All the Inspo You Need to Infuse Your Wedding with Modern Romance

If you fall into the “scared to go modern” bandwagon, this inspiration is guaranteed to change your mind. It balances the sleek sensibilities of a contemporary affair with elegant details that give it an all out romantic feel. Crafted by Rachael Ellen Events with photos by Kenzie Victory, take a peek at column gowns paired with ponytails, elegant gold details married with a pop of bloom, and then there’s the marble cake by Flour & Flourish. It all makes for a combo that will promote you to modern’s #1 fan.

For this shoot we were inspired by the combination of modern romanticism—the way a minimal stark backdrop pairs with lush, feminine flowers. The way simple gold tableware balances the pop of color marble cake. It was all about opposites and the way they work together to evoke a feeling of chic modernism without skipping out on feminine bridal details.

For the bride, we styled her in a sleek, modern, Halston Heritage dress knowing that it would pair perfectly with glowing bridal makeup. We kept her hair in a messy but chic pony tail for a twist on the traditional up-do and paired that with mod geometric earrings. We love the use of gold and yellow paired with muted neutrals seen in the flowers and the accessories. J. Brooks Jewelers pieces provided the perfect amount of classic timelessness to balance the modernity in the rest of the design.

For the tablespace, I love this take on soft blues, greys, and lavenders—they are the new neutrals. Who says it has to be white to go with everything? The blue really allows the golden hues to pop while allowing for minimal color in the dinnerware which gives that modern appeal. We kept the geometric taper candle holder as the focal piece as it gives the design a wonderful linear yet romantic feel. Hand calligraphy for the place cards kept to the romantic feel while the pink marble cake gave a fun and unexpected pop of color while taking advantage of the marble trend. We styled the cake without any blooms or decorations because we feel that statement pieces speak for themselves.

The invitation suite was again the perfect balance between modern and romantic with a bold type paired with soft floral details. Styled with bloom clippings, Frou Frou Chic ribbon, and a Mrs. Box, the details felt luxe, mod, and feminine all at once. Our groom wore a classic tux that was the perfect amount of tradition to balance our fashion forward bride.

Classic With a Twist Toronto Wedding

That incredible moment when a bride and groom see each other for the first time at the ceremony is difficult to put into words. Luckily we’ve got photographers like Mango Studios who capture that joy to perfection. They were behind the lens at Lauren and Sacha’s big day and there’s so much more to see in the gallery.

From Mango Studios and Bisous Events…. Here at Mango Studios, we are blessed to have one incredible couple after another, and Lauren and Sacha were no exception! Both with radiant personalities, contagious laughter, and impeccable style, these two had one of the most unforgettable, Casa Loma weddings we’ve photographed!

Lauren and Sacha had a clear vision of their wedding day from the start – a day surrounded by friends and family having lots of laughs, and sharing stories over great food and wine. They knew they wanted an organic element to the day and were extremely keen to have an outdoor/indoor location, not so easily found in downtown Toronto. Luckily, the moment they both saw the gardens and a new glass Pavilion at Casa Loma their vision fell into place.

Planned by Jessica Hoang from Bisous Events, this wedding was filled with golden details, elegant decor and custom, white and blush florals by Coriander Girl. The ceremony took place in the gorgeous observatory followed by summer cocktails in the garden. All two hundred of their friends and family then danced the night away in the stunning greenhouse with hanging chandeliers and live music by the St. Royals.

One of the most memorable moments? The couple’s happy faces when they saw each other for the first time during the ceremony! The bride kept her Kleinfeld gown a secret from soon-to-be husband (as many brides do) but the groom also kept his custom suit a surprise for his bride. Paired with amazing music and their happy tears, I couldn’t help but tear up myself!

We really wanted to capture the essence of Lauren and Sacha’s dazzling personalities and tell a story of their big day and that’s why we took a candid approach to their wedding photography. By incorporating storytelling and editorial elements, we strived to capture their emotions and the warmth they shared with their family and friends in every shot.

