From Posh Floral Designs… We absolutely love outdoor weddings, especially when they take place in a lush garden! Lauren and Brice exchanged vows in the expansive tulip garden at the Dallas Arboretum, and it was the perfect setting for this soft, colorful spring wedding.

Brice and Lauren chose to wait until the ceremony to see each other that day, and we were so excited about this! We love tradition, and welcomed the opportunity to capture the raw emotion as Brice beheld his beautiful bride for the first time. Lauren’s stunning lace dress paired with her classic up-do made for a breathtaking entrance! As they exchanged vows, the scent of the flowers and the chirping of birds filled the air.

The couple’s reception followed at Rosine Hall at the Arboretum. Classic, elegant and beautiful describes Lauren and Brice’s style, and the reception reflected this perfectly. It was incredibly romantic – full of beautiful candles, laughing, lots of dancing, delicious food – and simply overflowed with flowers.

One of my favorite moments of the night was just before the couple’s departure. While all the guests went outside to line up with sparklers for the newlyweds’ send off, Lauren and Brice shared one last dance, just the two of them, in the empty reception room. They laughed, kissed, and looked around, taking in the fantastic night. They were glowing and I felt honored to capture such an authentic and intimate moment.

Lauren and Brice’s wedding was nothing short of beautiful in every way possible. However, what truly made their night so wonderful were the amazing family, friends and vendors that came together to celebrate this sweet couple. We always love the opportunity to work with inspirational vendors, and we couldn’t believe the extraordinary talent that came out for this gorgeous spring wedding!

Traditional Dallas Wedding at The Room On Main

When a gorgeous traditional wedding joins forces with a non-stop party, it’s allllll sorts of awesome. Especially when that party is filled with vibrant bursts of gold, purple, pink and red hues mixed with crazy cool balloons and non-stop dancing.  Yes, this is the type of affair where the bride isn’t afraid to get up and sing.  See it all captured by Shaun Menary Photography in the full gallery.

From The Bride… Our wedding was a dream come true! The whole day was meaningful, beautiful and filled with so much happiness. Matt and I were quite involved in every detail, so it was gratifying to experience our whole day as greater than the sum of its parts. We are very traditional, but we love a fun party! In keeping with our formal side, we chose classic elements including the color scheme, tuxedos, church ceremony, music and the choir (which was the jewel of the service!). The reception incorporated more fun elements including the amazing dance band, homemade photo booth and balloons!

From Shaun Menary PhotographyNatalie and Matt are close personal friends of ours, so it was such a joy to shoot their wedding. These two are real-deal soul mates. It’s just bonus that she’s so stylish, and he’s one dapper gent. They had a traditional ceremony at the couple’s home church in the sanctuary luscious with dark chocolate wood and romantic dim lighting. Natalie has a musical background and loves choral music, so the church choir came in on a Saturday just to serenade their bride down the aisle.

The reception at Room on Main was STEMS of Dallas knocked it out of the park (duh!) on floral arrangements, and the bride did all her own calligraphy… she can do yours, too! She also had the idea of heightening the centerpieces with helium balloons (embellished with gold fringe) to fill the space to the soaring 30-foot ceilings. And that lighting on the cake table… Matt had that custom-made for the proposal! I imagine they’re doing something equally rad with it in their house now.

It was a lovely celebration of two people so deep in love and so wonderful for one another. It was a pleasure to photograph and even more of a pleasure to participate. Much love to Matt and Natalie (AKA, Mattalie) Wilson!

Urban English Garden-Inspired Wedding

After falling in love at the tender age of 17, these two sweeties began a journey that took them all the way from first date to “I do.” And when the Big Day rolled around, they opted for an affair drenched in romantic, garden elegance straight out of a storybooks. The ever-fabulous Sarah Kate documented everything behind the camera, and you can pin to your heart’s content in the gallery right here.

From the Bride… Andrew and I met when we were 17. He surprised me with my favorite candy in the glove compartment of his car on our first date, and I knew I had met someone special. On our wedding day I gave him a bag of the same candy and the Jason Mraz CD he played in his car that night as a reminder of our past and simple beginnings as we took this next step forward into the world together.

