Driftwood, Texas Wedding at Stonehouse Villa from She-N-He Photography

We meet a lot of crafty bride and grooms out there in SMP-land, but when it comes to uber-talented ladies, this lovely Mrs. just about takes the cake.  Because not only did she design each and every one of her beautiful bridesmaids’ dresses (awesome), she, along with a talented team of vendors, managed to put together a day that is chock-full of pretty, from the gorgeous florals from Stems Floral Design to the awesome cake from Michelle’s Patisserie to the gallery of breathtaking images from She-N-He Photography.  Oh, and her gown?  A Matron of Honor original.  See so much more in the full gallery.

From She-N-He PhotographyLauren and Kevin married at Chapel Dulcinea under the most perfect conditions ever, a little windy with beautiful blue skies. Their reception was held at Stonehouse Villa in beautiful Driftwood, Texas. They had some of the most amazing small touches that came together beautifully with Heather from Vintage&Lace at the helm. Lauren designed her bridesmaids dresses and had them custom made. Stems devised and orchestrated a gorgeous display of flowers in pale colors with touches of tea party silver and crystal and also elements of the outside with succulents and tree stumps. Guests noshed on tea sandwiches and scones from The Steeping Room and shared pints of mead and stout from the home brewing operations of both Lauren’s and Kevin’s Dads, and Michelle’s Patisserie delivered my most favorite cake to date, built to Lauren’s exact specifications – perfection.

From Lauren… My Matron of Honor, Valery Hitt, designed and sewed my wedding dress, train, sash embellishment, and hair adornments. She put a lot of time and love into everything that she did for my wedding and I really think that it all turned out beautifully. She is a dear, dear person and immensely talented. The bridesmaids dresses were designed by me (after some unfruitful searching for off-the-rack styles). They were patterned and sewn by Austin Bridal and Formal. They turned out beautifully and have already accomplished their goal of being worn beyond the wedding!

Terra Vista Strings met every request that I sent to them. So I got Final Fantasy VII music for my bridal processional and Concerning Hobbits for the wedding recessional. And then they played my Final Fantasy music again!!! It was awesome! The song that Kevin and I danced to at the wedding was from a show called Pushing Daisies that we watched together when we first started dating. It is super cute and I think it will always remind us of when we first fell in love with each other. My Maid of Honor, Sarah Nelson, drove all the way up from Houston almost every weekend for a few months to teach us a dance for it. We think that we ended up doing a passable job of it on the day of the wedding. The song that I danced to with my father was called Arirang which is a very, very, very old Korean folk song. It was one of the few Korean songs that my dad remembered my mom singing when they were younger.

I purchased my husband’s ring from a jeweler named Johan Rust on Etsy. The center band of the ring is a seamless meteorite. Kevin is studying Astro-Engineering at the University of Texas and has always loved Outer Space so I had an engraving put on the inside of the ring that reads: Sic Itur Ad Astra 3113 It means “Thus you shall go to the stars.” And the “3113” is the date of our wedding. I’m giving him a leg-up for anniversaries.

The necklace that my husband gave to me on the day of the wedding has special significance to me. I was enamored with it at the jewelry shop and wanted very much to wear it on the day of my wedding. Kevin went behind my back and purchased it shortly afterwards. He gave it to my bridesmaid Elizabeth Boyd for safekeeping. And then he got everybody to lie to me for over half a year (including the wonderful shop owners at Franzetti’s) about the disappearance of the necklace and prospective availability of another one. So I am very glad that everyone lied to me  as it increased my delight on the day of my wedding. The large gem in the center of the star is a sapphire which was my only something blue on the day of the wedding. It will forever be a symbol of my husband’s love and of the wondrous love and goodness of the people around me who aided him in giving me such a beautiful surprise.

My wedding ring was designed and made by McCoy Jewelcraft. Kevin’s mother was a friend and client of theirs and they remembered her when Kevin and I came to have my ring made. They were very kind and helpful to us. They suggested that we bring in gold from broken or unused jewelry to help with the price of the ring. So my ring has gold from Kevin’s class ring, my mom’s old jewelry, gold and diamonds from my dad’s second wedding ring (he and my mom remarried each other), and gold most generously given from my lovely friend Elizabeth. The ring guard was the ring guard from my mom’s first wedding ring. It was fixed and resized by McCoy’s. When we ordered my ring and turned in the gold for it, I told McCoy’s that I trusted them to make a beautiful ring and left happily with no idea of what it was going to look like. When Kevin proposed to me that Christmas, he presented me with a ring beyond my imagination. It is beautiful and unlike any other.

The dollhouse was a project that Kevin and I started for the wedding. I thought that a dollhouse would be appropriate since we were asking for house money to put in savings in lieu of other gifts. We bought a $30 kit from Hobby Lobby and thought that it would be easy. I helped to paint the house and then Kevin did pretty much everything else and the project took on a life of its own. His original degree is in theater set design so I suppose it makes sense. He built a plot of land for it to sit on and put together all of the small details that made it charming. It was a project that I thought would not last beyond a couple of weeks and it turned into a several month long adventure in arts and crafts. It was a labor of love.

But even if modern and minimal isn’t your normal jam, warm up your vocal cords, because this shoot from Studio Uma is going to have you singing a whole different tune. It’s the kind of simple pretty that anyone can not only appreciate, but also fall in love with. Still not convinced you’re the modern type? This gallery is all the convincing you need.

From the photographer … I’m so excited to share this wedding inspiration photo shoot I put together with a team of incredibly talented creatives here in Austin.

With the abundance of vintage/rustic inspiration right now, I was interested in exploring a completely different theme. The modern and minimalist architecture of the Kimber Modern boutique hotel in downtown Austin was our inspiration for fashion, makeup, tablescape, floral design etc. At the Kimber Modern you’ll see clean, elegant simple lines with a lot of white space, punctuated by small, bright pops of primary color.

Wardrobe stylist Cristina Facundo created three stunning modern looks for our bride, and two for our groom. Event designer Maureen Stevens and florist Carrie Beamer created a beautifully modern tablescape and florals.

