Contemporary Coral Wedding Inspiration at Black Hall Fiskars Village

Did anyone else jump for joy when Pantone announced that the color of 2019 would be Living Coral? I’ve been fully enjoying seeing my favorite hue in inspiration boards across the internet land and cannot wait to see some of you infuse this pretty hue in your Big Day. Today, we’re serving up slightly more muted shades of coral (dreamyyyy) in the form of this inspiration shoot from Nord & Mae. Married with a contemporary style, there’s plenty of breathing room between the details, making for jaw-dropping images by Susanna Nordvall.

From Nord & MaeWith our editorial design we wanted to bring understated vibrance into the cold, low light of the harsh winter months in the northern parts of the world. Muted coral tones and warm glowing candle light in a contemporary setting surrounded by the stark, cool walls of this loft in Fiskars. Wedding couple, Julia & Kevin are celebrating their wedding in relaxed but fashionable style, wearing clean cuts, quality fabrics and minimalistic jewellery pieces by local labels.

Our floral designs are created mixing fresh cut florals with plenty of dried bits from warmer seasons, such as palm leaves, floral pods and pepper. But we also incorporated elements we can forage during the winter months such as branches and dried reeds. With an aim to make our designs more sustainable we save and repurpose most of these dried elements from event to event. A beautiful way to keep our footprint a little lower during the cold season.

The wedding menu is designed around seasonality, using dried and fermented berries, fruits and vegetables as well as plenty of root vegetables and other ingredients readily available during winter months. We especially love the vibrant dessert designed around the wedding’s style and color palette. It pairs local sea-buckthorn berries with a moist cinnamon cake and sweet meringue.

A Charming Garden Wedding with an Autumnal Palette at Allied Arts Guild

There’s just something about garden weddings that make our hearts sing! This magical day planned by Natalie Choi Events and photographed by Meiwen Wang is our definition of a perfect garden wedding. We’re obsessed with the moody autumnal color palette and romantic fluers by Hawthorn Floral Studio, not to mention the bride’s knockout gown from Watters! See all this dreamy day has to offer below…

Check out this gorgeous film of their wedding day created by Lenny See Films!

From Natalie Choi EventsWho says garden weddings are only supposed to happen in the spring? Sherry and Robert’s autumnal garden wedding certainly proves that wrong! Their wedding took place at Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park, and their moody autumnal color palette accented the gardens perfectly.

Their floral design by Hawthorn Flower Studio featured fall foliage paired with creamy blooms, which were balanced with pale grey tablescapes and hints of gold. Sherry walked down the tree-lined aisle to the music of their string trio, escorted by both of her parents (also, isn’t her mom’s traditional hanbok just the prettiest?).

During cocktail hour, guests sipped on drinks mixed up by the Bar Car while enjoying appetizers by Capelo’s Barbecue. Sherry and Robert wanted a relaxed atmosphere for their wedding, and chose all of their food and beverage vendors from among food trucks they typically enjoy together. Their reception tables were set with a mixture of floral centerpieces and arrangements comprised of pillar candles and greenery to add a warm ambiance to their al fresco dinner.

After guests dined on the garden patio, they were treated to fresh doughnuts and coffee from Johnny Doughnuts and headed inside to dance the night away. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Sherry & Robert decided on a two-tiered giant doughnut cake accented with florals tying in to their arrangements.

The dreamy qualities of their wedding were brought out in the film images captured on film by Meiwen, and in the video shot entirely on Super 8 film by Lenny

A Minimalistic Modern Wedding at The Retreat at Cool Springs

Elegant, refined, modern… STUNNING – basically all the words that come to mind when admiring this summer wedding at The Retreat at Cool Springs planned by Linda Ha Events. Lush florals by Wild Green Yonder in a classic color scheme of fresh green and crisp white decorated the day. Vicki Grafton Photography captured every moment perfectly (per usual)… don’t miss out on a single detail at the full gallery!

From Vicki Grafton PhotographyBriana & Jesse planned an outdoor wedding in the Virginia countryside incorporating a minimal and modern aesthetic. Lush florals by Lori at Wild Green Yonder soften the clean lines and helped bridge the gap between the outdoor country estate location and the couple’s modern vibe. The invitation was designed by the bride herself, and Linda Ha Events helped style and coordinate the day despite a torrential downpour during cocktail hour. Some of my favorite details included Briana’s dress from the BHLDN Ghost London line with it’s deep plunging neckline and back and how the material draped.

From the Bride… Together at last. We fell in love when we were young, but chose to follow careers in football and design which led us to different cities. After almost a decade of long distance, and countless prayers to follow where God was leading us, Jesse proposed forever to me in our hometown, where we first fell in love. After he proposed, we walked hand in hand along the water in Georgetown. I was surprised to find our families and closest friends waiting for us on a private boat. Jesse had planned a beautiful evening celebrating with those we cherish most. We were so grateful to have Jesse’s sister, the talented Hannah Smith Photography, capture the evening.

Just like the ring Jesse chose for me, I envisioned our wedding to be effortlessly elegant and timeless; filled with warmth, laughter, and love. Every vendor we chose, from Linda Ha Events’ beautifully refined aesthetic, to Vicki Grafton’s film photography, reflected this vision. When we discovered our wedding venue, The Retreat at Cool Spring, the search was over. The stunning understated beauty of the historic home became my inspiration for planning every detail of the day. My wedding gown reflected this same effortless beauty, it’s flowing curves and endless train recalling the Shenandoah river The Retreat overlooks. As a graphic designer, I always knew I’d want to design my wedding stationery.

