This Brooklyn Wedding Was Planned From the Other Side of the World

Planning your wedding from the other side of the world might sound stressful, but this laid-back Bride and Groom took it in stride! With the help of Rock Paper Scissors Events, they created a relaxed, intimate Brooklyn celebration all the way from Australia – they didn’t even step foot in their venue until the week of the wedding! Jennifer Pauls, a sweet friend of the couple,  captured the fun-filled and joyous day, which you can see more of in the Vault.

From Rock Paper Scissors EventsWhen we asked the couple to describe the feel of their ideal wedding, they said relaxed, warm, and intimate. Those ended up being the perfect adjectives to describe this Brooklyn wedding, held at Frankis Spuntino, the closest place locals have to a “backyard.”

Jaime and Rich actually planned their wedding all the way from Australia (the Bride is American and the Groom is Australian) and had never seen the wedding venue in person until they arrived for their wedding week. They told us a great story about why they chose it: “We chose this venue because we have seen ‘Being Frank’ on VICE, and we love the Franks’ passion for genuine, authentic food and the emphasis on family style meals surrounded by people you love.”

Jaime and Rich wanted a wedding that was all heart, with great food and close friends in an unpretentious, comfortable atmosphere. You’ll notice that the Groom wasn’t wearing a suit, and there was no wedding party in matching outfits. The amazing photos were taken by a friend. The whole wedding has this fun, authentic, naturally joyful vibe that radiates from the pictures.

A lot of Brides can learn from Jaime to focus on what is really important – you can create a wedding that is full of meaning without the stress of superficial details. Jaime and Rich brought us in to help create their vision of a gorgeous, natural, laid back design for their wedding day. They were a dream to work with and as laid back, fun and happy as their photos suggest.

See How this Couple Included the Brooklyn Bridge in their Big Day

A pretty detail can inspire a whole event, but nothing like a good love story sparks a smile and reminds us why this little ol’ blog keeps us coming back on the daily. Case in point? This sweet tale of a couple brought together by the Brooklyn Bridge, which in turn inspired their Big Day. Valerie Barnes Film captured it all beautifully and don’t miss the Bride’s full story below!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/208051724 600 338]

From the Bride… I think our priest says it best: Vincent and I are cut from the same fabric, just different ends. When we were dating, Vincent had to drive many, many times from his home in New Jersey, over the Brooklyn Bridge (often sitting in traffic), to my home in Brooklyn. So when it came time for planning our wedding, we thought that the Brooklyn Bridge needed to be a part of it somehow.

We were each raised in traditional, Italian families, where our family gatherings and weddings pretty much all take place the same few catering halls. The thought of doing something different and gasp, a Manhattan wedding, seemed out of the question, and the budget. Luckily, I have an event production background and Vincent is a whiz at crunching numbers.

In my obsession with New York City architecture, I learned of the Surrogate’s Courthouse, which is a familiar building in a very obvious location right over the Brooklyn Bridge at 31 Chambers Street in Manhattan that many New Yorkers, including myself, have passed by thousands of times without knowing its history or its breathtaking interior. To me, finding something unknown in a city so populated, where everything has already been discovered, makes the hidden gems that much more special.

As the NYC.gov site describes, the Surrogates’ Courthouse, built in 1899-1907, is a New York City Landmark, originally designed for use as a Hall of Records, it’s original name. It’s considered a major example of the early twentieth century City Beautiful movement. The idea behind the “City Beautiful” movement was to transform cities with spectacular, imposing classical buildings and monuments to provide an uplifting experience for the community. That description fit perfectly for what Vincent and I wanted our wedding guests to experience.

Because the Surrogate’s Courthouse is used for local government events and corporate holiday parties, they were less thrilled about hosting 300 of our closest family members but we somehow convinced them to agree to our big fat Italian wedding. I later learned that the Surrogate’s Courthouse was often used for filming Law & Order, which is Vincent’s favorite TV show. Once I told him about that, there was no turning back. I just needed to find a caterer that was up for the challenge of working in a completely raw space with no kitchen on-site.

In our culture, food is everything. I met with several caterers but didn’t find the right fit. So, I returned to my roots in Brooklyn and connected with Gargiulo’s, an old-school Italian restaurant, a Coney Island institution circa 1907. They do not typically agree to off-premise events but they were so interested in our story and the venue, that they fell in love with our idea and signed up for mission impossible. Gargiulo’s was amazing to work with and created such an elegant experience from the catering, tuxedoed wait staff, full bar service, furniture, to the candle centerpieces, that our guests thought that the Surrogate’s Courthouse was a restaurant.

The venue’s marble covered interior and ornate design did not need additional décor elements and I knew that I simply wanted to enhance its existing beauty through lighting. Funktion DJ designed and produced the lighting throughout the space and DJ Vitale, who grew up in the same neighborhood as me, and is the most talented and reliable DJ I know, ensured that our guests enjoyed a memorable dance party all night long.

Valerie Barnes artistic eye captured it all on film and most of the time, I forgot she was even there, and that is the highest compliment. Our wedding film speaks for itself. Our photographer, Nick Gagliano at Studio Uno, captured the surrounding architecture and special moments throughout the night.

Days after our wedding, the Surrogate’s Courthouse will be indefinitely closed for renovations. Our wedding was the last event there which makes our memory of that night feel like it’s frozen in time.

Classic NYC Wedding With the Prettiest Pastel Palette

The vision for this New York City affair? Classic. Chic. Current. In other words, the kind of wedding that feels stylish today and 50 years from now. To pull off all of the above, Blake and Jacqueline brought on a vendor A-team, including Kelsey Combe Photography, Rachel Cho Floral Design, Kate & Co. Events, and Silver Arrow Band, just to name a few. They visited their favorite spots in the city and treated their guests to a ballroom celebration designed with all-out elegance. Sneak a peek below and find even more of the big day here in the gallery.

From the bride… Blake and I met at a friend’s birthday party, where at the end of the night he asked me if I wanted to meet for a run the following weekend in Central Park. Luckily the planned run was replaced by drinks – but the park has been special to us both. Two years after we met, Blake got down on one knee in front of The Lake and asked me to marry him. We both knew we wanted to be married at the New York Athletic Club: it is such a classic New York venue and has the most amazing views of Central Park.

My vision for our wedding was classic and chic, but still current. I wanted our wedding to be simple and timeless so that when we look at the pictures in 50 years we will still be in love with how everything looked. This vision flowed from the simple monogrammed invitations, the tuxes, to the décor of the venue itself. I asked my bridesmaids to choose dresses in a neutral palette that they loved and would want to wear again. They all looked so beautiful on our wedding day and totally themselves, especially my sister/MOH in her beautiful boho dress with a baby’s breath flower crown, thanks to Rachel Cho.

