Intimate + Romantic Dallas Spring Wedding

As soon as I saw this gorgeous Bride’s bouquet, I knew I would love the rest of her wedding, and I definitely do. The soft gray and blush color palette, the unique geometric floral arrangements and the classic cake from Sugar Bee Sweets Bakery (with a hidden Iron Man logo for the Groom!), this Spring wedding, captured by Ben Q Photography, is completely lovely. See all the pretty in the gallery.

From Ben Q PhotographyLindsey and Trent had the sweetest Texas Spring wedding. We loved their laid back style. The wedding felt intimate and was all about gathering their closest family and friends. They kept their colors light and airy with light greys and warm pastel floral. The reception was held at a winery and had a romantic vibe. Trent is an Iron Man competitor so we loved how they snuck in the logo behind the wedding cake but visible to their guests in the mirror behind! The reception felt like a gathering of friends and family instead of a stuffy event with indoor and outdoor spaces for connecting.

Dreamy + Romantic Dallas Garden Wedding in Shades of Pink

This wedding and I, well, it was love at first sight. It started the second I saw the abundance of florals—the Bride’s demure bouquet of blush pink peonies, the twin flower girls’ pink jasmine flower crowns and the whimsical rose, tulip and dogwood centerpieces. And when I saw how in love the couple was, my fate was sealed. Seal yours and see all the beauty from Apryl Ann Photography in the gallery.

From Maxine Owens…. Our design process starts with really getting to know and understand the key element in the event: The Bride!  We love spending time with our brides and couples to get to know them as people, who they are, and what they want their guests to experience and feel at their wedding.  There are the basics, like colors, types of flowers they like, but we’re really interested in finding out what elements are special to them and what makes them unique as a couple.  Creating a custom design that helps them express themselves and share that with their guests is our ultimate goal.

Upon meeting Sara, we immediately fell in love with her overall vision for her wedding.  Together with Birds of A Feather Events, we created a dreamy floral concept for a classic garden look focusing on the natural elegance of whites, creams, and greens with pops of delicate blush.  When designing, are alway inspired by our brides’ wedding venues and why they select them.  Sara is a librarian and opted for an historic mansion with large, mature trees and lush green courtyards.  The stately house features influences of English Georgian and French Renaissance styling.  We aimed to continue this aesthetic through our choices of floral in order to create a consistent and seamless design.

With her neutral color palette, we combined soft, delicate blooms such as peonies, sweet pea, and garden roses with bold dark pops of black scabiosa and black and white anemones for definition.  Since Sara loved a garden feel, we combined these blooms with different textured greenery.  Camelia, gunni eucalyptus, spirea, and clematis foliage are some of my favorite greens to use.  And we couldn’t resist a little bit of trailing vine, so we definitely needed the gorgeous blush and white jasmine as an accent.  Putting these elements together in a loose, organic composition helped create that timeless garden feel she was looking for.  We accented the bouquet with hand-dyed blush and ivory silk ribbon from Froufrou Chic as a final romantic, feminine touch.  And thank you to Apryl Ann Photography for capturing Sara and her bouquet so perfectly!

Organic + Elegant Historic Home Wedding

When a librarian marries a scientist you KNOW it’ll be an affair chock-full of smart details. Especially when said Dallas fete is packed with wooden engraved coasters, an on-site poet, and plenty of organic details. It is – without a doubt – a lesson in love and one scroll through the gallery from Apryl Ann Photography shows you exactly what I mean!

From Apryl Ann PhotographySara and Josh, a librarian and scientist from Chicago, were married on a Saturday afternoon in the historic district of Dallas. Their wedding was filled with elegant and organic details such as the silk and willow ribbon tied to each individual wooden engraved coaster. Or the arch made of cream and white florals. And because Sara is such a word worm, they had a poetry maker there typing up mini poems on a typewriter based on what the guests wanted.

Elegant + Organic Wedding in Texas

Thinking about a short engagement? Take this couple, who managed to pull of this elegant affair with only 5 months to plan. Using inspiration from the outdoors, the simplistic nature captured by Shaun Menary Photography is what makes it all the more special. Graced with Sugar Bee Sweets and a Candlelight Films, you can see the entire day unfold below!

