Romantic Pink Wedding at Griggs Reservoir Boathouse

We spent this morning at the beach with these two cuties and Jeremiah and Rachel Photography, albeit we didn’t have our toes in the sand with them, we felt as if we did. And because we loved it so much, we couldn’t resist sharing another pretty from these talented photogs, and ooh darlings, it’s a pret-ty one. A Bride in a blush dress, sparkle and shine in every corner, gorgeous rings, shoes and blooms galore… we’ll leave it at that and let the gallery speak for itself.

From the beautiful Bride…My wedding day was the happiest day of my life! I was all smiles & overwhelmed with all the love surrounding me. My best advice to other brides is to take it all in. The day flies by, so stop and soak it up when you can!

From Jeremiah and Rachel PhotographyFrom our first interaction with Stephanie and Ian, we knew we loved them. Their wedding was filled with so much love from the two of them and their amazing friends and family. Stephanie is a girl after my own heart and I adored her touches of glam pink and sparkles throughout the day. I especially love weddings in early summer, when peonies are still in bloom! Nothing says romantic wedding like fluffy white and blush blooms. She told me on the day of that she knew pink was a popular wedding color, but she really tried to make their own, and I think they did just that! Stephanie had two wedding dresses made especially for her, one for the ceremony and one for the reception. I still can’t tell you which one I loved more, but I LOVED being able to photograph such a gorgeous bride in two spectacular dresses! Her ceremony wedding dress was a dream, with layers and layers of tulle and magic, with her reception dress being a sexy, pink lace mermaid dress. Stephanie looked radiant all day with her cascading blonde hair and shimmery eyes. Everything about Stephanie and Ian’s day was wonderful and had their own unique touch to it, from the custom paper goods and the pink ombre wedding cake, to having Ian’s step-mom perform the ceremony.

Ohio Engagement Hike at Hocking Hills

Engagement sessions make my heart melt. I love to see a couple on the verge of their great adventure, and this shoot from J. Hannah Photography is such a fabulous example of why. No props are needed when there is a love like this, just two people totally in love, ready to take on the world. See even more here.

From  J. Hannah PhotographyPlease enjoy this beautiful, nature, engagement session with my clients Susan and Luke. Hocking Hills State Park is in the south-east portion of Ohio and has a ton of hiking trails and caves. Luke proposed to his high school sweetheart, Susan, around the most famous area, Old Man’s Cave. That particular area was roped off the day Luke proposed and the day of the session, but we were rebels and headed to that section anyways! We spent the day hiking around the beautiful park and capturing some great shots. My favorite photos are by the waterfall which we discovered by taking a trail we had not seen before. My favorite candid moment was when Luke helped Susan keep her balance as she walked on a stone barrier, so she didn’t have to walk through the mud.

From the Bride…From the beginning, we wanted our wedding to be very personalized and involving our friends as much as possible. We designed the save the dates and invitations ourselves, and printed them with our friend’s letterpress. We designed and printed all the wedding day decorations and programs on another friend’s risograph. One of my bridesmaids made my wedding dress(!!), which included lace from my mom’s wedding dress. Our musician, photographer, and cake maker were all close friends of ours. Our friend hand lettered a window with our names and the wedding date that was set up as you entered the ceremony hall. On the day of, the groomsmen and Alex set up all the decorations, and the bridesmaids and I made all the centerpieces and bouquets. Many friends let us borrow decorations. Our parents supported us and contributed an incredible amount. We had our guests request oldies songs for the dance floor, since we’re not into traditional wedding music, and we didn’t think our guests would enjoy our indie dance music. It all felt incredibly special and unique, and so us, because you could see our hands and our friends’ hands in the making of the whole day.

When Alex and I first started dating, we took many trips to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to hike or sit and talk. We had our first kiss there, and two years later, got engaged there. So it made total sense to get married there, and we were lucky enough to book the Happy Days Lodge, a hall I’d been eyeing for a few months! They had both a ceremony hall and a reception hall in one building, which was so convenient for decorating and not having to rush from one location to another after the ceremony. It had market lighting already set up, and two giant bison heads on the wall.

The biggest hit of the night (besides dancing) was the food. If you want guaranteed praise for your wedding, get a barbecue place to cater. Our venue limited our catering options, but luckily Old Carolina Barbecue was on the list. People went back for seconds, which apparently doesn’t happen very often. We also met a couple early on in our engagement that had a small business in Cleveland making ice cream, called Mason’s Creamery. Everyone loved them as well, and didn’t even miss not having cake.

