A 500-Person Wedding Where Festival-Style Meets Garden Party Grace

You would think a 500-person guest list would deter a Bride and Groom from any DIY projects, but that wasn’t the case for Rebecca and Steve, who DIYed multiple elements of their boho garden party meets music festival-inspired wedding. And with Studio Elle Photography on hand to capture it all, The Vault is full of pretty inspiration — from loose, romantic florals to the pharmacist-inspired table names!

From Studio Elle PhotographyRebecca & Steve are two of the most fun-loving, free-spirited couples that I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with. I was absolutely thrilled to be a part of their celebration! The weather was perfect for their tented outdoor garden party at Patterson’s Fruit Farm. There wasn’t a detail overlooked and so many personal touches were done by hand from the bride & groom.

After an afternoon church ceremony, we stopped at various spots around Cleveland for views of the skyline. Rebecca & Steve had so much fun with their wedding party while we made our way to Patterson’s to finish off the day. While the couple and their 500+ guests danced and enjoyed the evening, the sun set behind the rolling hills and orchard. It was the perfect end to the most beautiful day!

From The Bride…With a guest list towering over five hundred, finding a wedding venue in Northeast Ohio was no easy task. When looking for a venue, we knew we wanted it to be unique. My husband Steven proposed to me at our third Bonnaroo together (a four-day-long, outdoor, hippie rave, music festival for those that aren’t familiar), so having our wedding reception outdoors seemed like a natural extension of that free bird attitude, but finding the place to host us and dealing with what seemed like nearly every other opinion on how we needed a back up plan for weather (an August wedding in Cleveland? It could be snowing! It could be over 100 degrees!) was an additional feat. When I originally spoke with Patterson Fruit Farm, I was blessed to get ahold of a woman named Livia, who told me that they have never really tried anything like I was explaining before, but she was willing to pitch it to her boss and would get back to me. She was phenomenal throughout the planning process, and really alleviated a lot of potential bridezilla moments. Patterson’s is a beautiful fruit market and farm located in Cuyahoga Country surrounded by Metroparks. On our wedding day, it was 72 degrees without a cloud in the sky, so we never needed that back up plan! We stuck with a color of ivory, blush, gold, and forest green. Our overall style vision was garden-themed/ festival/ bohemian.

Our ceremony was held at Saint James Catholic Church in Lakewood, Ohio. Our uncles concelebrated the ceremony, which was very special for both of our families (although two Catholic priests marrying their niece and nephew means a very long mass for a our guests!!). When we left the church, our guests were given pill vials that were filled with capsules to throw at us! These were all hand-filled at what we liked to call “wedding work nights,” where we would work for a few hours a night on wedding crafts. The capsules were filled with sugar that was dyed gold and pale pink. Other items that we worked on during wedding work nights were custom water bottles, where we removed all labels from water bottles and added new labels in our wedding colors, and sparkler packages. The sparklers were pretty tedious. It included adorning a four-foot-long sparkler with a mini lighter and hand-stamped label that was also hand “antiqued” with paint. All lighting was done by family, which included bistro lighting throughout the 100 x 80 foot twin peak tent and chandeliers throughout the farm. A sprig of lavender was hand tied with twine to every seating placement. Guests were seated at tables that were named after drug names, since both my husband and I are pharmacists. Since our reception was at an apple farm, fresh apple cider was served throughout the night, both with and without bourbon! For the kids, flavored soda pop was available as well as glow sticks, which the kids ended up taping to themselves and running around the farm — we got some really good photos from that. My something old was a handkerchief that my grandmother carried on her wedding day, my something blue was a hand-stitched cross from my grandmother, and my something borrowed was Steve’s grandmother’s engagement ring. The bridal party went to the Cleveland Browns stadium to play a little pick up game of football which was a good time, too.

There were so many perfect moments. Steve, my husband, surprised me with our first dance by having our band learn our song (Home- Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) and he serenaded me during a part of the song which was really special and unexpected. I thought it was very special to have both of our uncles marry us. Our wedding day, August 22, is also his parents anniversary, which I think is very special.

AND I CANT FORGET ABOUT THE VENDORS!! So many of our vendors played a huge role in making our day a success. The bridal bouquet was hand tied with roses, dahlias, white stock, snow on the mountain, white veronica, and lisianthus with herbs, seeded eucalyptus, ruscus, and jasmine vine trailing. The bridesmaid bouquets were mismatched to complement the bridal bouquet. Fresh floral crowns were worn by the bride, bridesmaids, and mother of the groom! Long tables with ivory tablecloths and gold-rimmed china were accented with garland centerpieces. Seasonal locally grown flowers and foliages were also scattered throughout the guest tables, cookie table, and candy bar. Gold candelabras were also adorned with floral arrangements throughout the tables. Our cake, by Hummingbird Bake Shop, was a 4-tier “naked” white cake with buttercream frosting, fresh fruit (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries) between layers, each tier with 3 layers. It was the most delicious cake we have ever had! Our invitations were hand drawn by a friend who perfectly captured our personalities onto paper. I wore two of the most GORGEOUS gowns on the day of my wedding — for the ceremony, Something White provided with me “Rosemary” by Amy Kuschel and for the reception I wore “Kensington” by Carol Hannah. The Grammy-nominated musician Alex Meixner Band was the entertainment for the reception with DJ Earl carrying guests into the early hours of the morning at the after party. This meant that guests of all ages danced the night away — with a variation of polka throughout dinner BUT probably the most unique polka band you would ever hear considering they played “Enter Sandman” on the accordion. Guests were able to take home travel CDs, flower crowns, flip flops, light up drink cubes (activated when placed in a cold drink), candy bag, and cookie bag. The cookie table is a tradition from my Youngstown family. At our wedding, we had over 5,000 cookies. My grandmother’s friends helped her over a two-month period to make sure we had enough cookies — and they all went! Immediately following the traditional reception was a sparkler sendoff directly to the after party which went to 3:30 in the morning. At the after party, we served my husband’s and my favorite foods — pizza, green grapes, blueberries, wheat thins, chocolate almond milk, cheez-its, and kettle cooked potato chips and dip!

