Lasdon Park New York Wedding from Caroline Frost Photography

From this point on, when I think of drop-dead gorgeous garden affairs, I will think of this stunning (and I mean stunning) Lasdon Park and Arboretum wedding.  A wedding sooo full of pretty and outdoor-infused loveliness, it’s almost impossible to NOT love every second captured beautifully by Caroline Frost Photography.  I’m talking one moment after another of lush blooms from Judd’s Flowers and a Mikaella Bridal masterpiece.  See it all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… When my husband and I first started talking about getting married we agreed almost instantly that we wanted a laid back, intimate, outdoor wedding. When our family friend suggested Lasdon Park and Arboretum, we went to visit the park and immediately knew this was the place we wanted to get married. The park, which is part of Westchester County’s botanical gardens, is over 200 acres of beautiful gardens, woodlands, open grass and the three story colonial-style main house was the icing on the cake. It held two beautiful bridal suites for all of us to get ready and relax in during the day and was exactly what we were looking for.

When deciding on how we wanted our guests to portray our wedding as whole, we knew it had to be reflective of our personalities. We are both laid back people, who don’t necessarily like being the center of attention, so we wanted our wedding to be just as much about our guests as it was about us. We wanted everyone to be able to really relax, enjoy themselves and most importantly, dance the freaking night away!

The colors of our wedding were chosen to really celebrate the season of summer and our gorgeous surroundings. And since our venue was literally a botanical garden, we really wanted our flower selections to represent that, from our centerpieces to our bouquets. For the attire, we chose a horizon blue for the girl’s dresses and a classic grey for the guys. The guys also wore black leather Converse sneakers which could not be more fitting since Converses are the only type of shoe Lou has worn since he was in middle school!

When going through the details of the wedding we knew we wanted this to be a personal and unique day. Two of Lou’s close friends are incredibly talented musicians and singers and there was no doubt in our minds that we wanted them to be a part of our day. Jared and Ryan (who are brothers) performed our first dance, father/daughter dance and music for the ceremony. We loved how their performances added the personal and intimate touch we were going for and were truly the highlights of our wedding.

All in all our wedding was more than we ever could have hoped for. It completed reflected our personalities and us as couple. We had the time of our lives and so did our guests!

Fall Wedding Inspiration from Design*Sponge + Giveaway!

The folks at Design*Sponge are one talented team. We’ve oogled over their site for years (and that’s a long time in blog land), and it’s always one of the first we check when we open the computer in the morning. So when we heard they were sending over some wedding inspiration, we literally dropped everything to sit by our computers until it hit our inbox. And boy did they crank out some pretty. It all took place at the fabulous Terrain at Styers, and is filled with stunning florals from Sullivan Owen, a perfectly pretty cake by Lael Cakes, and lovely details all styled by Ginny Branch Stelling. Long story short, this shoot captured by de la Barra Photography is a stunner, and you’ll want to catch it all right here. Oh! And be sure to check out the giveaway below, it’s beyond.

From Design*Sponge… This is the first ever design*sponge wedding inspiration shoot. We were inspired by the merlot-colored dinner plate dahlias that we kept seeing at the floral market. With that color in mind, we headed off to one of our favorite places on the East Coast – Terrain at Stylers just outside of Philadelphia. We took our Brooklyn crew, including one of our favorite wedding photographers, Jorge de la Barra, down to Philly to spend a day creating an wedding inspiration shoot. Philadelphia florist, Sullivan Owen created loose wild arrangements filled with our inspiration flower. And Lael Cakes made a beautiful simple cake to compliment her flowers.

And it gets even better, lovelies! Because the super talented de la Barra Photography is giving away (you read that right!) an engagement shoot in New York City styled by none other than the talents at Design Sponge. Our jaws hit our desks when we heard that too – It simply doesn’t get any more stylish than that little combo. To enter just like de la Barra Photography’s facebook page and leave a comment below letting us know how you knew your main squeeze was the one. We’ll pick a winner on November 15th. Best of luck everyone! xoxo

Martha Clara Vineyards Wedding from W Studios New York

Everything about this wedding at Martha Clara Vineyards from W Studios New York makes me beyond happy. It put permanent grin on my face the minute I opened it, and what’s better than that on a Friday morning? With a picture perfect palette, lovely florals from Moments in Time and love-filled details sprinkled throughout, you don’t want to miss all the happy sitting right here.

