Inspired by the soft stripes found throughout The Omni Homestead Resort and the bumble bees found in the upholstery of the lobby chairs, Lemon & Lime Event Design created the most darling celebration for this Southern couple. From the vintage bee pins to the Hayley Paige gown (another nod to the stripes!), Lisa Ziesing for Abby Jiu Photography was there to capture every inspired detail. Plus, Monachetti Weddings caught the whole day on film, but we’re warning you – it’s sweeter than a peach.

From Lemon & Lime Event Design… A Virginia gal and a Kentucky gent meet in…Baltimore!? Our southern clients, now living up North, paid homage to their roots in a lovely June Southern celebration at The Homestead Resort in Virginia. The bride, Whitney, grew up vacationing at The Homestead with her family, so it was more than a wedding venue, but a place that already held decades of traditions for her and her family. The groom, Kelly, is a golf pro, so it worked out very well with The Homestead having a great course. We also incorporated vintage golf stamps and custom Under Armour hats made for the tournament held the day before the wedding.
Whitney owns Bella Bridesmaids in Baltimore, so we’ve known and worked with Whitney for years. When she reached out for us to plan her wedding, we couldn’t have been be more excited. She has helped so many of our brides put together the look and palate for their bridesmaid dresses and now it was her turn. She carefully selected the most lovely palate for her bridesmaids, junior bridesmaids, and flower girls, mixing green hues with the littlest ladies in floral prints.
We pulled in elements of the Homestead throughout the design to honor some of her favorite memories and details found around the resort. The bees (found in the upholstery in the lobby chairs, which she loved as a kid) in addition to soft stripes found throughout the resort on couches and wallpaper became the driving factors of the design. The bride also chose her gorgeous Hayley Paige gown based off those stripe accents as well. Photosynthesis floral brought our vision to life so perfectly with her bright and beautiful blooms. One of our favorite details was the boxwood bees she created for part of the cocktail hour space. The invitation suite from Anchor Point Paper was one of Whitney’s favorite details, and she collected vintage golf and bee stamps for months in addition to vintage bee pins!
The forecast was calling for rain during the ceremony, so we made the call to move inside. Although that rain never ending up happening, between the natural lit space at The Homestead and Photosynthesis’s florals down the aisle and surrounding the bride and groom, it made for the most beautiful Plan B!
The couple’s custom crest was used throughout the wedding and we gave this classic detail a bit of a twist and used the crest in 3D form at the ceremony and on the cake. We also had Lumina Embroidery recreate the crest onto napkins for the sweetheart table as a surprise to the couple!
Lisa from Abby Jiu Photography captured the day so beautifully, and we’ll never tire looking through her stunning images. Lisa perfectly styled and captured all of the details that were so important to the bride.
