Traditional + Elegant Outdoor Biltmore Estate Wedding

If you’re looking for endless pretty to peek, look no further. Because when you marry the glamour of the Biltmore with the hands of Asheville Event Co., you’re guaranteed a wedding day goldmine. Take our word for it, but if you have any doubt that our assertion is correct, we charge you with peeking at Realities Photography, Jill Schwarzkopf captures in THE VAULT and then try to suggest otherwise!

From The BiltmoreLauren and Tyler were wed at Diana on Biltmore Estate, on August 8th, 2015. Their lovely ceremony took place outdoors, with their reception space nearby. Realities Photography perfectly captured the soft elegance of their beautiful day.

From Asheville Event Co.… Lauren & Tyler envisioned a day of grace, love and chic beauty for their wedding. Nestled in the mountains of Asheville, NC on a clear August evening, Lauren & Tyler said “I do” overlooking the gracious lawns & spectacular house of the Biltmore Estate.

Upon being announced Mr. & Mrs. the couple was surprised with a shower of petals…the look on their faces was pure joy!

Classical string music drifted through the air as guests sipped on champagne and enjoyed the beauty of their surroundings. As guests were being served a gorgeous dinner of lobster, steak and locally grown vegetables, the newlyweds snuck off for pictures as the sun set behind the Biltmore House.

After the cake was cut, Laurens father asked the guests to join him for a special treat for Lauren & Tyler. Incredible fireworks on the front lawn on the house…guests were thrilled with the beautiful show!

A special dance shared by the bride & her brother led off the night of dancing, singing and fun! The night ended with Tyler whisking his bride away in a gorgeous BMW. Cheers Lauren & Tyler….to many many years of love!!

A Fairytale Come True Wedding at The Biltmore Estate

Every little girl dreams of a fairytale life, complete with a Prince Charming and Happily Ever After. For this gorgeous Bride, her dream came true when she married her handsome Groom at the magnificent Biltmore Estate. And, Life Stage Films captured the gorgeous day, coordinated by Weddings With Tara, in a film that’s safe to say rivals any Disney fairytale.

From the Bride… We both didn’t really have a specific vision prior to planning our wedding. We had been together for 6 years before we got engaged so I had thought about it some and he did as well but the details really came together once we started planning. The only things that we knew we wanted prior to planning was our venue and that we wanted to make it classy and elegant.

We were going for a classic style and neutral color palate. We both love blue so we used that as an accent color but we predominantly used creams, whites and golds.

I am a very big crafter so I wanted to craft a lot of items for the wedding. Where to begin! For the rehearsal dinner I used wine corks as picture holders. Every place setting had a photo of either my husband or me with the guest seated there from sometime in the past (many photos were of us as children). I also had a “In memory of…” table at the rehearsal dinner. I used my great grandmother’s dressing table where she used to sit to put on her makeup every morning, and on top I had my husband’s grandmother’s jewelry box, my grandmother’s jewelry box, my other great grandmother’s book that was made for her by her friends in 1927, “Helpful Hints to a Bride”; and a rose cut from my mother’s garden to top it off. At the wedding I also had a “In memory of…” wall with pictures of our parents, grandparents, great grandparents and great-great grandparents in their 20’s. I also made all the table numbers for the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. For the rehearsal dinner, I dried flowers and adhered them to a burlap canvas, and for the wedding I cross-stitched the numbers onto antique doilies. My last big project was our guest book tablecloth. I cross stitched a picture of Biltmore House in the center of it and also embroidered our names on it.

My favorite moment was just seeing everything come together. For months we had worked so hard on so many individual pieces of the wedding, and then to see all of them come together that weekend was magical. We both loved seeing how everyone from all different parts of our life had come together to celebrate us.

