Fort Worth Love Story With Such A Happy Ending

From Ambra at Query EventsAndrea and Aaron were amazing clients and an even more amazing role models. After Andrea was diagnosed with breast cancer while she and Aaron were first dating, he immediately stepped up to help care for Andrea’s two young children. He played a vital role in her successful recovery and asked her to marry him after the wonderful news came that her cancer was in remission. They share a beautiful love story and I was thrilled when they reached out for help with planning and designing their upcoming wedding.

Andrea came to me with tons of great ideas and an innate sense of style but needed help putting together a cohesive design. One of the most challenging factors was creating the elegant and soft look the bride was after in the very industrial venue our groom fell in love with. In the early stages of planning, I strongly encouraged the couple to utilize as much of the outdoor space as possible. Staying away from the masculine textures of brick, wood and stained concrete which composes the indoor space was crucial to the executing our airy design. Luckily our unpredictable Texas weather held up and the couple’s guest were able to share the beginning of Andrea and Aaron’s marriage under the stars.

An Intimate Vow Renewal at Sunstone Villa

It’s not often that I’m at a loss for words when it comes to putting together a feature. But for this vow renewal, it took me twenty minutes to even start typing (in the best kind of way). It’s so much more than a vow renewal, it’s a work of art. Jen Huang‘s images are sweeping, soft and graceful. Camellia Floral Design crafted a melody of blooms that sing to late summer. Enjoy cupcakes perfected the subtlest blush frosted cake, while the table was woven with Silk & Willow and Plume Calligraphy supplied the loveliest paper goods. And the Bride? She donned Monique Lhuillier with Chiali Meng to make her glow. Did I mention Sunstone Villa served as the setting? I think I covered all my bases here… so much for being at a loss for words. It’s the best kind of way to celebrate love—see it all here.

From Jen HuangBelle and Ivor wanted a special recreation of their wedding day at their vow renewal, with details that reflected their dream wedding, but simplified for two people. They spent the weekend at Sunstone Villa, wandering the vineyard and snuggling in front of the fireplaces. On the last day of their stay, we photographed them in wedding attire reading their vows, and dining in the informal dining room. The beauty of this shoot was heightened by all the details included by wonderful vendors who came together to create the design.

An Elegant French Touch at Villa Balbiano on Lake Como

Dreamy destination wedding shoots are just one of the many things we love about what we see every day  on Style Me Pretty… our imaginations soar to all new heights! The amazing vendors who pull together all the details in the most romantic and do-able ways are our heroes. Today’s romantic wedding inspiration shoot, planned and designed by Sweet Love & Confettis, will take you to the shores of Lake Como, to Villa Balbiano. From there, we’ll let the images from Maddy Christina and film from Stephane M tell the rest of the story!

From Maddy ChristinaThis styled shoot is above all else, a beautiful study in contrasts. We had the honor of being able to organize our shoot at one of the most beautiful locations on Lake Como, the Villa Balbiano. We wanted to create a refined, elegant and soft styled shoot… finding that perfect balance between Italy and the famous “French Touch”.

Our color palette and textural elements contributed to the marriage of the French-Italian experience… brilliant shades of blue-green in the water and surrounding landscape contrasted beautifully with the velvety softness of the linens and stationery. The vibrancy of the fruit and floral design from Emily Alarcan in our tablescape played charmingly against the stone walkways and architectural elegance.  The three-tiered cake from Delicatesse Cake was a masterful combination of modern design and romantic imagination.  Brightly colored wisteria on the property served as the finishing touch for this extraordinary experience.

Our real life newlyweds came from Luxembourg to spend the day with us!

The beautiful stationery suite with hand-lettered calligraphy was designed by Callyane. From the adventures that began the moment our couple launched the Riva Boat trip to reach the famous Villa Balbiano… to the race for the perfect lighting under the harsh yet sometimes powerful Italian sun, it was a day filled with wonderful contrasts from the beginning. The French Touch in Italy from a truly united team!

Enjoy the day in it’s entirety in this short film from Little Black Book cinematographer, Stephane M

A Summer Floral Garden Party Wedding at Marie Gabrielle in Dallas

Summer is probably the only season that just never feels long enough for me. So when it comes to late-August and early-September weddings, I start to miss my favorite season before it’s even gone (not until September 22nd, people). This one from Tracy Enoch and Events by Kristin is totally doing that to me today and I’ll be hanging onto it even when the leaves are underfoot and the snow starts to fall. Love live summer soirees and galleries like this one filled with the sweetest smiles.

From Tracy EnochNicole and KJ first met and dated in high school. KJ knew Nicole’s brother and father through football before meeting her, and although they went their separate ways for a time, they reconnected in college, where KJ played football at SMU. Nicole and KJ’s first decision was to bring Kristin from Events by Kristin on board to plan and design their dream wedding at Marie Gabrielle in Downtown Dallas. Trusting Kristin to bring the right vendors on board, Nicole and KJ married in front of their closest friends and family in an outdoor garden ceremony under a floral arch designed by Something Pretty Floral. Utilizing a soft floral print design palette, Kristin emphasized the surrounding gardens of the venue to create a flawless design. Perhaps one of the highlights of the evening involved KJ’s very special grooms cake. Presented with only a conceptual idea, KJ and Nicole left Heidi from Sugar Bee Sweets to work her magic and present them with a confectionary work of art in a wedding day grand reveal for the Food Networks show Dallas Cakes, which aired on June 18th, 2018.

