Whimsical + Elegant Oregon Ranch Wedding

When the Bride just so happens to be an all-star wedding planner we know we’re in for a GORGE gallery. And this Oregon affair? Well, it’s certainly no exception. For not only did this Bride take part in planning her Big Day, but she enlisted the ever-so-talented Ivy And Gold to share the moment and snap up every sentimental detail. It’s the type of pretty that is beyond pin-worthy and we’ve got it all waiting for you in THE VAULT!

From Ivy And Gold… This classic, elegant wedding was just right down to the last detail. Beautiful invitations, florals, and gowns were some of the many aesthetic highlights. The Tetherow was the most amazing backdrop, accenting the incredible scenery in Bend, Oregon.

From the Bride… As an event and wedding planner by profession, surprisingly one of my favorite parts of the day was letting others (including my talented sister-in-law) handle the details of setup and decor while I spent time getting ready with my 9 bridesmaids (who live all over the country and were able to all be in one place on that day).

Also, my sister stayed up with me all night the night before the wedding (I couldn’t sleep from nerves and excitement) and we grabbed Starbucks and chocolate chip pancakes at the break of dawn when the Original Pancake House opened – definitely a memory we won’t forget.

Chic + Modern Portland Wedding

Hip weddings and the city of Portland go hand-in-hand. And the fact that this Bride and Groom chose to exchange their vows on a Middle School rooftop with killer city views is the coolest thing ever. The whole affair is a modern couple’s dream come to life, and Birds Of A Feather didn’t miss a beat. Psst: right this way for so much more.

From Birds Of A FeatherNew Yorkers Josh & Liz curated a casual, fun-filled day that reflected their love of minimalist design and fashion. Liz, who works for the shoe designer Matt Bernson, and Josh, a product designer, both have family roots in Portland so a destination wedding over the summer seemed a perfect fit.

Their ceremony on the roof of Washington Middle School showed off 360 degree views of the city on a perfectly sunny day, and they surprised their guests with a New Orleans style 2nd line processional to the reception venue, Cooper’s Hall. All 100 guests dancing down the streets of Portland was a sight to behold! Great food and tons of dancing filled the rest of the fun-filled evening.

Design-wise, Josh designed all the paper goods, and a family florist friend created the candleholders offset by simple succulent arrangements. Liz and her bridesmaids and flower girls all wore Matt Bernson shoes, naturally!

Romantic Gold + Blush Riverside Wedding

My favorite thing about this wedding? The Bride and Groom thought of everything. From the circular seating so that all the guests could feel included in the ceremony to the surprise performance from On the Rocks, an A Capella group the couple’s alma mater University of Oregon, this wedding is full of special touches. See them all from Olivia Leigh Photography in THE VAULT!

From Allure With DecorWhen you fall in love, you begin picturing the day of your dreams. The day you say “I do”, the moment you step into The Dress, the feel of that bouquet in your hands. All that imagining becomes reality on the day, your day…the wedding. This wedding truly was something from a dream…with it’s peachy, blush tones and the location nestled in the lush green background of Southern Oregon, it was picture-perfect. Andrew and Nicole said their vows to a forever love at a park in gorgeous Southern Oregon, and the result was an enchanting evening by the river. Nicole, the stunning bride, requested a mix of ivory, peach, and blush, and instantly, we paired that vision with glamorous gold. The gold stood out against the chic vintage decor, and it all worked seamlessly. Gold chargers and plush, tufted chairs lent the elegant air, while the more rustic pergola kept the whole look grounded and natural. With floral by Jeanie Payne of Orchard Home B&B, it couldn’t have been better.

“May your love be firm,
and may your dream of life together be a river between two shores — by day bathed in sunlight, and by night illuminated from within. May the heron
carry news of you to the heavens, and the salmon bring the sea’s blue grace. May your twin thoughts spiral upward
like leafy vines, like fiddle strings in the wind, and be as noble as the Douglas fir. May you never find yourselves back to back
without love pulling you around
into each other’s arms.”- James Bertolino

From The Bride…There wasn’t a specific moment of proposal because we knew right away. We met when I spontaneously signed on for a spring break trip to Oregon with a mutual college friend. We stayed with Andrew’s family and hung out with them for two weeks. It was incredible. Neither of us was looking for someone but we were blown away by how much we had in common, shared goals, interests, and how much we loved being around each other. Three months later we both moved to Eugene and both attended the University of Oregon.