From the beautiful Bride… Adam and I met in June 2014 through mutual friends at Watermark Community Church. July 24, 2014 was our first date which started with coffee and ended with dinner 4 hours later. That same Saturday we planned to hang out for a bit which turned into a 12 hour adventure. We sat under a tree at White Rock Lake. We both knew we wanted to get married. Official dating followed shortly after that. As we began to share our passions, our purpose and the redemption we have both experienced through Christ we were confident Christ had a purpose for our relationship. December 3, 2014 Adam took me to dinner. After dinner be handed me a notebook with character traits he saw in me that would be beneficial in marriage. As I read them I knew… We arrived at the same tree at White Rock where we first learned so much about each other. Adam asked me to marry and I of course said yes. Thankfully our families and friends have been incredibly supportive.

My planning experience was short and sweet with only 3.5 months to plan. I could not have done so without Adam’s constant encouragement and support. We looked at two venues. With such a short engagement most everything was booked. We decided on a Sunday evening and loved our venue. Food and beverages were decided upon based on the venue. We chose a baker that one of our friends had just used for my cake. One of Adam’s buddies baked his gig ’em cake. I ordered my dress online and was able to try it on and return it if the size didn’t work. I ended up only trying on two different styles. I was familiar with the florist and loved their style. I had very little to do with the florist other than our first meeting to give an idea of what I liked. Our DJ was recommended by a friend in my community group. I didn’t seek many options but went with my instinct. We sent save the dates out via email and quickly picked our wedding invitations.

Our design inspiration came from the outdoors. I like the beautiful simplicity that natural gives. We didn’t have many extras as far as decoration. Our wedding was outside so we didn’t need anything more than each other. Inside for the reception I know I wanted banquet style seating and Edison lights over the dance floor for the main effect. There were simple green runners and votives along the tables. We used sustainable bamboo plates and sliver flatware. I liked the combo. We stuck with simplicity.

The first meaningful detail of our wedding was that our grandmothers took the place of the traditional flower girls. I wanted to follow in the foot steps of women who have done marriage well for the past 57+ years. My youth pastor officiated the service so having him walk us into one of the most important seasons of our lives was great.

For brides currently planning their weddings, I would say don’t make engagement long. Everything that is necessary can get done quickly so don’t stress. Your wedding day will be perfect regardless of small glitches along the way. I’m so thankful we didn’t have time to spend on things that we would not have remembered. There are endless possibilities and options for a wedding but don’t weigh yourself down. Take time weekly to spend time with your fiancé make a point to not talk about the wedding. Don’t lose site of the purpose of the wedding. For us that was to resemble Christ’s love for the church and to vow to pursue that same self sacrificing love Christ demonstrated. Everything will get done and if it doesn’t, it didn’t need to be anyway. Enjoy this season! You can learn so much about your fiancé.

Most importantly, have fun! Your wedding is just the beginning. Marriage is so much more than a dress, cake, flowers… Those things make the wedding day so special and important which it is and should be! So, enjoy the planning and all that it entails. Adam and I think marriage is a big deal and wanted to celebrate that. The best advice Adam and I have received was from my Papa who has been married to my Nana over 60 years. He told us to “try hard everyday”. Enjoy this season of engagement and look forward to the many years ahead. Marriage is awesome!

Elegant Downtown Dallas Ballroom Wedding

From the dramatic steps to the Corinthian stone columns, the portico of the Dallas Scottish Rite Temple stole our hearts. This wedding’s a delight for the eyes, thanks to talents like Significant Events Of Texas and Erin Blair Make Up & Hair Design. But our favorite thing? How adorable and absolutely in love the couple are. See all the special moments, captured by Anna Routh Photography, right here.

From Anna Routh PhotographyErin and Zach are two of the most wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of photographing. Not only are they just so easy going, but they love each other and their friends and family so immensely. The joy on their faces throughout the day was so evident and so amazing. They were so excited to join their lives and their families and it showed. Erin and Zach chose the historic Scottish Rite Temple in Downtown Dallas (where they live) to tie the knot. The setting could not have been more perfect – the regal front porch, the stunning ballroom and all the details were just on point. Erin and Zach had a beautiful time celebrating with their friends and family, and it was such an honor for me to be able to capture their bond.

There’s nothing I love more than fresh flowers. So much so, that every week, I buy myself a bouquet to keep on my desk at work because they make me smile. But my desk flowers have nothing on these gorgeous blooms from Bows and Arrows photographed to perfection by Heather Hawkins. I’m completely smitten, and you will be, too, after a peek through the gallery.