Honestly, after having an outdoor reception, there is so much more that I know now that I didn’t know then! What do we do with garbage, are we recycling, what about glassware, how many bottles of water do we need, what about bathrooms, what about security, what about noise, what about ice, what about power, and on and on! I would change nothing, but I really did not realize the work that needed to be put in. We created every single detail of this wedding from the ground up. It was a ton of work, and with the exception of Livia at Patterson’s (who doesn’t consider herself a wedding planner although I would beg to differ!) we did it all ourselves. It was so nice to hear so many of our friends and family tell us that our wedding was the best party they have ever been to when it was by far the best day of my life!

This Day is Proof You Don’t Need An Exotic Locale for a Fabulous Destination Wedding

Even though this gorgeous Bride and Groom wed in her hometown in Ohio, for the 90 percent of their guests traveling from out of state, their day was a destination wedding. And with a little help from incredible vendors like Bliss EventsJenny YooOrchard Lane Flowers and Amanda Julca, their day turned out to be an absolute dream. Don’t miss any of it in The Vault!

From The Bride…Having a day with all the people you love in one space is both incredible and overwhelming. During the planning, my husband and I decided the most important aspect of our day was to have fun and be part of the wedding not to be on the sidelines. We were the couple that never left the dance floor, laughed, drank, and had a beautiful night. We wanted a classic, casual natural feel, which brought us to a soft blush, neutral palette with accents of gold.

Our worlds connected later in our 20s and early 30s, we both grew up and lived in different parts of the country. So deciding on a location proved to be a bit tricky. We decided to tie the knot in my hometown of Ohio. With 90% of our guests traveling from outside of Ohio this ended up being a “destination” wedding for most.

Our wedding day festivities began with a bus ride from downtown Columbus, where most stayed, to the quaint town of Granville, Ohio.

The wedding was hosted on a 52-acre historic estate. It’s rich history and beautiful green landscape hosted 110 of our closest friends and family. Our guests were greeted in the garden of the estate where we said “I Do” with champagne, lemonade, and fans to keep cool on the warm August day.

What made our ceremony so special were our bridesmaids and groomsmen standing by our side, our dog Chloe leading the procession, the adorable flower girls, the ring bearer running around, and a string trio playing “Somewhere over the Rainbow” followed by “Canon in D”. Most importantly, our ceremony was composed of a service both Kris and I wrote together. It was a beautiful yet simple exchange of our vows.

From the ceremony we left the garden and ventured to the front patio of the mansion. While playing classic yard games, including corn hole (which was clearly the crowd favorite), we enjoyed refreshing cocktails, delicious mini grilled cheeses and BBQ chicken. We toured the historic home filled with our family pictures.

Dinner and dancing took place in the back of a mansion underneath a white tent dripped with globe lights and evergreens. The tables were an eclectic mix of restored barn wood tables and pink and cream textured linens. We made our day a family affair by inviting kids and creating a kids table filled with crafts and activities. We gave thanks, dined, and laughed with all of our loved ones.

We definitely didn’t have a shortage of sweets to end the night. From our classic vanilla buttercream wedding cake, to our make-your-own s’mores bar. The highlight of the dessert spread was the 1,000 cookie spread my great aunts, aunts, mother, brother in law and cousins all handmade. From lady locks, to chocolate chips, to pizzelles the guests indulged and left with custom cookie bags filled with delicious homemade goodies.

Everyone told me the day would fly by and they were right. I am so blessed to have beautiful photos, funny stories and the memory of laughter and love to last forever.

A key to making this experience memorable was we truly enjoyed the process and preparation leading up to our wedding. When you spend months planning for one day, you need to have fun along the way. By selecting vendors that clearly align with your personality, values and aesthetic creativity was important to us. These creative partners made the details and our vision come to life. From our print designer, to the florist to the DJ and the photographer. The print designer created everything from the name cards, menus, signage and surprised us with a custom seating chart that she mounted and engraved our initials on a rustic piece of wood. We worked closely with our floral designer who mixed citrus accents with flowers intertwined with herbs and eucalyptus to pull together the entire look seamlessly in the various areas of the celebration, and throughout the bridal party’s arrangements and flower crowns. My husband designed a custom playlist for the cocktail hour & the reception that celebrated specific years and music of importance with our DJ. My hair and makeup was done by my sister, Mindy Thomas, who is a freelance make-up artist and hair stylist. She did a hair change between the cocktail hour and reception, to provide a new look and keep me cool on the warm summer night. The process was just as beautiful as the day.

Romantic Spring Inspiration That Will Give You Major Flower Envy

This pretty inspiration shoot captures all the magic of spring: the femininity, the colors, the romance and the whimsy. And let’s not forget about the gorgeous flowers from Evergreen Flower Co.: Icelandic poppies, garden roses, tulips and ranunculus — oh my! It’s all enough to make me forgive these April showers if they’ll promise to bring May flowers as pretty as these. See all the beauty from Nicole Clarey Photography in The Vault!

From Nicole Clarey PhotographyCold and gloomy days in the Midwest had us dreaming of the warm sun and bright pastels, so when brainstorming with the lovely ladies of Events Held Dear we knew we wanted this styled shoot to encompass all of our favorite elements of Spring: femininity, pastels, romance. Building our inspiration around this clean industrial space made for a beautiful contrast between clean lines and the organic details. Evergreen Floral Co’s playful floral arrangements really brought the space to life, there isn’t a flower that screams Spring more than those pretty poppies!

“No matter how long the Winter, Spring is sure to follow.”

Bridal Shower Inspiration Worth Stealing!

