Brooklyn Wedding from Jenelle Kappe Photography

Inspired by all things Brooklyn, this couple looked no further than their local surroundings to hand-craft a sweet day of nuptials. It’s an affair so stylish (hello gorgeous lace dress) and filled with meaningful details (hello sea of papel picado) that make for a wedding so personalized and uniquely them.  Captured by Jenelle Kappe Photography, see more of these two lovey love birds + their pup and their day of merriment in the full gallery.

From the Bride… We meet in 2008 at an art event. I was involved with someone at the time so I did not pay too much attention to him. We connected added each other on Facebook, saw each other at another event two weeks later, and that was it. Fast forward to Valentine’s Day weekend 2010 — we were both single. He posted something regarding music, and I responded. With that, we began corresponding via tweets, emails and text. A few weeks later we had our first date. It was supposed to be a concert, but the act canceled, so we met up for happy hour and ended up nearly closing the bar. From that day on, we just kept going. Six months later (this being NYC with its crazy-high rents), his roommate moved out and I moved in. We have a “his” and “hers” version on our wedding website.

From the start, we knew we wanted to share our daily lives with our family and friends. Getting married outside was a no brainer, and Johann sweetly said he would prefer a morning ceremony. Clearly he had no clue what went into making a wedding, but he stated that he wanted to be married all day long, that and he didn’t want to sweat too much. The inspiration was Brooklyn! Local! This was a casual Brooklyn day, Lali and Jojo style. The venue was our local bar, and because it has an eclectic vibe, I was able to mix in my own cake stands, candy dishes, tin cans, pictures of my great-grandparents and these fabulous pillows a friend gave us as a wedding present. My great-aunt gifted me fabric place mats and croceted dollies, which were used at the cake table. My cousins sent us handmade mini baskets from Mexico, which were made by the indigionus people of my family’s home state of Chihuahua. They held traditional Mexican wedding cookies that were made in Mexico by family there. The teddy bear who stays in our bed even was front and center for both the ceremony and reception. All these were little things that my family and friends could recgnize as us. my great aunts began to cry when they saw pictures of their parents (my great-grandparents) framed and displayed. I wanted them to know that regardless of how far we are, I will always know where we started.

My sister made my bouquet from bodega bought flowers and ribbons I had. I asked her to place my late Abuelita’s (paternal) road runner pins on her bouquet and mine. I did not want our budget to be eaten up by flowers, so we bought small glasses and shot glasses from IKEA, and I ordered white carnations. I know carnations are not a fancy flower, but they remind me of the large bouquets my dad would get me as a pre-teen to celebrate my birthday. They made me feel fancy. To make it more us, we bought white papel picado from La Sirena in the Lower East Side. My favorite moment was our vows. We are bilingual, but being able to both say our vows in Spanish really hit home for me. We didn’t tell each other we would be doing that. I also loved having my great-aunts and grandma sing to us during our first dance. The song was chosen by my grandfather, who was unable to attend due to health. Of course, seeing our families let loose and dance together was great! And having my sister stand up next to me — she is little but, boy, her support was mighty that day!

Brooklyn Wedding at The Green Building from Love Me Do Photography

I’m giving The Green Building a new nickname.  And that new nickname is “The Greatest Venue of All Time.” I happen to think that’s pretty fitting for a chic urban paradise in the center of one of the hippest places around, i.e. Brooklyn.  And when the GVAT (sounds good, no?) hosts a fab soiree like this one captured by Love Me Do Photography?  Guaranteed amazing.  It’s pretty, pretty blooms by Ariel Dearie Flowers meets gorgeous DIY decor meets a crazy cool (+ stunning) bride and groom – and it’s all making for one seriously beautiful Tuesday morning.  See it all here.

From Love Me Do Photography Sinae and Eli live in Brooklyn and wanted to keep their wedding local. The Green Building’s raw feeling was perfect for their multi-cultural wedding. Sinae’s family is Korean and Eli’s is Jewish, so featured traditions from both cultures with modern twists, including the Tish and Bedeken on the Jewish side and the Korean tea ceremony called Paebeck. The whole wedding took place at The Green Building except for the first look on the street near Grand Army Plaza in Prospect Park. The decor was handmade by the bride — elegant with a big emphasis on the huge Korean buffet.