Lauren and Sacha, thank you for all your wonderful smiles and stories on your wedding day! We wish you many long and happy years of marriage!

Greens Turned a City Wedding into a Garden Oasis

It came as no surprise when Pantone announced greenery as the new IT color of 2017 because it’s a trend that’s gaining serious momentum in the wedding world. Case in point –  couples like Dylan and Dani who are gravitating towards designs filled with natural greens for a look that brings the outdoors in. Sinclair & Moore brought their “urban garden” vision to life and O’Malley Photographers captured every last bit.

5 Must-Know Tips to Avoid Over-Bronzing Your Face

Bronzer is a staple in my beauty routine year round but often times, with my slightly lighter skin tone during the winter, I have to remind myself not to overdo it. Raise your hand if you’ve ever walked out of the house looking like an oompa loompa without knowing it until hours later? Guilty. No more friends—with these 5 tips in your back pocket, over-bronzing will be a thing of the past.

Pick the Right Shade

It might not be that you’re putting too much bronzer on, but that you’ve got your shade all wrong. When in doubt, always go a shade lighter than you think. For fair skin, duos or mosaic palettes in pale pink and tan are your ticket. For medium and olive skin tones, go for warm undertones—peach shades are perfect for you. For darker skin tones opt for deeper hues with accents of shimmer to bring out your natural glow.

The Correct Consistency

If you’re finding that by the end of the day your ‘tan’ looks a little smeared like watercolor on your face, you might have the wrong consistency. Powder isn’t right for everyone and can sometimes look cakey if you’ve got combination or oily skin. Try a cream bronzer if you run into this problem! On the other hand, if you’re finding that cream doesn’t cut it, try a matte bronzer without shimmer like this one for smooth results.

Use the Right Brush

One of the biggest mistakes made in applying bronzer is using the wrong brush. Think of it like this… dense = drama, loose = lovely. The denser brush you use, the more concentrated your bronzer will be on that area of your face. Bronzing is all about giving yourself a sweep of color, not full coverage like foundation, so you’ll want to go with a looser, angled brush like this one for that just-walked-off-the-beach look. Also, remember to give that brush a tap before applying as well!

Mind Your Lighting

We’ve all been there… it’s a dark rainy morning and the lighting in your bathroom is terrible to say the least. When you get to your brightly lit office? You look like you let a 5 year old have a go at your face with the makeup brush. Natural light is ideal when applying your bronzer, but when those sweet sun rays aren’t shining, warm white light, like LED, is the next best thing.

Less is More

We’ve all heard the saying and it definitely rings true when it comes to bronzer. In most cases, if you look like you’re over-bronzing, that’s exactly what you’re doing. Focus on the main areas of the face that naturally tan—the forehead, cheekbones, along your jawline and if you prefer, a touch down the bridge of your nose. A great way to make sure you’re not overdoing it is by practicing on just one side of your face so you can see exactly how much drama you’re adding.

The Bouquet (+ Inspiration Sesh) of Your Dreams

Lovely Leaves has done it again, and this time it’s in the form of a stunning inspiration sesh that seriously won’t quit with the prettiness. From the beautiful captures from Dani Cowan to those watercolor invites from Studio W Designs to your new fave bouquet (seriously), it’s an amazing ode to yellow that you have to see. Head to THE VAULT right this way.

From Lovely LeavesThe yellow dahlias caught my eye and I knew we had to do something with them which led into this gorgeous day. The Phoenix Ballroom is perfect for any season, as are the bright lovely yellows paired with beautiful peach and creams which pop throughout this ballroom wedding inspiration.

The Phoenix boasts stunning backdrops including a rich nude wall, a massive brick fireplace and sweet greenery growing up the outer brick. The wrought iron chandeliers are an added bonus. Tying in with the wooden chivari chairs we incorporated wicker chargers, a basket for boutonnieres, a vintage wooden table and a grapevine wreath. For fabrics, we wanted to stay neutral with sheer voile and soft beige linen.

