A Gorgeous Cake to Make at Home

Want to up your cake making game? Whether a birthday party, dinner with friends or a last minute celebration, this dessert is just the thing to make. It comes packed with layers of rosemary infused vanilla cake and blackberry compote plus gobs of buttercream all crafted by Le Loup and Bella Cosa Photography. Click here for even more and find the step by step below!

From stylist and photographer, D’Arcy Benincosa… The inspiration from this shoot was to bring together pieces I’ve collected from all over the world and use them in a natural light kitchen. From blue laced fine bone china plates from Gien, France, to silver forks picked up from a trunk sale in England. The spoons have been picked up along my travels and work in Spain, Ireland, New York City, and little shops here in Park City, Utah. All this paired with white dishes from Crate & Barrel. It’s a dream kitchen and a dream cake! Baking should be about good food, good memories, and pretty things.

Rosemary + Fresh Blackberry Cake

Pull out your favorite, go-to vanilla cake recipe. Before filling up your pans, fold in 2 tablespoons of finely minced fresh rosemary! After baking let your cake cool completely and get ready to assemble.

Things you’ll need:

  • Rosemary Simple Syrup
  • Fresh Blackberry Compote
  • Cream Cheese Buttercream

Simple Syrup:

  • 1 c. water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 sprigs rosemary

Throw these all into a pot and let boil—leave the sprigs of rosemary whole. As it heats the rosemary will infuse the simple syrup.

Blackberry Compote:

  • 2 c. fresh blackberries
  • ½ c. sugar

Cut the blackberries into small pieces., but don’t emulsify, and add the sugar and letsit.

Cream Cheese Buttercream:

  • 1 c. cream chesse
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. Mexican Vanilla
  • 1/3 c. heavy cream

Whip together cream cheese and unsalted butter. Slowly add in the powdered sugar. Once it’s all incorporated, add in the vanilla. Finally, slowly drizzle in the heavy cream, and vigorously whip the buttercream until light and airy – about one minute.

To Assemble:

  1. Halved Cake Layer
  2. Rosemary Simple Syrup
  3. Buttercream
  4. Blackberry Compote
  5.  Repeat

…….

From the baker, Tess Comrie I have always had a love for food, especially when it comes to unique flavor combinations. I believe that a cake should taste as good as it looks–maybe even better.

My design aesthetic is rustic and simple. Growing up in a design-based family, I have always had a passion for beauty. I believe that the most beautiful things are organic and never overworked. All of my cakes are custom made with only the freshest ingredients, just like the flowers that top them.

Rustic Ranch Welcome Dinner BBQ

Wide open spaces and delectable BBQ dinners are just a few of my favorite things, so it’s no surprise that this warm welcome has lassoed my heart. Guests gathered mountainside for a reception filled with sweet treats and wildflower Honey Of A Thousand Flowers to kick off one special weekend, and with Leo Patrone behind the lens every detail is country chic. Stay tuned for their wedding, up next!

From Honey Of A Thousand FlowersAndrew and Lindsay had a destination wedding in the mountains of Utah, and had each of their wedding’s events held at different mountain locations throughout Deer Valley so their guests really had a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Their welcome dinner was held mountainside and was complete with BBQ, a ski lift ride to the top of the mountain for see the views, a country western band, and tables filled with wild flowers. It was a wonderful way to kick off their special weekend!

From The Bride… Robbie and I spent the majority of our time dating traveling to cool places, exploring new trails, and overall experiencing new things together. The outdoors has always been our playground, and the mountains have always felt like home. I was adamant that a traditional wedding wasn’t my style, and I needed to be outside with open spaces and nature. We wanted to give people a little taste of what we love as well as share an experience that would truly create memories. A full weekend with friends and family seemed perfect, especially since everyone is so dispersed around the country. “One big party in the mountains” was how I kept referring to our special day.

The planning process was overwhelming at first. We debated just including our parents and sisters, but we knew that this day was as much a celebration for family and friends as it was for us. Ultimately, we wanted our wedding to be greater than just us and, in hindsight, we are really glad we invited as many people as we did.