In my perfect world, every day would include an arrangement of blooms like these, but since that’s not always the case I’ll be pinning these pretties for safe keeping. They’re what set the scene for this bridal shower shoot designed by A Charming Fete and photographed by Lauren Gabrielle. Bridesmaids, consider this your visual guide to planning the ultimate pre-wedding celebration.

From A Charming Fete… We wanted to create an elegant feminine vibe within this rustic stone and reclaimed wood tavern. The patio enclosed with steel frame windows showcased a massive stone hearth, creating the perfect focal point when we draped twelve foot long southern smilax vines over its mantle.

We dressed the tables in organic charcoal and white ticking linens with beautiful blush tone napkins. Menu cards were placed over scalloped plates and mini clear boxes filled with champagne bubbles (gummies) were set at each place setting and topped with custom monogram sticker.

The dessert table was a feast of beautiful treats with a variety of French macarons and two pink meringue towers. The chocolate salted caramel cake topped with blush buttercream and intricate sugar flower anemone detail was as pretty as it was delicious. What a gorgeous and perfect day for our lovely bride and groom!

Timeless + Elegant Cleveland City Hall Wedding

When you hear the phrase “city hall wedding,” you probably think of a simple ceremony with only the Bride and Groom present. This is not that kind of city hall wedding. From the Bride’s glamorous backless, ivory lace dress to Molly Taylor Designs‘ gorgeous flowers, this day is truly something special. See it all from Lauren Gabrielle Photography in The Vault!

From The Bride…Joe and I met September 25th in Akron, Ohio at a wedding. My childhood best friend and his cousin were tying the knot and an introduction was inevitable since we were both single and living in New York City. At the end of the evening we exchanged numbers and we had our first date the following week. Fast-forward five years to our wedding date, September 26th. Since we are both from Cleveland, our hometown was the best way to ensure our family and friends would be there to celebrate with us.

For our ceremony, we decided on the breathtaking Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. We looked at four venues downtown before deciding on the City of Cleveland’s Grand Hall Rotunda. It was the perfect compliment to the Cathedral as both had a timeless and elegant feel. Each possessed arched ceilings and marble columns and we knew the sophisticated space would speak for itself. Cocktail hour would be held on the open-air second floor overlooking the reception.

From there, the rest fell into place. In keeping with our timeless and elegant theme, I chose a backless, ivory lace dress with a glamorous vintage feel. I knew it was the one the moment I put it on and I could envision myself holding a hand-tied, flowing, bridal bouquet. To compliment my dress, I chose midnight blue, one-shoulder bridesmaid dresses accessorized with custom jewels from designer and friend, Sarah Johnson.

There were other elements of the day that were incredibly special to me. My mother wrote by hand the place cards for our guests. My father helped by painting various items for our “keys to happiness” display so they were a beautiful gold metallic finish. The diamonds in my wedding band were from pieces of my mother’s own collection and our wedding bands were made by hand by my sister-in-law’s father.

While all of the personalized touches made our reception unique, our flowers really brought the space to life. Our original florist fell through less than a week before our wedding and it was a blessing in disguise. I immediately called Molly Taylor and she was incredible. We had three different designs for our tables with various elements of dahlias, ranunculus and willow eucalyptus to name a few. Her floral creations truly transformed the Rotunda. She brought the three-tier cake decorated with a herringbone pattern to life by tying in complimentary florals on each tier.

It is difficult for me to choose my favorite moment of the day so I settled on two. Taking pictures after the ceremony was so much fun! Joe was incredible and knew how important it was for me to capture this moment in time. He did everything that was asked of him (which required some heavy lifting!) and we had a great time posing for the different shots and going with the flow. Lauren from Lauren Gabrielle Photography was an incredible guide and fun to work with. She truly captured the emotions of our day and we are thrilled with the photos. We are incredibly lucky to have found her and believe our investment in a quality photographer was one of our best decisions during the planning process.

I also loved dancing with my dad. He chose our song himself, Blue Skies by Willie Nelson, and it was perfect. Growing up we loved listening to music together and it was so special to share that moment with him.

To me, our wedding day was flawless and I would not change one thing. I felt as though the day and design truly reflected Joe and I as a couple and was a wonderful way to start our new life together. My advice for brides-to-be is to take your planner hat off several days before your wedding day. I made sure everything was ready to go and taken care of the week before and the few days leading up to the wedding were relatively stress-free. This really allowed me to take in the experience and to be present. I treated the morning of our wedding like any other day. I went to the gym, had a latte and enjoyed the company of my friends. I made up my mind our wedding would be perfect long before the day arrived and in the company of our closest family and friends, I was so excited to see Joe at the end of the aisle that afternoon.

When Her Dad Got a Life-Threatening Diagnosis, She Put on a Wedding Dress

Every girl dreams of that moment her dad sees her in the wedding dress. The moment he walks her down the aisle. The moment they share a father-daughter dance to their special song. It was precious moments like this Emily Millay knew she might never get when her father’s illness took a tragic turn, so she decided to plan the ultimate surprise. Wearing a replica of grandmother’s gown, she met him on the steps of the Cleveland Museum of Art for a “wedding day” first look, photo shoot, and father-daughter dance. The day resulted in photos she’ll cherish forever, and in honor of her late father we invite you to see the truly beautiful moments captured.

From Emily MillayA girl is never too old to play dress up with her daddy. When our family learned that my father’s illness was getting worse and time was limited, there were a few things that instantly crossed my mind. One of them being that I might not have my dad to walk me down the aisle or to see me on my wedding day in a wedding dress – these beautiful moments that I photograph weekend after weekend for so many of my brides.

