Nasher Sculpture Center in Texas was the Backdrop for a Modern Garden Wedding

Putting together this wedding for you guys today was fun. Like brought me back to the very early days of SMP kind of fun where I couldn’t decide which images to share because there were so many good ones. But you know what? Despite the fact that the details were GORGEOUS and the backdrop by Engaged Events and florals by Abelia Floral Design stunning, it was the bride and groom that made me fall so in love…their total joy leaping out of every image, captured perfectly by Stephanie Brazzle. And while a wedding is innately a more formal day than your usual Saturday, this pair never seemed to take themselves so seriously that they couldn’t let the love keep center stage. This is a wedding for the books. I’m obsessed.

From the Bride… Every day, the summer before I met my husband, Peyton, I prayed for him. I have countless entries in my prayer journal where I prayed that I would meet my future husband by the end of the summer, not knowing who I was necessarily praying for, but praying boldly and specifically that God had laid this person on my heart and that this was his perfect timing. I met Peyton at the end of that same summer in 2015 at a young adults retreat that our church hosts every Labor Day weekend. We got engaged a little over a year later!

I loved the dreaminess of the Nasher Sculpture Center and after visiting a few venues, I knew that it was the perfect one for our outdoor wedding. We chose a neutral color palette of gold, silver and white with pops of navy blue and lots of greenery. I wanted whatever we added to the garden and museum to feel natural, so I chose some wood and marble accents to go along with the neutral color scheme.

The week of our wedding, I noticed that the weather forecast was constantly fluctuating between rain and sunshine, so I prayed multiple times a day for no rain, the only thing that could prevent my dream of an outdoor wedding. Little did I know, but Hurricane Harvey was to blame for the fluctuating forecast. The morning of the wedding and the day the hurricane hit Houston, it drizzled steadily in the morning and even poured for a short time, but I had a feeling that it would clear by the time we got to the venue. I had a peace knowing that God would answer yet another prayer!

Our Planner Whitney with Engaged Events called me as we were finishing getting dressed at the hotel that the team had concerns about the weather and wanted to move everything inside though the forecast showed that things were going to clear up later that afternoon. I had confidence that rain would hold off, so I told her that if things needed to move around slightly they could, but I wanted everything to be outside even if that meant something might get wet.

Whitney worked with the teams and made some slight changes in the reception layout were even better than we originally planned for the layout to be. I give her all the credit for helping me convince everyone to keep the reception outside. And I am so glad we did because we had the most beautiful August weather I had ever experienced in Texas! The rain had made it a cool(er) afternoon and evening, perfect for our outdoor reception.

Our photographer, Stephanie Brazzle, captured the day perfectly. There was so much joy and celebration on our wedding day, and each photo radiates the excitement and love we felt! She captured the dreaminess of the venue, the sweetest details and so many special moments that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

The Creek Haus Wedding With Jewel Tones + Rustic Elegance

Texas weddings can be tricky… especially if you’re determined to have an outdoor ceremony. As this couple realized, they needed to shoot for Spring or Fall if they wanted any semblance of cooperation from the weather. So they took their time planning and went for a March wedding at The Creek Haus, a property of Vista West Ranch in Dripping Springs. Read on for more from the Bride!  ~photography by Austin Wedding photographer, Alyssa Nikole.

From the Bride… I knew from the beginning that I wanted an outdoor wedding. Living in Texas that limits your time frame to Spring or Fall, and even still it’s dicey. We chose March and lucked out with great weather.

My favorite memories from the day were having our pup, Finnley, be a part of the ceremony, seeing my parents’ reactions throughout the day, actually eating dinner at the reception with my HUSBAND, and dancing the night away. One thing that was important to both of us was writing our own vows. It was definitely a highlight of the ceremony, and there were not many dry eyes from what I was told.

The other details of our day really came about organically. The floral and mix-matched bridesmaid dresses really created the look and color inspiration for the day. To be honest, I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I could not have been happier. I created a color palette of reds, pinks, green, and navy, gave my bridesmaids an inspiration board (long, flowy dresses with varied textures), and allowed them to pick their own dresses. I had final approval, but ultimately, I wanted each of my bridesmaids to feel comfortable and be able to wear their dresses again. I then showed Petal Pushers my floral inspiration board along with my bridesmaid dresses and asked them to have the floral tie everything together. And they nailed it.

In order to save money, I did a few DIY projects for the wedding. My mom helped me make six white chiffon table runners, which we used on tables in the reception along with candles and greenery. I created the bar menu sign, cards & gifts sign, honeymoon fund sign, and bought a bunch of cheap gold and black frames which I filled with photos of Alvin and me together and ones from our childhood. The frames were placed on the reception tables. My personal favorite DIY project was our welcome sign, which I created from an old window pane I had held on to for a long time.

Now that the planning is over, my recommendations for future brides and grooms are to enjoy your engagement. The time will fly by, and a longer engagement (ours was 16 months) means having time to leisurely plan your wedding. Also, make sure you stay true to yourself. While friends and family may express their wishes for the day, ultimately do what speaks to you and will make the two of you happy. Pick what things are most important and what isn’t as important and use that to help find areas to save money and what to put more of your budget towards. For us, that meant Paperless Post save the date emails, opting only for photography and not videography, and re-using the bride’s and bridesmaids’ bouquets in the reception décor. In the end it is a celebration of love, so don’t lose sight of that. Everything will fall into place.

5 Things You Should Always Have on Hand Before Guests Arrive

We’ve talked about how to style your guest bedroom before, but making sure your guests have everything they need, is just as important. From extra toothbrushes to a glass of water before they turn in, make sure you check off this list before your visitors arrive!

Extra Toiletries

We’ve all done it. Forgotten our toothbrush! It’s especially embarrassing when you’re a guest in a home versus a hotel. Uhh, do you have an extra toothbrush I can use? Don’t make your guests ask you that. Have a few extra toothbrushes and convenient toiletries like soap, tooth paste, mouthwash, q-tips, shampoo and conditioner, etc. in plain sight.

