When a Wedding Planner Gets Married, This is the Beautiful Result.

We’ve long admired Leigh Pearce for her ability to infuse pretty into many a wedding. But today? We get to relish in the beauty of her very own Big Day. And boy are those details lovely—but she sure does steal the show. Don’t miss her story below and when you’re done, head to The Vault for the full gallery by Anna Paschal!

From the Bride, Leigh Pearce EventsAfter tossing around some ideas about destination weddings, my high school sweetheart, Bryan, and I decided on a local wedding with a small guest list of only 65 of our closest family and friends. We chose the Weir-Jordan House in downtown Greensboro for our venue and set the date for October 22, two days after our 14 year dating anniversary. We loved everything about the Weir-Jordan from it’s Southern antebellum feel to it’s rich history (it is one of the oldest houses in Greensboro). It checked every box for us — an outdoor ceremony space, a spot for a tent, and an amazing in-house caterer.

Next step – select our bridal party! We ultimately decided not to have a large party — all of my girlfriends are married with children or pregnant so I wanted to make the day as relaxed and enjoyable for them as possible. We all got ready together and it was SO much fun. Surprisingly, my best friend from high school went into labor in the middle of the night before the wedding and obviously had to miss the wedding. I took my wedding dress and crashed her newborn session a few weeks later so we could have pictures together! My sister was my maid of honor and looked beautiful in her Jenny Yoo gown .. the fabric and layers of her dress tied in with mine perfectly. Bryan’s best man, in true Southern fashion, was his father. They looked so dapper in their black tuxedos! Some of my other favorite fashionable details were my pearl necklace and my shoes. My two favorite movies are Steel Magnolias and Father of the Bride. My mom, sister, sister-in-law, and best friend hosted a Steel Magnolias themed bridal shower for me, complete with red velvet armadillo cupcakes! As an homage to Father of the Bride, I was on a mission to find some cool sneakers and fell in love with these lace high tops from Anthropologie.

Funny enough, Bryan is the one that brought up the idea of a first look! I am wedding planner so in all my sharing about work, he must have picked up a thing or two. Their is an upstairs, private, Charleston-esque porch at our venue that was an ideal location for a first look. Although we decided not to give each other wedding gifts, I surprised Bryan during our first look with my dad’s gold cuff links. He passed away a few years ago and I thought it would be the perfect way to have him there in spirit. After our first look, we hopped in the car for photos at a favorite local spot, The Proximity Hotel. We really enjoyed having some alone time together before the craziness set it. We highly recommend it!

For our design, we kept everything elegant, timeless, and classic. Our florist, the Farmer’s Wife, has always been our family florist so it was a no brainer to work with Stacy on our wedding. She is truly like family and created floral magic for us! Maxie B’s made my wedding cake dreams come true with our stunning cake (and Bryan’s dream come true with a layer of Devil’s food cake!). One of my only major must haves was a clear top tent with big chandeliers and a black and white dance floor that I could twirl on. Mission accomplished!!

Our ceremony was absolutely perfect and by far, my favorite part of the day. I loved our music selections: an instrumental version of Rivers and Roads by The Head and The Heart for our parents and wedding party and an instrumental version of Amarillo by Morning by George Strait, my dad’s favorite song. We had two special readings. A scripture reading by one of our very best friends as well as poem read by Bryan’s sister. We walked back down the aisle to a mash up of Ants Marching and Ode to Joy.

After the ceremony, we sent our guests inside to warm up and for cocktail hour and dinner. Stacy with Savory Street Catering created an amazing custom menu for us! Some of the highlights were pulled pork and collard egg rolls with mango chutney, crab hush puppies with Cajun aioli, butternut squash ravioli, beef tenderloin with white cheddar grit cakes, and mini tomato pies.

After dinner, we danced the night away! Our first dance was “You & Me” by Dave Matthews Band. We have been to countless DMB concerts so it was only fitting that we danced to Dave. The chorus is also perfect for a few twirls! Later in the evening while cake was served, we offered a few more desserts. Bryan has a serious sweet tooth and is, hands down, the biggest Pepsi addict you will ever meet. We offered ice cream float shooters along with cake.. three kinds: Pepsi, Sundrop, and Cheerwine. So good!!

We ended the night with a glowing sparkler exit and hopped in a London taxi cab headed for O. Henry Hotel. It was the perfect day and we couldn’t be more grateful for the experience!