We Are Officially OBSESSED With This Kitchen Color

We’ve had a long running obsession with any and all things Royale Zieglar creates. She’s not only the head Entertaining Maven at But First, Party but she’s now adding Interior Designer extraordinaire to her long list of credentials. Peek inside her marble and blue-meets-green-meets-grey kitchen captured by Billye Donya. And so you don’t have to scroll, that perfect in every way cabinet color is Benjamin Moore Templeton Grey. It’s good, right?!?!

My absolute favorite part of my kitchen is the countertops. I visited close to ten slab yards to find the perfect marble, which felt a bit like shopping for a wedding gown. It’s like they say, don’t look at what you can’t afford! And, when you find the ONE, you will know.

There was just something so beautiful about the veining and faint gold coloration swirling throughout the stone we chose. Marble really adds a touch of elegance to any kitchen, but with that comes a price, and not just the cost of the stone.

I also really love the cabinet color, the Templeton Grey. It really changes hue with the light. In the morning it is a vibrant blue and after the sun starts to set, a deep green. The rug I found also has a similar coloration, which was perfect.

Lake Como’s Villa del Balbianello is the Definition of Old World Romance

George Clooney isn’t the only great thing about Lake Como. There’s also Villa del Balbianello. It is steeped in old world romance, and insanely stunning views. Now pair that backdrop with the mastery of Kaleb Norman James and O’Malley Photographers, and there’s not a single person on earth who won’t want to high tail it to Italy stat. Get inspired to infuse your wedding day with some Italian romance right here.

From Planner Kaleb Norman James… Lake Como is one of the places where it feels like time somehow, just kind of stopped. Where the character, charm and stories of it’s history remain ever present, waiting to be retold and continued. The richness of these experiences and the remarkable surroundings were the only inspiration needed for this shoot.

The towering green hills and aged orange/yellow tones of the surrounding villas set the mood for our color palette, while the architecture and lush foliage set the tone for the design. Villa Del Balbianello leaves little to be desired, so rather than competing with it, we simply embraced it.

We brought rich embroidery into the linens to mimic the balustrades and doorways of the Villa, and embraced a more traditional, old-world calligraphy for the invitations with old prints and paints of Como throughout.

The Villa’s wisteria trees were at peak bloom and inspired some of the accent tones with the jewelry and detailing in the gowns, while we kept the groom in a simpler look, with neutral tones in the jacket and shoes, pulling in the rich stone work colors throughout.

Post Ranch Inn Wedding in Big Sur – Wedding Planner Turns Bride

From the bride, Callista of Callista & Company….. When your life revolves around weddings, as mine does, it is a challenging task to plan your own in a way that feels distinct from the rest of your beautiful clients’ big days. I will admit, I had to remind myself on more than one occasion that I was indeed… the Bride.

With a background in fashion, I knew my dress would be a very important component of my wedding day. My struggle in being the bride-to-be was instantaneously eased when I walked into the Monique Lhuillier flagship boutique in Los Angeles for the first time after our engagement. I struggled in narrowing down my favorites, but ultimately chose Stella, an allover lace, ivory, cap sleeve sheath.

After a major spinal surgery in high school, I was left with a collection of scars that I embrace, but that I didn’t want to be a focus on the wedding day. The talented team at Monique Lhuillier crafted the covered lace back of the dress and I felt truly comfortable.

With the very scary Sobranes fire seriously threatening the area, we were left watching and waiting in the weeks leading up to our wedding, as we saw the fire creep closer and closer to our venues. Just a week prior to the wedding, the fire was contained enough for Ventana and Post Ranch Inn to reopen, and we could not have felt more fortunate.

My brother, Alexander, could not have been a better Best Man to Jonathan, and I would have been lost without my sister and Maid of Honor, Mary, by my side.

We cannot thank our families enough for their inspiration, encouragement, and support! At my mom and dad’s 30th anniversary party, they were gifted a bottle of champagne from my dad’s best man with a vintage year of their wedding. My dad popped open the bottle during our wedding dinner to share amongst family and friends — such a very special moment!

We chose a redwood tree as our logo due to the striking coastal redwood forests at our wedding destination. The longevity of the redwood tree is a symbol for our marriage standing the test of time. Our redwood logo was carried throughout our stationery, featured on our welcome boxes, on handmade leather coasters, as well as on custom wooden taster boards holding a selection of local craft beers at our welcome reception for each of our guests.

On the dinner table, Heath Ceramics plates sat atop vintage wooden chargers, which were complimented by brushed gold and wood flatware, and elegant gold-rimmed glassware from Casa de Perrin. The dinner centerpieces showcased the dreamiest deep golden mustard roses from Studio Mondine.

One of the reasons why I love being a wedding planner is because I naturally prefer to be behind the scenes, ensuring every detail is perfect, and allowing those around me to shine in the spotlight while I take in the moment from the sidelines. As with all my couples, the personal details were paramount in our planning process. All our stationery was produced on handmade, 100% recycled cotton paper by Silk & Willow, an exceptional and ethical business located in Hudson Valley, New York where both of our families originated.

