DIY Wedding on Block Island with a Watercolored Gown

Watercolor details are fast becoming a wedding world darling and this Bride has embraced them with open arms. Painterly tid bits are woven throughout the day from the stationery to the dress – yes, that gorgeous gown crafted by her fashion designer Mom is indeed watercolored – and to say it’s a beauty is a gross understatement. The whole affair is a fusion of approachable, fun elegance captured by Katie Slater Photography. See it all here.

From Katie Slater Photography…Julia and Jonathan are one of our favorite couples of the year! They totally win the award for “cutest, most laid back, totally madly in love couple of the year” if there is such a thing. This wedding is filled with DIY touches made by the bride. The girl water colored everything she could get her hands on….including her custom made silk ballgown! She’s such a free spirit. You’ll want to be her bestie as soon as you see these pictures. Speaking of….this. gown. It’s to die for. It was lovingly created by her fashion designer Momma! We can’t stop looking at it.

From The Bride…I’m not a formal human being. Jonathan is a bit more proper than I am, but also generally really jovial and easy-going. So, having a big wedding and keeping it approachable and lively and equal parts elegant and casual was our biggest goal. I didn’t want anything to feel put on. (Though having said that, I am extraordinarily particular, visually, so I wanted to perfectly curate all of that informality. Now you’re probably getting a sense of my particular brand of insanity.)

From the beginning, I was in pretty deep on the whole DIY thing. I’m fairly hands-on, generally, and I also felt that if this was going to be a big extravaganza, per my husband’s wishes, I wanted it to feel as personal as possible. This was a celebration of our life together with our most-loved-ones; I wanted my own hands on every single inch of it.

I knew almost immediately that I would paint my dress, so I was testing various paints and dyes on different kinds of washed and unwashed silks before we even had a venue. Secretly from my husband, of course. Interestingly enough, he never asked why I had so many paints when I am not a painter.

I then designed our Save The Dates and decided to hand-letterpress them. This did not go quite as planned, so I ended up blind embossing and then hand-inking each one. This was my lowest point in the process, probably. But! It led me to the wonderful people at Coeur Noir when it came time to print our invitations. I was so psyched that I got to work with such an amazing hometown business and they executed my designs beautifully, while walking me through a lot of specs and details very patiently.

I water colored and did the calligraphy for each invitation’s envelope and designed a return-address stamp as well. Designed/calligraphied/drew the welcome letter, map, and menus. And then subsequently did the calligraphy for the top of each (pre-printed) menu. And also the table assignments. Man, looking back, that was a lot of paper.

We also put together little welcome baskets in those lovely teal berry containers and dropped them around the island. Block Island’s signature cocktail is a banana mudslide, so Jonathan and I (and a couple AMAZING friends) put together small bottles with mudslides, and added them to the baskets with a banana, some Cape Cod chips, and water. Again, I water colored the bottle labels. Oy.

I made a morning-of decision to buy all the mason jars I could at the local grocery store (I don’t think anyone even knows I did this), which I then handed to my mother and her amazing friends, along with scraps of leftover rose-gold sequin fabric from my rehearsal dinner dress. They put together our votive holders with the jars, sequins, and extra fabric from my blush-colored veil.

I’m trying to think if there was anything else we did beyond the piles of paper. Do the globe lights I bought online and then forced my family to hang day-of-wedding count? I did also write a song for Jonathan that my younger sister and father performed during our ceremony. Music is not really what you think of as DIY, but… well, I did do it myself.

I feel so materialistic saying it, but the dress reveal was SUCH fun. My mom is a designer and we’ve been trading ideas on my wedding dress for years. The shape was modeled on a 2008 Oscar De La Renta dress that I’ve loved forever, though we rounded the neckline, inspired by another gown she had done. That original Oscar dress had had flower apliques as well, and I think those played a big role in my ultimate desire to paint. Designing, making, and painting the dress was such an amazing mother-daughter experience and one I wouldn’t trade for the world. And (per my mom’s prediction) when Jonathan saw me walk down the aisle, he give a great big laugh. That was the best.

Ethereal Backyard Wedding

These ethereal nuptials set the bar high for backyard weddings. Even if you aren’t surrounded by the splendor of small town Rhode Island, it’s hard to go wrong with charming invitations from Paper Moss, scattered wildflowers, and rounding the night out with some pie a la mode. Keep scrolling for some stunning images from First Mate Photo Co. For more find the full gallery here.

From First Mate Photo… Galen and John were married on a gorgeous summer afternoon in the beautiful seaside town of little Compton, RI. The wedding was held at the bride’s parents home. Their wedding had a gorgeous, rustic yet ethereal quality to it. Galen looked stunning in her Jenny Packham gown. The couple’s nieces and nephews were their flower girls and ring bearers and were absolutely adorable in mini boden dresses and pink bow ties. There were so many children that the couple decided to have a table for just the kids. They all received gift bags with fun goodies in them to take home and to keep them entertained during the festivities.

