This is What a West Elm Stylist’s Wedding Looks Like.

When you work as a stylist for West Elm, it’s pretty much a given that your wedding is going to be absolute, pure gorgeousness. Hello, tablescape of my dreams! This beauty Bride put her creative brains behind all the lovely, with the help of Petal & Oak, who layered in those out-of-this-world blooms. A. J. Dunlap Photography worked their magic behind the lens for a gallery chock-full of inspiration.

From A. J. Dunlap PhotographyThis bride works as a stylist for West Elm, and used her design knowledge to create the most breathtaking wedding reception. She combined simple greenery with hues of pink, whites and gold to create luscious tablescapes that were beyond gorgeous. Her hanging greenery above her “T” style head table was breathtaking. Aside from the beautiful reception decor, we fell in love with her all lace, deep v wedding gown and solid greenery bouquet. Set against the rustic background of her venue and it was a perfect wedding.

A Bridal Luncheon to Inspire All Your Summer Soirées

Since Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer, what better way to kick off the season of outdoor events than with a pretty, al fresco bridal luncheon? Inspired by the feminine blue and white china she observed at a coffee shop, Drewe Smith, Editor-in-Chief of Focus on the Coast Weddings, worked together with Salt Harbor Designs and Theo Milo Photography to create a beautiful feminine fête at Airlie Gardens. Between the flowing gowns, summery menu, abundant florals, and romantic blue tablescape, this gallery will surely inspire all your summer soirées.

From Drewe Smith… When I traveled to Chicago last spring for a girls’ getaway, I had just started planning the newest issue of Focus on the Coast Weddings. When I walked into The Allis one morning, I was more in search of an iced coffee than editorial inspiration. Little did I know, I would find both. One of the first things that caught my eye was the blue and white floral china my breakfast was served on; decidedly French and feminine, I knew I had to have it. Within a month, my new dishes had arrived, and with them, the beginnings of the photoshoot you see here.

I knew I wanted to feature a bridal luncheon in our newest issue, so as soon as I set foot back in Wilmington, NC, I contacted Theo Milo of Theo Milo Photography and Jennifer Rose of Salt Harbor Designs. We sat down together and envisioned a soft palette of blues and simple, classic details with a touch of romance. Airlie Gardens pergola was the perfect place to shoot, embodying the rustic formality of gardens in the French countryside, complete with a bubbling fountain (which Southern Bee Designs incorporated into the invitations).

The bridesmaids were dressed in flowing gowns of complementary shades from Tusc Boutique. The bride-to-be, outfitted in our signature blue, wore a delicate wrap dress that highlighted the refined jewels provided by Melissa Tyson Designs. Classic wedge shoes from Soul Shoetique completed the outfits. I wanted the theme of understated sophistication to be consistent, so we kept the bridal parties hair and makeup subtle. Beauty Bar Boutique did a fantastic job of channeling the effortless, French cool-girl look by using muted pink tones and giving our bride-to-be a messy chignon.

Choosing the food wasn’t a difficult task. What could be more French than baguettes, oysters, and macarons? Pinpoint Restaurant, one of our personal local favorites, crafted elevated dishes with floral embellishments on sterling silver serving platters and simple wooden cutting boards. Salt Harbor Designs brought the table to life with their arrangement of ranunculus, garden roses, delphinium, parrot tulips, lilac, and privet berry, channeling the color palette of the afternoon.

With the table all set and the glow of flickering candles illuminating the setting, the bridesmaids sat down to celebrate the bride-to-be and their longtime friendship, surrounded by the simple, beautiful things in life. Staying true to our classic theme, Theo Milo used film to capture the essence of the day. C’était magnifique!

Palm Fronds for the Win at This Wilmington Wedding

This palm inspired Wilmington wedding at Bakery 105 just made my day. The pop of green on the pretty stationery, the velvet ring box, and the bridesmaids’ palm frond bouquets give a modern, summery vibe that’s hitting all the right notes in my book. And those getting ready robes! Seriously chic. Olivia Suriano of Nancy Ray Photography captured it all brilliantly – despite the rain! – so dig into the gallery right here.

From Olivia Suriano of Nancy Ray PhotographyWhen Laura and Eric’s wedding day called for rain, I was not one bit worried. With Eric’s easy going personality and Laura’s exquisite taste and talent for interior design, I knew these two would take the rain and make something incredible out of it!

Their combination or personalities went together seamlessly at their wedding. Eric looked extra dapper in his white dinner jacket, and Laura stole the show in her Sarah Seven gown. Even with all of the beautiful details, these two were so smitten with each other you couldn’t help but just stare at them the whole day. From the beginning of the wedding planning to their big day, Laura and Eric made each of their vendors feel like close friends, and it was such an honor to capture their day!

