From Rhi of Hey Gorgeous Events… Katie and Bryan are just two incredibly sweet people eagerly awaiting the day they will at long last become husband and wife. Their wedding celebration is set to unfold this December 31 on the ever-fabulous New Years Eve at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati and the couple’s entire team of vendors is so exited! Guests will be treated to not only a one of a kind party leading into 2014, but a special experience infused with personality, detail and lots of love. Their session was shot by the amazing Jen and Jonah this past spring in and around Cincinnati, and included a few nods to their wedding like oversized gold helium balloons and a healthy doze of confetti (details that will surely be seen on the big day). Also making an appearance in the photos is the couple’s adorable dog, Doc. He too is counting down the days until the celebration!

Via Vecchia Winery Winter Wedding

With 2014 just mere hours away, we couldn’t help but kick off the day with a New Year’s “I do.” And this Ohio beauty? It checks every criteria on our winter wedding love list – snowballs and all. Kelly Maughan Photography braved the cold to bring you the most pin-able pretty, and you can head to the gallery for lots, lots more.

From the Bride… While planning our wedding, the most important thing was to ensure that it felt genuine. We tried to not focus on traditions or standards, and instead to just make sure it felt like “us”. We wanted it to be personal, intimate, romantic and comfortable. We also knew that by having a wedding on New Year’s Eve, we had an obligation to entertain our guests and throw a big party—and to be honest, that’s what we were really looking forward to! Lastly, we truly wanted each one of our guests to feel appreciated and welcome, so we spent a lot of time personalizing their experience to really make them a part of the night. And in hindsight, it (somehow) all came together, and was perfect.

Columbus Ohio Wedding from Rouxby + Adrianne Elizabeth Events

When it comes to a SMP-worthy wedding, pretty pictures are a must. Steal-worthy details are at the top of the list as well. A beautiful gown never hurts. But the thing that makes it a YES every time is the palpable love, like that in this wedding from Rouxby. Adrianne Elizabeth Events was inspired by that special bond and planned a beautiful wedding inspired by it!

From the stunning bride… Willy and I met each other in college while at Ohio State; we would see each other when my sorority & his fraternity would get together for social functions…I always thought he was kinda cute and fun, but other than a few interested glances here and there, a relationship didn’t ensue.

Fast forward to seven years later when I ran into him on May 1st 2010. Willy had moved back to Columbus 3 months earlier and I was thrilled to see him as I had always wondered what happened to that cute boy I used to like in college. We were inseparable from that night on. The following day we met for brunch, went to a Columbus Clippers game and had dinner & drinks afterwards. The rest is history…

In the Fall of 2012, Willy and I started planning his lifetime dream vacation, a trip to Alaska. On September 11th, 2012, we were in Ketchikan, Alaska, the first stop of our Alaskan cruise. He had booked an excursion for us to take a seaplane ride. Those who know me, know that I have severe anxiety about flying. Needless to say, I was not excited about the plane ride. The plane landed at a remote dock in Misty Fjords National Monument and I still had no clue my life was about to change for the rest of my life. After a few individual pictures, the pilot asked to take a picture of the two of us. Next thing you know, Willy dropped to his knee and asked me to be his wife!

Planning began a few weeks later and obviously started with wedding dress shopping! The day a girl has dreamed about for forever, the ladies of La Jeune Mariee were amazing! After only 7 dresses, I found the one. If only finding a wedding venue was just as easy!

Willy and I looked at a handful of venues before going with The Columbus Athenaeum. We knew when we had seen the Large Theater that it was perfect, it is such a unique and amazing space.

After finding my dress, I didn’t want Willy to see me before the ceremony until I was walking down the aisle to him. It was definitely worth it, the sight of tears in his eyes and him telling me that I’ve never looked more gorgeous gave me the same butterflies that started in college.

Willy and I had known that if the weather was nice on our wedding day, we wanted to drive off from the church in his 1971 Chevelle. Not only was the weather perfect, but the car made for some of our favorite photo moments.

A few weeks before the wedding, we got this fantastic idea of having The Ohio State Marching Band make a surprise appearance at the reception. It took a few special arrangements by The Athenaeum, DJ and our wedding planner, Adrianne to pull off the surprise for all our guests. In the middle of “Jessie’s Girl”, the music cut off to the disappointment of quite a few groomsmen. In marched the band like a football Saturday in Ohio Stadium. The guests went crazy, and all of the planning was well worth it to see the joy on all of our friends and families faces.

The day was everything I hoped it to be and more. I have never felt more beautiful and loved than I did on that day. The amount of love that Willy and I felt from our friends and families made us both speechless and teary eyed at the end of the night. Seeing all of the people that we love dearly come together for us meant the world to me.

Cincinnati Indian Fusion Wedding from Lang Thomas Photography

I’m a little obsessed with Indian weddings. I think they are so beautiful – bright, vibrant, happy, and they usually include a few dress changes, and that’s never a bad thing. But this one, from Lang Thomas Photography, might just take the elephant-topped cake. Marti’s Floral Designs worked alongside the bride and planner extraordinaire Viva Bella Events to create a wedding that is going to haunt my dreams, in the very best way possible!

From the photographer… My husband and I just shot an incredible wedding and it was too good to not send your way. It was unlike any wedding we’ve seen before—not only was the wedding treated as a joining of two families, but two cultures as well. The bride (from India) and the groom (from Cincinnati) put forth a great effort to stylistically marry their two backgrounds. It played out as an elaborate, colorful wedding, full of amazing food, lots of elephants, beautiful dress, and a memorable ping-pong match.

