Inspired by the Elegance of a Totally Neutral Color Palette

If you had any doubt that a neutral color palette could be downright gorgeous, skip this intro and head right to the imagery captured by Luna de Mare. Beauty is in the details and the layered texture and the elegance of this inspiration shoot crafted by Natalie Choi Events, Plenty of Petals and Julie Ha. And it makes a stunning case for a sea of monochromatic decor.

From Luna de Mare… Drawing inspiration from the neutral tones of Earth (Terre), buttery creams and sand colored hues were infused into almost every detail of the Monotone inspired Bridal. We kept the palette simple, soothing and pleasing to the eye, using textures and soft shades to compliment one another.

The florals in the bouquet and centerpiece were organic in style, with white lilies, garden roses, bunny tails and feathers allowing movement and fluidity that paired with our Bride’s Floral Appliqué Marchesa gown, and our Liz Martinez deep-V gown from Kinsley James Couture.

To add a bit of modern flair, our Bride wore her hair in a chic chignon with minimal makeup and a pop of color on her lips. Topping off our Bridal look, each look was paired Kendra Scott natural stone earrings lending itself to an air of sophistication yet playful youthfulness.

A Big Top Inspired Luxury Celebration Charleston’s Gaillard Center

The magic that happens when Event Designer, Tara Guerard, and Photographer, Liz Banfield, work alongside one another…is palpable. And this Charleston wedding that brought the crazy talented pair together is probably one of the most absurdly beautiful, wildly fun weddings we’ve ever seen. Set against a charming Southern backdrop, with details rooted in tradition and all out luxury, then graced with the whimsy of a Big Top Tent – we’re talking aerialists, drag queens and a high school marching band!?!? – it’s one of those affairs that you only wish you could have seen in person. Not to fret, ladies. We’ve got the next best thing. Read on!

We’re so excited to share with you a formal Charleston wedding designed by famed wedding planner – and dear friend of Abby & Tait, Tara Guerard of Tara Guerard Soiree. The stylistic goal was to capture the charm of the South, the sparkle of the couple’s international travel and the whimsy of the big top circus to a wedding reception.

Every last detail was tended to, ensuring that the couple could relax into the moment knowing that their guests were doted upon from the moment the arrive – like this stunning champagne tower filled with a perfect glass of something cold, luxurious and entirely celebratory.

Held in the newly renovated Gaillard Center in the heart of downtown, the ceremony was held in the lobby then the couple and their guests celebrated with the party of all parties. As guests entered the ceremony, Tara featured a garland chuppa.

While the decor alone was enough to wow, the entertainment was OFF. THE. CHARTS. Starting with a high school marching band serenade…

the crowd was dazzled by aerial artists twirling above the bar followed by a magician and drag queen performance to close out the evening.

The decor was kept chic and simple while the ceiling was draped with fabric and architectural garland. The greenery wrapped chandeliers felt whimsical and yet classic at the same time and provided a pretty incredible juxtaposition to the aerial dancers.

While the ceiling was grand and dramatic, the centerpieces, linens and rentals were kept simple and Southern. Full of charm and approachability while still rooted in all out luxury.

Inspired by their love of travel and international food, they explored various cuisines from hand-rolled sushi to chicken tikka masala.

Tara and her team used lanterns throughout to cast a soft glow inside the large ballroom that transitioned from dinner to dancing in the most spectacular way. And the highlight of the night…

…was the STUNNING Drag Queen show and dancing that followed. It was a magical night that will most definitely be remembered by guests and the couple alike.

Later that evening, the bride changed into a flirty and fabulous Little White Dress and guests wished them love with a sparkler exit amidst the gorgeous Charleston backdrop.

Incorporating Different Cultures in a Meaningful Way on Your Wedding Day

When wedding planning commences, couples are often faced with the task of blending different backgrounds and traditions into one gorgeous wedding day. No pressure! If you are looking for a way to honor different cultures in a meaningful way, look no further than this stunning inspiration crafted by fleurie, with planning by Sage Event Planning and the prettiest of images photographed by Katrina Kim. Together these vendors are showcasing elegant and beautiful ways to incorporate Korean traditions into your modern Western wedding. Plus, even more right here!

Calling all lovers of heritage, tradition, and culture! When your roots are so fully embedded in identifying with more than one culture, how can you honor both? Wedding planning often starts with this critical question: What is important to me, and how can I incorporate that in a meaningful way on my wedding day? This styled shoot was inspired by our community’s growing interest in diversity and culture.

Two cultures married together by the impeccable styling of fleurie–the first, a modern and clean white gown and tux, and the second, traditional Korean hanbok. Set at a small church located in Pasadena, CA appropriately named, “Light of Love”, it serves as a courtyard backdrop to sophisticated stationery by Ettie Kim Studio, beautiful hanbok and details by Bidan Hyang, and even a wedding cake made of traditional Korean rice cake by Rice Blossoms.

Traditional Korean weddings can be traced so far back into history that it’s difficult to pinpoint and classify exactly what constitutes a “typical” or “traditional” Korean wedding. Historically, ceremonies varied based on social class and this often dictated things like wardrobe, jewelry, and gift giving. So, let’s consider the modern 21st century couple looking to integrate Korea and Western tradition—what are examples of Korean wedding culture that can pay a respectful nod to tradition while translating elegantly and seamlessly to a western wedding? We’re sharing some key examples below…

Traditional Korean Outfits(Hanbok): Wearing a hanbok is an exceptional way to embrace and honor Korean tradition. Eighty years ago, wearing a hanbok in Korea was in complete decorum. Neutral in color and made out of cotton or hemp, the ordinary day-to-day hanbok was the traditional wardrobe of everyday Korean men, women, and children. Historically, Koreans from various regions of the country and social class set aside more ornate and colorful hanbok for special occasions including family celebrations, weddings, and Korean Thanksgiving. This custom has gracefully stood the test of time and continues to be a symbol of celebration to this day. Hanbok for both women and men come primarily in two parts: the skirt and top for women and the trousers with a jacket or robe for men. Hanbok designers today offer a variety of both modern and traditional styles that can be made all your own by mixing and matching different colors, materials, cuts, and designs. If you’re looking for a great rehearsal dinner outfit or reception wardrobe change, perhaps consider wearing a beautiful and luxuriant hanbok tailored to your particular taste!