A Wedding Celebrating All the Good Stuff… Food, Family and Fall

When this couple approached Salt Harbor Designs to plan their big day at The Atrium in Wilmington, they shared their priorities were to embrace “food, family, and fall” – and that’s exactly what they achieved! They served a delicious, family style dinner and tons of desserts (including both cake and pie!) at long, communal tables featuring floral arrangements in classic, autumnal hues. Theo Milo Photography tells the story of the day from behind his lens, and we have it all for you in the Vault.

From Salt Harbor DesignsWhen Bret and Brooke decided to plan their wedding in Wilmington, they wanted an event that embraced food, family, and fall. They were married and celebrated afterwards at The Atrium in downtown Wilmington. Brooke is part of a traditional Italian family, so the couple decided to serve their guests a huge family-style dinner and more dessert pies than their guests could ever eat. Guests dined at two long, communal tables that were filled with candles and vases of orange and burgundy flowers. After dinner, the family danced and sang the night away, ending the evening with late night hot dogs before parading to their after-party a few blocks away. Brooke is a well-know patron of misfit animals, volunteering at shelters and serving as a foster parent for many abandoned pups. Rather than favors, the couple gave a donation to their local animal shelter.

Intimate Fall Wedding with a Family-Style Dinner

Fall brides, take note because this wedding is one day that’s guaranteed to inspire. With a decidedly autumn color palette and a picturesque natural setting, the bride and groom were able to wed in style with the amazing Rebecca Rose Events by their side. Ally and Bobby photographed the entire day, and these pretty captures are only the beginning. More this way!

From Rebecca Rose Event… Though they now live in Los Angeles, the bride and groom selected their venue, The Southeastern Center, for Contemporary Art, not only for it’s significance to them (the bride is an artist herself and used to teach at SECCA!), but also for the opportunity to exchange vows in front of the beautiful sprawling kudzu that they love! She grew up in Winston-Salem, NC so returning to the Southeast during the beauty of the fall season was a no-brainer.

The bride’s maternal family is from Colombia and the couple thoughtfully incorporated some beautiful touches of cultural tradition to their celebration. Guests dined on a family-style menu designed to feature tapas and paella that was served with wine and then danced into the wee hours to a variety of musical genres, including lots of salsa!

A Gatsby Inspired Wedding in the Mountains of North Carolina

What happens when you bring Gatsby grandeur to the mountains of North Carolina? An unforgettable wedding! Asheville Event Co. drew inspiration from the bride’s favorite movie, incorporating quotes and music from the F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece throughout the big day. With the help of Floressence Flowers and La Tavola Linens, they created an enchanting space – lucky for us, Parker J Pfister Photography captured the eclectic, glamorous event. See it all in the Vault, then get swept away in the film by Caravan Cinematography.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/187371907 600 338]

From the Bride… Prior to planning our wedding, we envisioned a small private wedding in an outdoor setting during the summer. Since our happiest times have been spent in the mountains, we made it our mission to find the perfect mountain setting to exchange vows. After visiting multiple destinations in Vermont (Dave’s home state), Colorado, and California, we knew the search had ended when we arrived at Old Edwards Inn (OEI) in North Carolina. We both had never been in that area before, but it offered a central destination for extended family. Sitting atop a scenic, southwest plateau in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains with OEI’s 5-star resort services made it the perfect setting for our event.

“The Great Gatsby” influenced us, as it is one of my favorite movies, so we incorporated romantic and whimsical F. Scott Fitzgerald quotes into our invitations, cocktail napkins, ceremony, and seating placement signs and chose an overall theme of eclectic glamour. Our first dance was to Lana Del Ray’s, “Young and Beautiful.” As guests entered the ceremony, we served champagne in coupe glasses with a dusted sugar rim. It was important to us that we had a really fun party – luxurious, like Gatsby’s parties were. We even included modern songs from the movie’s soundtrack played by our fifteen piece live band. Guests were also greeted by a sign with a dramatic floral arrangement with a Gatsby quote: “And so with the sunshine and great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow fast in the movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with summer.”

We had a few favorite moments throughout the day. Of course, our absolute favorite was the exchange of the vows. My cousin married us – he is known as being hilarious, and he did not disappoint. We were also extremely fortunate to have great speeches at the beginning of the reception by the best man, maid of honor, and mother of the bride. Our family really put a lot of thought into what they said, and those words made all the difference. My other favorite moment was our first dance! After months of practice, the crowd went wild when Dave spun me into his arms and into the air for the grand finale.