Some of the special touches of the day – sari’s worn by bride and several bridesmaids, hand drawn elephant guest book (by the bride), clay elephant cake toppers (by the bride), the henna tattoos on all the bridesmaids, the historic castle and grounds that hosted the ceremony and reception, the literal “tying the knot” Indian custom, unique rings, table settings + floral, and the ping pong match that introduced the bride and groom (they met playing ping pong during their study breaks in med school).

Cincinnati Wedding from Kortnee Kate Photography + Voila Cinematic

I adore the couple who stands the test of time before they even set one foot down the aisle. It’s just such a testament to the love that they will have as a married couple. Today we’ve got all that and a gorgeous wedding to boot! Both Kortnee Kate Photography and Voila Cinematic were on the scene of this beautiful wedding and we’re kind of obsessed.

When we heard Voila Cinematic had a video to share, we couldn’t say yes quickly enough!

From the beautiful bride… Gene and I started dating in high school and continued dating long distance all through college. He proposed at the end of his second year of medical school, after I had just finished my Masters finals. We set a date of April 6, 2013, just after he matched to a residency program, giving us a two year engagement. It was so much fun to relax and enjoy being engaged for a whole year before really starting to plan a wedding.

From the start, we wanted a wedding that would honor our love for each other but also celebrate the love we have for our incredible family and friends. We also wanted to incorporate elements of our Cincinnati hometown, New England life, and future life in Durham, North Carolina (he matched to Duke, his #1 choice!). The ceremony, music, and service was the time for us to let the busyness of the day come to an end and officially become husband and wife. The cocktail hour and reception were our way of saying thank you to our guests for being such big parts of our lives.

Since we had been to many events at this country club, the little details made all the difference for us. We chose bright coral bridesmaids dresses (we, because Gene went with us!), white with French blue paper goods, and a really fun, local live band. Our E&E wedding logo, signature Mint Juleps (we got engaged on Derby Day), photo booth, and stunning flowers transformed the space into the perfect night for our guests to have a great time.

Were a very traditional couple, so a few family traditions were especially special to us. We used a cake knife from Genes family that matched the set of sterling left to us by his late grandmother. My bouquet was covered in the same ribbon as my cousins was five years before, wrapped in my grandmothers lace handkerchief, and decorated with some of my late Papa’s pins. When I picked up the bouquet for the first time, I felt surrounded by so much family love.

Though very traditional, we did decide to do a first look… one of our most favorite moments of the day. At first we were worried it would take away from the ceremony, but instead it gave us the time to enjoy a very emotional moment to ourselves, one that was perfectly captured by Voila Cinematic and Kortnee of Kortnee Kate Photography. They are both such incredible vendors, I cant rave enough about how they kept us laughing the whole day! My bridesmaids and cousin Jocelyn (our volunteer weekend-of coordinator) kept the whole day running smoothly behind the scenes – something I’m incredibly grateful for, since we planned the whole day ourselves.

Even given the two year notice about the date, we were astounded by how many of our guests took time to travel to Ohio for our wedding – 242 out of 250 invited guests from all over the world. Walking down the aisle with my Dad towards my soon-to-be husband, in room full of everyone we’ve both grown up with and love, was a really incredible (and emotional!) feeling. Dancing the night away to Jack Garrett’s music was such a blast, and kept guests of all ages out on the dance floor all night long. We were certainly blessed on that day and are so grateful that is how we started our married life together.

Copper Inspired Wedding Shoot from House of Earnest

Metallics are sort of the cool kid on the block when it comes to weddings. They add a bit of edge to anything they’re paired with and are finding their way into wedding palettes all across the board. And while we happen to be a teensy bit partial to gold (we’ll gild almost anything!), House of Earnest has officially proven cooper can be equally as elegant. You’ll find every detail of this metallic mashup with a gorgeous bride styled by Lisa Sullivan Events in Benjamin Lowry’s full gallery right here.

From House of Earnest… Move over gold! Copper is a beautiful new metallic that pairs well with white and ivory as well as with naturals and blush tones. In this styled wedding shoot, Erin from House of Earnest was inspired by The beauty of the autumn season and how well rich green and light orange-pink play off of gorgeous copper for a more unique fall event.

Strong and earthy olive branches and magnolia leaves ground the light-as-air garden roses while metallic copper hobnail glass and lengths of tulle and lace add the perfect pinch of femininity. Hand scripted guest names float on panels of copper, the wedding invitation sweet is adorned with the same mix of soft and colorful florals with hints of copper.

Backyard Picnic Wedding from Lily Glass Photography

This is genius, I tell you: a short lace dress from Madewell paired with a tulle skirt overlay and voila! wedding dress perfection. The other genius part of this day is the uber sweet, totally love-filled picnic wedding complete with blankets in the grass and peach favors from The Peach Truck. It’s beautiful and the photographs from Lily Glass are guaranteed to leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling. Grab a looky loo at the rest of the day here.

From Lily Glass Photography… I had the pleasure of photographing Arthur + Reika Kadlec’s simple yet stunning summer wedding. They were married during an intimate family ceremony in an old stone chapel in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, on June 8th with a picnic reception at Art’s childhood home to follow. Reika’s dress was a labor of love as she searched for the perfect style, finally creating one herself pairing a short lace dress from Madewell with a custom-made sheer skirt.

Every detail of their wedding day was meaningful and intentional — from the vintage china to grandma’s linens, to the juicy delicious peach favors their friends from The Peach Truck brought up from Nashville, to their choosing a caterer that provides not only delicious food but also social justice (Freedom a la cart).

