Rainy Lake Placid Wedding from Clark+Walker Studios

They say rain on your wedding day brings good luck. We say rain on your wedding day brings a cozy atmosphere with a special kind of beauty that CAN NOT be matched. And of course, we’re sure it brings good luck too. It was definitely good fortune that Clark+Walker Studios was on hand to capture the beautiful day for this lucky couple. And good fortune to us that we have a full image gallery to cozy up in all day!

Our wedding took place on a pouring rain day in Lake Placid, NY at The Lake Placid Lodge. It was very difficult for me, as the bride, to comprehend that I had planned for 18 months and my wedding that I had been picturing in a certain way was not going to be exactly as planned. The ceremony was suppose to take place on the lawn by the lake facing the mountain my husband proposed and the cocktail reception to follow was going to be on a dock full of rugs and rustic lounge furniture. Being a perfectionist, I was bummed but tried to put it out of my head. Needless to say, everything went smoothly – even given all the new locations for ceremony & cocktail hour.

One of the most memorable experiences during the wedding occurred before the ceremony even began – it was putting on that gorgeous Oscar gown and seeing the whole picture together & of course having that emotional moment with my Dad.

Then it was time to toast and freshen up one last time before me and all my ladies walked down the aisle! All the girls were lined up inside right outside the long, rustic porch The Lake Placid Lodge provided as a backup location. It was decorated exactly as I imagined the outside location to be! They even took a mum and stuck my “Ford Wedding” sign in it so no detail would be missed! As I waited in the elevator for my groom to get to the alter I was nervous and slightly panicked! As soon as I stepped out and saw my dream come true and my dad to walk me down the aisle – all was calm and the fun was about the begin!

I turned the corner to 65 closest family and friends, wooden chairs made from local artisans covered in blankets for the 50 degree rainy day, my birch cones full of hydrageas and other beautiful florals matching my bridesmaid bouquets, a wood burning fireplace, rustic rugs covering the deck, pack baskets overflowing with branches and flowers and of course my wonderful husband at the end of the aisle.

Christopher looked amazing – he is a guy that likes to be comfortable but look good! Boy did he ever – he had a very non-traditional assemble on.He even kept his beard of now three years and it really completed the picture. The best part of it all is I got to be “me” and he got to be “him”.

The ceremony was short, non-traditional but oh so sweet – we read our vows to one another and then it was time. I wasn’t even thinking about it at the time I just know we had to hold that kiss for a photo opp. Then before I knew it he had thrown me to his side and we a princess worthy first kiss! My guests all threw up leaves I had provided in clear envelopes (picked fresh two days before) at that moment.

My first look at the reception room screamed romantic rustic fairytale! The way the flowers were arranged reminded me of the light and flowiness of my gown, Everything was so clean cut and beautiful. We had the cones from the ceremony reused in the lounge areas & wooden kissing balls that lit up above everyone seated for dinner. Everything at that moment came together for me. But it was ONLY a moment – we didn’t have a minute to sit down when Alisha, the photographer ran up to me saying it was suppose to stop raining for 15 minutes!

After that I was satisfied and as far as I was concerned it was time to celebrate! We did our first dance to a choreographed mash up of Justin Timberlake – My Love and Lovestoned. We had a dessert display of a small cake to cut, donuts, candied apples, cobblers, cider, brownies and cupcakes to fit our fall rustic theme. At the end of the night – everyone dug into the pizza we served before everyone went off to bed! It was a great night and a memorable day to last a life time!

From Jason of Jason Walz PhotographyAs a photographer, what makes weddings amazing are the ever-changing landscape of details and the variety of people with whom I work. Each wedding offers the observers and participants a chance to reflect and learn, as well as to celebrate. At Sarah and Justin’s wedding, one thing that struck me was the positive energy that was exuded by the parents of the couple. Their support and joy was infectious to the guests and amplified the happiness of Sarah and Justin. I met Sarah’s mother, Jo Ann, during their photography search. She shared Sarah’s enthusiasm and sense of style, and I could tell she was the ideal partner for helping Sarah plan her wedding. These facts, as well as her incredible spirit, were notable from the start. I was thrilled when I was hired as the photographer. Not surprisingly, Sarah and Jo Ann planned an amazing event, which was held in Westhampton, New York, at Oceanbleu. Sarah looked gorgeous in her Reem Acra gown, and Justin was dashing in his J.Crew tuxedo. Their ceremony on the beach was both elegant and casual, with big smiles and laughter. This sensibility carried on throughout the reception, culminating in a late night bonfire on the beach to cut the autumn chill.