We didn’t start off with a master plan. I didn’t have a binder – I didn’t even have a folder. We literally took it one decision at a time. We found flowers we loved, and we picked them. We found a cake we loved, and we picked that. I bought my Anthropologie dress (my dress for the reception) three days before we flew into SLC. We didn’t look at everything from a bird’s eye view. I didn’t try to find things that fit a theme — I just found things I loved and the theme evolved. If you make decisions on a smaller scale based on what you truly love, you’ll be surprised how everything falls into place and it all goes together in the end. My biggest realization in planning my wedding is that I didn’t have to follow all the rules!

In the end, it was the most meaningful, memorable trip of my life not only because I got to marry Rob, but also because I got to spend 72 hours with the best friends and family, in a place I loved, and share my love for the outdoors, nature and adventure with them. We had so many guests say that they never would have seen this or done this in their lives if not for the invitation…and it was music to my ears! So don’t be scared of destination weddings. Give people an excuse to travel, and make it as easy as possible on them.

From Carla Boecklin… So many personalized details reflect the way in which the bride and groom crafted the day into their own unique celebration.

Lauren and Robbie wanted the wedding to feel like a big party, so they hosted the entire day (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, post-reception games) at a private home on the outskirts of Park City, Utah. Also important to them was not having to engage in conventional wedding activities. For example, the bride and grown were relaxed and informal the morning of the wedding, not concerned about running into one another on the property as they prepped. Also, at the reception, there was no formal entrance, no bouquet toss, no cake cutting, no first dance (in fact, no dancing at all). Instead, the couple treated their guests to a gorgeous gourmet dinner while an iPod played their favorite songs; and, afterward, people played games on the lawn. They enjoyed the day exactly as they wanted: nothing contrived, everything genuine.

Certain intimate parts of the day were extraordinary to capture. The groom’s mother putting on his boutonniere resulted in a forehead-to-forehead emotional moment between them. The first of the bride’s two wedding dresses had been custom-altered to include lace from her mom’s wedding gown (a surprise — and her mother’s reaction was priceless!). Lauren also wore jewelry from grandmothers on both sides of her family, and her sister did her hair and makeup. The First Look, held in the aspens away from the venue, was filled with so much glee and cuteness that I could barely keep up with my clicking.

Other thoughtful additions, like the rustic ‘naked cake’ and the citrus-mint palette, were a perfect fit for the day and magic for my lens. Because travel, exploration, and destination are important to the bride and groom, their wedding bands were engraved with the latitude & longitude coordinates of the wedding location. Additionally, as the wedding was a destination event, compasses were used as parts of the invitation and as gifts for the guests.

Mostly, it was the sincerity of the day that touched my heart. Lauren and Robbie are such a wonderful pair — so adorable, so loving, so perfect for one another — and it was obvious that every single person at that wedding was as smitten with them as I was.

Vintage Winter Wonderland Wedding Inspiration

As the chilly days slowly fade away and spring peeks it’s pretty head into the world, we’re gathering up the last bits of snow-covered inspo for all you sweeties planning winter soirees next year. So when Koman Photography and Everly Events sent over this vintage sweetness, we knew it had to have a home in the lineup. Complete with a cozy stole and graceful mare, this gallery will warm your soul.

From Koman Photography….We are very excited to submit this beautiful Winter Wedding and Engagement Inspiration Shoot today! John and I were apart of an amazing team of extremely talented artists who planned, designed, and created a magical setting at the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah.

From Shirley Han of Everly Events Here in Southern California, while we have abundant amounts of sunshine, snow is one thing we rarely ever get to see! Our winter’s here feel a lot like summer, so for this shoot, I dreamed of going somewhere cold, beautiful, and covered in snow, so that I could get the winter I have always dreamed of. Travelling is also a huge passion of mine, so I knew this was the perfect opportunity to venture out into a new and undiscovered place, which is why we thought Park City in Utah was the perfect location and backdrop for our winter wonderland. This was also an amazing opportunity and fun challenge for me to reach out to vendors who were all based out in Utah – it was a great chance to expand my network and meet some amazing people out there!

