Saturday Morning Movie: First Comes Match.com, Then Comes Marriage

We got a sneak peek on all the love between these two when we got to witness THE BIG QUESTION being asked – thanks to Focused Bliss Productions. And then once again, they were there to capture the magic unfold when these cuties said “I do” in front of their friends and family. If you ever doubt the success of online dating, look no further than this story right here, where fate and a little thing called Match.com made dreams into romantic reality.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/186300130 600 338]

From Focused Bliss Productions… Ben came across Janelle’s profile on Match.com and immediately knew he had to message her. He took her to the Smoking Goat in North Park San Diego, CA for their first date and couldn’t stop smiling the moment that she walked in the door. So it was only appropriate to propose to her at the same exact spot. Ben had Focused Bliss Productions, a leading wedding cinematography company in San Diego, CA, capture not only this candid and momentous event in which Janelle said YES, but also the romantic story that led up to this most special day (see here on Style Me Pretty!)!

Now, a year later, Ben and Janelle held an intimate gathering of friends and families to witness them officially tying the knot at the Mount Woodson Castle amidst the beautiful hills of Ramona, CA. With Southern California’s consistently warm weather, this winter wedding was held outdoors and it could not have provided a more stunning and breath-taking setting. The day was filled with wonderful and non-traditional details from Janelle’s sparkling wedding dress and shoes to the dessert bar of donuts that replaced the wedding cake to their grand exit at night into a classic getaway car.

The best moment of all, however, was when the couple spoke their vows under the golden-lit trees adjacent to the castle. They shared sentimental words with Ben thanking Janelle for saying ‘yes’ to their first date, and again for their second date – providing the opportunity to pave the path for their relationship to come. The officiant, a friend of the couple, could not have more aptly described this than by telling the guests “If you know these two together, you should know exactly what love should look like.” If you yourself want to know what true love looks like… just click play!

#SMPWedding101 – Your Guide to Authentic Engagement Photos

Most of us have never been in front of a professional camera, so when it comes time to smile away for those engagement pics, how do you ensure success and avoid any awkwardness? Fret not my friends, we have Still55 Photography on hand to share their insight on making sure those engagement photos capture the true you, as authentic as can be and let’s get real… make sure they’re mantle worthy!

Gel With Your Photographer

This is the most important rule of thumb! If you’re not feeling your photographer’s personality during the consult, you’re probably not going to vibe with them very well during your session… which will turn into an awkward nightmare with moments that you don’t ever want to experience. The last thing you want is a stranger that doesn’t understand you or your significant other photographing you in an uncomfortable way. Go with your gut, if you feel like you could be friends with your photographer, you’re on the right track. Remember your photographer is the only vendor you’ll spend your entire wedding day with, so make sure you click and it will set the tone for the rest of your experience.

Ask Questions

When you’re interviewing your short list of photographers asking lots of questions is essential but there is one question you must ask to ensure you avoid a bad experience. Ask the photographer about their process before AND during the session; if their response seems random and fake, that’s how your images will more than likely turn out. Great artists have great processes in creating great work. Our process is founded on learning a lot about our couples and talking at length about how they wish to be captured. We learn what they want and what they don’t won’t beforehand. We also work with them on finer details such as maintaining a cohesive color palette that blends with their style and home decor, along with wardrobe and locations. Working out all of this with your photographer will build confidence before you ever step in front of their camera.

Trust

Once you’ve worked out all the details leading up to your session, the next step is to trust the plan. Overthinking the details can take you away from being yourself. Make a plan and then trust that plan.

Be You

When the day finally arrives you should already have gelled with your photographer, know exactly what to expect and trust the plan, so now it’s time to be YOU. No matter what, most people are a bit nervous at the beginning – that’s okay! Your photographer should know how to quickly work out the nerves and help you both relax. When I first meet a couple during the intentional consult, I pay attention to their subtleties, whether they smile a lot, or if they’re affectionate towards one another. The subtle mannerisms are the real you and if you’ve picked the right photographer, they should pick up on that. If they don’t, it’s okay to to speak up and say, “Thats not me, or that’s not us”. Be real, be you!

Focus on Each Other – Not the Camera

Lastly, I always tell my couples to ignore me and focus on each other. My job is to observe them, not for them to observe my camera. Hold hands, make each other laugh, be with each other, together, in the moment. Do your best to quiet your thoughts and be present, focused on each other. Trust me, if you ignore your photographer and give all your attention to one another, you will create authenticity just by being yourselves.