Garrison, New York Wedding by Christian Oth Studio

My heart leapt the moment I opened up this treasure of a wedding from Sue Kessler of Christian Oth Studio. Leapt with pure adoration for the couple, leapt with love for each meaningfully moment and leapt at that thought of sharing it with all of you. It also did a flip or two for the brides gorgeous, custom made wedding gown and RED reception dress from the company she co-founded, Bensoni. To DIE for. It’s all to die for actually, and you can see all the reasons why in the full gallery of gorgeous!

From the Bride… I wanted my wedding to be classy and elegant and most importantly meaningful. I believe that a wedding is a very sacred and serious, yet happy and joyous occasion, and I wanted mine to represent all of that. I didn’t have a planner and worked on my own with the help of m husband, my vendors and, of course, SMP! As a fashion designer and co-founder of the women’s clothing line Bensoni, I decided to design my wedding dress as well as the red reception dress, the ruffle white cocktail dress and also all of the bridesmaids dresses. I loved the colors I chose for my bridesmaids, as they represented each of their personalities and felt that it also went well with a May wedding.

I secretly took private lessons with my bridesmaids of a Korean traditional court dance that was danced by the Queen and her court ladies for the king as a gift to my husband, his parents and my parents. I am Korean and my husband is Taiwanese, so I wanted to do something that is culturally Korean. My mother used to be a Korean traditional dancer at a young age so it was a dedication to her as well. I also designed our wedding logo. It is of a rooster on top of a sheep, which represents the Chinese zodiac signs of my husband (sheep) and me (rooster). We loved the logo so much that we decided to put it on everything! The large mirrored window was a purchase from Etsy. I had wrote all the names of our guests the night before our wedding, and my husband wrote everyone’s names on each menu. This felt more personal than hiring a calligrapher.

From Ara Farnam of Rock Paper Scissors EventsGabi and Dan were looking for a sophisticated, soft feel for their wedding, and they wanted to work with a muted palette of creams, slate, gray-blue and soft green. The grays and greens were picked up beautifully by the succulents we used as accents throughout, and the flowers by Rebecca Shepherd were just spot on. We used fabric to transform the space in an easy and inexpensive way. We wrapped a sage green silk fabric around the brown leather benches in the interior space to bring them into our palette, and we used a soft cream fabric to mask the poles in the tent. Both helped to soften the existing elements in the Foundry and were subtle details that helped with the overall soft effect the couple was after. Dan, the groom, created a monogram logo for their invitations, which was carried through in their menus and programs to create a cohesive feel to the wedding with recurring images.

Central Park Proposal by Katie Markquart Photography

Oh, how I LOVE a romantic proposal story – and this sweet, sweet scene in Central Park has stolen my heart in EVERY WHICH WAY.  The morning winter stroll, the surprise “Will You Marry Me,” the resounding “YES!”… seriously – does it get any more perfect than this?!?  Lucky for us, Katie Markquart Photography captured every romantic movie-esque moment – and followed it up with a cute as can be engagement shoot for us all to peruse.  Thursday morning never looked so good.  Click here for more.

From Katie Markquart PhotographyBilly and Allison came to New York for a vacation at the end of January. Little did Allison know, she was going to leave New York an engaged woman. Billy asked for my help to capture the exact moment he asked Allison to become his wife. He had decided that he wanted to propose on Bow Bridge in Central Park. The morning was sunny but cold, which was wonderful because hardly anybody was in the park, meaning we were able to get shots that you typically can’t because of all the people. It was such a sweet moment when he got down on his knee and Allison turned around to see him. Her hands instantly went up to her face because she was so surprised. She immediately wanted to call her family to share the good news. Afterward, we did a short engagement session in the park to commemorate their special day.

Washingtonville Wedding by Ulysses Photography

Good morning, lovelies and a very happy Wedding Wednesday to you!  We hope you are ready for a day filled with pretty, because we have SEVEN dazzling soirees in our lineup today – and they are all set to seriously amaze AND inspire you.  So, sit back, relax and prepare for a morning, noon and night of gorgeous weddings.  It’s going to be awesome.

Up first in our pretty parade is a warm and cozy Washingtonville affair that is here to remind us just why we L.O.V.E winter weddings.  With a plethora of sweet vintage details and beyond dreamy images by Ulysses Photography, even a surprise blizzard couldn’t dampen this darling duo’s day.  Nope, they took advantage of the snowy weather and filled the ENTIRE venue with magical candlelight and a whole lot of ROMANCE – and we are in love with the whole shebang.  Click here for more.

From the Bride… Brandon and I both love the beautiful fall foliage and crisp weather, so what could be better than getting married outside surrounded by the beauty of the New York Hudson Valley in October? Together Brandon and I stuffed over 300 bags of caramel apples, candy corn and apple cider donuts for our guests to take home, and my brother carved pumpkins for the porch. We designed most of the wedding ourselves, from our table seating chart to our menus and programs.

