15 Things NOT to Do as a Bridesmaid

Ladies, beware of the bridesmaidzilla. Like Kristen Wiig and Rose Byrnes’ characters in “Bridesmaids,” bridesmaidzillas are pretty much every bride’s worst nightmare, taking the stress of planning a wedding and multiplying it times infinity.  Whether you’re a first-time ‘maid, or a total pro, the trick to being the perfect bridesmaid is remembering these 15 rules!

1. Don’t Make it about you

Remember, this isn’t your day, it’s hers. That means that if she picks out a less-than-pretty bridesmaid’s dress, you put on a smile and zip it up. This is her chance to be in the spotlight, and one day, know that she’ll be returning the favor.

2. Don’t tell the bride you hate her wedding dress

You know on “Say Yes to the Dress” when the bride is having her moment and the entourage says no, ruining her bridal dreams? Don’t be that person. Personal style is subjective. If she asks for your opinion, give it gently, but keep in mind that just because you hate lace, doesn’t mean that she does.

3. Don’t disrespect the bride’s wishes

If she says she wants a low-key bachelorette party, don’t plan a boozy weekend in Las Vegas. Ask the bride what she has in mind for her shower and bachelorette party and let that guide the planning, but keep the details secret for an element of surprise!

4. Don’t let the bride get too drunk at her Bachelorette Party

Part of your duties as a bridesmaid includes making sure the bride has a great time at her bachelorette party, but the goal of the night shouldn’t be “how drunk can the bride get.” Make sure part of the festivities include getting food in everyone’s stomachs and pay attention to how much she’s had to drink. Want extra brownie points? Give her lots of water — she’ll thank you in the morning.

5. Don’t drink to excess at wedding events

Weddings are a celebration, so inevitably the Champagne will be flowing from the time the bride says “yes” to the time she says “I do.” And while we’d never discourage you from sipping on some bubbly, keep in mind that it’s your friend’s big day and you want to be there and present for every moment of it.

6. Don’t ignore the bride

Hopefully when you agreed to be a bridesmaid, you knew what you were signing up for. Respond to the bride’s emails, phone calls and texts within a timely manner, and make sure she knows that you’re there for her when she needs you.

7. Don’t complain about the money

Being a bridesmaid is expensive.  From the bridesmaids dresses to the travel to the parties to the gifts — it adds up quickly. If you simply can’t afford to, that’s OK! Explain the situation to your friend and that you’ll still be there for her throughout the wedding planning process. But if you’ve already agreed to be a bridesmaid, don’t complain about the expenses.

8. Don’t Buy a size-too-small bridesmaid dress because you’re sure you’ll lose weight

This should be a no-brainer, but order the dress in the size you are, not the size you want to be. You can always take a dress in, but you can only let a dress out so much.

9. Don’t question why you aren’t Maid-of-Honor

Yes, you and the bride are BFFs and she was the maid-of-honor in your wedding, but that doesn’t mean she has to name you as hers. Respect the bride’s decision and let her know how happy you are to be included in the big day. And hey, think of it this way, less work for you!

10. Don’t fight with the other bridesmaids

No one expects you to be besties with every woman in the bridal party, and if you and one of the other bridesmaids don’t want to hang out one-on-one, that’s fine. But don’t let your feelings towards one of them affect the bride. It’s one day — put on a smile and play nice.

11. Don’t skip pre-wedding events (unless you live out of town)

We’re all busy, but if you signed up to be a bridesmaid, you signed up for all the fun of wedding planning. If you live out of town, no one expects you to fly in to help out with a DIY project, however, if you live nearby, try to be there for your friend every step of the way.

12. Don’t have an opinion on everything

Remember when you were a child and your parents told you, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all?” Well, that applies to weddings. Obviously, if your friend asks for your opinion, you should give it to her, but some things are better left unsaid.

13. Don’t compare her wedding to yours

Maybe it starts with comparing her ring to yours, or her choice of venue to your own, but comparing weddings is a slippery slope that will never end well. Your day was or will be perfect for you, just as hers is perfect for her.

14. Don’t bring up her exes

A wedding is about the future, not the past, so this should go without saying, but don’t bring up any ex-boyfriends, no matter how long it’s been.

15. Don’t Lose Sight of Your Friendship

Wedding planning has a tendency to bring out the best and the worst of people. No one likes a bridezilla, but you have to remember that your friendship is infinitely more important than an ugly bridesmaid’s dress. Deep breaths and a little perspective will help you get through even the most trying moments.