After all our blessings, we wanted a way to give back, and The Good Beginning registry was the perfect opportunity for us to do so. The Good Beginning allowed us to select a few of our favorite charities, made it simple for our guests to donate, and for us to thank those who so generously contributed to our amazing day!

Last, but certainly not least, we sought out creative partners with warm personalities complementing their talents, and we could not have pulled off any of the above without the most incredible team. Words cannot express our gratitude to Lacie Hansen, Soarking Starkey, Amanda and Ivanka at Studio Mondine, Felipe, Elizabeth, Rachel, Ben & the incredible staff at Post Ranch Inn, Kenney at Fellini Salon, Daniel Tran, Libby & the Casa de Perrin team, Jill & Annie at Copper Willow Paper Studio, Lindsay at La Tavola, Sophia at Ventana, Sharon & Efi at Monique Lhuillier, Elan Artists, Viri & the Chic Event Rentals team, Kimberly & Sara at The Butter End Cakery, Jake at Carmel Valley Honey, Marie-Claude at The Wood Gift Box, Main Event Transportation, Blue Sky Papers, Mary at Tiffany & Co., Duke at Neiman Marcus, Beth & The Good Beginning team, Ted at Legacy Brand Leather, Shellie at Silk & Willow, Cindy at Larkspur Hill, Stephanie at Salt Root Soaps Co., TreasureFox, Edelweiss Post, GubbaGumma, Jenni & Ben Mueller at A Vintage Parcel, and every single other person who went above and beyond to make our wedding such a wonderful success. We are forever grateful.

8 Easy Ways to Keep Your Home Clean (and Pretty!) with Pets

Speaking first hand (as the mama of a sweet pup), keeping a home stylish and clean with pets can be SUCH a challenge. Because for me? The two go hand in hand. After nearly 8 years with our girl Savannah, I think I’ve finally got a good routine figured out to tackle the not-so-pretty that comes with having a pet. Grab the tips below!

Hardwood Helps

If you can afford it (or you are moving into a new house like we did), go for hardwood! Seriously, such a lifesaver when it comes to the ease of vacuuming and getting all that hair up. You can always layer with pretty area rugs for a bit of fun, but I recommend keeping area rugs out of high traffic areas that your pets are using.

Learn to Love Vacuuming

Even still, if you’ve got hardwood?learn to love that vacuum folks. It comes with the territory of being a pet owner (if you want a clean house). We use our heavy duty pet-geared vacuum once a week for a deep cleaning and then supplement in between every 2-3 days with a smaller cordless vacuum that makes the task a little less daunting.

No Paws Allowed

I know it’s hard, I know—they are the best couch snugglers. But I highly suggest setting a no pets on the furniture rule. This really should be established right away, but if you’ve cracked at times (everyone needs a good fur baby snuggling on the couch every now and then), all hope is not lost. First things first, make sure you’ve got designated pet beds or areas just for them. Try our No-Sew DIY Pet Bed! I also LOVE this stylish striped one from Fresh American.

Avoid Meal Time Mess

Meal time doesn’t have to mean clanky metal bowls and slobbery messes on the floor. We traded our classic metal dishes that you find at a pet store for simple large white ceramic metal dishes. They won’t rust and they just look a whole lot better. Place on a pretty, durable place mat if your pet is slobber-prone, and if you’re finding things are still a mess?try bigger bowls to contain everything.

Home Grooming Station

Depending on your lifestyle and the activities you enjoy on a regular basis, you might find it helpful to have a pet grooming area. The laundry room is always a great area for this if you’ve got the space! Our pup doesn’t get too messy, so we don’t have a designated pet shower, but when we bring her to the beach a lot during the warmer months we make sure to rinse and dry her off pretty good before letting her back into the house.

Professional Grooming Routine

If you don’t currently groom your pet on a regular basis, start! It makes SUCH a difference with the hair. We thought we could bathe and groom our dog on our own in the beginning but after bringing her to a professional groomer for the first time, we never looked back. We usually try to bring our pup every 4-6 weeks depending on the time of year. Your pet might need more or less depending on their coat, but I swear it really is life changing when it comes to hair control, and keeps them smelling so fresh all the time.

A Space of their Own

I mentioned giving your pet their own bed or designated area, but if you have the space, dedicate a room for your pets when you need to keep them while you’re out of the house. Tiled rooms are great for this! If our pup is being naughty or super rambunctious we put her in our tiled sun room that we can close off with pocket doors. Also great for when we’re vacuuming and want her out of the way, entertaining friends and family or, if you’ve got babies in the house.

Tidy Toys

Toy baskets are a must have! Get something stylish that ties into the vibe of your home and fill it with stylish toys too, of course. Our pup does NOT mix well with cotton stuffed toys, so we have durable rope toys and antler pieces which are her absolute fave.

The Venue at Waterstone Wedding ~ Rustic Elegance At It’s Best

Heather and Karson came to me from Lubbock, Texas to plan their “destination” wedding in the Dallas area. From the moment we began our discussions I knew Heather and I would be the perfect pair! When we started focusing on design, we quickly discovered a shared love of the color pink. We played with all shades — from the palest of pinks to the darkest fuchsia and then added pops of dusty blue. The outcome was sensational and the perfect way to soften the barn at The Venue At Waterstone…. from Query Events with photography by Lauren Peele.