Colorful Tassels(Norigae): Norigae is a traditional hanging tassel accessory that is tied to the top or skirt of a hanbok. Norigae can either be passed down or gifted by parents and can be one of the most meaningful and personalized items worn. The meaning and personalization of norigae can be determined by color, stones/material, animal depictions, or shapes inspired by nature. The possibilities are truly endless. If wearing a norigae yourself is not something you had planned, perhaps you could flip the tradition and gift one to your parents or future in-laws. This could be an especially sweet gesture if either mom or future mother-in-law will be wearing a hanbok to the wedding.

Hair Stick Accessory(Binyeo): A binyeo is worn in a woman’s hair to hold the hair up in a bun. Historically, when women had their hair up in a bun it symbolized that she was a married woman. Conversely, unmarried women wore their hair at a low ponytail braided to the ends with a ribbon tied at the very end. A bineyo is customarily worn horizontally through a bun and can come in a variety of colors and designs. Pick the one that is best suited to your taste and wear it with pride—you’re a married woman now!

Rice Cake(Dduk/Tteokk): Steamed rice cake, otherwise known as dduk/tteokk is customarily served on celebratory occasions such as New Years Day, weddings, and birthdays. Today, Korean traditional rice cakes made for celebrations are usually slightly sweet and colorful(usually pastel in color). They would make great additions to the dessert table or wrapped and placed on each place setting as a small guest gift during the reception.

Bronzeware for Dinnerware & Utensils(Yoogi): Bronze flatware is very chic and elegant currently in the wedding world, but surprisingly bronze tabletops and utensils have been a part of Korean tradition for centuries. Originally utilized by Korean royalty, yoogi had a range of advantages and over time has become available to the masses. Today, authentic yoogi can be made into a litany of items as simple as household objects, to musical instruments, and works of art. A beautiful and practical gift to Korean parents would be a yoogi utensil or dinnerware set.

Pyebaek/Paebaek: A paebaek ceremony is the customary symbol of unity and respect. Traditionally, this ceremony occurs several days after the wedding where the groom’s side of the family is introduced to the new bride and welcomes her into the family. During the ceremony, the couple will take turns with each family member and their spouse—first they will bow to one another, offer each other wine, then receive words of wisdom and advice. A playful game rounds out each interaction where the older couple will toss Korean dates and chestnuts out across the table to the newlywed couple.

The number of dates and chestnuts caught in the white fabric by the couple represents the number of children they will potentially have in the future. Today, both the bride and groom’s side participates in the ceremony. During paebaek, royal garments called “hwalot” are worn by the newlyweds, however today they may also opt instead to wear a standard hanbok instead. If you’re planning on scheduling this in as part of your wedding, I’d suggest finding time either at the rehearsal dinner or the following day. It is so much fun to participate in and watch, however the participants are limited to family members(though, everyone is welcome to observe) which can potentially alienate your guests and be quite time consuming depending on the number of family members you have.

The ideas listed above are a number of the most popular and relevant Korean wedding traditions today, but my desire is that you take these ideas and make them your own! Weddings can tell our story—they can provide insight, bits and pieces of where we come from. For some, our stories and backgrounds are more diverse and it may seem difficult at first to fully depict this at a singular event, on just one (extraordinary) day. But consider your wedding day an opportunity to tell your story—the backdrop to your family tree can start even in the preparation stages with your closest family and friends. I hope that this process initiates conversations that stretch and expand current understandings among our friends. But above all, I hope that the byproduct of this is that it will set the trajectory for how you and your love can share a continuing love story—a profound love story infused by your individual traditions and heritage. Good luck, cheers, and happy planning!

Southern Fall Wedding at Ashford Acres, Kentucky

Give me all the fall vibes, please! Bright coral, moody crimson, and some pretty mauve tones are all over this beautiful autumnal wedding inspiration shoot from Ashford Acres in the Bluegrass State. And could these cuties be any more smitten with each other? Love the way Leah Barry Photography captured the fun-loving and romantic side of Teagan and Christopher…

From Leah Barry PhotographyWe chose Ashford Acres Inn, in Cynthiana, Kentucky, as the backdrop to our styled bridal shoot for its rich history and welcoming warmth. Beautifully constructed in 1858, this home later became a hospital for wounded soldiers during the Civil War. This moment in time is what inspired our love story between our bride, Laurel Teagan Williams and her groom, Christopher Ryan Gallagher.

We painted a picture of the bride’s grandmother being a nurse on this estate, four generations prior. It was on this historic land where she met her husband who was a young, injured soldier. She stood by his side through his recovery and they quickly fell in love. The bride wanted to honor her family’s heritage and chose to start the next chapter of her own love story where her grandmother’s began so long ago.

Our design vision for this styled shoot was inspired by our desire to bring color back to midwest wedding design. We began with a soft yet stunning color palette of dusty rose, soft blush, earthy reds, caramels and golden hues gave a romantic and serene sophistication to the foundation of the entire design.

The wild, organic form arrangements were balanced with a delicate whimsy of accent blooms and brought together with textural dimension. The tablescape was designed with understated elegance and simplicity in mind. Subtly textured white-washed dinnerware balanced the rustic nature of the wooden dining table. Modern gold flatware offered an elegant juxtaposition to the antique brass candlesticks that accompanied.

A variety of stylish vintage-inspired glassware was selected incorporating frosted ombré high-ball glasses, gold gilded champagne flutes and embossed lavender drinking glasses. Luxurious velvet and vintage wool textiles added visual softness through the selection of minimalist, dusty rose, velvet chairs and ornamental rugs. The stationery design followed the contemporary simplicity of the overall tablescape using a refined serif typeface and soft layering. The menus were printed on frosted vellum backed by gold leather for a chic and polished look. The invitation suite had an unexpected element of transparency using a vellum envelopes with printed liners for guests’ names and addresses.

