This Calligrapher’s Spring Wedding is a Must-See

Caroline and Josh’s theme for their spring wedding in Texas? All things beautiful. With a fusion of simple, classic elegance and boho whimsy, this sweet couple pulled off their theme to perfection. From the Bride’s beautiful Willowby By Watters dress to the vintage furnishings, this day is nothing short of special. See it all from Magnolia Adam’s Photography in The Vault!

From Magnolia Adam’s PhotographyA private residence set on several acres of land has opened up their space for weddings. Chandelier Grove is a stunning property and has the best of everything; a tree grove, a summer home large enough for both sides of the wedding party to comfortably get ready in and a large white barn full of natural light.

Caroline and Josh were married recently on a spring day. During our pre-consultation, I asked then what the vision for their day was and Caroline responded with, “I want it all to stick with the theme ‘beautiful’. So if I think it’s beautiful, it will be incorporated into our wedding.” Being a calligrapher herself, I knew the details would be perfect.

From The Bride…How did you and Josh meet?
Josh and I met in Houston at a church small group. I had moved back home from Oklahoma about a year earlier and he had just moved to town after completing his masters at Baylor. We were friends (he pretty much liked me for two years) and then he asked me out. I may have turned him down, but after three weeks of not being able to stop thinking about my decision, I called him back and asked him if I could reconsider my answer. I think this beginning was very fitting to our personalities: Josh is thoughtful, detailed, and deliberate. I’m more easy going, outgoing, and whimsy, but I think we both would say after our first date, we never looked back.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?
Josh and I both love beauty. On our honeymoon we took time to visit Musee de L’Orangerie where a good portion of Monet’s “Water Lilies” is housed. As we looked at these massive paintings it hit me how much of their contents reflected what I wanted our wedding to be (and was!): cool blues accented by warm hues, peaceful, a place of beauty and of rest, and (like every bride’s wish) memorable. I knew from the beginning I valued simple, classic elegance with a little bit of whimsy. I so wanted a boho look, but my love for clean, modern lines won out and voilá! You had the Smith wedding.

What were your favorite moments?
Josh would say his most memorable moment was me walking down the aisle. I loved all of it. Some of my favorite details were the potted plants scattered down the aisle, filled with fragrant rosemary and sage. I specifically wanted a “floral chandelier” over the dance floor and Striking Stems was able to catch the vision and run with it. The flowers were perfect.

One of my favorite moments at the wedding was serving communion to our guests as our “first act” as a married couple. It was so special being able to make eye contact with every guest, whether or not they took part in the sacrament. I felt it so reflected what Jesus gave as the greatest commandments and highest goals for life with Him: to love Him with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength, AND to love others above ourselves. Serving communion felt like the perfect intro into marriage for us that reflected our heart and goals.

From Awake PhotographyA classic tale of Texas girl meets Southern California surfer boy. Linda and Sheyne got married in her hometown of Houston, Texas and it was a day no one will soon forget. Starting at the fabulous Hotel Zaza, Linda and her 19 bridesmaids got dolled up with the help of Kiss and Makeup and The Perfect Face. They all looked absolutely stunning in the couture Plum Pretty Sugar dresses in shades of lavender, pinks and blues. They perfectly complimented the gorgeous bride wearing a stunning Monique Lhuillier gown. After getting married at the Bride’s childhood church, St. John the Divine, everyone headed to the reflection pools at the Houston Zoo where they danced the night away under string lighting, chandelier in the trees, and perfect Texas weather. The bride and groom are animal lovers, so they surprised their guests with the animal experience at cocktail hour. Animal trainers brought out an assortment of creatures for the guests to feed and pet. It was a huge hit! Bramble and Bee created gorgeous florals full of garden roses, ranunculus, and tulips which were perfectly accented by tiny golden animals as place cards. To round out a day of celebrating a lovely couple, Pomp and Circumstance, surprised the couple and their guests with a donut holes bar as a midnight snack. The day couldn’t have been more perfect, nor the couple more radiant.