Houston Hotel ZaZa Wedding from Akil Bennett Photography

Glamourous weddings come in many shapes and forms, from simply sophisticated backyard soirees to drop-dead gorgeous ballroom affairs.  And this enchanting Houston wedding?  It falls in the latter category, with a breathtaking Hotel Zaza setting and some of the most amazing details you will ever lay your eyes upon planned to perfection by Something to Celebrate.  It’s the fab stylings of Events in Bloom meets a mesmerizing Pnina Tornai gown meets a gallery of pretty captured by Akil Bennett Photography.  And the beautiful bride and groom?  The epitome of stunning.  See so much more in the full gallery.

From the Bride… James and I have a unique sense of humor that makes us laugh at most situations. We have the ability to laugh at ourselves and at each other as well, which definitely helps ease tense moments. We also share similar interests like shopping fashion and eating indulgent food. But first and foremost, we put God first and that enables us to really love and respect one another.

James and I looked forward to sharing the things we loved with our closest family and friends during the wedding. We had the rehearsal dinner on Friday, the traditional Ghanaian ceremony on Saturday and held the wedding on Sunday. We really wanted our wedding weekend of events to reflect who we were as a couple. We absolutely loved every part from beginning to end.

The decor was what set the atmosphere. We loved how it had a modern feel to the ceremony and reception. Our spoken word artist, Tydric Martin, set the tone for my walk down the aisle, and our officiant, Pastor Wright, really created a touching ceremony. The cocktail hour had amazing energy with the sounds of LG Entertainment where our guest noshed on some of our favorite items and drank cotton candy martinis. Our favorite parts from the reception were the band, Hard Proof Afrobeat, which we chose because it was non-traditional and their sound is reminiscent of the music that is played in Ghana, where James’s family is from. We also loved the late night stations where people could entertain themselves with the cigar roller, the photo booth or the sketch artist while nibbling on nutella and chocolate cookies and sip on mini Coke floats! Our grand exit really topped off the night as our family and friends lit our way with sparklers! It was truly the best night of our lives and we wish we could relive it all over again!

Engagement Party from Jette Momant PR & Events

This is a love story. A celebration. A gorgeous, inspired party that I have been obsessing over since the moment I first saw it. It’s glowy and romantic and a total blueprint for what a truly memorable party looks – and feels – like. Designed by the bride, who also happens to be an event planner, with photographs by She N He Photography, this little celebration with laughter and joy overflowing from every moment, should be the foundation to which we all plan our own parties. With complete unabashed love. Click here to see even more.

From the Bride… My first experience at Lenoir will always be diamond and white gold glitter dusted with the fact that it was on the same night that my best friend/partner in food love of over five years proposed to me. I’d crafted a Labor Day Weekend Stay-cation that mainly consisted of eating our way through Austin. No hiking Mount Bernal. No swimming in Barton Springs. And certainly no jogging on the lake. Our mouths moving and hands lifting would be all the exercise we needed. We planned to eat at places that I’d read and heard about and had yet to try, sprinkled in with eating at some of our favorite haunts.

After passing by Lenoir several times during my drive home and after reading an article in Bon Appetit where Lenoir was selected as one of the best new restaurants in 2012, Lenoir was placed on our Labor Day Bucket List. I also found it romantic that the restaurant was run by a talented husband and wife team. When I first walked into Lenoir, I thought “I want to eat here. I want to eat here A LOT.” And because I’m an event designer, I thought “I also want to throw parties here and I want to get married here. This place is magical.” Instead, I threw my engagement party there. I planned the event in a little over a month’s time and enjoyed every part of it.

Chocolate Invitations: Because we are food lovers and are in love with the Austin food scene, our wedding theme is “A love affair with each other and with food.” I had custom chocolate invitations made by Delysia Chocolatier which I hand delivered to each guest. The invitations were engraved with our wedding theme: “Dinner a Love Story: Devour love and life. Eat every single bite. Then lick your fingers.”

Design: The space has a “Marie Antoinette meets Alice in Wonderland” feel and is definitely is a classy grownup version of whimsy. The front of the restaurant’s building is covered with a panel made from whitewashed scrap lumber. The interior has a soft palette of blue and white and achieves a chic, romantic look using mainly re-purposed or recycled materials. We wanted to stay in keeping with the eco-friendly design by utilizing natural materials like succulents, bark, and seasonal flowers. We worked with the talented and earth friendly EcoChic Floral to achieve our design vision. There were also a couple of DIY projects with my bridesmaids including the huge white balloons with lace as the base, gold streamers and gold cord as the string and glittering gold pears with guest names written on the leaves for the place settings. EcoChic Floral used vases and containers found at thrift stores and garage sales. Our pop of color to add to the blues and creams of the space was achieved with coral colored flowers.

Cocktail Hour: We wanted the evening off right with lots of bubbly, live nostalgic jazzy music from the talented musically brilliant married couple Courtney Sanchez and Paul Sanchez, and of course, a great assortment of canapes to nibble on.

Dinner: For the feast portion of the evening, we decided upon four courses made with seasonal foods paired with four wines. Each of the four courses from the Lenoir kitchen was a culinary delight perfectly paired with wine. It was a story, from the appetizers and fennel and radish salad to the final bite of dessert, that truly celebrated the reason we were all gathered together. And because you can’t have a party in Austin, TX without live music, there were planned and spontaneous serenades from Paul Sanchez, a classically trained operatic singer.

We also had a fun moment when Delfino and I were goaded by our guests to kiss. We kissed and another guest yelled out “Now, EVERYONE kiss!” To which another guest said “Oh! Its that kinda party!” Which of course made every one roar with laughter and cheers. Best moment ever.

At the end of the evening, when our desserts were being served, popular local singer, Erin Ivey, sang the sexy romantic song “Chocolate” in French and in English.

The evening was a moment in time that neither Del, my guests or I wanted to end. After five hours of celebrating together, we all said our slow and reluctant goodbye’s. It was a joyous beginning to our wedding season with our close friends and a wonderful beginning of our lives together as two married best friends.