Super Stylish Garden Wedding

A garden wedding is always a good idea and when the Bride is as stylish as this one, it gets even better (I mean, just check out those earrings!). She was positively glowing and made sure to spread her style secrets to her bridesmaids, decked out in Jenny Yoo. Theo Milo captured all the looks and Light Cannon Films got in on the live action – see their clip below and all the pics in our Vault gallery right this way!

From Theo MiloWhen your friends and family are willing to travel great distances in hurricane-force weather, you know you’ve built some great relationships. And their guests could back that up – there were many testimonies given in the speeches and the more intimate moments of the times that Camille and Josh put others first, made time for family, and prioritized the important relationships in their lives. Even when Camille moved to New York to pursue her acting career, and even when Josh began to pursue Camille (a worthy pursuit, if you ask us!), they never forgot their roots, and the people that got them there.

Amidst the lavish Spanish moss and live oaks of Airlie Gardens, and the understated brick walls of Bakery 105 in historic downtown Wilmington, all of those lasting friendships and family ties came together for one beautiful celebration. The gorgeous details, signage, candles, garlands, and sweet details were no less extravagant than what this occasion deserved, and provided the perfect twinkling, effervescent backdrop suitable for such a romance.

This Groom-to-be Proposed the First Night He Met Her

These dreamy cliffside engagement images from Holeigh V Photography would be enough for my swoon mode to go in full force. But once I read the sweet story behind this couple’s first meeting and then their Christmas tree proposal? The bar was raised on my swoon-meter. Once you’re done with The Vault gallery make sure to read the charming details below!

From Holeigh V PhotographyJacquelyn & Alex are originally from Kentucky but absolutely love the mountains and wanted a gorgeous overlook for their laid-back engagement session. They traveled to Blowing Rock, North Carolina on the Blue Ridge Parkway and after a short hike to the top, we were in awe of the view! The birds were flying over and her creamy dress flowed in the wind. By the time the sun began to set over the side of the mountain, the clouds came in and created a dramatic effect. Jacquelyn donned a gorgeous fitted lace maxi dress and crown from eucalyptus, her favorite greenery.

From the Bride… It’s a funny story how Alex and I first met because he actually got down one knee and proposed to me! He proclaimed that he had never met anyone like me and I was the ‘perfect’ girl for him. I had just moved back from NYC to my hometown Louisville, KY when my cousin invited me to go out with her and her friends to the bars. Once I arrived I was quickly introduced to everyone including Alex. We quickly found that we had a lot in common since we’ve both lived in New York.

As the night progress and the drinks flowed Alex actually proclaimed his love for me and proposed. I laughed off the proclamation and honestly didn’t think much more of the night or Alex afterwards. Months later I went back out with my cousin and ran into Alex. He was so embarrassed and admitted he never thought he would see me again and apologized for coming on too strong. We laughed about the night and began a friendship that would eventually turn into love.

Three months after the second meeting of Alex my father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Devastated, I found myself turning to my new friend, Alex to lean on. We both quickly began to realize we were much more than friends. Alex was my saving grace throughout that time in my life and for that I am forever grateful. We dated for 2.5 years before we were engaged.

It was the weekend before Thanksgiving and we decided to put up and decorate our first Christmas tree together. Our mothers had given us our childhood ornaments so we were trading stories and showing off our favorites to each other. I turned away for a moment when Alex pointed to the tree and asked “What’s this one here?” I got up to the tree and it was an old wooden ornament that said “You for the rest of my life” with a diamond engagement ring tied around it. I looked at Alex and he was down on one knee. I honestly don’t remember much more after that as I was just so excited. He surprised me with having reservations at my favorite restaurant to celebrate. Once we arrived my mom and his parents were there to celebrate with us. It was the perfect night.

A Fashion Blogger’s Unique Southern Wedding

It’s no surprise that when bloggers become brides it results in some of the coolest weddings you’ll ever come across. Just take Laura Leigh, the fashion and lifestyle blogger behind Louella Reese who wed her love, Joshua in a day that mixes whimsy with Southern tradition. From her green plaid heels to the bridesmaids in a floral print, there are so many ideas you’ll want to steal for yourself. Grab a peek in the gallery by Faith Teasley.

From the Bride… I am so thrilled to share all of the details of our wedding day. It’s been just about two months since we said “I do” and the day was truly everything we could have dreamt of. Every day I am filled with more love and excitement to have the man of my dreams standing next to me. And to have made that commitment in front of our family and closest friends.