Photography Advice: Joseph Rogero

2017 Bridal Beauty Looks to Inspire

We get downright giddy when it comes to hair and makeup; add in the bridal element and before we know it, we’re head over heels heart-eyed. So when Mar of TEAM Hair & Makeup wanted to share some fresh bridal beauty looks to inspire all you newly engaged ladies out there, we literally jumped at the chance. And of course we needed some gorgeous gowns to pair all the lovely looks with and Gabriella New York Bridal Salon came to the rescue. Matthew Ree of CLY BY MATTHEW worked his magic behind the lens and the finished results? Let’s just say, our Friday has been made.

The “No Makeup” Makeup Look

From Mar of TEAM Hair & MakeupWe created a fresh faced look with a touch of a moisturizing water-based airbrush foundation and a little highlighter (in a “C” shape from cheekbone to the upper brow) to give an instant glow! Braids are back and have been all year so we created this soft and romantic take on a side braid to give a more “dressed up” feel with an effortless appeal.

The Bella dress by Reem Acra

From Gabriella of Gabriella New York Bridal Salon This style really speaks to our Gabriella New York bride. It’s beautiful and feminine with just the right amount of sexiness and edge. Because of the plunging neckline and stunning lace detailing, we felt that it would lend itself to a variety of hair and make up styles and just couldn’t resist seeing what the experts came up with!

Updo + Bold Lip

From Mar of TEAM Hair & MakeupShine may be fun for your lips, but for a more dramatic and vampy look, go matte! It’s a bolder look which then requires less overall makeup. Many matte lipsticks have moisturizers in them nowadays so you won’t feel like you’re in the Sahara Desert anymore! The hair for this look may look like a hot mess but it’s on purpose! Pretty easy to do too! Just straighten your hair and add in a texture spray (salt sprays work great too) and do a fun bun for that red carpet hair!

The Palace dress by Lela Rose

From Gabriella of Gabriella New York Bridal Salon We love this gown because of its clean lines and very “of the moment” off the shoulder neckline in the front and then the surprise amazing train detailing in the back. This is a perfect gown to highlight a fabulous hair style because there is no detailing such as lace, appliques or beading to compete with.

Smokey Eyes + Crazy, Fun Hair

From Mar of TEAM Hair & MakeupConsider natural tones when applying “smokey” eyeshadow colors to your eyes. We like less smoke and more lashes – we LOVE fun and flirty false eyelashes! This is the key to this soft, yet dramatic, look. THM Hair Extensions were added in for the tousled “down do”. We waved the hair with a one-inch iron, wrapping wide pieces around the barrel and then allowed the hair to cool before literally tossing her hair up and down! Pin the sides up and you have some sexy waves, which will stay out of your face throughout your wedding. Or use the volume and texture to create an amazing braided updo for later (dancing time?!).

The Greta dress by Elizabeth Fillmore

From Gabriella of Gabriella New York Bridal SalonElizabeth Fillmore used this amazing hammered silk for her Greta gown, which takes her iconic sheathe silhouette to a whole new level. It’s the perfect gown for that sophisticated, chic, sexy bride. It felt like the hair and make up options for this gown were endless, which is why we chose it. We just knew that Mar from TEAM Hair + Makeup would do something amazing and they did!!!

Pretty Finishing Touches

From Mar of TEAM Hair & Makeup… Hair accessories are the perfect finishing touch to any hairstyle. When choosing a piece for your hairstyle, keep in mind that less is more! It’s called an accessory because it meant to add a little, not a lot. For example, this delicate chain piece is the finishing touch to a fun boho inspired style.

The Freesia dress by Elizabeth Fillmore

From Gabriella of Gabriella New York Bridal SalonThis dress is a personal favorite of mine due to its nod to the 70’s and subtly sexy style. I felt that this gown would be a great way to showcase that 70’s hair that we love so much – think modern day Farrah Fawcett! It’s just an overall incredibly chic look.

The Maple Tree Top + Venus Skirt by Lihi Hod

From Gabriella of Gabriella New York Bridal SalonThis gown is the epitome of boho chic. The silhouette of the bodice gives off a “casual” vibe, but the gorgeous beadwork steps it up to be more than bridal worthy! We selected this gown because it really lends itself to an updo in order to highlight the beautiful detailing on the bodice. It also presented a unique challenge to style the bride’s hair up without being too traditional!

From Mar of TEAM Hair & Makeup… When your groom sees you walking down the aisle, wouldn’t it be nice if he recognized you? This is why so many women say for their wedding day look “I just want to look like myself” and we agree! Bridal hair and makeup, for us at TEAM, is more about the natural enhancement of a bride rather than a total overhaul! And these looks are perfect examples!

