From Umbrellas to OMG Views!

This duo always knew that a destination wedding was in the cards for them so when it came time to pick a place to become Mr. and Mrs. they set their sights on the beautiful Caribbean island of Anguilla. When rain made an appearance at their ceremony, smiles never faded and when those umbrellas were soon put away, stunning views took their place. Alison Conklin captured it all – see it all in our Vault this way!

From the Bride…  Mike and I met in high school through a mutual friend, although romance wasn’t in the cards until 10 years later. Our two groups of friends hung out for a few months in high school, but we quickly faded out of each other’s lives until the stars aligned and we ended up living in the same building in Manhattan after college. An innocent elevator encounter led to some Facebook stalking and messaging, which led to a first date… and the rest, as they say, is history.

We share a love for travel and after attending my best friend’s wedding in Turks and Caicos, we knew that when it was our turn, a destination wedding was the way to go. We had been scouting Anguilla for a potential vacation spot, and after seeing pictures of the Viceroy on Instagram and showing them to Mike, he casually said, “We should get married there”. When he proposed two weeks later in Long Beach Island, NJ, we barely finished our first bottle of champagne on the beach with friends before I had sent an inquiry to the Viceroy.

We were enamored with the chic, modern decor and breathtaking views the Viceroy offered and booked our venue without ever seeing it in person. The Viceroy provided us with a wedding coordinator who took all of the stress out of planning a wedding from so far away. Couture Concepts helped bring our vision of a romantic, candlelit reception to life. I will never forget entering the room and seeing the candles reflecting in the windows, which truly took my breath away.

While the weather the whole weekend was perfect, it didn’t exactly cooperate the day of the wedding, and the sky opened up just as I started walking down the aisle. Luckily, it didn’t last long enough to prevent Mike and I from exchanging vows in front of the picture perfect view that sold us on the location to begin with. Mike’s oldest friend officiated our ceremony in front of 75 of our closest friends and family, which made the day all that more special.

One of the greatest things about having a destination wedding is that everyone is on vacation and ready to let loose, which made our reception one of the most epic dance parties I’ve ever been to. Our guests danced the night away, and ended the night with some mini grilled cheeses and a dip in the pool.

After the biggest weekend of our life was over, we were thankful to have something else to look forward to – receiving our photos from Alison Conklin and video from Jet Kaiser. They didn’t let us down! We couldn’t be more thrilled with their work, which truly captured all the love that was in the air that day and all the small moments that may have otherwise faded into the back of our memories. When we look back at the photos and video, we can’t believe that was our own wedding.

Our entire wedding weekend was a dream come true. We were thankful that we were able to spend so much quality time with our friends and family – something that is truly precious with everyone being so busy. We couldn’t have picked a more perfect place to kick off our married life together – the memories will last a lifetime.

It Doesn’t Get More Charming Than a French Countryside Wedding

I’m not sure whether it’s Madame Artisan Fleuriste pretty florals, Sylvie Gil’s dreamy photographs, or the quaint countryside setting itself, but this wedding has completely captured my heart. Simple and sweet, the couple kept the extra fuss to a minimum and let the joy-filled moments speak for themselves. See the day for yourself, little French chapel included.

From The Bride…We wanted something like us, like what we love most in our everyday life. So basically chic but not bling, amazing food and wine, simple, smart, and authentic. It took place in the vineyard of Laurent’s family where there are very old trees, hectares of vines, olive trees, a beautiful, romantic and provencal castle and an amazing tiny chapel, where we have celebrated our union.

Balancing a Modern Office Space with the Perfect Touch of Pink

A combination of fashion savvy glamour and a touch of pink give this office an A+ in the style category. It balances fun graphic prints with feminine details perfectly. The head boss in charge wanted a space that felt whimsical and girly all while maintaining a modern feel and she nailed it. See this study in how to use pink without going overboard photographed by Table4 Weddings in the VAULT.

There are so many lovely inspirations out there for the decorator in today’s world, it can seem easy to tackle designing an office. However, it remains a challenge to make a space unique and livable.

When I started decorating mine, I knew that I wanted a modern feminine approach but I also wanted playful graphic touches. I wanted to collect whimsical treatments of modern art in a more approachable manner, so I started looking in unusual places on the web, as well as looking through my own photography collection.

Pink is a popular motif and I wanted to incorporate this cheerful color but wasn’t sure how long I could commit to it.

So I invested in small pink pieces that would make a big impact but were not too expensive. I spend a lot of time in this fun space and the strong yet feminine approach keep me both energized and comfortable.