Dave and I chose to have a dessert bar opposed to a single large cake. I tend to have a sweet tooth, so I wanted a variety of items available for guests to choose from. Once the dance party started, we distributed aviator sunglasses, glow sticks, and jello shots to get the party really going. We finished with a sparkler exit. The pièce de résistance of the entire event was having all the people we love in one room at the same time.

For all brides-to-be out there, don’t forget to take a time (off to the side) for you and your new husband to look around and savor the moment. Try to be present and share in the love and party that’s happening around you. Also, do your vendor homework. Unexpected things can happen the day of the event, and it’s important to have professional people around you to deal with these items – huge kudos to my great team!

Carolina Cuties Engagement Session

These college sweethearts could not stop giggling during this adorable e-session by Caroline Lima Photography, and their joy is contagious! We can’t help but fall in love with their twinkling expressions and their cute pup. View the whole gallery here – we dare you not to smile.

From Caroline Lima PhotographyBrooke and Brad were so warm and relaxed during their engagement session – an absolute pleasure to photograph! I got to watch them share so many beautiful moments. Several times they started giggling just looking at each other, which was really fun and wonderful to see! Brooke and Brad met through mutual friends at the end of their freshman year at the University of South Carolina. Halfway through sophomore year, they were a bundle!

The story of Brad’s proposal is too sweet not to share! The two were strolling through the USC campus on their way to a baseball game, when Brooke got a call from one of the friends they were going to meet. It was just a heads-up – some construction on campus meant they would have to detour through the historic horseshoe. But halfway across the horseshoe, Brad got down on one knee and asked Brooke to marry him! When she looked up, Brooke saw friends and family appearing all around the horseshoe, including her pup, Maverick, who was supposed to be at home in Charlotte! Such an incredibly sweet surprise!

Our session took place at Carrigan Farms in Moorseville, North Carolina. If you’re not familiar with this property, go visit! The grounds are absolutely breathtaking, with so many different settings for photos. Brooke’s stunning red dress was an elegant pop of color against the gorgeous scenery. And need I say I fell in love with Maverick? Adorable! Golden Retrievers are the best. Although I have to admit I’m biased, because my fur-baby, Ronon, is a Golden too.

A Tender Moment at This Vineyard Wedding

Get ready for your heart to melt, because this intimate wedding at The Vineyard at 37 High Holly is too endearing for words. TRK Photography caught the bride and groom in a tender, pre-ceremony foot washing – what a display of love and service! Scroll on to see all the sweet moments.

Whimsical

From TRK PhotographyAshley and Peter had decided that The Vineyard at 37 High Holly was where they wanted to be married, surrounded by friends and family. After several trips visiting relatives, they both agreed the backdrop of the vineyard wrapped in wild flowers would totally set the precedence for their wedding day. Also, the vineyard had accommodations for 28 of their friends and family.

The hand designed floral invitations set the stage for what was to come. Since Ashley and Peter had chosen a floral theme, Peter had found unique ties to snazzy up his gentleman. The bride and her ‘maids all wore delicate floral arm bands – a new alternative to a bouquet. Prior to the ceremony, Ashley and Peter wanted to create a moment just for themselves. The washing of the feet ceremony was one of the most warm and raw moments that we’ve ever witnessed. Our beautiful bride had another surprise for us as she changed out of her simple beaded gown into a two-piece, tulle blush skirt and crop top. Her wardrobe had her groom grinning from ear to ear.

The ceremony was beautiful with vines laced with rows of red and green. The vines were full and ready to harvest. This small vineyard only produces roughly 500 cases of wine a year to keep its special and intimate feel. The guests were then guided to a large pavilion were Ashley and Peter danced the night away. The reception was inspired by the beauty this venue had provided. Wild flowers and the purity of the crops added a fun look to the bride and groom’s table, along with antique floral plates.

This Military Wedding Nails the “Classic” Look

If you want to see “classic” done right, this Biltmore Estate affair is just the ticket. Captured by Elizabeth Fogarty, there’s an effortlessness to every detail, blending the couple’s rustic and elegant style preferences in one seamless move. But don’t just take my word for it, head to the gallery and watch Hannah and David’s big day unfold for yourself.

From the Bride… We met on the Pacific Partnership in May of 2013 on the USS Pearl Harbor (Dave’s amphibious ship at the time – he was the chief engineer)!

Our wedding color palette was creme, sand, champagne, and gold. The hardest thing was bringing our worlds together. An element of our big day was tying in Dave’s rustic side and my elegant and airy aesthetic.