This thought absolutely broke my heart. He is a father of three girls. Three girls that, like every other, look forward to those moments. How could it be possible for him to miss out on such a day and many other milestones in our lives. But this one stuck with me. So I thought, why not make it happen? Certainly a crazy thought at first, but now I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

We played dress up for the last time. -Emily

I wanted a replica wedding dress of my grandmother’s made, and we did just that. We played dress up for the last time. I simply told him to meet me at the art museum – I didn’t want to spoil the surprise. After the “first look” I had one of my favorite Irish bands, Mary’s Lane, play a song for us to dance to so my father could experience that moment, as well.

Other special details include great grandmother’s forget me not pin as “something blue”, a pearl bracelet that was my mother’s “something borrowed”, and my grandmother’s mother of pearl ring as “something old”. The freesia boutonniere was selected because my father’s nickname when he first met my mother was “The Freesia Man”. Also, the 28 buttons on the back of my dress were taken off my grandmother’s wedding dress. I chose a handful of photographers to help me with this photo shoot, each one playing a different part in the day.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with these photos at the time. However, my father passed away in the beginning of February, I thought now I would share these photos with everyone. Perhaps it will be a reminder to be grateful for the people who are with you on your wedding day, and every day.

See their special father-daughter dance!

Elegant Ohio Blush Ballroom Wedding

Say hello to modern Cinderella glass slippers—these jewel encrusted Miu Miu heels. I’m completely uhbsessed and pretty sure they’d be my shoe of choice if I were a ballroom Bride. At a ballroom wedding planned by A Charming Fete, to boot. Every corner is tucked with blooms, and personalized details like the gold foiled “That’s Amore” cocktail napkins for this couple with deep Italian roots. Like what you see? Lauren Gabrielle has more waiting for you in THE VAULT!

From A Charming FeteWe worked closely with this gorgeous New York couple, Nicole and Robert, to plan and design their impeccably elegant and timeless wedding celebration. Both the bride and groom have deep rooted Italian heritage so we wanted to weave in some cultural elements while still keeping the tone refined and sophisticated. The couple chose to wed in a gorgeous historic Roman Catholic church in the bride’s hometown near Youngstown, Ohio. Nicole has exquisite taste and carefully selected each element from the most beautiful gold foil custom stationery suite down to her jewel encrusted Miu Miu heels. She was the picture of perfection throughout the entire day, donning a gorgeous silk slip and robe number during hair and makeup application and then changing into the most beautiful Mark Zunino gown and cathedral veil. Robert was a perfect complement to her beauty, looking dapper and polished in a tailored navy tuxedo with sharp black lapel. From a design aspect, we wanted to maintain a soft dreamy color palette mostly all whites and creams with the softest blush nude tones. Cloudlike lush florals full of garden roses and spray roses in the softest colors popped against the rich gold accents on the tablescape. The sweets table showcased samplings of mini cannoli from the best local Italian pastry shop alongside other traditional cookies. This was all just an accent to the beautiful three tiered wedding cake with intricate sugar flower and metallic gold detailing. Gold foil cocktail napkins inscribed with “That’s Amore” were passed with hors d’oeuvres and southern Italian limoncello was served at the bar throughout the evening. It was truly an honor to be a part of their special day!

Cozy + Sweet Engagement Session in Columbus, Ohio

Kathleen & Kyle just get me. Why? Uhm, probably because their engagement session from the lens of Henry Photography was primarily focused on two very important things: donuts and wine. Add in a splash of their seriously sweet love and you’ve got yourself a gallery that is as adorable as a basket full of puppies. See it all in THE VAULT!

From Henry PhotographyKathleen & Kyle live in the most adorable part of Columbus, German Village. Surrounded by brick roads, swanky restaurants, a fabulous park and lots of gorgeous homes. When they told me they wanted a cozy engagement session with some of their favorites in the park, I was so excited. Kathleen gave me some serious hair envy and wore the most adorable kate spade boots while Kyle had on plaid and brought his favorite donuts. Cheese, wine and donuts in the park was exactly what this couple loves. We walked around their neighborhood at all their favorite spots and we chased the sun until it was setting. Capturing their joy and laughter was more of a gift to me, they were completely smitten with eachother.

Marriage Matters: One Year Anniversary Shoot

You know why we love weddings? Because weddings lead to beautiful marriages, and you know we’re all about that. Take Book and Chet and their one year anniversary as example. For the goal of their one year anniversary session was so that these two could relieve the magic that they felt just a year prior, and we happen to think they nailed every darn detail. With Julie Paisley behind the lens this is one celebration you’ve got to see, waiting for you in THE VAULT!

From Julie PaisleyA wedding day can be rushed. So many emotions, timelines, and trying to please everyone sometimes leaves little time for many pictures of the bride and groom. But, what if you get back dressed up on your one year anniversary and relive all those moments again? You spend so much money on the perfect dress, isn’t it fun to wear it again? That is exactly what Brooke and Chet did. We had amazing time “recreating” their day and celebrating that first year of being husband and wife.

From The Couple…Our relationship started off as very good friends and blossomed into something very special. We seemed almost drawn to one another from the start. We found that we had very similar beliefs about life and found that we had many things in common. Early on in our relationship we faced the tragic losses of parents and grandparents. This time was unspeakably hard. We leaned on each other for support and in this time became a closer and more connected couple because of it.

Five years later we were planning a wedding. We had so much fun planning our big day. The day was so surreal, unique and special. We loved celebrating our love and being surrounding by our loved ones. Having the opportunity to get dressed back up in our wedding attire and model for Julie Paisley’s workshop was amazing. It brought back so many fond memories of our big day. We are thankful to Julie for giving us the opportunity to relive the memories of our wedding day with this shoot.

Our first year of marriage has flown by right before our eyes. Little has changed in our relationship since becoming husband and wife but the fact is our connection has only become stronger. It is a connection that words fail to express but is very real to us. Our first year of marriage has been partly spent supporting each other in starting and growing our own businesses. One of the pillars of our relationship from the beginning has been supporting one another. When we were not working we spend time planning trips as we have a passion for travel. We make seeing new and exciting places together a priority in our relationship. Having these adventures with the person you love the most in the world makes every adventure that much more special. We also adopted a little white fur ball named Lynxie. This little cat has been the perfect addition to our family of three and has enriched our lives.