It may be nearly February, but this pretty inspiration shoot from Agape House Studio is going to put you right back in the Christmas spirit. The cake was a holiday inspired red velvet naked cake with gold deer accent topper to tie into the deer mounts by the head table. The cake table was an antique sewing machine table provided by Vintage Indulgence. The cocktail tables ties were made of pure greenery bringing some of the outdoors inside.

Elegant Wedding at La Colombe d’Or Full of Old-World Glamour

For this art-loving couple, the best part of their wedding venue, La Colombe d’Or, wasn’t the stately wood paneling, extravagant chandeliers or the old-fashioned bar. It was the incredible art collection. And against this backdrop, the ivory and gold color scheme, lush flower arrangements and beautiful couple make this wedding a gorgeous work of art. See it all from Jenna McElroy in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…Andy and I wanted our wedding to have an elegant, old world feel, and we found that immediately at La Colombe d’Or. We loved the centuries old wood paneling and the dramatic chandeliers (ok….I loved the paneling and chandeliers, Andy liked the large, old fashioned bar). What really sold us, though, was the art! We love browsing galleries and museums, and La Colombe d’Or has the most incredible collection. Our décor, designed by Plants N Petals, centered around loose florals with lots of greenery for a romantic feel.

The most important thing to us (besides the ceremony, of course) was a fun and wild dance party. The Royal Dukes Band kept everyone on the dance floor all night long! We were so lucky that our amazing photographer Jenna got hundreds of candid shots to capture the shenanigans!

Rustic Elegant Library Themed Wedding

I’m a proud book nerd (let’s not even get started chatting recommendations!) and the more greenery the better I say, so combine these two loves and what do we get? This masterpiece right here by Keely Thorne Events, overflowing with gorgeous green florals and literary love all around. Shaun Menary captured it all, and I’ll be soaking up everything, from chapter one to the end, in our VAULT right here!

From the Bride… Hunter and I live in San Antonio, but we decided to have our wedding in Houston because we both grew up there and most of our family is there. As soon as I saw the Julia Ideson Library in downtown Houston I was hooked – there was no question in my mind that this was the place we were going to celebrate our marriage. Luckily Hunter (who was back in San Antonio at the time) ended up loving the library just as much as I did, and from there the architecture and color scheme of the library really drove most of our planning process. I grew up in the Methodist church, so once we found the library it was an easy decision to have the ceremony at the beautiful St. Paul’s United Methodist Church located just outside of downtown.

We wanted to incorporate elements of the library into the wedding so we added small touches like printing out our Save-The-Dates on bookmarks, displaying the escort cards in card catalogs, and having the table numbers printed on library cards. The Spanish Renaissance style of the library was already gorgeous on its own, so we created a color scheme that complemented the colors that were already there – lots of greenery, white and neutral colored flowers, and gold accents. Our wedding planner, Jennifer Hobson-Kaldis with Keely Thorne Events, did an amazing job of tying together all of our ideas, and all of our vendors were so creative and easy to work with. Even after almost a year of planning our jaws dropped when we first walked into the library that night! After dinner, everyone danced to music by the Kris Gordon Band; one of our groomsmen – a close friend who was there both the night Hunter and I met and the day we got engaged – plays guitar for the band, and we loved how personal it felt having a band that we have seen many times and enjoy listening to so much.

The whole night was perfect. Looking back, we’re so glad that we worked in little moments of private time throughout the day. We did a first look, ate a quick private dinner during the cocktail hour so we could visit with everyone during dinner, and we had a private last dance before our exit. Everything went so quickly and was such a blur, it meant a lot to us to have a few minutes together to soak it all in.

From the Bride… Our wedding day was better than I could have imagined! I was beyond excited and overjoyed to celebrate such an important day in our lives with family and friends. For Franklin and I it was important to bring homemade, personal touches because we wanted our wedding to feel intimate and for guests to see a reflection of us. We decided on handmade paper flowers and other pieces that we could tie with coordinating colors and design. We wanted whimsical and fun, and I think we accomplished that. It was such a wonderful night celebrating with the people we hold dear to our hearts and I’m so happy with how it all turned out.

