From the Lauren Peele Photography…. For the table arrangements, I wanted a natural feel and soft colors, so I decided to go with fresh proteas and succulents. I then added in painted eagle feathers and pheasant feathers to complete the southwestern look. I hand painted and distressed all of the terracotta pots by wetting down the pots, adding water to white paint, painting it on with a wet brush and then sanding over the pots with a medium grit paper after they had dried. The process was easy, and the pots look aged and beautiful.

The name cards were another DIY project. I planted tiny cacti found at a local nursery in smaller terracotta pots, then hand wrote calligraphy on the cutout foxes, attached them to small sticks, and planted them in the pots. I then placed them on top of hand stamped geometric napkins and set them on top of Anthropologie plates.

The bride wore a Nicole Miller dress, that went with the relaxed theme, and I attached a vintage turquoise broach found at an antique store. For most of the shoot the bride wore a stunning handmade silver and turquoise head chain, and simple geometric silver earrings. The groom wore a grey fitted Calvin Klein suit, and a navajo print bow tie which tied his look together. HIs shoes were tied with red laces for a pop of color. The boutonniere he wore was made from feathers and succulents, and then it was wrapped in twine.

The cake was wrapped in rope, and adorned with succulents and other exotic flowers. The cake stand was another diy project. I had two slices cut from an old birch tree, and then covered them in mod podge to keep the bugs out. They looked very rustic, and we’re simple to make. The dream catchers were the main inspiration for the shoot. I knew I wanted to incorporate them, so I found an amazing vendor who hand crafted all of them so that they’re all unique. I then made a backdrop out of them by hanging them from the trees on twine. I had handmade leather fox masks made to match the fox name cards. They we’re so unique and fun, and really helped add a playful touch to the shoot.

From Ashley Tinsley of Bourbon & Bloom Vintage RentalsThe photo shoot inspiration initially came from the Restoration Hardware catalog. Their overall design includes a beautiful clash of industrial elements with softer, romantic features that I fell in love with. For example, RH has a crystal chandelier incased in a wrought iron birdcage. It is such a unique piece that combines rustic iron with polished crystal that results in a very chic look. So I decided that this “Industrial + Romantic” style would make a gorgeous theme for a wedding and sought out the best vendors to collaborate for an inspiration photo shoot.

The Olde Dobbin Station offered the perfect backdrop: a building with a rich history that it’s owners, Carrie & Robert McCoy, revitalized by restoring the original look and feel of the former “pump” station and added modern amenities. The exposed beams, high archways, brick columns and location along a country road are just a few of the many charming characteristics the venue has to offer. I first spoke to Terilyn & Koby Brown of Archetype about my idea and the enthusiasm from these two seasoned & talented photographers confirmed my excitement and from there, I began to design the shoot. The second-most rewarding aspect of this experience, the first being the chance to teaming up with brilliant vendors, is the fact that I built most of the furniture for this shoot with my (then) fiancé. He and I feel very proud that we created the farm table and seating in the lounge area ourselves. We gave new life to old metal storage barrels by cutting them in half, painted them and made “tops” to the halved barrels with wood to become fitting seats for the theme. As I continued to gather industrial props/accessories, Terilyn & Koby were tremendously helpful by securing our beautiful models Jalyn & Trent , reaching out to Mia Bridal Couture for the bridal gowns & jewelry, Tamara Menges of Tamara Menges Designs for florals & Briggitte Dix  of Bloom Makeup Artistry for makeup.  I can’t say enough how grateful I am to the Browns for not only capturing these images, but for also taking the time to help me build  this “dream team” of vendors!

Emily Sutton of Mia Bridal Couture lent us two drop-dead gorgeous Christos gown right off the runway & dazzling adornments! Tamara Menges impressively put together exquisite floral arrangements after only a brief meeting with me to discuss my vision. She came up with an array of flowers that  were better than I could have ever imagined! She was such a pleasure to work with and very flexible considering I didn’t even bring her the vases/vessels until the day of the shoot! As far as makeup goes, no wonder why they call it “Makeup artistry” because Briggitte is truly an artist! She was able to seamlessly enhance Jalyn’s natural beauty with a romantic, soft look. And the “dream team” continued to grow when Briggitte brought Billy Jones of OnSight Hair Design into the mix. I loved the elegant side swept do he concocted and it went so well with the style of the Christos gown.