From Alicia of Bows and ArrowsThis one-on-one intensive floral workshop with Adri of Moss Floral was devoted to teaching the mechanics of composition and designing natural, garden-esque floral design. We began with covering flower crowns and bridal bouquets, both adorned with Frou Frou Chic ribbon, and then learned to create floral installations, centerpieces and table setting. Our student Adri styled her work with our model Tea and worked with photographer Heather Hawkins to capture it in the best light and composition. Adri was an amazing student with so much talent, and left the workshop with a greater knowledge and passion of flowers, new techniques and tricks and her first photoshoot experience.

From the beautiful Bride… March 14, 2015 was an absolutely beautiful, blissful blur of a day! I married my sweetheart, my best friend, on a slightly cooler spring day. Although it may have been overcast, nothing could have dampened our spirits! After a fun day getting ready with our BIG wedding parties (and much awaited anticipation), Marc and I met down in a dreamy sunken garden for our first look. It was truly magical! From the moment I locked eyes with my love, nothing else mattered. All nerves went out the window, and the only thing I could think about was how excited I was to marry this man!

I walked down the aisle, arm in arm with my daddy, to see 200 smiling faces of our closest family and friends. But it was the smiling face at the end of the aisle that made my heart leap. We had a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony officiated by Marc’s brother in a picturesque garden. After we said “I Do” (and kissed a few hundred more times) we were off to celebrate! Our reception was the biggest, best dance party you could imagine! It was filled with great food, great design, and even better company. At the end of the night, when everyone lined up around the corner to send us off with rose petals and well wishes, we had our private last dance. That moment struck a cord in our hearts. We danced to our favorite slow song, reflected on the night, and had a moment of pure bliss to ourselves under the stars and twinkling café lights. I couldn’t have dreamt up a more perfect wedding day!

My style inspiration was classic, romantic, and organic. My hair was down and draped over one shoulder, how I usually wear it, and my makeup was natural. I chose a simple, yet stunning lace Kelsey Genna wedding gown. The custom top featured romantic draped lace sleeves – my favorite part of the dress! For the ceremony, I wore the gorgeous Opaline Sash by Ranna Gill for BHLDN, Petite Crystal Drops by Kenneth Jay Lane for BHDLN, Lianna Mesh/Satin Embellished Booties by Badgley Mischka, and the romantic Sky Mist Veil by Debra Moreland for BHLDN. For the reception, I switched it up by exchanging the belt for the gorgeous Twigs & Honey Baby’s Breath Crystal Hair Vine for BHDLN.

We chose the breathtaking Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens as our ceremony and reception venue, which reflected our organic, al fresco style. All in all, we could not have had the wedding of our dreams if it wasn’t for all of our amazing vendors. Not only are they some of the best in the industry, but they became my best friends, too. I absolutely love them all, and we are so thankful for all of their hard work and incredible talent! It made our wedding a true fairytale!

Dallas Spring Garden Elopement

To me, this celebration is the ultimate “big wedding vs. elopement” compromise. With just four months to plan, the bride and groom opted for a sweet, simple, nearest-and-dearest-only morning “I do” at the charming Dallas Arboretum with Tracy Enoch on hand to capture. The Southern Table provided the loose, organic bouquets of the bride’s wedding dreams, and as for the full gallery of pretty? We’re only just getting started.

From The Bride…Jason and I met in June of 2008 while working together in Dallas, TX. I was home from college and took a summer job at the store where Jason was employed. I was immediately infatuated with him. He’s the most charming, hilarious, and lovable person I’ve ever known. A couple years later, I graduated, and we finally started dating! A little over 3 and a half years of dating later, Jason proposed on Christmas Eve 2014. We had been talking about marriage for over a year, but I was still completely surprised!

As soon as the whirlwind of engagement died down a little, I was overwhelmed by the idea of planning our wedding. We highly considered a destination elopement, but we finally determined that Dallas was the city that brought us together and we couldn’t imagine exchanging vows anywhere else. We still wanted the intimate feeling of an elopement, so when I found The Poetry Garden at the Dallas Arboretum, I knew it was the perfect venue for our ceremony.