Austin Wedding from Shannon Cunningham Photography + BZ Events

Reading the description from a Bride of her big day never will get old to me. It’s just impossible. Each time as I work my way from beginning to end, I feel a grin forming on my face, and for a moment I feel like that lovely lady is one of my besties. Particularly when the story and Bride is as sweet as this one. With her a proposal that included her Grandmother’s wedding ring, and a wedding that was perfect in every way thanks to the help of the ones she loved most, this wedding captured by Shannon Cunningham Photography is simply as sweet as they come. See it all here.

From the Bride… Jordan and I often joke that my grandmother proposed for us. I think both our families knew we were great together and were getting anxious for us to tie the knot. While I was on family vacation, my grandmother pulled me aside and nervously held out her hands and asked if we would like a diamond. It could not have been more special! I received a diamond that was lovingly bought for my grandmother by my grandfather. So much love was already represented in the stone that I knew Jordan and I would only benefit from having it be a beginning to our lives.

We began planning our wedding immediately. We wanted a relaxed and fun atmosphere. We were very blessed to have such great people that made our wedding happen. From the planners to the florist to the photographer – everyone was amazing. Our wedding day was very traditional and relaxed. I felt relaxed and calm until right before I was about to see Jordan for our first look. I was so nervous – it felt like our first date again.

My great uncle married us under beautiful oak trees and scolded Jordan for trying to take a kiss a little too early! After the ceremony guests retreated to the courtyard to enjoy hors-d’oeuvres and music from a string quartet. Our wedding party retreated to the grooms room to enjoy hors-d’oeuvres and tequila shots to prepare for our announcement dance.

The best part of our wedding was the dancing! We started with the Grand March to the old Budweiser song (ode to Jordan’s home town of St. Louis) and ended in the middle for Jordan and my first dance. Once the DJ started playing everyone was on their feet. We ended the party with everyone doing the K-State Wabash Cannonball, since Jordan and I first met at a K-state football game.

We must thank our family, friends and every single person who helped make our wedding special. Without all of your love and support this day could have never happened. Everyone involved made our day very stress-free and extremely fun! We love you all.

Dallas Arboretum Wedding from Tucker Images

Can I just say that I love this wedding?  Like love, love, love this wedding?  Because not only is it drop-dead gorgeous (it sooo is), but it’s sort of everything I always imagined my very own wedding to be; elegant, timeless and a laid-back vibe that is all kinds of charming.  From the bride’s beautiful tea-length Terry Costa to the brunch reception held at the awesome Libertine Bar (yummy) to that pretty, pretty bouquet of anemones, this, my friends, is the world’s best “anti-wedding.”  See every beautiful moment captured by Tucker Images in the full gallery.

From Tucker ImagesFrom our first meeting this gorgeous couple described their wedding as the “anti-wedding.”  They didn’t want to worry about a large guest list or a lavish sit-down dinner, but as they described their plans we got more and more elated that this wedding would, of course, be different than any other we’ve shot, one of a kind and the furthest thing from anti-wedding.

Sarah and Travis were married at the Dallas Arboretum in a perfectly intimate ceremony with their closest friends and family. Sarah wore a Terry Costa gown that she had customized to be the perfect tea length to show off her fabulous blue Badgley Mischka’s! They celebrated their love with brunch and mimosas at the uber-cool Libertine Bar in Downtown Dallas. I loved that they kept it classy and cool with the custom suit and super chic dress, but also brought in some Dallas flare with the decor at the Libertine. Sarah glowed and Travis beamed with pride the whole morning.

Dallas Wedding from Colette Creative + Taylor Lord Photography

Simply put, this Dallas “I do” is everything. The rich colors palette, the statement floral design, and a dress so special, it could bring a tear to any wedding lover’s eye. But when you stop to peel back the layers of pretty, you’ll find a pair of college sweethearts who let nothing outshine their love. And with the help of Colette Creative and Coco Fleur Events every wedding dream was brought to life with Taylor Lord there to capture. It’s a gallery you absolutley can’t miss waiting right here.

From the Bride…From the moment Carter and I met, I knew something was different. We just clicked. Carter and I met at Baylor University through mutual friends but not really until our senior year of college (I recently found out he totally remembered meeting me years earlier though). We knew it was risky to start dating so close to graduation, but that didn’t stop us. We jumped in which led to years of dating in four different cities, traveling long distance, three different jobs, and then a surprise engagement in Nashville, TN, two and a half years later. I knew from the very beginning it would always be an adventure with Carter, and there was no doubt that I wanted to be his permanent sidekick and traveling buddy!

For our wedding, the one thing that was most important to us was getting to spend quality time with family and friends during the weekend.  We have been blessed with a ton of loved ones and wanted to make sure they felt included and involved, so of course, our wedding parties ended up being quite large! In total, we had 16 girls and 20 boys.

I am originally from Dallas, TX, but we wanted to get out of the city a little and have a wedding and reception that felt a more laid back. The ceremony was held in Denton, TX, at Denton Bible Chapel with dinner and dancing to follow at a rustic ranch called Buffalo Valley Event Center. The whole feel was very us: traditional, yet comfortable and relaxed. Even the drive entering the venue was gorgeous with a lit winding path that separated a field with live buffalo! For dinner, we served some “good ol’ homecookin’” complete with chicken fried steak and macaroni and cheese. We stayed true to the homemade theme with a dessert table featuring banana pudding, chocolate chip cookies, and apple pie in addition to my wedding cake. To keep ya warm on that chilly February night, we had a bar full of hot chocolate, apple cider, and coffee with all the fixin’s.

Other than the people we loved most being there, the second most important thing to me was my wedding dress. I was a fashion merchandising major in college and knew that selecting the perfect wedding dress would be anything but an easy task. So after much searching, I knew what I wanted and had to do… have a custom dress made. This was my splurge purchase, and I was beyond pleased with the outcome. I teamed up with the head designer at Stanley Korshak, Nardos, and ended up with a dress with which I am completely obsessed. Flowers were next on my priority list, and I was beyond pleased with those as well. The most “to-die-for” accent was the large wildflower halo that hung over the center of the dance floor. It was absolutely breathtaking and paired perfectly with my centerpieces which were a mix of mercury glass, birch wood, antlers, lanterns, candles, and fresh flowers.

