Classic Summer Southern Wedding Film

You know what we all need on a weekly basis? A classic Southern wedding, full of sweet kisses,
adorable charm and good old-fashioned fun, and Light Cannon Films so described this Wilmington wedding as just that. They captured it all, as these cuties said “I do” in a gorgeous basilica and danced the night away at 128 South. So here’s your dose of Southern love for the week and I promise it’s a good one!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/139583974 600 338]

From Light Cannon Films… The wedding day started out in a cottage on a quiet cobblestone street, where the only sounds that could be heard were the laughter of the bridesmaids and the clinking of their tea cups. In a whirlwind, a classic white limo whisked everyone away to a majestic basilica, where the high ceilings echoed Olivia and Henry’s emotional vows. And in Act III, we found ourselves on a lively trolley, exploring the town with the wedding party and dancing the hot August night away.

Everything about this wedding epitomized Southern tradition: historic charm, breathtaking grandeur, and good, old-fashioned fun.

Watching this film will make you wish for summertime and long days, and it will make you fall in love with the Johnsons, the classiest couple you could dream up. Their genuine kindness, intellect, and timeless looks will take them to the top. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.

Charming French Estate Wedding Inspiration

If you dream of a charming soiree in France, but you’re stateside, this bit of beauty is for you friend. It’s got all of the old-world charm you need but just so happens to be set at North Carolina’s Graylyn Estate. Yes, believe it! And you can thank Emily Claire Events for dreaming it all up. From the oh-me-oh-my florals by Philosophy Flowers to the ribbon-adorned cake by Sugar EuphoriaJake and Heather captured it all—more lives in THE VAULT.

From Emily Claire EventsThe Loire Valley is full of castles, mist, and a magical feeling. That feeling led to the idea of designing a French inspired editorial back home in the states.

After a trip through France, Emily wanted her brides to be able to experience their dream European wedding without having to travel half way across the world. She knew the Graylyn Estate in North Carolina would be the perfect venue! It has an old world charm that is rare in this part of the country.

The Graylyn Estate features beautiful stonework reminiscent of the Medieval French castles. The warm tones of the stone play perfectly with the grays and blues of the hand-dyed silk ribbon and linens. The foraged florals add an organic quality, while the lace in the brides vintage style gown brings just the right amount of refinement.

Emily loved the contrast of using organic and vintage details against the elegant Estate backdrop. She hoped it would exude the French style she was so inspired by.

Elegant + Neutral Wilmington Wedding

This Bride. She glows. Wrapped in lace and her rich locks in a low loose bun, it makes me want to get dressed up for my wedding day all over again. Every single snap of this day from Ashley Bosnick does, including the cozy candlelit reception at 128 South. Thankfully, THE VAULT gallery is at my fingertips so I can click my way through every bit.

From The Bride…I wasn’t really ever the one who thought about her wedding day since she was a little girl, but when my family took me to Italy for my 16th birthday I absolutely fell in love. When Chris proposed a few years later I knew I wanted that simple, yet romantic Italian country side feeling for my wedding day. I was so blessed to be able to get married in the same church that my parents and grandparents had gotten married in years before me, and 128 South right down the street was the perfect place for our reception. It had that perfect exposed brick, warm and romantic Italian feel we were looking for and Design Perfection did a wonderful job bringing my vision to life with my favorite peach Juliet roses and beautiful lush greenery surrounded by hundreds of romantic candles. I may be biased but it was the most beautiful and fun wedding I have ever been to! I pictured myself wearing something completely different on my wedding day but when I found my dress I just knew my grandpa, who passed away not long before the wedding, would’ve loved it and that was so important to me. I am so thankful for my parents who did so much and made our perfect day possible. Our wedding day, surrounded by our closest friends and family, was easily the best day of my life to date. I am beyond lucky to have found the one who will forever be my always and to have married my soulmate. I believe God thought of me when he made Chris, we are absolutely meant to be. We look forward to many more adventures together and can’t wait to see what the future has to hold.