Fresh Towels

This is a no-brainer but absolutely something you should never forget to leave our for your house guests! Include wash cloths as well. I know people who don’t use them but I personally do every single day to wash my face. Have them there for your guests to use if they wish.

Extra Blankets + Pillows

Being away from home in and of itself can disturb a good night’s sleep. Make sure your guests have extra blankets and pillows so they don’t get chilly or stiff necks. For pillows, make sure to have a medium fill, nothing too soft or too fluffy, to accommodate all types of guests.

Hair Dryer

I always like to keep an extra hair dryer in our guest bath. An inexpensive travel-size one is a great and does the trick, so guests don’t have to pack theirs along! Let them know you’ve got one in advance so they don’t have to bring theirs if they’d don’t want to.

A Glass of Water

Don’t make your guests sneak to the kitchen in the middle of the night for a glass of water. Offer them one before bed, or have bottled water already stocked up on their nightstand. It’s the little details that they’ll so appreciate!

Citrus Inspired Brunch Inspiration with an Artful Twist

Stuck on a theme for your wedding, bridal shower, engagement party, etc.? Say hello to the reason that ‘brunch’ is the best. idea. ever. A citrus-inspired brunch that is bursting with an insanely delicious color palette, to be exact. And we have Erin Wilson PhotographyJessika McCuin Weddings, Vase & Vine  and the entire vendor team to thank. It includes what might possibly be one of my favorite backdrops ever, courtesy of Katie Marie Art & Design, which is wisely repurposed from ceremony to reception and for bridal portraits, to boot. It’s truly one slice of inspo you don’t want to miss out on—see it all here.

From Erin Wilson PhotographyWe envisioned a Summer Sunday wedding brunch style heavy on the citrus and inspired by beautiful watercolor tones. We were in love with the tones of a grapefruit and fell in love when we found these beautiful peach linens.

We wanted to shoot this shoot with elements of a real wedding with cake cutting, game playing, first dances and a send off. We loved having this super cute real couple to show how real couples would look with a beautiful wedding like this. We wanted it to feel real and show brides how they could look with this as their wedding day.

I envision a day like this filled with mimosas, outdoor games, sitting on the front porch and enjoying the sunshine. I love how light and color filled this entire wedding inspiration shoot is. You can see the watercolor elements showcased in the custom painting backdrop, the painterly icing on the cake and the watercolor liner of the paper invitation suite. The punch of bright florals and the flow of the soft green dresses turned out so beautifully. I would just love to see these colors used more and more.

Charleston’s Upstairs at Midtown was the Perfect Space for this Laid Back Wedding

Thank you so much to Simply Sarah for taking over our editorial today! We started with a GORGEOUS Rain-Filled Southern Wedding, then moved on to the prettiest of pretty Inspiration Shoots that was all about the photography and now…now we’re sharing a CLASSIC Charleston celebration with a groom who serenaded his bride on a rooftop and a kiss that will melt even the most discerning of hearts.

Brooke + Derek are no strangers to the events industry. They met while working together at Universal Studios then later found themselves both with Marriott. When it came time to plan their wedding, however, Brooke + Derek found themselves a bit indecisive.

Originally, the couple booked The Gadsden House, King Street Hospitality Group’s newest + largest property located in Charleston, SC. Several months into planning a lavish + rather large affair, Brooke + Derek decided they wanted to host a more intimate gathering with only their immediate family + closest of friends. Thankfully, King Street Hospitality Group’s smaller venue, Upstairs at Midtown, was available on their previously decided wedding date. The couple quickly shifted gears + hired in-house planner, Kathleen Shuler, to design + execute an equally as exquisite yet smaller event.

After the pair completed taking photos, Brooke + Derek got to mingle with their family and even enjoyed their favorite “bar snacks” during cocktail hour. Just before dinner, the couple snuck away for a private moment on the venue’s rooftop where Derek serenaded Brooke via guitar.

As busy professionals, Brooke + Derek didn’t have much time for wedding planning. Brooke, daughter of a chef, voiced that food + drink were of huge importance for the couple and her parents. Derek, hailing from a smaller family, wanted the evening to feel much like a family reunion. With these priorities, Kathleen hit the ground running.

Starting with the food + drink, Kathleen worked closely with Derek Falta, King Street Hospitality Group’s culinary director to craft a menu that offered an elegant take on Lowcountry favorites, including fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese + bacon jam. In addition to Charleston’s classics, the menu involved a spin on Brooke’s favorite drink…a spicy blackberry jalepeno margarita (which also served as escort “cards” with individuated calligraphed glasses) + a nod to her dad’s favorite late night snack…chocolate chip cookies + milk.

After conceptualizing the menu, Kathleen got to work on designing aesthetics. Brooke + Derek had refined tastes but in general, were a laid back couple. Keeping Derek’s request for a “comfortable, casual affair” in mind, Kathleen + team were driven to create a celebration that was elegant without being overly genteel. This “happy medium” was created by pairing velvet linens with simple white china, pheasant feather decor with leather place cards, colorful lounge pieces with simple x-back chairs and impressive greenery with just pops of mauve, magenta and rose.

After a fabulous dinner spread and a room full of toasts, the couple danced all night under the stars to DJ Big Bad Ben before their sparkler exit.

Four Seasons Scottsdale Destination Wedding Filled With Color

Weddings are almost always a “destination” weekend for at least a few of the guests! This Scottsdale, Arizona wedding brought friends and family from all over to celebrate Tori and Geoff’s weddings … a celebration brimming with splashes of southwestern flavor and filled with an abundance of colorful details at the Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale.  It’s tagged as a winter wedding – after all, it did take place in February – but at first glance, there’s no way this appears in the least bit chilly. Chalk that up to the friendly, warmth seen from beginning to end. Our thanks to Rachel Solomon Photography for sharing the love!