NYC Engagement Film from Birdhouse Productions

Oh, how I love engagement films.  They fill me with a complete and utter happiness that is unparalleled – and this stunning video captured by Birdhouse Productions is ah.ma.zing.  And by ah.ma.zing, I mean that it will sweep you away into a love-filled bliss that is guaranteed to deliver some serious HAPPY.  It’s a boy meets girl in the most exciting city in the world type of romance, complete with a stop-you-in-your-tracks proposal in London that is all kinds of swoon-worthy fabulous. (Seriously.)  Grab the tissues, lovelies.  This one is sooo good.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/42154631 600 337]

From Birdhouse ProductionsAs filmmakers, what attracts us most to a couple is their story. The amazing thing about Bethany and Jonathan is that their humble, down-to-Earth personalities make it hard to believe that they have one of the most romantic, adventurous relationships and love stories you will ever hear about. These are two people with an abundant love of life who appreciate the simple joys (such as drinks at a local pub) but also love the finer things (like a weekend getaway in London and Paris). We had the best time walking in Bethany and Jonathan’s shoes for a day; playing with their dog, Charlie, at their home in Weehawken, taking the ferry into NYC (hands down the best way to get into the city); and laughing over drinks at Mulligans, their favorite pub. It’s truly a blessing to be able to capture stories as amazing and intense as theirs.

From the moment we first heard from them, we knew this was going to be an extra special film. With Bethany and Jonathan’s great patience and trust, we edited their film like a feature — we took it to the recording studio, plugged in, projected their film on a screen and started composing an original score to the visuals. A friend and collaborator of ours, Tom Downing, layered in some final animations, and the film was complete. We are so excited with the outcome and are even more thrilled that Bethany and Jonathan love what we’ve given them. Their wedding this July is going to be a gorgeous one — and we can’t wait to see their families’ reactions to this film at the reception!

From the Bride… One of the main reasons Jonathan and I wanted an engagement film was because all of his family lives in England, and mine is in the states.  So there are a lot of family members on either side that have not gotten the chance to get to know us. The engagement film was an amazing platform for introduction. It was a very personal, close-up view of who we are as a couple and really allowed our family members an inside look at how we came to be. We chose Birdhouse (best decision ever!) to create this engagement film because we LOVED their previous work.  The way they tell a story is magical. I was watching wedding films and engagements films of complete strangers, but I was totally engrossed and wanted to know more about the couples (which is something that I have never been able to say about any other wedding films I have seen). Birdhouse is fresh, new, exciting, and most importantly, they love what they do.  It was very obvious to my fiance and me that they seemed to be just as excited and passionate about our engagement film as we were, and that is a rare, but beautiful thing. We couldn’t be happier with the end result — it is all we could have asked for and more. This film is a time capsule of our lives that we will be able to cherish forever. We will get to share this with our children someday — how cool is that?!

Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa Wedding from Sarah Tew Photography

A dynamite location (to say the LEAST) at Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa, a timeless gown, beautifully displayed food on the most elegant of barn tables and some oh-so-amazing florals from Linda Baldwin Flowers are what make up this in.cred.ib.le wedding from Sarah Tew Photography. The very sight of a Claire Pettibone gown makes my heart go pitter pat and when you add invitations from the great Mr. Boddington’s Studio, well, that sends me right over the moon. Oh, and did I mention that they had their Boston Terrier walk down the aisle as the ring bearer? Commence swooning. Find the full gallery of this wedding, right here.

From Sarah Tew PhotographyKatie and Sharmilan got married at one of my favorite locations I’ve shot at in the last few years: Buttermilk Falls Inn in Milton, New York. Just over an hour from the city, this picturesque venue is nestled along the Hudson River and features duck/geese ponds, pretty little bridges, rolling hills and giant weeping willows. Oh, and a field of beautiful day lilies! They had their ceremony outdoors on a slope towards the pond, followed by a cocktail hour and tent reception down near a patio with a view towards the river. Everything was SO beautifully planned and had such lovely personal touches and elegant style — everything fit the couple’s personality and had that inviting warmth that the best wedding celebrations are so rich with. The ceremony featured such sweet readings and even a sing-along. Their cute-as-can be dog, Wilbur, was walked down the aisle as the ring bearer, to everyone’s delight. For tablescapes, the couple chose (and had Katie’s father send all the way from Britain) to use colorful old tea-tins for the gorgeous centerpieces and beautifully-arranged fruit on cutting boards atop burlap runners. Pretty pink-rimmed china plates displayed letterpress menu cards with mouthwatering descriptions of the caterer’s farm-to-table dishes. The band, which I’d had the pleasure of seeing before, has got to be one of the best bands you can book for a wedding around here — and they did not disappoint. After a heartwarming set of toasts (Sharmilan’s brother’s speech brought tears to my eyes!), the crowd was ready to get down! At the conclusion of the tented reception, guests were invited to follow a lantern-lit path to the Red Barn for an after-party.