Our first year of marriage has been full of excitement, support, love and adventure. We cannot wait to see what our future holds.

From the Bride… I’ll always remember that first date. I hadn’t been that nervous since I was a teenager. I slowly walked up to the sushi restaurant and took a deep breath. There he was. Handsome, smiling ear to ear and standing to pull out my chair. When dinner was over, we headed next door for yogurt where we sat on the patio, talking and laughing for hours. I’ll never forget when Kevin ran into a little Greek restaurant next door and bought grape leaves; which I thought was a little odd, but moved past it quickly. He later told me he had watched the owner looking out the window with no customers and felt compelled to give him a little business. I was already falling in love with this man.

Kevin later asked me, “When did you know?” I told him, “Date two.” On date two, I was even more nervous than that first date. My heart raced as I approached him, but there was something so calming about his demeanor and presence. Our cheeks hurt so much from laughing so hard for hours on end. As the restaurant was closing and he walked me to my car, we made plans for the next night. From that moment on, we both knew something magical was happening.

Eight months later, on our way home from a family vacation, Kevin stopped at Tiffany & Co., saying we should look at rings. That day was just as I would’ve imagined. Kevin’s challenge in a proposal was that I just wanted to be surprised. 11 months into our relationship, I arrived at Kevin’s for an ordinary Saturday night of dinner and a movie. He had a beautiful bouquet and box of truffles waiting for me; which didn’t strike me as odd; he’s no stranger to romantic gestures. As usual, he asked if we could have a chocolate before dinner. I opened the box to find he had already eaten a truffle…and replaced it with a stunning engagement ring. Completely surprised, I turned to find him on one knee.

11 months later, all of our planning came together in a beautiful, flawless, incredibly happy day. There may have been flaws or mishaps, but if there were, we never knew. From the intimate garden ceremony to the cocktail hour behind a beautiful, historic mansion to the tented reception… everything was perfect to us. Our team of vendors had come together to create a fairytale wedding including personal touches. Our favors were jams brought in from my favorite Santa Barbara farmer’s market from my time living there, sushi appetizers reminiscent of our first date, truffles to remind us of our engagement and surprise groom’s cupcakes with words Kevin’s friends and family used to describe him were just a few of the personal touches. And this begins our story…

Organic + Ethereal Beachside Wedding Inspiration

On the shores of Lake Erie, A Charming Fete created an elegant, organic wedding wish come true, with Borrow Rentals‘ pretty pieces and not one, but two, beautiful gowns. Inspired by the blue-hued beach pebbles, shells and sparkling water, Emily Millay captured a scene that I could get quite comfortable in – and that’s what I’m happy to do today in our VAULT – join me right here!

From A Charming Fete… The rocky shell and pebble covered beach of Lake Erie was the inspiration and backdrop for this newlywed styled shoot. We wanted to capture the story during the cool blue and foggy gray light of the early morning. Beautiful flecks of light started to shine through as the sun rose. Waves rolled onto the shore where we created a water inspired sweetheart table with clear Lucite napoleon chairs, vintage whitewash table, slate colored napkins and tons of vintage sterling candlesticks. White clematis vine draped onto the simple yet elegant tablescape. Fresh floral and vines decorated a minimalist cake set atop a wood and marble cake platter. The blue moody calligraphed stationery pulled in the color tones of the shore. Our model dipped her toes into the shore and plunged a little deeper into the open water. She changed into a second dress, a mist blue/gray gown with sheer sleeves and high front slit, her long wavy hair blew with the breeze. Her airy neutral bouquet of garden roses, clematis, astilbe and lisianthus wrapped in draping hand-dyed silk ribbons washed ashore.

Romantic + Cultural Lakefront Tented Wedding

Wrapped up in whimsy, A Charming Fete just gets us. Because not only did they always craft seriously gorg weddings, but they’ve also attract the coolest clients. Take this Bride who donned the biggest grin and loveliest of lovely lace gowns. It’s the type of pretty made all the more memorable thanks to Borrow Rentals and Aster + Olive Photography snapping up every detail. See it all in THE VAULT!

From A Charming Fete… Dominique and Michael were one of the most lovely, cultured and well-traveled couples we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. When we met them they were splitting their time between Myanmar (Southeast Asia) and New York City but decided to host their wedding at the groom’s father’s breathtaking lakefront property in Cleveland, Ohio.

They wanted their wedding to be a little less traditional and more of a huge celebration, a gathering of friends and family coming together from across the globe. In lieu of a guestbook, guests pinned a note onto their home country on a giant world map. There was no shortage of international representation with a DJ who flew in from London and the officiant (who actually introduced the couple) flew in from Bangkok to marry them. The heartfelt ceremony took place on the water’s edge with guests overlooking the scene from the upper level of the modern beach house deck. The gardens were pristine and the multi-level decks and stone pathways leading from the home to the shore held several resting spots and even a cocktail bar where guests could stop and refresh.

The vibe of the dinner tents was natural and organic with neutral blue toned florals and blue-stripe bistro napkins. The dessert table hosted an array of deliciousness made by a New York City pastry chef and dear friend of the bride and groom, who had come into town for the preparations. The dessert bar included an assortment of Momofuku Milkbar cakes, chocolate filled croquembouches and carrot halwa (a traditional South Asian wedding dessert). The groom’s mother, a local artist made sake cups for all of the guests and the bride and groom led in a sake toast, the champagne was served at the bar. At dusk the beach house lit up the night and the real party began. The perfect end to this evening was the massive fireworks display that filled the sky, exploding over the lake in celebration of the most magical and perfect day. It was an absolute honor to take part in their wedding celebration.

