Riverside Farm Wedding from Jenny Moloney Photography

When this bride’s high school sweetheart popped the question, her secret girlhood fantasies of getting married at Riverside Farm were all systems go. The two put their heart’s and soul’s into a beautiful wedding that was rustic, yet oh so beautifully chic, casual, yet fabulously classic, and warm, welcoming, and absolutely heartwarming. Second only to the love they share, Jenny Moloney Photography and her camera created a gallery that is filled with one of the best things of the day – the amazing images.

Seriously, we would be rude not to share this adorbs film from Paperweight Films. WAY cute.

Mike and I first fell in love at the age of 17. We were seniors in high school which meant that our time living in the same place was limited. Mike followed his dreams to Colorado and I followed mine to New York City. When the reality came that the distance would be too much for us to sustain a relationship for four years, we were heartbroken. During those college years, though, we stayed in touch, checking in on each other and occasionally visiting each other. It wasn’t until after college, though, when Mike had moved to Portland, Oregon (even further away!) to pursue his career and I began my teaching career in Brooklyn, that we decided that no matter how far apart we were from each other, we had to give our relationship another try. We traveled across the country to see each other whenever we had the chance. When Mike had a career opportunity that required him to move to Las Vegas, we continued the practice of blissful visits followed by devastating goodbyes. Finally, in December of 2008, Mike gave me the best Christmas present I’ve ever received: he told me he was moving to New York. He quit his job and moved to New York so that we could be together. We moved in together a year later and adopted our precious puppy, Digby a few months after that. Almost exactly a year later, Mike took me to a cliff that looks over our hometown, the place where it all began, and asked me to marry him.

About an hour after Mike and I got engaged we were celebrating with our parents and my dad said, “So, should I call Riverside Farm?” We had spent many ski seasons up in the mountains around Riverside Farm and when we’d drive by the venue to get to the ski slopes I would admire the barns and covered bridge from the road. It was a known fact that I had fantasies of getting married there. Once we took a tour of the property and met the folks who ran it, we knew that this was where we had to get married. Family and friends are the most important to us and Riverside Farm was a place where we could spend time together throughout the entire weekend.

When we got down to planning the details we knew we wanted our wedding to feel like us. That meant calling upon the talents of our family and friends to help with the DIY projects. My maid of honor illustrated and designed our invitation and our friend helped us design and print all of our paper products. As a first grade teacher, I really wanted to bring all 26 of my students to our wedding… but sadly I could not. So, I incorporated their illustrations in our ceremony program. We asked many of our family members and friends to decorate a wedding flag which I then sewed (again with the help of friends) into a banner which was hung at the entrance to the barn. There were many, many hours spent with friends in our Brooklyn apartment folding cootie catchers, hand writing escort cards, sewing together the wedding flags, tying string around our invitations. These crafting sessions were some of the best moments leading up to our wedding. We are eternally grateful for the talents of our friends.

Our ceremony was a true collaborative effort. It was officiated by our close friend who is also a rabbi and included a performance of Crazy Love by Van Morrison sung by one of my bridesmaids and accompanied by our rabbi. Our parents read us a blessing and Mike’s sister read a poem. Our dog, Digby, served as the ring bearer and miraculously performed his duties flawlessly. Because it was a non-denominational wedding, we did not have a specific structure or format to go off of. Matt, our officiant, helped us compile the elements that made the ceremony truly about us and our commitment to each other. We chose to each write a letter to each other that we read during our ceremony and we selected three shared vows that we each said aloud at the end of the letter. Hearing Mike spill his heart to me in front of our family and friends was the most incredible feeling I’ve ever had.

For the reception, our florist and the folks at Riverside Farm did an incredible job of pulling all of our DIY creations together in a way that was well beyond my expectations. As I walked into the barn to dance our first dance (performed by a friend), I remember looking at the hanging chandeliers, the wildflowers on the tables, and being completely blown away. The vision I had described to all of the vendors had been executed to perfection. When we made our food selections, we really wanted to focus on cocktail hour and hors d’oeuvres. We were thrilled with the food and even did the unthinkable: we both ate our entire entrees. We had also chosen to forgo the traditional wedding cake for a dessert stand featuring mini tartlets, cupcakes and most importantly: donuts!

Our band also blew it out of the water. I haven’t been to many wedding where the dance floor is completely packed before we even sit down to dinner, but ours was. In fact, had the band not asked us to sit, I think we might have forgotten about dinner. Mike and I danced every single song as did most of our guests! It was just impossible not to. The night ended with our guests lining up on the bridge outside of the barn with sparklers in hand. As we ran through the crowd of our cheering wedding guests we could not have been happier.

A bit of advice from one bride (and groom) to another: We selected our vendors based on both their talents and their character. We are convinced that everyone we worked with are both the best at what they do and the kindest, coolest folks around! When you are planning a wedding, there are a lot of phone calls with the people you work with. Whether it was our photographer trekking through tall grass in her skirt to get that perfect shot or the caterer making our coveted donuts, we really felt like the people who we hired went above and beyond their standard job description. By the end of the wedding we felt like we had become friends with many of our vendors!

Vermont Engagement Session by John R. Andersen Photography

My heart is seriously aflutter for this etherial, sun-soaked Vermont engagement session captured by the super-talented John R. Anderson Photography. These unabashedly gorgeous images prove you don’t need much more than a couple seriously-in-love and some amazing light to produce something frame-worthy. Don’t be surprised if you spend the rest of your afternoon gazing at the rest of the beauty in the full gallery!

From John R. Andersen Photography Here is a country engagement session of an adorable couple in northern Vermont. In one of the photos of her on the couch, you’ll notice she is holding a frame and inside the frame it says “For Dad.” Andrew’s father has a serious medical condition, so they wanted to take this photo of them and put it in the frame they are holding and give it to his dad. Andrew’s father used to be a photographer as well. I decided to shoot this all on film besides the one digital shot of them holding the frame.

