Colorful + Cultural Wedding Blue Hill At Stone Barns in New York

Having meticulously planned my own wedding, I can attest that it takes a lot to get to that end result. So, when I see a celebration like this one, jam-packed with layers of personalized details, I not only see the love, but feel every curated, every carefully crafted moment…thanks to the uber-talented designer Bride, who made all that beauty come to life. From incorporating her own art to seamlessly blending two cultures together, she truly thought of every last detail. Even asking her 90-year-old uncle to be the ring bearer (sweetest thing ever)!! With The Wedding Library at the coordination helm, Peartree Flowers on bloom duty and Sophie Kaye behind the lens, it was a truly special celebration and one that I promise you’ll want to cozy up to!

The theme of the wedding was A Midsummer Night’s Dream with a Chinese twist. Set at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, nestled in a beautiful countryside landscape just beginning to turn to autumn, the celebrations made every effort to pay tribute to the natural surroundings, from the carefully selected menu to the elaborate decor. The hallway leading to the reception featured a romantic cascade of hanging vines and fall foliage in a gradient of colours, while the tables were covered with flowers and tall, lush branches, dripping with hanging candles, to transform the space into a glowing enchanted forest. The overall effect was both sophisticated and magical.

As both the bride and groom are Jewish, and the bride is Chinese as well, the wedding represented a true marriage of the two cultures. Before the ceremony, the families and wedding party participated in a private tea ceremony and Ketubah-signing, during which the bride wore a traditional Gua dress from Hong Kong, while the groom donned a Chinese “cabbage blossom” over his suit. At the reception that evening, everyone danced the Hora, and to close out the night, they had a Taiwanese-style send-off, offering Chinese wedding candies to their guests.

The chuppah was the centerpiece of the ceremony, a gorgeous floral structure with moody and romantic hanging blossoms. At nightfall, it was revamped into a lantern-lit pavilion that guests could walk through to get from the hayloft to the main restaurant. The effect was utterly ethereal, with the soft, rosy glow from the lanterns lighting up the dark courtyard. It was the perfect way to repurpose the chuppah, and served as a stunning and memorable bridge between both cultures!

As for the bride’s gown, she chose a romantic, off-the-shoulder dress with beaded flowers across the shoulders by Israeli designer Chana Marelus, who personally added unique embellishments to the dress. Veil-designer Daphne Newman created a bespoke veil with matching flowers and beadwork. As a special touch, Daphne embroidered Kim and Isaac’s names onto the petals of one of the flowers in the center of the veil. Isaac wore a custom-made blue Zegna suit with a red velvet bow tie, and gifted his groomsmen and the two fathers with kimono bow ties in varying shades of red, each with a different pattern, to compliment the bridesmaids’ dresses. Finally, the guests wore burgundy kippot during the Jewish ceremony.

As Kim is an artist and is often commissioned to design wedding invitations, it was a dream come true for her to be able to design the artwork for her own wedding. She created and hand-lettered all of the paper goods, from the personalized crest and invitations to the escort cards and the custom-made mugs in the gift bags. The wedding suite featured whimsical illustrations of significance to both Isaac and Kim, as well as auspicious Chinese motifs and symbols to honour Kim’s heritage.

From the beginning, Kim and Isaac knew that deciding on a color scheme would be nearly impossible; Kim’s love of colors has had a huge influence on her artwork, and would play a big role in the wedding as well. Instead, they chose to draw inspiration from the mood and environment of the day: autumnal foliage and crisp chinoiserie as an homage to the season, bridesmaid dresses ranging from the palest blush to a deep burgundy as a nod to Chinese wedding colours, and rich jewel-tones for the tables and bouquets to tie everything together. On the whole, the tapestry of colours was what helped make the day so festive and unique, and full of warmth and happiness.

From The Wedding LibraryI just adored this wedding – full of color, cultural elements, and the sweetest couple. The bride, Kim, illustrated their incredible invitations, all paper goods, and the favors. I was so excited to shoot with such an amazing color palette – a pastel blue runner, a vibrant chuppah, and the most painterly florals made up their wedding day details. The couple involved moments from both of their families and religions, with traditional jewish elements, chinese lanterns, and a tea ceremony.

A Tropical Destination Wedding at Ak’iin Beach Club in Tulum

If we could get an invite to any wedding on SMP – this tropical destination wedding in Tulum captured by Magdalena Studios would be reallyyy high on our list! The bride and groom said “I do” with their toes in the sand in front of a round floral arbor by Pentaflor Event & Flower Design and crystal clear ocean waves. The blushing bride donned a pretty two-piece dress while her bridesmaids stunned in unique maxis of various warm hues. What followed was a cocktail hour filled with decadent displays of coconuts, pineapples, a tiki bar, live music and a reception that is just too perfect to put into words. Welcome to wedding paradise!

From Magdalena Studios Searching for destination wedding inspiration from a couple who did it perfectly? Look no further than Claudia & Richard! This Tulum wedding was one for the books with no detail left behind! Stunning earthy greens and ocean blues surrounded the couple as they tied the knot on a white sand beach under a tropical arbor arch! After the “I do’s,” the newlyweds and their guests celebrated as the sun set to live music, with dinner tables designed to perfection and a choice of coconut or tiki bar (or both)! We want to relive this day over and over!

From the Bride… We met online while Claudia was living in NYC and Richard was living in Tulum, Mexico. Richard claimed on his profile that he spent “several months a year” living in NYC, which only became true AFTER they started long-distance dating. After weeks of e-mailing and one Skype date, Richard bought a ticket to New York for their first in-person date. The date went well, and they have been together ever since!