Marriage Matters: A Surprise Anniversary Session

There’s happily ever after, and then there’s the happily ever after that these two sweeties share.  A union so incredibly awesome, it calls for a surprise anniversary session, complete with beautiful florals and traditional Indian attire.  All captured in breathtaking images by Casey Rose Photography, this is a celebration of marriage that reminds us that LOVE is what it’s all about.  Head to THE VAULT to soak in every inspiring moment, then share your very own fairytale using #SMPShareYourStory.

From Casey Rose Photography… Natalie wanted to surprise Raj with a romantic garden photography session to celebrate their two-year anniversary. She told him what to wear – but otherwise – he was not in on the details. We even photographed a First-Glimpse. It brought back all the memories of their wedding day when he saw her for the first time, dressed in a soft lace dress and wearing the same accessories from her wedding day. It’s exactly why anniversary sessions are so lovely. They absolutely bring back the romance!

After a champagne toast, Natalie and Raj changed into traditional Indian outfits. Natalie’s dress was gifted to her by Raj’s family on their wedding day so it holds special meaning to them both.

Traditional Carolina Inn Wedding

Traditional weddings make my heart happy.  And thanks to the talents at Erin McLean Events, this sweet Carolina Inn affair is dripping with some of the most beautiful details you will ever see.  Think romantic florals from Tre Bella, a gorgeous cake from Ashley Cakes and rich golden hues filling an entire ballroom with pretty.  See it all captured expertly by Nancy Ray Photography in THE VAULT right this way.

From Erin McLean Events… Kate + Michael’s summer wedding was inspired by the first place the two met – during their days at Wake Forest University. Kate wanted her wedding day to pay tribute to their Alma Mater – the place that brought them together – so she chose the magnolia leaf as her inspiration which is the school’s flower symbol. From their stunning invitation suite lined with magnolia accents to the greenery draped from their gold chiavari chairs at the head table – their wedding day was filled with notes of the couple’s beginning.

Their wedding day was filled with late summer sunshine and was a perfect reflection on this sweet couple. Surrounded by their closest loved ones, the couple said “I do” in the picturesque walls of The Chapel of the Cross and celebrated the night away in a ballroom filled with sparkle and laughter.

When classic meets industrial, beautiful things happen.  Beautiful things like lush florals from Tre Bella, chic stylings from A Southern Soiree and a seriously yummy cake from Ashley Cakes. Now add in a crazy cool Bay 7 locale, gorgeous captures from Brandon Lata and a bride + groom who really know how to dance the night away and it’s a whole lot of fabulous sitting pretty in THE VAULT right this way.

And stay awhile for the fabulous film from Oak City Films below…

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/134907290 600 338]

From A Southern Soiree… Meeting and falling in love in North Carolina made Durham an easy choice of location for Elizabeth and Andrew to say “I do” this past May! Since they were both born and raised in North Carolina, it was important to them to gather their closest family and friends together in the state they love to share in their joy and excitement as they became husband and wife.

First Presbyterian and Bay 7 in Durham proved to be the perfect setting to bring Elizabeth and Andrew’s intimate summer garden inspired wedding to life. Soft peaches and corals accented with neutrals and gold created an elegant palette for a perfectly magical evening! Thoughtful, handwritten notes from the Bride and Groom were set on each table next to the oh-so-cute table numbers made from North Carolina state cut-outs. Guests were surrounded by beautiful blooms, hanging votives and farm tables as they enjoyed a delicious meal by Angus Barn and danced the night away to the amazing sounds of Six Stylez.

Elizabeth and Andrew said goodbye to family and friends and made their way through a sea of sparklers before they headed out as Mr. and Mrs. in a vintage Rolls Royce!

Destroyed Venue Led to Amazing Autumn Wedding

There’s nothing quite like the building excitement in the days before your wedding. But when this couple’s venue caught fire THREE WEEKS before their special day, fear and panic set in big time. And despite all odds, their friends, family, photographer Perry Vaile, and the amazing folks at Omni Grove Park Inn, made magic happen. They ended up with a wedding you’d never guess was pulled together and The Vault has the the photos that prove sometimes “Plan B” is even better.

