10 Tips to Pulling Off Mismatched ‘Maids Without Looking Like a Hot Mess

Long gone are the days when every bridesmaid had to be in the same dress in the same color with the same accessories and the same beauty look — thank goodness!  Now, it’s all about that mismatched look. But how do you pull off mix ‘n match bridesmaids without your bridal party looking like a hot mess? Kelsey Doorey, founder and CEO of Vow to Be Chic, the online boutique of rentable bridesmaids’ dresses (including Lauren Conrad’s Paper Crown) is here to help.

one

Choose a general color, like blue, and let your ‘maids choose their favorite shades for a trendy mix and match look.

two

Choose a universally flattering color that goes with a variety of skin tones, such as grey, beige, champagne and blush. These neutral colors are a safe way to suit everyone and are perfectly on trend — they also go great together!

three

Floral dresses are in right now, but sometimes less is more. Consider dressing only your maid of honor in a floral print like the Jenny Yoo Nyla and the rest of your girls in a matching solid shade.

four

If you’re going to have your maids all wear a different color a good way to keep things cohesive is with the florals as well as their hair styles. This will give the girls a unified look while still being unique.

five

Sequin gowns are a great way to add a little sparkle to your wedding. Mixing a rose gold sequin gown, like this Theia, with a solid blush is a great way to achieve a fun mismatched look.

six

Mixed metallics is also a fun, modern look. Mix a rose gold option with a solid gold or choose a color and let your girls pick their favorite dress in that metallic hue.

seven

If you choose one solid color for all the girls, a great way to add some diversity is by having each girl choose their favorite neckline — off-the-shoulder, halter, strapless or asymmetrical!

eight

Another great option is the Jenny Yoo Aiden dress which is a convertible dress that allows your girls to wear it anyway they like! The long front and back panels can be styled into more than 15 unique looks!

nine

I wouldn’t recommend mixing up the lengths of the dresses — if you are going to go short have all your girls wear a short dress to keep the photos cohesive.

ten

Adding a mix of fabrics and textures is another way to achieve a great look. For example, mix lace, cotton, chiffon, brocade and sequins, but in the same color palette for a sophisticated look.

Sunday Morning Waffle Making Engagement

Does life get any better than Sunday morning waffles with the one you love? Absolutely not. At least in my book. Photographed by Rebecca Yale, this at-home engagement captures that exact sentiment with everyday moments Aisha and Ben will treasure for a lifetime. Head to the full gallery this way, and if you’re newly engaged kick off the wedding planning adventure right here.

From Rebecca Yale… I often describe engagement photos as a little slice of life, capturing a little piece of who you are at this special time in your life- young and in love right before you say your vows. Years later these photos can become just as special as your wedding day portraits and become a little time capsule for future generations. Ben and Aisha absolutely embraced this idea and chose to have their engagement session be a typical Sunday morning, which for them means making waffles and enjoying them together in their beautiful sun-drenched backyard.

From the bride… On our very first date, we bonded over food. Aisha was worried Ben would judge her for ordering a veggie burger at a burger place and launched into a lengthy, nervous explanation. After a beat, Ben casually remarked that he had never had a burger in his life and was also ordering the veggie burger. We both let our a sigh of relief and have continued to weirdly and accidentally order the exact same thing as each other ever since. When it comes to food, we’re always in sync. We love cooking together.

We actually had our worst meal ever on the night Ben proposed. We were in a small city in England, and while the proposal was lovely, the meal afterward was … not. We started laughing as soon we took our first bites. It was actually great because it made the meal more memorable. We’ll definitely never forget that toasted beans ravioli. Yes, “toasted beans ravioli” is as upsetting as it sounds.

When we started planning our wedding, we liked the idea of using cooking as a metaphor for building a life together. We’re blending lives, families, and cultures — creating our own recipe for love and happiness. Our photographer Rebecca suggested our kitchen as a setting and it immediately made sense. Every Sunday, we make waffles (Aisha has always been a fan and Ben is a recent (and enthusiastic) convert), so we just did what we normally do — except way better dressed than usual and with a camera documenting our every move. You know: normal, casual Sunday! Despite the fact that it was an engagement session, Rebecca has a very natural, documentary style, so there were many moments when we were able to forget about the camera and just be ourselves. Those are our favorite shots. They show what makes us light up: each other & really good waffles!