South Hero, VT Wedding from Daria Bishop Photographers

Us SMP girls love fashion (which is pretty obvious by our latest digital mag). And while some of us are poofy dress fanatics, others are slinky gown lovers, and others still are crazy for lace. But when Daria Bishop Photographers sent this stunning wedding our way, we all stopped in our tracks over that Something Blue Douglas Hannant gown. Every single one of us wanted to slip into the gorgeous that is that gown. We’ll all be in our imaginary dressing room (better known as the gallery) taking turns trying that beautiful baby on when you’re ready to join us!

Our inspiration was English Garden and Great Gatsby. We wanted to incorporate the stone wall and garden that was part of the house into the wedding décor – nature, architecture and understated elegance.

We chose our parent’s home in Vermont because we wanted a place that felt intimate, unique and was special to us. Vermont was the perfect location for a comfortable, elegant environment. We also lucked out with our perfect fall day – cool and sunny, or as we like to say sweatshirts and sunglasses.

New Hampshire Wedding at the Enfield Shaker Museum by Ampersand Photography

I am in love with this wedding. Like head over heels. It has SO much heart, and Ampersand Photography captured every priceless moment in such a way I plan on spending the day oohing and ahhing over the sweetness. Can you really blame me? It’s New England farm wedding perfection. From all the DIY touches to the sweet, completely in love couple and everything inbetween, it’s impossible not to fall in love with this sweet soiree! See it all right here!

From Ampersand Photography Joel and Amy are some of my favorite people on the face of the earth, and are dear friends. They both live in Rome, Italy, and work with college students. They met overseas — she was already living in Rome, and he was still wrapping up life in Ohio. They gave their relationship a fair chance though, and after months of Skype sessions and handwritten letters, they found themselves in love. Joel proposed just a few months after moving to Rome, and they began planning the perfect-for-them, thoughtful, handmade wedding that reflected all they hold dear: friends, family and special touches. They decided to marry in New Hampshire, where Amy grew up, so that those closest to them could attend their wedding. Even so, they had friends and family fly in from all over the world — literally — to be part of their wedding.

Because of the significances of their life in Rome, Joel and Amy included several Italian elements and traditions into their wedding day — readings in Italian during their ceremony, Italian food at their reception, gelato with the wedding cake, and the Italian ribbon-cutting ceremony as Amy departed the Shaker Museum for the wedding ceremony.

Amy wore a gold bracelet — the same one worn by her mother, her sister and her grandmother on their wedding days. She is a darling, artistic person and made most of the decor herself, including the vintage paper backdrop at the reception. She handcrafted calico bunting from her grandmother’s scrap fabric bin. She hand-drew the olive leaf motif on their invitations and program. While out on a regular weekend trip to the farmer’s market near her parents’ house, Amy met a woman selling flowers … and decided that her wildflower bouquets would be the most natural, perfect accompaniment to her already relaxed, sweet wedding decor. Joel and Amy decided to hold the ceremony at the church that Amy grew up in, but they held the reception at an old stone barn near the Enfield Shaker Museum (where they all got ready). . They served dinner and dessert on china that Amy collected at vintage stores and yard sales for months before the wedding. They gave away homemade buckeyes and miniature bottles of maple syrup as wedding favors as nods to where they’re each from (Joel is from Ohio and Amy from is New England). They had a friend run a photo booth for them and had guests sign pages of a photo album as a guestbook. They’re both dear, dear friends of mine, so shooting their wedding was one of the greatest privileges imaginable.

Vermont Wedding Film from Hello Super Studios

There is something this little wedding blogger absolutely can not control. And it has something to do with a Super 8 wedding film. When it is done as spectacularly as Hello Super Studios always does it, I fall head-over-heels, capital IN LOVE with the couple at the center, every.single.time. I don’t know if it’s the romance of the Super 8 or that the coolest couples always seem to love that special camera, but whatever it is, I’m not fighting it. I love them all. Especially these cuties.

Photography by Cronin Hill Photography.

Before we get to the main event, I just had to expand your love for this sweet couple by giving you access to their welcome BBQ and the silent photo booth, both also shot by Hello Super Studios. Prepare for the extreme love fest!

My husband and I were married last summer at the Inn at the Round Barn Farm in Waitsfield, Vermont. We wanted to have a farm wedding and drove all across the state in search of the perfect barn. There were so many beautiful ones to choose from. We finally settled on the Round Barn because of the people who work there. The owner, AnneMarie DeFreest, and the innkeeper, Tim Piper, are warm, down-to-earth, and conscientious human beings. They put us immediately at ease. Samantha Buczek, the inn’s wedding coordinator, was wonderful to work with. She always responded to my emails within minutes and had the best recommendations. She put us in touch with Danika Johnson, our florist, and told us where to find the amazing lampshades.

