4 Tips for Being a Thankful Bride-to-Be

The one thing my fiancé and I would both agree on is how generous our family and friends are. We certainly knew this before our engagement but are ever so aware of it now.

Any bride will tell you that getting engaged sets off a flurry of calls, snail-mail cards, parties and drinks, and of course, very generous gifts. Having been on the other side of the gift-giving, I knew just how important properly thanking everyone really is—with a hand-written note that is! Read on for several tips for sending thank you cards that will make the task as easy as saying “I do.”

Find Stationery You Love
An old co-worker told me the second thing to do when I got engaged was buy a ton of thank you cards. She couldn’t have been more right—we used up the whole pack in only a few short weeks. However, this beautiful stationery from May Designs can be completely customized with your soon-to-be initials, upcoming wedding date, or a nod to your bride-to-be status. Having something gorgeous to write on makes the process of sitting down and sending the notes even more enjoyable.

Keep Everything Organized
Each time my fiancé and I have received a gift, we’ve logged it in a spreadsheet noting if the thank you card was sent. It’s easy to forget whether or not we’ve written them out and this system has kept us on track. We’ve also made it our personal mission to get every thank you card out within one week of receiving the gift—because no one appreciates a late thank you card. Did you forget? That’s ok! Better late than never…

Write from the Heart
Ever gotten a very generically written thank you card and wondered if it was copy and pasted? Me too. With that in mind, I always try to write from the heart and let the reader know just how much their gift meant. If it was champagne flutes, I let them know how excited we are to celebrate with them. If it’s something as simple as a bottle of wine, I compliment the gifter on their choice of selecting one of our favorite bottles. Thinking for an extra second or two about what you’re going to say will really make all of the difference to the reader.

Stamps in Advance
There’s nothing worse than having a pile of thank you cards on your desk and no stamps to get them out the door. I make a trip to our post office every few weeks and stock up on booklets of stamps—better safe than sorry. Knowing the stamps are always in the drawer makes sending notes out a breeze. And literally, no excuses.

Considering a Vow Renewal Celebration? Look No Further.

I’ve never been to Montana but one look through Simply Sarah’s pics right here and get me a flight pronto! Its natural beauty is on the jaw-dropping level and the perfect backdrop for this vow renewal inspiration. BASH Bozeman planned and styled this shoot and hit every note perfectly. We’re talking beautiful blooms, bottle of wine, a color palette to die for and more. Considering a vow renewal celebration yourself? Look no further – and pull up kayak.com because those flights aren’t gonna book themselves.

From BASH Bozeman… This shoot was inspired by colors on various sandstone mountains found in Arizona but muted down to feel a bit more muted and less vibrant. With the stunning backdrop that Paradise Valley offers, there’s not a ton that needs to be added to the existing landscape. Collaborating with the florist Julio on the tones, look and feel of the florals was so much fun, per usual. He’s so talented in his craft and it’s always a good time working together. For the invites, I wanted one piece to be an artistic expression of the movement of the Yellowstone River, but not too literal. The whole team brilliantly came together and everything turned out to be the perfect Montana , fall, muted toned inspiration.

This Inspiration is Perfect For a Cozy Fall Gathering

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we thought what better way to get you all ready for cozy gatherings and gorgeous tablescapes then with a fall inspiration shoot that has all of the above. Crafted by Perfect the Event, with autumnal hued florals by Penelope Pots, this gem pairs gold details with rose colored velvet table linens, herbs and greenery and that gorgeous Lombardi House backdrop that we so love. Pore through Alicia Mink’s images for even more inspiration.

From the Photographer… Originally built as a modest one and one half story, shingle style residence, this historic estate was expanded in the 1930s to include colonial revival additions. Once owned by United States Senator Cornelius Cole, who maintained the property for his horses, it was also home to J. C. Newitt, one of the founding directors of the Hollywood Board Trade. The estate was then acquired by Philip and Sylvia Lombardi, retired Vaudevillian performers who moved west from New York City in the 1940s. As vocal coaches to some of the era’s most renowned performers of opera, film and Broadway music, they made their mark in Hollywood coaching Eddy Nelson for his ole in the film, Rosemarie, as well as country singer Johnny Horton. Lombardi House soon became known among the Hollywood elite for the hospitality and discretion of its owners who entertained with great style and aplomb. Music, song and raucous laughter filled this historic Hollywood home as guests dined on fine china and crystal, enjoying the luxury and trappings of this grand estate. Son Raymond Coari Lombardi carried on the family tradition maintaining the property until 2004. He is still remembered warmly by his neighbors for his charming humor and “big heart.”