Blushing, Dessert Filled Valentine’s Party at Home

We’re pretty sure that Valentine’s Day is Style Me Pretty’s signature holiday. Our colors are actually blush and bashful (or pink and pink!). But to us, sharing the love is more about the company you keep than anything else, whether that’s you and your hubs or a gaggle of your favorite girlfriends. So this V-Day is all about sharing the love. With a really pretty party and REALLY good food.

THEME

PINK! Okay, and gold and blacks and well, romance. We wanted to capture the sweetness of such a holiday with the luxury of throwing a little party at home, with those you love. So we wanted pure oppulance paired with whimsy, we wanted casual sitting pretty next to all out fancy pants.

DECOR

Matte champagne sequin tablecloths set the tone and were placed on the coffee table and dessert table. We had a fire in fireplace to set the mood. And a mini champagne tower on white tray on coffee table to set the glam factor. We swapped out our regular pillows with pretty pink varieties and sprinkled in our pink desserts everywhere we could find a flat surface.

FLOWERS

Our flowers were generously donated by FiftyFlowers. And while we did get them for free, there are no amount of amazing favors that could justify the crazy incredibleness of the blooms themselves and the gracious people who supplied them.

We went with roses of every variety we could think of from garden to spray, sprinkling in tulips and delicate greens along the way. We jam packed as many as we could possibly fit into black urns to up the organic glam factor and placed them around the room so guests could enjoy them from every corner.

FOOD

  • Chocolate Tarts…We whipped up these chocolate tarts, then poured some salted caramel sauce on top.
  • Gilded Chocolate Gems…We melted white chocolate, dyed it with a little food coloring, then set it in gem chocolate molds, topping it with edible gold leaf. YUM.
  • Rose Cupcakes. Instead of baking our cupcakes in a cupcake pan, we placed wrappers on a sheet pan and scooped an ice cream scoop full of batter into each. The batter pushed the wrapper out a bit so that we had a wider, slightly thinner cupcake, perfect for our rose frosting! Use a Wilton 2D tip to achieve the rose topper.
  • Cheesecake Mouse. We’ll have the full recipe coming up later today but think cream cheese, white chocolate, whipping cream and a heavy dose of pure yum.
  • Double Chocolate Cookie Cups with Milk. Full recipe coming up later but these were the star of the day FOR sure. We used silicone baking molds to create chocolate cookie cups. Then we dunked them in chocolate, then in toffee and finally topped them off with ice cold milk.
  • Ombre Meringue Kisses. Which are as delightful as they sound. Pillowy little nuggets of meringue that were a total breeze to make.
  • Chocolate Ganache Cake – A chocolate on chocolate orgy. Yeah, I said it. This was the best cake I’ve ever had (toot, toot) and is a combination of two different recipes that we’ll be sharing this week.

FUN

Every good party has a little activity to keep the mood festive. Not necessarily full on crafting, but just pretty cards set out so that guests could tackle their Valentine’s…writing sweet notes and hand addressing envelopes.

We had cocktails & desserts in the living room. Small “station” tables (desserts, valentines, and champagne/eating tables) were set throughout the house. And as our guests left, we gifted them with little watercolor boxes of homemade chocolates.

Do You Really *Have* to Invite Them to Your Wedding?

One of the first steps in planning a wedding is making your guest list. After all, the number of guests you invite will determine multiple big-day decisions, including your venue. Your parents, siblings, grandparents and BFFs are obviously the first to make the list, but what about your freshman year roommate? Or your work wife? Finalizing your guest list is no easy task, but we’re here to help with a list of questions that will take the headache out of wedding planning — for now, at least.

[dotted]

The Considerations

Are they family?

Are they living with or seriously dating a member of your family?

Are they married or engaged to a member of your family?

Are they dating one of your bridesmaids or groomsmen?

Have you been friends more than 10 years?

Have you spoken to them in the past year?

Do you see them on a regular basis?

Have you seen them within the last six months?

Do you like them?

Does your future spouse like them?

Will it be awkward if you don’t invite them?

Will you care if they get mad they’re not invited?

Were you (or will you) be in their wedding?

Were you (or will you be) invited to their wedding?

Did they help you plan your wedding?

Were they there for you during your bridezilla moments?

Are they a coworker you hang out with outside of work?

