Late Summer Wedding at Montauk from Skilled Concept

Before I even get into how much I love every moment of this stylish wedding at Sole East Resort by Skilled Concept – can I just say that this Bride’s Jenny Packham is totally my dream dress. I could write paragraphs on how pretty it is, and she wore it perfectly. The entire day was equally as perfect, actually. From the gorgeous florals by Karen Lenahan Designs to the sweet kisses stolen by the handsome Groom, and every thing in between – it goes without saying this gallery is a must see this Monday. See it all here.

From the Bride… Gui and I met in New York City in 2006. In 2007 we went on their first holiday to the Hamptons. We arrived in Montauk and instantly fell in love with Sole East. Two and a half acres of incredible back yard, revamped 1970’s architecture and simple white in every room. You instantly feel relaxed and at home. When we got engaged, we instantly knew that is were we wanted to marry. Gui is from Brazil, I am from Colorado and we were living in London through the engagement. New York is where we fell in love. There was no second choice for the wedding.

A laid-back, family affair. A bit rustic, a touch of elegance, plus a first (and last) attempt at DIY! The space is beautiful all on it’s own. We didn’t want to ruin that. Small touches with a pastel palette. Hand-picked and close to the heart.

With only 58 rooms and the weekend after Labor Day, we took over the hotel for a long-weekend of relaxation and fun. We got married under a beautiful tree dressed with embroidery hoops filled with lace. Our best friend married us and we accidentally kissed as soon as I arrived at the alter.

All of our vendors had the same demeanor as us. No stress and absolutely incredible at their jobs. When you hire people to trust, there isn’t anything to worry about. Letting them guide helped me stay sane on a separate continent, planning all by myself.

My dress is my favorite thing in the world. The combination of simplicity and intricacy is second to nothing. And trust me, I looked EVERYWHERE. Jenny Packham is a British designer and that felt very special to me. Living in London while planning my wedding gives me such a connection to that city. My shoes are Charlotte Olympia, British as well. My Bridesmaids all wore the same skirt and a monogram necklace gifted to them the night before. They picked their own top and kick-ass shoes! Gui’s suit was custom-made in London and the boys wore matching suits, pink and white gingham ties and boat shoes of their choice. the ring bearers and ushers wore plaid shorts and pastel pink bow-ties.

Gui is a creative director so his vision and our crest is where everything else flowed from. Invitations, website, menus… all collateral was created by him. I took inspiration from some of our favorite restaurants and my new found obsession with Style Me Pretty for the rest. I sourced 8 vintage fabrics to make the napkins and collected beautiful copies of The Great Gatsby for each table. Along with the flowers, I found pinwheels + the wine holder table numbers on BHLDN. We were gifted the Olivetti typewriter from a friend at work who bought it when she was a teenager to “write love poems on”. This became our guest book.

For the place cards, we collected the corks and documented each bottle of wine or champagne we had from our engagement year. Those, along with gifts from some of our favorite restaurants. I took two corks, tied them with ribbon and secured them together with twine. We printed out the list of memories (almost all with guests at our wedding) to sit at the table as people picked up their cards.

Our traditional cake, created by Momofuku Milk Bar (and driven with care from Brooklyn to Montauk in our backseat) was one of the best decisions we made. I think it is stunning to look at and the flavors were just incredible. That was for Gui. I am more savory. I had seen in London instances where people used wheels of cheese as a cake. To me that is heaven. I called our favorite cheese shop in Brooklyn and they graciously accommodated our request for a 4 layer cake of delicious cheese.

The food was all sourced from The Backyard restaurant at Sole East. All fresh and locally produced. Passed hors d’oeuvres, family-style dinner and late-night food. We heard, and continue to hear over and over- BEST WEDDING FOOD EVER. We agree. We served special micro-brewed Colorado beer and Gui’s favorite brand from Brazil. We also had a s’mores bar at the fire pit later that night. My mom’s family are Hershey’s so this gave a special place to highlight her heritage.

Because you can never have enough photographs, we enlisted a photobooth to capture even more.

The best part? When the tent closed, the DJ moved inside to the bar on the property and we danced until my 6″ heels couldn’t take any more.

New York City Winter Wedding by Isabelle Selby

Here’s what I know.  This affair captured perfectly by Isabelle Selby is the epitome of drop-dead gorgeous (it sooo is) and there’s no place quite like the always-fabulous NYC for some sophisticated meets elegant Winter wedding magic.  Because New York City?  Well, it’s the kind of city that just screams “Winter chic” and for these two dapper grooms, there was just no better (or more romantic) locale to say “I do” than amongst it’s magical, candle-lit spaces.  Catch all the art deco-inspired glamour in the full gallery.

