Sweet Downtown Raleigh Engagement

The very second I got wind my dear friends Anna and Ben had chosen Nancy Ray for their Raleigh engagement session, I knew something sweet was right around the corner. She captures raw, honest-to-goodness love in a way only few can, and today we’ve got the photos to prove it. From hand-in-hand strolling to coffee shop cozying, these two couldn’t be cuter if they tried. Congrats, lovers!

From Nancy Ray… I just couldn’t stop smiling after I spent the morning with Anna and Ben. They are joyful people who love one another deeply. One of my very favorite things about Anna and Ben is how I can see that they are really good friends – they laugh together, they genuinely care for one another, they aren’t afraid to show affection or even poke fun at one another. Most of all, they are kind with their words and actions. And their style? I can’t stand how adorable they are together! His glasses + her high waisted shorts were just too adorable.

From Anna… Let me start off by saying that if anyone is looking for a photographer in the Raleigh, North Carolina area, look no further than Nancy Ray Photography. From the moment Ben and I saw her work we were captured by the beauty and character in her photographs. When we finally met her, all over again, we fell in love with her sweet personality and the genuine joy she finds in working with couple like us, who are sharing one of our most intimate, personal moments of our life with her. Nancy Ray is great. I will continue to sing her praises to anyone who asks.

When Ben and I arrived at Joule (a wonderful coffee shop in Downtown Raleigh. Delicious southern cooking, Counter Culture coffee, the whole shebang) we were a bit disheveled. Ben had just stepped off the plane from a 6 AM flight from Boston and wasn’t quite prepared for his close up, as Marilyn would say. It was also about 45 degrees outside (maybe it’s an exaggeration, but it felt that cold) and I had felt this intense commitment to my high-waisted shorts that could not be sacrificed. My own mother convinced had to convince me to grab my coat on the way out the door (“just because you live in the

Northeast doesn’t mean Southern 50 degree isn’t cold!”). I’m giving you a little background to set up the story, because this shoot, like most things with Ben and I, was a little chaotic heading into but turned out to be a wonderful moment for the two of us, and we have the pictures to prove it!

Ben and I met in Boston, MA shortly after I had moved there in 2011. After being friends, confidents, partners for two years, we started dating in the fall of 2012. During the past two years we’ve run the whole gamut, we’ve been crazy in love, we’ve taken breaks. We’ve have beautiful summer days and moments interrupted by bombs on Boylston St. Lots of couples probably would have given up, but Ben fought for me, he fought for us, and for that I am eternally grateful.

The night we got engaged is the best story I have to capture our relationship. The short version starts with us petting reindeer at a Christmas tree farm on the North Shore, driving two hours to a deserted “beach” (read: immense abyss of darkness) to catch the sunset (which by 4:00 PM we’d missed since this was Massachusetts in December). After absolutely refusing to get out of the car we made our way to dinner at the Land Ho! Restaurant which was so full of crotchety old lobstermen we felt like everyone was staring at us the throughout our dinner. By this time Ben was out of sorts. He was sweaty and refused to talk to me because he was so upset. Obviously, his actions lead to a huge fight between us and we ended up not talking to each other the whole drive home.

It was 1 AM when we made it back to Boston. At this point we were both exhausted, I was exhausted from asking what was up with Ben, and he was tired from me pestering him. He made an unexpected detour to South Boston’s Fort Point Channel. Asking me to get out of the car and go for a walk I wasn’t completely sure if he was going to leave me there to find my own way home or if he was going to propose. The night was enchanting; all there was to see was water, brick and the steel of the skyline that form the city we both love so much. When you are standing by the water you feel a connection with history, with the forefathers of the revolution who stood in the same spot 200 some years ago. This was the spot where Ben and I had one of our first dates, and this was the spot he had chosen to ask me to marry him, some 200 dates later. I turned around from looking at the skyline and he was down on one knee saying all of these sweet words that I can’t remember and yet at the same time remember so vividly.

In that moment I know I had a choice to make. It was active decision of choosing this man for all of his faults and all of the wonderful things about him. I could have said no, but the prospect of doing life without him seemed burdensome. He was the one I wanted beside me, and I was certain of it. I said yes that night and in two short weeks we are going to be married. I am incredibly thankful for our relationship and the short time I’ve had here to tell our story!