On the morning of our wedding we realized it was truly going to be a historic day … due to a record-breaking blizzard! Despite the snow and high winds, the day was filled with beauty and warmth. We couldn’t have selected a better (or more accommodating!) venue to be caught in a blizzard — the vintage charm of the house and glowing fireplaces graced with our old family wedding photos made Round Hill the coziest and most intimate place to be snowed in. It was a very unique setting — our wedding still felt like fall on the inside, but peeking through the windows revealed a picturesque winter wonderland. We worried that many of our guests would not be able to make it and for a time wondered if our wedding could still go on. But when I walked down the aisle and saw a room full of guests, I was overwhelmed with love. So many of our friends and family braved the blizzard, some driving many hours in dangerous conditions, to celebrate our marriage. The ceremony was moved inside, but the candlelit room with the snow falling behind us felt absolutely magical. When the ceremony was over, everyone found their way to the dance floor to let loose (just the way we wanted it!) largely assisted by our band, Bud Maltin Metropolitan Music (miraculously all 9 of them!) playing non-stop, amazing live music.

Rachel and Merry of Fleur-Di-Re Custom Floral and Event Design, really helped to bring my vision to life. They used varying antique gold vases and table numbers with garden roses, seeded eucalyptus, ranunculus and hydrangea and wrapped the bouquets and boutonnieres in bark twine. I wanted a vintage romantic feel with a fall twist, and I couldn’t have dreamed of a more fitting floral design. When my Grandma passed away less than three months before the wedding, I changed my entire floral concept to incorporate her favorite flower, the rose. When I saw how beautiful everything turned out, I immediately thought of her, and felt like she was there. My favorite detail of the day was the rose-shaped locket I carried attached to my bouquet with a picture of her and I inside. On the morning of our wedding day, Brandon surprised me by sending our photographers, Jenni and Ulysses of Ulysses Photography, to my hotel suite to photograph me opening my amazing engraved watch (a surprise gift from him!). From that moment forward, this incredibly friendly, passionate and wildly talented husband-and-wife duo really captured the raw emotion of a remarkably unforgettable day in beautiful and unique photographs — the snow was no obstacle for them. Ulysses ran right out there in the middle of a blizzard to get the perfect shots! Having Jenni and Ulysses photograph our wedding was a pleasure — they felt like part of the family. And you would never know all the madness that went on that day by looking at the pictures … you can see they are truly magical!

From the Groom… Meghan and I approached the wedding process with a very balanced strategy: she would plan, I would not. This was not due to any lack of effort on my part, but primarily because of Meghan’s incredibly organized personality and my general ineptitude. This game plan left me with a few responsibilities that I felt strongly about — primarily the photographer and the food — both of which we could not be happier about. But I digress, and will get back to that later. The biggest hurdle in our planning was finding a venue. We spent several weekends looking at an obscene number of locations, and coincidentally, in the end returned to the very first place we looked at: Bridgewaters in the South Street Seaport. We both knew what we wanted in a venue: a view, outdoor space, good food and an open feel. Bridgewaters definitely had all of these – an outdoor patio, a view of the Brooklyn Bridge, a main room with a high ceiling and delicious food. Being from San Francisco, most of my family/guests were coming from the west coast, and even some from Korea – so I really wanted to make sure that they were able to get the quintessential New York experience. I also want to note that we got married on Friday, October 28th. There were torrential downpours the night of Thursday, October 27th AND it snowed on Saturday, October 29th, but we could not have been luckier, as it was crystal clear that Friday, and we took full advantage of the fortuitous weather and were able to spend some time on the outdoor patio. The highlight of my day, besides the whole getting married thing, was when Meghan and I entered the cocktail hour prior to most of the guests, and she surprised me with our cake topper that looked like us standing in San Francisco with a miniature golden gate bridge in the background (with cable cars, etc.), and me in my beloved San Francisco Giants hat. It truly was one of the defining moments of that day for me.

