From the graceful al fresco ceremony to a painter creating a beautiful work of art during the reception (loving this idea!) to the stunning autumn palette, this wedding is wholeheartedly a Fearrington Village wedding at it’s best: romantic, beautiful and full of joy. And we have Faith Teasley to thank for capturing it all from behind her lovely lens. Head to the full gallery for more!

From Faith TeasleyLeigh and Samuel were wed on a truly magical day at Fearrington Village. After growing up with regular visits to Fearrington, it was a natural choice for Leigh’s wedding venue. The Fearrington team created such a lovely affair for this sweet couple. Every detail, from the fall inspired flower arrangements to an exquisite menu, was perfect. Eleatta Diver, an artist, painted a breathtaking Fearrington scene during the reception. The love between Leigh and Samuel is contagious! That October day was a joy-filled occassion for all in attendance.

From Angelita Esparar Photography… The bride had an amazing vision and turned a Friday night into a fun and romantic evening. The bride and groom were such a perfect couple- they spoke kindly to one another and were deeply IN-LOVE– and what set this apart is the way they celebrated it. They turned Vizcaya villa into a place that they can call their “own” with bits and pieces pulled from their homes and natural elements. Plants as giveaways, their furniture as a place to mingle before their ceremony, and a reception hall filled food to satisfy the sweet-tooth (and gluten free!). Their ceremony took place right at dusk followed by a dessert reception.

From The Bride… My dream for the wedding was a romantic Friday night out for all my friends. I wanted them to be surrounded by glowy lighting, fragrant flowers, and antiques and textiles layered on to add comfort and depth to the feel. I wanted the music to be live and classy, the food to be healthy but delicious, and for the guests to be able to step out on the balcony at night by the Italian rooftop garden under the bistro lights and remember it forever!

I love combining an unusual element for surprise in anything I do, so I went for antlers for that feature. I used gold and crystal primarily though, playing off of some Russian, gold mirrors and a Spanish chandelier from the 1950’s that I love. Another unique feature would be all the antique furniture!

Most memorable moment would have to be dancing with my true love during the reception. I just remember being surrounded by everyone I love and being in the arms I love most. It was a full moment!

We made a custom blend because we wanted to do some salsa and mambo moves alongside some slow dancing! We started with my favorite “All of Me” by John Legend, then transitioned into “I’ll Always Love You,” “Hips don’t lie” from Shakira, and then finally finished up with the salsa version of Michael Jackson “You Rock My World.” It was so much fun!! It really was a perfect dance for us, since although we are romantic, we are on fire too!

We started the evening for the guests as soon as they arrived with a cocktail hour with a drink station and opening the bar. We served fresh seasonal fruit skewers, miniature lasagnas, and turkey wraps, for anyone who might have missed dinner. My sister-in-laws are incredible in the kitchen and they thoughtfully agreed to prepare those delicious dishes.

At the reception we served a huge dessert buffet surrounding a three-tiered naked cake. Every dessert was gluten free and vegan from two local chefs. It was definitely a dream come true! All the buffet desserts were miniature: chocolate mousse cups, gold dusted cake pops, key lime tartlets, these incredible carrot cake cupcakes, petit four rice crispy treats, miniature cheesecakes, petit four fudge brownies, and fruit topped cream tarts.

Does it count that all the decor (except for a little extra furniture) came from inside my house? My home was stripped bare! My rugs, lighting, chalkboards, frames were refilled with wedding photos, silver trays and candlesticks, even my huge ottoman became a children’s play area. I would have liked to bring the antique piano but all my wonderful friends and family were already doing so much to basically move my house for a day. They did amazing! My little sister even made little wedding coloring books tied with ribbon for the children. I guess I did DIY all the flowers. Boutonnières, bouquets, and table arrangements. Molly (the wedding coordinator) did the ones on the buffet table.

Whimsical + Elegant Charlotte Wedding

Darlings, I cannot wait to share today’s recipe for pretty. Take two Irish Catholic cuties, pair them up with the planning genius that is The Graceful Host, add a dash of whimsy and a dash of elegance and the result is one ridiculously beautiful, classic wedding day. Dressed in kelly green and a turquoise navy, the hues will make your eyes dance in every capture from Lauren Rosenau Photography. See more in here!