Intimate Puerto Rico Destination Elopement

You know how I feel about intimate weddings (disclaimer: they’re my absolute favorite), so it’s really no surprise that Samantha and Stuart’s celebration has stolen my heart completely. With the talented Elisa Bricker behind the lens, these two jet set off to their favorite vacation spot to say ‘I Do’, and you can see it all firsthand in The Vault!

From Elisa BrickerThis intimate wedding by a New York couple took place in Old Town San Juan, Puerto Rico. Samantha and Stuart chose this spot because it was a favorite vacation destination and had very personal memories for the two of them. They wanted their wedding to be very intimate and meaningful.

Their private ceremony overlooked the sea, in the shadow of the historic Castillo San Felipe del Morro (also known as Fuerte San Felipe del Morro or Morro Castle) – a 16th-century citadel located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Their classic style included a fitted-with-flare gown by Carol Hannah and a classic tux by J. Crew for the groom. Post ceremony, The couple celebrated with a few friends and family at the Condado Vanderbilt.

A Day That Completely Defines “Dream Wedding”

Old world glamour is the name of the game for this Sonoma affair and the images by Meghan Mehan Photography? Quite frankly, they’re the stuff wedding dreams are made of. The Hayley Paige dress. The staircase ceremony. The ivory bouquets tied up with satin ribbon. It all adds up to a standing ovation for ROQUE Events and you better not miss the gallery or film by Josh Harney below.

The wedding of Camelia and Mark was majestic and sweet as the rain clouds hovered throughout the afternoon. A ray of sunshine was destined to peek through as guests patiently awaited the wedding party to enter the ceremony at Sonoma Golf Club. The wind blew the soft ivory drapery and crystal chandelier every so lightly where the romantic bride and groom would say ‘I Do’ and exchange their vows. Garlands of bay and pink roses adorned the staircase railing creating an enchanting look and feel that added a special touch of sweetness to the wedding festivities. As in wine country, 2 barrels lined either side of the aisle with tall gold floral arrangements making the centerpiece of the ceremony pop with a dreamy flare. Gorgeous bridesmaids wore soft pink gowns and the groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos, making this an elegant cocktail affair. The beautiful bride wore the ultimate flowy gown by Hayley Paige that paired perfectly with her loose hand tied bouquet of ivory garden roses, ranunculus, olive, majolica and spray roses tied in ivory satin.

The decor was filled with a romantic color palette of white, ivory, blush, gold and black. La Tavola Linen draped the dining tables and sweetheart table with mixed metal votives, stunning centerpieces and custom table names with the places the bride and groom have traveled to around the world. Greenery strung on the 4 chandeliers hanging over the dance floor was the perfect addition to make the design come together.

The 4-tier ivory wedding cake was absolutely stunning with embellished gold and silver accents and textures. The Mr. and Mrs. and their guests enjoyed the sweet flavors of s’mores by the open fire after dinner. Everyone snuggled up with white fleece throws and embraced the love for Camelia and Mark. It was the perfect day to celebrate such a romantic couple. We wish them so much love and happiness!

From The Bride…Brandon and I met while attending University of Houston. Our first date was with a group of friends on a limo ride to the Texans football game, we’ve been inseparable ever since. Brandon was an Art Major and I was attending the Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management. I grew up in the restaurant business; my family owns Amerigo’s Grille, an Italian inspired restaurant that has been in The Woodlands, TX for 27 years. I have worked in the business since I was 16 and I continue to work as the PR & Events Manager. My family has been members of The Club at Carlton Woods since I was a little girl and I always dreamed of having my wedding there.

The inspiration for the wedding came when Brandon’s business brought him to Santa Barbara. We were inspired by our visits to Santa Barbara’s wineries and the beautiful scenery and romantic vibe. Our amazing photographer, Nancy Aidée, flew there to take our Engagement photos among the cliffs on the beach. Upon returning to The Woodlands, I connected with my wedding planner to begin the creative process. What started as imaginative ideas turned into incredible realities that were brought to life by the tireless effort of Keely Throne Event’s, Ashley Appling.

The day began with severe thunderstorms in the morning and by the ceremony the clouds had cleared to reveal a beautiful blue sky to welcome the 200 guests in attendance. The ceremony was on the outside terrace overlooking the world famous Jack Nicklaus golf course. The guests were seated on the manicured lawn. The wedding party walked down the center brick pathway to the sounds of a live four string quartet, Divisi Strings. Giant stunning floral arrangements in garden urns on wooden pillars surrounded the space where Brandon & I said our vows.