From Rachel Solomon PhotographyTori & Geoff, residing in the Dallas area, had a stunning southwest-inspired destination wedding in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona. Filled with desert details, cactus, succulents, and plenty of color, this laid-back couple’s wedding was flawlessly executed by Emily Clarke Events.

From the Bride… Most importantly, we wanted our wedding to be FUN! We are so incredibly laid back, and we have a lot of fun together, and we wanted our wedding to be a reflection of our relationship with each other. We didn’t want anything super fancy and formal because we aren’t that way. We like to have a good time, we’re silly, and we wanted everyone to feel comfortable and enjoy themselves to the fullest.

And if you’re not already in love with this wedding, you will be ~ after you watch this short film from Marc Roberts Videography. Tori’s father’s words to his baby girl …. well, let’s just say, it’s why every couple needs photos and a film to remember their wedding day!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/281519252 600 338]

From the Bride… The thing I love the most about Geoff is his heart. He has the sweetest, most thoughtful and compassionate heart of anyone I know. I’m a big believer in the Five Love Languages as well, and I feel mostly loved by acts of service. Since the beginning of our relationship, Geoff has constantly cared for my family, friends, our dogs and me. He has a servant’s heart, and when I saw him caring for the people I cared about the most, I knew he was the one. One of my favorite memories when we first started dating was our first official road trip. We went to beach, and on our way home, we stopped at one of those drive thru animal safaris. I don’t know if I had ever laughed so hard in my life. Geoff and I were terrified of the ostriches, and we swear they targeted our car. They are so creepy! Going on a road trip with Geoff helped me visualize how a future with him would be, and I loved and laughed every minute of our trip. I couldn’t imagine being with anyone else.

From the Groom… We decided early on in 2016 that we really wanted to visit the island of Nantucket. We have always like the culture, food, and scenery there. We flew up to Boston in early August and went to a Red Sox-Yankees baseball game that night and drove to Chatham, MA the next day. From there, we chartered an “island hopper” plane to Nantucket (since all the ferries were booked). We walked to the most famous location on the island, Brant Point, where I had a local photographer waiting to take some candid pictures of us. Despite the travel delays and hot weather, she still said yes!

. . . . . . . . . .

Step Into a Modern Boho Home with a Gigantic Waterfall Island

Brace yourself… for all the envious feels. Today’s home tour not only has the most gorgeous (and gigantic) waterfall island—it’s got the loveliest modern-boho vibe throughout that is just so inviting. Bethany of The Posh Home has truly crafted a welcoming abode that’s also realistic and livable, while turning up the volume on pretty. With photography by both Jcqlin’s Photography and Jamee Edwards, come along for the full tour in one seriously beautiful gallery!

What would you consider your design style or personality?

I can appreciate a lot of different styles but right now I love a more modern boho design style. I love clean lines paired with a more comfortable boho look.

Can you tell us about your inspiration for your home?

I dreamed of what my kitchen would look like before we moved into our home. I wanted a large island with the waterfall edge as a statement. I wanted an island that could sit at least 5 people and also have lots of space to cook and entertain with. I enjoy cooking regularly for my family and friends so having a functional space is extremely important to me.

The inspiration that drove my living room design was wanting to create a space to entertain in and relax in. It’s a space I created more for my husband and I to entertain in that looks put together (without the kids toys)! The family room is our family space, while the living room is our space.

In designing my bedroom I wanted to create a relaxing retreat for my husband and I. We went with cooler tones to create this space. We also made sure to invest in comfortable bedding and rugs to keep our space cozy.

For our bathroom remodel I wanted to create a modern space that I enjoy going into to get ready for the day and that I can wind down in the evening in. We brightened up the walls and put in pretty mood lighting around the mirrors and mood lighting above the bathtub. Investing in lighting is something that’s very important to me, it makes such an impact in a space. We chose some modern touches with geometric wallpaper, brass mirrors, and wall sconces.

Are there any mistakes you made when decorating or remodeling?

I think the trickiest thing when it comes to remodeling is the unexpected surprises you can’t always plan for. We ran into some roadblocks for our house remodel and addition that the city wouldn’t approve because of our elevation in the floodplain.

Can you talk about designing around a family? Ensuring that the space is beautiful and yet functional for a family?

The key is to make sure you have functional storage. We chose storage baskets and cabinets to hide some of the toys. My daughters can still access everything yet we can put things away easily. It keeps our space cleaner and hides the clutter. I also typically try to choose fabrics that are durable and easy to clean. My lucite bar stools are modern and still functional for kids since they can easily be wiped down. I also have slipcovered dining chairs that have removable covers that can be bleached. Overall, I would say storage, easily to clean surfaces, and fabric that can easily be cleaned are my go to’s for having a functional space for the family.

What stores or online resources are your faves?

I love CB2, World Market, Article, Overstock to name a few!

A Wedding at Georgian Hall in Athens with Southern Charm for Days

We have SUCH a special day planned on SMP! The lovely and talented Simply Sarah is taking over the blog and our instagram in one of the most beautiful little adventures we’ve ever featured, filled with stunning photography and pure, totally unabashed love. Our first Simply Sarah wedding is all about the Southern Charm and when I tell you that there are amazing lessons baked into every perfect detail, I’m hardly doing this wedding justice. So make sure to read alongside the gorgeous imagery (and stunning florals from Colonial House of Flowers) and you just might fall in love all over again.

From the Groom… Where to begin…I would say our love story starts with her smile. That’s what drew me in. Little did I know that smile was going to turn into my wife. I would see that smile from across the room and couldn’t help to smile back at her, knowing in my head one day she’s going to be all mine! Fast forward to six years later and being engaged…I know it is all cliché to call her my best friend, but there is no one in my life that comes close to the bond we have between each other. Every day I look forward to her coming home from work. As soon as she walks in we smile at each other and hug for about 4mins and then get in our comfy clothes and relax.