Favorite Memories from the Wedding:

Alex (Groom): Because the venue was small, and because Katey and I had chosen not to see each other before the ceremony, we had to switch off waiting in our respective restrooms. The groomsmen and bridesmaids acted as “lookouts,” and we were always told ahead of time when the coast was clear before leaving. It will always be a favorite memory of mine. It was a good time bonding with my groomsmen and my father.

Katey (Bride): My favorite memory was walking down the aisle and realizing that almost everyone I knew was in the same room. Beforehand, I didn’t think it would be a big deal

From Hey Gorgeous EventsKatie and Bryan were married on New Year’s Eve at the Contemporary Art’s Center in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio (their beautiful engagement session was actually featured on Style Me Pretty that same day about an hour before Katie walked down the aisle!) Dear friends and family travelled from near and far not only to ring in a new year but to love on the sweet couple as they started a new chapter in their love story. Aside from the gorgeous bride and the handsome groom, the event had so many details tied in with the bride’s love for blush, peach, mint and gold. The big overhead ceremony aisle canopy made completely out of ribbon, lush blush, peach and white florals in gold vessels, sequin linens that sparkled when the light hit at the right time, a massive dance floor ceiling treatment that set the tone for the reception party; this wedding really had it all and more.

Yet right before I sent up the signal to the bridal party to let them know the processional was about to start, we got some bad news. Katie had lost her engagement ring. As the string quartet played, the guests eagerly anticipated the bride’s big reveal, and poor Bryan stood at the alter confused and wondering what was going on (sorry Bryan!), Katie and her girls were scrambling around trying to find her ring at what probably was the worst time to be doing so. I met her halfway up to the bridal suite to get things back on track and told her all that mattered in that moment was the kind groom waiting for her at the alter. And that we would find the ring no matter what. Her Dad held her hand, she shook her head, wiped away a few tears and together they trekked down the thirty plus stairs to the 250 awaiting guests. The ceremony began at long last and the show went on.

Immediately after I sent Katie off down the aisle, we got the news that the ring had been found; by a very gracious janitorial employee who had discovered the ring sitting in the corner of the venue restroom! From there the ring went from the hands of the employee to my husband, to a guest, to the videographer, to the photographer, to the best man, to the groom and finally back into the hands of our sweet bride. Katie was reunited with her most special piece of jewelry at the exact moment when it came time to exchange the rings. Bryan was a little confused as to we he was handed three rings instead of the two he was expecting but Katie burst into happy tears at the sight of thought to be long lost possession. There would continue to be many more moments of happy tears and sheer joy that day, all of which shined brighter than any diamond ring.

When it came close to midnight everyone stood on the dance floor and counted down to the start of 2014 via the large screen which was live streaming the Times Square coverage. At midnight a confetti canon erupted sprinkling colored bits over all of the happy guests embracing their loved ones as Auld Lang Syne began to softly play. It was beyond a pleasure being a small sliver of the Sapp’s happily ever after, and an honor to work with such a talented team who made it all possible.

From The Bride…We both wanted to create a timeless, handmade wedding that made use of our eclectic tastes and detail oriented aesthetic. We decided to keep our wedding very small and intimate. Since we are both artists by nature and profession, we approached our wedding as a graphic design challenge and created a custom logo and “branding” for the event. We created all of the signage and stationery ourselves.

We created custom gift baskets as gifts for the bridal party and parents. With the help of my mom, we created custom handkerchief favors for our guests that were hand stamped with the wedding logo we designed. We found and printed custom sepia tinted vintage family photos to be displayed at our reception in order to honor our family members that could not be with us that day. We created a framed logo sign for the welcome table that made use of a mercury glass technique, that I learned on the internet, and a hand cut stencil.

Our day was more amazing and made us happier than I ever imagined. It was just like everyone said, after months and months of hard work, the day was over in what felt like a few moments. I’m so glad that we did everything exactly the way we wanted. We tried not to worry too much about classic wedding traditions and instead do things our own way. Neither one of us was very comfortable with the idea of dancing, so we hired a jazz pianist for our dinner reception and just hung out at the bar at the club after dinner. We all ended up playing the board game version of The Newlywed Game at the bar, which was so much fun and hilarious. I am so glad we decided to keep our wedding small and intimate. It created such a warm, inviting, and comfortable energy during the ceremony and after. It provided us with a great opportunity to bond more closely with our families and closest friends. I expected to be nervous during the ceremony, but I felt completely comfortable and elated to be surrounded by such a sweet group of our favorite people. We also decided to choose someone we both love and respect dearly to perform our wedding ceremony, which made it so special. Our friend Dennis was kind enough to go through the ordainment process in order to legally marry the two of us. He did such a fabulous job that most of our guests told him he should consider it as a career.

