Valentine’s Inspo You’ll Want to Steal For Your Wedding!

“What could be more romantic than a Valentine’s Day elopement?” That was the question that sparked this shoot kissed with color and a touch of whimsy. It’s the kind of inspiration that could easily translate to a Galentine’s Party, Bridal Shower, Wedding Day and beyond, and thanks to our girl, Lucy Munoz you’ve got an entire gallery to explore. Scroll on and let the pretty party begin.

From Lucy Munoz… Our Valentine’s Day-inspired elopement took place in sunny Palm Springs. We wanted an open and vast landscape that complemented our colors and theme. We thought, “What could be more romantic than a Valentine’s Day elopement?”

Our real couple, Regina and Oscar made it super easy because they are truly, madly, and deeply in love! Alpha from Sweet Fuss gave Regina wavy locks and a fresh and natural glow. Regina is wearing this amazing gown from designer Stello (who was a former contestant on Project Runway). Our invitation suite is made by Alice of Lace and Lettering who creates the most gorgeous invites. The florals were made by Blue Ladder Botany. She created a bountiful arrangement which included orchids and overflowed with pink, blush, and red hues. Our cake was made by Elise cakes. We wanted a two-tier cake that was simple and sweet and one we felt that would complement the florals.

This shoot had everything we were looking for–a day filled with love, laughter and everything we’d hope for if we were eloping on Valentine’s Day!

All out Romance Looks a Little Something like This

This black tie affair doesn’t shy away from an abundance of garden roses. They’re everywhere courtesy of The Hidden Garden and with stunning floral details planned by Pryor Events and captured by Rebecca Yale Photography, it makes for a magical garden celebration set against the elegance of The Hotel Bel-Air. Get cozy with the full wedding right here.

From Pryor Events… Julie and her Mom Pam were involved in every aspect of planning. They wanted the wedding to be gorgeous and timeless but not feel overdone. Invitations incorporated a custom branch motif with warm grey letterpress on thick cotton paper. A bright floral liner set the tone for the wedding’s décor. We incorporated the small detail of the branch throughout their wedding. Julie and Michael’s ceremony was held by the stunning Swan Lake. Most couples get married under the hotel’s gazebo but for a lovely twist Julie and Michael were married under a custom Birchwood chuppah by the grotto amidst the foliage of the hotel. We enhanced the garden setting with natural florals and greenery to maintain the organic beauty of the hotel. Ceremony chairs were wrapped in climbing vines and florals, which continued onto the Chuppah. Their ceremony took place after sundown, therefore lighting played a key role. The ceremony was dramatic but not overdone and it was incredibly romantic. Shades of blush, peach and grey continued in the ballroom flowers, linen and chairs. Oversize cafe au lait dahlias were placed throughout the decor, including on each guests’ place setting to carry the garden feel into the reception. Dinner began with heirloom pumpkin and almond tortelloni and finished with strawberry pavlova and several flavors of wedding cake. A warm white dance floor with custom lighting and an amazing band inspired endless dancing.

This Dallas Fete is the Kind Winter White Wedding Dreams are Made Of

I was thissss close to doing an all white wedding (paired with champagne hues) and this Dallas affair from Mint Photography is exactly why. It’s classic. It’s timeless. And oh, is that my favorite kind of wedding my friends. Just one look at The Vault and you’ll be ooh-ing and ahh-ing too, I assure you.

From Mint PhotographyKristi and Brent had an amazingly elegant winter wedding in Dallas. Kristi chose to keep the color scheme crisp with all white florals, and gorgeous white bridesmaids dresses. The outcome was stunning! We loved so much about this wedding, but what we especially love is that despite the rainy and chilly weather we were able to still capture beautiful naturally lit images! We always hope that our clients will trust us to capture cohesive images despite obstacles and we think this wedding shined even without a sunny day! P.S. How about those adorable pups and that custom hand painted bottle of Jo Malone! Obsessed.

From the Bride… In another life my twin sister and I would have been wedding planners. Instead, we are both dentists who throw a lot of parties for our friends and family. We’ve had a love for cake, parties, and design since we were little. I’ve always been extremely particular and detail oriented. White or as I say “cream” has been my favorite color since I was a little girl so much so that my furniture, car, and puppy are all white. White long stem roses are my favorite flowers and the winter holiday season is my most favorite time of year. The idea of all white roses and a winter wedding was a very easy decision for me. I did a play on the Christmas song “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of Year” in reference to both our marriage and the holiday season. It was all the little details that I spent countless hours planning with the help of my twin sister. It was incredibly important to me to have personal touches that made the day special for not only me. but my husband and all of my family and friends.

