Rustic + Modern Oregon Lake Wedding

We often think of rustic design having an antique vibe but this couple embraced the opposite, infusing their wedding with modernity and a ton of personality. From creating all of their own paper items to the bicycle spokes escort card display, their wedding was beautifully theirs. Maria Lamb created this gallery of goodies and don’t miss Moving Pictures film below – the first few minutes alone will have you hooked.

From the Bride… Though we were both born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area, we’ve fallen victim to Portland’s siren song. It’s become a very special place for us, which is why we chose to say our vows at Bridal Veil Lakes – a surreal, breathtaking outdoor venue a few miles west of Multnomah Falls. Picture a magical landscape that can only be described as Lord of the Rings meets the forest moon of Endor. Despite a downpour the day before, we were blessed with a sunny afternoon and a warm evening for the big day.

We both come from a design background, so it was really important for us to have our wedding reflect our personal style. To make sure we got exactly what we were looking for, we handled everything we possibly could, from seeking out unique vendors and music, to designing all of our own print collateral, even creating tile table numbers with custom typography. Our theme was natural organic beauty infused with pops of modern design.

In a short but happily tearful ceremony, conducted by a lovely ordained lady we serendipitously met while doing a tasting at Pacific Pie Co., we said “I do” under an arch of hops and succulents. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail hour, where our guests were serenaded by the Portland-based trio Boy & Bean. After guests picked their escort cards off a set of bicycle spokes, we all chowed down on classic Portland food trucks Koi Fusion and Rip City Grill. I still marvel that they were able to maneuver up the tiny winding road to the venue.

We skipped the cake and instead opted for an array of our favorite desserts (pie, donuts, candy, and macarons) set to a backdrop of an insanely awesome hand-painted sign we had made in San Francisco.

The entire reception was held under the stars (and some twinkling lights strung up amidst the trees), complete with an open-air dance floor, and a lounge we set up with a mix of antique, rustic, and mid-century furnishings. Our planner Shauna made sure everything ran smoothly from set-up to tear-down.

We both agree that our favorite moment of the day was when we had a moment of privacy as the sun set, rowing on the lake in a canoe, while Chet Atkins “Jitterbug Waltz” carried over the water.

Colorful Portland Oregon Rooftop Brunch Inspiration

Brunch is – without a doubt – my favorite weekend activity, so it comes as no surprise this colorful rooftop celebration is my cup of tea. Bridal Bliss crafted a day saturated with lush blooms and bright hues, complimented with beautiful bite-sized treats. Soak in every sunny moment in the gallery here!

From Bridal BlissWe selected a brunch theme as the city of Portland is is very well known for their brunches. With patrons waiting in line for hours, we decided to skip the lines and bring a delicious brunch menu and atmosphere to a new venue in town. Washington High School, set to open it’s doors Spring of 2015, has an incredible roof top deck with a stunning view of Portland.

When planning the brunch we wanted to create a clean but festive feel with vibrant spring colors. Spring is a wonderful time of year in Portland and we wanted to capture the freshness and bring it to life. From personal mini cakes to crossword puzzles, we adorned the table with fun details wedding guests would enjoy.

From A Lovely Day… As a fun team of photographers, we loved the inspiration of a colorful brunch wedding. We wanted the photos to embody the same feeling as the best brunch you’ve ever had. Joyful, bright and happy, a brunch wedding on a rooftop deck brings smiles. We loved using a macro lens to capture the tiniest of details and we even braved a ladder on a roof for some great wide-angle images that truly showcase the magnificence of the venue. We loved the bright pops of pinks, blues and patterns and had a great time documenting all the thoughtful details.

From Zest Floral… When we think of a brunch wedding, we think of unique details combined with informal ambiance. For the flowers, our inspiration was to create a fresh and chic design that featured a splash of fun color, whimsical greenery and read wedding without looking like a typical wedding tablescape. We combined fluffy garden roses, roses, spray roses and hydrangeas with lush greenery and dainty ferns to create a full runner of fresh flowers cascading down both ends of the table. To blend the outdoor elegance with the laid back charm of the brunch theme; we used a floral color palette ranging from cream to blush and pops of vibrant pink. When accentuated by the beauty-filled view from Washington High School’s rooftop deck, the entire tablescape was simply stunning.

From Pearl Catering… At Pearl Catering we love serving fresh, local, fun bite size food. We loved the idea of a brunch inspired wedding since that is what Portland is known for. We deconstructed the already popular Chicken and Waffles and made them into bit size pieces – easy to eat at your table or walking around while mingling with your guests. Pancakes always give you the feeling of being at home with your family on a Sunday morning. We made bite size pieces so guests could still have a sense of a relaxed morning with family while enjoying a classy, formal lunch. The beautiful colors of black, red, and green inside the fruit shot help tie all the colors together.

Elegant + Intimate Oregon Winery Wedding

I’ve only been to the Northwest region once, but with our two Altura Studio gems today, I’m feeling the need for another visit soon. This couple decided on an intimate event, a ceremony followed by an al fresco dinner with their closest friends and family, with a larger party at a later date, and the final results are bursting with the vineyard’s natural beauty. This is what dreams are made of m’dears.

From Altura Studio… Paul and Dana chose to separate their wedding and reception over two weekends this summer. That way they could enjoy the best of both celebrations. An intimate and elegant wedding and dinner with their closest family and friends. Then later, a big garden party with scores of guests from all corners of their lives together.