Have they always supported your relationship?

Are they always one of the first on the dance floor?

Have you told them at any point they’re invited?

Are they a fun drunk?

Would you be OK if they end up in the background of your pictures?

Are they fun?

If You Can Check Off 1-5

Unless you’re having a 500-person wedding, save your $150 per head plate for someone else. If it’s not going to cause major drama or a huge family rift, you can skip them.

If You Can Check Off 6-10

Consider these your “B List” guests. You don’t have to invite them, but if, a few weeks after sending out your gorgeous invitations, you receive more regrets than expected, consider sending your B List guests an invitation.

If You Can Check Off 11-15

The short answer? Yes, you should probably invite them. Obviously, we can’t force you to invite anyone, but if you want to avoid to avoid uncomfortable situations and drama on your big day (and trust us, you do), you should send them an invite.

If You Can Check Off More than 16

To state the obvious, yes, you need to invite them. But, chances are if you can answer yes to more than 16 of the questions above, you already knew that.

Saturday Morning Movie: Romantic Wedding on the River Bank

On a hot Southern day, these two cuties said “I do” surrounded by their friends and family and Iris Films captured it all. They captured the smiles and sweet kisses, the gorgeous Georgia sights, the nonstop dancing and most importantly, the love between these newlyweds. If this doesn’t make you a fan of Southern weddings, I just don’t know what will! Warm up with this romantic wedding right this way!

From Iris FilmsThere are not too many weddings that get every single detail nailed down to perfection. This was an absolute exception. It was my first time in Augusta, GA, and I loved it. Some of our favorite weddings are outdoor ones and to see Lindsey and Brandon covered in lush greenery while saying their “I do’s” next to the scenic rivers was something to remember. And these guys know how to party!! They were ready to go from the second we arrived until the sun set and long after. From custom airbrushed snap backs, a naked wedding cake, and some killer performances (including one frpm L and B themselves), it was a day to remember for sure. Enjoy!

#SMPWedding101 – Choosing Your Wedding Jewelry

My grandmother wore a beautiful little ring on her pinky finger when she got married, and my mom wore the same one. So when it came time for me to walk down the aisle, it was a given, and as I slipped that petite piece on my finger, I felt the specialness wash over me. The jewelry you don on your wedding day instantly sparkles a bit more and Lauren Hartman of Trousseau Style couldn’t agree more – and she’s here sharing more tips and ideas for making those special stones shine even brighter!

Go Classic

Your wedding jewelry should be something you cherish for years to come, not a reminder of the season’s hottest trends. Opt for timeless pieces that complement your dress and offer a touch of sparkle. Vintage or vintage inspired pieces are usually a safe bet as the trends have already withheld the test of time. When it comes to gems, you can’t go wrong with pearls. Bright luminous pearls stand out and complement your white dress. Plus, they never go out of style.

Mind the Metals

Your wedding jewelry doesn’t have to match the metal of your engagement ring and wedding band; mixing metals is totally acceptable, and welcomed! But, if you have major metal accents or beading on your dress or shoes, the metal on your jewelry should match.

But Not Too Much…

Your engagement ring and wedding band do not have to match the metal of your husband’s wedding band. You’ll be wearing these rings for the rest of your life, so go with what reflects your personality!

Switch It Up

For the style conscious bride who is just dying to spice things up, consider switching up your look for the reception! Make a statement as a new Mrs. with bold earrings or necklace.

Check Out What You Already Own

Your wedding jewelry can become some of your favorite, most treasured pieces in your jewelry box. Not only do they spark memories of your special day, they tell a story. I commissioned a gold necklace and bracelet with three heirloom pearls I got on my 13th birthday. I gave my mom and sister matching bracelets (talk about a tear jerker!). We all wear the jewels everyday and cherish the memory.

Take Care

Since so much time and effort goes into choosing the perfect pieces to wear on your wedding day, you want to make sure they will last for years to come. Choosing jewelry made of high quality materials like white gold, yellow gold or platinum are great choices. Be sure to store your jewelry in a clean dry place away from other jewelry to avoid tangles.

A Farm Wedding With a Big Dose of Color!