From the Bride… Whew – where to start! I am Australian and my (new!) husband Sam is American. We’d been dating for about six years with four of those years spent with each of us in our respectful home countries. Handwritten letters, flights back and forth and countless numbers of hours spent on Skype kept us together. After years of many tears, too many goodbyes and me finishing college, our love story still going strong, we decided it was time to put ourselves in the same location. So, I begun the process of trying to move to the USA. This in itself was no easy task! Many people asked “Why don’t you guys just get married!” But, it just didn’t feel right! We knew we would get married one day, but we didn’t want a Visa to make it happen.

I eventually was offered an employment opportunity, and moved to the US! Eight months later, Sam surprised me on Christmas morning with a ski trip to Vail, Colorado. We left that morning and unbeknownst to me, he still wasn’t done with the surprises! On day two, we went to the top of the mountain so we could check out the views of the village. Sam had all the staff at the top of the mountain on his side. They took us on snow mobiles to a secluded little pergola where they had set up champagne, candles and a camera! When I turned around he was on one knee!

We didn’t want to rush the wedding planning process, we knew it was going to be an incredible feat to have all my family and friends arrange to come to the US for it. We gave ourselves 18 months to do it and I’m glad we did – it gave me time to really think about how I wanted our wedding to be. My best friend designed our invites which I cut and put together myself and then hand calligraphed each guests’ address onto in finetic gold ink. I crafted a lot of tea light candle holders to use as romantic decorations. While it took time, all the personal touches really made it feel like “our day.”

A month to go and everything was essentially set. My family was arriving two weeks prior to the day and we couldn’t be more excited that everything was falling into place! Three weeks before our big day, I woke up and checked my e-mail. There was one from my cake designer which said “Kaoma – I wanted to let you know in case you don’t already, there was a fire at your wedding venue last night. Let me know if I can do anything.” I was thinking “No way – she must have the wrong place!” so I frantically typed it into Google, and there it was, a news story and pictures of our wedding venue that we chose 16 months ago and absolutely adored, up in flames.

Sam is a medic and a fireman and was working a shift at the time, I called him immediately; he’s always good in these situations! He called the fire chief of the local department where our venue was, who told us, he was sorry but that “a team of 100 men couldn’t put that place back together in time for your wedding in three weeks.

We were going to be getting married in the mountains, a hugely popular wedding destination which is why we booked our venue so far in advance. We couldn’t believe what was happening. The thought of calling it off didn’t even cross our minds, our friends and family were FLYING IN just for this! We called everyone we knew in that area or who had friends in that area. Everyone immediately swung into action to find us a new venue!

Along with all of our other vendors, we called our photographer, Perry Vaile, to let her know the situation. She said “I got this!” She called around, including the Grove Park Inn. Thinking it was probably a waste of time because we thought that there would be no way the Grove Park has availability in the fall. Well, the stars all aligned. Erin Pangerl, the event coordinator at the time, informed us they had an opening at the country club for our day and that she wanted to help us in any way she possibly could! We signed the contract two days later and oh my goodness, we were getting married at the Grove Park Inn!

My family arrived and wedding festivities began. It was not only the best day ever, but the best three weeks ever! I don’t think there will ever be a time when both mine and Sam’s family is in the same place at the same time!

Despite rain leading up to and on the day of, it held off for the entire length of our wedding! Perry Vaile captured our day beautifully and we couldn’t be more thankful to our family, friends and amazing vendors who moved mountains to make our big day so incredible!

Elegant Blush Pink Duke Gardens Wedding

Oh, to be a guest at this wedding. To stroll through the beautiful Sarah P. Duke Gardens, to sip on Georgia Peach cocktails, and to enjoy a darling welcome bag stuffed with locally sourced goodies. And as if that weren’t enough, I’d be in the presence of Erin McLean Events’ design work and dance the night away thanks to Bunn DJ. It all adds up to a Southern wedding done right, and Callie Davis of Nancy Ray Photography and Twenty One Films captured every pretty bit. More in The Vault!