We chose 2 gowns for our bride to wear as a transition of mood throughout her wedding day. The fitted lace ceremony gown was more traditional with a sweetheart neckline and off-shoulder sleeves. This look was accented by a jeweled headpiece and a crystal beaded silk belt. A silver tear drop diamond pendant and bracelet completed her look. The reception collection was an airy and elegant lace gown with pearl beading and delicate straps. Diamond stud earrings and a strand of rose pearls were chosen to complement. Our groom wore a timeless, two-piece, navy suit with a champagne silk tie and accenting dove grey suede Derbys.

The couple’s wedding rings were no exception to the elegant sophistication carried throughout the styled shoot. The bride wore an emerald cut diamond surrounded by a halo of pave set diamonds to add a vintage touch to a modern silhouette. The milgrain detailing matches the beading of the pave set diamonds surrounding the center stone and down the band perfectly. The groom’s wedding band was an exquisite masculine blend of mahogany, bone, and tungsten. Both rings are full of graceful detailing and beauty, just like the marriage they represent.

A Stunning Wedding in Provence with the Most Chic Hotdog Stand

I have a thing for pale blue and subtle cerulean tones in weddings so of course this beautiful Provencal wedding has my heart today! It’s always a treat to experience Weddings of Excellence Provence weddings as they’re planned to perfection with impeccable, and totally romantic, style… and Gemma and Ben’s wedding is no different (see another epic wedding featured recently here)! From her boho beautiful gown by Grace Loves Lace, to the wipe-tears-from-your-face video by La Paire De Cerises, to, last but not least, the CUTEST hotdog stand we’ve ever seen … we are in love.

Ben & Gemma
From the Bride… We met in Italy, just south of the French Coast. We both work on Super Yachts, so our first summer together we spent taking road trips along the South of France whenever the boat was in port. With the incredible wineries, green landscape and stunning architecture, we quickly decided a few weeks after meeting that one day we would get married in Provence. I’m so elated that we followed through. Hearing my husbands vows and visiting with loved ones who had flown in from 4 continents all while showing them our favourite place in the world was incredible.

The inspiration behind our big day was a stunning table setting I found on Instagram, right after we got engaged. After every wedding discussion, I kept going back to that photograph and decided to reach out to Stephanie at WEP in Provence, the Wedding Planner behind the photograph. Immediately after our first conversation, I knew she understood why this wedding was important to us – not only was it my husband’s first wedding, it was also the first time our friends and extended family were meeting, as I’m Canadian and he’s English.

Stephanie left no detail to chance, she was patient with us when we were onboard the boat without wifi for several weeks – she even organized a bicycle with a hot dog stand to cycle into our cocktail hour after I mentioned hot dogs in our first meeting. Our Wedding Day was magical. From the gold glitter arrows on the venue driveway, to the craft cocktails that I created while we were working together on our first yacht. It could not have been a more perfect day for the two of us.

The Shangri-La Hotel is What Paris Wedding Dreams Are Made Of

Francophiles, your heart is about to explode with all the Parisian wedding beauty coming your way. Set against the iconic Shangri-La, this affair planned by Smith + James Events, with florals by Madame Artisan Fleuriste is a true classic. Stunning gown, sparkling chandeliers, Eiffel Tower backdrop, it’s all sprinkled inside the beauty that is Sally Pinera’s photographs. Get lost in the magic right here.

From Smith & James… Jisun and Pieter’s nuptials in Paris were just as romantic and refined as all notions of wedding in the City of Love might be: a black-tie affair beneath carved gilded ceilings and crystal chandeliers. Dinner was prepared by a Michelin-star chef and enjoyed by candlelight. The couple was so very thoughtful in each choice and selection for their big day, prioritizing spoiling their guests at every turn.

From their gold-foil invitation suite by Amber Moon Design to their menu selection, they treated every decision with such care. It was a beautiful way to honor their love story and their loved ones at the same time. Jisun’s dress was a stunning piece from Ersa Atelier embellished with lace and intricate beadwork.

Her bouquet was a gathering of white peony and garden roses. Pieter met her for their first look in the garden of the Shangri La Paris. It was such a lovely and emotional moment. The ceremony in the historic Grand Salon of the Shangri La was breathtaking. Many of the couples’ friends are professional musicians, so the day was full of performances from operatic solos to duets of incredible singers and displays on the piano.

Afterward, guests mingled and enjoyed cocktails on the Salon de Famille and it’s perfectly appointed terrace as the sun went down. Dinner was accompanied by a jazz swing band. Guests dined on foie gras terrine, risotto with squid and prawns, and roasted duck.

Their first dance was to “Unforgettable” after which there was a display of sparklers and applause as the staff presented the couple with a traditional French croquembouche wedding cake. They ended the evening by stealing a kiss on a balcony overlooking the Eiffel Tower, then returning to their guests to celebrate on the terrace until late into the evening.

One Year After Surviving the Las Vegas Shooting, they Said I Do. And more.

I’ve been sitting here, trying to find the right words to introduce this beautiful story. But not matter what I write, it doesn’t seem to really define the day and this amazing couple in the way that they themselves, and their amazing photographer Amy Golding have done. From Amy…“There is something beautifully different about Kimber and Dana. Kindness and compassion radiate from them. Their story is one of fierce love, a tragic event that could easily break the strongest, and a renewed perspective that relationships are what matter most in life.”

A little less than one year before their wedding date, this madly in love, newly engaged couple went to the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival in Las Vegas with members of their soon-to-be bridal party. The night began as festivals they’d attended always had—with fun, laughter and good music. But when a gunman opened fire, sending Kimber and Dana fleeing for their lives, their perspectives would never be the same again.

Kimber shared, “I will count my blessings each day that He kept us together and kept us safe and I vow to do more good with this life. To live each day to the fullest and to show love at the face of hate. I am forever grateful He gave me you, Dana.” She continued, “My heart still feels broken from the tragedy we endured, but at the same time feels more full than it did before this night. It has been filled with love, kindness, compassion, and strength thanks to this unbreakable community, and for this I am grateful.