My ultimate goal was for everyone to have fun and feel welcome. We’re both really laid back, fun-loving, and a little geeky so we wanted our wedding to reflect that. After meeting with my planner, Terrie Day, I realized that I would need to do research and learn quickly because I had lots of decisions to make!

I know what it’s like to be stuck in the back of the wedding and not be able to see or hear. It makes you feel unimportant and bored. So I chose circular seating so there could be fewer rows and everyone could be closer. I made sure the tables were arranged in a way that everyone could see the wedding party table and dance floor. We had a comfy lounge area alongside the dance floor so everyone could feel like they were part of the action.

We put a lot of thought into our ceremony music. We walking down the aisle to Vitamin String Quartet’s “Concerning Hobbits” and our recessional was “Life’s A Happy Song” from the 2011 movie “The Muppets.” Our Postlude was “Skullcrusher Mountain” by Jonathan Coulton. They all have significant meaning to us.

I wore my mom’s cathedral length veil as my something old and borrowed, new was my sparkly silver shoes, and blue was my flower girl, Greta’s, earrings.

I wore a light pink vintage inspired reception dress with a homemade birdcage veil.

I put a riddle on the wedding website that, when solved, took guests to a hidden page full of pictures of the wedding party and planning teasers.

My favorite moments of the day was UO’s A Capella group, On The Rocks, during dinner. We planned for them to surprise his aunt with a modified version of “Cecilia” because it was her birthday. I also requested that they surprise his mom with a modified “Stacey’s Mom.” On The Rock’s enthusiasm and upbeat energy was contagious and set the tone for the rest of the night.

The wedding party jumped into the river after everyone went home. It was around 100 degrees all day so the water was the perfect way to end the night.

My advice for future brides and grooms is don’t be afraid to share the spotlight. The wedding is about two families coming together. Including special moments that make them feel important or loved will make everyone happy and enjoy the wedding more. It makes people feel welcome, fosters a spirit of togetherness, and down-to-earth fun.

Elegant Botanical Inspired Oregon Wedding

Sometimes it’s a major piece of the wedding puzzle that captures my attention but sometimes it’s the tiniest of details. And in this case, it’s one simple sweater. But not just any ol’ sweater, but the Bride’s grandmother’s that she slipped over her gown when temps dipped a little low; the sweetest “something old” I ever did see. See this and more, with all of Twah Dougherty’s pics in our VAULT right this way!

From Twah Dougherty… It was a dream to work with Kasey and Alex on their wedding day. I love that both Kasey and Alex were so involved with the details yet were completely relaxed. They completely trusted their vendors knowing they hired the best. I love that Kasey incorporated something old using her grandmother’s sweater as an accessory to wear when the temperature dipped down. The clean palette mixed with gold details for a touch of luxury, in an organic environment overlooking the lake, was the perfect combination to pull off this botanical style wedding. Luxe Events did wonders with executing the couple’s vision as they always do!

From the Bride… Alex and I met eleven years ago as undergraduates at UCLA, and every day I feel so lucky to be in love with my best friend. We just have fun together, no matter what we are doing, and planning our wedding was no different. Most of our friends and family think we’re crazy perfectionists, but we just love rolling up our sleeves for a good creative challenge. I’ll admit, sometimes we may get a little obsessed with the details.

My mom offered up her house in Lake Oswego, which was the main inspiration for our wedding decor. We wanted a clean botanical theme to embrace the beautiful lake view. It was important to us that our wedding feel relaxed and personalized. We spent a lot of time thinking through the design details and finding professionals who understood our point-of-view.

We are so fortunate to have worked with such a talented bunch of professionals, led by our wedding planner Brooke Kranzler from Luxe Wedding Events.