NYC Wedding from Charlotte Jenks Lewis

I’m in New York about 6 times a year. Maybe more. But the thing is, I fly in and out so quickly for meetings and such, that I never get to pause and really soak up the city that the world loves so very much. So I rely almost exclusively on weddings like this next one to deliver that New York City gorgeousness that a girl craves and to remind myself that in all of its chaos, New York is magic. And when you put Charlotte Jenks Lewis behind the lens, along with a bride that could (and did) stop traffic…well, it’s magic taken to a new level. Click here for so much more.

From the Bride… I wanted a wedding that would capture the true essence of New York City — an elegant and sophisticated affair. The St. Regis overlooks Fifth Avenue and is steps away from where my husband and I met exactly three years earlier. It was the perfect locale for the quintessential New York City wedding I always envisioned. It was also important to both Tommy and me to showcase the beautiful city where we fell in love. The ballroom at the St. Regis boasts gilt chandeliers reflecting true splendor and was the inspiration for many of the wedding details. The luxurious decor provided inspiration for the custom-designed invitations that also featured our monogram — interlocking Gs, representative of our surnames. The blue paper (my something blue…) offset the invitation’s metallic gold details. And it was the invitation that inspired Ron Ben-Israel’s design of the wedding cake.

My absolute favorite part of wedding planning was dress shopping. The pearl and crystal embellishment of the Monique Lhuillier gown complemented the luxury of the venue, and my sparkly Jimmy Choos completed an overall glamorous wedding ensemble! My engagement ring inspired the floral arrangements. I chose shades of white, ivory and cream for my bouquet so the only pop of color was the bright yellow hue of the Graff canary diamond. I also love the idea of white for a wedding. In addition, because the ballroom is so luxurious, I wanted to balance the intricate decor with simple, yet elegant, floral arrangements. I also incorporated the monogram into the floral design by engraving the crystal vases. It was an intimate wedding (only 27 guests since we married on the 27th!), and I wanted to embrace the intimacy of the celebration, so there was an abundance of floating candles for warmth and glow. Every detail came together to create a day filled with indelible memories to last a lifetime.

NYC Engagement Session from Marta Locklear

New York City screams romance to me. I’ve never really been able to put my finger on exactly why, but these gorgeous engagement photos from Marta Locklear proves the Big Apple provides the perfect backdrop for all that unspoken romance to unfold. Of course it doesn’t hurt that this couple is as cute as they come, and when you put all of that together – you get one lovely full gallery!

From Marta LocklearKatie and Jeff’s wedding is going to be near their hometown in Virginia in September, but they wanted to capture a bit more of their current world for their engagement session, as they both live and work in New York City. So we made plans for me to travel up and spend a few hours capturing them in some staple locations around the city. It was so crowded, but with a lot of patience on their behalf, I believe the images turned out amazing. They appear as if they are the only two people in the city when they look at each other. We spent a little bit of time in Central Park and then cabbed it down to the Brooklyn Bridge and another small park in downtown. I so eager to capture them in the polar opposite environment as they tie the knot under an ancient Willow Tree at Sundara in Roanoke, Virgina this September.

From the Bride… I can say with confidence that Leighton and I are not only a very unlikely couple, but also a very unique couple. I am a director of sales for Project Trade Show and love all things fashion. I work in a “hustle and bustle” job with fashion designers, so I have to be assertive and out-spoken. Leighton is a MTA NYC bus driver. He’s a handsome, soft-spoken man with a Jamaican accent. He’s most comfortable in sneakers and always in his uniform. Basically when we meet, he couldn’t have cared less about fashion. I met Leighton on a blind date, arranged by my best friend and her boyfriend. I must admit, I was doubtful from the very beginning. I left the date thinking, “Leighton is just not my type.” I did not want to go on a second date with him and avoided his phone calls. Leighton, on the other hand, called my best friend’s boyfriend after our first date saying, “Thank you for setting us up — I just met my future wife!” Fast forward one year: I was at my best friend’s birthday bash, and so was Leighton. We finally talked that night. And we talked, and talked … the whole night! From that day forward, we have been inseparable. Imagine my surprise! Leighton became my friend, my charmer and my unexpected prince! We fell in love and slowly merged our polar opposite lives together. We complement each other perfectly. He slows me down when I’m busy and stressed, and I’ve introduced him to his new obsession: fashion.

The best part of the story is yet to come. Leighton set up a Mother’s Day party at my Brooklyn condo with all our friends and family. We were there for what I thought was a Mother’s Day celebration, but it was actually an elaborately-planned marriage proposal. Leighton coordinated the whole thing with our family and friends. I’m a hard girl to surprise, but he pulled it off! He’s a true gentleman, so before he proposed, he asked my father for my hand in marriage. He sat next to me halfway through the party and slowly turned towards me. I was completely oblivious and distracted with my family, but all of a sudden I noticed the mood of the room changed. It was focused on me. Leighton took my hand, looked at me and asked me to be his wife! I was in shock. I looked at my father, then back at a nervous Leighton and I said “yes,” of course!