I am grateful to have survived, to be able to live my life with a more distinguished purpose, and to spread kindness wherever possible. Unfortunately, tragedy will continue to show its ugly face in our world—so I choose to focus on the gratitude I have for the beautiful souls around me and for the chance to survive another day.”

Desiring to center their wedding day on their gratitude and unbreakable love, they chose Temecula Creek Inn in Southern California for an enchanting and whimsical wedding. Nestled against the Santa Rosa Plateau, this venue is filled with beautiful California oak trees and a dreamy stone cottage.

Heidi Villa crafted a romantic, fairytale-esque braid for Kimber to adorn her gown with the most subtle sparkle. Watching this gorgeous wedding day unfold, it was clear what priority was strongest for Kimber and Dana—ensuring their family and friends feel and know the love they have for them and for each other.

Bill and Taeler met 8 years ago in NYC when their mutual friend invited Bill to a performance at the Bryant Park Dance Festival where Taeler would be performing. Following the performance, they greeted Taeler backstage where she was surrounded by friends that had come to view the performance. Bill remembers being “paralyzed” by her smile, her graciousness, and her sincerity, as she thanked everyone for coming.

They saw each other when out with friends a few times over the next few months, but Taeler was often between legs of her tour, and Bill was in a relationship. One day on a whim, Taeler sent a Facebook chat to Bill, while on tour. It read, “Hiya!” and Bill remembers instantly feeling like all of the butterflies in the known universe were besieging his stomach.

He asked when she was returning, and for her number. She got a call on a rainy day a few weeks later. It was Bill. He said, he had a friend in town, and was wondering if she’d like to join them for dinner. At the end of the night, Bill asked if he could see her the next day, and she said, only if he wasn’t tired of her. Something must have clicked, because they’ve been together since that day! Their wedding will be next summer in New York City!

A Floral Wonderland of a Wedding at Brookview Ranch

No big deal, just the sweetest couple waltzing into newly married life through a wonderland of florals! I was blown away by the whimsy around every corner and in every detail of this gorgeous wedding at Brookview Ranch in California, photographed by none other than the talented Koman Photography! A Monique Lhuillier gown, effortlessly rustic yet chic tablescapes, and a sweet serenade by both the bride and groom? Count us in!

From the groom… June 16, 2018 was truly a day like no other. The days, weeks, and months leading up to the event had been a blend between joyous celebration and detailed coordination, all leading up to the big day.

The morning of, nerves and emotions ran high, and my mind frantically raced, darting this way and that with question after question: Do I have my vows down? Did the caterer finish preparing the menu? Is the ceremony sight ready? How does this look?

Everything seemed to race at a million miles an hour until those first few seconds that I saw, through my tear-filled gaze, my darling bride walking down the aisle – hand in hand with the proudest father in the world grinning ear to ear. We had prayed and planned for this moment, and after three years of getting to know one another, it was finally here. It was as if time had stopped and all there was in the world was this moment. Step. By. Step. Like a page out of a fairytale.

From start to finish, the entire day was filled with so much love and laughter, with each moment elegantly captured by our dear friends, the Komans. They say a picture is worth a thousand words – they have given us more than enough to write this beautiful chapter in our happily ever after.

Tips and Tricks for Wallpapering Like a Pro-ish

I have been chomping at the bit for this One Room Challenge update. It is WALLPAPER installation update time… woo hoo. And when I tell you that this paper completely and totally transformed my yellow dining room, that doesn’t even do this magic justice. It is sooooo good! My mom and I decided to tackle installing ourselves and if I am being honest, I was completely terrified. BUT, we gathered our tools, watched endless amounts of youtube tutorials, loaded our podcast cue, made sure rosé was chilling in the fridge and got to work. Two full days later, we had ourselves one crazy good looking room. Here’s our must-have tools and a few tricks we learned along the way.

I fell in love with the Vern Yip Collection wallpaper from Trend Fabrics. The pattern is 30002W in color: Medium Blue 03 and the ikat pattern fits right in with my cool coastal dining room vibes. What I didn’t know before but am sooo thankful now is that the pattern is also incredibly forgiving and easy to match if you’re a wallpaper installing novice like myself. Thank you wallpaper gods!

The Wallpaper Tools I Swear By

1. Seam Roller | 2. 23″ Steel Straight Edge (for cutting edges) | 3. Smoothing Brush | 4. Drop Cloth | 5. Lots and Lots of Towels | 6. Seam Glue | 7. Wallpaper Spray Bottle ( to wet wallpaper and activate glue. can also use a water trough but this was a little less messy for us) | 8. Wallpaper Smoother and Straight Edge | 9. Utility Knife (be sure to buy a knife with an easy snap off blade so you can switch out quickly. We made the mistake of using different knives that required a screwdriver to switch out and it definitely slowed down the process) | 10. 4ft Level for plumb lines | 11. Smoothing Liner – if your walls are textured at all, this wallpaper liner will make for totally smooth wallpaper. It even works with paneling! | 12. Canvas Tool Belt – I laughed when my mom handed me my very own tool belt but let me say, that thing was a life saver! There’s so many little tools you need along the way, that having them all in a tool belt is super convenient. | Also helpful – stools for reaching high spots, a measuring tape, sharp scissors, a bucket for water, a pencil and a large table or work surface.

Tips and Tricks I Learned Along the Way

  • A bucket of water, wet rags and spray bottles are key – keep that paper wet at all times
  • Switch your blades every 2 or 3 cuts – this is uber important for clean cuts and will help avoid tearing or jagged edges
  • When you are done putting up a piece, follow with seam glue and a mini roller to really make sure those seams are flat and secure
  • If you get an air bubble that won’t smooth out, make a small prick with your utility knife and follow with the smoothing brush
  • Start in an inconspicuous area and plan out where you are going to end – and ultimately have to match the pattern.  We were so stinkin lucky that we ended up having a meet-up over our french doors where only 2″ of wallpaper show so matching or fudging a match was crazy easy. If you can make that happen, your life will be way easier
  • Plumb lines, plumb lines – follow those plumb lines. Our little cape cottage is incredibly wonky making pattern matching an interesting task! Plumb lines definitely helped to keep us on track
  • Know that it is probably going to take double the time that you allotted. Plan accordingly and have celebratory cocktails on hand when you are FINALLY finished.