Elegant Antique Art Bar Wedding

We’ve seen our fair share of guest-wowing venues, but today’s Antique Art Bar wedding might be one of the most unique yet. Lit up and glowing with lamps galore, these two said their I do’s in old-fashioned style with the widest grins to boot. Dana Fernandez followed their every move and the results are packaged pretty right here in THE VAULT gallery!

They were relaxed, fun, sweet, loving and absolutely amazing together! Seriously, what more can a husband and wife wedding photography team ask for?!

From start to finish, Bailey and David’s wedding day filled with absolute beauty, love and so much fun! From the drop dead gorgeous flowers from Flower Power Productions and the show-stopping hair and makeup by Hey Lovely Makeup, to the beautiful and delicious cakes by Buttercup, it was all we could have wished for and more!

Bailey and David’s wedding was held at a one-of-a-kind Antique Art Bars in the heart of downtown Houston, where hand painted glass antique lamps cover the ceiling and walls. The wedding ceremony was oh-so-romantic with a flickering glow emitted by all of the lamps. After the ceremony, Bailey and David, along with their guests danced the night away to the amazing Royal Dukes band and ended the night with a fun sparkler exit! We’re so thankful to have met these two and to have been a part of such a beautiful and loving day!

Rocky Creek Engagement Session

I want to take a twirl in this feathery dress. Don’t you? It was the second detail that made me fall head over heels for this engagement session captured by Dana Fernandez Photography. But the first? Most definitely the undeniable love these two have for each other and how sweet they are in every. single. snap. THE VAULT holds all the proof.

From Dana Fernandez PhotographyWhen Taylor and Carter chose one of my favorite locations in Houston, I knew it was going to be an amazing session as its almost impossible to take a bad photo with the beautiful rocks and creek flowing! To make it even better, they showed up with Carter wearing a dapper suit and Taylor in a gorgeous white feather (she LOVES feathers) dress by Erin Fetherston! We lucked out with a gorgeous sunset and had a blast navigating the rough terrain, but so glad we did as their engagements came out beautifully!

Classic Villa Inspired Wedding at The Bell Tower on 34th

After years of dating long distance, these two tied the knot in an understated, chic celebration at the gorgeous Bell Tower on 34th. This Houston hotspot looks straight out of Europe, which coincidentally, is where these cuties got engaged. Becca Lea captured it all, from this venue I can’t stop obsessing over to the Bride’s beautiful dress. See it all in our VAULT right here!

From Becca Lea Photography… Over the past two and half years, Jenny and Harrison have been living long distance for their careers. “Distance makes the heart grow fonder,” definitely applies to these two. They make the most of their time together and are completely in love! Harrison proposed to Jenny in Paris, the city of love, which also couldn’t be more fitting for them.

From the classic villa inspired venue, the touches of mint, to the handmade guest seating chart created by Jenny, this wedding was simple, clean, elegant, and completely showcased Jenny and Harrison’s style!

Classy + Glitzy Winter Wedding in Texas

Megan and Jake’s wedding has officially stolen our wedding loving hearts. A classic, absolutely glamorous, big ‘ol fashioned party overflowing with unbelievable elegance crafted by Something To Celebrate, Lauren Carrillo. It’s really no wonder we’re downright obsessed, and thanks to captures from , Morgan Lynn Photography you’ll find us in THE VAULT.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/118783568 600 338]

From The Bride…My husband and I met when we both started classes at the University of Texas for our MBA degrees. We spent the first semester as friends and study partners but a romance quickly developed and the rest is history! He comes from a town where everyone knows each other, and I come from a large Polish/Czech family, so these groups combined with our prior college friends and the mutual friends we made in grad school created a very large wedding guest list – about 300 people attended!