After dinner came the dancing, music, and entertainment performed by the wonderful Special Edition Band. They did an amazing job of keeping everyone from our l5 year old cousins to our grandparents out on the dance floor and having a good time. Carter and I wrapped up the night with one last private dance (which I highly recommend), and then we exited through a tunnel of artificial fluttering snow thrown by our guests. We drove off in an old 1950 baby blue Ford truck and haven’t looked back since! We are all buckled up for wherever this crazy marriage ride takes us next and couldn’t be happier. Hold on tight!

Houston Wedding at The Crystal Ballroom from Akil Bennett Photography

A little bit vintage, the perfect dash of romance and a whole lot of love, this wedding is just a dream come true for any bride-to-be (or blogger in my case). It’s Houston sophistication at its finest yet with a cozy warmth, all planned to perfection by Bash! A Special Events Firm. With gorgeous florals from Stems Custom Floral and a collection of picture perfect images from Akil Bennett Photography – it’s safe to say, this gallery is bursting at the seems with pretty. See it all here.

From The Bride… What I wanted most for my wedding was the bring the warmth and intimacy of my family home into this occasion marking Dan’s and my commitment to creating a new family and a new home. That meant that I wanted every detail to reflect a kind of vintage romantic aesthetic and to convey the sweetness of love, a plan aided by our coordinator, Traci Rushton. Our chuppah, or marriage canopy, serving as our symbolic first home, was sewn by my aunt from a vintage tablecloth. It will become a staple of each life-cycle event for our new family. Mark Miller of Stems Custom Floral, then incorporated it into a framework of dogwood trees to bring in a sense of the natural and organic. He continued that theme– of things found, lovingly collected, and curated– in our centerpieces, each unique and made up of small containers, antique vases, and objects he selected overflowing with blush-colored roses.

Our Scottish terrier, Tillie, was also an important part of our wedding and decor. Dan and I were talking about getting engaged, but it wasn’t until I brought home this adorable, energetic, affectionate puppy that we realized how much of a family we had become. He proposed exactly one month after she started bounding around our home, and, although she couldn’t be trusted to attend the wedding, we made sure she was part of it. She was featured on our save-the-date, a paper cut-out by Julene Harrison, in Scottie silhouettes directing guests to their seats, as a little terrier peeking out from our cake, and in blush and silver cookies guests took home to continue the celebration.

A vintage silver locket pattern with our initials was another motif: first featured in our invitations, it reappeared on programs, napkins, and, most adorably, on necklaces worn by our three darling flower girls, whose happy faces reflected our own joy during and after a wonderful night!

McAllen Texas Wedding from Anahi Weddings

Texas weddings hold a special place in my heart. Over the years as I have cozied up with all the goodness on SMP Texas, I’ve learned something important – whatever the particular style of a Texas wedding, whether it’s ballroom or backyard – they share two common ingredients, heart and family. Anahi Weddings brought us just such a heart warming wedding, where family had a hand in every gorgeous detail, and you can see every last love-filled one right here.

From the Bride and Groom… When Ross and I got engaged, we knew 3 things. We wanted to get married within the year, we wanted to get married in my home state of Texas (where my dad is an ordained Deacon), and we wanted an outdoor venue which would provide a gorgeous backdrop for our interfaith ceremony.

After much searching, we found an amazing venue, Quinta Mazatlan in McAllen, Texas. The gorgeous hacienda estate is also a bird and wildlife sanctuary. After only seeing pictures online, we knew it was perfect! As wedding planning went into full swing, I soon realized that I would be taking on a lot of DIY projects. I was very inspired by artists on Etsy and took so much inspiration from Pinterest and various blogs, but I had a very distinct vision of a romantic, shabby chic, Mexican, bird-themed wedding. That is a tall order to ask, but after some searching, I found the Etsy shop Vintagebabydoll by Claudia Lucio. Claudia’s papel picado designs inspired me and really allowed me to create a cohesive creative vision for our wedding.

So, now that I had found my inspiration, my family and an amazing group of vendors came together to help me execute our dream wedding. Being super organized was key to staying on budget and ensuring we never felt too overwhelmed. Everyone was assigned projects and knew what their responsibilities were. My dad handled the bigger carpentry work. He made various chalkboard signs, large wood display crates for the dessert table, the bamboo chuppah, and became an expert “shabby chic” painter.

My mom was responsible for monitoring the inventory that would ship to my parents’ home almost daily. Mason jars to make center pieces for the cocktail tables. Lace, ribbons, twine, raffia ribbons from various Etsy shops. Vintage china and serveware from eBay. Love and birdcage charms from Hong Kong. Gorgeous bird ceramics from Israel. Paper string lights from Taiwan. We had so many details and keeping track of everything was a great challenge!

Luckily, my grandparents were also a wonderful help, folding delicate vintage handkerchiefs I bought on ebay, which before the ceremony were handed to guests along with handmade paddle fans. Once seated at their tables during the reception, guests found painted gold maracas at their seats, carafes of sangria on the tables, adorable birdcage center pieces, and our DIY napkin rings which featured our birdcage charms which came all the way from Hong Kong. I made the table numbers, as well as all the bar menus, and dessert signs. In honor of my Aunt Gloria who passed away, we even made mini recipe books of my aunt’s favorite recipes. All my other aunts, Gloria’s sisters, baked the goodies and made the dessert table extra special.

Susana Rosser of Dream Weddings did an amazing job making the venue feel extra romantic by hanging chandeliers and strands of beautiful papel picado through the courtyard where the reception was held. Our wedding coordinator Valerie Vance was a rock star and queen of cool all day. We truly feel we had the best people there taking care of us all day. Our family and friends were so impressed! And now we have beautiful photographs and our DIY keepsakes to always remind us of the best day of our lives!

From Nadine Photography… Do you know what’s worse then rain on your wedding day? Fire. This was a really memorable wedding. There was a forest fire on the road leading up to the venue, and many of the vendors like the caterers and band were stuck behind the blockade caused by the firefighters. The photographers just managed to get through. The bride and groom were worried the guests might not be able to come, but the firefighters managed to put out the fire, and everything was just delayed by 1.5 hours and the wedding still turned out amazing.