The reception itself was perfect. My biggest fear was that Meghan wouldn’t be able to enjoy her own wedding. The support staff at Bridgewaters made sure that everything ran smoothly. Our day-of planner Tzo Ai was a godsend. She was on top of every detail the entire day, and I truly think that if it weren’t for her, things would have been much more stressful for both Meghan and me. The last two major highlights of the night for Meghan and I were our band, the Touch, and our photographer, Julia Newman. The Touch sounded unbelievable, and I cannot tell you how much people raved about them. And going back to my other major responsibility, our photographer, Julia Newman, was amazing. Julia was so good at making sure that we got all of our family pictures efficiently and that we were able to get a multitude of different shots, whether with the bridal party or just Meghan and me. In addition, not only was she great on the day of, she is also great in making sure that any follow up is attended to in a timely fashion — we have already received our print book and will be receiving our album shortly. One thing that I really wanted to mention was our photo booth. This was one thing that Meghan and I had gone back and forth on, as it does cost a little extra, but looking back, we could not have been happier with our decision to have a photo booth. It was worth every penny, and our only regret is not spending more time “in” it.

Overall, I know that these aren’t typically written from the groom’s perspective, so I apologize for my general sarcasm and cynicism, but I do hope that it is abundantly clear that Meghan and I truly had one of the best days of our lives and would not change a single thing.

Well Spun Weddings worked their magic and captured all the elegance of the day!

From the bride… The day that I married my best friend and soul mate Jeff officially made it up to the top of my “best days of my life” list. As cliché as it sounds, it’s the truth. The wedding day couldn’t have been any more perfect. The sun was brilliant and bright, and a perfect September breeze swept through the air. Perhaps the sun dance my girlfriends and I stomped and chanted several weeks prior worked! The weather wasn’t the only perfect thing about the day. It was a culmination of every little piece of our lives coming together and falling perfectly into place on that ONE special day. It was no longer visualizing and fearing the walk down the aisle and exchange of vows, but walking it with peace and ease on my fathers arm and reciting my vows with honesty and love. It was our treasured friends and family from across the country and world who joined together in love and happiness. It was all of the décor I had spent sleepless nights thinking about, and spent days creating on our apartment floor, that took on life. It was the countless concept planning meetings with vendors that became real.

Speaking of vendors, we couldn’t have chosen a better team. About seven years ago, one of the editors at the magazine I was working at came back from her wedding with the most beautifully captured photographs. Although I hadn’t yet met Jeff at the time, I wrote the photographer Charlotte Jenks Lewis’s name down and swore to myself the day I got engaged that I’d hire her — and you better believe she was the first person I hired when beginning my vendor search. The venue on the other hand was our toughest. We searched for six months and looked at 30+ venues in two states, but things just weren’t adding up. Although Jeff and I both live in Manhattan and live and breathe city life, our hearts both remain true to nature. Many of the venues we’d looked at certainly had the beauty of nature, but the reception sites themselves were a bit too rustic, to say the least. It seemed impossible to find an elegant venue in the middle of acres of land — until a random Sunday drive when we accidentally discovered The Garrison. The moment we drove up the long, tree-lined driveway, we knew The Garrison was the venue we’ve been searching for. The glass walls of the reception room were the perfect clean backdrop to the beauty of the Hudson River and the 300 acres of trees that surround it. The décor had the elegant country vibe we had been searching for, and the staff and event coordinator Annie Rozycki were professional, friendly and a complete pleasure to work with. Once we booked the venue, the rest of our vendor search fell into place. We instantly fell in love with Steven Bruce Design, who created our whimsical floral designs and décor. We knew it was a match made in floral heaven the minute we discovered their vintage chic website with a banner running across saying “a little uptown, a little downtown, a little all around” — which fit our eclectic Manhattan/nature loving selves to a T.

From Lauren of Lauren Gabrielle PhotographyPaula and Emanuel were one of the most beautiful, fun and unique couples I have ever photographed. Just to give you an idea of how adventurous they were, we photographed their “first look” in the middle of a busy intersection in Manhattan, Paula practically took a midday bath in Central Park’s Bethesda Fountain, and they both ran through the sprinklers at their reception (before the reception began!). Their carefree attitude and their desire to enjoy every moment of their wedding day resulted in unforgettable moments and amazing photographs. In addition, Paula did an wonderful job choosing style and decor. Her lovely, elegant Lazaro gown complemented both the modern New York City background and the rustic ambiance of their Spanish villa-style venue. For the reception, this rustic ambiance was accented with peach tablecloths and striking centerpieces made of manzanita branches surrounded by orchids and garden roses. The bridesmaids wore gorgeous yet simple vintage pink dresses with ivory sashes purchased from Etsy. Their bouquets added a touch of lavender and further tied into the rustic theme. Overall, their wedding was unforgettable both in style and sentiment. I don’t have to tell you that Paula and Emanuel are crazy about each other — their photos and video speak for themselves!

Ithaca Wedding from Leo Timoshuk Photography

I’m not sure whats been going on with your weather, but we’ve had a pretty mild winter in my parts. So mild that weddings like this gorgeous New York affair have me watching out the window for Spring’s arrival, and the freshness that I can only hope is anything like this sweet soiree. Leo Timoshuk was the man behind the camera and he was able to capture a beautiful wedding for a very deserving couple. And we love him a little (okay a lot) for sharing it with us. Sharing ALL of it with us. Happy Leap Year LBBers!