With the vision for a casual, “backyard chic” celebration, it’s no wonder Ragan and DeAndra chose a working farm as the backdrop for their Colorado wedding. We Tie The Knots came alongside the couple as they planned the details, including no shortage of whimsy, color, and style. Thanks to Connie Whitlock we’ve got an entire gallery ready to make your Friday so much sweeter. See it all here!

Colors

From the Bride… Ragan and I met almost 10 years ago at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. A love for the same band led to an effortless and unwavering friendship that took 8 years to blossom into the deepest love either of us had ever known or thought possible. The perfect progression.

After a Christmas proposal with the Eiffel Tower as the backdrop, we knew we had a hard act to follow. Having both grown up and lived all our lives in Colorado, we didn’t want to stray too far for our special day. The Farmette in Lyons, CO ended up being the perfect venue for our laid back, “backyard chic” vision. Being an active, working farm, the open layout fostered movement for our guests and provided a less structured setting. The fallen branch was the perfect backdrop for the ceremony and the reception space was large enough to compliment farm table seating, food trucks, and an open fire S’mores station.

The overall color palette accomplished by my floral designer and wedding planner was, undoubtedly, one of the most exceptional components of the day. Going into the design process, never before have Ragan and I felt so out of our element! It was in that moment that we made the decision to let them run with it all and were we ever so glad we did.

There were so many special touches that will always hold a place in our memories. The invitation suite, beautifully designed and created by Ragan’s cousin who owns Steracle Press in Chicago, set the stage for the overall feel of the wedding. The reclaimed wood escort card stand handmade by my father was awe-inspiring and immediately grabbed the attention of arriving guests. A handkerchief that belonged to my great grandmother and a pin of my grandmother’s tied to my bouquet not only fulfilled my old, borrowed and blue, but also served as a symbol of their presence on the big day. Our favorite bluegrass band, Rapidgrass Quintet, kept the ceremony light and fun and carried the jovial feel of the evening from cocktail hour through dinner. Homemade, lavender-infused honey from the Farmette thanked our guests for attending while glow sticks and sunglasses took the DJ and dancers late into the night.

We’re so fortunate to be able to say that we had our dream wedding. It was truly our version of perfection, exemplified. We couldn’t have been luckier to have a more supportive and talented team there to guide us along the way and execute it impeccably. If there’s any advice I can give for future brides, it’s to make sure you have a good, overall vision and then to assemble a team you trust and let them do what they do best. Throughout what can be a stressful time, be sure to enjoy the process; all of it.

4 Little White Dresses for EVERY Wedding Event

Hi, everyone! I’m Mackenzie from Design Darling and I’m excited to share a little bridal fashion inspiration with you today! You already know from our engagement photos that I’ve been obsessed with outfit planning for the biggest day of my life and today’s post is further proof.

One of the best pieces of advice I received after getting engaged came from my friend, bridesmaid, and former SMP blogger bride Ali, who told me to start keeping an eye out for little white dresses because they can be difficult to find during the fall and winter months. Since we got engaged last Christmas Eve, a family friend asked to host an engagement party for us that February and it was unsurprisingly difficult for me to track down the perfect LWD in the dead of winter. I turned to Rent The Runway who came through with this long-sleeved Shoshanna dress that was appropriate for a mild February in Dallas and still festive enough to make me feel like a bride!

I thought I would do a little inspiration shoot with our wedding photographers Cameron and Jamelle to share four little white dresses that would work for all sorts of wedding occasions. Something I didn’t realize before we got engaged is just how many wedding festivities there are leading up to the actual day! Think engagement party, bachelorette weekend, bridal shower, bridesmaids’ luncheon, welcome party, rehearsal dinner… The list goes on! Featured in this post are four little white dresses I rented from Rent The Runway that I absolutely adore. I hope it helps you find the perfect outfit for your next bridal event!

First up is the Shoshanna dress that I wore for our engagement party. Fit-and-flare silhouettes are universally flattering and the long sleeves make it a great option for a fall or winter event. One great thing about Rent The Runway is that you can add dresses to your favorites throughout the year so you have a long list of options for various events as they pop up. I also love that there are tons of reviews for nearly every item and you can order a second dress size to increase the odds that you’ll find the perfect fit for you! I wore it with bright blue heels and statement earrings but if it’s extra chilly where you live, you could always add opaque tights and a black pump.

