Dallas Petroleum Club Wedding by Jess Barfield Photography

The word “swoon” comes to mind the second I see the images from Jess Barfield Photography of this bride’s radiant smile and her to.die.for custom wedding dress. Not to mention the amazing florals by the oh so lovely Stems of Dallas and the thoughtful details throughout this stunning day.  The bride and groom wanted their guests to leave the reception thinking, “that felt like Kara and Douglas,” and they achieved just that in an incredibly genuine and romantic way. This wedding is everything a little girl could dream for, complete with glamour, grace and a horse-drawn carriage to end the elegant evening. See the full gallery here.

From the Bride… Yes, I was completely that girl who dreamed about my wedding from a young age and studied the magazines and blogs long before I met my Prince Charming. I really didn’t have a perfect vision when we got engaged; the most important thing was that people left the wedding saying “that felt like Kara and Douglas.” Bit by bit, everything came together and those ideas turned to reality. The reception location was in an old Dallas high-rise with a beautiful view of the downtown lights. Inside, it was filled with rich dark wood and high ceilings with chandeliers. I always wanted the wedding to be inviting and never “stuffy.” The centerpieces were an eclectic mix of antique silver trays and decanters with beautiful spring flowers.

It was really great to be able to work closely with all of my vendors (floral, invitations, photography, etc.) to have my vision fully come to life.  My dress was one of my favorite pieces of the wedding. I was blessed to be able to work with some of the most talented and wonderful people through the planning process. The sorority sister of my maid of honor is an incredibly talented seamstress and designer. I was able to work with her to have a dress made just for me, as well as “going away dress” that was equally as wonderful. Jessy even made silk flowers for my cake to match the ones on my dress. While the cake was a beautiful white cake somewhat resembling my wedding dress, we went with Douglas’ favorite -mini red velvet whoopee pies for his groom’s “cake.” My shoes were a gift from my mother-in-law and were my something blue. Part of my gift to my bridesmaids were bracelets that my mom and I made from vintage brooches. All of the little details came together perfectly. People were on the dance floor all night.  We were surrounded by family and friends we love so much, and it was a wonderful night we will never forget.

Vista West Ranch Wedding by Nicole Chatham Photography

Next time you think of rustic or shabby chic, this sweet little Texas number by Nicole Chatham Photography should be the first fête to pop in your head. Because loves, it’s the definition of rustic chic. From the perfectly placed florals by Petal Pushers to the gorgeous barn setting that is the Vista West Ranch to the gorgeous tablescape that has us all ready to drop everything and go antiquing – it’s anything and everything we love so much about these parties, and it’s all sitting pretty right here.

From the Bride… Lance and I met at the rodeo and have been dance partners ever since — it’s our favorite thing to do, so when we got engaged we knew we wanted to incorporate that feeling with a rustic, vintage, shabby-chic wedding. We also knew we wanted to have an outdoor ceremony with natural light, beautiful trees and pretty green grass, then move inside for the reception and celebration.  Much to my surprise, I found Vista West Ranch!  It had everything we could have imagined and envisioned.  Beautiful grounds with a fun old car and truck, a simply stunning outside altar, a big rustic barn for the reception and fun bunkhouses for lodging. This venue is family-owned and operated, and they truly make you feel as though you’re a part of the family.  And, on top of that, other members of the family run Petal Pushers and Served Bartending.

After meeting with the venue owner, she mentioned Petal Pushers — WOW is all I can say. Not only are they florists, but they also rent centerpieces, vintage china, wood tables and more! Before I found them, I thought I would be living in thrift stores looking for knick-knacks to get my vintage look, my budget would be all over the place spending on these items and I would have a house full of this stuff that my soon-to-be husband might not be too happy about. Although they had everything I was looking for, I still wanted to add and make special pieces that made it more personal. We wanted our guests to walk in and think, this is so Kristen and Lance, and we accomplished that!  We were able to incorporate outside banners, a vintage mailbox, burlap runners, a unique guest book and mason jars to name just a few.

Now, for the groom’s “cake” — the biggest hit! My husband has always been silly in throwing his name into songs and inserting it wherever he can, laughing as I shake my head. He is always saying to me, “You’re just mad because your name has two syllables and doesn’t fit.” All in all, he’s pretty much in love with his name, so what better way to share this silliness with our guests than to have Lance Products included. We shared Lance mini pecan pies, mini cinnamon buns and mini sweet rolls. Everyone has a fun cake, but we had an outstanding dessert table. To top it off, the table was themed, “Your last chance for a piece of Lance.” Every wedding seems to have leftover cake but I am pleased to say there was NOT one dessert item left on the groom’s table.  As a matter of fact, I saw several of our guests with two or three items from the table. It was a bigger hit than expected.

Nicole Chatham was our photographer from the beginning.  She was a wonderful addition to our amazing day.  She was able to bring her touch to our rustic feel, as you can see in the beautiful pictures posted.  We will always be able to look back and remember our wedding day just as we had envisioned it.

Classic Austin Wedding from Anahi Navarro Photography + AGAiMAGES NY

Simply put, this wedding is fabulous. With a little more detail, it’s classically beautiful, with a stunning bride and oh-so-handsome groom, sweet as can be moments (like said handsome groom holding an umbrella for his beloved), and the most spectacular sparkler send off I’ve seen. All wrapped up in a gallery filled with ah-mazing images from BOTH Anahi Navarro Photography + AGAiMAGES NY. Now THAT is a Tuesday treat.

Meeting Paul was as close to a modern day fairy tale as you can get. My former boss at JHL Company and Paul’s dad set us up in the fall of 2009.  His dad was the chairman of an organization that JHL consulted for and I delivered lunch to them at a work meeting one day.  We found out later that after I left, Paul’s dad asked Jennifer, “who was that?”  She said, “Lauren Smith, my new assistant. Why?”  He responded, “Because Paul needs to meet her.”