We had a grand vision for our floral arrangements and wanted them to be lush and elegant. Stacy with the Bloom Room went above and beyond and the outcome looked fantastic! I went with my mother to Bridal’s By Lori in Atlanta to get my gown. I had looked at some gowns on Pinterest and I wanted something with intricate details. I immediately fell in love with my dress and all of the embellishments on it and knew it would also fit the venue perfectly!  For our favors we gave out champagne bottles with a custom label on it. We chose the artwork for our label, and modified it slightly to feature out two cats, Lacey and Lou Lou. For our cake we wanted something simple and elegant to tie into our overall vision and Biltmore delivered!

The one piece of advice I have to give is the same piece of advice someone gave me before I got married: Be selfish. It sounds harsh but what they meant is to really relish in the moment of your wedding and to not be afraid to have/do something in your wedding that no one else wants to do; do it because it is what you and your future husband want to do! It is a celebration of your love, so make it what the two of you want it to be!

From Life Stage FilmsWe just could not get enough of Ryan & Rebecca’s sweet and authentic love for one another. Their wedding took place in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains at the majestic Biltmore Estate. Becca and Ryan, were the most laid back bride and groom we’ve seen. However, when it came to each other they wore their hearts on their sleeves. It was too easy to see exactly how much they loved each other. We adored all of the sincere toasts from their friends and family members at the rehearsal dinner. Becca and Ryan helped create a sparkling wine as a gift for all the guests to enjoy. The vintage wedding dress Becca wore was perfect for this fairy tale wedding. She even entered the ceremony in a horse-drawn carriage! The end of the night fireworks were simply amazing. We can’t think of a more perfect way to cap off one of the most incredible weddings we have ever captured!

Stylish Asheville Wedding with Custom Peach Wedding Gown

If it’s your big day, why not write your own rules? This Bride bucked tradition by wearing a custom peach creation from Project Runway’s Carol Hannah while her bridesmaids donned white dresses! Plus, guests participated in a unique candle exchange during the ceremony. Beautifully captured by Perry Vaile, it’s unlike any other wedding we’ve seen, and you can see it all right here.

From Perry VaileThe beautiful and bubbly Mariette is a Southern style maven, lover of Kate Spade, and has a keen eye for detail. She had her custom peach and butter wedding gown designed by Charleston based designer Carol Hannah (of Project Runway fame) and it was positively stunning. The dress stood in contrast to Mariette’s bridesmaids who were actually the ones in floor-length white dresses and floral crowns.

As New Yorkers, Mariette and her hubby-to-be Nick traveled down to Asheville to tie the knot in the impeccable Grove Park Inn, famous for its sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and its unique architecture.

Lovely details to note:

  • Mariette and Nick had a very unique ceremony! Their guests formed a winding circle around the couple during the ceremony and though it was a little windy, they participated in a beautiful candle exchange where a flame traveled through the hands of every guest arriving back at the center where the couple stood. It was a sweet and endearing ceremony set near the stone fireplace and distant mountains.
  • The bridesmaids were the ones in white! This Bride had major style points for trying something different – and it made her custom gown the crown jewel of the bridal party!
  • Mariette honored her mother at the ceremony by placing a photo of her in an empty chair at the ceremony – so beautiful!

Organic + Elegant Wedding Inspiration

Around these parts, organic elegance is a style combo that never ceases to onset a swooning-fit. So when Almond Leaf Studios sent their version, including a $54,000 ring from Wick And Greene kept safe by The Mrs. Box, we couldn’t wait to add every beautiful bit to our galleries. Incredible shoes from Emmy London, whimsical invites from Bohemian Ink and blooms from Flora Events—it’s all sooo good.

From Almond Leaf StudiosWith exposed brick as the backdrop for this indoor shoot, we wanted an elegant, whimsical feel to balance out the strength and tones of the brick. Soft elements like the velvet ring box (the Mrs Box) and loose calligraphy over subtle watercolor helped to create this romantic setting while the architectural nature of olive branches formed the perfect wall installation.