My second favorite is this tiered lace Nicholas dress. The longer length isn’t something I typically gravitate towards but the fitted top and lower neckline balance it out perfectly! The lace is so stunning in person and I love the pretty shadows it cast in the sunlight. Definitely a fun little detail shot for the weekend of your wedding! I wear these nude sandals to almost every wedding we attend because they’re comfortable enough to wear all day and dance on all night. I also wore these sparkly sunburst earrings for a fun mix of high and low!

If you need a little white dress for a warm weather wedding event, this Carven dress is simple and gorgeous. The asymmetrical detail on the front of the dress makes it a little more fashion-forward than your average LWD and the thicker fabric means you don’t have to stress about what to wear underneath. I paired it with turquoise tassel earrings and my favorite nude heels for a look that’s perfect for the summer months!

Last but not least, I couldn’t resist trying on this gold floral Lela Rose dress. Our wedding will have a less formal feel, but this would be ideal for a rehearsal dinner before a black tie wedding. I love that it has a little movement in the back, though I think it might have looked better on me if I were a couple inches taller (I’m 5’1″ for reference!). Thankfully these Alice + Olivia bow pumps do add a bit of height. The quality is unbelievable though so I would definitely add it to your wish list if you’re having a formal affair!

I’d love to hear what little white dresses you’ve worn or been eyeing for all your bridal festivities. With ten months remaining until our wedding, I know I’ll be needing several more!

Want to Rock Your Vintage Wedding? Get Away in a Car Like This.

When your wedding day takes place at an English manor as charming as this one, it doesn’t take much to wow your guests. A lovely off-the-shoulder Moira Hughes number, anemones, peach and ivory roses, and of course, a getaway car like this will do the trick. Ready to plan your own vintage affair? Make sure to soak in the full gallery from Weddings by Nicola & Glen in The Vault!

From Weddings by Nicola & GlenNicola and Tom’s wedding took place in the romantic surrounds of Calcot Manor in the Cotswolds. A luxurious 14th century Manor house with epic views over the rolling English countryside made an amazing location for our couple to return home to. Nicola and Tom, although originally from England now live in Sydney, Australia both working in advertising. With their creative background it is unsurprising how many gorgeous details permeated their day.

Nicola and Tom planned so many fun surprises. A seriously swish vintage Jaguar XK12 waited outside the church so they could drive themselves back to Calcot Manor to cheers from all their guests. On arrival at Calcot Manor a three piece Mariachi Band surprised guests at the drinks reception complete with trombone, guitars, sombreros and pisco sours! Impromptu dancing ensued!

A stunning stationery suite was designed by Nicola’s friend and water colour artist Harriet de Winton. She created a pretty lavender and fern wreath motif that was echoed on the dreamy hand-painted cake by Curtis & Co Cakes. An installation of giant wreaths by Lisa Elliott Flowers was suspended in the Barn at Calcot Manor making quite a statement! de Winton Paper co also created a beautiful water colour commission for Nicola and Tom to use as a table plan on the day based on all their favourite beaches in Sydney.

Other highlights included our beautiful Bride’s stunning Moira Hughes wedding dress – an Australian designer with an eye for romance. The dress combined an embossed Italian bodice and raw silk skirt, with an oversized silk bow and exquisite lace veil completing the look! Nicola wore cute Charlotte Mills peep toe heels with a poem on the soles. For the evening our Bride swapped her veil for a dreamy Bride La Boheme vintage headpiece.

Nicola’s Bridesmaids looked so chic in 1920s style white and silver dresses from Coast and strappy white heels. Sally and Nicola from Bristol Bridal Hair and Makeup mixed it up styling the girls hair both up and down and creating very natural yet polished beauty looks. The guys looked dashing to match in grey suits, black and white polkadot ties from Scotch & Soda and cufflinks made from reclaimed watch parts.

We loved that Nicola and Tom put so much heart into making sure every detail fitted with their overall vision for their wedding day to reflect them as a couple. Most of all we adored capturing how much these two souls enjoyed their actual wedding day as months of careful planning unfolded with style and oh so much fun!

A Blushy Pink Gown in Perfect Vermont Setting

Every now and then a wedding comes along that feels so different. And I guess that’s really what it is…you can feel it. Really, truly feel it. The love. The joy. The relaxed, easy moments of pure happiness. Add to that a gorgeous bride that radiates beauty in one of the prettiest blush gowns we’ve ever seen and this wedding is the reason my job is so very easy. Thanks to the incredible photographers, Rodeo & Co, who captured all of the magic.