Next, I met with Keely Thorne of Keely Thorne Events and when we discussed the shoot, she immediately wanted to be involved. I was thrilled that an accomplished event planner like herself was going to lend us her creative expertise, along with the help of one of her event planners, Kristin McShane.  For instance, they made a frame out of pipe and fitted it with a chicken wire screen for the escort card display. They also constructed the candlestick holders out of galvanized steel pipe connected to a galvanized steel flange to make the base and painted them in silver, gold and copper to suit our color scheme of metallics + grey + peach + aqua. Furthermore, Keely & Kristin brought Amy Boyter & Melissa Broderick from Atheneum Creative on board. Their brainstorm sessions resulted in lovely dinner menus printed on cotton napkins, a stunning invitation made out of engraved steel (if that doesn’t say “Industrial” I don’t know what does!), the escort cards with a slit at the top of them so they could easily slip onto the chicken wire & the dessert signage that stood up with the help of spring coils. Absolutely innovative!

And speaking of dessert, the team at Petite Sweets, my personal favorite bakery in Houston whose menu features artisan macaroons, cake balls, mini cupcakes, cookies, whoopie pies, frozen custard, gelato, and dipped cones made with Belgian chocolate, graciously whipped up a delicious assortment of macaroons and cake balls. Lastly, Cindy Pleason of Al’s Formal Wear & the gentleman at the Post Oak location in Houston were extremely helpful in lending us a handsome black suit, dress shirt, tie and dress shoes for our groom. I really appreciate everyone’s efforts on this shoot and I am very proud of what we accomplished! “

From the Bride… Nick and I met while attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock. We moved to Houston after graduation and shortly after our engagement we moved back to West Texas. We knew immediately that we wanted to be married in one of our favorite weekend getaway spots, the Texas Hill Country.

After doing some research we knew that Vista West Ranch in Dripping Springs was the perfect venue for us. We loved how open and unique the property was and knew that we would be able to stick to our personal style while ensuring a great time for everyone. We tried to keep the color palette neutral as to not compete with gorgeous natural scenery around us. We had a little over a year to plan our special day and we were able put together a team of venders that we knew would make our day perfect. We loved every minute of our wedding and we truly were able to relax and enjoy the day thanks to the fantastic group of people handling every last detail. A special thanks to Christina Carroll for capturing our day so beautifully. We will cherish these moments forever.

Fort Worth Zoo Wedding from Andrea Polito Photography + Emily Clarke Events

This couple and their dream team of vendors have created a whole new style of wedding, one I am unofficially naming Zoo Chic. Because never, ever have I seen such an elegant wedding worthy of the grandest of ballrooms amidst the flamingos and penguins. And for that, I simply must thank Emily Clarke Events and Branching Out. Because this Fort Worth Zoo wedding captured by Andrea Polito Photography is practically perfection, and you can see why right here.

From Andrea Polito Photography… Lyndsey and Reid wanted a unique wedding that could also accommodate their large amount of well-wishers.  The answer to their dilemma was the Fort Worth Zoo.  With planning and coordination by Emily Clarke Events, the happy couple’s dream wedding came together beautifully with lush white floral and whimsical zoo details like elephant vases and grey animal table markers.  Additionally, a gospel choir preceded the bride into the ceremony singing “Oh Happy Day,” guests were treated to a live animal show during the cocktail hour and Lyndsey’s grandmother arranged for a live-event painter to capture the evening as a special gift.  After slipping into a gorgeous exit dress, Lyndsey and her father danced the Merengue and then the happy couple were off!  Lyndsey and Reid are a truly adorable couple and could not have been more deserving of their perfect wedding day.

Houston Drive In Engagement Session from Katie Lamb Photography

Growing up in small town Montana, summer nights at the drive-in were one happening place to be.  I mean, is there anything better than piling into a car with your besties, munching on popcorn and watching your twentieth showing of “Grease?”  Nope… nothing.  Which is why I happen to have fallen hard-core for this sweet e-session from Katie Lamb Photography, which is the perfect combo of one very stylish duo (who happen to be tying the knot in a Houston theater) and the fab vintage stylings of Recycled & Loved.  Click here for all of the pretty.

From Katie Lamb Photography… Annie + Travis are getting married this March at an old theatre in downtown Houston, so we thought it would be fitting to do a Drive-In Movie themed engagement session.

Kristin, from Recycled & Loved, styled the entire shoot, from Annie + Travis’s outfits to the old coke bottles and popcorn.

Austin Wedding from Christina Carroll Photography

You may recognize this lovely bride’s smile from American Idol. She was a finalist on Season 8, and her wedding? We’ll let’s just say, it’s weddings like this that will live on the pages of SMP forever, known simply as stunning. Pretty as a picture (and oh Christina Carroll Photography‘s pictures tell quite the beautiful story), I can’t help but file this one away in my wedding-brain-catalog under the heading of Gorgeous. The bride, the groom, the kids, the fashion… the cake. All absolutely gorgeous, stunning, pretty, and perfect. Click here for more!

We met in April 2007 at a mutual friends birthday party. I’m a singer/songwriter and Justin is a personal injury attorney here in Austin. I guess they say opposites attract because that we are. I am pretty much the definition of a right brain person and Justin is completely left!