I struggled to find a dress because I really wanted something that reflected my style: simple and practical. It was surprisingly hard to find something without lace or beading. I immediately loved the understated yet still elegant Willowby Watters dress. Jaclyn Jordan made me THE most amazing bolero to wear over it. The two fit together so perfectly; I loved how classic the long sleeves, pearl buttons, and fitted bodice looked over my more modern dress. My veil was borrowed from my bridesmaid and former roommate who I lived with for 5 years – it meant so much to me to have something of hers to wear on my special day. The giant all tulip bouquet completed the look; it was beautiful, simple and chic, I wish I could still carry it with me everywhere. I was initially wary of having my tattoo showing. It is in honor of my late grandmother, and having her favorite phrase “be always kind and true” on display, I felt like she was with me all day.

The city itself played a major part in our wedding. The boys took the subway from our apartment in their tuxes and bought Gatorade (which exploded on the groom) from a hot dog vendor on the street. My parents named me after Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and I grew up in Connecticut, often traveling into the city through Grand Central. My mom would always tell me how much she and my dad admired Jackie Kennedy, and that it was she who had taken the initiative to have the ceiling of this amazing terminal restored. One of my first requests for Kelsey was that we take pictures in Grand Central, and it was truly one of my favorite parts of the day. I will treasure those pictures for the rest of my life.

While the NYAC is incredibly beautiful and has amazing character, a lot of its atmosphere is very dark and masculine. I worked with Rachel and her team to create a floral look to soften the dark paneling in the rooms that we were in. For the ceremony, we had two amazing flowering branch arrangements which framed my aunt and uncle, who married us. The beautiful sign that my sister-in-law’s mother made us for the ceremony program carried our simple theme and is now hanging in our living room! For the centerpieces, low all white flowers with plenty of candles including floating votives showed off the reception room’s character while brightening the ancient carved wood ceiling. The head table had low lush arrangements with no space between them creating a runner look.

Two pieces of advice to brides!

1. Hire a day-of coordinator (or full-time planner) for your own peace of mind. Hiring Kate was one of the best decisions we made. Kate made the day seamless and was a dream to work with – we are forever grateful that we were fully able to enjoy our day because of her.

2. Get hair extensions – but seriously… I could not be happier with the way my hair looked on my wedding day. I have thin hair so the clip-in extensions from RPZL gave me body, length and most importantly held my style incredibly well. Also, a good spray tan is a girl’s best friend!

Chic NYC Wedding With Skyline Views + Lace Jumpsuit

This couple wanted an unconventional reception with views of the New York City skyline to celebrate after their City Hall nuptials, and Ang Weddings and Events sure did deliver! The Central Park Zoo was the perfect location for their vision, offering the guests a chance to explore and mingle with the animals. From the Bride’s chic DVF jumpsuit to a Batman inspired cake topper, Moss + Isaac Photography captured the details of day, and we have them all waiting for you here.

From Ang Weddings and EventsCarly and Xavier had their marriage ceremony at City Hall and threw a fantastic reception at the Central Park Zoo to celebrate with their closest friends and family. Before everyone arrived, we arranged for a photo session for the couple at the Zoo and around Central Park. Carly looked so chic in her DVF white lace and sequin jumpsuit and her bouquet of striking peonies.

Guests were welcomed to the Zoo with cocktails around the sea lion pool, watching April the sea lion swimming and playing in the water. The tropics zone and the penguin and seabird building were also open during cocktail hour, so everyone had the opportunity to explore. We brought in a New Orleans jazz band that played some of their favorite tunes. Creative Edge served New Orleans Hurricanes and a Bloody Marys as their signature drinks.

Dinner took place under a tent, which was decorated with what seemed like a million hanging lights and touches of greenery. To create some dimension, we combined round tables with some long tables at an angle to the length of the tent. I loved the black escort cards and menus against the crisp white linens and the beautiful black vases that Verde sourced for the long tables. The flowers were lush and soft, evoking a garden like atmosphere perfect for an outdoor reception. For dinner, guests enjoyed grilled peach and burrata followed by pan seared bass or beef tenderloin wellington. Xavier, being French, had to have a cheese course, so Creative Edge provided a beautiful table of a selection of cheeses for guests to enjoy. The simply elegant cake by Nine Cakes was adorned with an adorable cake topper of batman and batgirl getting married, one of the costumes that Carly and Xavier had dressed up in for halloween one year! We also passed around mini desserts, banana split drumsticks, boozy milkshakes, strawberry whoopie pies, and chewy chocolate caramel tartlets. Being lovers of chocolate, their favors were two dark chocolate truffles from La Maison du Chocolat.

The Central Park Zoo was the perfect space for a couple that wanted something different and unconventional. Carly and Xavier wanted to have their reception outside and ideally with a view of the New York City skyline. This was no easy feat to find a location in Manhattan large enough for their guest list, but we found it at the zoo, and it was perfect! I will always remember that gorgeous spring evening with guests eating and drinking around the sea lion pool and the dramatic view of the Central Park South skyline.

Clean + Classic Nautical Wedding in the Hamptons

A day spent in the Hamptons is always a good idea. Especially when it involves a styled-to-the-nines wedding day photographed by Brklyn View Photography. Think soft and classic with a decidedly nautical vibe, not to mention the prettiest blush Weddington Way bridesmaid dresses you ever did see. Hop to the gallery for even more of this waterside love fest from start to finish.

On a perfect day in the Hamptons, Catherine and Rob were married at the Montauk Yacht Club in front of their closest family and friends. The stunning bride wore the most amazing modern elegant wedding dress from Vera Wang. The groom looked ever bit the part in his custom made tuxedo from Berel and Co. and Ferragamo velvet loafers.

Catherine and Rob have a wonderful sense of style and humor – they love to laugh and have a good time! The couple shared their first look at the Montauk Yacht Club before heading over the to the Montauk Lighthouse for epic portraits with sweeping views of the ocean. Rob gave Catherine a truly stunning wedding gift, a custom diamond necklace made with diamonds from his Mother’s wedding ring. Their ceremony took place outside on the great lawn at the Montauk Yacht Club just as the sun was beginning to set. It was an emotional, touching and joyous ceremony filled with so much love and laughter.

Guests were treated to a cocktail hour outside overlooking the bay before moving inside the Farm Ballroom for the stunning reception. Karen Lenahan Designs created a whimsical Hamptons retreat inside the ballroom with her use of greens and flowers. The Artie Stuart Band from Hank Lane Music brought the house down! Absolutely no one sat down the entire reception!