From The Graceful HostHard to believe that just a few months ago this sweet couple, Katelyn and Phillip, were married in a beautiful ceremony in Charlotte, North Carolina. I’ll never forget my first phone call from Katelyn. This busy bride-to-be knew that she needed a planner, and she’d do whatever it would take to get one – even changing her wedding date so that she could book me! Honored and humbled just skims the surface of how I felt when this amazing bride said that she couldn’t imagine getting married without my help.Working with these two was such a blast! There was no shortage of laughter at each meeting. Katelyn came to me with a vision of a vintage romance meets artistic whimsy meets elegance wedding inspiration that had no shortage of personal touches and was big on family traditions. I mean, we’ve got two Irish Catholic families here! Katelyn had gotten her dream dress from Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City. It was a beautiful and timeless lace gown with a cathedral length lace trimmed veil and a jeweled champagne sash for a pop of sparkle. Her dress became a source of inspiration for a number of wedding details. I worked with Katelyn to create something unique and beautiful in a color palette of navy, cream and kelly green keeping accents of vintage charm and whimsical elegance throughout each detail. The centerpieces included unique flowers like green trick, kale, anemone, hostas and bells of Ireland for a bit of an artistic touch. Along the head table we had three tall candelabras with smilax, hanging amaranths, umbrella fern, white stock, and bells of Ireland wrapped and draped around for an ultra romantic look. As with most brides, Katelyn also wanted to create an intimate atmosphere using a lot of candle light. Personal touches were important to this couple, so we included as many as possible: the bagpiper that greeted guests upon arrival to the Catholic Church and lead the couple out of the ceremony was a nod to their Irish heritage, the fire helmet sitting on the front pew of the church with a family rosary was in honor of the brides late grandfather, & the lace detailing on the wedding cake which was inspired by the brides wedding dress – to name a few. The bride and groom danced the night away at the Mint Museum in Uptown Charlotte, NC, and left the reception to a ribbon wand exit on the front staircase. As they got into a pedicab, they waved good night to family and friends and headed off to start their honeymoon.

Blackberry + Mint Winter Wedding Inspiration

Darlings, if you’re on the hunt for a gorgeous winter color palette, search no more, because this one is a stunner: pale mint and blackberry, paired with a sweet peach and forest green. Perfection, right? And it’s completely elevated by the glowing candlelight and quaint architecture of this shoot set at The Merrimon-Wynne House. Dreamt up by Nancy Ray Photography and Rebecca Rose Events, you can get your pin on right here in the gallery.

From Nancy Ray PhotographyThe inspiration for this shoot came from the restlessness we felt at the end of winter, when the sunlight is streaming in through tall windows and hinting at the beauty outside. We loved the playfulness of blackberries and mint – both the berries and herbs themselves, as well as their color palette that is soft and rich at the same time. In starting to plan for this shoot, I really wanted a beautiful indoor space with clean white walls and elegant architectural details. A space where candlelight could glow, florals could be organic and striking and this simple concept could be conveyed with sophistication and beauty, and captured on film. Nancy suggested the historic Merrimon-Wynne House in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina and we were both immediately smitten with the idea. We imagined an intimate dinner reception, cigars and brandy to follow and just a tiny bit of frolicking on the large wrap-around porch. Jared (my little brother!) and Jordy are engaged to be married later this year and their playful chemistry is evident to all who interact with them, which made shooting these two together a true joy.

Classic North Carolina Wedding at The Carolina Inn

Wonderfully elegant yet with the lofty-goodness of The Carolina Inn, this stunning North Carolina soiree will stick with you today. Because as you carefully peel away all the layers of gorgeous sitting pretty in this gallery, you’ll quickly realize this wedding has it all. It’s modern yet classic, elegant yet fun, and all captured to perfection by Graham Terhune Photography – making every image a must see.