The afternoon at Vista Hills Vineyard was a perfect bluebird day. Dana was pure poise and elegance, while Paul channeled complete happiness. It was such a pleasure to photograph them together as they floated through this golden day. The couple said their vows within a circle of tall trees as the sun lowered on the horizon. And then after cocktails on the tasting room terrace, the guests sat down to a celebratory meal on the lower terrace. To me, it seemed a most elegant and meaningful way to celebrate a wedding. Dana’s father charmed everyone with his toasts – look for the delightful photo of the two Mom’s sharing a moment during his speech.

Late Summer Wedding at The Aerie at Eagle Landing

Late summer has a special sort of allure, a romantic glow about it and this Bride right here used that beauty as inspiration for her Big Day. Altura Studio snapped every second and every sherbet shade, from the bridesmaids’ peachy dresses to these bouquets that have me dreaming of sunny days ahead. See all the summer love right here!

From Theresa Valls of Altura Studio…. Nothing feels cooler than sherbet shades in the warm days of August. Looking back over Erin and John’s summer wedding, I can’t help but think of an ice cream shop – all those yummy colors lined up for the choosing.

Erin chose ivory lace for her strapless gown and her bridesmaids wore a peachy apricot. The bridesmaids’ dresses echoed the ruched strapless bodice of Erin’s dress, but with a flowing chiffon shirt. The dresses were terrifically flattering for all the girls varying heights and shapes, and they all seemed comfortable all day long.

Her groom John wore a three-piece cotton suit, while the groomsmen donned just the vest and pants. It was an easygoing but dressed-up look for the guys. And comfortable, too, since August in the Pacific Northwest can be hot for a man in a suit.

Erin’s bouquet included dahlias in soft pinks through cream, English roses, delicate ranunculus, and tiny blue forget-me-nots. John’s boutonniere consisted of a simple white rosebud, accented with a single hydrangea blossom and a sprig of grey lambs ear. The already-pretty gazebo required just a simple spray-style arrangement of seasonal flowers. Erin choose single-color stems of white and blue hydrangea for the outdoor tables. For the ballroom tables, she had simply arranged beautiful seasonal dahlias and grey-green lambs ears in vintage mason jars. Handmaid heart-shaped table numbers elevated the look to suit the all-white tabletops.

When I asked the bride, Erin about her inspiration for her wedding day, she said this, “We were inspired by classic themes accompanied by natural beauty. This is why we chose the breathtaking setting of The Aerie. We had hoped for a beautiful summer day surrounded by beauty, family, and love. We wanted to spend the day celebrating our love for one another surrounded by those who love and care about us.”

Oregon Coast Seaglass Wedding Inspiration

Inspired by the muted color palette of the seaglass dotted along the Oregon shore, this wedding inspiration shoot is as soft and dreamy as you can possibly imagine. With a stunning hand-dyed ombre veil, to-die-for backless gown, and a rustically romantic driftwood centerpiece, this gallery from Lexia Frank is sure to inspire aspiring sea goddesses and Brides-to-be alike.

From Lexia Frank PhotographySince moving to the Oregon coast, I’ve been inspired by the landscape of this incredible state. I’m also thoroughly in love with weddings that are deeply rooted in the space in which they transpire—taking elements from the space, and therefore keeping the event cohesive and tied to the location.

For this shoot, I dip-dyed silk in natural plant-based indigo as I wanted a very watery feel. Other items that were dip dyed were the veil, the taper candles, and the ribbon.

Jenny Sanders of Graceline created the most beautiful hand written menus, escort cards and vows I have ever witnessed, and we embellished them with bits of sea glass found on the coast.

The centerpiece to the table was a true piece of aged driftwood found on the beach, with holes drilled for candles.

I wanted to create a piece of work that demonstrates how you can utilize the surroundings of a “venue,” at almost no cost, to create a lovely space for your event. With a little effort in foraging, beautiful things can happen!

From the beautiful Bride… Andy and I met in college among good friends and at a perfect time. I was a Freshman; he was a Sophomore, and thus we experienced many of the ups and downs of our early twenties together- growing up, making choices, and learning what it meant to live with and without each other. Our journey has been adventurous, time-tested, and very real; so naturally, when it came to planning our wedding some nine years later, we knew that sentimental details and meaningful memories were a must to shape our big day!

As we began our planning journey, I, like many brides, wanted to create a wedding unlike any other, but was immediately overwhelmed by the abundance of inspirational ideas (hello Pinterest!) and advice that was at my fingertips. After a faltering start of swinging back and forth from one style of event to another, clarity emerged! We simply realized to accomplish a uniquely beautiful, elegant wedding we only needed to follow our hearts and make decisions based on experiences we had while falling in love, family heritage, and local possibilities. After all, how could our wedding not be uniquely us if every detail, from the dress to the china, was perfectly sentimental?

After a romantic Winter Solstice proposal in our own living room on December 21st, 2012 we quickly agreed on an August wedding in 2014 so as to fully enjoy our engagement and wedding planning process. The month of August in Oregon is warm with romantic light and coloring, and August 8th was the perfect date to recognize the symbolic “double happiness symbol” used in my parents’ Hong Kong nuptials. While Andy was raised in Portland, we met in the Willamette Valley where I grew up, thus making a beautiful vineyard setting an easy first choice… not to mention we both love Oregon wine! We chose Vista Hills Vineyard for its gorgeous panoramic backdrop, yet nicely shaded intimate ceremony area to ensure our guests’ comfort. We knew it would perfectly set the tone for our classic and refined vineyard wedding with old-world elegance and natural style.