For years people had tried to get me to audition for American Idol, but I never did. Shortly after we started dating, I came home and Justin had printed out all the paper work and audition facts for American Idol and insisted that I audition. I don’t know what it was but something about him gave me the courage and the faith in myself that I could do it. That year, I successfully became a contestant on American Idol Season 8 making it all the way to the top 36 and onto the live show!

He has so much faith in me and supports and pushes me to do things that I never through I could do. Its all of this that make me love him so much. His drive and Left-brain ways round out my right brain ways and make me a better, more rounded person.

Justin is such a driven person. I have to brag. This year he was nominated as one of the youngest “Rising stars of Texas Attorneys” to ever be recognized by Texas Monthly. We met right after he took the Bar and its just be absolutely amazing to watch him grow and succeed!

Justin proposed on New Years Eve 2011 in front of all of our closest friends and family. I never expected a thing and was completely shocked! We were hosting a NYE party at the W Hotel which is why I thought that all of our friends and family wanted to come into town. We held a pre-party at our condo before we went to the hotel and it was there that Justin said “He had a toast to Make.” Even at that point, I was still clueless. I just thought he was making a New Years toast! It was then that he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!

We knew from the beginning that we would be having a very big wedding. My grandmother was one of 20 so my family alone was probably over 100 guests. But, we have always been “the more, the merrier” type of people. I knew I wanted something grand, and elegant, yet classic. We did creams, whites, blushes with pops of gold and silver.

The one thing that we knew before anything else was that we wanted our wedding to be a PARTY! My family is from Louisiana and the one thing we do best is dance, eat, and drink! So having an amazing band, awesome food, and an endless open bar was a priority!

I have been to a lot of weddings at the Driskill and it was important to me to make ours uniquely different. So, Olivia (owner of Liv by Design) along, with Townsly and David Kurio came up with a vision to turn the ballroom into a completely different space.

We completely covered the carpet of the ballroom with white carpet and brought in lounge furniture. The most amazing part of the room was that there were 13 foot cut out spaces in the walls in which had our engagement photos blown up to 21ft photos and placed in the spots. (We did a Mad Men Theme for our engagement photos because we are both completely obsessed with that show) It was so amazing! Probably the biggest question from the night from our guest was “What are you going to do with them after?”

Another amazing detail was my wedding cake and my cake table. My dress was layered cream, white, blush, and peach tulle. Making my dress light pink. First of all, I never dreamed in a million years that I would wear a pink wedding dress. But when I saw it and knew it was the one! The linens of the cake table looked just like my dress. Probably one of my favorite photos was me in my wedding dress, squatting down next to my cake table!

Another favorite moment which has become a family tradition is a dance my dad does in a moment of celebration. Its called “the gator” in which my dad gets down on the dance floor an basically flops around like a gator. It sounds silly but he is known for doing it!

It was such a beautiful day and there were so many people who helped to make it happen!

From the Bride… Matt and I knew from the very beginning that we wanted our wedding to be a laid-back celebration of our love for each other – we shied away from anything too formal or traditional. We didn’t have a set color scheme, although we did end up incorporating varying shades of coral and dusty rose as well as burlap in the décor. We focused on creating a vintage/rustic feel for our wedding that would fit with the atmosphere of our venue. Camp Lucy is breathtaking already, so we wanted the style of our wedding to complement rather than overshadow its beauty.

Our top priority was making sure our guests had fun. We had lawn games and hula-hoops during our outdoor cocktail hour and an 80s dance party reception complete with slap bracelets, glow necklaces, and inflatable guitars. Matt and I both worked on a few DIY projects for the wedding, including an escort-card board made out of hymnal pages with luggage tags and skeleton keys, and our cornhole games, which Matt built and I painted. Unfortunately, I am not very crafty by nature, so I ended up relying on etsy (every bride’s best friend!), local vendors, and recently married friends for other décor items, such as vintage books, antique lace tablecloths, and an old barn door with chalkboard panels.

The best part of the day was standing at the end of the aisle during our ceremony, holding hands with Matt and only being able to focus on him, but at the same time feeling all the love from our friends and family, many of whom had traveled across the world just to share that moment with us.

I recommend designating a friend or family member to help you out the few days before the wedding. Your emotions will probably be going crazy, and it’s a good idea to share some of the last-minute stress with someone else. After the rehearsal dinner, just let it all go and focus as much as possible on enjoying your time with friends and family. I highly recommend NOT attempting any last-minute DIY projects. Finally, if you have a wedding coordinator, make sure you communicate your décor/projects to them as specifically as possible – they’re not mind readers!