Upon choosing the venue because of it’s clean slate design and rich history, we wanted our bridal editorial at The Lombardi House to be something that felt warm and seasonal to play off of cool, clean design of the venue. We kept the white on white vibes but throw in cozy colors and oddly unique details. Our Kennedy gown from Sarah Seven was chosen for it’s clean, old Hollywood design, while a loose hairstyle and wild bouquet kept the details true to the warmth of the shoot.

From Beautiful Blues to Sweet Slushies, This Hawaiian Wedding Gets It Oh So Right

The beauty of the ocean – and its amazing color palette – inspired this Hawaiian celebration and we couldn’t be more on board. That is, until we saw the slushies that were served to the lucky guests and our adoration level immediately jumped up several notches. LVL Weddings & Events rocked it when it came to planning this party and it’s the little details (like said slushies) that make us want to come back time and time again to check out more of Brandon Kidd’s pics. Join us in the gorgeous gallery right this way to see them all!

From the Bride… Matthew and I had been friends for over ten years before we even considered dating. Our friendship strengthened over a few years of planning and hosting a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization based in our hometown, until he finally asked me out on my birthday weekend! Our families have known each other for as long as I can remember and I remember being nervous over how my parents would take the news. Almost immediately, our family and friends were completely supportive our relationship. My mom even said she knew it would happen eventually! Within a year, we became engaged and started to plan our dream wedding.

One thing I love most about Matthew is his love for his family and for mine. Thus, it was only natural to desire to plan a wedding for us all to celebrate together in honor of family. Since we always vacationed in Hawaii, it was only natural to invite our extended families to the North Shore of Oahu at Turtle Bay Resort, a place very dear to our hearts. We planned a three day celebration that included a big welcome luau on the first day, a rehearsal dinner on the second and, of course, the wedding ceremony and reception on the third.

I wanted to have a God and family honoring, classic wedding, but I also really wanted to be able to incorporate super “cool”, unique elements into it all. I instantly knew I wanted to have classic white color palette with lots of greenery to go with our Hawaiian destination. My love for the ocean and Matthew’s love for the snowy mountains led me to choose indigo blue and silver accent colors. I admit, I was so daunted by planning a wedding. The best advice came from my mom, who told me that I had already found the most important detail (a good husband!).

Some of my favorite elements for the wedding were the wedding invitations, our florals and, of course, my dress. I was really looking for unique ways to incorporate my style into the wedding. We were very happy to have LVL Weddings coordinate our wedding as they brought all my scattered ideas and inspirations to a united whole. A good example was with the bridesmaids’ dresses. I really wanted my bridesmaids to find something that flattered and suited them, so I let them decide what to order. I was so amazed at how each girl looked so beautiful individually and how they all looked together.

Our ceremony was held on Kuilima Point at the Turtle Bay Resort on a lawn almost completely surrounded by the ocean. On a perfectly sunny Hawaiian day, and our family and friends were greeted with Honey Lilikoi and Dragonfruit Slushies from Wicked HI Slush. As our guests arrived, they were entertained by a string quartet, Oahu Strings. Passion Roots created an 8′ lush semi-circle ground arrangement of lush greenery and white misty to surround us while we recited our vows. The reception tent was so stunning. Passion Roots installed this jaw-dropping greenery chandelier that went across the center. I felt like we were partying in a garden. I loved how everything was so green and lush. I was shocked at how beautiful the napkins and table runners were that LVL hand dyed. I felt that it all elevated the natural beauty of Hawaii and perfectly reflected our style. It was just so amazing to see all these ideas come together on the best day of our lives.

Acts of love and surprise made the wedding so much more beautiful and special for Matthew and me. My grandfather has been a minister for over 50 years. It was so special to have him marry us because he also married all of his children including my mom to my dad. During the ceremony, my brother and Matthew’s cousin performed some of our favorite music. Matthew and I were able to honor our parents with letters and leis during the ceremony. We had the the most amazing steak and lobster from the chef at Turtle Bay. I even got to eat, a lot! Everyone had such a great time while we were able to sneak away to the point with our videographer and photographer. There were so many surprises that I will never forget. There were surprise slideshows and songs. It was so amazing that my dad got Jake Shimabukuro to come do a surprise performance at the wedding. I still can’t believe that happened!

The wedding was so incredibly awesome and I’m happy it was captured by the best photographers and videographers. This was something that I felt was going to be so important and so we hired the best of the best. Brandon and Kristen Kidd and Aaron from Makai Creative took all our worries away by flawlessly capturing every important aspect of the day. I was so thankful with how easy they were to work with and how personable they were. We really want to thank all the professional vendors that made everything possible. Honestly, I felt that everything was perfect.

You’ve Never Seen a City Hall Wedding This Beautiful

Forget everything you know about City Hall weddings and feast your eyes on this magic captured by Elizabeth Messina. It takes city chic to a whole new level of glamour and elegance designed by Simone Lennon Events, with florals by Kathleen Deery Design and the stunning backdrop of San Francisco City Hall. From Monique Lhuillier gown to Rolls Royce getaway, you won’t want to miss a single second of this gorgeous black-tie affair.