More from Query Events…. Sadly, Heather’s mother passed away several years back so we started working on the perfect details to include her mother’s memory. We placed a photo of Heather’s mother on her wedding day and laid a floral crown composed of pink carnations, her favorite flower next to it. Knowing that carnations were so important to Heather’s memory of her mother, we incorporated mini spray versions of the bloom in each arrangement throughout the reception space. Every detail from the centerpieces to memorial video played during toasts brought the essence of her beloved mother into the room.

This couple was amazing to work with and together, we compiled an all-star team of wedding vendors. Lauren Peele Photography, a Dallas based fine art film photographer, captured each image to perfection. What an amazing day with two wonderful families!

From Eddye at SMP…. There are always those amazing moments that come forward when we watch the films that recap the celebration of your oh-so-special wedding days! Today, we have one of those for you! From Adam Grumbo Films, listen to the words captured in a few short sentences – words from the bride’s Daddy – words that will stick with her for a lifetime!  Words that she will cherish forever and ever…. amen!! Turn the volume up and enjoy!!

The Must Haves for Crafting Easy Dinners At Home

From blogger Cara Fries… If you ask me, there is no better time than gathering around for family dinners.  When I was younger, my family would eat dinner together every single night during the week, so as an (almost) newlywed, I want to make sure to carry on that tradition with my own family. For easy and fun at-home dinners, here are the Cuisinart products I recommend!

Whether you’re already married or starting to create a registry, finding the right products for family dinner traditions is key. These will be tools you will use for years on end and will help to always make those family dinners one to remember.

Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven My fiancé and I are huge foodies, so we like to start with some kind of appetizer before every meal, because, well, the more food the better! The Air Fryer Toaster Oven by Cuisinart is the perfect gadget to do so.  You can make everything from chicken wings (our favorite!) to homemade mozzarella sticks and pizza. Air frying, which uses powerful ultra-hot air, is a healthier way to prepare delicious fried favorites without all the calories and messy cleanup. Tasty food and better for you?! It’s a win-win!

Cuisinart Elemental 13 Cup Food Processor with Dicing Another kitchen gadget that I can’t live without is a food processor.  The Cuisinart 13 Cup Food Processor is perfect for large families or for making party food!  I was shocked to see how much actually fit in this food processor when making pesto for my pesto shrimp! If it’s just the two of you, there is even an inner nested work bowl to make 4 cups instead of 13… The perfect amount for us.  My fiance isn’t a big cooker, he tends to prefer the grill and the grill only, but even he commented on how easy and seamless the food processor was to use!

Cuisinart 12 Piece Multiclad Pro Triple-Ply Stainless Cookware Set Cuisinart has included everything you need in this 12-piece set to perfectly perform all the basic cooking tasks, large or small. From reheating a single portion of soup to preparing appetizers, entrees and side dishes for the entire family, you’ll find every tool you need in this deluxe set.  I am a sucker when it comes to a good set of pots and pans (grown-up problems!) so when I first put these to use, I was instantly hooked.  With 12 pieces, you’ll never run out of options for family mealtime.

Cuisinart Fruit Scoop As an avid sweets lover, this has got to be my favorite one yet.  With the fully automatic Cuisinart Fruit Scoop, you can make healthy frozen desserts from just 100% fresh fruit or ice cream in just 25 minutes!  We made some mint chip ice cream using all natural fresh ingredients and I have to say- it was 10x better than the store-bought kind.  We both really love how easy this is to use, and would be such a fun activity to do with kids after dinner or on the weekend!

TACO Bout the Best Surprise Birthday Theme Ever

I am deeming every birthday from here on out a Taco Party. Because A.) Tacos are the best food group and B.) I dare you to find a better shindig than this pretty celebration crafted by Palm Beach Lately. In a mere 72 hours, no less! Catch all the cactus and tequila infused party details captured by Shea Christine right here.

Earlier this summer, we shared our “Summer Lately” Bucket List that included enjoying lobster rolls on Nantucket, playing tennis and climbing the Jupiter Lighthouse. Celebrating Danielle’s Birthday was on the list and it was quickly approaching without any plans! My idea snowballed and I decided to plan a “Taco Bout A Party” Birthday Surprise in less than 72 hours ha!

I’ve been wanting to do something in Coyo Taco’s back room at The Royal Poinciana Plaza for months and thought it could be the perfect place to invite some friends to celebrate! The stars aligned and 30 of our closest friends rounded up babysitters or their husbands were kind enough to offer to stay home so they could celebrate with Danielle!

Our friend Jamie from Southern Belle’s Cakery whipped up this adorable cake and cactus cake pops! Lovely Little Party, made these adorable “Yeah, It’s Spiked” tags and I got cactus plants and spray painted mini clay pots.

Coyo Taco passed around the most delicious assortment of tacos along with guacamole, salsa, chips and their signature margaritas!