Upon completion of the ceremony the guests walked up the stairs and into the Bears’ Den lounge for the cocktail reception. Events in Bloom provided white Victorian furnishings including a white tufted ottoman and French divans. Hors d’oeuvres and champagne were passed with silver embossed monogrammed napkins.

The spacious elegant reception area was graced with tall ceilings, wooden beams, and French style bronze chandeliers draped in greenery. The floral arch ways and wooden farm tables with cross back chairs added to Romantic winery feel. White wooden box planters framed the front of stage and flowed with flowers. Pale pinks, peach, and organic greenery were common colors of the floral centerpieces and long cascading table runners. The white dance floor was personalized with a large gold embossed custom wedding monogram, designed by Kara Anne Paper, who also designed the exquisite invitations and stationery. In lieu of a guest book we had an impressive three liter 1997 Silver Oak wine bottle for the guests to sign with gold pens.

To kick off the reception, our Jewish family friend Dr. Gottleib gave a toast and had Brandon “Break a Glass” on the dance floor. Dr. G stated, “That will be the last time you ever put your foot down!” The crowd went wild and the party went into full swing. The groom loves bourbon so we created “Brandon’s Bourbon Bar” on the veranda as a specialty bar featuring different types of bourbons for the guest to enjoy. Action stations including a Beef Tenderloin carving station, Scallops station, and Pasta station added to the enjoyment of the evening. A live Sketch Artist created personal sketches of each guest and their date to take home as a wedding souvenir. Live Event Paintings, Susan Moss Cooper, came in from Dallas and set up her canvas next to the dance floor to sketch a portrait of our first dance. We danced to Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones performed by The Argyles, a famous wedding band from Austin, TX. The highlight of the evening was when all the guests gathered on the dance floor with confetti sticks filled with “Flutter Fetti.” Confetti fell from the sky as Brandon & I cheered and danced with our closest family and friends. Mini pepperoni pizzas, the groom’s favorite, were butler passed on silver platters as the midnight snack. We left with a sparklers send off in a 1965 white Rolls Royce. This special weekend of friends and family reflected our personalities perfectly and will forever be engrained in our memories.

Private Vow Renewal Under the Floral Abour

One thing I know for sure? Is that Andrew Mark Photography has a way with the lens that can totally transport you. Take Louci & Sarkis’s vow renewal as example. Because after one look in The Vault you’ll feel as if you were front row for their sweet vow renewal underneath the prettiest floral arbor ever. See it all here!

From Andrew Mark PhotographyLouci & Sarkis renewed their vows under a stunning floral arbour with just a few of their friends their to watch. A small dinner reception took place under their favourite willow tree.

From Spunky Sapphire EventsWeddings are the beginning of new legacies and a celebration of a love story supported by generations culminating in a strong marriage. Inspired by the deep hues of summer and the heritage of a strong family, we focused on the classic style of a plantation and the unwavering love of the couple and their family. Under the arch her grandfather built and on land that has been in the family for generations, the couple renewed the vows that began their legacy: to love and care for each other and to work daily on building a marriage more beautiful than their wedding day. Heirloom china pieces lined long harvest tables for the anniversary dinner and were accented with the family’s glassware collection, modern gold flatware, and richly-hued florals dripping with greenery. Beautiful treasures of furniture dotted the landscape and provided guests places to reconnect and savor the celebration. Under a strong willow tree, husband and wife stole a moment to themselves to soak in the sight of their loved ones gathered together and to reflect on a day that will hold a place in their hearts forever.

Two Cute Kiddos + Donuts Makes For One Special Destination Celebration

Here’s a girl after my own heart. Her two wedding day essentials? Donuts and ghost chairs. From the sweet treats to the chic decor (thanks to the guidance of The Eventeur), this destination celebration was a hit – and a family-filled affair to boot. With the couple’s two sons in attendance – and dressed oh so dapper – smiles never faded and 5ive15ifteen captured it all. Head to our Vault for more!

From the Bride… Our relationship started with us being in different places in our lives. It was a test of genuine love, patience and determination that lead us to our fairytale. We had two very special guests at our wedding, our sons, and we were thrilled they were there to witness our vows. When we decided to get married, a destination wedding was a must for us but we weren’t quite sure of the destination itself. We wanted a location that was convenient for our Canadian guests to travel to but also offered a unique experience for them. Costa Rica was the perfect choice with its stunning landscapes and wide scope of adventurous activities offered. The beautiful scenery and sounds of the ocean along with the presence of 61 of our closest family and friends made it the wedding of our dreams and none of it would have been possible without The Eventeur’s help, vision and guidance.