The family-owned wedding venue made everything extra special and personalized. We were very familiar with the space, personally know the wedding planner and many of the staff, and we were even able to have our beloved rescue pup Taco roam free during the event. The wedding was a blend of Mexican and American sensibilities and customs to honor our backgrounds, our guests, and the location. We chose a ‘natural luxury’ theme to let the beauty of the venue shine, the handblown glass, bejuco (wicker) decorative globes and hanging lamps, local copal incense, mezcal for toasting, menu, drinks, plate chargers, table decorations and foliage all made locally or from Mexico.

Midnight snack of empanadas in both Argentine and Mexican styles also nod to bride and groom’s backgrounds. Our favorite wedding moment was having our son Adrian be the ring bearer and walk down the aisle with Richard/groom’s former nanny Celia. Tips to other couples planning their day: Sending paper save-the-dates and invitations but having people RSVP online was a good mix of traditional and convenient. E-mailing guests a Google photos link for people to upload their casual shots was also a fun way to share images with everyone.

Colorful Maryland Winery Wedding at Rocklands Farm

If ever there were two Brides with the happiest of smiles and a kind of love that you can feel popping right out of your screen, it’s surely Lea & Becca. Their love is contagious and that’s completely apparent in every single snap from Luck & Love Photography. Hello, adorable first look! They’re sharing their story below, along with an abundance of details that made their day truly unique.

From Luck & Love PhotographyThe details of this day were beautiful! Becca’s details included a handkerchief with a custom stamp for Lea & Becca in the middle, her great-grandmother’s necklace, and a ring from her mother’s side of the family. Lea also had Keds that she & Becca had died themselves. Lea’s mom helped her get into her dress and helped put on her late grandmother’s necklace. Lea’s late grandmother and grandfather were married on exact same date as Lea & Becca would be married on. Lea’s dress was so beautiful, and the brides would discover later on that their lace actually matched – even though their dresses were so different!

Lea & Becca signed their Ketubah, surrounded by their family and friends. Lea’s dad spoke to the importance of the Ketubah, and the story of marriage. Once the rain had slowed, it was time for their ceremony! At the chuppah, Becca walked around Lea and then Lea walked around Becca. Lea’s father officiated the ceremony seeped in tradition. Lea & Becca had written their own vows. Becca talked about how the moment she met Lea, there was a spark that Lea ignited in her, and that Lea continued to light that spark every day. It was nerdy and beautiful, and started the waterworks for everyone present. Lea talked about how she had always imagined finding her “Rebecca” since she was a child – literally, when she had played the main love interest was always named Rebecca – and how glad she was she found her Rebecca in Becca. It really was a beautiful day filled with love, acceptance, and happiness!

Some words from both brides… Our favorite part was the ceremony itself. My (Lea) father was our Rabbi which was both intimate and inclusive at the same time. Rocklands Farm is such a naturally beautiful venue and the thoughtful decorations by our florists (Sungold Flower) and event team (Simply Fresh), plus the warmest host (Janis, the owner of Rocklands) made us feel so comfortable. We decided to exchange vows during our ceremony which turned out to be a real highlight for us–we loved having an opportunity to tell our feelings and vows to each other under our Chuppah (Jewish alter we stood under) and share that intimacy with our friends and family. Our ceremony was full of such love, inclusivity, laughter, and the happiest tears.

Our wedding style was definitely rustic-barn because of the space itself, which totally compliments us as a couple: we love the outdoors, animals, and abundant natural beauty, which Rocklands provided endless amounts of. Rocklands has the charm of a functioning farm with piglets and cows roaming the meadows behind our ceremony site, but also has a massive collection of decorations to accent different tables and spaces beautifully. Neither of us are crafty, creative, or artistic, but we outsourced to our Step Mother and our Grandmother hand stitched 95 kippot (Jewish caps) that were beautifully strung between two ladders at the entry of the ceremony site. We also included a picture of our photographer (Meg Lucks at Luck & Love Photography) with a note asking our guests to not use personal cameras or phones because Meg’s got us covered. And we also had a bin of toy instruments (clappers, maracas, and various whistles) and called them our “Recessional Beats” for our guests to help cheer us down the aisle after our ceremony. These little things helped make our wedding unique and fun!

Our advice to others: Be incredibly organized with your time and your planning. So much goes into planning a wedding between vendors, timing, and last minute changes, but it helps to be organized! The other piece of advice: this is [hopefully] the only wedding you will ever have. Take little moments with your new wife or husband to just look at your event. We took many 30 second moments to just look at our lives converging all to celebrate us. As everyone says, it flies by so quickly, so taking time to just step back and watch this group of people who will never again assemble in the exact same way. If things fall off schedule or fall through for whatever reason? Don’t worry about it. This will still be the best day of your life. Last piece of advice: if you can afford it, hire both a photographer and a videographer. We hired Luck & Love Photography and In Motion Video (Baltimore, MD) and both did an absolutely fabulous job. Our video is absolutely stunning and allows us and our families to relive the wedding. Our photographs are also so beautiful and captured the natural beauty of Rocklands Farm and our whole evening so perfectly. We would change a thing, it was perfect.

Vibrant Indian Wedding at Butterfly Lane Estate in Santa Barbara

I had to hold myself back from putting every single image in this gallery from Taryn Grey into a featured board. It is that beautiful my friends. Hannah & Zohair celebrated their love with family and friends in a seamless cultural fusion that sings with color and happiness. Event of the Season made that dream come true for this Bride & Groom with their planning and design genius. When you’re done scrolling some of the stunning highlights below, I urge you to cozy up right here for the rest!