Romantic Outdoor Bohemian Woodland Wedding

Truth be told, there are very few things that I love more than a wedding graced with Jenny Yoo gowns. Surrounded by tall trees, DIY details, and some seriously delish homemade food, it’s a boho chic soiree you’re going to fall head over heels in love with. Because who doesn’t love an evening that ends with a bonfire and s’mores?! Get in on the chicness thanks to Leigh Elizabeth Photography in The Vault!

Bohemian

From The Bride…Our wedding day was a complete dream. From the beginning I knew I wanted a boho woodland style wedding, so we chose a venue that had a perfect spot for the ceremony to be outside, surrounded by tall trees, and also had a rustic lodge for the reception. Going with the boho theme, the decor included lots of amber and milk glass, lace, complete with a few gold accents. Collecting bottles and lace from antique shops was becoming super pricy but thankfully two of my best friends who were also bridesmaids own an event planning and rental business so I was able to borrow quite a bit from them! I like to think I am decently crafty, so I made a lot of the signs and a few decorations myself. My most favorite decoration I made was the M & V banner that hung over the fireplace. Since our color palette was pretty neutral, I loved the idea of having the entire venue overflowing with different textures and types of greenery, and for the flowers we stuck with simple white and soft pink garden roses. I found my wedding dress at BHLDN, and my aunt made the beautiful lace topper that I wore with it. The bridesmaids chose their own dresses, which all had different textures of fabric in shades of cream. Matt and I are both pretty laid back people so we wanted our wedding day to be a reflection of that. A family friend made all of our food (BBQ pulled pork, Matt’s fave and about the only input he gave when we were planning!), there was a bonfire with cozy blankets and s’mores for roasting, picnic tables roped off with string lights for guests to mingle outside, and partying and dancing inside the lodge. The day was such a whirlwind and went by way too fast but it was by far the greatest day of our lives and my heart aches to go back and relive it!!

My most favorite part of our wedding day was the few moments immediately after the ceremony ended. Matt and I had made our way back down the aisle, out of the ceremony entrance and we just held each other for a minute while we soaked up what just happened. Our wedding party followed behind us, then we celebrated and hugged with lots of laughs, smiles, and happy tears!

Advice for Other Brides is to hire a videographer. No matter how much you try to soak up all the moments, smells, sounds, and feelings, your adrenaline levels will be so high that you will forget so much. Even though I can never go back and relive our wedding day, at least I have the most important moments on film to remind me of how wonderful it was.

Sweet + Elegant Cleveland Country Club Wedding

What started as a senior prom date turned into forever when these high school sweethearts became husband and wife. Their perfect day included timeless touches like the Bride’s gorgeous lace gown, stunning flowers and the classic country club reception planned by Kirkbrides and featuring Borrow Rentals‘ vintage furniture. See it all from Emily Millay Photography in The Vault.

From The Bride…Trent and I went to high school together, but didn’t start dating until he asked me to senior prom (seriously, the last possible moment to start dating during high school!) The timing ended up being perfect because we coincidentally had plans to attend the same college after high school graduation. After four years together in college, we had to move to different cities for our careers so we dated long-distance for a bit while I lived in Chicago and he moved back to Cleveland. I eventually made my way back to Cleveland because I missed him and we both prefer to be closer to our families anyway! He proposed on our 6-year dating anniversary in the Cayman Islands (quite an improvement from when he asked me to prom passing through the hallway!).

We couldn’t wait to start planning our Wedding! After selecting our church and venue together, I loved meeting with my fabulous team of vendors and planning the “little” details that made it personable! My main goal was to make sure our Wedding felt timeless because I didn’t want to look back at it in 20+ years and say, “what was I thinking!?” Our Wedding day truly was a dream! Since I tend to be an emotional person, the day started with many tears as my Bridesmaids and I got ready (I mean, I have been dreaming of this day since I was a little girl and it was suddenly here!). But, it quickly turned into smiles and pure joy all around as I made my way down the aisle towards my handsome groom at St. Paul Shrine! Following the ceremony, we took pictures at the gorgeous Cleveland Museum of Art (obsessed!) before heading to our reception at Westwood Country Club. It was the perfect scene starting with the gorgeous patio at cocktail hour complemented with vintage furniture from Borrow Vintage and Eclectic Rentals, an oyster bar and signature beverages! The reception was brought together by the stunning floral centerpieces by Molly Taylor and Co., an “almost too pretty to eat” cake by Wild Flour Bakery and a packed dance floor following dinner (who doesn’t love that?!) Trent and I couldn’t have been more happy with what we call our “best day ever!” To top it all off, it was a beautiful sunny day in Cleveland, Ohio.

Romantic + Elegant Outdoor Garden Wedding

A naturally elegant evening planned in the hands of A Charming Fete complete with crisp white details and first of the season peonies is without a doubt my happy place. From the historic English tudor mansion that housed their reception, to the garden ceremony in front of an moss covered teahouse, every detail Lauren Gabrielle Photography captured is divine. See it all here!

From Lisa of A Charming Fête… We began planning Kelly and Doug’s elegant Chagrin Falls wedding less than 6 months prior to their wedding date. We wanted to give these two career driven professionals (the bride with Apple and groom with Accenture) an unforgettable day, a moment to slow down and breathe-in this precious time with family and friends. Their timeless and naturally elegant affair took place at a historic English tudor mansion. It was a truly a lush garden scene on a picture perfect 75 degree day. The outdoor ceremony took place in front of a small teahouse with moss and ivy creeping up the sides all set to lovely strings music. Wispy white curtain draping was pulled open to welcome guests into the dinner space. The color palette was mostly neutral aside from hints of pale blush and peach garden roses and lilac branches foraged by the amazing ladies at Molly Taylor and Co. Beautiful and natural centerpieces filled the space. Airy lilac branches bloomed from above. First of the season peonies in the palest muted hues burst onto the greenery filled low centerpieces. Olive branch and jasmine vine spilled gently onto the tables in a similar fashion to the bride’s spectacular asymmetrical bouquet. Wood farm tables with crisp white details and pewter accents kept the tablescape feeling fresh. Special wine selections made by the couple were served during dinner and Mitchell’s homemade ice cream (the bride’s favorite) was hand-scooped into cones and offered as a late night treat. It was a magical day filled with so much beauty. We were honored to be a part of Kelly and Doug’s special day.