Ethereal, utterly romantic and completely city chic is how I would describe Christine and Scott’s stunning San Francisco City Hall fall wedding. As a planner and designer who has planned many weddings at this iconic venue, I’ve found that it’s a very specific bride that fits an affair suited for City Hall. She has to have grand vision, love drama and ultimately a desire to embody the princess bride on a stately scale. Not all brides want or can handle it, but those who can, really take my breath away. Our event vision was elevated but not over the top yet completely elegant and refined. To achieve the look of this black tie, modern and glamourous affair, we used a color palette of ivory, deep red, chocolate and accents of gold that played off the existing color base in City Hall’s iconic Rotunda. Our ceremony featured modern gold chairs with satin ivory cushions set in a half circle facing the staircase with lush floral arrangements flanking the altar space. We softened the venue with ivory draping in each of the surrounding arches and enhanced each line of architecture with amber lighting. For dinner service, we configured dramatic king’s tables to seat one hundred and eighty guests. The understated tablescapes were draped in ivory velvet linens, set with glass gold rimmed chargers each featuring a custom handmade letter press menu personalized with each guest’s name in whimsical calligraphy and dappled heavily with abundant floral. Guests dined on a three course dinner with wine pairings and enjoyed a perfect sweet ending of a multi-tiered butter cream cake and then danced the night away.

5 Tips For Staying True to Your Style While Planning Your Wedding

With so many details involved in planning your wedding day, it is easy to get caught up in all the options and opinions and veer from your true self and style. Once all the details have been selected and every flower is in place, your guests will be able to walk into your event and see all the stylish details that make you, you. After all, it is your wedding – your couple style should shine!

Start small with what inspires you

Grab a hot cup of coffee, or a glass of wine, snuggle up on your sofa and start seeking wedding inspiration. A cozy and relaxing environment will set the tone for the planning process. Start by creating an inspiration board of colors, flowers, and styles that truly make you happy and speak to the vision of your day. This could be as simple as a few coordinating colors, quotes, or gowns that make you feel the way you will want to feel the day of when you see all the details come together.

Organize your ideas for vendor meetings

When it comes to meeting with your vendors, it is good to be prepared with an overall idea of how you see your wedding. You don’t have to have every detail in place, but having an overall style will allow them to work around your details without them throwing different style ideas your way and overwhelming you. Starting off the meeting with your ideas will put you at ease and give your vendors a solid foundation to work upon to make your wedding vision come to life!

Rely on the way the dress makes you feel!

The selection of your wedding dress may be the most bridal aspect of the planning process. It is feminine and fun and should be a staple of your personal style. Research styles and silhouettes of dresses that make you feel the way you want to feel on your wedding day. Your bridal stylist will be able to pull dresses from multiple designers to achieve the look you are looking for.

Also, be mindful of your feelings when trying on gowns. Instead of making your final dress decision on the emotions and reactions of your family and friends, make the decision by how you feel in the gown and if you can see it incorporating well into your entire wedding theme.

Combine your style with your partner’s style

It can sometimes be hard to merge different styles and ideas, but it isn’t impossible and can actually be quite beautiful. Coordinate with your partner to develop a cohesive style together. This could be creating a color palette together or your groom selecting his groom’s cake design. There is something special about seeing two people’s personal styles come together to create a beautifully designed event.

All in the details

Your style can be reflected in many aspects of your wedding design, not only the big ones like the venue, the dress, and the cake. Whether it is a signature scent or a delicate heirloom passed down from generations prior, small details can say a lot about your style and personality. Whatever details you and your partner decide on, have fun with it and take in all the moments that surround your big day!

This Groom’s Expression Is What Love Is All About!

One of my all time favorite moments at any wedding I’m invited to? When the bride walks down the aisle… I turn back and check out the groom. Because more often than not, this expression is priceless. But this Groom right here? His expression is beyond that; it’s absolutely fabulous. Could he smile anymore!? And those happy tears? Icing on the cake. It really doesn’t get better than this folks. Focused Bliss Productions captured this beautiful raw emotion and we’re oh so glad they did!

From Focused Bliss Productions

This story of two high-school sweethearts began when Jon and Karen met at school. While they shared the same friends, for some reason their paths hadn’t yet crossed. One day, while Jon was playing basketball, Karen took notice of this “cute guy” – so she couldn’t resist talking to him when they both waited for the bus-ride home. This conversation quickly led to several dates and becoming official just after only a week!

This was truly a love that was meant to be and lasted through the rest of high school, college, and Jon’s military enlistment and deployments. When Karen was then planning a surprise birthday party for Jon, Jon flipped the surprise on her by asking her to marry him!