A Farmers Market Proposal Turned Elegant Lakeside Wedding

If I were to plan my wedding all over again, I would show my vendors this wedding as inspiration and leave it at that. Because Jennifer and Nick truly planned a picture perfect day. Drenched in pretty pink hues and sweet kisses, Heather Payne Photography was behind the lens capturing every sweet moment and we’ve got it all waiting for you (and/or your vendors, *cough*cough*) in The Vault!

From Heather Payne PhotographyJennifer & Nick married in an intimate venue in Albany, New York with some of their closest family and friends. After our initial conversation together, I knew they were truly special and had the sweetest love story to tell. We met for their engagement photos months before in Massachusetts where we were able to get a true sense of just how sweet their story actually was. Their giggles and genuine expressions for each other was so joyful to capture.

Their wedding took place in Albany, New York at a venue on Crooked Lake. It was a windy and cold day in March, but the sun was so warm and everyone’s spirits were so radiant. The setting was very elegant indoors and the nature of the outdoors was so picturesque with willow trees and perfect little hidden pockets around the lake. Jennifer and Nick’s envisioned their day to feel calm, romantic and ethereal. Knowing the “feeling” of their day, we were able to really create some beautiful images that best represented their style and aesthetic. Jennifer had two beautiful dresses that she wore during the ceremony and reception. Her long cathedral veil blew so gracefully in the wind and wrapped around them during their first look where Nick saw Jennifer for the first time.

From The Bride…I was starting intern year as a pediatric resident in a hospital, and I had just moved in Albany. I wanted to get to know some people, so I joined a christian medical group at the hospital, and that’s where I met him. Initially, when we met, I guess he was attracted, so he tried to invite me over for group gatherings. The first group gathering, we were all going to a museum 45 minutes away, so he texted me to ask if I could give him a ride since he had just finished an overnight call as a surgery resident. So I agreed, and thats when we just started texting a lot. When I picked him up, it ended up we were the only two in the car so we had some really deep conversations. Very quickly we started talking more and more on the phone, and hanging out. Initially I was a little weary because we were talking so much and I was becoming attracted as well, but I wasn’t sure of his feelings for me. However, within 2 weeks of meeting each other, we confessed our feelings and started dating!

Nick proposed by taking me to the farmer’s market that morning, then blindfolding me and driving to the very museum that we had gotten to know each other. On the walk there, he played some songs he downloaded on an iPod and eventually when we got to the terrace, he played the soundtrack version of “I love you…For sentimental reasons” and we slow danced while he sang softly in my ear. There were a lot of random people around. Then he got down on one knee and proposed!

Intimate Elopement Complete with Calligraphy

Let me reiterate: this is not a styled shoot. This is actually a real wedding, but the details are SO on point stylistically that even I thought it was orchestrated for inspiration. But no, this is Taylor and Rainge’s beautifully ‘big’ day. An intimate elopement in the woods that you won’t want to miss – see it all in The Vault!

From Candice Lorraine“I need to be bold
Need to jump in the cold water
Need to grow older with a girl like you
Finally see you were naturally
The one to make it so easy when you show me the truth
Yeah, yeah I’d rather be with you
Say you want the same thing too”

The lyrics Taylor sang to Rainge when they walked through the woods as husband and wife. With the little white church behind them and the rest of their lives ahead of them, Taylor chose the intimate setting of the Georgia mountains to start their life together.

The day began with coffee and biscuits at their favorite local brunch nook at Mama’s Boy in Athens. This cozy spot hosted many their dates in college, and tons of shared memories. After full bellies, they drove up through the mountain fog to the Juliette Chapel, tucked away in the woods of the Appalachian. As Hope Ferguson, started hair and makeup, Taylor calmly told the story of how her and Rainge met and her vision for the wedding day.

Their relationship was created during many drives between South Carolina and Georgia, so the thought of being away in the mountains near the states borders thrilled them. They loved the romance of the woods, being away from all the noise, and reminded that despite all the distractions in life — it is truly just the two of them and their union. Taylor wanted everything to be organic and natural. Her love for the outdoors and career in horses, she just desired to feel like their altar was an oasis created by God. Surrounded by nature was incredibly important to her. Nothing extravagant or dramatic, just her and her fiance in a natural setting.