From Event of the Season… Working with Hannah & Zohair on their wedding design was a really fun process. They met in the Funk Zone of Santa Barbara and envisioned a romantic, colorful, and classic Indian fusion wedding. The palette was composed of variations of deep saturated and vibrant pinks and reds with accents of rich orange, purple and navy with pops of gold. Guests were welcomed with a grand champagne tower display accented with colorful fruits and floral details. The ceremony featured a large mandala inspired design created with petals and floral garlands that went the full length of the aisle. At the end of the aisle were petite gold vessels filled with colorful blooms and petals. The arch was accented with one large offset floral piece, organic arrangments at the base of each side, and one of our favorite elements, colorful hanging tassels. The best parts of the ceremony were the appearance of the couples 3 pups, Simba, Rajah, and Johnny Walker Black, and performance by two of their closest friends. After the ceremony, the couple changed into traditional Indian attire. Cocktail hour on the terrace showcased a large full floral elephant, bringing in the symbol of Zohairs family heritage from India, that acted as the centerpiece for a beautiful charcuterie display. An illustration of the couple and their 3 pups, created by Chasing Linen, was available for guests to sign their special wishes. After the cocktail hour guests were invited to find their seats from a display of hanging floral garlands, drawing from the design of the ceremony arch. The reception was set with colorful lounge groupings, linen-draped tables, clusters of vibrant blooms and candles, and modern metallic pendants and lanterns strung overhead. All details were captured perfectly by Taryn Grey Photography.

A Picturesque Destination Wedding at The Rim Golf Club in Arizona

Black bridesmaid dresses, a breathtaking ceremony view and a romantic candlelit reception are just a few of our favorite things about this dreamy destination wedding at The Rim Gold Club. Sassy Soirees left no detail unturned when planning this day inspired by the beautiful mountains of Arizona. Sarah’s Garden created arrangements full of rich colors like bold reds, deep greens and a touch of soft pink! Don’t miss a moment at the full gallery captured by Rachel Solomon Photography!

From the Bride… In the fall of 2012, Jack and I met in Minneapolis, where we embarked on a two year graduate program at the University of Minnesota. Upon first meeting Jack, I was struck by his generosity and impacted by the selflessness he exhibits everyday and in each interaction. After close to two years of cherished friendship, Jack and I started dating. I was born and raised in Arizona and, despite leaving for the Midwest after high school, I had always known that I would return home to get married.

When Jack proposed in the fall of 2017, I was thrilled to learn that he shared in my excitement for planning a wedding inspired by the natural beauty of the mountains of Arizona. We knew we wanted an intimate gathering of our closest family and friends, and having a destination wedding allowed us to offer our guests the thrill of travel and adventure – something that brought us together as a couple. It was heartwarming and uplifting to watch our guest’s travels unfold, all centered around our wedding day at the The Rim Golf Club in Payson, Arizona.

We were fortunate to have a beautiful and sunny, yet crisp, late fall day for our wedding. We chose black and white attire and simple, classic gold decor to allow the breathtaking views of the Mogollon Rim to take center stage. The colors of the open-air backdrop were stunning alone, but we chose to accent Mother Nature’s beauty with rich colors in our details – including my “something blue”, a pair of brilliant blue M. Gemi bow adorned flats, and a palette of bold reds, soft pinks and deep greens throughout our floral design.

Our most treasured memories from our wedding day are the moments that were inspired by our love for our family and friends: connecting over a few holes of golf prior to the ceremony, toasting with the very same gold-rimmed champagne glasses that my parents used on their wedding day close to 30 years ago, and dancing with our guests to “Sweet Caroline” – a father/daughter tribute in honor of my late father. We gave our guests Rim Club wine glasses as favors and have since enjoyed reminiscing in the homes of our friends and family members who have served wine in these glasses that are so very special to us. Looking back on our day is now one of our favorite things to do together, and we can’t imagine a more perfect setting to celebrate our marriage. We were so fortunate to partner with a truly incredible and amazingly talented team of vendors who worked tirelessly and seamlessly to create a day we will never forget.

Seaside Malibu Wedding at The Adamson House

When I see the name Amorology pop up, I know I’m in for a gorgeous treat… everything they touch turns to pure wedding gold! Today’s fete is no exception and it so happens to be the wedding of fashion blogger, Maxie Elise, who made the most stunning Bride. Ashley Kelemen joined in on all the fun—lens in tow—leaving us lots and lots of pretty to look at.

From Amorology… College sweethearts Megan and Tyler’s love story began when she fell in love with his pants. The sleepy boy who sat near her in class was well-known for these pants, enough to warrant him a very special nickname. Puzzle Pants (aka Tyler) and Megan’s romance blossomed from their love of late nights, long mornings, and nap times, and we decided to weave this story into the concept of their wedding – Lovers & Dreamers.

Their wedding sat by the seaside at historic Adamson House in Malibu, CA where gentle waves lapped calmly at the banks of the shore. Dappled sunlight shone through the leaves of the Sycamore tree under which they wed as they said I Do, and guests sauntered into the courtyard area to be greeted by custom cocktails from Barcon – sip on a Suit & Ty or a Farmer’s Daughter (a nod to Tyler’s city boy background and Megan growing up on a farm) as you watch the clouds roll by. Their lovers and dreamers were then led to their seats by a sleep mask customized with their names and table assignments. We alternated between wood tables and rounds draped in gilded gold linens from La Tavola. Wood tables were set with simple linen plates upon wooden chargers, with rose gold flatware, indigo edged-napkins, and classic cut crystal glassware, while rounds got simple linen chargers and pink sky napkins. We used velvet ribbons on the plates to add another pop of color in there with small sprigs of berries brought in by Olive Willow to complement the lush florals that crowned each table.