Elegant Fearrington Village Barn Wedding

What’s better than one beautiful bride you ask? Well, two of course! Floating around in flowy sweetheart dresses, happily committing their forevers to each other and stealing kisses in front of Fearrington Village‘s glowing barn. Graham Terhune has built a charming gallery for us in THE VAULT and we’re betting you’ll feel the love radiating from it too.

Colors
Styles
Rustic

From the Brides…We chose Chapel Hill, North Carolina for our big day. Xan grew up in the area and could not think of a more special place to get married than Fearrington. It was the perfect venue for us and matched our style completely, from the rustic feel of the barn to the beautiful Gardens that were the backdrop to our Ceremony, and the modern touches we were able to add with decor. We live in Austin, so we were able to meet with Gilda McDaniel in person in December for three hours and plan most of the wedding. Being out-of-state, it was such a relief to know that the Food, Drink, Cake, and Flowers were all in-house and that we could trust Fearrington’s reputation of exceptional food, great service and elegant but comfortable style.

And they did an amazing job. We wanted everything to feel simple but beautiful. We didn’t particularly have “colors” to work with for two reasons. One, because we each asked our older brothers to be our Best Men instead of traditional bridesmaids. Two, because we had no idea what each others dresses looked like or what colors were involved. We depended on our moms and few friends to tell us if our choices went well together. And on the wedding day, it was amazing to see how perfect our dress colors went with each other and the rest of the day! We decided the boys should wear a light grey suit with brown shoes. And the rest of our colors should be light, neutral colors like white, grey, light pink, and light yellow. A last minute decision was to incorporate some succulents into our floral arrangements, which we think gave our North Carolina wedding a “Texas” touch. Plus it was fun to have pops of color from the succulents! Since the barn is this unbelievably elegant yet rustic space, we decided to keep all our details a little more modern. Most of our escort cards, place cards, and table numbers were off white or light grey. We also thought it would be fun to add a small floral element to each place setting and Mary from Fearrington did such a great job tying that in! One of the most fun parts about planning the wedding was coming up with the table names. We decided to go with restaurant names of some of our favorite places throughout the country including the restaurant we first met at and local favorites from our college towns (Charlottesville, Nashville, and Chapel Hill). Our guests seemed to have fun seeing where they were placed, most of the them having been to that spot.

The wedding day was spectacular, we each had a quick brunch with a few girlfriends before we got ready in separate rooms. About half way through makeup, we experienced a massive thunderstorm and down pour of rain! Luckily, the radar said it was moving through fast and before we knew it blue skies were back and the rain had cooled off what would have been a typical 90 degree summer day in Chapel Hill. We changed our ceremony site the day before when we saw our parents scheming in the corner while we rehearsed our vows in the blazing sun with no shade in site. Gilda, the Fearrington wedding planner, took us over to possibly the most gorgeous site that had plenty of shade, beautiful crab trees, and the most amazing backdrop you could ask for. The garden behind us was breathtaking and I can’t believe we didn’t consider this spot sooner. Our ceremony was short but sweet and afterwards we gathered in the Garden House to greet family and friends and take a few formal photos. The cocktail hour was highlighted by our signature drink, the Texas Mule. A Texas mule is a typical Moscow mule instead featuring Tito’s vodka, handmade in Texas. We think the drink turned out to be a real hit as we ran out of mix before the end of the night :) The cocktail hour was followed by dinner and dancing in the Barn. We snuck out with our photographers during dinner to have a moment together and catch the sunset light. It was fun and really special to have that time together to reflect on everything that was happening and share our experience so far together. We were joined by the iconic Beltie Fearrington cows in the background. After dancing, we refueled our guests with sliders and fries before our sparkler exit. The sparkler exit beautifully lit up the outdoor space in front of the Barn and ended the night perfectly.