I was very fortunate to be able to work with the amazing photographers Marlene and John of Koman Photography, who love travelling and adventure just as much as I do, and they happened to be in Utah already on a snowboarding trip, so as my eyes and ears out there, they were able to find this amazing location tucked away behind the Canyons Resort in Park City. It was a long, arduous drive from Orange County to Park City (11 hours to be exact!) but it was so worth it for the scenery, snow, mountains, and the beautiful wildlife that surrounded us. The adorable yaks, majestic horse, and peacocks that were walking around the venue while we were shooting had to have been one of my favorite highlights from the day!

This inspiration shoot was a personal one, I was so fortunate that my dear friends James and Ellis (who also happened to recently get engaged in real life) were able to join me on this road trip to Utah and agreed to be my models for this shoot. There is something I love so much about working with real couples – not only for their natural love for one another, but also because I am able to tell their real story throughout the photo shoot as well.

When putting together design for this shoot, I envisioned lots of soft flowing lines and textures, so I selected a dress for our bride that was lush and simple, that would just blend right in with the snow. Paired with a lush and soft fur stole and hand knit mittens, Ellis kept warm and beautiful out in the chilly snow. The florals for the shoot were designed to be organic, natural and free-flowing to complement the outdoors that we were immersed in. The bride’s bouquet was loosely hand-tied with beautiful garden roses and wild vines to give it that natural feel. The flowers were the perfect color to pop against the white snow and give a hint that spring time is just right around the corner. We included beautiful props from Refined Vintage Rentals such as the old-fashioned telephone, dresser, and love letters from James that he wrote to Ellis during their early dating years. And lastly, no photo shoot is complete without an adorable teepee pitched in the snow for our lovely couple to sit in surrounded by lots of throws and pillows!

A big thank you to our contributors: To Marlene and John of Koman Photography for always shooting the most beautiful and romantic images. To Heidi Min for coming with me on this trip and being my right hand woman in the design and set-up of this day. To Natalie and Alex of The Petal Coop for their beautiful floral designs. To Lynette of Refined Vintage Events for her amazing vintage rentals, which looked so beautiful in the snow! To Katherine Ross of Script Merchant Calligraphy for designing and writing up one of my favorite lyrics from The Beatles, a perfect complement to this love story. To Cassidy Budge from Flour & Flourish for the gorgeous cake, dessert, and sugar flowers that were all handmade by her (so amazing!). To Chloe of Bella Wedding Bridal for the beautiful wedding dress and hair accessories. To Katie Livingston for her beautiful hair and make-up designs that made our beautiful Ellis even more beautiful. And to Friar Tux for the beautiful grey suit that made James look so handsome and picture perfect. This day could not have been made possible without each and every one of you!

50 Shades of Winter Gray Wedding Inspiration

There may be a certain movie hitting the big screens as we speak, but this photo shoot, inspired by this scandalous movie’s title, is decidedly more tame. But tame doesn’t mean boring, as D’Arcy Benincosa captured every stunning shade of gray and silver and the very real love between one newly married couple. This is one seductive shoot we can promise you’ll enjoy without any risk of blushing involved.

From D’Arcy Benincosa This shoot was inspired by the real wedding between this beautiful couple! We loved the colors and details and decided to use their true love story as a background for our “50 Shades of Winter Gray” shoot!

From The Bride… Mike and I were destined for each other. Our mom’s were friends during high school in Cleveland, Ohio. My mom met my father while he was going to school there and moved to Utah to be with him. Mike’s parents moved here a few years later and our parents would get together from time to time. We have pictures of he and I on his first birthday. As time went on our parents lost touch. Years later, at a New Year’s Eve party, we met and started dating. By our third date we figured out that we had played together as children!

Living in Utah we love the mountains and love Park City! Our wedding (and this shoot) was simple and elegant with shades of greys, white florals, and jewelry from where I work at O. C. Tanner (where our rings were designed).