They had beautiful details, table names were Austin venues, and name labels were hung against a greenery, and beautiful flowers. The bride had home made cookies made by her mom and grandma, the wedding cookies are a family tradition and have been at every wedding in her family

From the Bride… We met and fell in love in Austin and it was great to share one of our favorite places with friends and family. Fire aside, the evening felt like absolute perfection. The details were a labor of love — my sister penned beautiful table names and place cards, my mom made 200 mini cobblers in ramekins, and my mom and grandmother made 700 cookies, a family tradition. An assortment of local drinks and food included “Grandma’s Old Fashioneds,” a tribute to my grandmother, who happens to love the classic cocktail.

We spent the entire night on a packed dance floor with the fabulous Memphis Train band. We were so happy to be surrounded by our favorite people in the beautiful Austin hill country. It was quite the party!!!

Hard Days Night Texas Engagement Shoot from June Bug Co. Photography

I absolutely adore the Beatles. My entire life has been filled with lullabies by John, Paul, George and Ringo – so this couple’s engagement shoot based on A Hard Day’s Night? I couldn’t love it more. With images from June Bug Co. Photography, florals from Bows and Arrows and styling by Event Styling by Shawna Marie it’s not only fun, but stylish, and you can see every last groovy image right here.

From the Bride… This engagement shoot holds a special place in our heart. Adam works in the film industry, music is an integral part of who I am, we love everything the 60’s represent and the first thing we bonded over when we met was our mutual love for the Beatles. We knew that would play an obvious role in our 60’s themed wedding. We decided from the very beginning that we wanted to have FUN at every aspect of our wedding because that is the epitome our relationship. We are absolute best friends. So instead of standard pictures, we decided, why not reenact one of our favorite movies together? Why not have a chase scene? Why not wear mustaches? We also knew we wanted our wedding to not only be a celebration of our love and personalities but a celebration of the amazingly awesome, funny, creative group of people we are lucky enough to call our friends. So we decided to put our own twist on the opening scene of A Hard Day’s NIght while still creating something beautiful that even our grandparents will appreciate. We would not have been able to survive this nearly 7 hour shoot without our friend’s and wedding party’s willingness to make a fool of themselves on and OFF camera. We are so lucky and even more excited about the big day because of them!

The record details of the shoot were designed by me and crafted by Adam using large format prints that are carefully wrapped around cut shipping boxes. The records are inspired by the Hard Day’s Night soundtrack album, with the words and song titles cleverly changed to stand alone as songs but arranged to announce our wedding. The octopus record was actually found at a garage sale years ago and has become one of our prized possessions! That record is a big inspiration for our wedding day. The artist is unknown.

Houston Wedding from Stefano Choi Photography

My recently engaged sister (+ bestie) called me the other day to ask for advice on domestic destination locales, wanting to know where in the good ol’ US of A I thought would make a perfect vacation spot + wedding weekend for all of our friends and family.  My answer?  The Lone Star State.  Fabulous vendors, breathtaking venues and some major experience in throwing pretty, pretty weddings… it’s a no-brainer, really.  First on my list of examples?  This fab Houston day from Stefano Choi Photography, a modern meets classic stunner with beautiful blooms from Blooming Gallery: Wedding Flowers by Lisa, amazing DIY details and some crazy gorgeous pink and gray hues.  See it all right here.

From the Bride….Our DIY projects included: 1. Save the Dates & Wedding Invitation — The heart and soul of our wedding started with our save the dates and invitations. I made the save the dates myself. I printed, cut, and designed it in its entirety. One of my bridesmaids also had a button maker and we attached a magnet with our logo and date. Our actual invitations was also designed by yours truly. The only thing that was professionally done was the letter pressed cover by Workhorse Printmakers. All of the inserts and assembly were done by Ryan and me.  2.  Place Cards — The idea of “take your seat” place cards actually came from Martha Stewart. We used good quality paper to ensure that the chairs would be able to stand on their own. 3. Party favors — We gave all of our guests mini bundt cakes. The box was wrapped with ribbon and placed with a thank you label that we designed ourselves. 4. Cake Topper — I purchased our cake topper from a vendor on etsy. We designed it to match our logo J hearts R. 5. Menu Cards — We designed the menu cards to match the style of our wedding invitations. Each guest was provided their own menu card. 6. Signs — All of the signs were designed by us and made to match the style of our wedding. 7. Wedding Programs.

The day itself was just like every other bride describes their wedding day… a blur and a dream all at the same time. As you probably guessed, sleeping was really hard. I was too excited. That morning, all of my friends started to stagger in to get their hair done by the girls from the Kats Meow. They were really wonderful and were able to get us all done in record time. A good friend of mine, Jeannie Tran (happymakeupgirl), flew in from Los Angeles to do our make up and she was amazing. She airbrushed all of us to give us a more natural and bright look. Being that she was also a guest at our wedding, she was there to provide touch ups throughout the day.

After we finished getting ready, we arrived at the church which was the hardest part for me. I was so excited and anxious for us to get started that waiting felt like forever. Finally it was time and I was called to walk down the aisle. From that moment, all of the stress and anxiety brought on by the anticipation of our wedding day immediately left. I was walking down the aisle towards my groom and could see only him. Our ceremony turned out beautifully. We had a string trio (Avalon Music) that filled the church with the most beautiful music. It really set the mood. Being a Filipino Catholic, our ceremony was long… and we were kneeling throughout most of it. So you can imagine how hard it was on our backs and knees!!!  (Hahaha.)  It was all worth it at the end when we finally said “I Do.”

Next came the party. If I could describe what my dream wedding would look like, it would be exactly how our reception turned out. Lisa from Blooming Gallery did an amazing job decorating our reception. She was able to take what I had pictured in my head and make it into a reality. There were candles everywhere which gave the room a romantic glow. The flowers were lush and decadent.   The uplighting was the perfect shade of sheer pink.  It really was a “WOW” kind of room. The Alden (now called The Sam Houston Hotel) was the perfect venue. The food and service by 17* Restaurant did not fail. To top everything, we had the most amazing DJ and friend, DJ Elroy Boogie. We provided a few “must play” songs and from that he was able to decipher the mood and the type of music that we wanted played throughout the night. Another friend of ours also provided the photo booth, Flashbox. This photobooth not only had the best props, they were also the best quality photos I’ve seen of its kind. We are so blessed to have friends of many talents.