From a seriously romantic waterfall waterfront elopement, to a printed cake that looks as good as we imagine it tastes, this gallery is one you won’t want to miss. So dive in an see it all for yourself in THE VAULT!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/143332715 600 338]

From Outlive CreativeJessi, the co-founder at Outlive Creative is inspired by the tropics of Hawaii. When she was visiting the islands this summer her favorite moments were spent hiking through thick jungles to find waterfalls at the end. She trekked over large entangled roots, walked under hanging vines, leaped rocks to cross rivers, and climbed boulders. She and the Outlive Team are blessed to have similar features in their own back yard in Portland, Oregon. Jessi wanted to introduce the Hawaiian tropical rainforest to Oregon’s Northwest rainforest. Inspired by this concept, Outlive Creative produced a “TROPICAL NORTHWEST STYLED SHOOT”.The style of the shoot was based around the concept of having a retro Hawaiian rainforest meet a modern Northwest rainforest. The first vendor who Outlive Creative reached out to was Pilar from Vintage Mingle. The owner, Pilar is very sweet, kind, down to earth, and authentic. Pilar was able to contribute the dinnerware for the shoot.

Susanna from Pistils and Stamen, contributed to the shoot in a tremendous way. By designing gorgeous floral arrangements, Susanna was able to turn the concept into a reality. “It was important to have a good balance of tropical rainforest elements intertwined with our Northwest rainforest environment. Her floral designs fit the theme perfectly” says Jessi. One of the team’s favorite elements of the shoot were provided by Lynn from Vitreluxe. Lynn is another Portland based artist. He is an award winning artist, designer, and craftsman. The Vitreluxe studio is nestled in the lower southeast district of the city where he focuses on glass working. He provided all of the glass vases and holders. Vitreluxe Glass Works was founded by Lynn in 1999 and has earned a highly regarded reputation for distinctly creative work that employs a wealth of techniques. The studio functions off of 100% renewable energy.

The dress was important to fit the occasion. Though lace is gorgeous, we wanted to stray away from the vintage appeal and replace it with a retro flare. To achieve this vision, we sought after local Portland dress designer, Lena Medoyeff. Lena’s dresses are handmade in the beautiful Northwest. They embody a spirit of independence and do not compromise on quality. The company has been providing dress designs since 1998. The dresses are handmade from all natural silk or one hundred percent cotton, colored by natural vegetable and mineral dyes, and stitched by talented seamstresses.

Sarahi from Pure Elegance worked her magic to create the perfect bridal look for this shoot. She used tropical inspired colors that coordinated perfectly with the color scheme. Lastly, Rosy from Rosy Cakes provided a custom wedding cake handmade and sculpted to perfection. The patterned cake was created by Outlive Creative’s lead designer, Nick. This past summer, co-founders of Outlive Creative, Jessi and Race spent most of their time exploring the Columbia River Gorge. They knew that the Gorge would be a perfect location for their editorial wedding shoot. Using their resources, they found a cozy home on Airbnb that was located in White Salmon, Washington where they shot preps. They held the wedding ceremony at Horsetail Falls, a pretty 40 minute drive from downtown Portland.

The team at Outlive Creative love fine art film photography, it is their favorite medium to shoot in. “Film helps us to see, feel, value, and appreciate every shot that we take. Film photography helps us connect and engage with the practice in a way that digital photography cannot” says Jessi. In addition to photography, Outlive Creative wanted to film the concept so they could produce a cinematic wedding film. This styled shoot gave the team an opportunity to showcase their own wedding cinematography style. These images were taken with a Contax 645 with Kodak Portra film. Outlive Creative sends all of their film rolls into Northwest’s premiere film lab for processing, PhotoVision.

Romantic High School Sweethearts Riverside Engagement

Reason #999,999,991 why we love high school sweethearts? They’re honest-to-goodness adorbs, and Taylor & Jayko? Their engagement captured by Alexandra Grace Photography is one we’re majorly coveting. Because any e-sesh that includes three outfit changes is a winner in our wedding book. So join us in THE VAULT, where we’ll be crushing hard on these two, but truthfully can you blame us?