Just a few weeks later, my colleagues and I were finishing up a walk through meeting at the Four Seasons.  Jennifer and the former VP, Melanie, said, “We’re having drinks with one of the Serafy boys in a few minutes.  Lauren, you should stay.”  I was having dinner with a girlfriend later, but decided to push it back so I could.  Man, am I glad that I did!  I found out later that the entire “walk through meeting” was choreographed just so Paul and I could meet.  Paul had moved to Austin from Washington, D.C. a few months before.  While he knew Jennifer and Melanie well, he was clueless about the set up too.

Paul found me on Facebook pretty soon after that, but otherwise, I didn’t hear from him.  After a few weeks, Paul asked me for my phone number through a Facebook message.  When he called, he invited me out for a drink.  My brother, Barrett, who is in the Navy, was in town for a short visit and so I left our first date after forty-five minutes so I could see him.  Paul took that as a bad sign, but he wasn’t dissuaded. The next morning I received a text at 7:42 a.m. saying, “I can’t wait to see you again. Are you available for dinner Sunday?”

A year and one month later, Paul proposed to me at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden in Austin, Texas on the afternoon of December 18, 2010.  Paul told me that he had a day planned for us to go to some places in Austin where we had not been.  Umlauf was our first stop.  After walking through the garden, I discovered that a plaque in front of one of the sculptures read, “Lauren, will you marry me? Love, Paul.”  As soon as I turned around to look at Paul, he was down on one knee with the ring in his hand.  I was completely caught off guard.  My first response to Paul was, “Is this real life?”  He said, “yes” and asked impatiently “well, will you?”  I said, “yes!” Always mindful of ways to make me happy, Paul arranged for Anahi and Edgar Navarro to document the whole thing.

Our wedding was spectacular for many reasons, but if I had to pinpoint one reason it would be the people involved. My groom, my sweet husband Paul, was not only my fairy tale prince, but was so hands on throughout the planning process. I was busier than ever with work, and Paul literally came in to save the day.  Because of his huge role in making our big day a success, sharing those moments with him meant that much more to me. Our moms supported us from day one and were the primary reason that every detail was perfect.

Our most vivid memories involve our guests, our food, and our band.  We loved having all of our very favorite family members and friends gathered in one room.  They came from near and as far as Brownsville, New York, Washington D.C., and even Germany, to celebrate with us and the day would have not been the same without them.  As major foodies, our mouths still water thinking about the perfectly cooked and seasoned filet mignon, wild mushroom risotto and roasted vegetables prepared by Chef Robert Burns at Austin Country Club!  To pay homage to our trip to Spain and our favorite brunch spot in Austin, La Sombra, we served Sangria as our “signature drink.”  Paul gets props for finding our amazing band, Matchmaker.  We both grew up on the Mo Town and Soul music they play and have come to love it even more as adults. We will never forget dancing with our guests who were decked out in boas, top hats and sunglasses and who were hanging on every note they played!
Our wedding inspiration was fun and elegant beauty.  Above all, our biggest goal was to celebrate our love and the union of our two families.  Looking back, the thing I am the most proud of is the way we brought together our families, our friends from Austin and Brownsville, our faiths, and our cultures.
Becky Navarro with Pearl Events captured our vision and executed it down to the second. Because of Anahi, Edgar, and Aga’s photographic vision and creativity, Paul and I can look back on that perfect day and relive every emotion and every moment forever.  Joe Simon’s breathtaking film of our big day is also a treasure.  All of our vendors blew us away and our décor was top notch.  Our floral and lighting team turned Austin Country Club into the venue of every bride’s dreams.
I’ve dreamed about my wedding day since I was a little girl.  Thanks to everyone involved – our parents, our families, our friends, and our vendors – our wedding exceeded all of my childhood dreams. Filled with beauty, joy, and love, it was truly the most magical day of our lives.

Houston Proposal by Pearl & Peony Event Design

Okay, so this is like the.best. proposal story ever! This adorable bride-to-be was convinced by her soon to be husband’s friend at Pearl & Peony Event Design that she was needed to model for an engagement photo shoot. She seriously had no clue the entire time until her super romantic, not to mention, clever boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed with the prettiest ring from Tiffany’s. If this isn’t every girl’s dream come true, I don’t know what is! Willow Tree Photography captured this story to perfection and you can click here to see even more!

From Teri of Pearl & Peony Event DesignI am a wedding planner who helped my husband’s friend, Eddie, plan a surprise engagement to his then-girlfriend, Monica. I came up with a master plan and asked Eddie what he thought (he had a ring, but wasn’t sure how he was going to pop the question).

While at a brunch with friends, I approached Monica and made up a story (okay, I completely lied) about how I needed a “model” for a photo shoot for my business and blog.  I asked Monica if she and Eddie might be interested in “modeling” for me for a styled shoot. Monica jumped at the opportunity and was VERY excited to “help me out.” Monica spent the next few days trying to convince Eddie to participate in the photo shoot (ha!) and he played along like he wasn’t all that interested (get this guy an Oscar!) I told Monica that vendors often trade services, and that I could have her hair and makeup done for free (another lie) Monica (and Eddie) agreed to the shoot, and I started to do what I do best — PLAN!  I booked hair and makeup, a photographer, a baker, selected props and started hunting on Etsy. Before the big day came, Monica must have called me a dozen times to ask about all the details — what she should wear, hair up or down, location, etc.  At one point, I was certain that she knew what was going on … but luckily Monica is as gullible as she is beautiful. So when the big day came, she was still clueless — thank goodness! So the big day came: April 21, 2012.