From Graham Terhune PhotographyJulianne and Taylor are New York City residents who decided to celebrate their wedding in a place very dear to both of their hearts, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. When deciding on a location, Julianne and Taylor wanted their wedding to feel authentically “them.” Thus, they chose to get ready in one of their favorite spots, The Carolina Inn and they held their ceremony and reception at the Cotton Room in Durham. Both places were perfect for the couple. The Carolina Inn provided the classic, Chapel Hill feel and allowed both Julianne and Taylor to get ready with their friends, and then hold their first look and portraits in such a beautiful space. Julianne and Taylor chose the Cotton Room for their ceremony and reception because it felt lofty and like their cozy apartment in NYC. Julianne and Taylor’s wedding day was full of joy, laughter, friendship and compassion. We were blown away by the calm nature of both the bride and the groom – they were completely about soaking in the day and the special commitment between one another. We think that both Julianne and Taylor were radiant on their wedding day.

Second Chance Wedding Shoot in North Carolina at the VanLandingham Estate

This couples’ story will warm your heart right up this Monday morning. With the help of a talented team of vendors including Taken By Sarah PhotographyWillow Floral Boutique, and Ella’s Celestial Cakes (just to name a few), they were able to create the dream wedding day they never got to have, to the same person they will always love. See the entire shoot here.

From Taken By Sarah PhotographyWhat started as an inspiration wedding shoot turned into so much more when we found our perfect couple to give a second chance for a wedding.

From The Bride…Some say young love won’t last, that you need to find yourself before you can truly love someone else. But for us, we found love at a young age, and that love grew up together. We met in middle school, and on that day at a mere 13 years old, CR told his best friend that he’d found the girl he was going to marry. At the ripe age of 20 he proposed, and though we had no money for a big fancy wedding, we had more love than one could dream of. My grandparents were our inspiration, they had married at 16 and 19, and were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They gave us their original rings from 50 years ago, and we all celebrated the lifetime of love they shared, and our wedding on the same beautiful day at a small plantation in Georgia.

We are approaching a decade of marriage, 4 beautiful children, and a hope for the same lasting love my grandparents found. It was wonderful to have a second chance wedding that we could have only dreamed of, and knowing that we would marry each other all over again, with an even stronger love and commitment than we did so many years ago…

From Sweet SaraBell WeddingsThis shoot was inspired by the beautifully serene farmland, fields and forests of North Carolina. One of the things I love most about North Carolina is how you can be in the downtown city, and in a matter of minutes you can drive into the rolling hills filled with cattle, horses and wildflowers. We wanted to celebrate the beauty found in nature, and enhance it with soft tones, natural elements, delicate flowers, and unique decorations. All of the creative minds involved in this shoot are people that not only have amazing talent, they are people that have amazing hearts. It was truly a pleasure to come together with these wonderful people to share our inspiration and passion for naturally beautiful events.

Contemporary Southern Wedding in Asheville

Crafting a marriage below the Mason-Dixon line this designer couple, captured by Matthew Moore Photography, ensured every element of ephemera was their own. From tea towels, to pillows, every detail differs from tradition in the chicest way. Kiersa Holy planned a night in the mountains filled with cocktails and local boogie-jazz. More right here!.

From The Bride..Our wedding was a curated contemporary affair with every detail designed by my husband and myself. Blending an outdoor ceremony with an indoor reception truly captured the artistic and eclectic vibe of our personalities and our host city.

Sassy Southern Soirée is the most fitting description of our September 28, 2013 wedding, deep in the throws of Autumn in Asheville, North Carolina. Instead of identifying a theme or color scheme, we purposefully chose every detail with the emotion that it would invoke. How will it make our guests feel, what will they remember, and what will they reflect on—long after the event is over. With that in mind, we thoughtfully crafted each and every element of ephemera ourselves, From the custom screen-printed save the date tea towels, to the bespoke throw pillows displaying our Southern and Swedish heritage and even a hand-painted watercolor cake topper depicting the bride and groom.