The two elements I knew I wanted as soon as we started planning was the donuts and ghost chairs. Beyond that, I wanted the reception to feel fancy but not stuffy and still stay true to its surroundings. For Srdan, musts were good food and good music. Local Costa Rican fare, served family style were a huge hit and a conversation starter for our guests. Our family and friends had the time of their life and we were glad we asked them to take on this adventure with us.

The Ultimate Beachside Wedding

If there was one wedding that embodies the perfect beachside ceremony, this would be it. Captured by Shining Light Photography, it’s the ultimate beach beauty and we’ve got every bit of it waiting for you to favorite and fall in love with (I mean, just look at that two-piece gown!) via The Vault!

From The Bride…When Patrick and I were planning our wedding, we were on the same page with what we wanted. Something small, simple, family only, and definitely a destination wedding. The Omni Amelia Island Plantation has been a favorite vacation spot of mine for the last 8 years, and Patrick had grown to love it as well. So our destination was an easy choice!

Shopping for a dress was a pretty easy experience for me. I knew I wanted something non-traditional that didn’t overpower my petite frame. I went to BHLDN and paired the Anika Tulle skirt and the Celeste topper with an ivory crop top underneath. It was beyond perfect for the beach! Patrick went to Brooks Brothers for his wedding attire, going with a bold, navy custom-made suit that fit him perfectly.

Next obstacle: the guest list! Turns out, our families are a bit bigger than we had realized. And with a guest list quickly growing to 100 people with just our two families, talks of wedding planners, and trying to please everyone, my fiancé had to talk me off the ledge. It had so quickly turned into something that wasn’t us. Without telling our parents, Patrick and I booked my aunt’s condo on the Plantation for an entire week in April. We were going to have a family vacation, and during this vacation, Patrick and I would have a simple ceremony and a dinner with those who mean the most to us. A week long celebration of two families coming together. We started the wedding planning by booking the Property Owners Club at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation. The ceremony was perfect and intimate…exactly what we had envisioned. Patrick and I also had our younger sisters stand beside us as we said our vows. Even though our wedding was super small, it was important to us to have them up there. Since there would only be about 12 of us, we decided to have the ceremony and dinner on the patio. The patio overlooked the marsh and a large oak tree, making the view for the evening both calming and compelling.

We ate dinner after the sun had set, at a large table with bulb lights strung above, serving as our only source of light. The ambiance of the dinner was indescribable, but the relationships, laughter and love being shared was beautiful and extra special. We all just relaxed, played games like both of our families love to do, and just enjoyed each other’s company. It honestly was magical. We even saw a shooting star at the end of the night!

With the work of our amazing vendors (and my sweet aunt and mother) our ideal, intimate wedding came together better than we could have imagined!

Classic Spring Blush Wedding – Overflowing with Cherry Blossoms!

We may be approaching fall but my mind is stuck in spring. And cherry blossoms in particular! Their beauty is just not easily forgotten. Case in point, this classic spring wedding captured by Alea Lovely. From the light blue Jenny Yoo bridesmaids’ dresses to the insanely sweet video clip from Creative Films, cherry blossoms bedeck the background with pink petals – and I can’t get enough! All in our Vault here!

From Creative Films… Jillian and Brent wanted nothing more than to spoil their guests with comfort food, great music and cocktails as they celebrated their beginning to marriage. Their event design was inspired by the architectural elements found in their ceremony and reception venue, the importance of Southern hospitality and the soft colors of spring. The Brass on Baltimore is a historic Kansas City building that has been renovated and is now a highly sought-after event space. The reading of love letters to one another during their traditional ceremony invited guests into their story. The day was filled with intention and personal touches such as a Groom’s Cake donning the Chicago skyline (the Groom’s hometown) and a special visit by their pup, Sadie during portraits. Even the couple’s wedding date held special meaning as it was the Bride’s parent’s 28th wedding anniversary.

From the Bride…Matt and I met 7 years ago at work. We still work together! I am from the Palm Springs area and the older I get the more I love the desert. I knew I wanted to get married in my hometown. I am originally from Bosnia, and have a ton of Bosnian family/friends in the desert. This was a great way to include everyone. I also had some family fly all the way from Bosnia to be there so it felt that much more special to us to share this day with all of our loved ones in such a beautiful place with great weather. We live in San Francisco and Matt is from the Bay Area, so it was close enough for his family/friends as well. We fell in love with the Polo Grounds and didn’t see any other venues after that.