This led to this special day on which they tied the knot at the Wedgewood at the Retreat, a golf course nestled among the lush mountains of Corona CA, on their 11th year anniversary. As big Disney fans, their decor had subtle hints of the magical kingdom for their equally magical day – and it is just precious to watch as Jon could barely contain his excitement and tears as Karen came down the aisle.

From the Bride… I feel as if every girl always dreams of her perfect wedding. For me, I thought I wanted an elaborate type of wedding. The type that you would see in fairytale movies. However, I realized that was not us. A lot of the planning was based on Pinterest I fell in love with the rustic concept. After much thought, I wanted the concept to be simple, elegant, and rustic.

For the color palette, both of us would not budge. We both wanted our favorite colors to be part of the wedding. So I looked on Pinterest for shades of blue and pink that would work together. In the end we agreed on a navy blue and blush pink with hints of gold and grey.

Many of the pieces in the wedding speak to us as a couple. For instance, for the wedding cake, we chose to do cupcakes instead because I would always bake cupcakes for him when we first dated back in high school for his birthday. Instead of table names we chose to do Disney couples because we love going to Disneyland. Many of the signs, like the hash tag signs and the table charts were made and handwritten by me. Also we love to go to breweries and wineries, so we spray painted bottles and made them the centerpieces. I also made the flower girl baskets. We also wanted to do a sand ceremony instead of a unity candle because we love how it symbolizes the merging of two people. Also a unity candle can burn out, unlike sand. Also his cufflinks are captain America because it’s his favorite superhero.

Flowers were from MFG florals. We saw the different bouquets that she made during a bridal bazaar. The flowers that were used were some of my favorite flowers, like roses, and babies breath. I just wanted her to incorporate pink and white flowers for the simplicity and elegant effects to go along with out theme.

My gown was from Alfred Angelo. It was the first one I tried on there. I loved the lace detail and the rhinestone beeding belt that was already part of the dress. I remember telling the person who was helping me I want to feel like a princess but noting too elaborate. I didn’t want a lot of bling.

For the cake, we wanted cupcakes instead of a cake. The cupcake had gold wrappings and some had the blue ribbon. We also had a bunny cake topper because I call Jon bunny. The cake had also had a similar lace pattern to match my dress as well as a pink and blue ribbon that we used for to match the color theme.

For the venue, we fell in love with our choice at first sight. I knew that I wanted a wedding outdoors. We also loved how everything was included with the venue and we had the freedom to add our own vendors and take things out.

Planning a Southern Wedding? This Charleston Soiree is a MUST-See.

If an elegant Souther soiree is what you’re after, look no further, darlings. Planned by Samantha Anderson, it is dripping in charm—from the oak trees adorned with Spanish moss, touches of French Blue and an al fresco reception to-die-for. I dare you not to spend an hour poring over the images captured by Sawyer Baird, it’s a doozy.

From Samantha Anderson, Planner & Event Stylist… With live oak tress dripping in Spanish moss, breathtaking sunsets cascading down over the low country marsh, and subtle hints of European architecture and charm, Kaitlyn and Pasha knew immediately that RiverOaks Charleston was where they would join their lives together in marriage.

Inspired by the French Blue painted window shutters of the RiverOaks home, we incorporated this timeless hue along with ice peach, rose pink, cloud grey, and taupe to create their fresh color palette. Guests were greeted with Blackberry Sage Water and Strawberry Lemonade as they arrived and walked the garden-inspired floral lined aisle. A beautiful, billowing arbor adorned with climbing ivy made for a romantically dramatic ceremony altar, while guests sat at weathered wooden benches.

The bride, accompanied by her father, arrived by vintage 1931 Racing Bentley wearing a stunning Vera Wang gown. After the vows, guests made their way to the front courtyard for cocktails. Halfway through the hour, the newlyweds leaned out of the window over looking the quad and waved as they were introduced for the first time as one. Canopied under the branches of strong oak trees, the dining space was sprawled with contrasting wooden guest tables and chairs, as a nod to the brides love of eclectic style.

After dinner, guest danced the night away under a sailcloth tent enhanced with a trio of wooden bead chandeliers, a classic black and white dance floor, and two plush lounge spaces.

4 Stylish Ways to Keep Warm This Winter

Just because the weather is getting drab, doesn’t mean your style has to. Staying warm no longer has to mean covering your favorite outfits with a huge puffy coat or forgetting you have a fashion sense until April. To keep your style going strong through the winter, try these fashion items that will keep you warm and stylish.

FLEECE LINED TIGHTS
Tights are the simplest way to turn a fall outfit into a winter go-to. Pick up a pair of tights that have a fleece liner for added warmth—the extra material will keep your legs warm even in the chilliest weather, but won’t make you look bulky. Pair them with your favorite dress, underneath pants for really cold days, or layer with socks for extra creativity. Everyone should have a simple black pair in their closet, but you can also get creative with colors, cable knit, and more.