You know… every bride will tell you that you cannot go into your wedding thinking that everything is going to turn out perfect because something always goes wrong. In my case, I don’t think that’s true. I truly felt like everything turned out perfectly.  Actually I think it turned out even better than I could have ever hoped for. It was the most beautiful, emotional, amazing day of my life, one that I will never forget. Stefano, you were truly the backbone of our wedding day. Knowing that you were there to capture each emotion of every moment was a comfort to us. We can look back at our wedding pictures years from now and will be able to relive that day because of you. Thank you for everything!

Houston Wedding at Agave Road from Clayton Austin

Sometimes, not always, but sometimes, I get to “meet” you bride and grooms out there in SMP-land.  You send me a sweet email regarding your feature and we chat back and forth about the specific details or just, in general, how very awesome you are.  Because, let’s face it, you lovelies ARE awesome – and today’s darling Houston bride?  She’s like a crazy cool combo of seriously sweet + oh-so-chic, and from the very first “hello” in my inbox, I knew her wedding was going to be one of my all-time faves.  And guess what?  I was right.  See her stunning DIYs, gorgeous venue (Agave Road) and breathtaking gown captured by Clayton Austin in the full gallery.  You’ll love her just as much as me.

From the Bride… Ryan and I are both originally from Texas, but I was living in California and he was still living in Texas when we first met. If you can believe it, we actually met in Las Vegas! We randomly sat beside each other at a blackjack table at midnight in Treasure Island on family vacations, then walked the strip until 6am exchanging life stories. We’ve been inseparable ever since. The craziest part is I went back to the exact chair where I met Ryan during my Bachelorette Party, I sat down with $10, played only 3 hands, and won three blackjacks in a row. It was like fate was confirming that I should marry him! Although we didn’t want a Vegas themed wedding, we did make our thank you gifts a deck of cards with stickers that read “What Happens in Vegas, Leads to Marriage in Texas.”

Most of the inspiration for our wedding stemmed from the wedding venue itself and wedding blogs like SMP! The first moment we toured Agave Road we knew it was perfect. Living in Houston, we wanted a venue that felt like it wasn’t apart of the city, and Agave Road genuinely felt like we were at a destination wedding. The venue has a distinct Spanish feel that I wanted to compliment with a winery theme I had always dreamed of for my wedding. The theme then became sort of a Modern Spanish Vineyard wedding. With all of the inspiration I got from this blog, everything came together so perfectly. All it took was some personalized touches through Do-It-Yourself projects for my vision to truly come to life.

Being a Graphic Designer, I am constantly going through Do-It-Yourself projects and I knew that our wedding would be the ultimate place to bring all my ideas to life. I lived on Etsy, purchasing over 25 items for the wedding. Some of the DIYs included cake toppers I painted along with hand-died ombre escort cards that were placed in old white shutters I found at a habitat restore outlet for $5. Our table numbers were stained and then placed next to hinged frames with pictures of me and Ryan at that corresponding age so guests could see us grow up together. Also, some of our reception tables had wooden wine boxes that I personally stained and had filled with beautiful flowers from our florist along with glass jars and lanterns. For our guest book, I bought a wooden book from Lorgie on Etsy and filled it with mini envelopes of different colors from Paper Source. We had our guests write notes and seal them so we can open them on our 1 year anniversary! One of my favorite quick projects was a shadow box frame where I cut out hearts from maps with the city names of where we met, got engaged and got married. It was such a delight seeing all the projects come together on the day of to make our wedding feel personalized to who we are.

It’s hard to pick one favorite memory, since our entire wedding was a dream! But I think we both agree that our First Look was our favorite moment of the day. Our photographer decided to shoot the first look from the bridal suite balcony as we met below in a clearing behind the venue. And since he was so far away, we felt completely alone. It was such a pure moment, being able to see each other for the first time and having no one around to pose for. But even though he was far, Clayton perfectly captured the moment with what we think is the best sequence of pictures from the whole day.

My advice to future brides is to stay organized! I created one document that was a check-list for the entire wedding broken up into individual months. It made planning so easy since I only had to focus on what was to be done that month and didn’t stress about the big picture. But remember, when the actual day comes, don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t forget the whole reason you are there! As long as your groom is at the altar and you both say “I Do,” then you had a perfect wedding!

From Select StudiosWhen Megan and Matt first met, she was modeling in Houston and he was playing baseball for Tulane University. After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Matt’s baseball team spent a semester in Lubbock. During that time, Megan visited some friends who attended Texas Tech. Matt and Megan were then introduced by mutual friends over a game of sand volleyball. Though they had fun, it was a year and a half before they saw each other again. Megan was spending a weekend in New Orleans with her friend Blair, who was secretly trying to set the pair up all along. Much to Blair’s delight, the two hit it off and have been together ever since!

We were thrilled when Megan and Matt asked us to be a part of their wedding day. We’ve known Megan since she was in her teens and worked with her throughout her modeling career. The venue she and Matt chose for their big day was another plus. Located in the hill country near Austin, Texas, Le San Michele offered a peaceful, yet vibrant atmosphere. Ornate garden accessories and hanging lanterns along with various arrangements of plants and flowers surround a cottage beautifully decorated with antique furniture and unique accessories. This gorgeous setting, paired with such a sweet couple, made it easy for us to capture some beautiful images.

From the Bride… It was the best day of our lives!  We wanted our wedding to be a celebration of our new life together.  We had 160 of our close friends and family at a hill country outdoor venue called Le San Michele in Buda, TX (about 15 miles south of Austin).  Our venue gave us a lot of flexibility to incorporate various ideas and details – it was perfect, and thankfully the weather cooperated too!

I had a great time getting ready at Hotel San Jose with all of my bridesmaids, and both my mom and future mother-in-law.  We drank champagne and laughed and cried.  Later on at the venue, while patiently waiting inside my dressing room, I peeked out the window and saw my soon-to-be husband arriving with his groomsmen.  I was so excited to be marrying my best friend.