From Casey Hendrickson Photography… On March 9th 2014, we gathered at the gorgeous new venue of the Separk Mansion. This session was styled using coral, peach, pink, and cream with touches of gold to create both a romantic and elegant theme. We used watercolor as inspiration for the stationary, cake, and sweets. With its timeless elegance and architecture, the Separk Mansion was the perfect venue for our session. Our blushing bride was dressed in both a stunning beaded Gianna by Maggie Sottero and the glamorous Brandy by Maggie Sottero while the handsome groom was dressed in a classic Allure tuxedo. Not only did we have a hand painted watercolor cake with a pearl finish and hand-rolled flowers with jeweled centers, there were also meringue kisses hand painted with edible watercolors as well as shortbread cookies painted gold with a watercolor finish on top. The exquisite floral arrangements completed the look along with the gorgeous table chandeliers, candles, and beaded gems.

Traditional Country Club Wedding

From start to finish, this is a wedding that is all about the love.  The kind of love that exists between a darling duo who happened to meet and fall in love five years ago, after growing up thousands of miles apart.  One thing I’ve learned while working at SMP?  Cupid has a funny way of helping you to meet “the one”… and it’s awesome.  See it all captured by A.J. Dunlap Photography right here.

From A.J. Dunlap Photography… This was a day waiting to happen. Due to an unforeseen family situation, the couple had to postpone their wedding six months on the morning of the original day. It was tragic, but Mark & Seldon didn’t let it stop them from having their dream wedding six months later. With a few changes in decor to match the new season, they said their vows on November 23, 2013 in Asheville, NC at the gorgeous Biltmore Forest Country Club.

I know we all say every couple is perfect together, but I promise if you spend five minutes with these two, you’ll agree that they are meant to be. The groom is from Wales, UK and the bride is from NC. They never should have met. But fate had other plans, and put them working on the same private yacht together five years ago. Being in such close quarters with nothing but ocean around them, they quickly fell in love.

Fast forward to their wedding day, seeing these two tie the knot (and yes, they even tied a nautical knot) was perfection. Seldon had dreamed of this wedding for years. She planned it all out from across the ocean, not missing a single detail. Her gown was her dream Winnie Couture gown that she picked out on a girls’ weekend with her mom and bridesmaids at a boutique in Atlanta, GA. The decor was perfect: flowers, candles, vases and more lined the aisle and adorned the tables during the reception. The bride’s father handmade the arbor they were married under, and the ceremony was officiated by her uncle. The groom’s mom brought Welsh love spoons all the way from Wales for them to hand out to their guests as favors. Nothing was forgotten.

Currently, the couple is on their three month around the world honeymoon.

Alice in Wonderland Inspiration at The Balcony On Dock

Add a dash of Alice in Wonderland inspired goodness to any event and, mark my words, you’re in for some serious pretty.  But combine those gorgeous details with a fabulous team of vendors like Mint 102Fiore Fine Flowers and Social Butterfly Events and that event becomes so much more than pretty… it’s downright amazing.  See every last ounce of awesome captured by Theo Milo in the full gallery.

And a beautiful film from Green Hope Productions

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/84518700 600 338]

From Social Butterfly Events… The exciting element of Courtyards and Cobblestones is that I am able to tap into my own imagination and design an entire room based on my loves. I started with my love for “Alice in Wonderland” but I didn’t want it to be so literal. I described the entire design as taking multiple eclectic elements and making them work cohesively together in one space. I wanted the attendees to walk into the space and be surprised with all of the elements that were used together, yet love it for the final product all working so well together.

Some inspiration pieces that I incorporated were:

– Gold owls, I just find them to be adorable so we used them as accent pieces on tables, on the back of the invitation suite and of course as cake toppers.

– I used a lot of different textured fabrics to showcase how they could all work together. We had faux burlap linen mixed with a sequin table runner. We used gold brickhouse for chair covers that provided movement for the ceremony chairs. I chose a table linen called tulle amazing flowers which was delicate and feminine and paired it with a ghost chair. The feminine feel with the modern chair was a perfect fit!

– I love the texture and look of moss in table centerpieces. I covered floral containers with moss to have another element of texture on the tables as well as incorporating moss covered balls in various sizes. I also had a structure made and covered it with moss to suspend birdcages from it as well. I wanted to have floral centerpieces as well as another décor element that wasn’t floral inspired.

– The backdrop for the ceremony was a way to provide a personalized touch to the space but it was dramatic enough to stand on its own without large floral components. I worked with Melissa from The Pretty Paperie who ran with my inspiration and make it a reality.

