From Brklyn View Photography… The Foundry is one of the prettiest and most unique wedding venues in New York City. It’s the perfect mix of old and new, soft and hard with an amazing outside reception space and that’s why it was the perfect location for Laura and Kim’s wedding day! Laura and her bridesmaids got ready at The Foundry while Kim was with his groomsmen at their apartment in Brooklyn. The bride wore a stunning wedding dress by Alvina Valenta and everyone was a little obsessed with her head piece by Twigs and Honey (including me!!). The Foundry’s beautiful backyard garden space was in full bloom and the ivy was the perfect shade of green for their wedding party photos.

As the ceremony began, Kim saw Laura for the first time as she walked down the aisle arm and arm with her Father. The couple each wrote their own wedding vows that had everyone wiping their eyes by the time they said “I do”. With the help of their friends, the couple created the copper frame for their ceremony space that Mahir Floral Events dressed up with a detailed floral arrangement. I love how the couples mixed metals, shades of blush, rose gold, and greens for their wedding decor.

Under the clear tent in the garden, guests were invited to dine under the stars. Speeches by the Maid of Honor, Best Men and Laura’s father gave further insight into how deep their love goes and how they are absolutely perfect for each other. I’m so honored to have been part of their incredible day and excited to share some of my favorite wedding photos!

Whimsical

From Brilliant Event PlanningRomina and Alexander wanted their wedding to feel happy and to be a celebration with their family and friends, many of whom had to travel from around the world to be with them. They merged Alexander’s Australian and Jewish heritage with Romina’s Chilean and Catholic roots, and the result is this bright, colorful wedding that is packed with personal touches!

The day started with Romina getting ready with her family and Alexander with his at his parent’s home. Our favorite detail from the morning is their invitation suite by Ellen Weldon. It was done completely in hand calligraphy and paired with a hand-drawn map of NYC containing little icons for all of the places important to the wedding weekend! As soon as everyone was dressed, they headed to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for photos. They lucked out – the weather that day was incredible!

After a teary first look and lots of pictures in the garden, it was time for the ceremony. A cello and piano duo played as Romina made her entrance. During the ceremony, the couple merged Jewish and Catholic traditions. There was a chuppah and, of course, breaking glass at the end of the ceremony, as well as a unity candle. The ceremony was completely bilingual and officiated by two of their closest friends. Romina really wanted the flowers to be bright and colorful, but still elegant. Denise Fasanello, the florist, couldn’t have gotten this more perfectly!

Romina designed and created a massive escort display to represent Chile, which is not only where she is from, but it’s also where she met Alexander. Each guest received a card that placed them at a table named after a different city in Chile. The display was accented with custom NYC taxi cabs, a nod to the city Romina and Alexander call home. Each cab had their names and wedding date, written in hand-calligraphy. Later in the evening, the couple surprised their guests with a sala performance! After a standing ovation, their DJ, Jason of Generation Events, took over the dance floor with a hybrid music performance – a DJ paired with drums and a sax. The trio kept the dance floor on fire until 1am! At the end of the night, guests gave Romina and Alexander a sparkler send-off, and the newlyweds drove off to the Brooklyn Bridge in a vintage NYC checker cab.

Take a Peek at the Most Intimate Engagement Session We’ve Ever Seen

Intimate. It’s the only word needed to describe this at-home engagement session, captured so beautifully by Sally Pinera. And we’re kind of in love with the stripped down approach – the simplicity, romance, and raw emotion are enough to make our hearts skip a beat. So join us as we peek into the sweet, sweet moments shared by this gorgeous, New Yorker couple.

From Sally PineraEngagement sessions are a beautiful way to capture the intimate love between a couple. I would deem them to be just as important as the wedding photos because its just you two, nothing else – no dress, no guest, no vow book – just you two that make it special.