My husband is the president of Dallas Safari Club Conservation Society and is a passionate and avid water fowl hunter. I had our party favors made by a local Dallas chocolatier which was special in itself as we both met and have a love for Dallas. Our party favors served as both a place card and favor, but most importantly as a personal touch of my husband. The party favors were gold dusted chocolate mallard ducks and turned out beautifully! Additioanally, his groomcake had our bird dog, Duckie, made of icing with a duck and our wedding videographer was actually a dear friend who films for Safari Classics, a hunting show.

We included our grandparents who celebrated with us from above by having a table at the reception in honor of each of them. A table was named for each of them and included their picture as well as a number to help with the seating chart. It was a really special way to pay tribute to them. Also, my grandparents’ wedding cake topper from 1947 was on display at the wedding. Lastly, our welcome boxes for out of town guests included gingerbread men cookies that my twin and I made from my grandmother’s cookie cutter and recipe since that was something we always did with her during the holidays.

For my bridesmaids, I treated them to a bridesmaid lunch at a quaint French restaurant. I did a play on “Cheers to Buds” and gifted them with a beautiful ornament of each of their dogs and earrings (ear buds) for the wedding since our fur babies are like our children to us.

The detail that was truly so special to me was my gift to my maid-of-honor and twin. I gifted her with a “twin ring” that I designed and my husband’s close friend who is a diamond dealer created for both of us. I had the stone taken out of old rings that we both had when we were little girls, but no longer wear, set in an intertwined diamond rose gold band to represent our lives that have been completlely intertwined. The stone happened to be a blue topaz which made our matching rings more special as topaz is the state gemstone of Texas where we are from. When I got engaged, my twin wanted a diamond ring to wear too. Now, my twin has her own diamond ring and a something blue. The rings will become heirlooms that we are able to pass on to our children for their weddings. She loves her ring and lights up telling everyone about the story behind it.

Other small details included a custom monogram that we used everywhere from stamps, wax seals, welcome boxes, menu cards, and programs. Instead of a photo booth, we created a photo back drop with Christmas tree where my photographers took family holiday pictures of our guests. We gifted our guests with these pictures for them to use for their Christmas cards if they wished. I love receiving Christmas cards so this was special for us to do since it’s not often that you have professional photographers available to snap family pictures!

One really unique thing about our wedding is that our wedding vendors are not only Dallas vendors. Our vendors are from all over Texas! Being that my twin and I have a love for cake, we fell in love with The Cake Stand, a bakery in McKinney, Texas when we stumbled across the bakery while doing a rotation in dental school. We’ve been getting all our cakes from them for years now, and I can’t tell you how many people comment on their cakes! All of my invitations were created by Emmalie Welstead from Crop Paper Scissor in Waco, Texas where my twin and I are from. She is amazing. She executes everything perfectly, and is the nicest person to work with. Our photographer is from Austin, Texas. Kelly from Mint Photography is incredible, and so easy to work with. She helped in so many ways beyond photogarphy on my wedding day. I spent a lot of time selecting my vendors and making sure that their personality and style matched my vision.

For our wedding I envisioned an all white winter wedding that was classic, elegant, and grand yet simple and not over the top. All of the special details and personal touches that Lacy and I planned truly achieved that vision and made the day filled with love for everyone.

A Dream Dress and Greece Make for the Most Beautiful Combo

Did you know that pomegranates are considered the best of luck in Greece? Did you also know that they make for gorgeous wedding decor? One luck at this gorgeous inspiration (and that dress!) from Lorraine Young + Adrian Wood Photography and you’ll quickly jump on the destination Corfu bandwagon. Carve out some time for this beauty with even more in the vault.

From the Wedding Planner… The fine art editorial was made to keep us inspired through the early winter and the colors where very much inspired by the time of year but as we began to design we soon saw that the colors palettes are perfect for almost any time of the seasons combined with the venue which offers great timeless , and unique architecture embedded in natural landscape designed by skinner and skinner a renowned British architect Dominic Skinner who has designed some of the most glorious villas in Corfu.

Pomegranates took a very big part in the styling. They are a valued Greek tradition around new year eves in Corfu where you smash the pomegranate in the front of the house outside. The Greek’s believe the pomegranate symbolizes Good luck , good health ,fertility, regeneration and prosperity. The shoot was to reflect romance and elegance something I feel Corfu always delivers. The detailed features of the shoot where composed of antique furnitures and table scape with soft flowing cloth , rich red florals and detailed cutlery and plate wear with crystal glass wear with elements of brass candle sticks.