When I envisioned our wedding I knew I wanted the feeling of traditional, classic elegance while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere that felt like “us.” Hickory Street Annex provided the perfect urban setting for this vision to come to life. The Vera Wang dress I chose, with intricate layering of the peplum horsehair overskirt, gave the impression of a classic ball gown from certain angles, when in reality a sleek organza mermaid base was the true foundation of the dress. It was romantic and traditional, but with the attitude and drama to make it different (and awesome).

We chose the outdoor lawn for our ceremony hoping for good weather, and after weeks of rain in Dallas we woke up to sunny skies and 68 degrees on our wedding day. I couldn’t believe our luck! The talented team at Bella Flora transformed the blank slate of grass into a romantic, woodsy space for our ceremony. My favorite elements were the shepherd’s hooks with succulents marking the aisle and the branching trees with blossoms that created our altar.

We kept the girls’ and my bouquets loose and free formed, and the groomsmen wore their suit vests without a jacket. They walked down the aisle to “In My Life” by the Beatles, set to strings by the talented Dallas String Quartet. After my sweet 3-year-old niece made her way down the aisle, my dad and I began our walk to DSQ’s fantastic arrangement of “Over the Rainbow” – I will never forget that feeling of overwhelming excitement and gratitude for the man at the end of the aisle and the people surrounding us!

After hugs, tears, photos with the family, and a few moments of peace (and cocktails!) with Andrew, we joined our guests in the warehouse loft upstairs for dinner, dancing, and the best party! The florals were stunning with our soft color palette of ivory and blush with accents of antique gold. Our cake table displayed seven small cakes all set on homemade wooden stands of varying heights for a vintage, laid-back vibe.

Dancing started early and never took a break with Signed Sealed Delivered providing the entertainment (and the cowbell) for the rest of the night. It was easily the best night of my life, and thank goodness I changed into flip-flops for the reception! One of my favorite moments was when Andrew’s parents surprised us with cowboy hats for the family, including one with a veil for the bride! I still laugh when I see the pictures!

Big thanks to our family and friends for their support, and thank you to Sarah Kate for these stunning images we will cherish forever!

Inspired by Blush Colored Details

If we had to pick a color that was the driving force behind most SMP weddings, it would most assuredly be the perfectly soft, impeccably chic pale pink. a.k.a. blush. Have a look at this inspiration filled to the brim with that pale pink hue. Captured by Ben Q. Photography with florals by Bows + Arrows and a cake by Layered Bake Shop so worthy of a gush fest, this is inspiration that most certainly requires a visit to the gallery for more.

We recently collaborated with a few of our Dallas favorites on a Blush Inspired Wedding Shoot. We love the pastel palette and wanted to incorporate flowers in unexpected ways. We love the velvet ribbon around the bouquet and frou frou ribbon for the boutineers. Pretty blooms decorate the top of the textured cake and our bride wore a garden style headpiece.

Traditional Ballroom Wedding

Show me a traditional wedding and I’ll show you a happy blogger any day of the week.  But throw in one stunning detail after another planned by Jen Rios Design, a fab downtown setting and a bride and groom who really, really know how throw an amazing party (it’s all about the hugs, after all) and I am sooo much more than happy.  See it all captured by Day 7 Photography right here.

From the Bride… From mid-week I was surrounded by my dear bridesmaids and college friends. So leading up to the big day I was feeling very much in my comfort zone surrounded by some of my favorite people. As it passed by so quickly, I can say the day was filled with many instances of what I like to call “good” hugs, embraces that were meant to greet and also convey a deep sense of gratitude. Jeremy and I reflected on the day and all we could say was how thankful we were for all of the friends and family members that came to celebrate with us. I remember laughing A LOT, the great dance moves my bridal party busted out to seeing my father-in-law put on a pair of shades to rock out in gangnam style, I could hardly control the laughs and wide smiles. In sum, it was a day that Jeremy and I will never forget, we celebrated his 26th and became man and wife; surrounded by extremely loving and supportive friends and family (that also love to dance)!