Snowy Mountain Winter Wedding

Let me tell you a little something about the Stein Eriksen Lodge: it’s awesome.  It’s the kind of place where you can say “I do” against a breathtaking snow-filled backdrop, then celebrate those nuptials with a rockin’ party, dancing ’til dawn totally included.  And when it hosts a gorgeous affair like this one captured by Cory Ryan, well… watch out, loves.  See so much more right here.

From Cory Ryan Photography… Park City, Utah is such a magical place for a destination wedding photographer (especially a Texas photographer)! On Missy and Garrett’s wedding day, little snowflakes glistened through the sun as they fell from the sky onto the stunning grounds of Stein Eriksen Lodge, making for the most picture-perfect snowy wonderland.

Missy wore a white fur cropped jacket over her dress to stay warm (maybe also with the help of Garrett’s flask of Fireball Whiskey- ha!), while the ladies all had furs in shades of brown to compliment their floor-length plum dresses. Missy also wore her grandmother’s antique sapphire necklace.

The flowers were spiked with green succulents, deep purple calla lilies, and winter berries. Guests were greeted with the stunning snowy mountain views off the Flagstaff Deck, and hand warmers wrapped in burlap bags for the wintery weather. After the sweet ceremony, punctuated with laughs by Garrett’s swinging his Steeler’s Terrible Towel, the festivities moved indoors to the brand new ballroom. The modern floral centerpieces played off the winter bouquet colors, with tones of gold thrown in. Missy and Garrett went straight into their first dance, followed by a very emotional father-daughter dance. The live band and DJ got the party hopping after dinner, and got everyone from toddler twins to grandpa out on the dance floor! It was such an honor to be included in such an amazing day!!! Big congrats Missy & Garrett!

Floral Covered Wedding in Park City

If I’m speechless as I gaze upon these gorgeous images, I can’t even imagine how guests felt as they stepped into this garden party wonderland. Artisan Bloom created stunning works of art for this wedding, with Soiree Productions leading the way. Pepper Nix captured every beautiful moment and you too can get lost in this floral fantasy right this way.

From Artisan BloomGorgeous couple, gorgeous setting and gorgeous flowers make for a (you guessed it!) GORGEOUS wedding. Kylie and David chose the beautiful Mountain Terrace at St. Regis in Deer Valley Utah to exchange their vows among their closest family and friends. Stunning views overlooking Park City created a memorable backdrop for a custom created chuppah constructed from local aspen trunks. A color palette of soft sunset tones, soft earth tones and pale greens complimented the natural palette inspired by the Wasatch Mountains.

Fresh summer dahlias, vintage garden roses, honeysuckle and hydrangea were incorporated throughout the Mountain lawn and tented patio terrace. A clear glass tent adorned with crystal chandeliers and tiny bistro lights kept guests celebrating under the stars.

Summer Wedding in Deer Valley Mountains

Mountain weddings speak to me. Blame it on the blues and purples and greens of the landscape, but they are my jam. Which makes this wedding, from Gideon Photography, right up there with all of my favorite weddings ever. Especially with the stunning floral design from Honey Of A Thousand Flowers!

From Gideon Photography… Virginia and Joe had the perfect end of Summer wedding atop the mountains of Deer Valley above Park City Utah. The views were awe inspiring, the weather a bit scary at first, but cleared up just enough for a rainbow as the couple walked up the aisle. Guest came from all over the US to join this very special couple and celebrate their union. Laura Wright Events not only designed the perfect day but made sure everything went off without a hitch.

Pink Outdoor Park City Wedding

You may know Park City, UT for Sundance Film Festival, but after today’s wedding from Erin Kate Photography, you’re going to have a new (very pretty) image to associate with the cute little mountain town. Spoiler alert: it’s this colorful and sweet as can be wedding, which is totally doing it’s part to put Park City on the map.

From the photographer… Lizzy & Tim live in the old mining town of Park City. Today, this town is known for it’s great outdoor activities and the Sundance Film Festival. Both Lizzy & Tim are from other states but have settled in a cute historic home just off Main Street. The perfect place for their nuptials was the Catholic Church just up the block. And just down the block their casual reception was held at the Town Lift Plaza surrounded by the Park City mountain resort and Town ski lift. The couples mint green scooter, adorned with pretty flowers, provided transportation from the ceremony to the reception for the bride and groom. They did stop at the High West Distillery to celebrate with their bridal party before making their big entrance over the town bridge into the plaza reception.