The gorgeous wedding dress was chosen for its handmade delicate floral detail and gold beading. Fine calligraphy stationary was styled around the color tones and elegant design. The cake was designed for the shoot and real flowers where added because I love fresh flowers on weddings cakes. Big thank you to all my venders involved and especially to our talented Editorial & Wedding Photographer Adrian Wood for capturing it beautifully with luminous, timeless and authentic images using luxury professional film cameras.

A Dream City Wedding With a Vera Wang Gown

Classic city weddings will always have my heart. Always. And when they just so happen to include the dreamiest Vera Wang cap sleeve gown and a horse-drawn carriage ride, you can be certain it’ll land on my favorites list. Samantha Helmig of Shannon Gail Weddings and Events was the creative genius behind this timeless celebration and Brett Heidebrecht photographed from start to finish. Have a look this way in the gallery.

From the Bride… Ross and I always knew we wanted a destination wedding of some sort and with my parents living up in Chicago, Ross proposing in Chicago and it being one of our favorite cities to visit, we decided to start making plans there.

Fact: The weather in Chicago in mid-April rarely ever cooperates. From the beginning, we always expected the worst and prayed for the best. So you can imagine our excitement and relief when we awoke to a beautiful, 75-degree sunny day. Apparently, the weather does cooperate, sometimes, in this city!

The morning of the wedding, my wedding party and I were able to eat, drink and relax in our robes before getting started with hair and makeup. I was extremely calm and giddy all morning until that moment when the dress and veil went on, and all eyes were on me. Suddenly, everything became very real! As I prepared to go up to the rooftop to greet Ross for our first look, the nerves had definitely set in. But the moment we finally locked eyes the only thing I could think about was how truly lucky I was to be marrying this incredibly amazing man!

After laughing, crying and taking a few pictures, we headed down to the hotel lobby to join our wedding party. We all hopped on a bus and headed towards Fourth Presbyterian Church for pictures in their courtyard prior to the ceremony. Just like every other aspect of the day, the ceremony was perfect. The church itself is absolutely stunning and our Reverend, Shannon Kershner, was beyond amazing.

We walked out of the church to bubbles (sort of) and all of our friends and family cheering. Once we made it down the steps of our church, my parents had one last surprise for us. Around the corner was a beautiful horse-drawn carriage, just like the one from our engagement! This allowed us to ride around by ourselves for a while and really take it all in, before heading back to the hotel for the cocktail hour and the reception.

The most important things to us when planning this day were the venue, food, drinks, and the band! TheWit was everything we ever wanted in a venue. From the hotel itself to the views it offered, the roof top bar, the reception room, the food and the staff (especially Brittney Epstein, the Senior Social Catering Manager), we could not have picked a more perfect venue. Then once The Stu Hirsch Orchestra started playing, I don’t think a soul sat down for the rest of the night (including my 84-year-old grandmother!).

Overall, everything about April 16th was perfect and very special to both of us. Ross and I can both honestly say that this was the best night of our lives!! We were surrounded by our family and closest friends, most of whom traveled long and far to show their support and love for us. The best part is that we realized the wedding is just the beginning! Brett Heidebrecht, as always, did an amazing job capturing all the memorable details and emotions in all of the photographs. We were so lucky to have him capture the essence and fun of our wedding day!

These Bridal Portraits will Have You Craving a Garden Wedding

Having a location for beautiful bridal portraits was a must on my wedding list and today’s fete from Brklyn View Photography proves exactly why. The Untermyer Garden Conservatory was THE perfect spot for Alice and Mike’s snaps and you can find them all right here in The Vault!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/181730815 600 338]

From Brklyn View PhotographyIn a bustling office in New York City, Alice and Mike worked indirectly together on the same financial team. She liked him, he liked her and after a few months of getting to know each other, Mike handed her a pink envelope and discreetly asked her out. They’ve been together ever since – so romantic! Along with their families, they put together an elegant and stylish wedding at the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club. Alice got ready at her childhood home along side her sister and best friends. The Bride wore a stunning lace gown by BHLDN and a pair of blue satin, crystal encrusted Manolo Blahnik shoes (LOVE!). Inside St. Joseph’s Church, Mike waited patiently for his beautiful Bride to walk down the aisle and finally become his wife. Overwhelmed with emotion, both the Bride and the Groom shed tears exchanging their sacred wedding vows. After their ceremony, we visited the breathtaking Untermyer Garden Conservatory for their portraits and bridal party photos. Alice’s bridesmaids wore floral printed dresses from Plum Pretty Sugar with bouquets filled with shades of white and pink june roses by Violet and Verde. At the reception, guests were treated to cocktail hour overlooking the Long Island Sound before dancing the night away under the twinkle lights inside the ballroom. It was only fitting to send off this amazing couple in style with a super fun sparkler exit. Alice and Mike are two of the sweetest, most kind, thoughtful, and wonderful couples I’ve had the honor of documenting. Their wedding was filled with so much love and laughter that it was hard to leave at the end of the night. Wishing the Bride and Groom a lifetime of love and happiness!