It was an instant connection and feeling that I only saw portrayed in movies. Whenever we were together, I felt like our relationship was a chick-flick that had come to life. My heart felt as if it smiled every time I saw or talked to him, and his kisses would make me feel dizzy. Although I had moved to Florida from Central New York, 1,358 miles couldn’t keep Jeff and me apart. We spent months traveling back and forth to be with each other (and hundreds of dollars!), until I made the commitment to relocate back home to live with him and to begin our life together. Less than a year later, we were engaged and planning the wedding of our dreams!

A few months before our wedding, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and an auto-immune disease. Two surgeries and a radiation treatment later, my body was left feeling weak and sick, but my heart still felt strong and appreciative for the man that was with me throughout all of this, keeping me positive the whole time. At one point we had considered eloping and canceling the traditional wedding, but we knew we would regret that decision. I am very happy to say that on a perfect Saturday afternoon in August, surrounded by loving friends and family, we became Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Chitambar in a ceremony that combined our love of the outdoors with the beauty and simplicity of the country.

Thousands of miles, and a life threatening disease couldn’t keep us apart. The love that we share for one another gets stronger every day and the happiness radiates through our facial expressions. These photographs captured every detail from our dream wedding day, and on a day that is over before you know it, this is priceless. We will always have those to cherish, and to help remind us of the love that overcame the wedding that almost wasn’t.

Bryant Park Grill Wedding by Patricia Kantzos Photography

Hands down, one of the greatest wedding details I’ve come across is the cake centerpiece. at each and every table. GENIUS! It’s paired down elegance, totally scrumptious and makes for really happy guests. What is not to love with that scenario? Two Little Red Hens Bakery crafted a whole line-up of sweet treats for this New York wedding and it is all out perfection as seen through the lens of Patricia Kantzos Photography. See it all in the full gallery!

We aren’t done until the wedding film sings and this little ditty by Morelli Media is singing the loveliest of tunes. Plop down, kick your heals up and get cozy with this ode to love…

From the bride… Even though Seth and I had been together for many years before getting engaged and I had known I wanted to marry him from our very first date, I had not given much thought to my “dream” wedding. I’m from California, and Seth is from Georgia, but we decided that we’d like to be get married in New York City since that is where our life together began. Once we found our venue, Bryant Park Grill, the wedding began to take shape, and I started to create a very sophisticated but fun wedding in the heart of NYC. We’d been to many great weddings together, and Seth and I talked about the things we remembered most about them. Seth wanted different flavored cakes on every table and a live band. I wanted lush flowers and a pizza truck waiting outside at the end of the night for the quintessential New York midnight snack. We both wanted an open bar and a Saturday evening fete. I loved the idea of mixing elements of Bryant Park and the city into our wedding. Our ceremony took place on the rooftop of the Grill, shadowed by the New York City Public Library, skyscrapers, and The Empire State Building peeking up from a few blocks away. The sun set just as our cocktail hour began and the lit cityscape became a beautiful backdrop to the beginning of the night. Our reception was in the Grill, where a wall of windows looked out onto Bryant Park and the carousel. Our fabulous florist, Vanessa from Verde Flowers, created wild bouquets for the bridal party and the tables using some of the same vines that are found in the park. The band, Around Town Entertainment, got the party started right away and some of my greatest memories are of seeing our friends and family dancing and sweating together.

Our wedding party and families stayed at the Bryant Park Hotel, which is right across from The Grill and extremely convenient. We could hop from room to room for visits, and I could watch out my window as the rooftop of The Grill was transformed into our ceremony space. The staffs at the hotel and The Grill were very accommodating and professional. Even though I didn’t hire an event planner specifically for our wedding, Tom, the event manager at the Grill, kept the evening flowing and checked in with us throughout the night. Thanks to him, I was able to enjoy the evening and not worry about the details.

It was the perfect wedding for us. We still talk about all of our memories from the weekend. Being surrounded by everyone we love in the heart of the city where we met made an already incredible day all the more memorable.

From Carla of Carla Ten EyckMartin and I were in the same Photo 1 class at Rochester Institute of Technology back in 1991 and have remained close friends EVER SINCE! I have since photographed three of our classmate’s weddings all over the country, and Martin was the last one in our group to be married. One of the group photos is all of our friends from RIT with our spouses. To be a part of his wedding was an incredible honor. You will see a lot of me in the photos, as I was both a guest and the photographer! I brought in my reinforcements, the amazing Mike Romano and super sweet Julie Morawski, so I could do double duty. The highlight of the day was the impromptu stop at the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park in the city. The Shake Shack was so sweet, and brought over a celebratory prosecco on the house!