The newlyweds shared a first dance to Bruce Springsteen and danced the night away with everyone they love so much.

Beach Wedding Done Right

This is a beach wedding done right. The Bride and Groom both hold a strong affinity for the ocean, and they even got engaged while seaside! It only made sense for them to celebrate saying “I do” in Montauk, surrounded by their loved ones at their favorite location. From the place cards nestled in sand to the use of beachgrass as decor and driftwood as centerpieces and a ceremony arch, classic beach elements were used in a natural and organic way. The result is breathtaking, so don’t miss a single photo in this gallery by Levi Stolove Photography.

From Levi Stolove PhotographyNicole grew up in Minnesota and Elliot in Long Island, but when the two met in Hong Kong while traveling for work, something was sparked. They were both living in New York City a year later when they met at a restaurant and realized they had found a true partner. Both of them feel a strong connection to the ocean, and when Elliot was ready to propose to Nicole, he chose a beautiful beach setting, so when it came time to plan their wedding, they felt it would be great to connect the engagement to the wedding by way of the landscape and environment. The beach vibe –both elegant and laid back – suited their personalities well. Most important to them was to have a fun and lively day connecting their families and friends together.

The Couple That Water Skis Together, Stays Together

This couple met when they were just 13 years old, water skiing at their family’s summer homes on Lake George. Fast forward several years later, when they went waterskiing together on the morning of their wedding and took their “getaway” photos in the very same boat they skied behind when they were teens. This Bride and Groom’s wedding is as cute as their love story, so dig right in to the beautiful photos by Sweetwater Portraits.

Lakeside

From the Groom… Our parents have summer houses down the street from one another on Lake George in the Adirondacks of New York, which lead to us meeting through a mutual friend when we were only 13 years old. We became fast friends, water-skiing and having all sorts of summer fun through the years. We were always smitten with one another (and may have even kissed on a wave runner in the middle of the lake when we were 15), but we lived 9 months out of the year in different parts of the State – I was in Albany and Janine on Long Island. As we went off to college, we drifted apart until we reconnected as adults in 2008. We began dating in the summer of 2010.

We dated for 5 years before the proposal. The first 2 years we lived apart from one another, with Janine working in NYC and me working in Albany. We then moved to Boston together in 2012. The proposal happened by the reflecting pool in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston. It was a complete surprise to Janine. I had orchestrated a nice dinner out and suggested we stroll beforehand by the reflecting pool. As we approached the fountain that adorns the east side of the pool’s plaza, I began reminiscing with Janine on all that had transpired for us over the years. I pulled out the first letter I had ever written Janine, reading it in its entirety before connecting the dots to our shared future ahead: “with eternity left, we haven’t a moment to spare.” I then got down on one knee. Janine exclaimed, “Is this really happening?!?” and the rest is history!

From the Bride… For the wedding, we did it all “ourselves” – no consultants or wedding planner, but we had a lot of help from family, friends, and vendors along the way. It was important to us to have our wedding be a unique expression of our relationship and our shared vision for what that special day should entail. We spent the better part of a year slowly developing ideas and executing some of our handcrafted projects. It was less arduous planning and more shared experience. The day of can itself be so fleeting that we were mindful to savor all the moments leading up to the big day. We were so pleased with each and every one of our vendors: our photographer Sweetwater Portraits, our cinematographer 21 Summit Studios, our caterer Mazzone Catering, our Tent and Logistics vendor Rain or Shine, and our band The New York Players. The trick is to sample their work, speak with them before committing, and get feedback from past clients. We went the extra mile up front to choose the right people so we could focus our attention elsewhere and not worry about that particular piece anymore. That ultimately meant more time for us to spend crafting the unique elements of our event and purely enjoying the moment on the wedding day.

I have a small business, Paper Planes Studio, designing and printing paper goods for special events, so I designed all the stationery. Having designed invitations, thank you cards, and day of paper goods for so many others, I had a blast designing my own and made sure they all reflected the unique aesthetic of our event by incorporating hand-penned gold script, crisp elegance, and a warm blush palette with some campy iconography.

After looking at a number of venues, we chose to get married at Chris’s family house on Lake George where it all began for us 20 years prior. It required some family and friends to travel in order to attend, but we made an entire weekend celebration out of it. We rented out an Adirondack cabin resort next to the house so people were a short trail walk away for festivities that extended from Friday night through Sunday afternoon.

I ended up buying something completely different from what I had in mind. I went dress shopping in October, put on a dress that was part of a trunk show, and fell in love. It was an ivory, stretch charmeuse, fit-to-flare gown with sheer corset detailing and hand beaded appliqué. It was so different yet so comfortable. I ended up wearing a veil for the ceremony that matched the sheer corset of the dress. I wore my grandmothers bracelet, a pair of diamond drop earrings, and gold wedges that had nice details to relate to the dress.

I had seven Bridesmaids, and I wanted them to be comfortable the day of, so I left them pick the cut they liked from a designer that had over 20 styles to choose from. They all wore the same color (light mint), and each dress was made from chiffon and looked light, airy, garden and party-esque.

There were four Groomsmen. They wore black tuxedos with braces, bow ties, and mint argyle socks. Chris wore black tuxedo pants, a white tailored dinner jacket with gold paisley braces, and a bowtie. He wore the same mint argyle socks as the Groomsmen and accessorized with gold cuff links from his deceased father to bring his spirit into the day. We all got ready on site the day of, but we brought out Chris’s late father’s British racing green 1952 Jaguar XK for pictures and some weekend fun.

We decided to do the ceremony right on the lawn between a large tree and a landscaped gazebo area on the property. The lawn slopes away to the water right behind where we were standing, so the backdrop was an unobstructed panoramic view of beautiful Lake George and the surrounding mountains that come to the water’s edge. The ceremony was designed to enhance and draw attention to the natural splendor that was already there, so we used natural wood folding chairs in a semi-circle setup with a few tasteful flower displays at the start of the aisle. We used dahlias, garden roses, garden spray roses, ranunculus, dusty miller, and seeded eucalyptus, which were placed atop sanded wooden stumps that we harvested from the woods of the property.

We had four long rows of farm tables that extended from the dance floor towards the water for the reception. To keep with our idea of accentuating the natural beauty vs. creating beauty from scratch, we kept the table decorations to carefully chosen essentials. We had custom sewn mint and gold polka dot napkins (thanks, Aunt Sue!), gold chargers, and hand-painted pots that housed a variety of succulents. The succulents provided some life to the tables, served as a place card, and then were taken home as favors at the end of the night.