I met Joel on his first day of Grad School at Savannah College of Art and Design and we started dating about 6 months later. Over the course of our 8 years of dating (yeah – 8 years!) we got more than our fair share of questions about if we were ever going to “make it official.” I always told Joel that I didn’t need a ring on my finger to show the world that I was in love with him. But I have to admit, when he slipped a platinum set, cushion cut diamond on my finger (which he designed himself) atop a black sand beach in Hawaii, I couldn’t have been more surprised or excited to “wife up.”

Needless to say, we took a very casual approach to our wedding and with that in mind opted to do our “first look” photos at the Asheville City Hall. We had originally wanted to have the ceremony there as it is one of the foremost iconic art-deco buildings in the South. We also thought it would be a fun take on the tradition of getting married at city hall. While that didn’t work out with the city’s restrictions, it was the perfect backdrop for our most intimate photos of the day. As a municipal building, it was completely empty and quiet on a Saturday afternoon so we had total intimacy as we saw each other for the first time. Katie and Matt did an exceptional job capturing the entire day, but I was especially taken aback by how beautiful and emotional these photos are.

Next, we made our way to our modern house in the mountains for a couple of individual shots against the contemporary backdrop and clean architectural lines of the interior. These images provided a great juxtaposition to the bridal party photos we shot later at Hickory Nut Gap Farm. Throughout the day, we tried to find those beautiful dichotomies whether it was the elegant beaded bridesmaid dresses against the rugged mountain backdrop or the structured outdoor ceremony paired with a casual gallery reception, we looked for opportunities to deviate from the expected wedding traditions.

The soiree started with a sentimental and symbolic ceremony around the Johnston Pool of the North Carolina Arboretum. We chose that venue as it was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same landscape designer made famous for creating Central Park, and we felt it was a great way to pay homage to our home city of New York. One of my favorite details of the ceremony was the screen-printed handkerchief programs I designed for our guests to keep as a reminder of the momentous occasion we all shared together. The ceremony was full of love and lots of laughs as Joel and I wrote most of it ourselves with the help of our amazing officiant, Darr Conradson. The ceremony was modern and fresh as we walked down the aisle to the Coldplay song “Us Against the World” and just as Darr uttered the words, you may kiss the bride, the guests burst in to applause to the tune of “You’re My Best Friend” by Queen in the background.

The words “Mimia & Joel” spelled out in white neon greeted guests as they entered the reception at the Lift Studios, a refurbished Nabisco factory turned contemporary art gallery. We chose this venue as we are both designers (myself an art director and Joel a furniture designer) so we wanted a space that reflected our personalities and eclectic artistic styles. Another great upside to using a gallery space is that we got to support local artists with our wedding budget and not just traditional vendors.

Revelers relished in southern-fried delicacies from local food truck The Lowdown, along with artisanal cocktails, and dancing courtesy of local boogie-jazz band The Roaring Lions. We planned every detail down to the hand-stamped bamboo silverware showcasing phrases like “it’s about forking time” and “for the rest of our knives.” One thing to keep in mind when choosing a non-traditional venue such as an art gallery, there is no kitchen or even a place to wash dishes so we had to find alternatives for plates. We found these fun food boats at a restaurant supply company and I stamped them with a food safe ink stamp I had made that read “eat your heart out.” After over eight years of dating, I think our guests appreciated our tongue-and-cheek approach to our nuptials. We even had our favorite southern snack, Krispy Kreme donuts served on napkins, of course stamped as well, with the line “do-nut you know we love you.”

Our soirée came to a close with guests ripping open hand stitched confetti packets that my mom and I made together, wrapped in the words “Finally” and “Woo-Hoo” as we ran for a 1968 Cadillac convertible. One of our fondest memories of the day is riding through the star-lit streets of Asheville with strangers shouting their congratulations as we rolled through town in the vintage car. It was a magical night in the mountains celebrating a marriage made below the Mason-Dixon.

Southern Chic Mountainside Wedding

Beyond the breathtaking layer of fog gracing the mountainside, this soiree snapped up by Jillian Michelle Photography is bursting at the seams with pure pretty. Pretty in the form of a stunning Stella York dress, elegantly playful invites from Amanda Day Rose Paperie, and peach garden roses from Pink Petunia. But when it comes to the real beauty? The heart behind this day? You bet there’s a whole lotta that too.

