I may have squealed like a little girl when I first laid eyes on this ranch wedding by Half Orange Photography.  OK, there may have been a few shrieks of glee.  But can you blame me?  The flowers!  The lace details!  I’m just crazy about the whole soiree! Scrolling through the gallery is like floating on a little cloud of rustic wedding perfection.  You really won’t want to miss a single inspiring detail so head over there right now!

From the Bride… When Rene and I got engaged, we soon found that we had two very different opinions of the perfect wedding. I wanted something small, personal, and sweet, while he wanted a huge party. We met somewhere in the middle and our wedding turned out to be a perfect combination of the two. We both love the Texas Hill Country and knew we couldn’t get married anywhere else. Vista West Ranch in Dripping Springs was the perfect fit for us: gorgeous views, rustic surroundings and tons of tiny details. They have an outdoor ceremony site overlooking miles of Hill Country, a stunning reception venue, a biergarten with fire pits for socializing and adorable lodges for guests to stay the night. We were sold.

Rene and I agreed that we did not want the day to feel formal or stuffy, so we worked to make it rustic and beautiful with tons of personal touches. To make it comfortable and personable, I wanted to decorate with antiques, family heirlooms and quirky treasures that were all in some way special to us and our families. My mother was the workhorse of our collecting and began to sift through (what felt like) every antique shop in Texas, collecting old lace, tablecloths, doilies, jars, doorknobs, lanterns, books and anything she could get her hands on. I wanted the tables to all look different but be completely covered in old, beautiful things. I probably took on too many projects for the wedding, but I wanted every single detail to be done by hand. I made the table numbers and page parcels out of old discolored book pages, the burlap signs, the place cards, the thank-you notes, menu displays and more. With help from a few friends and family, we were able to set up everything the day before so that it was exactly how we envisioned it. It was so much fun!

The wedding day was December 30, and we were expecting cold drizzly weather for an outdoor ceremony with no contingency plan. Last minute, we arranged for outdoor heaters to be set up and put together a table piled with antique quilts and warm wassail for guests to grab on their way in. We had the fire pits lit, ready to warm our guests with some hot chocolate and s’mores. As luck would have it, December 30 came and we laughed at how blessed we were to have 75 degree weather with the most gorgeous light we had ever seen. It was perfect. The ceremony was beautiful and heartfelt, and the reception was the most fun celebration, thanks to our amazing band who fed off of the party. Everything went seamlessly and we enjoyed every second of day. After we left the reception, we wanted our friends to continue the celebration. We rented out the Vista West Ranch lodging and loaded the refrigerators with food, alcohol and goodies so they could continue the party late into the night (how many venues allow you to do that?). Later we found out that the caterer and bartender even brought over all leftover food and alcohol to the lodges to be finished off by our friends! At the end of the day we were so blessed to have exactly what we both wanted, to make it out of wedding planning alive, and to finally be married! If I could give any advice to future brides, it would be to take a deep breath and roll with the punches. A wedding is not worth bickering with loved ones or losing sleep over. Although it doesn’t feel like it, everything eventually falls into place. You are fortunate enough to have found your better half, and no matter what kind of flowers or silverware you have, at the end of the night you will be married!

From Korie Lynn of Korie Lynn PhotographyFor Lauren’s bridal session, we ventured into downtown Victoria, Texas, to highlight the area since she lives there. Wouldn’t you know, there was a gorgeously lit, antique furniture-stocked wine bar just calling our names for her bridals! The 77901 Wine & Spirits Bar couldn’t have been a more perfect setting, plus we had the place to ourselves! They didn’t open for business until later in the evening, so they let us have free run of the place. Win-win! The entire storefront was composed of floor-to-ceiling windows, just flooding the place with yummy light! And then add all that killer furniture to work with aaaaand a lovely bride! Heaven.

Lauren was ready for the vintage setting the wine bar provided, and added her own flair to the shoot: lace gloves, layered pearls, a cute compact mirror and red lipstick. Then there was her custom-altered Pronovias gown. The gown was a mermaid shape with a sheer lace overlay that was originally permanently attached. However, Lauren had it altered so she could wear the same gown two different ways for her bridals and the wedding day! The first way is with the sheer overlay, and the second way (for the reception) was having the overlay removed. She had some crystal trim beading added to the overlay where it attaches to the gown under the right bust line. The crystal added a finishing touch and a little more sparkle to the gown. Such a clever way to work your wedding dress!