Our wedding was tons of fun — a party with 250 friends, family and all things fashion! Our theme consisted of fresh orchids; bright jewels and tons of love. The Liberty Warehouse was the setting, which borders the New York harbor, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. As our guests were seated, the sound of passing boats echoed through the air, and the warm kiss of the afternoon sun set the tone for the rest of the ceremony. We were married at sunset and surrounded by stringed, cream-colored orchids, the smiling faces of our favorite loved ones, tears of joy and the smell of the ocean. After our emotional ceremony, during which my father gave me, his last daughter, away, we rushed off to capture our first images as husband and wife. Our guests were entertained by the sound of calypso music and the picturesque view of NYC buildings hugging the harbor. Each table was sprinkled with orchards, diamonds and shells — bringing a mix of elegance and a touch of harbor waters. After our grand entrance, we joined our guests with an amazing five-course meal and lots and lots of dancing. We were blessed with amazing toasts and speeches, which were told from the heart. Keeping with the fashion theme, our friends were dressed to impress. Leighton and I changed attire and made a second entrance to keep the party entertaining. I wore a soft pink dress with jewel-encrusted shoulders. Leighton, true to form, wore very fashionable, limited-edition sneakers! We will always remember our incredibly wonderful night.

From the Bride… Back in June, I moved from the East Village to San Francisco. Justin stayed in NYC, but he proposed a month later while we were on vacation in Istanbul with a gorgeous vintage Art Deco ring. He’s LDS, so living together before marriage wasn’t an option, and we decided to get married in New York in November. That gave us four months to plan a wedding from across the country!

We’re both swing dancers — it’s how we met — and really wanted to throw a dance. My dream venue was one of the gorgeous Beaux Arts mansions of old New York — I loved the idea of the simple elegance of dark wood, a few richly-colored flowers and candlelight. We used vintage silver from the 1930s and 1940s that I’d collected over the years to make the space more “us.” A jewelry box and breadbasket were repurposed to hold favors, and a tiny catch-all basket was perfect for the flower girl’s petals. It’s fun to see them around our home now as a reminder of our celebration. Since our planning period was so short, I relied very heavily on eBay and Etsy. I made my birdcage veil and designed my vintage-lace mantilla. The grey reception dress was made by a very talented friend who is currently a student at FIT — I can’t wait to wear it again!

The paper crafts were all DIY. Justin and I are both tech nerds, and we designed an icon set and infographic representing our relationship — places we’ve visited, milestone moments, etc. We had the icons made into rubber stamps and used them on our invitations, programs and place cards. Our guestbook was a Moleskine sketchbook that we decorated with our engagement photos, and the “photo booth” was an iPad running the PhotoBooth app. We also DIY’ed the pomander balls decorating the ceremony room, heart-shaped toss confetti, traditional Italian almond favors and bridesmaids’ bouquets.

If you’re running on a tight schedule, there are certain things you’re going to miss out on — you can’t really look at a lot of venues or do a bunch of tastings (I did none). So I stopped worrying about “perfect” and just started looking for vendors who would do an awesome job. Finding people who will work with you over email and having a good month-of coordinator is key. Some things will go wrong — for example, our florist canceled three weeks before. But the short deadline was a constant reminder that I’d be married to my best friend in four quick months!  And on the actual wedding day, everything was absolutely wonderful — our first dance was my favorite part. We just celebrated four months of marriage by finally going on a honeymoon — climbing Mount Kilimanjaro! I’m blissfully happy, so blessed and couldn’t be more in love.

NYC Wedding from Zac Wolf Photography

Sometimes, it’s those sweet, simple, thoughtfully crafted weddings that we love the most here on SMP and this one fits the bill entirely. Photographed flawlessly by Zac Wolf, this wedding is basically as lovely as lovely gets. With a bride, all glowy and gorgeous, a groom in love and pretty flowers all in a row. The handcrafted details, the peonies for days and the general sense of gorgeous are all just a fabulous bonus. Click here to see so much more.

From Zac Wolf Photography From the moment I first met Tim and Sarah at their engagement session, I knew their wedding would be one for the record books. When I showed up to the Desmond Tutu Center on their big day, rays of sunlight were shining through the trees surrounding the grounds, and I could tell it was going to be a perfect summer day in the city. This wedding was filled with beautiful and personal touches, such as letterpressed invitations; pennant flags; paper straws; refreshing, citrus-flavored water and wooden fans. Their wedding cake was shipped in from a local bakery in Rhode Island where Tim has gotten his birthday cake every year for as long as he can remember. However, the most impressive detail of this awesome wedding was the amazing banquet hall set-up of the reception hall. The long tables were a fantastic way to make all the guests feel like one giant family. Mid-reception, Sarah and Tim snuck away so she could change into to a traditional Qipao her mother had brought back from China. Then, we headed off to the Highline for some fantastic portraits in absolutely perfect New York evening light. Back at the reception, there was tons of dancing and fun from their friends and families to celebrate the beautiful day and the love of Tim and Sarah!