Annabelle and Carlos wanted their session to be as intimate as possible while showcasing the city that they met, fell in love, and lived in. It’s always important to not force things at an engagement session. Allowing natural rhythms, natural movements, and natural stages to happen give way to magical moments! For Annabelle and Carlos, we had an intimate yet playful session indoors in the comfort of a bed. There were no frills, no crazy mountain backdrops, no gown or flowers. Just the two of them, in love, in the comfiest clothes. With that, we headed into the hustle of the city and walked around Central Park and the iconic Top of the Rock to finish their session as true New York lovers.

The Most Breathtaking Warehouse Wedding We’ve Ever Seen

With the Bride’s father unable to travel to the wedding because of health issues, the photography and videography took on an even greater importance.. and the finished results are just as stunning as the celebration itself. CLY By Matthew captured every ounce of beauty, from the grandeur of the venue to the tender moments between this beautiful Bride and Groom, and Fred Lee filmed the action live and it all came together oh so perfectly. This is a gallery not to be missed.

Urban Space

From the Bride… Our wedding was bittersweet. As we were finalizing the details and readying ourselves for marriage, we were hit with the crushing and heartbreaking news that my dad had suffered a stroke just two weeks before the big day. He wouldn’t be able to travel from Korea to NY. Plans to cancel or postpone the wedding rushed through my mind. In the end, with tears and heartache, we decided to go through with the wedding at my dad’s request. I would have given anything to have had him there, but he was able to experience every detail and relive the day through the work of our talented photographer, Matthew of CLY by Matthew, and our amazing videographer, Fred Lee, who truly captured the raw emotions of that day.

If you’re not familiar, Long Island City is an industrial area across the river from Manhattan, where our view is the beautiful and towering NYC skyline. This place is special to us. After nearly seven years together, it’s where my then boyfriend and I chose to move in together for the first time. It’s where he proposed the very night we moved in. It’s where we built our home full of so much love and constant laughter. That’s why, when it came to choosing a place to get married, Long Island City was a no brainer. It was, after all, where we joined our lives together.

Our venue, The Metropolitan Building, is quite simply, a breathtaking warehouse hidden within the industrial remnants of Long Island City. Though unassuming at first glance, you’re transported to a different era once you walk in. The space is enchantingly beautiful, and its details are hauntingly captivating. With its multiple floors, each full of individual character and charm, we knew that we could bring our vision to life here in this century-old gem.

It was important to our families that in addition to our Americanized ceremony that we performed a Korean ceremony as well. With the vibrant colors of our Korean outfits contrasting against the muted colors of the warehouse’s walls, it was a special moment where two cultures met and blended beautifully.

Greens and candles flooded our reception floor, creating a warm, natural and inviting atmosphere against the unadorned warehouse aesthetic. Garlands of leaves lined the long tables while thick bundles of tall eucalyptus branches were scattered throughout the open space. As a focal point, fairy lights were suspended over our sweetheart table giving us the feeling of sitting under a canopy of stars.

It takes a village, they say. We couldn’t agree more. All of our vendors were so wonderful to work with. Special shout out to our planners, Emily and Jasmine of Events by O9, who guided us every step of the way to make sure every detail was taken care of and nothing was overlooked.

I thank my lucky stars that my dad is better now. Looking back on our big day, however, even though his absence inevitably coated a layer of sadness throughout the celebration, our vendors worked so hard to ensure that everything was perfectly executed and that all we needed to do was to enjoy the moment. Our family, friends and everyone who brought that day to life managed to make our wedding magical, and for that, we’re forever grateful.

We’d Get Up at 4am For An Engagement Shoot as Gorgeous as This

Four o’clock in the morning is always a tough pill to swallow… unless you’re having your engagement pics taken by Sophie Epton at sunrise with the skyline of NYC behind you. Sophie snapped these two as they strolled across the Brooklyn Bridge, and with the city to themselves, they ventured to Washington Park to continue the fun. With sights to see and sweet moments galore, we have quite the gallery, definitely worth spending some quality time in. Join us there, right this way

From Sophie Epton Photography… Ray and Wes are some of the nicest clients we’ve ever had, and when they asked us to photograph their engagement session in NYC (the city where they started their life together) we couldn’t wait to pack our bags and jet off to the Big Apple to document this special occasion!