Art and Reika have such a sincere love that encourages and sharpens those with whom they come into contact — their love makes you want to love better, to love genuinely. And so it was no surprise that their wedding was a celebration to begin their lives together, but also a downright party during which they danced and hugged and high-fived the friends and family that they hold so dear. There were folks from all over the world and never have I seen wedding guests intermingle so well as this evening, which I think testifies greatly to the kind of folks that Art+Reika are.

Aurora, Ohio Wedding from Arielle Doneson Photography

If Arielle Doneson Photography shoots it, it’s automatically added to my favorites list. Seriously, everything this girl touches is golden, but when you start out with a wedding that is knock your socks off stunning then add Arielle’s seasoned eye into the mix, it’s golden and then some. Not to mention, the bride’s sister is Lauren Chism Fine Papers – swoon. I’m 100% completely obsessed with this wedding!

From the photographer… In the gorgeous light of pastoral Aurora, OH, Carley and John married in a traditional ceremony surrounded by 230 of their nearest and dearest in a wedding that was a perfect blend of traditional, rustic and elegant.

Carley is fortunate enough to have brilliant stationer, Lauren Chism, as her older sister which meant that her paper suite was flawless – a mixture of charming gilded calligraphy and a beautiful patterned paisley letterpress.

The colors of the day continued the theme of muted golds, and silvers (as highlighted by the 1920’s inspired bridesmaid’s cocktail dresses,) and coral accents like those seen in Carley’s elegant Prada shoes. These elegant touches were a dramatic compliment to her delicate lace gown. I was absolutely obsessed with her bouquet: a combination of rustic herbs (lavender, and other seasonal offerings,) with the classic elegance of peonies and traditional ivy. Needless to say it smelled divine!

Following their deeply emotional and heartfelt ceremony, the couple found themselves whisked away to the reception under a shower of tossed lavender in a fabulous vintage Cadillac.

Their ballroom reception featured centerpieces that seemed effortlessly handpicked from a perfectly manicured wildflower and herb garden, a trio of cakes which appeared frosted by hand with decadent buttercream, and more beautiful calligraphy touches by Courtnie Johnson of Poppy Pedals.

I felt so honored to be a part of capturing this beautiful love story on film. As the cloudy sky burst into a gorgeous Ohio sunset right as we began their portraits I felt that I was part of something truly miraculous! Congrats Carley and John!

Ohio Wedding from Heather Waraksa

Woven in the depths of this beautiful day is a love story that spans across the world and back. From a college anthropology class to a sabbatical in South Africa, these two lovies planned their long-awaited wedding with no shortage of heart, soul, and homage to their adventures along the way. Heather Waraksa snapped up every can’t-miss moment, and there’s more sitting pretty right here.

And don’t you dare miss Nathan Pickett Films amazing capture of the day!

From the Bride…We met in college, where we both studied anthropology (with the same advisor!) – but didn’t know each other much at all. After graduation, we both moved to South Africa (Steve a year before me), where we worked for an NGO called mothers2mothers (which tries to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV)  and started dating.

From Heather Waraksa…In Ohio, the couple was married in Amy’s parents’ backyard. The wedding took take place on June 30, the day following her grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary and two days prior to her parents’ 35th anniversary. In lieu of a rehearsal dinner, the ceremony was preceded by an ‘80s-themed Pre-Party, complete with an “’80s Prom Chic” dress code. The party featured a live show by Rubix Kube, a Manhattan-based ‘80s cover band, on the Main Stage of Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A Jewish ceremony was officiated by Rabbi Richard Block, Amy’s family’s rabbi. Prior to the ceremony, the couple’s close friend and mentor, Katherine Halsey, a French and English teacher at the Thatcher School in Ojai, California, who met the couple while on sabbatical at mothers2mothers in 2006, officiated a “Reflections” ceremony inspired by Quaker wedding ceremonies the couple have attended. Andre Biehl, the son of Professor João Biehl, their shared advisor at Princeton, served as ring bearer. Andre was actually born during that fateful first medical anthropology course in 2001.

“The two celebrations evoke all the things that are important to us,” says Steve, “friends, family, silliness, devotion to a social cause, good food, good wine, and adventures that bring together our disparate communities.” For a couple whose lives have been so similar for so long, the moment for finally uniting them and their communities has been a very long time coming indeed.

Columbus, Ohio Wedding from Studio Uma

This wedding from Studio Uma is a slight departure from the typical SMP wedding, but the feeling I was overwhelmed with when I first opened up the images, was the same excited, giddy happiness I get with every wedding we feature. The teeny, tiny church where the whole wedding took place was so cozy and simply oozed romance out of every beautiful nook and cranny. The perfect makings of an SMP wedding, if you ask me. Click here to see the whole thing!

From the stunning bride … Since leaving Columbus after law school graduation in 2007, Dave and I have always missed the area and all of the friendly faces there. After Dave proposed to me in 2011, Columbus was at the top of the list for wedding locations – with most of my family in Dayton and so many of our friends in Columbus. We also thought it would be so wonderful to return to the place where we first met to exchange our vows. It would also be a great chance to share the city with our new friends in Washington, D.C., our hometown at the time, and our family from across the country and Dave’s family from around the world.

We first looked at a couple of grand cathedrals in the city, but ultimately we settled on a small church in the quiet Columbus suburb of Grandview. It wasn’t until we traveled there after we were engaged that I remembered the church from our time in Columbus. My best friend lived down the street and I remember passing by and thinking how quaint the church was! One look inside and we knew the small, historic church was the perfect place – we thought that it would be so wonderful on our wedding day to fill the church completely with our guests. It also made the ceremony more intimate.

We opted not to have the ceremony videotaped so that the feeling of our quaint, family-inspired ceremony only remains in our memories. Looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing. Although I’m sure small things here and there went wrong- we have nothing but wonderful memories from a wonderful day.