From the Bride… He’s my best friend, my biggest supporter, and the greatest love I could have ever hoped for. He is always waiting with a smile and open arms when I walk into the door at the end of the day and it’s the best feeling in the world when he holds me like he hasn’t just seen me that morning! His kindness, devotion to our relationship, and fun spirited nature are only at the surface of the reasons why I love him.

When we first started planning our wedding we knew we wanted to get married in Athens, GA because it’s where we met, fell in love, and started our relationship. I fell in love with The Hill from the moment I saw it – the Hill is a venue tucked away on the outskirts of Athens that is a collection of gorgeous antebellum and 20th century homes that have been moved to the property and restored. The homes sit among lush landscapes and gardens. Behind one of the homes there is a sunken garden surrounded by low brick walls, with iron gates on both ends, shaded by trees overhead where our ceremony was held. It’s so dreamy! Our reception was held in downtown Athens at the Georgian Hall, a ballroom of a former hotel that served as the “social focal point” for Athens and surrounding areas for much of the 20th century. It’s new renovation is just beautiful with original restored art deco flooring, two large arch oak doors in the center of the space, marble and white pillars, and tons of natural light from the floor to ceiling arch windows.

I’ve always said I wanted it to rain on my wedding day… seriously. It rained on my grandparents wedding day and I’ve always heard from my Grandma Marilyn how the rain was lucky! The forecast for our day was pretty much 100% chance of rain all day. We planned an outdoor ceremony with absolutely no rain plan other than a bunch of umbrellas! Thanks to a lot of prayers to my Grandpa Ernie the rain held off for a majority of the morning. Right before the ceremony it started raining pretty hard and I was sitting in the car with my dad waiting to walk down the aisle. Right when I got out of the car and started to walk across the bridge to the ceremony the rain stopped.

It was so special to have my sweet dad walk me down the aisle looking at the love of my life. Ben and I made a last minute decision to read our vows at the ceremony. We took a moment during our ceremony to look back and our guest. The rainy garden made for such an intimate setting and it was so special to share those moments with all our loved ones.

Our two venues are filled with southern charm. I wanted to bring a timeless look into the two spaces incorporating soft neutrals, elegant touches, and a classic style. My hope was that the ceremony felt intimate and relaxed followed by a festive celebration with all of our favorite people! Our wedding day was an absolute dream from start to finish. It makes me tear up just thinking about how perfect it was! The day was filled with so much love and we couldn’t be more grateful for everyone that played a part.

BRIDE TIP!

I went into our wedding 100% confident about our wedding photography. When photography is one of your top priorities for your wedding that’s saying A LOT! We had the pleasure of doing our engagement session with Sarah the year before our wedding. She was so easy to work with and puts you at ease right away. I would highly recommend doing an engagement shoot with her to get to know her, see how she works, and to get comfortable behind the camera! We were both a little nervous about being photographed and by doing an engagement shoot neither of us had any apprehension going into the wedding day.

Sarah’s work speaks for itself. It’s effortless, timeless, and genuine. She’s as much an incredible photographer as she is a joy to have around. We learned from our engagement shoot how efficient she is and boy is that helpful on a wedding day when you’ve got so much packed into that one day! We were able to actually enjoy the day, time with each other, and loved ones without feeling like it was just a full day photo shoot. After it’s all said and done photography is the one thing you actually get to take away from your wedding day and in my opinion that makes it priceless. It was an honor to have Sarah behind the lens captured the moments that we’ll cherish for a lifetime. Sarah, I admire you as a photographer and adore you as a friend! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being there on our most special day. Love, Katherine and Ben

RiverOaks Charleston Wedding Inspiration with Stunning Photography

We’re knee deep in our Simply Sarah total takeover today and up next is a Charleston stunner where photography takes center stage and the beautiful low country backdrop takes each image to a new level. When I was curating this shoot for SMP, I initially began with the beautiful details from A Charleston Bride and the pretty florals by Stephanie Gibbs. But as I dove deeper, it was truly the imagery that captured my heart – the still moments where this gorgeous bride is captured in her pure and captivating beauty. And it reminded me that THIS is why we spend money on amazing photographers, this is why we look and look until we find that person who can see through the details of the day and into those moments of simple and so very real beauty.

From SarahIn terms of the overall design, I wanted to pay homage to the surroundings but still create an additional layer of formality.

We pushed this concept in our softer color palette and overall design elements. The backdrop of our venue, RiverOaks Charleston, was the perfect mix of European timeless architecture and low country landscape.

The way the Spanish moss covered oaks balance with the stucco structure is so effortless. The floral had a romantic lush presence and the bright blooms created depth on the cement moss colored linens.

There was structured lines found in the crystal cut glassware to add a hint of modern, but the stationery kept it soft with touches of French blue and garden green. What we loved so much with this event was how each element perfect enhanced the other. The backdrop had a place in the story just as much as the added details.

Adamson House Wedding Under The Old Oak Tree

Sarah and Kyle were married at the historic Adamson House, right on the beach in Malibu. They fell in love with the venue because of the amazing 100+ year old tree that they were married under and the ocean views. Their Save-The Date featured a watercolor drawing of the tree and invited guests to “meet us in the garden.” ~from Rebecca Yale Photography

Twine Events used both the ocean and garden themes throughout the day. They used seashells mounted on lucite as the table numbers and multi-colored sea glass as the escort cards for something from the ocean and to bring in a little garden element they gave out cookies with pressed flowers on them. As favors, Copper Willow Paper Studio pressed small muslin bags with tiny notes inside each bag printed on plant-able seed paper with a sheet of paper containing seeds that could be planted to grow flowers.

The girls wore light blue Joanna August’s dresses in the same color, but chose their own silhouette, which paired beautifully with the lush bouquets and trailing blue and green ribbons created by Flowerwild. The bride’s nieces and nephews served as her adorable flower girls and ring bearers donning bowties and flower crowns for the occasion.