Austin Ceres Park Ranch Wedding from Feather & Twine Photography

Not only is this pretty fête easy on the eyes, it’s the type of wedding that makes your heart do flips of pure joy for the couple in the center of it all. Where you can just feel the love through each beautifully captured image from Feather & Twine Photography. It’s filled to the brim with the prettiest of blue hues, sunshine that seems to show up on cue and drool-worthy DIYs – and it’s all sitting pretty right here.

From the Bride… When we started planning for our wedding we kept one thing in mind: we wanted it to be a night that our friends & family would be telling our children about 20 years from now. Spencer is a brewer at a brewpub in Austin so we knew from that start that beer would be a major element in the night. Our reception was at Ceres Park Ranch which is part of the land at Jester King Craft Brewery and overlooks the Texas Hill Country. We had 8 Austin beers on tap (which were almost gone by the end of the night) and as favors, Spencer brewed an Imperial stout which will double as an anniversary beer for us to open every year. For dinner, we wanted to have something that we love to eat and that represents Texas so we had tacos by Taco Deli!

As a general life rule, I like to steer clear of uniformity so I chose a color pallet of tonal blues & greens with some pops of light grey. My mom and I did a lot of thrifting to find all the pieces for the table center pieces and we loved the way they turned out! We ordered bulk Limonium, Queen Anne’s Lace, & succulents for the guest tables and put them together the Thursday before the wedding. Our advice for engaged couples: find a great photographer, make sure you thank your family, eat some tacos, drink some beer, be married!

Celina, Texas Wedding at Chandlers Gardens from Kristin Partin

We all remember our first kiss.  Whether it was middle school, high school, college or beyond, it’s one of those memories you just don’t forget.  And for these two sweethearts, it was more meaningful than most. Because their first kiss wasn’t on the playground or in the hallway outside of the dorms, it was on their wedding day… right after being pronounced man and wife.  Heartwarming, no?  Don’t miss a love-filled moment captured by Kristin Partin in the full gallery. It’s a must-see.

And a beautiful film from Tim Porter Studios for even more pretty…

From Kristin Partin… Jessica & Josh are unique. I’m sure that probably goes without saying since most folks think of themselves that way. But… Jessica & Josh live out their life fearlessly and without a concern for others’ opinions or judgement. Jessica, a wedding photographer and Joshua, a striking (smarty pants) accountant, found their way to each other through similar beliefs. Both in their mid-twenties, not only did they wait until they found God’s perfect match to share in their first kiss, they even waited until their wedding day. I admired their courage and I found it strikingly unique & admirable. Their wedding took place under a giant tree in the middle of Celina, Texas during one of Texas’ rare cold fronts. It was windy, chilly and perfect for their delicate vows. Married by her father, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place… nor a parent hoping their children didn’t wind up exactly like said bride & groom. Needless to say, I was honored to have been a part.

San Antonio Wedding from Mayhar Design

The vivid colors alone are enough to suck you right in to this wedding. They’re also enough to send you into all out spring fever. From the rich red hues of the florals by Central Market to the understated elegance of the details crafted by Mayhar Design and right on through to the images so beautifully shot by Christine Sargologos, this is one of those weddings where the gallery is a complete and total must.

From Mayhar Design…Stacey came to us a few months before her wedding – she had just gotten engaged over the summer and was getting married in a few months. She wanted the wedding to be beautiful and elegant, but simple. The venue and date were secured, and she needed help with the details. “I have the venue, the photographer, the dress the caterer. I still need everything else, though!”

We absolutely love to plan the details. It’s in the details that a venue’s natural beauty can come to life. After visiting the Weston Centre’s patio and gardens, we knew a simple elegance would be striking amidst the lush green landscaping and the charming Spanish influence of the San Antonio Riverwalk.

Bright red and pink hues were selected to with compliment the dusty blue Maid of Honor’s dress. Gold would be a central theme to accent the gold chiavari chairs at the reception and ceremony. Keeping with the natural beauty of the outdoor space, we selected azaleas and potted them in terra cotta pots painted gold. For the ceremony space, oversized bougainvillea in baskets flanked the altar space.

The dessert bar featured one of San Antonio’s favorite bakeries – Kate’s Frosting. Not only were the cupcakes beautiful, they were equally delectable with a variety of flavors including Carrot Cake and Red Velvet.

The San Antonio river snakes through downtown San Antonio, giving tourists and enjoyable trip along colorful river barges. Stacey made her grand entrance on one of these barges – both wedding guests and tourists were snapping photos. The exit was equally unique with the newlyweds exiting via pedicab to their hotel a few blocks away.

North Texas Wedding at Thistle Springs Ranch from f8 Studios

Bursting at the seams with charm + sweet rustic details, this Thistle Springs Ranch wedding from f8 Studios has this Midwestern girl wishing she hailed from the south! The bride and her mom crafted many details for the big day, from the burlap table runners and chair bows to the amazing RSVP wedding quilt! Top it all off with some of the prettiest blooms I ever did see by Haute Floral and I know you’ll be spending your afternoon swooning in the full gallery!