From Dawn + Melina of DM Events… We fell in love with Pam & Martin’s creativity right from the start!  Their style of Scandinavian-meets-Valentine’s Day was totally unique, and we had a blast creating their special day. They are both creative people, so we knew we had to really account for every design detail. We started with a totally white palette – white chairs, white linen, white chargers, white flowers. Then we added small, but bold, pops of color in the chair and table number designs – possibly our two favorite elements! The table numbers were created using arrangements of candles in the center of the table on a red lacquer tray wrapped with gunmetal stationery bearing a painted number. We love that Pam and Martin trusted us to go outside the box to create a centerpiece without flowers! To soften the look, we added a grouping of lush white flowers to either side of the table number and filled it in with tons of candles! Hanging from the back of each white chair, we added a strand of red hearts — we are not sure this could have been any sweeter. With a wedding three days before Valentine’s Day, romance was certainly in the air.

As we worked on other details for the big day, we all kept talking about our love of the red lacquer trays, so we knew we were going to need more of them!  In order to keep the simplicity of the design intact, we decided to use them sparingly, placing them on the escort card to display the amazing seating chart from Paperfinger and on the dessert bar (which was totally yummy!). The best part of the night was seeing Pam and Martin on the dance floor — at the end of the day, having fun with the one you love is what weddings are all about!

From the Bride… Alex and I were married almost exactly three months ago at the Central Park Boathouse in New York City. It was a gorgeous day, and we had a traditional Western non-denominational ceremony followed by the Persian “sofreh aghd” ceremony. We infused my Persian heritage into many aspects of the wedding, including having a traditional Persian “knife dance” during the cake cutting. My nieces and female family members danced with the knife (really the server) used to cut the cake and teased the bride and groom until the groom finally paid my niece, who was the last one holding the knife/server. The whole night was filled with so much love, laughter and dancing, and Magic Flute Videos did such a great job catching the spirit of the day that I thought I would share!

From the bride… The things we love to do, eat, and experience inspired our wedding style. We love playing games (Nabil’s proposal was an online scavenger hunt he created around the city before finally ending up at Bryant Park). We love to laugh and have fun — there’s never a dull moment. The Invisible Dog name in and of itself embraces that idea. We wanted to bring different cultures and people together and have a celebration that everyone (from kids to elders) would enjoy and remember. We strove to make our wedding feel homey and personal in many ways — from our personalized wedding invitations made by my brother and homemade pom poms/pinwheels to handwritten signs and personalized trivia cards. Our guests could look around and see all the details and understand how they embodied us. We are big foodies and love to eat. We believe that food creates experiences and so the food we chose helped to capture not only favorite foods but also foods that bring back memories. Some of our hor d’oeuvres were specially designed for us, for example one was a pan-fried taro cake, a typical chinese dim sum food we love. We also had two Mr. cocktails and two Mrs. cocktails that showcase our favorite drinks. The names that were made up for them are either our nicknames by our friends, nicknames for each other, or characterize a sentiment. Our seating cards hanging on the bottles had a ginger limeade inside that Crave created for us since that’s our favorite summer time drink.

The officiant was our close friend Shu-ping, who we asked to become an officiant just for our wedding. Not only did he deliver an amazing ceremony full of witty remarks, quotes, and metaphors, but also even included lines from Finding Nemo just to make us laugh and smile because they’re my favorite parts. What made the ceremony something a little different was that we asked Shu-ping to use an iPad instead of a book of some sort. This helped to characterize Nabil (geek/techy personality), as well as showcase our wedding as something a little different and fun. When I told my elementary school students about that, some joked and asked if Shu-ping was playing Angry Birds during the wedding. Our vows were written by ourselves so those were a surprise to read to one another. I think the photos really captured the raw emotions that came from listening to them for the first time. We also had hand-punched confetti for everyone to throw at the end.

My friend Jen made two types of cookies — chocolate chip and shortbread (Nabil’s favorite kinds). I made the other two treats — double chocolate walnut biscotti and compost cookies (my personal favorites). Our cake was a marble cake — yellow to represent me being Asian, brown to represent Nabil being Bangladeshi and marbled to show how we mix together. We had a flash mob that we specifically choreographed by my good friend Lauren Yasuda Rainey. She even created a Youtube video of herself in order to send it to all those participating so that we could all learn the dance. We used the photographs taken with a polaroid camera as our guest sign in book. Dinner was served family style to get people to interact with one another and feel like a true family. This was also reinforced by having long tables all connected to one another, having trivia cards about us on the tables, and having table signs that shared snippets of our relationship.