Our wedding celebration was themed rustic romance. This theme fit my fiancé and me perfectly. While also being the image I dreamt of while imaging our big day. I could see myself covered in lace, candles everywhere, and being surrounded by ivory flowers with greenery complementing everything perfectly. Joshua and I spent the first two or three weeks of our engagement searching for a venue to match our personalities and my dream. On our third visit, The Arbors, we drove down a gravel road with trees lining both sides and a beautiful blue sky above. I instantly knew this was the spot. Just as an overwhelming feeling came over me when I knew Joshua was the one. There was no doubt in mind this was the place where we’d become one. This special place is a tree farm in Cleveland, NC about an hour from our new home. Upon driving into The Arbors you are surrounded by beautiful trees of all kinds. They have two sites on property to choose from. Both a beautiful mix of stone and wood. Creating a rustic mountain feel. Now all we needed to do was add some romantic touches.

Moving towards our wedding, Joshua and I really dove into planning. We wanted our day to truly reflect our personalities, our love for God and our love for one another. Going with our rustic romance theme we set the tone with green, ivory, and gold accents. Which also happen to be the colors of our alma matter, where we first met. We incorporated a lot of wood accents to touch on the rustic part of our theme. All of our signs were custom made by one of my very talented bridesmaids.
Planning our wedding was incredibly special to both Joshua and I. I really enjoyed finding items and different ways to showcase our personalities and relationship.

Some of my favorite items included the custom signs made by sweet friend, the photo(s) of Joshua and I that flanked the greenery-filled fireplace, and our wedding day looks. My dress was everything I had ever dreamt of and so much more. I worked with Modern Trousseau’s to custom make my dream. I knew from the beginning I wanted lace and I wanted sleeves. When visiting Hayden Olivia in Charlotte there were not a ton of options that included this. Lucky for me, my bridal consultant suggested a bolero. I instantly fell in love with the first dress I tried on but it did not include the sleeves I had dreamt of. Once that bolero was placed over top though, I knew it was it. Tears filled me eyes and I imagined Joshua seeing me wearing this masterpiece as I walked down to meet him. Joshua’s look was one we had fun deciding. We wanted it to reflect his fun personality while also matching perfectly with my classic romantic dress. We choose a simple gray suit and played around with the bowtie and shirt. Plaid for the shirt and a custom-made stripe bow-tie from The Knotty.

The weekend before our wedding North Carolina was hit with a very strong hurricane. With day upon day of rain. Once the hurricane passed we were left with gorgeous weather. All blue skies and a perfect 75 degrees. We were blessed! This weather was the exact reason we choose October. Also because that is when we started dating and became engaged. The bridesmaids and I started getting ready very early at a lake house rented by my mother. Getting your hair done while watching the sun come up over a lake is quite the way to start your wedding day! I believe this played a big part in keeping me calm.

I surprised my bridesmaids with pajama sets from Piyama. The pattern complemented our colors and looked adorable while getting ready together. The bridesmaids had the option of two dresses from ASOS in the same pattern. One a maxi dress with ruffles and the other a simple empire midi. I couldn’t have imagined the dresses fitting our venue better!

Once each gal had their hair and make-up complete we made our way to the venue. We then spent the next hour opening gifts, chatting, and sipping mimosas. My photographer then came in and said it was time to put my dress on. I truly did not feel like a bride until that moment. Once my maid of honor placed my veil and flower crown on it was time for the gals to leave. So there I was standing in front of the floor length mirror, looking at myself. At this moment I was overcome with emotion. Imagining Joshua seeing me and knowing I would be walking down to him in just minutes. That this is what I would look like as I made the promise to love him forever and stand by his side through everything. I wanted down that aisle!

I could see Joshua well before he could see me. I had butterflies in my stomach and my heart was beating faster than ever. I soaked in my soon to be husband standing there, waiting to turn around (once) he received the signal to. All I could think about was looking into his eyes and seeing him see me. I may have pulled my dad down the aisle trying to get to Joshua! Our ceremony was full of special moments including our favorite worship songs, a moment where Joshua and I stepped off to the side to pray together, and reciting our personal vows.

Once our ceremony was complete our guests were treated to a cocktail hour on the market lit patio of our reception venue. We served a variety of appetizers that were personal favorites of ours while a bluegrass band filled the air with sweet southern music. Additionally, we had a lawn game area with dice and bocce ball from Mark & Graham plus a custom cornhole set. We wanted cocktail hour to be a time to mix and mingle while enjoying the beautiful fall weather.