From W Studios New YorkKatie & Andre planned the perfect wedding on the North Fork. Not only did they have a stunning vineyard for their ceremony and reception, but they also rented a house right on the water to get ready in on the big day. Katie along with her mom and mother in law spent her free weekends collecting bottles & jars for her centerpieces, hunting for just the right votive holders, making burlap runners, and creating paper tag placement cards. It all paid off as the details came together beautiful for the celebration. One of our favorite moments of the night was the heart felt cheers and greetings that came from the crowd of friends and family as the newlyweds strolled out of the barn lit by the glow of the sparklers!

From The Bride (Katie)…Our wedding felt like a fairy tale, everything was absolutely perfectly (minus me forgetting the marriage license at the house that we were staying at the day of the wedding! Oops it all worked out though!) The day was filled with so much love between Andre and I and our family and friends.

The morning of our wedding it was raining and kind of gloomy, even as I was walking down the aisle it had stopped raining but the sky was filled with clouds and the wind was blowing. Before I finish the story of our wedding, I have to give you a little history on Andre and I. We have been dating for over five years now and towards the beginning of our relationship around six months in Andre’s father passed away (it was so sudden and heart breaking, I’m sad that I never really got to know my father-in-law.) I love hearing stories about Andre’s dad, how he was always the life of the party and made friends with everyone he met and had such a strong will. During our ceremony you can see all of the dark clouds behind us, at one point our reverend acknowledged all of those who were not present at the wedding but with us in spirit. After that the clouds started to break and the most beautiful blue sky started peaking though. This was a sign from his dad that everything was going to be alright and he was with us. You can see it in the pictures! It was such a touching moment, I think that everyone there had goose bumps! It was amazing and beautiful!

I have to say that this was truly the best day of our lives.

New York City Wedding at the Gramercy Park Hotel from Robert & Kathleen Photographers

With its snowy NYC backdrop, breathtaking candlelit everything and stunning Gramercy Park Hotel setting, this glamorous wedding is the literal definition of romantic.  Which makes perfect sense, really, since this darling bride and groom have one of those crazy cool love stories that is straight-from-a-movie awesome.  Think chance meeting in an elevator meets Paris proposal and you’re on the right track.  Add in the ever-talented Robert & Kathleen Photographers to capture all of the pretty and this, my friends, is a day that deserves your full, undivided attention.  Click here for more.

From Robert & Kathleen Photographers… When Lauren’s friends ask her where they can meet a guy like Josh she has a very simple answer for them. “An elevator.”

It was an ordinary day. Lauren was heading out to take her dog for a walk when the elevator doors opened. There was Josh. Tall, handsome Josh with kind eyes and shy smile. They rode together long enough to learn each other’s names and for Lauren to find out that Josh was new to the building and to Florida, in general. Josh knew he had to get to know that gorgeous blonde whose smile he couldn’t seem to forget. It didn’t take long for a first date to be made and the two of them to hit it off. Living in the same building, they got to know each other quickly and found it surprising (and nice) just how easily they fit into each other’s lives. Lauren showed Josh around her home state, quickly making him feel very much at home there. Josh would return the favor, bringing Lauren up to Connecticut to meet his family and see where he grew up.

What you’ll quickly discover about Josh is that he doesn’t do anything half way. He swept Lauren off her feet better than most leading men do in romantic comedies. But that’s not to say what they have isn’t real. What they have it so sweet, so genuine that the best examples of anything remotely similar that come to mind are from the best books and movies. Because what they have is not only real, it’s rare.

Because it’s rare that you find a man willing to put his heart out there and tell you exactly how he feels. Rare to find a mind that flies you to one of the most romantic cities in the world and asks you to be his wife in a suite overlooking the Eiffel tower. But Josh did just that. Because he knew that what he had found was rare, too. He knew it was rare to find a woman who was just as kind as she was beautiful. Rare to find a woman who was supportive of him and who truly thought for herself. Even more, they knew it was rare to find someone that their friends and family loved almost as much as they did. Because their friends and family could see exactly what they already knew – together, they had become better versions of themselves.