The bride wanted a lightweight beach appropriate dress and chose a beautiful lace number with an intricate veil and paired it with simple nude heels, bracelets from both mothers and a borrowed handkerchief that also served as her something blue.

The reception was held on the other side of the house with a beautiful ocean view. Tables were a mix of long and rounds with light blue table runners with matching napkins from La Tavola Fine Linens with hand tied silk ribbons at each place setting. The tables were sprinkled with a mix of larger centerpieces, smaller bud vases and hundreds of candles in both clear and colored mercury glasses.

Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the courtyard of the house where they found their seats in a beautiful escort card display of sea glass placed on a billowing piece of blue silk resembling the ocean, with a large floral installation and sprinkled with bud vases of dahlia’s. Guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres beautifully crafted by Woah Nelly and two signature drinks served on inlayed trays from the Ark with sprigs of lavender in them.

The couple enjoyed their first dance to Etta James’ At Last while the sun turned golden behind them and then cut their cake before sneaking off for some golden hour portraits. Guests enjoyed a family style meal while the bride and groom’s father’s and siblings made toasts. In addition to the cake Woah Nelly created beautiful fresh fruit and chocolate trays that were placed on each table for guests to nibble on during dancing.

San Diego’s Scripps Seaside Forum Wedding with Love & Puppies!

There are a few photographers that we can always count on to take the Style Me Pretty vibe…and run with it in a way that elevates our own brand to a place where wedding dreams are made. And Savan Photography is one of those talents. A quick search for their weddings on SMP will instantly prove to you that they are eyes behind some of our most beloved weddings. And this one – where the gorgeous bride is an amazing calligrapher with mad skills of her own – is one of my new favorites. A seaside celebration where the love bounces off every single image and the perfect details only take a backseat to the pure adoration that this pair has for one another. Read on for all of the pretty!

From the Bride… Jimmy and I really wanted to add a lot of personal touches to our wedding details to really show our personality and things we love (like our puppies and love for sprinkles). Being a calligrapher, I wanted to showcase that through our invitations and bigger displays and really “wow” our guests with some of those pieces.

We picked Scripps Seaside Forum because Jimmy is from Ohio and his one request was to get married near water. I think we definitely delivered that! We mainly wanted our guests to just have fun, be happy and enjoy all of the little things! It was a day filled with love and a day we will never forget!

From Savan Photography…The bride, owner of Pirouette Paper, designed her own invitations with a soft and natural color palette of white, gray and gold. The gray letterpress with gold foil on the invitation brings some texture and the floral envelope liner gives a pop of color and greenery to the suite. The fold out details card with custom illustrations is delicately wrapped in vellum with a gold wax seal to have an additional piece of fun. The whole suite was tied in a beautiful soft gray silk ribbon and posted with a custom stamp.

A similar design was brought in to the reception details through the menus and envelope place cards which each contained a hand-written note from the bride and groom. The wooden welcome sign, hand-painted and written in calligraphy by Kaylyn was hung and delicately draped with greenery to welcome guests to the beach-side venue. The stunning table assignment display was all handmade by Kaylyn and her dad, with each guest’s name being cut out in vinyl, placed on acrylic pieces and hung on the hand-painted board.

The venue was a perfect waterfront setting, directly over the sand of the La Jolla Shores. With the Scripps Pier in the background, Kaylyn and Jimmy said “I do” in front of their closest friends and family. The ceremony was held on the front lawn followed by a night of great food and dancing with a gorgeous view of the San Diego sunset.

Kaylyn wore a Stella York ballgown dress with lace details and a beaded belt. It was perfect for twirling on the dance floor and running on the sand. Jackie of Penelope Pots dreamt up the most beautiful florals for Kaylyn and Jimmy’s special day. The bouquets were full of white blooms and subtle greens including mint and other unique florals. The reception was overflowing with more gorgeous centerpieces, and installments of elevated greenery.

See even more of the day unfold in this beautiful wedding film from Theater 10.

Although Kaylyn and Jimmy’s puppies couldn’t make it to the wedding, they made sure they were honored by having treat bags from their pups, Grayson and Olive for the human guests to take home to their pups. Kaylyn has an unhealthy love for rainbow sprinkles, so Susie Cakes and VGs donuts made sure there was enough sprinkles to go around.

3 Common Interior Design Mistakes You Might Be Making

Layering your home with pretty isn’t just about finding the right pieces—it’s also about knowing how to incorporate those pieces, properly. From how to make an area rug work for your room (not against it) to hanging curtains and mounting lighting, I’ve personally made all three of these mistakes. Have you? If so, see how to fix them below!

Ceiling-Mounted Lighting

Lighting makes a statement, so make sure to get that statement right with the proper measurements. For an 8 foot ceiling, aim to hang a pendant or chandelier 30 to 34 inches over a table. For each additional foot of ceiling, mount your lighting 3 inches higher. Also, avoid hanging pendants or chandeliers that are wider than your table—lighting should be about a foot narrower than your table.

Area Rugs

Have you ever put down a brand new area rug that you loved in store or online and it just didn’t seem to fit with the room? The problem is most likely not the size, color or pattern—but more likely, your layout and how you have your furniture placed on the rug. In a room where multiple furniture pieces are used, (like a living room) use area rugs to connect the pieces in your room and create a seamless flow. Avoid placing all of the furniture legs completely on or off of your rug. This can make your space feel too crowded or too empty. A good in between is front legs on the rug, back legs off.

Window Treatments

Naturally, you’d think that curtains need to be mounted and hung around the window frame, right? Wrong. This can actually make your windows feel a whole lot smaller and let in a lot less light. For height, aim to mount the curtain rod 6-8 inches above the window frame. For width, extend the curtain rod 3-6 inches outside of the frame.

Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate Wedding ~ Always A Thrill

We’ve featured many weddings at Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate Vineyards for pretty obvious, pretty breathtaking reasons. As a wedding venue, it is beyond spectacular! Andrew and Tracy’s wedding, captured to perfection by Jeremy Chou Photography and Robert Michael Films has definitely moved into our favorites column.

From Robert Michael FilmsSome of my favorite details of this wedding include the always amazing views and sunset at Malibu Rocky Oaks, floral installs and chandeliers that danced above the reception tables as the breeze gently rolled in across the mountains.

With multiple wardrobe changes made throughout the night. The bride and groom looked dapper for their ceremony – with Andrew in a tux and Tracy in a long sleeve illusion lace wedding dress. They later changed into traditional Vietnamese wedding outfits before a final change with a short sleeve wedding dress and even matching jean jackets for the reception!

But by far my most favorite moment was when Andrew paused mid-vows and said, “I’m so emotional right now.” That one moment became the cornerstone for how this wedding film was constructed as that exchange really summed up the way Tracy and Andrew feel about each other. Act one and two consist of the groom and then the bride getting ready and exchanging their heartfelt vows, followed by an epic dance party reception during act three.

A Romantic Charlevoix Elopement in the Dunes

We rounded last week out with an elopement shoot and we’re starting fresh this week with a new beautiful elopement, and I’m not mad about it. Because both of them are feet-in-the-sand and totally focused on the love. Today’s shoot, styled and planned by Kelly Sweet and Shanell Photography, will pull you in and hold you there. From the stunning bride (could she be any prettier?) and her flowing dress to the sweet details and intimate dinner—there’s an entire gallery full of pin-worthy goodness!

From Shanell PhotographyShooting at the Dunes or having an elopement there has been a dream of mine for quite sometime, having it executed was simply amazing. This specific vision was not an easy task to execute and came with some obstacles, however having the best vendors and friends in the business helped to make this dream a reality.

Together my friend Kelly (from Kelly Sweet Photography) and I worked to plan and style this shoot, truly coming together for community over competition. With vendors she had relationships with and vendors I had relationships with, we made the most romantic and stunning elopement you could ask for!

From the flowy dream dress by Carol Hannah to the sandy dune filled beaches of Charlevoix, and stunning floral, every detail was perfection. The couple had the most amazing chemistry and couldn’t have been more stunning and great to work with. Each and every vendor came together and added their own special sparkle to this event.

5 Things a Groom Should Never Forget on His Wedding Day

My husband and I were in a wedding last weekend and I was quickly reminded how easy guys have it. While us ladies had to start hair and makeup at 9am (for a 4pm wedding start time), my hubs went out golfing for the day… and he only had to be ready an hour-ish before the wedding. Not fair! But that doesn’t mean a groom’s getting ready routine isn’t as important, which is why I love this inspiration from Stephanie Sunderland and team, plus 5 things grooms should never forget to do!

1. To Relax

This goes for brides too, of course. But grooms typically have a lot more time on their hands, which makes the wait to say I do feel like forever. Take the time to relax and enjoy your morning with breakfast in bed, brunch with the guys or another chill activity to make those excitable feelings a little more bearable.

2. To Pamper

That’s right, grooms deserve to be pampered, too. Don’t forget to book an appointments necessary to look your best. Treat yourself with a straight shave (if that’s the look you’re going for), a massage, mani/pedi (your bride will thank you), etc.

3. Rehearse Your Vows

Always a good idea… even if you’re repeating vows from your officiant! And especially if you’re going with custom vows. Take the time to really let those words soak in and appreciate what they mean. It’s what this day is all about.

4. Write out a love letter.

Whether it’s a few words in a cute card or a full out letter, make sure to jot something down for your love—something he or she will cherish for years to come.

5. Take a Moment to Reflect

…and don’t forget the last little details! Grab everything you need, including the rings!

From Stephanie SunderlandThis shoot tells the story of the modern groom getting ready on his wedding day. In our story we follow the modern groom as he eats breakfast in bed, writes his vows, spends time with his dog, gets a fresh shave, heads out the door and jumps into a cab to go to the ceremony. I have seen so many styled shoots with a focus on the bride and thought it would be nice to focus on the groom for a change. We also included all the details that our modern groom would have including ring, invitations, pocket watch, shoe horn etc!

Malibu Solstice Vineyard Wedding – The “Dream Wedding” Winners

Last year, Robert Michael Films dreamt up a new approach to wedding films – a series of short stories that focuses on one moment or gives particular insight from a unique narrative or point of view. Called the “Vignette Series,” Robert knew this was an idea that he wanted to share with the world. With a heart for giving back, Robert decided to offer a free wedding film in this style for one deserving couple. The idea blossomed into a full wedding giveaway, and along with Lauren Weidley of Chancey Charm San Diego, Meghan Christine Photography, Flowers by Lady Buggs, Frost It Cakery plus many, many more generous wedding vendors.. a dream-come-true-wedding happened for one very special couple!

The winners were Ivy and Samuel! Gifting this couple their dream wedding — as a thank you for their service to others — was an honor and a privilege for the entire vendor team that came together.

From the Bride… Our love for helping people brings us together and fuels our relationship. As a nurse, I will be able to spend many years of my life taking care of others and serving those in immediate medical need. As a Marine, Samuel will be a part of the United States front lines of defense.”

See the full day unfold through the oh-so-talented lenses of Robert Michael Films!

Read more about this couple and the wedding give-away on Robert’s Blog!!

Ivy and Samuel said “I do” at Malibu Solstice Vineyards on a beautiful October day with breathtaking views overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With 40 of their closest friends and family in attendance, the setting was intimate and romantic – just what this sweet couple envisioned. When planning their wedding with Lauren Weidley of Chancey Charm San Diego, Ivy said, “My dream wedding is just being surrounded by people who love us and just feeling pampered and beautiful!” And that’s exactly what they got!