From cocktail hour to the reception. Our reception was filled with dahlias, anemones, garden roses, eucalyptus, and endless candles. We had a wooden guest “book” for guests to sign as they entered into the ceremony. Past the guest book was our cake table which was flanked with two cakes. Joshua wanted a traditional tiered cake covered in icing while I wanted a naked cake, we compromised and had both! Our cakes and the table may have been one of my favorites at the reception! Brandi from Honey Butter Bakery did amazing! Joshua and I had a sweetheart table set right in front of the candle filled fireplace. Sitting there allowed us time together and time to soak in everything going on around us. The evening was filled with all of the traditional wedding activities and lots of dancing! Joshua and I exited the wedding with friends and family flanking both sides of the sidewalk as we made our way to our limo. Having the opportunity to hug our loved ones as we left was one of my favorite moments of the evening. Our wedding was filled with so much love and I know our marriage will be the same!

Proof a Garden Party Wedding Doesn’t Have to Be Outdoors

Leave it to Erin McLean Events to plan and design a garden party-style wedding…and to do it all in just 8 weeks. With the use of cascading greenery and metallic accents, she transformed a classic ballroom into a reception any guest would die to attend. Laura Gordon photographed and you can dive right into the gallery this way.

From Erin McLean EventsCelia had her heart set on an outdoor wedding, but planning for an August wedding day made that dream seem a little out of reach. Not only that, but because of Adrian’s medical school schedule, we needed to plan this wedding in a little less than 8 weeks! Never fear, why don’t we create an enchanted garden party in the iconic Hill Ballroom at Carolina Inn? Celia and Adrian were sold, so after being married in the newly reopened Duke Chapel in all its restored glory, they would dance the night away among flowing florals, glowing tablescapes, and the incomparable sounds of The Sleeping Booty Band.

Introducing blush tones ranging from the palest pink to soft ivories, paired with cascading greenery and metallic accents, the ballroom transformed into a lovely look never before created. With the addition of boxwood bars, barely golden chiffon runners, and a cake oozing with lush blooms, Celia and Adrian’s vision for an outdoor wedding day came alive indoors.

We brought in a crisp white dance floor and staging to bring the look together and of course provide ample room for celebration once Sleeping Booty Band kicked off the night!

When in doubt, go simple. Remove all the excess, it’s not even needed. Get back to the bare, beautiful bones. Need some visual inspiration? Look no further than this simple – yet still uber stylish – shoot by Nancy Ray at the Barn at Reynolda Village. Created by Rebecca Rose Events, it’s pure pretty and we can’t get enough – see more in our Vault gallery right this way!

From Rebecca Rose EventsThis fall, a brand new venue space opened in historic Reynolda Village in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Barn at Reynolda Village originally served as a cow barn for the Reynolds family estate, and has recently undergone a renovation and restoration. Now the building boasts a crisp, white, airy space… a true blank canvas for weddings. The nearby grounds of Reynolda Gardens are so beautiful that we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to partner with Nancy Ray Photography to design and capture some ideas on film. This shoot is all about the beauty of natural textures, the possibilities of a limited color palette, and the sweet joy of simplicity.

When You Marry in a Train Depot and It’s Totally Chic

Luke and Sara currently call D.C. home, but when they began planning their wedding there was no question they’d return to their Southern roots. They decided on a fall affair in downtown Durham’s historic freight train depot and threw the party of a lifetime – live bluegrass and local craft beer included. Tre Bella Florist translated Sara’s “fairy meets lumberjack” vision and Graham Terhune didn’t miss a beat behind the camera. More this way!

From the bride… Shortly after getting engaged, Luke & I started talking about how we wanted our wedding day to look and feel. We quickly settled on a few important things – we wanted good drinks, great music, and the wedding to take place in the fall in North Carolina. We currently live in DC, but knew there was no place we’d rather say “I do” than our home state. North Carolina holds such a special place in our hearts and we were incredibly lucky to find vendors we felt represented all the things we love about home.

The ceremony and reception both took place on the platform of Belt Line Station, an old freight train depot and historic site in downtown Durham. The ceremony was officiated by a close friend of ours. To share our love of bluegrass music, we hired a spunky, local band to play while guests arrived and during the cocktail hour. We stocked the bar with our favorite craft beers and the chef was able to use local ingredients she bought at the Durham farmers market in the menu.