When Monica and Eddie arrived at the location, I told them my vision for the shoot (of course, Eddie already knew all of the details) I had a mock picnic set up and said to Monica, “I want the photos to tell a story. I’m going to put a blindfold on you and have Eddie lead you to a surprise picnic.” So the blindfold went on (for the first time) and photos were taken at the mock picnic. While photos were being taken at the picnic, I was setting up the proposal location down the trail. The photographers finished up, and Monica and Eddie started walking down the trail. I had to stop Monica before she got close enough to read the sign that said “Marry Me” … so the blindfold went for a second time. Eddie led Monica down the trail to the little table, and I quickly passed the 2+ carat Tiffany & Co. sparkler to Eddie (it was safe in my pocket prior to the hand-off). At the little table, I asked Monica to slowly remove the blindfold so that the photographers could get some shots, and so that Eddie could have some time to get down on one knee. When Monica removed the blindfold, he proposed! It was beautiful, and we were all crying. I can’t tell you how AMAZING that was to watch — I’m getting chills as I’m typing this!

Barr Mansion Wedding by Kim Maguire Photography

Some say being struck by lightning is lucky, and after seeing the Barr Mansion after meeting that fate, we’d have to agree. This couple picked it as their venue, site unseen, and what a pretty gamble it was. Kim Maguire Photography shot all the lucky loveliness, including the Stems Floral Design flowers accented by tiny white buds to match the bride’s heavenly Lazaro dress. See the stunning site and more in the full gallery!

From Kim Maguire PhotographyThe Barr Mansion is a beautiful and “organic” wedding venue. They have been through a lot in the past couple of years. Their reception venue was struck by lightening and burned down. They have since re-built a beautiful and environmentally sound building. They cater their own events with fruits and vegetables that are grown on their property.

From the Bride… Now living in Berkeley, California, we knew that we wanted to have our wedding at an outdoor venue in my hometown of Austin. Having met in DC, lived in New York, Austin and now in the Bay Area, it was almost like having a destination wedding, where our friends and family could visit the town we love so dearly. We chose the Barr Mansion actually having never seen it in person! Our wonderful wedding photographer, Kim Maguire, and her mom captured the beauty of the venue and the spirit of the day. It was pure joy and bliss. The organic gourmet food was delicious, and our guests enjoyed Amy’s Ice Cream while dancing the night away to the great live band, Special Edition, or sneaking off to take photos in the photo booth.

Houston Oaks Country Club Wedding by Taylor Lord Photography

Classic, rustic, glam. That sums up this Houston Oaks Country Club in a three word nutshell. But you know we wouldn’t give you just the gist of the pretty captured by Taylor Lord Photography. There are still blush antique florals by A Symphony of Flowers to drool over, custom rusted table numbers made by the father of the bride, and an unreal sunset ceremony and more in the full wedding!

From the Bride… We chose a soft, yet inviting color palette of champagne, latte and hints of dusty rose. I knew I wanted our wedding to be full of whimsy and charming details and that it would be a lot of work, but a lot of fun too! Trusting that we had the same vision in mind, my ever-so-sweet husband left most of the details up to me. We were especially blessed to have a long-time family friend preside over the ceremony, which took place under a simple-turned gorgeous trellis that my florist made lush with greenery and flowers. Glitter-coated twigs sparkled in the sun as they peeked through the greenery. Being surrounded by the huge oak trees with the breeze off of the lake and the sun gleaming through gave me chills! There are so many vivid memories I have of this day, but the part that makes me smile the biggest was when I stepped off of the golf cart before I was to walk down the aisle. My dad and I were laughing through tears saying, “Keep it together,” and then I walked down the aisle to my most handsome and tearful groom (sorry, sweetheart)!

The reception was where I could really be creative and make this celebration something fabulous! We wanted guests to really feel our presence and personalities in every last detail. From the organically-arranged centerpieces with distinctive flowers set atop tree moss and oak stumps, to the unique accessories and love birds incorporated throughout, it all felt so personal and refreshing to see it come together after the planning! With the chill in the air, the huge fireplace seemed to welcome everyone in, and it became the perfect spot for guests to lounge as they enjoyed the band and dancing. Every other table had the same arrangement set high atop ornate candelabras dripping with vintage crystals. Unique wrought iron table numbers made by my dad were rusted and went perfectly with the theme. Personal touches and DIY projects were so worth the time and energy! Lucky for me, the first BHLDN store opened in Houston just in time for me to start shopping! There, we found the paper poms and antique glittered “bride” and “groom” banners to string along the backs of our chairs. We also found some of my favorite pieces, which included the sweethearts forks and “just married” gold-trimmed plates for the cake cutting, as well as my ultimate favorite: the vintage lovebirds cake topper! The paper poms were hung at the pavilion entrance, where guests were greeted with Texas Tea (complete with a mint leaf and cute paper straw). Guests found their table number from yarn draped across an old frame and signed the guest book at a table decorated with vintage lace and pictures in rustic frames on antique books. I had found a large bird cage hanging from a stand at a local vintage shop that I knew I wanted to use at our wedding. We found a beautiful chandelier that fit inside and cozied up the entrance with its warm glow! Candles from Anthropologie helped set the ambiance, filling the air with a sweet and welcoming fragrance of home. It was charming to step in and see the beautiful wedding cake with the stone fireplace roaring in the background. The wedding cake made for the perfect focal point as guests had to walk around the table when they entered the main reception area. From the vintage bird cake topper and ruffles on the cake, down to the oak tree base with glass glitter shimmering off the tablecloth it sat on, it was stunning.

The night went on with out a hitch. We were so blessed to have such great weather — everything turned out even better than I had imagined! It would not have been possible without my mom, who was my wedding planner, multi-tasking down to the day of the wedding. I also owe a special thanks to my sister, dad, and aunts, for taking all of my ideas to heart and helping me create the most perfect day of our lives! Caleb and I prayed that our family and closest friends would be touched by the ceremony, would enjoy the celebration, and would be blessed by the details of our special day. Seeing how much fun everyone had — I think we pulled it off!