From Tom… Both myself and my husband Pete love to travel so when I proposed to Pete in 2011 on a trip to the Caribbean there was no doubt in my mind that we would have a destination wedding. We had always wanted a winter wedding; that magical combination of snow, glistening candles during those long nights, that crispness in the air, and that magic that just seems to bring people together. With that in mind it did not take us long to decide that New York City was the perfect place. Not only was the city the perfect backdrop but more importantly our marriage would be legal.

When we first began traveling to New York to search for venues I really wasn’t sure what we were looking for. We just wanted something that would have that unmistakable New York feel. We also wanted it to be an amazing experience for both us and our guests. We ended up finding all of that and more in both of our venues. Neither one of us is overly religious, however when we first visited All Souls Church we just knew this was it. Standing on the altar during our visit I could visualize what our wedding would be; the lanterns running down the aisle, a string quartet playing in the background, the lights low, and lots of candles. It was magical. I think that was the first time it felt real for me. Choosing Eleven Madison Park as our reception was probably the easiest decision we had to make. Everything about the space just said classic New York and there is no questioning the quality of their staff and chef.

The best advice I could give to anyone is to stick to your vision, keep it simple, don’t let others define what your wedding should or should not be and don’t shy away from being different. We had our string quartet play all classical music while our guests were arriving; however for the actual ceremony we had them switch to top 40’s music. They played Rihanna, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, and Snow Patrol just to name a few. It helped cut the tension for both us and our guests and put a smile on everyone’s faces. We also tried to carry elements through from our invitation to the reception. Finally, we didn’t try and fight with the spaces. Everything about Eleven Madison Park was done in an art deco style. So we went with an art deco theme for our decor and played classic love songs from the 1930’s and 1940’s during our cocktail reception. The end result was a night we will never forget. Everyone warned us that our wedding day was going to fly by. While they were right, when I look back at our photos now I may not remember what was said, but I remember that feeling of love, joy, nervousness and that naive hope that all newlyweds have and it puts a smile on my face.

Engaged in New York City from Mikkel Paige Photography

New York City engagements have to be some of my favorite. The city provides limitless backdrops for picture perfect, frame-worthy moments. And when that city and those backdrops are paired with the talented Mikkel Paige, magic happens. The kind of magic that will make you want to devour these images all day long, and you can do just that right here.

From Mikkel PaigeSean is a self-described shy guy and Gina is his smiley and soft-spoken fiancee. But on this day there was no hiding their evident love as they walked around the Meatpacking District and lower Chelsea to capture this special chapter in their lives: their engagement.

The bride and groom live right across the river from NYC, in Weehawken, New Jersey, and see some of the best views the area has to offer. Though while New Jersey and the shores of nearby beaches is a big part of who they are, Manhattan also has a big role in their lives.

Because their wedding is in October in Red Bank, New Jersey on the Navesink River, they wanted their engagement photos to capture a different season and location. Thus, they chose New York City at the height of a fully blossoming, vibrant spring. Their outfits were carefully selected and added to the colorful scenery surrounding them. From the Standard hotel, with its bright yellow outdoor seating, to the pink and greens that drenched the beauty of The High Line, they, along with their photographer Mikkel Paige, covered architecture, urban graffiti, and lush greenery – all within a few blocks radius!

From the groom, Sean… We were going back and forth on where to do our engagement photos and we kept coming back to New York City. This is a place that is special to both of us and offered so many unique locations. Ultimately we decided on the Meatpacking District for its easy access to The High Line and many different textures Mikkel had to work with.

We wanted to wear casual clothes rather than making it too formal and wanted it to coincide with the spring theme. I went with a pair of Nantucket red pants from and a blue button down, both from JCrew. (They also provided a little touch of home for me – I grew up on Cape Cod.) Gina went with a salmon skirt and denim top, also from JCrew.

The actual engagement session came with a lot of nerves and anxiety for us. Neither Gina or I are terribly into having our picture taken. Our anxious anticipation was quickly quashed! Mikkel did an awesome job at making us feel comfortable and being in front of the camera suddenly felt natural.

The day was a sunny, breezy spring Saturday; we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Upon Mikkel’s recommendation we started down at the Standard Hotel in the late afternoon hour to capture the golden hour and made use of their trendy outdoor furniture. We then made our way around the Meatpacking District on a very cool journey Mikkel had previously scouted to capture the different offerings in the area. We finished on The High Line just in time for an awesome sunset to go with an even better hug. (We wanted to mimic an awesome message we learned during the afternoon: Hug Life.)

The session was great, we couldn’t be happier with how the pictures came out. Mikkel did an unbelievable job in making us feel comfortable and bringing out the best in us (easy when you have a beautiful subject like Gina, not as easy to do with a subject like me). We are so glad our friends passed Mikkel on as a recommendation to us!

From the bride, Gina… We spend a lot of time in NYC and couldn’t think of a better place to do our engagement photos. The Meatpacking District and Chelsea areas have some of the best spots Manhattan has to offer – old school NY emulated by the cobble stone streets, fun modern architecture and of course, The High Line.