While getting up at 4am is never fun, it’s always worth it for the shoot, especially in a big city! We were all up bright and early on a brisk June morning right as the sun was peeking up over the Brooklyn Bridge… and it felt like we had the entire city to ourselves. We shot at all of Ray and Wes’ favorite areas… DUMBO, the Brooklyn Bridge, Washington Park, and even managed to get in a few photos of the two of them in the street while taxis sped by in the hectic energy of the urban jungle. Ending our shoot at the beautiful High Line by the Chelsea Market, Ray had us all cracking up talking about how “he could finally eat a bagel now that the shoot was over.” Ray and Wes, we adore you and our time together in the city… can’t wait for the big day!

This Modern NYC Affair Was Planned in Only 6 Weeks

In the scheme of wedding planning, six weeks is but a blink of the eye. And while most couples are just beginning to settle on a date, these two planned one very chic wedding. New York City set the stage for this intimate gathering of family and friends designed by Bespoke Only, with florals and all the greenery by Peartree Flowers and images captured by James A. for Judy Pak Studio. Imagine the most stunning, chic, beautifully modern cocktail party you’ve ever been to and you get this perfect celebration.

Planning a wedding takes a very long time, and Jodi and David love each other so much that they did not want to wait. After considering eloping, but realizing it was not for them, as they both wanted their families to be present, they did the next best thing- had a small wedding for immediate family 6 weeks after they got engaged and surprised everyone else by telling them in the save the date that they were married and now wanted to party with everyone. It was funny because people didn’t know if they were married already or first going to getting married. It was as if they did not know how to read the card. That said, they wanted an amazing party to friends, family, food, photos, dancing and more. To this end, they planned with Bespoke Only, a huge cocktail party on what turned out to be the most gorgeous NYC Sunday night in June. They enlisted to help of many vendors including Judy Pak, who captured the most incredible images. Their emotion, love and excitement was captured in every photo. They did a terrific job- so much so, that the photographers themselves felt like friends. Jodi and David wanted them to have as much fun as everyone at the party- and this shows in every image. What was so special was that Jodi and David were able to relive their wedding with all their friends and family through decorative elements such as calligraphed vows in a mirror, displaying items used in the ceremony, and wearing the same jewelry as a nod to those they love present and past for all to see. While yes Jodi and David’s wedding and celebration was somewhat unorthodox, it was perfect for them and their wanting to start their life as a unit immediately. And perhaps the biggest perk to come from it, like their website says, it allowed David to move into Jodi’a apartment sooner.

This Wedding Needs No Fixin’ Up… It’s Downright Joanna Gaines Perfection

I’ll be honest; I’ve never seen an episode of Fixer Upper. But after soaking up this wedding – and I mean majorly staring, obsessing, and crushing hard on every single detail – all inspired by none other than Joanna Gaines… well, I know what’s on my tv lineup this weekend. From the beautiful Jenny Yoo bridesmaids’ dresses to the rustic elegant reception decor, Cassi Claire captured it all – and even some sweet moments with this four-legged friend. See them all in our gallery right this way!

From Cassi ClaireI am so excited to share Lizz and Steve’s wedding day with ya’ll! Lizz captured my heart from her very first email when she described her wedding vision as “Joanna Gaines in wedding form.” Considering Joanna Gaines is everything I would like to be in life, I knew I HAD to work with this amazing couple! This wedding has all of my favorite things: relaxed elegance, an abundance of greenery, Jenny Yoo floral bridesmaids dresses, and the perfect sunset with a HORSE! On top of all that, we had the most perfect weather, a huge and hilarious wedding party, and the wine was flowing freely… it doesn’t get better than this!