After Hope finished the perfect makeup touches, Taylor changed into her breathtaking BHLDN dress. The most whimsical and dainty dress and started her walk across the courtyard, down the aisle to her groom. Tears filled Rainge’s eyes when he saw his bride before him. They both giggled and sniffled back tears as their dear friend read a passage from the Bible. They held hands as they exchanged vows to each other. Sealed with a long and quiet kiss, tears rolled down both their cheeks, followed by squeals and lots of laughs, Taylor and Rainge were married.

Amanda Jewel flawlessly executed a whimsical and earthy ceremony design for them to speak their vows under God. They wanted the invitation suite to be a reminder of their vows, their commitment to each other, and to show their children one day. During their engagement, Taylor and Rainge often spoke about the songs that they danced to in the kitchen, and sweet calligrapher Anna Brown, of Olive Juice Press, decided to surprise them by writing the lyrics to “I’d Rather Be With You” by Joshua Radin on the ribbon for Taylor’s bouquet.

It was evident through every detail of the day, that Taylor and Rainge have a peaceful confidence in their love for each other. They reiterated over and over how calming it was to just be together, to spend a day away from any wedding fluff or details, and focus on their marriage.

Rainy Day Wedding That’s Crazy Romantic

If you thought a bit of rain could ruin a wedding day, you better think again because these two are proving otherwise. Photographed by Trish Barker, this Maui “I do” turned out crazy romantic – umbrellas and all.

From Trish Barker PhotographyWhat to do if it rains on your wedding? Have an amazing wedding anyways.

Mallory and Derick came to Maui to get married next to the ocean. And as they watched the skies open up on them as their ceremony was about to start, they decided they were going to have their dream wedding; rain or shine. And they were all smiles the whole time, despite being poured on. And just as it was time for the sun to go down, the clouds gave way to the most amazing light, and their romantic photos came to life.

It just goes to show that you can plan and plan and plan, but things may not always go the way you intend. And sometimes, that’s for the better…

A classic destination wedding in Charleston? We LOVE.

Wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of NYC, these two sweeties landed on the sweet city of Charleston for their Big Day and, my oh my, was it a fabulous choice.  With the help of the uber-talented Fox Events, they hosted a day that was classic, southern AND stunning with Aaron and Jillian Photography on hand to capture every beautiful moment. Fall in love in THE VAULT, then press play on the film from Siegel Films below.

From Fox Events… As an active New York City couple, Quinn and Kevin wanted to bring their family down south to take in the beautiful unique scenery of Charleston. The couples love for Live Oak trees and Spanish moss made Legare Waring House the perfect place to gather all their family and friends to experience historic southern charm. Fox Events designed a reception capturing southern spring style with gray and white La Tavola linens, blush, white and green florals, and beautiful chandeliers hanging from a clear top tent, making sure not to block the gorgeous scenery. The huge black and white tiled dance floor kept the bride and groom dancing the night away with friends and family for a Charleston memory they will never forget.

From the Bride… Introduced through a mutual friend, Kevin and I met seven years ago in New York City. We were both working at our first jobs post graduation and finally after lots of moves, more school, career changes and a few bouts of long distance – we got engaged one chilly night in Central Park.

Deciding on a wedding location was the toughest part for Kevin and me during the wedding planning process. We love living in NYC but really wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city and do something unique and special. We both enjoy traveling and were always partial to the idea of a destination wedding. I have family connections in South Carolina, and I remember visiting Charleston as a child and absolutely loving its charm. One month before we got engaged, I took Kevin there for his first time and knew he had the same feeling about the city as I did. We felt that our friends and family would enjoy traveling to the southern gem just as much as us and that’s when we reached out to Lauren Fox. After a full day of site visits throughout Charleston we finally rounded out the venue tour at Legare Waring House where we knew instantly that it was exactly what we were looking for.

We wanted our wedding to include southern elegance and details unique to Charleston so that our guests could really embrace being in the south with most guests traveling from the New York Metro area. The breathtaking avenue of oak trees was the selling point for us. We absolutely loved how Fox Events designed our entire wedding. Since day one we wanted something unique from what people are used to and Fox Events totally made our wedding day vision a reality. Some of our favorite details included the clear top tent under the oak trees (which Kevin hates to admit the last-minute decision was one of the best things about the wedding), the chandeliers, and the gorgeous floral arrangements that Fox Events put together while complementing the natural beauty of the venue itself. Working with all of our vendors including Cru Catering, Aaron and Jillian Photography, the Voltage Brothers, and Siegel Films truly made our day the best day ever. Kevin and I have never had so much fun in our lives and will inevitably remember this day for the rest of our lives along with the people who helped make our day so special.