With the winery tasting room built from rich textured cedar, it was quickly apparent that we needed to balance the strong wood features with an elegant and soft color palette. We were careful to choose blush, whites and creams to complement my red hair and light skin tone, adding dark charcoal to juxtapose and create a vintage contrast. We refrained from using photos on our save-the-date cards and invitations, instead choosing a more formal suite with classic designs and language to stay in line with the overall style. We even had the calligrapher stagger the address lines on the individually hand written envelopes to honor my mom’s British heritage and the way she was taught to address an envelope! We had fun working with a local artist to create a logo including the double infinity symbol to reflect our August 8th date. We were also fortunate to have savvy friends design and produce a custom website, stamp, and map to be signed by guests.

My dress was next on the list! I knew this would be a cherished moment, so I savored the experience by not jumping right to it. After listening to others’ advice and some dramatic stories, I shopped only with my Mother the first day. Once we had found “the dress” I set a lunch date a few weeks later and invited bridesmaids, Moms and Grandmas to come take a peek. This made for one of the most special and relaxing experiences. My very first “dressy” dress as a young woman was a little black Nicole Miller number, so when I found myself falling in love with her designs, it seemed a natural decision to choose this designer for my wedding gown. It was a fun way to help make such an important decision. After one day of shopping, I had found my dress and made a choice that held sentimental value!

When our special day finally arrived after 18 months of spreadsheets (I’m an organizer!), meetings, and DIY projects, everything seemed effortless. We lucked out with what some said was the most beautiful day of the wedding season with 80 degree weather and perfectly warm filtered sunshine. On the most important day of my life, it was with sadness that my Dad was no longer with us to walk me down the aisle, but my baby brother honored our life-long pact by giving me away as our classical guitarist played Pachelbel’s Canon in D. With Andy’s Dad being an Oregon Supreme Court Justice, it was an honor to have a fellow Judge and good family friend marry us. Our guests sipped on refreshments as Andy and I shared our personally crafted vows. Andy, known for his humor, provided many laughs and I remembered my Dad and how happy he would have been to see me find such a perfect partner.

Throughout the journey of planning our big day, one of Andy’s frequent requests was that our wedding should feel comfortable both for us and our guests. In order to accomplish this we settled on a long table format to create a summer dinner party feel. We opted to sit directly in the middle surrounded by our family and friends, rather than at a separated head table. It was a perfect way to reflect our casual personalities, yet still maintain a classic look. Lush and soft floral arrangements in old-world ceramic urns adorned each table from end to end. The smaller and smaller the details became, the more sentimental and meaningful our choices were – I cried as we picked out our elegant gold china to honor the plates my English Grandmother always let me look at (but not touch) as a little girl! Our rings were carried in an antique silver box, tied to a pillow that included an embroidered blue heart made from the cloth of my Dad’s old fishing hat. When it came to the menu, we made sure to infuse an assortment of high quality Italian meats to honor Andy’s heritage and Italian East Coast family, a leg of lamb to honor my English upbringing, and fresh salmon to give our guests a taste of the Pacific Northwest. We chose berry pies to ensure everyone got to experience the abundance of Oregon summer fruit. The “pièce de résistance” – our caterer crafted the most marvelous “cheese cake”, made up of gourmet British, Italian, and Northwest cheeses with local fruits lushly cascading down each layer – it was a huge hit! Atop wine barrels situated throughout the outdoor reception area were handmade wood signs with favorite quotes, cut from a tree found in the same county we met and were married in. It was our biggest DIY project and one that required both of us to work together.

Our wedding was everything we could have dreamed of due to our wonderful parents, family and friends who shared our special day. Our vendors, including an incredibly skillful and dedicated wedding planner, and photographers whom we now call friends, were carefully chosen and worked above and beyond our wishes to ensure our entire day was perfect from start to finish. With loving and cherished sentimental details sprinkled throughout, it was a magical and warm summer night that we will never forget as we entered into our newly married life together!

Neutral Chic Oregon Winery Wedding

Elegance is learned, my friends, and this wedding can teach us all a few things. The beautiful couple chose to wed on the lawn of a French chateau overlooking Ashland’s hills and valleys, and kept it effortlessly chic with neutral colors and simple flowers. Get swept away by the beautiful details, captured by Alexandra Grace Photography with help from Nikita Lee Photography, right here.

From the beautiful Bride… Our wedding took place on a warm August day. We were so blessed, Ashland had been covered in smoke from the latest forest fires and it cleared up for our big day, clearing the way to see the beautiful green valley below us. We said our vows on the lawn of a French chateau overlooking Ashland’s green valley, hills, and the vineyard. It was a dream! We were lucky to be able to celebrate with approximately 150 guests, plus our wedding party of 12.

For both the bridal party and the groomsmen we let them choose their own attire as long as they stayed within our guideline and style. I wanted the bridesmaid dresses to represent them and be something that they felt beautiful and comfortable in. I asked that they wear a dress below the knee and not too revealing, I wanted their dress to have a classy and elegant feel that went with the style of the venue and our taste. I also wanted simple and “effortless”, so I wanted colors that were in the tan department- and, taupe, light brown. I wanted them to blend but stand out individually and my girls hit the nail on the head! Everyone looked so beautifully elegant and surpassed my vision. The bridesmaids all wore nude heels.

The groomsmen had a little less wiggle room, but weren’t assigned a certain place to shop. We told them to go out and get tan slacks, brown suspenders, brown dress shoes, and a white button up. For a groomsman gift they were given mint bow ties with white polka dots that they wore on our big day (one of the few splashes of color). I was a little nervous to send out six guys and to see what they came up with but they looked great!

My groom wore a fitted light sand colored suit with a white button up and a blue skinny tie with mint polka dots. He looked so handsome! The fitted suit was tailored to him and the brown dress shoes pulled the look all together.