Although I definitely was not the girl who had been planning her wedding since her Barbie doll days, I did find myself gravitating toward a few consistent themes during the planning process: classic, glamorous and a big ‘ol fashioned party. I started telling vendors that my vision was “Ralph Lauren glamorous” and that seemed to click for everyone! We landed on navy, gold and white, with a touch of greenery, as our core colors. One of my favorite uses of this palette was for our invitations, where we strayed from the traditional eggshell-colored paper and went with gold foil-pressed wording on a bold navy background.

Our rehearsal dinner at the classic Houston staple, Brennan’s, set the tone for the night to follow – lots of libations plus delicious food, funny speeches, and warm embraces from friends and family who came from all over the country to support us. And of course, Brennan’s famous banana’s foster for dessert!

The church for our ceremony is over 100 years old, and its dramatic columns and high gaping ceiling are breathtaking on their own, but with the romantic candles lit all the way down the aisle alongside each pew, it was even more magical on our big day. The ceremony took place at 7pm in the evening, which meant we had plenty of time to get ready, though we didn’t do a first look and instead spent the prep time without our Bridesmaids and Groomsmen. One of the most sentimental moments of the getting-ready process was preparing my bridal bouquet for the aisle – it was wrapped in a handkerchief made out of pieces of my mother’s and two grandmothers’ original wedding gowns. Jake and I did exchange notes and gifts, brought to our respective rooms by members of the wedding party, and that was the only time I cried all day! The ceremony itself was a traditional Catholic wedding, but not a full mass. Seeing Jake’s face when the doors to the aisle opened is something I’ll never forget!

Our black-tie optional reception at the Crystal Ballroom was a blast, and it truly looked like a CRYSTAL ballroom with the centerpieces dripping in crystal atop navy or gold table linens. Jake and I love to travel, so instead of a traditional guestbook, guests signed a “guest globe” which was next to various photos labeled with the locations of all our travels. Now, instead of having a guest book rotting away in an attic somewhere, we have a gorgeous globe with the signatures of all our loved ones sitting in our living room as decor – it’s a great talking piece!

We danced all night to the best music from our band, Doppelganger, while the guests enjoyed custom rolled cigars and wearing fun dance floor props like light-up cowboy hats and Mardi-Gras masks (since Jake is from Louisiana and our wedding was during that time of year). My favorite part of the night was at the end when our videographer surprised the guests and played our Same Day Edit video on a big screen — it captured the whole day of events like a movie trailer in which we were the stars of the show! At the end, our band followed us from the upstairs ballroom down the staircase and through the crowd of guests blowing bubbles and wishing us farewell. Our wedding was truly the most fun we’ve ever had.

My best advice for brides-to-be? Planning can be overwhelming and people will exhaust you with their opinions, etiquette rules, and advice. At the end of the day, what makes YOU and YOUR SPOUSE happy is all that matters. When we had trouble narrowing down the most important criteria for us to achieve our ‘ideal’ wedding, it helped to reverse the questions: “What would we regret about our wedding day if we decided _____?” For me, a desire to get married in a church was a sentiment that became crystal clear this way; I felt a tug on my heartstrings when I thought about saying “I do” at an alternative location, so that was that – a church ceremony – one decision down! Other advice? Hire a coordinator and get a hydra-facial the day before the wedding.

Texas Gardens Engagement Session

I love when I can legit feel the happiness of a couple, when the love between them is radiating out of a photo – and this VAULT gallery is chock full of such pics. From strolling through the beautiful McGovern Centennial Gardens with their adorably photogenic pup to dancing in the streets, these cuties are pure joy. Dana Fernandez got it all on camera – see every picture perfect moment right this way!

From Dana Fernandez Photography… When Esther and Andrew approached me about ideas for their engagement session, they wanted somewhere outdoors, colorful and that matched their fun personalities. We ended up deciding on two locations, one being the new McGovern Centennial Gardens and the other which was Esther’s vibrant and eclectic neighborhood called Montrose. Esther and Andrew also wanted to bring along their dear pup, who (let’s be honest) ended up stealing the show while she received a ton of love and belly rubs. During the session, they both were absolutely wonderful to work with as their love for each other (and their pup!) was so sweet! My favorite part was towards the end of their engagement session, where we soaked up the last bit of light with some twirling and dancing in the streets as well as some fun piggy-back rides!