– The flowers needed to be rich in color but have a hand-picked loose arrangement feel. The deep colors reminded of “Alice in Wonderland “and the specific flowers that Fiore chose worked so well to make such a gorgeous bouquet and table arrangement.

-Lighting was going to be a huge element for the show so I wanted to make sure we had something custom made that fit the whimsical feel we were going for. Each paper lantern had around 300 cupcake liners attached to it. When we hung these in the space they provided a soft glow that complimented the candle elements on the table.

Bringing all of these elements together along with a gorgeous dress, a well-dressed man and all the little details made for a gorgeous day and a breathtaking photo shoot.

Traditional North Carolina Wedding at Proximity Hotel

I always look at the Groom. At the moment when the entire guest list turns to focus on the Bride as she walks down the aisle, I turn my head in the opposite direction to look at her soon-to-be husband. And it never fails to make me shed a tear or two. But I do believe Julie Livingston captured one of my favorite reactions to date of this Groom’s first look at his Bride. It’s a look of overwhelming emotion, and that carries out through every picture perfect moment planned by Leigh Pearce Weddings in this gallery.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/71435567 600 338]

From Leigh Pearce WeddingsNatosha and Justin’s Proximity Hotel wedding in Greensboro was one of my all time favorites. It was an absolutely perfect day without a single hiccup or cloud in the sky. Natosha and Justin’s love for one another is palpable and my staff and I were simply honored to witness their day. And don’t even get me started on their design. I was completely head over heels for every last detail from the custom menu cards we created to the gorgeous textured bouquets to Natosha’s “blue suede shoes” to the herb and boxwood aisle marker wreaths that smelled amazing. My favorite detail was our gold feather ceiling installation. It was absolutely stunning and caught the light in the most beautiful way. Julie Livingston captured every fabulous detail and soul touching moment.

Elegant Pink North Carolina Wedding

What happens when you have I Do Events planning your day from start to finish? Judging from this North Carolina affair, amazingly pretty things, my dears. From the burlap runners to the rich pops of pink, and every rustic chic detail in between, the gallery from Ellis Photo Studio is officially too good to miss. Get started here!

From Ellis Photo Studio… Michelle and Chris were married at the stunning Old Edwards Inn in Highland’s, NC. This Georgia couple met one summer as their families were vacationing at neighboring lake houses in Highlands. Michelle and Chris said their vows beneath a wooden cross crafted by the groom’s family’s lumber company. Elizabeth Fletcher transformed the Farm at Old Edwards. Chandeliers were draped in pink blooms while tables were covered in burlap and hand-crafted wooded boxes bursting with peonies. An emotional ceremony followed by a tearful first dance sealed the night. You couldn’t ask for a more idyllic wedding than Michelle + Chris’ beneath the great Smokey Mountains.

Vintage Chic Wilmington Wedding

My favorite image from a wedding usually lies in the details. The dress, a bouquet, one killer cake…but this time around my favorite snap from Millie Holloman Photography happens to be the last. The sparkler exit filled with so much joy and emotion, it’s enough to get you welled up in tears. But don’t take my word for it – have a peek at the gallery of these high school sweeties and decide for yourself!

From the Bride… Jerry & I met in our high school chemistry class, and well, our chemistry flourished from there! His interests were soccer & science, mine were show choir & photography, and we both had a huge knack for traveling, none of which has changed as we’ve grown together! He grew up in the small eastern North Carolina town of Goldsboro in southern elegance and I grew up as a hispanic Air Force brat. When we went away to college, he went for science while I went for photography, and I’m pretty sure he concocted some sort of love potion that kept us together! With this said, our cultures, our love for science & photography, and our love for traveling was what we channeled into our wedding.

The inspiration for our wedding was a southern vintage elegance with my Hispanic flair thrown in, something I’m pretty sure none of North Carolina has ever seen. We searched for a venue that fit our personality and ended up traveling to Wilmington, N.C. and falling in love with Brooklyn Arts Center at St. Andrews. This beautiful historic venue with rustic restored architecture had an air about it that we just couldn’t pass up. From this, we combined antique glass jars and apothecary bottles, knick knacks, vintage cameras, and lots of personal touches from our families to create our perfect day.