If I were to offer advice to any future brides, I would tell them to do things their way. Michael and I were together 9 years before we decided to get married. We spent many years of our relationship fielding the “so when are you guys getting married” question. I’m so glad we waited until we were ready and knew exactly what we wanted from our wedding. It felt like a true reflection of the both of us because we waited until the time was right.

From Studio Elle PhotographyI love getting to collaborate with other vendors and fuel our creativity! The Cleveland Museum of Art’s new atrium was the perfect indoor wedding venue to feature for this winter shoot. The mix of classic & modern architecture and abundance of natural light from the glass ceiling above made for a perfect atmosphere. I loved the character of the vintage elements in the building, so film was my go-to choice for the shoot.

We decided on a soft palette to give a cohesive look next to the marble backdrop. The gold was perfect to mix in a hint of warmth to the winter day, while the soft blush accents added a touch of color. We decided that a classic black-tie look for the couple would the perfect compliment to such an elegant venue.

Classic Summer Country Club Wedding

This summer stunner from Hunter Photographic epitomizes classic style in every way possible. From the Bride arriving at the same church and in the same Rolls Royce as her mother in 1977, to the lace Pronivias dress, the pearls, the tux and everything in between. Ending with a serious bang of beautiful fireworks (a surprise for the Bride & Groom!) this gallery is hard to beat!

From Hunter Photographic… Weeks away from the start of this classic summer wedding, I knew it would be something truly special. The mother-of-the-bride had shared much of the secret plan with me. The wedding would be classic, packed with rich details, and capped with an epic surprise for the bride and groom.

The amazing details all start with the gorgeous wedding stationery, printed by William Arthur. The invitation suite included cards for all occasions – bachelorette party, wedding shower, wedding invitation, ceremony program and reception menus.

The real opulence of event can best be seen in the fashions. The bride wore a stunning Pronovias dress with finely detailed lace covering her shoulders. The groom wore a custom Kilgore & Trout tuxedo with the groomsmen in matching Calvin Klein’s. Pulling the color palette together perfectly were rich navy blue bridesmaids dresses from Jim Hjelm.

Completing the color palette were the flowers by Charles Phillips, which were filled with rich white and pink roses and just a touch of blue. The bouquets perfectly accented the shoes worn by each bridesmaid.

More than the details, the story of the wedding is equally as endearing. Meredith’s mother is Russian Orthodox and was married in much the same fashion years ago. Growing up, the stories Meredith heard of her mother’s wedding became the template for her own. Meredith chose the same church, known for being extensively featured in an old Robert DeNiro & Christopher Walken film. As is tradition in Russian Orthodox ceremonies, an icon has been handed down through the generations, finally given to Meredith and Hunter by Meredith’s mother on their wedding day. Similar to her mother, Meredith was escorted to the ceremony in a 1977 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II.

The whole wedding day, I had to bite my tongue regarding the big surprise, while also being ready to capture the moment. To celebrate Meredith & Hunter’s wedding with a bang, the family had organized a full fireworks show to cap off the wedding day. Shot off from the beautiful golf course at The County Club in Pepper Pike, the show rivaled what most cities do for Fourth of July.

Also worth noting was the impeccable wedding planning by Susie Cargile, a seasoned professional well know among the well-to-do in Cleveland. Furthermore, the five-layer cake from Luna Bakery and perfumed with white roses made the perfect centerpiece for the cocktail hour held on the large patio.

When I reminisced with Meredith about her wedding day, one thing came up again and again – how happy she was that Nestle, the couples chocolate lab, could have at least a small part in the wedding. While he could not be part of the wedding ceremony, Meredith was thrilled to have Nestle with her in the morning.

From the Bride… Dan and I met on a biking trip in the California wine country. My family and I arrived in California excited to bike, eat, and drink wine! We met up with my uncle and cousin who accompanied us and 20 other strangers on this organized trip. I met Dan that first morning when he introduced himself as one of three trip leaders and handed me my bike for the week. I thought nothing of it. As the week progressed, the leaders biked and ate with the group, guiding us on our tour of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. There was some flirtation going on, but I was not interested or looking at the time. I had just moved out to Seattle, WA from Columbus, OH days earlier hoping to jump start my career. Besides, growing up it was always my sister who attracted all the attention. I figured that would be the case here as well.