Front Yard Wedding in Austin by Peacock Photography

The combination of perfectly worn in cowboy boots and pretty dresses is one I can’t seem to get enough of. It’s sassy and I am definitely one for a little sass. I’m also one for an outdoor bash dripping in yellow accents and bright, billy ball clad florals with 12, yes TWELVE insanely cute flower girls and ring bearers walking down the aisle to “All You Need is Love”. That’s a lot of adorableness for one wedding but Peacock Photography didn’t miss any of the awesome photo ops. She killed it in the image capturing department and you can see every last one right here.

From the Bride… It all started with friends, family, fun and … kickball. Five years later, we kicked off a new game of marriage, surrounded by all the same friends and family in my parents’ front yard on one of the most special and HAPPY days of our lives. Our vision for the wedding was a day of simplicity and fun, involving our huge group of incredible friends, our wonderful families and, obviously, our dog, Daisey, the most wonderful English Bulldog on the planet! We chose the location, my parent’s house in Austin that overlooks the hill country, because we knew that it would give us the laid-back atmosphere that we craved, and that it also give us the opportunity to be with our family and friends throughout the wedding week and day of the wedding. Thank goodness my parents thought it was a good idea too! One of the most important details to me was flowers! I’m a flowerholic, and my favorite time of year in Texas is when the wildflowers come out in the spring, coinciding closely with the date of the wedding. Besides wildflowers, the only other flower I knew we had to have were pinchushions because Ryder gives them to me all the time and they are our “special” flowers — unique, beautiful, and they last forever! After we knew what flowers we wanted for the wedding, everything else came together very organically and very DIY with the help of family, friends, my amazing planner and Ranch Water!

Most people don’t know this, but one of the best drinks in the world (and my “signature drink”) is called Ranch Water. Ranch Water is made with tequila, lime juice and Topo Chico, which happens to come in a very unique bottle. With my love of Ranch Water and the large number of Topo Chico bottles that I had piling up in the kitchen, we decided to use the bottles and colors as the main centerpiece of the wedding. After hours of fun in the kitchen with glass-cutters and boiling water, we had our wedding vases and were off to a very good start and a memorable family affair! In addition to the DIY Topo Chico glasses, the wildflower arrangements also became a group project. The morning of the wedding, my mom and all of the grandkids got up early to cut flowers on the side of the highway. All the while, the grandkids were asking, “Nana, is this illegal?”  (My mother’s wildflower “habits” are well known to the rest of us and now to all the grandkids. For the record it is legal in Texas — most people just don’t do it on the side of a busy highway. I’m sure thankful that my mother did!) The rest of the morning, all of the bridesmaids and our family sat on the patio, drank mimosas and made beautiful Texas wildflower arrangements.

The moment the wedding started, everything was just pure bliss. The bridal party, Daisey and our twelve adorable flower girls and ring bearers walked down the aisle to The Beatles’ “All You Need is Love,” and Ryder and I were married by one of our best friends in the world. We both wrote our own vows that reflected our genuine love and friendship that we have for each other, and we joyfully walked down the aisle together to start a life of laughter and love that I know will always be an adventure! Looking at the pictures now, I’m so thankful that Kate at Peacock Photography and Beth at Loxodonta Events gave us a day that celebrates the things that are so special to us: friends, family, laughter and joy!

San Antonio Wedding from Eclectic Images Photography + Gabriella New York Bridal Salon

My goodness. Eclectic Images Photography, we big time heart you. We just can’t get over the way you captured this San Antonio affair – perfectly. The images all feel like a big, romantic party and we can’t help but feel like we were there, having a grand old time. Dancing with the Mariachi Band, toasting with the beautiful couple. Care to join the party?

July 4, 2011 we decided to take a relaxing sun soaked week in Puerto Rico.  From the moment we landed it rained, let’s just say we didn’t have a ton of beach time but we definitely became very familiar with Old San Juan, the historic fortresses and the mojitos. On the last day we were visiting yet another fortress, Castillo San Cristóbal, and we walked up to the top grassy area to look over onto the cliffs and watch all the iguanas run around.  There was no one around and Brett oh so cleverly got down on one knee….after that for the sun came out!  For our last day and a half the weather was gorgeous. Clearly, I knew that my ring was magical!

Because we were already embarked on a 10 year journey, we wanted our day to be “just a party” – a simple celebration of us and the continuation of our adventure together. With that said, we wanted flowers to be colorful and be the colors of spring. We wanted all the formalities to be swept aside and to have a simple ceremony and a reception that was good food, good people and good conversation. So we omitted much of the traditional and really only observed the cutting of the cakes and a short portion dedicated to toasts. Since I was from Texas and many of our guests were traveling to Lone Star State for the first time, I wanted to have a little bit of Texas. So we had some traditional cuisine of south Texas and of course the most amazing mariachi band one could find, including a dancer!

Austin Wedding at Laguna Gloria by Sarah Kate, Photographer

Meeting your love in Morocco sounds like the plot from a summer romance flick but no, just normal day to day stuff for this Mr. and Mrs. And if their meeting was that magical, it’s a given that their Austin wedding was ten times so. Awash in the palest of pinks and the prettiest of white florals by Petal Pushers and images by Sarah Kate that are as timeless and elegant as you can get, this is an ode to romance; meeting the love of your life over seas and saying “I Do” on your grandparents 68th wedding anniversary. Told you these two were straight out of a movie. See it all unfold right here!

From the Bride… Justin and I met in 2006 while studying abroad in Morocco. We became good friends overseas and kept in touch afterwards, finally starting to date long-distance in 2009. At the time, I was living in Austin, and he was living in Seattle. Within six months, we both knew we had something special. I was moving to Dallas for work, and Justin decided to move there as well so we could give our new relationship a chance to grow. In December of 2011, Justin proposed, and the wedding planning began. When looking at wedding venues, we knew we wanted something different. We considered getting married in Dallas but decided on Austin because of its laid-back atmosphere. We fell in love with Laguna Gloria, a private residence built in the 1916 that was converted into a public art space by the city of Austin in the 1960s. The design of the villa and surrounding grounds was inspired by the original owners’ trip to Lake Como, Italy. We knew it was just the place to achieve the upscale, outdoor, dinner party feel we wanted for our wedding reception.