Romantic Ashton Gardens Wedding

This wedding day right here? It brought me back to my very own. Not for the similar peachy blush palette or air of romantic elegance, but for the ear-to-ear grins of anticipation, the hold-me-tight first look kisses, the we-just-got-married! giggles and the moments when you feel like you’re the only two in the room. Those bits are what make up a truly special day (and let’s face it, a pretty tablescape never hurt anyone). Mint Photography captured it all, here in THE VAULT.

Will You Be My Groomsman + Gift Ideas

Fellas, it’s time to go shopping because we’ve got the goods on what to get your groomsmen. It’s a creative package that’ll have your guys grinning and geared to celebrate. From the vintage cigar boxes filled with custom bottle openers, to the little libations added in, Dana Fernandez Photography captured it all in a gallery that’ll have you gifting the ultimate honor.

From The Groom… When I started thinking about whom I envision standing next to me when I get to marry my beautiful fiancée, Ashley, I knew that I wanted to ask my groomsmen and ushers in a fun and creative way. I began looking into different things I could do that they would appreciate and enjoy. The goal was to set the tone not only for the wedding itself, but also for the process leading up to the wedding. My goal is for them to have the time of their lives as they help me to prepare for my journey with my wife-to-be. Ashley and I started by going to Manready Mercantile; a place I knew I could find masculine and unique “goods.” While there, I found really cool decks of cards as wells as toothpicks soaked in flavors such as “Six-year-old barrel aged Kentucky straight bourbon” and “Single Malt Scotch.” I also found natural soap with scents like “Bay Rum” and “Cedar Citrus,” and wax-dipped whiskey glasses. Included with these were little bags and stickers with the Manready logo. As I was checking out, Ashley along with the one of the owners thought of the idea to present these groomsmen gifts in Cigar boxes filled with a shredded Wall Street Journal. The owner scrounged up some unused cigar boxes from the closet, and Ashley and I left with a great start to what would become by groomsmen invitation. I added to the box custom bottle openers with each groomsmen’s name and position (Groomsmen/Usher), a book entitled “Stuff Every Man Should Know,” a shooter of Gentleman Jack, and a hand written card formally asking each person to be a part of my wedding party. I enjoyed putting this together for some of the most important guys in my life and I look forward to celebrating our wedding with them by my side.

Winter Glam Wedding with Navy + Sequins

This wedding, m’dears, has got us dreaming of richly hued bouquets and gorgeous golden evenings. Graced with a fabulous palette of navy and berry tones, this gold glam wedding from the lens of Dana Fernandez is sure to delight. Filled with sequins, royal Laura Hooper Calligraphy, and saturated tones, this fête proves to be the perfect blend of youthful fun and sophisticated glamour. More here!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/119143191 600 338]

From Ashley from Two Be WedAllie was the ideal client, she selected a fabulous color palette and let us loose on her style and design! We settled on a winter glam wedding with a palette of navy, gold and lush berry tones. With navy as a neutral, we really pushed the envelope with the gold glam accents – sequin linens, grand vessels and a head table fit for royalty. For floral, a lush mix of saturated winter berry tones atop of gold candelabras and pedestals, and reserved pops of pink for the bridal bouquet. The cakes took the stage atop of navy sequin linens (never too many sequins!) surrounded by candlelight. Allie was stunning in a lace gown for the ceremony and a youthful blush tulle dress for the reception. The couple was young in love but oh so stylish – it was a perfect blend of youth and glamour with a sophisticated touch.

Butterfly Ballet Boudoir Session

Did y’all take ballet lessons when you were younger? I did for a couple years and my favorite part was most definitely twirling in my tutu (instead of doing what I was supposed to). It’s the exact memory that came to mind upon seeing these dreamy images from Archetype. It’s that little girl ballet all grown up and transformed into one of the prettiest boudoir shoots you ever did see.