Lizzy & Tim chose colors of pinks, peaches, and greens to brighten their day. Bridesmaids chose their own dress in hues of taupe, pink, or peach. Groomsmen wore gray suits with peach ties, and brown shoes. Flowers included a mix of peonies, roses, dusty miller, poppy pods, and succulents. Cupcakes were provided for the guests and a chocolate cake for the couple. Guests enjoyed a midnight snack of different flavored popcorn. The party continued late into the night under bistro lights, paper lanterns, and the stars!

Park City Wedding from Honey of a Thousand Flowers + Events by LMG

When it comes right down to it, it’s the floral design that makes a wedding in my book. And when you’ve got Sarah Winward by your side, it’s destined to be one super happy day. Add in all the rustic scenery an outdoor lover could imagine and you’ve got a woodland wedding dream-come-true. Jesse Erasmus snapped up all the photo goodness, and there’s even more right here.

From the Bride…We wanted to essentially “dress up” the rustic scenery, so we played up this look with natural wood farmhouse tables, forest animal favors, masquerade masks, and loose and wild looking flowers. Then we tied it all together with black accents. It was gorgeous and whimsical and completely unexpected.  Our guests loved it!

Did you have a theme for your wedding? Absolutely. Having a theme helped make every decision a little easier. Our wedding design was based on a woodland motif. We planned our wedding in Utah because of the incredible scenery and wanted to make sure that both our out-of-town friends and even local friends, really felt a sense of the awe-inspiring beauty at the reception location.

If so, what inspired the theme? Basically the idea of having this dinner party deep in the forest, under the moon, with lots of twinkling necklace lights draped through the trees. Everything from our homemade wild currant and rosemary cookie favors and animal place holders to our wildflower arrangements and forest creature masks at the end of the night ran with the woodland theme. However we also wanted to throw an elegant party, which is where the neutrals and black colors come in. The refined palette really helped balance it from something that could have been kitsch, to something a little more polished-like a masquerade.

What family, cultural, ethnic, or other traditions did you follow? Jessica’s family is Polish, so there was plenty of vodka for the guests to partake in toasts.  For the main toast, at the beginning of dinner, Jessica’s parents offered an introduction to the bride and groom based on an old Polish wedding tradition. Two shot glasses were placed on a tray. The newlyweds were each told to take a glass and drink to the toast. One glass was filled with water, one with vodka, and the tradition says that whoever discovers that theirs is the vodka, will be made the head of the household.

Describe your engagement: Dan proposed in a wobbly little rowboat on a cold, rainy Saturday on The Lake at Central Park. He nearly tipped the boat as he got down on his knee! People on the banks and bridges nearby were cheering and screaming for us! It was surreal.

Our favorite moment during the ceremony was: The end! Once we made our way back down the aisle, our wedding party immediately surrounded us with screams and applause. Everyone was so happy!!

Our favorite moment during the reception was: The dance party! Being with everyone on the dance floor and watching all our friends and family dance their pants off late into the night. It was cold out and yet everyone was sweating from having so much fun! It was one of the most fun nights of our lives!

The most unexpected event on our wedding day was: Having to ask our photographer, DJ, and late night taco cart to stay several hours past midnight! We had the property to ourselves all night so we let the party go as late as it could. We ended up dancing until the early morning hours!

But what takes this kind of oh-my-goodness gorgeous to the next level? From the Bride…Dave proposed over a long weekend getaway, during which our families met for the first time, at his parent’s house in Fripp Island, South Carolina.  We had so much fun spending the following days celebrating and sharing our joy with everyone, and we were overwhelmed by this wonderful revelation that our marriage would bring together two families that likely would have been the best of friends even without our relationship as the catalyst.  It was that feeling that set the tone for our wedding day—the overall goal was FUN, but more specifically, we wanted to create something that was unique and authentically us.  Though we live in New York now, neither Dave nor I are from here, so even before we got engaged, we always knew that our wedding would likely be our only chance to get all of our closest friends and family in one place at one time.  Our guests traveled from near and far to celebrate our love, so we knew we had to do our best to give them an experience they wouldn’t soon forget.