I wore a dress I found at David’s Bridal. I found it the first time I went dress shopping with my mom and grandma. I reluctantly went that day and the first dress I tried on I knew was the one! The white lace over the cream silk gave it timeless beauty. It showed just enough skin and hugged my curves to make me feel sexy, but I still felt modest and classy. Not only was it the look I was going for, but it made me feel beautiful and like a bride. That’s when I knew I had to get married in it! I chose to complement the dress with gold stilettos by Steve Madden and a dainty gold branch bracelet with pearls hanging from it that I picked up at a boutique.

Our bridal party got ready on location before the festivities began. On the side of the chateau was a two story, cylinder tower. The guys got ready on the bottom story, complete with a large living room and bathroom. The ladies were on the top floor with a kitchen, large living room, bathroom, and bedroom. They were beautiful rooms that made you feel at home and made it easy to get ready. The bridesmaids did their own hair and makeup. I asked that the ladies wore their hair styled up, again wanting their personalities and style to show. Each updo was beautiful and simple and complemented their dresses so well. I had two bridesmaids choose to have my hair stylist do theirs as well.

For my hair I want to continue with the effortlessly classy look I was going for. I chose to wear my hair down the middle with long loose curls. During the ceremony I wore a veil that met the middle of my back with a blusher I wore until I got to the end of the isle. For the reception, I greeted our guests wearing a beautiful and simple flower crown made out of baby’s breath, created by my florist. I was fortunate enough to have my dear friend Mattie Lee, co-owner of H&M Salon, style my hair and walk around with me before the ceremony, during pictures, and before the reception to make sure everything stayed styled.

For my makeup I wanted to be contoured and have defined eyes and lips, but not look like I was covered in makeup. I wanted a simple makeup but one that was different from my everyday look. I love bright lipstick but didn’t want it to be distracting that day, so we went with a slightly darker nude gloss I surprisingly loved. My makeup artist, Robin Rasmussen from NEST Salon, did an amazing job and I could not have been happier!

For my flowers I wanted clean and simple, but elegant. I chose to do all white flowers with greenery, and with the help of my florist and mother, we came up with the combination of baby’s breath, gardenias, and green and white hydrangeas. My bridesmaids carried bouquets of baby’s breath and gardenias, while my maid of honor and I carried bouquets of baby’s breath, hydrangeas, and gardenias. The groomsmen wore simple boutonnieres of baby’s breath and my groom, a white gardenia. Our centerpieces were made up with the same flowers along with birch logs we drilled holes into to make tea light candle holders.

As our guests entered we had three Polaroid cameras for guests to use to take pictures with and put in our guest book. We wanted to see the day through their eyes and liked the idea of a picture of them next to their advice and love for us. Littered around were little succulents, our initials, and random birch logs. The chateau was already so rich with architecture and flowers there was no need to add an overload of decor. For guest favors, we filled mini jars with mint colored and flavored M&Ms, and tied it all together with a tag saying “Merci”.

When we all were ready I met my fiancé down on a path in the shade of some trees for our first look. It was quiet and intimate, making it feel even more romantic than it already was. After our first look and some individuals, our bridal party came down and we did all of our shots except ones with family, who hadn’t arrived yet. The bridesmaids and I then headed to the top floor of the chateau where guests weren’t allowed to go. We had an amazing library with a balcony overlooking where the ceremony and reception would take place, along with the green hills and valleys of Ashland. It was an absolute dream and was the perfect place to relax and prepare for everything that was about to come. The groomsmen and my groom relaxed in a closed off circular room right below ours. It was filled with antiques, elegant paintings, and beautiful furniture. Minutes before the ceremony started, we both separately had our bridal party and pastor pray over us.

When the ceremony started, the groomsmen and bridesmaids walked two by two, following my groom, down two sets of marble staircases as all guest eyes were on them. Followed by a ring bearer, two flower girls, and me. I have never felt more like a princess walking down those elegant staircases. We were married under a birch wood arch, made by my father, covered in flowers designed by my florist. Not only was it absolutely beautiful and exactly what I had pictured, it meant so much to us that my father had created it. The pastor that married us is a good friend and mentor of ours. We worked under him as high school ministry leaders (how we met) and he was the one that sparked the idea in our heads to date. It was only fitting to have him marry us and meant so much. We had a Christian ceremony with traditional vows. Before he pronounced us man and wife, we took communion as our good friend sang and play the acoustic guitar. While taking communion we nailed shut our wine box. Our wine box is filled with a bottle of wine from the winery we got married at and unread love notes we wrote to each other the morning of the wedding describing how we fell in love with one another and our excitement for the day. Now we won’t open the box until our five year anniversary, or a time before that if we need to be reminded of the vows we said to each other and the love felt that day.

Immediately following the ceremony we signed our marriage certificate in the upstairs library and took quick family photos. Our reception was at the same location as the ceremony. I’m so grateful for the staff that was working at Belle Fiore Winery that day and made the smooth transition. As guests were in the chateau’s wine tasting room, where the guests were sitting before was being turned into the dance floor with tables surrounding it. The pathway above, in the middle of the two staircases, now had tables for guests as well as our sweetheart table in the center so we could look at everything.

Our reception was filled with toasts from loved ones, the traditional bouquet and garter toss, wine, great finger foods and hors d’oeuvres, and a lot of dancing. Our DJ did a great job of keeping the celebration going and giving our guests a good time.