Amore Eterno – Romantic Inspiration at Newington House

Amore Eterno is an editorial shoot conceived to re-tell the history of one of Oxfordshire’s most beautiful stately homes, Newington House. Newington House’s story is impossibly romantic. Newington House hosts a small number of exclusive weddings each year allowing guests to have full use of the gardens and some of the beautiful spaces inside the house itself…. ~ Kim Balasubramaniam Wedding Design + Zosia Zacharia Photography

Newington House was built in the 17th Century as a gift for a homesick Italian princess by her British husband. The design was based on Reuben’s collection of engravings called “The Palaces of Genoa” and is therefore Italianate in design, and has been brought back to life by the current owners. Our editorial re-tells this story for the modern wedding. A tale of a young couple who met traveling Europe. She is Italian, he British and they have chosen to celebrate their marriage at this countryside estate.

Our bride was dressed in a Jesus Peiro gown which featured a lace bodice, long sleeves and pockets! A classic ballgown skirt, which fitted such an incredible venue was complimented by a bouquet of peonies, jasmine and my favourite Margaret Merril roses – so fragrant and so beautiful. Bespoke heirloom jewelery, imagined to be borrowed from the groom’s family collection, set off the ivory tones of the gown and featured deep burgundy and diamond stones. A pair of black lace Jimmy Choo heels completed her bridal look. The groom, effortlessly handsome in his dinner suit featured black patent shoes and a silk bow tie.

Inspired by the venue’s incredible gardens and interiors we chose a colour palette of dark blush pink, blackberry, gold and ebony which set the tone for this understatedly elegant look.

Our tablescape, set on the lush lawns at the back of the house had a backdrop of the stone steps and featured gold and black baroque charger plates, hand dyed silk bamboo napkins and wildly beautiful flowers including prunus foliage, peonies, sweet peas, astrantia and romantic antique roses. Cut glass stemware, gold rimmed flatware and cutlery added to the glamorous feel and a sprinkling of blackberries foraged from the gardens finished it to perfection.

The stationery was simple but oh so stylish. Classic black on which the white ink really popped. An olive leaf detail, wax seals and beautiful hand dyed silk ribbons complemented the suite. Hand written signage and tags adorned every element.

The wedding cake featured frangipani and delicate peonies both crafted expertly from sugarpaste. It nestled beautifully within the rose garden at Newington House. Each tier more delicious than the next – flavours included earl grey, lavender and honey, chocolate with rosemary and red-wine poached pear and lemon, blueberry & cream cheese.

At each place setting sat a gold leaf edged cotton pouch containing golden sugared almonds – a nod to the traditional Italian bonbonniere. These were finished with sugar frangipani flowers and hand lettered placement cards.

The staircase, mezzanine dressing room and antique furniture provided the perfect setting for the bridal preparations and is the most incredible light filled space. The staircase was bedecked with fragrant florals including roses, peonies, jasmine and beech foliage. Guests were greeted at the door with home made blackberry liqueur in miniature bottles, next to a giant stone urn containing beautiful blooms including hornbeam, olive, roses, peonies and ivy. A welcome basket containing almonds, chocolates and limoncello was given to each guest as they arrived.

The grounds are expansive and feature a small church, lake and views to die for over the Oxfordshire countryside. It is a very special venue and we were honoured to have been allowed to create this editorial there and tell the story of a unique piece of English history in our own way.

SO much more to see in the full gallery!!!

Cincinnati’s Cooper Creek Ballroom is Layered in All Out Glam

Tucked inside this ballroom wedding is a day filled with gold and glamour. (Two of our favorite things) There are sparkles, there are elegant, modern details and a neutral color palette that shines so, so bright. Just add in a ridiculously beautiful couple and a team of vendors including Exquisite Events by AmaneeBlossoms, and Megan Noll Photography, and the result is pure ballroom magic.

From the bride… Matt and I met on Tinder and went on our first date a week after we started chatting online. We met at Righteous Room for drinks and ended up having a 6 hour conversation over Jameson (his favorite liquor) and cosmopolitans (at the time my favorite cocktail). We celebrate our anniversary from our first date that night (February 5, 2014); mainly because the lines are a little blurred as to when we were “official” (when you fall in love who’s tracking ;-)). Matt and I love movie nights, cooking dinner for each other, going out for date nights in the city, and traveling! Because he lived in Italy for a year, that “forced” us to take several international trips between 2015-2016 while our relationship was long distance and discovered that seeing the world together was one of our favorite things to do. Together, he and I have been to Rome, Milan, Florence, Cinque Terre, Venice, Paris, Nice, Budapest, Barcelona, Lisbon, Sintra, and in the US San Fran, Napa, Miami, Chicago. We have many more to cross off our bucket list (and hopefully Fiji, Bora Bora, or Maldives for our honeymoon). Of course, jet setting can’t always fit into our budget or schedules so we make sure to try different activities together whether its seeing a play, the ballet, going out for dinner/drinks in Cincinnati, or just hanging out with friends. We’ve also started to make a habit of collecting wine from either our trips or important dates, and saving a bottle for special events/moments. For example, the day we booked our venue, we cracked open a bottle from a trip to Napa. A year after our trip to Florence, Matt made me an Italian dinner at home and we cracked open a bottle from Tuscany. Obviously we can’t wait to get into a special bottle on June 2, 2018 to commemorate the biggest day for us yet