As soon as we chose the Round Barn, the next vendor we hired was Megan Hill of Hello Super Studios. Videography is often one of the last things that couples think about when planning their wedding, but I am so glad that we found Megan early enough to catch her while she was still available. Her silent Super 8 films set to music are true works of arts and are the most important artifacts from our wedding weekend. I am still amazed by the moments and the details she managed to capture and and the way she seamlessly edited them together. She filmed my mom and sister and me getting ready, the guests coming off a yellow school bus and picking up their escort cards. She caught footage of the programs set out in one of my mom’s old Longaberger baskets and the garland on the bridge leading to the ceremony site. Her shots of our outdoor ceremony were gorgeous. Two shy ring-bearers walked down our aisle of grass with their mother, a dear friend from high school. The flower girls, children of my husband’s cousins, threw petals from baskets that had once served as table decorations at his parents’ wedding. My family’s German exchange student who has become like a sister to me, escorted my mom. My dad’s friend, who played in a brass quintet with him when I was growing up, played piccolo trumpet and arranged a hymn for trumpet and string quartet as a wedding present. I held a small, white Bible as I walked to the altar, the same one my mom and my mother’s mother carried when they got married. The guests sat on wooden benches and the groom and I stood under a small cedar huppah. We drank from a wine vessel that his parents used on their wedding day and had it displayed on a table with a lace coverlet that belonged to my dad’s mom when she was alive. My sister and his brother were our attendants and seven of our relatives including his 96 year-old great aunt read the Seven Blessings. One of my best friends recited a short passage of scripture from my grandmother’s little Bible. At the end of the ceremony, his aunt and uncle kept us wrapped in a family prayer shawl as our officiant, a cantor from New York, sung lines from the Lord’s Blessing in Hebrew and my uncle read aloud the English translation.

We wanted both the ceremony and the wedding reception to honor our families. At the entrance of the barn, where we ate dinner and danced, we arranged wedding pictures of our parents, grandparents, and other relatives. We even had one of my grandfather’s grandparents on their wedding day in 1899 in Rincon, New Mexico. In the middle of the pictures stood two teddy bears, one painted as a bride, the other as a groom. My grandfather spent a year carving them from solid pieces of wood. Next to the table of photographs were two mannequins that displayed my mom’s wedding dress and the bridesmaid’s dress that my mom’s sister sewed herself for the occasion. (We hung my grandmother’s wedding dress nearby on a wooden beam because the ribcage was too small to fit on any mannequin we had found.) Megan captured all these details on film. I loved seeing the shots of the flower arrangements on the tables. Each one had different flowers to capture the whole spectrum of August colors. The sage green table linens gave us the flexibility to do that. The fabric that our florist hung from the rafters, the tree branches that she tied to the posts, the candles she placed on the windowsills brought great warmth to the space. She has the soul and the eye of an artist. After we cut our Ben and Jerry’s wedding ice-cake our family and friends danced like crazy. The photographs taken by Cronin Hill, a husband and wife team of photographers, were wonderful. We were so impressed by their work that my sister has signed them up for their wedding in Cape May, NJ, in December. They charged us an affordable flat rate to photograph the entire weekend from rehearsal dinner to Sunday brunch and gave us the rights to print the pictures ourselves. We loved Cronin Hill’s work. It was the happiest day of lives and we are so grateful to have Hello Super Studios’ tasteful, artistic footage of it to show one day to our children and grandchildren.

Stowe Wedding from Sabin Gratz Photography + The Painted Tulip

Any wedding at which the guests leave with a packet of dried herbs – some of which were grown in the bride’s own garden – is a wedding I can love. Especially when there are mountains in plain sight and the floral design is guaranteed to be gorgeous, and it always is when The Painted Tulip is behind it. So when photos from Sabin Gratz Photography of a simply stunning Vermont affair landed in my lap, it was love at first sight. And second sight, and third sight, and a full gallery of lovely sights!

Adam and I migrated north to the Green Mountain State in June of 2010. We were immediately blown away by Vermont’s natural beauty and knew we wanted to make our home here. Adam proposed a month later while on a hike up one of the more prominent features of the landscape, Camel’s Hump. We both love mountains and wanted to incorporate that into our wedding. After examining the feasibility of hiking up a mountain with friends, family, and a wedding dress, we opted to look at places with easier access. We fell in love with the The Cliff House, located at 3,625 feet on Vermont’s tallest mountain, Mount Mansfield. It had amazing views and a rustic charm that I knew would make our day perfect for us.

I chose a theme that was nature-inspired and elegant with a touch of whimsy, playing off the style of The Cliff House. Each table at the reception was named and decorated with one of several different herbs, and guest favors were muslin bags of dried herbs, some of which were grown in my community garden, with recipes attached. Our wedding day ended with a sparkler send-off and a surreal gondola ride down the mountain as husband and wife.

Vermont Wedding by Paige Hiller Photography

I would have never guessed from looking at these photos by Paige Hiller Photography that this gorgeous Vermont wedding was created in two short weeks after Hurricane Irene put a wrench in the planning process.  You often hear about wedding vendors going above and beyond but this remarkable team seriously outdid themselves!  The result is nothing short of amazing!  See it all in the full gallery!

Click here for the FULL wedding!

From Paige of Paige Hiller PhotographyThe plan was to have a destination wedding in Woodstock, Vermont, rehearsal dinner at Simon Pearce, wedding ceremony outdoors in the courtyard of The Woodstock Inn and Resort, immediately followed by cocktails and dinner under a tent. Two weeks until the big day, hurricane Irene hit Vermont. Woodstock and the surroundings areas were severely damaged — no power, no water, no way in and out, bridges were washed away. Simon Pearce lost power, water and the kitchen. The Woodstock Inn and Resort was forced to close indefinitely. After we all caught our breath and reassessed the damage, the wedding team put their heads together and came up with “Plan B,” and within two short weeks, we were ready to have a wedding for Leigh and Jeff, their family and friends. The rehearsal dinner was moved to the Woodstock Country Club, and the dinner was prepared by the chef and his staff from Simon Pearce. The following day the ceremony took place on the front lawn of The Woodstock Inn and Resort as planned followed by a tented reception at Billings Farm.