A Wedding that Gives Rustic a Fresh, Modern Twist

We all know the saying April showers bring May flowers. Well this wedding is incorporating all of that into one crazy pretty celebration. With a stunning Bride made picture perfect by TEAM Hair and Makeup and the design of TOAST Santa Barbara, those gray, drizzly skies were met with a springtime infusion of florals and a sea of candlelight. It’s all moody elegance and cozy charm captured by Lacie Hansen, plus even more in the vault.

From TOAST… They say it’s good luck to have rain on your wedding day, so when you live in California where there’s a never-ending drought, it must mean something extra special to get that day full of drizzle! Stephanie and Kevin wanted a day that would feel unique to them and their style as a couple and to create a warm and fun atmosphere for their guests. They decided the incredibly beautiful Villa Sevillano would be the perfect place to host their friends and family. With its lush gardens and Italian architecture, it set the tone for an elegant and intimate weekend.

After attending so many of their friends’ weddings in the previous year, Stephanie and Kevin were looking for ways to make their wedding feel special. They knew they preferred the subtleness of neutral colors, grays and greens, they loved modern touches to accent rustic décor, and they loved the idea of creating a beautiful party for their guests. When we first met with them, we knew that we would have fun designing their celebration!

Stephanie wanted dark pops of color to come across in the design while still embodying the springtime lightness of an April wedding. We used shades of grey in her print material, beautifully designed and crafted by JayAdores, tied together with hand-dyed silk ribbon from Hanah Silk and a small black tag with the couple’s initials in gold. The same ribbon and tag were tied around each guests’ napkin at the reception to mirror the x-back rustic chairs and wooden farm tables. Black linen runners lined the tables, topped with a marble plank to tie in place cards calligraphed in gold on marble tiles! A tent was always part of the design since we knew the April months have colder evenings, so we dressed it up with string lights and chandeliers covered in greenery. The clear tent walls allowed everyone to take in the outside drizzle as they sat cozily inside the tent for their dinner prepared by DUO Events.

ONE: ONE STYLE, SEVERAL DIFFERENT LOOKS

Letting your girls rock their own individual styles doesn’t mean saying “goodbye” to that chic look you’ve always dreamt of. Nope, with Joanna August, there are so, so many wonderful options in gown choices (and I mean wonderful), your girls are certain to look dreamy AND feel comfortable, too.

Top Tips

  • Choose a convertible dress that will look great on bridal parties large AND small. Joanna August’s Sammy will bring your look together with a full skirt, but allow your maids to choose from over 25 different options in tying the bodice.
  • Keep it simple with Joanna August’s Sonya Top, a convertible top that can be worn with the V-neck in the front OR back. (Awesome.)
  • Play with straps. The Joanna August Jennifer has straps that can be tied several different ways (think criss-crossed in the back, a halter or on the shoulders), so your maids will look cohesive in the same silhouette with just a subtle variation that will speak volumes.

TWO: FIND A THEME OR DESIGN DETAIL THAT UNIFIES

Sometimes all you need for that mix and match look to come together is a sweet little detail that stands out in every gown. Think a uniform fabric or a certain stand-out detail, without getting too matchy-matchy. It’s what we call the definition of stunning and Joanna August has a plethora of different options to take your maids to next level pretty.

Top Tips

  • Rope detailing is your friend. And when it comes to Joanna August’s stunning options in the Parker, Eleanor and Catherine dresses, it’s also one of the prettiest ways ever to dress your maids.
  • Don’t be afraid of a little pleating. With the Joanna August AbbyAmber and Cindy dresses + the awesome Scarlette Jumpsuit (!), your ladies can really make a statement with their individuality, all while tying it all together with one single (amazing) detail.
  • We love a good ruffle and when it comes to dressing your girls in romance, Joanna August’s Lolo dress is most definitely the way to do it right. (It’s fabulous.)
  • Want a look that is a little bit sassy + sexy? Start thinking more along the lines of  spaghetti straps or cut-out detailing… that will most definitely do the trick.