The shoes, which were flown in from London (hello Emmy London shoes!) and the super rare pink diamond from Wick and Greene jewelers (valued at over $54,000) added the perfect amount of sparkle.

Inspiration comes in all sorts of ways, and we hope that you are as inspired as we were by collaborating with such talented vendors on this shoot!

From Rebecca Rose EventsI’ve known and worked with Sara, and called her a friend for long enough to know that when she asked me to style and coordinate her wedding day, it would not only be an enormous honor, but a wonderfully fulfilling process for me as an artist as well. Each detail was purposefully chosen, created and/or styled to reflect their playful personalities and delight the senses. Justin and Sara’s only wish was that the day be full of joy and free of distraction from what mattered most – their love and commitment to each other. What’s not to love about that?!

From The Bride…Justin and I grew up in separate North Carolina towns not too far from the mountains. We knew when we got engaged that there was no other place we could promise ourselves to each other than the mountains we grew up in.

Our ceremony was small, family only, at the Old Sherrill’s Inn outside Asheville, a charming place that suited us perfectly and that Justin found through a Google search two months (to the day) before our wedding after our original venue fell through. It couldn’t have been more of a happy accident.

My favorite part of our wedding day wasn’t a moment, necessarily, though seeing all the haphazard design ideas my mom and I dreamed up come together through Becca’s hands was pretty magical. The best part was truly how present I felt all day long. I remember the vows I said, and the way husband looked at me. I spent quality time with my family and his, watching our two families become a family. I laughed, cried, and spent time with my husband. That was the best part of the day for me.

As a photographer, having amazing pictures of the two of us on our wedding day was really important to me. We were so lucky to spend almost an hour with Laura taking photos together after the ceremony. It was definitely something we had to make a priority when planning our day, but amidst the all toasting and well-wishing, it was wonderful to have some time just for us.

The extent of my love for Perry Vaile and her bursting-with-love captures stretches pretty far, and one thing is true; her couples are head over heels, over the moon in l-o-v-e, love. Case in point? From The Bride…After dating for 14 years, we agreed that we wanted our wedding to be less about us and more a celebration of our families and friends joining together. So many details made the day extra special! Eric’s cousin officiated our wedding & his father officiated our Persian ceremony the night before. I was able to wear my mother’s mantilla lace veil during our ceremony that she wore on her wedding day. I also had fabric given by my brother, father and grandfather sewn into my gown. Honoring family members that had passed was extremely important to us. We provided photos of those family members on their wedding days on a legacy table, which ended up being our favorite details. Finally, the room where we exchanged vows was important to us, as we wanted a place that felt warm, romantic and like home. The day of the wedding, it evoked those emotions times a million, with the help of our closest family and friends. Being surrounded by loving people and beautiful surroundings, it was without a single doubt the best day of our lives!

From Graham TerhuneJackson and Melisa were married on a perfect October Saturday. The sun was shining, the air was crisp and the Biltmore Estate looked stunning in the golden fall light. Melisa and Jackson’s wedding was a stunning day full of friends, family and their committed love to one another. In addition to the overall feeling of joy, the day was full of breathtaking beauty in the venue and the details. Melisa worked to craft a wedding day that was authentic and gave a special nod to her turkish ethnicity. There were Turkish rugs, a custom built Turkish prayer table for the ceremony (crafted by the groom and his father) Turkish eyes on all of the floral arrangements, turkish tea pots at each place setting. The lovely color palette of the wedding was a nice complement to the warmth of the fall hues of the mountains. The lavender and gray colors were absolutely stunning on the bridesmaids and groomsmen. We hope that you enjoy a selection of our favorite images from this wedding. We know that the bride and groom would be absolutely ecstatic to see their wedding featured and we would be humbled to have our work on your beautiful blog.

Contemporary Southern Wedding in Asheville

Crafting a marriage below the Mason-Dixon line this designer couple, captured by Matthew Moore Photography, ensured every element of ephemera was their own. From tea towels, to pillows, every detail differs from tradition in the chicest way. Kiersa Holy planned a night in the mountains filled with cocktails and local boogie-jazz. More right here!.

