He ultimately decided to seal the deal a few days later, but that just made these captures of sweet anticipation all the better. From Julie Paisley… Not every wedding has to be cookie cutter. And, it’s ok to wear color. I’m obsessed with lavender and when I found out that I would be traveling to Oregon and the fields would be in bloom, I KNEW I had to set up a shoot.

I pulled my inspiration from the lavender itself. The vintage dress from Gossamer, the subtile colors in the tie, the florals, it was all just perfect. Of course, having our real life couple, who I found out later that he had an engagement ring in his pocket but was to nervous to propose and waited until a few days later, just added to the shoot. A beautiful location, love and light…sometimes that’s all we need.

And this gorgeous inspiration shoot from Christa-Taylor does just that, with a blend of understated elegance, seasonal fruits (real and watercolored!), and cheeky and sweet signage, that all come together to make something truly beautiful. From Christa-Taylor… The rich farmland presents such a vivid array of colors and inspiration for brides in the Northwest. All captured on fine-art film, this shoot was designed around the farm-to-table concept bringing in lush produce, seasonal greens and vendors who highlight the best of what the local farms have to offer.

No event is complete without first sending the invitations, and the hand-calligraphy of Katie Michelle really captured our fancy. Nestled in amongst the peach trees, we festooned the table with an abundance of peonies, poppies, and eucalyptus all the beautiful handiwork of Form and Flora. Square plates brought the perfect touch of modernity complemented by personalized linen napkins and green stemware.

Escort cards were pinned to fresh fruit and doubled as edibles for the guests. Because outdoor events can vary in temperature, we opted for local pies as the star of our dessert bar, with homemade jams as a take-home favor. Mini paper books in customizable color waves made darling bridal party gifts and doodle books for the little ones. Our bride strolled through the trees on the arm of her husband wearing the enviable gowns from Stephanie D Couture. When it was all said and done, I think the thing we loved the most was richness of it all – so much sumptuous colors and textures to soak in. It truly was farm-to-table.

Have you ever been to Bridal Veil Lakes? I never have, but I feel like I’ve been to this land where pretty is ever-present thanks to You Look Nice Today Photography. Their images have transported me from my little desk to this gorgeous lakeside wedding, and I couldn’t be happier. From the beautiful bride … Luke and I met in the sunny state of North Carolina. On our first date, we discovered that we loved each other and that we both shared the dream to move across the country and explore the West coast. We mutually agreed that Portland, Oregon would be an ideal spot to settle as it shared a lot of our common interests and opened the door for career opportunities. A year later we drove across the country and fell in love with the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest.

A quick year and a half later, Luke proposed on top of Rocky Butte on a sunny, pleasant May day. Afterwards, we celebrated with a delicious meal, drinks and a concert that night. We both knew we wanted to get married outside, under the epic trees of Oregon and during the magical season of Summer. If you’ve ever been to Oregon in the Summer, you know it’s a special place. That’s when we found Bridal Veil Lakes; a very beautiful place amidst the trees and flowers, overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. Once we found the venue, everything else seemed to fall into place. At times, wedding planning felt overwhelming and so time consuming, but we absolutely adored all of our vendors. The people involved are really special people and we really felt the love.

Our wedding day was literally sunkissed with magic. That sounds like a cliche, but it’s true. The natural side of the venue inspired most of the wedding. We wanted the day to feel organic, natural, classy yet casual. So many of our guests had traveled far and wide and we wanted them to feel relaxed and enjoy the treasures of the Gorge as most of them had never been to Oregon. As a Graphic Designer, the details and decorations were one of the most exciting part of the planning and watching the event come together was really special. I wanted to create a rustic and texture-inspired setting using vintage pieces that complemented nature. Some of our favorite details (besides local food and beverages) included the paper flowers, hand-made by our wedding planner, Rachel. They were full of texture and added a nice touch to the natural whimsy. Even though Luke and I were wrapped up in each other, we were also very impressed with the lively music – traditional celtic fiddle tunes. Music also played a large theme in the decor. Our shared love of music was an easy way to personalize our day. We spray painted frames to an antique gold and designed the inserts to include vintage piano music (thanks Jane!) layered with our favorite song lyrics used as table decorations. This was pretty inexpensive and they turned out beautifully. Photography was also important to us and knowing that our photographer loved and appreciated the venue made us feel confident that he would capture the light and details perfectly. All of these details made the next feel more special. However, one of the best parts of the weekend was experiencing our families with our closest friends and watching relationships bloom. Sharing an intimate day with almost all of the people you love is an incredible feeling. We are so thankful for all of the love that was shared. It was a truly magical Monday.

From the Bride… I really wanted our wedding to be a crazy DIY undertaking. I am a swimsuit designer (Nike Swim) and really wanted to have fun with our wedding! Design our own invites and save the dates, dip dye and sew my own table runners and curtains. I think by the end the ‘now husband’ had had enough of crafting, but in the end we knew it was all worth it. We got married at The Octagonal Barn at Cornelius Pass Roadhouse, which was an amazing location. It had the right amount of vintage appeal and intimacy we were looking for.

Some of my favorite details of the wedding were the salt & straw scooping up waffle cones, the vintage shutter and ladder alter piece, all my chalkboard signs,  leis for the Groom’s parents as they live, and he grew up in Kauai, Hawaii , and handmade tags for favors and invitations. Also, having my mom be my florist–she owns a flower shop in Roseburg, OR.  She also hand painted the cornhole games. You can also see a few Bunnies hidden through out the wedding as that is my husbands nickname for me “Bunny!”