From Ang Weddings & EventsOur styled shoot was held at a gorgeous town house in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The 10,000-square-foot Queen Anne mansion was built in 1887 as a private residence and later used by the Brooklyn Public Library, a Catholic girls’ school, and eventually a recording studio, with rooms rented out to Pratt students. The house is a private residence, which is available only on a selective basis for intimate weddings. The house and the incredible pieces of art it contains were a great source of inspiration for our shoot. We wanted to create a winter inspiration shoot with a contemporary aesthetic. To give it that winter feel, we used different shades of white and gray. We also added an accent of teal, which was inspired by one of the rooms in the house. The letterpressed invitations, designed by Regas, used the bold patterns of a wooden tray as inspiration. We kept the font simple and bold, with a bright splash of teal in the envelope liner. Regas continued this design through the escort cards, place cards, menus and signs. The tables were named for different Brooklyn neighborhoods.

For the table linens, we used a white cotton underlay and a charcoal gray crystal organza on top. Rountree Flowers kept the floral design modern by using a single type of flower in each square white container. The centerpieces were composed of narcissus, ranunculus and the akito rose. Quince branches, which are available in winter, were used to give the table some height and add to the visual impact. We used frosted square votives to bring warmth to the table. Elegant eucharis lilies were placed on the mantelpiece over the ornate fireplace. Square pillar candles of varying sizes in clear square glass containers surrounded the lilies.  The mirror above the mantelpiece faces another mirror in the hallway.  The flickering candlelight reflecting in the glass containers and mirrors multiplied the effect much more, giving the room a romantic glow. Naturally Delicious created a selection of tasty hors d’oeuvres, including a smoked bacon and polenta panini with mozzarella and basil aioli.  These were arranged on crystal agate and porcelain platters. Our winter white dessert table included a Tahitian vanilla wedding cake with white chocolate mousse with passion fruit and raspberry sauce.

Our models for the shoot were a recently married couple, Abbi and Luke, both comedians. Abbi’s elegant satin gown — Genevieve by Angelo Lambrou — was structured with clean lines giving it a contemporary feel. Her bouquet was composed of French ranunculus, frittilaria and double freesia, wrapped with a silk teal ribbon. Duncan Quinn creates impeccably tailored bespoke suits. Luke wore a blue birdseye suit from their limited-edition ready-to-wear line. His boutonniere was a single eucharis lily with a gray ribbon. The favors were different sweet treats in white boxes of varying size.  We wrapped the boxes with different silver and white ribbons. The idea being that you picked a box that you liked the look of, and the treat inside was a surprise! Our photographer, Karen Wise, made the beautiful portraits, food and still life images. Karen used mostly film for the shoot, adding to the juxtaposition of a modern design in a historic venue, creating a classic look with vibrant colour.  Love in Progress filmed a documentary style video of the shoot coming together.

Backyard Storybook-Inspired Photo Shoot by Frost Photography

The end of winter is in our sights and I, for one, can’t wait for the start of spring but this lovely photo shoot is sure to make the last few frosty weeks a little more bearable.  Lucky for us, we have all weekend to get lost in this winter fairytale inspiration created by Frost Photography with MustardSEEDevents and a whole bunch of other uber-talented New York vendors.  I’m totally looking forward to spending from now until Monday submersed in all the whimsy and romance they created.  See it all in the full gallery!

From Caroline of Frost PhotographyWho hasn’t fantasized about being lost in a fairy tale, disappearing into a different era or even living in a fantasy world with our favorite characters? The idea of time travel is a theme with universal romantic appeal and is an experience that can only be matched by reading a book. We New York vendors were inspired to create a wedding inspiration shoot that gave the sense of being lost in a favorite work of literature. Because of the winter season, we decided to give it a rustic, woodsy twist, traveling only a few hours from the city to the timbered upstate New York. What we created is a whimsical, romantic winter look that is easy and affordable for any bride to achieve on her wedding day.

Like the pages of a book,  our shoot did not have a lot of color. Instead, we focused on neutrals like black and white and gray with a touch of silvery blue for the icy winter and blush pink to add romance and the hope of spring. Library card escort cards are the perfect way to invite your guests into your storybook wedding!  Display them like we did in old drawers, or even in a chest of apothecary drawers like traditional library cards. We used books as a key part of our centerpiece, which gave it such a classic romantic look and is as affordable as looking through the attic or picking up some $1 books at your local used book store. The table runner was made from the yellowing pages of an old paperback and is an easy DIY project for any bride!  We ripped pages out of the book, laid them out over the floor hodge-podge (about half the width of the table) and simply glued the edges into place with craft glue.