Wood walls were built to hide the tent poles and to display pictures of the bride and groom as children. Tables were covered in wild flower arrangements and mismatched napkins and plates. Escort cards were put in a planter box that was full of flowers. The evening was full of dancing and heartfelt toasts from family and friends. Pie and ice cream for dessert.

Beach Chic Watch Hill, Rhode Island Wedding at the Ocean House

My very own wedding was at the Ocean House in Watch Hill, so whenever I lay eyes on another couple lucky enough to tie the knot in that beautiful place, I can’t take my eyes off. Particularly when it is as beautiful as this one captured by Lauren Halvorson Photography. Every image is worthy of this couples’ most special frame, and you can see all of this beach beauty here.

Colors

From Lauren Halvorson Photography Sarah and John Eric love being together in their boat on the water, so there was no place more perfect for them to tie the knot than Ocean House in Westerly, Rhode Island!

One night in college Sarah decided to venture out with two of her best friends (and later bridesmaids) to a party where she met this cute guy who would later become her husband. The funny part is, when he gave her his number she couldn’t remember his name for the life of her, and ended up storing it under the wrong name for a long time! Once they got that sorted out, they managed to fall in love and that’s where this story begins. On Fathers day of 2012 Sarah made plans for them to visit his parents in the morning and hers in the evening, but John Eric had another idea. He wanted to take her out to an elaborately planned evening including a fancy dinner so he could propose to her, but she wasn’t having it. After a bit of back and forth he gave in and just did what she wanted, visiting both sets of parents and then coming home. When they were home, he dropped down on one knee and asked her to be his wife, saying that this wasn’t at all as he had planned it, but she ruined all of that, and he didn’t want to wait another day to ask her to be his wife so he decided an intimate proposal at home would be perfect.

Sarah remembers spending their summers out on the boat in the Watch Hill area, and one of her favorite memories is how Ocean House puts their flag up to symbolize the start of summer. With her favorite moments of their relationship all being in that area in the summer time, and the special place Ocean House held in their heart, they KNEW that’s where they wanted to get married! According to Sarah and John Eric, the best part of their wedding day was having all of their family and friends, many who had never visited the area before, all together in their favorite place: Watch Hill!

A Jane Austen English Manor Inspired Wedding at the Aldrich Mansion

Classic at its very core yet contemporary at the very same time, this wedding at the stunning Aldrich Mansion is the perfect blend of chic and totally heartfelt. With images from Twah Dougherty so lovely you feel like you were there, and not a detail left unturned, this gallery is just the most wonderful way to spend your day. See it all here.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/72618373 600 338]

From Twah on the Wedding of Thai-Anh & Elvir….I loved that Thai-Anh had a very clear vision for her day which stems from her love for Jane Austen and all things having to do with the English Manor lifestyle. She brought that entire concept into her wedding while infusing a contemporary vibe throughout. The wedding was romantically refined yet relaxed and jovial. The event started outdoors to take advantage of the beautiful scene. As the soiree moved indoors, guests were ushered from room to room throughout the evening to make use of the beautiful mansion.

From the Bride…Since I first read Pride & Prejudice when I was young, I had always wanted a countryside English manor wedding. I thought, “What would Elizabeth Bennet want if she was in our era?” I think she would most likely want an understated, elegant wedding that is chic and modern for her time. When Elvir & I first visited Aldrich Mansion in Warwick, RI, I was instantly in love with the gorgeous view and beautiful intimate rooms. I knew our guests would love to explore the many rooms and it felt more like a home.

For our wedding inspiration, we wanted a refined elegance that was reminiscent of an English Manor lifestyle yet contemporarily understated. We didn’t want too much to take away from the stately home so we chose shades of greyish blues and incorporated lace to compliment it.

We wanted to incorporate both our cultures, Bosnian and Vietnamese, into our special day. We had customized Macarons flavored in Bosnian baklava and Vietnamese coffee for our guests as a takeaway treat. The dessert room had various desserts including ones stemming from both our background. I made sure to have an ice cream bar for the children and myself.

It meant a lot to me to involve my family and friends during the planning process. My Aunt made my veil. My cousin who is a dress designer, Aurelia Hoang from France, created my getting ready robe to complement my wedding dress. My bridesmaids each got to design their own dresses and I picked out fabrics from Moods in NYC. My cousin, Amy Dao of Amy Dao Design, created all of the bridesmaids and flower girls dresses. My cousin and friend from Love Letters Production filmed my special moments. My best friend from high school who is a professional opera singer sang “Vivo Per Lei”, as I walked down the aisle. We talked about this since high school and I am very glad he flew in from London to do so. My close friend, Paul Bullard, from Bullard & Xenides Interiors, helped provide design insights and coordinate my special day. When I look back on day, there is not one thing I would’ve done differently!