They decided on a destination wedding of sorts, having his family from Connecticut and her family from Florida all gather together in another one of the world’s most romantic cities for their big day. The scene was set: NYC in December. It was a cold day and there was a threat of snow that would have made a lot of other brides nervous. Not Lauren. The cold was a change of pace for her and the snow was the icing on the cake. She could think of few things more romantic than to have snow falling as they said their vows under the glass roof of the Gramercy Park Hotel. And – to top it all off – this was the first snow some of her guests had ever seen. (I have to say, standing there and watching the wonder of snowy NYC through the eyes of Lauren’s sweet friends and family made me fall in love with the city all over again.) But even that, even NYC and the snow falling were no match to the magic of Lauren and Josh themselves. Watching them say their vows, seeing the way they looked up at each and held hands so tight during the ceremony. They were flanked by a sea of friends and family (with crying bridesmaids in the front) all smiling broadly while they shared their first dance.

It was enough to make even the hardest heart melt just a little bit. Enough to make many a single girl to head to the elevator, looking for exactly what Lauren and Josh have found.

Shelter Island, New York Wedding from Kate Osborne Photography

The images sitting in this gallery from Kate Osborne Photography are nothing short of art. Beautiful works of art that left me speechless and aching for more from the moment I laid eyes on them. There simply aren’t words pretty enough to describe how I feel about just how gorgeous this seaside soiree is, but you can see for yourself right here.

From Kate Osborne PhotographyNadine and David had a beautiful beachside wedding on Shelter Island New York. Nadine and David had friends and family fly in from across the world from England and Brazil to celebrate with them. Nadine is from England with a Chinese/American heritage and David grew up all over the globe. They met in the states and decided to have the wedding in the beautiful Hamptons. The night was filled with a mix of culture, languages, food and celebration. It was a simple yet beautiful day as friends and family all gathered together on this charming island to celebrate such an amazingly kind and beautiful couple.

Hamptons Engagement Shoot from Alicia Swedenborg

Plain and simple, this Hamptons engagement shoot from Alicia Swedenborg is just gorgeous. Maybe it’s the light, maybe it’s the gorgeous photography, maybe it’s the stunning couple, maybe it’s all of the above – whatever it may be, it makes this gallery of images as pretty as they come. See it all here.

From the couple…As Michael, a Consultant at the management consultancy Accenture, was thumbing through stacks of resumes looking for Analysts to round out a newly formed project team, he could never have imagined that years later he would become engaged to the girl whose resume sat atop the pile. When he greeted Whitney for the first day of her new assignment, a relationship began that would evolve from professional to personal and from colleagues to couple.

Whitney and Michael would spend several months working across clients, industries, and geographies, learning from one another while collaborating on assignments. It would take two years of being close associates before a casual Friday evening on Manhattan’s Upper East Side would turn into an unforgettable night that would shape the rest of their lives. Surprising none of their mutual friends, Whitney and Michael’s relationship began over dinner, and they have never looked back.

I grew up spending every summer with my family in the Hamptons hamlet of Quogue, and lots of time in the neighboring village of Westhampton. I started bringing Mike out the first summer we started dating to spend time at the beach and with the friends I grew up with. The following summer we got our own little place and continued to do so the following 5 years. It has become a special weekend getaway for us from the NYC craziness and a place we love to bring our friends. We considered getting married out there but when we landed on a venue in Manhattan, we knew we had to take our engagement pictures there. We took pictures in the village, at our favorite bar (John Scott’s Surf Shack!), and where we stayed on Dune Road (the Beehive Bungalows).

Romantic New York Wedding at Water’s Edge from Kelly Kollar Photography

Sometimes I get so caught up in the modern meets lofty awesomeness of NYC affairs that I forget about the other side of New York weddings.  That soft, romantic side that sort of blows your mind with pretty. Romantic weddings like this one from the ever-talented Kelly Kollar Photography; a day that is sooo sophisticated and sooo elegant, you almost need a new adjective to describe it.  See exactly why right here.