Ivy and Samuel were even treated with gift certificates from Skin Solutions by Lani for facial and skincare services leading up to their wedding. They were also treated with gift certificates for wedding bands complements of Brian Gavin Diamonds!

Sam wore his dress blues, while Ivy looked stunning in her high-neck lace dress with a beautiful scalloped lace cathedral veil. The bridesmaids wore mix-matched dresses in hues of purple while the groomsmen looked dapper in light grey suits. Ivy envisioned a palette with plenty of neutrals and greenery with pops of purple, so Ultra Violet (Pantone’s Color of the Year) was seen throughout the décor from the florals by Lady Buggs, cake by Frost It Cakery, up-lighting, and paper goods by Papercake Creative. To compliment the vineyard’s already stunning ambiance, Out of the Dust Rentals provided antique wood chairs, wine barrels used for tables and much more. A craft wine and beer cart was provided by Draft in Style Beer and Wine and was the perfect complement to the Famous Taco Truck selections.

Their ceremony was sweetly lead by a close friend and featured the music of guitarist and vocalist, Warren Takahashi, while the reception was rockin’ thanks to Afterburn Productions. Meghan Christine Photography and Robert Michael Films did a wonderful job capturing all the sweet moments and details of the day.

Rustic Romance at Greengate Ranch and Vineyard

This dream of a fall wedding featured creative details with romantic blush and maroon hues. The custom tassel escort display brought ooh’s and ahh’s from everyone while the dazzling lights that lined the backdrop of the dance floor, invited them to party!  Another fan-favorite of the day were the ice cream sandwiches – no wedding cake disappointment here! This Greengate Ranch and Vineyard wedding was a fun-filled day heaping in beauty and love. ~ Jen Rodriguez Photography

More from the couple…

How Did You Meet?
As the cliché goes, we met at a bar… Let’s face it, our generation likes to party. A typical Friday night, two bunches of friends hitting the town… and one VERY special bar – Mr. Lucky’s. Attraction (love?) at first sight. A lot of laughter, a little kissing and phone numbers exchanged. As they say, the rest is history. While it is not necessarily elegant to say we met at bar, there is something special about Mr. Lucky’s and our “How Did You Meet” provides us with a cute, meaningful story to share.

How Did He Pop The Question?
It was the best day of our relationship to date, by far… Both of our schedules are really busy. We were finally able to plan a weekend getaway in October – destination unknown to Jen. After thirty minutes of winding roads and apparent wrong turns, Jen still had no clue where they were going. Finally we reached the Diablo Valley Overlook. We got out and Tim opened the lift gate. He grabbed the ring, dropped down to one knee and Jen said yes!

What Is Your Favorite Wedding Memory?
There are many moments that stand out to us, but one of our favorites is our first look. As everyone can imagine the day of your wedding is nonstop excitement, preparation, celebrations and of course champagne :) As the day was progressing, we were sequestered to our appropriate wings of the house and we were surrounded by our family, friends and bridal party to keep us occupied. Since it was nonstop we did not really have a moment to think about what came next, even though it would be one of the BIGGEST moments of our lives. After many hours of getting ready, taking pictures with our bridesmaids and groomsmen the moment finally came for us to see one another. As we were both anxiously waiting to see each other and share a private moment, the minutes leading up to it was by far one of the most nerve racking moments of our lives. But as soon as we were able to lock eyes on one another and share a simple, yet perfect embrace, we both became instantly relaxed and at ease. We are so thankful that our photographer, Jen Rodriguez, was able to capture all of these moments. Looking back at all the photos and memories – this moment stands out the most and is one that we will always be grateful for.

What Was Your First Dance Song?
Our first dance song was My Best Friend by Tim McGraw. This song was special to both of us for many reasons but mainly because when we first started dating, we danced to this song while having a casual date night at home. It has held a very special place in both our hearts since that moment.

What Advice Do You Have For Couples Currently Planning Their Weddings?
Enjoy every moment! It might seem stressful while you are planning, confirming budgets and tallying costs but keep in mind that you are planning one of the best parties of your life with your closest family and friends.

Also, the biggest piece of advice is to partner with a wedding planner and design team. This was no question the best thing we did. Our team, Lovelyfest (Natalie and Stephanie) did such an amazing job listening to what we wanted and when we viewed their design boards we were blown away with their creativity and ideas to incorporate the small details into the overall concept. Seriously- everyone should partner with Lovelyfest, they are an amazing team!

How Did You Pick Your Wedding Vendor Team?
Luckily our venue, Greengate Ranch and Vineyard, had provided us with a list of preferred vendors and that is how we started the search. Since we live in the San Francisco Bay Area and our venue and vendors were in San Luis Obispo, we had to conduct calls, view websites, yelp reviews and basically every form of research you could imagine.

The first vendor that we selected was Jen Rodriguez for photography. We chose Jen because of all her amazing work and the instant connection that we felt with her. She gave us such a sense of ease and comfort that we knew we could trust her in capturing the candid moments of our day.

When selecting your team you have to go with your gut and intuition on who you will feel comfortable with during the planning phase and the actual day. We really focused on surrounding ourselves with individuals that understood what we wanted to accomplish and had a genuine interest in making our wedding day special, unique and truly amazing!!

10 Things Nasiba Adilova Can’t Live Without

As the mama of a one-year-old and hopes for another babe down the road, today’s Things I Can’t Live Without feature is right up my alley—and I’m sure many of you, too who are expecting, hope to be a mama someday, or are maybe thinking about #2 or 3! Baby gear is constantly evolving and changing, so when I heard we were hosting Nasiba Adilova, Co-founder of The Tot, I couldn’t wait to hear her daily must-haves. Ready?