P.S. More coming soon…

Are you as obsessed with these looks as we are?! Stay tuned, more coming soon, including all the details to “Get the Look” for this one!

P.S.S. Even more magic from Matthew Ree…

As if we needed another reason to love Matthew Ree, he’s hosting a photography workshop in Cuba in February… and there are only a few spots left! Head right here to get all the details and join in on what can only be described as a once-in-a-lifetime experience! P.S. SMP will be presenting virtually!

Family Focused Lake Tahoe Wedding

With a backdrop like Lake Tahoe, it’s hard to imagine that anything could go wrong. Oh it can. And it did. But even when this bride’s venue didn’t work out at the 11th hour, she managed to pull off an intimate, gorgeous wedding that will clearly left a mark on the hearts of her guests. With stunning photos by Carmen Santorelli, a design by Stems by Diana and a sense of love bursting through every image – this wedding is easy to fall in love with. Click here for more!

MustWatch_swash-01 [iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/193113270 600 338]

From the bride…Brandon proposed to me on a random Wednesday night in October of 2014, I turned the corner to three pumpkins carved with the words Will You Marry Me? After going back and forth with what we wanted for our wedding, we decided on an small destination wedding in Lake Tahoe. Once we realized that random October date fell on a Saturday this year, we knew it was meant to be.

We originally had found a private estate online and thought it would be perfect, so we booked it! Well…once we arrived in Tahoe for our last bit of planning in April, we realized it wasn’t going to work. Panic set in and we were frantically searching online for the perfect venue, since all of our vendors were already booked I had to keep our special October date! The stars lined up for us that weekend because we found a true hidden gem. The Tahoma Boathouse, perched right on the lake, filled with old Tahoe charm, a gorgeous lush lawn for cocktail hour, a stunning fireplace for s’mores later in the night, and just the right size for our guests.

Being from San Diego where the sun shines 365 days a year, I was so conflicted on whether we should have a tent or not. Better safe than sorry, right? We rented a clear tent and had huge wooden chandeliers draped with florals by the amazing Stems by Diana, Celebrations Party Rentals strung twinkle lights around the ENTIRE property, it was magical.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner from Butter + Salt, danced the night away under the stars, the guys enjoyed the Cigar bar and everyone loved the beignets for dessert! Photography and videography were the two most important things for us, once we spoke with Carmen of Carmen Santorelli Photography, we knew she was our girl! Dax Victorino Films completely blew us away with a same day edit that played at the bar during the reception, our guests couldn’t believe it!

On that same October night, exactly two years later, we were married by Brandon’s stepdad with 65 of our closest family and friends right on the lake. There was so much love surrounding us that weekend, it was an absolute dream. To say Lake Tahoe will always have a special place in our hearts is an understatement.

We’re in Love with the Love Between These Two!

I love when photographers capture other photographers; the images seem to sparkle a little more. So when Gert Huygaerts snapped these fellow wedding photographers for their engagement shoot in Paris, I knew we were in for a treat. And the way Marie and Matthieu describe their life together made it even better: “We are in love with love, shooting love is our job, we share a passion, we share a vision of love and we learn a lot together…” See it all go down in our Vault right here!

From Gert Huygaerts PhotographyGetting the question from another fine art film photographer to shoot their love bond in the amazing city of Paris, is a true honour to me… I felt really blessed to be chosen by Marie and Matthieu to immortalize their love this autumn. Marie and Matthieu met at work, on a wedding day where Matthieu was Marie’s second shooter. She totally did not expect to fall in love with this gentleman, but it happened. As sometimes there are more lows in life then highs, they were both in the same feeling that moment… But what happened then, can be captured in one sentence: “and then I met you…”

As Marie told me how she feels her job and life… It just sounds adorable: “We are in love with love, shooting love is our job, we share a passion, we share a vision of love and we learn a lot together. For once we wanted to be on the other side of the camera, to celebrate our love.”

A Darling Bakery-Set Engagement

This bride and groom-to-be are officially the cutest. They celebrated their upcoming nuptials over croissants and coffee, followed by a change of dress code for formal portraits under the Texas sun. Elan Makeup Studio worked her hair and makeup magic while Allen Tsai Photography captured the fun all along the way.