Our wedding felt special because Matt’s birthday was the very next day and it was also Easter weekend. Spring was in the air and this is by far my favorite time of the year. The weather is perfect and the sunsets and backdrops of the desert are really majestic. I wanted to make sure that it felt like Spring (My name also means Spring) so I felt like I needed to pay tribute to the season! I wanted to make sure that this was reflected in our décor. I wanted the colors to be bright and blush pinks mixed with white and very lush greens. I love this look. The floral arrangements were everything I wanted. I also wanted to add pops of color and little orange kumquats on everyone’s place setting were perfect for this. I wanted it to be romantic but not overly feminine. Ceremony and reception were both bright and outdoors. We also included some of our own décor with hung lanterns. Adding little touches like signature cocktails and a seating area for guests just made it more personal and a reflection of our style. Both Matt and I love to eat well, and we really feel like the caterer knocked it out of the park!

We used some handmade crochet table cloths that my grandma made (Both of my grandmas passed away and we wanted it to feel like they were a part of this special day.) My aunt also brought back a ton of Rakija (a local Bosnian fruit brandy) and we used that as guest favors for everyone. The music was a blend of Bosnian traditional and pop music along with the American dance music everyone loves. Our DJ did an incredible job blending all of that! It’s not easy with such a diverse group, but we feel like the dance floor was packed the whole night. Music was really important to us. Matt is Jewish so we also had a breaking of the glass ceremony and a chuppah. What I love most about us is that we come from very different backgrounds, cultures and upbringings and I think it’s very special that we all respect one another and come together especially this day in age, when everyone seems to feel so separated from other religions and beliefs.

We just wanted the guests to have a blast and relax. Our ceremony was non-traditional and we wrote our own vows. This was the best part of the day. I still read them sometime and can’t help but feel so grateful. The whole day just felt perfect, it was filled with emotion and tears of joy. The moon came out for our last dance, I really felt like it was a real life dream.

Designed by Danielle Reidy for Sadie Road, it’s a cozy mashup of elegant chandeliers and whimsical elephant hampers and just the kind of place that’s perfect for housing the newest addition to the fam. Pore through even more of this gorgeous space captured by Lindsey Kay Photography in the VAULT.

Erica from Everything Erica, a popular Chicago food blog, wanted a blush + grey nursery for her baby girl, Elia. The goal was to create a nursery that felt serene, feminine and sweet for baby girl “E” and the new parents to spend time in. I knew I wanted to use neutral colors for the furniture in order to keep it practical in case my clients wanted to use again for future babies.

Knowing that grey + cream would be used for the larger furniture, I wanted to use blush as the primary color, with smaller accents in white and gold. The crib and changing table were the first two items selected and were the inspiration for the rest of the space.

The tufted crib from Restoration Hardware is a show stopper and was the perfect piece to build from–it’s a classic piece with beautiful detail and has the sweet, romantic look we were going for. I always recommend picking one piece to use at the focal point of the space and using that as inspiration to guide the other elements in the room.

With the crib being the focal point, I wanted to introduce the blush color to that wall by painting an accent wall and having little touches of it in the crib skirt and bedding. The wall decal is one of my favorites and has such a lovely, whimsical look (and message), while still being subtle. It add a little visual interest but is not too busy.

With the focal point of the room complete it was a matter of pulling together the other pieces needed for functional storage and a few pretty accessories to tie it all together. The storage ottoman fit in nicely with the tufted look while providing a place to stash miscellaneous items that Erica won’t want out in the open (i. E. Her breast pump!). It also is a place for her husband to sit if he wants to keep her and the baby company during feedings.

The bookshelves were designed to bring a little touch of blush + gold the wall opposite the accent wall. This was the perfect place to add a little stylish storage for books, stuffed animals and minimal accessories. Erica loves elephants and wanted to incorporate those somewhere in the room so we added a few sweet animal art prints to the small corner wall, and a hamper that’s neutral and super adorable!

Of course we wanted to have a few personalized pieces in the space as well! We did a gold “E” on a small wall next to the closet, and a pretty, floral patterned pillow with “Elia” printed on it.

This Wedding Obsessed Bride Pulled Off the Ultimate Celebration

From the Bride… Although we knew we wanted a reasonably long engagement (21 months) I couldn’t help myself but to dive into wedding planning as soon as we got engaged. I read Style Me Pretty daily even before our engagement but after, the addiction was real! I am definitely one of those girls that just loves weddings. My grandma used to sketch me wedding dresses on the back of napkins when I was little. So, it makes sense that I had a pretty specific vision of what I wanted our day to be from the beginning; a really fun party for our family and friends in a beautiful setting.