Matt proposed on November 11, 2016 in Ault Park in Cincinnati. Two weeks prior we had traveled to San Francisco and Napa as a celebration trip (I was ending a 3 month period of consistent travel for work in San Fran so we decided to extend my stay and Matt joined to celebrate the end), during which Matt had originally hoped to propose. Unfortunately his attempts to contact my father via phone to ask for my hand in marriage were unsuccessful, so despite packing the ring with him to California, he decided not to go through with proposing having not heard back from my father. I had kinda been expecting it to happen in San Fran or Napa, so needless to say, I was a little bummed. Fast forward two weeks later, after which the election had happened, another random work trip had popped up, so I was super stressed/distracted so Matt proposing was the furthest from my mind. He asked if we could take a half day that Friday and go to lunch since I had been in such a bad mood that week and he thought that would cheer me up. After lunch (at Mazunte, did I mention before we LOVE tacos/Mexican food), he asked me if I’d like to go for a walk in Ault Park. At first I was hesitant because even though it was sunny, I felt a little cold; however, he then convinced me by saying that since I looked so nice we could take pictures in the park for my Instagram (note: Jen loves randomly posing for photos and posting on the gram; yes Matt is a future #instahusband). Needless to say I was sold, and after walking through the park for awhile, we stopped under an archway and he said this was a good place to pose. So after snapping a few of me, he told me to turn around and look off in the distance so he can get something a little more “artistic” (to a normal person this sounds ridiculous, but had anyone traveled through Europe with us, they would understand that this is what a good portion of our trip looked like). When I turned around after he said he got a “really good photo” he was on one knee with the ring in hand. All I could do was laugh because in that moment all I could think was “I thought we were taking photos for the ‘gram!) Of course I said yes, and 30 seconds later his younger sister (the only person he had told he was proposing) popped out of the bushes with a camera in hand; he had her poised to be his secret photographer. We spent the rest of the day drinking a special bottle of Prossecco we had saved, sharing the news with our closest family and friends, then went out that night to celebrate more!

San Francisco City Hall Wedding with a Modern Flair

Lisa and Jonathan met one fateful night while they were enjoying drinks at Lusk 25 in the heart of San Francisco. From that moment on, they knew they belonged together. They wanted to treat their friends and family to an elegant, black tie evening celebrating their marriage without the typical events and detailing that would make a wedding feel typical…. ~ Charmed Events Group

It was important to them that the day was modern and minimal in design but also in programming as well. Because of their love for modern minimal design, we created their aesthetic by using foliage, greenery and acrylics paired with cool greys and taupe tones to create their desired atmosphere.

For their ceremony, Tango and Foxtrot helped us create a modern foliage display for them to say their vows against. I personally loved this modern and whimsical creation because it was so different from what is usually asked for in a ceremony design. They didn’t have a wedding party to keep things simple and the effect was a beautiful focus on just the two of them.

For the reception, we wanted the space to feel fresh and different and put together lots of tall foliage trees paired with fresh white blooms and greens to create a modern take on City Hall. I loved the juxtaposition that was created in that traditional space with our modern design. Detail notes of the day were the acrylic signs that guests found their seats to as well as vellum menus with guest names adhered to them by a modern black clip.

Guests enjoyed the couple’s favorite desserts from San Francisco and post reception, retreated upstairs to a bar space that we created to emulate Lusk 25, which is the bar where they fell in love.

This Modern Home Finds a Sweet Balance Between Pretty and Practical

We all want our home to look design savvy but when it comes to real life, things like budget or kids often trump all those dream home wishes. Now enter Rachel Madden. She designed this Marin abode with modern sensibilities but practical enough for a family with a brigade of boys and their sports equipment. Take the full tour captured by David Livingston below!

This home was tailored to the lifestyle of a family with 3 young boys, while reflecting mom’s love of bright, modern spaces. We were challenged to combine Mom’s love of light and airy with something practical that could withstand the wrath of 3 boys and all their soccer gear.

We were also challenged to create something gender neutral – something pleasing to Mom but also pleasing to the boys who outnumbered her. We managed to accomplish all our goals with this project and create a home that was both light and airy, as well as practical and durable.

In the living room, we chose a high pile, neutral wool rug with color variation to hide crumbs and dirt. We chose a round coffee table which is always the best option with young kids in the house, and designed the seating surrounding the fireplace and TV and open to the retractable doors.

For practicality in the dining/kitchen, we chose a sealed dining table, plastic chairs, a bench for lots of tushies, an uncovered floor for easy sweeping, and a Sunbrella fabric on the counter stools. Although we used light materials, we made sure they were durable at the same time.

Bootjack Farm is the Perfect Spot for a Mountain-Garden Wedding

I remember when the Style Me Pretty book came out… I had just gotten hired. That was nearly six years ago! I loved how the book was broken up into styles—inspiration for every kind of couple. And today, we still celebrate those styles. But my favorite thing ever is when weddings combine those styles in a unique and unexpected way (something we look for in submissions all. the. time.) Today’s fete from Orange Photographie and Greenwood Events does just that and SO well. It’s mountain love with garden gorgeousness, all layered with the most elegant touches at Bootjack Farm. Take a virtual walk through, I think you’ll fall just as hard as I did!