The gorgeous two-piece gown featured lace long-sleeved top nice for the currently cool Texas temperatures and a cream crepe skirt. Simple makeup showcasing her natural beauty and a loose updo were exactly what we imagined. Amber candles created ambiance in an already-sunlit space. Lily’s Cakes designed a soft buttercream cake paired with a smaller naked cake for the occasion which were accented with peach Campanella roses and yellow ranunculus. Arrangements featured the yellow dahlias of our dreams, the Campanella roses, ranunculus, jasmine, ivory astilbe and spray roses, rich peach amaryllis, Queen Anne’s lace and precious chamomile.

Studio W is my all time fav for stationery and she designed gorgeous watercolor menus and a matching stationery suite. Film was the only way to go and Dani Cowan never fails to impress; it seemed like forever before the scans came back, but so worth the wait. Our final setting was about a block away from the ballroom where so many of our brides go for portraits. The Waco Suspension Bridge is a local monument just minutes away from Baylor University and the Magnolia Silos. The bridge and surrounding areas feature romantic stone arches, walls of lush greenery below and the smooth Brazos River. The entire area makes you want to fall in love.

A Ceremony Set in an Enchanted Forest

Lea and Michael wanted to wed in what felt like an enchanted forest, so the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden was their perfect spot. Nestled in the Redwood Grove, they shared vows amongst the ones they love and let nature serve as the ultimate decor. Sorella Muse photographed and you can see the entire day right here.

From the Bride… We weren’t sure where we would get married but knew we wanted an outdoor venue nestled amongst the trees. So when we arrived at the Redwood Grove at UC Berkeley Botanical Garden, I knew we had found our place.

As you walk in it feels like you’ve entered an enchanted forest. As you continue to walk towards the ceremony site, the trees clear and you are greeted by a lovely little amphitheater hugged by redwood trees. At that moment we both knew it was perfect!

When you are a creative by profession, planning your own wedding feels like working on a masterpiece. I didn’t really have a theme for our wedding, but I knew I wanted to play off the natural beauty of the garden. I took inspiration from the redwood trees and interesting plants that grow all throughout. The rustic sticks in the table arrangements were inspired by the Redwood Grove. The guest favors were small potted succulents with wood slices engraved with our names and wedding date. Even the lace details on my dress were delicate flowers that looked more natural than feminine or girly.

I kept the color palette simple and soft using champagne and ivory to contrast with the deep green and brown tones of both the ceremony and reception sites. The bridesmaids wore champagne-colored dresses and the groomsmen wore navy. We used deep red to add small pops of color throughout.

For the reception we wanted our guests to have fun and discover a place some never knew existed. We kept the guest list to an intimate group of family and friends to share the day with, to laugh over a few funny stories and dance the night away. The next day, we were whisked away to our honeymoon, which was a perfect end to the magical day.

From the Photographer… It was such a pleasure photographing Lea and Michael’s beautiful wedding at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden! I absolutely love fall weddings, when it’s still warm enough to say “I do” outdoors but just chilly enough as the sun sets for a cozy dinner indoors.

As sweet and intimate as each part of the day felt, my favorite moment came towards the end of the evening, when the traditional bouquet toss would usually happen. Lea chose to re-interpret this bridal tradition. As a photographer who sees so many wedding celebrations, there’s nothing I love more than putting a personal spin on wedding traditions. Instead of tossing her flowers, Lea chose to gift them to her grandmother, to honor the strong marriage and enduring love that her grandparents had shown was possible and which she was inspired by, as we should all be. It was one of the sweetest things I had ever seen! Her grandparents then shared their own dance on the dance floor, and it made me remember that weddings are just the first day of a long adventure you embark upon with the one you love.

An Unexpected Color Palette for a Cozy Ranch Wedding

Some of the biggest wedding planners in the industry predicted greenery + bold color choices as top trends for 2017, so Jahnel and Hiro were officially ahead of the curve. With Joy Proctor by their side, they embraced the tones of fall with deep burgundies, browns and pops of red, gold and blush. Vendors like SPARK Creative EventsFound Vintage Rentals and La Tavola brought the details together and Jose Villa blew us away, per usual, with images that’ll stop you dead in your tracks.