A little less than 4 months after our engagement, on April 17, 2015, Jason and I were married! The flowers were in full bloom and the weather was especially gorgeous. We didn’t see each other the day before the wedding, but we chose to do a first look in order to calm some nerves and have a moment alone before the big event. At the first look, we exchanged cards, and I gifted Jason his grandfather’s watch. His grandfather passed away last year, and I knew that Jason would appreciate having a reminder of him at our wedding.

Jason’s uncle officiated our Friday morning ceremony as our eleven guests watched on. A string-duo serenaded us in the secret garden while my dad walked me down the aisle. Jason and I shed a few tears of joy as we exchanged our vows- It was the first time I’d ever seen him cry! I’ll never forget that moment. After our ceremony we all celebrated with mimosas, brunch, and our favorite strawberries ’n cream cake.

After we got engaged, Jason assured me that his only request was for me to have the wedding of my dreams. My vision for the wedding was elegant, organic, romance. Due to our short timeline and minimal budget, I decided to DIY our wedding invitations. With a background in art, I chose to watercolor our wedding stationary. I wanted to allude to the garden setting without being too feminine. I tore the paper edges for an organic touch and lined the envelopes with a subtle metallic paper. I addressed our envelopes using watercolor paint and a brush. Finally, vintage stamps completed the look I was going for.

My 3 bridesmaids wore long, flowing, neutral-toned dresses and carried beautiful organic bouquets in a subtle blush ombre. I wore a modern (rented!) Nha Khanh gown with flat embellished sandals and my mom’s diamond earrings. Delicate ribbon cascaded down from my luxurious bouquet of peonies, ranunculus, and garden roses. Our amazing florist, Maxine Owens of The Southern Table, completely mastered my floral vision. I swear everything she touches is magic!

Photography was of upmost importance to me since I work in the photo industry as a fashion art director. When I met Tracy Enoch, I knew she was the perfect fit for us. Tracy shoots primarily film photography, and I’m so in love with the natural light and nostalgic feel she was able to capture in our images. Best of all, her personality is just as lovely as her art!

Our wedding was even better than we could have imagined. We feel so blessed that it went off without a hitch, and we are so glad it didn’t rain as the weather report predicted! We are thankful for all of our family, friends, and vendors who made it so perfect. It was an unforgettable day.

SMP Blogger Bride: A Dash of Details’ Gets in Shape for Her Big Day

Hi Brides! It’s Ali from A Dash of Details here again to talk about something every Bride thinks about: working out. Every Bride wants to feel their best on the inside and out on their Big Day, so I am here to share a few tips on how I am getting in shape for my own wedding! But let’s be honest, it is much easier to get motivated with friends by your side.

If you are anything like me, I get so bored doing the same workout day after day. I love to workout – especially take classes – but I always have a hard time committing to just one studio. My friend Natalie started Studio Hop for just this reason. With her help to keep me motivated, these weeks leading up to the wedding we headed to three different studios for a good sweat and a lot of fun.

I found that pilates has been a great workout for my body. It is low impact, strengthens your core, elongates your muscles and helps you tone in all of the right places. It doesn’t hurt that Pilates Methodology is located in the most darling renovated old house.

The next day, Natalie and I headed to City Surf Fitness. Any workout that has you laughing and sweating at the same time is a win in my book. Just imagine great music, high cardio and balancing on a surf board. It is definitely a recipe for a great workout.

We needed a day to rest after City Surf, so Natalie and I decided we would try two workout classes at Burn Cardio. Boy, we sure got a great workout thanks to an amazing instructor. Spin and Yoga are a great combination of workouts. We first started with a high intensity spin class with great jams, strobe lights and cardio off the bike, and then headed into their yoga studio for some strength and stretching. This studio really has it all!

We had such a fun week with our girlfriends, and the three different workouts allowed me to feel like I got a full body workout. I am starting to feel great on the inside and out! Also, cute workout clothes always help!

Staying motivated each week can be tough, especially when you are busy planning your wedding. Just remember that working out is a great stress reliever (even if it is just 20 minutes a day) and it always helps to have a partner to hold you accountable. It is also a great distraction from my busy day and a little friendly competition is always fun!

Good luck getting in shape! Remember, it’s a must to feel great on the inside so you will shine on your Big Day! I know you can do it!