Sean and I were a bit nervous leading up to the day of the session. We weren’t sure what to expect and we both can get a bit camera shy. However, as soon as we got there and saw Mikkel, we loosened up after the first few shots and just had fun with it! Mikkel made it so easy to be ourselves and beautifully captured us simply enjoying ourselves and being naturally happy.

Overall it was an amazing day that was fun, playful and loving. It really captured who we are and it made us much more comfortable with being the center of attention for our photos on our wedding day.

ABOUT THE RING
From Sean… Gina’s ring was designed by Ken & Dana Design located in New York City. They did an awesome job of transforming the idea I had in my head into a physical reality. We were both blown away by their craftsmanship and the ease of the whole process; we are now clients for life and have referred a few of our friends their way.

From Gina… I’m in love with my ring, it’s exactly what I wanted. Sean nailed it! It’s a round cut diamond surrounded by a diamond filled halo. It’s delicate and timeless – I receive many compliments on it! Ken & Dana, the husband and wife team that designed it in their NYC loft location, are two of the nicest people.

Glam Rock Inspired Photo Shoot from Clean Plate Pictures + Michelle Ferrara Handmade

It’s no secret that soft, pastel-loving weddings are oh so “in.” But every once in a while, it’s good to take a little walk on the wild side. To dive head first into a rock ‘n’ roll-inspired shoot that just with oozes with glam. And when Clean Plate Pictures and Michelle Ferrara Handmade are orchestrating every vibrant little detail (hello, gold dipped feathers!), you better believe it’s gonna be one for the books. Have a peek at the full gallery and don’t miss Mint Wedding Cinematography’s film for a behind-the-scenes look.

[iframe //player.vimeo.com/video/70328086?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&color=fd7761 600 338]

From Clean Plate Pictures I knew that I wanted to collaborate on a styled shoot with Michelle, and from the very beginning we talked about infusing it with a glam, edgy, rock ‘n’ roll vibe. I suggested the Basilica Hudson; the space has such a cool, industrial look to it, and I knew it would provide the perfect backdrop for our shoot. I called in the super-talented Jackie Schneider for hair and makeup, and from there, we all began brainstorming. On my wish list: a marquee light! And photos along the train tracks, just outside of the venue, were a must.

From Michelle Ferrara HandmadeHaving seen a lot of the same trends in wedding style recently, I knew immediately that I wanted to do something different for this shoot. As much as I love a soft, lacy, perfectly pastel wedding, Erica and I both agreed that it would really be a blast to go in the complete opposite direction. Our visual starting point was actually the cover of David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane. (I mean, what’s cooler than that lightning bolt?) Our color palette: an ombre effect made up of vibrant shades of flame red, cherry, magenta, and purple….plus a whole lot of gold. The theme came to life though a wide array of handmade details, vivid florals, and some seriously cool wedding fashion. Lightning bolt drink stirs and a giant marquee light (Erica’s wish!) hearkened back to our original inspiration. Boldly textured arrangements of peonies, protea, cockscomb and poppy pods in gold mercury glass softened the look while remaining true to the overall aesthetic. We dressed our bride Elena in head-to-toe gold sequins and glitter, complete with studded shoes; Lawrence, our groom, looked amazing in a very slim-fitting, fashion-forward tux by Michael Andrews Bespoke. Michelle Apiar of Haute So Sweet created the (*delicious*) ombre cake pops and wedding cake. Row upon row of metallic fringe, plenty of glitter and sequins, and a wall of gold-tipped feathers — it all really popped against the incredible, distressed brick walls of the Basilica.

New York City Wedding from Divine Light Photography

This Bryant Park wedding is the cutest thing ever. End of story. It’s the kind of day us girly girls dream of with those classic New York moments that sort of make me wish I called the Big Apple home. Add in pink peonies a’pleny from Michelle Edgemont and pretty capturing by Divine Light Photography, and my Friday morning has officially been made!

From Divine Light Photography...Nina and Jordan were married at the Bryant Park Grill overlooking beautiful Bryant Park in New York City. The two had originally scheduled their event to be held at the South Street Sea Port but because of damage from super storm sandy, the seaport canceled many weddings through 2013. A little rain on their wedding day and a change of venue didnt get this lovely bride down. The park was quiet and gorgeous with all the trees soaking up the light summer shower. Florist Michelle Edgemont shinned with er work being the focal point of every detail.