I knew I wanted a classic, romantic feel for our wedding and as soon as we visited The Garrison, we knew it would be the perfect place to make my vision a reality. We did not have an unlimited budget by any means, so that meant prioritizing what was most important to us. The first thing being, of course, photography. As soon as I found Kelsey Combe’s work (through SMP of course), I knew she would be the perfect person to capture our day. We could not have made a better choice. Not only is her work absolutely stunning, she is a dream to work with and I feel lucky to now consider her a friend. The next thing on the list was flowers. As soon as I walked into Lori Orlando of AvaFlora’s store, I knew she would be a perfect fit. She not only completely understood my vision, she thought of details that ended up being my favorite of the day that I never would have thought of on my own.

Focusing on the naturally beautiful surroundings of our venue, we wanted the decor to feel like it enhanced the setting. We decided on a palette of white, cream, champagne and plenty of gold accents. Lori used a combination of garden roses, tea roses, ranunculus and peonies with accents of greenery arranged organically for both the bouquets and centerpieces. She also created lush foliage garlands for our escort card table and sweetheart table. Gold mercury glass and vintage brass candle holders added a touch of glamour and the candle light created a warm, romantic atmosphere as the sun went down. Possibly my favorite thing that Lori designed was our chuppah. Our venue has a stunning structure already in place, but we wanted to make it our own. Lori used light florals and foliage to create a romantic and garden-esque look that organically flowed with the vines of the structure and was just as breathtaking as the view of the Hudson River behind it.

Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson’s Wedding

Shawn and Andrew? They’re the definition of a power couple. Shawn, an Olympic Gold Medalist currently commentating in Rio, and Andrew, a Long Snapper for the Oakland Raiders, said “I do” with a celebration that felt uniquely and completely “them” planned by Fete Nashville. If you ask us, there’s no better way to lead up to tonight’s Olympic closing ceremonies than a trip to the wedding gallery photographed by Wild Native Co. plus a peek back at their adorable engagement.

I don’t think our wedding day

could have been any more perfect

…or any more “us.”

Andrew surprised Shawn by singing

“You’ve got a friend in me”

From Fete NashvillePlanning Shawn Johnson + Andrew East’s wedding was a dream come true! It was pretty exciting from the beginning when Andrew, a long snapper for the Oakland Raiders proposed to his sweetheart, Shawn, a gold Medal Olympic gymnast, at Wrigley Field right after she threw out the first pitch!

We started planning right away and chose the top of a hill for the ceremony, with 360’ of countryside views at a farm in Franklin, Tennessee. The alter was designed with gorgeous whitewashed antique church windows dripping with flowers, honeysuckle, and vines with more natural elements at the base including logs and lots of candles.

Jack Daniel’s barrels served as aisle markers holding the most beautiful flower arrangements of white peonies, ranunculus & dahlias, ivory garden roses, and lots of textured greens. The bridal party walked through custom barn doors and down the aisle decorated with lanterns, candles and flowers. After the “i do’s, the new Mr. And Mrs. East jumped up with excitement to the cheers from all their friends and family and danced their way back down the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s “signed, sealed, delivered!”

At the reception, Andrew surprised Shawn by singing “You’ve got a friend in me” with his father playing the piano accompaniment. As a late night snack, we had the famous Ellie’s doughnuts food truck come to serve sweet treats to all of the guests. At the end of the night, Shawn and Andrew ran through sparklers to a silver Rolls Royce. At 7 incredibly delicious layers, the wedding cake was taller than the bride!

The reception was lovely with Shawn + Andrew sitting in an ivory love seat with custom “bro” & “bug” signs on the back; their nicknames for each other. Gold calligraphy on white washed wood hanging with gold silk ribbon. Head table made up of several reclaimed wood farm tables with vintage lace runner. 25’ ladder covered in greenery installed over the head table with exposed bulbs hanging. White french urns and mercury candles with loose and flowing greens.

Guest tables: a combination of farm tables and rounds with ivory linens. Centerpieces of barn wood boxes filled with low, lush greens hanging over loose and whimsical. Shawn’s gown is a glamorous silk duchess trumpet silhouette with a soft geometrical lace bodice. Matching lace trim along the hem of her gown also appears on the removable silk satin organza cathedral train. Shawn’s gown features the Elena Zavozina signature keepsake pearls cascading down the back of her gown. Shawn also had her custom headpiece and jewelry designed by European designer Elena Zavozina designed Shawn’s dress, all nine bridesmaids dresses and Andrew’s entire custom suit

From the Newlyweds… Fete Nashville truly made my fairytale wedding come true! I don’t think our wedding day could have been any more perfect or any more “us.” From how it ran to the details, Fete Nashville thought of for Andrew and I. They blew us away and we couldn’t have been happier!!!