We are soooo close to the end and the fun part, a.k.a. adding in all the pretty layers is here. Next week, I’ll give you a peek at all the fun accessories I am adding to really cozy up this space, like that corner of Couristan jute herringbone rug from Hayneedle in the last picture. Now excuse me while I go stare at those gorgeous ikat walls of mine. If you missed it, read my previous One Room Challenge updates Week 1 ,Week 2 and Week 3.

Modern Black Tie Styled Engagement Session

The bride behind today’s pretty pretty engagement session is one smart cookie. Why, you ask? Well, because she did something that very few couples think of. She used her Engagement Session to give her guests a sneak peak at what’s to come in her wedding. She set the tone for them. She teased her uber chic style to them. She got them excited. And she looked absolutely gorgeous doing it. This is such a smart e-session strategy and with a design from Events Held Dear and absurdly lovely photos from Kylie Bricker Photography, we’re pretty sure this pretty lady is going to go from bride to trend setter with one simple move!

From the bride-to-be… Trey and I met at the ripe age of 15 after a basketball game. Trey had been playing and I was cheering. Even though he didn’t make eye contact with me during our entire first conversation, he later blew me some kisses from across the court. He may not have won the game that night, but he definitely won this girl’s heart.

Trey and I wanted our engagement pictures to emulate the mood we had always envisioned our wedding day would portray, and that is why we decided on a styled shoot. We love the class that a black and white color scheme offers, it is simple in sense but also very dramatic. In our opinion the engagement pictures were a statement, to get our friends and family excited for something we will have waited almost 10 years to happen!

From the designer, Events Held Dear… My job was made so easy for this shoot, first because Hannah and Trey are such a fun-loving, adorable couple, and secondly because of the amazing work done by Kylie Bricker Photography to capture it all! As a wedding designer, it’s just as important to be talented in my field of work as it is to find equally talented professionals to execute my vision. And these vendors did just that!

Hannah has a really elegant vision for her wedding day, so we wanted to do the same for her styled engagement shoot. Her wedding will have a lot of black and white, clean design and (Hannah’s favorite), lots of wine and fruit, so the colors of this shoot reflected all of that! The dark colors of her and Trey’s outfits, along with the textures of her bouquet by Old Slate Farm worked so well together!

I really can’t say enough about Katie’s floral designs – the hellebores in the arrangements brought some dark hues to the shoot, and I just adore it. Not only did we do some fun portraits in my studio, but we also walked around downtown Columbus and found some beautiful stone and marble that really went along with the classy feel of their entire wedding day. I definitely think when guests see these pictures, they’ll have a great look into how their September wedding will look!

Romantic Ghanaian and Jewish Fusion Winery Wedding

Okay, my heart is on overdrive from this abundantly joyous California winery wedding! Fallon and Jeremy’s romantic, whirlwind-of-blush wedding was also a beautiful mix of their backgrounds being Jewish and Ghanaian. Another detail that I’m obsessed with is what Fallon chose to do in lieu of the traditional bouquet toss… read the deets below!

‘Maids all in navy… and we’re loving it! I especially adore the different dresses that allowed Fallon’s besties to choose what they fancied!

ALL weddings are some of life’s happiest moments, but the smiles on Fallon and Jeremy’s faces put a smile on MY face. What bliss! I also found myself staring at the stunning, wildly composed blooms… so beautiful.

Give me those DAHLIAS! Such a perfect touch for the romantic theme during their wedding… florals on florals and romance on romance!

From the bride: Jeremy and I are both very social people with incredibly different backgrounds. Jeremy is Jewish and I am a first-generation Ghanaian. We wanted to pay tribute to both of our heritages throughout our ceremony. We also have a shared love of dance so the music was incredibly important to us.

We really wanted all of our guests to feel how much Jeremy and I love each other and how we are a really great match for each other. We both love to read and are always sharing our favorite books with each other. We wanted to have a literary theme so each table was named after our favorite authors. Coming up with that list together was one of our favorite moments of wedding planning. For place-settings, each guest had their full name printed on small scroll that they could then re-purpose as a bookmark and all of our signs were printed on scrolls.

Our wedding cake also had one of my favorite literary quotes imprinted on the fondant flowers and Jeremy’s groom’s cake was a massive book with the Princeton shield on it. I know that a lot of my friends forewarned me that the wedding planning process could put a lot of strain on relationships. Jeremy and I went into it constantly reminding each other that we were planning a day that was supposed to be for us and represent how far we’ve come as a unit. We would try to wedding plan while listening to music and constantly make each other laugh. We would take dance breaks. We tried to keep in mind that the wedding would be over before we knew it so we needed to cherish every moment.

I highly recommend that the entire process be done together because it is such a happy time for the couple. A big highlight from our day was the Ghanaian outfit change that Jeremy and I had planned. Only my maid and matron of honors knew that we had a second outfit so our guests were FLOORED when we came out dancing to Drake’s “God’s Plan”. The musical choice was completely by chance but it worked out wonderfully. Another highlight was my decision to forgo the traditional bouquet toss and instead have all of the women in attendance (single or married) join me on the dance floor for “Strong Independent Woman” dance. It was so fun to dance with all of the women who have supported me throughout my life.

Beauty is in the Details of This Alfresco Affair at Oatlands Plantation

Undeniable fact: this alfresco wedding captured by Lisa Zeising for Abby Jiu Photography is gorgeous. Every last floral-filled inch will make your heart skip a beat. But when you really start to peel back the layers, you’ll find the cutest personalized details tucked inside. Things like a paper floral seating card wall, a liquid courage cart to get guests on the dance floor and mini tacos + margaritas for nibbling all planned by Roberts and Co Events + florals by J Morris Flowers. See the beauty unfold right here!