My sister and mom are quite perceptive however, and they mentioned early on that they felt Dan was clearly more interested in me. We began spending more time talking, but Dan was busy entertaining 20 other guests as well. On the last day of the trip, my sister was biking way too fast approaching a sharp hairpin turn and she crashed. Torn up, shook up, and bruised, she headed off to the hospital in a van with Dan. On their drive she inquired, “what’s up with you and my sister?” She proceeded to give him the in’s and out’s of how to go about pursuing me, and he did just that! This was the start of our relationship filled with romance and adventure!

Dan continued to work for Backroads for the next few years, and his last trip with the company took him to New Zealand and Vietnam for the Winter season. His parents and I headed out for a visit to meet him in Vietnam. On the Vietnamese New Year we were in Dan’s favorite town Hoi An. That night he gave me my belated Christmas present (since we weren’t together for the holiday). It was a homemade scrap book of our relationship with an engagement ring on the last page! We couldn’t wait to start planning our special day!

I knew I wanted to be married in my home town of Columbus, OH. My mom jumped on booking venues right away. Things seemed to be booked for weekends in 2012 already being that our engagement was in January of that year. It was booked every weekend but Thanksgiving and a few in December. We threw out the date of New Year’s Eve and it was available so we went with it! It seemed like the perfect date because I never have New Year’s plans, it’s a great time for a celebration, and our theme was automatically decided for us! A brand new Hilton was being built and set to open just before our wedding date – we jumped on the chance to be the first wedding at the new beautiful property. It was a pretty special experience to go from hard hat tours of a shell of a building to seeing our lovely wedding come to life in their exquisite ballroom.

The first chance I had to try on wedding dresses was at La Jeune Marie on a trip home to Columbus. As most brides say, I had something totally different in mind than what I chose! I only tried on about five dresses before “the one”. I absolutely fell in love with my Anna Maier gown – it was perfect for the season. There were certainly challenges planning a Columbus wedding while I was living in Seattle, so I could not have been more happy for my mom when she paired up with Adrianne from Adrianne Elizabeth Events for planning. Adrianne was the best support for both my mom and I and we could not have pulled it off without her!

We had a blast personalizing the wedding and making it fun and festive for the new year. Clay from Red Gallery Photography even flew out to do our engagement shoot in Seattle at all the locations we went on our first date, we used these pictures throughout the wedding decor. We served my favorite, Jeni’s Ice Cream, at the reception to celebrate my love of Jeni’s and the fact that used to bike race on the team in Columbus sponsored by Jeni’s.

We had a photo booth for guests to enjoy and now have a great keepsake in place of a guest book. It even snowed light fluffy white snow the day of the wedding for some gorgeous moments captured by our photographer and videographer. The highlight was at 5 minutes before midnight when we popped tiny cans of Sofia champagne and watched our “Same Day Edit” Video from Studio Z Films. The video captured the entire day from start to finish and ended with a countdown to the new year which culminated with a perfectly timed confetti drop. It was a day I will never forget! Plus, being that it was the New Year holiday, I never have to worry about my husband forgetting our anniversary, either!

Planner Note…The DiCello Family and Alicia and Dan were truly special clients. Alicia and her mom, Anita, have exquisite taste. The wedding was soft, beautiful, warm, and inviting and perfectly fitting for an elegant New Year’s Eve affair. From the very start, the DiCello’s set out to be gracious hosts to their guests. From a delicious New Year’s Eve meal paired with the families favorite wines, Silver Oak, Churchill Cellars and Twomey to Uncle Mike’s extraordinarily beautiful and delicious cookie table to the framed photos of the couple’s parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents on their wedding day, every detail was personal. It was truly a New Year’s Eve Celebration to remember.

From the Bride… I met Joe through a mutual friend and immediately liked him. I know it sounds cliche’ when people say this, but I actually felt like I had already known him. We have a lot in common in that we don’t take anything too seriously. I think that was most reflected in our cake cutting – neither of us cared or even thought about how we were going to do it or if it would ruin my makeup or our clothes. We just had fun with it and that’s what I love about being with Joe, he makes everything fun. The most important thing to us on our wedding day was that it reflected who we are and what is important to us.