Event Planner Weds in Serious Style in Santa Monica

Speaking from experience, working in the wedding industry puts a little extra pressure on when planning your own Big Day. But our beautiful Bride, Dalit (who happens to be a part of the incredible team at Lady Liberty Events) made that task look effortless for her Santa Monica wedding. Not to mention, she looks stunning as ever in that Monique Lhullier dress! Julie Pepin snapped up every pretty bit and you won’t want to miss it—head to The Vault for more.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/166377448 600 338]

From Lady Liberty EventsDalit and Jordan… these two have the kind of love that you can FEEL if you are in the same room as them. The way they look at each other must seriously be how fairytales were written because, as cheesy as it sounds… this prince found his princess and this princess found her prince. That IS for SURE. Their magical day was filled to the brim with California Modern Romance starting from their first look, down to the last confetti kiss of the night.

Dalit (who is a vital part of the Lady Liberty Events team) was about to embark on her own wedding day and let me tell you…. she was the most relaxed and tranquil bride the entire day! “Leading up to my big day, I was so concerned that I was going to be a stress case, worrying about all the little details and making sure it all came together like we had imagined! Knowing what a perfectionist I am when working with other brides, I thought there was no way I would be able to relax and most importantly be present. When I woke up that morning I was remarkably calm and overwhelmed with excitement and joy. We always remind our brides (and grooms) not to forget what this day is REALLY about…. so I took my own advice and knowing that I was in excellent hands, I was able to truly focus on what mattered and could not WAIT to marry Jordan and get our party started!”

With Jordan drawn more to the styling of traditional and modern weddings and Dalit favoring the romantically wild and organic side of design, we did a mash up to create an ambiance that embodied both of their styles.

An all white, blind embossed, invitation with hints of rose gold foil provided a unique and stylish suite showcasing their killer monogram and custom pattern (created by Prim & Pixie) which was cleverly incorporated into other areas of the day. Welcome bags with their rose gold monogram were filled with items encouraging guests to indulge, hydrate, santé, protect, and recover during the weekends celebrations.

Glowing in her sleek and sexy Monique L’hullier lace gown, Dalit was surrounded by her squad of besties all dressed in ombre hues of antique blush, rose gold, and champagne. Holding a lush bouquet of large white blooms with hints of trailing greens, this gal was ready to go say I do to the man of her dreams. Jordan, very handsomely outfitted in his suave black tuxedo anxiously awaited for Dalit to make her way to him, standing under a chuppah of white blooms, romantic vines, and his families treasured Tallis. “The Chuppah was one of my favorite design elements from the wedding, I loved how romantic and abundant it looked. Kristen from Moon Canyon really conveyed what I envisioned into a reality … I remember thinking while I was standing there looking at Jordan, This feels so Magical”

Excited to get the party started, Dalit and Jordan wanted guests to enter the ballroom and head directly to the dance floor. With the room dimly lit in hues of toasted amber and rose gold, along with the shimmering effects from the incredible disco ball installation overhead, guests were beckoned to the dance floor. Starting the night off with a quick dance set, everyone was on their feet when Dalit & Jordan made their grand entrance, then leading their guests into The Hora. The band, performing in front of a cascading display of dimly lit felini bulbs, definitely knew how to keep the dance floor packed!

Tall boxwood hedging & romantic white drapery provided the ideal backdrop for the head table. Dalit and Jordan sat side by side in a sweet love-sette, perfectly framed by the Pour La Vie sign that was illuminated behind them.

Ghost chairs surrounded all of the dining tables, donning guests’ names and indicating their place setting. At the end of the evening there were a few guests who tried to take the chairs home with them thinking they were favors! We got a good laugh from that one. The sexy mirrored kings tables were styled with a collection of low white florals and a mix of votive and taper candles. The lustrous blown glass taper vessels added a contemporary and flirty flair. Reflections from the flickering candlelight, disco balls, and the hotels stunning crystal chandeliers on the mirrored tabletops were simply mesmerizing and gorgeous. The silk linen draped tables, flaunted tall arrangements overflowing with luscious white blooms and circled by varying heights of pillar candles.

A pink ombre display of mini envelopes with a mirrored “Love Notes” sign encouraged guests to write notes for Dalit and Jordan to open up on their anniversaries. The opposite side of the room showcased the towering 5-tier wedding cake; a simple white buttercream textured finish, embellished with a cascade of fresh pink hued blooms, and topped with “Love you more”… this cake was faultless.