Cocktail hour included some special appetizer stations on the deck with special seating areas and access to the bar spilling onto the lawn. It was important to us that the entirety of the property be experienced by guests, from the lake wall to the gazebo, to the small beach, to the dock, to the fire pit, etc. As such, we wanted to create a very comfortable, accessible feel to the event that did not corral people to one specific place. The special cocktail, coined the “Summer Love Smash,” contained bourbon, muddled peach, mint, ginger, simple syrup, and ginger ale – YUM! It was a winner.

The most important decision we made regarding the menu was to serve mains family style on our long wooden farm tables. It created a shared experience for everyone there. We had to work with the caterer on selection and the details of timing so it would come together just right, but it was worth it. It was such a treat to have all of our cherished people there, overhearing things like, “Can you pass the ratatouille?” We made sure to create a mindful moment by giving a short speech prior to service as an intro to breaking bread together.

We wanted to hang out with everyone post reception by the fire and under the stars. We built a large bonfire, set up a late night photo booth, cracked open some bottles of champagne, and had a blast. We did sneak off during the reception to take “getaway” photos in my waterski boat (which is the same boat we skied behind when we were 13).

A few other special details: We built and painted a custom photo booth backdrop that was inspired by Wes Anderson’s quirky, campy design. We accumulated decorations and props from garage sales and antique stores leading up to the wedding. We built a large “LOVE” marquee out of stained, cut plywood and metal flashing that served, along with some string lighting, as a marvelous photo backdrop for all the couples that night. My parents were undergoing a kitchen remodel on their cabin the year before the wedding, so we saved some old cabinet doors, window panes, etc. and leveraged them as day-of signs and a table seating key. We acquired some wood pieces used in animal hide tanning, affixed them to a downed tree branch, hand-painted directional elements onto them and used it as a signpost for guests directing to activities such as “Ceremony” and “Dinner and Dancing”. We also stripped and sanded down tree stumps from the woods to serve as additional seats around the fire pit during cocktail hour and the after party.

Our desire was to blend the best of a rustic Adirondack aesthetic with a glamorous 20s-esque vibe. One of our good friends coined the phrase “the Gatsbys go camping,” and we think that about sums it up!

Our advice to other Brides and Grooms is to manage your time, your budget, and your friends/family throughout the process. It’s important that you make this special day your own, so sit down with your partner to do a little dreaming together. Then figure out how to make it happen. A lot of couples get lost along the way because they don’t have a strategy for keeping each one of these pieces under control.

A Celebration of Life + Health at This Glam NYC Nuptial

This Bride and Groom had something extra special to celebrate at their prohibition-era New York City inspired wedding – the Bride had recently received a clean bill of health! After she had been diagnosed with a rare auto immune disorder, these two grew even closer together as they fought for her recovery and for their future life together. Their wedding is as beautiful as their story, thanks to the amazing work of Curtain Up Events, SB BeautyAnthony Brownie Flowers + Events, and so many other amazing vendors, and you can see the whole celebration through the lens of Karen Hill Photography.

From the Bride… Cooper and I met and fell in love immediately. We got engaged at age 24 within a year of meeting. There has never been a clearer decision in either of our lives. But two months later, I went to the doctor for what we would later discover was auto immune encephalitis. My immune system was attacking my brain, at first causing mood swings of anger and crying, and eventually causing loss of speech ability, loss of motor control, and seizures. Cooper defended me to doctors who thought I was being hysterical, and he acted as my interpreter when I could no longer express myself. Even when doctors didn’t know how to diagnose me and said they couldn’t help us, Cooper never lost faith that we could make me better. He gave me the strength to go on when my brain was armed against me.

After landing in the hospital in front of the right doctors (thanks to Cooper’s mom reading a book, “Brain on Fire,” about a woman who went through the same thing), the same doctors in the book diagnosed me and started me on treatment. I was injected with other people’s immune systems, intravenous immunoglobulin. A science miracle was worked, and now I’m 100% healthy.

Cooper and I know each other so much more deeply and could not wait to get married. We are so thrilled and grateful! Our wedding was held at 632 on Hudson, an extraordinary venue! Following the ceremony was an extended cocktail hour. We wanted our wedding to be timeless, organic, playful in moments, and always full of love and joy. Our colors were midnight blue and gold, inspired by a portrait on the atrium ceiling. Our bridesmaids wore earthy metallics and blush. Our flowers were burgundy, red, blush, and green. We went for a loose prohibition era, New York vibe!

A Hudson Valley Summertime Soirée

Lush gardens, an antique barn, and a tent for dinner and dancing in the meadow. These words from the bride are the best way to describe this Hudson Valley wedding set in the peak of summertime. With the help of professionals like Main Course Catering and Ulysses Photography, the couple crafted a day that showcased the beauty of the outdoors, and you can see it all right here.

From the bride… Creating the ultimate Hudson Valley summer outdoor wedding was my dreamscape for our celebration! Lush gardens, an antique barn and a tent for dinner and dancing in the meadow…this was my midsummer night’s vision for the evening I wed my husband! Barncroft is my parent’s property. I grew up there and it exemplifies everything I love about Hudson Valley summertime. Sharing my love of this sense of place to guests was important to me.

Bold, bright and beautiful was our color palate – hot pink, champagne rose and deep purple against ivory and verdant neutrals! I designed my bridal bouquet with hot pink local dahlias and roses, champagne rose ranunculus and hypericum berries with accents of deep purple veronica.

My gown, an asymmetrical masterpiece was layered with lace and other light fabrics. The waist was lined in lace and a single band of ribbon. I really owe Erika of Be Unique Boutique a huge thank you for this fantastic styling! My rainbow crystal sandals were perfect for grass and walking the property. Doug wore a unique Fiji Blue 3 piece suit with a blue/light blue checked shirt – which reads as solid from afar! The bold striped tie and pocket square tied the suit and shirt colors together beautifully… not to mention his eyes! As my bridesmaids are all gorgeous and unique, I asked them to select their favorite knee-length champagne dress. Groomsmen were mailed a funny style guide I created.

My Mother is an inspired gardener and magical with flowers. Together we crafted the look of our wedding flowers. My stepdaughter Nicole and her friend Karen both lent their talent in creating centerpieces, boutonnieres, and bridesmaids bouquets. I designed all my stationery to incorporate the color palette and the theme of bright bold beautiful summertime flowers and dreamy watercolor!