They’re filled with so many fabulous details and captured so lovely (by Joey Kennedy Photography, no less) that you just can’t pick a favorite moment. From the beautiful bride … Chad and I began dating during our first year of college at Walsh University. We lived four doors down from each other during our Freshman year and met the first week of classes while I was waiting in the hallway for a friend. We struck up a conversation that led to many more conversations.

Our love took us to Pittsburgh together, and it flourished in the “City of Bridges” amid the late night study sessions and hectic schedules. Chad proposed on his birthday (December 5th) while we were visiting the big Christmas tree in the middle of Downtown Pittsburgh.

The day of the wedding was so exciting! It was incredible to be surrounded by all our family and friends. We really wanted to throw a fun party for everyone to show how much we appreciated all their love and support. The best part of the day was the first-look session with Chad and I. It was so surreal to have such an intimate moment between the two of us while there was so much going on all around us and it was the perfect way to kick off all the festivities.

From JPC Event Group … The architecture and art of the Butler Institute of American Art created an amazing backdrop to the day that Jessica and Chad had crafted to be elegant and filled with family. The museum is the first American art museum in the United States and was dedicated in 1919 on the campus of Youngstown State University. Jessica has fond memories of art classes and field trips to the museum during her childhood.

Golden vintage touches graced the tables accented by handmade gem garnished napkin rings created by the bride as wedding favors and centerpieces of wedding cake created by JPC Event Group. Family members lovingly created thousands of cookies for the requisite Pittsburgh cookie table, furthering the atmosphere of family and love that prevailed.

Guests were greeted by a champagne bellini station and butler passed appetizers featuring mini sonora pork confit tacos topped with grilled pineapple habenero salsa paired with mini margaritas, pasta and meatball crostini forks and mini grilled cheese with tomato basil bisque shots. Dinner was served family style to further create the convivial family atmosphere with upscale comfort foods and a cotton candy station was a final whimsical touch served among the portraiture of the museum during dancing to the club vibe created by DJ Bill Bara.

From The Finer Things Event PlanningAmanda and Jonathan reside in Washington D.C. but chose Columbus, Ohio as their destination wedding location. Amanda and Jon met and fell in love in college, at The Ohio State University of course! The ceremony and reception took place at a historical location in Columbus, Ohio, The Athletic Club. A unique venue that adds a touch of warmth and class to every event it houses. Amanda and Jon chose to express their wedding through adding unique shabby, chic touches. As Amanda and Jon gave their vows in front of the large fireplace lined with candles, a dear friend of the Bride and Groom presided over the ceremony. Classical string musicians filled the air. The whimsical flowers in shades of pink adorned by mason jars that complimented the warm gold chairs. The bride’s grandfather, an avid book collector loaned Amanda and Jon stacks of his favorite books to decorate the guest, escort card display. Jon did an amazing job putting together his very own photobooth where guest took many playful photos. Ending the night, an Ohio tradition… the famous Graeter’s Ice Cream Bar where guest created their own sundaes with their favorite local ice cream.

Columbus Wedding from Benjamin James + Emilie Duncan Event Planning

Rooftop weddings are the ultimate in chic, but this one from Emilie Duncan Event Planning is also romantic, sweet, and pretty as can be. The venue provided for some absolutely stunning images from Benjamin James Photography, but the adorable couple and all their nearest and dearest were the center of some of our favorite images. Rooftop

From the lovely bride … I met Brad through mutual friends at a concert and two years later he popped the question during a trip to central Europe, a question that proved so surprising I often struggle to remember everything he said. The next year of planning was a continued blur, the amount of planning that goes into one day is truly overwhelming at times. I knew that I wanted the perfect mix of vintage and romantic, urban while not too modern and as intimate as possible even though I knew we’d be expecting a large guest list. That is where Emilie Duncan stepped in and really made our vision a reality.

From the first visit, we knew that we wanted the downtown Columbus rooftop venue, an unrealistic dream for August in the Midwest however we decided it was worth the risk (I think I spent a year with my fingers crossed). Over the next several months I swallowed the reality that we may very well be inside as August tends to be hot, humid and rainy. As the big day approached, I began to realize that when it comes to weddings you really cannot plan for everything, who would have thought that the forecast could be calling for cold weather and high winds? Luckily the weatherman got this one wrong, and the day was absolutely perfect.

We tried to incorporate our passion for travel which was the basis for our table names and guestbook. The venue was scattered with old vintage books, birdcages, picture frames and handmade touches that were either ours or borrowed from close friends, together it helped to bring a little vintage detail to mix with the urban locale for a more intimate feel. We involved friends and family whenever possible, including my aunt sewing my great-great-grandmother’s locket into my dress (as I was dressing!), a family member performing the ceremony, our eighteen person wedding party, and the touching ceremony speeches by two very important people in our lives.

For the wedding party attire I really wanted something that was comfortable and simple while still semi-formal. We selected floor length chiffon dresses and let the girls pick their style and color, while the boys opted for navy suits adding a bit of flair with plaid shirts and Puma sneakers. We spent the time during cocktail hour to take the wedding party on a trolley ride around town and stopping at our favorite local bar. We were really grateful that we made that decision and got to spend some quality time with the group before heading back for the reception.

The entertainment was a top priority for us, we wanted to ensure that everyone simply had a great time, and the Conspiracy Band really delivered on that. From the beginning to the very end, the dance floor was never empty (we even decided to forgo the planned bouquet/garter toss to continue the party). Highlights include an impromptu version of “We Are Family” with all of my bridesmaids and a unique version of “Ice Ice Baby” sung by the best man, which I believe all of downtown Columbus had the pleasure of hearing. The night wrapped up with a late night snack of mini burgers and cookies.