We held our ceremony in the Central Christian Church near the state capitol building. Another example of Italian style architecture, the church was built in 1929 and houses one of the oldest congregations in the city. We were married on March 24, 2012, a date we chose because of its special meaning — it’s my grandparents’ 68th wedding anniversary. They were married in 1944, just before my grandfather entered the second World War. My grandfather passed away in August 2011, leaving my grandmother as the last surviving grandparent between Justin and me. We feel very lucky to share such a special day with her.

1950s Inspired Engagement Session by Matthew Moore Photography

This adorable couple wanted something totally different and entirely meaningful for their engagement session and decided on a 50’s inspired photo session that encompassed all the things they love. They infused bits and pieces of their loved ones into the shoot like the groom to be’s grandfather’s briefcase and hat and the bride to be’s grandmother’s engagement ring and wedding band. We totally LOVE that! Matthew Moore Photography snapped up all the pretty and there’s so much more right here in the full gallery!

From the Bride-to-Be… Wes and I were engaged in New York City in December of 2011. We have been dating for four years. One of the most important things to us in regards to our engagement shoot was to have pictures that were different from the norm. To accomplish that, we knew we would need an amazing photographer. I don’t think either of us realized just how lucky we were to have Matthew Moore Photography as our wedding photographers until our engagement shoot. They went above and beyond to bring the idea I had in my head to real life. Wes’ last name is Crabbe. Mine is Cook, thus making us the Cook-Crabbe wedding. We have decided to fully embrace this, as it gives us further solidification that we are, in fact, meant for each other.

One of my favorite hobbies is cooking, and one of Wes’ favorite hobbies is eating (again, proof that we are meant for each other), so we wanted that to be a part of our engagement shoot. While we did a few pictures around my townhome, the majority of our shoot was at a mid-century modern home in Dallas where we acted like a couple from the ’50s. I played a housewife who had been working diligently in the kitchen all day preparing a meal fit for an ideal husband, and Wes was a businessman who had just spent a long day at the office, and was now ready to come home and unwind with his wife. In the photographs, there are many nods to our relatives who we both have loved dearly, but unfortunately have lost. They include my Nana’s china and Wes’ papa’s hat and briefcase. I am also wearing my Nana’s engagement and wedding band in the photographs set in the ’50s. Although these are small details that will go unnoticed to many, they are incredibly special details for us. Our photographers did a beautiful job capturing the nature of our relationship, as I truly think you can feel our love and bond radiating from each photograph.

Austin Picnic Photo Shoot by Gypsy Floral and Events

Love tents and flower crowns are about as bohemian as you can get and a look that Gypsy Floral and Events pulls off impeccably. They teamed up with InkedFingers Photography for a picnic shoot full of love and barefoot dancing with a ton of cute details to inspire your next boho fête. Whether that be an engagement shoot or a full blown wedding love fest, you can find so much inspiration in the folds of this shoot. See it all right here.

From Gypsy Floral and EventsThe designers at Gypsy appreciate the nomadic, bohemian lifestyle and reflect this through design and innovative events such as The Gypsy Picnic.  Conceived out of a need to help their clients stay connected during the wedding planning process, Gypsy creates memories combining nostalgia and vintage items from the past and curates them in a romantic picnic for two. Crocheted linens, hand-stitched fabrics collected by grandmothers, vintage vases and antique china compose the mise-en-scène for this delightful photo shoot. For this experience, ambiance was key, so we started with a feeling and worked to create an intimate and fun outing for a local couple. Loot Vintage Rentals provided vintage monogrammed sheets, quilts, button cushions, doily globes and an Aztec blanket. We served a quintessential southern meal from Lucy’s Fried Chicken, with collard greens and roasted corn all placed on bone china and sterling silver. Adding to the mystique, the couple playfully read each others’ fortunes with tarot cards, hoping to catch a glimpse of their adventure-filled future. One thing is certain — the cards foretold a story of long life, love and happiness.

Nestled beneath the undulating branches of an live oak tree, the pup tent made the perfect place to sneak away for a kiss. Photographer Carli Keine created a set of ethereal sunset photographs tinged with romance and saturated with color. It was a perfect picnic to spark a little romance before the couple’s wedding. Gypsy Floral offers a variety of services from picnic themes to comprehensive floral and event design. Gypsy picnics include flowers, meal delivery, music and all decorative elements. Each picnic is personalized to meet a couple’s style and meal preference. Including them in the creative picnic process is one of the most romantic parts for the fiancés!

From the Bride… Michael and I met one cold and icy day in Dallas the weekend before Valentine ’s Day. We began dating shortly after that fateful weekend, and we quickly began to share our lives and our mutual love for music, sports and friends. Planning for our wedding was a group effort, and both of our personalities were reflected throughout the entire day. I know I received more help than usual when it comes to the groom’s input, but Michael and his family know how to throw a good party. The Hyatt offered something different than most venues with the option to get married outside and then to throw two receptions — one outside, and then a second inside a ballroom. This idea had both Michael and I hooked. I knew I wanted something outside, under the stars and intimate, and I also knew he wanted something inside, with a loud band and glow sticks!

The inspiration for the theme of our outside wedding was more organic. I hadn’t really picked the colors for the day until bridesmaid shopping, when I fell in love with Swann’s slate dresses. I’ve always loved neutral and natural tones and once I found these dresses, I instantly knew which direction I wanted to go. I wanted the day to be beautiful and elegant, but also rustic and outdoorsy. The Hyatt Lost Pines offered both a beautiful and breathtaking venue, while also allowing it to feel rustic and not too feminine. We paired the slate bridesmaids’ dresses with whites, greens and pale yellows. From the rustic burlap table runners to the white milk glass vases, we were able to pair both rustic and feminine touches to create a rustic chic setting.