With all the guests on the dance floor and the night unfortunately coming to an end, Dalit and Jordan were ready to close the night out with a bang. As one of the final songs were being performed, the crowd was bombed with confetti… CONFETTI KISSES FOR ALL.

Charming Wisconsin Wedding with a Dream Designer Gown

I call America’s heartland home, but I was truly taken aback to learn this wedding took place right in Wisconsin. With scenery you’d swear is straight out of the Irish countryside it was quite the pleasant surprise that coastal Kohler, Wisconsin played backdrop in such a stunning way. From their Bella Figura invitation suite to the traditional church ceremony to a reception space abundant with lush greens, Kathryn and Micheal carefully designed their wedding day and Amy Gaerthofner captured beautifully behind the camera. Head this way to see more plus a film below by Vaughter Weddings.

From Amy Gaerthofner… She wore a lace cap sleeve Carolina Herrera gown and he wore a custom blue tux from personal friend and designer Domenico Vacca. The blend of elegance, the authentic Irish Barn and the landscape of coastal Kohler, Wisconsin made the perfect blend of New York meets Wisconsin.

With the help of Kathryn’s mother Barb and the staff at Whistling Straights the couple was able to create the wedding they’d always hoped and dreamed of.

It was important for Kathryn and Michael to be surrounded by family and friends for their wedding. For Kathryn, it was equally important to have the festivities in her home state of Wisconsin. Since over 80% of the wedding guests have never been to Wisconsin the couple really wanted to show off what the state is capable of. The shoreline of the Great Lake Michigan did not disappoint.

Whistling Straights was the perfect setting for guests from coast to coast to soak in a beautiful summer day. Kathryn felt at home on this PGA golf course as well since she played golf in college.

The ceremony was held at St. Luke United Methodist Church – a short drive from the legendary grounds at Kohler. Cocktail hour overlooked the hills and valleys of the golf course and dinner was held in the Irish Barn with white tents extending from its rear opening onto the grounds to accommodate even more dinner guests.

The bridesmaids wore dresses in a light shade of blue which flowed nicely in the breeze. They men wore tuxes and their own white collared shirts.

The most memorable part of the evening’s events were the speeches made by the fathers. Each father not only welcoming their newest member to their family, but heartfelt memories and stories of admiration of both Kathryn and Michael.

Anything-But-Boring Backyard Wedding in Massachusetts

Can you believe this gorgeous setup is in a backyard? Yes, a BACKYARD. Right? If I didn’t know better, I’d think Jenny Moloney‘s captures of this day took place at a full on wedding venue. But with vendors like Black Bow Events, Anchor & Grace, La Tavola and Forklift Catering, just to name a few—the beauty of this day comes as no surprise. Considering your very own at home fete? Make sure to spend a little extra time in this gallery my friends.

From Black Bow Events… When you think of backyard parties you probably picture picnic tables and checkered table cloths. But with over 200 guests, crystal chandeliers and tables dripping with white flowers, this backyard wedding was anything but typical.

Jen and Scott came to me with just three months to plan their wedding day. They had had a last minute change of heart and instead of eloping away from home, decided to marry in their hometown. The bride and groom grew up just a few miles from each other in Medfield, Massachusetts.

When they first mentioned that the wedding would take place in the bride’s parents’ front yard, I have to admit I was a bit skeptical. But one look at the space and I couldn’t wait to start planning. There was plenty of lawn space to put up a tent large enough to hold 200 guests for dinner and dancing.

The ceremony was held just down the street at the local church that the bride attended growing up. The couple kept the guest list short for the ceremony, inviting just their very closest family and friends to participate.

The evening started with cocktails around the pool. To move the guests over to the tent for dinner, we enticed them across the yard by having the couple make their big entrance during cocktail hour in the bride’s white convertible! Adorned with flowers and a ‘Just Married’ sign, they made the perfect entrance to the sounds of the guests cheering and raising their glasses to the newlyweds. Guests enjoyed various food stations under the tent before the band kicked up the fun.

Jen and Scott and their families were a dream to work with. The bride gave me a few images that she liked and let me run with the rest. The result was an understated and elegant garden wedding using various textures of white and touches of slate blue accented with silver, wood tones, and lush greenery. Jenny Moloney captured it all beautifully!