From the Bride… It was horrifying seeing the damage Hurricane Irene had caused to this beautiful historic area. When we learned the fate of Simon Pearce and The Woodstock Inn, our wedding was the last thing on our minds. We were concerned more with the local residents and the damage they had suffered to their homes and businesses. And yet in the midst of this natural disaster, these Vermont residents were putting us first! It was remarkable how in two short weeks, our vendors created a whole new wedding for us that exceeded all our original expectations. The biggest challenge was the venue. Although Billings Farm was not our original venue, it was perfect, We were in the most beautiful setting in Vermont, surrounded by our closest friends and family.

Vermont Barn Wedding from The Painted Tulip + Brent Harrewyn

With the trees budding and blooming all around me, and the sweet smell of lilacs drifting through my window, I could not have found a more perfect soiree, filled with the most amazing light, and of course, the most beautiful flowers from The Painted Tulip, to celebrate this perfect Spring day. Brent Harrewyn Photography was able to capture the day in a way that makes us all giddy. Click here for the gallery, where we will be giddily taking in the sweet Vermont soiree all afternoon!

From The Painted Tulip … This spicy couple were destined to be together. Meeting on a soccer field in Vermont. They are the perfect fusion of Vermont and Guatamala and the wedding was exactly that.

The groom Alex moved to California with his family from Guatemala, and fate brought him to the Green Mountain State, where Beth had been born, raised, and re-rooted since graduating from McGill University in Montreal. The two wound up in the same small valley, and both signed up for Shelburne’s soccer team.

But fate didn’t do all the work: Alex and Beth were signed up for opposing teams, and met for the first time facing off against each other on the soccer field one night. Beth’s first impression of Alex was when she scored the winning goal against his team, and solidified a place in his (slightly defeated) heart.

Luckily, the teams were merged. Beth and Alex saw each other from time to time in downtown Burlington. As the summer stars shone on and fate helped here and there, accidental meetings and brief conversations evolved into planned encounters—and romance!

And then, the Doodle was born. Alex sometimes refered to Beth as his “Puchunguita,” an affectionate Spanish term that means “Little Bug.” Beth wanted to reciprocate and came up with, “Doodlebug,” a nonsense word that she connected with when describing the man who would later be her husband. It was shortened to “Doodle,” and from there it spiraled. The couple now has Doodle sweatshirts, personalized street signs, and everyone knows and uses their loving nicknames. Alex doesn’t even mind hearing a cheer for Doodle from the stands during a present-day soccer game; that’s love, folks.

In the small community of Vermont, wedding vendors often become very close with their clients, and beautiful new friendships are born from the relationship. Alex and Beth are friendly, outgoing people whose love of life is easy to become immersed in.

They were drawn to the Barn at Lang Farm for their cocktail hour, ceremony, and reception. The post-and-beam property drew them in immediately with its architectural details and the contrasting promise of both a vast party potential and intimate Vermont charm. The barn boasts attractive but humble details: a wrought iron chandelier, a bluestone patio, flooring from local hemlocks, authentic square nails, and a spectacular half-moon terrace.

The perfect ceremony was officiated by someone who was already a friend: Peter “The Reverand” Bertelloni. A big man, with a bigger heart, and the ability to command the attention of an entire barn’s worth of people. This was no cookie-cutter wedding, so the ceremony was led by words from within about a little girl who grew from pigtails to proms to professional life, as well as the man who became her soulmate.

The most important part of this wedding was after the ceremony: dancing! Dancing is culturally important to Alex and his family, and was inspired by local band “Queen City Hot Club.” Contagious rhythms kept the spirited crowd on their feet.

The amazing menu created by Chef Susanna Keefer of Susanna’s Catering incorporated local ingredients with an international inspiration was mouth-watering and memorable.

The flowers were passionately designed by the Painted Tulip Floral and Event Design. Nicole brought the devotion and knowledge of seasonal flowers to create the perfect wedding flowers in greens and whites. Her designs touched every part of the wedding, and were a glittering overlay to the beauty and warmth felt by all in attendance.

The grand finale to all the celebrating was the world’s most decadent cake, presented by a long-time family friend: Chef Jozef Harrewyn of the Chef’s Corner, in Williston.

West Monitor Barn Wedding Inspiration from The Painted Tulip + Alanna Scully Photography

Red barns are beyond fantastic, in my humble opinion. They are perfectly American – and paired with a delicious Cherry Pie, a barn can make for the most fantastic fall day. Alanna Scully Photography teamed up with a few of Vermont’s greatest, including The Painted Tulip on the florals, to create this tall glass of water of an inspiration shoot for all you farm loving brides and grooms. Click here for more!

From Alanna Scully Photography … There is something about a red barn that just makes me feel at home.  When that red barn is in Vermont and you’ve got a beautiful fall day, it’s even better.  I asked my photographer friends (who became husband and wife this summer!) Debbie and Jared Burns to model for me as I set up a stylized shoot at the gorgeous West Monitor Barn in Richmond, VT.

It was Columbus Day weekend, which was by far the three best days of fall weather I have ever seen in Vermont.  It was perfect shooting weather and the late afternoon light was breathtaking, as was my couple.  I asked Nicole D’Agata of the Painted Tulip in Waterbury to help out with some beautiful florals for our table and for our bride and groom, and the amazing staff at the Vermont Tent Company provided the rest of our set.  When I edited these pictures, I was reminded of how great love is and how nice it was to spend an afternoon with Debbie and Jared, a couple who isn’t afraid to show their affection and share their joy with the world.  Love like this, much like a red barn, can make you feel right at home.

As we approached our last year in medical school and began to apply for residency we were forced to think very seriously about our commitment to each other. We needed to decide whether it was worth it to apply for residency as a couple or risk not being in the same city.