A little bit about Nasiba… Nasiba Adilova is the Co-founder of The Tot, a premier online destination and storefront for eco-conscious mamas and their children. As a mother of two, Adilova set out to build an online luxury destination that promoted safe, clean, health conscious yet chic products. Adilova created The tot in 2016, after struggling to find trusted advice, eco-friendly, non-toxic product her family all in one stop. Knowing she wasn’t the only mama or mama-to-be in search of the same things, she started The Tot to provide a one-stop- destination for women everywhere seeking not only the best and safest brands for children, but also a place to connect with industry experts and other parents. In addition, her passion for business, entrepreneurial drive and eye for innovative companies has allowed her to invest in a number of the biggest names in style, such as Reformation, Bandier, Violet Grey and Reward Style.

SHOP NASIBA’S MUST-HAVES

Vetro Crib: I absolutely adore the Vetro crib by Nursery Works. I have it in blue and I pretty much styled my son’s nursery around the crib! It’s the first the first 100% recyclable, non-toxic acrylic crib on the market.

Ami Bassinet Rocker: This Ami Bassinet Rocker also by Nursery Works. Once your baby outgrows the bassinet module, an easy drop and tie conversion process transforms the Ami to a double seat rocker. It’s also totally free of flame retardants.

Nook Sleep Systems Pebble Pure Mattress: When choosing a mattress for your tot (or yourself) it’s really important to choose one that’s non-toxic. It’s scary to think that most mattresses contain a whole host of hidden dangers lurking within them like flame retardants and toxic dyes which have been linked to a variety of health problems.I love the Nook Pebble because it’s firm, breathable and made from a certified organic coconut core, natural latex foam and organic wool.

Lovevery Play Gym: This Play gym is everything. Unlike other play gyms that usually only work for about 3-6 months, it has a stage-based play guide to provide a full year of play and activities for parent and baby. It features five development zones that reveal or conceal to prevent over-stimulation, and promote everything from making sounds, learning to focus, hiding and finding, exploring colors and more. It’s also made from FSC sustainably harvested wooden legs and water based non-toxic finishes.

Joolz Geo2 Duo: I LOVE this stroller. It is sleek, functional, comfortable and something I cannot live without. My sons and I love getting out and about and the Joolzlets my toddler sit up high in the upper seat so he can see, while my baby can lie flat comfortably and safely in the lower bassinet.

DockATot: The DockATot Deluxe+ dock is the ultimate docking station for babies aged 0-8 months old. My baby loves to rest, lounge, play, cuddle, do tummy time and get his diaper changed in his. With a unique, non-heat harboring mattress that allows baby to breathe openly and unobstructed, the Dock is a place where you can lay your baby down to sleep that’s free from harmful chemicals and substances – so you can rest easy yourself. Once he outgrows the Deluxe, he will move into his brother’s Grand Dock.

Mary Katrantzou Diaper Bag: It’s seriously the best diaper bag ever. We designed it with mamas in mind. It’s durable, waterproof and will keep everything organized and easy to find. It comes with a changing mat and a pouch and when your kids grow out of the diaper bag phase it turns into a chic travel tote.

1212 and Kyte Baby Clothing: I always recommend two apparel brands to expecting mamas: 1) The Kyte Baby clothing and sleeping range is made with bamboo rayon, a hypoallergenic fabric that’s cooler than cotton, allowing babies’ skin to breathe easier. Their onesies are an absolute must for all new parents! 2) 1212 clothing was created by mamas for their babies who had severe allergies and sensitive skin. I particularly love their organic footed bodysuits. Every detail has lovingly been labored over. Even the snaps are thoughtfully color coordinated where the legs meet, to make middle-of-the-night diaper changes exhausted-parent-proof.

Atelier Choux Cashmere Blankets: I never go anywhere without AC Cashmere Blanket. I even have it when I’m not with my kids! It is the most versatile thing we own because it can be used at nap time, as shade, as a nursing cover, a play mat, a super hero cape and sometimes my scarf! It’s printed with water-based, non-toxic inks and it makes a wonderful baby shower gift.

Lola Hat: You won’t find me at the beach or pool without my Lola hat! Love that they are handmade in New York and are the perfect go-to hat to protect your skin from the strong summer sun when relaxing outside with my littles.

Del Mar Beach Engagement Shoot

From Ana LuiIn January, I travelled from Ibiza to LA to visit my friend Diva Borrelli who happens to be the most talented makeup artist. Because it was my first time in California I had decided to reach out to Amorology, San Diego based wedding and event designers, whom I have been following online for quite a while. Heather, the founder of Amorology, got back to me saying they would love to shoot with me and they kindly connected me with Caroline and Drew who happened to be traveling to Del Mar…

… We connected and decided to photograph a mini engagement shoot on one of the long sandy beaches of Del Mar. It was windy, the sun was strong and the ocean was absolutely freezing. I had such an amazing time photographing these two wonderful souls, we laughed, ran around and enjoyed every minute of the California sunlight! I can’t wait to go back to Cali again this fall!

From Caroline and Drew… During our time in law school in Los Angeles, we spent many weekends visiting family in Del Mar. We fell in love with the beach town’s sleepy charm and it was the perfect escape from the hustle and traffic of Los Angeles. When we thought about our engagement photos, we both immediately pictured the cliffs and beaches of Del Mar. The colors of the cliffs and ocean at sunset are unbeatable and we loved the relaxed, casual feel of the setting. We have a really long engagement (15 months), so we figured we would do our engagement photos at some point towards the second half of the year.

Out of the blue, our wedding planner emailed us about this amazing photographer, Ana Lui, who perfectly matched our style. Only hitch was she was coming to town in three days, so we had to act quickly. We’re so happy that we jumped on it. The day was a total delight. Neither of us had done a photo shoot before and we are so far from being natural models, but Ana and her team made us feel so comfortable from the moment we met them. Since we only had a few days advance notice, we both chose clothes that were comfortable for us and staples in our closet. We’re so happy we did that – we felt that the pictures really captured our true selves. Ana kept the afternoon so relaxed and full of laughter. The day flew by and we can’t stop looking at the final product.