Family Heirlooms Make for a Timeless Wedding

Elizabeth and Daniel have several incredible marriages to look up to as inspiration for their own – both their parents and Elizabeth’s grandparents have been happily married for 30, 40, and 70 years respectively! Fittingly, they chose to incorporate little items from each of these couples throughout their wedding day, from a handkerchief to the cake topper. The result was a timeless celebration of love and family, planned to perfection by Cynthia Ross Events and captured by A Day of Bliss Photography.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/196810633 600 338]

From the Bride… Dan and I were married on September 24, 2016, the same month my parents had their 30th wedding anniversary and the same year my grandparents reached 70 years of marriage. Plus, Dan’s parents have been married for over 40 years – we are so lucky to have so many great examples of loving marriages to look to!

We choose to get married in New York because we began dating and ultimately fell in love here in this beautiful city. Plus, I’ll let you in on a little secret – I had been dreaming of getting married at St. Patrick’s Cathedral since I was a little girl, so it truly made our wedding a dream come true.

Because we have so many marriages to model ours off of, we wanted to include as many things from those as we could. The cake topper was used at my parents’ wedding, the handkerchief I carried was my grandmother’s, and Dan carried his grandfather’s ruby ring with him the entire day. These small things helped us incorporate our families into our wedding day.

Dan and I like to read every night before bed, so we couldn’t help but sneak away to get a few pictures in the Yale Club library! Afterwards we continued celebrating and dancing, so it was no bedtime ritual that night.

High Fashion Inspiration for the Modern Bride

If you’re idea of modern includes stark, neutral design, then let this colorful inspiration prove you wrong. Incorporating high fashion beauty with modern color blocking and the most vibrant of hues, this shoot planned by Chloe and Mint, with florals by Of the Flowers and images captured by Sally Pinera, will have you crushing on gorgeous gowns.

Unusual. Unique. Out of the box. Modern. – These were the words surrounding this amazing color block theory shoot. For the modern bride wanting to express a unique wedding that is highly fashionable, this is for you! Color blocking has been around for ages but we don’t see them well executed at weddings. Going from a singular color to multiple tones, color blocking allows the bride to focus on very intricate and particular details to execute tastefully. We had the pleasure of working with Gabrielle who was our fashion stylist -With gorgeous Marchesa and Claire Pettibone gowns and simple yet alluring makeup. We had soft pink with poppy red, orange sorbet with lavender, and baby blue with sunny yellow. All of these color blocks are versatile and would be perfect for any season! For the final tablescape encompassing all three color blocks, we had an all white tabletop, floral arrangement, ghost chairs against silky assorted fabrics hanging representing each color block. We hope to inspire the next modern bride to do something as unique as these inspirations!

Individual Bridesmaid Bouquets + Inspiring Details For This Elegant Barn Wedding

We’ve seen our fair share of fresh ideas around these parts so it’s safe to say that when something brand new makes it’s way across our desks, we get pretty excited. Case in point: this wedding’s approach to bridesmaids. Instead of following tradition, our bride let her girlfriends wear whatever they desired and gifted them each with a beautiful bouquet for one gorgeous group photo in the gardens. It’s unique, ultra chic and oh so sweet and we’re 100% on board. See this pic – and all the rest by Rebecca Yaleright this way!

Barn

From Rebecca YaleEmma and Izzet were married on a beautiful summer afternoon in an intimate gathering of friends and family at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York. The couple threw a large fete for friends and family in Turkey, where they both have family, but decided to have a small luncheon gathering to celebrate in their new home, New York.

The bride got ready with the help of a friend and her aunt as they nibbled on delicious pastries and fresh fruit, all from the farm. The bride opted for loose and natural curls, perfect for the farm setting, pinned back with fresh flowers that complimented her beautiful white and green bouquet. After sharing a first look in the garden, the bride and groom were joined by their family for portraits and the ketubah signing before their ceremony. They said their “I do’s” under a beautiful lush chuppah of greenery followed by a private moment to themselves walking the gardens for a few portraits before joining their guests for cocktail hour. Instead of having traditional bridesmaids, the bride opted to honor her friends by letting them wear whatever they wanted and gifting them each a bouquet for a group photo of them all together in the gardens.