And even more amazing from First Day Films… enjoy, lovelies.

From Kelly Kollar Photography As a photographer who loves all things beautiful, I am always thrilled to arrive at a wedding and see that the bride to be has put so much love and attention in to making her day truly a work of art. Coleen did just that. Right off the bat I could tell she was going to be a naturally stunning bride. She chose one of my favorite make up artists, Stacie Ford, who’s work is always subtle and flawless. Stacie’s work was perfectly complimented by the hair styling of Gina Brady of Hairstories, who created free flowing, natural looks for Coleen and all of the bridesmaids.

The best part of the day for me was the moment I laid eye on Coleen’s stunning Marchesa gown! It was so unique… the perfect combination of simple lines and dramatic detailing. I have seen a lot of dresses over the years, but this one was truly special. Coleen accented her dress with simple Jimmy Choos and the same earrings that her mother wore on her own wedding day. All of the bridesmaids had different, but coordinated dresses, as well as unique jewelry. From the photographer’s perspective, these kind of subtle varieties make the photos stand out.

Both Coleen and her husband Matt are from the Rockaway/Breezy Point area, so it was really meaningful that they were able to get ready at their parent’s homes, be married in her childhood church and take photos on the local beach. The Water’s Edge in Long Island City was a perfect venue with it’s stunning views of the Manhattan skyline. We had a beautiful day, and it was so fun popping out of the reception to take nighttime photos with the classic NYC view as the backdrop. Inside, the couple danced the night away to awesome music by DJ’s @ Work and kept the party going!

Coleen also did an amazing job choosing her florist and paper design, choosing Rebecca Shepherd Floral Design and Drolet Paperie to set the aesthetic tone for the evening. Rebecca designed two beautiful centerpiece variations – One more classic oval centerpiece and one grouped centerpiece, which incorporated small mercury bud vases and pillared candles. In additional to the tables, Rebecca created a gorgeous floral scene on the escort card table, using distressed white picture frames and and flowers on a vine. Lauren from Drolet Paperie created perfect complimentary papered details, in the invitations, programs, escort cards, table numbers and dinner menus. I spent almost and hour photographing these beautiful details and every time that I looked through the lens I noticed something different!

It was an all around stunning day marked with impeccably thought out details. I had so much fun getting to capture it all!

Fall Wedding at Dutchess Manor from Caitlinn Mahar-Daniels

Yes, we celebrated all things fall yesterday, but I just couldn’t help but keep that party going when I came across this pretty soiree from Caitlinn Mahar-Daniels. And when I say pretty, I mean gorgeous. Blush dress, gorgeous. Autumn styling taken to an whole new level, gorgeous. Oh my goodness is this real life, gorgeous. It will make you want to hold onto the autumn months for just a tad bit longer, and you can do just that right here.

From the Groom…On April 8th, 2012 I asked Leanne to marry me. She thought we were heading to an Easter brunch with my family. What she didn’t know was that my family and hers were waiting at a local movie theater for us to arrive where she’d watch a movie trailer that she would eventually realize was a story about us, ending in a proposal. When we arrived our families were hiding in the back of the theater. We sat down together and the trailer began. Leanne was commenting on how she wanted to see the movie and didn’t realize it was about us until the final scene where she was surprised to see herself on the movie screen. She began to ask me “Stu, what is this?” and repeated it as she began to cry. Trying to hold back tears of my own, I got on my knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes, and as a final surprise her family came out and everyone applauded. It was the best day of my life.

From Caitlinn Mahar-Daniels…Stu is very clearly absolutely crazy madly in love with Leanne, and the best part is – she is about him as well. Not only are these two absolutely beautiful physically, but they may be even more beautiful human beings. The love, respect, consideration, and admiration they have for one another is for the history books.
Leanne’s dress by Watters was a show stopper. An champagne, pinkish, tan. To say I loved it would be an understatement.