Old Hollywood Glamour Ocean House Wedding

A tented seaside wedding is a New England classic and this Ocean House fete dressed in old Hollywood glam has stolen my heart. With a lineup of crazy good vendors behind all the pretty (True EventHana Floral Design and Paper Moss, just to name a few) it’s no wonder I’m smitten. See the whole lovely gallery from Leila Brewster and don’t miss Elysium Productions heartwarming film!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/72479807 600 338]

From Sarah of True EventThis was one of our absolute favorite weddings to work on with one of the most amazing couples and families. When we started, sarah knew exactly the direction she wanted to go with an old hollywood theme and that is what set the tone for the design and details of the wedding with the most perfect backdrop set amongst the Ocean House.

We built her color palette with soft blush tones, carrying shades of cream and wove in a mix of metallics and black and white. This palette was the foundation for a very sophisticated, elegant, romantic, timeless event.

No detail was missed from the custom paper suite to the 5 foot crystal chandeliers that hung throughout the tent, custom fabric paneling, black and white dance floor, leather lounge areas, sequin linens, silver pattern china, black chivari chairs, custom welcome bags, dell’s lemonade, two bands that rocked well into the night and the exclamation point to the festivities a private fireworks show that lit up the sky over the croquet lawn. It sure was a night/weekend to remember.

Nautical Chic Newport, Rhode Island Wedding

Newport weddings make my heart sing. Newport weddings at the Newport Yachting Center with this amount of chic? They make me want to jump out from behind my desk and do a happy dance. It’s perfectly sweet with just the right amount of sophistication, making every image snapped up by Mikhail Glabets sitting in this gallery simply divine.

From the Bride…From the time we started planning our wedding together, Jay and I knew we wanted to get married in Newport (where we met, got engaged and now live together)! My husband is a photographer and so I left the final decision of hiring the photographer to him. We had many contenders but one day while perusing SMP we came across Mikhail. Once Jay talked to him and had a look at his portfolio we knew he was the right choice for us. Most of the other details fell pretty easily into place. Planning the wedding in the town where we live made it easy for us to meet with vendors and make choices pretty quickly. We decided to get married at Salve Regina University where Jay is currently getting his MBA. They have a beautiful Catholic chapel that could accommodate our wedding size perfectly. Jay’s childhood priest Father John Prusaitis was kind enough to make the trip down to RI to marry us. We were able to spend some time with Father John this summer during our wedding preparations. It gave him some time to get to know me and get reacquainted with Jay. Sharing our special day with Father John was an important part of our Wedding Day.

Planing our wedding was an emotional process for me especially, as my mom passed away from Breast Cancer in 2011 so I definitely missed having her by my side during this special time. Luckily, I had a wonderful maid of honor (my sister) and great bridesmaids to help along the way!

The most difficult decision for me to make was choosing wedding gown. While my mom was sick we made a point to watch “Say Yes to the Dress”, so that in a way we had a chance to look at gowns together. It was important to me to get an idea of what my mom would have liked to see me in on my wedding day. When it came time to choose my gown, I thought I wanted a traditional lace gown, but after trying many dresses on I ended up choosing a sparkly Lazaro fit and flair. This was definitely my mom’s influence as she loved sparkly things! Once I put the dress on I just knew it was my dress; my mom would have loved it.

I met Jay shortly after my mom passed away , so she never had a chance to meet him. I feel that she had a hand in us meeting, but I still wish she had a chance to get to know the man I will spend the rest of my life with. We incorporated my mom’s memory into many of the design aspects of our wedding. She loved hydrangeas, so our Florist Paul helped to build our vision incorporating hydrangeas into my bouquet, the center pieces and and all of the cocktail tables. I created our menu cards and ceremony programs as a DIY project including hydrangeas on the back of the program with a note honoring my mom. Jay and I also made our escort cards by hand; together. I ordered wooden anchors from Etsy and painted them all navy blue with silver writing, they doubled as Christmas Ornaments for guests to take home. We incorporated Jay’s talent for Photography by providing matted photographs of Newport as gifts for our guests at the end of the night. After all the preparations for the wedding, our weekend went flawlessly. It was a feeling like no other to have friends and family surround us with their love as we exchanged vows.

During the maid of honor speech my sister talked about many things she felt my mom passed on to us. My mom always loved traditions and my sister shared one from her husband’s side of the family that night. They have a hat that is brought to every wedding, the hat is passed around during the reception while people are dancing. There was a great picture of mom from my sister’s, sister in law’s wedding. She brought the hat to our wedding to continue the tradition and everyone had a blast passing the hat around the dance floor.

We took just under 10 months to plan the wedding of our dreams, and it went by in the blink of an eye. We now how have the rest of our lives to spend together making memories and traditions for our own family.