From The Bride..Our wedding was a curated contemporary affair with every detail designed by my husband and myself. Blending an outdoor ceremony with an indoor reception truly captured the artistic and eclectic vibe of our personalities and our host city.

Sassy Southern Soirée is the most fitting description of our September 28, 2013 wedding, deep in the throws of Autumn in Asheville, North Carolina. Instead of identifying a theme or color scheme, we purposefully chose every detail with the emotion that it would invoke. How will it make our guests feel, what will they remember, and what will they reflect on—long after the event is over. With that in mind, we thoughtfully crafted each and every element of ephemera ourselves, From the custom screen-printed save the date tea towels, to the bespoke throw pillows displaying our Southern and Swedish heritage and even a hand-painted watercolor cake topper depicting the bride and groom.

I met Joel on his first day of Grad School at Savannah College of Art and Design and we started dating about 6 months later. Over the course of our 8 years of dating (yeah – 8 years!) we got more than our fair share of questions about if we were ever going to “make it official.” I always told Joel that I didn’t need a ring on my finger to show the world that I was in love with him. But I have to admit, when he slipped a platinum set, cushion cut diamond on my finger (which he designed himself) atop a black sand beach in Hawaii, I couldn’t have been more surprised or excited to “wife up.”

Needless to say, we took a very casual approach to our wedding and with that in mind opted to do our “first look” photos at the Asheville City Hall. We had originally wanted to have the ceremony there as it is one of the foremost iconic art-deco buildings in the South. We also thought it would be a fun take on the tradition of getting married at city hall. While that didn’t work out with the city’s restrictions, it was the perfect backdrop for our most intimate photos of the day. As a municipal building, it was completely empty and quiet on a Saturday afternoon so we had total intimacy as we saw each other for the first time. Katie and Matt did an exceptional job capturing the entire day, but I was especially taken aback by how beautiful and emotional these photos are.

Next, we made our way to our modern house in the mountains for a couple of individual shots against the contemporary backdrop and clean architectural lines of the interior. These images provided a great juxtaposition to the bridal party photos we shot later at Hickory Nut Gap Farm. Throughout the day, we tried to find those beautiful dichotomies whether it was the elegant beaded bridesmaid dresses against the rugged mountain backdrop or the structured outdoor ceremony paired with a casual gallery reception, we looked for opportunities to deviate from the expected wedding traditions.

The soiree started with a sentimental and symbolic ceremony around the Johnston Pool of the North Carolina Arboretum. We chose that venue as it was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same landscape designer made famous for creating Central Park, and we felt it was a great way to pay homage to our home city of New York. One of my favorite details of the ceremony was the screen-printed handkerchief programs I designed for our guests to keep as a reminder of the momentous occasion we all shared together. The ceremony was full of love and lots of laughs as Joel and I wrote most of it ourselves with the help of our amazing officiant, Darr Conradson. The ceremony was modern and fresh as we walked down the aisle to the Coldplay song “Us Against the World” and just as Darr uttered the words, you may kiss the bride, the guests burst in to applause to the tune of “You’re My Best Friend” by Queen in the background.

The words “Mimia & Joel” spelled out in white neon greeted guests as they entered the reception at the Lift Studios, a refurbished Nabisco factory turned contemporary art gallery. We chose this venue as we are both designers (myself an art director and Joel a furniture designer) so we wanted a space that reflected our personalities and eclectic artistic styles. Another great upside to using a gallery space is that we got to support local artists with our wedding budget and not just traditional vendors.