As a graphic designer, I always knew I’d want to design my wedding stationery. I created a suite that was minimal and refined, using a white and soft gray color palette and warm serif typography, tied together with subtle blind embossing throughout. My favorite detail is the custom seal I drew featuring an S for “Smith”, my new family name. I embossed the envelopes with this seal by hand before my dear mother sent off each invite with love.

Every detail of the day used this same white and gray color palette, accented by the soft pinks and yellows introduced in our florals curated by the talented Lori Tran. On the day of our wedding, we awoke to a forecast that was less than ideal. It had been raining for days, and it wasn’t supposed to stop. An hour before the ceremony, the clouds started to part, and the sun peeked through. Before heading down the aisle, my mom helped place finishing touches on my look from both of my late grandmothers; my Grammy’s favorite ring on my right hand and my Nana’s pin on my bouquet. Another moment I cherish is the words I exchanged with Jesse’s mom as I got ready. I have her to thank for the man her son is today. Meanwhile, Jesse got ready with his groomsmen, enjoying a toast his best friend wrote called A Coach’s Tale, a nod to Jesse’s career in football. My father walked with me over a white rose petaled aisle while a pianist played Yiruma’s River Flows in You. We exchanged vows under the magnolia tree to the words of my dear family friend and pastor who has known me since the day I was born.

A highlight of the ceremony was Jesse’s dad’s scripture reading, a moment we’ll treasure forever. After being introduced as Mr. And Mrs., we departed the ceremony while the pianist played Here Comes the Sun. We didn’t realize just how perfect that song was until that moment. Guests were invited to celebrate cocktail hour al fresco, on terraces surrounding the home overlooking the river in the distance. A classic quartet played while guests enjoyed small bites, rosé, and Jesse’s favorite Dogfish Head IPA. To open the reception, we danced to Finally Mine by Juliet Roberts, a song whose lyrics celebrate being together after so long. After my dad, sister, and Jesse’s brother shared stories and words of welcome, we danced the night away to the sound of the Bachelor Boys Band. The next day, Jesse and I stayed at The Retreat for a day of rest and reflection, celebrating that we were together at last.

From the bride… We met through a mutual friend that we shared in different social circles; Erick went to junior high and high school with her and Jessica grew up with her through church youth groups. For as long as we could remember, she would tell us stories about each other for years, and we finally met in person for the first time in 2012. Since that first day, we’ve seen each other every day since and as they say, the rest is history! I was inspired by garden vibes. I love wild and lush greenery and florals, gold vintage accents, lots of candles, and pastel colors. Morgan at Wild Muse Floral created such magic and brought my vision to life, and the vintage pieces from Etablir and Otis & Pearl were just perfect! Our wedding was really the best day ever and we LOVED every minute of it. One of our guest favorites was the boba bar; it only lasted the first hour of the reception and the line was longer than the alcohol line! We also rented a piano for a surprise that I had for Erick (the first secret I’ve ever kept for so long!). I’ve always been bad at expressing my emotions so I decided to write and perform an original song. I chickened out and didn’t sing the lyrics but I still played the piano. We learned so much in planning our own wedding. I think the best advice I have is to trust your vendors! There’s just so much that goes into the wedding, both during the planning process and also the day of, and you really can’t do everything yourself. Share your vision with your vendors but let them exercise some creativity and trust them to execute your special day so that you can just sit back and relax!

Moody + Neutral Boho Wedding Inspiration at 501 Union in Brooklyn

We don’t often see the words moody, neutral and boho strung together, but that’s why we love today’s wedding inspiration so much—especially when we see rich tones and moody vibes taking center stage in 2019. Styled by Stylish Details Events and set at 501 Union, the marriage of deep hued walls and that iconic wallpaper make way for a gorgeously dark canvas where the Bride pops in her Schone gowns and florals transform the space into a tropical bohemian love shack. Join us in the full gallery from Sara Joan for more.

From Stylish Details Events… This styled wedding photo-shoot was inspired by the mid-century design of 501 Union. This Brooklyn venue is a hot spot for couples who are looking for a unique and stylish space to say “I-do”, while skipping the bustle of the city. Sophie Mae of Stylish Details Events wanted to highlight the industrial vibe of the venue, while incorporating the soft color tones of the moment. She chose some of the best vendors from the East and West Coast to execute the vision!

The editorial was captured by Brooklyn local Sarah Joan of Sarah Joan Studio. Her photography style was perfect for the overall look and feel of the shoot, which was classic with an modern edge. The highlight film was shot by Emma of Emma Lynn Cinema. We love how Emma brought the shoot to life in her film!

We partnered with the wonderful ladies of Designs by Ahn, the Manhattan based florist who specializes in intricate and whimsical designs. We loved how she mixed classic floral selections with unexpected blooms to create a unique tables cape that offered an outside of the box “wow factor”. We opted for ice grey velvet linen from Luxe Linen to add texture to the tabletop rentals provided by Signature Party Rentals.

The marble table was custom designed by the talented team at RentQuest NYC. They also provided the dreamy velvet chairs which complimented the tableware to perfection. We especially loved the hand crafted menus and place cards created by Emily of Eclaire Paperie.