We exited right after sundown to our friends and family lined up on both sides holding large sparklers! It was so fun to run through them and to be seen off with my new husband. We drove away that night to start our honeymoon at Callahan’s Lodge in Ashland, a log cabin type room in the woods.

What do you get when you add a gorgeous gown, vintage mink jacket and bowtie to an already adorable engaged couple? And then toss in the stunning Smith Rock National Park on top of it all? One absolutely beautiful photo shoot that mixes rustic and elegance oh so perfectly. Alexandra Grace captured this magic and these pics right here just raised my standard tenfold.

From Alexandra Grace PhotographyRuthie’s glamorous style was perfectly represented by her shimmering champagne-colored dress from Lulu’s and her mink jacket that belonged to her grandmother. Ruthie made a bow tie for Josh to wear and the two of them looked absolutely perfect in front of the stunning views of Smith Rock. Elegant Oregon Winery Wedding

Y’all know I’m never one to pass up a winery wedding and this studded affair is certainly no exception. Not only does it take place in my native state, but the darling details Moetic Wedding Films captured are enough to make me giddy. From the Bride’s beautiful gown to the pretty pink accents laced throughout, Anne Nunn Photographers snapped it all in the gorgeous gallery!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/112348382 600 338]

From Anne Nunn PhotographersLiz & Matt chose King Estate not only because it’s a beautiful and unique venue, but it also is owned by Liz’s grandmother and it made perfect sense to celebrate the beginning of their lives together, on the estate that belongs to her family, surrounded by family and friends who had traveled from near and far.

Liz prepared for her wedding day in the historic private residence at the winery where the family has many memories of staying when they would visit. The home was stunning with the open windows and spaces.
Liz gave her Mom a handkerchief with embroidered words from a childhood book that her mom read to her. It was an incredibly precious and intimate moment.

They were married in the Pear Orchard at the Vineyard, which created an even more intimate feel for their wedding day. Liz wore a stunning Lazaro gown and Matt wore a tuxedo, making the two of them an even more stunning bride and groom.

The reception was designed by West Coast Event Productions, creating a unique and perfect touch to the reception. King Estate did a fabulous job with the catering.

Many vendors made Liz & Matt’s wedding one of our favorites and we couldn’t have been happier to have been their wedding photographers and work with the vendors.

Romantic Forest Grove Wedding

From this moment forward, I’m totally recommending that every wedding have the following: a breathtaking forest-like ceremony, a flower hound and a romance-filled reception, complete with barn dancing.  Because this wedding right here?  It’s amazing.  Think all of the aforementioned planned to perfection by Bridal Bliss, plus a bride and groom who are the literal definition of stunning.  See it all captured by Briana Morrison here, and in the sweet film from J&M Media below.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/107412349 600 338]

From Briana MorrisonCally and Guy had one of the most magical wedding venues. They were lucky enough to be married at Cally’s family property just outside of Portland. Rippling Waters Park is truly one of a kind. Cally and Guy said “I do” in front of a Balinese Tea House that they adorned with lush flowers and greenery. The Balinese Tea House sat in a grass meadow surrounded by towering old trees. The ceremony was quiet with little noise but the string quartet; a very peaceful setting for Cally and Guy to say their vows. The wedding party stood in a half circle around them signifying the circle of love supporting their union. Their beloved flower hound, Chowder, voluntarily lay at their feet resting her head on Guy’s shoe.

After the ceremony guests headed down to Gales Creek lookout and enjoyed cocktail hour by the water. Guests were then led up a dirt trail to the reception which opened onto the home’s lawn and garden. This field hosted an amazing marquee for dinner, including the dance floor and band. The tent was filled with flowers, candles and wood cut table numbers. The inspiration for the feel in the tent was elegant, yet natural. Having such a beautiful backdrop, we wanted to keep things very organic so they would blend with the beautiful surroundings.

As the sun set Cally and Guy wowed their guests with an amazing burn in a valley below the dinner tent. The architectural fire burned all night creating a magical glow for the reception. After dancing the night away to the band and crackle of the fire, guests followed a trail lit by candles and sparklers to the dance barn for more late night music and fun. The night was pure perfection and one to remember.

Whimsical Oregon City Wedding

I’m calling this sweet day a “woodland fairytale,” but, honestly, Disney’s got nothing on this love fest set against the pure beauty of the Oregon forest.  From the pretty pink hues dotting every lovely moment to the gorgeous floral crowns crafted by a friend of the bride to the breathtaking images from Tara Francis Photography.  Soak in all of the pretty right here

From Tara Francis Photography… Alexa and Eric were married outside in the woods at a beautiful venue called Merry Wood Farms which is located just outside of Portland, OR. As a photographer their venue was a dream; so many great details and spots to shoot. Their wedding was very beautiful, rustic and whimsical.

As a wedding photographer you see a lot of the same things. A few unique ideas from Alexa and Eric’s wedding day was the Grandma Flower Ladies. Their grandmas walked down the aisle tossing flower petals. It was so cute and a great way to include them into the ceremony. Alexa had the bottom of her wedding dress taken off and sewn as cap sleeves. The dress was so pretty and fit in well with their whimsical outdoor wedding. I also liked that they included the oversized balloons for not only the wedding party portraits but the family portraits, as well.

After their ceremony, Alexa and Eric shared a quiet moment under the apple tree, enjoying drinks and each other. It gave me another opportunity to shoot some more sweet moments of them together. I loved that Eric loves film as much as I do and was very motivated in having his wedding shot by a film photographer. In true Oregon fashion, even the wine was homemade… by Papa Jim.