BOOTS WITH HIDDEN WARMTH
When the temps drop, you can’t just put on any normal boot and expect your toes not to feel it. Instead of putting on 5 pairs of socks (we’ve been there), consider investing in a pair of boots with hidden warmth inside. We’re loving this pair—lined with leather, suede, and sheepskin, these boots will keep you warm all winter long.

CREATIVE BEANIES
In our opinion, the best thing about winter is that messy hair can easily be covered with a great hat. But beyond that, if you pick a stylish hat you love, you can also use them to instantly enhance a simple outfit. This year, we’re loving creative beanies. Try an embellished one for added flavor, a pommed style for an instant chic feel, or get super warm with a faux fur or cashmere option. Whatever you choose, you’ll never have a bad hair day again–until summertime.

BLANKET SCARVES
Adding a scarf to your outfit is a great way to insert style, but a blanket scarf is the go-to move when you need warmth, too. The extra fabric and oversized feel will keep you warm, and the style will keep you feeling trendy. Pair a striped flannel scarf with an all-black outfit (so simple, right?) or add some color to your outfit with a cheetah-print style.

FORMAL CHURCH OR COUNTRY CLUB WEDDING

A formal church or country club is the perfect spot to really channel your inner Grace Kelly or Princess Kate. Because the rules when it’s formal? Keep it classic. Here’s where you can seriously stun in a ball gown, a long train and layers of lace to show off your feminine side. We suggest looking for a gown that really plays with the details, no matter the shape, like the Tulle and Beaded Strapless Modern Day Ball Gown from Moonlight Couture – the crystals and rhinestones are perfect for a more traditional affair. Want a look that is more streamlined, but still screams princess? Check out the Tulle Mermaid Dress with Cap Sleeves and Detachable Train – the train is everything.

CASUAL GARDEN OR OUTDOOR CELEBRATION

First things first – opting for a more laid-back affair doesn’t mean you still can’t be a little fancy – It just means you’ll want to find a gown that will keep you comfortable, too. To beat the heat, we’re all for keeping it light with spaghetti straps and flowing fabrics, like organza, charmeuse or chiffon – the key is ultra-feminine, but comfortable. This Full A-Line Lace Wedding Dress with Double Straps from Moonlight Couture hits all the right notes with corded lace appliques and a natural waistline perfect for avoiding any trip-ups while navigating the grass. And the Beige & Nude Net Lace Mermaid Vintage Wedding Dress was basically made for an outdoor wedding with beautiful lace appliques and a train that is an absolute stunner without being too traditional.

MODERN PENTHOUSE OR LOFT PARTY

Modern and contemporary weddings are all about the glamour – and that means taking some fashion risks. Whether that’s opting for an all-white pant suit or wowing with a two-piece combo (yes, showing some skin is definitely okay), we say anything goes when you’re celebrating on your very own downtown rooftop. This year, we’re obsessed with anything and everything color, from gold hues to light blush to vibrant reds. One of our faves is this Red Off-the-Shoulder Lace Mermaid Wedding Dress, the perfect mix of elegant and sexy with on-trend 3/4 length sleeves. And for a feminine, yet completely sexy look, we love the Embroidered Lace V-Neck Mermaid Wedding Dress with its statement making back. So loft-worthy.

Photography: Ruth Eileen Photography

RUSTIC BARN OR AL FRESCO SOIREE

Saying “I do” in a rustic setting means opting for something a little vintage or romantic… or both. Think birdcage veils and sweet lace numbers that are made for dancing the night away in a barn, but are still ultra-feminine to keep a good balance between the hay bales and your Big Day celebration. We really love the All-Over Alencon Lace and Beaded Mermaid Dress from Moonlight Couture, because it’s the perfect mix between romance and elegance. And if you are looking for something with a modern twist, yet still vintage, we’re all about the Tulle and Re-Embroidered Lace Jewel Neck Moonlight Dress with its illusion jewel neckline, show-stopping racer back style and figure-flattering mermaid silhouette.

Whether you are tying the knot in your childhood church, saying “I do” in a sweet rose garden or celebrating atop a downtown rooftop, choosing a gown that fits the look of your party as a whole is key. This Fresh Coastal Fete in Santa Barbara Will Have You Pinning it ALL.

As I sit here on this chilly (make that freezing) New England day with my cup of tea in hand, I am wishing I was a guest at this sun-soaked Santa Barbara soiree, with a glass of bubbly in hand instead. LVL Weddings & Events graced every inch with their beautiful touch and it is wildly beautiful, bursting with the prettiest hues of peach and orange. If you’re in search of a happy glow and a slice of inspiration for your Big Day, dive into these images from Brandon Kidd!