How To Make the Perfect Summer Popsicle at Home

Not only are popsicles the best. summer. treat. ever. being that they are tasty, cold perfection on a stick. But aren’t they just the prettiest ever, too? I swear I’ve pinned dozens on Pinterest and today, I’ll be adding another lovely twist from Monika Hibbs… grapefruit and peach goodness. Get the recipe below and indulge while these hot summer days are still aplenty!

From Monika HibbsSince I was a little girl, one of my favorite summer time treats has been homemade popsicles! Not only are they fun and easy to make with the kids, they always look super cute when they are finished and there are so many creative colour combinations you can make! I absolutely loved making these grapefruit and peach cream popsicles, especially because I just adore the soft pink and peachy hue! These are great for a casual, after dinner treat to enjoy in some perfect summer weather, but would also be an awesome addition for a party as you can match the popsicles to whichever colour palette your using! Hope you enjoy these homemade grapefruit and peach cream popsicles as much as I did!

Grapefruit + Peach Cream Popsicles
prep time
15 Minute/s
cook time
5 Minute/s
total time
20 Minute/s
Serves 10Ingredients
  • Grapefruit Puree
  • 1 cup of segmented grapefruit (I used about 4 large grapefruit and squeezed our all the extra juice)
  • ½ cup of simple syrup* (see recipe below, also feel free to use a bit less! Or another sweetener of your choice)
  • Coconut Cashew Cream
  • 1 cup of raw cashews
  • filtered water for soaking the cashews
  • 2/3 cup of filtered water
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (you could use the seeds from a vanilla bean as well)
  • ½ cup of coconut cream*
  • 3 tbsp. of simple syrup, agave or maple syrup. You can also lower this amount if you would like it less sweet.
Instructions
  1. Cover the cashews with filtered water and let soak overnight.
  2. Drain the cashews and place them in a blender along with the 2/3 cup of filtered water, vanilla and simple syrup.
  3. Blend on high for about 2-3 minutes to get it nice and smooth.
  4. Add in the coconut cream (*I leave my can in the fridge and let the water separate from the cream, I scoop out the cream and use the water in smoothies!) Once it is all blended, place in a container that will be easy to poor out of. Rinse the blender well.
  5. Cut the grapefruit into segments and place in the bender along with the simple syrup, blend on high for about 2 minutes until nice and pureed.
  6. I like to add some sliced Grapefruit into the popsicles to make the pop! Simply cut of the skin and rind off the grapefruit and slice into rounds and then in half.
  7. Arrange some slices into the popsicle molds and add the grapefruit puree about half way up. Top with the cashew coconut cream, poor gently so that you can create layers.
  8. If you are using the mold similar to the one we used than you can place the popsicle sticks in right away.
  9. Freeze for about 6-8 hours.
  10. Dip the mold in hot water to help and release the popsicles.
  11. For the simple syrup you'll need 1 cup of cane sugar and 1 cup of water.
  12. Boil until the sugar dissolves, let cool and keep in the refrigerate in a sealed container for up to two weeks. (can be used in cocktails etc.)
  13. Peaches and Cream Variation (Same cashew coconut cream recipe as above)
  14. 2 cups of white peaches (that is what we used but feel free to use whatever fresh peaches you can!)
  15. 1/4 - 1/2 cup of simple syrup tastes after ¼ and see if the sweetness is enough for you.
  16. Wash up the fruit, cut in half and remove the pit. Leaving the skin on helps to make the pretty color.
  17. Cut the peaches into smaller pieces and place in the blender with the simple syrup.
  18. Blend on high for about 2 minutes until you get a nice smooth puree (We strained the mixture but feel free to omit this step).
  19. Add in the coconut cashew cream and mix well.
  20. Poor the mixture into the popsicle maker and freeze. Play around with the fruit, cherries, oranges strawberries. Really anything would work well just make a puree with fruit and some simple syrup and add the coconut cashew cream. Enjoy!!!

Italian-Inspired Wedding with Autumn Hues at Villa Montalvo

This wedding has me on overload, in the best kind of way. The Bride’s elegant loose hairstyle, the artful blooms by Amanda Vidmar, the color palette so pretty you want to eat it, the sweet pup, the venue… you name it, this wedding has it. With planning by Natalie Choi Events, every step of the way is carefully designed for these two beautiful people. The best part? Jen Huang captured every moment so that each and every image stands stunningly on it’s own, yet tells the complete story when strung together.

From Jen HuangJulie and Creighton were wed on an afternoon in September filled with dreamy, golden light on the beautiful grounds of Villa Montalvo, a historical private estate now restored into a lovely wedding venue. Inspired by seasonality and Julie’s romantic vision for her wedding, rich autumnal tones were woven throughout their wedding design, balanced with romantic, delicate blooms to complement the lush grounds of Villa Montalvo. Julie made her grand entrance into their ceremony walking down the dramatic, tree-lined pathway in the estate garden where Creighton was waiting for her at the end of the aisle, ready to exchange both vows and rings. Later that evening, guests dined al fresco on the veranda at long banquet tables set with gold-accented tableware and velvet linens, adding an elegant touch to their organic decor. Julie surprised Creighton with a song she performed for him and their guests during dinner, which was followed by their sweet first dance. Their celebration could not have been complete without the presence of their fur baby, their cute pup Summer. After dinner, guests were treated to sweets which included macarons, cookies, and a Asian-inspired black sesame cake decorated with gold foil and blooms matching their floral decor. Julie and Creighton spent the rest of the evening lounging on the veranda with their guests, enjoying the warm September evening while sipping on wine and champagne.