After warming up on the dance floor, guests were invited to enjoy “the rest” – i.e. a scrumptious spread of delicious goodies brought in by Hey There Cupcake. Guests continued to dance through the evening under the night sky and breezy palm trees to end a day that was altogether very Cali-cool, calm, and collected.

Timeless and Ethereal Wedding Inspiration at The Walper Hotel

Modern minimalism mixed with romantic touches of elegance and ethereal décor – at first, it’s hard to imagine how this design combination would look… but after seeing this shoot from Rainbow Chan Weddings & Events… we are completely in love. Top it all off with the dreamiest neutral palette and heavenly blooms by Sweet Woodruff and there you have it – the perfect recipe for a modern yet timeless wedding. Don’t miss out on all the fairytale-worthy details of this shoot captured by Artiese Studios at the full gallery!

From Rainbow Chan Weddings & EventsOur shoot at the Walper Hotel in Kitchener, Ontario combined modern minimalism with fairytale worthy décor elements to create a timeless, ethereal aesthetic. This hotel is truly unique – it encapsulates the charming “small town” feel of Kitchener with its traditional architecture dating back to 1893. However, the décor and style of the hotel isn’t what you’d expect from a century old building.

There is a distinctly midcentury modern feel to it – very minimalistic with clean lines and pops of colour. The finishes are extremely on-trend and updated. The mix of the classical architecture and ultra-modern finishes gives this venue a timeless feel – like it would fit seamlessly into more than one era.

The beautiful floral design by Sweet Woodruff takes the greenery-heavy trend to an extreme. The incredible arch is made entirely of wild greens is definitely non-traditional, but the organic, lush styling makes it feel whimsical and fairytale-esque. The white walls and mid-tone floors make this look feel entirely timeless. The gown from Blushing Bridal, bridal cape from Noon on the Moon and bouquet tie in seamlessly. Clean lines and versatile, minimalistic design mean that this look could work in any space and any era.

The tablescape uses the same neutral tones and classic design, but incorporates some trendy elements like the two-tone flatware, knotted napkins and crystal chairs. The blush accents add a romantic and ethereal feel, which tie this tablescape into the theme. The cake display encapsulates this whole theme – clean lines with a pop of ethereal romanticism. We love creating romantic, beautiful looks that give a nod to tradition but feel up to date and cutting edge. The Walper Hotel provided a perfect backdrop for this aesthetic.

A Tropical Destination Wedding at The Cove Eleuthera

Grab your sunhat and sandals cause today we’re jetting off to the white sands and crystal clear waters of the Bahamas with Simply Sarah Photography! This stunning tropical fête planned by Boy Meets Girl Weddings is a beach lover’s dream. Guests dined in paradise under palms trees and cafe lights at the most picture perfect reception locale of all time. If anyone needs us, we’ll just be over living vicariously through these stunning wedding photos for the rest of the day…

From the bride… Josh and I met at Tishman Speyer (where we both still work) in the summer of 2012 while I was interning. We would often see each other at Equinox and became friends. Throughout my senior year of college, Josh would randomly check in to see how I was doing. I started working at Tishman a week after graduation. A few happy hours and nights out later, our friendship turned into something more. While there is nothing wrong with a traditional wedding, I knew it was not what I wanted for Josh and I.

I loved the idea of bringing our closest family and friends together for a full weekend, but wanted to do it somewhere that was intimate and small, an oasis. After finding The Cove in Eleuthera, I knew that would be the place. For our rehearsal dinner, I drew my inspiration from a beach club in Mykonos that was very Boho chic yet cool and relaxed. Mish, our event designer, nailed it in every way. For the wedding reception, I wanted to create an insanely fun atmosphere that was a cross between the most epic house party with friends and a night out in Ibiza. To say it was the best night of our lives is a total understatement.

Photography is a very intimate aspect of a wedding and we were so lucky to have had Sarah and Will there to capture our love and the best weekend of our lives. Everyone who knows me will grow tired of hearing me sing Simply Sarah Photography’s praises. Is she that good? YES, her incredible talent truly warrants this type of admiration. Aside from Sarah’s mind-blowing abilities behind the camera, she is the most kind-hearted, interesting and wonderful person. Sarah has a gift for understanding that she is not just taking photos, but capturing the soul and emotion of a moment, one you will look back on and cherish for the rest of your life.

If you’ve seen Sarah’s photography you will understand that she does not need a review. Simply, her work speaks for itself. Sarah and her amazing husband Will showed up early to our wedding weekend to scout and plan ingenious opportunities to shoot us in breathtaking, off-the-beaten-path locations. The two worked fervently and brought a fresh perspective to shooting our celebratory weekend. Every moment spent with Sarah and Will was serene and gave us an opportunity to reflect on the momentous occasion.

Modern Wedding at Mission San Juan Capistrano + Marbella Country Club

I’ve seen bridesmaids in many a hue, but today’s mauve ‘maids might be my favorite as of late. Woven with blush, peach and ivory bouquets, this beautiful Bride is surrounded by a melody of the prettiest pink palette. Natalie Bray captured ever color, every detail, every smile and kiss to perfection. See it all here, and do not miss the sweetest writeup from the Groom below.