Blush + Coral Downtown Columbus Wedding

This downtown Columbus church wedding with a reception at the rustic High Line Car House will have you dreaming in blush and coral! Our eyes first gravitated toward the beautiful blooms from Rose Bredl, but then details like whimsical calligraphy, watercolor menus (by Auburn & Ivory Creative) and mini cakes took our love over the top! See all the lovely shots by Leigh Elizabeth Photography right here!

From the beautiful Bride… It sounds cliché and we had to consciously remind ourselves not to roll our eyes when people said it to us, but you have no idea how quickly the day goes by. For us, it was 10 months of planning, a lifetime of dreaming, all for a day that seemed to be over in the blink of an eye.

The day was perfect. All the anxiety over weather and everything going perfectly seemed to disappear when we woke up. Sure, it was 80 degrees with a nearly-stifling humidity, but that beats the endless rain and thunderstorms that had preceded and followed our wedding day for weeks. We got ready at the amazing Renaissance hotel in downtown Columbus. We were surrounded by our friends and family. For Lorie, that was nine bridesmaids, her mom, the two sweetest flower girls in the world and their mom. For Jared, that was his eight groomsmen, his dad and Lorie’s dad. When it came to the size of our wedding party, we always felt a little anxious and judged by people’s reactions: “Oh wow, you have a bridal party of 19? Sure seems like a lot.” The truth is, it was a lot, but we wouldn’t have changed it for anything. Getting ready with the people that make us happiest, the people who have been around us since the day we met, people who have watched our relationship grow from a chance encounter to our happily-ever-after. The hours before the wedding were filled with laughter, storytelling, a few tears the inevitable and the “I’m somewhat kidding, but really…” question: Are you sure?

We took a trolley from the Renaissance to Holy Cross Catholic church. Our ceremony began at 4:30 and the church was filled with 200 of our closest friends and family waiting to be witness to our commitment to one another for the rest of our lives. As we listened to the words of the readings, and the homily from the priest, we both became a little anxious for our “public speaking” moment – of course we couldn’t wait to say our vows to each other, but there’s something to be said for two people who have always played more of the supporting role vs. the spotlight, a way of life we both prefer. The moment we found ourselves reciting words after the priest all of a sudden felt like we were the only two people in the church. It was just us, making a promise to each other, to love and support one another for all the days of our lives. Before we knew it, we were being announced as “Mr. and Mrs. Holt,” we jumped the broom and we were off for the celebration.

On the way, Leigh took us to the most amazing spot in German Village. A small street with the most amazing light from the lowering sun and a spot that captured all the beauty and history of our home city. This is where we captured our favorite pictures from the day. Looking at the photos now, wow, we really did have quite the wedding party! And we’re sure we placed before Leigh a challenge of logistics and gathering everyone’s attention, but she amazingly got all 21 people to cooperate and look beautiful for the camera.

The reception. All along we both said we wanted a party. We really wanted people to celebrate with us. We were announced to Jay Z’s “Public Service Announcement” and from that moment, we knew we were in for the celebration we had wanted. After dinner and our discrete cake tasting (remember that “attention” thing? Turns out the fear of public speaking also gave way to a fear of public eating), we both did our parent dances, and with the first song following Jared’s dance with his mom the dance floor was full of our friends and family. We took photos, toasted to our life together and spent the night turning “remember when…” stories into our new beginning stories.

When the last song was played, we walked across the street to Victory’s. A night of promise-making, laughter and dancing, turned into just one more drink, a slice a pizza and an ending similar to the way our day began, with telling stories of the best day of our lives.

The Groom’s favorite moment… Obviously, the first time we saw each other as Lorie walked down the aisle and the moment we were announced come to mind, but truly, our favorite moment of the day was the trolley ride from the ceremony to the reception. We were officially husband and wife. We were surrounded by our best friends, music was playing and someone had just popped open a bottle of champagne. It’s nearly impossible to put into words how much happiness was among us in that moment. From the back of the trolley, where we sat, we could see everyone who had been a part of our journey as a couple from the moment we met until our wedding day: the people who had been a part of our happiness for the past three years and people who would be by our sides for the happiness yet to come in our lives.

Any advice for other brides… My greatest piece of advice is that through all the planning and worrying and excitement, make sure your wedding day is still about you and the person you love. You can’t control what will happen the day of your wedding and that was a bit scary for a detail-oriented person like me. However, I knew the end of the day wasn’t going to change, regardless of any faux pas or things gone wrong. Jared and I would be married and that was most important to me. With that in mind, my wedding day was filled with laughter and excitement, not worry and stress. If something went wrong, our amazing wedding planner, Meredith, made sure it was dealt with and, more importantly, that it didn’t make its way back to me (which was amazing, I worked with Meredith because she is unbelievably talented and all along, I trusted her vision and her intuition). If you surround yourself with people you love and people who make you happy on your wedding day, you won’t worry about the small details or even allow yourself to think about things you might have forgotten. Even when you decide to share a champagne toast with your nine best friends after you are all ready and dressed and “somehow” the cork flies off and there is champagne heading straight for your wedding gown, the moment immediately bypasses panic and goes straight to laugh-until-you-cry. Your day will be what you make of it, and I chose to make it the happiest day of my life.