Katie and Ari envisioned a breezy summer day filled with friends, and amazing food, and a great party to wrap their year long engagement. The stars aligned and not only were they given the perfect sunny June day, but their friends and family were treated to a day full of personal and fun treats to celebrate their wedding day.

Katie fell in love with the gardens at Oatlands, and with their vendor team created a garden oasis complete with floral wall seating chart, and open air tent to enjoy that glorious summer day. Guests noshed on passed pairings such as tacos and mini margaritas, and sipped summer cucumber gimlets during cocktail hour.

After cocktail hour, guests joined the couple under their open air tent for a three course dinner followed by a liquid courage cart to promote dancing and fun all night long. Glow sticks, after dinner cordials, and comfortable flip flops broke the ice and helped out their crowd to dance all night long!

Shay and Hannah Tie The Knot & We Have the Pics You’ve Been Waiting For!

You might know him as one half of Country musics’ most loved duos, Dan + Shay, but I know him as the groom behind one of my now all time favorite weddings. And her as the ray of lovely that made this wedding truly sparkle. Welcome to Shay and Hannah’s gorgeous Arkansas celebration. Where laughter and love and a whole lot of perfect flowers came together into what I guarantee you will become one of the most popular weddings on SMP to date. Thanks in large part to a dream team of vendors including Heather Payne Photography, Cinematography: Anchor Heart Films, Styling & Coordination by Jessica Sloane and said stunning florals by Jessica Zimmerman. It’s rare that a wedding sweeps me off my feet entirely…but today, one did.

From the Bride, Hannah… Shay and I initially met through social media. We had many mutual friends and kept in friendly communication ever so often for a couple of years. However, in March of 2015 I contacted him out of the blue and asked if he ever played in Arkansas. He immediately responded that he would be there in four days…playing in the very town I lived in! (The odds of this still astound me because he has since only had two shows in Arkansas in the last three and a half years)! So, we officially met, on March 11th, 2015 at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville, Arkansas. That night, after the show, he asked me to be his date to the upcoming ACM Awards in Dallas. I agreed. And the rest, as they say, is history! Shay is everything I never knew I needed. (I truly never imagined being with a man in the music industry so it took me some time to come around). But God had other plans. Shay was. and is. patient as the day is long and makes me laugh at every turn. He’s my person. I love him more than words can express.

One of my favorite moments of the day was the first look. To give a little backstory, when Shay and I first started dating, he took me to the top of this massive hill on his farm. We just sat there looking out over the land. We talked about our lives and our dreams. We talked about wanting to build a house on a hilltop one day. We talked about how pretty it would be in the fall… Fast forward two years, and there we were again. Back on this hilltop for our first look. The wind was whipping my veil around and I was laughing as I held it onto my head and turned to see Shay, waiting for me. Patiently waiting. The pictures and video captured in these moments will stay with me all my life. It was perfect.

The bridesmaids all wore mix match dresses. I let everyone choose their own. The only parameter I set was the color palette. I wanted shades of nudes, beige, and champagnes. Honestly, I was nervous they wouldn’t end up looking cohesive but I was blown away by HOW good they all looked together! Every girl got to choose a style and fit that flattered her own body and at the end of the day, I wanted my girls to feel their most comfortable as well as beautiful!  All of the guys wore crisp white shirts and black suits with slim black tie’s. Our precious nieces looked like little angels walking down the aisle. Our precious baby boy, Asher (9 months at the time), and his cousin, Caul (6 months at the time), were both carried down the aisle in their tiny baby tuxedos. Our nephew, Gabriel brought up the end with the ring pillow looking as handsome as ever in his little tux as well.

Shay and I both grew up on farms in Arkansas. It was so special for us to be able to be married on Shay’s family farm in Natural Dam, Arkansas. To be married on the land where we were raised, to repeat our vows at home amongst the people who love us most, in the place we love most was exactly what we wanted. We were married by a very special man. Papa Mooney (Shay’s grandpa). We were so honored to be able to vow our love in front of this man. His marriage, and the marriages of all of our grandparents, were and are such beautiful examples of lasting love, founded in Christ. Shay has written songs about this kind of love. I had prayed for this kind of love. And on that day, we were married by a man who is a testament to this kind of love. Truly truly a special thing. Shay and I had written personal vows but we kept them private. On the day of the wedding, we followed Papa Mooney’s vow recital in the traditional way!

I have never been a planner, per se, but I am a creative/visual person. We were blessed to be able to work with the unbelievably talented Jessica Sloane. She allowed me to sift through images to pull what I was drawn to – to give her a feel for my aesthetic. More than anything, Shay and I wanted everyone to feel comfortable, like family. To begin with, Jessica offered me a list of words to review to see what adjectives really resonated with me. This really helped highlight the type of atmosphere we wanted. I had always admired rustic Tuscan style weddings (in movies) and imagined something similar set in fields of home. With soft breezes and an Autumn backdrop. Something inviting and warm. With Jessica’s invaluable help, we were able to achieve the mood of warmth, timelessness, a touch of romance, and an overall sense of welcome.

We used stoneware dinner plates, and golden utensils to bring the settings to life. String lights hung throughout the sailcloth tent and every table was alight with candles. Some low, in blush and mauve and mercury glass holders, some standing tall on brass candlesticks. Greenery was woven throughout the tables along with gorgeous bouquets of varying sizes; everywhere. The tables were all farmhouse style and the chairs all cross backs, hinting at the rustic warmth I wanted to impart. I loved all of the florals, designed by Jessica Zimmerman, but did I mention the grass that lined the aisle? I do not know the name of it, but it was one of my favorite details of the decor! It looked like sheaves of wheat rippling in the wind as the sun streamed through the stalks, dancing with light. It was airy and light and natural and everything I could have wanted.