The grooms description of his bride… She is the most genuinely good person I’ve ever met. Her heart is so pure, and she takes such good care of the people she loves. She is also the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen. She disagrees when I say she’s perfect, but I truly think she is. She’s also such a strong, independent, and energetic person. She works hard all day and always finds the energy to work out, cook, and look after herself and me. Before I met Allison, I wondered what my purpose in life was. Now I know. Being her husband and taking care of her for the rest of my life is the most fulfilling, meaningful thing that I could ever do.

From Natalie BrayI just adored these two and they had a lot of beautiful details to go along with their glowing love. Allison chose a stunning 2 piece gown from Robert Bullock that it her perfectly. One of her favorite accessories was her something borrowed, a diamond studded antique bracelet passed down in the family. Her look was completed with colorful florals from Wild Muse.

The couple chose to a more traditional route and have ceremony in church they loved and had portraits on the historic grounds afterwards. The reception was more fun and lively with a surprise serenade from Jack to his new Wife. Everyone was in awe and their love was electric. As guests entered the reception and took their seats, Allison and Jack wrote personalized notes to each and every guest as their place card for celebrating with them. It was very sweet watching everyone read them. It definitely meant a lot. The four tier cake was a showstopper with gorgeous florals cascading perfectly.

If I had to list a top ten for best scenery around, Malibu Rocky Oaks would surely make the cut. Can you really beat a view like this? It was the perfect setting for this duo, who said their intimate I dos with their very closest loved ones. Love & You Studios also received an invite, to capture it all. Cozy up, right here.

From Love & You StudiosOur beautiful couple had a very small and intimate wedding celebration with only their immediate families. It was a very special family gathering, a day filled with so much love and happiness, great food and lots of dancing. The whole wedding design was absolutely stunning and reminded us of a summer night in Tuscany. The ceremony florals had lots of elevated whites incorporated in the design that looked amazing with the natural backdrop of Malibu Hills. One of our favorites was the brides bouquet that was loaded with peonies, mock orange, olive, and white tweedia. The main reception table had a modern garden table setting with some very unique details such as velvet napkins and hand marbled menus in acrylic frames.

Elegant Garden Wedding in San Diego at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe

I’m quite certain that any fete that starts off like this and ends like this is a wedding win. All the hands up emojis! Everything in between is pure inspiration gold my friends, thanks to Before I Do Events, Carmen Santorelli and the entire vendor team. Get your pinning on right this way babes!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/309779145 600 338]

From the Bride… Richard and I met 8 years ago during college in San Diego. We were in a few of the same classes but were always too nervous to say hi. We finally met at a dance for my sorority and the rest was history. A little over a year ago while on vacation, Rich popped the question! Being someone who secretly loves to organize and plan, I was ready to dive into finally getting to plan OUR wedding!

We started our planning by finding the perfect location – that was easy. We chose San Diego because it’s where we met and fell in love. It’s a special place to both of us. I’m also lucky enough to have grown up in San Diego.

As we started looking at venues, we knew we wanted a place where we could be outdoors and also create a weekend getaway for our guests. We stumbled upon the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. Since Rich and I were living in Los Angeles at the time, my mom stepped in and offered to visit the venue for us. As she was driving home she immediately called and said “We had to get down for a visit as soon as possible!” We did and from the moment we stepped onto the Inn’s property we were immediately overwhelmed by its beauty. From the sprawling green lawns, to the lush gardens and trees your breath is taken away. After one visit, we knew it was the perfect place.

After booking our venue, we had to put together an amazing team of vendors to help us pull off our dream wedding. In addition to finding vendors we absolutely loved, I felt it was important that they had previously worked together. There is so much planning and coordination that they each do, I felt having experience working together would make the day of that much easier.

We knew we wanted to focus on the design, florals, photography, and videography. We were recommended to Alicia at Before I Do Events. During our first call, we instantly connected and I felt that she truly understood the style and feeling we wanted to achieve – a garden party with a classic and timeless feel. Alicia was a huge help in providing us with amazing vendor recommendations, bouncing design ideas off of and guiding us throughout the entire planning process. She also made sure that our wedding day went off without a hitch.

For the ceremony and reception we wanted it to feel light, airy and effortless while highlighting the beauty of the venue. We decided on a neutral color palette, touches of antique brass and tons of candlelight on the tables to create a timeless and romantic feeling during the reception. Hannah from Modern Bouquet perfectly captured our vision. From our gorgeous bouquets to the lush and sprawling arrangements, Hannah truly outdid herself.

Rich and I knew that the day would pass in the blink of an eye. Knowing this, it was important for us to work with an amazing photographer and videographer. When we found Carmen Santorelli we were just in awe of her work. Looking through her photographs, she is able to capture so much emotion while emitting a soft, romantic and dreamy feeling. Her work perfectly aligned with the aesthetic we wanted.

Having a videographer was one of my must haves. I found Audrey Alba Films and loved what I saw. In every video I watched, they were able to capture so many of the special moments that happen throughout the day. Being able to watch and listen to our ceremony, my dad’s speech and see our first dance is something I’ll always treasure.

We really tried to make sure that everything was thought out and personal to us. One of the most memorable moments was asking my little brother Ryan be our officiant. It was important to us that we chose someone who knew us both as individuals and also as a couple – Ryan does. At first he was nervous but in the end he did such a great job! His ceremony speech was filled with heartfelt stories and memories that really highlighted our relationship and the love Rich and I have for each other.

You really can’t put into words how much excitement, love and happiness you’ll truly feel on your wedding day. All the time you’ve spent planning and thinking of every little detail is done. You’re able to relax and enjoy the day with your closest family and friends. Rich and I made it a point to stop and appreciate every moment throughout our experience. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.