One thing we did that I would highly recommend to any bride going through the planning process is choose the vendors early.  We had our venue, photographer, videographer, and florist booked within the first month or so of our engagement, which gave us well over a year to figure out all the little details and ensured that everyone that became part of our “team” was our first-choice vendor.  And a team they became—booking them so far in advance gave us a lot of time to bounce around ideas and collaborate, which solidified our vision and helped make it more coherent.  We also had so much time to get to know them (and they us) that the wedding day itself felt like it was put together by friends, which it truly was.

Leo Patrone, our photographer, lives in Utah but is often traveling to shoot breathtaking weddings around the world, so we felt so lucky to work with him.  He really understood how to capture the natural light and beauty of our venue and our family and friends.  Our videographers, Gilbert Le and his team from Americana Cinema, were so discreet that we almost forgot they were there—this turned out to be a great thing, because everyone was really themselves in front of the camera, and what they created allows us to relive the day, exactly as we experienced it, whenever we wish.  Catherine Johnson, our Wedding Coordinator at the St. Regis, was invaluable—she kept us perfectly on schedule; was so calm when a freak rainstorm blew through while they were setting up (thankfully it passed) that I couldn’t help but stay calm, as well; and had an immediate answer to every last question.  She also introduced us to our band, Party Crashers, who kept everyone on the dance floor from the first song to the last—it was more like a concert than a wedding band!   While I was thrilled with all of our vendors, I was completely blown away by Sarah Winward, our florist.  She truly went above and beyond her floral duties to take on more of a stylist role, and was perhaps the most critical piece of the puzzle in bringing our vision to life.  No idea was too grand or complicated for her; she found a way to make everything happen.  We are so grateful for the wealth of experience our vendors brought to the table and the seamless way they executed everything.  It was beyond our wildest dreams and without a doubt the best day of our lives.

Park City, Utah Wedding from Joey Kennedy

The rustic open fields and beautiful mountaintops of Park City mingling with the all out glamour of this classic wedding is a lethal combination. The heart-stopping take your breath away kind of combo. And one that finds its beauty not only in its Utah surroundings but in the flowers by TriFecTa Design and the images by Joey Kennedy along with a film by Oneilove Media that is not to be missed. See so much more right here.

From the bride…My husband, Ben, and I briefly first met through a mutual friend in 2006 before I moved to Boston to pursue a career in politics. Upon my return to Salt Lake two years later, Ben and I happened to enroll in the same GMAT class in preparation to obtain our MBA’s. It was love at first re-sight and we have been attached at the hip ever since. We both decided law school was a better fit and with acceptance to several law schools, we chose to leap into our future together in San Diego, California. Seven months later, Ben proposed during our Spring Break of our first year of law school under a breath-taking Hawaiian waterfall with the glow of morning shining through the trees in the forest. It was absolutely perfect.

For a year and a half we meticulously planned every last wedding detail (while sitting in class) with my mom, florist, and day-of coordinator at the St. Regis. My husband and I aimed to have a white, lush, magical night in a fun environment surrounded by 200 of our dearest friends and family. We chose a Secret Garden theme to our wedding, adding dashes of moss and white and pale pink garden roses everywhere. I still get starry-eyed when I reflect back on the the most perfect day of our lives!

One of our favorite touches was writing our own wedding ceremony and incorporating advice from both of our parents, which made it even more personal and special. Not everything always goes as planned (our trio never showed up for the ceremony) but everything turned out better than perfect and we couldn’t be more happy with the way things turned out.