In the midst of an incredibly hectic interview season, Jono suggested we get away for a weekend in Vermont. We drove up to his ski house near Mount Snow and he had arranged for dinner at a new restaurant. I suspected he was up to something, and asked if I should wear a dress – no ring…

The next morning he surprised me with skins that we could attach to our skis so that we could hike up the mountain. It was a beautiful morning and we set off up the Cascade Trail. Skiers in the lifts above shouted, “You’re going the wrong way” but we loved the challenge. Just near the top, Jono had pulled ahead and was fixing his boot by the time I caught up. While down on one knee, he said the most beautiful words about our relationship and our future and pulled out a gorgeous ring from his ski jacket. I was jumping up and down, and of course, said yes. A ski patrol officer noticed the commotion and came over to ask if we were ok. I showed her the ring and we got our first congrats!

We drove back to NYC that evening and Jono suggested dinner at our favorite restaurant on the upper east side called Sfoglia. There, we were escorted to a hidden back door, up a flight of stairs, and into a private dining room filled with both of our families. Jono has pre-selected for all of our favorite dishes to be served family-style and as usual dinner was amazing. It was the perfect proposal from start to finish!

I remember when we were getting ready, the site coordinator came over to explain that it was raining and the lake was flooding the dock (the site for the cocktail hour). She explained that we could move the ceremony inside at the last minute, but the cocktail hour needed to be decided on earlier on. The room was quiet, as my parents, each of my 9 bridesmaids, and even the hair and make-up stylists stared at me, waiting for a decision. I remember feeling surprisingly calm, looking out over the lake, through the rain, and seeing a patch of clear skies heading in our direction. I knew exactly what Jono would want us to do… I decided to go ahead with everything outside as planned. Sure, I walked out in the rain, but we got the rainbow and the cocktail hour was beautiful. The rain started up again once we were in the tent and didn’t even affect the fireworks!

The ceremony was my favorite part of the day, I feel like I remember every second of it. I wasn’t sure how our interfaith ceremony would turn out (he is Jewish and I am Catholic), but our officiant did an amazing job of balancing our traditions and focusing on our love for one another and our families. She also met with us each individually beforehand to remind us to be present, and it really helped. A friend sung “Feels like home” during the ceremony, while the wedding party and our immediate family members passed around and each blessed our wedding rings. We stood holding each other, looking out over our guests and the beautiful surroundings and listening to our friend’s beautiful voice and the sweet lyrics; we really soaked in the moment and I will never forget feeling so happy and fortunate. It was incredibly special.

Another memorable part of the ceremony was the weather. It was crazy for those 40 minutes, we had rain, sun, wind… and best of all a double rainbow, just as the officiant had finished saying something about how couples who get married in bad weather can weather any storm! We felt so blessed that weekend, but the rainbow was like a sign from nature affirming our commitment.

Vermont Wedding by Dreamlove Wedding Photography

Gorgeous. Simply, perfectly gorgeous. And really, that doesn’t even begin to describe my feelings on this fall fête captured by Dreamlove Wedding Photography in the picture perfect town of Woodstock, Vermont. There aren’t words for how much I love every bit of this wedding. It embraces all that is lovely about a Vermont wedding done so with loads of that understated style I just can’t get enough of. From the covered bridges to the vintage stoles to the bride’s mittens (so adorable), it’s the definition of vintage chic perfection. Click here for even more to swoon over!

From Dreamlove Wedding PhotographyThanks for taking the time to look over this vintage-travel-inspired Vermont winter wedding. Shay incorporated all sorts of unique DIY details into her day, but she also incorporated some very old family traditions. She wore her great great grandmother’s gold bracelet, from 1847, and wrapped her gorgeous bouquet up with a vintage brooch from her grandmother. Shay also treated her bridesmaids like royalty! She gave them gorgeous silk robes and gave them each a vintage fur stole to keep warm during her brisk November wedding! Shay herself wore a vintage fur shoulder wrap and an adorable set of mittens! Seth proposed to Shay at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, so she also incorporated lots of French details into the decor. She decorated the chapel with live moss and twigs, and used vintage postcards for at the table names. Shay herself designed the seating cards as vintage-style luggage tags. To top off the evening, guests set wish lanterns into the night sky… it was so beautiful!

From The Bride…Seth proposed in Paris, at the Eiffel Tower, on my birthday. With such an amazing proposal, you’d think he’d planned it for months, but he decided to propose the week before while we were vacationing in Ireland with his family! He bought a simple band with a gold Celtic knot from a local goldsmith in Dingle, Ireland and of course, I said yes!

We decided on a fall wedding, my favorite season. November always brings warm feelings of family and friends, long walks in the crisp air and cozy afternoons warming by the fire. It seemed like the perfect time for a romantic, vintage wedding!  Even though we live in Colorado, both of our families are on the east coast so we decided on a “destination wedding” in Woodstock, Vermont – the quintessential quaint New England town, picture perfect, down to its covered bridges. Everything was within walking distance of the incredible Woodstock Inn, and their grand fireplace quickly became the spot to stop and chat with family and friends.

We wanted our wedding to be elegant but rustic, vintage and romantic. It was so important to us to have the wedding truly be about our union and creating an evening for our closest family members and friends to celebrate. So, we created our own ceremony, wrote our own vows and had Seth’s brother officiate it for us. We had our guests bless our rings and after our unity candle, offer each other a sign of peace to bring the families together. The reception was held afterwards at The Woodstock Inn, decorated with old family photos, vintage elements and everything was accented with moss and candles. We ended the night sending up wish lanterns and watching them disappear into the starry night.

Everything came together so fabulously with so much help from our fabulous family members and vendors. Anthologie Press did an unbelievable job creating our print materials and I can’t thank my parents enough for the endless crafting they did to bring this together. Dreamlove Photography documented our day more amazingly than I could have ever imagined and were such a breeze to work with.  It was a day we will never forget!

My advice to brides planning now… squeeze your fiancé and breathe. The day really will be worth it!