Looking back I know that I could not have done this without Emilie’s help, all of the wonderful work of our vendors, and most importantly the support of our friends and family. We are forever grateful. Every detail pulled together perfectly and really was everything we had envisioned. To top everything off, we had the most amazing photographer who is not only the best at his job but also a wonderful human being and a pleasure to work with, I am so thankful for his ability to capture how great this day really was.

Winter Wedding Inspiration from Arielle Doneson Photography

When rich colors, refined textiles, luxe details, and gorgeous images all get together they make layer upon layer of romantic wedding style. Brought to us by the lovely and talented, Arielle Doneson Photography and Baci Designer this Anna Karenina themed photo shoot is enchanting inspiration for a totally couture celebration. The florals are positively bursting with beauty. The bride’s style is glamorous and captivating all at once (p.s. her hair is divine!). Every ounce is truly delicious and you can see the rest of this masterpiece right here in the gallery.

From Arielle Doneson… A collaboration between Arielle of Arielle Doneson Photography and Amanda of Baci Designer, this Winter Styled shoot is inspired by the look of the new Joe Wright film of Tolstoy’s masterpiece, Anna Karenina. We wanted to showcase the lush, aristocratic style of 19th Imperial Russia so beautifully captured by Mr. Wright (the mastermind behind visually stunning films like Pride and Prejudice and Antonement.) We chose to shoot on medium format film and we are so excited to share the resulting images with you!

Amanda of Baci Desiger headed the event design for the shoot – consulting and collaborating with us all along the way. We found the most perfect location right in the heart of Akron – The Perkins Stone Mansion. Completed in 1837, the Mansion is now an historical house museum full of so much beauty and charm. The grounds are even more breathtaking – the perfect place for an intimate ceremony and reception! We then decided on a wintery color palette of ivory, silver, red, oxblood and black – we also knew we wanted to incorporate as much luxe textile as possible with fur, feathers, silk, and velvet. We truly wanted the shoot to exude the richness and luxury of 19th Century Russian opulence.

Baci Designer created the stationery for the day. Starting with the invitation suite printed in black ink on silvery gray textured stock – each piece became an inspiration for the shoot itself. The invitation was completed with a layer of maroon linen backing, a black velvet ribbon and a beautiful fleur de lis wax seal with just the perfect touch of feathers. The main and reply envelopes – both in a soft ivory – were finished off with reproduction Russian postage. Baci Designer also created a simple, yet gorgeous escort card display incorporated into the mansion’s beautiful outdoor arbor.

The florals, by Amy of Bouquet Studio, featured white and red ranunculus, red and white roses and garden roses, burgundy calla lilies, white and ivory snowberry, burgundy scabiosa, white & chocolate queen Anne’s Lace, white, ivory & green dendrobium orchids along with mixed foliage of clemantis, ivy, mixed herbs & silvery dusty miller. Amy created not only the arbor florals, but all the designs on the main and dessert tables.

The main table, a gorgeous eight foot farmhouse table provided by Borrow Vintage + Eclectic Rentals, was topped with three scrollwork black runners and burgundy napkins from Sitting Pretty Linens. Each place setting of Lenox Lace Couture Dinnerware was finished with a simple white ranunculus and feather combination. A gorgeous silver footed floral piece, pillar candles and cranberries came together as the perfect centerpiece. Adding finishing touches to the main table were a wax seal and feathered table number, Russian “husband” and “wife” chair signs tied with lace and quite possibly the most fabulous pomegranate place cards!

Bittersweet’s Chocolate and Pastry’s nearly three-foot tall beauty of a cake was the main highlight of our dessert table – an authentic millstone repurposed from the mansion’s earlier times. The silver and red fondant cake was topped with an incredible faberge-like egg made all of chocolate! Bittersweet’s also provided gorgeous handmade truffles (topped with matryoshky nesting doll or fabergé egg images,) and Russian Tea Cakes that were not only great to look at, but delicious to snack on throughout the shoot! The dessert table was accented with a black pin-tuck runner, vintage novels, fruits, florals, fur and lovely hand painted Ukranian pysanky Eggs.

Something White Bridal Boutique lent us so many beautiful items! From the stunning Madeline gown and Dana lace jacket, to the jeweled sash, feathered fascinator, pearl necklace, and deep jade green earrings, we turned our bride into an updated version of a princess at an imperial ball in Tolstoy’s time.

Ramona Dauksa Studio provided the hair and makeup look for our shoot. Inspired by images in Vogue magazine of a recent shoot with Keira Knightely, we went with a berry stained lip and a subtle yet soulful smoky eye in plums and browns. One of the universally favored aspects of the shoot was the half-updo Ramona created, using some of the model’s natural wavy texture with small chignons at the crown to add a touch of drama.

Victorian Trading Co. offered to lend us some period appropriate outdoor accessories to complete the look of our 19th Century Russian scene.

Ohio Wedding from Marti’s Floral Designs + Adrianne Elizabeth Events

Naturally, my morning routine starts with a little Tour de SMP, but I have a feeling I’m not the only one who likes to settle into my day with some wedding eye candy. And if you ask me, this springtime soirée is just what you need to get geared up for your Tuesday. I’ve always been smitten with a good rainy day romance and this Cincinnati wedding is no exception. With drool-worthy florals from Marti’s Floral Designs and first-class coordination from Adrianne Elizabeth Events, this fresh Ohio fête is totally in line with the couple’s carefree style. Thanks to the lovely images by Amanda Julca Photography, there is even more of this preppy garden party right here for your viewing pleasure.