From Alexandra Grace PhotographyTaylor & Jayko are high school sweethearts, and when they contacted me for their engagement photos, I wanted to help them create something really special. We started planning a romantic riverside styled shoot complete with florals & THREE dresses! Taylor did her own makeup and came up with a different hairstyle for each dress, styling it without a mirror and looking stunning! The location was chosen because of the lush greenery and the rocky beach, and we scheduled our session at sunset to capture the photos as the sun set just beyond the river.

Pastel Mountain Elopement Inspiration

The Pacific Northwest is splashed with the prettiest of earthy hues. One mountaintop view kissed by the sun can yield dusty creams, distant blue peaks, deep greens and orange glows. Thanks to Alexandra Grace Photography and Ponderosa & Thyme we get to soak in those radiant tones in the form of this organic elopement inspiration. See more in THE VAULT.

From Alexandra Grace PhotographyThe goal of this collaboration was to highlight the colors and natural beauty found in the Pacific Northwest, focusing on the pastels to balance out the rich blues and greens of the landscape below Mary’s Peak near Corvallis, Oregon. Although the color palette is somewhat feminine, the loose form of the bouquet contributes to the feeling of being wild & free. The sun added a warm glow while the wind created movement, bringing everything together to form a carefree and romantic look.

Hopelessly Elegant Black, White + Gold Outdoor Oregon Wedding

The second I laid eyes on this Bride’s daring, but super-chic black and gold Romona Keveza gown, I knew the rest of the wedding was sure to be something special, and is it ever. With a stunning natural setting and dresses worthy of a Hollywood red carpet, this couple said “I do” in seriously fabulous fashion. Don’t miss any of the pretty, captured by Brittany Lauren Photography, in THE VAULT!

From Brittany Lauren PhotographyNicole and Cameron are anything but your typical couple. They travelled all the way from Texas to get married in one of their favorite towns: Bend, Oregon. The day was elegant and classy with a breath taking ceremony view and Nicole donning a show stopping Romona Keveza gown rather than a traditional white wedding dress. When guests saw her they were left in shock, but all agreed it was “SO her.”

With guests dressed to the nines, the groom looking sharp in a tailored Tommy Hilfiger suit, and the bridesmaids in mixed gold gowns, the attire really took center stage. The details were kept slightly rustic to match the venue, but updated and modernized with magnolia leaf runners and gold, black, and off-white accents. The entire day almost felt like an Oscar party and Nicole and Cameron definitely looked like movie stars!

Romantic Southern Oregon Orchard Wedding

Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Southern Oregon landscape is a little place called Hillcrest Orchard. The perfect combo of rustic + romantic, it’s one part breathtaking scenery and one part made for marrying. Now take all of that prettiness and add in lush florals from Penny And Lulu, an adorable duo and sweet lavender hues and it’s awesome wedding in one, two, three.  Head to The Vault for every amazing moment captured by Olivia Leigh Photography.  It’s a must-see.

From Olivia Leigh Photography… This was a beautiful summer wedding located at Roxy Ann Winery with the most wonderful couple, Claire and David. They had a great vision for their day and wanted a very romantic, fun and memorable day. These were my ideal clients, because they were just so perfect to work with. Their love for each other is out of this world and their family and friends were just as equally wonderful to work with! I feel very honored to have documented their amazing day!

From the Bride… It was really important to both of us to be married outside, surrounded by the natural beauty of where we grew up in Southern Oregon. Our vision was to create a rustic chic vibe, and our goal was to throw the best party possible for our friends and family as a way of expressing our gratitude to them. We worked closely with my aunt, Kathryn Kenna, a wedding planner in San Francisco, but ultimately really trusted the vendors that we hired for our wedding. They all had amazing advice and suggestions for us, and knowing how great their work is, we just trusted them along the way.

We chose lavender as our floral and wedding theme, because of its color and amazing smell, and it is in full bloom throughout Southern Oregon in June. We incorporated lavender into all our bouquets along with cream and peach garden roses and eucalyptus.