All in all, we couldn’t be happier with how the day went and the look and feel of the wedding. Believe it or not, a ton of planning was not done on our side. But the staff at Fearrington captured exactly what we envisioned and we feel it matched our personalities to a tee. The spaces at Fearrington are so beautiful, you really just need to add a few personal touches to make it our own, like the modern decor, the rustic farm tables, scattered succulents throughout the floral arrangements, and of course, the delicious Texas Mules.

Relaxed + Elegant Seaside Anniversary Session

As a newlywed, it’s hard to imagine celebrating our five year, 10 year or even one year anniversary – our wedding is still so fresh in my mind. But coming upon a shoot like this makes me excited for the future, for all the joy ahead. These cuties toasted to three years of wedded bliss and to their first year as new parents and they make it look absolutely amazing. Faith Teasley followed them along the Outer Banks and her pics are the best advertisement for a perfect pairing. See them all in our VAULT right here!

From Cate… Kilian and I love to spend time by the water, and one of our favorite places is the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We both have fond memories of spending summers there as children and during our dating years. This year’s trip was very special because we got to begin making memories there as our own little family – we brought our 8-month old son Jack to the beach for the first time. The anniversary session was perfect timing to celebrate not only our first family vacation but also our belated 3rd year wedding anniversary and getting close to surviving our first year as new parents!

I didn’t set out to have such a fancy photo session but I fell in love with the Allison Parris dress from Rent the Runway – the light blue-green tulle reminded me of the Carolina coast. From there, a champagne toast seemed like the next logical step! The basket was from the picnic lunch where Kilian proposed, the vintage champagne coupes were my grandparent’s, and the cocktail napkins were saved from our wedding reception. We had so much fun exploring the 4×4 beaches and searching for wild horses with Faith and her mom. We are so grateful to both of those lovely ladies as well as Liz and Ryan and their Amazing Life Together project for having the opportunity to get dressed up and add a little romance into our new parent lives!

Blowing Rock, North Carolina Mountain Town Wedding

A couple years back my hubby and I visited the little mountain town where this wedding takes place, and it’s the ultimate combo of scenery and charm. The kind of place that’s just tucked away enough to feel like a hidden gem, and certainly a cozy spot to say “I do.” Luckily this sweet couple felt the same and brought along great vendors like Philosophy Flowers to make it happen. Our friends at Almond Leaf Studios snapped it all waiting for you inside THE VAULT.

From The Bride…Hayes and I crossed paths one evening at both of our favorite, local restaurant in Greenville, Chicora Alley. We had a few mutual friends but Hayes mustered up the nerve to approach me and begin the conversation. He got my number and even though it took a week for him to call me, he did, and our relationship took root quickly!

The planning process was stressful at times but we’re both also pretty laid back in nature so we were able to make decisions and move on to the next item. We were lucky to work with such wonderful vendors who were incredibly talented and so creative!

Our ceremony felt like a dream and was everything we could’ve hoped for. The weather was absolutely perfect with clear skies. The venue was set on a green lawn lined by cypress trees and breathtaking mountains in the background. The flowers were soft, neutrals with so much depth that matched the romantic, rustic feel. Our music for the ceremony was made up of a violinist and guitarist that played ‘Sea of Love’ as I walked down the aisle. The ceremony was full of so much joy and love. The reception took place at Blowing Rock Country Club that offered gorgeous mountain views and warmth. The band was full of energy and had everyone dancing and having an incredible time.

One word to describe the day is inspirational. It was the most important day of our lives and the moment when I locked eyes with my husband was incredibly inspirational. The day was gorgeous and everything moved seamlessly. We were surrounded by those in our lives who love us the most and it was inspiring to experience this support of our lives coming together.

From Faith TeasleyIf there’s one word that sums up Andrea and Rob’s wedding day it would be: joy-filled. Andrea and Rob have such a sweet love for each other! One of my favorite moments of the day was when Rob saw his beautiful bride for the first time – she took his breath away. The gray and yellow inspired attire and decor reflected Andrea and Rob’s joyful personalities perfectly. The Ballantyne Hotel in Charlotte provided a gorgeous backdrop for the wedding ceremony, and the Myers Park Country Club was a wonderful place for the reception. All in all, it was an amazing day!