Bachelorette Party in The Hamptons from Amy Rizzuto Photography

Bachelorette parties are the best, don’t you think?  I mean, really, who doesn’t love spending an entire day/weekend bonding with the besties?  Hands down, one of the most amazing memories you’ll ever make.  And this darling bride-to-be?  Well, she most certainly knows how to throw a party.  With the help of Picture This Plan That, her dream of an intimate seaside fête in The Hamptons became an absolute (and totally adorable) reality.  It’s a cozy celebration chock-full of sweetness, all captured in pretty, pretty images by Amy Rizzuto Photography.  See them all here.

From the Bride… Mason jars filled with soft wheat grass, pretty porcelain plates decorated with blue trim, cream cloth napkins clasped together with tiny white seashells, overly-loved book pages and a lace tablecloth laid delicately on the sand — these are just a few of the details that made up my bachelorette party in the Hamptons!

As a bride, I knew I wanted every detail of my wedding process to be unique! Through spending the last few summers in the Hamptons, I completely fell in love with the relaxed and laid-back feeling I have when I am there. I can’t imagine anything more perfect than soaking up the sun on the beach, reading a great book and hanging out with my favorite girlfriends. This is the experience I wanted to give my bridesmaids! I invited them up to stay with me at Gurney’s Inn in Montauk, New York, for the weekend. As the sun set over the horizon, we shared cocktails, a “cake pop” cake, and plenty of laughs, all to set to the gentle sound of the crashing waves behind us. I used our favorite old love stories to decorate the delicate lace tablecloth, along with a garland of worn sea wood and mason jars filled with simple, cream-colored flowers. Tiny scrolls with each girl’s name in loopy script acted as adorable DIY place cards that perfectly fit the theme!  I can’t imagine a more perfect way to celebrate my bachelorette party, and I know I will treasure these memories with my girlfriends forever!

Antler Inspired Photo Shoot at The Foundry from MLKL Photography

What do you get when you mix an eye for fashion, an affinity for wedding photography + an imaginary bride with a passion for animal rights? You’re about to see the product of this love triangle-and boy, oh, boy-it is PRETTY! Photographed by MLKL Photography, this avante garde shoot held at The Foundry features a “who’s who” in designer labels and an ultra-cool antler cake by Elegantly Iced. Artistically pleasing and super creative, there is so much more to see right here, dears!

Click here for the FULL photo shoot!

From MLKL PhotographyThis styled shoot combines my passions for fashion and wedding photography. As a photographer, I don’t just shoot weddings, I work with my bride to dream up a wedding day completely unique to her style and passions, rendering photos that artfully represent what makes her day one of a kind. It’s all about personalization. And, in this shoot – it’s all about deer! Deer? Yes Dear, Deer!

In this shoot, the bride is a passionate advocate of animal rights, stemming from a great love for all things mammal — and, most of all, deer. As a refined, classic bride with an uncanny appreciation for high fashion and the avante garde, she boldly integrates artful gestures of her animal affection throughout her wedding day. With antler earring studs, a painted deer cake topper hand carved from white-chocolate by the very talented Elegantly Iced, and a stunning antler head piece in place of a veil (beautifully adorned with flowers by the Brooklyn boutique Graceful Gardens), she tastefully creates a day unique to her style and her passion. Everything was photographed in Long Island City’s stunning venue, The Foundry, this summer.

The beauty of a deer antler was the inspiration for much of this shoot. In addition to their incredible shape, the symbolism proves intriguing. While antlers are typically found mostly on male deer, it is known that some species of does have the capacity to produce antlers during periods of fertility. Being that antlers are naturally shed by the deer and have a long history of ornamental use, this animal advocate naturally selected antlers to be her main tribute to the deer throughout her wedding day inspiration.

Brooklyn Wedding from Lauren Gabrielle Photography

Falling hard for a dress long after you’ve walked down the aisle definitely comes with the territory of this job. But how could you not fall madly in love with every single scallop on this BHLDN dress? It’s a 60’s inspired gem donned for an intimate ceremony at The Boathouse followed by a champagne toast and feasting at Frankies 457. Now that is how you do a wedding in New York. And coupled with the photography of Lauren Gabrielle, it’s a sight to be hold. See that sight right here.