Oak Openings Preserve Engagement Session

We’re basking in the sun-kissed bliss of this outdoor engagement session at the Oak Openings Preserve! The adorable couple, looking every bit in love, enjoy tender moments like slow dancing in the woods and lakeside snuggles that get our hearts all aflutter. Jenna Nicole Photo captures all the magic in the full gallery right here!

From Jenna Nicole Photo… From the sunlight, leaves and reflection on the water to the candid dancing in the meadow, this engagement session can be described by one word: magical. It was one of the sessions where the light is just right and the couple’s love seems to flow through the pictures as easily as the light glides through the lens.

Josh and Jess are so near to my heart. As my older sister, Jess has always been a best friend to me. To see Josh become a best friend to her and then capture that companionship on camera seems almost too good to be true.

Jess and I always say “The joy isn’t complete until it is shared.” I had the privilege of completing her joy by holding this season of life in still frames, telling in pictures what their love speaks out loud, and what a joy it is for me to share this story with all of you.

Fabulous Multicultural Wedding in Cleveland

Uniting a global guestbook for one fabulous multicultural affair, this Cleveland celebration is sure to be a new favorite. Especially when the uber talented Arielle Doneson Photography is behind the lens. It’s a gorgeous day graced with stunning shades of coral,  La Tavola Linens, and festive traditions.  See it all in the show-stopping gallery, right over here!

From Gina of Shi Shi EventsElif & Emeka’s wedding was some of the most fun we’ve ever had planning! Both the bride and groom come from loving, warm families and that energy was greatly felt throughout the planning process. The couple lives in Turkey, the bride’s native country, so while we planned with them remotely, much of our time was spent with the groom’s parents planning this fantastic Nigerian wedding celebration. The guest list was sizable and from all over the world, so we needed a reception venue that was not only large but also one that could accommodate all of our overnight international guests. The Renaissance Cleveland Hotel was the perfect fit combining the beauty and accommodations of a historic downtown hotel with their voluminous Grand Ballroom as our reception venue.

Elif & Emeka wanted a vibrant yet clean color palette. Coral was super appealing to them so we added white and silver to round it out and ground the ultra bold elements. We enlisted the floral design expertise of Heather Thomas at HeatherLily who created stunning traditionally glamorous centerpieces for the ballroom. Additionally for the ceremony , she adorned the altar of Church of the Gesu with large urns overflowing with roses & stock. White Flower Cake Shoppe created a stunning buttercream cake with cascading sugar flowers in shades of coral and we chose linens from La Tavola Linen. I especially loved La Tavola’s Chain linen cap in silver against the classic buttercream cake and their Rigel linen provided just the right amount of pattern and texture against the silver sponge chargers and floral tablescape. Guests danced the night away under a canopy of twinkling lights. The evening was made even more festive when Elif & Emeka changed into traditional Nigerian wedding attire & the bride was marched in by her new mother-in-law’s women of honor. It was such a celebration of love & the couple’s new life together as husband & wife!

Organic + Elegant Inn Walden Wedding

Said best by the couple’s Dads: “If you have a couple in love, a good band, and good booze, there’s no way the night won’t be one to remember.” So is true with this organic fete from Arielle Doneson. Woven with elegance, rentals from Borrow Rentals and a design by Shi-Shi Events, this duo focused their day around their guests’ enjoyment and from the likes of this gallery, it was surely a memorable one!

From the beautiful Bride… Before we started thinking about a wedding style we both knew our ideal wedding would be under a beautiful tent surrounded by nature. Our wedding planner helped us find the perfect venue which allowed us to make our dream a reality. Most of our planning focused on making our guests comfortable; from transporting everyone from our guest hotel, to a late night food truck, to ensuring there were enough staff to handle our crowd, to having enough bars so no one waited for a drink, everything was decided with an eye towards guest enjoyment.

It was very important to me that our wedding did not scream “the bride picked everything.” I really wanted a style that reflected both of our personalities. I’m very classic and have simple taste, my husband enjoys the outdoors and wanted to incorporate “naturalistic” elements; but we both wanted elegance and formality. As my husband said, “It’s my wedding, it’s a special occasion, and everyone looks better in a tux.” This led us to pair elegant linens, gold chiavari chairs, ornate chandeliers, and mirrored flower vases, with wooden farm tables, a leaf lighting pattern for the tent canopy, and little touches like green garland on the backs of our chairs for dinner. Everything came together beautifully and I was blown away by how pretty it was.

We splurged on the things that matter most to us: the venue, the band, the booze, and photography. Our dads decided from the first day of planning, “If you have a couple in love, a good band, and good booze, the there’s no way the night won’t be one to remember.”

For our ceremony, we wanted to elements meaningful to us, and elements meaningful to our families. My grandmother is Jewish, so as a nod to her we had a Chuppah and did the breaking of the glass ceremony. My husband’s family is Catholic and part Irish, so we incorporated an Irish blessing. We incorporated literary readings that we felt encaptured the importance and meaning of marriage. We asked a Federal Judge who is also a family friend to officiate, which was especially special for me as I had just graduated from law school. As a surprise, we didn’t tell anyone what song would play for the processional or recessional. We had a string trio play “Just like Heaven” when I walked down the aisle, but my husband insisted he wanted his own song so they played “Stand by Me” as he and the bridal party walked down the aisle. Then we recessed to “Wouldn’t it Be Nice.” We saw that as a way to kick off the party after a serious, emotional ceremony. Our ceremony was certainly eclectic, but it reflected our backgrounds and our future together.

We also wanted to incorporate as much as possible our hometown, Cleveland. For many of our guests, this was their first visit to Cleveland, and we wanted to make it memorable. We included Malley’s Chocolate bars in arrival bags, we served as a signature drink Great Lakes Dortmunder beer, and our late-night snack was burgers and shakes from an Akron establishment, Swensons served from their food truck.