Ulysses + Jenni of Ulysses Photography were an indispensable pair to have at our wedding. I learned a great lesson working with these professionals. For example, singing and playing a couple of songs could definitely be a surprise for my groom as well as the guests – but details like these have to be planned out with your vendors! These professional are here to make yours the most special event ever, so tell them everything – they love it!

If I were to have one piece of advice for future brides, it would be to be grateful to those around you who are helping you. And just having FUN is the best way to plan a beautiful, stress-free celebration!

From Brklyn View PhotographyFrom the very first moment Jessica met John, she knew he was the one. They met at a small bistro in Brooklyn Heights and quickly became exclusive. During their courtship, they spent a lot of time in Montauk, so when John proposed, they knew they wanted to celebrate their marriage in their favorite place in New York. The couple chose the stunning Montauk Yacht Club Resort and Marina for their nautical chic inspired wedding.

Jessica wore the most delicate and detailed Monique Lhuillier wedding dress I have ever seen. The intricate layers of tulle, lace, and silk fit her like a glove. She wore cream colored, crystal encrusted Manolo Blahnik shoes and carried her grandmother’s beaded clutch for her something borrowed. The couple prayed for good weather, and the heaven’s did not disappoint. Crystal clear blue skies and bright sun shined throughout their wedding day, which was the picture perfect backdrop for their outside ceremony. Jessica was moved to tears while reciting her wedding vows and John looked on with pure happiness that he was becoming her husband.

All Who Wander Events coordinated and designed their wedding, creating a seamless flow between events. Ava Flora created stunning wedding flowers for the entire wedding party, ceremony space, and reception. After the ceremony, guests were treated to a sunset cocktail hour outside on the lawn overlooking the water before heading into the Farm Ballroom for the reception. The East Coast Band brought the house down! Every single person danced on the dance floor, and the Bride and Groom were having so much fun that they didn’t want the night to end! I’m so honored and delighted to have been part of Jessica and John’s wedding day. I knew from the moment we met, I wanted to be their wedding photographer, and I’m thrilled to call them friends. Congratulations!

Romantic + Moody New York Castle Wedding

Stefanie and Ted are entertainers by nature, so they saw their wedding as an opportunity to treat their guests to a day they’d never forget. From the castle setting all the way to the karaoke afterparty, they made sure not detail went unnoticed, and we have all the images captured by Olya Vysotskaya.

From the Bride… Ted and I met online, which is such a crazy thing to say because I feel like I’ve known him my whole life! We are obsessed with entertaining and take it very seriously. Needless to say that when it came to planning our wedding (the biggest entertaining night of our lives!) the pressure was on to make sure that our guests would have the best time while still adding in all of the adorable touches that make us…well, us!

After our first venue fell through, we decided to get back on the horse and start looking at places not in New Jersey as we had originally planned. We borrowed a friend’s car and we headed into unchartered territory – Long Island! The first place we went to was a complete bust. We left deflated and were ready to call it quits. I reminded him we had one more venue and it was SUPER close so we should just suck it up and go. Low and behold we wind up at Oheka Castle. I don’t even think that I took one step inside before I told Ted “This is THE ONE”. Once inside it was a done deal.

As for the big day itself, it’s just like everybody tells you – it goes by way too fast, is a total blur, and it’s the most fun day ever. The wedding went off without a hitch and the love that was all around us was inspiring.

Of course, being the entertainers that we are – we couldn’t end there! If there is one thing I love its karaoke! Everybody I know said that the karaoke was by far the most fun thing they’ve done for a wedding afterparty. It got people dancing, singing and in an all around party mode! Once our time was up people hung out in the back courtyard of the castle and one of our friends even ordered pizza for us and the staff. We stretched out the night as long as we possibly could because we just never wanted it to end

A Real Bride Who Pulled off the Grecian Goddess Look

As a yoga instructor and boho-chic style lover, this bride knew exactly the look she was going for – Grecian goddess. From her flowing dress to the gladiator sandals to the gold headpieces that tied it all together, she looked every bit the part. Watch the entire day come to life through the lens of Alexandra Meseke, with even more waiting right here.

From the Bride… I envisioned an ethereal and whimsical wedding. Very boho chic. I am a yoga instructor and Paul is very laid back, and we wanted our wedding day to portray how we are.

Our color palette was earthy tones with hints of champagne and gold. I wanted the flowers to be a big moment as the venue was in the country. I knew beautiful wildflowers would pull it all together and I just loved out greenery runner across our sweetheart table. Also, all the bridesmaids had gold olive leaf bands in their hair.

We made bridesmaid and groomsmen pallets to showcase each member of the wedding party with a picture of them and a story to go with it. We also spray painted branches gold and hung crystal around them for extra decor. I also had a small swan pinned to the back of my dress that was my grandmothers. It was nice to use that as my something old and keep her by my side.

My gown was a Shareen Bridal gown. As soon as I tried it on and looked in the mirror I knew it was the one. I started crying and told everyone in the room, “This is the dress. I can picture myself walking to Paul in this dress.” Once I had the dress, I knew I wanted gladiator sandals to go for the full Grecian goddess look, with a gold headpiece and wavy curls.

Our piece of advice for future brides is to savor the moments on your wedding day. Take a second to step back and let it all sink in. It’ll be over in a flash.

Timeless NYC Ballroom Wedding

As one of the pros behind Intrigue Design and Decor, you better believe this bride was prepared for just about anything on her wedding day. Including a complete dress malfunction that required an emergency trip to the Garment District only minutes before the ceremony. Luckily, the rest of the day unfolded just as she’d envisioned thanks to the incredible Claire Duran working behind the scenes, and we’ve got every photo from Kenzie Victory waiting right here.

From the Bride… As the leader of the business side of Intrigue Design and Decor, I have been spoiled by witnessing countless weddings with decadent flowers and romantic decor. When it came time to plan my own wedding, I felt paralyzed. How would I compete with all of the breathtaking weddings that I have seen brought to life over the years?

After weeks of touring venues in my hometown of Washington, DC, I received crushing news. The temple that I had dreamt of getting married in since the time I was a little girl was preparing for renovations and would be closed the entire month of my wedding. Being sealed in the temple on my wedding day was vital, which meant I needed to find a new venue near the closest temple to us, bringing us to Manhattan. Finding just the right venue in New York City seemed like a daunting task; however, it ended up being easier than I could have ever hoped.