Vermont Wedding by a love supreme photography

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Before we all dive headfirst into plates of turkey and sweet potatoes, we wanted to share this extra special wedding with all of you. This super fun and adorable couple held their wedding the same weekend that Hurricane Irene decided to come down hard on Vermont and left them, along with 100 of their guests stranded for days. But even that didn’t stop them from having a fabulous celebration! a love supreme photography was there to capture all the fun details and lucky for us, there’s much more in the gallery!

Click here to see the entire gallery of images!

From a love supreme photographyI’m not even sure words can describe just how plain awesome this wedding was. Auste and Jonas and 200 of their loved ones gathered at Camp Neringa in Brattleboro, VT to celebrate. The handmade details were amazing, Auste is stunningly beautiful and absolutely hilarious, their family and friends were incredibly gracious and welcoming, Jonas has some killer dance moves, and I’m pretty sure we partied all night long. The fun just didn’t stop!

And all of this happened right in the middle of Hurricane Irene’s worst. I stayed the night and left about 20 minutes before the main roads got washed away, leaving about 100 wedding guests and the entire wedding party stranded for four days! Their story made a couple of newspapers, and was on the Today Show, NBC Nightly News, and Inside Edition! Auste says, “we’re all home safe now and finally able to laugh about the whole ordeal. It was pretty inspiring seeing how everyone came together and turned a disaster into a wonderful celebration! I had almost forgotten through all the hurricane drama that the entire weekend began with our beautiful wedding!”

Vintage Vermont Wedding by Dreamlove Wedding Photography

This vintage inspired wedding is chock-full of pretty colors and some of the sweetest DIYs you ever did see. Right now we’re totally loving the white tent lined with vintage handkerchiefs, the tea tins turned floral vases, and the picturesque Vermont setting including a sweet, little love chapel. Dreamlove Wedding Photography captured all the details perfectly and if you’re like me and love a pretty, outdoor New England fete, you can click here for even more.

From Dreamlove Wedding PhotographyAndrea and Joe had one of the most quintessential New England weddings we’ve photographed yet.  They incorporated some very cool DIY ideas into their day, had fun lawn games for guests, and happened to get one of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve seen in a long time.  But, what struck us about their wedding was that they somehow managed to have everything in balance on their wedding day.  What I mean is, they didn’t over-do it with the decorations.  They had their ceremony in a church that fit roughly the same number of guests they invited, and they didn’t sweat the details.  I feel like, as photographers, we see so many couples who want to incorporate tons of decoration ideas into their wedding.  Sometimes, I feel like this can work depending on the venue and number of guests, but more often than not, I feel like the amount and variety of decoration can overwhelm guests.  And when there is so much to take in, I think in the end, lots of folks miss the details that couples put so much work into!

Andrea and Joe did a great job of picking a simple decoration theme (colorful cardstock paper circles and hearts sewn together) and using that theme to tie their wedding together. Andrea was able to get a room at the Wildflower Inn in Lyndonville, Vermont to get ready in, and it happened to have the most gorgeously “classic” Vermont backdrop ever!  Before Andrea and Joe met for their first look photo, they exchanged love letters.  It was such a sweet idea, and really seemed to keep things in perspective for the day.  After shooting some lovely rustic portraits of Andrea and Joe (including one where we were surprised by a crew of bicyclists!), we headed to the Newark Union Church for their ceremony.

Andrea and Joe had worked together to create several garlands of paper cardstock hearts and circles which they strung up around the alter of the church.  The simple garlands really added a romantic shabby-chic feel to their ceremony.  They also designed simple paper cones for guests to scoop dried flower petals and toss as they exited the ceremony. The tent reception was just a short walk from the church, and it was held in Joe’s parent’s backyard.  Again, they had strung up garlands of cardstock circles from all corners of the tent, and decorated the tables using tea tins as flower vases.  They hung old family photos on a vintage bird cage, and handed out adorable porcelain bird salt and pepper shakers as gifts!  Andrea hung vintage handkerchiefs that belonged to both of her grandmothers along one wall of the tent, and also wrapped one around her gorgeous rose bouquet.  After dancing and toasting, the evening was topped off with one of the most gorgeous sunsets we’ve seen all summer.  This was truly a perfect Vermont wedding.

From Kingdom Wedding PhotographyMolly & A.C. got married in an open field right next to Lake Willoughby in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. They selected this spot because Molly and her family used to spend their summer vacations at the lake; you can still see where they etched their names into the path leading up to the vacation cabin.

In the week leading up to their wedding, we literally got pummeled with rain, downpours, storms; roads were washed away, fields were soaked and flooded and things didn’t look too bright for their outdoor ceremony. However, the day of the wedding, it cleared (and more importantly DRIED) up.  All the details you see in the photos are DIY.  Molly hunted down the perfect pieces of fabric for the party favors (Vermont Maple Mustard – if you haven’t tried it, you’re truly missing out on something!), her cousin made all the flower arrangements and tablescapes and everything came together so beautifully.

Their dog was also their ring bearer and completely stole the show and was also a constant fixture in all family portraits.

From the bride: Our event was a marriage of creativity, haute-rustic farminess, blissful exuberance, and food snobbery, all under a blanket of earth-shaking love — and we did not break the bank! We planned our wedding in 3.5 months. There were barn-cleaning parties and grass seeding cocktail hours, which doubled as platforms for experimenting with signature wedding cocktails and hors d’oeuvres concocted from the garden. After a few months, during which four truckloads of dust were hauled out from under the floorboards, the historic red barn was ready for decorations. Jordan’s mother Dana— “the magician”, who is a creative force—started scouring yard sales, church bazaars, and thrift stores and managed to score 200 mismatching vintage china plates. Dana made a custom champagne-bucket label and designed a fantastic napkin ring with wire and old buttons which, along with masses of tissue paper dahlias from a Martha Stewart pattern, was replicated 200 times by family and friends at the “Ladies’ Arts and Crafts Bachelorette Night.” Dana next went about turning the J.Crew “Goddess” bridal gown into an original masterpiece. Using the ivory satin from Jordan’s grandmother’s wedding gown, she made a stunning custom sash, along with 100 appliqué satin leaves that cascaded down the back of the gown on a thin ribbon. With the same dahlia pattern and the ivory satin, she also made a head piece for Jordan. It was to be a “hats wedding” and all guests and wedding party were asked to don some sort of creative chapeau.