Classic Spring Wedding in Newport

I stared at this wedding for a long time before putting it up in lights. Because every little detail is class. Pure, unabashed class. From the images of the bride standing so beautifully in her gown to the perfect florals tucked into cut crystal vases and the moments of pure romance on the beach at belle mer, it’s all so beautifully done. And thanks to photos Melissa Robotti … there is so much more to devour.

From the bride...Adam and I met on our first day of college at Georgetown University and were friends right away. Love came a few years later and grew beyond graduation, despite careers in different cities and stints on separate continents, to a life together in New York City and a down-on-one-knee proposal in the West Village streets. Looking back after ten years together, who would have known that the boys I met at a campus party on my first night as an undergrad would someday be standing at an altar as my husband-to-be, wedding officiant, and groomsmen?

A long-time lover of all things wedding, I was thrilled but a bit overwhelmed in deciding on a style for my own big day. While Adam and I live in Manhattan, we spend any chance we can at his parents’ home in Rhode Island. We are a little bit big city, and a little bit sleepy seaside town. I have always gravitated toward a romantic, vintage style, but also find a more modern look with a crisp color palette and clean lines appealing. When we found Belle Mer, it was as if someone had mixed all of these elements into our planning bowl and baked it to a warm and bubbly wedding perfection. Add to that the wonderful times that Adam and I have shared in Newport over the years, and we were sold.

We decided on a color scheme of neutral tones to highlight Belle Mer’s ethereal elegance, with just a few pops of color and soft-hued lighting to echo the sunset views over the Narragansett Bay. The bridal party’s attire and accessories tied in the seaside feel, with eight bridesmaids in blue chiffon gowns and one ‘usher-ette’ in green. The groomsmen and ushers wore black tuxedos accented by simple paisley pocket squares coordinated to the color of the maids. Each bridesmaid wore a different piece of hand-made jewelry in emerald and aqua tones, and for the reception I changed from pearl drop earrings to a pair in a shade called ‘Bermuda blue’. We were so lucky to have a beautiful April day to top it all off. The sky and ocean were maybe the best accessories we could have asked for!

The building blocks of inspiration for the reception decor were found in, well, building blocks: the colors of the fireplace in Belle Mer’s Water Salon set the tone. The invitations, flowers, and table linens were designed to mirror the white fireplace and its champagne accents. Our incredible florist, Toni Chandler, created soft, romantic arrangements that brought a vintage twist to the contemporary space. Antique silver bowls and trays filled with garden roses in shades of white and ‘latte’, white hydrangea, tulips, and sweet pea were the perfect complement to tall, clean white balustrades topped with puffs of baby’s breath. Bud vases and candle holders in mercury glass, silver, and crystal were focal design elements decorating the fireplace mantle, stairway balcony, and tables.

For me, treasured elements of the wedding are those that incorporated family traditions and ‘something borrowed.’ The stems of my bouquet were wrapped with Alencon lace from my mother’s veil, and I wore the antique white-gold watch that my grandfather gave to my grandmother after their engagement. In my dressing room was a photo of my mom’s bridesmaids getting ready on her wedding day that I always used to admire as a little girl. During the ceremony, the grandmothers presented our wedding bands on family heirlooms – my ring tied with a champagne satin ribbon to the prayer missal that both my mother and grandmother carried down the aisle on their wedding days, and Adam’s to the prayer shawl that he and his grandfather wore for their bar mitzvahs. The wedding ceremony incorporated both Christian and Jewish influences to mix our different faiths, my favorite being seven secular readings delivered by family and close friends to represent the Seven Blessings read during traditional Jewish wedding ceremonies. We even cut our cake with the same silver knife my parents used on their wedding day.

My mother, sister, and I planned the wedding weekend together (with the assistance of incredible vendors!), and I have their boundless creativity, impeccable sense of style, and careful attention to detail to thank for bringing this dream to life. When I think back on the months leading up to the big day, I remember a series of opportunities to share this exciting time with those most important in my life: dress shopping with my future mother- and sister-in law … picking out registry items with three generations of the women in my family … the endless back and forth that my sister tolerated to help me select nine Amsale bridesmaids gowns that would ‘go’ but not ‘match’ (bless her for knowing exactly what I wanted but couldn’t articulate throughout this entire process) … and the one-woman event designer, baker, sewer, calligrapher, and printing press that is my mother (Programs? No problem. Place cards? Sure. All with individually hand-cut edging? Cake.).

A wedding is first and foremost about the love between two people starting a life together, but it is also about families celebrating new bonds. Our goal was for this love and energy to shine through all the details of the day, and Adam and I could not be more grateful for the amazing people that supported us through the process of becoming Mr. and Mrs.