5 Ways to Involve Pets in Your Wedding

Hands down, there’s nothing better than a sweet fur baby making an appearance on your Big Day. So if your best friend happens to be an adorable pooch (or cat, or bird, or pig…), we’re teaming up with The Westin Birmingham to run down a list of 5 ways to include your loves in the most important celebration of your life. Prepare for a cuteness overload below.

ONE: AS THE CUTEST BEST MAN OR MAID OF HONOR EVER

There’s nothing cuter than a pet in a bow tie or floral crown, so when it comes to stealing the show (they will), let your sweetie shine as your Best Man or Maid of Honor. You’ll love it, your guests will love it and it will most definitely go down in history as one of your fave wedding moments.

Photography: Jose Villa

TWO: AS THE PERFECT FAVORS

Love your furry friend more than anything? Then be sure to pay tribute to them in every possible way. One of our faves? A cute little favor that also happens to be in the shape of their likeness. It’s taking “puppy treats” to an entirely new level and your guests will appreciate the ode to your sweet little pooch.

Photography: Ruth Eileen Photography

Bells + Bright Colors for this Sweet Summer Wedding

With ringing bells and warm colors, these two became husband and wife and we have the perfect pics by Callie Davis of Nancy Ray Photography and the film by Life Stage Films to prove it. The Fearrington House played host (and event planner and floral designer) for this sweet Southern wedding and we can’t get enough. But no need to fret, there’s plenty of pretty to go around in our Vault right this way!

From The Fearrington HouseEllie and Nick were married August 6th, 2016 at Fearrington Village. On a gorgeous summer day, these two tied the knot under the Pecan Trees with a beautiful ceremony, and danced the night away in The Fearrington Barn. The couple incorporated details of their venue with custom invitations featuring drawings of Fearrington’s “Beltie” cows and The Barn. Family and friends celebrated the newlyweds with dinner, dancing and an incredible sparkler send-off.

From their vows, “I vow to live with transparency, sharing my greatest joys and my deepest sorrows with you as well as everything in between, even when it feels messy and out of control.” Congratulations to this wonderful couple!

From a Beach Proposal to a Bohemian Garden Seaside Wedding

It’s weddings like this that make me LOVE logging onto Style Me Pretty every. single. day. Totally unfussy, graced with a backdrop you can’t beat and effortlessly pretty in so many ways. Initially inspired by the Bride’s vision of pops of watercolor with gold mixed in and her ‘gold-dipped’ style dress, the images from Love by Serena radiate happiness in the form of color, warm ocean breezes and of course, the sweet chemistry between these two.

From the Bride & Groom, Jamie & Steve… The Proposal: We got engaged in Saint Maarten March of 2014! It was a vacation we were looking forward to after a snowy winter. We took a drive to the French side and watched the sunset from a local bar. The seats sat on a small pier, so you could feel the waves crashing under you. I walked up to the counter and when I turned around to come back, Steve was kneeling by the shore on one knee. He was so nervous he broke the ring box! It was very sweet and perfect for me because my heart has always been at the ocean. Everyone cheered and toasted, it was a perfect night!

About our wedding: We felt really lucky to be getting married so close to my home town! The Celebration Cottage used to be a pier, where my family went almost every weekend growing up. We wanted a space that felt cozy, open, warm and inviting. We also wanted all of our family/bridal party to be together. We rented a beach house next door to the venue and stayed the week before. Our bridal party also stayed there, so we could have some time to be together before the wedding. It was really important to us to have everyone close, not at separate hotels!

For the wedding, we wanted to keep it simple-the ocean as your background is pretty incredible. In my head I was dreaming of pops of watercolor with gold mixed in. I was an art major and have always been drawn to bright mix and match colors and whimsical details. My dress is from a local designer in Canada and it was the initial inspiration (GOLD)! I told Valerie all of this and didn’t ask for any specific flower. Her outcome was beautiful and captured what was in my mind perfectly!

From Valerie (Bridesmaid, Wife of Jamie’s brother, and Lead Florist at Blossom Bay Botanicals)… Jamie and Steve’s wedding took place in Atlantic beach NC at a brand new space called The Celebration Cottage. The Celebration Cottage is a huge, beautiful beach house built just to serve as a wedding and event venue.

Jamie and Steve were engaged March of 2014, in Saint Marteen and were the first couple to book the Cottage as it was still, as the bride puts is “a pile of wood!” Luckily this couple is the laid back creative type, so the enormity of the construction project did not intimate them. They had no doubt that the space would be finished and better than they could have ever imagined!
Jamie and Steve chose a palette with shades of nude and muted pastels, with splashes of gold. These colors are so reflective of this couple’s personality – very down to earth, but filled with spark and surprise!