From Orange Photographie… Lauren and Scott and their families and friends traveled from all over the country to celebrate in Big Sky country. And while Montana is usually known for its mountain scenery, this wedding also took advantage of the other stunning landscapes found here, including seemingly endless forest and the beautiful gardens cultivated at Bootjack Farm, a new venue in Whitefish, Montana. Lauren worked with the design and floral geniuses of Greenwood Events to produce an elegant garden party feel. Cascading florals and greenery adorned the ceremony arch, and the atmosphere of an English garden was mimicked on each reception table. Another favorite detail were the individually calligraphed name cards wrapped around each napkin created by Jessica Lee Calligraphy. Lauren looked gorgeous in a chic and classic Oscar de la Renta gown and Valentino heels, adding glamor to the garden soiree.

Bonnet Island Estate Boho Beach Wedding

When a professional football player married a bohemian beauty by the coast in New Jersey, it was certain that the day would be special… Kristen & Gerrard’s love was effortless! On their wedding day, Kristen was a vision in her Watters gown and her eucalyptus crown. With clean whites, cool blue tones and nautical details, the day was overflowing with beachy vibes. K&G’s truest smiles and tear-jerking vows made this day one of our all time favorites. We can still feel the love! ~ love & light photographs

From the Bride… Our story began 5 years prior to our dreamy wedding day down on Long Beach Island, our favorite place that houses some of our most precious memories. We met our final semester of college and hit it off from the start. Gerrard has always been the charming one from day one and his smile and laugh is my absolute favorite.

We absolutely fell in love with Bonnet Island Estate after visiting and knew it would be the perfect place
to celebrate our big day. Bonnet fit the beachy and rustic vibe we were looking for with plenty of space to make it creative in our own way. We chose a neutral color palette of light grey, white and navy with lots of greenery and white roses throughout. Wooden signs and favorites from New Jersey and Maryland complimented our day throughout many of our details.

Having both been athletes, and most of our party being athletes as well, we of course had to make our grand entrance first as Mr. & Mrs. with a football scene. We are both big sneaker heads also, so naturally as soon as we could, we traded in heels and dress shoes for our high top vans. Let’s just say our wedding parties were happy to join along with us and made the dance floor even more fun.

Our photographer, Jessa Schifilliti, captured the day perfectly with her team! We knew we were in the best hands and after talking through our vision, we let them take the wheel and do what they are best in the world at – capturing every moment of couples big days while keeping it stress free. There was so much love and laughter on our wedding day, and each photo radiates with the love and excitement we felt. She captured the dreaminess of the venue, every thoughtful detail and so many special
moments that we continuously look back on and will cherish for the rest of our lives.

Brunch Done Right with Cuisinart

What is the very first thing you did when you got engaged? Try on dresses? Book your venue? Instagram the news? Want to know what I did. I registered. For all of the amazing kitchen-ness I had always dreamed of. Because the thought of stocking my apartment with a stand mixer and a blender and a giant food processor was basically most people’s equivalent of winning the lottery. And while I’m not going to say this is a normal feeling, I am going to say that maybe it was the making of Style Me Pretty before I even knew that Style Me Pretty was a thing. So, in case you don’t get the same thrill that I got when it comes to stocking your newlywed kitchen, I’m here today to convince you otherwise. We’ve hosted the sweetest brunch you’ve ever seen using EXCLUSIVELY Cuisinart products that you, my dear, can put on that little registry of yours.

So before we dive into the food, let’s talk table. We partnered up with FiftyFlowers to create a pretty easy and (if I’m being the opposite of humble) stunning table. We let the pink peonies set the tone then sprinkled in roses in varying shades of peach.

While I love a good floral arrangement, I wanted to keep things speedy and simple with this centerpiece. I found a bunch of old food cans and I printed out vintage advertisements (that I literally found on google) in our color palette. I wrapped the cans using tape to secure. The result was totally adorable and ragingly easy.

The thing with brunch is this. If it’s too fancy, people won’t relax. If it’s not fancy enough, people don’t understand the time that it took to put something like this together and it just doesn’t feel as special. So for me, I always wear jeans, I always cook barefoot, I always set my table the night before and save small jobs for people to help me with on the day of. And I ALWAYS create pretty little “moments” around the house that people can revel in. You’ll see what I mean next.

A SMOOTHIE BAR

Moment number one and the star of the day. Although if I’m being honest, it’s the Cuisinart Hurricane Pro Blender that was the star. I just supplied the back-up singers. I’ve actually decided to ditch my Ninja after using this blender. Which says a lot. It’s crazy powerful (3.5 peak HP), it literally has a memory function and you can make anything using their presets from soup to smoothies

Here’s what you need for a good Smoothie Bar:

Vanilla Yogurt * Lots of Fruit Fixins * Healthy Additions like Flax, Chia & Walnuts * Juice (we used orange and mango) * Glasses * Straws * Spoons

Make sure that you set it up near a sink so that your guests (or you) can rinse the blender between batches. And encourage your guests to start with the yogurt & juice, then add fruit, then add the healthy fixins. This enables the blender to mix really easily and blend every smoothie beautifully.