From Meg at Rodeo & Co… Lis & Pearson were married at the private residence of a family friend on a gorgeous late summer day in Ludlow, Vermont. The Bride was involved in every aspect of the event- including designing the invitation with the help of her sister, and collecting vintage plates and glassware for the tables. The bridesmaids were dressed in an array of colors in the rose family, which tied in with the design of the event. The true showstopper of the day? The bride’s amazingly perfect blush pink gown.

This Rose Bouquet is What We Want for 2017

See this bouquet? It just jumped to the top of my favorite florals Pinterest board. The roses are to die for and the colors? Don’t even get me started. Sweet Root Village, I’m in awe. And Michael and Carina’s pics? Pretty perfect as well if I do say so myself. They’re giving me life on this chilly winter day and this Vault gallery is where I’ll be for the foreseeable future if you need me!

From Michael and CarinaStunning overgrown stone walls, a cascading dress, unruly florals and the rushing water inspired us for these bride and groom portraits.
Natural fall/winter elements, like baking spices, walnut ink and richly colored flowers added organic elements to the shoot.

We would love to inspire fall brides with the simplicity and natural elements of this shoot and hope you love it as well!

Saying I Do in Snowy Winter Mountains Never Looked So Pretty

One of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever attended was in mid-winter during the most beautiful snow storm. There’s nothing quite as magical as bridal portraits with white blanketed backdrops like this, and I’m reliving that charm today with Simply Sarah Photography and Bash Bozeman with every bit of this cold-weather beauty. See more in The Vault!

From Simply Sarah PhotographyInspired by the raw beauty of the Rocky Mountains, Kait Constanti of Bash Bozeman and I decided to pull together this wintery wedding inspiration in the mountains of Montana. We wanted to provide brides to be with unique mountain wedding inspiration, as most Montana weddings take place in the prime of the summer season. Kait took our concept and turned it into something exquisite! We drew from the subtle smoky wintry hues of the mountains, and landed on dove grey and serenity blue (one of the Pantone colors of the year) as our colors. Rose quartz, the other Pantone color of the year, ended up making a cameo as well in the florals crafted beautifully by Labellum. We used both elegant and natural elements to create something that shows a softer and more romantic side to the traditional rustic mountain weddings. In the end, the shoot was an incredible success, and made me so excited for all our beautiful mountain Rocky Mountain weddings this year!

What I love most about the place is the old details, from the hardwood floors, oversized doors with crystal and brass doorknobs, to the bay window, and stacked cove molding. I would describe my home aesthetic as modern and feminine. I gravitate towards bright spaces and love mixing modern and vintage together to create unique vignettes, which hold memories, around my home.

Most of the décor pieces have deeper meaning to me. Like the gorgeous pastel floral painting in my bedroom, which my grandmother painted for me, it reminds me how important passion and hobbies are. The brass pineapple in my living room is not only a symbol of hospitality but also is the logo of my sister’s company, Good Clean Food in Hawaii. The vintage map of New York reminds me of my roots in Western New York.

The living room is the first to be seen when you walk in the front door. I love that it packs a punch of color ranging from blue, green and purple anchored with bright feminine neutrals, like my rug from Joss & Main and my marble coffee table from West Elm. I layered the lighter rug over the deeper colored one to help the eye flow when you walk in. As you can see, aside from my love for hunting vintage jewelry, I also love to collect vintage brass décor, glassware and vases. I host vintage jewelry parties in my home so I always keep my bar cart stocked!

My favorite piece in this room is my 1940’s emerald green tassel chair that I found early on a Sunday morning at the Alameda Flea Market just outside of San Francisco. I’ve seen a lot of furniture along my travels and I cannot believe what amazing condition this is in. I also found the pink tassel chair that’s in bedroom at the same time!

I probably spend more time in my cozy little office than any other spot in the apartment! My desk is right up to the window and when it’s a clear day you can see as far as Twin Peaks. Not to mention the light in there is the best in the place! The brass elephant on my desk doubles as a bracelet holder and symbol of good luck.