The ceremony was our most favorite part of the night, with family and beloved friends performing our ceremony music, which was a combination of Fleetwood Mac, Andrea Bocelli, and traditional Mexican wedding folk music. This was serenaded in both Spanish & English in memoriam of my grandfather would, who passed away about a month before the wedding. In his spot, we left his ranching whip, his class ring, and boutonniere. As we choked through our personal vows and our pastor led us through our unity ceremony, literally, “tying the knot”, we were magically married after almost six years of dreaming about it!

I chose not to view the reception space until we entered as a married couple, but I remember standing in awe as the amazing team from Salt Harbor Designs took my little girl dreams and turned them into an unforgettable night. And with photography being as important in my life as it is, we asked the astounding team of Amanda & Brent from Millie Holloman Photography to create our family heirlooms on our wedding night! Mexican glass star lanterns hung from the balcony, as papel picado and Edison lights draped across the reception space. Tables were decorated with cameras, film, and apothecary jars filled with the daintiest of white flowers. Our heirloom table held newspaper clips from our parents, our mothers’ veils, and our most beloved wedding photos of our grandparents. My mom, mother-in-law and sister-in-law worked on a ton of DIY details from the invitations, to the escort cards and the frames they hung in, to the rose petal cones, and my jewelry and garter. My amazing aunts made our beautiful bird cake topper to match Jerry and I to a tee and heirloom family bibles were wrapped together to be our little ring bearer’s pillow.

As our guests entered, they filled in mad libs for our guest book, and as they left, they grabbed a midnight snack of our favorite key lime pie ice cream sandwiches and bottled cokes. They danced the night away & wished us good luck as we started our new life together. They ate good ol’ southern cookin’ indulged themselves on the tastiest wedding cake and Mexican pan dulce, or sweet bread, throughout the night, and washed it all down with hand-mixed lemonade, beer, wine, & coffee . They have made us who we are as much as our family and cultures have, so we wanted to treat them right!

Jerry & I wanted our wedding to tell the story of us, our families, and our culture, which has made us who we’ve become as a married couple. We are truly blessed to have been able to treat our guests to an amazing night, forever hold each other’s hand in marriage & be best friends for life!

Preppy Durham North Carolina Wedding at the Carolina Inn

My inner prepster is totally in love with this wedding. With its gorgeous pink and green palette, seersucker bow ties and traditional yet fun styling, it is complete preppy perfection. Beautifully planned by Erin McLean Events, every gorgeous image sitting in this gallery from Robyn Van Dyke Photography will make you grin from ear to ear. See just what I mean right here.

From Robyn Van Dyke PhotographyThis gorgeous, southern wedding was inspired by seersucker and a joyful, preppy color combination of pink & green! This couple met while they were both working on a summer internship in D.C., and happily tied the knot this past summer on August 3rd! Their wedding day was so beautiful with all the green seersucker bow ties & details throughout their ceremony & reception, and I just loved how the bridesmaids’ lime-green Lula Kate dresses made the beautiful pink bouquets just pop! Erin McLean Events did a beautiful job with the design of the event to make the bride’s vision come true with pink sequin tablecloths, green wreaths, green seersucker wrapped vases, ties, and even decorated the fireplace mantle with candles wrapped in green seersucker bows! The pink lighting also added so much to the atmosphere of the gorgeous event and after lots of celebration and dancing, the couple happily departed with all of their guests waving green & pink ribbon wands!

Casual Yet Elegant North Carolina Wedding at the Old Edwards Inn And Spa

Nuptials in an apple orchard, an elegant reception complete with towering florals from Oakleaf Floral and an overall vibe of pure happiness, this wedding captured by Lang Thomas Photography and planned by No Regrets Events takes charming to a whole new level. It’s picture after picture of smile-inducing pretty, and you can see it all here.

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/sNOTIoP9pJo 600 338]

From No Regrets Events …Karrie and Chase live in Louisville, KY and met (for the third time!) in June of 2011 when Chase was our celebrating a birthday with one of his good friends. If you want to know about the first two times they met, you’ll have to ask Chase because Karrie didn’t find those two previous meetings quite as memorable…including living in the same dorms during their Freshman year while attending the University of Kentucky! But all joking aside, it must be true that third time is a charm because the third meeting made the two previous misses all worth the while.

The couple chose Highlands, NC for as their wedding destination because they fell I love with the area shortly after they started dating. Over a year in the making, their fall wedding weekend was just perfect! Every detail was thought of. The Apple Orchard at Old Edwards’ Farm as the perfect ceremony setting. Mother Nature took care of most of the decorations in the orchard and the talented designers at Oakleaf Floral added elegant touches. As you can see the weather was amazing! Crisp and cool just as you would expect a fall evening in the North Carolina mountains to be.