From Joy Proctor DesignJahnel and Hiro chose the historic San Ysidro Ranch for their wedding, surrounded by their closest friends and family. They exchanged vows under an oak with hanging chandeliers, with blankets for guests to get comfortable during the ceremony.

After being pronounced man and wife, they invited their guests to take a glass of champagne and take a group photo together before making their way to cocktail hour. Once the sun set, guests were invited into a beautiful candlelit cottage for dinner. Sitting on a loveseat in front of a roaring fireplace, the couple thanked they guests for coming.

Jahnel chose a color palette that highlighted the fall season with deep burgundies, browns and pops of gold and blush. The beautiful invitations were a beautiful gold foil with papers and calligraphy in the color palette. For flowers, rich reds, cremes and blushes were chosen in a beautiful array of garden varieties. Natural linen tablecloths ran down the long tables atop which stone chargers, candles and beautiful floral arrangements sat.

A Classic Vineyard Wedding, Fireworks + Fur Baby Included

You know what’s better than a classic vineyard wedding? A classic vineyard wedding complete with ballroom reception and a seriously cute fur baby… in a tux. Now add a surprise fireworks display orchestrated by the groom and it’s basically the best wedding ever, all captured by the amazingly talented Erin Stubblefield Weddings And Portraiture. See every beautiful moment in THE VAULT.

From the Bride… The morning of our wedding started out like any ordinary day; it was just the two of us and our dog, Otis. It was important to us that we had some quiet time before the busy day ahead and it wasn’t long before my bridesmaids, mom, and future mother-in-law arrived to pick me up for hair and makeup. Getting glammed up with my girls will forever be a special memory for me to look back on.

The morning rushed by with all of the little things that tend to come up at the last moment. I consider this fortunate because I was nervous, excited, and anxious for my first look with my fiancé, Chris. It was a moment that had been building over months of planning, finding the perfect dress, the makeup, and the bouquet. A moment that I would catch myself daydreaming about and one that had finally arrived. With a tap on the shoulder, he turned around and I could see the sparkle in his eyes and the smile on his face. Every minute of planning was worth it for that single moment.

Early on in our planning, Chris and I decided to write and say our own vows. To us, if we were going to promise things to each other, then it only made sense that we should write and say those things. Reading our vows was perhaps the most emotional moment of the day and while I can’t quite remember the details of that moment, I was assured by several guests that our words were inspiring and heartfelt. We had a very brief ceremony and exited to the music of Love Actually, one of our favorite films. Outside we were quickly joined by the rest of our party, but needed a moment to ourselves to reflect and absorb. Twenty minutes alone debating if we should head in or just run away together might sound a little crazy, but we wanted to cherish and live in that moment for as long as we could. We of course opted to stay, well because, it was now time let our hair down as they say in a place that we spent months planning to prepare.

Chandler Hill is one of the most elegant and romantic venues in St. Louis and their team, with help from our florist, Les Bouquets, made it absolutely gorgeous. Being born and raised in California, I never thought I would find a Napa-esque venue in the heart of the Midwest. I cannot stress enough how much the flowers added to the look and feel so if I have one piece of advice to give it’s to go nuts with your florist. It was important to me that our reception be simple and elegant. Lots of greens with succulents and eucalyptus, lit by candlelight created a very inviting atmosphere. True to myself, I tastefully (I think) incorporated squirrels into the theme which had some guests scratching their heads and others whispering, “classic Stacy”. I just have to say that squirrels are one of the cutest of the woodland creatures and as such deserved to be part of the natural feel I was trying to create.