From the Bride… Eron and I went to the same college and had known of one another for years. Although we were living in separate cities, after many summer vacations with a mutual group of friends, he invited me to New York to celebrate New Year’s Eve and my 30th birthday. I traveled to New York, extended my trip … and the rest is “happily ever after” history.

We live in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and we knew we wanted our wedding ceremony and reception to be very “Brooklyn.” We wanted everything to be easy, both for us and our guests, but we also wanted it to be totally unique and absolutely special. During the planning process the venues came to us immediately — Eron is an architect and his favorite building in all of Brooklyn is the Boathouse in Prospect Park. The viewing platform across from the Boathouse was the perfect location for our ceremony, as it provided an intimate space for our guests and a gorgeous backdrop. The ceremony was exactly what we’d hoped. We were married by our best friend in our favorite place, surrounded by those we love.

We love dining at Frankies 457, and it was really our first and only option as the venue to host our reception. The food is amazing and we thought the rustic stable in the garden, long tables and family-style service fit perfectly with the kind of celebration we wanted. We had an idea of how the room would be styled — the white linens, burlap runners, the vintage jars and flowers — but our florist really created something wonderful, elegant and romantic. We walked into Frankies on the evening of our reception and were blown away — we absolutely loved how everything came together. A friend of a friend has a local bluegrass band that we’ve always enjoyed, and they played during the cocktail reception. The three musicians sounded just right in the corner of the garden. Along with a menu at each place setting detailing dinner, each couple received a Frankies 457 cookbook inscribed with a message from Eron and me — a little way for us to tell them how much it meant to us they were celebrating with us.

From Sara Wight Photography… Jaclyn and Kevin wanted a quintessentially New York wedding. During their wedding at Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan, their guests enjoyed stunning views of the city during the rooftop cocktail hour, as well as equally gorgeous views from the dining room, which was decorated with gorgeous chandeliers and the backdrop of the the city. This lavish event space was complemented by the chic black and white details, such as the escort cards, menus and the cake! Jaclyn and her bridesmaids got ready at the penthouse suite of the Tribeca Grand Hotel, and the couple’s first look was held in their private garden. They was then joined by their wedding party for portraits on the downtown New York City streets, where a local firehouse and the doorways of traditional Tribeca architecture set the scene for these amazing portraits.

From the Bride… It all started on the playground of Coleytown Elementary School in 1982. My first memories are of Nathan in third grade running in the school halls and my mom (a teacher) yelling at him to slow down! We were always around each other but never had talked long enough to really gotten to know each other … insert a pause of 20 something years… Our romance began at Compo Beach (the rocky side) in the summer of 2010 when a trip to the beach turned into eight hours of sharing. Almost immediately, we realized the connection we had and how much we had in common. Our friends were all shaking their heads seeing two friends that they had never pictured together but realizing how much sense it all made. Then 11 months later on Memorial Day 2011, Nathan proposed on the playground of Coleytown Middle School under the window that had once been my mom’s classroom.

I had always knew I wanted to have us do our photos before the ceremony, but that’s really more because of wanting to get them “out of the way” and feel less rushed during the party. I didn’t know it was going to feel as intimate and special to have just the two of us have a moment together instead of seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony. I loved having that time alone together before the wedding. It eased my nerves, and it also carved out a special time together that we would never had shared together if we hadn’t done first look photos. My surprise for Nathan was that I had taken his suit jacket and had a monogram of our initials and the date set in a heart sewn into the inside lapel. When we saw each other dressed, he was able to show me his excitement over the monogram surprise.

In having a wedding of with 62 guests, it was very important to me that all of our guests feel the intimacy of the moment. There were many traditional “obstacles:” we were raised in different religions, my parents are divorced and my mom is deceased, etc. We had selected a very small wedding party of two bridesmaids and two groomsmen. However, we were able to take these obstacles and embrace them wholeheartedly. The connection started with the fact that our shared best friend, Kate, was not only a bridesmaid, but her father was our officiant. We have both known Jim since we were 15 years old. Jim’s business, Ceremonies without Boundaries, is just that. Jim was able to combine my Jewish faith, Nathan’s Christian faith and our shared interest in Native American spirituality and customize a ceremony highlighting beautiful traditions from all. When faced with how I would walk down the aisle (a big consideration when you are a child of divorce, have a close step-parent and have lost your mom), I had my dad walk me down the aisle and had my step-father wait at the first row. When we reached him, I hooked my arm into his and when Jim asked, “Who gives this bride?” I had both my dads say, “We do.” We used a piece of my mother’s wedding veil to wrap our hands in the “blessing of the hands.”