The first thing we chose was Via Vecchia as the venue, an Italian Winery in the brewery district. We wanted a space that was rustic, comfortable and unique. Via Vecchia was a perfect fit for us because my family is Italian and we both love wine. Many of the sayings, food and traditions at our wedding were Italian and wine themed and we decorated the space with olive branches, lanterns, chalkboards and old photos. Dinner was served family style and our families made cannoli’s and Italian cookies for dessert. We really wanted our guests to feel like they were having dinner at our home. We wanted the tone to be comfortable and laid-back, and I think the family style dining and the homemade desserts really set the tone. For our favors, Joe made 250 half bottles of homemade wine. We personalized each bottle with twine and our signature tag that we’d used on our save the date and invitations.

Our favorite thing about our wedding was the ceremony. In Italy, many events, including marriages happen outside in the town square with people gathered around. There’s something so beautiful and intimate about the simplicity of those gatherings. Even though it was a chilly November night and the only light we had was from a few string lights, we decided to get married on an alleyway stoop with our family and friends gathered around. It was perfect. Joe’s older brother married us, and Joe and I exchanged our own vows which added to the intimacy and comfort of our wedding ceremony.

Joe and I don’t regret a single thing about our wedding day. We didn’t do a lot of the traditions that many people do, but instead started our own that were more memorable and significant to us – and that’s what we wanted our wedding day to be about!

Anatomy of a Bridal Bouquet + WIUP

It’s no secret we’re total suckers for a good bridal bouquet. Big, small, we love ’em all and Marti’s Floral Designs is here to break down the pretty. She’s sharing her recipe for the ultimate bundle of blooms and thanks to Lexi Vornberg Photography you can see the snaps right here. Pssst: winners, reminders and a few fun discounts are just a scroll away. Happy weekend!

BOUQUET RECIPE
Agonis
Stock
Anemones
Ranunculus
Italian Ruscus
Lisianthus
Uhle Curls
Eucalyptus
Garden Roses

Tip: Any flower is beautiful in itself. Putting a stunning white anemone against the dark texture of the burgundy agonis makes it more noticeable. The greens give this bouquet the dramatic look that make it pop. Plenty of times the greenery gets a bad rap. Insert mental photo of leather leaf from the grocery store with red roses and baby’s breath. It is all in the application of the flowers and how they are placed together. A good trick is to start with each individual flower and rotating them in placement until the bouquet is full.

From Marti’s Floral Designs… Many flowers go into the making of a bridal bouquet. Every flower is chosen for an exact reason. To represent a color, a texture, a style. A flower can be taken and made to look modern, romantic, traditional or rustic. It is all in the look that the Bride is trying to achieve for her wedding. I am a huge advocate to selling brides on the style and not a particular flower. Mother Nature never provides the same product every week and every bride is not the same either! All the flowers apart are striking on their own, but when you see the product pulled together the final piece is just as stunning. I wanted to provide a look behind the making of a bouquet.

Bringing in special talents from all across the nation made this possible with hand dyed and frayed silk ribbon from Froufrou Chic, organic lettering from Signora a Mare, and captured by Lexi Vornberg Photography.

Cleveland Museum of Art Engagement

The very best engagement sessions don’t necessarily need all the “fluff”…the balloons and confetti and props galore. The only special sauce needed is a madly-in-love couple who couldn’t be cuter if they tried. Couples just like this Cleveland duo who cozied up in front of Lauren Gabrielle’s camera for sweet little e-sesh that’s sure to make you smile. See it all right here.

From the couple… We travel. That’s what we do as a couple. First, it was just to see each other because when we first started dating in college, we went to different schools. I was at Miami University and Josh was at Ohio University. Our trips have ranged from a road trip to Charleston, SC to Luxembourg and Italy while I was studying abroad. We were able to travel twice to Thailand, which holds a special place in my hearts as it is where my Dad is from and where I lived for eight years of my life.

It has become a tradition that we plan at least one trip a year. This year, it was Israel. Josh’s sister lives there and I had never been. As it turned out, Josh had done a little extra planning that I was not aware of. We had just finished his birthday dinner at a fabulous restaurant in Jerusalem and I was out on the balcony of our apartment overlooking the city. Josh turned me around, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Getting engaged to the man I love, in a beautiful city, doing something we both love. It was perfect. Of course I said yes! We are so excited for what the future holds and can’t wait for our wedding in 2014!

