A Romantic Philadelphia Wedding So Chic We Wish We Were Invited!

Mary Kate and Achille’s wedding has us wishing we had scored an invitation! The couple’s relationship started with prosecco, so it was only fitting that Elizabeth Bailey Wedding helped them plan an Italian-inspired day.  The tented reception dripped in greenery, bringing the outdoors in, and Winsome Floral covered tables in artful floral arrangements mixed with organic fresh fruit.  You can feel the joy and love of the day in the eye-catching imagery by Liz Andolina Photography. Visit the full gallery for a closer look.

Mary Kate and Achille’s wedding was a beautiful blend of their Italian and Irish heritage. Held at Cairnwood Estate outside of Philadelphia, the vibe was black tie, fun, and Italian-inspired. From Mary Kate’s stunning Monique Lhuillier gown to the hilarious toasts, this was a wedding their guests would never forget. Cairnwood Estate was transformed into an Italian villa. With hanging greenery, dogwood, and chandeliers, Winsome Floral evoked a Tuscan garden within the tent on the back terrace. Mary Kate and Achille met in NYC, at an Italian restaurant where Achille was working. Their relationship started over prosecco, so it was only fitting their wedding would transport their guests to Italy. Mary Kate wore a custom robe while getting ready at Cairnwood Estate, before heading to her first look in her gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown with Achille on the property.

Sticking with a neutral color palette, Winsome Floral created beautiful bouquets of white and greenery that popped beautifully against the silk champagne bridesmaid dresses. Plume Calligraphy created timeless yet modern invitations with eye-catching calligraphy that was incorporated into the rest of the wedding day paper. The wedding took place at a church nearby, where in a nod to Mary Kate’s heritage, a bagpiper welcomed guests as they arrived and walked ahead of Mary Kate and her father down the aisle.

A vintage Cadillac (loaned from a family friend) gave the bride and groom the perfect Italian getaway moment on their way back to the venue. Achille’s family owns a local Italian restaurant, so guests were treated to freshly sliced prosciutto, prosecco, various cocktails at the outdoor bar, and a three-course Italian dinner complete with a pasta and meat course, and wine. As favors, guests received handmade olive oil gifts personalized with their names. The toasts by the bridal party had the guests in tears of laughter, and everyone danced the night away with the band in the ballroom.

The French chateau we hosted the workshop at, Cairnwood Estate, lent itself perfectly to the elegant + whimsical style of the day!

Faye & Renee created the most beautiful tablescape fit for a royal couple, and we used the front of the chateau to create a floral-decked natural arch for the ceremony site!

East Made Co. brought her A game with the styling + vision, and beautiful French flatlays that tied into the chateau + spring color palette.

Serendipity + Fate Leads to This Romantic Wedding at Cairnwood

It all began the summer of 2003… Sounds like the perfect intro for a romance novel, right? And although Katy and Hunter’s romance is a mere fifteen years old (about the age they were when they first fell in love!), their story, as well as their wedding day, is packed with personality and filled with so many delightful details. All captured to utter perfection by Lauren Fair Photography! Do read on…

From the Bride… Our story began in the summer of 2003. We met on the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey as teenagers and made things ‘official’ at the end of that summer. Our young love only lasted about three weeks into the fall (living a staggering 40 minutes apart was tough!) and we sadly parted ways. Ten years passed… we graduated from different high schools, went to different colleges and started our post-graduate careers in different states…

In 2013, we met again at the wedding of our only mutual friend. Now, we like to say that  serendipity and fate brought us back together. We simply took a “10 year break!”

After two and a half years together, Hunter proposed with the help of our Corgi, Waffles, on a perfect night in our new home.
We both grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia so we knew immediately that we wanted to find the perfect venue outside of the city. My family had attended a wedding at Cairnwood in 2013 (right before we reconnected!) and I instantly fell in love with its stunning, dreamy beauty. Once we became engaged, we set a date and started dreaming up our perfect day.

The goal for our wedding was timeless, classic style with hints of our personalities shining through. My Father’s side of the family is from England (my Great Grandmother was born in London) so an affinity and love for the royal family was passed down from generation to generation. Overall, we wanted to be able to look back at our big day at any time, during any year and feel like we could throw the party all over again the next day. We wanted it to stand the test of time!

We used a neutral color palate of white, ivory and dove gray complimented by greenery, gold tones and hints of classic black. My Mom and I both share a deep love for fresh flowers so we had the best time planning an English garden of florals throughout the reception venue. From banisters to mantels, tables and beyond, we started to joke that if there was a surface — we found a way to cover it in florals — thanks to the amazing team at Robertson’s Flowers and Events!

White roses, hydrangea and peonies were our star flowers and we loved hearing our guests rave about the sweet floral aroma that surrounded the entire reception. Our favorite piece was the stunning 24-foot floral runner that ran the entire length of our barn wood head table – a perfect mix of my classic taste with Hunter’s love for rustic details.

I’m all about the details so we loved working with small boutiques and artists to create personalized additions such as a custom watercolor illustration of our love story to signage with classic calligraphy to gold embossed cocktail napkins, a wood sign for Hunter’s classic whiskey bar and even tiny carrot cake cupcakes for dessert — both Hunter’s and my favorite dessert!

Although we threw a traditional white wedding, we heard from everyone that our wedding felt unmistakably like “us” and provided a beautiful, romantic evening filled with laugher (and LOTS of flowers!) to celebrate our journey with family and friends!

We just got Katy and Hunter’s trailer film from n.s.t. pictures today! Perfect timing. Please, take a few precious minutes and watch the day, and the love, unfold! You’ll leave with a smile on your face – guaranteed.

A Transatlantic Love Story + a Perfect Blend of Cultures

Londoner Alex met Sarah when she was a student studying abroad in his city. The two fell in love and it wasn’t long before Alex moved to Philadelphia to be with Sarah. For their Pennsylvania nuptials, the couple paid homage to the three countries most meaningful to them – England (his heritage), China (her heritage), and the States (their current home). From the English Pimms signature cocktail to the Chinese writing on the paper goods to the historical venues, the end result captured by Ashley Bartoletti Photography was perfectly “them” and perfectly beautiful!

From Ashley Bartoletti Photography Sarah and Alex met when Sarah was a student studying abroad in London where Alex lived at the time – eventually he moved to Philadelphia to be with her. They got married on the grounds of a historical cathedral in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, followed by a reception next door at Cairnwood Estate. The wedding is beautiful with lots of pretty florals and portraits on the grounds of the amazing properties.

From the Bride… We wanted a classic but not stuffy wedding that reflected our personalities and heritage. Our color palette was pinks and peaches to fit with the venue. I wanted it to be romantic but not too girly or cheesy. We wanted to pay tribute to both his English and my Chinese heritage, so we tried to include elements of each: English and Chinese verses for the ceremony, Chinese writing on invitations and menus, and English Pimms cocktails as our signature drink. We had a big Chinese banquet the night before (with so much karaoke!), so we served a traditional English menu at the dinner (rack of lamb and stuffed Cornish hen).

There were so many favorite moments from the day – two of my favorites were definitely the toasts and first dance. Also, my parents hand made the favors. It is traditional in China to give out wedding candy, so my aunt brought the candy from China, and we wrapped it in colorful Chinese double happiness boxes.

Choosing the flowers was my favorite part of wedding planning. We loved using all local, small-business vendors. Everyone was so great to work with!

My advice to Brides-to-be would be to enjoy every moment as it will go by in a blur. Also plan extra time for hair and makeup as things will inevitably run late!