We got a lot of inspiration and ideas from Pinterest, Instagram, and wedding blogs, but ultimately we went with what felt most comfortable to us. We wanted our family and friends to have great wine, food, and cake, and be comfortable dancing the night away! The biggest hits of the wedding were the parasols we handed out for the ceremony, our homemade photo booth, and the flip flops we left out for guests during dancing.

The cake and wedding photography were also huge successes! The day was such a blast, we were able to relax and really enjoy every moment – although it flew by!

Romantic Summer Wedding at Zenith Vineyard

Oh how I wish I’d been one of these bridesmaids; from their boho chic hairstyles to the pretty in purple dresses that I would have then worn all summer long, they scored well with this role. But these lucky ladies were just one fabulous piece in a whole collection of wedding wonders, with Alexandra Grace capturing every single one. See it all in our VAULT and start pinning all these pics as inspiration for all your newly engaged girlfriends; this is how to make your maids happy.

From Alexandra Grace Photography… Veronica and Eric celebrated their wedding with friends and family at Zenith Vineyard in Salem, Oregon after Eric served on deployment for a year. The strength and resilience of their relationship was evident amidst their ceremony, tears, jokes, and laughter – complete with personalized vows and a reading from The Velveteen Rabbit.

Their entire day was filled with unique details envisioned by Veronica, such as the bridesmaids’ tops and skirts made by one of the bridesmaids. Their hairstyles and florals were delicately bohemian, and Veronica shocked her bridesmaids when they saw her amazing dress for the first time that morning, looking stunning with a sparkly neckpiece by Miss Haley Paige. The delicate textures and pastel colors of the wedding party looked romantic against the green and blue hues of the Oregon wine country surrounding the vineyard. The flower girl looked graceful in her dress and mini flower crown, and the ring bearer was dapper in his tiny suspenders. The florals included lush green garlands and classic white and green arrangements.

Intimate + Organic Sauvie Island Engagement Session in Oregon

Love is a remarkable thing, for even in the event of natural disaster it remains un-shook and stronger than ever. Take this pair whose friendship evolved into undeniable love and after an international reunion, a proposal. It’s a story that proves there is always a silver lining when it comes to the power of love. See their beautiful beginning captured by Jamie Rae Photo in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…Sometimes things in life are meant to be. In Late April of this year, I had said goodbye to Andrew for 4 weeks as he traveled to Nepal for a world conference about public health. It is always hard knowing you won’t see someone for a little while, but this was a great opportunity for him. Two days after that, a massive, deadly earthquake shook Nepal. I hadn’t heard from Andrew for days, I wasn’t sure if he was able to make it to safety and I was trying to keep my mind from going to the worst case scenario. Would I ever be able to see him again?

I finally heard that he was safe but forced to stay in the streets as almost every building had collapsed, no running water, no food. I immediately booked Andrew a flight out of Kathmandu to Thailand (one of the only airlines flying out). The flight was delayed for days but he finally made it and I heard that he was safe. We were able to actually talk. Because he still had nearly 3 weeks left in his travel plan, he wanted to make the most of it and explore Thailand. He asked me the next day if I would be able to join him overseas to travel with him. Thanks to my wonderful manager and coworkers, I was able to get last minute time off work. I joined him in Thailand.

After experiencing a natural disaster and tragedy, suddenly you gain clarity in life. You can easily discern what you can and can’t live without. For Andrew and I, we knew we couldn’t be without each other. One week into our international reunion Andrew proposed to me, on a picturesque white sandy beach surrounded by turquoise waters and stunning cliffs in the middle of the Andaman Sea. He fashioned me a ring out of a vine, plucked from the island that I still have. It reminds us of the special memories we made in spite of a terrible situation and the promise we will keep to stand by one another through all of life’s wonderful and challenging times.

From Jamie Rae PhotoBy nature, Lauren and Andrew are helpers. Lauren spends her day as a nurse assisting and caring for women with cancer, and Andrew is a medical professor who studies epidemiology- specifically, how to care for and prevent childhood obesity. These two first met in an anatomy and physiology class that Andrew taught, and a professional level friendship was formed. Years later they reconnected with a group of colleagues, and it was then that these two realized they had more in common then medical study. In addition to their compassionate nature, this warm couple is funny, approachable, and intelligent- and full of romance and affection for each other.