Revelers relished in southern-fried delicacies from local food truck The Lowdown, along with artisanal cocktails, and dancing courtesy of local boogie-jazz band The Roaring Lions. We planned every detail down to the hand-stamped bamboo silverware showcasing phrases like “it’s about forking time” and “for the rest of our knives.” One thing to keep in mind when choosing a non-traditional venue such as an art gallery, there is no kitchen or even a place to wash dishes so we had to find alternatives for plates. We found these fun food boats at a restaurant supply company and I stamped them with a food safe ink stamp I had made that read “eat your heart out.” After over eight years of dating, I think our guests appreciated our tongue-and-cheek approach to our nuptials. We even had our favorite southern snack, Krispy Kreme donuts served on napkins, of course stamped as well, with the line “do-nut you know we love you.”

Our soirée came to a close with guests ripping open hand stitched confetti packets that my mom and I made together, wrapped in the words “Finally” and “Woo-Hoo” as we ran for a 1968 Cadillac convertible. One of our fondest memories of the day is riding through the star-lit streets of Asheville with strangers shouting their congratulations as we rolled through town in the vintage car. It was a magical night in the mountains celebrating a marriage made below the Mason-Dixon.

From The Bride… We both started our careers at the same company in different locations and were traveling for work at the time our paths crossed a little over four years ago. We met at training in Cleveland through our mutual friend, Cari, and knew right away we were destined to meet.

Although I lived in Tampa and John lived in Charlotte, we both had clients in Atlanta and our friendship quickly blossomed into a relationship since we traveled there frequently. At first, our long distance relationship included several trips to Atlanta, Charlotte, New Jersey, Tampa and London (where we fell in love), and also involved meeting each other’s’ friends and families. After we talked about getting more serious, John took a chance and moved to Tampa. With the type of job he had, he was able to transfer pretty quickly and seamlessly. We settled into life in Tampa, bought a house, and adopted our dog (Mia) to keep our cat (Norah) company.

During Christmas of 2012, John took me to his home in Charlotte for the holiday. Little did I know, he was planning an unforgettable trip to Asheville, North Carolina, where he would ask for my hand in marriage. As John knew of my love for horses, he planned a trail ride, only for it to get cancelled last minute. John did not let this affect his plan, as he arranged for a carriage ride through the Biltmore Estate property. The carriage driver, who was in on the plan, dropped us off on a ridge overlooking the Biltmore Mansion where John asked me to be his wife.

Our wedding… We wanted a destination wedding, but one that was affordable and easy for our friends and families to travel to. Since most of my family is from New Jersey and a lot of our friends live in Florida, we thought North Carolina would be the perfect place that is in between both locations. We chose Asheville because we got engaged there and fell in love with the awesome town. We always heard great things about the Omni Grove Park Inn but never visited it until after we selected it as our venue. Walking onto the property, we were blown away by the amazing views and incredible historic inn (the pictures online did not do it justice!), and we knew we had made the right choice for our wedding. We had an amazing coordinator who made the whole planning process easy and made our special day the most incredible ever. We really wanted the ceremony to be personal so we had one of our best friends marry us and we wrote our own vows which we loved. We had the most amazing band who kept people on their feet all night (and even begging for an encore)! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding weekend with all our friends and family!

Bohemian Inspiration Shoot

Whenever a boho inspiration shoot comes my way, I completely change plans for my own wedding. I thought I wanted a Jane Austen garden style soiree, but maybe, just maybe, I need to boho it up a bit.  I’m thinking gorgeous farm tables, perfectly imperfect florals and “edgy” stylings that basically need no description.  In other words?  I need this wedding.  See every last ounce of inspiration captured by Michelle Lyerly right here.

From Michelle Lyerly… We wanted to have a romantic, yet edgy balance. The colors were cream, greens, lavender and blush with brown medicine bottles and touches of gold. We incorporated geodes and a guitar to give the shoot that authentic bohemian vibe. There was a beautiful horse on the property that the model immediately took to and we got some beautiful shots of them right before the shoot ended. Hair and makeup was kept soft and easy with floral crowns and wisps tied in. The main model wore Sarah Seven Amour gown with cap sleeves. The blonde is wearing a Sarah Seven Gwen gown. The blush is a combination of a Watters Ahsan skirt and Carina corset. The invitation suite has leather hand lined envelopes.