Once our marriage was official, we had a great party with live music from Sauce and amazing food & drinks from Austin Catering (the build-you-own mac & cheese bar was a huge hit!).  We also had an airstream trailer photo booth which was a lot of fun, and made for some hilarious pictures.  The folks at Select Studios were there taking pictures and did a beautiful job capturing the many memorable moments from our special day.

There’s only one thing I would have changed about our wedding day… I would have made it last longer!

San Antonio Wedding from Taylor Lord Photography

I’m not usually one to play favorites, but from the moment this wedding hit my inbox I knew we were in for something wildly special. It’s modern and stylish yet playful and whimsical all rolled into one. Starting with a bold black and white palette, this creative couple layered on purple and gold, stripes and sparkle, all of which added up to one uber fabulous day. But the best part yet? The vendors who made it all happen. Timeless Beginnings planned the day from inside out, and Taylor Lord was there to perfectly capture. Join me for a swoon-sesh in the gallery plus a viewing of Pop Video’s wedding day film below.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/64908125?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&color=66ffcc 600 338]

From the bride…Taylor and I met in middle school and started dating when we were in the 8th grade. 10 years later he proposed in Central Park while we were in New York, one of our favorite cities. Even after being together for so long the proposal was still a huge surprise to me! Every part of our wedding; the planning, the showers, the parties was wonderful and Taylor and I both enjoyed every minute of it thanks to all of our family and friends.

We live in Austin, but knew we wanted to get married in San Antonio where we both grew up. Taylor has a studio art degree from the University of Texas and is beyond creative. He was with me every step of the planning process so our wedding turned out to be the perfect blend of our styles, feminine and traditional mixed in with some modern and whimsical elements. We chose a basic black and white color palette with shades of purples and gold. We wanted to be very involved in the development of our dream wedding so we ended up doing several projects ourselves. The menus, programs, and escort cards we designed and printed and the striped ribbon on the bouquets and the tablecloths that were at the reception we found and had a family friend help sew for us.  Taylor and a friend made and printed the table numbers and  “Mr. and Mrs.” plaques for the head table. We spent a lot of time researching vendors and ended up with the best team. Audrey, our wedding planner, was amazing every step of the way. She made sure our vision came to life. One of the toughest decisions was finding a photographer. Because Taylor graduated with a specialty in photography, this was one area he was very picky about! Taylor Lord was the first photographer we both agreed on and not only are her photographs gorgeous, but she is the sweetest person and we had so much fun having her be a part of our day!

On the day of the wedding I was more at peace than I had ever been. I was so excited before our first look that when I finally saw him so many emotions swept over me. I will never forget that moment we were able to share together; there are no words to describe it. Our ceremony was incredible. We knew from the beginning we wanted to write our own vows. While I was nervous about trying to fit 10 years of emotions and feelings into words, it turned out to be one of the best parts of our wedding. It was so intimate and perfectly summed up our love for each other. We wanted our wedding to be personal to represent us. Taylor’s sister read a poem that Taylor had shared with me one Valentine’s Day. We also had a candlelit ceremony. We did the traditional unity candle and then my sister and his brother lit candles that were then passed on to our wedding parties and eventually spread throughout the church. When every guest held a lit candle, Taylor’s dad said a prayer to bless our marriage.

The reception was where our personalities really came out! As guest arrived they had signature margaritas. The head table was covered in a striped fabric and had a purple ombre centerpiece that ran down the of the entire length of the table. We mixed long rectangular tables with round tables and kept the all white centerpieces low and lighting intimate with candles.  We had a cake and macaroon table that were covered with a gold sequence linen, focal points in the room. We also had a photo booth for our guest, which was a huge hit! For the father daughter dance my dad surprised me by playing a slideshow of me growing up, that he and my mom created. At the end of the night Taylor and I exited down a spiral staircase as our guests threw gold fluterfetti over us. Our wedding was perfect and we were so blessed to be surrounded by all those we love.

Kyle Wedding at the Winfield Inn from Sunny 16 Photography

This couple? I love them. Truly, honestly, want to be their best friend – love them. After one peek at the lovely Bride’s description below and I realized why this wedding captured by Sunny 16 Photography looked so “them” – it was planned by them. Both of them, hand in hand making it a detail-filled love fest everything they both wanted, and that just warmed my heart. The result is one gorgeous (and fun) fête, and you can see it all here.

From the Bride… Geoff and I both have backgrounds in theater and design, so we had an advantage on the initial planning of our wedding in that we know how to create a beautiful setting and work cohesively with each other. Geoff, from the get-go, was not going to be one of those grooms who let me decide and do everything, and I never liked the idea that our wedding was “MY day”, it was OUR day and it was important to me that we make decisions-yes, even linen colors-together.

Geoff and I started off our wedding designing process by attempting to fit everything into a category, “Southern Romance” as both of us have roots in the south. When we were choosing fonts and cups, pictures and flowers, everything had to fit into this theme or it was out. We also had to remind ourselves that more than just a party that we happened to be getting married at, we wanted our wedding to be a celebration and demonstration of commitment and love joined by God and undone by no one. Ever.

Even though Geoff and I were making decisions completely together, there were two mainstays that I envisioned as a little girl that I could not let go. One, my dad was going to marry us (his dad is also an ordained minister, so we had both of them participate in the ceremony) and two, we got married outside. Both worked out magnificently, even though August in Texas is pretty brutal.

I had read a blog where the bride’s advice was to “let go of the details” but that just wasn’t going to work for us as a couple, who relishes in the tiny moments and details. On the big day, both of us knew about the little things, even if others didn’t know how much time we’d put into things. A lot of them didn’t work out so well, but I don’t think we cared. One of my details was along the aisle, I created jars with tiny LED lights in them like fireflies. Unfortunately it was too bright and they were lost, but I liked having them there.

As far as personal details, I was wearing my maternal grandmother’s necklace, my paternal grandmother’s cameo from her great grandmother and my great grandmother’s earrings as shoe clips. I had a lot of woman power with me.