From The BiltmoreLauren and Tyler were wed at Diana on Biltmore Estate, on August 8th, 2015. Their lovely ceremony took place outdoors, with their reception space nearby. Realities Photography perfectly captured the soft elegance of their beautiful day.

From Asheville Event Co.… Lauren & Tyler envisioned a day of grace, love and chic beauty for their wedding. Nestled in the mountains of Asheville, NC on a clear August evening, Lauren & Tyler said “I do” overlooking the gracious lawns & spectacular house of the Biltmore Estate.

Upon being announced Mr. & Mrs. the couple was surprised with a shower of petals…the look on their faces was pure joy!

Classical string music drifted through the air as guests sipped on champagne and enjoyed the beauty of their surroundings. As guests were being served a gorgeous dinner of lobster, steak and locally grown vegetables, the newlyweds snuck off for pictures as the sun set behind the Biltmore House.

After the cake was cut, Laurens father asked the guests to join him for a special treat for Lauren & Tyler. Incredible fireworks on the front lawn on the house…guests were thrilled with the beautiful show!

A special dance shared by the bride & her brother led off the night of dancing, singing and fun! The night ended with Tyler whisking his bride away in a gorgeous BMW. Cheers Lauren & Tyler….to many many years of love!!

Classic Black-Tie North Carolina Coast Wedding

This wedding looks straight out of a movie. The abundance of peonies, roses and hydrangeas paired with the Bride’s gorgeous Anne Barge ballgown and the pretty pink Jenny Yoo bridesmaids’ dresses create the kind of wedding every little girl dreams of. And the historic feel of Bakery 105 and beautiful photos from Theo Milo Photography are the perfect finishing touches. Fall in love in THE VAULT!

From Theo Milo PhotographyA lovely couple who currently lives in NYC. They have great style and incorporated a ton of florals into their wedding. The venue is in historic downtown Wilmington NC (see more about it in her description). There is a video as well!

From The Bride…When my husband, Mike, and I got engaged, we knew we wanted to have our wedding in the Carolinas. While we were both from the Northeast and lived in NYC, North Carolina was where we had fell in love. We met at Wake Forest University and spent a few years living together in Charlotte, NC before moving to NYC. My parents had recently retired and moved to Wilmington, NC and we spent a weekend looking at wedding venues around the historic, riverfront town. We both fell in love with Bakery 105 as soon as we saw it, and knew it was the perfect place for our special day. Since the venue was an old warehouse, it had gorgeous exposed brick and beamed ceilings, plus a perfect outdoor courtyard that used to be the old loading dock. We decorated the outdoor courtyard with a gorgeous floral arbor for our ceremony and also had our cocktail hour in the same location. Later, the party seamlessly transitioned to the indoor reception that was decorated with long farm tables that had floral garlands and lush centerpieces filled with white and blush garden roses, accented with greenery. Our wedding designer, Design Perfection, also built gorgeous planters that were filled with lush greenery and matched our bar. The reception was completed with edison bulbs and more greenery hanging over the dance floor and bar area.

I truly loved how I felt the day of our wedding, I wore a gorgeous Anne Barge bridal gown. I only went to one store and tried on about 5 dresses before finding “the one.” It had intricate lace detail along the bottom and sweetheart neckline, as well as a dramatic train. I wore BHLDN earrings and a crystal Jcrew hair pin to add a little sparkle to the look. I also carried a blue-rimmed handkerchief that my great-grandmother had sewn to blot away any tears throughout the day and had my late grandmother’s broach clipped into my bridal bouquet. My husband wore a very classic Zegna tuxedo and my bridesmaids wore stunning blush Jenny Yoo gowns that perfectly matched our decor. My goal was to find dresses that were pink, but not “too pink” and I was so happy with how beautiful the girls looked in their dresses.