As I began my planning, a friend reminded me that guests rarely remember the tiny details, but can remember how they felt at the wedding. So from there, my desire was to create a warm/welcoming atmosphere for my guests to enjoy the night. I wanted to add personal touches of things that are very much Jeremy and me, personal touches so guests would learn a little more about us and also feel the love of time spent on thinking out the details.

A very talented friend created custom invitations with little cartoon characters of the two of us. I carried those characters along with other pieces throughout different parts of the night; from the welcome bags, to ceremony programs and the groom’s cake. My sister created custom ice cream escort cards and table numbers (both Jeremy and I loooove ice cream)! Each table was a different color palette representing a yummy ice cream flavor. She did an amazing job! One of my favorite touches was the photo display table which featured pictures from our parents’ weddings and photos from our childhood up to now. One of my favorite adds was four pictures from my parents wedding with friends that were present at my wedding celebration as well! Our thank you table was made up of some of our favorite treats. One last minute DIY project was the moss church wreaths… a Martha Stewart inspiration. In all honesty, my wedding brainstorming began on Pinterest, but I ended up having to cut myself off as the list of to-dos and boards became a bit ridiculous. I restarted with the filter of how can I tell our story with things that are representative of us. The final product of the wedding was a great effort by my family and the assistance of my spectacular planner, Jen!

Jen Rios Designs really did a great job of bringing my details to life, adding in soft touches like spray painted gold books for the table number and gold votive holders; details that tied together the table looks. Her creative brain was a dear asset!

How to Style Your Bridesmaids’ Dresses

Hello, Pretty Brides! It’s Devon Rachel and I’m back to talk about another important step in this wedding planning process: the bridesmaids. This crazy bunch will be your support and you’ll definitely want them looking fabulous by your side. But how do you make these girls stand out in a stylish way? You’re going to have to take a step out of your comfort zone. But it’ll be fun – I promise!

When I started the search for my girls, I knew one thing; I wanted them to be in all different dresses. Let me just tell you, this was a great idea but it was extremely hard for me to find at first. I have seven bridesmaids so I assumed I needed to pick a dress from seven different collections. Wrong. So wrong.

While it would be great to find seven different designed fabulous dresses, it’s not as realistic (at least in my experience). I decided to track down a single designer who carried enough dresses in their collection to dress each of my girls (and keep me happy visually). This is one of the best tips I can give you! While picking different dresses in different designers can happen, it’s just a heck of a lot easier if you can find one designer.

I was so happy to find Amsale Bridesmaids. Out of the many designers, Amsale totally wowed me and creates dresses that feel less ‘Bridsmaid-y”. We headed to Bella Bridesmaids Dallas to get my girls fitted and ready to go. Big step off my extremely long wedding checklist? Oh yeah! Oh yeah!

Today I’m taking you along this process and showing three different ways to be different with your Bridesmaids dresses. Whether it’s different colors, styles, or textures, you’ll find some great examples and tips in this video. It features my actual bridesmaids, and I hope you love it! Make sure to visit my Pinterest and Blog for more inspiration and tips! xoxo

Arlington Hall at Lee Park Wedding

Dallas weddings never fail to wow. That’s a given. The folks down there just seem to know how to mix sweet with stylish, and they never miss the change to sprinkle in a bit of glam wherever they can. That’s why this beauty captured by Amy Herfurth Photography is making me smile from ear to ear right now, and you can join me in doing just that right here.