From the Bride… We live and work in the Dallas area, however, he’s from Arkansas and I’m from California, both from small towns so we wanted to find something quaint to share that small town feel with our family and friends. I found a brand new venue we fell in love with even before it had opened, Thistle Springs Ranch in Cleburne, Texas! Our first visit to the venue, we met with the sweet owners and knew the venue was perfect!

My mom and I planned everything for 6 months with Thomas’ input; she flew out from California a couple of times to go dress shopping and help with some of the big decisions, it was so fun to have her help since we don’t get to see each other that often. She decided to make a lot of the decorations herself including the burlap table runners, the burlap bows for the chairs, the wood rounds for the centerpieces and the food/drink card holders, such very sweet personal touches that made the day that much more special! As soon as I saw the LOVE cake topper on Etsy, I knew that was going to be the “inside” detail between me and Thomas that would remind us of the first “I love you”.

With the help of Kristen, our florist with Haute Floral, the venue was transformed into the sweet, Southern, charming wedding we had dreamed of. I couldn’t have imagined Kristen would take my vision and go above and beyond as beautifully as she did! Another special touch that included all of our guests was a wedding quilt. My mom and Aunt own a quilting business and we had seen a Pinterest idea about asking each guest to send a swatch of fabric with their reply to the RSVP to make the quilt, it took a little work, but it turned out amazing and we will treasure it forever!

Our caterer was Reata out of Ft. Worth, one of our favorite restaurants! Our favorite item on the menu is their beef tenderloin tamales with pecan mash; we hired them based on the tamales alone! Everyone loved them as much as we do! We had food stations to create a simple family style gathering with sweet tea to drink and a s’mores bar along with the dessert bar.

We couldn’t have asked for a more amazing day! It was December 8th and the weather was 75 degrees, we had two plans with the venue, outside if the weather was good and inside if not, I’m so thankful it was a beautiful day! Our amazing photographer, Carter Rose, was able to capture the sweetest moments of the day with family and friends and with the beautiful venue as the backdrop, it was all more than we could have dreamed of for our wedding day!

DIY Austin Wedding from SMS Photography

After spending all my time around the sweetest little gentleman for the last two months, I’m back. And coming back would have been a whole lot harder if I didn’t have pretty weddings like this one from SMS Photography to look forward to. Seriously, if I can’t be squeezing little baby cheeks 24/7, spending my time with weddings in which the groom made the bride’s bouquet is a pretty close second. It’s wedding’s like this, handmade with love, that put a smile on my face, every single time. And for your smile, there’s a whole gallery of love.

From the Bride… From the second we got engaged Brett and I both pretty much knew that we wanted our wedding to be a reflection of who we are. We started with each picking our favorite colors (Brett’s is baby blue and mine is gray) as our wedding colors… after all it’s all about compromise, right?! We both have a love of finding mismatched and old things and either refinishing them or making them into something else entirely so it was only natural that our ‘decor’ was a collection of thrift store finds and handmade goods. Once the overall eclectic/vintagey feel was settled, next up was finding the right place to say ‘I do’.

Though we live in Los Angeles we planned to get married in Austin, Texas and we fell in love with Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs. It’s a gorgeous old mansion that required no decorating of the walls or grounds (since we were getting everything together in Los Angeles and hauling it down, this was a huge plus for us). With that portion of decor taken care of, we were able to spend lots of time on the details, and boy did we!

I designed and printed our Save the Dates, Wedding Invitations, and all printed items at the wedding which was quite the fun task (I even brought my laptop and printer to the bridal suite the day of the wedding just in case something was missing or needed to be reprinted). We chose to craft all of the bouquets and boutonnieres out of fabric flowers we made (Brett made all the flowers in my bouquet which was a pretty special touch) and all the table flowers were made out of paper. We’re game people so we designed our wedding program with a word find about us on the back and used Scrabble letters on several of the tables. Our love of music led us to naming our tables after songs and instead of having ‘Table 1’ we had ‘Track 1″ to keep in the music theme. We cut all the lace and burlap for the table runners and wrapped tons of little votives with yarn to achieve just the right gentle glow. We collected many books, silver pieces, and antique odds and ends including vintage plates for the dessert bar. We did our best to tailor most things so that we had a hand in just about everything at the wedding. I even woke up a little before 6:00am the day of the wedding and started baking cookies, brownies, rice krispy treats, etc. for the dessert bar because… well.. because I wanted everything to be fresh (and yes I do love baking, and yes it was relaxing… my version of yoga I guess. And well yes, I am a bit of a control freak).