From the Bride…Our story began at Crossfit. It took about 2 months for Albert to finally muster the courage to ask me out, but it only took one date for us to become inseparable. Since then, our life has been a whirlwind of adventures, from music festivals to scuba diving in Costa Rica, and yet the best adventure was yet to come.

Each month on our anniversary, Al would always send me flowers. So when they arrived, it wasn’t out of the ordinary except for the card, which had hinted we were going to dinner and the theater. So that next night he took me to Uchi, where we’d had our very first date. On the way to the “show,” he pulled in front of Addison airport and surprised me with a sunset helicopter ride over downtown Dallas. When we landed and were about to walk inside, he grabbed my hand, dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife. And it’s still the best day of my life.

So when it came time to plan, we knew we wanted it to be intimate, simple and elegant which is why we chose our venue, Summerfield at Tate Farms due to it’s wild beauty and rustic feel. We wanted our photos to emulate our overall theme as well, which is why we decided on more intimate settings such as the coffee shop and where we will actually say I do. When it came to the outfits, we wanted to keep them classic, yet fitting for each location. We chose darker tones for the coffee shop to play off of the wood in the store, and then contrasted the field with more formal wear.

Now aside from the standard hand on the hip, our photo shoot posing skills were rather subpar. But through every step of the way, Allen provided continuous instructions and directions that made it look like we actually knew what we were doing. The beauty and love that he was able to capture in his photos are everything and more that we were hoping for.

When putting together our “dream team,” as we like to call them, we needed those who were able to bring our thoughts and ideas to life. We’ve been fortunate enough to work with such talented individuals along the way, from the custom design of my engagement ring with Shapiro Diamonds, the look and feel of my wedding with Keestone Events, and our absolutely gorgeous photos from Allen Tsai. We are looking forward to seeing everything come together for the big day!

Fireside dining and a table twinkling with candles is a complete scene setter for cozy holiday gatherings. Elleson Events and Hunter Ryan Photo put together this simple beauty and tucked inside are a few ideas completely worth stealing. A Mountain Wedding Packed With Color

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of visiting Beano’s Cabin in the Colorado, so I can personally tell you just how special this couple’s venue really was. Tucked in amongst the mountains with views like you wouldn’t believe, it’s an incredible spot to start your forever, especially when A Vintage Affair and Winsome And Wright are a part of the vendor entourage. Dive straight into the pretty right here.

From the Bride Whitney… We are that couple that met in a bar but ended up with a happily ever after! We shared some tequila and the rest is history. I can attest to the old saying, absence makes the heart grow fonder as we started our relationship overseas and it was over Skype dates, a twelve-hour time difference and longing to be back together that sparked our love. Our first date was when Eric came back to the states for one of his best friend’s weddings. We were inseparable ever since.

A few years later, Eric took me on a summer trip to one of his favorite places, Telluride, where he proposed at the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls…swoon! Having been born in Colorado, we visit often and it has always had a special place in our hearts. We knew right away a mountain wedding was a must!

Planning a wedding in Colorado while living in Florida required a relaxed and carefree attitude. We actually booked our wedding venue without ever seeing it in person! I was very lucky to have found the venue, our phenomenal photographer and exceptional florist on Instagram. I put all my trust in my vendors and let the experts take over. This gave results better than I could have imagined and definitely made things much easier for me.

We wanted our guests to feel relaxed yet be awed by an extravagant experience. We envisioned a dreamy, romantic and chic boho vibe. We chose to go with shades of neutrals and incorporate some natural elements. As everyone who knows me is aware I have an absolute love for lavender so we enjoyed including it into our decor, using fresh sprigs on our place settings, creating a signature lavender infused cocktail and designing a crate of dried lavender to hold our escort cards. The florals were soft with pops of color to keep a fun summer feel. I gave full rein to our florist and she put together incredible bouquets with an assortment of florals that were even accented with fresh mint! She also made a stunning hair piece that really complemented the style I was looking for.

The most memorable part of the wedding for us was writing and exchanging our vows in front of our dearest family and closest friends. The dinner was exquisite with four courses and complemented by some incredibly funny and heartfelt toasts! The party carried on as the band rocked the dance floor late into the night. We chose to take a special moment together at the end of the evening. As the guests were lining up outside for our exit we shared one last dance together, just the two of us, to Lover of the Light by Mumford and Sons. It was as if everything went into slow motion. It was such an incredible way to take in all the delight of the day. Our wedding was more magical than I ever could have imagined. It rained for almost two straight days before the wedding but hours before the ceremony it cleared and made for the most mystical backdrop as the clouds filled the mountaintops.