Our goal was to do the entire wedding for under $15,000, I think we ended up going over a little but still came in really close! Because of the budget we decided to take on a lot of the work ourselves… i.e. no planner!!!! And we also DIY’d practically all the decor. But I really love how everything turned out, and it was all the more special that we had put in the blood, sweat and tears when we saw it all come together.

After spending more time with Rebekah Johnson Photography‘s images of this Oregon wedding that I should probably admit, I still cannot decide what it is that really draws me to this wedding. The floral design from Geranium Lake Flowers is stunning, the Carolina Herrera gown is fab, the entire design of the affair, planned by Ella Events, is top notch. But there is something else. Something in the way he looks at her, and she looks back at him. And the way they both look at the children. It’s like watching a family start. And it’s beautiful. From Geranium Lake Flowers … Love, love, love this wedding palette of kumquat and steel for this destination wedding.  Claire and her handsome groom Jeff are from Seattle and chose the gorgeous Garden Vineyards estate for their summer nuptials.  One of the fun things about working on this wedding was that it was primarily planned by Claire’s mom!  She traveled back and forth from Seattle to Portland to conceptualize everything from  her bouquet to the well wishes chuppah.  Darling!

How is it possible for this Oregon wedding to look so classic, chic, and pretty, yet feel so sweet and easy? I’m totally getting a “This is our big day, and we’re so excited to be married, but we’re so calm and collected” feel from the affair. Such poise radiating from this beautiful couple. Ink & Peat was the talent behind the floral design, and I’m going to have to give them a large portion of the credit of creating the perfect ambiance. It’ll make you wish you had this bride’s demeanor every day of your life.

I fell in love with John because of playfulness and his wit.  After I accepted his proposal, he immediately gave me a card that said, “Congratulations on your engagement.”  Then he cheerfully added, “Allow me to be the first.”

Our wedding was an opportunity to reconnect and revitalize our community.  We chose local vendors from our home in Portland, Oregon and prioritized a lovely setting, delicious food, wonderful music, and a sense of humor.  Family and friends traveled to Garden Vineyards in Hillsboro, Oregon for a garden party.  We greeted guests with family wedding photos and included a snap of our favorite newlyweds, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

Programs with apricot branches designed by Studio Olivine also welcomed guests.  John’s mom made everyone beautiful handkerchiefs, which slid into the programs’ fronts pockets.  Guests posed with silly props to snap instant photos they taped in a handmade guest book.  It is hilarious to see how the pictures evolve throughout the evening.  By the final pages, our cousins are posing with our college friends under wine-infused captions such as “new friends.”

John is a violinist and worked with Classical Revolution PDX to transcribe string music for our ceremony.  We walked down the aisle to Radiohead, the Velvet Underground, and Nina Simone.  Our dear friends Sara-Catherine Wheatley and W.C. Beck also sang tunes by Laura Veirs and Johnny Cash.  The most meaningful part of our ceremony was when we explained why we wanted to marry one another.  John once again cracked everyone up when he said, “I love how you challenge me in overt and subtle ways.  You told me you were tired of cooking most meals, then you bought me a waffle iron.”

Pam Zsorsi, owner of Ink & Peat, designed breathtaking floral arrangements.  Both our moms are avid gardeners and Pam’s creative use of seasonal flowers delighted them.  Pam compiled full centerpieces with peaches and creams punctuated by bright and pale yellows.  She incorporated Karamel Antik garden roses, Peach Avalanche roses, pale peach hypercium, unripe blackberries, peaches and dream dahlias, coxcomb, lemons, and feverfew.

Art of Catering prepared delicious dishes with fresh, local produce.  We served baguettes with salmon terrine, tomato mozzarella on focaccia, and risotto cakes at cocktail stations so everyone could spread out and enjoy the vineyard.  Our family and friends played croquet and drank estate-grown wines.  Bakery Bar made five cakes in flavors ranging from orange poppy seed to red velvet, which we supplemented with miniature lemon-basil and chocolate cinnamon macaroons from Little Bird Bistro.  Kate Greiner made the festive garland we strung as cake toppers.

Once my dad gave his heart-melting toast, W.C. Beck jumped on stage with the band and unexpectedly played Mary Jane’s Last Dance.  You probably remember this as a goodbye love song, with a music video that features Tom Petty on a date with a dead Kim Basinger in a wedding dress.  That didn’t stop anyone from getting on the dance floor, where we celebrated the rest of the night.  It was magical.

We’re featuring a few weddings at Oregon vineyards on the LBB this month, and in case you couldn’t tell – I’m obsessed. This one, sent to us by the fabulous designers at Luxe Event Productions, was captured by Evrim Icoz Photography, and is stunning. Beyond stunning. Vibrant Table Catering and Events outdid themselves with the floral design, and what seems to be a delish looking menu from what I can tell. After this week, Oregon has definitely gained some speed in my travel bucket list, and while I’m there – I’m really hoping to be lucky enough to take in a vineyard wedding half as special as this one. From Luxe Event Productions … Ashley and Mason had a very elegant Oregon vineyard wedding at on of the most coveted places to wed in the north west, Garden Vineyards. There were a lot of great details, from flowers by Page Winograd from Vibrant Table Flowers, to simple yet beautiful place settings, again by Vibrant Table.

They day started at the Nines Hotel, doing some getting ready pictures where Ashley was photographed in the downtown Portland Park Blocks, and Mason and his men stayed at the hotel to play a little pool and relax.

We moved to Garden Vineyards, and continued the day there with live music, signature cocktails and a huge multi course dinner at sunset. From custom suits for the men to sparklers during the first dance to honeymoon in Dubai,this event was a stunner.