Magical Winter Wedding Inspiration at Foster Creek Farm in Big Sky

Attention all winter brides – this one’s for you! Today’s inspiration shoot captured by Larissa Cleveland Photography with design from Habitat Events is bringing so much life to winter in Big Sky. Habitat Floral Studio’s arrangements took the warmth of a winter sunset and turned all those cozy, romantic feelings into a bouquet. This shoot is complete with an intimate bonfire, a reception dripping in candlelight and a surprise visit from a four-legged friend! See all the magic unfold below…

From Larissa Cleveland PhotographyWhen the evenings start to turn dark a little earlier and the weather begins to hover around the freezing mark we start to crave everything cozy: soft furs, intimate fireside dinners, and loads of candlelight. Most couples opt for an indoor ceremony with a slope-side feel during the winter months but there is something magical and unconventional about setting a cozy prairie scene under the winter sky.

The prairie landscape lends so much inspiration with it’s range of brown and caramel hues, providing a prefect warm backdrop complete with tufts of grasses peeking out from the snow. We wanted to play off this neutral palette and bring in complimentary tones with just a hint of the deeper almost black hues you see in the landscape this time of year; some might consider these elements stark but to us it is what makes this time of year special.

The design inspiration is pulled directly from the landscape. From the hand sketched invitations, the Montana inspired water colored sugar cookies in the welcome gifts, to the natural earthy grasses and branchy pods used in the floral pieces; we wanted all roads to lead back to the open sky and a Montana wintery scape. Early winter sunsets are perfect for a ceremony glowing with candlelight as the sun falls behind the hills.

To enhance the setting, piles of Mongolian sheep furs and cozy blankets accented the rustic wood benches. We used impactful blooms combined with textural woody stems, like magnolia branches, to really take the landscape outside and pull those elements into the florals.

The reception space was nestled up to a beautiful fireplace, perfect for an intimate meal. The tablescape combines delicate elements such as hand-died silk napkins with textural pieces like the leather place cards and aged pewter chargers to create that sweet spot where the soft and rustic mingle together. That same inspiration carried over to other elements such as the cake, which had a subtle embossed feel similar to the snowy hills surrounding the reception barn. And, of course, no Montana evening would be complete without cocktails by a bonfire!

Expert Decorating Tips for Your Lunar New Year Dinner Party

It’s the beginning of a new year on the Chinese calendar and we’re celebrating with our friends Joy Proctor, Carlos Hernandez and Heather from Myrtle et Olive! If you’re getting together with your loved ones tonight to celebrate the holiday, read on to find out a few tips from the expert herself, Joy Proctor Design, on decorating your table with meaningful decor moments that are perfect for Lunar New Year – from citrus fruits to bright hues that symbolize luck and happiness. Last but not least, don’t miss her recipe for Longevity Noodles that you have to try out!

[iframe https://www.youtube.com/embed/q4ymNnuhU8w 600 338]

From Joy Proctor Design2019. Year of the pig. I invited some close friends to my home in Portland in celebration the lunar new year; a time to sweep away the difficulties of the past and make way for luck, happiness and longevity. I set the table with China and crystal from my cabinet, citrus to symbolize luck and beautiful menus and place cards by Steady Hands Creative. My good friend Heather of Myrtle et Olive arranged beautiful flowers for the table in colors corresponding to luck and happiness. My sister Elise assisted her boyfriend Andy, an incredible chef, in preparation of a lucky menu for our guests, each dish symbolizing a wish for the new year. Dumplings for wealth. Noodles for long life. Fish for a surplus of food, and sweet sticky rice balls to symbolize the togetherness of family. I invite you to celebrate life, luck and happiness in a celebration of your own using my recipes and tips for decor. From my home to yours, Happy New Year!

Decor tips from Joy Proctor Design:

1. For the table, choose a neutral linen so that the bright lucky colors pop. In Chinese culture candles are used for the dead, so don’t use any candles on the table as it will not bring good luck. Add fruit and citrus to the flowers and decor. Overflowing bowls of citrus symbolize luck. Break out your best crystal and neutral China to set place seatings. Rest wooden chopsticks on citrus fruits for added detail.

2. Remember that colors symbolize many things and shades of red, pink, purple and orange are more lucky. Avoid white, black and dark colors as dark colors are associated with death.

3. Don’t forget envelopes of money for good luck. These envelopes are often red or gold and traditionally list the families name on the outside. Heathers maiden name was on our envelopes which we used as beautiful favors.

4. Invite guests to get into the spirit by offering them hand embroidered fans to accessorize. The fans by Luneville were exquisite and added a conversation topic the history of embroidery which began in China and made its way to Europe much later.

5. Offer guests delicate sweets to take home like the gorgeous year of the pig and florals cookies made by Cake by Nicole.

6. Choose and use China that have patterns with meaning. The pieces we chose had the following meaning: Bird Crane present in Fans & Vases – Longevity. The pattern on gourd bottle – blessings & longevity. Floral & Bird Plate – Full Harvest.