Traditional Country Club Wedding

From start to finish, this is a wedding that is all about the love.  The kind of love that exists between a darling duo who happened to meet and fall in love five years ago, after growing up thousands of miles apart.  One thing I’ve learned while working at SMP?  Cupid has a funny way of helping you to meet “the one”… and it’s awesome.  See it all captured by A.J. Dunlap Photography right here.

From A.J. Dunlap Photography… This was a day waiting to happen. Due to an unforeseen family situation, the couple had to postpone their wedding six months on the morning of the original day. It was tragic, but Mark & Seldon didn’t let it stop them from having their dream wedding six months later. With a few changes in decor to match the new season, they said their vows on November 23, 2013 in Asheville, NC at the gorgeous Biltmore Forest Country Club.

I know we all say every couple is perfect together, but I promise if you spend five minutes with these two, you’ll agree that they are meant to be. The groom is from Wales, UK and the bride is from NC. They never should have met. But fate had other plans, and put them working on the same private yacht together five years ago. Being in such close quarters with nothing but ocean around them, they quickly fell in love.

Fast forward to their wedding day, seeing these two tie the knot (and yes, they even tied a nautical knot) was perfection. Seldon had dreamed of this wedding for years. She planned it all out from across the ocean, not missing a single detail. Her gown was her dream Winnie Couture gown that she picked out on a girls’ weekend with her mom and bridesmaids at a boutique in Atlanta, GA. The decor was perfect: flowers, candles, vases and more lined the aisle and adorned the tables during the reception. The bride’s father handmade the arbor they were married under, and the ceremony was officiated by her uncle. The groom’s mom brought Welsh love spoons all the way from Wales for them to hand out to their guests as favors. Nothing was forgotten.

Currently, the couple is on their three month around the world honeymoon.

Classic Garden Wedding at the Biltmore Estate

Spring and Summer are perfect for outdoor garden affairs but this wedding held at The Biltmore is out to prove that open air Fall weddings can be quite beautiful as well. Maybe even your new favorite. Have a look at so much more of this autumn day designed by Asheville Event Co. and captured by Realities Photography right here in the full gallery.

Jenny and Dave were married at the Butterfly Gardens at the Biltmore Estate on a lovely Saturday in Novemember. I love this location because of the magnitude of the big brick greenhouse in the backdrop. This venue is such a unique location on the Biltmore Estate with so many backgrounds to shoot.

Their wedding was complete with the following precious details:

A beautifully decorated photo table with wedding images from many generations.
They used old wooden Coca Cola crates to create a vintage effect.
Krispy Kreme donuts were served to the guests as a late night snack, and they were still hot! (Thank you Missie, Asheville Event Co.)
Fireworks spontaneously happened, and the crowd went wild!

Rustic Asheville North Carolina Wedding

Charming doesn’t even begin to describe this pretty little farm fete captured by Robyn Van Dyke Photography. It’s Darling with a capital D, and the perfect bit of inspiration for all you Brides out there looking to recreate something equally special for their big day. This gallery is just pure sweetness, and you can devour every drop right here.

From Robyn Van Dyke PhotographyThis gorgeous DIY, mountain wedding was set in the mountains of Asheville just as the leaves started to change colors on October 18, 2013. Inspired by the bride’s childhood growing up on a farm surrounded by animals, and the couple’s mutual love for the Asheville mountains, the couple chose the Claxton Farm as the perfect setting for their beautiful wedding day! The bride & groom did an amazing job with the DIY design and planning of the event. I loved all of the unique little details they included that represented each of them and their passions from pumpkins, books, vintage cameras, to all the woodwork that the groom did himself! All of the lace and feminine colors made the rustic, mountain farm setting so lovely and whimsical as well!”