We tried to incorporate personal touches throughout the day. One was the groom’s cake. Shay is not a huge cake fan. So, in leu of a traditional groom’s cake, we had maple glazed donut bars from his favorite local bakery instead! When we first met, we discovered an intense common love of maple donuts, so this substitution suited us beautifully! And our wedding favors were so special to me… My sweet momma made every single jar of jam and jelly (nearly 400)! We labeled them, “Spread the Love” because my mom’s maiden name, and my middle name, is Love. This was a small detail, but it warmed my heart to include family where we could.

I was never the girl who knew exactly what she wanted for her wedding. But I did know the only thing that really mattered to me was the man who would be standing by my side.

And now… enjoy the sunset ceremony and tented celebration that follows ~ some true movie magic from Anchor Heart Films from Hanna and Shay’s love story![iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/255412230 600 338]

And because I know you’re all dying to hear more about Hannah and Shay’s love story, we have more!

HOW SHAY PROPOSED
On August 9th of 2016, Shay told me we had reservations for an early dinner at a nice place in town. I got all dressed up and when we set out on our way to ‘dinner’ Shay began to stall. He told me he got the reservation time wrong and we needed to kill some time. So, we took a back road in to town. However, the further we went, the farther away from town we headed! I suspected a proposal was coming so I just laughed and let him take me wherever we were going. I never could have dreamed where we would end up, though. As we turned into a narrow, tree lined, drive, Shay’s song “From The Ground Up” came on the radio. We both began to cry. At the end of the drive we came to a stop in front of a stunning stone chapel (still wiping our tears as the song ended).
Ivy climbed the rock walls and in each diamond pane window, there was a candle lit. It looked like it came straight out of a fairytale. We got out of the car and Shay led me to a spot in the lawn where he dropped to a knee. I don’t think either of us remember exactly what he said in the moment, as we were both so overcome with emotion. I heard the clicking of photographers in the background as I said YES! (My one proposal request had been that there be a photographer present to capture the moment). He then led me around the front entrance of the chapel and asked if I wanted to explore a bit. He opened the ancient European doors and there, in the chapel, were my parents and his own family along with a handful of friends. I cried like a baby. The whole evening was a dream.

WEDDING PLANNING
The easiest parts of wedding planning were: A.) choosing the venue and B.) choosing the cake!
We had both always wanted to get married at home and Shay is not a big cake person so he let me go with some of my girlfriends to pick whatever I wanted for our cake flavor!
The cake was (almost) naked with touches of gold foil throughout and a trail of blush roses up the 3 tiers. Every cake tier was a traditional vanilla cake. However, every other layer was iced with either buttercream filling or strawberry filling.
Since the wedding was in Arkansas, and Shay and I live in Nashville, it was a bit difficult to schedule appointments with vendors. Not only did this require 16 hours of driving per trip (8 hours both ways) but it also meant sifting through Shay’s crazy work schedule to figure out date availabilities.
Once Jessica and I narrowed down the look and feel that Shay and I wanted for our wedding, Jessica worked her magic with the rest. She referred contacts in the wedding industry she thought may be a good fit for us. She also provided vendor options and quotes. Basically, she was my wedding fairy godmother!

WEDDING GOWN SHOPPING
I went shopping with both of my sisters-in-law. (I had a background in pageantry and have been known to be a little picky {ha!}. I had tried on all I was going to try on for the day and finally the girl assisting my search asked me “What do people expect you to wear?” I had specifically mentioned to her that I liked to keep things a little different. So, once she posed this question, I answered by saying I was sure people would be expecting me to where a form fitting gown. And for that very reason I told her I was open to trying on a fuller skirt. She ran and pulled a dress and brought it in. It was designed by Rita Vinieris and was nothing like I had tried on before. The top of the dress was sheer with lace forming a V up the front. Cream buttons were the only adornments on the back, rising from waist to nape over the sheer fabric. The girls thought I was finishing up to leave so when I came out in the dress, they both turned and gasped. Once they put the veil on, we all started crying. It was the one. My momma was unable to make the trip so we Facetime’d her for her thoughts/blessing and that was it! At the end of the day, I wanted to feel like a bride.

JEWELRY and FASHION ACCESSORIES
Since we were married on the farm, I saw no point in wearing heels. I knew they would be sinking in the ground all day. So, while I gave the photographers nude heels to photograph with our other items, I actually wore cream high-top vans under my gown. They made my life easier that day and have the added bonus of being able to be worn again! I love practicality. My jewelry, as well as my bridesmaids’ was from Haute Bride. My sweet friend, Lindsie Jones, who owns this company reached out and offered to adorn me for my special day! She was so patient and thoughtful in sending me samples for everything! I made my selections and more importantly made a connection with a sweet momma friend in Lindsie.

DIY PROJECTS
Per usual, I was scrambling around last minute to find just the right guest book. (The one I wanted to order wouldn’t arrive on time). So, I ended up purchasing one of those books that have been carved out to form a letter… Specifically, the letter “M”. I didn’t love the burgundy cloth covering the book, so I bought gold leaf and adhesive spray and voila! A golden “M” that looks decorative but now holds all of our guest’s signatures and well wishes on a shelf in our home!

OTHER TIDBITS FROM THE DAY
Music: We used A Thousand Years – Instrumental Version for the processional and Multiplied by Need To Breathe for our recessional. (All recorded)
At the reception, we had a DJ with a preselected genre of music for the mood. Our First Dance Song was Then by Brad Paisley. The Father-Daughter Dance was to Butterfly Kisses. Shay sang a song he wrote for me, which was completely special and brought me to tears.
Menu: We had bbq chicken, steamed broccoli, steamed asparagus, mashed potatoes, and dinner rolls. We had maple bar donuts for dessert for those who preferred it to cake!
Honeymooon: We honeymooned at Breathless Resort in Riviera Maya

ADVICE FROM HANNAH & SHAY
Shay and I both felt pressure to please our families and guests. We wanted to make sure everyone else was taken care of and everyone had something they would personally enjoy about the wedding. But, at the end of the day, our family only wanted OUR happiness and we recognized we were adding a lot of stress that was unnecessarily. Easier said than done, but, do try to remember whose wedding it is. This is your daI was never the girl who knew exactly what she wanted for her wedding. I won’s say don’t stress, because you will. But, at the end of the day, you will have a memory as perfectly unique and beautiful as your own love story.