I jokingly coined our vision as “fairy meets lumberjack” and, despite the silly description, our vendors were able to pull it off! We wanted the flowers to be a bit messy and wild to complement to the rustic yet urban setting of the venue, and full of reds, oranges and blues to celebrate the fall season. We incorporated organic elements, like copper, wood and glass accents, into the decorations and table settings. Our venue coordinator even picked fresh rosemary to top the place settings.

Putting the wedding together was truly a family affair! My father made all the wooden signs for the event (which Luke & I then painted ourselves) and we turned Luke’s parents’ house into ‘wedding crafts central’ during the weeks leading up to the big day. Luke’s sister even baked hundreds of spicy cheese straws – a southern staple and family favorite – for the welcome bags. Instead of cake, we opted for pumpkin, apple and buttermilk pies made by a family friend. In addition to the stellar bluegrass band, Luke put together an iPod playlist that kicked things off with our first dance (If Not for You, by Bob Dylan), followed by an awesome reception mix that got everyone out, and kept them, on the dance floor.

We knew we wanted the day to be filled with things that spoke to our personalities and our history as a couple, but more than anything, to be surrounded by the people we love. Our wedding was a perfect, intimate gathering of family and friends who have loved and supported us unconditionally for the 7 years we have been together, and we couldn’t be more thankful to have spent that special time with them.

Merry Christmas from Style Me Pretty!

As Perry Vaile, the photographer behind this inspiration shoot said, “No matter how it’s celebrated, Christmastime is a reminder to slow down, be grateful, and cling tightly to the ones you love most in this special season.” And quite frankly, we couldn’t agree more. Along with the design + stylings of Emily Claire Events, she captured the sentiment of a Christmas getaway, and there’s more to see right here. From all of us at Style Me Pretty, wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday!

From Perry VaileWhile some celebrate with large gatherings or boisterous parties, there’s another equally special alternative – the Christmas Getaway. Whether it’s a quiet respite from a busy year, or a way to reconnect with someone special, taking the holidays as a private experience can turn a typical holiday into one for the record books.

Pack light, bring your winter clothes, and plan for a weekend snuggled up watching Christmas movies in bed with hot cocoa, going on the hunt for the perfect tree, and then warming up with a fresh pot pie straight out of the oven.

Make an evening out of decorating the tree, and stay up late as the candles melt down, reminiscing about the beauty and challenges that 2016 brought. No matter how it’s celebrated, Christmastime is a reminder to slow down, be grateful, and cling tightly to the ones you love most in this special season.

Red, Blue + Blush Southern Mountain Wedding

Tucked away in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains is Castle Ladyhawke, a little taste of Europe brought to the South. It served as the perfect setting for Hillary and Matt’s special day and you can see it through Cody Hunter’s lens in The Vault.

From the Bride…The mountains have always been special to our relationship. That’s where Matt proposed and where we had a special moment talking about our hopes and dreams. At first we wanted to elope, but as time went on we wanted to have our immediate family and a few close friends. We wanting something intimate, private, secluded, and beautiful. What could be more perfect than a castle huddled in by a beautiful mountain range? Most importantly, we planned the day to spend our wedding together and inseparable because we’re so madly in love!

30 Bridesmaids + Groomsmen for a Brunch Style Wedding!

If you love waffles for dinner – and let’s be honest, who doesn’t? – then a wedding like Abigail and Samuel’s might be perfect for you. They incorporated all their favorite breakfast foods for a menu that was anything but boring. Oh, and they did it with a bridal party of 30 by their side. This gallery by Jake + Heather and film below by Berean Productions are not to be missed.

From Jake + HeatherWe don’t even know where to start with how amazing Abigail and Samuel’s wedding was. Even with their gorgeous outdoor ceremony of 300 guests, bridal party of 30 and spacious, wide open historic reception structure, their day felt so incredibly intimate and family oriented.

Abigail is a joyful soul that has never met a stranger and Samuel is intentional and kind with a gracious presence. These two compliment each other perfectly and they could not have been more excited to marry each other.

Their special day held lots of meaningful details, an emotional first look, a tear-jerking ceremony – don’t forget the donut bar, old fashioned coke bottles, and last but not least, waffles for dinner.

It was certainly one for the books and we were beyond honored to capture these photographs for them!