Fall Wedding at Sweet Berry Farm

I want to live inside this wedding forever.  Seriously.  I want to wake up every day surrounded by those gorgeous florals from Greenlion Design, the breathtaking landscape that is Sweet Berry Farm and the DIY details so expertly crafted by an adorable (+ uber-sweet) bride and groom.  And if Alixann Loosle is on hand to capture it all in amazing images, well… my life is complete.  See it all here.

From the Bride… When my sweetheart Sam and I got engaged in April 2013 while hiking in Iceland, and decided to get married that October, we knew we wanted our wedding to reflect our passions and the values we share.

We love being outside and experiencing nature, so we knew our reception location had to be a rustic, outdoor venue where our guests could experience the beauty of fall in New England. We chose Sweet Berry Farm for its picturesque orchard rows, abundant autumn produce, and colorful surrounding foliage. I wanted our wedding to feel as organic as possible, so everything was kept natural and unmanicured: fallen apples were left on the ground; all florals were locally-sourced and in-season; chairs and tables were built of reclaimed Rhode Island barnwood; and the flowers in my crown were found on a nearby roadside.

As many things as possible we made ourselves; from the favors to the programs. What we couldn’t do ourselves, we outsourced to small businesses and artisans. We also wanted our wedding to reflect our desire to live in harmony with the living things around us. All of the food and desserts, my dress and shoes, the bridesmaids’ dresses, Sam’s suit and bowtie, were made without harm to animals or people.

With grad school starting just a month before, I relied on many wonderful wedding professionals throughout the planning process to achieve my vision for our special day. Thanks to their support and expertise, our wedding turned out to be a perfect reflection of our shared passions and the life we are building together.

Block Island Wedding

Block Island weddings are magical, that’s a well-known fact.  But when you combine a breathtaking setting like Block Island with vibrant pink peonies from Blazing Star Farms and a sweeter than sweet duo, it takes that magic and kicks it up a notch or two.  Think a darling puppy and nautical stylings throughout.  See every gorgeous moment captured by Olivia Gird Photography right here.

From the Bride… I was never the little girl who dreamed about her wedding, but I always knew it would absolutely be on Block Island, where I had spent my summers from birth. It became a special place for Jack and I as well during the course of our relationship, and a place we were excited to share with all our friends who had never seen it. Danielle Dziok at The Spring House made everything supremely easy, and we had a lot of fun planning. More than anything we just wanted the wedding to be fun, both for us and for everyone attending. We tried to incorporate both of our backgrounds into the ceremony, and also included details throughout honoring Block Island as well as Philadelphia, where we met and our home for four years.

When the big weekend rolled around, a full-on tropical storm hit Friday afternoon just as everyone was trying to get on planes and boats to head out to the island. Some people got stranded and we were crazed trying to help with contingency planning for everyone, but once our guests made it to the island they were that much more excited to be on dry land with a beer in hand. The morning of the wedding was glorious, and though it was touch-and-go during the ceremony, by the end of the evening it was positively balmy! We had such a blast with all our family and friends (including our dog, Rosie) laughing and dancing the night away. Six months later we still talk about how much we wish we could get married all over again, we had so much fun.

Rustic Narragansett Wedding

If you’ve ever wondered why we can’t seem to get enough of gorgeous Rhode Island weddings, here’s your answer: their awesome.  And this pretty little Narragansett affair from Details With Love and Adeline & Grace Photography?  It’s a little bit rustic, a little bit romantic and soooo heartwarming.  In other words, it’s the kind of wedding that takes your regular Wednesday and kicks it up a notch.  See it all here.

From the Bride… Our ceremony and reception were filled with lovely details perfectly executed by Details with Love and beautifully captured by Adeline & Grace Photography. South Ferry Church was a rustic and simple chapel that we always dreamed of. By adding seasonal flowers on the pews, potted plants and antiques, we were able to maintain the rustic charm while making it reflect us as a couple. The Towers is such a natural and beautiful iconic venue that encompasses everything we love about Rhode Island. We saw it as rustic blank slate and decided to personalize it by bringing in a variety of details. One of our favorite details was definitely the custom chandeliers from Ryan Designs that were brought in and hung from the beams. When the sun went down and the venue was lit up at night, the chandeliers added a romantic, elegant feel to the room.

The flowers by Sprigs were another favorite detail of ours. Instead of having a centerpiece in the middle of each table, we had an ongoing tablescape across the long Tuscan tables with a mix of seasonal florals in creamy ivory and blush, tied together with gold table numbers, metallic wrapped favors and mercury glass vases and votives. In addition to all the tablescape, there were so many other details that tied the reception together. We had wedding photos of our parents on their wedding day and a variety of custom made signs for our photo booth, bar and dancing shoes. The custom backdrop Candid Photo Booth designed was a beautiful blend of blush satin ribbons and metallics. The photo booth provided endless fun and entertainment and was a huge hit with our guests. And when the reception was over we had a sparkling send off through a sea of lit sparklers held by all the people we love.