I drove to the city accompanied by my mom and best friend with a 2-day schedule packed with tours and meetings. First on our list was the J.W. Marriott Essex House. Upon arrival, we immediately felt welcomed as the doorman opened our car door and signaled his hand towards the entrance. We stepped through revolving doors and into a well-appointed lobby, complete with the most beautiful floral displays. Beyond the florals stood a tall, smiling gentleman that seemed all too familiar. He walked towards us, shook my hand and introduced himself as “Jason.” The next hour felt like a dream as Jason walked us through the Petite Salon, the Grande Ballroom and up elevators adorned with the most beautiful metal work. It was everything I had been looking for and Jason’s helpful demeanor and expertise was just what I needed to successfully pull off a destination wedding in this massive city.

The dress was the easy part. I called my friend and designer Sohil, creator of Enaura Gowns, and he crafted a custom dress with impeccable detail for me on my wedding day. The entire bodice was adorned with hand beading that traveled down the tulle skirt and across the sheer sleeves with a series of fluttering fabric flowers. The cathedral veil, equally as grand, emulated the detail of the gown with a series florets and subtle sparkle.

With so much experience in the wedding industry, you would imagine that finding a photographer should be a no brainer. However, the last thing I wanted to do was ask one of my photographer friends to work my wedding rather than be a guest. So, I began doing what most millennial brides tend to do and scoured Instagram, eventually falling for the feed of @KenzieVictory. Her images were soft and natural and instantly appealing. With this crucial piece in place, the wedding planning was almost complete.

Of course, every great wedding needs a great planner/stylist. So, we brought Claire Duran Events up to make sure all the details were in place, that the images were styled and that each of the day’s details unfolded precisely according to plan.

The Wedding Day

When the big day arrived, I felt giddy with excitement. After so much planning and coordination, all that was left to do was enjoy the day. I remember waking up feeling full of anticipation. Dressed in a silk robe, I gathered with my bridesmaids and the pampering ensued. It was a splendid morning with freshly squeezed orange juice, New York bagels and delicious fruit. Then the moment came to get dressed and meet my groom for our “first look.”

I stepped away feeling excited. Today was the day. Today I was marrying the love of my life. When I went to unveil my dress, I immediately knew something was wrong.

It was at that moment that the advice my sister-in-law gave me kicked into place. Two weeks prior to the wedding, Melanie quietly sat me down and counseled, “Ten things will go wrong on your wedding day. If you prepare for that, you won’t be anxious. When the first thing happens, start counting.”

The room froze. Everyone looked at me in disbelief. My custom Enaura Bridal gown went from being a dream come true to completely unusable. The zipper had become unhinged to the dress, creating a massive hole in the back. Panic filled the room, yet I remained calm. I counted one.

It felt like a scene from a hospital, people were on the phone, running around and panicking trying to figure out the next move. Amidst all the commotion, I remained calm and steady. My family and friends looked at me in utter disbelief. Meeting my soon-to-be husband in time for our “first look” was out of the question, and with my temple sealing quickly approaching I had to think fast.

Having a wedding in New York City has its advantages. After a few phone calls, I was able to reach my friend Sohil, the designer/owner of Enaura Bridal. I explained to him my situation and he immediately told me to meet him at his studio in the garment district. Along with both my photographer and videographer, we hopped into a cab and made our way towards the studio. Upon arrival, Sohil worked tirelessly to have my dress completed in time. With no time to waste, I headed back to the Essex house just in time to respond to a very confused groom. While I had been dealing with the dress, he had been patiently waiting in Central Park for my arrival. After some much-needed explaining, we took a moment to laugh and express how much we loved each other.

The time is now 12:00. With our temple sealing at 1pm, I had to quickly make my way to the Manhattan, New York Latter-Day Saint Temple. Together with our families and in one of the holiest places on earth, we were married for time and all eternity. We promised to always stand by each others sides in what was one of the most beautiful ceremonies imaginable. After the ceremony ended, my gown was waiting for me in the bridal suite. It was then that I was able to share a beautiful, uninterrupted moment with my mother as I finally put on my wedding gown.

As the day unfolded, each detail flowed beautifully into the next with surprises at every corner. While taking our formal pictures at Bethesda Terrace in Central Park, my groom surprised me with a small group of local NYC talent performing the most beautiful rendition of John Legend’s All of Me My heart was overwhelmed by his thoughtfulness and kindness.

As we made our way to the ballroom, my heart was racing. I couldn’t wait to view the masterpiece that Intrigue Design and Decor had designed. As I walked in, I was speechless. Blooms adorned every table and place setting. Lush, grand centerpieces welcomed me as I glided through the ballroom. It was a room meant for a princess. The doors were then opened to the ceremony space were I was greeted with the most stunning flower wall. Roses and moss spiraled into the most whimsical design you could possibly imagine.

What a day to remember, family and friends traveled from near and far to celebrate our love and marriage. The night, thanks to Jason, went without a hitch. From the dancing to the toasts, every moment was perfect. Entertainment by On The Move was spectacular. We couldn’t have asked for a better fusion between DJ and band. Together with On The Move, my two brothers and father sang our first song. It was a moment I’ll never forget. To be dancing with my groom, while the other three most important men in my life sang to us, was enough to bring me to tears.

As the night drew to a close, the master of ceremonies announced that there was one surprise left. I was completely shocked as I looked towards my groom, just standing there with a grin. As I was lead out the ballroom with my family following close behind, we made our way to the entrance of the hotel. Waiting out front was a vintage yellow cab for Morgan and I. I could barely contain my excitement. After so many surprises all day long, he seemed somehow to top it all off with the greatest of them all. The people cheered, our families may have cried, but as we drove away into a new chapter in our lives, I knew one thing – September 6, 2016, was the best day of my life.

A New York Wedding With the Most Charming Venue

After viewing this spectacular gallery of images by Kelly Kollar Photography and the heartwarming film by McKenize Miller, I’m convinced I need a weekend getaway at the wedding’s New York venue – the charming Bedford Post Inn. Complete with picturesque gardens and an intimate dining space, the Inn had just enough rooms to house the bridal party and the bride and groom’s parents for the weekend. TRUE Event and Hana Floral Design complemented the setting perfectly with stunning decor and gorgeous blooms, making this fall wedding a can’t miss.

From the Bride… Despite living around the corner from each other as babies on Long Island, Derek and I actually never met until we were both living in Manhattan after college. After 20+ years, our first meeting was long overdue. I knew Derek was going to be my husband on our first date, and it wasn’t much later that Derek told his family that he was going to marry me.