With Vermont’s Worcester Mountain range as a backdrop, the guests watched Jordan literally skip (some say fly) down the aisle and leap into Dan’s arms. The same mountain range is etched onto the matching custom wedding rings, which were made by Fire & Metal goldsmiths, a small boutique in Burlington, by the same craftsman who had made the groom’s parents’ wedding bands almost exactly thirty-one years ago.

Following the ceremony, guests made their way back to the new flat “wedding green” for cocktail hour. They found their names on the posted seating chart (the tables were named after vegetables and labeled with seed packets) and then fastened personalized name tags penned by Jordan, onto their selected mason jar or French table wine glass. The glasses were arranged on a custom tree form table (Jordan’s step-father builds handicap-accessible tree houses and sculptural tree furniture) which was marked with a sign that read, “how about a glass of wine, sunshine?” or, “perhaps a beer, my dear?” Dinner was served family-style in the barn, followed by dancing outside under the tent to a local band, Johnny Reid & Friends, featuring Bruce Sklar on piano. The band learned Ray LaMontagne’s “You are the Best Thing” as a surprise song for Jordan & Dan. Everybody took to the floor and danced the night away. Following the widespread enthusiasm for the wedding, the von Trapps have decided to transform Bliss Ridge into a wedding venue.

From the Bride… Marrying in a church was most important to us. From the beginning, we felt strongly that the importance lay in the ceremony. It was the main reason why everyone was gathering to celebrate and we didn’t want to forget that.  So we carefully selected the music, readings and included our special unique touches that we felt would best represent us and the day. We felt like you couldn’t find a more beautiful and perfect church than one in New England.  Since we made many trips to Vermont while we dated we feel in love with the area and the old white steepled churches. We dreamed of a beautiful church with stained glass, candles, lots of flowers and even more love. We found that in The First Congregational Church of Manchester.  Not only did we find the perfect church we found the perfect venue at the Equinox Resort’s Ponds Pavilion. The venue was in the most idyllic setting and the way we felt walking down the berm to the venue was something we wanted our family and friends to experience too.

We are both outdoor nature lovers, so while we dated we made many trips to the Green Mountains of Vermont and fell in love with the state. We considered California where I grew up or New York/New Jersey where we met and where Kevin was from, but ultimately kept coming back to the idea of a destination weekend wedding since so many of our family and friends would already have to travel, why not make it in a place we both love and shared many wonderful weekends while we dated. We also wanted a small, intimate, casual but elegant wedding surrounded by nature. We knew having a wedding where we grew up would ultimately be hard to keep small.  Asking our guests to travel was asking a lot, but we knew since we wanted an intimate wedding our closest family and friends that would be able to make it was all that we wanted.  We decided since all of our guests were traveling to be a part of our special day we wanted it to be a weekend of events.  We really wanted our guests to fall in love with Vermont like we have.

Throughout our relationship traveling has been a passion of ours.   So we decided to go with a travel theme.  We started with our Save the Dates, carried it over to our invitations and throughout our reception details. Our escort cards were compasses, our guest book/table was vintage postcards from the places we traveled spread on a gorgeous table filled with travel pieces, vintage luggage, wedding pics of our grandparents, and our table numbers were the countries we visited with a little story about our travels to that country.  Since our heritages are different we incorporated this into our wedding by having a cookie table with Dutch Specula’s (made by the groom’s mom) and Mexican Wedding Cookie’s (made by one of the bridesmaids) for our guests to enjoy.  Our thank you cards will also be pictures of us holding “Thank You” signs in Spanish and Dutch. (Gracias and Dank U!) We are also big campers and love s’mores, so we made sure to have a s’mores bar for our guests to enjoy around the fire pit snuggling up in the blankets we had in baskets for our guests to take home. We truly feel like it was a magical weekend that we will never forget.

The Quechee Club Wedding from Alternate Angles + Unique Weddings by Alexis

This beautiful couple gets an A+ for their gorgeous wedding. With the help of Unique Weddings by Alexis, they really played up the natural beauty and elegance of the Vermont country side in their big day design. The color palette was simple, but it totally popped against the brilliant greens of the natural surroundings. And the floral design was simply fabulous, definitely an extension of the beauty of the land. The whole affair was captured by the oh-so-talented Alternate Angles, and we love every element. Make sure you save some time to peruse the gallery for more!

From Unique Weddings by Alexis … This wedding felt elegant without being stuffy. It was a classy, yet had a fun and inviting atmosphere for the guests. The couple really took care to build the wedding around the natural surrounds of Quechee, Vermont.

Elegance and care of the guests were top priorities for this couple and you could see this in all aspects of the wedding. The fun color scheme of bright orange was refreshing and unique compared to the more traditional autumn colors at many September weddings.

And it was the details which really made this event unforgettable! They had custom designed CD favors at each place setting, Vermont-themed hotel welcome baskets for all of their guests, wooden signage for the wedding throughout the town, chalkboard setting charts, popcorn machine and the cutest restroom amenity baskets in their luxurious executive trailers!