There wedding day was a gorgeous October day – with temperatures in the 80’s! They fully embraced and accomplished an elegant fall wedding. Overflowing with King Crown Blue Pumpkins (like something out of a fairy tale) being the center focus of their centerpieces. Anemone’s being the star of the floral design, and lanterns decorating the backs of the ceremony chairs. The gold, tan, green, and brown color scheme was so elegant, SO beautiful, and SO unexpected for fall – and worked beyond my wildest dreams as their photographer.

The photographs speak for themselves when it comes to the ceremony. THE SKY! Oh my goodness…that sky. The sun was setting and the clouds were epic – it looked unreal and I am still in awe of it when I think back to the moment and view the photographs.

Apple Orchard Engagement from Amy Rizzuto

On this festive day, we thought we would celebrate all things fall on SMP New York, because really, we love any excuse we can get to cozy up with some autumn inspiration. And it doesn’t get more fall than an apple orchard engagement that is as adorable as this one from Amy Rizzuto. So break out the flannel shirts and boots, and join us in the full gallery of images for even more.

From the Amy RizzutoAs Danielle and Matt climbed higher up the mountain, the trees got prettier and prettier, each one twisting and winding in its own unique way. Ruby red apple filled the branches and the sun sparkled through the minty green leaves. Danielle and Matt laughed as they raced to see who could fill their wooden basket first. Apple picking is one of their favorite things to do together, and they couldn’t have picked a more beautiful farm to explore than Ochs Orchard. This hidden treasure sits on top of a mountain in Warwick, NY. Along with rows and rows of gorgeous apple trees, Ochs Orchard is filled with bright sun flowers, fresh vegetables, and even farm animals! It made the perfect place for Danielle and Matt to cozy up with two cups of fresh apple cider and watch the sun set over the rolling hills in the distance.

1920s Wedding Inspiration from Private Receptions

You know what’s better than an entire shoot dedicated to 1920’s glamour?  An entire shoot dedicated to 1920’s glamour that also happens to be planned and executed by a serious dream team of NYC vendors. Think the powerhouses that are Violet and VerdeCake AlchemySB Beauty and Private Receptions (just to name a few) all coming together to create a day of serious vintage-inspired lovely set against the amazing Green Building.  Yes, it’s awesome… and you can see it all captured by Moss + Isaac right here.

From Private ReceptionsPicture a smoky jazz club: a live band croons a love song while a man waits for his whiskey. A woman walks in and the crowd parts; their eyes meet. Drink forgotten the man asks the woman to dance… and dance… and dance. Fast forward to their wedding day…

The idea for our 1920’s shoot came from our good friend Bridget of Violet and Verde. When she approached us with the idea we immediately jumped on board and began assembling a team of our favorite vendors to work with! After choosing a color scheme of peach and lavender Bridget and I, together, looked for venues willing to host us.

My first thought for was The Green Building in Brooklyn with their intricate patterned walls, sexy speakeasy-esque room, and stunning chandelier. Fortunately, they were available and were happy to accommodate us. The incredibly talented Leigh Anna of Moss + Isaac provided photography for the day and captured the feel and beauty of the shoot perfectly, as always. I’m still stunned by how wonderful the photos turned out!

Of course, Bridget out-did herself with spectacular floral arrangements! She really brought the whole room to life with plump Juliet roses, lavender anemones, lamb’s ear, Amnesia roses, sweet peas, peonies and so much more. It was like a floral wonderland!

Sharon Becker of SB Beauty turned our models into 1920’s movie stars with hair and makeup. (Those eyes! That hair!) Hushed Commotion provided the gorgeous headpieces – the long veil she made specifically for the shoot! We all loved it so much we wanted to wear it, too!

The incredible china, cut glass, doilies, books, handkerchiefs and chair came from Little Vintage Rentals who were just wonderful to work with. (Thanks, Mandy!)

The outstanding cake and cupcakes was created especially for the shoot by Cake Alchemy. (Many thanks!)

Our stationer, A&P Design Co, was able to take the photos I sent her from the venue and translate them into a gorgeous letter-press invitation suite. She echoed the pattern on the walls in the entry-way onto the invitations! How gorgeous?!

…and they lived happily ever after.