Guests enjoyed a three course gourmet meal from the farm followed by cake decorated with white and green flowers. The bride and groom paid homage to their British roots by gifting their guests truffles and Wedding Breakfast Tea from Fortnum & Mason as a wedding favor.

Vineyard Wedding Inspired by the Couple’s Honeymoon Destination

Inspired by an upcoming Italian honeymoon, this couple drew from the beauty of their favorite place while planning their wedding. The result is a delicious mix of fall colored blooms by Stacy K Floral, and tablescapes dotted with the flavors of Italy. From olive branches at each place setting to signage of all their favorite spots, see how New York perfectly melds with Italy through the gorgeous images by Michael & Carina.

A Glam NYC Wedding for the Modern Bride

A black tie wedding with the Statue of Liberty in the background? It’s hard to think of anything better! And that’s exactly what we have for you today, pretties. Love Me Do Photography and Shutter and Sound Films captured Sharleen and Andy’s modern, glam wedding complete with geometric accents and moody florals arranged by Designs by Ahn, planned by the ever-talented Erganic Design.

From Carina of Love Me Do PhotographyPhotographing Sharleen and Andy’s wedding was a dream come true for any photographer. Weather-wise, it was a perfect September day, and Sharleen and Andy looked phenomenal. Sharleen thought of everything when it came to her Bridesmaids and guests, making sure everyone had what they needed to be comfortable and have fun throughout the day. I loved that they opted to walk from the hotel to the venue for photos, because we got some of the best photos on our five minute walk down the street. Everyone was in such good spirits and was truly excited for the couple. Lots of tears were shed and smiles were all around. Being there and photographing their evening, you really got a sense of how great Sharleen and Andy are, and how much their friends and family genuinely love them. Because I know how much Sharleen and Andy value photography, I feel so honored to have been picked to photograph their wedding.

From the Bride… Andy and I often joke that we’re like the same person. Our relationship is effortless, and we’re so eerily on the same wavelength that to be with each other is almost to be with ourselves. We both know how hard that is to find, so the very likely prospect of never having met is scary to imagine. We didn’t swipe right, work together, or have a single mutual friend — I happened to sit in an empty seat next to him at a fundraiser, and he struck up a conversation. Had any single circumstance been different, we’d never have met. So, despite the fact that we’re both skeptics with very different backgrounds — he’s a born-and-bred New Yorker, I’m from Ottawa, Canada — our story has turned us into reluctant believers of sorts.

A major style inspiration for our big day was the fact that I’ve always known I wanted a black tie wedding. I wanted guests to have an excuse to dust off their tuxes and gowns and really bring it! With the help of my planner, Sojourner of Erganic Design (who was a total godsend and came recommended by Be Inspired PR), this led to a “modern glam” aesthetic with a geometric triangle theme and a color palette of black, ivory, and mixed metallics of gold, copper, and rose gold. I’ve always been drawn to darker, moodier elements, so we incorporated that into style accents — black stationery with gold foil, some dark flowers, and black candles.

This preference also led to the selection of our photographer, Carina of Love Me Do Photography. So many portfolios looked the same to me, with the same whitewash, color palettes, filters, and poses. At first sight, Love Me Do Photography’s work jumped out at me. It was just as beautiful and dramatic as any, but with raw emotion, grit, and split-second moments I felt were missing in others’. Going with them was one of the easiest (and best!) decisions we made.

When venue-hunting, our two requirements were a great “New York” feel and a space that had character. We saw many venues that had one without the other. At the suggestion of a friend, we checked out Battery Gardens and instantly fell in love with their location, their floor-to-ceiling windows, and the epic view. Since our ceremony would be onsite, we loved how there were distinct, separate areas for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception (this was harder to find than we expected). Exchanging vows while the sun sets, with the Statue of Liberty in the background? Yes, please.

Despite some ominous weather forecasts, we got super lucky with the weather, and it was a dreamy September day – warm and sunny with a few clouds and a great breeze for photos. The whole affair went off nearly without a hitch, save for the linen rentals not showing up, my bustle loops breaking, and a guest arriving with an unexpected plus-one! If anything, these hiccups just made for good stories.