Long Island City Wedding from Christina Szczupak

The vision behind this New York day was perfectly simple: a minimalist approach to the traditional Hindu affair with whites, golds and greenery galore. A sort of urban garden party, if you will. And with The Foundry serving as the perfect backdrop, Naturally Delicious coordinating behind-the-scenes and Christina Szczupak capturing the day, it’s no wonder this gallery is chock full of cultural gorgeousness.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/66292989 601 338]

From the Bride…Munish asked me to marry him on a beautiful spring day in the most charming brick-walled garden in the West Village. Eleven months later, after five years together, we were married in an intimate ceremony surrounded by our closest friends and family at The Foundry in Long Island City, New York. I fell in love with the space at The Foundry even before seeing it in person. The atmosphere so perfectly fit with our vision for the day, and it also reminded us of the garden where we were engaged. I envisioned our wedding as an urban garden party with touches of the exotic, and we worked to create the perfect environment to merge Munish’s Indian heritage with both my upbringing in the Virginia countryside and our life together in New York City. Munish and I walked down the aisle together and met our four parents at the altar, or mandap, where we all exchanged hugs before beginning the Hindu ceremony. While Indian weddings are often extremely colorful with ornate decorations, we decided to take a more minimal approach, using a muted color palette of whites and golds with an abundance of greenery.

We wanted the mandap to look very organic, and our florist Ariel Dearie perfectly executed our vision with the structure she created from wood and delicate branches. We decorated The Foundry’s entrance with lanterns and vintage brass trays that I purchased from Etsy and eBay, and placed napkins screen printed with gold South Asian-inspired motifs at each table setting. We gifted Indian hand-carved woodblock stamps to our guests at the end of the evening, as well as CDs we made with songs important to our love story. Munish and I used deckle edge Italian stationary to create our programs, and we added our names with a beautiful stamp designed for us by Meagan Tidwell. Her calligraphy that graced our invitations, place cards, table numbers, and menu items added the loveliest touch to our wedding. She also created beautiful signs for our bars explaining our specialty cocktails: mine, a Pani-Puri Margarita, and Munish’s, a Perfect Manhattan. Shannon at Naturally Delicious worked with us to create a menu that reflected a wonderful fusion of Indian food and fresh, springtime Western dishes.

After dinner, our friends performed a Bollywood-style dance that they choreographed for us, which kicked off a dance party that lasted well into the night. Our fantastic photographer Christina Szczupak, who I am lucky enough to count as a great friend, captured our day with such a keen and beautiful eye, and Tree of Life, our videographers, created a film that perfectly reflects the spirit of our day.

A New York City Spring Proposal from Katie Markquart Photography

It’s probably not the biggest shocker in the world that proposals make me happy – I do spend my days gushing about love and marriage. But there is just something so so special about that little question that often happens on one knee. And when it all happens in the gorgeous Central Park with Katie Markquart Photography snapping up every every heart-warming moment – that’s when you simply can’t help but smile. See even more right here.

From KatieOlivia and Ethan were visiting New York City from California when Ethan asked Olivia to marry him. Central Park had special meaning for the couple since that was the place they first said “I love you”. Ethan contacted Katie Markquart Photography to capture the proposal and then they took engagement photographs directly afterwards. It was a gorgeous spring day and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The park was the perfect compliment to the couple as it was filled with light and beauty that day.

Sera & Sean planned their NYC wedding from their home in Singapore. They were engaged during a hike in the hills of Hong Kong overlooking the South China Sea so when it came to their wedding they chose an equally magical place – the city they met and fell in love in – New York!

The challenge of planning a wedding from the other side of the world was made easier with the help of Ryder Sloan Events. Sera did what she could from Singapore, designing the invitations, programs and escort cards herself and sourcing local printers in Singapore. Her mother made her veil and the day before the wedding her family and bridal party banded together to create deep red centerpieces of peonies, astilbe and eucalyptus. All done on the floor of their Bowery Hotel suite. Sera’s mother studied flower arranging for months leading up to the wedding and created the immaculate bouquets and boutonnieres herself.

They married on an unseasonably warm November day, which allowed the couple and bridal party to do a fair bit of walking around Nolita, home of their venue, Michelin awarded Public Restaurant. It’s an intimate space with moody lighting, rich wood floors, exposed brick and a glass wall showcasing their wine collection.

After an incredible meal that included roast New Zealand venison loin, and pan-seared Tasmanian sea trout, and a serious of hilarious toasts, Sera & Sean dressed in traditional gowns for the Korean ceremony portion of the evening. Parents and family members took turns tossing nuts to the wedded couple to symbolize fertility. If the amount they caught is any indication, they can expect an overwhelming amount of children!

A festive photo booth by Jenny Jimenez and DJ Colleen from Sugartown Industries kept the party rolling and feet on the dance floor late into the night, including the obligatory Gangnam style get down!

Hamptons Inspiration from Jacqueline Patton and Michelle Wolfe

If I could start my morning with this Hamptons inspiration shoot every day I think I’d require much less caffeine. Allow Me Events pulled together a look that is altogether casual, beautiful, and chic, and with Jacqueline Patton and Michelle Wolfe snapping the beautiful pictures, this gallery is worth a cup of coffee or two!