Long Island Vintage Garden Party Backyard Wedding from Minnow Park

When a wedding has this much heart, you can almost feel it.  Like the pure joy and love that went into crafting this Big Day is almost too much for the internet to handle (it is).  I guess that has a little something to do with the darling bride and groom, who went about creating a day that will not only stand the test of time, but knock your socks off with its pretty.  Think lush, pink blooms from Violet and Verde meets a gorgeous backyard setting. From the Bride… My husband John and I were married on June 22, 2013 after 8 1/2 years together. We had just over 100 people, and carried on my parent’s tradition of marrying on my grandfather’s beautiful property in Woodbury, Long Island, NY.

We were so lucky to have had so many amazing family heirlooms to use that tied in perfectly with our vintage theme. We utilized my great-grandmother’s 1920’s sewing machine as a cake table (also a nod to my fashion design career), milk glass from our families (including some from my parent’s wedding on the same property) for our centerpieces, and lace from my mother’s dress adorned my self-made veil and wrapped all the bouquets.

Aside from all of the family antiques we injected into our big day, our wedding was largely DIY and definitely budget! I handmade my veil, sash, hair pieces for my MOH, and some signage. Our whole entire family pitched in to landscape the property, which was severely damaged by hurricane Sandy.

Basically, we put our hearts into this, everyone had a great time. and we are so proud of the finished product!

Brooklyn Botanic Garden Wedding from DM Events + Elisabeth Millay Photography

When the ladies of DM Events get their pretty little hands on a wedding, magic always tends to happen. They have this amazing way of transforming a day into something that is not only beautiful, but meaningful. This Brooklyn Botanic Garden beauty captured by Elisabeth Millay Photography is a perfect example. It’s layered with so much lovely I could cry (like the stunning stationery from Momental Designs and the breathtaking florals from the DM Events girls themselves), making it safe to say we have a winner on our hands. See it all here.

From DM EventsMaria and Teddy were a dream to work with! Not only are they the sweetest couple, they are truly in love and it shined through all aspects of their wedding.

Brooklyn Botanic Gardens provided the perfect backdrop for this romantic, floral-inspired wedding. Lush soft blooms were used in all of the arrangements and complimented the natural beauty of the property. The affair was filled with thoughtful touches throughout. One of the most beautiful decor elements was the wooden menus with hand painted blooms from the artwork of Kristy Rice from Momental Designs. Playing of the natural materials, we used birch votives to help bring some of the outdoor garden beauty into the reception.

The night was a blast! Guests danced to the tunes of The Elements, a fantastic band from Elan Artists, all night! It was awesome to see so many smiling faces in the photobooth, too! We are always thrilled to create a wedding that is not only beautiful, but also a fun celebration ?

And who else would we turn to other than the uber talented Elisabeth Millay to capture all of these lovely details. Our favorite detail was the whimsical bouquets carried by all the lovely ladies, each filled with blooms of peonies, ranunculus, and an abundance of lush greenery.

From beginning to end, the day was perfect and we were so honored to be a part of it!

Oheka Castle Wedding from Mel Barlow + DM Events

For someone who longs for life in Europe, Oheka Castle is a dream come true. Our very own castle, set close to home, and hello, it’s gorgeous. DM Events dressed the castle up for this beautiful couples wedding and holy cow, Mel Barlow, we’re obsessed with every single image you captured.

From DM Events… We fell in love with Ame and Mike early on when we realized that one party was just not going to be enough! The gracious couple hosted a party-filled wedding weekend at the stunning Oheka Castle.

The welcome party took place on the lush upper lawn of the estate. The guests, dressed in their best garden party attire, were invited to enjoy a BBQ fete under the stars in a setting we can only describe as garden chic meets BBQ glam! We selected a completely clear tent to ensure guests had unobstructed views of the grandeur of the property and gorgeous sunset. Staying true to our summer garden party concept, we wanted to dress down the tent with wooden farm tables adorned with a linen runner and soft, simple florals. And no garden party is complete without dancing under the stars so we worked with the amazing team at Frost Productions to create a star-filled ceiling of bistro lights.