Navy + Gray Mount Hope Farm Wedding

I’ve really grown to love the “Warming of the Rings” that’s come into vogue recently. Everyone “warms” the rings while thinking a sweet wish for the happy couple before they exchange their vows. It’s no surprise, based on their beautiful wedding with blooms from Sayles Livingston Flowers, that these two choose to incorporate this tradition. Every last stunning image from Erin McGinn Photography is right here!

From the photographer… Cate and Will’s early fall farm wedding was a delight to capture. Will’s family is from England so when touring venues in Cate’s home region of New England, the couple knew they had found the right place when they arrived at Mount Hope Farm and the same sheep from Will’s grandmother’s farm were meandering around. An emotional ceremony full of happy tears and a ring warming (where each member of the bridal party held the couple’s wedding bands and gave them special wish) took place in the garden. Afterwards, in the barn the couple hosted a traditional New England clambake to give guests from out of state and across the pond a taste of the East Coast.

From the stunning bride… We knew we wanted to be married somewhere special, and as soon as we saw Mt Hope we fell in love! It’s absolutely perfect for what we wanted – casual, romantic, New England to a T!

My sister and mom completely planned and decorated the shelves in the barn as a surprise for Will and I (as well as our guests!) With help from family from all over, there were precious photographs of the most special people in our lives. It really made the space feel very personal.

We instantly fell in love with Mt. Hope as soon as we stepped foot on the property, but it was the small details that made the decision even easier. Will’s granny, who lives in a small country town in England, even has the exact same breed of sheep as Mt Hope farm! The “Hunter” sign on the fireplace was made by my cousin Kate and given to me at my bridal shower.

DIY bits — the swags on the back of the bride and groom chairs, the chalkboard table numbers, my sister made the framed quote sign as you walked into the ceremony space.

The “warming of the rings” was my favorite part of the ceremony.

Block Island Wedding at the Spring House Hotel

Have you ever been to a wedding where your heart just wanted to burst out of your chest because you were so darn happy for the two people tying the knot? Well, that’s just how I felt when I watched Cheryl and Ben say I do. Thanks to their team of ridiculously talented vendors (including True EventHana Floral Design and Jennie Fresa) their day was just as perfect as they are, and every fabulous moment captured by my dear friend, Leila Brewster, is waiting for you right here.

From the Bride..Ben and I are beach bums during the summer. We both grew up spending our summers on the Atlantic Ocean in our respective beach towns in Rhode Island and New Jersey. Over the years I’ve adopted his Rhode Island beach town as my own which helped our decision to get married on Block Island.

Not having any experience with planning weddings, I immediately contacted my good friend and wedding guru Abby Capalbo for help. She knew this email would be coming her way years in advance and immediately put me in touch with Sarah of True Event and Leila of Leila Brewster. Ben and I didn’t know specifically what we wanted we just knew we wanted our wedding to be relaxed, elegant and most of all fun. Sarah knew exactly what we were looking for and created a theme and feel that was perfect for us and somehow made all these ideas come to life. She proceeded to connect me with a group of vendors who I refer to as the A-Team because they were all simply the best.

We chose green and white with pops of yellow for our colors just because green and yellow are our favorite colors. They ended up complimenting The Spring House with its enormous green lawn. Yumiko of Hana Floral went above and beyond by making all the flowers classic yet wild which really added to the casual elegance of the whole day.

Leading up to our wedding we knew we would be happy through out the day but we were both surprised by the sheer elation we felt the entire time. Leila and Mike of Buzz Media Company somehow captured that happiness. Our wedding was far and away the best day we’ve ever had.

Whimsical Campground Wedding

There are so many things about this beautiful campground wedding that I simply adore. So many sweet details that have stolen my heart. But the one thing about every one of Zac Wolf Photography’s images that sticks out to me is the love. It’s so strong and so warm and so welcoming, this gallery feels like a great big, happy hug.

From the photographer… This Whispering Pines wedding was special. Not in a filler word way, but in a real, real way. So many things created the beautiful symphony that was this wedding. First off my relationship to Kyley started when I photographed her older sister’s wedding a few moons ago. And then a year ago I was at Whispering Pines photographing my great pal Dylan’s wedding, on top of all that Kyley had asked my girlfriend Becca to provide some cookie mixes as favors for this wedding. Everything was just amazing. We had beautiful weather for this camp wedding. The day began with Kyley having her makeup done by her sister, and it ended with George and Kyley kissing by the campfire. My kinda day, my kinda wedding

From the Bride… When Steve proposed to me just about a year ago now, it was a complete surprise, and I had not even begun to think about what our wedding might look like. Although I absolutely love parties and generally all things beautiful, I am not the kind of person who grew up ever dreaming about weddings, much less my own. Steve and I met and fell in love in an unexpected place, and during what was probably the most difficult time in my life, when I lost my beloved mother to cancer just a few short months after we started dating. Since then, Steve and I have been inseparable. We found the strength in each other to face every new challenge, and after just short of a year of dating, we knew we didn’t want to wait any longer to spend the rest of our lives together.