Our second location for her bridals was the Raisin L Ranch, where Lauren would be getting married. Since she was getting married out at the ranch, we wanted to go there for sentimental value alone.

From the Bride… Jeison and I met through mutual friends in college. We got to know each other while working in the same building. Every time Jeison would come into the building while I was working, he would throw acorns at me — I would never know where they were coming from. When he finally asked me out, he had carved out an acorn and wrote “Homecoming?” inside with letters cut out from a magazine.

Jeison is from Guatemala and is an aspiring doctor. He is currently working in the E.R. as a scribe and working on getting into medical school. I am from Castroville, Texas, and I am currently a second grade teacher. We both attend church and love being outdoors when the weather is not too hot or cold.

For our wedding, first of all we knew we wanted God to be glorified throughout the entire event. As far as the look and feel of the wedding, I think it went exactly how we imagined. We were going for a vintage, country feel with plenty of girly touches from me. :) It was really important to incorporate family traditions as well.

We couldn’t sign off without sharing the amazing video by Elite Video Productions!

From the Bride… Jeff and I wanted our wedding to reflect us and to be something unique and fun for all of our friends and family. Shortly after we got engaged, we decided to choose Kerrville, Texas, for our wedding destination because this hill country town means so much to us. My family has a ranch house in Kerrville, and for the past five years we have been visiting together with our best friends. Living and working full-time in Houston, we knew it would be a challenge planning our wedding out of town, but luckily we found our brilliant event designer, Tricia Hamil, to take our vision and bring it to life to create our dream wedding day. In looking for a reception venue in Kerrville, we knew we wanted something tented, outdoors and in an open area under the stars. My dad and step-mom were married at Riverhill Country Club in 2007, and as soon as we walked onto the property we knew this was where we had to have our reception too. I told Tricia the look we were going for was hill country-chic, and I have always loved vintage style and knew we had to incorporate that into our big day too. Tricia worked with me on every detail, including picking our exquisite flowers, farmhouse wooden tables and the menu that reflected us and our favorite foods: sushi and fried pickles! She pulled incredible vintage furniture and small detailed pieces together to create a beautiful cocktail hour complete with a Texas country band and created an amazingly chic and gorgeous space in our clear tent for the reception.

Our ceremony was a traditional Catholic mass at the lovely Notre Dame Catholic Church located on historic Main Street in Kerrville. This church was built in the early 1900s, and the wooden beams and stained-glass windows created a perfect setting for our ceremony. We were also very blessed to find Traci and Kellie with Anne Marie Photography and Sam and Lisa Blanco with Elite Cinematic Productions who both captured our day so well! Having all of our family and friends together in one room to celebrate with us was an unbelievable feeling I can’t even describe. Everyone celebrated and danced into the late hours of the night, and Jeff and I couldn’t have been happier with how perfectly blissful our day was.

From the Bride-to-Be… I had given up on dating. I was tired of the first date awkwardness, the second date break-up conversation even though you weren’t actually in a relationship. I had enjoyed getting to know these guys, but since Mr. Right had not made an appearance, I was ready for a break. I got a call from one of my mom’s closest friends that she wanted to give my number to a “very nice young man.” I told her I was not interested, but she convinced me to give it one last try. A few weeks later, I walked into Buzz Brews to meet this “very nice young man” for coffee… Coffee, dinner and three-and-a-half hours later, everything had changed.  For the first time, I did not want the date to end. I was nervous that he wouldn’t call again, and he was so different from anyone I had ever met. He is such a gentleman and was intentional from the very beginning. From that moment on, we continued to date and by month two, we both knew that we were in love. Shortly after that he told me that he wanted to marry me, and I told him that I could not imagine it any other way. Eight months later we were engaged. We could not be more excited about our June wedding, but more importantly, getting to spend the rest of our lives together. We are thankful to God for His faithfulness and blessings, and for good ole’ matchmaking!

Vista West Ranch Wedding by Haydon Photography

This ranch wedding by Haydon Photography is meaningful and magical to the max.  The amount of thought and love that this adorable couple put into each and every detail is astounding.  I don’t know if I can pick a favorite, can you?  It has to either be the cotton that they incorporated into all the floral arrangements (since it’s the state crop of Mississippi where they met) or the framed quote by Ray LaMontagne that guests signed.  Add in the fact that these guys obviously know how to get down and you have one fabulous barn bash!  See it all in the full gallery!