From the Bride… Our Wedding day was pure whimsy! It felt like the beauty of our venue mixed with the rustic details simply enhanced the purpose of our day: making a commitment to love and serve each other ’til death do us part. The day came together due to our many gifted friends and family. I was inspired by the beauty of Oregon’s forest that I grew up around and wanted something natural and woodsy for my mountain man husband! We wanted it to feel as though our closest friends and family trekked into the peaceful woods to catch a glimpse of our nuptials. My bridesmaids sat on tree stumps with delicate dollies (thanks grammie!,) guests chairs formed rows giving priority to the curve of the forest, and we stood under a beautiful arbor my Grandpa made for our special day. It was adorned with ferns my Grandma collected, along with the floral styling’s of my precious childhood friend, Shaylee Hughes, who also served as the florist for the girls bouquets and my gorgeous bridal headpiece. The beautiful chalk art welcome sign (along with many other chalk board signs) was a gift of love by one of my bridesmaids Lauren of LaWren Designs. All of the festive banners, the ombre dip-dyed table runners, and lace on the mason jar centerpieces were created by me, the bride, and my mommy! We also had a blast thrifting retro colored glass votives and wood candle holders to shabby chic for centerpieces. My daddy cut the rustic wood rounds for centerpieces.

As I was walking down with my maids to meet Eric for our first look it started lightly raining. It was so peaceful and refreshing and I wouldn’t have changed anything about our special moments we shared before the day got crazy and way fun! Being in the moment and soaking it all in has created many vibrant memories we can think back on. Thankfully though, it stopped raining shortly after our first look and the skies were clear for our day!

After our ceremony we wanted to spend our first moments as husband and wife together. We had friends set up a blanket and two bottles of kombucha for us to enjoy in a hidden apple orchid near the ceremony site! We basked in our newly married bliss and enjoyed some time sitting before we were off to our party. The contentment and joy we felt was beautifully captured by Tara.

The bridesmaids dresses were mostly from Free People, with one being from Billabong, and one was thrifted.

Kim Calcagno, my high school Fashion/marketing teacher, served as my day of coordinator. (Made the day SO care free!)

Girls bouquets, bridal floral headpiece and bouquet, ceremony styling’s were done by my childhood friend Shaylee Hughes.

Elegant Pacific Northwest Winter Wedding

Oregon winters are magical; that goes without saying.  But take a misty winter day in Oregon and add in some fabulous florals from Punch Portland, a bundle of golden-hued details and a bride and groom who are the literal definition of stunning and it’s a winter day like you’ve never seen.  Bask in the beauty captured by Anna Jaye Photography right here in the full gallery

From Anna Jaye PhotographySarah, the Bride, loves the winter and knew she wanted a winter wedding from the get go, despite concerns from friends and family that it would be too cold and/or rainy (Oregon in winter means rain!). The day turned out lovely with a light mist falling through most of the day and a bit of fog on the horizon, which gave the photos a soft, Pacific Northwest feel.

Sarah and Matt were married in a little white chapel at the Abernethy Center in Oregon City, OR. Their reception followed in the Abernethy Ballroom a few short steps away.

Sarah’s florist incorporated succulents, brunia berries, cedar, and pinecones into the bouquets and boutonnieres to reflect the winter theme. She and her bridesmaids wore pretty fur stoles to keep warm. The centerpieces were a mix of tall branches (some with cotton) with mercury glass candles, and shorter vignettes with lush white blooms in white milk glass vases. Sarah said,”The most important thing for me was for everyone to have fun and enjoy the night which wasn’t very difficult since it was a very intimate wedding with only 65 guests. Only our family and closest friends were there so everyone knew each other very well.”

From Marina Koslow Photography… Kaethe and Ben celebrated their intimate wedding with close family and friends during the gorgeous Oregon summer. Their focus was not on a big event but rather on a meaningful time with each other and people they loved. For design we utilized a lot of beautiful backdrops that surrounded the event property. Being a wedding photographer herself Kaethe has a keen sense of style and she also developed the timeline to allow us to travel to a few locations for portraits before arriving at the ceremony site. Their day was truly perfect.

Rustic Oregon Barn Wedding

When the Groom popped the big question – in the attic of their barn under strings of lights and a table set for two – it only made sense to say “I do” where it all went down. Along with family and friends, they worked hard to gussy up their property for the Big Day and the payoff was tenfold. See all the love through the lens of Maria Lamb right over here.

From The Bride…I would say I am a fairly quiet person, I always knew I would say “yes” when Josh asked me to marry him but on the day we got engaged I think I actually screamed “YES!”. Every detail Josh had dreamed up was so thoughtful and original, I was overjoyed. Josh asked me to marry him at the end of the night, on one knee, in the attic of our barn, under strings of lights and a table set for two. Many of our friends were involved in our engagement, and in their own special way made it one of my favorite memories of my life. We were engaged in our barn and we knew it would only be right to celebrate our wedding and reception on our property as well. From planting new grass, to building fences, to trenching new water lines we really jumped into this wedding planning thing with both feet.

Josh and I are surrounded by the most helpful, giving and loving family and friends who spent countless hours helping us build, prep and clean so that when September 6th rolled around everything would be perfect, and that it was. It was a hot day in Oregon, hitting around 95 degrees by the afternoon, but between the shade from the fir trees, the light wind and the sweet drinks, nobody was complaining. We had a small, intimate ceremony in our garden and dinner in our barn with around forty family and friends. We shared memories and cheered to the good times. Around seven o’clock the band started, neighbors came over and more family and friends piled in. Everyone put on their dancing shoes and we celebrated late into the night. It was the perfect day.