Brilliant Seaglass Blue Gowns Wow at This Beach Formal Ritz-Carlton Bacara Wedding

The seaglass blue bridesmaids dresses almost floated away as they held tight to oversized white balloons. The whimsy and fun that Temy and Jonathan brought to their “Beach Formal” wedding at the Ritz Carlton Bacara Santa Barbara Resort wedding was full of color and imagination. With the help of the talented Leanne Elliott of Soliel Events and having Michael and Anna Costa Photography by their sides throughout the entire celebration added the icing on the cupcakes!

Temy and Jonathan met 2. 5 years before their big day. While neither of them knew it, it was the beginning of an endearing love story. At the time, Jonathan was a downtown LA guy. He had spent much of his adult life on the East Coast and didn’t care much for beach towns or walking around in flip flops. Temy was a Westside girl. She loved the beach and could care less for high rises and the bustling city scene. They led different lifestyles, yet their unique but interesting ways drew them closer and allowed them to build on important values that continue to help them grow both individually and together.

On their two-year anniversary, Jonathan asked Temy to a 5 AM date. Temy thought Jonathan was taking her fishing, but little did she know he had another plan. Instead of fishing, they went to her favorite beach. They watched the sunrise and shared a morning picnic. Jonathan presented Temy with a book that chronicled in pictures and words, all that they had accomplished over the past year. At books end, Jonathan went down on one knee and proposed. They celebrated with champagne under the rising sun.

Wedding planning was a bit of a struggle in the beginning. Being the spontaneous and playful one in the relationship, Temy proposed eloping to 3 global destinations with just family. Jonathan longed for a traditional wedding to mark the most significant milestone of his life. It took tireless research and many arguments for the two to compromise and learn how to foster their own team work – a much needed exercise for every soon to be bride and groom!

Temy and Jonathan tied the knot on a beautiful August day at the Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara. They were surrounded by ocean waves, majestic views, a compound of glistening white villas, and loving family and friends. The bride and groom were greeted by live music as they walked down the aisle, cliffside, with the gorgeous Pacific Ocean in the background.

Drinks were flowing as the ceremony ended and guests migrated to the ocean terrace to take in the view. Beach formal was the theme as Ibiza beach lounge music played in the background.

They curated their own coastal wedding experience with Mediterranean flair, embracing touches of vintage decor and fun elements that were absolutely dear to the couple. The guest book was a basketball, inspired by Jonathan’s love and talent for the game. Guests received arabesque tiles handwritten with love by Jonathan’s mother.

As the sun went down, the bridal parties entered setting the tone for the rest of the evening. Together, with family and friends, the bride and groom danced the night away under the stars, wrapping up what was truly the best day of their lives.

The Cutest Llama Themed Party the Internet Has Ever Seen

My twins were llamas for Halloween last year and I thought that was the cutest llama situation ever, ever…until I caught a glimpse of this birthday party captured by Eileen Liu Photography. It’s an explosion of floral llama sweetness with party goods by Oh Shiny Paper Co., balloons a plenty and fun sweets by Compact Cookies fashioned after…you guessed it…llamas!

Hungry? No prob-llama! We got sweets and snacks for this llama themed first birthday party. Compact Cookies filled the cake table with cute little llamas and cacti. The hexagon frame by Droptop Backdrop decorated with Oh Shiny Paper Co’s balloon garland served as the perfect backdrop. We made a DIY llama pinata and brought him along for the party. We wanted to keep the fun going and created a mini balloon garland for the tablescape centerpiece. Paper flowers that looked oh-so-real by Paper Ave decorated the balloon garland and tables. Paper Sandwich designed a stationary set to match perfectly and Edlyn’s hand lettered signs completed the fun! Everything was captured by Eileen Liu Photography!

Chesapeake Bay Waterfront Wedding at The Inn at Perry Cabin

You know what will never, ever go out of style? An elegant black and white color palette. That beautiful combo fits right in with everything from modern celebrations to rustic, and in this case, a stunning waterfront affair planned by Copper + Cream and floraled by Seaberry Farms. It’s a night under the stars on Chesapeake Bay captured by Kevin Glaser and it will make you fall hard for classic details. Promise.

Rachel and Matt’s wedding brought friends and family together in charming Saint Michaels, MD on the Chesapeake Bay. The fact that their wedding weekend coincided with a sailing festival only added to the classic feel of the simple yet elegant details of the wedding day.

After a waterfront ceremony the celebration moved to a beautiful tented reception on the lawn where dinner and dancing lingered late into the evening. The restrained black and white decor let the natural beauty and elegance of the venue shine through and made for a memorable wedding day.

A Southern Kentucky Derby Themed Wedding in a Polo Barn

In a sea of bright sunshine, pretty blooms, and lush Kentucky pastures, Emily and Jon celebrated their nupitals with close friends and family. Bride Emily got ready at her family farm, Winstar Farm, which actually produced Justify, this year’s Triple Crown Winner! I’m from the area so I am TOTALLY fan-girling right now… how cool! Their cheerful and sweet Southern wedding included the prettiest outdoor ceremony and we’re drooling over the photos by Jeff & Michele Photo!

From Jeff & Michele PhotoJon & Emily are free-spirited, relaxed, friendly, and a couple that embodies adorable. Emily is truly elegant and gracious. John is confident, yet subtle. Their love is filled with smiles and a very natural and endearing glow.

Emily’s getting ready was held at a historic house on their family-owned Winstar Farms, known most recently for producing the 2018 Triple Crown winner, Justify. Overflowing with lush greenery and flowers, their Lexington Kentucky wedding was nothing less than dreamy.

Having grown up around horses and horse racing, Emily incorporated aspects of that into her wedding day, while also including elegant decor that helped their traveling guests experience a taste of both the horse culture as well as a taste of Kentucky class.. The Polo Barn at Saxony Farm provided an excellent equestrian setting for her Lexington, Ky Summer Wedding.