From the Bride … My husband, Davy, and I met in college at Texas Christian University. He was a baseball player and I was a cheerleader. We will both tell you it was love at first sight! We began dating the summer after our sophomore year in 2010. In February 2014, we went snow skiing for the first time together with some friends in Colorado. On a sunset snowshoe tour the day after Valentine’s Day, he proposed to me on top of a mountain with my best friend capturing it all on camera. I was in total shock! We immediately started talking about when we would get married.

Since we had been together nearly four years at that point, we really didn’t want a long engagement. We both love the fall, especially since it can be so beautiful and pleasant in Texas. So that’s how we decided to get married in November. I had always pictured my wedding in the fall in Texas, complete with a stunning fall palette and breathtaking flowers. Chandor Gardens is a breathtakingly beautiful private estate with sprawling gardens. The property belonged to a painter and his wife, and the gardens were his gift to his wife. It’s the perfect love story and we knew right away this would be the place for our garden wedding we had always dreamed of. It was also the perfect size for accommodating our 130 guests.

Because I knew I wanted a fall color palette, I fell in love with mocha for the bridesmaids’ dresses, which is pretty much a cross between gray and brown. The dresses would contrast the flowers perfectly and it’s a color that looked flattering on everyone. For the guys, we went with wheat-colored suits. They were the perfect complement to the bridesmaids’ mocha dresses, as well as the outdoor backdrop we were working with. The suits weren’t too casual or too formal. They were perfect!

For our flowers, I chose a true fall palette with our florist, Justine’s Flowers. They turned out beautiful and I heard so many compliments about how stunning the flowers were. She created a blend of sunflowers, wine red roses and a blend of other fall colors that turned out just wonderfully. I cannot express how pleased I was with the flowers.

Our ceremony included a string quartet, which truly helped set the mood. I walked down the aisle lined with white rose petals. We said our vows upon a rock staircase with our friends and family looking on. Behind us was a fountain, which strategically erupted as we exchanged our first kiss as husband and wife. It was truly magical. Our reception took place right around the corner behind the home in the garden area. The circular tables were scattered around the garden, some under the pergola, and some in the open garden. They were set with burlap and lace runners atop white tablecloths. The centerpieces were beautiful black lanterns with tea lights and champagne bottles dipped in gold glitter for a bit of bling. The DJ and dance floor were set up under a huge tree and everyone danced the night away. For the departure, our guests lined the pathway and sent us off into the night with sparklers, which was such a magical experience. We hopped into a brand new black Maserati and drove into the night as husband and wife, our lives forever changed.

Elegant + Organic Garden Inspired Engagement

In my humble opinion, when it comes to florals – the more the merrier. Especially when Gro Designs crafts said florals into one stunning runner atop La Tavola linens. Blooming with ethereal elegance and romantic charm, this inspirational shoot from the lens of Charla Storey is so stunning that my words alone won’t do it justice, so we’ll let the pictures speak for themselves!

From Gro DesignsThis shoot was inspired by the cascading floral and soft spring colors!

The GRO designs creative team is excited to share this Engagement shoot that marries two of the most popular wedding styles for 2015, garden elegance with organic-natural, while bringing along some of our favorite people and companies we work with to tell that story.

The newly renovated Sixty Five Hundred in Dallas, was the perfect space for our creative director, Nathan Johnson, to dream up this tablescape with muted shades of peach, lavender, pink, and white floral. The defused lighting in Sixty Five Hundred was captured perfectly by the talented Charla Storey through digital and film photography. Charla’s attention to detail and stylizing of this shoot enabled us to capture the intimacy and story we wanted to tell through our models, Clare Selig and Andrew Coates who are engaged to be married later this year. Clare, elegantly wore, a spectacular evening dress by Jenny Packham from Stanley Korshak. Following suit with our GRO weddings, many of the details were inspired from this elegant dress. POSH Couture’s rich green, pink, and gold rimmed china along side their silver and gold flatware were perfectly placed on blush, ruffled LaTavola linen. The texture of the linen was complimented by layers of white hydrangea that frame the dramatic floral waterfall designed by our talented team at GRO. Garden roses, tulips, ranunculus, sweet pea, jasmine, and hydrangea were all represented which happen to be many of our favorite blooms at GRO. Last but not least, the paper details by Natalie Grace were the perfect and final touch to our story.