From the Bride…My wedding day was absolutely perfect! From the flowers and the linens to the cake and the music, everything was exactly how imagined it. I wanted my wedding day to feel like a dream with soft colors and delicate fabrics to make me feel like I was floating on a cloud. My husband and I wanted a ceremony that would mix both of our religious backgrounds – I am Jewish and he is Christain. Rabbi David Gruber officiated the cermony under a beautiful chuppa draped in delicate chiffon fabric and tied back with large bouquets of flowers on both sides. We had a ketubah which we signed during the ceremony and my husband broke the glass at the end but we also included a unity candle to represent his background. The reception was decorated with gorgeous soft pink and ivory roses and peonies with pops of pale yellow and coral flowers to add extra color. The vases we used were oversized mercury glass for the head tables making the arrangements tower over the table but be tall enough to not block the view of people having conversation. The other guest tables had large, shallow bowls overflowing with flowers. Each table had a mixture of candleabras and glass vases for candles. One of my favorite parts of the whole night was the photo booth provided by 4Flashes. All of our guests, young and old, loved sneaking in the booth for a quick pic with a variety of prop selections. We loved the photo album we got at the end of the night with little notes from our guests next to their photo strip. Our night ended at the gorgeous Hotel St. Germain in uptown Dallas. Our wedding was more amazing than I could have ever imagined!

Traditional Ballroom Wedding at The Adolphus

This, loves, is traditional elegance done oh-so-right.  The kind of magical affair where drop-dead gorgeous stylings mix and mingle with stunning florals from The Garden Gate and the breathtaking setting known as The Adolphus.  It’s what we here at SMP call “pure, unadulterated perfection” and you can see every last magical moment captured by Ivy Weddings right here in the full gallery.

From Ivy Weddings… If you asked us to plan a wedding that captured all of the elegance, regal history, and romance of Dallas, we couldn’t have done it better than Elizabeth and Justin did. The century-old romantic baroque Adolphus Hotel, once named “the most beautiful building west of Venice,” served as the perfect backdrop to their gorgeous day. With a stunning pastel floral palette by The Garden Gate and an exquisite cake and matching cupcakes by acclaimed Dallas bakery Frosted Art, all the details fell into place for the perfect expression of refined style. Elizabeth and Justin tied the knot in front of family and friends, and danced the night away to live music.

From the Bride… We rented a 15-passenger van the day before the wedding. Justin drove some of out-of-town family to the Bishop Arts district to have authentic Texas bbq and pie. They enjoyed it so much, some went back again before they flew home. On the morning of the wedding, Justin played golf with a group, including my Dad. My bridesmaids, my mom and I spent the day getting ready and watching Aggie football. After this, we were overjoyed to see that our hopes and planning for an elegant wedding had come off without a hitch. Our favorite splurges included having a live band. Justin’s favorite part of the day was saying “I do.” My favorite part of the day was getting to marry Justin, and sharing that experience with some of our closest friends and family.

Lakeside Wedding at The Filter Building

If I were to get married tomorrow, this would be my wedding.  A laid-back, yet seriously elegant affair that mixes all kinds of romance with a stunningly awesome urban setting.  It’s a gorgeous lakeside ceremony meets vibrant hues meets a whole lot of lovely captured by Sara & Rocky Photography… and it’s the perfect way to spend your Tuesday morning.  Join me in the gallery for all of the pretty.

From Sara & Rocky Photography… Hayley and Matt were wed this past summer in Dallas at The Filter Building, a gorgeous lakeside venue that creates a perfect mix of a natural and industrial setting. Hayley is an interior designer, so the details were perfectly put together. The outdoor ceremony was gorgeous with the lake as the background and all of the colors popping against the blue water. We LOVED Hayley and Matt’s laid-back, intimate wedding!

From the beautiful blooms to the adorable flower girl to the stunning courtyard ceremony, this wedding is classic beauty embodied.

From the photographer… Tiffany & Bob had an elegantly fabulous event with a strong focus on their closest family and best friends. They really wanted their guests to have a wonderful time. The ceremony was held in the beautifully landscaped court yard of the famous Cresent Hotel in Dallas. The the reception was set in one of the ballrooms with immaculate details put together by Marsha Ballard French from Stardust Celebrations Events.