Saturday Morning Movie: Jaw Dropping New Zealand Elopement

What a way to kickstart a marriage! Forgoing the traditional wedding route at home, these two Floridians traveled around the globe to New Zealand and said “I do” among lakes, mountains and so much natural beauty, it’s almost too picture perfect to believe. Luckily, Sunshine Weddings – Film & Photo were along for the ride to capture it all – and even luckier for us, we get to enjoy the finished product right this minute!

From Sunshine Weddings – Film and Photo… Floridians Kristen and CJ chose their wedding location on a remote lake in New Zealand because of our films. So there was a bit of pressure! They were the sweetest couple on their first “big adventure” together and asked us to photograph and film their day. The brief was to show off New Zealand to give family and friends a real sense of being there when they saw the photos and watched the film. Kristen and CJ’s ceremony was by Moke Lake, a remote pristine lake surrounded by mountains not far from Queenstown. As animals are a big part of their lives (Kristen studied and works with animals) we took them for a photoshoot in a sheep paddock with new lambs running free. For the ultimate NZ experience we sent their driver home and hijacked them to find some New Zealand native bush. A time of cool calm surrounded by birdsong which really rounded off the day.

For us the best part of working on Kristen and CJ’s wedding was sharing much of what we love most about NZ. In return they gave us the gift of their enthusiasm and being a part of a life-changing day. No one stopped smiling! Kristen told us her Dad cried when he saw their wedding film (the only time she’s seen him cry) and said it was the best film he had ever seen, so we think we hit the brief.

One thing too that Kristen didn’t mention – her ring was her Grandmothers and CJ’s ring was made by a local Queenstown jeweler from a New Zealand 50c coin. The rings are photographed in a Paua shell from their hotel room which is an iconic NZ abalone-like shell.

From the Bride… We met seven years ago in our hometown, Plant City, Florida. CJ was a senior in high school and I was a sophomore! He was the teacher’s assistant for our college level world history class and a tech in the drama program I acted in! I had such a huge crush on him for a while until a mutual friend found out and told him! We went on dates for a few months and then started dating! We have been together everyday since!

After being together four years, we went to Discovery Cove in Orlando, Florida to swim with dolphins! CJ to my surprise had arranged for a dolphin to bring me a buoy with the words “Kristen, will you marry me?” on it! He also spent forever tracking down a ring that I had just mentioned I thought was pretty and never thought anymore of it. He tracked the lady down on Etsy. CJ had her make the same one and shipped it from California to him! Such a romantic!

We have always wanted to travel and see more of the world! When we got engaged, we made the decision to make good on that promise and start off our marriage with traveling. Since the beginning of our relationship, we always dreamed of seeing New Zealand in person so it was a no brainier once we decided to marry abroad!

We wanted to find the spot that screamed “I am in New Zealand!” Since our family was not able to come with us to see our big day and would only be able to see our video and pictures, being in a very natural, beautiful spot was pretty important to us.

We picked our location through watching Sunshine Weddings beautiful videos! When we first viewed the video of Moke Lake, it took our breath away. It was absolutely gorgeous and perfect! It actually is really coincidental because the video that we watched of the location that we fell in love with was actually a video of the wedding planner we ended up hiring! So she basically planned her entire wedding over again and she did an amazing job!

We did our planning a bit differently than most since we weren’t able to bring anything over to include in the wedding, and we didn’t get to see any of the preparations in person until walking down the aisle. But there was one personal element I made sure to include in our big day. My grandma basically raised me and absolutely loved CJ when we were dating. Unfortunately, she passed away before our big day. Before she passed, she gave me a necklace that my grandpa had given to her. On our wedding day, in our hotel, I wrapped her necklace around my bouquet stem so I could hold a piece of them during our wedding. It was something small, but meant a lot to our ceremony.

What’s our favourite memories of the day? More like, what wasn’t our favorite memory?! It’s so hard to pick a few when the entire day was absolutely amazing! Rescuing a baby sheep, hiking through the bush in my wedding dress, almost getting charged at by an angry mom sheep… I could go on!

One of the best memories of that day though, include that feeling of walking down the little bridge and around the hill to see the stunning scenery and set-up of the archway, and my soon-to-be husband smiling at me with the biggest grin! It was such a beautiful moment! I hadn’t had the opportunity to see Moke Lake, our flowers, archway, or anything in person until that moment. So it was so overwhelming to see all of it at once with the thought “I am the luckiest girl in the world, I get to marry my best friend in the most beautiful spot in the world!”