From the Bride… Before Nick and I even got engaged we talked about what we wanted in a wedding. We had imagined a beach wedding with our family and closest friends surrounding us to celebrate. Something intimate yet also unbelievably fun. The reality of our dream became more and more complex after we got engaged and started looking for that perfect destination. Having a true Catholic ceremony was very important to us and we realized that this couldn’t happen with our toes in the sand… so after a very fun site inspection in Florida, we went back to the drawing board!

With only six months until our wedding, we knew we had to quickly move onto Plan B! With the support of my amazing family and wedding planner, we decided that the things that were important to us could happen locally, in my hometown, of Cincinnati, Ohio. At the end of the day, the most important of these things, was getting married to each other!

Although I didn’t envision a traditional “fairy tale” wedding, I did want to experience some of the traditions that make a wedding day so very special, like cutting the cake and sharing first dances with my new husband and father. I was determined to have a wedding that Nick and I could both enjoy, a day where we would feel comfortable, and to provide a special and intimate experience for my guests.

Some of my favorite details of the day were the amazing 19th century chapel we were married in (St. Clare), the reception venue (the comfortable and beautiful Lyceum, which felt more like a home than a venue), our lovely décor (most especially, the doilies that were my great grandmother’s), accented by our beautiful florals and greens! I especially loved the rosemary awaiting guests at their place settings. My gentleman guests’ favorite experience at the wedding: THE CIGAR BAR!

We worked with the best people in the state of Ohio to make our day perfect. Once our BIG DAY came, it was amazing! Not even the April showers could put a damper on things. It may sound cliché to say, but it was the best day of my life, or at least so far…

Art Deco Inspired Cincinnati Wedding from Viva Bella Events

When today’s gorgeous bride said I do to her handsome-as-can-be Marine they did it in all out Art Deco elegance. With bold, vintage-inspired details this Cincinnati soiree is one for the record books. Captured by Blink of an Eye Photography, the amazingly intricate cake by Sugar Realm was enough to sweep me off my feet. Then there were the luscious florals by Yellow Canary, jaw-dropping décor, and incredible architectural accents all wrapped up in one totally glamorous gold bow by Viva Bella Events and I was utterly captivated. This shimmering celebration is truly a gift from the wedding gods and you can join the party right here in the gallery.

From Viva Bella Events… While Branson was deployed with his Marine Reserve Unit in Afghanistan, Tasha dreamt of fabulous wedding and celebration no one would soon forget. With Tasha, her parents, and the viva bella events team “Team Sandler” was formed to ensure Tasha’s vision came to life in time for Branson’s homecoming. Inspired by the Cincinnati Hilton Netherland Plaza’s art deco design, she envisioned unique patterns and glamorous gold accents combined with personal vintage details.

Tasha’s birdcage veil and accent hairpin perfectly suited her dress. Her something blue was a family treasure– her great grandmother’s carousel horse pin attached to a light blue velvet garter. The groom and groomsmen wore vintage bar pins in lieu of boutonnieres. The brides’ personal brooch collection was used in her bouquet and embellished the reception centerpieces, including horseshoes for good luck, Branson’s initials, even some special brooches from the groom’s grandmother.

The viva bella team incorporated the colors and styling of the Hilton Netherland Plaza’s Continental Ballroom into the ceremony décor to accentuate the unique architecture of Cincinnati in the 1920’s. With it’s beautiful murals and original chandeliers, the ballroom set the stage for the romantic Jewish ceremony. Gold chiavari chars with black seat covers were accented with golden branches with crystal berries for aisle décor. The glittery gold aisle runner from Original Runners set the stage for Tasha’s “glitter runway dreams”. One of Tasha’s favorite elements of the ceremony was the procession of the “Glitter Girl”, instead of flower girl, who tossed gilded flower petals.

The reception was held in the Hilton Netherland Plaza Hall of Mirrors with its jaw-dropping two-story balcony and gilded mirrors. Focused lighting in warm gold accented every guest table, as well as, creating a spectacular look at the ceiling. With escort cards displayed in crystals, shimmery gold linens, textured gold chargers, and crystals dripping from the luxurious florals, guests felt as if they were entering an old Hollywood soirée Cincinnati style!

Definitely a highlight of the reception was the grand wedding cake. Sugar Realm bakery of Cincinnati really took the Art Deco theme to another level with their custom creation. To find the perfect cake topper, Tasha chose an antique perfume bottle to complete the look. The cake was so intricate and beautiful, the couple weren’t even sure they wanted to cut into this work of art during the reception!

Taking iconic Cincinnati architecture and coupling it with Tasha’s love of all things gold and glittery, viva bella events and “Team Sandler” created a truly glamorous and unforgettable evening.

Handcrafted Mosaic Inspiration Shoot from Lauren Gabrielle Photography + A Charming Fête

When Lauren Gabrielle Photography and A Charming Fête set out to make inspiration that exudes artsy, vibrant details they hit that nail RIGHT on the head. This shoot takes eclectic to a whole new level of pretty. And it has details that can be pulled apart and folded into your day one by one or, if you’re anything like me, you can take the whole lot and plop them right into your affair; color explosion included. Click here for the FULL gallery of goodness.

From A Charming Fête… We were inspired by the idea of a mosaic in bright and vibrant colors -but in a much less traditional sense. We captured this essence through the use of texture and shapes in nearly all elements –from the bright flowers (garden roses, cockscomb, protea and dahlias) to the colored vintage glassware, tons of DIY yarn details, wooden floral lattice backdrop and brightly colored macaroon tower- all nods to the mosaic inspiration. We stumbled across this cosmic-graphic print fabric and it really captured our idea of an amped-up, contemporary mosaic- and served as our color palette. It juxtaposed perfectly with vintage details in a natural setting to create a unique, old-meets-new vibe. We really wanted to play on the bright pops color (oranges, corals, pinks and blues) through our detail elements which were balanced so nicely by bronze and neutral undertones. We did not want the design and color palette to be definitive of one particular season… but we decided to style the bride in a chic, fall-ready look.