I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses, which turned out perfectly in the end but for a while was a pain in the butt because of all the options! My last tiny detail that also may have been lost to the crowd (but not to me) was each of my bridesmaid’s bouquets had a ribbon around them with their own quote from a favorite movie or book. Mine was from The Princess Bride.

Texas Elopement from Amie Reinholz Photography

For a girl who absolutely adores intimate weddings (read: me), an elopement is one of the best ways to say I do.  It’s all of the glamour of a traditional day paired down to the coziest of details for just you and your honey.  Absolute heaven, if I do say so myself.  And for these two sweeties, it was a day that was planned to beautiful perfection by the gorgeous bride, who dreamt up every moment and filled them all with sweeter than sweet details that really spoke to her and her mister (I’m looking at you, cupcake toppers).  See them all captured by Amie Reinholz right here.

Colors

From the Bride… As a photographer myself, I had my whole elopement planned out in my head “according to the pictures” I wanted to have! Funny, I know, but this is how it literally all happened! I wanted to create something that resembled both Mike and me, which is one of the reasons we eloped! We wanted our wedding day to be about us and nothing else. I think I may have even done things a little backwards when it came time to plan (it took me about three weeks to pull everything together)! I didn’t start with picking a dress or colors, I picked out the items I wanted to decorate with first!  I spent hours upon hours on Etsy and I say that it paid off! I didn’t care if everything matched… I just wanted it to represent us and our style! So slowly, but surely, everything starting coming together and I was thrilled with the outcome! This first time I got to see it all laid out was with Amie in the suite we stayed in. I couldn’t wait to see it photographed! I would do it this way over and over again if I could and never change a single thing! Having a small, intimate ceremony with just the two of us was absolutely perfect! It was definitely a start to my happily ever after!

Houston ZaZa Wedding from Keely Thorne Events

This gorgeous Bride found out pretty quickly that planning a Texas wedding from Montana is no easy feat, that is until she brought on the lovely Emily Moise of Keely Thorne Events. That’s when she found the wedding of her dreams quickly unfolding before her very eyes. With inspiration from an early morning sunrise directing the color palette and floral decor from Events in Bloom so perfectly luxurious yet with a dash of whimsy – this wedding is inspiration overload in the best possible way. See it all here.

From the Bride… I knew I was up for a huge challenge wanting a wedding in Houston and living in Montana. Planning my wedding wasn’t as easy as I thought. When I started the wedding planning process, I had no idea where to begin. All I had were these random tidbits of ideas plus an extremely long list of things that I didn’t want. It was early on that my future husband suggested that my mother and I hire a wedding planner. That’s when we went to Keely Thorne Events and met our extraordinary wedding planner, Emily Moise. Emily took all my tidbits of ideas and with her creative ability turned them into the most phenomenal wedding that PJ and I could have ever imagined.

I wanted my decor to have a traditional yet fun and whimsical feel to it. The colors we chosen reminded us of an early morning sunrise .. pinks, purples and sky blues. We both love the outdoors so I knew it would be important to incorporate the natural look and feel of wood throughout the wedding ceremony and reception area. My love for the outdoors and nature is also what led me to select a hummingbird as a wedding logo. Atheneum Creative integrated the hummingbird into our save the date cards, wedding invitations, along with our wedding programs, table cards, menus and escort cards all which were custom designed by Amy Boyter at Atheneum Creative.

One thing that was very important at every step of the wedding planning process was that we wanted our wedding to be about hosting our friends and family rather than us being on display. For that reason we decided not to do a head table during the reception and incorporated sitting areas throughout the reception room to facilitate a laid back and comfortable atmosphere. We really just wanted people to relax and have fun. With that in mind … Our obvious choice of venue was no other than the Luxury Exquisite Boutique Hotel “Hotel Zaza”. One criteria I had for the venue was that I wanted it to be a historic building. Hotel Zaza is the former “Warwick Hotel.”

On the day of our wedding, our guests were seated while listening to classic rock favorites such as The Beetles, Led Zepplin, Queen and many more other bands. The music was performed by the very unique string quartet group called Divisi Strings. I am sure it was an unexpected surprise to many of our guests.

After the ceremony my husband and I were escorted to a private room where he and I snacked on hors d’oeuvres with our Shiner Bock Beer and our signature drink Bubble Berries. In the foyer, before entering the Phantom Ballroom, our guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. In the meantime the ballroom was being transformed into a truly magical setting by the phenomenal and very gifted Rob Smith with Events In Bloom. You could actually smell the breathtaking flowers before you could see them! The floral arrangements were incredible.

Adorning each dining table were gold trimmed chargers, pale blue water goblets and Burlap wrapped Votive candles of assorted sizes and colors along with gold Chivari chairs. The unique uplighting that was put in place created the most amazing atmosphere where you felt like you could have an intimate conversation with a guest while being surrounded by 150 other guests! And the dancing… I don’t believe there was one single person that came to our wedding that didn’t at some point get up and dance to the fabulous sound of the live band Drywater. Drywater kept our party going till 1:00am. Even then our guests weren’t ready for the night to end, especially since Hotel Zaza brought out the most amazing sliders and fries for the remaining guests to snack on.

Our wedding cake, made by Who Made the Cake, was equally amazing. Our cakes had special meanings to us. My bridal cake was a 5 tier white cake with shimmery Buttercream frosting and a vanilla filling. Each layer was a different shade of sky blue making it an Ombré effect. The cake toppers were actually two birds that I had fashioned up myself. The bride wore a string of pearls and a veil. On the groom I had painted a tux and created a top hat and a tiny bowtie. When it was time to cut the cake we used PJ’s Saber sword from the “Corps of Cadets” at Texas A&M University, which is where we met and both went to college. The grooms cake was the show stopper. It was a 3 tier chocolate square camo cake with a Mallard duck decoy on top, complete with shotgun shells, cattails and an A&M logo on the front. Did I mention that the filling was peanut butter?

We really just wanted all of our guest to have the time of their life at our wedding. Each and every moment was captured by our photographer Adam Nyholt. 31 films captured our entire wedding ceremony on video. They also created a unique video production of our love story.

To this day, our guest are still raving about our wedding and what a fantastic job our wedding planner Emily Moise did with creating such a masterpiece.