The Venue At 400 North Ervay Inspiration Shoot

There’s only two days left in in this lovely little year we’ve been having, and we’re celebrating in grand style here on SMP Southwest.  I’m talking a winter meets modern photo shoot from some of the finest vendors you’ll ever meet.  Think Allen Tsai PhotographyBBJ Linens and Bows And Arrows coming together for a whole lot of magical moments styled to perfection by Keestone Events.  Get your pretty on in the full gallery.

From Keestone Events… Our goal was to have something that you don’t usually see in winter weddings. The Venue at North 400 Ervay was the perfect spot to try something like this because it is located in the heart of Downtown Dallas, and has a spectacular rooftop that could showcase the skyscrapers as a backdrop. Fun fact: It’s also a historical post office inside!

The colors of gold, silver, champagne and turquoise blue were utilized to evoke that sense of winter. However, we wanted the florals to be able to stand on its own and bring a cheerful pop to the setting as well. Bows and Arrows spared no expense and used peonies flown from New Zealand to make those arrangements! No one says a winter wedding has to only be subdued – it is a joyous occasion after all!

We also wanted to bring some elements of the indoors outside, which resulted in ES Events stringing up a chandelier to evoke that sense of intimacy and elevate the setting at the same time. The Hospitality Sweet came up with some delicious treats for the shoot. They provided hot chocolate shooters dipped in sugar, macaroons with snowflakes on them, cupcakes and a simple but elegant two tier wedding cake to tie everything together.

Those chocolate shooters did come in handy too! Dallas had a cold front come in that day and it was freezing especially on that roof which just added to the authenticity of it! Our models are newlyweds and huge troopers during this time. The bride had to have her eye make up constantly reapplied because she was tearing up due to the wind but you would never be able to tell from the pictures!

I truly hope you love these images as much as we do. Hope you are staying warm, as well!

Christmas Tree Farm Engagement Session

We’re inside the 24-hour mark to my personal favorite day of the year and that makes today almost as exciting. Happy Christmas Eve loves! And to celebrate this special day, we have an adorable Christmas tree farm engagement session from Feather & Twine Photography. I think it’s gearing up to be the happiest of Eve’s ever!

From the beautiful bride to be… Dennis and I got engaged in August 2012 and knew we wanted to have a long engagement. I wanted to give myself plenty of time to plan the wedding. We had a bit of an unconventional proposal. He took me with him to design my engagement ring because he was nervous I would not like something he picked out on his own. Then he kept telling me that he was going to play a prank on me and “pretend propose”. Then when he finally did propose I assumed he was playing a prank but he really wasn’t. So it took some convincing on his part to get me to believe he was really proposing. As soon as I realized he was being sincere, my way of saying yes was to tell him that, “If you’re really giving me this, you aren’t getting the ring back.” Being engaged is such an awesome feeling and experience. I am happy to have had 14 months to soak in this chapter of our lives. When we were deciding where & when to do our engagement photos, I knew I either wanted them in a pumpkin patch or at a Christmas tree farm. Halloween & Christmas are my two favorite holidays. We decided on Christmas because Dennis’ birthday falls on Christmas day and we thought that would make our engagements more meaningful to us later in life. We cannot wait for our wedding on November 9th!

Joule Hotel Wedding

This is what happens when traditional elegance meets just a dash of modern lovely with all kinds of romance thrown in.  A stop-you-in-your-tracks day planned to perfection by Jamie Jones with glittery gold accents (hello chevron table runners), lush florals from Bella Flora of Dallas and a whole lot of magic captured by Sarah Kate Photographer.  See them all right here.

From Jamie Jones… Lacy and Clayton were married on August 10, 2013, a hot summer day in Dallas, TX. They were such a joy to work with, and I was happy to guide them through each step of planning their wedding. They chose a classic color palette of whites and blush pinks with soft touches of greenery and gold throughout – a style I would describe as “garden chic” with some added modern touches. We included ghost chairs and a sequin chevron table runner at the head table, which worked flawlessly with their venue, the ultra-stylish and modern Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas.

Lacy and Clayton chose some of Dallas’ best vendors to come together for their big day. From the stunning (and delicious) gold-dusted cake made by Fancy Cakes by Lauren, to the always entertaining band, The Project, guests left this wedding more than satisfied. And of course, one of my personal favorites, Sarah Kate, was there to capture this beautiful day from start to finish.