Classic Blush + Peach Ohio Statehouse Wedding

The second I laid eyes on this wedding from Amanda Wilcher Photography I was all set to roll out the “Oh la la’s” and “Mon dieu’s” because Bliss Event Co. had me convinced this stunning classic soiree was sitting pretty right next to the Eiffel Tower, not, in fact in the middle of Columbus, OH. But oh la la, and mon dieu this fete is tres magnifique!

From Amanda Wilcher… Our bride, Lindsay, a chic bridal boutique owner and our groom, Kurt, a pilot, married in a perfectly gorgeous day in downtown Ohio. Her palette was delicious, traditional, consistent, and very classic “bridal” in the best sense. We loved that she kept her perfectly peachy and pink hued party true to form by mixing in real peaches, garden roses, and hydrangeas among other pretty details. Oh, and the cake! (Photos do it better justice than words!) One of our favorites we’ve ever seen! Really gorgeous Midwestern wedding. Since Lindsay owns her own bridal shop she had three (!) lovely, different attire changes on the day (not to mention the shoes.)

Whimsical English Garden Wedding

The second I opened this wedding my productivity levels plummeted. You see, I found myself lost in a beautiful sea of English Garden inspired blooms from Courtenay Lambert Florals and every little moment captured by BRAUNPhotography sucked me in. Before I knew it, I had been sifting through the gallery for hours. So be forewarned, you will get lost in this beauty!

From Courtenay Lambert Florals… The brides vision in planning her wedding was the use of natural elements, while keeping an elegant feel of an English Tea Garden. Our inspiration in the design was “Alice and Wonderland meets English Tea Garden meets Hobbit’s Village”. Many of the design elements were a mix of inspiration from her Event Designer as well as personal treasures belonging to her family. Use of organic and natural materials, such as moss, stones, wood slices and succulents, were of utmost importance to the bride and groom. The groom wore a tailor maid custom suit and the bridesmaids wore vintage inspired dresses that helped convey the theme of the wedding.

From the stunning bride… Joe and I always knew we wanted to get married outside, and the abundance of gorgeous outdoor venues is certainly not lacking in Cincinnati. The French House, nestled in Amberly Village, with its sprawling wildflower fields, intimate garden setting and charming red brick house really spoke to us. You see, Joe grew up in the country, a good old farm boy of sorts, and myself, while not exactly a city girl, I come pretty close. The French House was the perfect venue for uniting the best of these two worlds.

I wanted to use soft romantic colors, a tried and true color scheme certainly, used by many brides before me, but I also wanted to capture the laid back earthiness of the outdoors that Joe and I love so much. Juxtaposing more earthy elements like moss, stone and succulents with soft garden roses, ivory lace and blush colored silks was critical in making this balance a reality. It was a casual elegance I was looking for, but something unique, something enchanted. I wanted the style to be textured and spirited. We wanted to strike an intriguing, exciting cord in our style for our guests, and for us! And of course, we wanted to incorporate all kinds of personal touches! The lace overlay for the cake table in particular is a family heirloom, made by my grandmother and great- grandmother for my parent?s wedding forty two years ago. My sister also used this on her cake table and it was finally my turn. This linen demanded something special be placed on it, and I turned to no other than Maureen Thie for this task. Her family owned the original Virginia Bakery and although she no longer was making cakes for private events, my mother’s persistent begging payed off. Mo had also made my sisters cake years ago.

The ladies got ready at my parent’s house. The same place we got ready sixteen years prior when I was the Maid of Honor at my sisters wedding. Now, I could finally honor her as my Matron of Honor, her daughters as Junior Bridesmaids, and her husband as a Groomsman. Really, it was a family affair with my brother and Joe’s cousin also in that mix, not to mention a couple of wonderful friends! It was so much fun choosing the attire for everyone. I used BHLDN for the ladies and outfitted the guys in Joseph Abboud. The stylists at BHLDN were fabulous to work with. I sent my bridesmaid’s measurements along with the dresses I had chosen and they helped match each dress to everyones body type, helping to ensure that everyone looked their best! To play off the highly textured, whimsical feel of the day I selected different dresses for all my bridesmaids in slightly varying shades of blush. Their dresses were definitely one of my favorite things about the wedding! I went with a classic, vintage feel for the guys incorporating suspenders and bow ties to complete their look.