To anyone currently planning, start early if possible, absolutely get a planner, and let go completely of any expectations once the day arrives. It truly will be the best day ever!

This is How You Say “I Do” in Lake Tahoe

There’s something very, very special about saying “I do” in Lake Tahoe. Just ask Abby and Joey. These two sweeties (+ mountain lovers) chose the fabulous Heavenly Lake Tahoe to host their crazy cool celebration and the results were nothing short of amazing. Think a fun-filled weekend with friends + family, plus beyond breathtaking, well… everything. Scroll for every beautiful detail.

From Heavenly Lake TahoeFor Abby and Joey, deciding to get married at Heavenly in Lake Tahoe was an easy choice. Abby grew up on the south shore of Lake Tahoe skiing at Heavenly from age three, and Joey spent annual family trips at the lake. The first time Abby brought Joey to meet her family in Tahoe they went skiing at Heavenly and after an elaborate proposal at the top of Little Mountain in Washington, they knew the mountains were where they would say their I do’s.

On the day of the wedding, the bridal party arrived early, boarding Heavenly’s 6-person Gondola cabins for an epic 15 minute journey up to the Blue Sky Terrace at 9,123 feet, all the while taking in amazing views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Nestled amongst the granite boulders and towering Jeffrey Pine trees, Abby and Joey had their first look. This led into bridal party photos taken on the edge of the Blue Sky Terrace with a unique backdrop of pristine Lake Tahoe. The three-tiered flagstone patio overlooking the lake served as the ceremony location with the cocktail hour to follow. Log rounds accenting the rustic ceremony location were provided by Lavish Floral whom had them milled from the local Lake Tahoe forest. Rev. David Beronio Jr officiated a beautiful ceremony to join two families as one on a gorgeous July afternoon.

After a customized cocktail hour, the guests re-boarded the Gondola to be taken to the private Tamarack Lodge further up the mountain. While the bridal party finished up photos at Blue Sky Terrace, the guests enjoyed additional beverages while playing corn hole and ping pong on the outdoor patio spaces looking up at the ski slopes. Upon entering the reception venue, the guests were greeted by Blue Sky Events staff and were encouraged to provide the bride and groom with well wishes, wisdom, or marital advice in the custom made wish box.

The guests dined at solid wooden tables with lace runners featuring table numbers that provided images of the bride and groom at the age of the table number. The lavender and mint color scheme was accented with beautiful sunflowers and wildflowers to add a whimsical touch of Tahoe. Following a delicious three entrée buffet catered by Heavenly, the couple did a cupcake cutting from the elaborate dessert bar provided by Cakes by Grace, including custom cannoli’s honoring Joey’s Italian family tradition.

With the backdrop of the mountains behind them, the first dance was held under the large rustic chandelier to “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You”. Following the father daughter dance, the 120 guests took over the dance floor as “Uptown Funk” filled the air. The guests continued to dance to the tunes played by The Reno Tahoe DJ Company as Brandi from Indigo Photography escorted the bride and groom over to Tamarack chair and into the woods for sunset photos.

The ending of the night included a Gondola ride down the mountain while the moon and stars glowed over Lake Tahoe. Producing a wedding at 9,123 feet seems like a tall task, however these professional vendors worked so well together to make a magical experience for the guests and a seamless and relaxing experience for the bride and groom.

From Wedding AngelsI first met Katie and Remy, from Dubaï, one whole year before their wedding and took them on a day of visits in Provence. They were a sweet couple, really relaxed and looking for a lovely setting for their wedding where they could invite their guests to spend a week of fun with them wine tasting, chilling by the pool and basically just enjoying each others company. They fell in love with Château de Robernier and the countryside and picturesque landscapes surrounding the venue.

The next time I saw them was exactly one year later at Château de Robernier for their rehearsal. Their entire wedding was planned over email, Skype, phone and and WhatsApp. Although Katie and Remy were so low maintenance, un-fussed and easy going, their wedding was full of the little details that make a difference to the day. Katie carefully chose the corkscrew favors and wrapped them herself and decorated with heart shaped wooden name tags, they personalized their own ring box, the table names were also hand made photo collages of special milestones in the couples’ life together. The flowers were simple arrangements of soft peach colour roses, greenery and baby’s breath which really complemented the courtyard of the Château.

When I met up with them and their close family and friends for the rehearsal a few days before the wedding I knew that this would be a fun-filled love-filled event. And I could not have been more right.