This wedding had so many fun and personal elements, and one of my favorites was the invitations! We hand-stamped each envelope with colorful vintage stamps which were a fun contrast to the elegant design of the invitations.

It was such a beautiful day and I am so happy that I could have been a part of it. I wish Lacy and Clayton a lifetime of happiness!

Dallas Wedding from Shaun Menary Photography + Caroline Events

We get to swim in pretty weddings day in and day out on SMP Texas, but this beauty by Shaun Menary is one that will stick with me for awhile. It all started with the brides stunning Vera Wang gown, and then I just found myself surrendering to all the pretty from there. From the gorgeous florals by Bella Flora of Dallas to the garden reception space designed by Caroline Events that is straight out of my dreams – every last image sitting in this gallery is just beyond, and you can see them all here.

From the Bride…When we started brainstorming about our wedding and what we wanted, I began envisioning a kind of ethereal, magical fairyland or enchanted forest. Andrew, on the other hand, wanted something very modern and sleek with clean lines. So we fused those two visions. When we first visited the Nasher Sculpture Center, we knew immediately that it was the perfect space for our dream wedding. The Nasher by its very nature has already merged the modern with the magical. It achieves that through its design of contemporary sculpture set in a green garden in the midst of the skyscrapers of downtown Dallas. Andrew and I live in New York City, so we both loved that urban feel as well. What we (with the invaluable help of the incredible Caroline Fair of Caroline Events) were able to achieve was such a gorgeous fusion of our two visions. The most beautiful, lush flower arrangements by Bella Flora brought my fairyland into the city, where we all got lost in our metropolitan dreamland.

From Shaun Menary Photography…Lindsey Richards is a New Yorker right now, but she’s a native Texan through and through. So when she and Andrew decided to tie the knot, they thought that a Dallas wedding would be best, and I’ve got to say, that decision was spot-on! At first, we were mentally preparing for 110 degree weather and a sweat-fest, but thankfully this Texas summer was a mild one, and the reception venue was breezy and shady. So, it was pretty much picture perfect.

Lindsey and Andrew are a super fashionable couple, and they love modern style. The All Saints Chapel at The Episcopal School of Dallas, with its soaring vaulted ceilings, white geometric wall patterns, and generally minimalist aesthetic, was the perfect venue for their ceremony. The reception took place in the garden of the Nasher Sculpture Center, where massive modern sculptures combined with stunning landscaping framed the evenings events.

And if you couldn’t tell from the venues that this couple has some serious style, just check out that wedding dress. It’s a Vera Wang (rumored to be one of her personal favorites, actually), and Lindsey accessorized it with a headpiece from Mark Ingram Atelier in New York. And she looked stunning. Andrew was super handsome in a Hugh Boss suit.

Thanks to the couple’s awesome taste and Caroline Events’ flawless workmanship, everything from the dress to the venues to the floral arrangements embodied the essence of a classy and modern affair. It was a perfect day, a perfect couple and we are honored to have been a part of it all.

African Safari Themed Nursery

Just a few short days after booking a trip to South Africa, this adorable safari-themed nursery went and found its way into my inbox. Is it fate? It very well may be. Either way, it’s cuteness overload and I just can’t get enough. Captured by Sarah Kate, there’s more adorableness in the gallery (note: this image makes me swoon every time).

From Hawkins’ mom… When we learned of the exciting news that our little one was on the way, we decided to have a surprise baby. This is often perceived as a challenge when trying to decorate a nursery. After exploring options on many baby websites, we decided that this baby, without a doubt, would be our greatest adventure. Therefore, why not decorate by expressing those feelings throughout the nursery. While we had no idea where to start, our inspiration came from a safari and tribal mixture. There was no method to the madness other than we chose things that inspired us and one thing led to another. From the leather triangular mobile to the antlers and feather print, things quickly began to fall into place. We absolutely loved the Sharon Montrose animal prints and knew that we were headed in the right direction. Topped off with a 3-D zebra head on the wall, we were assured, who later became known as our Hawkins, would also be inspired to play and dream in a world created just for him.