Tuscan Renaissance Wedding Inspiration at Villa di Geggiano

What’s more romantic than a wedding under the Tuscan sun? I mean, it’s pretty hard to beat if you ask us! This gorgeous shoot with planning and design by Fête Event Planning and photos by Molly Carr Photography is all the inspiration you’ll ever need for the romantic renaissance wedding of your dreams. Don’t miss all the enchanting details at the full gallery, from bold and bright fleurs by Isibeal Studio to a Tuscan castle fit for a royal.

From Fête Event PlanningWhen we stumbled upon the Villa di Geggiano it was like stepping back in time to 18th century Italy. Set atop a hill in Chianti, the estate has breathtaking views of vineyards and olive groves in every direction. The villa’s remarkable interior decoration – done in the most avant-garde style of the 1700s – has been lovingly preserved by the Bianchi Bandinelli family and was an incredible source of inspiration for our collaboration.

As we often like to do, we took our cues from the spaces. With the fabulous creative partnering of Isibeal Studio and Fête Event Planning, we set out to imbue our stylings with a sense of modern Renaissance romanticism underpinned with a touch of mysticism, all artistically captured by Molly Carr Photography.

As you turn every corner there are beautifully aged treasures. Were they placed there by the gods? The images create a narrative evoking a sense of magic and romance through painterly images, the patina of the villa and the creative backdrops of florals and tablescapes we created using some beautiful pieces from Duchess & Butler. Our model is a true Italian redhead in the mood of Boticelli.

Sanni Sorma created her looks that ranged from soft & demure, to Renaissance glam to delicate & ethereal. The bridal gowns were furnished by Pandore in Paris and feature creations by Sadoni and by Inmaculada Garcia. The paper designed by Studio French Blue tied in the romantic and mystical elements, with a wedding announcement laid out in the traditional Italian format, and a custom star chart for the date. The paper suite was styled using paper pressed with a relief of fresco from the famous Fabriano Paper Mill.

Outdoor Garden-Inspired Wedding at Scripps College

I’ve read a lot of school sweetheart love stories, but I don’t think I’ve ever read one quite like this. You see, Emma and Riley’s first meet-cute was in kindergarten, long before their love blossomed during their college days—but, this love story goes back even further. These two are actually ‘birthday buddies’ as described in the Groom’s sweet story below. They were born in the same hospital just two hours apart! Truth… this is the stuff of romance movies you guys, and as I pore over their wedding day images from Rachel Solomon, I feel as if I’m experiencing the most darling story. Thanks to LVL Weddings & Events, every detail matches up to their love. See it all here.

From the Groom… Only a few weeks after getting engaged at picturesque Boathouse Row in Philadelphia, where Emma had spent her afternoons and weekends as a high school rower, the first decision we made was to hold our wedding at Scripps College in Claremont, California. This was an easy decision for us. Emma went to Scripps, I went to Claremont McKenna across the street, and we have ten total alumni of the Claremont Colleges between our two families. Plus, both of our families and many of our friends live in southern California. Scripps is full of beautiful Spanish Colonial Revival buildings from the 1920s, interspersed with immaculate groves and hedges. It had multiple spaces of different size and character, and could accommodate our ceremony and reception in adjacent spaces. We knew Scripps would be the perfect backdrop to our outdoor wedding on a warm June evening and would help us to strike just the right tone of beautiful and stately without feeling formal and stuffy. It also helped that in an outdoor venue, we wouldn’t even come close to bumping up against space constraints.

Emma and I first met in kindergarten. We were birthday buddies – coincidentally, we were born in the same hospital only two hours apart! After being friends for that year, we went off to different schools and didn’t reconnect until years later. Shortly after we had a chance encounter as teenagers, Emma’s family moved to Pennsylvania. We lived on opposite coasts and wrote letters to one another all through high school. A series of coincidences brought us both to the Claremont Colleges, where we became a couple in the fall of 2008 during our second year.

I’m not on Instagram or Pinterest, so I wasn’t aware of many of the wedding trends that are popular these days. Instead, my thought process began by reflecting upon some of the awesome parties that Emma and I have been fortunate enough to attend over the past few years, then putting together a list of the elements that truly mattered to us and that we thought would make for the best possible experience for our guests who were making the trip from near and far to celebrate with us. First, we wanted good food and lots of it. Second, we wanted everyone just having a fun time in an unfussy setting. The point of the event was to celebrate our marriage, but we didn’t want it to be the “Riley & Emma Show,” nor did we want people to have to sit through too many formalities. Third, we wanted to bring together a meaningful group of family and friends, draw upon the narratives within and between each of our lives, and create an unforgettable atmosphere of togetherness. Guests won’t remember which champagne you served, but they’ll never forget the stories they heard and the experience they got to be a part of.

The Food: From our first visit to Made by Meg, where they prepared a six-course showcase of their capabilities, we knew they were the right choice for us. Their food was delicious, colorful, and creative. But even more importantly, Alysa at Made by Meg worked hard to understand our vision, then executed it perfectly. Her work is innovative and thoughtful, and in over 60 emails and 10 phone calls between us (we had some complicated ideas), she never once said ‘no’ to a single thing – only, “I bet there’s a way we can make that work.”