One other memory I would say is both my husband and my favorite would be when we were in the midst of doing our filming shoots, Scott decided the perfect shot would be with our feet in the water! So as my husband is helping me get seated on the bridge and helping me with my shoes, we sit down to see Scott waist deep in freezing cold water in his underwear! It was hilarious! Melissa said she hoped that was the first and last time Scott takes his pants off at a wedding!
I did my planning a bit different since it was in a different country, but I would definitely say in my situation there are a few things I would recommend:
1. Hire a wedding planner if you feel overwhelmed! Honestly, even if you don’t feel overwhelmed, I would still get one! Sarah made it so all I had to do was answer a few questions and show up! She took care of every bit of the details and I couldn’t have planned it better even if I had an extra year to do it! She knew the best places with the best prices for everything so it ended up saving me money in the long run too!
2. Hire a really great photographer/cinematographer! This is a big one! I can’t emphasize enough how much I love our moments that were captured by our filming/photo company we hired. The video made it even more amazing and it was so beautifully done that we could watch it over and over again and never get tired of seeing it. It was our own personal movie!
3. Enjoy your big day! If you do it right, you will only have one! No matter if it rains, snows, your dress button pops off and loosens it (happened to me), you get a few bugs in your veil (also happened to me!), no matter what happens… don’t sweat it! This is YOUR magical, amazing day and nothing should damper your mood!

From The Bride…Junior high. 1996. Girl sees boy and says to herself, “I’m going to marry that boy one day.” Twenty years later, it actually happened. Don’t get it confused…we are not high school sweethearts. I laid eyes on him that fateful day in junior high and that was it. Period. End of story as we knew it. We would continue to live our separate lives all throughout high school, college, and into busy adulthood. It wasn’t until years later, on one chilly May evening in 2009, that this girl and that boy would finally find themselves at the same Memorial Day barbecue (thanks to the mutual friend gods, and fate, and destiny, and perfect timing). He gave me his sweatshirt because I was cold. The rest is history. Mike proposed to me on a park bench, under the Spanish moss, on a lazy Saturday afternoon in Savannah, Georgia. A year and a half later, on January 16th, 2016 we were married at The Foundry in Long Island City, New York.

Everyone thought we were crazy to plan a January wedding in New York. “What about the weather?” they said. “What will you do if there is an epic snowstorm and none of your guests show up?” they asked. My response, “It will be the most perfect day ever.” And it was. From the delicious food, to the amazing band, not to mention the fabulous décor, the fifty-degree weather, all of our favorite people, my glorious two dollar chargers from Bed Bath and Beyond, and the two best photographers on the planet to capture every moment the day was everything we had envisioned and more.

My most vivid memory comes moments before I was about to walk down the aisle. Peeking my head out of the bridal suite, watching my bridesmaids make their way down the stairs in all of their different gold sparkle dresses, listening to the music we picked being played live, feeling the love of all our favorite people in one place to celebrate us, standing next to my mom, and finally seeing Mike patiently waiting for me at the altar caused me to let out a squeal of complete satisfaction that was heard by all of our guests. I strongly believe, it was that excited squeal of joy that set the tone for the rest of our night.

Our ceremony was filled with laughter, tears, and lots of love. Our brilliant officiant T.J. suggested a ring warming. During the ceremony our rings, tied together with ribbon, were passed around to each of our guests giving them the opportunity to warm our wedding bands with their love, make a silent wish, ask a blessing, or offer a prayer for us as we embark on this new journey. Aside from being pronounced husband and wife, this was my favorite part of the ceremony.

Our cuisine was inspired by winter and our love of comfort food. Picture passed mac and cheese bites, bacon and peanut butter crackers, grilled cheese with tomato soup shooters, and barbecue pulled chicken on mini waffles. Red wine braised short ribs for dinner. For dessert, Chef Rossi’s famous Oreo Crack and Fruit Loop Krispies to accompany our Momofuku Milk Bar cake. And we cannot forget about Mama Rossi’s late night pizza bagels (those were quite the hit).

The music was a mix of old and new. Our guests packed the dance floor and boogied down to songs by Otis Redding, The Temptations, Frank Sinatra, The Isley Brothers, Coldplay, Michael Buble, Bruno Mars, Rhianna, and Michael Jackson just to name a few. I personally wanted to hear Remix to Ignition by R. Kelly, but when the night ended with everyone shouting, “ONE MORE SONG, ONE MORE SONG!!” my soul was satisfied.