Dallas Wedding from Caroline Joy Photography

This wedding is awesome; no ifs, ands or buts about it.  It’s drop-dead gorgeous with pretty blue hues, a stunning outdoor ceremony and a ballroom reception that is, in one word, amazing.  I’m talking lush florals from Haute Floral, a gorgeous Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens setting and one beautiful moment after another captured by Caroline Joy Photography.  And if that isn’t enough to have you completely hooked (it sooo is), check out the two cuties saying “I do.”  They are all kinds of adorable.  Click here for so much more.

From the Bride… On our wedding day, we knew we wanted nothing short of feelings of excitement and elegance to have a simply timeless wedding. We were excited to incorporate the Filipino wedding ceremonial traditions that I had grown up with, and our vision of having my parents and wedding sponsors in the traditional formal Filipino dress looked amazing! I am also an avid lover of flowers and gardens (not unheard of for someone getting married in an arboretum) and Kristen with Haute Floral was able to channel my vision for elegant (and plentiful!) flowers with exquisite precision.

We had so many unforgettable moments that I will truly treasure! The bridesmaids and I had a total blast getting ready on the day of the wedding and we shared some wonderful memories spending time together during that preparation time. Jeremy and I were also insanely excited about working with our ceremony musicians, Forte Strings, who came highly recommended to us as one of the top string trios in the area. Having a groom who is very passionate about music made that one of my favorite aspects of the wedding planning process, and having him so involved in the song selections including having our recessional song, “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay, mutually one of our favorite songs of all time. I will never forget standing with him after the ceremony as we stood together as man and wife next to the infinity pool overlooking the lake, such a wonderful moment that was captured by our amazingly awesome photographers! I was also happy to surprise him during the reception with a groom’s cake, which was decorated like a Monopoly game board (he had begged his parents for a Monopoly birthday cake ever since he was little) and also customized to have some representation from his favorite teams, the New York Mets and New York Giants.

You know what’s adorable?  These two.  These two sweeties celebrating their upcoming nuptials with a jaunt around downtown Dallas and one joy-filled moment after another captured by Cottonwood Road Photography.  It’s the sort of engagement session that adds just the right amount of happy to any old weekday, and fills the entire gallery with non-stop pretty.  Join me there for more.

From Cottonwood Road Photography… Abbey and Ian are simply the perfect couple. The way they adore each other shines through their photos! Sharing snow cones at Klyde Warren Park, gorgeous waterfalls, little black dress, this shoot has it all. This gorgeous engagement shoot is modern and glamourous. The couple is beautiful, the scenery urban and sleek. We all had so much fun with these engagements and I cannot wait for their beautiful wedding in January at First Baptist Church in downtown as well. This engagement session is simply beautiful in it’s uniqueness and urban charm.

Texas Ranch Wedding from Sarah Kate, Photographer + Elle Films

Late last night, when I first opened this gorgeous wedding from Sarah Kate Photography, I was reminded why I will always, always love weddings. Weddings like this one that truly make me stop and click through every gorgeous image in their gallery because I feel like I am missing out if I don’t. Missing out on the perfectly ranch chic fête planned by Jordan Payne Events, the perfect florals from Jordan Payne Events or the delicious (in every sense of the word) cake from Sugar Bee Sweets. But it’s the little moments in between all that pretty that really tug at my heart strings, and you can see them all right here.

And you definitely don’t want to miss this sweet film from Elle Films

From the Bride… Katie and Chris met in July of 2005 on the open sea. While cruising with their families, they happened to book the same snorkeling excursion. They immediately hit it off and hung out the rest of the cruise, playing dodge ball, basketball, card games, rock-climbing and exploring. Despite Katie attending school in Fort Worth, and Chris in Lynchburg, Virginia, the friends stayed in touch for years. Not long after they had both graduated, they decided to take their relationship to the next level. Chris had moved to Seattle and Katie back to Dallas. Their long-distance relationship continued a little over a year before Katie decided to move to Seattle, and the rest is history.