We had a custom rubber stamp made for each couple invited to the wedding with their name and address. That stamp was then used for the Save the Date, the wedding invite, the place card for your table and the guest gift. It was a personal touch that wound up not only being unique but cost-effective! We had black and white photos from all the generations before us on their wedding days set up in Lucite frames around the place card table to honor our families and the tradition of marriage. Parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. It was very meaningful to have them displayed and was very cool to see the styles based on the generations. Instead of a traditional guest book, we had a box of rocks and asked our guests to write us inspiration, advice, etc. on the rocks. They are now displayed in a bowl on our coffee table and it’s fun to be able to go through them anytime. It is a sculptural way to enjoy your guestbook!

From Sara Wight PhotographyCurrently living in Massachusetts, Ellie and Jonathan chose the bride’s original hometown of Cold Spring, New York, as the location for their June wedding. Sweeping views of the Hudson River Valley provided a stunning backdrop for the bride and groom’s special day, including Boscobel House and Gardens for portraits and Our Lady of Restoration Chapel for the couple’s ceremony. An avid antique car collector, the bride’s father provided them with an antique Ford Edsel, which the couple drove to their reception, which was held at the elegantly appointed Highlands Country Club in nearby Garrison, New York. No detail was left unnoticed, including the groomsmen’s personalized tie clips, seating cards held in small pots of grass, and a tray of “wishing stones” that the couple’s guests could sign wishing the couple well. The mother of the bride, a local florist, designed the beautiful floral arrangements and centerpieces of fuchsia and lime green roses. They matched perfectly not only with the bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s ties, but also Ellie’s Kate Spade pumps and Jonathan’s socks. Cocktail hour was held on the lawn of the country club and featured wood-burning fire pits, and it was followed by dinner and dancing in the candlelit dining room.

Weddings are amazing.  That goes without saying.  And this drop-dead gorgeous, uber-stunning Grasmere Farm backdrop carefully scouted and planned by Charmed Places?  Well… it’s almost too amazing to believe.  A glamorous fête with lovely lavender hues and touches of rustic goodness every which way you turn, it’s the fabulous stylings of Matthew Robbins meets a glorious Vera Wang gown meets the beyond brilliant images of Meredith Davenport of Christian Oth Studio.  Or as we like to call it, a serious Monday morning treat.  Dive into all of the pretty right here. Oh and if you haven’t yet noticed our SMP at Home series on Sundays, you have to take a peek at all of the gorgeousness that happened right here over the weekend!

From Lydia FitzGerald of Charmed PlacesOne week after hosting an end-of-summer rehearsal dinner at Grasmere Farm, Maria and Matt held their wedding reception at Grasmere — the first wedding in this space outside the family of the property’s owners! Living in NYC and spending summers out at the Jersey Shore, I questioned Maria and Matt’s initial interest in a barn located  in the Hudson Valley, but they were convinced that this was the spot, that it represented certain elements of their relationship and they were enthusiastic to jump in and start planning!

The wedding ceremony was held at a regal, stone, Episcopal church located in the heart of Rhinebeck Village. Instead of printing ceremony programs to be distributed to guests, the couple decided to write the ceremony details on various chalkboards and prop them by the church’s entrance, surrounded by fresh herbs and plants and including the bride’s favorite, lavender. As guests made their way from the ceremony to the reception site, signage directed shuttles and cars to an unmarked entrance to the Grasmere property, down a long drive to a secluded area on the grounds where the stone barns stand. Vodka cocktails in mason jars and fresh shrimp from the groom’s family shop in NYC — Leonard’s Market — awaited guests as they arrived. Guests were ushered into the stone barn for dinner just before sunset in time to see the sunlight hitting the three massive chandeliers suspended above the dinner tables. Each place setting was pre-set with chilled, local Sun Gold tomato gazpacho and goat cheese crema, to be sipped or spooned from a demitasse cup.

As night time set in, guests were able to observe a better view of the stark contrasts inside the barn — the tall ‘chimneys’ were stripped to their black insulation with patterns of light projected, creating a very urban, industrial vibe. The chandeliers provided warmth and elegance, as did the dinner tables with their brightly colored florals in pewter pitchers surrounded by candlelight. Dinner gave way to dessert, where the bride and groom dug into a small ceremonial chocolate cake made from the groom’s mother’s recipe and topped with a special lego cake topper delivered to the couple from the groom’s 7-year-old nephew! When the band stopped playing at 11 p.m., the party moved from the barn to the carriage house, where the stone walls were washed in pink light and two fire pits were set at the entrance for guests to use to keep warm as the evening temperature dropped to 44 degrees! Hot pizzas, delivered by a local joint, and plenty of beer kept the party going until the last shuttle call of the evening was made. Maria and Matt were having such a great time, they were the  last ones to get on the bus!