From the beautiful Bride…Philip and I met on July 1, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church while living in Winston Salem. I sat down next to him in the pew one Sunday and he introduced himself. He asked me out for coffee, but our first date actually up being a Dash baseball game. Philip and I dated for close to a year and a half before getting engaged in December 2013.

Our wedding really came down to trying to make the things we loved tie together to express that to our guests. We also both share a love for small mountain communities and had a desire to support small businesses as well as the local economy as much as we could in the process of planning the wedding. Those were driving factors. As far as the color schemes, there were a lot of colors that we talked about, but peach is my favorite summer fruit and I also happen to love the color. Peach was a warm color that blended well with natural tones such as burlap and ivory, which fit what I envisioned. We incorporated coffee beans and vanilla candles on the table because Philip and I enjoy coffee (of most any sort!) and he asked me to coffee when we first met. We served Southern cuisine because that reflects our roots – our guests enjoyed fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, biscuits and sweet tea.

Romantic North Carolina Wedding at The Atrium

I think it goes without saying that I am kind of in love with weddings, but shoreline soirees have my heart wrapped around their little finger. One peek at the pretty below from Indigosilver and Bao Events, and it’s easy to see why. Romantic but with a warm and inviting feel, this gallery is sure to make all wedding-lovers gush. See even more here.

From Bao EventsErin and Joe’s gorgeous wedding utilized the beauty of the venue to create a charming and romantic atmosphere. The lively couple, from New York, was married on May 31, 2014 on the shore of Wrightsville Beach. The reception was held afterwards at The Atrium in the spectacular ivy-covered courtyard. The deep natural wood farm tables and matching Chivari chairs created a classy feel. These along with the greens and soft pastels in the flowers from Bella Florals continued the romantic woodland theme. Almost like finding a tiny robin’s egg in a nest, details of Tiffany blue added a sweet touch of color with linen napkins, centerpieces, and the groom’s suspenders and bow-tie.

Classic Southern Elegance at The Merrimon-Wynne House

When a wedding day is sprinkled with the sweetest happy tears like this one, you know it was a beautiful one, inside and out. With Events By La Fete behind the planning, it’s no surprise it went off without a hitch. Gingham bow ties, turquoise ‘maids, a stunning Bride covered in lace, a darling cake from Sugarland Bakery… everything in it’s pretty place. See it all in the gallery from Ginny Corbett!

From the beautiful Bride…Chris and I grew up a quarter of a mile from each other in Raleigh, NC. We were friends through high school and we attended his Senior Prom together. After he left for college we remained friends until the next year, when I too attended East Carolina University. Chris promised to show me the ropes and we spent a lot of time together. One day I worked up the nerve to tell him I did not just want to be friends anymore and the rest is history!

Nearly 9 years later, when it came to planning our wedding there were a few things we had to have, it to take place in our hometown of Raleigh, NC, a killer party and Ginny Corbett as our wedding photographer. (Looking at the beautiful images I am sure you can tell why)

The biggest challenge was that we wanted to have the wedding somewhere we had never attended a wedding. This posed a challenge because we had been to ALOT of weddings. We were feeling discouraged when a coworker of Chris’s told him about the Merrimon Wynne house, a brand new event venue. We were immediately intrigued and scheduled a meeting with the owner Jodi right away. The home was in disrepair and left a lot to be desired, but Jodi explained her vision and Chris and I knew we HAD to have our wedding there. The Merrimon Wynne house far exceeded our expectations, the grounds and home we immaculate and the perfect backdrop for our day.

Jodi gave me the information for our amazing planner Katie Dunn with Events by La Fete. I met Katie with my my Mom and Sister and we all felt so comfortable with her, I knew she understood my vision even though I was not quite sure I did. She helped assemble the most talented group of vendors and wedding professionals to bring our vision to life. We envisioned a comfortable day of classic southern elegance filled with blues and greens and soft neutrals.