Good food is a focal point of our families’ gatherings. Our favorite meals are ones served family style where everyone gets a taste of many different items. Moreover, we’re constantly trying new cuisines because we believe in the ability of unique food to keep events interesting and open your eyes to new perspectives. Made by Meg helped us bring this same sense of excitement and culinary discovery to our guests by creating a buffet of four stations, with each station representing a different moment in our lives. Our wedding guests dined on kabobs like the ones each of our two families barbecued at the beach when we were kids. The next station offered tacos, a classic staple for anyone who has grown up in southern California. Then we had a seafood station serving, among other things, bagels and lox, a family classic that my grandparents got me hooked on from a young age. Finally, we had a Korean station dishing up the favorites that had become our comfort food during two years that Emma lived in Los Angeles’s Koreatown. Our stationers, Copper Willow Print Studio, printed menus that explained to our guests the significance of each station.

The Fun Party: It was important to us that we give our guests a fun time. We started the evening with the bridal party walking down the aisle to an entertaining arrangement of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” with accompaniment on the violin and piano from our musicians Summer Swee-Singh and Yasmeen Al-Mazeedi. The Beatles are Emma’s favorite band, so their music featured heavily throughout our ceremony and reception, particularly George Harrison’s work. Emma walked down the aisle to “Here Comes the Sun” with her two older brothers. After the ceremony, we all danced down the aisle to “What is Life?” by George Harrison. Our first dance was “Something.” Immediately after our first emotional dance, we got the party started with the Hora, where we got lifted into chairs above the crowd. After the Hora, the dance party was officially underway!

It was also important that the party be inclusive and fun for everyone. We have a lot of young relatives, and we worked to make the event kid-friendly, offering on-site daycare (via the incredible Noteworthy Nanny) for kids while their parents got down on the dance floor. Britt and the team at Dolphin Rentals created a beautiful lounge area – complete with corn hole and a three-foot tall Jenga set – for anyone who wanted a break from dancing, but still wanted to feel like they were a part of the party.

The People: We were acutely aware that, in addition to celebrating our union as husband and wife, this event would be so important because it would bring together a collection of people from all stages of each of our lives who would probably never all be in one place again. From Riley’s 95-year-old grandmother to Emma’s four-day old niece, we assembled an incredibly meaningful group of family and friends, and Rachel Solomon did an impeccable job of capturing each moment on film.

Our ceremony was officiated by Emma’s former boss, a US magistrate judge. The ceremony was deeply personal – it told the love story of us, honored our family members who are no longer with us (notably, Emma’s father),and included a reading from Riley’s aunt. We decided to sign the ketubah during the ceremony with all our friends and family present.

Riley works in real estate and is a geography enthusiast, so the idea of place is especially significant to him. We named each table after a place we’ll remember all our lives (like The Beatles song). We printed out sheets with old photos and stories and left them near the centerpieces so our guests could learn more about their table name’s inspiration and why it mattered to us.

The Flowers: Heavenly Blooms did an incredible job of bringing Emma’s vision to life. Always a fan of simple elegance, Emma wanted to enhance the natural beauty of Scripps College. Choosing a white and green palette, Heavenly Blooms did an amazing job of incorporating beautiful blooms that amplified the beauty of an already stunning space. Emma’s bouquet featured white peonies, her absolute favorite.

The Favors: Emma had the idea to give all our guests a sentimental keepsake that was both beautiful and (potentially) useful. Emma’s favorite cocktail is a Moscow Mule, and decided that those beautiful copper mugs would be an incredible gift. Perhaps they could be part of the escort cards too? This whim became one of the focal parts of our wedding (and definitely a ton of work!). Riley designed a wedding crest to imprint onto the mugs and then worked with a manufacturer in India to create them. The results were well worth it! These glimmering mugs not only served as a beautiful memento to a meaningful day in our lives, but it was so fun (and beautiful) to see everyone drinking out of them throughout the night! Even now it is still exhilarating to go over to friends’ houses and see our wedding copper mugs getting good use. Emma still uses hers on an almost daily basis.

The Dress: Emma initially struggled when it came to a wedding dress. After going to several boutiques in New York City she decided to check out this great local boutique that everyone had recommended. Little did Emma realize (having never watched “Say Yes to the Dress”) her “local boutique” was a titan in the industry. Yes, our local wedding boutique (a mere four blocks from our apartment) was Kleinfeld’s. Emma made an appointment and just brought her mother. The experience itself was surreal and incredible. After finally getting a grasp of what she wanted, Emma ended up with a custom-designed Pnina Tornai gown that will always make her giddy. Emma’s dress was soft, flowy, comfortable, and delightful to the touch. Emma employed her self-created “spin test” to see how the dress would spin when she danced—needless to say the Pnina Tornai dress passed with flying colors as Emma spun the night away.

Emma and I lived in New York while planning our southern California wedding. Britt Kingman of LVL Events did a superb job of planning everything and creating exactly the sort of celebration we’d envisioned. She was a consultant, sharing best practices from her experience and serving as a problem solver; a muse, helping us to more fully form our ideas and bringing in countless ones of her own; a therapist and mediator, helping to calm us and reminding us that everything would work out; and so much more.