For months our place in LA was a constant workshop with glue guns, lace, fabric, paint, etc. everywhere… we worked like maniacs, luckily all the crafting was a pretty good time! And, if you live anywhere within a mile radius of us, you may have heard loud banging and clanking… no we weren’t demolishing our house, Brett was just busy hammering 100 spoons flat and then individually indenting letters on each one. Lots of work… but man, oh man did they make incredible place cards!

I had anticipated being incredibly stressed or nervous the day of the wedding, or at least having some sort of meltdown. Much to my surprise and delight I was stress-free and just incredibly excited to marry Brett. We decided to have a first look so that we could share that most intimate of moments with just one another (and a few photographers and videographers of course). I’m so glad we made that decision as seeing Brett for the first time and being able to immediately wrap my arms around him is one of my favorite memories of the day. There’s a laundromat across the street from the mansion and we just had to have some pictures taken there, after all married couples do laundry together… just not typically in their wedding attire.

The day flew by and we had such a fantastic time. The ceremony was beautiful, the cake was delicious, and we danced all night. My five year old nephew even took over the D.J.’s microphone and serenaded us with a few songs. We also had a flipbook booth which was a huge hit. We had two guestbooks, one was a tree that Brett drew for guests to stamp with leaves and the other was an address box where guests were able to fill out their contact information as well as leave a little message. For wedding favors we chose to fill mason jars with a little ‘Thank You’ note and place a packet of our homemade Arnold Palmer mix to allow our guests to enjoy one of our favorite drinks. I did a quick dress change before the last song and Brett and I exited as our guests blew bubbles and shouted farewell.

Our wedding was without a doubt our handmade dream and we couldn’t have done it alone. Nothing beats having the people you love the most create and build things for one of the most important and special days in your life. For me this was icing on the tasty cake we got to enjoy! We had the most wonderful time and enjoyed every second. We’d without a doubt do it all exactly the same again.

Dallas Wedding from f8 Studio + Rebecca Hackl

Falling in love with these two sweeties and their breathtaking Dallas affair wasn’t hard to do.  All it took was one look at their seriously beaming faces, one read of their super cute description and one browse through the gallery of brilliant images captured by f8 Studio and I was head over heels.  Even better?  You’ll be feeling the exact same way once you jump into all of the loveliness planned to perfection by Rebecca Hackl, because, well.  It’s just that good.  See it all right here.

From the Bride… I like to think of myself as a New Yorker (although not a native, I had been there almost long enough to call myself one). I had just finished a softball game in Central Park and headed for a post game beer on one of the hottest days Manhattan had seen in a decade. We landed at a bar in a neighborhood nowhere near what should have been the route to my East Village apartment. At the bar, eating a burger by himself was Tres. I didn’t mean to chat him up, and technically, I didn’t. I just needed a place to squeeze in to grab the first round and my two girlfriends invited him to sit with us. The rest, as they say, is history… kind of. Six months later Tres got a job offer in Northern California and I did the unthinkable: I left New York.

Being that I am a New Yorker via Pennsylvania, Tres is a through and through Texan, and we are living in California, we decided to meet in the middle for a wedding location: Dallas, Texas. We found the M Mansion through a friend of a friend of the family. As soon as we pulled up the very first time, I knew this was THE place. We wanted our guests to feel they were each an important guest at an amazing dinner party under the stars. The inspiration for the night was an elegant southern dinner to dance and celebrate our love.

The day was perfect weather, so we were able to have the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all outside, sans tent.

Our favorite details of the evening were our cake toppers and the fact that a friend married us. Since we are not overly religious, Tres’ fraternity brother got his Special Minister’s license and married us, which made for a very personal and special touch. Our reading was from my favorite childhood book, “The Velveteen Rabbit,” and guests were served Pimm’s cups while they mingled pre-ceremony. We utilized candles rather than artificial light wherever possible so people felt like they were spending the night inside our very own romance novel from the moment they entered. The pool made a perfect spot with a nice breeze to linger over cocktails before heading across the lawn to the reception. For dinner we wanted to embrace our Southern host state, so we had Chicken Fried Steak and Lobster Macaroni and Cheese.

The dinner and dancing was on an enclosed soccer field. We had large string lights set up to mirror the outline of a tent and soft candlelight surrounding the edges of the grass. We opted for three large rectangular tables and only a few smaller tables to enhance the effect of a dinner party. We wanted the flowers feeling effortless to take advantage of the lovely greenery on the property, so we utilize large mason jars and natural wood garden boxes with roses, ranunculus, dahlia and touches of kale. It was important to me that the emphasis of the night was the people, not all the decorations. I wanted all the details to seem graceful and natural.

I absolutely loved the contrast of the white dance floor with the green grass. Thanks to the glass panels in the field and the large tables, the field felt indoor and intimate, but then they would look out or up and realize they were outside. It was enchanting.