The inspiration for the theme for our inside reception was simple: PARTY. Michael quickly knew exactly which band  he wanted and exactly what they would play: ’80s music. The outside was mine, and the inside was all his. We ordered anything and everything ’80s party related that you could think of: glow sticks, sunglasses, gloves, glow rings, etc. We crossed our fingers that the guests would enjoy it — and they definitely did! The day was absolutely perfect — memorable, beautiful, and most of all, fun. We were so blessed to enjoy such a wonderful day with our closest friends and family.

Fort Worth Wedding at Weston Gardens in Bloom by The Bird & The Bear

Many things can inspire a wedding theme but for this Bride it was the family heirloom ring on her left finger. And from that vintage piece spawned an idea for a gorgeous vintage wedding set against the greenery of Fort Worth. Photographed and filmed by the double threat, The Bird & The Bear, this beauty is awash with the sweetest of details and even a dolled up pup or two. See so much more right here.

From the Bride… When we started planning the big day I knew we wanted something that was vintage and romantic. Since we are both older, we thought the vintage feel was appropriate. My favorite color is green, so that was where the green played a role. Since my business is staging and redesign, the ambiance of the theme was a major concern for me because I wanted my guests to really feel what Ali and I were looking for on our big day. Most of the furniture has been in my family for generations, so it was incorporated into the props. My center stone of my ring has been in my family since the late 1800s, so that too played a role in choosing the vintage feel. Also, the lace table cloths were actually old window treatments form my grandmothers house.

Some of my favorite moments were when my mother and aunt put my grandfather’s work shirts on to get their makeup and hair done. Since he passed away several years ago, those shirts made me feel like he was present (even if it was only for a moment). When Ali and I both incorporated his yellow socks into our vows, I knew we are going to make it! When my mother, aunt, and I were putting on my dress, we had a moment of laughter and tears that will only happen once. Also, our dog Nola was crying through the whole ceremony, which made me giggle inside and helped me from crying my eyes out. It feels like I’ve been planning this day forever, and it was over in the blink of an eye.

Dallas Heritage Village Wedding by Taylor Lord Photography

Take a Bride with a penchant for color and a Groom who falls more on the side of classic, then throw in their combined love for all things music and the result is colorful elegance with a to-die-for playlist and, of course, records for favors. Shot by Taylor Lord Photography with uber beautiful flora by Bows and Arrows and all sorts of lovely details planned by After Yes, this is Dallas meets New orleans meets heaven in wedding form. See it all right here!

From the Bride… Justin and I met in the fall of 2010, and our first few dates were one music venue after another. Until date number four, which started local in Dallas, but then we hopped on a plane to Austin to check out more music. This was the weekend that we knew. Many shows and festivals later, Justin knew it was time. By fall 2011, he planned us a surprise trip to New Orleans, my favorite city in the world. He popped the question in Jackson Square, in front of the cathedral. (This is my favorite part) And, as I said ‘Yes!’ for the first of at least seven times, the bells clocked noon. Surreal moment.

We knew we wanted to get married in Dallas, where we met and currently call home. While Deacon Tim prepared us for our marriage, Elizabeth, our planner, gathered us a power team of vendors. We are still talking about how lucky we are to have found Taylor, our photographer — not just for her gorgeous work, but also because you can’t help but smile when she’s around! For the reception, we envisioned a party. Something that combined my eclectic, colorful style and Justin’s clean white, streamlined taste (this will be a forever compromise in our household!). I wanted lights everywhere, and I want to believe Justin had just as much fun making the candles as I did! He was an amazing help – I would come up with the ideas (mostly from stalking SMP), and together we’d work on our projects. The venue, Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park, had a beautiful Main Street area with historic buildings surrounding a red brick road with a view of downtown Dallas in the background. Elizabeth knew of a vendor who strung white lights over the street. The café lights made all the difference and were a perfect finishing touch. To tie in our love of live music we needed to have a band – the Walton Stout Band – who even took the time to learn a song (‘Beautiful Morning Light’ by the Fruit Bats) from the first album that Justin gave me for our first dance, and learned how to do the second line – a New Orleans tradition. Justin and I made our wedding favors with CDs that looked like records (along with the actual 45s we used for our save the dates) and a playlist full of songs from shows we had seen together.

On the day of the wedding, the girls and I had the ultimate girls’ day, but I was still somehow nervous. It wasn’t until Justin and I had our first look late that afternoon that my heart was calm again (that really was a long time for us to be apart!). The ceremony was perfect (I’m biased) and the band kept us dancing at the reception through the night — they didn’t even make fun of me when I had to throw my bouquet three times because of bad aim! At the close of the reception, the horns led us out to “When the Saints Go Marching In” through a sparkler exit — I mean, what a great way to end such an incredible night!

Austin Wedding at Barr Mansion by Hyde Park Photography

This bride and groom are brimming with personality and love for their cultures (and one another) and it shines at their Barr Mansion & Artisan Ballroom nuptials. We’re talking chuppah, breaking of the glass, and a mariachi band. Stems Floral Design blended soft spring colors with rich jewel hues just as well as this couple blended traditional touches, and it all came together for one stunning sunny afternoon ceremony and more. How much more? Check out the rest of Hyde Park Photography‘s flawless photo coverage in the full gallery to see for yourself!