From the Bride… Ever since I was 7, I could always be spotted racing around barefoot across the field on my big, fat pony, covered in mud (sorry mum), with my only concern being “should I play with the chickens or goats when I get back?” So on September 23rd, when my amazing now husband, Jordan, got down on one knee at the Biltmore Estate (eeek!) and popped the question, I instantly knew exactly what kind of wedding we would have.

Asheville has always had a special place in our hearts, (we often travel there to escape from city life) and since it was where we got engaged, we knew we also wanted to start our forever there. During our search for the perfect mountain farm retreat, we checked out several venues in the area, but once we discovered Claxton Farm, we instantly fell in love! It was enclosed by 360 degrees of mountain range without a power line in sight, cows softly mooing in the background, goats, miniature ponies and even a LLAMA! Perfect!

As we continued to plan our wedding, we wanted pieces of each of us to be represented throughout the design. Little white pumpkins were placed on each table as a nod to Jordan’s Punkin Chunkin skills, antique cameras were scattered throughout due to our own shared passion for photography, old books could be seen as a reminder of our love for learning (Jordan is a PhD student!), and even the old Farmhouse tables reflected Jordan’s appreciation and love for beautiful craftsmanship. And each detail, from the soft unstructured flowers, to the eclectic dessert buffet, and even the rhythmic signs scattered around, made the event feel warm even amidst the cool autumn mountain air. It felt familiar, yet magical at the same time. It was the perfect reflection of each of us, and our wedding day was even more perfect than we could have imagined!

Coral Wedding at Mountain Magnolia Inn

We’re certainly no stranger to a pretty pop of color around these parts. In fact, we recently rounded up a few of our favorite color happy moments and today we’re adding to the love list. BIG time. D’Arcy Benincosa snapped the scenes of this bright coral fete, and you can get to pinning every last moment in the gallery right here.

From the Bride… Scott proposed to me on top of a volcano in Maui. We share a love for the outdoors, so it was fitting he proposed in such a rugged, jaw-dropping environment. The double rainbow didn’t hurt either. We had been dating four years and knew we didn’t want a long engagement. The wedding date was set for seven months later – September 21, 2013.

We envisioned a wedding that was romantic, meaningful, and most importantly, represented us. We decided on a unique venue in the mountains of North Carolina. The Mountain Magnolia Inn is a restored Victorian estate in a beautiful outdoor setting, nestled in Hot Springs – a quaint little mountain town that offers premium access to the Appalachian Trail, mineral hot springs, whitewater rafting and countless other adventures. We knew this was the spot. A gorgeous mountain getaway that was close to cosmopolitan Asheville, yet small enough our guests were all within arms reach.

On the big day, we woke to pouring rain. The ceremony was to be held outside under a 150 year-old black walnut tree! Weeks before, I had scoured Etsy for seven vintage pendant lights to hang on the tree. I knew that regardless of the weather, Scott and I were getting married under that tree. My wonderful photographer D’Arcy Benincosa assured me she could work around the rain. Somehow the rain would make the photographs romantic and lovely. I believed her but it didn’t matter. On cue, the clouds parted and the sun emerged moments before the ceremony.

Our reception was held under a tent with strings of cafe lights swooping down. I had a vision of dark, wooden farm-style tables. We wanted our guests to walk into the tent and feel like they were a attending a big family dinner. I rented mismatched china from East West Vintage rentals in Asheville. The two sisters dressed the tables brilliantly, a tasteful array of china, flatware and two crystal goblets with gold rims for Scott and me.

Flower Gallery, also from Asheville, truly took my breath away when I saw my bouquet and centerpieces. They took my wish for a simple, natural elegance combined with wildflower romance and ran with it. Our color palette was cream/ivory, coral, peach and deep burnt sienna. My favorite touch was they included fresh herbs in my bouquet and centerpieces. Now, every time I smell rosemary and thai basil, I’ll be reminded of my wedding day.