From Mint Photography… Kelly and CJ’s wedding was one of the prettiest, most laid back, fun, sweet weddings I’ve ever been to. The fact that they had their ceremony on family property just added to the uniqueness and specialness of their day. It’s always such an honor to be able to capture someone’s wedding or event on their family’s property. You know going into it that most likely no one else has had a wedding ceremony there and as the photographer it will be the one and only time you’ll be capturing a wedding in that specific spot. It’s also always so neat to see how the couple transforms just an open piece of land into a ceremony site. The classy decor and vintage touches that they added were beyond gorgeous. Everything just flowed so beautifully. I could go on and on about all the amazingness but you’ll see it in the pictures!

Aside from all the things that made this wedding ridiculously pretty were Kelly and CJ’s obvious love for one another. They are the sweetest couple and I can honestly say that they had FUN getting married! Isn’t that what it’s all about?? Congratulations again to Kelly and CJ!

Austin Laguna Gloria Wedding from Joyful Details + Phillip Glickman

Dining under the stars.  It’s one of my favorite ways to celebrate saying “I do”.  And dining under the stars with a decidedly vintage vibe and layers upon layers of gorgeous blooms from Southern Floral?  Even better.  Which is why this sweet Austin affair planned to perfection by Joyful Details (along with the amazing Sister of the Bride, Sophee) literally had me gasping out loud with each and every pretty pink and yellow moment.  It’s what I call pure perfection of the al fresco kind and you can see all of the beauty captured by Phillip Glickman in the full gallery.

From Joyful Details… Meghan and Alex’s Fall wedding at Laguna Gloria in Austin could not have been more gorgeous! I did the majority of the planning with the brides sister, Sophee, who did a truly amazing job at putting together all the details. The bride’s sister helped create all the invitations and programs also the table numbers, photo displays and chalkboards. The weather was lovely leading up to the ceremony and even a quick afternoon rain shower did not dampen the fun! Guests enjoyed an amazing dinner from Word of Mouth Catering and then danced the night away under the stars.

From the Bride’s Sister… Meghan and Alex are two of the most beautiful people I have ever met in my life. I’m using ‘beautiful’ to describe their personalities and their hearts– kind, generous, open minded, and selfless, although they happen to be the most attractive couple I’ve ever known as well! My sister is the most humble person you could meet, almost to a fault. With that said, her idea of a perfect wedding was getting together with all the people she loves to drink and dance. It would be a celebration, but would certainly not include any sort of spotlight on her. And that’s where I stepped in. Weddings happen to be my forte and I was more than thrilled to plan a day to honor such an amazing couple. I knew an outdoor venue would be best since they are true hippies at heart. A soft palette, wooden tables, and a few pieces of vintage furniture created the perfect ambiance for the intimate affair. We certainly did not plan the rain, but if any two people can take a little rain, it’s them. Meghan stayed inside playing games (well, arm wresting, to be exact) with the bridal party while Alex was outside wiping all the chairs dry after the rain (the groom himself!). And luckily, the rain passed and the night went on beautifully. Food, drinks, and lot of dancing; the wedding turned out to the best I’ve been to. But the night didn’t end there. We left Laguna Gloria to continue the celebration downtown at Cedar Street Courtyard. And the night could not have ended any other way than the bride and groom riding off in a petty cab when the bars were closing.

If I haven’t expressed how rare their love is before, you should know they define the meaning of soul mates. From worlds apart (she from Texas and he from England) and through a chance meeting, they have overcome so many obstacles in their lives. They deserve a lifetime of happiness and I’m so glad they had one day to celebrate who they are and the love they share together, because it truly is one of kind.

Santa Fe, Texas Wedding from Sarah Ainsworth Photography

When I fall in love with a wedding gown, I fall hard.  As in, I pin away like crazy, forward it to all of my friends and save it in a folder I call “someday”.  Yep… I love me some bridal fashion.  So, when I first spotted this gorgeous Marisa gown, it was like fireworks in every sense of the word.  Because this is the kind of gown that you can only dream of wearing in your vintage meets rustic chic meets backyard soiree.  Oh, and the bride rockin’ this lacy masterpiece?  She’s stunning.  See so much more of her day captured by Sarah Ainsworth in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Tucker and I knew from the start that we wanted a laid back outdoor wedding where everyone could feel right at home. We started off  looking at a number of locations around the Texas Hill Country before we finally saw the potential of what was right in front of us. Tucker’s parents have a couple of acres of land just about 5 minutes away from where we live, so we decided to have it right in their backyard. The beauty of it was that we could transform it into practically anything we wanted with the money we would save by not renting out a location.