They met the first day Jamie moved to Baltimore from North Carolina. On this life-altering first day in the big City, Jamie got a flat tire in the McHenry Tunnel! I think it is safe to say that this is any young woman’s nightmare, much less on such a pivotal moving day. She thought maybe that was a sign to turn around go back home, but it’s a good thing she didn’t! Five hours later, in the midst of a torrential downpour, and after being subjected to the anxiety of holding up inner city traffic for hours, Jamie’s best friend Perry managed to get her out of the traumatizing tunnel experience. Perry did what any best friend would do next – take Jamie out for drinks! It was there that Steve sat next to the beautiful wet rat that would soon be his future wife. It’s funny how one ordinary day can unfold into a complicated challenge that may change the rest of your life.

This day could not have been more beautiful. Even with rain off and on all day Mandy’s sweet nature and gorgeous smile brightened the whole day and made for the perfect classically southern soiree! Tara from posh petals and pearls took Mandy’s bridesmaid dress color and want for a coastal theme and totally transformed that ballroom at the The Crystal Coast Club. These two have been together for over 10 years and had been through so much with a long distance relationship for a huge portion of that. It was amazing to see everyone come together and celebrate this couple that they had watched grow so much together over a 10 year time. One of my favorite details of the day was the book that Andrew gave to Mandy the day of their wedding. He had bought it on the day he proposed and started writing in it every single day from that point on. About their life and how excited he was for their wedding and to marry her. What an incredible gift. All I could think was how amazing it would be to share with their children one day.

It may be Snowing but this Winter Engagement is Hot, Hot, Hot

Backless gowns are best kept for indoor attire but with this gorgeous engagement, the Bride-to-be had her love to keep her warm. And it’s all set against a magical winter wonderland captured by Forage + Film. Get inspired to dress to the nines and romp in the snow with even more gorgeous imagery right here in the vault.

We loved shooting this winter wonderland session with this sweet couple! The soft falling snowflakes, and the beautiful white historic estate made for such dreamy setting. Paired with this couples fabulous style, serious guts ( hello backless dress in freezing temperatures!) and tangible love, we walked away knowing it was a special day. This was the kind of session that can’t ever be recreated and is just as unique and special as this couple is, and that is the kind of experience we live for! We loved that this couple got to cuddle into each other for warmth as the snow rested on their hair and laugh with each other in these extraordinary circumstances! While we sometimes wish it snowed more often here in Raleigh, its rarity truly does make it that much more special when it does!

Inspired by the Most Stunning Lace Dress

For this Winter inspiration, it all started with a dress. Backless, lace and insanely beautiful to be exact from Erin Grey Couture. From there, HART & CO. Events crafted a shoot layered in texture and bursting with lush blooms by Springvine Design. If you like lace or velvet or florals literally hanging from the heavens, then pop on over the the vault captured by Almond Leaf Studios for so much more.

From the planner… When Charlotte based bridal boutique owner and couture gown maker CJ Bostrom reached out to me about creating a wintery, romantic shoot in the Asheville mountains, I knew right away this was going to be something special! CJ created an amazing lace gown for her Erin Grey Couture line that is simply stunning and served as inspiration as I pulled together the rest of the design elements.

With hints of silver and gold woven in the gown, I incorporated a mix of the two metals throughout the table design. A gorgeous velvet linen from La Tavola created the perfect base, and allowed for those hints of silver and gold to stand out. I tried to keep everything else about the table simple yet classic and nothing that would take away from Springvine Design’s amazing hanging greenery and floral garland.

Springvine created a beautiful bouquet and we were lucky to have some Renee Pawlee jewelry plus beautiful rings from Trumpet & Horn to complete the bride’s look. For our groom, we decked him out in a classic black tux with a velvet bowtie from Men’s Wearhouse. The two are quite a dapper pair!

Engaged Asheville’s studio space gave us the perfect overall backdrop for our shoot. The clean white space and windows that let tons of natural light flow in was incredible.

Bohemian Ink created a beautiful invitation suite that was both romantic and whimsical. Jess is an incredibly talented artist in Charlotte and each piece she makes is really a work of art!

I always try to keep a look consistent and Wow Factor Cakes did just that by carrying the mix silver and gold into their cake design. The curves of the top tier were inspired by the gold curves of the chargers on the table. And they even brought in a lace pattern on the bottom layer of the cake that was similar to the pattern on the salad plates.