I photographed Lauren and Andrew on a warm September evening on Sauvie Island. Our time was filled with laughter, interesting conversation, and a romance that is evidence in the photos.

Pastel-Filled Oregon Engagement Session

After seeing the lush, wild and romantic bouquet from this Oregon engagement session, I’m convinced every e-sesh needs one. That, and beautiful pastel dresses, a gorgeous garden setting and, most importantly, a crazy-in-love couple like this sweet Bride- and Groom-to-be. Savor each and every special moment captured by Katlyn Marie PhotoArt in THE VAULT!

From the Bride-To-Be…The first day I officially met Alex was December 31st, 2013. He was a nice, down to earth guy and we had easy conversation. With conversation we both found out that we have Greek blood on our dads’ side of the family, and we both have Greek last names! That was pretty exciting for me to find someone who enjoys the Greek culture as I do. Our relationship has been very fun, easy, and natural! He’s very sarcastic and has just brought a lot of fun to my life this last year and a half that we’ve been together.

From Katlyn Marie PhotoArtUpon meeting this couple I could immediately see their love for each other and their very colorful personalities! When thinking about how to style this engagement session, I was certain I wanted to make it colorful but sweet! This pastel inspired engagement session was a dream, and showed Alex and Jessi’s fun love in every frame!

Rustic Salem Wedding at the Bride’s Childhood Home

When the wedding takes place at the Bride’s childhood home, you can expect it be full of personal touches. But this Oregon couple went above and beyond making sure their big day was a reflection of them with touches like the ceremony arch built by the Groom’s father and the beer brewed by the Bride’s brother. See all the beautiful details captured by Amanda K Photo Art in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…Annie and Mike Ekstrom were married July 11, 2015 at Annie’s childhood home in Salem, Oregon. Both the bride and groom are native Oregonians and both families have deep roots in the area; Mike grew up on a 4th generation tree farm and Annie’s family came out to the Northwest on the Oregon Trail. Avid travelers and adventurers, Annie and Mike hoped to bring both their love of travel and their deep Oregon roots into their wedding.

Annie and Mike met in 2011 and their first date was rock climbing – followed soon after by dates skiing, hiking and eventually traveling by car through Iceland in the winter. Their love of adventure, sports and travel solidified an inseparable friendship quickly grew into a deep love for each other. They dated for 3.5 years before they were married, spending much of that time apart as Mike was a professional baseball player in the MLB and MiLB and Annie worked for Nike back in Portland.

The wedding was held at the Bride’s childhood home outside of Salem, Oregon at 4:30 PM on Saturday, July 11th 2015. The home is a dutch-colonial house on 16 acres with a large greenhouse, vineyard, barn and views of the entire Willamette Valley.

The Bride’s family has lived in that home for her whole life and the house is very special to everyone in the family and friends that know them well. The wedding had 200 guests and all events took place on the Bride’s family property. The Bride planned the whole wedding and made many of the details.

Annie prepped for the wedding in her childhood bedroom with 5 of her closest friends by her side – three of whom grew up in the area and spent many a day playing barbies or lamenting over boys in that very room.

Annie’s dress was made by local Portland designer Claire La Faye. Annie has a business creating custom bridal veils and so purchased extra lace from her dress bodice to create her veil with gold rose applique and a gold scalloped lace trim.

Mike got ready in the basement of the house in Annie’s brother’s bedroom with his 5 groomsmen.

Mike and Annie had their first look in front of what the family has always called “Annie’s Oak Tree,” a big old oak that sits right below the Annie’s childhood bedroom window surrounded by rhododendron from the Annie’s grandmother’s garden.

Annie and Mike spent much of their year-long engagement apart because Mike was playing baseball in Australia and Italy. To make their time apart easier, Annie kept a journal and every day she wrote down something he did that made her love him – most days it was the simplest thing. She presented Mike with the book during their first look.

The ceremony was held on the back lawn behind the Hay home overlooking the Willamette Valley and the foothills outside of Eugene, Oregon.