I envisioned a vintage country style wedding with lots of antique lace mixed with burlap and beautiful chandeliers. The real challenge was making this vision happen within a 6 month time frame. I took to Pinterest immediately and came up with all kinds of great little touches and hunted antique stores on a regular basis for old jars and lace doilies. All of our friends and family came together to help us make our vision come true. My stepfather built the arbor for the ceremony as well as put together the old doors that were used as a back drop for the cake. My cousins husband’s BBQ cook-off team catered the wedding and it was amazing! We are so thankful for all of the help we received and could not have ever dreamed of a more beautiful intimate wedding!

East Texas Wedding from Caroline + Ben Photography

This next little number from Caroline + Ben Photography is so pretty, so absolutely darling I would pinch its cheeks if I could. And the Bride? Well she is the brains and beauty behind it all, and definitely deserves a round of applause for all the love she put into each gorgeous detail gracing this fête. There isn’t much that beats a backyard beauty, and this party proves just that. See it all here.

From the Bride… Our venue was our inspiration. We chose my family’s lake house in east Texas to be the site of both the ceremony and reception. My husband, Danny, then went in search of the perfect band to really set the tone for the evening. The Texas Gypsies gave us a dynamic mix of jazz, blues, and swing to amp up the atmosphere of the space. From there, it was my task to find that balance between the delicate gardens of the property and that awesome groove that The Texas Gypsies could provide. On the sign in table we included pictures of both parents and grandparent’s candid photos from their own weddings.Danny’s grandfather led the ceremony and was a great addition of personality and warmth. He wrote everything including the vows. I have a passion for cooking and set out to make a menu from scratch. Our caterer, Lisa with Adalante Catering was willing to be flexible with the menu and we ultimately served light salads, vegetable medleys and desserts. Everything was served at room temperature or chilled to help keep people cool.

We had a “blessing of the rings” where each guest was given the opportunity to bless the wedding rings (tied together with a ribbon) before passing to the next guest while a song played after parents and grandparents were seated. A small explanation of the blessing was tied to the bottom of the program which also served as a fan to help guests stay cool.

I spent four days with no human contact and only my dog to talk to as I made a ceiling of ribbon to be placed over the cake table and over the dance floor up on the porch. It totaled 3,000 yards of ribbon. That’s 300 football fields, and I almost pulled my hair out! With the exception of Wedding Day deliveries and vendor set up (rentals, etc) my family and I built and installed everything: outdoor lighting, dance floor railings, the garden arch used in the ceremony, stone paving – everything to prepare the property. My mom in particular is solely responsible for all of the gardens in both design and execution.

I have a background in art and felt fairly confident that I knew what I did and did not want as an overall aesthetic. When it came to executing that vision, I relied on my maid of honor for design input and never hesitated to ask for each and every vendor’s particular opinion. I wanted to keep myself grounded and realistic and I think that is what led to the ultimate success of the wedding.

Austin Pecan Grove Wedding from Cory Ryan Photography

Austin may be the unofficial style capital of Texas, so it shouldn’t be a surprise when it attracts some of the most style savvy couples on their biggest of big days. Enter these two (adorable) lovebirds and their picture perfect wedding from Cory Ryan Photography. Not a detail was left unturned thanks to Leave The Details To Me nor a bloom forgotten thanks to Flora Fetish, leaving us with a wedding worthy of your top ten list. See it all here.

From Cory Ryan Photography…. Meredith & Reid live in New York City, but have ties to Austin, Texas! So it was a perfect fall escape to have their destination wedding at the Salt Lick’s Pecan Grove in Driftwood, Texas. The tall pecan trees lined the shady grove, and guests were greeted with a giant artistic chalkboard wedding program as they approached the ceremony. The opposite side of the board served as the backdrop for the photo booth with their names scrolled across the top. SO CUTE! Meredith & Reid were so clearly in love, and they both absolutely lit up when they got to see each other for the first time at their first look. The ceremony took place at sunset, with beautiful golden light streaming through the trees. A few surprises were in store for their guests – first, an amazing choreographed first dance (word on the street was that Reid was quite the dancer – TRUE!), followed by fruit cobbler a la modes in lieu of wedding cake. As any Texan knows, the Salt Lick BBQ has the BEST desserts! Then the tables got turned and the wedding band, London Calling, surprised the bride and groom instead. The bride sang Pat Benetar’s “Heart Breaker” with a live band!!! After Meredith was called to the stage, she was surprised when they were all pointing for her to take the microphone! After momentarily being taken off guard, she turned around and nailed it so fearlessly with all of her girlfriends cheering her on. The groom was in the front row looking like his heart might explode. It was a moment no one at that wedding, including the photographers, will ever forget!!! Reid and the boys took the stage next, and an awesome dance party wrapped up the perfect night! And let me not forget the most awesome spin on the traditional wedding koozie – it read “Eat, Drink and Be Merreid”!