Classic Garden Wedding at the Biltmore Estate

Spring and Summer are perfect for outdoor garden affairs but this wedding held at The Biltmore is out to prove that open air Fall weddings can be quite beautiful as well. Maybe even your new favorite. Have a look at so much more of this autumn day designed by Asheville Event Co. and captured by Realities Photography right here in the full gallery.

Jenny and Dave were married at the Butterfly Gardens at the Biltmore Estate on a lovely Saturday in Novemember. I love this location because of the magnitude of the big brick greenhouse in the backdrop. This venue is such a unique location on the Biltmore Estate with so many backgrounds to shoot.

Their wedding was complete with the following precious details:

A beautifully decorated photo table with wedding images from many generations.
They used old wooden Coca Cola crates to create a vintage effect.
Krispy Kreme donuts were served to the guests as a late night snack, and they were still hot! (Thank you Missie, Asheville Event Co.)
Fireworks spontaneously happened, and the crowd went wild!

Rustic Meets Preppy North Carolina Wedding at Claxton Farm

This wedding is SO much fun. It’s rustic barn wedding meets Lilly Pulitzer-wearing bridesmaids, which turns out to be a total match made in heaven. Rustic prep might just be my new favorite wedding category. With Claxton Farm setting the pretty scene and Stephanie Yonce snapping up the gorgeous pictures, it goes without saying this gallery is simply fabulous.

From Stephanie Yonce Photography...Celebrating a September engagement, Alyssa and Pascal knew that wedding the following fall would be just perfect. After visiting Claxton Farms, Alyssa and Pascal quickly realized it was the perfect venue to set the stage for their whimsical and rustic vision.

The couple hoped for a wedding that was truly personalized from start to finish. Incorporating wine barrels, hay, and cork into the decor lent itself to the rustic vision, while the lace, bright flowers, and twinkly lights gave the day the whimsical feel they had desired. The two also decided on a signature drink, “Teddy Tea-tini,” in honor of their beloved Bichon, Teddy, who was unable to make an appearance the day of their wedding festivities. Being self-professed sugar addicts, it may come as no surprise that candy served as its own theme, with each table being named after their favorite candy, while also featuring a mason jar filled to the brim with their favorite treats.

The Appalachian Mountains served as their backdrop, and the lovely weather allowed the couple to take full advantage of the idyllic landscape on their wedding day. The guests danced into the evening to the sounds of bluegrass music while also enjoying cooking s’mores over a fire pit. As a parting gift, guests were given koozies designed by Pascal featuring the state of North Carolina with a small heart over Asheville.

Alyssa looks fondly back on their first look, as well as the moment her parents saw her for the first time that day. Pascal loved watching Alyssa walk down the aisle with her father, as well as the final gathering of friends and family for the sparkler exit.

As for advice for future brides, Alyssa shares, “Enjoy the process. Pascal and I promised once we started the planning that we would have fun throughout the process. We didn’t want to get to the end and have this huge relief that it was over. We wanted to enjoy it the whole way through. Just remember that at the end of the day, it is all about love. The love you have for each other and the love for your family and friends. It was amazing to look out and see all the people that we love so much there!

Rustic Asheville North Carolina Wedding

Charming doesn’t even begin to describe this pretty little farm fete captured by Robyn Van Dyke Photography. It’s Darling with a capital D, and the perfect bit of inspiration for all you Brides out there looking to recreate something equally special for their big day. This gallery is just pure sweetness, and you can devour every drop right here.

From Robyn Van Dyke PhotographyThis gorgeous DIY, mountain wedding was set in the mountains of Asheville just as the leaves started to change colors on October 18, 2013. Inspired by the bride’s childhood growing up on a farm surrounded by animals, and the couple’s mutual love for the Asheville mountains, the couple chose the Claxton Farm as the perfect setting for their beautiful wedding day! The bride & groom did an amazing job with the DIY design and planning of the event. I loved all of the unique little details they included that represented each of them and their passions from pumpkins, books, vintage cameras, to all the woodwork that the groom did himself! All of the lace and feminine colors made the rustic, mountain farm setting so lovely and whimsical as well!”

From the Bride… Ever since I was 7, I could always be spotted racing around barefoot across the field on my big, fat pony, covered in mud (sorry mum), with my only concern being “should I play with the chickens or goats when I get back?” So on September 23rd, when my amazing now husband, Jordan, got down on one knee at the Biltmore Estate (eeek!) and popped the question, I instantly knew exactly what kind of wedding we would have.