From the Bride… Mike and I met years ago at a college basketball game while attending the University of Mississippi, and sparks flew. This is why our officiant, Carolina Trevino, made our ceremony all about being a team and working together. The overall theme for the wedding was youthful and classic southern charm. We used our first dance song, “You are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne, to turn into our guestbook: a barn wood frame around a quote from the lyrics that people signed. We now have it hanging in our home. Hanging over the loft were our names on old tins that had been collected by my mom. As a fun craft for the guests, I designed a “Wedding Edition” Mad Lib for everyone to fill out, which was sitting at their place setting.

There were two specific details that were the most meaningful to us. First that our base for the floral concept was raw cotton, which is the state crop of Mississippi, where we met. Secondly, part of my mother’s wedding dress was wrapped around my bouquet with a handkerchief that was my father’s mothers, and pinned on them was a diamond pendant that is my mother’s mom’s. My mom and dad found the amazing western cutout that everyone had so much fun with! We did a southern barbecue for dinner, complete with a mashed potato bar! At the desert table, we played off the theme of rustic elegance. All of the silver has been in our family forever, and my dad hand-carved the wood stumps that held the dessert signs that I made. There were peel and stick mustaches for everyone to wear, to complement the “Stache some candy for later” and “Candy Stache” bags and sign.

What I remember most about the wedding was standing at the altar and being lost in time as Mike and I said our vows. It was the absolutely the best feeling in the world. We decided to do our first look before the wedding, and we are so glad we did! We were both so taken aback by everything that there were many happy tears from us both! My amazing bridesmaids surprised Mike and me with a rap to the tune of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air that they made up the morning of the wedding about how we met and our story. Their rap had us laughing so hard it brought us to tears! Vista West is one of the most amazing venues we have ever seen, from the view and the ceremony site to the amazing lighting and chandeliers inside the barn. We are so lucky to have been able to share this special day with all of our friends and family.

From the Bride… Chris and I met and fell in love at work in New York City, where we live. He is from Chicago and I am from both Michigan and Texas (most recently Texas). We knew that we wanted to have an awesome party that was fun for everyone, not just us. We wanted it to be a true celebration. When it came to figuring out a date, I considered spring because it’s my favorite time of year, but my brother, who is in the Army, was potentially going to get shipped out in February, and I definitely wanted him to be there for the wedding. We decided that since we throw a New Years Eve party every year, we should continue that tradition and really have the best blow-out New Years party our friends and family have ever seen. I really think we succeeded.

Chris and I are both weekly church goers and we were fortunate enough to be able to fly our priest from our church in New York down to Austin to marry us. We had a traditional Catholic mass and then moved to the Driskill for the reception, where we rang in the new year, complete with a balloon drop at midnight. Being the crafter that I’ve always been, I wanted to put me touch on EVERYTHING, and since it was New Year’s Eve, I wanted it all to be very elegant, very classic and very sparkly! I chose very traditional New Year’s colors — black, white and gold — and tried to infuse them everywhere. My bridesmaids picked their own black dresses and shoes. I wanted them to wear something they were comfortable in and would wear again. My mom made beautiful necklaces for each of the girls (as well as mine), and we gave the guys all their own unique socks.

The reception space was filled with details, details, details.  Our cake was one of my favorite pieces — we used my parents wedding knife to cut it, which was really special, and it was flanked by pictures of our parents and grandparents in homage to our families. Since we live in New York, we wanted to find a way to include that part of our life, which we did with the cake. It had a cityscape on it and was topped with a “crystal ball” to compliment our New Year’s theme. We had hats everywhere, and the escort cards were noise makers so everyone was prepared for midnight. We also included different neighborhoods of New York on the tables as the back drop of our table numbers. The table numbers where our New York friends sat had maps of the part of the city they were from. Our place card holders were champagne corks from bottles all of our friends and family drank during the course of our engagement. Our napkins were black bow ties that were all tied by my grandma and maid of honor. I made banners for the welcome table, the backs of our chairs (Mr. & Mrs.) and the balcony (Happy New Year) — I think I was most proud of these. Finally, our flowers were just perfect. We were able to incorporate a small pop of red with cranberries and the arrangement on the sweetheart table had antlers in it (from a deer my dad hunted) to add a rustic, wintery feel and a uniqueness to our table. We opted to use Jenga games as our guest book so when we have game nights at home we can see the messages of love our friends and family left us on our wedding day. What a great way to remember it all! If our wedding was any indication of the way our life together will progress, we will have a ton of laughs, always have a smile on our faces and always be supported and encouraged by our family and friends. I’ve never felt as much love as I did on New Year’s Eve 2011. We may just have to throw an anniversary party every year and do it over again and again!