After toasts with tears and partially eaten dinners, Chris and I walked out to the deck for our first dance under the stars. We danced to our favorite version of “Beyond the Sea” with vocals from Kevin Spacey. It was a dream! After our dance, a dip, and a kiss, fireworks exploded in the sky…literally! Lo and behold, Chris surprised me with a well-timed fireworks show as my bridal gift. Leading up to the wedding I spent hours poring over images to find the one that encompassed the wedding day I wanted. I’m so lucky that the day was everything I dreamed it would be and more. The amazing work done by Chandler Hill, Les Bouquets, and Celebrating Life Cakes gave me that perfect day, and our photographer Erin Stubblefield beautifully captured it in a way that far exceeded any of the pins I saved.

A Master Florist at Work…alongside a Master Photographer

When it comes to planning a wedding, it’s so incredibly easy to get lost in the minutia. The lists and the must-do’s. But the journey of planning a wedding, in it’s purest form, is so much more that. It’s family. And love. And unabashed artistry at a level that is hard to even find the words to describe. And today, we get to indulge in just that. With an incredible behind the scenes look at the talent that is Laetitia C. Fleurs d’atelier through the lens of Oliver Fly Photography as Laetitia designs a tablescape inspired by the gorgeous restraint of the Provence countryside. Click here to see even more loveliness.

From Laetitia C. Fleurs d’atelierFor this romantic engagement dinner, set in the courtyard of an ancient Mas, I chose a blue color palette with some accents of white. I wanted to reflect, in my choice of flowers and colors, the very deep bond between our couple, Joy and Matthew. Blue seemed like the perfect color for that occasion as it symbolizes true love, purity, serenity, intimacy and deep trust and Delphinium flowers are a symbol of new beginnings.

What I liked most about these arrangements is that they’re nearly all foraged from the garden and hills around the Mas. I harvested what was right there and the different hues of green I found complimented perfectly the varied blues of the Delphiniums and Gentians. I used some heirloom brass vessels and candle holders to compliment the venue and the beautiful ancient and textured stone table. I really think that breaking away from the traditional flower vases makes a whole difference and gives a genuine and charming touch to the arrangements, whatever the occasion.

This ‘all blue’ look is a bit of a ‘think outside the box’ statement today as, for romantic and wedding florals, we are more used to seeing pastel colors like pale pinks and blush tones. But these have been around for quite a few years and lately, flower colors seem to get a little bolder in the new trends with deeper and moodier shades. Blue, along with berry tones and Merlot browns and reds, are slowly making their entrance in the flower trends.

I personally enjoy seeing blue coming back in the picture as, for centuries, it was the color associated with weddings. Brides wore blue in ancient Rome to symbolize love, modesty and fidelity. It was a very popular color in the wedding attire until the late 19th century.

And, as the proverb says “Marry in blue, lover be true”.

From Oliver Fly PhotographyAs a wedding photographer, I am always honored to be the privileged witness of the beautiful floral arrangements from florists/floral designers. I always see the finished result of a wedding day and we all know how much hard work actually went in to creating some floral decor with bouquets and centerpieces. However, I never had the opportunity to see the Behind The Scenes of those talented creatives because during that time we are photographing other moments with the bride and groom.

Love for the beauty and wildness of nature, my father’s legacy, one of my greatest inspiration combined with the encounter of a talented florist gave birth to the editorial « Florist at Work ».

As a result, I had the fabulous opportunity to travel from Paris to Provence to capture the deep love for flowers and creativity of the french florist Laetitia C. Fleurs d’atelier.

With more than hundreds and hundreds weddings under her belt, she’s running a successful business with a modern and stylish feel to her creations staying inspired by the beauty of Provence.

Such a privilege to capture her flower recipe for success when crafting some beautiful floral arrangements for a romantic engagement dinner in the courtyard of a lovely « Mas », a traditional provencal house nested in the middle of lavender fields.

With an approach that places creativity, effortless, care and attention to details above all, Laetitia revealed that shades of blue could be one of the new trend for the next season.

From Betsi EwingRachel and Donny knew their big day would be best celebrated on the water – they both grew up on Long Island fishing, beaching, boating and surfing. So when The Surf Lodge in bohemian cool Montauk became available for their September date, they jumped right in! A warm, late summer breeze blew through the entire gorgeous event, and Rachel chose bright turquoise and muted gold accessories with loads of garden roses, bushing bride, ferns and monstera leaf to punctuate the laid back Cali retro style of the venue. “It was the perfect place for us and the best night of our lives” Rachel says. “It really represented us.”