Asheville has always had a special place in our hearts, (we often travel there to escape from city life) and since it was where we got engaged, we knew we also wanted to start our forever there. During our search for the perfect mountain farm retreat, we checked out several venues in the area, but once we discovered Claxton Farm, we instantly fell in love! It was enclosed by 360 degrees of mountain range without a power line in sight, cows softly mooing in the background, goats, miniature ponies and even a LLAMA! Perfect!

As we continued to plan our wedding, we wanted pieces of each of us to be represented throughout the design. Little white pumpkins were placed on each table as a nod to Jordan’s Punkin Chunkin skills, antique cameras were scattered throughout due to our own shared passion for photography, old books could be seen as a reminder of our love for learning (Jordan is a PhD student!), and even the old Farmhouse tables reflected Jordan’s appreciation and love for beautiful craftsmanship. And each detail, from the soft unstructured flowers, to the eclectic dessert buffet, and even the rhythmic signs scattered around, made the event feel warm even amidst the cool autumn mountain air. It felt familiar, yet magical at the same time. It was the perfect reflection of each of us, and our wedding day was even more perfect than we could have imagined!

Foodie Wedding on Hatteras Island

I literally haven’t been able to tear myself away from this wedding. It’s my definition of perfect. The elegantly mismatched purple palette, the soft pretty coastal backdrop, the rustic meets girly decor and um, can we talk about the food? Crab cakes, oysters, ahi tun and a bourbon bar!? Perfection indeed. Need more proof? Check out the stunning images from Emily March!

From Photographer, Emily March…During a trip to the Outer Banks some time ago, Becca and John had dinner at the Cafe Pamlico, a gourmet restaurant attached to the charming Inn on Pamlico Sound. As they sat beneath the evening sky and twinkling lights, they knew they had to have their wedding reception under those same lights with the quiet murmur of the sound nearby. John is a chef and, according to his best man, found his passion for cooking when he made Becca dinner on their first date. The two had some of the best food I’ve ever seen at a wedding: oysters of the half shell, mini crab cakes, and a custom dinner menu with food made fresh for each guest. They even had a bourbon and whisky bar set atop two old whisky barrels.

Their reception had a vintage and rustic style. The 3 banquet tables were lined with mercury glass votives and antique gas lamps that were lit just as the sun was setting underneath a fiery sky. We fought a 90% chance of rain all day, but the sunset off the water was easily one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. John’s mom actually helped design and style the entire day. She created a romantic and intimate mood with gorgeous details that gave the entire evening an understated elegance and warmth. I’ve included some of her words below.

From Judy, mother of the groom…The feeling of the wedding was vintage/rustic which was the request of the bride and groom, a look that is popular for weddings today. And that theme worked perfectly with the venue and location. John and Rebecca were married on Hatteras Island, a place rich in history that has an organic and unspoiled feel. They were married in a quaint church on the island, and their reception was held at a nearby inn. Add in the couple’s mothers, who love to hunt and gather at antique stores and thrift shops, and the decor was born.

Becca chose shades of purple for her bridesmaids, and the centerpieces included some of her favorite flowers. The oil lamps were requested by the bride, and they added a magical glow to the tables without interfering with guests conversations. A farm table, whiskey barrels, chalk boards, and handmade touches were brought in to add character. And handwritten place cards tied onto vintage keys were a necessary touch, since the reception was held at the inn.

Vintage Glam Elopement Shoot + WIUP

A major tulle moment is cause for celebration. So is a vintage glam inspired photo shoot complete with cranberry cocktails. Designed by Simply Put Vintage, with florals by The English Garden and photographs by Blue Barn Photography, this pretty inspiration is perfect for a couple planning an intimate, cozy affair. See so much more right here.

There are few things more beautiful than a tulle skirt floating in the wind, sugar coated cranberries, majestic horses, and a sweet couple in love! Which is why we were absolutely smitten while planning and designing this shoot. The metallic and glittery details found on the bar made our glamorous side smile, while the open fields and red barn made us feel at home. It’s the perfect mix of romance, vintage, and glam.

When styling this shoot, we imagined this couple coming straight from the small courthouse in their home town to celebrate their marriage in an intimate setting. That included champagne toasts, getting cozy on large chairs, and dancing as the sun went down. And what barn celebration is complete without the recently wed couple making their grand getaway on a horse adorned in flowers?