The couple arrived in the area and rented a large country home with their bridal party one week before the wedding. They went wine tasting to select the wines for the wedding day from local vineyards around the Castle. Two days before most of their guests had arrived and were invited to a rehearsal dinner on the quaint main square in Cotignac, one of the most beautiful villages in France. They had a great evening mingling and partying until the early hours.

The wedding day was a lovely hot August Saturday. The atmosphere was so light all day, it was a pleasure to be around the bridal party while they were getting ready. The ceremony was led by a family member and the couple were surrounded by a very large bridal party, bridesmaids in blush/peach dresses and groomsmen in dark blue suits with peach bow-tie.

Champagne was served in front of the Castle with canapés before guests were invited to sit down to dinner in the courtyard lit with string lights and lots of candles and lanterns. The speeches were lovely and full of warmth and love.

After cutting the traditional French Croquembouche, Katie and Remy opened the ball in the beautiful Château ballroom and the party went on until dawn.

12 Reasons the Cold Shoulder Sweater Trend is on Fire this Winter

I don’t usually hop on fashion trend trains as I usually stick to the more classic and timeless pieces that work for me. But the one style trend I’m absolutely loving this year? Cold shoulders. Particularly in sweater format. Sure, it sort of defeats the purpose of a sweater, but it sure looks good—and here are 12 reasons I’ll be stocking up on some for myself.

From the Bride…Ralph and I met for the first time thirteen years ago during the first month of our freshman year at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Our first and only encounter in college was a brief lunch together with a mutual friend who introduced us.  During lunch, I must have mentioned to Ralph that I was thinking of jointing the equestrian team.  Not knowing my last name, “Equestrian” was the key-word he used to add me to his phone contacts list.  Ten years later while out with friends, I made eye contact with a handsome man across the room who then approached me and said “Hello, Frances the equestrian!” After my initial shock (I did not recognize him at all!) and his explanation of how we knew each other, we spent the rest of the night dancing and catching up on the past decade. After dating for two years, the first of which was long distance between Charlotte and Raleigh, Ralph proposed in the kitchen of our house with a beautiful cushion cut diamond ring that he had custom designed.

Ralph and I knew that we wanted an outdoor Spring wedding and searched several venues and towns for the perfect garden setting. We decided on Charleston, South Carolina, for its beautiful southern charm and history and its accessibility for out-of town guests. We chose the Governor Thomas Bennett House as our ceremony and reception venue after seeing its gorgeous gardens and close proximity to hotels and attractions on the Charleston peninsula. Our vision for the overall feel of the wedding was classic, clean, and timeless.

The design details gave our wedding a slightly nautical feel, with a navy and white color palate, striped bridesmaid dresses, and a sailcloth tent. One of my favorite unifying elements of the wedding was our custom monogram by One&Only Paper that made its appearance on everything from the wedding invitations and envelope seals, to cocktail stirrers and favor boxes. Other details, such as the dessert table covered in raspberry linzertortes, bieberli, and hazelnut chocolate, were a nod to Ralph’s Swiss roots.

We began our wedding celebration with a welcome party for friends and family aboard my family’s Hatteras motoryacht, the Liberty.  The boat was docked on the Ashley River and was decorated with Swiss flags, including pennants from Uri, Ralph’s family’s home canton. The festivities continued with a fishing trip for Ralph and the groomsmen and a bridal luncheon at 82 Queen for the women in the wedding. The rehearsal dinner was held the next night in the Planter’s Suite of The Mills House. It began with cocktails on the balcony overlooking Meeting Street and concluded with speeches from family and friends and a Peninsula Grill coconut cake for dessert.

We were fortunate to have a crisp, sunny Spring day for our wedding. The open-air ceremony was held on the semi-circular front lawn of the Governor Thomas Bennett House. My father walked me down the aisle and all of our siblings gave scripture reading and prayers. Directly following the  ceremony, our guests enjoyed cocktails in the back garden, including the Goombay Smash made from Bahamian rum we brought back on out most recent trip.

The reception was held under a sailcloth tent on the side lawn of the house and included Charleston-themed tapas stations, floral wreathes and runners, a six-piece band, and an oversized dance floor that was packed the entire night. After all of the bridesmaids tied the enormous Spanish-style bustle for the many layers of my wedding gown, Ralph and I made our reception entrance and danced the Shag to our first song. Following the cake cutting and a bit of mingling, I changed in to a shorter version of my gown to dance the rest of the night. The send-off was a parade of Swiss, American, North Carolina, and South Carolina flags waived by our guests.  Immediately after the reception, we continued the night with an after-reception cocktail party at The Mills House.