People warn you that the day whips by in a blur, and they aren’t kidding, but time did almost seem to stop at certain moments: watching Andy’s eyes twinkle as he read me his vows, listening to my sisters sing a song we used to sing as kids during their speech, hearing my dad laugh as we danced. Andy and I are both pragmatic to a fault in many ways, so justifying a big wedding wasn’t always easy, but it was truly a special, spectacular day, and we couldn’t be happier with it.

When Talented Vendors Have Creative Freedom to Plan a Real Wedding

Although the Bride works in the wedding industry at Twobirds Bridesmaid, her vision for her own nuptials was simple and elegant – she wanted it to feel like a dinner party for family and friends. She carefully selected each of her trusted vendors then gave them creative liberty – and lovelies, it sure did pay off. Sag Harbor Florist created gorgeous grapewood spheres and florals inspired a sculptural installation at the venue, Longhouse Reserve, and Lisa Vorce Co. turned the Sperry Tent into a stunning reception space. There’s no better way to kick off your weekend than with this wedding, captured by Artisan Production and Braedon Weddings.

For almost twenty years I have been spending my summers in East Hampton. Recently my parents became full time residents, so now it is the place I call home. When thinking about getting married, there was really no other destination I could think of to celebrate the most special day of our lives.

Our wedding was at Longhouse Reserve, a 16 acre sculpture garden in East Hampton, NY. The first time I visited Longhouse, I remember telling my dad this is where I wanted to get married. It is breath-taking – the grounds are covered with flowers and greenery as well as installations from a variety of artists.

I work in the bridal industry (Director of Operations at Twobirds Bridesmaid in Manhattan) but never really thought too much about my own wedding. I really just wanted it to feel like a big dinner party with my family and friends. We worked with Lisa Vorce (and her amazing team) who is a dream. She thinks of everything and made the planning process easy (i.e. I really didn’t do anything).

All of our vendors were so spectacular: Braedon, our photographer, and Aaron, our videographer, were the best to be around all day and fit in like they were wedding guests! We used a lot of the vendors that my sister used last spring, so it really felt like family. The band, Northstar from Elan Artists, was out of this world. Everyone at the wedding cannot stop talking about them! Flowers were done by the amazing Anasatasia at Sag Harbor Florist who outdid herself. Lisa collaborated with her on these gorgeous grapewood spheres inspired by Grace Knowlton’s “structural orb” installation that was on the property. I never would have thought of creating something so beautiful and allowing them to creatively express themselves without my input made it the most seamless process.

The local vendors were so special to have. Our home away from home in the Hamptons is Nick & Toni’s (the chicken is all my husband talks about) so to have them cater the wedding was a no brainer. We did it French style so the tables shared all the sides and you had the option to sample all the entrees. Nick & Toni’s pastry chef made us two cakes – one gluten free (for me) and one for Evan. I love weddings this way as it creates a more casual and relaxing vibe.

Thanks to my sister (Jamie Mizrahi who is a stylist in LA), I was outfitted in custom Brock Collection (my dream dress) for my rehearsal dinner! I am just waiting for another place to wear that dress. For the wedding day I wore Ines Di Santo – a simple dress with an open back. My flower girls (Twobirds CEO’s daughters and my best friends) were outfitted in our tulle flower girl dresses. It was so special to have them apart of our day and be able to see our creations come to life!

Thank you to everyone who helped make our special day the best day of our lives.

This Wedding Is the Definition of Industrial Chic

I think you can get to know a lot about the kind of love a Bride and Groom just by their smiles. And these two? Well, their smiles say it all. Working with a handful of our fabulous Little Black Book Members including Polka Dot Events, 501 Union, Cobblestone Catering, Face Time Beauty Concierge and Isabelle Selby, they pulled off an industrial chic wedding for the books. Join us for allll the moody romance, over in the full gallery!