Mike’s father built them an arch out of Oregon birch from the family tree farm and they stood on a rug they picked up on their travels to symbolize their union and the union of all the things they love.

The bride’s entrance was one she had envisioned since she was a little girl, she had always told her dad he’s better practice walking on those steep stairs because one day he’d have to walk her down them in heels and a long dress. Annie walked down the aisle to Recuerdos De La Alhambra – a classical guitar piece her grandmother walked down the aisle to and one Annie learned to play on her guitar for her grandparents anniversary one year.

The Groom’s life-long friend officiated their wedding (his wife was also their day-of coordinator) The couple also asked a few close friends and family members to come up and share their thoughts on love, marriage, and the path ahead of them.

The bride and groom each exchanged their own handwritten vows, the bride’s began with a little memory from growing up: “When I was a little girl, I often sat up there in that window right above us now and wondered about the man I would stand here with today….”

Annie and Mike got engaged in Italy while Mike was there playing baseball. It was early summer and the start of Aperol Spritz season, so the couple had Aperol Spritzes as their signature cocktail.

Instead of a Groom’s cake, there were two slurpee machines during happy hour to celebrate 7-11-15 and the groom’s childhood tradition of getting a slurpee with his dad on that day every year.

Wood Round Pathway – The Bride and her mom created the wood round pathway using tree branches they cleared from the dinner area during a big storm a few months before the wedding.

Guests were served a full-course, family-style dinner.. The dinner was served on what used to be the family tennis court. Seating was at square, 10-person tables all made by the groom from wood palettes used on his family’s tree farm.

Annie made coasters with maps of Oregon on them for guests’ drinks because the palette tables had gaps between the wood. These coasters also served as the guest favors and table numbers – each coaster had a guest name and the table they were assigned to. It was a way to nod to travel but also send everyone home with a piece of Oregon. Annie even matched the map to a special place she had been to with each guest if she could!!

Annie’s mom and brothers sprinkled wildflowers all around the dinner area in the spring before the wedding – they bloomed just in time and were at their peak the day of the wedding!

The Bride made all of the table linens, napkin rings and napkins herself. She owns a bridal boutique that makes custom linens and veils.

Beer was provided by the Bride’s brother, a brewer, who made 5 different types of beer from local Oregon hops served out of a custom-made Ekstrom Wedding kegerator.

The Bride’s family has close ties to India – The Bride lived there for awhile and her mom was born there, so they provided guests with pashmina’s her mom brought back from India to stay warm during dinner and to add even more color to the day.

The Groom’s mom creates signs that she sells out of her own shop. She created all the signs for the wedding; including the ‘Getting Hitched’ sign that Annie’s dad hung on his tractor and flipped over to say ‘Just Hitched’ after the ceremony.

Annie’s dad had her grandpa’s 1969 VW Bug, Heb, restored to use as the ‘Love Bug’ getaway car

The couple honeymooned in Norway and Iceland where they hiked, biked and went cold-water diving.

DIY Oregon Wedding with an Instagram Love Story

We’ve heard all sorts of love stories over the years on SMP, but this couple who met through an Instagram follow? Well, that might be the sweetest digital “meet cute” yet. This little hashtag chronicles their love story (including when Evan popped the question!) and today we’ve got our hands on their wedding photos from Laura Nelson. Pretty lovers, prepare to lose your cool because the gallery is DIY done totally gorgeous. P.S. Got a love story of your own to share? Tell us with #SMPShareYourStory

From Laura Nelson… #adventureswithevanandsophie is where it all started. Evan and Sophie found each other on instagram, fell in love and pledged their love for each other in front of all their friends and family on a smokey summer day surrounded by vines and pear trees.

From the Bride… Once upon a time I was surfing through Instagram and came across a cute boy. He was a music playing, photo-taking barista. What more could a girl ask for? I decided to follow him so I could continue to gawk over his photos along with his several thousands of other instagram-admirers. Somehow in the midst of social media he noticed me and the rest is now history.