Tablescape, Flowers and Backdrop–A cultural garden with a triple-arch architectural detail was the perfect setting for the shoot. We used a reclaimed wood table with bentwood farm chairs to create natural, organic base. We made a runner using a bit of the graphic fabric described above. We topped the table with eclectic, colored vintage glassware and created lush floral arrangements in white vintage milk glass. We used a combination of fresh-picked wild flowers and higher-end stems (such as David Austin garden roses) to create visual interest and varying texture. We also incorporated tons of DIY details made from brightly colored yarn, from the heart-shaped pompom chair swags (with a pseudo “mosaic” effect), coffee-stained hang tag seating cards and wooden candlestick holders. We wanted some unexpected color in our place setting and accomplished this through tumblers and wine glasses in shades of amber, peach and turquoise (some vintage and some Anthropologie) and blue lattice, milk glass salad bowls. The menus were also DIY and created in the same color palette as the seating cards. We made a colorful backdrop using a basic wooden garden lattice and tons of wild flower stems, which were easily popped right into the accordion creases.

Dessert–We went the less traditional route and used a bright macaroon tower and shapely petit fours in lieu of a cake. We worked with Coquette, a local French patisserie to achieve the perfect sweets combination and color palette. We created the “SUGAR” yarn art using a vintage white door, a box of nails and some colored yarn. We added some colored vintage glassware and displayed some of the dessert items on a tall, tiered, weathered wood stand. We also incorporated a small, ornate table that was up-cycled using some turquoise paint.

Fashion–We added a skinny leather belt to the bride’s vintage-inspired lace gown (designed by Laura Smith of A Bride’s Design). We also added a cropped leather jacket in a camel shade, gray suede mary janes, and a one-of-a-kind necklace created from hand-painted vintage lace. The bride also wore a third generation, gold heirloom watch. We kept the groom’s look equally cool with a tailored European gray suit, linen bowtie and a pair of brown leather Ferragamos. The bride’s bouquet had the same vibe as the centerpieces and was created using a mix of wild flowers and garden roses. We wrapped the bouquet in vintage cream lace and tied it off with a bit of brightly colored yarn and a peach ornament accent.

Other Details–We also incorporated a giant gold-gilded mirror and a hand carved wooden king’s chair as decorative accents. And we couldn’t resist using the vintage red Mercedes convertible. It was the perfect get-away car for this uber-cool couple. We created a simple “ever after” garland, some yarn pompoms and wrapped tin cans in bright yarn to attach to the back of the car.

Kettering, Ohio Wedding from Tracy Doyle Photography

It is only fitting that the most important day in the lives of you and your love be a true labor of love, no? A family working together to cut, sew, and glue together a wedding from scratch can warm my heart on the coldest of cold days, which is why I capital LOVE this Ohio wedding. Tracy Doyle Photography captured a day filled with so much love – and so many lovely projects – that will live beautifully forever in our gallery!

My husband and I were high school sweethearts, and had been dating for 6 years. When he proposed to me in November we knew we wanted a short engagement, and knew we had a lot of planning to do in a short amount of time. However, we were both heavily involved in school, so our time was limited. Right away we employed family members to help us with the wedding, especially since my family is very crafty. We hired my sister, an art major, to help make a lot of the decorations and also wedding planning. We involved my mom in making the groomsmen’s ties and in making my going away dress.

I knew I wanted our wedding to be laid back, but still chic at the same time. We made sure our wedding reflected what we wanted as a couple. We wanted our wedding and venue to be vintage rustic chic, so when we stumbled upon our venue that had an 1800’s barn with exposed beams and antique lanterns, we knew that it was the place for our reception. Our handmade style lent well to the overall feel of the barn. Plus, making everything ourselves was a really good way of putting our own personal feel to the barn, and it also helped us stay on budget!

We also kept within the budget by borrowing from others, doing a lot of research, and bargain shopping online. As soon as we got engaged I started collecting mason jars from antique stores, flea markets, and borrowed from friends. We found vintage lace online to wrap around a lot of the jars, and the rest were wrapped in jute rope to add variety. One of my favorite decoration ideas was our place cards for the seating arrangements. My husband and I tied paper lace die cut outs with yellow and grey yarn to the rim of every guests mason jar cup and labeled them with their name. The table numbers were made for about a $1.50 a piece. The frames were purchase in bulk from Ikea, and the papers fans were hand made from scrap paper we had left from the fan mural that was behind the head table. Many weddings now are using burlap and it’s great for the price. We put white burlap in the frames and cut out numbers from yellow paper. They didn’t look like cheap projects when they were finished, but that just goes to show if you do your research and you’re determined enough you can make an Ikea picture frame look chic!

Since we didn’t want flowers other than the bouquets and boutonnieres, there was only a small amount of our budget dedicated. We found a florist in the area that would order all of the flowers for the bouquets and boutonnieres, and would waived a big labor fee if you came in and assembled everything yourselves. So that’s what we did. We showed up to the flower retailer the day before the wedding and put together all of the bridesmaid’s bouquets, family corsages, and the men’s boutonnieres. I also was very picky about the bridesmaids, and groomsmen’s outfits. I wanted something that everyone would be comfortable in, and would want to wear again. We decided on just simple sundresses for the girls, and nice suit pants and dress shirts for the guys with suspenders.