From Tracey at Polka Dot Events… Though both New York City born and bred, it took a move to Washington D. C. For law school at Georgetown University for Manhattanite Caroline and Staten Island native Max to meet and begin their relationship. The two were engaged by graduation and soon moved back to NYC where they settled in Brooklyn with their adorable doodle puppy named Edna. Caroline, an advocate and attorney, and Max, also an attorney, decided to hold their wedding at 501 Union, a former supper club with a swanky New York vibe, and teamed up with Tracey Goldstein of Polka Dot Events and Sachi Rose Design to transform the space, and plan an event that was uniquely “them.”

From their Staten Island Ferry Save The Dates (with Edna as the Captain) to their Earth-Day influenced favors (complete with Baggu reusable bags, ACLU bookmarks, the US Constitution, and seed packets) each detail of the wedding embodied Caroline and Max’s unique touch and personalities. Groupings of wildflowers lined the aisle leading up to a wild and asymmetrical cherry blossom chuppah with colorful orange, green and burgundy floral accents. Caroline, her mother and brother walked down the aisle to Sweet Caroline as the room smiled and giggled at the song choice. The ceremony was officiated by Cantor Nancy Bach, and Caroline and Max recited their own vows. Inside the reception, a large greenery installation was created to look as it was creeping out from 501’s skylights, and large wood tables were decorated with lush and colorful urn centerpieces and still-life accents of greenery and fruit. At each place setting sat natural linen napkins, sprigs of rosemary and a combined menu-placecard complete with an illustration of Edna in her dinner gear. The night was full of delicious new American style food from Cobblestone Catering and ended with a delicious dessert table of sweet bites and a small cutting cake from Luckybird Bakery.

This Couple Met Above the Clouds, Literally!

I feel absolutely blessed to experience others’ love stories for a living. Love and (pretty details) for a living ain’t bad my friends. If you’re an avid SMP reader, you get to experience that love on the daily, too. Today’s story is ridiculously romantic. This adorable duo literally met above the clouds, on a jet of course! Once you’re done admiring Charlotte Jenks Lewis‘ imagery, read the Bride’s writeup to find out just exactly what these two chatted about on that first-meeting flight and how it inspired their wedding day.

From the Bride… Jacob and I met in truly the most serendipitous of ways: on an airplane from Florida to New York! It was January 8, 2011; I was on the way home from a Disney trip with friends and Jacob was coming home from a business trip. While I maintain Jacob was totally unhelpful as I struggled to put my bag in the overhead bin, he has a very different memory of the entire encounter! Either way, once he pulled out an obscure book written by a historian I love, we started talking. Two hours flew by, and the rest was history!

As two history nerds, when Jacob and I got engaged we knew we wanted to create an elegant museum wedding with a classic New York City feel that also incorporated organic elements through the use of outdoor space. With that in mind, our design inspiration quickly became Elegant, Organic, and Modern. After looking at a few historic New York venues, we saw the Museum of the City of New York. A classic Georgian mansion with a striking marble staircase that served as my aisle and a beautiful brick-inlaid terrace overlooking Fifth Avenue and scenic Central Park, we knew we had found the perfect venue. Aiming to play up the museum’s dramatic design elements rather than trying to overpower them, our color palette featured marble, ivory, pale grey, and blush rose for the ceremony, while the rest of the evening featured mauve, plum, green, and gold.

Coming down the marble staircase and seeing Jacob grinning up at me and the smiling faces of 185 of our closest friends and family is a moment I’ll never forget. With the museum’s light installation glittering above me as I rounded the spiral staircase, I remember thinking that this moment was uniquely wonderful and just right. And from there, the night only got more incredible; we kept one of the museum’s exhibits open for our guests to explore, the food was delicious, and our amazing band kept everyone on the dance floor all night long. At the end of the night, we gave our guests airplane-shaped bottle openers as favors, with tags on them reading, “From Delta 1296 to 5.20.2017…” as an homage to our unlikely meeting story.