One Sunday in autumn 2015, Derek told me to dress up for a fancy dinner but wouldn’t reveal the destination. Surprise locations for our “date nights” were not unusual, so I didn’t ask questions. I should’ve realized Derek had a different type of surprise in mind when he took me out on the roof deck of our building – in November! His real plans became clear when he dropped down to his knee to propose. Derek must have been quite busy planning this surprise since Kelly Kollar (our photographer) was there to capture the proposal from behind a bush a few feet away. After the proposal, Derek asked me to choose the one place I wanted to celebrate our engagement to which I replied the NoMad Restaurant. The final surprise was when he whisked me away to the NoMad roof where our families (and Kelly) greeted us for cocktails followed by a private dinner in the rooftop cupola.

Derek and I spent a lot of time researching wedding venues, and we came close to submitting a deposit for one in Manhattan. Luckily for us, we didn’t commit until we visited the last potential destination on our list, the Bedford Post Inn, located one hour north of Manhattan. Touring the indoor and outdoor spaces in the crisp autumn air and eating in its intimate restaurant made us feel right at home. The Inn had just enough rooms to accommodate the bride and groom, our parents, and our wedding party on the wedding night. After we said goodbye to most of our guests after the reception, we changed into sweatpants and ended our night with chicken fingers, french fries, and grilled cheese with our parents and wedding party.

My favorite part of wedding planning was dress shopping. I took full advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity by trying on as many gowns as possible! I found “the one” by Mira Zwillinger on Pinterest. After exhaustive research, I went to the only salon in the Tri-State area, Mark Ingram Atelier, that carried that particular gown. The dress was perfect, and I could tell my mom agreed when I saw tears in her eyes.

I wanted our wedding favors to be personal. As an avid baker, I decided to bake 190 chocolate chip cookies in my parents’ kitchen just days before the wedding. Everyone (and I mean everyone) said I was crazy when I announced my plans. But they all thanked me when they were able to enjoy a homemade cookie after a night of drinks and dancing.

It was really easy for me to lose sight of what was important while managing the wedding planning process and dealing with sensory overload from Pinterest, Instagram, and bridal magazines. My advice to future brides is to remember what the day is actually about – marrying the love of your life in the presence of your family and friends. All the little details made our wedding great, but ultimately, sharing our happiness as husband and wife for the first time in the company of our family and friends made it perfect.

From Stacie Shea… This wedding was a labor of my love for team Stacie Shea Events and such a great love story as well. The owner of the The Greenwich Tent Co, Zachary Wilson married my loving assistant Erica Choutka and they both met while working in the Connecticut event industry in Greenwich a few years earlier. Zachary and Erica met under a Sperry tent at an event in June of 2013 when Erica worked for a fellow planner in Connecticut . Erica was the assistant to the Wedding Planner, and he was responsible for the amazing reception tent set up. The setting was beautiful, and the wedding went off without a hitch. We stood along the perimeter and watched the guests celebrate the new bride and groom. Zach and Erica made some small talk, and the common surface conversation between two people who had just met for the first time. They talked about their college alma maters and their mutual love for the event industry. The night was a success, the wedding went off without a hitch, their was a happy bride and groom and a new industry connection. Fast forward a few short years later Erica started working at Stacie Shea Events as an associate designer and Stacie asked Erica to go to an event tasting at On the Marc Events in Stamford. It was at this industry tasting that her and Zach met again and kick started their relationship. Zach recently took over Sperry tents Greenwich and formed the Greenwich Tent Company. Now just a short few years later they will be standing under that same Sperry tent celebrating yet another wedding together. This event goes to show you can meet the love of your life as a vendor working at a wedding!

From Cappy Hotchkiss PhotographyLonghouse Reserve is a stunning jewel of a sculpture garden in East Hampton that only allows four events per year. These two hired the fabulous team of Duke + Van Deusen for their planning, who arranged synchronized swimmers during the cocktail hour as well as a flower crown bar (guests could choose which flowers they wanted, and Avaflora fashioned the crowns on the spot, resulting in a wedding full of gorgeous women and men of all ages and styles sporting flowers on their heads), a lemonade bar, a hotdog station, signature drinks, tons of beautiful signs, an old wagon filled with flowers as the place card holder, a dessert bar, hand painted invitations, and bridesmaids’ dresses in a pastel rainbow of colors. The ceremony was officiated by a friend of the bride and groom’s.

It is presumed that it was only a matter of time before Fred and Ali would meet, given they lived just a block away from each other in New York City. They probably even passed each other on the street, but it wasn’t until mutual friends got the idea to set them up that their lives would intersect and change forever. One of Ali’s best friends told her she had a guy to set her up with and sent along a link to his Facebook picture. With one look, Ali messaged her friend, “Make it happen.” The girls arranged for Fred and his friend to meet them out in the neighborhood one night, that way her friends could interrogate him all at once. To no one’s surprise, sparks flew instantly, everyone approved, and they both instinctively felt that this could be the start of something special.

Fred asked Ali if she wanted to come along with him on a business trip to a conference in Miami, and without hesitation Ali said, “No, thanks.” For a good month she thought she was in the clear, however Fred brought it up again, saying that his boss’s wife and his boss’s boss’s wife were going, and that it was really important that she make it if she could. This time Ali agreed. A day before the trip, Ali decided to swap her glittery nail polish for something a little more work-friendly, and upon returning from the nail salon, she noticed her dead bolt was unlocked, sending a wave a panic through her. Mind you, she was already on high alert because it was April Fools’ Day. She cautiously pushed open the door and proceeded to check the closets, behind the doors, and even under the bed, but she found nothing. Suddenly she noticed a giant bouquet of flowers sitting right in front of her on the dining room table, and she happily realized Fred had played the nicest April Fools’ Day trick on her.

She was calling her mom to tell her about it when the doorbell rang. Ali opened the door and was surprised to find Fred. She wondered why he wasn’t at work, but she thanked him for the flowers. Fred then got down on one knee, said some incredibly romantic words (that unfortunately neither of them can remember), and asked Ali to spend the rest of her life with him (and assured her the proposal wasn’t a prank). She of course said yes, but the story doesn’t end there. Overcome with emotion, Ali called her family, but instead of congratulating her, they thought it was a prank. You should know that April Fools’ Day is Ali’s favorite holiday. It was then she realized Fred had played the most ingenious April Fools’ Day prank ever. She called all of her friends that night, and not a single one believed her! Some people didn’t up until her wedding day, thinking the website, dress, and save-the-date were all part of an elaborate prank. As if things couldn’t get any better, after the proposal Fred whisked Ali away – not on a work trip to Miami, but to Mustique, where they spent the next few days laying in the sand and celebrating their engagement.