Longevity Noodles Recipe

What you’ll need:

  • 12 oz fresh thin, long noodles (chow mein or low mein. Tagliarini works really well too, but way less traditional)
  • 3-4 T sesame oil (to coat cooked noodles)
  • 1/4 c sesame oil (for cooking)
  • 6 oz dried mushrooms (shitake, maitake, or whatever sounds good)
  • 4 c water
  • 1/2 c cornstarch
  • 1/2 c fresh ginger, small dice
  • 1/4 c garlic, chopped fine
  • 1 bunch  scallions, thinly sliced on a bias, keep the whites and greens seperate
  • 1 1/2 t white pepper, ground fine
  • 1 T mushroom powder
  • 3/4 c shaoxing cooking wine
  • 1 c carrots, peeled and cut matchstick style
  • 2 c snap peas, cleaned and de-stringed
  • 4 c chicken and/or seafood stock
  • 3 T soy sauce
  • Black+White sesame seeds and Togarashi to garnish

To Cook The Noodles:

1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil.
2. Add fresh noodles and cook for 3-4 minutes (5-6 minutes if dried)
3. Strain the noodles and rinse them with cold water. Put them in a bowl, toss them with the 3-4 T sesame oil. Set aside

Mushrooms:

1. Put dried mushrooms in a small pot with the water. Bring them to a boil, then turn off the heat and let them steep until they’re tender.
2. Strain the mushrooms. Save the water! Put aside 2 c of that mushroom water in a small bowl. Slowly whisk in the cornstarch to make a loose paste. Set aside.
3. Slice the mushrooms. Set aside.

To Finish:

1. In a large saute pan or wok, heat up the 1/4 c sesame oil on high heat.
2. Cook the shrimp for 2-3 min. Remove them and set aside.
3. Add the carrots and ginger to the shrimp oil and cook for 4-5 min, constantly stirring.
4. Add the whites of the scallion and cook for another 2 min. Then add the garlic and cook for 2 more minutes.
5. Add the snap peas and sliced mushrooms, cook for 3 minutes.
6. Season with white pepper and mushroom powder.
7. Add cooking wine and cook just until the smell of alcohol is gone from the pan
8. Add stock and soy sauce, and bring to a simmer.
9. Once its at a simmer, stir in a small amount of the mushroom broth/cornstarch mixture ****If it sits, the cornstarch settles at the bottom, so it needs to be mixed up again before adding it.**
10. Adding that mixture will thicken up the sauce more, so depending on the consistency you’re going for, you may want to use more or less.
11. Add your noodles, make sure they’re hot, toss them with everything else and ready to serve.
12. Garnish with sesame seed, togarashi and the green tops of the scallions

Classic Fall Wedding at Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands, North Carolina

If you’re stuck on where to start with the design of your Big Day, I always recommend pulling inspiration from your venue. Always, always. You chose your venue for a reason; whether it be on the water, for it’s clean whitewashed walls, for it’s Southern charm, for it’s stunning scenery, vineyards, architecture… the list goes on. Start there and I promise, you will be able to craft a day that is truly yours. Today’s fete, planned and designed by Lacy Geary is just that for Stacie and Phil—truly theirs. Take a peek through the full gallery from Laura Gordon to see exactly why we couldn’t wait to share this one with you today.

From Lacy Geary… When Stacie and Phil reached out to me they were very clear on the direction they wanted their wedding to take. They were both busy professionals and wanted their wedding day to be elegant and intimate while fitting in with the location but also to be fun and upbeat. We created a design direction that tied into the environment without being overdone and that mimicked the colors of the venue and time of year in the mountains.

They were married between the two apple trees in the garden at Old Edwards Inn. The florals and seating were low to the ground and as minimal as possible so that the backdrop of the tress was the visual impact. We carried the apple blossoms over to their invitations as well as into the escort display at cocktail hour.

Kelly Lenard brought in beautiful florals that tied in the color story we created of various neutral shades of ivories, taupes, dusty rose and an accent color of the richer burgundy. The large iron chandeliers that grace the ceiling of the reception space were covered in greenery to bring the outside in and soften the space without invading the architecture that Stacie & Phil were so in love with. Each element was carefully curated and represented the evening that Stacie & Phil had envisioned.

Oh California, you slay me. Does it really get any more perfect than scenes like this and that golden light? While you might want to frantically scroll to the credits to find this stunning ‘venue’, you won’t find it. This fete was held at the Bride’s parents’ home and not to mention, all planned in just a few months. The lovely images by Kristine Herman will captivate you—and there are so many more in the full gallery.

From Kristine HermanOn a sunny day in Atherton, California, Oracle’s CEO Mark Hurd and wife Paula hosted the wedding of their daughter, Kelly to Tommy Umberg, son of Tom Umberg, currently running for State Senate this fall. Surrounded by friends, family, and some of California’s elite including Senator Barbara Boxer and Oracle’s cofounder Larry Ellison, Kelly and Tommy welcomed guests to a classic and timeless evening, complete with a private performance by the couple’s favorite band, Lord Huron.

Planned, designed, and coordinated by Hartmann Studios, the Hurds’ backyard was adorned with greenery and white florals, candles, garden lights, and several bar and lounge areas including an exclusively whiskey bar and the bride’s signature cocktail, a Moscow Mule. Guests feasted on a five star dinner, a dessert bar, and smores, while enjoying not one, but two live band performances west of the pool and lounge area. Outdoor Malibu Wedding at Saddlerock Ranch + Day After Beach Shoot

After viewing this beautiful wedding gallery from Koman Photography, I was left with a feeling of complete happiness. That’s usually the case with any fete The Komans send our way, but this one? This one warmed my soul a little more. It might be the California sun, the undeniable love between these two, every thoughtful detail planned by Bliss Productions, or, all of the above—join in on all the beauty right this way.

From the Bride… The most important factors for us in planning our wedding were our family and friends. We have been living in Chicago for the past 5 years, but both grew up in California with very large, tight-knit families and many mutual friends. So, it was ideal for us to get married in California in a beautiful, organic space that could accommodate our many guests.