Joe and I decided to do a first look and are so glad we did. Not only did it help to calm some nerves but it was so very special to be able to share that moment and our day with all of our guests via our Same Day Edit video thanks to Studio Z Films. We didn’t even tell our wedding party this video was going down. Talk about a tear jerker! Arriving early at the French House also gave us a chance to get a sneak peak into how Courtenay Lambert and her team had transformed this venue into something spectacular. I had met with more florists than I could count, and from the moment I met Courtenay I knew she was the exact one I had been searching for! I followed my heart when it came to assembling our team of venders and I really feel the approach paid off. Even a few last minute changes, albeit a bit stressful, helped to ensure that everything and everyone felt “right”. So glad I went with printed flower girl dresses!

Our guests were greeted at the French House with a pre ceremony cocktail, paying homage to the time of year with its delicate amber hue of apple cider and champagne, complete with a spiced sugar rim. The Bacon Bar, open during cocktail hour, was also a huge hit, with people feasting on fistfuls of wasabi bacon, chocolate dipped bacon, dijon brown sugar, smoked chili, and cracked pepper bacon. A sign that read “Thank you so much for being here today! We love you more than bacon!!!” adorned the buffet. Renee Schuler of EatWell really hit this one out of the park! Not to mention just about everything else! Luckily, Joe and I had arranged to have a platter of this wonderfully delicious smorgasbord waiting for us upstairs after the ceremony. Best idea ever! In addition to our love of bacon, Joe and I are also craft beer enthusiasts. We served only beers brewed right here in Cincinnati. It was a fun way to share a passion of ours as well as highlight three different local breweries that we love.

A drizzle required us to move the ceremony under the tent. A bit disappointing yes, but as the sun emerged immediately after the ceremony, an impromptu family gathering in the garden became one of our favorite memories from the day. Before heading into the tent, Joe and I headed out to the wildflower field to capture some of our first photos as husband and wife. I absolutely adore these shots!

Dinner was served family style. It proved to be a great way to engage guests with each other and to enhance the intimacy of the evening, as well as a way to play off the time of year again, a celebration of the harvest! After dinner we showed the Same Day Edit video, cut the cake and took to the dance floor. Soul Pocket, with its funky flavor and three lovely ladies can really take a house down! We danced the night away before piling into the party bus, (another highlight of the evening) and headed downtown to Via Vite on Fountain Square for a night cap. An intimate brunch the next morning at The Metropole was the icing on the cake before heading off to Paradise, thanks to my brother! (Our honeymoon was his wedding gift, the location of which he kept a secret until our Rehearsal Dinner the night before!)

October 5th, 2013 was the most wonderful day of my life, complete with one of the biggest rainstorms of the year and a new moon! It was a magical day filled with love, warmth, and passion, family and friendship, and of course, a ton of pretty!

French Inspired Country Club Wedding

Love at first site isn’t reserved for just soul mates. No, as this wedding from Kortnee Kate Photogrpahy plainly proves, love at first site can most definitely refer to a wedding. It was the macarons which did me in on this one. Then the preppy, french, chic design kept me in the gallery for hours! See you there?

From the beautiful bride… I’ve loved Laduree {the Parisian patisserie} and macarons for years. The beautiful Laduree packaging is something I’ve collected in my travels to every Laduree I’ve ever visited – and taken Richard along with me throughout our 5+ years together. His sweet tooth sure never minds! I adore their feminine colors {light pink & mint green} and delicious macarons. This is where our wedding inspiration began. My mom’s friend, graphic designer Kim Jackson of MiTags, designed our wedding logo. We wanted it to be classic and preppy with a twist of French “chic.” We went to France for our honeymoon {and multiple Laduree locations!) so it all came full circle.

We used the laurel logo on all of our wedding paper goods: save the dates, wedding invitations, banner at the ceremony, wedding programs, menu cards, macaron favor boxes, sweets table bags, napkins, thank yous, etc. Our wedding favors were pistachio macarons – the boxes were put together by my sister, mom and I on one of our many DIY evenings. The banner that we used at our ceremony was transported to be used above the mantel on the dance floor – a perfect way to use the homemade banner twice!

Richard and I love cocktail hour so we wanted to make sure everyone had room to relax & enjoy themselves! That is where the white outdoor couches with pink and white striped pillows with “Madame” and “Monsieur” and our wedding date came into play. We are also primarily beer drinkers so instead of a signature drink we made sure there were enough pink monogrammed koozies to go around.