Exactly one year after our first date my best friend was in town visiting from school (little did I know it was all a part of the plan). We decided to all take a hike together to take some pictures and enjoy the crisp fall air. Evan and I were posing for a shot when he started saying all these sweet things in my ear. Next thing I know he was reaching into his pocket, getting down on his knee and asking me to marry him. Of course I said “YES!”

We knew we wanted our wedding to be an outdoor summer wedding and soon as the question was popped I began the planning! We were on a pretty tight budget so I began to teach myself sets of skills that I could use for wedding prep! I took a calligraphy class and had my dad teach me some woodwork skills…then the crafting begun! I cut, stained and painted numerous signs and spent hours working on our invitation suite.

My mom and I collected vintage wine glasses and plates to use on the tables and we went to every estate sale in the valley to find pieces of furniture to use throughout the venue. It was definitely hard work but we were able to have the wedding of our dreams while remaining in our budget!

The ceremony took place in an orchard just two minutes from my childhood home on a warm, smoky day in August. My favorite moment of the day was when I was standing at the altar in my white dress, looking into my groom’s eyes and listening to the sweet words he wrote to me in the letters that we exchanged. All in all we laughed, we cried, we ate tacos and we danced the night away! How much more perfect can it get?

Ethereal Lavender Field Wedding Inspiration

This styled shoot couple? They’re actually a real life duo, and that “groom” had a ring hiding in his pocket the entire time Julie Paisley was snapping behind the camera. He ultimately decided to seal the deal a few days later, but that just made these captures of sweet anticipation all the better. The Vault is your go-to for more images and pinning that vintage Gossamer dress to your heart’s content.

From Julie Paisley… Not every wedding has to be cookie cutter. And, it’s ok to wear color. I’m obsessed with lavender and when I found out that I would be traveling to Oregon and the fields would be in bloom, I KNEW I had to set up a shoot.

I pulled my inspiration from the lavender itself. The vintage dress from Gossamer, the subtile colors in the tie, the florals, it was all just perfect. Of course, having our real life couple, who I found out later that he had an engagement ring in his pocket but was to nervous to propose and waited until a few days later, just added to the shoot. A beautiful location, love and light…sometimes that’s all we need.

Romantic + Elegant Wedding at Bridal Veil Lakes in Oregon

Southern heritage,  Pacific charm, and lakeside loves – this hometown merriment is as cozy as it gets. For these Mississippi residents traveled to the Bride’s home state to make it official in a celebration of family, friends, and elegance that speaks volumes from Lauren Liddell. It’s organic yet refined, romantic yet natural and it’s the type of celebration we’re happy to house in The Vault!

From the Bride… Mike and I live and work in Mississippi, but when we got engaged we knew we wanted to get married in my home state of Oregon. I had been to a wedding many years earlier at Bridal Veil Lakes and knew I wanted to get married there. We researched loads of venues, but none captured everything that is wonderful about the northwest quite like Bridal Veil, located just outside Portland in the Columbia Gorge.

Since many of our guests traveled a long distance for the celebration, we wanted to make sure the weekend was stress free by providing welcome bags and a variety of activities. In true Portland tradition, the food was the highlight of the weekend. The rehearsal dinner menu featured paella and warm banana-cream cheese malassadas, while the reception menu featured beef brisket with smoky BBQ sauce, white cheddar grits, and banana pudding, served family style, a nod to the groom’s southern heritage. Our guests are still raving about the food.

Getting married in the Pacific Northwest, we were lucky enough to have an outdoor venue with loads of natural beauty. Because of that, I wanted a very organic, simple look. We wanted a very intimate feel since many of our guests had travelled far, so dinner was served family style and the tables were full of candlelight.

All paper elements at the ceremony and reception were DIY. I’m lucky to have many talented friends who designed the signage and did the calligraphy for the escort cards. Other DIY elements included the escort card display, the photo booth background, the POP letters at the popcorn station, and the floral monograms over the dance floor.

Being surrounded by friends and family, ages 3 to 93, breaking it down on the dance floor at the end of the night. My dad broke out in Gangnam Style halfway through the night and got the whole crowd dancing. A synchronized dance to Abba’s Dancing Queen may have also went down.