Lightning C Ranch Wedding by McGowan Images

From Chelsea of McGowan ImagesHannah and Jordan were married at Lightning C Ranch in Granbury, Texas on February 25th, 2012. They originally planned their wedding for mid-April, but when Hannah’s father (a world-renowned sculptor) was commissioned for a piece to be unveiled at the Boston Marathon, they knew they’d have to move their whole wedding up.

The extra rush didn’t mean that any detail was overlooked — every single thing about this wedding was handcrafted with love. Special care was given to make sure everything felt right at home on the Lightning C Ranch, and the feeling of heirloom quality ran throughout the entire day. Lightning C Ranch is the private home of a family friend of the bride, and it was completely taken over in preparation for this wedding. The details of the property alone are worth an entire blog post! When you add to that the gorgeous florals provided by Town & Country and lots of heirloom crockery and glassware, this wedding became completely personal and unique.

From a photographic standpoint, this wedding was a dream. Hannah and Jordan are so very much in love and had so much help pulling off this intricate event. Whenever they were in each others’ presence, they just glowed. Aside from the beautiful weather and the stunning details, the LOVE is what really made this wedding a joy to photograph.

Oh, and we’re not done yet.  We have a breathtaking film by Altared Wedding Productions to send you off into the weekend… Enjoy!

From the Bride… The feeling of the day was relaxed elegance and was largely inspired by our venue, a Mediterranean-style theater nestled in the Texas hill country. Mediterranean-inspired colors, such as teal, coral, copper and moss, made appearances throughout the night. The most important thing to us was to make sure our guests had a great time — we wanted to make them all feel like one big family and allow them to experience the day with all their senses. One way we accomplished our goal was by making sure the food was delicious and abundant. We decided on family-style service – it helped spark conversation at the table and ensured people got to pile on their favorites. Later on in the evening, we helped them soak up the spirits consumed with a late night snack of every Southern couple’s favorite: chicken and waffles.

The décor was an eclectic mix of all kinds of containers and greenery, from succulents to tulips, that allowed us to both honor our Texas hill country surroundings and give a nod to my Dutch heritage. Vines and ivy surrounding the venue were an unexpected yet welcome surprise given the dry Austin summer. To get all guests involved in the bouquet and garter toss, we opened up the floor to everyone, not just the singles. And to entice participation, we slipped $100 into each ensuring some good healthy competition! We splurged on getting custom invitations made, but then used those as inspiration for other paper items that we did ourselves. We printed the programs on heavy card stock in colors matching the theme, then tied it all together with twine. Our florist spray painted small clay pots a warm copper color and filled them with succulents, which acted as both escort cards and giveaways. We found a Mediterranean-inspired pattern to border each name on the escort card, then printed those on two-sided business cards glued to kebab sticks. My mother made the veil using silk tulle and the maid of honor beaded the entire hem on both sides to ensure it glittered no matter how it fell.

One of my most memorable moments was actually a fantastic recommendation by our wedding planner to have a private dinner and spend some quality time together. We enjoyed our dinner on a secluded balcony watching the sun set over Texas hill country while our guests enjoyed cocktail hour. It eliminated our fear of having to eat while all our guests watched and ensured we got to actually eat!

Georgetown, Texas Wedding from Krystle Akin Photography

Here at SMP, we have a list a mile long of different wedding styles we LOVE. Today we are definitely going to have to add Sweet Girly Romance to that list, because this Texas soiree has Sweet Girly Romance pouring out of every image from Krystle Akin Photography. Sweet Girly Romance in the broach bouquet, Sweet Girly Romance in the blushing bride, Sweet Girly Romance in the red, pink and purple decor. And Sweet Girly Romance in the gallery!

Chris and I went to high school together but we didn’t really get to know each other until we worked together at Inks Lake State Park. While in college, we would spend our summers back home in Burnet, TX working at the park store. After work we would go swimming, kayaking, and fishing and quickly fell in love. After five years together, Chris proposed. I was totally exhausted after a long day at work when Chris told me he had a surprise for me. Anyone that knows me knows that I LOVE Dr. Pepper so when he said he had a surprise I immediately thought he had got me one. “It’s a big surprise,” he said. So, naturally, I was thinking, “Yes! Route 44 Dr. Pepper from Sonic!” He went into the bedroom to get the “surprise,” got on one knee, and gave me the best surprise of my life!!! Way better than a Dr. Pepper.