Bare branches are a great money-saver and can have the same chic elegance as an expensive, dramatic floral arrangements. MustardSEEDevents incorporated some tiny tea roses into the branch arrangements to mimic budding branches (a more affordable way of achieving the look than buying blossoming branches out of season) and which gives that sense that spring is on its way! To give the shoot a vintage feel,  we used a vintage dress and jewelry and headpieces from Preston & Olivia, coupled with cable knit sweaters and wool coats to give it a rustic edge. Our models Ramon and Asiya have been happily married for more than five years, and their love shines through in every picture. This gorgeous pair were happy to be a part of the shoot, and because they’ve never had professional wedding pictures, we were so thrilled to be able to gift them these.

Geneva Wedding by Mabyn Ludke Photography

Mabyn Ludke Photography is so, so right when she says this couple seems to have stepped right out of a movie. Their big day was so gorgeous, and they were so glamourous, we’re all a little green with envy over the stylish affair. And to get our full admiration on, we’re spending the day in the full image gallery – care to join us?

From Mabyn of Mabyn Ludke Photography When I drove into Geneva on the Lake, my jaw hit the floor of my little white Mazda! My eyes could not believe the splendor in front of me. David and his brother greeted me in the parking lot like old friends. He was dressed to the nines in his black suit and looked like he should be sipping cocktails with high society, yet there was an undeniable excitement about him. It was easy to see why when I met Cori in her absolutely amazing Maggie Sottero gown. Both of them had stepped right out of the movies into my life! I was in photographer’s heaven!

Their ceremony was set on the edge of Seneca Lake with a stunning view and was full of the simple sentiment of their love. I had expected to spend a lot of time taking large family pictures, but Cori and David opted to do just a few close family shots and then went off to get their Next Top Model on! We spent a good part of an hour just hanging out with the two of them, getting some of my favorite shots of the summer! When they finally made their entrance into their black and white-themed reception, the excitement that David had before the ceremony was amplified by all of their family & friends cheering them on in celebration of their love! The rest of the day was filled with outdoor activities, amazing food, dancing, and photo shoots, photo shoots, photo shoots! Cori and David even had a full costume change into Hollywood Glam-inspired outfits. I loved how Cori’s second dress mimicked her Maggie Sottero gown. Everything was elegant and gorgeous! When they entered their reception for the second time, they were greeted by Emad Batayeh and his extremely talented band. The energy didn’t quit even when the music stopped — the joy Cori and David felt overflowed into sentiments and goodbyes. I felt so lucky and blessed to be a part of their day! I still get a giant grin on my face when thinking about it all!

East Hampton Wedding from Karen Hill Photography

Though this East Hampton wedding was warm enough for the stunning bride to don a strapless gown on the beach, the colors and feel of the day evoke the perfect ambiance for today’s wintery air. The always fabulous Karen Hill Photography was the lady behind the lens, and boy are we glad she was. She captured the elegant beauty of this wedding phenomenally. Make sure to save time for the rest right here in the full image gallery!

The first time Matt and I went to East Hampton, NY for a mini-vacation, I fell in love with a church at the town entrance. One year later, we were saying our vows in front of close friends and family in that exact church. Our story, however, began eight years earlier at Williams College where we were in the same circle of friends but only started really spending time together our Junior year. The summer before our Senior year on campus we started dating. From there we went to New York City and have never left each other’s sides.

When Matt proposed on our first trip together to California, I immediately started thinking about the church that I had fallen in love with. For our wedding day, we both knew that family and friends would be the most integral piece. I’m the oldest of six and Matt is one of three so our families are a major constant in our relationship. I grew up going to the Hamptons every summer and knew that I wanted to incorporate our summer home in Quogue into the weekend celebration. With Quogue as our weekend start point, we finalized plans for the ceremony at St. Luke’s Episcopal and the reception at The Maidstone Club, both in East Hampton, NY.

The inspiration for our wedding was found in the setting itself. Getting ready in my home incorporated family in every way. The warm colors and environment of the church combined with the scale of The Maidstone was a reminder of the intimacy we wanted our guests to feel while in an elegant setting. We incorporated a lot of white combined with silver and greys to capture the muted tones of the beach in Fall. Then of course, we had some splashes of purple as a nod to our college colors.

Small details like our guestbook of Hamptons scenery and the comfort food at the after-party we hoped would impart the love and care that we had put into planning this weekend. Jill Gordon Celebrate was with us every step of the way. With Jill’s guidance and advice, and of course coordination considering we were coming from all over the island, we were able to have the wedding of our dreams.