When it came to the decor for the wedding reception, the couple wanted a design that was elegant, yet reserved. While the Terrace Room at the castle lends itself to being filled with heavy florals, we wanted the evening to feel more soft and romantic, so we chose to design the room around the luxurious feel of candlelight. Half of the tables featured varying sizes of antique silver candlesticks and pedestal candles only, and the room was aglow! We imagine it was illuminated the very same way when the castle was originally built! To complement the luxurious candlelight and lush blooms, we worked with Sesame Letterpress on the stationery suite and fell in love with the sweet coral monogram they created, and we applied throughout the design.

The weekend felt effortlessly perfect and we were elated to see our couple so happy and in love!

Finger Lakes Barn Wedding from Alexandra Meseke Photography

As a wedding blogger, every so often I come across a wedding that I absolutely must spend time with. I flip through the images one at a time and give each one a nice good look. I ooh and aah over and over again. Today’s wedding is just such a wedding. Alexandra Meseke Photography’s images of the day make it seem like such a beautiful, romantic, intimate affair, and I’m ridiculously grateful for the bride and groom allowing us a peek into their sweet day.

From the stunning bride… Sean and I were engaged in the Finger Lakes of New York in 2011 on my first trip to the area. Sean had been on previous wine tasting trips, and brought me back to propose knowing that I would fall in love with the beautiful gorges, rustic farms, and vineyards lining the glacial lakes. He was right. He proposed on a hike at Watkins Glenn State Park and I’ll never forget the beauty of it all. As fate would have it we celebrated with dinner at Suzanne’s Fine Dining in Lodi and learned of a majestic barn on the property. After an evening tour by the owner, we knew it was the spot for our wedding. Two years later we came back with 50 of our closest friends and family for what I can only describe as a magical long weekend including a good old fashioned 4th of July BBQ lakeside, a guided gorge hike of our engagement spot, wine tasting, rehearsal dinner and a magical wedding day.

We wanted the entire weekend to feel like an intimate vacation with friends and family. The Inn On Columbia in Ithaca, NY served as a perfect basecamp for us. Rob, (an architect) and Madeline (a dream in the kitchen) have renovated a handful of properties into a mid-century oasis. Sean and I spent the entire week in a romantic gazebo turned honeymoon suite. We had a few days to prepare for our guests arrival and spent time collecting local treats for the welcome bags, including handmade chocolate bars by Luciennes chocolates, and customized splits of wines from Swedish Hill winery. The Finger Lakes is known for it’s great antiquing, so we did some local rummage shopping for old materials to use for hand painted signs, spending an entire unforgettable day out at the barn painting signs and excitedly anticipating the week to come. For our rehearsal dinner, Sean found Serendipity Catering Company through farm dinners they had been hosting in the area. As soon as we met with them we knew it was the right fit, and they introduced us to Silver Queen Farms where we hosted our event. Stephanie and her team helped us concept a menu for a whole hog roast, and created wild flower and burlap table decorations to complete our rustic theme. Alexandra Meseke was our official photographer of the rehearsal dinner and wedding day events. Not only did the pictures turn out beautifully, but Alexandra and her photographer husband Michael were a total joy to work with and instantly became a part of our extended family.

Bob and Suzanne at Suzannes Fine Dining were instrumental in bringing together our wedding day. They handled everything from setting up our ceremony site including a chuppah they already had on the property, to cocktail hour with h’ors deurves and drinks on the deck, dinner in the farmhouse dining room, and our party in the barn – including our very own bar in the horse stables (where my friend Annie Rocchio) helped us create a home-made photobooth, complete with a hand-strung wildflower backdrop created from our leftover rehearsal dinner flowers. My good friend and stylist, Morgan Blaul, handled my hair and makeup, and hair for the bridesmaids. Sean made the cork table-card stands using leftover wine corks we brought from home. Arenas Florist in Rochester helped us create our floral arrangements and decorations for the wedding, sourcing local wildflowers and keeping to our neutral color palette. Jennifer at Barb at Ceremonies and Events helped us create our timeline for the wedding day and ensured that everything ran smoothly the day of, and Astrograss from Brooklyn, New York provided live Bluegrass entertainment from the ceremony all the way through the barn shin-dig. As a way to give back to the area that gave us so much, we donated a portion of our wedding gifts to a local not-for-profit called Ithaca Children’s Garden, teaching kids the value of gardening and land preservation.