Chris wanted a hand in two things, the venue and the guys attire. We selected tan seersucker suits, tan bucks, monogrammed pocket squares and High Cotton bow ties which went perfectly with the “fresh” bridesmaid dresses and gold jewelry. The mix of fresh flowers and candles kept everything light and bright, the pop of pink in the bridesmaid bouquets brought some playfulness to the palette and the draped lights made the tent glow and kept the party going well into the evening. We loved our custom wood “guestbook” and the oversized chalkboard seating chart, but I think our favorite detail was the cold gelato which was much needed on the warm June evening.

The day was not without its challenges, we had to move the ceremony from the lawn to under the tent due to the threat of bad weather. Thankfully, that bad weather came as the space was being flipped for the reception and all the guests were comfortably inside for cocktails. Chris and I were able to narrowly escape the downpour and take a few more portraits on the beautiful porches of Merrimon Wynne. Unfortunately, the rain was torrential and the head table was soaked, but ALL our vendors worked tirelessly and there was little sign that that there had been any rain at all.

We danced the night away and cherished the rare occasion to have all of the most precious people in our lives all in one place. The next day we both agreed there was absolutely nothing we would change about the day, even the rain!

DIY Sugared Fruit Holiday Cake

Cake decorating doesn’t have to be fussy or difficult. Today Kelly Perry from Philosophy Flowers is sharing a sugared fruit DIY that takes a simple layered cake and makes it holiday party worthy in a few easy steps. Check out all the pretty imagery from Heather Payne Photography in the full gallery! And for more baking tid bits, check out a tutorial on how to frost the perfect cake.

From Kelly of Philosophy Flowers… This colorful DIY cake tutorial takes simple household ingredients and elevates them to holiday worthy status in five easy steps!  Hostesses can test this idea on a smaller scale for an intimate gathering or go big for an upcoming holiday party.

Materials

Fruit
Egg Whites
Pastry Brush
Skewer (optional)
Sugar
Spoon
Toothpicks

instructions

step-1Crack egg, discarding yoke.

step-2Brush fruit with an even coat of egg white Sprinkle sugar over fruit.

step-3If you have the luxury of an extra set of hands, consider spearing the fruit with a skewer and have one person sprinkle and one person rotate the fruit. This makes for a more even sugar coat.

step-4Allow to dry and harden.

step-5 Arrange on cake, using toothpicks for support if needed.

Tips: When shopping for fruit, notice pieces with interesting color variations and avoid blemishes. Consider the size of the fruit in relation to the size of cake you are decorating. Consider how the fruit will sit on the cake and where it will sit. Also note that when sugar is applied the color will lighten a little, so choose colors a shade or two darker than the shade you would like in your final product.

Glamorous Spring Wedding in Charlotte

What do you get when you combine a stylish bride and a very dapper Baltimore Ravens football player? One absolutely jaw-dropping glamorous wedding, overflowing with lush florals and sparkling chandeliers, all brought to life by The Graceful Host.  Lauren Rosenau Photography and Brian Bunn Films captured it all and you can soak up every stunning moment right this way.

From The Graceful Host… On a gorgeous spring afternoon, Whitley Saxton married Baltimore Ravens safety, Darian Stewart, in a beautiful, riverside ceremony in Rock Hill, South Carolina. This sweet couple met one night out in Charlotte, NC a few years ago, while both were out on the town with friends. Whitley is from the Rock Hill, South Carolina area, and although she didn’t envision an outdoor ceremony, she fell in love with the peace and tranquility of the venue Brakefield at Riverwalk. With visions of grandeur in mind, I helped Whitley design and plan for a wedding that would leave guests saying, “wow!”

When Whitley approached me to help her plan and design her spring wedding, she had a specific vision in mind – over the top elegance. And with the help of an amazing vendor team, we achieved her goal and exceeded her expectations! Our bride and groom were all about glamorous style. With centerpieces dripping in crystal, lush floral, and textured custom linens, their vision came to reality.