Britt was the proverbial conductor of an orchestra of countless moving parts. We had no idea how many vendors it took to pull off a big wedding. At each point in the process, Britt brought us great recommendations and made the impossible happen. She helped us come up with an aesthetic that perfectly brought together the tradition and solemnity of a wedding with the casual, relaxed vibe we wanted to permeate our outdoor SoCal celebration. She kept us on track, bringing to life our favorite ideas (“Can we have fruit integrated into our centerpieces as a tribute to our area’s citrus-growing history?”), helping realize the unique elements we wanted to try (“Can we give everyone a Moscow mule mug stamped with our wedding logo?”), and keeping us focused when some of our ideas got a little too ridiculous (“The Hora is over five minutes long and can get repetitive by playing the same few lines over and over. Let’s drop a Lil Wayne verse into ‘Hava Nagilah’ to spice things up.”). Britt made our dream wedding come to life. Planning a 300-guest wedding involves making a thousand decisions, big and small, and Britt expertly handled about 970 of the details, saving only the most fun ones for us.

Romantic Spring Wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch in California

I don’t measure a wedding day by its details (although this one isn’t short of all. the. pretty), I measure it by smiles. And this celebration of love is chock a block full of them. Rachel Owens made sure to capture every single one, while Vanessa Michelle Co. took care of the beauty layered in between. Let the full gallery brighten your day and inspire your fete-to-be.

From Rachel OwensNicole & Tom wed at the classic Hummingbird Nest Ranch on a beautiful California day. The two are pre-destined. Their elegant celebration was planned by Vanessa of Vanessa Michelle & Co. Who effortlessly guided the bride through her dream day. The spectacular florals, designed by Nancy Teasley of Oak & the Owl, were a pop of bliss – they were soft & enchanting; perfectly arranged. Nicole’s gown had a plunging back & outlined her svelte, model frame and she looked simply editorial. The handcrafted calligraphy by Seniman Calligraphy was uniquely tailored to Nicole’s taste and echoed their day in a beautiful way. Some of the most precious moments of the day were when Nicole’s grandfather escorted her down the aisle with so much love and adoration & when Nicole’s maid of honor brought all of her guests around her during her toast so Nicole & Tom could feel the love of all their family & friends. Best of all, their wedding day was joyful, stress-free & organic. As a photographer, it was a day that will forever be one of my all-time favorites.

A Lush Garden Wedding at Rancho Bernardo Inn

Fairytale marked by seemingly unreal beauty, perfection, luck, or happiness — Today’s wedding planned by Events by Talissa will truly make you believe in fairytales. Taylor and MaKenzie’s love story began when they were just 14 years old. Since then, it has bloomed into a beautiful, everlasting romance… so of course, they celebrated their love with a wedding equally as beautiful! From a ceremony scene that you won’t be able to stop staring at to an abundance of elegant blooms by Modern Bouquet – prepare to fall in love with this day captured perfectly by Ether & Smith!

From the Bride… Taylor and I met when we where 14 years old and it is a love story that continues to evolve. If you knew us in high school you might not have picked us out of a crowd to be together. Taylor was a rebellious skateboarder, yet he was so humble with a heart of gold. I, on the other hand was the good girl who loved her best friends and focused only on being the best dancer I could be. Even at 14 years old though, I knew there was something so uniquely special about my Taylor.

We have been dating ever since (despite a couple pauses in between) but I always knew we were soulmates. When you meet your person at such a young age you grow up together and that brings all of its own challenges but he is my love story and I wouldn’t change any of it because it brought us to this moment!

From Events by TalissaWhen I started to plan this wedding, I knew it was going to be beautiful the second I sat down with McKenzie and her mother. Her mom is the president of a very successful interior design firm and McKenzie naturally followed in her mom’s footsteps, so their keen eye for design and exquisite taste made for a very fun planning experience.

he Rancho Bernardo Inn is naturally beautiful, with so many trees and European influence. When designing the wedding, we really wanted to make sure we took inspiration from the surrounding areas. Her ceremony and dinner both took place on the beautiful Aragon lawn which is surrounded by hundreds of rose bushes and full of timeless charm that makes me fall in love with weddings. Couldn’t have asked for a better setting!

A Stunning Private Barn Wedding with Colorful Accents

Who wouldn’t want a little good luck on their wedding day, huh!? Well, this adorable couple was showered with it as they tied the knot at the Ashlwan Estate in Colorado. We’re beginning to really love rainy wedding days… they’re an excuse to get cuddly and truly make for the most romantic photos EVER. This gorgeous wedding planned by Calluna Events and photographed by James & Schulze is proof that a few drops on your wedding day is nothing to fear – if anything, it’s a gift!

From Calluna Events Anna + Bryan were a fantastic couple that were so focused on creating a special experience for their guests. The venue (Ashlawn Estate) is owned by Bryan’s boss, and this was the inaugural on the property! Stunning views of the flatiron and haystack mountain left guests in awe, and despite the rain, the day turned out beautifully.

Anna was not afraid of color and Fawns Leap Flowers created the most stunning bloom and palette for the wedding. There were unique elements throughout which included a signature cocktail with sorbet in it, an amazing bluegrass for cocktail hour, a seating and bar chart made of canvas, and polo playing on the ceremony site the morning of!