For my husband and me, the most important part of our wedding was making sure we and our guests had a fantastic time! We kicked the weekend off with welcome drinks and ended the weekend with a beautiful brunch at my parents’ home. Everyone told us they had such a fun time and the dance floor was full the entire night, with our 10 piece band playing a perfect mix of Motown and Top 40, with just a little bit of country in the mix. We had a wonderful time dancing the night away with our family and closest friends and couldn’t imagine a better celebration of our marriage.

Blogger Bride Saffron Avenue’s Urban Garden Party Wedding

When one of our very own Blogger Brides gets married we kinda lose our cool. Rightly so, because when said Bride is Angela of Saffron Avenue, you better bet every. darn. detail. is DIY goodness. And if you thought her tips were the only take home, get ready because her wedding captured by Eric Boneske is ah-mazing [inserts heart emojis here]. It’s the ultimate grand finale complete with Salt Harbor Designs that we’re grateful to share in THE VAULT, and you can peek all the pretty below!

From Angela of Saffron Avenue Kiley and I met in college and dated for almost 8 years before he proposed. During a portion of that time I had moved to Wilmington, North Carolina for a couple years to pursue my wedding planning and design career. The first time I explored my new home in downtown Wilmington I discovered The Atrium by Ligon Flynn and I absolutely fell in love! From that point forward, I told myself that no matter what happens I will get married there. Fast forward 3 years and that moment has finally come as we were about to plan our little North Carolina wedding.

The best part of the planning process was that I’ve been waiting for this moment for years, as I’m sure most brides have been. I was actually a wedding planner (which was my dream job since I was 13) prior to starting my graphic design company. Not only that, but a friend and I even created a company that specialized in wedding and event branding. So it was no secret that my love of weddings, paper, and design has always been a part of my life. To say I was excited to plan our wedding was an understatement…because really I’ve been planning it for years.

I am a very budget friendly and DIY type of person and I knew our wedding would reflect that. After booking the venue I wanted to blend that urban garden party feel that The Atrium has with my love of Mid-Century Modern. With our smaller budget I was able to splurge and save on certain items. I splurged on the five farm tables, but used the benches from the ceremony for seating. I also borrowed a couple Eames chairs from a friend, sewn my own palm print pillows, and made my own gold urchin/sputniks for decor. And since our wedding was so small we didn’t have a DJ or a wedding cake, which saved us a lot of money. Instead we played our own music and a couple girlfriends and I made banana bread in mason jars for dessert.

Naturally, I wanted to create my own wedding invites and paper pieces. Once I created the color palette and logo I designed our wedding website to really set the tone for our guests. From that point forward each piece blended perfectly. From the pale blush tones and watercolor palm leaves to the mid-century modern elements and custom calligraphy, it all blended perfectly into our style. During the design process I wanted to make sure that the wedding reflected the both of us. Because Kiley has a love of competition and games I made gold darts for our name cards as well as a custom crossword puzzle for our guests, which they filled out with DIY gold dipped feather pens (to play into the style of my wedding dress).

To save on the table design we decided to use various white vases with different leaves and greenery. Salt Harbor designs executed it perfectly and brought my vision to life. For the our flowers and bouquets I used FlowerMuse and ordered a couple bunches of my favorite tulips. The morning of our wedding my bridesmaids and I all created our bouquets, not only was it budget friendly but also fun and therapeutic.

For my dress I knew I wanted something different and a bit out of the norm. It was either going to have a plunging neckline, a unique print/pattern, or plenty of sparkle. I never found ‘the one’ but I really couldn’t be happier with my decision. I chose a dress with a beautiful low back, amazing beadwork, and plenty of little feathers! The best part is that the dress in the bridal shop was $4,000 and was able to find it pre-owned online for a portion of the cost!

Besides a bit of rain on us during the ceremony (and a music glitch) it was absolutely perfect. From the sun shining, the food, the laughter, and the love…it felt so magical. Although we waited quite a while before we got married, I am so happy we did. It was because we waited we were able to have the wedding I always envisioned, in the location I’ve had my eye on for years. I definitely wouldn’t change a thing and only wish I could do it all over again, year after year!