We chose Heritage Oaks Clubhouse because of the gorgeous wood floors and windows looking out onto the lovely pond behind the building. With a wedding in December, there is no predicting the weather so we wanted to make sure we had a big enough facility to accommodate everyone inside.

I guess the theme for the wedding was “romantic vintage bling”. I have always loved vintage jewelry and when I saw a brooch bouquet I fell in LOVE! After that, everything kind of snowballed into this rhinestone wonderland. My dress was lace with a sash that had rhinestones, the bride’s cake was done with rhinestones and some antique brooches, and I also incorporated the brooches with the bridesmaid bouquets. I’ve always found reds and purples romantic and great for a December wedding so I knew I wanted them to be my wedding colors. Everything really came together better than I could have hoped! It was the best day of my life and it couldn’t have been more perfect!

From Matthew of Matthew Johnson StudiosChristina Lewis of Wedding Warriors in Wimberley, Texas, did the styling and design. Christina specializes in planning green weddings and events, which was a perfect fit for Johnny and Siobhan and their backyard wedding. Both Johnny and Siobhan are foodies who work in the bar and restaurant industry, so serving great food and drinks was important to them. Johnny’s Austin restaurant Black Star Co-op is known for its craft beers, which were served at both the pre-ceremony cocktail hour and the reception. Unique vintage touches like an old typewriter were a perfect fit for the bride, who is a writer. Even with a full moon, the field where the dinner and reception took place needed substantial lighting to brighten the seating. Strung lights lit the property, while a fire pit warmed guests as the fall evening cooled off. The warm lighting matched the fall color scheme and floral designs perfectly.

From Allison of Allison Davis PhotographyAbbie and Dick were married in November at Prestonwood Baptist Church at the Faith Chapel. Abbie had such a beautiful rustic chic wedding style, and it was brought to life by Angie at Posh Floral Designs and Rent My Dust. Their wedding day was so fun and relaxing — the girls all got ready at a beautiful home in Frisco, and then we all traveled to Plano for Abbie and Dick to do a first look and all of their portraits at the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. They chose to do a first look because the sun sets so early in the winter, and it was the only way they could have beautiful bride and groom portraits with sunlight. Their wedding ceremony was beautiful and full of sweet sentiments. Their wedding reception was full of hugs and great moments of celebration between them and their friends and family. It was a beautiful celebration to kick off their marriage!

From the Bride… Kyle and I met in the summer of 2009 at the Glass House pool. We became great friends that summer, which blossomed into a beautiful romance. From day one, he made me feel like a princess. I know it’s cliche, but he really does. I’d pretend to love watching the Browns play football at Frankie’s, while he’d try my clumpy pancakes and watch movies like “When in Rome.” New Year’s Eve 2010 marked our official anniversary as a couple. We danced together and rang in the new year, just us, to a song we hold dear to our hearts. The following summer, I traveled across the world to India, which tested both our commitment to one another and strength.

Oddly enough, we grew up just minutes away. I suppose we were just waiting for our paths to cross, and we’re so excited that they did!

Rock Lake Ranch Wedding by Half Orange Photography

There are oh-so many elements that I absolutely adore about this ranch wedding by Half Orange Photography.  The first being the bride’s awesome description of her concept: Cowgirl chic or Studio 54 meets the Hill Country.  Totally amazing, right?  And their rustic glam soiree definitely fit the bill.  I also love that she described her wedding as being a big deal but not the biggest day of her life instead choosing to focus on the real adventure: the incredible marriage that comes after!  Big deal or not, the day was absolutely breathtaking!!!  See it all in the full gallery!

From the Bride… I felt my vision began with the concept that this wedding was a big deal, but not the biggest day of my life. Each day after the wedding was more important than the day before, in that growing together was the whole reason we decided to get married! It was almost like I envisioned this wedding as a send off party. We both were leaving our individual lives and individual needs to share needs, concerns, struggles, debt, etc. with each other. In other words, life was no longer going to revolve around our own needs, so we were gonna need one fabulous night with friends, family and dancing because things were gonna get craaaaaa-zzzy after that wedding! When trying to explain the style vision, I kept going back to Cowgirl Barbie and Cowboy Ken (people actually told us that’s what we reminded them of at the wedding — I loved it!!) Now this was not a hayride and BBQ shin-dig though — think Studio 54 in it’s glory days (minus heavy drug usage) meets the Hill Country … confused yet? Cowgirl chic is all I can say to sum it up. Designer wedding dress with a pair of Luchesse boots. I wore my grandmother’s vintage jewelry, and my 15-year-old stepdaughter was my hairstylist. Chandeliers and lace-covered hay bales. Patron and jalapeño cheddar grits. It was so us!