What was your most memorable experience from the wedding day?

Bride: Being able to experience the most important day of our lives with the most special people in our lives. I loved having our wedding a destination wedding because it really allowed people to bond and enjoy the weekend.

Groom: We were able to get away from the stress of our daily lives and appreciate what matters most in life – love and happiness! (Cheesy I know but its true!) All the emotions building up while you were walking down the isle.

Would you do it all over again the same way or change anything?

Bride: I want to relive that day the exact same way over and over again. The only thing I regret is not extending the reception an extra hour!

Groom: I would not get a straight razor shave the morning of our wedding from someone that clearly doesn’t know what he’s doing.

What advice do you have for future couples planning their wedding?

Every bride will tell you the same thing. Try not to stress about the small stuff, most our your guests will never know the difference. Also, the day goes by in the blink of an eye!!  Brian and I would squeeze each others hand throughout the night to remind each other to breathe and absorb our surroundings. This was once in a life time and it took teamwork to remember that!

How to Infuse Elegance Into a Bold, Bright Color Palette

Usually when we think of colorful, it goes hand in hand with whimsical or modern affairs but this inspiration is showcasing a different side to bold, bright hues. Backed by a dream team of vendors including design by Brooke Keegan, florals by Oak & The Owl and romantic gowns with a bit of an edge by Rime Arodaky, this shoot is showing just how elegant and classic a little pop of color can be. Get lost in Greg Finck’s gorgeous imagery plus a film by La Boheme Life below.

As a photographer, I am madly in love with the Santa Ynez Valley, in Southern California. This is the background we chose for this wedding editorial with a dream team composed of Brooke Keegan (planning), Oak&The Owl (floral design) and Rime Arodaky (dresses). We shot at Kestrel Park, which is an amazing private estate, which just opened a couple years ago. There are so many options and photographic possibilities in this dreamy venue. We wanted a pop of color in this editorial, and the amazing florals from Nancy (Oak&The Owl) always are such a treat for the eye. Britt’s natural beauty (our model) was enhanced by the great hair&makeup by Heidi (Hair&Makeup Girl) and the edgy though elegant dresses by Rime Arodaky. We started with a portrait session, followed by a ceremony, before ending the day with an amazing sunset in the wild flowers surrounding the property. I truly heart this editorial photoshoot as we wanted to be intentional on many different aspects: popping colors vs. The pastel look that tends to be overseen in the wedding landscapes, sexy though elegant dresses and bride bringing a very modern touch. I think everything just matched perfectly and fitted in this amazing background that is the Santa Ynez Valley.

Drawing Wedding Inspiration From Your Favorite Wines

A night of wedding planning is rarely complete without perusing real weddings while snuggled under a plush blanket sipping a glass of your favorite variety of wine. While I’m certainly not a top-rated sommelier, I enjoy my life as an amateur wine connoisseur and spirited wedding enthusiast. So sit back, under your aforementioned cozy throw, and join me in drawing wedding inspiration from your favorite wines.

Merlot
The cooling temperatures and changing leaves call for a smooth glass of Merlot and a stunning fall wedding. Bridesmaids in beautiful Merlot inspired hues would be the perfect complement to a vineyard wedding.

Pinot Noir
Some of my favorite Pinot’s hail from the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Why not channel a farm to table feel and tie the knot with a picturesque backdrop like Mt. Hood? Whether or not Oregon is your backyard or a destination for you, it is always a wonderful idea to find elements of the day that connect guests to the venue. Locally sourced food and wine is a perfect way to pay homage to the area.

Malbec
Bold and spicy with hints of plum and black cherry. If a Malbec is your preferred variety of wine then there is truly no limiting your creativity when it comes to throwing an equally bold and beautiful wedding reception. Truthfully, all engaged couples should think outside of the box when it comes to their wedding day. Maybe consider a unique color palette, a fun rooftop venue, a dress with a unique silhouette, or ditch the wedding all together and plan a beautiful elopement!

Sauvignon Blanc
If you enjoy Sauvignon Blanc, chances are you’re destined for a bright and cheerful summer wedding. Whether you’re close to the ocean or nestled in the mountains, the summer months are the perfect time to be outside enjoying a tented wedding reception. Consider serving fresh oysters during cocktail hour as they pair beautifully with a cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

Rosé
According to Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby, “A little party never killed nobody!” Feel free to be fun and flirty with your soirée, just like Rosé! Get creative with your floorplan, maybe even consider changing up a traditional seated dinner for more of a cocktail style reception with a variety of small plates offerings. In any case, make sure to leave plenty of room in your floorplan for a great dance floor so your dear guests can kick back and relax!