Proof that You Can’t Go Wrong with a Black + White Wedding

I’m a classic girl at heart when it comes to weddings and to me, there’s nothing more timeless than a day decked out purely in black and white. Sure, I had a bit of peachy blush in my own big day, but when I see a colorless fete like this one planned by Amore Events by Cody? I’m convinced that (even on a rainy day) this good ol’ combo does the trick. See more captured by Gianny Campos in The Vault!

From Gianny Campos Photography… News anchor Eve (Tannery) Russo and owner of Capital Printing Corp. Nolan Russo, from New Jersey, were married in a rustic-chic wedding at Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards in Virginia. The couple, in their 30s, had been to every banquet hall, country club, and hotel in their area for weddings that were all relatively similar, so they wanted their wedding venue to be something different, memorable, and intimate. The wedding was a “drive-able destination,” so guests could spend a few days celebrating the couple and getting to know one another. The big day marked the end of a rare, non-stop week of rain, but it didn’t dampen what turned out to be an unforgettable wedding. Because of the soggy ground, and Eve’s meteorologists at work warning her of potential downpours, the couple chose to get married under Pippin’s long porch, which still overlooks the mountains. It provided a comfortable and stunning venue for the ceremony. The clouds ended up proving to be the perfect backdrop, with a majestic steam developing over the mountains and the colors beautifully complimenting the couple’s classic and glamorous black and white color scheme. Because family is so important to Eve and Nolan, they really wanted guests to “feel the love,” and they did that through beautiful paper and signage by Poppy and Scooter with personal touches including a custom-designed monogram, lyrics from the couple’s “song,” clever sayings, and even funny hashtags. Amore Events by Cody created the most glamorous and inviting space for the reception, with candles and greenery (some of which Cody forged herself) and luscious floral arrangements on every table. Stunning lanterns hung from the ceiling to create the perfect ambiance. Guests were able to enjoy various areas – the dance floor, a cigar bar, a fire pit, and even a local donut truck, where workers served fresh, organic donuts for dessert…a “sweet ending” for what was truly a magical day.

Monet Inspired New York City Wedding

They say that you can find inspiration around every corner. In a shop window or an old storybook, perhaps tucked inside of a painting. And this couple did just that…taking their cue from Monet then allowing a team of amazing vendors including – photographer, Charlie Juliet | planner, Ang Weddings and Events | cake designer, Nine Cakes | hair and makeup artist, Facetime Beauty | DJ, 74 Events – to turn their vision into its gorgeous reality. Click here for even more!

From Photographer, Charlie Juliet… Lindsey and Alan are two Princeton graduates who fell in love and decided happily ever after was the next chapter for them. After Alan proposed and the two started wedding planning, they quickly fell for The Harold Pratt House on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It’s old world charm and architecture was the perfect fit for their classic and glamorous wedding.

Ang Weddings and Events planned the whole celebration to a T and helped Lindsey and Alan orchestrate their dream “Monet Inspired” Summer wedding. Lindsey took my breath away walking the streets of the Upper East Side wearing a stunning Ines Di Santo gown paired with a gorgeous lace cathedral veil. She was just the most beautiful bride and so glamorous.

The entire day was like a dream come true, I remember gasping every time I walked into a different room. Quatre Coeur created the most beautiful Monet garden inspired flower arrangements filled with hydrangeas, ivy, lilacs, and roses while green ivy lined the staircase leading guests up to a private intimate dinner.

The night didn’t end there, guests got to enjoy Lindsey and Alan’s favorite desserts by Creative Edge Parties while they danced the night away. It was a picture perfect day and one of my favorite portraits of Lindsey and Alan is when we snuck outside together at the end of the night and got some classic New York City nighttime portraits as the cabs passed them by. It was the perfect ending to their romantic wedding day!