Our rustic Hamptons inspiration shoot was inspired by blending varying elements to create a garden-meets-ocean setting. Laid-back elegance was the overall feel. An ocean-front estate’s cliffside was the perfect location for a large farm-table, canopied in white fabric (using actual branches) and nestled into a clearing surrounded by trees. Kerri of Allow Me Events incorporated coral-pinks flowers as a pop of color among the moss and other greenery, all set atop a burlap runner.

The bride is dressed in a Coren Moore chiffon gown – perfect in heels AND in cowboy boots! The Coren Moore chiffon bridesmaid dresses in blush and mustard perfectly complimented the coral/green floral designs without being matchy-matchy.

Custom invitations were designed with a modern yet romantic and rustic aesthetic, incorporating the blush and mustard hues. Matching table-number cards were displayed in a bleached wood frame. And instead of cake, pies and tarts were the perfect dessert for this seaside fete.[dotted]

New York City Wedding by Genevieve Nisly Photography

I’ve been in a New York state of mind lately, so this elopement from Genevieve Nisly Photography is calling, nay yelling, my name. The photographs are beautifully simple: telling the story of the lovebirds and their city on the most romantic day of their lives. Can you hear me swooning?

From the beautiful bride… Eloping is AWESOME! It is still just as meaningful without the stress. We wanted the wedding to be about us and getting married. We wanted to do something that felt different than what we normally see.(Since we are wedding photographers ourselves.) The day did not feel over-planned, rather lighthearted and fun!

There were many favorite parts of the day. I spent the morning by myself. Some people may find this depressing, but it was a great opportunity to reflect. I loved riding the train by myself. (first time!) Jarred and I got dressed together. It was refreshing to ignore regular traditions. I was surprised with a broach bouquet from HeatherLily Floral. We loved having James and Genevieve at our wedding. It meant a lot to us to have them there and going along with our last minute plans. They were our photographers, wedding party, and witnesses! I cried when Alice (officiant) read the letter Jarred wrote to me. This was definitely unexpected. Having a private ceremony allowed real emotions to show. The rest of the day was loosely planned. We roamed New York City, fed each other cupcakes, and listened to street music on the train.

I think other couples should plan a wedding that makes them happy. Choose wedding pros that make you feel comfortable. Photographs are so important. They really are one of the few physical items left over from the wedding.

West Village, New York City Engagement from Veronica Lola Photography

Home is where the heart is, right? So, why not do your e-sesh right in your own home and neighborhood like these two sweethearts captured by Veronica Lola Photography. To look back and remember where some of your favorite first memories were made… it doesn’t get better than that! See it all here.

From VeronicaI’m excited to share a beautiful couple, managing a long distance love (Montreal-NYC) while planning a wedding in Tuscany. Can you say dreamy love story? They wanted me to photograph them on their couch, in the comfort of their soho living room, which was a first for me, but was ecstatic at the opportunity. Stuart, a south african native, also introduced me to the best chocolate chip cookie place in all of New York. Lets just say, I loved these two. I can only imagine how beautiful their Tuscan wedding will be next summer (Which I will be shooting, did I mention?! Yeeee!)

New York City Wedding from Karen Hill Photography

There’s just something about Karen Hill Photography. Her images have that old New York charm. The feeling you get when the light is just right, and the air has just the perfect amount of crisp in it, and you can feel the happiness all around you. Which is why we adore weddings like this one… shot by Karen, and without question, perfectly gorgeous.

From the photography… Liz and Julien’s wedding ceremony took place at Summit Rock in Central Park with only their closest friends and relatives, including Julien’s from France, in attendance. Everyone headed over to the Four Seasons for the reception, with Liz and Julien in a vintage Checker Cab! Liz made all the Save the Dates by hand. Their wedding was exactly what they wanted, intimate, unfussy and completely their own. It was fun, loving, different and full of life!

Montauk Yacht Club Wedding from Brklyn View Photography

Weddings like this one make my heart skip a beat.  Maybe it’s the preppy chic meets classically gorgeous meets dash of contemporary awesomeness of it all… or maybe it’s because it’s just so darn pretty.  Either way, I’ve been hooked ever since the very moment I spotted these beautiful images from Brklyn View Photography, and I haven’t looked back since.  It’s a day that is boasting more than its fair share of amazing and you can see it all right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Even though Michael and I were living in San Francisco, we dreamed of getting married in the town we met: Montauk, New York, a fishing village turned hip surfer town on the very end of Long Island. It was important for us to hold a small wedding at a singular venue, so we could maximize the quality time with our friends and family. The Montauk Yacht Club fit our vision perfectly; minimalist with a soft touch of nautical and tons of natural light.

We used a palette of soft pastels and hoards of candlelight to create a flattering, inviting atmosphere. Small personal touches made it feel like us.  Escort cards alerted guests that they had reservations at our favorite Montauk restaurants. Rubber initial stamps were used on everything from cocktail napkins to gift bags. And for dessert we treated ourselves to our favorite local pies. After being in countless weddings, we were determined to have our wedding parties comfortable in clothing that fit their personal style and budget. I thought the bridesmaids looked like a bucket of sherbet!