The décor was inspired by my engagement ring. Gold and sparkly. Along the way, we threw in some hints of deep purple, white, sage green, and pale pink. Honestly, there were points at which I swear my florist Pola was living in my brain. She understood and was able to execute my vision flawlessly. Vintage gold vases, candles of all shapes and sizes EVERYWHERE, lush garland running down the tables and woodland princess style flower crowns for me and my ladies to wear as we partied the night away.

Ironically, the most significant and meaningful part of our décor was actually quite simple. A sprig of rosemary was placed on top of the memory card at each place setting in honor of Mike’s mother, Rosemary. Her passing has left a huge hole in Mike’s heart and I knew that the hole would feel even bigger on this day. It was in this small detail, in the spirit of love that Mike and I have for each other, and in the blessings given to us by our family and close friends that we were able to feel her presence all throughout our special day.

Stay true to your vision no matter what people have to say about it. Enjoy every second of the planning process and know when it’s time to let go and allow the universe (or your fabulous month-of coordinator) take charge. Sneak in as many special quiet moments with your groom as possible. Have fun and be present.

#SMPWedding101 – How to Ensure A Successful Outdoor Event

Outdoor celebrations can be tough. While full of customization opportunities and the pure beauty of becoming Mr. and Mrs. among the great outdoors, they also run the risk of bad weather, lighting issues and more. But that doesn’t mean we’re giving up on them any time soon (one look through our Vault and you can be sure outdoor weddings are here to stay). So we have Sperry Tents here to go over the 10 areas to cover (some, quite literally) to ensure a fantastic outdoor “I do” celebration.

1. TENT STYLE

It’s vital to choose wisely when selecting a tent for your wedding – remember, it is your principal backdrop. Your tent will feature prominently in your wedding photos and deserves just as much thought as you would give to assessing the décor and style of an indoor venue.

Since the beginning, Sperry Tents have exemplified craftsmanship and aesthetics with graceful sailcloth canopies, nautically inspired pennants atop each peak, and solid wood support poles. They are designed to be equally attractive from a distance and close up, and are visually striking on their own and yet subtle enough not to compete with various décor styles. Plus, they do not require additional drapery to hide shiny white vinyl or aluminum poles.

Described as pole tents, Sperry Tents have both center and side poles and require stakes in the ground. For sites that do not accommodate stakes, or for hard to reach places such as decks and patios, frame tents are a smart alternative. Clear-top tents are another popular choice for starry night views but keep in mind that they heat up in the sun (like a greenhouse) so are best for spring and fall dates.

2. TENT PLACEMENT

One of the prime considerations in siting a reception tent is level ground: this is just as important for table and chair functionality as it is for guests’ footing. When there’s no way to avoid a sloping or uneven grade, consider full flooring. It’s a bigger budget item but assures comfort for all.

It’s always best to meet with a representative from the tent company in person at your event site to decide on the exact placement of tent(s). Keep in mind that an experienced tent professional can typically address a variety of issues, from recommending covered walkways to keep catering staff dry to creative problem solving such as tenting over small trees and fences to even covering up pools with flooring. You don’t know what can be accomplished until you ask!

3. CREATE DESTINATIONS

One trend in recent years with real staying power is the use of multiple tents to create event “destinations.” This is a great way to get creative and impress guests with unique experiences. We’ve seen almost everything: tents for ceremonies, cocktails, escort card displays, dancing, bridal prep, kids’ activities, dessert/candy stations, cigar rolling, and more. They can be grouped together in one tent “village” or spread across a large property.

However, if budget is a concern, consider creating “destinations” inside one large reception tent. Use lounge furniture to create swanky hangout areas or arrange cocktail tables with whimsical linens near the bar.

4. STAR POWER

You’ve seen white and ivory tents before but have you ever seen a navy tent dotted with translucent white stars? Sperry’s signature blue star tent is a showstopper and always generates oohs and aahs! A smaller round blue tent makes for a fun, buzz-generating cocktail tent companion beside a more traditional ivory reception tent.

5. LIGHTING

We can’t emphasize the importance of lighting enough! Your lighting selections play a big role in the style and general atmosphere of your wedding, and they also impact the dusk and evening photography greatly. Sperry Tents begins with standard lighting options that mount on the center poles, such as copper onion lanterns or wrought-iron chandeliers. Other popular options include Asian lanterns or bistro strings strung between center and side poles. And we always complete each of our tents with bulb lighting around the perimeter that contributes to its romantic nighttime glow. But there is so much more to consider: LED lanterns along a path leading to your tent entrance. LED candles in votives hanging from a tree. Bistros strung above a porch or an outdoor dance floor. Club-style lighting for the band stage and dance floor. A colored wash on the tent ceiling. If you want to get really serious, consider hiring a specialty lighting company.

