can officially say she got her happy ending with this fabulously rustic fall wedding. She paid homage to her family’s love of northern Wisconsin with canoes, antlers and one absolutely delicious sounding “field and stream” dining station and Lexia Frank snapped every second; see it all, from first kiss to fireworks, right here!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/92082934 600 338]

From Lexia Frank… Below you’ll find a description of the day from Tara’s point of view, as well as information on all the vendors used. Tara’s Bravo TV show “100 Days Of Summer” centers around her getting engaged, which is aptly timed. A few of my favorite touches during the lovely event were the moccasins that were given to the bridesmaids, and gorgeous northern-inspired bouquets and hop-inspired floral hanging above each table and down the pillars of the tent. During the cocktail hour huge birch canoes were filled with seafood, and guests enjoyed an epic fireworks display over the lake at night.

From The Bride… I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful and memorable wedding day! We chose Chippewa Retreat and Resort in northern Wisconsin because it is on the chain of lakes where my parents and extended family have lake homes. My family has been going up there each summer since I was a little girl and I have wanted my wedding there for as long as I can remember. We chose early fall for our wedding and designed the decor for the reception to go with a rustic, yet classy “Northwoods” theme. I was very lucky that my sister, Brittany, is an interior designer who was able to help our florist come up with a look that embodied the theme we were striving for.

The day started with yoga on the pier, which definitely helped to calm my nerves. We took our photos prior to the ceremony at my parent’s cabin near the pond and lake. My now husband and I love to fish so my favorite photos were near the fishing boat with our dog, She-Ra. However, if I had to chose, I think my favorite part of the evening was the cocktail hour. The bridal party arrived from the church in a pontoon and when we pulled up, the reception setting was breathtaking. There was a rowboat full of seafood, a guitarist playing country music and my favorite drink, a moscow mule, in mason jars with birch-like straws. There were also canoes filled with beer and the double sided fireplace going for smores. My husband and I both went to UW-Madison so we had an ice sculpture with a “W” and also pine cones to tie in to the theme. We tried to use a lot of antlers, animal hides, chalkboards and driftwood to give it a true northern Wisconsin feel. We even had some driftwood pieces there that I had dremeled our last names in, sanded and stained years ago and decorated with fishing lures, hooks, etc.

The dinner was stations which also played on the Northwoods destination. A few Wisconsin favorites included a “field and stream” section with baked walleye, along with beef tenderloin and a pork roast. There were multiple side options but a few crowd favorites included a four cheese mac-n-cheese side dish and a creamed spinach dish.

For dessert, we had five types of pies, all displayed on various sized wood slabs along with some other desserts in mason jars. Finally, we offered an extensive candy buffet, all with a green and brown color scheme. We ended the night with a band followed by a DJ. The bridesmaids all changed into brown Minnetonka moccasins, while I put on a white pair to finish dancing the night away!

Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day and evening! From the moment I woke to the moment I retired to our honeymoon cabin, I enjoyed each and every moment. My advice for those planning a wedding is to enjoy each moment and take it all in. Design a wedding and decor that fits your personality so you can sit back in awe when the day is finally upon you!