From the Bride… Doug and I took three years to decide and create every detail of our wedding day. As recent transplants to Austin from the west coast, we knew our friends and family would be traveling to the wedding from all over the country. We wanted our wedding to be a portrait of us — full of our culture, music and our new home in Texas. We designed and assembled all of our wedding stationery, from save-the-dates to thanks you cards — it was a lot! Our honeymoon was in Ecuador and provided the theme for our cake topper. I used vintage frames to display table numbers and guest seating. Goodwill made that a very green and affordable alternative to having individual place cards. Doug and I would correspond through letters when we lived apart. It gave me the idea to turn our guest book into a collection of love letters to us from our guests. Each guest wrote a note and tucked it in petite envelopes fastened to the pages of an album. My sweet friends from out of town helped make the fanciful “hooray” flags just days before the wedding.

My mother is Mexican, and both our fathers are Jewish. We included a little from each culture: married beneath a chuppa and smashing a glass, immediately followed by bright and festive and jovial mariachi during the cocktail hour. I grew up dancing folklorico, and I love bold, rich colors. I wanted a natural crown for my hair and big gold jewelry. Stems Floral created my gorgeous rose clusters — those ladies are masters at their craft. We wanted a lot of herbs and soft, subtle floral decor to offset the deep reds donned by the girls and me. Lavender, rosemary and basil were dropped by our flower girl, and all the boutonnieres and corsages contained them as well. I loved the idea of the scent as a part of the memory of the day.

The wonderful Rick Rabon and Barr Mansion took care of the rest. They have have a lovely staff, are completely organic and provided all dining accommodations as well. The food and desserts were phenomenal, and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. They even made our wedding favors. Once the music started, the party was on. Guests threw off their shoes and got down on some live soul music. Everyone was on the floor getting sweaty to the sweet sounds of Lost Soul Revue until the very end. To end the night we scurried through a tunnel of glittering sparklers to a longhorn-nosed limo. The whole day was an absolute dream, and guests agree it was well worth the three years’ wait.

Palestine Wedding at Elmwood Gardens by Krystle Akin Photography

Well, I love this Bride. And her handsome Groom. And their love-filled day. I think it’s safe to say every image by Krystle Akin Photography of this intimate, yet elegant affair is making me fall head over heels for this purple-infused pretty party. With gorgeous blooms by La Tee Da Flowers and the stunning backdrop of the Elmwood Gardens – I think it’s close to impossible not to, and you can see all the reasons why right here!

From the Bride… Tyler and I were both raised in a small, country town and absolutely love spending time among God’s creations. One could say that is how we set our sights on our venue, Elmwood Gardens. Elmwood Gardens encompassed the natural beauty of nature with hints of vintage charm and the laid-back atmosphere I so desired for our wedding day. We wanted our guests to feel as if they had happened upon an intimate gathering filled with fresh-picked flowers, home-cooked food and an outpouring of God’s love.

Our color palette was fresh and romantic. Various shades of purple filled the ceremony, complementing the guys’ gray suits. The reception was exceptionally vintage. The hardwood floors provided a wonderful base for tables laced with a variety of antique odds and ends acquired by many a trip to thrift stores, estate sales and antique malls. The many books, mason jars, tea cups, birds and doilies were perfect to set the tone for a homespun reception. We dined on barbeque with all the fixins’ from our hometown favorite, as well as a three-tier wedding cake that blew me away with carefully placed string worked icing complementing brooches from times past. Various homemade desserts provided an extra sweet treat option for guests, and sweet tea was served in classic mason jars. The dance floor was never empty, as guests danced long into the night to the tunes of old and new favorites provided by a phenomenal DJ, who sang most of them. My husband and I exited to sparklers that created a romantic ambiance to end the night.

I was also so honored to have had an absolutely incredible photographer who captured every moment flawlessly with professionalism and flair — definitely moments that I will treasure for years to come. Overall, I felt as if I had been blessed with the storybook wedding I had always dreamed of, thanks to my family, friends, vendors, wedding planner and, of course, my handsome husband.

Austin Wedding at Cedar Bend Events by Nicole Ryan Photography

It doesn’t get more darling than this pretty little fête, it just doesn’t. It’s a DIY detail-fest done oh so right, and every image from Nicole Ryan Photography makes me want to squeal with excitement. Excitement for this adorable duo and excitement because I know this pretty party is sure to inspire brides-to-be out there! It doesn’t hurt that it is filled to the brim with love, which makes for one sweet as can be full gallery!

From the Bride… Because our careers took us out of the city we fell in love in and with, we decided to have a “destination” wedding back in Austin where we could give our friends and families the opportunity to see what we love so much about this place. We had decided on a brunch wedding, not only for the cost savings, but because it gave us the opportunity to spend more time with our family and friends. And let’s face it: how much fun is a bloody mary bar?!

From the beginning, we decided on a budget wedding, so we knew to keep our costs low by DIYing most things, which allowed us to have all the details we wanted at a fraction of the cost. Rich and I are both geeks about maps, and they were especially fitting with our love for travel, so they were a key part of our decor: in the bunting, the paper roses, a rolled-up scroll containing a note from my husband … I actually thought a “adventurous vintage travel” theme was an original idea (silly me) until we found so many brilliantly put together weddings on the blogs. From there, we pulled together different ideas (like the burlap and mercury glass tablescape appropriated from an SMP wedding!) that seemed to flow well with the feel of the venue. Our programs were one of my favorite details — they were kraft paper envelopes printed with the ceremony details, and inside held a handful of lavender seeds. Our guests showered us with them as we walked down the aisle together. Design the Details did the design, and I printed them out and sewed them together. Because I am crazy. :)

The venue, Cedar Bend Events, and its proprietors were absolutely incredible to work with!  While all of the inspiration and planning came from us, Jillian (of Cedar Bend) exceeded our expectations as our day-of coordinator and decorator. Nicole Ryan did such an amazing job of capturing the whole day with her images. We felt so incredibly comfortable with her, and our families are still singing her praises. The most important detail of our wedding was that our guests have a fantastic time celebrating with us. We all enjoyed playing washers and bocce ball on the lawn, the fabulous spread of food and drinks, and LOTS of bluegrass and two-stepping (hey, it’s Texas!), courtesy of the Bee Creek Boys. We couldn’t have asked for a better day.