Three things we felt strongly all tied into our relationship with God. Metallics made me think of our own life events where God had purified us through fire, as metals are. Strong, beautiful and unique metallic colors were centered in every part of the wedding. Second, the lights in the bridesmaid lanterns where meant to represent following God’s light (1 John 1:5). Third was the wedding date (9/10/11). A year before, Travis had felt a strong presence from God while driving on a business trip. At that time, his truck odometer hit 111,111 miles while his clock hit 11:11 a.m. Feeling shocked, he pulled over into a nearby church parking lot, and on the front doors of the church, huge signs said CHANGE. That moment opened his eyes and heart up to God’s desire for Travis to seek him more consistently. Ever since we have been intrigued by number patterns. This probably makes us sound like crazy, blue-haired ladies, but we have fun with it and were thrilled to get married on 9/10/11.

The ceremony was short and sweet and to the point. No need to go into great detail. Travis and I knew what our commitment was to each and to God long before that day. The reception was a blur. Without the photography, I think I would have cried, feeling like the night was moving faster than I was able to absorb. Since most of my family is from the west coast, we were going to need some professional help teaching them to two-step along to the Southern Roots Band. The world famous Aggie Wranglers came and showed us how it was done to kick the night off! Great steaks, top-shelf whiskey and nightfall propelled the dance lesson into full party mode. The most profound moment of that night was the moment shortly after our first dance. I was holding hands with my wonderful husband and we looked out into a sea of our favorite people in the world, all in one room. And they were glowing! It took my breath away. I wish I could have taken that moment and captured it. A tip to the wise: under no circumstances should you fail to hire a wedding planner. Susan Keough was the secret ingredient to a stress-less event. In the words of Ferris Bueller, “It is soo choice.”

From Shawna of Event Styling by Shawna MarieInspired by the Irish countryside and the important wedding traditions that are part of the Irish heritage, this modern design is focused on a bold kelly green color that contrasts against layers of pinks and gold tones. The historic McKinney Flour Mill’s brick walls and loft setting created a backdrop that lent itself to the perfect pub-style celebration. Many Irish influences were incorporated throughout the design in a thoughtful manner. Crochet elements are found in the decor, flower girl’s dress and on the wedding gown from Patsy’s Bridal. An eclectic mix of natural greenery and florals, including ranunculus and roses were created by Bows + Arrows, lending softness to the space. The fragrant florals paired perfectly with the light linens and glitzy gold chargers. A sprig of rosemary on the groom’s boutonniere signifies the Irish heritage of remembering loved ones. Colorful florals were added to the bride’s hair braid to complete the natural feeling. Hemstitch linen and hankies from Ireland along with a Celtic wedding band also add that special touch of tradition.

The golden fondant cake by Sweet Art Bakery was wrapped in a delicate chiffon and lace sash by Emily Riggs Bridal. This added such a beautiful and soft statement and connected all of the romantic elements together. A delicious menu selection paired with a lively bar setting creates an easy atmosphere to celebrate time with family and friends. Irish beers and spirits are the perfect way to toast to the bride and groom. Decor elements are the key when creating any environment. A mix of metal and wood furniture pieces provided by Period Charm Rentals connected the entire scheme. Colorful green bottles mixed with gold glitter and textured pillows gave richness to the space. The collection of Irish books were a lovely decor element that fit nicely with the inspiration. The solid and striped kelly green color is a major element carried throughout the design and stands out against the dark brick of the Flour Mill perfectly. The personalized tea cups can be used as a gift for guests, relaxing with Irish breakfast tea the next morning. Luxury stationery, paper goods and calligraphy by the Left Handed Calligrapher connected the color in a the utmost sophisticated way. Katie Cassidy Photography was able to bring the shoot to life by highlighting the bold kelly green with the soft pinks and shimmery gold. Capturing the details was important to showcase the unique traditions laced throughout Irish culture.

From the Bride… Phil and I met our freshman year at Trinity University in San Antonio. I thought it wasn’t likely that I’d find “the one” at a school of only 2,500 students, but fate had other ideas. As luck would have it, we moved in to opposite ends of the same dorm room floor. He said “Hi, I’m Phil Avocato.” We made a lot of guacamole jokes, and somewhere along the way, we fell in love.