“Will You Be My Flower Girl?” Shoot

Growing up, I always wanted to be a flower girl and this next pretty is exactly why. Setting the gorgeous groundwork by sprinkling pastel petals, our favorite “floral fairies” are downright darling. From their flower crowns to the sweet signage, one look at this seriously adorable gallery from the lens of Nicole Berrett Photography and every Bride will be wishing for their very own petal princess!

From Nicole Berrett PhotographyTo start, a beautiful “Will you be my flower girl” card made on recycled paper by Southern Fried Paper is the perfect spot to set the tone of the cuteness that is to come for the little ones in the wedding!! I just LOVE floral crowns, especially on flower girls! The Southern Table made each of their crowns a little different to show off their own personalities & to compliment their lovely hair done by Beauty & the Blush!

We know not all weddings would have an entire table just for the flower girls, but how fun if a bride decided to do this!! They had their own custom laser cut “Flower Girls” table sign & pretty little place cards marking their spot :) And their own desert table with specialized mini cakes, and macarons for them to enjoy!!

Colorful Garden Soiree

From Napa Valley to Hill Country, this couple wanted a rustic yet regal soiree that incorporated their roots. With plenty of personal details, like sentimental antler accents to wine boxes and barrels throughout, every aspect redefined romance. Sarah Kate snapped a gallery filled with jewel-toned Jenny Yoo gowns and gorgeous Elan Hair And Makeup moments, and it’s all waiting for you here!

From the Beautiful Bride… Brad and I met while working together for a money management firm in Dallas.

We got engaged while on a trip to New Zealand. Brad planned a helicopter flight to see the back country of New Zealand and after seeing both lakes and beaches, we ended on a glacier where he proposed.

Brad grew up in San Francisco and I grew up in the Hill Country so we though a Napa/Hill Country theme would represent our lives well. We had antlers and wine boxes as well as wine barrels throughout the ceremony and wedding. My favorite touch was the antler chandelier that my dad made for us which was hanging over the cake table.

I would not change a thing about our wedding. Every detail was perfect. We were able to truly enjoy our night to the fullest. Every aspect was perfect!

My dad made an antler chandelier that we hung over our cake table which was stunning. We also had a very good friend play live music and sing for our first dance. My dad came and personally hung the stained glass that made up the alter piece the day of the wedding. We plan to hang the stained glass in our home after the wedding.

Our head table seated almost 40 people and was spectacular with candles, flowers and antlers going down the entire length.

Being a daddy’s girl I would say my favorite moment was having my father walk me down the aisle.

DIY Dallas Wedding at Three Three Three First Avenue

I am totally blown away by this Bride. She whipped up a DIY wedding that is equal parts beautiful and thoughtful, and I honestly don’t think it gets better than that. From the invitations to the floral vessels (and every sweet detail in between) she created a wedding that is packed to the gills with personality, and thanks to Shaun Menary Photography there is more to see here.

From The Bride…Our wedding weekend was such a meaningful, beautiful and fun celebration of our relationship and the many people who are a part of our lives. We have been best friends for almost 10 years, so we were fortunate to have a solid group of friends that were excited to celebrate with us. For us, that was what the whole weekend was about, so we really kept that as a focus the whole time. When things didn’t go as planned, we reminded each other of that and were able to stay calm for the most part. We also asked our close friends to hold us accountable during that season.

I had not spent much time thinking or dreaming about our wedding day, so when we got engaged, I had to kick it into gear! The first 2 weeks were the toughest, and I try to tell everyone that. Once you get your major vendors/venues booked and outline your budget, it gets much easier from there (or at least it did for us!) We talked about the top 2-3 budget items that were important to us: for me, it was the design details, the band, and the photography; for him, it was the band, the photography and the food/alcohol. So, it made it easier on us to know where to splurge and where we could shave some costs. It also helped us pick our battles during the planning process.

Since I was probably most excited about the design details, I will tell you more about the ones that I really loved! I designed our save-the-dates and invitations myself, and I hand painted each invitation with a watercolor wash. While I am grateful that I never have to do that again, I loved adding a personal touch on each person’s invitation and the way people appreciated the love and care that went into their invitations. I also did all of the lettering on our envelopes, chalkboards and place cards. It was fun to see all the things I had worked on come to life, and our guests loved how the event felt like “us.”