How Your Closet Can Help You Find Your Dream Wedding Dress

Even for the most stylish bride, finding your bridal style can seem like a daunting task. Do you want lace? Ballgown? Beading? Backless? The choices are endless. So if you’re feeling a little lost, we’ve got a secret for you: look in your closet! Your fabulous everyday style can help you on your path to find “the one.” Here comes the beautiful, not to mention super stylish, bride!

Classic

If you’re a classic kind of lady, your closet is probably filled with timeless staples that mix and match to create chic, elegant outfits — think: white button-down shirts, a classic trench coat, A-line skirts and dresses, and tailored pieces that fit you perfectly. The classic bride’s dream wedding dress is the epitome of bridal. Look for lovely lace, traditional silhouettes and timeless touches like covered buttons and subtle embellishments. The perfect finishing touch? A gorgeous, matching veil.

Girly

Ruffles, pastels, lace — the girlier, the better. You love to embrace your feminine side with strategic silhouettes and romantic finishes that are straight out of a dream. You want to float down the aisle in a gown that gives you that perfect hourglass figure. Whether in a soft ivory or pretty blush hue, your wedding dress will be a love letter to bridal fashion.

Modern

Chances are, your closet is filled with sleek, streamlined silhouettes in shades of black, white and gray. Your chic minimalist style gives you that certain je ne sais quoi that women everywhere aspire to. Stay true to yourself and your style on your big day with a stylish simple silhouette with architectural influences and edgy charm.

Hipster

You like to keep up with the latest trends but always give them a little spin to be uniquely you. A little bit rock ‘n roll, a little bit thrifty, your closest reflects all the fabulous sides of your personality. For a cool bride like you, a cookie-cutter wedding  dress simply won’t do, so look for a gown with a fresh silhouette and unexpected details.

Beachy

If ever there were a bride that could pull off that effortless style, it would be you. You gravitate towards breezy pieces that play up your laid-back vibe. And if you’re getting married with your toes in the sand and the ocean breeze at your back, you’re going to want a dress that feels light, airy and ethereal to blow in the breeze.

Boho

For a free-spirited beauty like you, fashion is all about flowy fabrics, bold patterns and creative details. Your wardrobe is hippie chic with pretty pieces that give off that casual yet glamorous vibe. Look for a gown with effortless beauty thanks to airy fabrics and nature-inspired finishes.

Vintage

You’re an old soul, inspired by bygone eras and and iconic classics. Vintage treasures fill your closet and frequenting antique stores and thrift shops are your favorite hobby. Channel the golden age of fashion on your wedding day with tried and true silhouettes, vintage-inspired beading and heirloom accessories to complete the look.

Casual

If your daily uniform is more sneakers and jeans than stilettos and sequins, you probably won’t feel comfortable in an over-the-top ballgown on your big day. Look for a wedding dress that’s easy-to-wear (probably one without a corset) with fabrics and finishes that feel unfussy and effortlessly chic.

[dotted]

Glamorous

Beyoncé. JLo. They’ve got nothing on you. With a little help from fabulous outfits and sparkling accessories, you ooze glamour everywhere you go. You’re the kind of woman who turns heads when you walk into a room, so your walk down the aisle is the ultimate occasion to shock and awe your guests with how fabulous you look. Beading, embellishments and exaggerated silhouettes will give you that wow factor you crave.

Fashion-Forward

For you, it’s all about the dress. You peruse fashion magazines like it’s your day job, and might as well have a street style photographer shadow you at all times. You take style risks every day, so your wedding day will be no exception. Find a gown that makes a statement — whether through a unique silhouette, bold color or wow moment. As far as you’re concerned, the aisle is your catwalk.

This Candlelit Parisian Wedding is Everything

Parisian weddings are the end all, be all of romantic “I do’s” – and this stunning affair held at the breathtaking Shangri-La Paris?  Most definitely delivers on the WOW.  Think a talented team of vendors (hello, Et Voila WeddingsMadame Artisan Fleuriste, and French Grey Events), a beautiful gold and blush color palette and a candlelit ceremony that will make your hearts happy.  See every mesmerizing image captured by Catherine O’Hara right here in THE VAULT.