Melanie Edwards with New Creations Flower Company created gorgeous, ornate centerpieces dripping in crystal. The color palette was ultra-romantic with a base of ivories and pops of pale pinks against soft grey tones. We sourced highly textured linens in the grey color palette to add to the feeling of luxury, elegance, sophistication and romance. I loved the silver and grey rosette linen from Party Tables… it fit the design perfectly! Thanks to Sterling Events Group, the entire venue was draped in ivory panels and accented with blush uplighting, which transformed the reception space … and it left our bride speechless during the reveal. When I spoke to the bride and groom about the most important part of the wedding, she said (without hesitation) the party! So, we went to the number one DJ in town – Split Second Sound – to help us keep the dance party going all night long. Guests had so much fun dancing from everything from old school hip hop and R&B. With Olive Paper, we were able to design custom paper goods – from wedding invitations to place cards to a seating chart to menu cards. Everything was custom made for Whitley and Darian’s special day with their unique vision in mind. Something Classic Cafe and Catering provide an incredible meal and service to guests. Wow Factor Cakes created one of the most gorgeous wedding cakes I’ve ever seen – a beautiful ivory cake with a huge ivory sugar flower cascading down. It tasted just as delicious as it looked! The bride surprised her groom with a South Carolina Game Cocks helmet cake – the team the groom played for in College. He couldn’t wait to dive into the cake! Whitley’s wedding dress came from Nitsa’s Apparel of Charlotte and was from Victor Harper Couture. Her dress could not have been more perfect for her elegant and over the top wedding. It was such a gorgeous and timeless gown – perfect for the bride who wants the fairytale wedding day!

With the incredibly talented Lauren Rosenau Photography and amazing Brian Bunn Films along to capture the day, everything was absolutely perfect! Lauren Rosenau and team captured the incredible personalities of the bride and groom. Her photos evoke the emotion of the wedding day, and tell the story of the day. I can feel this sweet bride laughing and loving life through each photo.

Romantic Asheville Wedding at Grove Park Inn

From The Bride… We both started our careers at the same company in different locations and were traveling for work at the time our paths crossed a little over four years ago. We met at training in Cleveland through our mutual friend, Cari, and knew right away we were destined to meet.

Although I lived in Tampa and John lived in Charlotte, we both had clients in Atlanta and our friendship quickly blossomed into a relationship since we traveled there frequently. At first, our long distance relationship included several trips to Atlanta, Charlotte, New Jersey, Tampa and London (where we fell in love), and also involved meeting each other’s’ friends and families. After we talked about getting more serious, John took a chance and moved to Tampa. With the type of job he had, he was able to transfer pretty quickly and seamlessly. We settled into life in Tampa, bought a house, and adopted our dog (Mia) to keep our cat (Norah) company.

During Christmas of 2012, John took me to his home in Charlotte for the holiday. Little did I know, he was planning an unforgettable trip to Asheville, North Carolina, where he would ask for my hand in marriage. As John knew of my love for horses, he planned a trail ride, only for it to get cancelled last minute. John did not let this affect his plan, as he arranged for a carriage ride through the Biltmore Estate property. The carriage driver, who was in on the plan, dropped us off on a ridge overlooking the Biltmore Mansion where John asked me to be his wife.

Our wedding… We wanted a destination wedding, but one that was affordable and easy for our friends and families to travel to. Since most of my family is from New Jersey and a lot of our friends live in Florida, we thought North Carolina would be the perfect place that is in between both locations. We chose Asheville because we got engaged there and fell in love with the awesome town. We always heard great things about the Omni Grove Park Inn but never visited it until after we selected it as our venue. Walking onto the property, we were blown away by the amazing views and incredible historic inn (the pictures online did not do it justice!), and we knew we had made the right choice for our wedding. We had an amazing coordinator who made the whole planning process easy and made our special day the most incredible ever. We really wanted the ceremony to be personal so we had one of our best friends marry us and we wrote our own vows which we loved. We had the most amazing band who kept people on their feet all night (and even begging for an encore)! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding weekend with all our friends and family!