It was very important to Phil that we get married in a church. Unfortunately, at least in our part of Texas, a lot of the Catholic church options are beautiful, but HUGE. We looked at each other and thought, “Do we know enough people to fill a space like this? And, maybe more importantly than that, do we WANT to?” We have the most amazing friends and family, and we wanted our day to feel like a celebration of them too. Most of all, we didn’t want to look out at our ceremony and see a bunch of strangers looking back at us. When we found Queen of Angels Chapel, everything just felt perfect. Phil and I have a simple kind of love — we’re about holding hands, singing songs, Shiner beer and good times with friends. I couldn’t imagine incorporating anything into our wedding that felt super-formal. We wanted our wedding to feel relaxed, laid-back, easy and overwhelmingly happy.

Staying true to our lack of formality, we never did establish a legitimate color palette (I often described ours to our vendors as “moss and rocks”). We had a macaroni and cheese bar at the reception. Our cake toppers were a pair of dancing bears. Instead, we focused on adding personal elements that meant a lot to us — the base of the floral arrangements were peppered with loose cotton blooms to honor my grandfather, who farmed cotton in California for 25 years. Phil decorated a paned window with tickets, programs, photos, and post-its from four years of our dates. We ditched “Ave Maria” and “Canon in D” for a four-piece bluegrass band and “I’ll Fly Away.” In the end, we wound up with a perfect day that felt just like us. We had hot chocolate at midnight (and lots of stronger drinks along the way), tables full of family photos, and a cold but sunny February day we won’t soon forget.

The inspiration for this shoot came from the gorgeous Sea Glass Estate of Crystal Beach, Texas. The area was known for its beautiful vacation homes and was a weekend hangout for many Southeast Texas residents. In September 2008, Hurricane Ike hit the coast and caused catastrophic damage to the community. Many thought that Crystal Beach would never recover, but after three years of restoration, the area is booming again. It was the perfect setting for our beach-inspired wedding. Our color scheme of white with hints of yellow and blue blended seamlessly against the beach. During the design process (lead by Stephanie Do of La Belle Fleur Designs and Events and Glenda Little of Dressy Designs), we knew that we really wanted to be hands-on, and we created many of the pieces ourselves. After a trip to local merchants at the beach, we acquired a large collection of various seashells for our DIY projects. Taking cues from the name of the venue, sea glass was incorporated throughout the shoot — from the beautiful sea glass jewelry that Leigh Ann Smithy-Brittain of Ooh-La-Leigh’s hand-made to the unique wedding cake that Dawneen of Artistic Confections created. Allen Ayres and Marius Lardizabal of BellaFotografica captured the beautiful images of the day.

Wedding programs printed with a watercolor image of the Sea Glass Estate were displayed on the greeting table. Even with the strong winds that day, we were able to set up a chiffon-draped canopy that swayed gracefully with the wind. For our shoot, we chose two knee length diamond white dresses for our bridesmaids. They coordinated perfectly with the Maggie Sottero bridal gown that Suki’s Bridal of Orange, Texas provided. Erica Strazz of Salon Status provided the makeup for our ladies, and Katie Killebrew of Salon Elle was our hair stylist. The bride and bridesmaids held bouquets that were accented with seashells.

No wedding is complete without delicious food and wedding cake — we prepared bountiful dishes of local seafood from the area. The colors of the blue crab and shrimp against the sandy beach were mesmerizing. The table served as a foundation for Artistic Confections’ wedding cake that was decked with “sea glass.” Jars of white pearlized candies were displayed, in addition to seashell-shaped chocolate candies. We served banana pudding inside the cavity of some beautiful natural shells that we acquired and they were irresistible. Vanilla cupcakes topped off with white chocolate sand dollar were also displayed on our sweet bar. When dusk was approaching, our bride wore a gown that made a statement on its own with its contemporary ruffles and design. What bride wouldn’t enjoy playing dress-up on her wedding day? To end the evening, we created “donut shooters” as a late night snack for the guests. Served in shot glasses with cold milk, this snack is a fun and easy-to-prepare addition to any wedding. The donuts were held together by custom-made “Sweet Dreams” flags that invited the guests to grab one before they headed out for the night. The snack tray was created by using a framed mirror that was covered by the shells that we had collected from the local merchants. This wedding was so much fun to design and execute for all of the involved wedding artists. We hope that it will inspire any bride who is planning a seaside nuptial.