Winter’s Dawn Wedding Inspiration Shoot

Captured through the lens of Mary Alice Hall the soft, subtle tones of the bridesmaid dresses coupled with the gorgeous intricate lace of the brides gown played perfectly with the rustic ambiance of the rustic setting. With gorgeous floral arrangements designed by Blum Floral Design and a captivating video by Watertown Wedding Films, every detail of this beautiful inspiration shoot cannot be missed here!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/117943281 600 338]

From photographer Mary Alice Hall… Champagne Wedding Coordination headed the event design for the shoot, but the inspiration and design planning was a collaborate effort from Mary Alice Hall Photography along with their team of creative Portland wedding vendors.

The winter’s dawn inspiration came from our love of 19th century romantic literature and Jane Austen’s timeless novel, Pride & Prejudice. We created a romantic and whimsical mood while keeping the design modern and timeless. Our all-time favorite scene in the novel and movie is when Mr. Darcy meets Elizabeth in the woods at dawn. The sunlight gleams on their faces and it’s as if they are the only two on the earth. As soon as we decided on our theme we knew that Wind Mountain Ranch in Stevenson, Washington was the perfect location.

For the overall color palette we chose scarlet red, ivory, blush and dusty gray and – we also knew we wanted to incorporate as much luxe textile as possible with velvet, fur, wool, and feathers. Something Borrowed provided incredible vintage furniture and accessories. A scarlet red velvet settee was the perfect seat for our bridal party. A white sheepskin throw and brant burgundy afghan brought warmth and texture to our bride and groom in our fireside lounge. Lane’ at Something Borrowed provided mis-matched, gold-rimmed vintage china for our formal place settings, along with crystal champagne flutes, wine goblets and gold flatware.

The gorgeous blooms, by Blum Floral Design, she used garden roses, peonies, hydrangea, amaryllis, ranunculus and tulips to create a soft, romantic look. She added a lot of thistles, dusty miller and several varieties of eucalyptus for texture and a cool grey blue undertone. Cranberries in vases and strung on wires added more of the rich color and texture. The dining table, a gorgeous six foot farmhouse table provided by Something Borrowed. We created an elegant and unique design by using brass pillar candles, lush flowers, vintage books and our favorite cooper vessels. You can’t imagine winter without fresh cranberries, we strung them on wires for chair ties and placed in vases which added rich color and texture to our dining table.

White Pepper’s pancake wedding cake was the main highlight of our brunch buffet – The scrumptious fluffy cakes were topped with French Vanilla buttercream, fresh berries and dripping with maple syrup. We created an intimate brunch, and the delectable brunch spread sat at a classic white Lucille desk alongside our French bar cart set as a coffee bar-with colorful, vintage teacup & saucers. Freshly brewed by Chemex, Stumptown Guatemala Bella Vista coffee, not only acted as a prop but the warm coffee helped us stay warm throughout the shoot!

Our brunch theme hors d’oeuvres weren’t only appetizing but it encompassed our theme of texture and bold color! Beet Pickled Deviled Egg, Sweet Celery Hood River Bosc Pear, Prosciutto, Pistachio Brioche Toast, House Blend Almond Granola, Greek Yogurt, Strawberry and an Herb and baby greens salad with breakfast berries and a lemon vinaigrette. Our wedding party celebrated and toasted with a Classic Mimosa Argyle 2011 Vintage Brut accompanied by fresh orange juice and grapefruit.

We wanted to create a unique and dreamy seating chart. The board was made of wooden ribbon spools. Each name was pinned to the rich colored velvet ribbon. Sitting alongside was our handwritten-letter invitation, and Trista carried the calligraphy theme to the place cards at our dining table.

The English Dept. lent us three beautiful wedding gowns and gorgeous accessories. For the bride she wore Leanne Marshall’s, Danielle. An Ivory and nude lace illusion bodice gown with full silk organza skirt. Accompanied by the in-house Elizabeth sash. The Double strand of glass rhinestones on ivory silk grossgrain ribbon sash gave contrast, texture and definition.

Our lovely bridesmaids wore Claire La Faye, Bespoken in blush and pale grey. Crossover chiffon gathered bodice with Alencon lace and silk pleating, asymmetric draping and pleating detail at waistline. This wedding gown is also available in off white, ivory, blush, robin’s egg blue and nude. Our dashing groom wore a trim fit, pure wool “Heather Gray Allure” tuxedo by Jean Yves from Este’s Men’s Clothing.Portland Make-up and Hair provided the hair and makeup look for our shoot. One of the universally favored aspects of the shoot was the cap veil, our stylists transformed our bride into an updated version of Elizabeth Bennet. Her second look was fun a sophisticated and she wore Mignonne Handmade Plume D’or, brass feather motif headband to add a touch of whimsical drama. Our bridesmaids were styled with loose curls and tucked back for elegance with their feather hair clips.

The collaborative winter’s dawn inspired stylized shoot was a dream come true and we hope it inspires readers!

Remembering The Wedding Proposal

We’re not sure if you’ve noticed but we’ve been sharing heartwarming proposal stories and pics with you all day across our SMP pages… but, we’ve saved the absolute best for last! Honest to goodness – grab your hankies and crank up the volume and prepare to watch what this year’s National Proposal Day is all about. Re-living the memories of that momentous day: her parent’s permission, the loving effort and the sweetest of sweet words from a guy to his girl. Remembered, one year later on their anniversary – as captured on film by Star Light Films.

From Star Light FilmsBryon proposed to Bri on the breath taking Oregon Coast, capturing every detail. His story starts long before he gets down on one knee and lasts an entire year after she said “yes”. Bri was under the impression that SLF was on scene for that windy day at the beach only to capture the photos for her surprise proposal. Little did she know that while one camera was getting photos, the other was filming everything.