From the Bride… Mat and I met – as modern romance-seekers of the digital age do – on the internet. On our first date, we met up for drinks, and ended up having such a good time that we shut down the bar. Not long after, we fell for each other. We made a home together in a tiny, lovely apartment in San Francisco, and about a year later, Mat pulled a ring out of his pocket on a bluff overlooking the city. Among other things, Mat and I share a deep love of nature, food, and making things. On weekends, we’re often hiking, camping, undertaking all-day cooking ventures, or getting excited about messy art projects. Mat is passionate about ceramics, and incredibly talented – in fact, his creations have now replaced all of our plates, mugs, and bowls at home. I love to draw and DIY in general. Whenever I’m roaming in the city, I’ll see a display at a shop and think, “I bet I can make that” (whether I actually can is debatable, but with DIY, blind confidence usually gets you 90% of the way there).

When we started planning, we agreed that the wedding would be a joint project, that we’d make as much as we could (without driving ourselves crazy), and that it would feel true to who we are – something in nature; something casual; something that felt playful and fun.

The first decision you make while planning a wedding is definitely the hardest – ours was finding the right venue. After a somewhat angst-filled search (It’s pretty, but does it feel right? Do you think our guests would like to camp? etc.), we decided to get married in Phoenix, Arizona, where Mat grew up and where much of his family still lives. We wanted to be married outside – surrounded by nature and (with any luck) in the sun, so when we walked into the Farm at South Mountain, we knew it would be the perfect place to gather our friends and family. As soon as you walk into the Farm, you are surrounded by a lush, green lawn, broad pecan trees arching overhead, and a bright garden with fresh vegetables growing just off the path. From our city apartment, Mat and I dream about someday having a home with a big garden and chickens, so the space felt cozy and familiar from the start.

There were a number of advantages to having the wedding in Arizona – proximity to Mat’s family, nearly assured warm weather, and insanely beautiful desert sunsets. But more importantly, we would be able to work with the extremely talented Charlee Geisler of Signature Events, who – in addition to being one of the best wedding planners in Phoenix – is also Mat’s step-mom and my new mother-in-law! If anyone out there is thinking what incredible luck it is to have a wedding planner in the family – you’re right. Charlee was with us every step of the way, helping us execute on the vision we had painted, handling logistics and vendor management, and making a typically stressful process seem incredibly easy.

With Charlee on board, we were able to focus on the parts of wedding planning that we were excited about – for one, making things! I drew and watercolored our wedding invitations, and Mat made unique ceramic bud vases for the tables. We also figured out how to make marquee letters for the pie table (thanks, YouTube), and wrote our own vows. What’s more – our whole community got involved! Mat’s mom threw a party with friends in Arizona, who spent an afternoon making strings of wax paper cones (a DIY project we found on Style Me Pretty, in fact!), which became a stunning backdrop for the ceremony. My mom, sisters, and friends came over for an afternoon of wine, nail-hammering and yarn-stringing to make our table numbers. And a good friend helped us use Photoshop to convert the art I had made for the invitations into table-assignment coasters and beer coozies that we gave out as favors.

At the end of the day, the wedding was exactly what we wanted it to be – not because we had planned it to perfection, and not because we had achieved every single thing on our to-do lists (we didn’t and we hadn’t) – but because it felt love-filled, easy, and reflective of who we are. I loved looking around the space on the night of the wedding and seeing what we had made together. It was a beautiful collection of the shared efforts of people we love, and it infused the space with warmth and joy (and the edges of imperfection that we happily embrace). And of course, we danced our hearts out into the night.

I received a lot of advice when I was planning the wedding, all of which I appreciated, but too much of which can make you crazy. If I were to offer any of my own advice to brides currently in the process, I would say: a) use your community! People sincerely want to help, and allowing them to do so not only takes stress off of your plate, but also lets people you love share in the experience and feel connected to the finished product; b) when you get to the wedding, let go of whatever you didn’t finish and enjoy what you’ve spent so long planning. Mat and I promised that when the wedding weekend started, we’d just press play and let it happen. We stopped focusing on our to-do lists, lingering crafts we thought we’d get to, and should’ve done’s, and had the best weekend of our lives. In the end, the wedding is about celebrating your love with the most important people in your lives and having a great time. And no one (including you) will even notice the little things that veer off course. And if you do, you’ll be having too much fun to care.

Inspiration for a Heart-Filled Valentine’s Bash with Your Besties

From bridal shower to just because I love my friends, this party is the perfect reason to celebrate Valentine’s Day. And if heart balloons and a flower wall are involved, well that’s just the cherry on top. Crafted by Lindsey M. Events along with florals by Apotheca and photographs by Lindsay Hackney, this shower turned Galentine’s soiree will get you in the mood to celebrate come February 14.