For the reception we chose to start the celebration by surprising guests with a dancing bear. My husband and I are very silly and quirky and we wanted our wedding to reflect us as a couple (and set the tone for the evening). Everyone got up and danced with us and the bear – it was so much fun and no one could stop talking about it. A major goal of ours was to make sure that our wedding was a celebration. We had a homemade photo booth, a s’mores station, a dessert table (I’ve never seen candy fly faster than they did at our wedding), a floral garden arbor filled with family photos, and a heart-pumping DJ who injected the room with energy! The whole affair was nothing short of magical. We feel so blessed.

Scottish Wedding Inspired Shoot from D’Arcy Benincosa Photography

Oh goodness, I can’t even begin to describe how deeply in love I am with this Scottish-inspired shoot from D’Arcy Benincosa Photography. From the Bride’s seriously amazing fishtail braid to her breathtaking florals from Galleria Floral to every pretty detail Sorella-Sorella placed perfectly – it couldn’t tug at my heart strings harder. Because it simply doesn’t get prettier than this, and you can see just what I am talking about right here.

From D’Arcy Benincosa Photography… For much of my life I have lived in Europe. One of my favorite places to be was in the Scottish Highlands. I read and studied about the rich culture and wanted to bring some of the old traditions to the highlands of Park City, Utah. When I met Amber and saw her stunningly long, vibrant red hair, I knew I had found the perfect Scottish bride. As a photographer who mostly shoots in New York City or Los Angeles, I wanted to reach out and introduce myself to new vendors to create something unique, personable, and with a touch of tradition to showcase our talents. Each vendor has newly come to the Park City wedding market. feel very lucky to call Park City, Utah home for a few months out of each year. It’s cool, crisp, fragrant, and the days are perfect for a destination wedding.

Traditional Scottish weddings are small affairs with customs that include the Maid of Honor washing the Bride’s feet before the ceremony, joining hands together during the ceremony with the clan tartan, toasting with the finest Scotch, eating lots of bread and cheese during the reception, and getting married in the highland groves. The lovely arch was handcrafted and tied together using limbs from the local willow trees. The willow tree leaves were cut fresh that morning and remained green while all the other trees in the mountains were variations of the bride’s red hair. The arch echoed the green of the bridesmaids dresses from Anthropologie, while the furs came from our grandmothers closets.

The hair and make-up inspirations was a simple affair. Lightly crafted braids that could be taken right off an ancient or modern Scottish lassie. The make up was simple, with warm colors and soft highlights. The hand crafted invitations and thank you notes expressed the Scottish phrase for “Many Thanks” by saying “Moran Taing” in delicate calligraphy. The challenge given to the florist was to create a wedding bouquet based off the Scottish thistle (yes, that lovely little flower that has become a very symbol for Scotland herself!). If you look closely you can see the purple/bluish bulb of a plant throughout the flowers in the bouquets and the centerpieces.

This shoot was simply stunning. Each image has a golden glow that is unique to this shoot. The final thing we needed to make this shoot transport us to Scotland was the professional bagpipe player we hired to come and play while we ate and talked and photographed and danced some jigs. The locals of Park City came out from their houses to see the event and the feeling of community that is present in the images is 100% real.

Utah Wedding by Leo Patrone Photography & Bluebird Events

The countless amazing weddings we see on SMP truly never lose their affect… in fact each day we get a little more obsessed. And if you think we gush about the weddings that we feature on the site, you should see just how excited we get when we’re actually at one. After all, it’s not every day that we get to witness two people pledge their love to one another, share an incredible weekend with the people you love, and watch some ridiculously talented vendors work their wedding magic on a breathtaking celebration. So when my friends Hadley and Brian tied the knot in Park City this past February… I was in all sorts of heaven. Weekend with my nearest and dearest friends-beautiful mountains of Utah-romantic winter wedding filled to the brim with stunning details-kind of heaven. With photography by the amazing Leo Patrone, planning and design by Meredith Parsons of Bluebird Events, and the reigning king of the dance party, Michael Antonia of The Flashdance on board for the affair, this wedding was as heartwarming as it was beautiful… and a fabulous party I won’t soon forget. Oh… and did I mention it was really, really, really pretty? As always, there’s lots more for you to feast your eyes on in the gallery. Congratulations Hadley & Brian!