If we aren’t drinking beer then we are most likely drinking Veuve {for special occasions, of course!} We celebrated with our bridal party with Veuve after the ceremony {and after the wedding petal toss!} That being said, we decided to have our guests sign Veuve jackets instead of a guest book. The sign said: “To have and to hold and to keep their Veuve cold. Please sign the Veuve jackets for Ash & Rich”

The sweets table displayed a heirloom silver trophy centerpiece that has been used at every Fehr family wedding. It has been a tradition to use this silver trophy and we were lucky enough to be able to use it at the cocktail hour and on the pink and white sweets table. The sweets take away bags had our logo imprinted with “l’amour est doux” meaning love is sweet in French.

We wanted to incorporate all of the important women in our lives, especially since neither of us have any living grandmothers. We had photos hanging in the girls bathroom {from French pink and white striped wire ribbon} of our mothers and grandmothers on their wedding day. This was one of the most special parts of the planning process, looking through old wedding albums of our grandparents. We know our grandmothers were with us on our wedding day. We know they were the ones who turned the rainy morning into the most gorgeous evening – 75 at the end of July in Cincinnati is not normal. I also wore my grandmothers wedding dress {shortened} at our after party!

We worked with Kevin Ford at Ford Ellington Design who helped create the most magical design. I knew I wanted pink flower balls but only in my dreams could I imagine hanging flower balls intertwined with crystal elements to create this chandelier. Kevin took a simple brass chandelier and transformed it into something out of a fairytale. It was more beautiful than anything I could have ever imagined. Kevin was more than a florist, he helped us in every detail, everything from the gorgeous table cloths to the light pink chair cushions (a small detail that I absolutely loved) to the lighting at HPCC, he covered it all. His flowers were over the top and each time I look back at the photos I am more and more in love! I told him I wish I could just live under that chandelier forever.

The bridesmaids wore Lela Rose mint green dresses and the groomsmen wore white dinner jackets. We wanted the look to feel classic and simple. Richard and I both had grandfathers who wore white dinner jackets at their weddings so we knew it was meant to be when we were deciding their look.

My dress was Justina McCaffrey from Amanda’s Hyde Park Bridal – I loved being in that gown from the moment I put it on! It was actually the very first dress I tried on, EVER… if you can believe it! The Badgley Mischka belt was an addition to the dress – it’s tiny floral, rhinestone, lace and beaded detail made it an absolute must.

The night ended with a send off with tambourines and maracas, we then returned for an after party themed with our college {where we met!} late night food joint, Marvin’s. The food was garlic cheeseburgers, fries and beer – Marvin’s staples. We continued to dance the night away outdoors with a balloon drop and glow necklaces under a tent with a DJ!

From start to finish our wedding was everything we dreamed it would be. It was the best day of our lives and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing vendor team!

Cleveland City Hall Rotunda Wedding

Truth be told, it’s the rich, ultra romantic hues that’ll always reign supreme in my book. Hues like the berries and purples that take center stage in this lush, fall affair from Lauren Gabrielle Photography. It’s stunning in every way, but don’t just take my word for it. Have a full-on swoon for yourself right over here.

From A Charming Fete… The design for Danielle and Austin’s wedding was Tuscan-inspired with a rich, romantic color palette of deep aubergine, shades of plum, cream and dusty rose with touches of antique metallics. We wanted to achieve that warm, plentiful Tuscan vibe in a more refined, modern setting. Vintage style urns and vessels lined the king’s tables with an abundance of lush flowers and ripe fruit (plums, pears and grapes) overflowing onto the tabletop.

The place settings were anchored with beautiful ivory and gold china and custom menus. We wanted friends and family to feel like they were being seated at a rich and elegant feast. The chocolate linens gave the tables a dark, earthy feel. The ceremony and reception space boasts tons of marble, massive arched ceilings and elaborate columns which gave the perfect balance to our Tuscan tablescape. We incorporated some fun details like mini olive oil bottle seating cards and a decadent dessert bar with handmade backdrop. The wedding cake was beautiful in its own simplicity which we adorned with a few fresh blooms.

A gorgeous, lush backdrop was constructed for the ceremony which including tons of dripping vines and foliage mixed with florals. This served as a focal point throughout the reception and a backdrop to the couple’s sweetheart table. The bride paired some chic vintage-inspired jewels and accessories with her gown, including a gorgeous faux fur chubby. The end result was breathtaking and timeless.