My absolute favorite part of the wedding was the ceremony. We poured over the wording with our officient, adding personal touches like the tying of the knot ceremony, the blessing of the hands and a beautiful reading. Using the Yacht Clubs dramatic fireplace as our backdrop, we covered the mantle with different height candles, lanterns, and romantic gatherings of babys breath. It took my breath away when I entered. The biggest compliment was when our guests told us how touched they were by the ceremony and how it truly felt like us. Even some of the guys cried![dotted]

Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers Wedding from Brklyn View Photography

Understated elegance is my end-all be-all. Plain and simple. So when I come across a wedding like this beauty at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers by Brklyn View Photography, my heart immediately surrenders to all the pretty. I can’t help myself. I wave my wedding-loving white flag proud, and plan the rest of my day around every chic moment sitting in this gallery. The entire affair is simply the epitome of style, and when the beautiful Bride just so happens to be the PR darling of the TODAY Show, I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised. See every stylish second here.

From brklyn viewThe two southerners met in New York City, and for their wedding, they wanted to bring a relaxed southern feel to the urban loft finish of New York City’s Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. The venue’s sweeping views of the Hudson River combined with classic touches of the South made for a memorable night for the 220 guests that gathered for the event. Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb even chatted about the wedding on the TODAY show (starting at 1:15).

Many elements of southern style were incorporated into the affair, from the food and music to the decor and attire including: magnolia, gardenia, mason jars, luminaries, bow-ties, burlap, twine, grits and good bourbon.Since the couple tied the knot on a Friday night, it was essential to them to create a party-like celebration from beginning to end. Guests were first greeted at the ceremony with glasses of champagne, wine and cocktails to enjoy during the traditional Methodist service. Cocktail hour was filled with hearty hors d’oeuvres and plentiful cocktails (including a specialty Tea Time: Grey Goose Le Citron, St. Germaine, iced tea, and fresh lemon), and the reception started and ended with lots of dancing. The music was the most important element to the couple, and the Michael Hart band played nonstop through the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. The ceremony music was done on piano, horn and acoustic guitar and the processional included the Hawaiian version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and In My Life by The Beatles. The bridal attendants walked down the aisle to Lean On Me by Bill Withers, and the bride walked to Pachelbel’s Cannon in D. The guests sang the hymn, Morning Has Broken during the service, and Stevie Wonder’s Signed Sealed Delivered was played as the recessional. The couple’s first dance was Jambalaya (On the Bayou) by Hank Williams, the father/daughter dance was Take It Easy by The Eagles, and the mother/son Dance was to How Sweet it Is by James Taylor. The band kept guests on the dance floor all night playing an upbeat mix of pop, soul, funk, R&B, and classic southern oldies. Their rendition of Michael Jackson’s Thriller was a showstopper, and the TODAY show’s Savannah Guthrie and Natalie Morales joined the bride on the dance floor for a rowdy version of Gangnam Style.

Adding to the party-like atmosphere was a Polaroid Photo Booth where guests took Polaroids and clipped them with mini clothespins on twine draped between two ladders. Props from the couples alma matters included the bride’s Carolina blue pom poms from her days as a cheerleader at UNC Chapel Hill, a Georgia Bulldog foam sign from the groom’s school, UGA, and an original Jerry Stackhouse jersey that the groom gave the bride as a Christmas present when they first started dating. During the reception, white light-up “diamond” rings were passed out to the guests and when the party was in full swing, inflatable microphones and instruments, and mini tambourines were circulated and joyfully utilized on the dance floor.

For the menu, Abigail Kirsch designed several stations of the couple’s favorite foods: Soul Food Stations with shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, crunchy bayou chicken, truffled mac and cheese, collard greens and homemade biscuits. Taco Stand Stations with braised pork tacos, grilled mahi tacos and vegetable tacos, chipotle cheese fries and margarita sippers. Slider Stations with pulled beef sliders, lump crab cake sliders, grilled portabella sliders, regular and sweet potato fries and cole slaw. The groom’s cake was made by the couple’s favorite bakery, NYC’s Sweet Revenge and was designed as two suitcases with a one way ticket to symbolize the couples’ years of long distance dating and the groom’s eventual move from Atlanta to New York.Notable wedding guests included Meredith Vieira, Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Natalie Morales, Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, Deborah Roberts, Ann Curry, Lester Holt, Amy Robach, Andrew Shue, Bobbie Thomas (bridesmaid), Sara Haines and Jill Martin.

Brooklyn Botanical Garden Spring Wedding from Servidone Studios Photography

The Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden is what wedding venue dreams are made of. I’ve never seen a wedding there I didn’t love, and this beauty by Servidone Studios Photography keeps that tradition running strong. It’s classic elegance defined, and there is even more pretty to soak up right here.