Planning a large-scale wedding for nearly 300 guests while living out of state (and keeping our sanity) was really made possible thanks to our fantastic coordinators from Bliss Productions and the countless vendors who worked so passionately to create such an incredible day for us. Our coordinators, Lindsay and Katie, did a phenomenal job getting to know us, bringing all of our ideas to life, and creating an absolutely spectacular day for us. They ensured every element of our wedding was a reflection of us. We had a signature drink menu that paid homage to our love of whiskey and personalized cocktail names that gave nods to Ryan’s alma mater (The University of Michigan – Go Blue!), our Disney marathon team name (Shipwreck), and our beloved pup (Zoe). We also brought in some of our favorite snacks like California specialties (In-n-Out and Bottega Louie) and Chicago’s finest popcorn (Garrett’s Popcorn).

We were also extremely fortunate to have Koman Photography capture so many meaningful moments throughout our wedding day, in addition to our post-wedding shoot. Knowing we had the post-wedding shoot relieved some of the pressure and time constraints that come with an already very eventful day. We spent less than an hour shooting pictures during the event, allowing us to spend as much time as possible with our guests and enjoy the moment fully. When it came time for our post-wedding shoot, we felt so much more at ease and relaxed since it was just us. It really ended up being a lot of fun, and we think the photos and video definitely convey that!

Additionally, since we were so torn between having our wedding on the beach and having it at Saddlerock ranch, the post-wedding shoot allowed us an amazing opportunity to capture and enjoy all of the beauty of Malibu’s oceanside scenery we love so much. Plus, it gave us a good excuse to put on our wedding attire again! We really give Koman Photography so much credit for all of their creative talents and ability to capture these absolutely breathtaking moments for us. They were absolutely brilliant, and we truly couldn’t be happier! Looking back on our photos and videos brings the biggest smiles to our faces and we are overwhelmed with the most wonderful feelings of nostalgia. We will surely cherish these memories indefinitely!

It was important to us to share this special moment with as many friends and relatives as we could, hoping to throw an epically fun party for everyone to celebrate together. We can’t say enough wonderful things about each member of the “team” who helped bring our ideas to life, and to our family and friends who truly filled the day with tremendous amounts of love and support. We are completely overjoyed!

Stunning French Blue Wedding Inspiration at Château de Carsix

Whenever a few of our favorite vendors come together, we’re always awe-struck by the inspiring designs and sheer magic they create! Today’s gorgeous shoot with styling by Joy Proctor for Kayla Barker Photography’s workshop is every francophile’s wedding heaven. From the garden floral arrangements by Bows and Arrows to the stunninggg puff sleeve gown from Yolan Cris Haute Couture! Oh, and did we mention the cutest flowers girls of all time? Yup. We’re beyond obsessed.

From Joy Proctor Design It was such an honor to design Kayla Barker‘s workshop in the Normandy region of France. The inspiration for my design was the incredible location of Chateau de Carsix.

The expansive gardens and incredible chateau were the most inspiring backdrop on which to design. As a nod to the country’s history, I chose a French Blue as the base color, playing with creme, taupe and peach tones (reminiscent of the brick exterior) for the color palette.

We watched as the bride got ready in custom Madeline Fig lingerie. Escorted by her two nieces, donning matching lace and tulle gowns, the bride chose flowers from the garden for her bouquet. The ceremony held on the front drive, with two beautiful arches of flowers growing around the place where vows were exchanged.

Dinner was held in the grand ballroom, with a long table covered in a soft blue linen. White porcelain, mother of pearl flatware and napkins with the menu printed on them in calligraphy were highlights of the look. Guests were gifted with favors of tea following the wedding, wishing them a beautiful evening.

Registration is open for Kayla’s next workshop – be sure to secure a spot before they’re all gone! Check out this gorgeous video by Ale Vidal to get a behind the scenes look at this heavenly day.

Organic Romance at Kestrel Park in Mauve, Rust and Burgundy Hues

Today’s gorgeous bride and groom had the most rom-com worthy meet-cute ever… they met waiting in line at the airport (!!), kept in touch ever since, and the rest is.. as they say, history! Their wedding at Kestrel Park, planned by Event of the Season and captured by Katie Shuler Photography, was just as gorgeous as the two of them of course! With a romantic color scheme of mauve, rust and burgundy and floral by Camellia Floral Design – you know it’s going to be a winner.

From Event of the SeasonKC & Jordan’s love for one another was overwhelmingly apparent from the day we met them. They truly had an admiration and appreciation for one another, and their families, that we’ve never seen before. They love to travel, dance, and just really embrace each moment in life. They met by chance in an airport line, and after staying in touch over the years finally ended up together at the perfect time.

They chose Kestrel Park to celebrate their marriage for the unique, romantic grounds and lush gardens. To draw from the venues natural character in the in the fall we chose a palette of earth tones paired with rich mauves, rusts, and burgundy, accented with organic foliage and dark wood details.

Staying eco-friendly and organic was important to the couple. Lucky for us, the bride has a natural talent for ceramics and handcrafted pieces of pottery with the couple’s initials carved on the bottom for each guest to take home with them. The cocktail hour featured a wine tasting with the couples favorite varieties from Refugio Ranch Vineyards wines. The reception space was set under an open-air tent with lush draping and romantic pendants. Making the event more personal, each table was named after one of the couples favorite national parks and included an illustration of the parks focal point. The stunning wedding cake, which the couple sabred, featured poppy sugar flowers and fondant details drawing from those on the bride’s dress.

The night ended with an epic dance party and champagne toast with mini fried chicken sandwiches, a tradition for the bride and groom. Everything was captured perfectly by Katie Shuler. The day would have not been possible without the help of the unbelievably talented vendors who came together to bring KC & Jordan’s vision to life!