We opted for a dessert bar that included a German Chocolate cake, peach and apple pies, macaroons, lemon bars, cookies and more. My only regret was not tasting more of baker Karen Donatelli’s delicious confections! One highlight to note was sharing our personal vows under the glowing pendant lights. We felt so much love for those twenty minutes nestled under that tree deep in the Blue Ridge mountains.

While our guests enjoyed a bourbon and champagne-fueled cocktail hour, D’Arcy followed us to the river and captured us in our rain boots playing in the water. Our reception featured dancing to our favorite songs, an impromptu Thriller dance in werewolf masks, a bonfire with s’mores, pumpkin homebrew, log sawing, and the releasing of a Chinese lantern. The log sawing is a German tradition that symbolizes the first challenge a newly-married couple overcomes together. I never thought I would be sawing a log in my wedding dress and heels!

It was the perfect day for us. Scott and I are very thankful we have the gorgeous photos and video from D’Arcy. We’ll treasure those memories for a lifetime.

Asheville Wedding from Fete Photography

When sumptuous and relaxed beauty collide, it ridiculously pretty, as you are about to find out. Fete Photography captured a wedding that was both lavish and grande, but boasted a vibe that was nothing short of welcoming and happy, and it’s pretty much the best thing ever. And really, do I even have to mention the flower girl? I die.

From the photographer… Courtney and Rob live in Ohio and had a destination wedding in Asheville, North Carolina on June 1, 2013.

Courtney planned the wedding herself and the event really reflected her unique personality. The Grand Bohemian served as the perfect venue to feature the couple’s elephant cake toppers, hot-air balloon paper goods and floral arrangements draped in crystal beads. Although Courtney was the ultimate glam girl in her BHLDN ankle-wrapped heels and tulle Pronovias gown, she is extremely down-to-earth and incorporated old family photos into the decor. Also, the table with the sunflower vase and picture is a memorial to one of the bride’s childhood friends who passed away. The bride and groom have two dogs that unfortunately didn’t make it to the wedding, but they named the signature drinks after them: The Ole and The Eddy.

North Carolina Wedding from Caroline Ghetes Photography

When it comes to wedding venues, those infused with the beauty of the outdoors always make it to the top of our favorite’s list. Because really, you can’t go wrong with a wedding day surrounded by nature. This Claxton Farm affair is proof. Paired with pretty, understated details, flowers by Aria Floral that simply add to the natural surroundings and images by Caroline Ghetes worthy of a good, long perusal, this is the perfect poster child for Team Farm Wedding. Soak it all in right here.

From the Bride…Jason and I love the outdoors – the beauty of being surrounded by nature and the excitement of exploration as a couple. This was certainly the case when we ventured to the Northwest in 2011 for a long vacation. Within the first few days of our excursion, we had embarked on a strenuous 15-mile backpacking trip up, over and down a mountain in Olympic National Park. The views were breathtaking. The isolation from “everyday noise” was refreshing. The comfort of each other’s company was reassuring. And when we reached the base of the mountain, Jason popped a very special question and I said YES to many more equally-exciting journeys. Staying true to form, our October 2012 wedding was set in the rolling hills of the western North Carolina mountains. With family and friends gathered on a gorgeous Fall day, we allowed the farm property and natural backdrop to shine in their own right. Minimal touches of organic décor and warm lighting plus DIY accents, such as wrapped mason jars and vintage-inspired signage, rounded out our interpretation of rustic romance and down-home coziness.

From Almond Leaf Studios…Fall in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina is just heavenly.  Rolling mountains, beautiful colors of reds, yellows, oranges and greens – natural and beautiful. Claxton Farm, a 500 acre working farm protected by land conservation, provided the perfect backdrop for our Bohemian inspired shoot.   Colors of plum and tangerine, along with natural elements of feathers, moss, and  plants complimented the bohemian style look of our bride and groom.  Hot apple cider and blackberry pie completed the look.