From Servidone StudiosColleen and Conor are two of the absolute sweetest people you will ever meet. Having such a perfect wedding day couldn’t have happened to two more deserving people! Their day was elegant: Conor donned a tuxedo, and Colleen looked like a blonde Audrey Hepburn with her classic hair style.

The Palm house set in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens was stunning! We were lucky enough to have the cherry blossoms in full bloom, and we took full advantage of the LOVELY surroundings for photographs. As for the decor, it was classic and bright… Shades of white, with a touch of sparkle. Elegant perfection. The party was nothing short of amazing, the band, The Rhythm Shop, kept the party going, and going, and going…

Tribeca Rooftop Wedding from Lindsay Madden Photography + Fiore Films

Weddings like this one make it so, so easy to fall in love with weddings.  You know what I am talking about.  Those affairs that just burst with sophistication and elegance every which way you turn; the kind of wedding where the bride looks absolutely stunning, the groom is beyond dapper and every detail is picture perfect?  This is one of those weddings.  A stop-you-in-your-tracks soiree completely overflowing with beauty.  See every last contemporary meets classic moment captured by Lindsay Madden right here in the full gallery.

And a Fiore Films beauty to fill your day with even more inspiration… enjoy, lovelies.

From the Bride… Michael and I met in April 2008 at our former job in Westchester, New York. I always loved his humor and how wonderful a friend he was to me and eventually it grew into love in July 2009. Michael proposed to me on our puppy’s 1st birthday in June 2012 and that started our journey as a family together. We picked Tribeca Rooftop because of the amazing skyline views and it had the modern feel we were both looking for. We had a ton of out of town guests coming to attend our wedding so we knew it had to be an uber chic NYC wedding.

From the moment we got engaged I knew I wanted my colors to be yellow, gray and white. I think they are so classy yet fun. Yellow means sunshine and happiness to me and I could not have been happier with the way all of the flowers turned out. Our centerpieces were breathtaking. The room looked absolutely gorgeous and I personally think we had the most beautiful chuppah I have ever seen!

I found my wedding dress online and from the moment I saw it, I knew it was going to be the one. Right when I tried it on in Kleinfelds in NYC, I immediately knew. It was love at first sight! The bridesmaids’ dresses were charcoal gray Amsale dresses that we purchased at the Wedding Library in NYC. I saw them in a magazine and knew I had to have them for my girls. I wanted them to shine as much as me on my special day.

Everything about the weekend turned out perfectly! There was not one person who did not tell me how amazing it was that our dog, Nala, got to walk down the aisle. She made the night so original and spectacular for us!

Brooklyn Wedding at The Green Building from Heidi Benjamin Photography

If this breathtaking Brooklyn wedding doesn’t make your entire weekend (+ week + month + year), then I don’t know will.  And I am sooo serious, lovelies.  Because this wedding?  This DIY masterpiece held at the ever-amazing Green Building?  It’s downright amazing.  With a bride and groom who couldn’t be cuter (don’t miss their true love fairytale below), a plethora of vintage-inspired details and a cozy meets intimate vibe that is all kinds of wonderful.  See it all captured by Heidi Benjamin Photography in the full gallery.  It’s a beauty.

From the Bride… My wedding was a magical day, to say the least. Each time I look through our photos or watch our video of the day, I’m immediately taken back to the day – the blizzard, our nearest & dearest, the cozy atmosphere we created in The Green Building, the sheer joy of it all. I hope that by looking at these photos you feel like you were right there, too!

Michael and I met one cold night in December 2009 while shopping for ribbon at Kate’s Paperie on W. 57th Street. We chatted for a bit but left without exchanging numbers. With every step outside the store, I wanted to go back and introduce myself, but I was too shy. Our story is epic– and includes posting a Craigslist Missed Connection notice and a time span of many months plus help from our good friends. Finally, we found each other again! “Kate’s Paperie Boy” and I celebrated my Sound of Music opening night performance over martini’s and sealed the night with a kiss. We’ve been together ever since!

We managed to pull off the whole she-bang – from engagement to “I do!” – in about three months. It was pretty fast, but once we got engaged we just couldn’t wait to get married! We got engaged just before Thanksgiving – right at the height of business for my baking company – so after we nailed down the date, the venue, the dress, and the officiant, we had to put most of the rest of the planning on hold until after the holidays. The majority of the details were figured out the month before! Sounds crazy, I know, but the good thing about it was that I didn’t have time to second guess myself. I had to trust my instincts and own personal style and go with it. The wedding that we ended up having was so personal, so heartfelt, and so us. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Although we looked at various venues Upstate, we decided on The Green Building here in Brooklyn in order to make it easier on our guests traveling in from out of town. Neither of our families live on the East Coast. This wound up being an enormous blessing, because we had a blizzard on our wedding day! Thank Heaven for public transportation! It was an added bonus that The Green Building is simply gorgeous! Those vaulted ceilings, chandeliers, and rows and rows of exposed brick – quite the romantic backdrop.