Rioja
This rich Spanish wine region brings to mind rich decor with saturated colors and an abundance of textures. Why not incorporate Spanish elements, such as tile escort cards or patterned chargers, into your decor?

So tell us, what’s your favorite wine to enjoy on a quiet night in or out at your best friend’s wedding? It’s always fun to look for inspiration in unusual places!

Rain Couldn’t Turn These Smiles Upside Down!

Clouds couldn’t damper the spirits at this stunning celebration – or this beaming Bride and Groom. Far from it. Their “I do’s” were moved inside but smiles never wavered and that’s the type of attitude we love around here. It’s no surprise that these cuties met as Peace Corp volunteers – their positive approach and love of life is radiant in every one of Elisa Bricker’s pics and throughout the film by Shaking Hands Productions. Kari Rider Events tapped into that fabulous energy and created their romantic, warm wedding that leaves us feeling oh so good; enough with the talk though, let’s dive into the photographic proof right this way!

Inn

From Kari Rider Events… Jaime and Brendan’s love story is something out of a movie. Fresh from the campuses of University Delaware and Georgetown, the couple’s journey began in Miami, where they gathered with 48 other Peace Corps volunteers en route to Paraguay. Looking for nothing more than to make a positive impact on a developing country in need, Jaime and Brendan found so much more over sips of wine, late-night card games and impassioned talks about their dreams for the future during their training time in Cumbarity. Two years, an 8-hour drive between assignments, and many abbreviated phone calls (due to poor reception) later, the couple knew they were in it for the long haul. Their engagement was a true reflection of the journey they’d travel as a couple – a mutual proposal and exchange of rings atop the Mauna Kea Volcano in Hawaii with the promise of forever.

Jaime and Brendan chose to wed at the Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels, Maryland – a nod to Jaime’s roots as an officer in the Navy and the couple’s shared love of the water. Rain prevented the planned waterfront ceremony, but that didn’t put a damper on the festivities. Following cocktails inside the Inn, guests were escorted to the sailcloth reception tent, where layers of white, blue and gold created an atmosphere of relaxed elegance. Lacy white and ocean blue linens were juxtaposed with grey-wash farm tables to add textural interest – all tied together with classic white rounded back chairs. Gold-rimmed swirl chargers, sea-glass blue water glasses, and navy and gold flatware stole the show atop the tables, with subtle nautical accents like knotted napkin folds bringing everything full circle. The rain outside only added to the ambiance inside the tent -an intimate celebration for two warm-hearted newlyweds.

The Charm in this English Cotswolds Wedding is Next Level

Gorgeous venue, check. Stunning dress, check. Incredible vendor team, check. The charm? Off the charts. This Cotswolds wedding makes me want to get married all over again. Taylor & Porter‘s imagery is the kind you’ll want to show your grand-children and maybe even, great-grandchildren—and this timeless fete would still be all the heart eyes, or whatever phrase the kids are saying then. Join us in the gallery for more.

From Taylor & Porter Tom & Kat hosted their wedding in two fabulous venues in the heart of the English Cotswolds. Proceedings began with an intimate family rehearsal dinner set at the prestigious Pig Hotel, near Bath. The Pig has a chic and contemporary vibe within in a Georgian mansion house, with cutting edge ‘garden to kitchen’ food where Tom and Kat hosted a dinner the evening before they got married,

Whilst Kat enjoyed a luxurious morning at the Pig making her preparations; Tom and his groomsmen began the day with a pint of beer at ‘The White Horse’, a traditional English pub in Biddlestone, right round the corner from the 18th century church they were getting married in.

The ceremony in the church was a perfect blend of tradition and contemporary touches, including a Pablo Neruda poem, the lines of which had been uniquely stitched into Kat’s Hermione De Paula couture gown and veil.

The guests were then invited to a beautiful reception at The Lost Orangery, where Cornish based ‘Beautiful & The Feast’ served Champagne and canapés in the gardens. In traditional English weather style, every season came in one day! The speeches took place outside the Orangery in bright sunshine, followed by the heavens opening and an amazing rainbow signalling the call to dinner!

The Easiest Table Decor for Your Thanksgiving Gathering

Hosting Thanksgiving Dinner? Let this pretty and totally attainable tablescape be your muse. Using elegant fall details like pumpkins + lush greenery paired with rose gold, classic napkins and a delicious roll at each place setting, the foundation of this table is simple yet so, so stunning. Designed by Love & Honey, with menus by InLoft, and calligraphy name cards by Olde York Station, see this festive holiday inspiration take shape through the lens of Allison Kuhn, plus a film by Arden Film Co.