The property is absolutely spectacular and it was an amazing experience planning the first wedding ever! The ceremony begun with the brides grand entrance through the barn doors, though it continued to drizzle, the bride was nothing but smiles. The ceremony, officiated by childhood pastors, was meaningful and sacred and tears were flowing!

Guests cocktailed on the lawn while munching on delicious bites from Blackbelly… (house made blackbelly sausage, pickled mustard seed shrimp ceviche on corn chip, avocado, house made ricotta & preserves on crostini, edible flower garnish… YUM) and were eventually invited into the tent for a family style meal and an epic dance party! Did I mention the full moon rose over haystack mountain and lit up the sky? Guests danced the night away and enjoyed the perfect Colorado wedding.

DIY Free Calligraphy Wedding Printable with Love Poem by Rupi Kaur

When a title includes the words free, printable and calligraphy in it, it’s kind of common sense that you should be taking a gander. Dreamt up by Jacquelyn of Lark & Linen, for her very own wedding, this ‘DIY’ love poem printable (with calligraphy by Becca Joas) is the loveliest touch to a wedding welcome table. Bonus, you can display in your home afterward! Get the details below and see Jacquelyn’s full wedding feature here and DIY vow books here.

Supplies

8×10″ deckled edge paper
Inkjet printer
Poem template
Double-sided foam stickers
11×14″ backing board
11×14″ photo frame
1/2 yard linen fabric
Glue
Scissors

Instructions

  1. Put a sheet of deckled edge paper in your printer.
  2. Download the template & print out on the paper (the template is sized for 8.5 x 11″ paper, you may need to set the printer to fit to scale if your paper is a different size).
  3. Iron the linen fabric smooth, and cut it to be 1″ larger than the backing board on all sides.
  4. Wrap the linen around the backing board as though you were wrapping a present. Glue on the back side only, making sure the fabric lies smooth and flat on the front side. Let it dry with a large book or other flat heavy item on top.
  5. Place a foam sticker on each corner of the poem paper (back side). Peel off the adhesive on the other side of each sticker, and then press the paper onto the center of the linen backing board. This will give a slightly lifted “float mount” effect.
  6. Place the mounted poem in the frame, & voila!

An End of Summer Garden Wedding at Riviera at Massapequa

A stunning blush and white wedding on Long Island?! Sounds like the best way to end the summer with a bang if you ask us! This adorable couple tied the knot at Riviera at Massapequa, a classic venue with a rustic twist. Their day was filled with soft and romantic blooms by Tims Florist and the sweetest pale pink Jenny Yoo bridesmaid dresses. Lucky for us, Jennifer Lam and Betsi Ewing Studio were there to capture the magic unfold! See it all below!

[iframe https://player.vimeo.com/video/307807047 600 338]

From the bride… Danny and I had the perfect end to the summer Long Island wedding. This was a stunning classic rustic venue filled with soft, fun, romantic, garden pictures. It also had a lot of white and greenery. Every weekend on Long Island this summer was filled with rain. We knew if we got a beautiful summer night that it would be a home run not just for us but for everyone. Everyone would be in a good mood and that is exactly what happened.

Details were very important to my special day. I wanted it to be a different experience for everyone. We got so lucky and it was one of the first Saturday nights in the summer that was sunny which made it even better. People were really enjoying themselves. We had our cocktail hour outside on the water with a full pasta station since the bride is 100% Italian. We also had a rustic lemonade stand that had our two signature cocktails. The lemonade stand was such a hit and made it easy for people to have a nice summer drink in their mason jar. They kept the jars as favors. We wanted it to be very elegant but also wanted people to feel laid back and relaxed. I think our photographer did a great job capturing the beauty of the rustic venue but still capture it in a stunning way. We kept the wedding party very small and only included our siblings. I was never a fan of color so I made sure to use a lot of white and a lot of greenery. My sisters had on very pale pink Jenny Yoo gowns which were stunning. My brothers and his brother had on navy blue Calvin Klein tuxedos. They were perfect combo for summer.

Our priest made us write essays about “Why this person out of everyone?” –  to our Surprise he read the full essays. It was super magical and everyone loved it. On Long island there is a famous burger place called All American in Massapequa. We got 100 hamburgers and 100 cheeseburgers for guest to enjoy on their way home. They were a big hit because me and my husband didn’t even get a chance to eat one because they were all gone. We don’t know how to use Uber so we called a yellow taxi to go home that night and everyone made fun of us. Overall it was a great end to the summer and a great beginning to the rest of our lives. We also used the perfect song ft Boccelli which all my Italian family members loved. Someone told me during the wedding planning process not to stress the right choices , that the right choices will make themselves known. This really helped me because at the end of the day, the right choices do pop up and make themselves known. I made a board and it started with 100 pictures then closer to the wedding it had 7 of the things I really wanted.

DIY Calligraphy Vow Books with Free Download

This morning we featured what I know will be my favorite wedding of 2019. Sure, I may be biased as the Bride is my dear friend Jacquelyn, but I think you’ll agree it’s ridiculously beautiful and not to mention, filled with an abundance of steal-worthy details. One of those deets are these pretty little vow books, graced with art and calligraphy by Jess Blazejewski and Becca Joas, respectively. If you’re planning to make your vows your own, these beauties are equally one of a kind and won’t take up all of your precious wedding planning hours.