From Et Voila Weddings… Nicole and John came to us with an idea of planning a romantic, classic and elegant wedding in Paris. They had gotten engaged there a few weeks earlier and it was quite clear for them that Paris was where they wanted to say their “I Do’s.”

For this intimate destination wedding and these Paris lovers, it was clear to us that we needed to find a venue that was part of the city’s heritage, an historical Parisian venue. After looking at a few luxury hotels, museums and hotels, Nicole and John chose the Shangri La’s historical rooms to hold their special day. As they could not fly to Paris before the wedding, we sent them a lot of photos and they made their choice from pictures and trusting our knowledge of each venue.

Nicole had a clear idea of her colour palette from the start: she wanted natural tones, creams and whites. As the dinner table linen was going to be white, we agreed to add a bit of blush flowers to the arrangements to make them stand out a bit more. The florist did a great job on sourcing the perfect tones, especially the ranunculus which were perfect and encapsulating the whole colour palette on one flower.

At the Shangri La, ceremonies are usually held in one of their salons. Nicole was not very excited about the ceremony space available, and while on a logistical site visit we thought the rotunda (which is a large landing space) was a gorgeous space and definitely a great one for a ceremony, with its large stained glass, marbles and sculptures. It had never been done before and fortunately the venue agreed, as well as the couple. They had a truly unique, never done before wedding ceremony!

The couple was conscious that their party was quite small, and they had at heart to make sure that everyone would be entertained. During cocktails reception we arranged a photo booth with lovely Parisian props (huge success) and a caricaturist, like the ones you find in Montmartre. The guests loved it and all of them had their caricature made, to take home with them!

During dinner a band played some French oldies and some gipsy jazz music, which created the perfect chic, Parisian yet relaxed atmosphere the couple was after for their dinner reception.

At midnight, we planned a surprise group photo with sparklers at the exact time the Eiffel tower started to sparkle. It was magical!

Al Fresco Ojai Valley Inn Wedding

Is there anything better than a Ojai Valley Inn wedding? No, no there is not. Want proof? Just look at this pretty little party from Heather Kincaid and you’ll see exactly what I mean. With a talented vendor team (like TEAM Hair + Makeup and La Tavola Linen) It’s glamorous with a modern twist and we’ve got it all waiting for you in The Vault!

From The Bride…Nathan and I met while in college at the University of Southern California and most of our friends and family who have been such instrumental parts of our relationship over the past ten years still leave near Los Angeles. We loved the idea of having our wedding somewhere where many of our guests could stay on the same property for our wedding weekend so that we could spend as much time having fun with them as possible! We’d been coming up to Ojai with friends for years and Nathan had played in annual tennis tournaments there growing up, so the town was nostalgic for us both. It also didn’t hurt that the resort was absolutely beautiful, welcoming and a short drive from Los Angeles for most of our guests!

It was extremely important to us to have a meaningful and personal ceremony followed by an awesome dance party and reception. We chose to write personal vows and were also lucky enough to have Nathan’s uncle serve as our officiant, which made the ceremony feel incredibly intimate despite the fact that we had 240 guests. A significant number of our attendees were around our age, so great music was also key – our band was absolutely phenomenal and had people up dancing (unplanned!) during dinner. To cap off the night, we had late night snacks and a 90’s hip hop DJ for the last hour of the reception.

Although we wanted to have our reception indoors to avoid any nighttime noise restrictions, we really wanted the ballroom to incorporate many of the natural elements that make Ojai such a gorgeous place. Our florist, Camille, did an amazing job of coming up with fun ways to do this, from draping greenery from the chandeliers and bringing in large, beautiful olive trees and various shrubbery to frame the dance floor, to using lush, neutral florals with different textures in planters behind our furniture vignettes. Additionally, since we had opted for black tie attire, we wanted to combine a few traditional elements like my mom’s silver platters on our escort table and gold-rimmed glassware, with more organic components such as long wood tables, and small arrangements of fruit on the tables. And our wedding planners were 100% right that having great lighting was key to highlighting these details and completely transformed the room to give it a magical, outdoorsy feel.

The wedding planning process certainly can be a giant undertaking filled with lots of voices and opinions, and focusing on perfecting every tiny detail can be overwhelming. Our advice is to stay true to what is important to the two of you as a couple, and to put your energy into enjoying not only each other throughout the process and on the big day, but also all of your friends and family that have shown up to celebrate with you – that’s what makes a truly memorable wedding!