We wanted to design an inspiration for the holiday’s approaching this fall. We incorporated fall elements to keep the table warm and inviting with the pumpkins, candles, rose gold flatware, lush greenery and navy blue accents. We wanted to a show a table that is attainable for people in their own homes. The greenery was just cut and laid down on the table and then the pumpkins and candles were added. By including the roll on the plate, it sends a more inviting tone to welcome guests to start their meal. We wanted to show the process of getting things ready too, so we included the bread making, wine pouring, etc. We just hope to inspire people to dress up their table for the holiday.

5 Things I Learned In The First Year of Marriage

The first year of marriage creates many opportunities to learn and grow with your new spouse but also with yourself. No matter how long you’ve been together or lived together, you will learn new things about life as you grow together and individually… food related, and all.

1. Guys Need Food
Okay I know I’m not giving an earth-shattering statement here and I know we ALL need and like food but my husband truly is always thinking about food. I didn’t realize it until that first year when we’d have the dreaded “What’s for dinner” conversation every day. I could easily walk through life having eaten Strawberry Mini Wheats for dinner, but that does not fly with my husband. He needs a meal, and by “meal” I mean some variation of meat and potatoes. Call it Beef Burgandy, call it Shepard’s Pie… call it Beef Strew… THERE ARE ALWAYS BOTH MEAT AND POTATOES. Ugh, carb overload!

2. Boundaries Are a Must
In the first year of marriage, you and your spouse are becoming one, but both sets of parents and families look at it as, “we’re just adding one to OUR family.” It’s a common thing that can cause tiffs between all parties. When we got married, we wanted our space and had to learn what we were comfortable sharing with our families, and what we weren’t comfortable sharing. It’s different for everyone, but we had to learn how this new thing worked for us first.

3. Time Management Is Key
We LOVE our families and we found ourselves wanting to visit them often. BUT I will warn you now… when you see one family on a weekend, you want to see the other family the next weekend. This game quickly derails to an endless fest of “keeping things fair.” We became drained that first year because we spent too much time running back and forth between our families houses. We were spending more time with family on weekends than we were as a couple. That was not okay with us. We learned that managing our time was important and that we ultimately just have to do what’s best for the two of us in our marriage. That’s the most important.

4. The Value of Love Languages
Of course, before my husband and I got married, we knew each other’s love languages in the 7 years that we had dated. But we didn’t fully grasp them and understand the importance of catering to them until that first year of marriage. I’m not the best gift giver, but my husband’s love language is giving and receiving gifts. I had to learn to be more aware of his needs even though it was my natural disposition to forget details like that.

5. Wedding Decor Becomes Home Decor
This has to be something everyone experiences to some degree. Our wedding included glasses of sand and succulents, gold mirrored signs, pink roses, and gold mason jars. And as young newlyweds fresh out of college with a decor budget of zero dollars, we embraced the leftover wedding decor as our home decor. All the more reason to select great wedding decor right!?

The first year of marriage brings its challenges, but it is so special because it’s new for both of you as you figure out how to do life together. As long as you figure out what’s best for the two of you first, the rest will come easy. Oh and mix in a salad once in a while… damn you, meat and potatoes!

Wedding Thank You Note Do’s and Don’ts

The cake has been frozen, the dress has been preserved, and the gifts have been unwrapped and organized. But your wedding duties aren’t over just yet.

When guests generously give gifts, after potentially having to travel to your wedding, it’s important to show your gratitude. Here are some tips to remember.

Do: Make each note personal. Does it take a lot of time? Yes. But throwing in at least one personalized line about the gift they gave you will take your thank you card from run-of-the-mill-obligation to an actual demonstration of gratitude.

Think: Thank you so much for celebrating our new chapter with us. It was an honor to have you there. We can’t wait to put that waffle maker to good use some Saturday morning soon!

Another option is to include a line about a particularly endearing wedding memory. For instance: Thank you for helping us celebrate our big day. It was a joy to have you there. The photos of you leading the Conga line are priceless!

Don’t: Wait too long! The absolute latest your cards should go out is 12 weeks after your wedding. If you plan to use a photo from your wedding, this might mean ordering thank you cards only a day or two after receiving your pictures.

Do: Include your new partner. Divide and conquer the list — it’ll keep your brain from frying and help friends and family members see you as a unit.

Don’t: Overthink it. Thank you cards don’t need to be short novels. Keep it to around four sentences— you don’t need to write a lengthy letter expressing how much everyone means to you. They already know they’re important to you; you invited them to your wedding!

Do: Use your best handwriting. Yes, your hand might cramp after writing that many notes, but try and treat each note as if it’s the only one you’re writing that day. Some brides even write one thank you note a day. By the end of the allotted 12 weeks, you’ve probably got most of your notes taken care of.

Don’t: Forget to send cards to those who simply gave you cash. Sometimes receiving money can be the best gift of all–you can spend it however you wish! Let the giver know how you’ll be spending it, whether it’s on a couples massage during your honeymoon or a brand new coffee maker.