In February 2012, Katie, Chris and some family escaped the cold north and said Aloha! Little did Katie know, months before, Chris had traveled to Dallas to ask Katie’s parents permission to marry their daughter. Of course, they said yes, and Chris designed the most beautiful ring, made by a local jeweler. Once in Hawaii, the couple woke up early one morning for a run, but Chris had something else planned. He suggested they go to the beach to watch the sun rise and take some pictures. While having fun with the self-timed camera, Katie went to go find a fun prop; Chris already had his. When Katie returned, Chris was on one knee with the beautiful ring and asked her to marry him. She was so excited she screamed and accidentally threw her “prop” stick at Chris. He survived the attack just in time to hear Katie say “YES”.

The overall theme and design for the evening was ranch chic, incorporating Katie’s love for color, the outdoors, the succulents and sunflowers. As Katie and Chris both love nature, and it is a big part of their lives in Seattle, natural elements were incorporated into the decorations, while still providing an overall romantic and feminine touch. The wedding was held at Katie’s family ranch about an hour outside of Dallas.

The groom, a self-proclaimed baby face asked his groomsmen to grow beards as soon as he and Katie got engaged. For 9 months these men diligently fostered quite a showing of facial hair just for the wedding. They shaved during the reception and then presented a “gift” of their shavings to the groom!

Bishop Arts Street Wedding from Shaun Menary Photography

Growing up in small-town Montana, block parties were a serious staple of my childhood.  Our little city would shut down Main Street, set up some food booths + a stage for a band and dance the night away underneath the stars and historic buildings.  It was awesome.  So hosting a wedding in that exact same setting like these two lovelies? Pretty much genius… and the perfect way to celebrate “I do” with all of your fun-loving friends and family.  It’s a block party to the extreme, and you can see every last awesome moment captured by Shaun Menary in the full gallery.

From Shaun MenaryMatt and Stacey Spillers originally wanted a rooftop wedding, but when the city denied the permit, the couple did what anybody would do… move it to the street! Matt owns the Spillers Group, a family business responsible for a few prominent restaurants in the Dallas area, one of which is Eno’s Pizza Tavern. On March 16, Matt and Stacy shut down the block in front of the restaurant (with the blessing of surrounding shop owners, of course) and said “I do” under a branch arbor erected smack dab in the middle of Bishop Avenue! The unsuspecting, yet pleasantly surprised Bishop Arts patrons who stumbled upon the nuptials lined the sidewalks to observe smilingly and snap a few cell phone photos. The local folk band Fox and the Bird serenaded the wedding guests from atop a flatbed trailer hitched to a vintage truck, and then the couple and their guests spent the rest of the evening dinin’, drinkin’ and dancin’ in the street.

Matt rocked a dapper Ted Baker suit, and Stacey was absolutely stunning in her ballroom gown, vintage jewelry, and tastefully pink lipstick and nail polish. And in lieu of a traditional wedding ring, she wears a vintage sapphire family heirloom. I mean, this couple has some seriously delightful style!

Stacey and Matt’s wedding completely embodied the spirit of the Bishop Arts district. Eno’s, which has become a staple of the neighborhood, prepared the food, and a local brewery, Four Corners, brought a unique beer brewed just for the occasion. Each table decoration was a unique assemblage of flowers, succulents, bottles and wood chips designed just a few doors down by Dirt. The festivities were flanked by the storefronts that give Bishop Avenue its character, all kind of like one big unique, artsy, homegrown, happy family!

This wedding was truly beautiful and unique, and it was such a pleasure to work with Matt and Stacey.

From the Bride… We didn’t really want to worry about the details; we just wanted to enjoy the process. So we carefully chose our vendors, got to know them really well, and then just handed all the creative authority over to them. Also, my husband was heavily involved throughout the whole process, and because of that, I felt like the wedding wasn’t just MINE, it was truly OURS.