Supplies

“Our Vows” free template from Becca Joas Calligraphy
5×7″ Handmade paper for book cover
5×7″ Gray paper for book interior pages
1/4″ Silk Ribbon (we cut down this silk chiffon ribbon to that width)
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Bone Folder tool
Needle
White embroidery thread

Instructions

  1. Download the “Our Vows” template from Becca Joas Calligraphy. Print out onto handmade paper. Be sure to set your printer to the size of the handmade paper and the thickest paper setting. It may take a few tries to get your printer to cleanly pick up the paper.
  2. Use a ruler to mark 0.25″ on all four sides of the gray interior paper pieces. I used 3 pieces of paper but you can use as few or as many as you like.
  3. Place the ruler firmly on the pencil line and gently rip the edge off the paper on all four sides, giving a lovely hand-torn edge to the paper and ensuring the interior page is smaller than the book cover. Repeat for the remaining interior pages.
  4. Fold the “Our Vows” cover page in half and use the bone folder to cleanly press the fold. Fold the interior pages in half and cleanly press the folds. Place the interior pages inside the book cover.
  5. Thread the needle with the white thread and knot one end of the thread. Open the paper pages to the center page. Press the needle through the paper pages, starting at the bottom of the fold in the innermost page and go all the way through the outside cover.
  6. Push the needle back through the pages (from the outside cover in) at around halfway up the spine of the book. Turn the needle around and push it back through (from inside to outer cover). Finally at the top of the book spine push the needle through again (from the outside cover in), knot the thread, and trim any excess thread.
  7. Tie 1/4″ thick ribbon around the spine of the book. Knot the ribbon on the outside of the spine and leave two long trailing tails of ribbon. Repeat steps 1-7 for a second book for your spouse-to-be.
  8. Write your vows inside the books and exchange at your wedding ceremony.

Interior Designer Jacquelyn Clark’s Wedding at Colette Cafe in Toronto

This beauty right here, she is one of my very favorite people (and quite unbelievably, we’ve never officially met in person). Jacquelyn and I began working at Style Me Pretty just months apart. In the six years since, she’s had in me in awe in more ways that I can count—from her incredible editorial contribution in launching SMP Living to her gorgeous blog, Lark & Linen to starting her own interior design firm. She does everything with care, kindness and a sense of style that will draw you in; I knew her very own wedding would be graced with that same air. Today, I have the honor of sharing her breathtaking celebration with you all—thanks to the photography genius of Will Reid—and I couldn’t be more happy seeing my smiling friend as the prettiest Bride ever, marrying her forever.

From the Bride, Jacquelyn of Lark & LinenTo be completely honest, I’ve never really been much of the bridal-type. As an interior designer by trade, looking back, it’s no surprise to me that most of my childhood daydreams revolved around renovating houses (usually complete with drawbridges and epic spots for hide and seek). I always hoped that getting married and raising lots of babies was going to be in my future, but I never really imagined a wedding of my own.

So when my now husband, Justin, proposed back in February 2017 after just over ten years together, I was of course thrilled. But, despite working under the Style Me Pretty umbrella for years, the whole wedding planning process immediately felt daunting for both of us.

Neither of us are the type who like a lot of attention, and if it were up to us at the time, we would have happily eloped and exchanged our vows on the peak of a mountain somewhere magical, and far away.

But with a massive extended family on both sides, of whom we obviously love and adore, it just didn’t feel right to leave them out of such a pivotal moment in our lives. So we ultimately decided that a simple wedding at home, surrounded by only our closest friends and family, was going to be the name of our game. The only caveat: we were going to do it our way.

We quickly got to work planning a day that suited us as a couple best. We really questioned almost every wedding tradition we had heard of, or experienced, in the past, and truly only partook in the ones that felt most like “us”. We began crafting our picture perfect day with a focus on a lot of small, personal details – like signature cocktails, homemade vow books, and a custom monogram we sprinkled virtually everywhere we could think of.

Our resulting wedding day ended up being an intimate event with our nearest and dearest, complete with cocktails and champagne aplenty, and tons of food (and fabulous fixed food stations) being passed around all evening. And, perhaps my favourite moment of the night, was when a delivery man showed up in the wee hours with bags overflowing with Big Macs and Junior Chickens – dare I say the best way to wrap up an elegant evening? Months later, our friends still talk about it (which, to me, is a wedding win, as far as I’m concerned).

In addition to omitting a sit down dinner, the bouquet toss, and speeches, we decided to skip the traditional “first dance”. I actually adore the first dance tradition for other brides – it’s one of my very favourite moments. But knowing full well that a room full of people staring at me while I dance would be the quickest way to take me right out of the moment, I really didn’t want to participate. Instead, without telling a soul, we asked our DJ to play our song the moment she saw us both nearby. It was our cue to hop on the dance floor, surrounded by our favourite people, and partake in a secret first dance that only the two of us were in on. And while there are so many wonderful memories from that day back in July that are burned into my memory for the rest of time, this particular moment, in the arms of my husband, literally on cloud nine, is one that I’ll truly cherish forever. It makes me almost weepy just thinking about it.

And while our intimate cocktail party in the heat of the summer downtown Toronto was anything but a mountaintop with no soul in sight, it was perfect in every sense of the word. It truly was everything we could have imagined and more. Although I used to be a bit of a skeptic, I can say with confidence that our wedding day really was the best day of our entire lives. It was an impeccable way to kick off this next phase of our lives, and I’m forever grateful for the entire experience.