Another detail I particularly loved was the way we incorporated our family and friends into the day. For our ceremony, we had minister friends officiate, sing and speak. One of our friends Allyson Wermelskirchen is a spoken word artist, so we asked her to perform a piece in the ceremony based off the scripture we used. The lyrics to her poem are now hanging in our house and will be special to us forever.

Perhaps my favorite detail was the floral arrangement vessels. My mom gathered antique silver pieces that have been in her family for nearly 100 years. Many of the pieces were golf trophies that my grandmother and great-grandmothers had won throughout the years. We took the pieces of all shapes and sizes to our florist, and they created the most beautiful, special arrangements using them. We are so grateful that they loved the idea and took on the added challenge with excitement.

DIY is not for everyone! But, I loved how many details at our reception made it feel personal. Find a few ways to insert details that make the day “you” and not just a pinterest board! If you go DIY, include your future spouse, friends and family in the process. It makes for some great memories, and they feel like they were a part of the celebration. My rule of thumb was if it was more stressful than it was exciting, cut it. I applied that to everything! Also, once you get to game time, just let it all go and trust your vendors/participants. What will happen will happen, and it will be lovely.

From the beautiful Bride… Matt and I met when I returned to Dallas after college through the service organization, Teach For America, and he was attending SMU for business school. We instantly had a strong connection talking about our love of travel and good food. After three years of dating, living in different cities for a year, and buying a house, Matt proposed in Hilton Head, South Carolina during a summer getaway.

As an art history major, I always loved going to the beautiful Nasher Sculpture Center, designed by Renzo Piano. After getting engaged, we knew the sculpture garden at the Nasher would make a wonderful reception venue. The Sculpture Center is only a block away from the church that Taylor grew up in, where the ceremony was held. We used the art museum as the inspiration for choosing many of the wedding details including organic, sculptural vases and using a photograph of one of the museum’s signature pieces in the wedding invitation. We would especially like to thank our wedding coordinator, Meredith Commender, amazing photographer Sarah Kate, and wedding vendors Dirt Flowers, Wolfgang Puck Catering, Southern Fried Paper, Dallas Affaires Cake Company, and BBJ Linen.

The wedding day was truly the happiest day of our lives. We were thrilled to have so many close friends and family come to Dallas to celebrate the beginning of our lives together. My favorite part of the day was when I got to see Matt for the first time at our “First Look”. I was overcome with emotion at the significance of the day and how lucky I was to find such an incredibly kind and supportive partner. Matt’s favorite part of the wedding was when the venue was cleared out at the end of the night and we had one final dance together in the garden, just the two of us.

Whimsical

From The Bride…The simplicity and beauty of fall florals is what inspired our wedding. I’ve always loved the color of fall portrayed in flowers. Fall colors and flowers are really beautiful just on their own, so having them be the main theme/decoration was easy because they don’t need anything but themselves to stand out.

Our colors were all based on fall flowers. We wanted to embrace the colors of fall in with deep reds to whimsical Texas wildflowers. To incorporate the fall colors we used a backdrop for the ceremony for Yeti and the Beast that had beautiful bunting with fresh garland and florals. For the reception we used potted plants as the centerpiece and Dirt Design added vintage bottles with stemmed flowers around it for a little added touch.

I was surprised by how little we had to DIY for the wedding because we kept the florals and centerpieces simple. We dip-dyed all of our wooden forks to add a little pop of color to the dining ware.

The centerpieces were the most difficult decision for me because I didn’t want to spend a fortune on flowers that I can’t use or put to use after the wedding. So, thanks to Pinterest, I got inspiration to use potted plants for the centerpieces so my husband and I could make a garden after the wedding. The week of the weeding the bridesmaids and I went shopping for herbs, succulents and potted plants at Home Depot and potted them the day before the wedding to ensure they were fresh and healthy!

My favorite part of the day was right after the ceremony. Noe and I got the holding room all to ourselves for just a few moments. It was so peaceful and refreshing to just have some time together, uninterrupted to celebrate our marriage before anyone else came in. It is also a feeling like none other to know that all of your dearest family and friends are all in one place to celebrate you and your husband! I kept thinking, “everyone is here, EVERYONE!” It was such a sweet feeling!!