Bryon came to us wanting something different. Wanting something to completely sweep her off of her feet. Something no one has ever done before. We politely obliged.

We accompanied him, with the mic hot and equipment in hand, as he entered her Grandfather’s jewelry store. Bryon browsed a few rings before coming back to the one meant for Bri. Leaving Grandpa with a warm hug, he set off to scout Pacific City for the proposal location. Bri thought he was hiking with friends.

On the drive over, Bryon told us about why he was doing this. Why it was so important for him to create something so meaningful. It wasn’t because he wanted the recognition or attention, it was so that together, as a family, they could have a moment to physically revisit and look back on.

There was one last thing that was necessary before the big proposal day. Bryon needed the blessing from Bri’s father. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as these two men sat down in a moment of total acceptance of Bryon’s love for Bri.

All of these events happened unbeknownst and unseen by Bri, but all of them artistically captured by SLF. The footage was then crafted into a beautiful, emotional piece. Bri had absolutely no knowledge that anything had been captured on film until exactly one year after the day he proposed. Bryon simply said, “I have a surprise for you”, blindfolded her, and drove her to a remote location for the surprise screening of the happiest day of her life (thus far).

Meet SMP Blogger Bride Cambria Grace!

You might recognize Cambria Grace from her ever-popular Instagram feed, but today she’s stepping behind the SMP desk as our newest Blogger Bride-to-be. She’ll be sharing her wedding planning journey – the good, the bad, and the oh-so-pretty – and we’re kicking things off with her stunning engagement. Scroll on to get to know Cambria a wee bit better, and don’t miss the mountaintop gallery from Dylan and Sara.

From The Bride… My fiancé, Ross and I met the first day of our freshman year at Bates College. He won me over with his sense of humor and chutzpah, which lent itself to much witty banter over meals in the dining hall. It didn’t take long for me to realize he is one of a kind, and someone that I wanted to spend endless amounts of time with. Seven years later he asked me to marry him on a family trip to California.

Ross has always known how much I love spending time with my parents. We are a very tight little unit. Last spring, when we were all on vacation, he turned to my parents and asked for their permission to ask me to marry him. They of course said YES! I, still unknowing and utterly oblivious that he was proposing thought it was so sweet of him to involve me in his ‘asking for my hand’. He then turned to me, pulled out my Aunt Grace’s wedding ring, and said ‘want to get old with me’? I am never surprised, but he totally got me. I burst into tears and the rest of the memory is pretty much a black-out –  but I DO know that it was by far the happiest, most wonderful moment of my life.

Ross is the co-founder of Downeast Cider House, and I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer here in Boston. We live and work in Charlestown. Thus, we decided to get married here! We chose a pier in the navy yard, with a view of the city that we love. Keeping the wedding ‘us’ is pretty important and has been a big factor in the planning process. Being in the industry certainly gives me a different perspective on wedding planning, which I’ll be sharing about as a blogger bride here on SMP.

Style Me Pretty has been a part of my career and life for several years now. My first inspiration shoot was with Lauren WellsPollen Floral Design and Kacie Corbelle Makeup Artistry. We worked so hard, had an awesome time together, and were featured on SMP. It was my first time getting published, so I immediately called Ross and shrieked into the phone. Luckily, I still have Lauren, Krissy and Kacie on my side for the wedding day as vendors and friends. Lauren is even taking on matron-of-honor duties, as well as styling the entire event. The impressive creative community in Boston has certainly become a big part of my life, personally and professionally, and I’m excited to see and share my wedding planning adventures with you!

Romantic Ranch Wedding

I just moved to Oregon (yay!) and apparently there are little spots of rustic goodness I didn’t even know existed.  Like Brasada Ranch, a central Oregon charmer perfect for a romantic, love-filled affair.  Think pastel hues, DIY details (hello gorgeous florals + cake) and Jenny Yoo bridesmaid frocks that are all sorts of beautiful.  See it all captured stunningly by Marina Koslow right here.

From Marina Koslow Photography… Lotos and Kevin married on a beautiful sun-filled summer day at Brasada Ranch, a true hideaway spot in Central Oregon. Their event was a mix of classy and romantic details with many DIY elements – flowers were done by the one of the bridesmaids and could not have complemented the girls’ dresses better. The cake that was made by a bride’s friend was a passion fruit ice cream and chocolate chiffon flavor and looked absolutely stunning. The cute place cards and seating map were crafted by the groom. The day ended with a spectacular sunset and dancing into the night.

From Lotos and Kevin… Brasada Ranch became the perfect back drop for our wedding. Majority of our guests were family from out side of the United States, making our wedding more of a destination wedding, and we wanted to show them the beauty of Oregon. The amazing setting and delicious food cooked by Brasada Ranch created an unforgettable and intimate atmosphere.

We also wanted our wedding to reflect who we are, and we tried to put as many personal touches as possible into the wedding. As designers, it was important to us to infuse our design aesthetic as much as possible. We drew and created custom laser cut wood center pieces and painted vases to go with our flowers. The wood center pieces acted as our table numbers, and also had maps engraved on the front of cities that were of significance to us, such as where we first met or our first trip together. The groom designed and hand-cut all of the place cards. Our seating map was a nod to our architectural education. Our flowers were arranged by one of the bridesmaids, and one of our good friends made two ice cream cake for us as our wedding cake (because we love ice cream so much!) In the end, it truly took a village to put everything together! We want to thank all of our family and friends for making the trip!