Since I live alone, my bedroom is my girly oasis! I love pairing bright white furniture back to soft pastels like my pink and gray bedding from Dwell Studio I’ve lived in San Francisco for a total of 7 years now but a lot of my family and friends are still on the East Coast. I love printing out my favorite photos in black & white to display in frames around my room. No matter the distance, my favorite people still fill my space with love! As you can see from an early post, I think jewelry collections are like art and should be displayed around your room. You can check out that post here.

Proof that Blush Peonies are Always a Good Idea

There’s nothing that a little pop of blush peonies can’t cure, including rainy day I Do’s. Instead it makes for the most romantic backdrop and those rain clouds are what photography dreams are made of. Saranna and Greg celebrated love with a classic and wildly romantic wedding at the Garrison and Amy Rizzuto Photography was on hand to capture all the beautiful moments. Head to the vault for so much more.

Saranna recalled that day with so much fondness. “I will love you forever” Greg promised her, getting down on one knee and asking her to spend a lifetime together. “Forever” became a subtle theme for their June wedding at The Garrison. As Saranna and Greg stood in front of their friends and family with gorgeous views of the Hudson Valley behind them, they vowed to love one another forever in sentiments they had personally written. Happy tears filled the room as Saranna’s brother Eric officiated a very special ceremony, and cheers rang out as he joyously announced that they were husband and wife. It was truly a beautiful start to this couple’s journey together!

Saranna and Greg, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your incredible wedding at The Garrison this past weekend. Saranna, I loved your first look with your dad and brother, the sincerity in your face as you made your vows to Greg, and the candy bar you prepared filled with chocolate covered potato chips and yummy gummy bears. Greg, your reaction to seeing Saranna for the first time was so sweet, your super hero socks were AWESOME, and your Darth Vader tie clip was one of a kind. I am so excited to share more of the romance and the fun from this wedding day, and I hope you enjoy reliving so many happy memories through your photographs.

This Groom-to-be Proposed the First Night He Met Her

These dreamy cliffside engagement images from Holeigh V Photography would be enough for my swoon mode to go in full force. But once I read the sweet story behind this couple’s first meeting and then their Christmas tree proposal? The bar was raised on my swoon-meter. Once you’re done with The Vault gallery make sure to read the charming details below!

From Holeigh V PhotographyJacquelyn & Alex are originally from Kentucky but absolutely love the mountains and wanted a gorgeous overlook for their laid-back engagement session. They traveled to Blowing Rock, North Carolina on the Blue Ridge Parkway and after a short hike to the top, we were in awe of the view! The birds were flying over and her creamy dress flowed in the wind. By the time the sun began to set over the side of the mountain, the clouds came in and created a dramatic effect. Jacquelyn donned a gorgeous fitted lace maxi dress and crown from eucalyptus, her favorite greenery.

From the Bride… It’s a funny story how Alex and I first met because he actually got down one knee and proposed to me! He proclaimed that he had never met anyone like me and I was the ‘perfect’ girl for him. I had just moved back from NYC to my hometown Louisville, KY when my cousin invited me to go out with her and her friends to the bars. Once I arrived I was quickly introduced to everyone including Alex. We quickly found that we had a lot in common since we’ve both lived in New York.

As the night progress and the drinks flowed Alex actually proclaimed his love for me and proposed. I laughed off the proclamation and honestly didn’t think much more of the night or Alex afterwards. Months later I went back out with my cousin and ran into Alex. He was so embarrassed and admitted he never thought he would see me again and apologized for coming on too strong. We laughed about the night and began a friendship that would eventually turn into love.

Three months after the second meeting of Alex my father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Devastated, I found myself turning to my new friend, Alex to lean on. We both quickly began to realize we were much more than friends. Alex was my saving grace throughout that time in my life and for that I am forever grateful. We dated for 2.5 years before we were engaged.

It was the weekend before Thanksgiving and we decided to put up and decorate our first Christmas tree together. Our mothers had given us our childhood ornaments so we were trading stories and showing off our favorites to each other. I turned away for a moment when Alex pointed to the tree and asked “What’s this one here?” I got up to the tree and it was an old wooden ornament that said “You for the rest of my life” with a diamond engagement ring tied around it. I looked at Alex and he was down on one knee. I honestly don’t remember much more after that as I was just so excited. He surprised me with having reservations at my favorite restaurant to celebrate. Once we arrived my mom and his parents were there to celebrate with us. It was the perfect night.