When deciding how we would leave the reception, I thought it would be fun to have noise instead of sparklers or ribbon dancers. A lot of our inspiration came from vintage ideas, so we decided to use replicas of old vintage metal noisemakers. However, we didn’t realize how loud it would be! There was a deafening sound of people waving noisemakers, and blowing on kazoos. It was definitely one of my favorite moments, because it was a testament to how many supportive friends and family we had all the way to the end.

Many people have asked how we were able to have a do it yourself wedding and get everything done in the amount of time we had. I always say it’s because we started super early, had a supportive family, and there were lots of craft parties with snacks!

Galena Wedding at Freeman’s Farm from Three Nails Photography

The first time I was ever introduced to Three Nails Photography  was when I wrote about Hunter Leone’s very own wedding that he helped shoot! To this day I don’t know how he pulled that one off but he did and it was beyond beautiful with 102 comments to prove it. That was just the beginning of a long line of beauty he’s sent our way. All shot to perfection and all with a flair for vintage like this Ohio number planned by Lisa Sullivan Events along with florals by MadisonHouse Designs. See it all right here.

From the Bride… Our wedding day seemed to pass by like a dream! Our wedding party started off getting ready at the Polaris Hilton a few miles away from the farm. I opted to let my girls pick their own light beige dresses, and the groomsmen wore classy tan suits.  We had no idea what the girls’ dresses would all look like together until the day of the wedding, and it was sooo fun to see how they all coordinated together so beautifully! Our wedding party was (ridiculously) huge, and we did get a little teasing about it at first. But then we got to share how incredibly blessed we are to have such amazing, loving friends. The fun part of having a wedding is you can break all the “rules” and make it representative and true to who you and your groom are.

Ben and I decided to do a first look before the wedding, so our wedding party headed over to the farm on a trolley. I nervously rode over with my mom and met Ben on a bridge at a corner of the farm. As we met each other, our wedding planner (Lisa Sullivan) blared our wedding CD throughout the farm. (We gave our guests this CD as a favor.) It truly felt like a dream, and Ben and I both felt a huge sense of relief and joy upon seeing each other. We knew we wanted our wedding outside on a farm with a barn of some sort, and Freeman’s Farm in Galena, Ohio provided the PERFECT setting. The farm accommodated our large number of guests, and the Freeman family was so amazing to work with. It really took my breath away to see the farm set up with all of our wedding details. Our florists and event designers (Madison House Designs) did an outstanding job! I am so proud of their hard work and attention to the tiniest of details. They are truly phenomenal! Our reception was a party to say the least. We had a fantastic DJ from Rock the House who pretty much ran the show and got everyone super pumped up. We incorporated a few of our own quirky ideas, such as a square dance, a slushie machine (a crowd favorite), and a photo booth. We did not want the night to end! In fact, we asked the DJ to push back our departure time. We left the farm with our friends and families waving sparklers to the sounds of “Born to Run” by Bruce Springstein.

Our favorite part of our wedding was the opportunity it provided for us to show our friends and family how much we cared about them. We were able to take the focus off of ourselves and love our guests throughout the night. For Ben and me, the event symbolized something greater than ourselves: our faith in Jesus, a God who loves us unconditionally. Take the opportunity to love your guests and to communicate what is important to you and your groom. Stick with your vision for the day; a lot of people will be resistant to your ideas because they can’t envision them panning out. As you plan, make it your own and keep reminding yourself what the day is about. Lastly, laugh a lot!

Backyard Cleveland Wedding by Shi Shi Events

This wedding is all about the style. The gorgeous bib necklace, the show stopping Amsale gown, a cake inspired by that very gown by Wendy Kromer Confections, the breathtaking florals by HeatherLily Inc. – it all comes together thanks to the talented hands of Shi Shi Events, and we couldn’t be more thrilled they sent it our way. It’s all sitting pretty in the full gallery so be sure to stop on by for your daily dose of style!

From Shi Shi EventsThandi and Adam were married at Adam’s family home on June 25, 2011.  Because Thandi works as an executive at Tory Burch, it was of the utmost importance that the wedding reflected her sense of style perfectly. Thandi wanted a wedding that was modern and elegant without being fussy. Part of how we achieved that aesthetic was through mixing very glamorous gold-rimmed glass tabletop pieces and stately china with burlap linens and exposed wood tabletops. We used a vibrant pink flower mix to cap off the tables — it was truly stunning! The wedding ceremony was held outdoors on the family’s terrace under the most beautiful chuppah we’ve ever seen, and guests were seated in bamboo chairs. A steel band played as guests arrived to the pool area for cocktail hour. Cocktails were held around the pool, the bar under the canopy of the pool house, and a lounge was created outside “the barn.” When cocktail hour was over, wedding guests typed notes to Thandi and Adam on a vintage typewriter and placed them in a vintage hatbox on their way to the dinner and dancing tent. The century tent’s center poles were adorned with branches and greens to mimic trees featuring hanging votives with two brass and crystal chandeliers hung between them. HeatherLily provided a custom bar and lounge area under the tent as well for guests to enjoy. The menu was also very important to Thandi and Adam and included items such as passed hors d’oeuvres of chorizo corn dogs, southern style crab cakes and a mini slider station. As an intermezzo, guests were delighted to receive sorbet served inside an orange — it was an absolutely lovely presentation! For the main course, guests enjoyed Marigold Catering’s signature short ribs or a chicken breast served with Ohio sweet corn polenta. The wedding cake was created by Wendy Kromer of Wendy Kromer Confections and was modeled after Thandi’s dress — it had just the slightest hint of blush pink in the handmade gum paste flower details. It was truly a magical evening.