From the beautiful bride Hadley… I have always been passionate about my family, friends and the mountains where I grew up. When the love of my life asked me to be his wife, it didn’t take us long to decide to tie the knot in my hometown of Park City, UT. Since we share a love of skiing and snowboarding, we thought a winter wedding would be a perfect setting to bring our closest friends and family together to celebrate. Our vision was to have a romantic affair that captured the history of the town and allowed our guests to enjoy every moment of the weekend.

Finding a talented photographer was top priority. Thank goodness we were directed to Leo Patrone who captured every moment and detail authentically and yet uniquely. Since we live over 2,000 miles away in New York City, we knew we needed help bringing our Park City vision to life. Luckily, we found the fabulous Meredith Parsons of Bluebird Events who designed a wedding that was perfectly us and took over the logistics so we could enjoy every second of the weekend with our families. I got most of my inspiration from wedding blogs (especially SMP!) and knew I wanted décor that had a warm, organic wintery feel. Meredith and her team made this feeling a reality for Brian and me, and we couldn’t have been happier.

The festivities kicked off with an intimate Thursday night rehearsal dinner party with our parents and wedding party at my parents’ home, catered by the talented Joe Saladyga of Savory Kitchens. Friday night after a raucous day on the ski slopes (with many of us wearing retro 80’s ski garb,) we held an incredible welcome party at the High West Whiskey Distillery with the most delicious bites and specialty cocktails – one named after our dog Huxley and the other called The Amos, a reference to the Tuck graduate school where Brian and I met.

Our wedding day was, in a word, perfect. Brian and I chose to do photos before the ceremony so we could enjoy the evening and also catch some day light. Thank goodness! Seeing each other for the first time was more emotional than we ever imagined and I’m grateful we had that special time together. We were married in the St. Mary’s Old Town Chapel, the oldest Catholic church in Utah, with our closest friends and family squeezed into the beautiful old building. I walked down the aisle to Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve and couldn’t take my eyes of my almost husband. One of my favorite moments of the entire day was looking out at everyone’s faces during the ceremony – I had the biggest grin on my face. The chapel was decorated with lots of candles and lanterns to keep in line with the romantic and historical feel of the building.

Our reception was right down the street at the Riverhorse Café, one of our favorite restaurants. I loved the hanging glass tea lights and mismatched vases on the tables. After a delicious meal, we rocked out on the dance floor with the fabulous DJ Michael Antonia of The Flashdance (he is a genius!). Our wedding weekend was more significant and more filled with love than Brian and I ever imagined possible and we feel so blessed.

Winter Celebration ~ Park City, Utah ~ From Soiree Productions

For all you up-and-coming winter brides, this one’s for you!

photography by Nick Sokoloff

I lovvvvvvvve that first shot … so sweet ~ so magnificent!

Sarah and Michael took their shared love of the snow to a whole new level …

from soiree productions in utah …

This bride and groom decided to celebrate their wedding in Park City, Utah. Both are from San Francisco but the bride grew up skiing in Deer Valley while the groom grew up snowboarding in Tahoe. She a skier and he a snowboarder ~ they embarked on a perfectly themed winter celebration with a customized logo. The guests escort cards resembled lift tickets; widget and all!

The bride and groom wanted to be sure to share the fresh snow with their guests. Everyone either skied or snowboarded throughout the weekend. Some guests went snowshoeing and others toured the area on a horse and sleigh. The week leading up to the wedding brought lots of fresh snow then magically the sun shined making it easy to travel. It was important to the bride and groom to share the place they call home when they can sneak away from the busy life-style they lead in San Francisco.

Married under a chuppah, their marriage was blessed in front of 280 of their closest friends who traveled to this snowy destination.

The evening was elegant with a four-course dinner and live music. The ballroom was decorated in navy blue and copper accents. The beautiful floral decor from StellaPosy kept things chic and simple; a lounge lamp surrounded by white and yellow parrot tulips, peonies, and blue hydrangea. A few aspen logs and lots of candle light topped off the tables to ensure the “rustic elegance”.

This ski inspired celebration captured the bride and groom’s love for each other, Park City, and winter.