6. LAYOUT

In general, your tent provider will recommend a tent size to accommodate your guest count, dance floor, and/or band stage. But typically, this recommendation is based on the assumption that you are placing standard five-foot-round tables of 8-10 guests in an efficient pattern. Speak up if you need room for a lounge area or if you are choosing extra-large round tables, have standalone farm tables, or are mixing banquet and round tables, etc. You want to avoid miscommunication and a cramped layout!

7. DON’T FORGET YOUR CATERER

You’ve thought about your guests’ comfort, but remember that your caterer has needs too! For smaller events a caterer may be able to work out of the house or a garage but for most events they will require a tent. Handily enough, experienced caterers have worked many outdoor events before and know exactly what size cook tent they need, so just ask. In some cases, specialty caterers like barbeque or clambake companies do not require tents, but double check!

8. WEATHER

No couple wants to think about rain on their big day, but rain preparedness comes with the territory of planning an outdoor event. The good news is that most tent companies allow for what is called a rain plan – equipment that is put on hold via a deposit in case of rain but that can be cancelled a day or two before based on the weather report.

Typical rain equipment includes a ceremony tent (for outdoor ceremonies that get rained out), connectors in between tents (particularly between the catering and reception tents), and a cocktail tent so guests don’t end up under the dining tent for drinks. Rain is not the only weather consideration, however. Outdoor wedding in July? Consider fans that mount on your tent’s perimeter to keep everyone cool. And since the temperature can drop at night in spring and fall, heaters are a wise decision. Propane heaters can comfortably heat a fully sided tent while patio heaters are nice for cocktail hour.

9. POWER

Almost every vendor who makes an outdoor event happen requires power. The tent lights, catering equipment, portable bathrooms, and the band or DJ are the principal power users, and keep in mind that a couple extension cords and the available outlets in your garage might not suffice. Be prepared for each vendor’s power usage and ask how many dedicated circuits they require. As a general rule, it’s smart to have an electrician install a special panel for the wedding’s power use (that can be removed afterwards). Or, if the tents are placed in a field or lawn away from a power source, a generator will be required.

10. EMBRACE THE OUTDOORS!

You chose an outdoor event for a reason, so maximize its potential! Bring the outdoors in and infuse your décor with loose, wild garden-style floral arrangements or even potted herbs, plants, shrubs, and small trees. Encourage guests to move beyond the confines of a tent with lawn games (croquet, anyone?), lawn furniture like Adirondack chairs or even hammocks, boat cruises, and golf cart rides. The more guests interact with the natural setting, the more memorable your big day will be!

Beach, Blooms, And All the Engagement Inspo You’ll Ever Need

Summer weekends might be slowly winding down, but we’re determined to savor every last second we’ve got left. And kicking us off into this August Friday is a dreamy beach engagement from Esther Sun. The full gallery is basically our version of heaven on earth, and don’t miss the couple’s sweet love story waiting below.

From The Bride…Dennis and I grew up together at the same church but our paths wouldn’t cross until much later. He was always the cool high school kid getting into trouble while I was the goody two-shoes middle schooler observing from afar. Ironically, it wasn’t until Dennis began attending a new church, that we finally connected and eventually started to date!

Shortly after becoming official, we took a day trip down to San Diego, which is where we got to experience some of the most defining moments of our relationship. We made ourselves comfortable at a local beach and spent some time enjoying the wonderful weather and beautiful views. There, I got to share with Dennis some of the most delicate and dear things about my life that I still hold close to my heart today. Upon sharing, Dennis’ response of gentleness, care, concern, and love spoke to me of a potential future with him. Little did I know, this was also the same moment Dennis knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, to continue to love, nurture, and protect me. One year later, Dennis took me back to San Diego and professed his love for me and sealed the deal with the loveliest rose gold stunner!

When we booked our wonderful wedding photographer and now great friend, Esther Sun, we knew we had to do our shoot at the beach, reminiscent of our most pivotal moments. We didn’t need anything over the top, but just something that really captured our story. Esther did an amazing job and we are still blown away with how beautifully she captured our love. We are so excited to share these wonderful images with our family and friends, but even more so to be able look back at them years from now when we are old and want to be taken back to where it all began.

One Part Rustic + One Part Glam = Wedding Perfection.