Nautical Bald Head Island Wedding Inspiration

I’ve not yet had the chance to visit Bald Head Island. But after being entranced by this magical shoot from Rachel Red Photography and Kickstand Events, I’m thinking that adding it this secluded destination to my travel wish list might be a good idea. A bit of romance, glitz and glam fits so well with the pristine beachy backdrop of the Bald Head Island Club. Explore the gallery for even more!

Colors
Styles
Vintage

From Rachel Red Photography…Some of the best wedding vendors in the Wilmington area collaborated on a romantic, fine art inspired shoot for Bald Head Island Club and their potential clients. The colors were picked directly from the decor at the Club. We went with a slightly bohemian hairstyle with braids for the bride and bridesmaid to keep things casual for the Bald Head Island feel. One of my favorite things about the island is that it is a golf cart only island. There are no cars allowed. It was important that we took a few photos with the Rolls Royce golf cart that can be rented for the wedding day instead of a getaway car. A vintage engagement ring and blueberry accents were among some of the favorite details. Jaimie designed the look with the help of Rachel Red Photography. Jaimie was also the bride model in the photos!

Romantic North Carolina Mountain Wedding at Hawkesdene House

Outdoorsy yet elegant, stylish yet sentimental this pretty little fête snapped up by Perry Vaile is a wonderful balance of all the little things we love about signing into SMP every day. With a gorgeous neutral palette that compliments the stunning mountain scenery, one smiling-inducing couple (and their super cute pup), and a few lamas thrown in for good measure – this gallery is a certified winner.

From Perry Vaile PhotographyKai and Josh choose the picturesque town of Andrews deep in the mountains of North Carolina to celebrate their wedding day. Hawkesdene provided an idyllic backdrop for their outdoor vows – and the lamas were an added bonus! The couple are both nurses by trade, but Kai is also an inspiring yoga instructor and Josh is an avid climber! The couple’s sweet dog Kora was a rescue and has become a part of their family – she was given the privilege of being a part of all the festivities and did her best to steal the show whenever she could!

Emerald + Gold Wedding Inspiration at The Merrimon-Wynne House

As much as I’m a summer wedding gal and can’t imagine getting hitched any other season, I love attending fall and winter weddings. And after seeing this charming shoot at The Merriman-Wynne House, I’m feeling quite cozy envisioning myself walking over crunchy fall leaves into this beautiful historic home, greeted by this friendly guy and a ribbon-wrapped brew. See the rest of this golden emerald inspiration in the gallery from Rebecca Ames.

From One & Only Custom StationeryWe drew so much inspiration from the beautiful architecture of the Merrimon-Wynne House that we decided to stage an evening, candlelit affair that was filled with lush florals and one of a kind touches throughout. Our favorite thing about the house is that while it is a historical landmark, it also feels light and modern. Everywhere you look there is a special detail, and beautiful craftsmanship that you just can’t find anywhere else. We wanted our shoot to feel the same way – beautiful from a distance, and when you look closer you see special touches, exquisite materials and impeccable craftsmanship. This was what we kept in mind as we created the stationery and signage for the shoot. We wanted each shot to warrant a closer look.

We worked with Anna from Simply Elegant Floral Designs, and she created pieces that complimented the beautiful architecture of the home. She was especially inspired by the blue arched doors, and created a greenery piece to accentuate the curvature without overpowering the doors.

Dark, saturated romance was at the forefront of our minds for this shoot, as we contrasted the light beauty of the home with rich emeralds, golds, and blushes. All of our stationery featured a unique material or printing process – from the hand torn programs featuring cloth covers stamped with a gold monogram, to the hand dyed save the dates, and the completely hand written, dip dyed menus.

The invitations were presented as a scroll tied with ribbon in a blush lined box. We sprinkled even more special details throughout the shoot, such as the customized, wrapped drink bottles decorated with flowers, the monogrammed coasters, the paper cut cake topper, and the hand dyed calligraphy wedding certificate. One of our favorite features of the night was the stairway display. Anna covered each step in candles and florals, capping it off with a greenery piece at the foot of the stairs. It was a stunning welcome as you walked through the doors, and gave off the most romantic glow.