This Is Why We Love At Home Engagement Shoots

Meeting the second time around might have been the charm for these two but there’s absolutely no delay in sensing the love between them now. Alicia Swedenborg captured their love as bright and beautiful as can be in their Greenwich Village home and once again, we have an engagement shoot that makes us completely obsessed with at home sessions! See all the reasons why in our Vault right this way!

From Alicia SwedenborgAli and Sammi met (twice) in the fall of 2013, when they were both students at NYU Law School. Their first meeting took place at an event at the Stonewall Inn, hosted by the law school’s LGBT student group, aptly named “OUTLaw”, where, according to Ali, her very obvious romantic advances were rebuffed, and according to (apparently oblivious) Sammi, a cute girl with a cool haircut was trying to make friends with her. When the ladies rendez-vous’d a second time (at – where else? – a school dance), thanks to the help of some mutual friends, the sparks were much more obvious. Sammi proposed first, just over two years later, while bringing Ali her weekly Saturday morning coffee in bed, and Ali returned the favor a week later, popping the question at the Met, in front of a gorgeous wall of windows looking out onto Central Park.

The couple, now both lawyers, live together in Greenwich Village, and wanted an engagement shoot that captured the spirit of the neighborhood where they live and where they fell in love. With the help of photographer Alicia Swedenborg, the ladies were able to realize their vision of a cozy downtown NYC winter wonderland shoot.

We Found the Ultimate New York City Wedding

Every now and then a wedding comes across your desk that stops you dead in your tracks. I call them the weddings with the trifecta of pretty – beautiful photography, fresh design moments, and a bride and groom whose love practically leaps off the page. The incredible Heather Waraksa and ever swoon joined forces for this Manhattan affair and the result is ALL of the above. Scroll on for taxi cab place cards, cronut favors, and don’t miss the sweet words written by the groom.

From the Groom… Arielle and I got engaged at the Plaza Hotel under the guise of a very over the top staycation. Having grown up in New York, I felt like it was only appropriate for our engagement and later our wedding to touch upon iconic New York if possible. I had the hotel set up our room to include champagne and originally had asked the concierge to just throw a few flowers about the room (nothing spelled out or anything) as I continued to think that the proposal part would be a surprise for Arielle (I should have realized that how do you sell the woman you are dating that a staycation at The Plaza hotel after dating for years wouldn’t have something more to it!) We walk into the room and spelled out on the bed is “I ❤️ u” in rose petals…well if I thought there was any surprise left, I immediately got down on one knee and asked her to marry me!

When we started to look for our wedding venue, that same New York sentiment kept playing in our heads. We looked at quite a few venues that definitely had that New York vibe but once we saw the rooftop where we would hold the ceremony at TriBeCa Rooftop, we knew it was the spot for us. Now as you can imagine, the rooftop is located in TriBeCa, and it has the most amazing view of New York in both directions. To the south, there is a backdrop of One World Trade Center and to the north the Empire State Building. The idea of getting married while surrounded by the entire New York skyline at sunset was all we needed.

From there, we put everything else together with a similar theme – from our invitations, which was a custom watercolor drawing of the street we live on in Greenwich Village, to the taxi cab place card holders. We decided that as our last piece to the wedding, we had to have Dominique Ansel Cronuts (a cross between a croissant and a donut, for which people usually wait on line for hours to get!) at our wedding as we love Dominique Ansel and thought that it would be a super fun NYC gift to all of our guests who most likely would never be able to get one otherwise. Arielle was so intent on making this happen, that while at his store in the West Village she wrote him a note on the back of a receipt begging to find a way to have 250 fresh cronuts at TriBeCa Rooftop on the day of our wedding. To our amazement, the store manager came over and told us that it would be their honor and the rest was history!

Arielle wanted to add a serious fall vibe to our fall wedding and with the help of Amy Febinger of Bourgeon picked out an entire scheme to decorate the wedding. The evening started with cream and peach hued flowers that made up the chuppah at the ceremony. Beautiful hand-made copper silks tied all of the bouquets together matching the copper lanterns lining the aisle. As we got ready to hold the ceremony, the skyline was set afire by the light from the setting sun over the Hudson River to our west. Simon and Garfunkel started playing and we were ready to take our stroll down the aisle.

As most people who have been a bride or groom will tell you, the wedding goes by incredibly fast. Like lightning fast. A week or two before the wedding, we had both been told this numerous times and given advice like “make sure you don’t miss it while caught up in everything”. After hearing this enough times, we made sure in the middle of the wedding while everyone was out on the dance floor to sneak away for just two minutes and to have it all by ourselves. We snuck up the stairs to the balcony overlooking the entire venue and sat just the two of us watching. I remember soaking in the music and watching all of our friends dancing, noticing where all of our family members were scattered about the room. It was the first moment all night that we felt like we really had to ourselves to hold hands, to actually take a moment and to see everyone who was there even if it was from a distance. I am so glad I actually listened as its the clearest memory of the entire whirlwind of a night.

From the bride… When Edward and I envisioned our wedding, we imagined a quiet indoor/outdoor setting away from the normal hustle and bustle of New York City. We started exploring venues in the nearby Westchester County suburbs, and quickly settled on Caramoor as our venue of choice. With its sprawling gardens and 250-person tent, Caramoor matched the setting we’d been seeking. The tent offered cover and shade, while the surrounding outdoor space allowed our guests to explore the peaceful countryside setting. We wanted our event to feel like an extension of the gardens around us, and our team at the Wedding Library and Elegant Effects did a great job bringing that concept to life. Throughout our wedding festivities, we sought to celebrate my Filipino heritage. We hosted an engagement party in Manila, the men wore traditional barongs during the rehearsal, the material and patterning of our tablecloths paid tribute to traditional pineapple-fiber fabrics used at formal Filipino events, and my gown was made by Filipina designer Monique Lhullier,

I can’t stress enough how amazing our vendors were throughout the planning process and during the big day itself! The Wedding Library diligently maintained our vision while ensuring the day’s plans went off without a hitch. In addition to making me and my bridesmaids feel and look beautiful, the women at Beautini helped set a relaxed tone for the day. The staff at Caramoor and the caterer, Great Performances, did everything they could to keep us happy (and well fed — serving us one of every delicious hors d’oeuvre before joining our guests!). Rob and Soulsystem kept our guests entertained had us dancing throughout the night. Charlotte captured our day so beautifully and put me at ease whenever I felt self-conscious in front of the camera. We were very fortunate to have such excellent vendors, and I would advise any future bride to choose hers carefully. They can have a substantial behind-the-scenes impact on wedding day, and ours allowed Edward and I to focus on what truly mattered — celebrating our love and enjoying the company of our friends and family!