As we started planning, the most important thing to us was that, above all, our wedding be an intimate, personal and honest expression of our love. We are so lucky to have had our pick of a number of beautiful destinations which were meaningful in different ways, and we ended up choosing a beautiful home owned by our dear friends, which sits atop the famed Cliff Walk overlooking the beach in Newport, Rhode Island. Steve and I had spent some wonderful summer weekends there when we first started dating, and it is a place where we have many special memories with our closest friends and family. Newport was also an amazing weekend getaway for our guests, many of whom had never been!

We were so honored to have friends from all over the country join in our celebration, including the maid of honor at my parents wedding 31 years earlier, who is now a judge, and graciously agreed to officiate our marriage. The ceremony always came first in our minds, and Steve and I spent hours compiling each remark and reading in the spirit of our life together. We also both wrote short letters on love, which we did not share until we read them aloud in front of everyone during the ceremony. We ended with the exchange of rings and the breaking of the glass which is a Jewish tradition we felt was very symbolic to our relationship. As we kissed to become man and wife the sky was a perfect blue, the sun was glistening across the ocean, and we really felt my mother was present with us in that moment. I remember the ceremony quite vividly and it was hard to hold back tears, smiles and laughter through our incredibly personal vows – it was very much us. Although we know our friends will not soon forget the epic party that ensued, it was the ceremony we hope will stick with them for many years to come, as it was certainly a labor of love. The ceremony took place just before sunset so our guests were able to enjoy a magical cocktail hour overlooking the spectacular view across the ocean.

As we pieced together the wedding in the months leading up, I spent countless hours researching and interviewing vendors whom I thought would best understand and embody the spirit of our wedding – I wanted it to be a classic black tie affair worthy of the exquisite venue, but with a very personal, non-traditional, and fun loving vibe that made it very much our own. We worked with our stationary designer to create a personalized cipher that was featured on our invitations and throughout the wedding on programs, menus, napkins, matchbooks, swizzle sticks, and even a set of “corn hole” for the lawn. The tent décor was simple but elegant, including rustic farm tables, lush white and green centerpieces, mercury glass candles, and hand-made wrought-iron and crystal chandeliers which were designed especially for our event. It was also important to me that my mother was as much a part of our wedding as possible, so in addition to honoring her during the ceremony, I wore a custom-designed hairpiece made from her vintage wedding dress, and a diamond necklace and bracelet that had belonged to her.

Steve and I both came up with our own signature drinks (“The Kansas City Slicker” and “The Cape Cod Catch”) which were served during the cocktail hour alongside a fabulous raw bar where oysters and littlenecks were shucked to order. With the help of our incredibly patient and talented caterer, we were able to completely customize our ideal menu combining a little bit of New England (where I grew up) with a little bit of Kansas City (where Steve is from), which resulted in an appetizer of local heirloom tomatoes and burrata, followed by a fabulous New England lobster pot pie served with a seared KC strip steak. We had our wedding cake delivered from Momofuku Milk Bar, our favorite bakery in New York, along with their fabulous cookies and famed “Crack Pie” which were arranged on a beautiful dessert table to complement our caterer’s homemade whoopee pies and double fudge brownies. The wine was hand selected by my father and shipped directly from The Frank Family Vineyard in Napa, including a very special rouge champagne, which was my mother’s favorite. We didn’t feel the night would be complete without passing both Dark n’ Stormy and St. Germain Champagne JELLO shots around the dance floor, accompanied by hand-picked Cuban cigars offered on the lawn.

In addition to the food, the music was hugely important to us, and we kept in theme with something unique to our taste (although perhaps not typical for black tie) with a steel drummer playing during the cocktail hour, and an incredible 10 piece band for the reception that kept our guests on the dance floor the entire night playing everything from Frank Sinatra to Calvin Harris. As a surprise grand finale, some very gallant (read brave!) groomsmen had teed up fireworks on the beach directly below the lawn which were set off as just everyone emerged from the tent for a sparkler exit. The sky lit up over the ocean in a way I didn’t think was possible – it was truly beyond my wildest dreams. We had a delicious local taco stand set up a stand on the lawn as a late night snack before we all made our way across the property to the beautifully bistro lit carriage house, where the after-party festivities continued with a DJ, a keg, and customized cups and koozies to boot!

Somehow we were able to get all of our favorite things, and all of our favorite people in our favorite place for one epic celebration that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. For a girl who never spent a moment in her life daydreaming about being a bride, my wedding was nothing short of storybook perfection. Steve and I are grateful from the bottom of our hearts to all the amazing vendors, friends and family who made it all not only possible, but possibly the most perfect night of all time.