In the words of their amazing coordinator, JNS Events, “Playing off the natural landscape of Mountain House Estate, we created a soft, organic look with a hint of romantic glam.” And in our opinion? Mission totally accomplished. Go see it all through the lens of Brittrene Photo in The Vault!

From JNS EventsWhat can we say…this one was a real beauty with the sweetest couple and a dream event team. And after a week of rain, the sun came out just in time for us to capture all the loveliness. Playing off the natural landscape of Mountain House Estate, we created a soft, organic look with a hint of romantic glam. A palette of rose quartz, coral, and plum complemented the barn wood with hints of blue adding a fun pop. The blue was echoed in the hand-painted invitation suite and silk watercolor menu ribbon. Gold accents on the tablescapes and the bride’s gold lace dress added a touch of romantic glam to the outdoor setting. After a sunset photo session where we captured the most incredible warm glow, the couple hit the dance floor and literally twirled the night way! Love Love!

Say Hello to the Cutest Blogger Bride Ever

Are you ready to follow the ultimate wedding planning journey? Well, what if I told you said journey was from the sweetest bride-to-be ever. In that case, say hello to Shelby of Pretty in the Pines. Because this lovely lady is our newest blogger bride and quite honestly we’re crazy excited to follow her journey. Read on for more and get to know this ah-dorable lady below and in The Vault!

From the Blogger Bride-to-be… HI SMP readers and brides-to-be! I am beyond excited to have a chance to share my wedding journey on one of my favorite blogs (and the reason I run out of photo storage on my phone due to 500 screenshots of wedding inspiration)! My name is Shelby and you can find me over at Pretty in the Pines, a lifestyle and fashion blog based in Raleigh, North Carolina. I created my blog a couple years ago due to my love for fashion, decor, travel, and photography. I am continuously inspired by the beauty of my home state and that is how I got the name “Pretty in the Pines”! Although my fiancé and I live in the ‘land of the pines’, we’re switching things up a bit for our wedding and going from the pines of NC to the palms in Charleston, SC, next spring! We are SO excited!

Today I’m sharing part 1 of our engagement photos taken by our wedding photographers, Jake and Heather. My fiancé, TJ, and I first met when we were both sophomores at North Carolina State University. I had recently joined a sorority, Delta Gamma, and needed a last minute date for an upcoming Semi Formal event. Some older girls told me that they knew of the perfect date and his name was TJ. After being a little bit nervous for the set-up, I was instantly relieved when I realized how down to earth and funny this guy turned out to be. The evening of the event, we danced the night away and also found out we had a lot more in common than we thought was possible. We both had the same favorite song (‘Your Love’ by The Outfield), favorite food, and we were even born in the same small town way down in Florida (how weird!?). I ended up having such a fun night at Semi Formal and he must have also because the next night he asked me out on a second date!

Only one month later, he asked me to be his girlfriend. That was over six years ago! Fast forward to this past December and we were on the way to our friend’s “birthday lunch”. Only, as soon as we got in the car, TJ asked me press play on a playlist he had made called “Us”. It was a playlist of each one of the songs that reminded us of one another, and only then did he tell me that we had to make a few stops along the way to the lunch. At that point, I had a feeling of what was going on and the tears started flowing! He stopped at the place where we met, my old sorority house on campus, where he first told me he loved me, and a couple more, but it was such a crazy blur! At each stop we made, he had sweet words ready to share with me about why he loved me. The last stop was at the NC State bell tower where he had some hidden photographers (two of our best friends) hiding behind a bench. When we walked up to the bell tower there were flowers, champagne, and framed photos of us, he got down on one knee and proposed! I couldn’t believe that he had planned all of that without me knowing! Well, remember that “friend’s birthday lunch”? When we finally arrived to it, our best friends and families were waiting there to completely surprise me and celebrate! It was the absolute best day!

So now that you’ve heard the beginning of our love story, I cannot wait to bring you all along for the journey of planning our wedding. I tend to be a big “planner” and usually like to have control over all of the details, no matter how small; however, my hope for our wedding is to be the opposite. My only wedding wish is to have an extremely fun, romantic, and carefree day, celebrating marrying my best friend with the most important people in our lives (while sticking to a budget!). I want to have a wedding day of no worries and just pure love and good vibes for everyone. I am so excited to share my tips and advice along the way on how to achieve that and hope you will follow along for all of the excitement.

Be sure to follow my Instagram @prettyinthepines to see more wedding behind the scenes, especially over the next few weeks!