From ArchetypeMoody, organic bridal boudoir shoot for a bride with whimsical style. The utterly romantic lace and ethereal tulle skirt set the tone for a dreamy collection of images.

“Let us spend our lives chasing the tiny moments of grace that hide in borrowed breaths, stolen glances, and the last instant before smiling lips come to rest.” -Tyler Knot Gregson

DIY insider tip: I made the skirt myself using three layers of silk tulle over two layers of the heavier nylon tulle. Follow online directions to color mix dye for the desired tones of blue. Stitched all layers into a gathered waist bound by a satin bias cut ribbon.

From Select StudiosCrystle and Max’s wedding was one we were absolutely looking forward to shooting! We’ve had the honor of working with Crystle before when she held the title of Miss Texas USA in 2007 and then went on to win Miss USA the following year. She now stars in the Tyler Perry sitcom fittingly titled “For Better or Worse” on the OWN Network. Max is a Belgian-born model who set the bar extremely high when he proposed to Crystle, after a surprise helicopter ride, in front of friends and family who wore t-shirts that read “True Love is Crystle Clear”. The couple celebrated their nuptials in front of 320 guests at Chateau Cocomar in August and it was truly a fairytale!

Classic Houston Wedding in the Julia Ideson Library

I think it’s safe to say, no one does classic quite like Texas.  So take a gorgeous setting like the Julia Ideson Library and add the fab stylings of Keely Thorne Events, plus lush florals from Events In Bloom and luxe golden hues and it’s one of the prettiest days you’ll ever lay your eyes upon.  See all of the traditional lovely captured by Kelli Elizabeth Photography right here.

From Kelli ElizabethMichelle & Scott got married at an old historic Library. Nestled in downtown Houston, this historic gem was built in 1926, with classic architecture. The setting was a perfect juxtaposition of urban life, and southern romance. To keep a natural feel, we used bay leaf garland to not deter from the gorgeous setting. Bistro lighting brought their foodie love of adorable cafes into the main study hall. Using vintage polaroid cameras and books from her family’s library brought a personal chapter to their wedding story.

As the bride works for an advertising firm, she worked on all the design and signage for their wedding in-house, and they looked amazing! The groom incorporated his fun sense of humor with his fourth of July themed socks and Wayfarers for him and his groomsmen. For wedding favors, the couple made their homemade spice blend in jars for everyone to take home. Each one labeled “The Perfect Blend.”

Romantic Picnic Surprise Proposal

Are you ready to see the sweetest proposal? I’m not just talking about those perfectly pink macarons or even those lovely pastel blooms, no m’dears because this surprise proposal is all that and so much more. With a plan laid out, this darling duo set out for a picnic styled shoot that turned proposal, and with Dana Fernandez Photography behind the lens every happy tear is waiting for you, here!

From Dana Fernandez Photography … Two weeks before the proposal, our nephew, Matthew, told us that he was going to propose to his girlfriend Ashley! We were so ecstatic! We immediately offered to secretly capture everything. His original idea was to go for a walk along Houston’s Buffalo Bayou and lead her to a random picnic, which is where he would propose!

As we got closer to the date, I started to think about the fact that Ashley would probably want to be dressed up and looking her best, especially since every moment would be captured. So, about a week before, I came up with an idea to still do the original picnic but to make it appear to be a styled shoot.

Thanks to the amazing vendors, Blush and Vine, Hey Lovely Makeup, and Buttercup, we were able to put our scheme together in just a few short days! The day before, I called Matthew and Ashley acting like I had a styled shoot and told Ashley that the models got sick. I asked if she could fill in last minute and since it was a “styled shoot”, Ashley was to dress up and have her hair and makeup done.

Everything down to the last detail was absolute perfection! We even used a blanket that Matthew had custom made with pictures of them together over the past couple of years and also Matthew’s parents’ wedding flutes for the champagne. Ashley was completely surprised and everything turned out so beautifully!