After reading A Practical Wedding by Meg Keene (A must read for every Bride on a budget), I became charmed by the fact that for hundreds of years weddings happened in the home – in parlours, in living rooms, in backyards. Anyone who’s ever lived in NYC knows that it would be difficult to fit ten people, let alone two large families and a group of friends into a living room, so we decided to bring our living room – our parlour – into The Green Building. We wanted it to feel like an extension of our individual apartments in one, new space – our first dinner party as a married couple. Almost all of the items – decor, serving-ware, furniture – are items that we have each collected over the years. Bringing our own things also helped keep costs down! Also, as we met buying ribbon, there was a slight ribbon theme in the decor and graphics – how could there not be?

Having a small baking business in Brooklyn, I know quite a few amazing vendors, so when it came time to decide on flowers, dessert, food, and a few of the furniture rentals, I went with my favorites. This only added to the feeling that our friends and family were truly surrounding us on our big day – supporting and celebrating this enormous, crazy, wonderful commitment.

Some of our favorite details…

Our cocktails: My company, Butter + Love, uses a lot of jam, specifically Bonne Maman jam. I have a hard time throwing things away, so by the time we got engaged I had collected almost 300 Bonne Maman jam jars! When trying to figure out what to do for our signature cocktail, I had the idea to pre-mix the cocktail in the jars – when it came time to hand them out to guests all the bar tender had to do was unscrew the lid, add some ice and add a straw and stir stick! They looked adorable all piled up on the bar. And I love a gingham lid.

Our favors: I made Red Velvet sandwich cookies (with a cream cheese/white chocolate ganache) and piled them in clear boxes topped with a hand-made pom pom on top. Adorable and delicious!

Our cake: I wasn’t going to have a wedding cake – and rather, have a dessert table using the amazing creations of my talented friends. However, when Jen (of Liddabit) heard that she told me she was making me a cake and wouldn’t take no for an answer! I gave her my recipe for Guinness Chocolate Cake and she created a four-tiered, choclate-y buttercream masterpiece! We loved it!

Our cake toppers: Michael’s father, Steve, hand carved our initials out of wood from his home in Portland, Oregon. He wasn’t sure which grain would best suit our decor, so he made three sets out of three different types of wood! We were able to place the other two sets around the room. It was a very sweet gesture.

A few things that made this wedding-on-a-budget possible…

1) Recruiting friends and family to help with set-up and tear down. It takes a village to throw a budget-friendly wedding. We are forever grateful for the help we had.
2) We had a small ceremony, followed by an intimate dinner, and then opened up the reception to a larger group of guests, serving light, party food. This allowed us to have the sit down, family style meal we wanted while not breaking the bank.
3) We had an off-season wedding and got married on a Friday night. Thinking a bit outside the box with when/where your wedding happens opens up a lot of possibilities for a unique day!

A note about one of the photos — There is a photo of our wedding rings wrapped in ribbon – that is the ribbon Michael bought the night we met. Cue: Awwww.

Surprise Proposal from Charlie Juliet

When you work in the wedding world, there is really nothing as amazing as a surprise proposal. Especially one featuring two cute-as-can-be sweethearts, a breathtaking Brooklyn backdrop and a crafty groom-to-be.  And this happy-filled proposal?  Well, it has all three.  Plus, one love-filled (+ uber-joyous) moment after another captured in amazing images by Charlie Juliet and a sweet description from the soon-to-be Mrs. that will leave you smiling all week.  Check it out in the full gallery.

From the Bride-to-Be…When the opportunity presented itself to schedule a couples shoot with CJ, I immediately jumped on it. CJ and I have been friends since Design School; knowing first-hand how talented she is, I just couldn’t pass up the chance to get in front of her camera! Little did I know, Rob had already been planning on proposing around the same time… later on he told me that when I mentioned the idea of the photoshoot to him, I was giving him the perfect “layup” — how could he not propose then?!

The day of the shoot, we met CJ at one of our favorite spots in Brooklyn. I jokingly brought along a “diamond” cocktail ring for the shoot — upon my mentioning this to CJ, Rob quickly jumped at the opportunity to swap it out for the real thing. CJ, who was of course in on the plan, was ready to capture it all on camera. I was absolutely surprised by it all (which, in hindsight, seems a bit silly as this had all the makings of an engagement shoot!) but in the end, I can’t imagine it having happened in a more perfect way.

Being able to share CJ’s photos with our friends and family was by far one of the highlights of the day — I don’t think either Rob or myself could have realized how meaningful that would end up being to us. CJ beautifully captured just how happy both of us were that day; being able to share these once-in-a-lifetime images with those closest to use is more than we ever could have asked for.