Romantic Lonesome Valley Wedding

It’s not every day that you see a wedding this romantic.  A wedding sooo drenched in awe-inspiring details, it’s like Jane Austen crafted every last detail herself.  From the lush blooms from Floressence to the gorgeous images captured by Josh Goleman of The Wedding Artists Collective to the breathtaking Lonesome Valley setting, it’s a non-stop day of heartwarming moments and l.o.v.e.  See it all here.

From the Bride… Our wedding weekend was the best three days of our lives. It was so magical and beyond what we ever expected. We wanted our wedding to be about the love we share for each other and the love and appreciation we feel for our family and friends, so Andrew and I decided to get married close to his parents’ home in the mountains of North Carolina for its quiet beauty and small town charm. We imagined our friends and family on vacation together – a summer camp for adults – filled with lots of fun activities and celebrations. Andrew’s parents were thrilled and helped with what they do best, making everyone feel at home and comfortable.

Every detail was important to us, but we also find beauty in imperfection. We were very open to inspiration found all around us, and we were never afraid to break rules. It was important for the wedding to feel intimate and warm and full of love, so everything was special and handmade from the stationery that we designed with my brother and his girlfriend to the vintage stamps used on invitations to the welcome bags and everything in between. Andrew and I also wanted to be sure we had a team working with us that understood our vision and with whom we could trust to build on our ideas. We got so lucky and found the most amazing, creative florist, planner, photographers, musicians and caterers – we were always on the same page.

Lonesome Valley is gorgeous, so we kept the decor simple and elegant to enhance the natural beauty of the region. A little bohemia, a little French country, a little rock n roll, lots of candlelight…

In the end, everything was perfect. It was our greatest joy to finally get married after being in love for over nine years with all of our friends and family surrounding us. We were careful to enjoy every single moment. We laughed, we cried, we didn’t take anything too seriously, we ate delicious food and danced like crazy – and it was over way sooner than we ever wanted it to be. But we have the most incredible memories to look back upon – and really beautiful photographs and videos.

Coral Wedding at Mountain Magnolia Inn

We’re certainly no stranger to a pretty pop of color around these parts. In fact, we recently rounded up a few of our favorite color happy moments and today we’re adding to the love list. BIG time. D’Arcy Benincosa snapped the scenes of this bright coral fete, and you can get to pinning every last moment in the gallery right here.

From the Bride… Scott proposed to me on top of a volcano in Maui. We share a love for the outdoors, so it was fitting he proposed in such a rugged, jaw-dropping environment. The double rainbow didn’t hurt either. We had been dating four years and knew we didn’t want a long engagement. The wedding date was set for seven months later – September 21, 2013.

We envisioned a wedding that was romantic, meaningful, and most importantly, represented us. We decided on a unique venue in the mountains of North Carolina. The Mountain Magnolia Inn is a restored Victorian estate in a beautiful outdoor setting, nestled in Hot Springs – a quaint little mountain town that offers premium access to the Appalachian Trail, mineral hot springs, whitewater rafting and countless other adventures. We knew this was the spot. A gorgeous mountain getaway that was close to cosmopolitan Asheville, yet small enough our guests were all within arms reach.

On the big day, we woke to pouring rain. The ceremony was to be held outside under a 150 year-old black walnut tree! Weeks before, I had scoured Etsy for seven vintage pendant lights to hang on the tree. I knew that regardless of the weather, Scott and I were getting married under that tree. My wonderful photographer D’Arcy Benincosa assured me she could work around the rain. Somehow the rain would make the photographs romantic and lovely. I believed her but it didn’t matter. On cue, the clouds parted and the sun emerged moments before the ceremony.

Our reception was held under a tent with strings of cafe lights swooping down. I had a vision of dark, wooden farm-style tables. We wanted our guests to walk into the tent and feel like they were a attending a big family dinner. I rented mismatched china from East West Vintage rentals in Asheville. The two sisters dressed the tables brilliantly, a tasteful array of china, flatware and two crystal goblets with gold rims for Scott and me.

Flower Gallery, also from Asheville, truly took my breath away when I saw my bouquet and centerpieces. They took my wish for a simple, natural elegance combined with wildflower romance and ran with it. Our color palette was cream/ivory, coral, peach and deep burnt sienna. My favorite touch was they included fresh herbs in my bouquet and centerpieces. Now, every time I smell rosemary and thai basil, I’ll be reminded of my wedding day.