Our wedding was the absolute most fun, exciting, and special day of our lives, and we feel so lucky to have been able to celebrate our love with the people most important to us. So, my one piece of advice for brides on their big day? Do your best to stay truly mindful and in-the-moment for each part of the day. Remember that everything will inevitably fall into place, and as for the things that don’t, no one will be the wiser, so dance the night away with people you love and have the BEST time!

Magical Elegance is a Pool Filled with Coral Peonies

“Magical elegance” was the Bride and Groom’s inspiration for this wedding and they most certainly hit the nail on the head. Combining the classic beauty of the Bedford Post Inn with moments of brilliance like a pool dotted with coral peonies and bright blooms by Sandra Taurina, this celebration planned by Eventavli toes the line between cozy, relaxed and wildly gorgeous. Get lost in all the pretty imagery captured by Simply Sarah with even more right here.

From the bride…Rutherford and I first met in 1997, when he was attending college with my sister Natalie. At the time I was still in high school and had a massive, secret crush on Rutherford; although I’m sure it was somewhat obvious! I always looked forward to seeing him and whenever my sister was having get togethers I would secretly hope for Rutherford to be there. Nothing ever came of my innocent crush as life took us in different directions, but God had a plan for our future and we reconnected thirteen years later. From that moment forward it was as if everything we had been thru in life brought us back to one another!

Our engagement couldn’t have been any more special! Rutherford and I always travel together around our anniversary which coincides with Rutherford’s birthday week and last year we decided to go to Eleuthera, Bahamas. My sisters and I had traveled to the island earlier that year and just fell in love! Rutherford decided that my favorite beach on the island would be the perfect place for the proposal. I was so excited to be back at Lighthouse Point and was rushing to get to the top of the cliffs to see the view that I had missed so much since my previous visit. I told Rutherford to watch out for snakes on the way up to the cliff’s edge; little did I know we were about to get engaged! I was busy taking pictures of what remains to be one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen on earth and Rutherford suggested that we take some “selfies” together. I thought it was a bit strange as the day before when I was trying to do so he wasn’t too on board with the idea. Rutherford embraced me from behind and when I blurted out “hey I’m trying to take pictures” (in my head thinking leave me alone haha) he suggested that I just enjoy the view and moment. Rutherford then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him; I was shaking as I couldn’t believe what was happening. I then began to ask “why am I shaking” as in my heart I felt nothing but comfort and excitement. It was a beautiful moment that I will never forget!

Our wedding day was truly a celebration of our love! In planning our wedding my vision was one of magical elegance. The design inspiration was drawn from the elements of nature which complement the organic setting of Bedford Post Inn. I fell in love with the simple charm of the inn and beautiful property which lends itself to feeling more like a private home. Our stunningly designed invitation suite set the tone for the details to follow. A number of personal touches were incorporated into the wedding including my bouquet which was tied with lace from my grandmother’s island of Samos, Greece, the serving of a ceremonial cocktail native to my husband’s family’s country of Haiti and favors of wildflower and thyme honey imported from Greece. From our ceremony in the yoga loft overlooking the gardens, to the reflecting pool decorated with vibrant flower petals, our wedding song sung by Jermaine Paul, the incredible floral arrangements, to dancing under the stars our wedding day was everything we hoped it to be and more! Our favorite memory from our wedding day was the moment we both saw one another for the first time at the ceremony and embraced hands. Any nerves that we may have been feeling quickly subsided and were replaced with excitement!

To all newly engaged brides I would most definitely recommend Simply Sarah Photography! From my very first conversation with Sarah I knew that she was the photographer I had been searching for to capture our special day. Speaking with her felt more like catching up with a friend; she was extremely easy-going, patient and understanding. Her positive, comforting energy was felt even more so in person as she created a fun, safe space allowing for an enjoyable experience! Sarah’s work is incredible; the ethereal feeling evoked through her photographs is second to none! I really believe it is more than a coincidence that I came across Sarah’s beautiful work through her posts of Eleuthera; the same island where my husband and I were engaged! We are so blessed to have had Sarah behind the lens and will cherish the moments she captured for a lifetime.