San Antonio Wedding at the Southwest School of Art by Anne Marie Photography

Punches of purple, stylish maids lined up in a row, a steal-worthy ceremony backdrop and a million and one personalized details sprinkled every where you look – these high school sweethearts can walk away from their big day knowing it was the prettiest of days. Not to mention the most memorable, and Anne Marie Photography snapped up every last bit of it. From the sweet succulent bouquets to the movies after dinner, you can catch every must see detail here!

From the Bride… Sean and I are high school sweethearts who have had the distinct pleasure of growing together in our lives for the past eight years. We know each other inside and out and knew that we wanted the wedding to reflect who were are as a couple and who we are as individuals. When we started planning, we knew that we wanted the wedding to be relaxed, fun and above all else, very “us.” We tried to take the things that we enjoyed doing and put them into a fun night for everyone we love. The vision started as a comfortable, delicious dinner party with family and friends, something we enjoy immensely. We wanted our guests to be comfortable, and we wanted it to feel easy, not forced. Our guests sat outside under string lights at long, family-style’tables of 15. They enjoyed a delicious, elegant, seated dinner that worked nicely with the “family” feel of the table setting. The centerpieces were made of long wooden boxes planted with herbs, flowers and succulents and surrounded by a moss table runner and plenty of candles. The whole setting created a beautiful, easy meal to share with people you love — exactly what we dreamed.

I am a very hands-on person, and I loved creating many of the pieces at the wedding. After a very good friend took our idea and dreamed up a beautiful, unique invitation for us, I was able to take it and use elements throughout other pieces to create a feeling of unity. The menus and programs, along with the beautiful wall art above the dessert table and the pinwheel frame that hung behind us at the ceremony, all worked together to create a cohesive look. It was also important to bring my love of vintage, culturally dynamic, creative, natural elements together with Sean’s clear aesthetic of modern, clean design paired with an industrial touch. One of my favorite things about the night was definitely the beautiful pinwheel frame that hung behind us during the ceremony. I created the frame after my amazing wedding planner dreamed up the idea. It was different than anything I had ever seen and really created an interesting and wonderful backdrop for us.

During the reception, we really wanted it to be natural and fun. A typical Saturday night for us is sitting together and watching movies — new and old. We thought it would be a nice touch to bring that to our guests. So, during the reception, we played a loop of classic movie clips. We set up “booths” where people could sit and enjoy it and we had a wonderful, classic popcorn machine with salts and mix-ins. As self proclaimed foodies, we knew that all the food served at the wedding had to be delicious, unique and memorable. Our guests enjoyed a delicious seated dinner that featured steak au poivre, roasted fingerling potatoes, champagne-scented shrimp and scrumptious portabella mushrooms and roasted vegetables wrapped in puff pastry. Before dinner, the hors d’oeuvres included lobster mac and cheese, fried artichokes and bacon-wrapped chicken bites. The reception continued the culinary delights with a nitrogen ice cream bar, popcorn machine, candy/dessert bar and a coffee/hot chocolate bar. The food was all anyone talked about the next day! We were thrilled with the way the night turned out. I think we very much succeeded in letting people know our style and personalities. The vendors we chose were key to the success of everything. We could not have done it without the incredible talent of all of the people that made our day perfect.

Houston Wedding at The Bell Tower by Nate Henderson Photography

I’ve been known to go a little crazy for a pretty pink soiree, so when I first spotted this darling Houston affair, well… I was beyond excited.  Yep, it’s filled to the very brim with perfectly girlie hues, plus some downright amazing florals by Darryl & Co., sweet, sweet bridesmaid frocks and one of the prettiest lace gowns I have ever seen.  All planned by Stellar Creative Studio and featuring devastatingly gorgeous images by Nate Henderson Photography, you’ll want to cozy on up for a serious day of pretty.  See it all here.

From the Bride… For our wedding we wanted a grand, romantic look, but most importantly, we wanted our family and friends to be taken care of and to have fun. I was planning our wedding 200 miles away, but we still managed to put a lot of input in what we wanted. With the help of Stellar Creative Studio by Tiffany, we converted our dream wedding into a reality. She helped us plan and coordinate the wedding, and she created many other details, including a customized accordion invite that arrived to our guests in a box! When we walked into the reception at The Bell Tower, our jaws dropped at how amazing and beautiful it turned out. Darryl & Co. filled the tables with candlelight and a gorgeous mixture of peach, ivory, and light pink floral centerpieces that coordinated with our champagne linens. RLF Society provided music, peach and pink up-lighting and the elegant monogram that shined over the bridal table. Stellar Creative Studio added all the beautiful stationery details, including life-size D&J initials that adorned the columns located in the outside corridor of the ballroom, escort cards, menu cards, sign-in 3D heart collage, glittery table numbers and box favors. Our cake by Gina was the most unforgettable (in taste and looks) pink ombre swirl cake. The day went by very smoothly, which was a surprise because everyone warned us how stressed we would be. After eating a delicious meal and enjoying all the speeches, we danced the entire night to an awesome playlist! Our guests loved everything, and their only wish is that they could have stayed longer.

I can’t thank our vendors enough for creating such a perfect wedding tailored for us and being so incredible throughout the process! Our favorite part is that we could enjoy being with each other and our family and friends without having to worry about anything. Many thanks to Tiffany (for everything!!) with Stellar Creative Studio, Nate Henderson Photography, Darryl & Co., Angie at the Bell Tower, Phuong Nguyen at Mi Bella Rosa (for day-of coordination), RLF Society and JHfilms. And lastly, a very special thanks to our parents, friends, family and my husband for playing such a loving, supportive and active role in planning! We love reliving the amazing day through the beautiful photos captured by the talented Nate Henderson.