Romantic Pastel Copper Inspiration Shoot

If you were to ask me what my daydreams looked like, I’d instantly show you this exact shoot from Kayla Barker. Overflowing with heavenly blush blooms by The Southern Table and copper accented Southern Fried Paper, it’s metallic minded pastel perfection. So if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be in this gallery for the rest of time.

From Maxine of The Southern TableFor this inspirational shoot, we wanted to create a soft, feminine garden feel. The historic Aldredge House was the perfect setting to put together this team of great vendors. We chose to feature romantic tones of blush, whites, and peaches, paired with classic white marble and copper elements. Southern Fried Paper’s gorgeously refined invitation suite with copper letterpress set the tone for an elegant evening.

Our stunning model, Gabrielle, was glowing with upswept hair and natural makeup by Ladonna Stein, and so ethereal in BHLDN’s Vivienne gown. This Catherine Deane dress, which is the most delicate shade of pale grey, was a perfect compliment to the beautiful white and grey marble vases in the table scape. Here, we chose soft garden roses, dahlias, ranunculus, anemones and astilbe to pop against classic white linens and modern ghost chairs.

Overall, we think the effect create a light and airy look and a sense of subtle sophistication. The finishing touch was the gorgeous hexagon cake with classic white fondant by Layered Bake Shop, displayed on a white marble stand. Kayla Barker captured all the magic perfectly and will definitely inspire brides with her stunning images.

Jason Kennedy & Lauren Scruggs’ Dallas Ballroom Wedding

When we got a look inside Jason Kennedy and Lauren Scruggs’ LA engagement sesh, I was convinced it couldn’t get any better. But then the crazy talented Kat Harris and Lindsey Shea sent along their wedding, and I instantly changed my tune. It’s a day filled with deeply personal moments and out-of-this-world design by Todd Events, and you can grab a front-row seat in the gallery right here.

From Kat Harris PhotographyWhen I think of Lauren and Jason I think of depth, authenticity, laughter, and power. What is amazing about their love is that individually they both have passion to be a positive voice in our culture, and together the power they have to be leaders in our world is endless. (Not to mention their love is completely infectious!)

Their wedding day was flawless. Surrounded by their family and community they celebrated what God has done in their lives, and their journey towards forever. Lauren was so full of peace and so grounded that day, and Jason is always a ball of energy and such a light.

From the beautiful Bride…Magnolias in May-the mindset I had when planning our special day. My husband is from Georgia and my family is from Virginia so I really wanted our wedding to reflect our Southern roots. One of the best words of wisdom we had prior to our big day was to truly savor every moment, which is why we tried to truly embrace all the special moments of our day.

My husband and I chose not to do a first look, however I embraced that modern tradition and did a first look with my daddy (Pops). It was a moment full of joyful tears and our sweet photographer Sarah Kate had to stop numerous times for me to get it together for photos. I couldn’t look at Pops without becoming a blubbery mess, our bond is truly one of a kind.

My husband and I have alternated planning surprise date nights every week nicknamed Hot Tuesday ever since our very first date. It was such a fun way to explore our new city [Dallas] and motivated us to plan fun dates around the city. I fell in love with Ross through all the surprises and so I really wanted to plan a big surprise for him on our wedding day. All of our family and friends are familiar with our date night and our good friend that married us even mentioned it in our ceremony.

Ross went to The University of Georgia and to say he is a bulldog fan would be an understatement. I wanted his surprise to be something really memorable to him as well as something fun for our guest to enjoy. The Rabun Bourbon Bar was the perfect addition to make our wedding truly personal. It was so much working with Caroline Fair, Fauxcades and Southern Fried Paper to create the surprise. My daddy built the frame for the sign the week of our wedding-sweet man!

My husband and I snuck into the ballroom during the outdoor cocktail hour so I could reveal his big surprise. It was a great way to kick off the evening and our guest [especially the Georgia fans] loved personalized bar.

When I met with our florist I explained to her, I knew nothing about flowers but wanted magnolias and peaches to bring our Southern roots to Dallas. My husband’s family is deeply rooted in Georgia and I wanted to symbolize both of our families becoming one on that day. Branching Out Events surpassed our vision for our Southern wedding, trophies filled with peaches, magnolia foliage welcoming guest to our cocktail hour and mint julep cups reminisced for a perfect Southern Saturday.

Our friends and family love to dance and Cuvvee brought down the house. We danced the night away closing with an intimate last dance to truly savor the evening.