From the planner, Lindsey M. Events… I have always dreamed of planning an ultra feminine and bright bridal shower photo shoot, and what better occasion than Valentine’s Day for a party with your best friends? After stumbling upon Trade, a restaurant in the heart of Boston’s Atlantic Wharf, I knew it would be in the perfect backdrop. As a planner and designer I live for contrast, and in this instance placing pink and girly elements against Trade’s industrial backdrop was exactly the contrast I needed. I like to call our color palette here “Go Bright or Go Home.” Metallic heart balloons and neon pink palm tree napkins are paired with yellow stripes and a whitewash floral wall. We embraced all things pink and girly for our bride-to-be and played with texture and pattern to create something fresh and energetic. With an all-star cast of vendors, our shoot came to life with more color and spunk than I ever could have dreamed!

Whitney Bischoff Talks Planning a (Domestic) Destination Wedding

You know Whitney Bischoff as the newest member of our SMP Blogger Bride Squad, and today this gorgeous bride-to-be is dishing a few details of her Cape Cod wedding. Based in Chicago, Whitney is planning a wedding across the country, but pulling off destination nuptials its no small task. She’s sharing two MAJOR tips – from one bride to another – to save your sanity and make the wedding planning journey one to remember.

From Whitney… Hello again! I hope everyone had a very Happy New Year and is getting back into the swing of things following the holidays. As I mentioned in my introductory post, Ricky and I got engaged the middle of July and almost immediately the questions started flooding in…”When are you getting married? Are you getting married in Chicago? Are you getting married in Kentucky?” Brides, I know y’all understand the feeling, am I right?! In today’s post, I’m hoping I can share some tips with couples who are hosting a destination wedding which have served us well since we made the decision to have a domestic destination wedding!

Ricky’s family has ties to Cape Cod, and so it was suggested we consider the Cape as a potential wedding location. Something in my heart told me I would not be disappointed and this is the place I should marry the love of my life. When Ricky and I traveled to Cape Cod in September 2016, I knew immediately this was the perfect location. We toured the area, looked at venues and by the end of the weekend, we had decided the Cape is where we would say “I do.”

With a date and a venue, we both took a huge sigh of relief, looked at one another, and thought “What in the world do we do now?!” If we were going to get married on the Cape, how in the world would I plan this wedding from so far away without having minor panic attacks on the regular? I would have to choose my vendors from afar and trust I’m making the right decisions through phone calls and pictures. For all the destination brides reading, I know you understand this feeling well! To say we were overwhelmed was an understatement. I started collecting wedding planning books and began my online research.

I soon realized there were two very important things I had to do in order for us to successfully plan a destination wedding from Chicago: I had to find local Northeast professional wedding vendors I could trust and connect with, as well as hire a wedding planner.

[dotted]

Tip #1: Connect With Local Vendors

The power of social media in this day in age is quite mesmerizing to me. I love connecting with people and following their stories, seeing their travels, fashion, families growing, the list goes on, but never did I think that social media would be where I found my very first vendor- I kid you not! I mentioned I started doing a lot of research – this included reading and browsing SMP, but also looking for inspiration through Instagram. While browsing one evening, I saw an insanely gorgeous picture that appeared to be on the Cape. I started following this photographer immediately so I could keep track of photos I hopefully could capture for my day. Not too long after, I started corresponding with Carly from Carly Michelle Photography.

Not only was I obsessed with her pictures, but I was equally obsessed with how kind she was. This is a girl that if I lived out east, we would 100% be friends. And that’s when it all started to click. Not only do I want vendors who are talented, I want professionals who are passionate, kind-hearted, hard-working and who I enjoy being around. Soon enough, Ricky and I signed on the dotted line. We officially had a location and a photographer- there was no stopping us now.

[dotted]

Tip #2: Hire a Wedding Planner, ASAP

A week or so later, Carly emailed she had just shot a wedding on the Cape with an incredibly talented wedding planner. Originally I was not going to hire a wedding planner. But I trusted Carly (trusting your vendors is KEY, I cannot reinforce that enough) so I decided to jump on a conference call just to get a feel for what this sweet gal, Keri Ketterer, owner of Always Yours Events, was all about. An hour later, I didn’t want to get off the phone. All of the anxiety and overwhelming feelings I mentioned previously were gone. She understood me and my vision, what I was looking for in a design and how personal I wanted my wedding day to feel.

For all of you planning a destination wedding, a wedding planner is mandatory! Trust me. Your fiancés can thank me later when they realize although it might add a bit to the budget, your sanity is worth every penny. Having someone who can represent you in person at vendor meetings when you cannot be present can relieve so much stress, and just having a professional and experienced planner by your side to guide you through the process is invaluable! From there, let the magic happen.

Until next month!

xo, Whitney