From Allison of Allison Davis PhotographyHannah and Sam were married at the end of January at the lovely Woodcreek Church in Richardson followed by a fabulous wedding reception at the Swingin’ D Ranch in Parker, Texas. The couple chose to do a first look before the wedding, and it was a sweet and special moment for them in rejoice in one another and to marvel in how fabulous they both looked. We photographed their couples portraits in the beautiful afternoon winter light and then grabbed their bridal party to finish portraits around the church. Their wedding ceremony was a sweet time of commitment, and they finished the service with a time of prayer with their closest family and friends. After the service, I ran over to photograph all of the beautiful and fun wedding reception details Hannah and Sam planned for their reception at the Swingin’ D Ranch. Upon arrival, they had a coffee bar and popcorn bar for their guests to enjoy until they opened the reception space. Inside the reception space, they had beautiful, vibrant, rustic details on the tables with wood crates and jars of beautiful floral arrangements. They had a fabulous cupcake table with a variety of unique flavors as the bride’s cake, and then they had a custom-made Rice Krispy groom’s cake that was crafted by the groom’s sister. The reception was a blast and had a variety of music to keep the party going.

From the Bride… Kin and I met towards the end of college on an intramural football team, squished together in a backseat on the way to practice. I thought he was aloof. After the season was over, we kept running into each other through mutual acquaintances and became good friends. We waited several months before we started dating, since I was graduating and unsure of where I would wind up. I was blessed to find a job in Austin, and it wasn’t long before I knew he was the one I wanted. We dated five great years before he proposed. We wanted a place and ceremony that would reflect us and our faith, something simple and elegant. Our families were coming in from out of town, so having the ceremony and reception in one location was a must. My taste is more traditional, rustic and vintage, so the place needed to have those qualities. I had seen the Inn at Wild Rose Hall from a wedding shoot my friend had done, and it was one of the two venues we checked out. We loved how laid-back, cozy and intimate it felt, with a beautiful sprawling garden and mini goats and donkeys. They had us at “bahh.”

Since it was a winter wedding, I opted for a warm, light and pretty color palette of champagne pink, chocolate brown and light matte gold with scarlet accents. I envisioned the soft glamour of candlelight, vintage bottles and milk glass, and pretty sweeping florals. The first thing to do was to hire Forever Photography, since their gorgeous work is exactly how I wanted my wedding remembered. Then we found Kristi Treadwell of Joyful Details, our wonderful day-of-planner who steered us in the right direction and did a wonderful job coordinating our wedding day. We wanted a luxurious dinner for our guests, and Royal Fig Catering did it all right. We still get comments on how good our family-style dinner was! When I asked them about a hot chocolate bar, not only did they offer it, they asked me what kinds of chocolate I wanted. Bliss! Sweet Treets Bakery made our delectable three-tiered cake, topped with a cute cake topper from Etsy, and our wedding favors were initial cookies from Kin’s favorite bakery, Quack’s. For our vintage glass bottles and vases, I also looked to Etsy. My dress was a beautiful Wtoo gown with layers of netting, a lace bodice and gathered straps — all very vintage. My veil was also from Etsy, and I wore my grandmother’s necklace since they could not attend. My bridesmaids were in beautiful soft pink chiffon Amsale dresses.

The wedding day was so happy. Even though we had to move the ceremony to the patio (it had rained the day before), the day was gorgeous and cool, and I was so impressed with how well everything came together — I definitely hired the right people! I got to focus on getting ready with my bridesmaids, and everything was perfect when I came out to walk down the aisle. I loved seeing so many of my friends as we walked down to the altar, and Kin and I were both overcome as we said our vows. I remember our pastor accidentally remarking “This is so sweet” as we hugged our families. Some of my favorite details of the day were the initial wreaths our family and friends helped us make, spending a few quiet hours with my girls before the wedding, the look on Kin’s face during our first-glance photos, and even being overwhelmed by the group photo of family friends from his small town! It was perfect for us, and I cherished every moment.

From Amelia of Amelia Tarbet PhotographyThis was the first wedding at the new W Hotel in Austin, and it had a refreshingly modern style. The “gears” theme in their cake, lighting, rings, etc. came from Chris’s passion for cycling. The couple had their portraits done at the old Austin Power Plant. The bride, who had great, eclectic style, wore orchids in her super-short, 1920s-style hair and paired her dress with a great pearl necklace. She looked totally stylish and very original.