A COFFEE BAR

Y’all. I can’t even tell you how obsessed I am with this Cuisinart Coffee Center. It has the best of both worlds all wrapped up into one pretty machine. One side is an auto drip and the other is single cup. So all of those decaf lovers can have their cake without ruining ours. It’s genius. And we set up a little coffee station to highlight the personalization capabilities of this pretty machine. A variety of mixins included Bailey’s, Cream, Caramel & Chocolate. Then we also had cinnamon sticks, chocolate melts, whipped cream and good old fashioned sugar.

WATERMELON SORBET COCKTAILS

Okay, I know I sound like an ad for Cuisinart (oh wait, this is an ad for Cuisinart) but I’m serious when I tell you that you are going to quickly become obsessed with this little frozen yogurt-sorbet and ice cream maker. After freezing the bowl overnight, I literally threw in a bunch of room temperature watermelon – and NOTHING ELSE – and turned this baby on. It pureed the watermelon into a gorgeous frozen treat that was worthy of it’s own cocktail.

The cocktail part? I added some sparkling pink wine and voila. Dunzo. It was the most beautifully refreshing, delicious cocktail I’ve ever had, perfect for impressing on a hot Summer Day.

WARM DONUTS

I know I keep blowing your mind with all of this Cuisinart creativity. I blew my own mind too. But this is really going to send you over the edge. Of all the Cuisinart products that we used, the Air Fryer (which doubles as a Toaster and Convection Oven) was my overall fave. It’s awesome. And it was the perfect way to serve up the EASIEST and most epically good warm donuts you’ve ever had.

All you need is Biscuit Dough, Butter and Powdered Sugar. Punch a hole in each biscuit, pop them into the air fryer for 2-3 minutes on each side, then drench in butter and coat with powdered sugar. Tastes like the perfect beignet from Cafe du Monde. And I take donuts very seriously. I wouldn’t kid you about this.

HASHBROWN NESTS WITH AN OVER EASY EGG

If there is one appliance that will save you an infinite amount of time in the kitchen so that you can kick back and hang with your friends, it’s the Cuisinart Elemental Food Processor. Aside from the fact that it has a huge work bowl so you can really get in there with larger recipes, it also has every attachment known to man so you can slice, dice, shred, spiralize to your heart’s content. And these little hashbrown nests were the perfect way to really put this processor to work.

3 Russet Potatoes (peeled), 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar, 1/2 cup shredded creamy fontina, 1/2 onion, 4 TBS butter, 6 eggs, 2 green onions (green party only) 1.5 tsp salt & 1/2 tsp pepper + extra of each to taste. 6 prepared ramekins

Using your trusty Food Processor, shred the potatoes, cheddar and fontina. Dice the onion. Squeeze the excess water out of the potatoes and the onion. Mix all together in a bowl with salt & pepper. Place enough potato mixture into your prepared ramekins to fill 3/4 of the dish, taking care to press the potatoes down. Bake at 350 in your toaster oven for about 15-18 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Crack an egg on top of each and sprinkle with salt & pepper. Place back in the oven for 3-10 minutes depending on how well done you like your egg. I like mine runny so it was only a 3 minute process. Sprinkle with green onions.

*We used ramekins that fit about 3/4 of a cup of potato/cheese mixture. You can also use muffin tins or smaller ramekins. If you do, your potato quantity might be more/less. If you have left over potato mixture, you can freeze and use for future nests!

CREAM CHEESE & LOX BAGEL PIZZA

prepared pizza dough, 1/2 cup cream cheese, 1/2 cup sour cream, 4 ounces smoked salmon, 1/4 cup sliced red onion, 3 TBS capers, 2 green onions, sliced (green party only), everything but the bagel seasoning to taste, pam/oil for preparing pan

Easiest brunch dish EVER. Seriously. Spritz your Toaster Oven sheet pan with a little pam or brush with olive oil. Roll out the pizza dough (we used Trader Joe’s brand) to fit the toaster oven pan. Toast at 350 for about 15 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from oven and let cool entirely.

While your dough is cooling, mix the cream cheese and sour cream together. Slice your smoked salmon if need be. Use your Cuisinart Food Processor to slice your red onion. Once dough is cooled, slather with the cream cheese mixture. Then layer on salmon, sliced red onion, capers, green onion and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning.

MADE TO ORDER BABY PANCAKES

This griddle is GEN.IUS. It’s obviously a really nice sized griddle but it also moonlights as an indoor grill and panini press plus it has optional waffle plates available for purchase too. These designers at Cuisinart aren’t playing around with this one. We used it for the obvious … silver dollar pancakes, made to order. To serve, we popped a little pad of butter on top and puddled some syrup underneath. YUM. But to me, a pancake isn’t a pancake without a side of bacon.

Lay your bacon on a foil covered sheet pan and sprinkle with some brown sugar. Bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes until all crispy and delicious.

And that, my friends, is called brunch. With appliances that make the entire experience ridiculously easy. And you are at the one point in your life where you don’t actually have to buy them yourself! So when you are revving up that registry, just think of me over here at Style Me Pretty and all of the goodness that we whipped together using exclusively Cuisinart appliances and you’ll know that you are doing the right thing. Then make sure to send me an invitation when you decide to host your own Sunday done right brunch.