Bristol Wedding at Blithewold Mansion

This wedding is perfection.  The kind of perfection that combines soft pink hues with lush florals from Richard Carbotti, a sophisticated (+ stunning) Amsale gown and a tented Blithewold Mansion reception that is all kinds of magical.  In other words, it’s one seriously pretty party and you can see it all captured by Rebecca Arthurs right here.

Brendan and Lauren met seven years ago at Bentley University and could not of had much more in common, from family upbringings to lifelong goals. It doesn’t happen everyday where you find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with at the age of 19 and your sophomore year in college. Brendan had planned to study abroad his second semester, so the timing was not great as Brendan thought he would have the opportunity to study abroad as a single man! Plans changed as we went abroad leaving his love in Boston and Lauren visited him in London and the two lovebirds traveled to Paris together. This was only the beginning of their long love story together!

From when the bride was a little girl, she always knew she wanted a fairytale wedding that would be romantic and ethereal in feel for both herself and her guests. Having the bride’s godfather marry them during their ceremony only touched the tip of the iceberg for the personable touches. It was as important that all of their family and friends that meant so much to me had the most intimate and amazing experience which had many in tears as they shared their self written vows and joined with their guests in a “Warming of the Rings” ceremony, their guest were able to bless their rings with loving thoughts.

It could not have been more clear how important family was with all of the little touches and even a first look with both the father-of-the-bride and groom! While getting ready, the bride had so many “old” components, from the garter that her mom had made from her wedding dress to the handkerchief the bride would carry that her grandmother made to the bracelet that her mom let her borrow. The most touching was on the bride’s bouquet where she had a grandmother’s handkerchief wrapper around then with the other grandmother’s brooch attached. Even the groom wore the bride’s grandfather’s cuff links!

The photo’s of the both parent’s wedding day were displayed for guests to view along with a cigar bar that the father-of-the-groom put together himself! All of the inclusiveness, love, and family made this wedding inspirational.

Newport Wedding at the Regatta Place

Newport weddings constantly rank as some of the loveliest in their league. The setting is to die for and the style is always sophisticated with a heaping side of fun. This Regatta Place beauty captured by Deborah Zoe is one fabulous example. It’s Newport at its very finest, and you can see even more right here.

From Deborah Zoe PhotoTheir engagement story is like something straight out of a Bachelor episode, something only tv magic could make up. But yet it wasn’t, it was very much real and very much planned by Jon, Melissa’s thoughtful fiance. During an annual trip to St. John’s last year, Jon planned the ultimate surprise proposal for Melissa. Waking up early one morning Jon and Melissa sneaked away for a snorkel trip to a secluded island only to find that they had to swim to the beach. It was there after a lovely stroll through the sand that Jon got down on one knee and asked Melissa to marry him. A trip to the Virgin Islands, a surprise sailing excursion, a swim to a private island and one BEAUTIFUL engagement ring all make for an amazing and unforgettable proposal!!

Jon and Melissa capped their magical engagement on a beautiful summer day in Newport at the gorgeous Regatta Place where they wed overlooking Newport Harbor. Friends and family from across the country and around the world flew in for the destination affair for which Melissa thoughtfully organized and styled to reflect their love for all things preppy and nautical. The bright coral color scheme and sea inspired accents helped to tie in the all the details beautifully and create the perfect backdrop for Jon and Melissa’s day.

Belle Mer Wedding

This, lovelies, is what we call one crazy gorgeous celebration: a three day extravaganza with vibrant colors galore and one love-filled moment after another captured by Anna Wu Photography.  It’s the kind of wedding that stops you in your tracks from the very second you lay your eyes on its fabulousness… and never once stops being completely awesome, all the way down to the very last kiss.  See sooo much more right here.

And a beautiful film from Seaglass Cinema

From Anna Wu Photography It was our incredible honor to document both photo and video for Mairin and Nikhil’s beautiful Indian wedding extravaganza in Newport, Rhode Island. Because Mairin’s family is Catholic while Nikhil’s is Hindu, they celebrated both with two different ceremonies. It was a packed weekend starting with a Sangeet on Saturday and the church ceremony, Baraat, Hindu ceremony, reception, and everything in between on Sunday. But throughout the wedding day, there was just one thing that stood out above everything else– the way these two look at each other. It’s timeless and enduring, with such adoration and abandon as if nothing else in the world exists.

The Catholic ceremony was in Mairin’s home church in Cranston, Rhode Island, while the Hindu ceremony was at Belle Mer in Newport. The mandap was adorned with colorful flowers and gorgeous silks that billowed gracefully in the wind. Traditional Indian music played softly in the background, evoking another time and place. From the moment Mairin walked down the aisle in her new Indian sari, the entire wedding was enchanted. The guests were held spellbound, and every gesture was imbued with tradition and new meaning. It was truly breathtaking.