We opted for a dessert bar that included a German Chocolate cake, peach and apple pies, macaroons, lemon bars, cookies and more. My only regret was not tasting more of baker Karen Donatelli’s delicious confections! One highlight to note was sharing our personal vows under the glowing pendant lights. We felt so much love for those twenty minutes nestled under that tree deep in the Blue Ridge mountains.

While our guests enjoyed a bourbon and champagne-fueled cocktail hour, D’Arcy followed us to the river and captured us in our rain boots playing in the water. Our reception featured dancing to our favorite songs, an impromptu Thriller dance in werewolf masks, a bonfire with s’mores, pumpkin homebrew, log sawing, and the releasing of a Chinese lantern. The log sawing is a German tradition that symbolizes the first challenge a newly-married couple overcomes together. I never thought I would be sawing a log in my wedding dress and heels!

It was the perfect day for us. Scott and I are very thankful we have the gorgeous photos and video from D’Arcy. We’ll treasure those memories for a lifetime.

Emerald Green Winter Wedding

Winter weddings make me happy.  Especially winter weddings dripping in classic details and gold and emerald green hues.  That’s the kind of wedding that really puts a smile on my face… and this beautiful day captured by Katelyn James Photography?  It’s all of the above and then some with beautiful blooms from Fiore Fine Flowers and Allure bridesmaid frocks that will leave you speechless.  See it all here.

From Katelyn James Photography… This southern wedding took place in the quaint little town of Southport, NC. Tim and Mary Margaret’s reception venue overlooked the waterfront and was actually recently used in the hit movie “Safe Haven”! This infamous location made for a perfect winter wedding venue. Between the full length, emerald green bridesmaids dresses and winter white peonies, I couldn’t have loved their palette more!! Tim and Mary Margaret have a “thing” for old, historic bricks. They were incorporated into their centerpieces because they have been collecting them throughout their whole relationship! They were married in one of the oldest historic churches in the area and the southern charm was evident throughout the entire event!

Colorful Farm to Table Wedding Inspiration

If I wasn’t craving springtime already, this gorgeous shoot from Ashlee Little Weddings + Events and Kendall Lynnette Photography will have me begging Punxsutawney Phil to rethink his prediction of an early spring. Sitting in this gallery is everything I just adore about that wonderful season – bright blooms, pretty dresses and farm to table dinners – so if you need me today, I’ll be devouring all the goodness right here.

From Ashlee Little Weddings + EventsThere is something about picking a tomato right off the vine on a hot afternoon in North Carolina, the steam rising from the ground following an afternoon rain shower, and shucking corn right on your front porch. The soil in the South has a certain richness to it that cultivates a beautiful final product. Our styled shoot celebrates the ability to take product from the ground straight to your plate – Farm to Table.

Set at a fabulous private residence in Durham, North Carolina, the white-washed farm table from Simply Put Vintage Rentals featured bountiful vegetables, fresh-cut blooms, and vintage place settings. A gorgeous mustard colored settee and other furniture details provided a beautiful backdrop for our bride and bridesmaids. Carrying hand tied bouquets of dahlias, chrysanthemums, zinnias, and celosia, our bridesmaids wore casual dresses from LaMaLu Boutique with bow back details. The bride wore a champagne colored gown with an ivory lace overlay, and her hair featured a gorgeous braided crown detail.

The final product has us ready to put on our cowboy boots and pull a chair up to the table!

Elegant Gold Beach Engagement Shoot

This Badgley Mischka gown owns my whole heart and anyone who puts it on is absolutely beautiful – but this bride to be. Oh, this bride to be has stopped my in my tracks and taken my breath away. She put on the gold gown, grabbed her handsome hubby to be and Nancy Ray Photography and frolicked on the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen, and I’m in awe.

From the photographer… These sweet engagement images were taken in Pine Knoll Shores, on the beautiful coast of North Carolina. These beaches have a lot of meaning for Callie and Jamie, since Jamie’s family owns a home within walking distance of this beach. Every aspect of this session brought me so much joy – because I know this couple really well, I could tell that it every detail was perfectly them. On the beach at sunset in a beautiful gown and handsome suit. It couldn’t have been more fitting for their style! We also had a more casual time in the harbor where Jamie’s family boat is located. There was so much laughter and joy throughout the entire session; I couldn’t be happier for this beautiful couple!