NYIT de Seversky Mansion Wedding from CLY Creation + Quatre Coeur

If you stumbled across SMP this morning looking for a wedding that will give you goosebumps in seconds and butterflies in moments, you can stop searching. You’ve found what you’re looking for. It’s jaw-dropping florals from Quatre Coeur. It’s fabulous achitechture in the de Seversky Mansion. It’s images from CLY Creation that are so beautiful, they are pieces of art. It’s a couple so in love, you can’t help but love them. And it’s a gallery you’ll never forget.

From Loli Events … Cordelia and Chris chose the secluded de Seversky Mansion as their backdrop for their beautiful early spring wedding. After a romantic first look in the gardens, the couple and bridal party were whisked away to the nearby Aviator Museum for some fun shots with the uber talents CLY Creation.

This wedding was a perfect balance of great DIY items and then leaving the rest to the wedding professionals. The palette for the wedding was comprised of shades of purple and neutral tones. The bride spend hours putting together the delicate invitations and programs. The two-in-one escort cards and favors were also her doing. These were tiny jars filled with mini gummy bears (the bride’s favorite treat) and attached were hand made glittered table numbers and name cards. Needless to say, these were adorable!!

For the floral design, Cordelia chose an elegant color palette of mauve, deep plum and gray. QuatreCoeur created the centerpieces and bouquets using seasonal spring flowers such as sweet pea, tulips, Dutch hydrangeas and flowering branches.

The couple wanted to involve their friends and family as much as possible. Both during the ceremony and dinner, loved ones played and sang. It was also convenient that one of their close friends happens to be a great DJ and the other owns a photo booth company.

After lots of dancing, the bride presented her groom with a surprise grooms cake. This over-sized cake was in the shape of Hunter Mountain with many little details of skiers, trees and trails. It represented a favorite place for the couple.

From Cristina, The Bride + Owner of Cristina V.On May 26th, 2012, I married my soul mate and long-time best friend. Wes and I met at Boston College and dated for eight years before getting engaged. As soon as Wes and I were engaged, we knew that we didn’t want to celebrate our marriage at a typical wedding venue. Instead, we wanted a place that all of our guests would be able to stay at, drop their bags and enjoy a full weekend of events and activities. Having grown up in different areas (Wes in Chapel Hill and I on Long Island), it was important to me that our wedding venue served as a reflection of “us” and not of “you” or “me.” When we stumbled upon The Sagamore, we knew we had found our spot. Located on its own little island in the center of Lake George, The Sagamore had everything we had hoped for: a beautiful and formal setting, an abundance of activities and, most importantly, the space for all of our guests to stay and enjoy themselves. We booked Memorial Day weekend, and the planning had begun!

While the Adirondacks are five hours north of where we live, the planning was made easy by the wonderful wedding vendors we hired. I can honestly say that the time leading up to our wedding was never stressful and always enjoyable (mostly, thanks to how easy-going both of our parents happen to be — we are so fortunate!). Yet, while we were relaxed during the planning, we also knew what we wanted: a traditional and classic wedding done in an unexpected way. Being a jewelry designer, I wanted our wedding day to reflect my particular sense of style: simple and soft, yet also unique. This basic formula dictated all of our decision-making, and we had so much fun along the way! For invitations, we stayed simple with six-ply ecru card stock and navy blue engraving, but we made them stand out with beveled edges, gold accents and hand-written, gold calligraphy. For flowers, we decided on only whites and creams and pulled out soft hues of gold with crinkled silk table clothes and gold chiavari chairs. For the bridesmaids, I selected matching, long, yellow dresses but designed (and made!) a different pair of earrings for each girl, all in rutilated quartz (an absolute must-know-about stone!). For photography, we knew The Sagamore was beautiful, but since we were having so many other events there that same weekend, we wanted something “extra special.” So we arranged for a bridal party/family photo shoot at a local boathouse and also had the boat take Wes and me to our cocktail hour. And finally, my dress reflected this same kind of “effortless chic” style as it simply spoke for itself — no beading, no belts, just taffeta. I made sure not to choose any accessories that would take away from my dress (well, besides my Dorothy-like heels — oops!).

Saturday was the wedding, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather — I believe Tracey’s pictures tell that story! For Sunday, we wanted to do something different than the typical “farewell brunch” and give our guests a day to themselves (to golf, go hiking, canoeing, etc.). After all, most guests were staying until Monday. So, for Sunday night we kicked off with a casual picnic and tennis tournament. When I look through all of the pictures that Tracey so wonderfully captured, I can’t help but feel fortunate, and it has nothing to do with cabbage roses or chiavari chairs. Instead, to have had an entire weekend wedding, surrounded by family and friends, and to know that it was only the very beginning of a wonderful adventure ahead…