From the Bride…Ian and I first met and fell in love over food. For over three years, our relationship grew over cooking and creating great meals together, hosting and attending dinner parties, dining out, eating in and breaking bread with family and friends.  We wanted our wedding to be an extension of our lives at home together by creating a comfortable, intimate celebration of food, laughter and love.  We added as many DIY touches as possible to ensure this was truly a reflection of us and our families.  All the different elements of the wedding tied back to a simple play on words, “EAT. PLAY. LOVE.” which became the concept and essence of the entire wedding weekend.

All of the weekend’s events took place at Ian’s parents’ house in Vermont.  We wanted our guests to feel as though they were just coming over for a party, but the gardens, pond, trees and wild lupine growing in the fields might have also had something to do with it.  It is a very special place where Ian’s grandmother’s ashes rest and now three sets of family vows have been exchanged.  We couldn’t have imagined sharing such a special day anywhere else.

We weaved personal touches throughout the entire weekend.  We hosted a pre-wedding yoga session and a welcome BBQ the night before to include all our guests in lieu of a formal rehearsal dinner.  We honored both of our families’ backgrounds with a modern, multi-cultural ceremony. Friends of the family, including our officiant surprised our guests with a fun-filled fiddle session during cocktail hour and we kept the food coming, ending the festivities with a farewell breakfast on Sunday.  A table was set up under the chuppah during the ceremony to display objects in memory of each of our grandparents who passed away.  Ian and I designed our wedding rings and had them made by a friend of the family.   For favors, we gave out bottles of home-brewed beer that Ian and his cousin crafted and bottled in our kitchen in Philadelphia.  Ian’s father constructed the chuppah, wooden dinner tables and even the Japanese style tea house that Ian and I had the pleasure of staying in during our time in Vermont.  His mother, with a team of family and friends, arranged all the flowers for the wedding and played a huge part in helping to bring my entire vision to life.  Ian tediously hung picture frames over the welcome table by wire.  Family and friends pitched in throughout the week to get signs painted, ribbons tied, flags and lights hung, seating cards and programs made and everything in place.  It was a true family affair full of togetherness, good eats and good times and it was certainly a weekend that we will never forget!

Spring Okemo Mountain Resort Wedding from Emily Herzig Floral Studio

Spring time flowers really are just the best, aren’t they? And after touring the garden of Emily Herzig Floral Studio with this wedding, I now realize Vermont has got some absolutely stunning stems. Seriously, even with the worlds most adorable flower girl and a bride with some serious style, the florals are able to hold their own. Totally love it. If your itching to see a few more inspired flower arrangements, make sure to pop over to Emily’s blog. And once you’ve done that, click here for the entire gallery of images from Rodeo & Co. Photography!

When we got engaged, Chris and I both had the same idea about our wedding – we wanted an event that would allow friends and family to spend a weekend together and have a blast! We selected Okemo Mountain Resort as our venue because it was the perfect location for everything (ceremony, reception, lodging, dining, and outdoor activities). We knew that we wanted our event to reflect the natural surroundings and our love of the mountains, but it was working with our vendors that really solidified our vision for the wedding.

We selected Emily Herzig as our florist because, after looking at her work, we knew she would do exactly what we needed; translate our vague cues on floral design into creative, beautiful flowers that perfectly reflected the setting and feel of our wedding.

Emily’s brightly colored flowers, natural barn box style centerpieces and naturally trailing floral designs served as a focal point, and perfectly highlighted the bridesmaids spiced wine dresses from J. Crew. As she always does, Meg McGovern Hamilton of Rodeo & Co. Photography, captured the day beautifully with her great eye and unique style. And the (literal) icing on the cake? A fondant embellished with lace that perfectly matched my dress by Irene’s Cakes by Design.

Our big weekend was everything that we hoped for. We spent 3 amazing nights with family and friends, soaked in all of the springtime beauty Vermont has to offer, and had a beautiful wedding that perfectly reflected our personalities.

Vermont Wedding by Dreamlove Wedding Photography

This Vermont wedding by Dreamlove Wedding Photography is bursting with personality.  I love when a couple takes a wedding trend and totally infuses their own individuality and style into it.  The wild, overgrown and bushy initials against rustic doors are an awesome take on the traditional moss letters.  And I love that the entire venue is covered in the paper cranes handmade by the groom’s brother even the wrought-iron chandeliers.  There are even more funky finds in the full gallery so make sure you head on over there!

From Dreamlove Wedding Photography… Emelia and Tony had a gorgeous wedding in Burlington, Vermont.  Their ceremony and reception had tones of urban hip, blended with country vintage charm that seemed to fit both the bride and groom’s personalities perfectly.

So many friends and family played a role in this wedding, it was touching to see a community come together to create an amazing wedding day!  Paul, the groom’s brother, and an artist based in Barcelona, folded one thousand paper cranes to hang in the entry way to their reception, and to decorate the tables with.  In Japan, a thousand paper cranes are given as a gift, by someone who wishes a thousand years of happiness and prosperity upon the couple.  A family friend of the bride designed and built their ceremony arch, which was made from bent branches and decorated with hydrangeas, the flower of choice for the reception.  A close friend of Emelia’s, Casey Reynolds, and Emelia’s mother, Kendree Parker, designed and decorated the reception with flowers that poured from antique ball jars and vases.

Emelia surprised Tony by wearing a pair of adorable red flats, a gift from Tony early in their relationship.  Tony was overjoyed when he saw her in them!  The couple also designed their own cookbooks as wedding favors to guests, and brought out chalkboards at the reception for guests to write messages on!

Emelia and Tony had their wedding at a country club, but this hardly felt like a country club wedding.  It just goes to show, that with a unique vision and friends and family to lend their creative skill, weddings can have all of the charm of a vintage country setting, no matter where they are!