All in all, we were really lucky to have met so many wonderful people on this journey and to have a new place we can call home.

New York City Surprise Proposal from Amy Rizzuto Photography

You know those proposal stories that sort of leave you speechless?  Those stories that are so incredibly thoughtful + beautiful, it’s like a fairytale is literally coming to life in every last amazing moment?  This is one of those proposals.  A surprise journey to the Big Apple meets a gorgeous candle-lit backdrop meets two people who are so in love, it’s seriously bursting from every last mesmerizing second captured by Amy Rizzuto Photography.  See them all here in the full gallery.

From Amy RizzutoGet your tissues ready, because Mark and Kelly’s NYC surprise candlelight proposal is a tear jerker… in the best possible way! When Mark told Kelly to pack her bags for a surprise trip, she couldn’t wait! Once they reached the airport, Mark revealed that he and Kelly would be flying first class to New York City! This was just the beginning of an incredible fairytale weekend for this sweet couple from London. Check out their full story below for all the heartfelt details.

From Mark + Kelly… A warm breeze slipped through an open window, rustling softly through Kellys hair. Even though she was blindfolded, she could smell the richness of candles burning all around her. As her boyfriend of 6 1/2 years lead her into their NYC suite, a feeling of giddiness and anticipation completely overwhelmed her.

Mark couldn’t believe the moment was finally here! He placed Kelly in front of the beautiful scene he had so carefully planned, making his way over to the iPod dock. As music from his Saturday Night play list filled the room, Mark punched in a four digit code and pulled two items out of the safe. Excitement building, he finally walked over to Kelly and removed the blindfold.

The scene that filled Kelly’s eyes took her breath away. In front of her lay hundreds of candles, a table filled with her favorite flowers, and a single book created just for her. Kelly sat down and started to read. In her hands she held a love story, her love story. Tiny tears of happiness found their way to the corners of her eyes as she absorbed the heartfelt words Mark had written. Just before Kelly reached the final page, Mark took her by the hands and told her how much he loved her. A small gasp escaped Kelly’s lips as Mark got down on one knee and pulled out an engagement ring! As the man of her dreams asked her to marry him, Kelly threw her arms around him and said YES! Slipping on the ring he had hand-crafted just for her, Mark smiled. Softly kissing Kelly’s hand, he felt like the luckiest man in the world.

New York Anniversary Session from Emilia Jane Photography

I am starting off this darling post with a little quote from Emilia Jane Photography, because, well… truer words were never spoken.  “There’s just something magical about Badgley Mischka in Central Park.”  Yes, Emilia Jane, we wholeheartedly agree.  Especially when that Badgley Mischka is a glittery gold masterpiece worn by a gorgeous Mrs. celebrating her anniversary with her dashing husband in all kinds of swoon-worthy (+ love-filled) moments.  That’s magical and then some and you can see it all right here in the full gallery.

SMP New York Welcomes Our Advertisers + A Giveaway!

Rise and shine SMP New York! It’s time to start the weekend, and we can’t think of a better way to do just that than syncing you up with one of the newest members of our SMP New York family – Studio Webber. Trust me when I say, it will be time well spent.

[dotted]

We drool over gorgeous images day in and day out on SMP, so when we come across a photographer with as much talent as Michael Webber of Studio Webber, we know we have to share the love with all of you. Because photography is one of the most important decisions for your big day, and when you choose wisely, magic happens. Just take a peek for yourself…

About Studio Webber… I began my career by shooting a lot of fashion and beauty campaigns in New York. I made the switch over to weddings a few years ago. Weddings just made me a lot happier. I like making everyday people look extraordinary. My background in beauty photography allows for me to bring out something very special in my brides and I feel that makes me somewhat unique. I’m a romantic person inside. I get very involved with my couples and their story. I’ve actually been quite emotional myself a few times hearing the exchanging of the vows. Just gets me. I am a very social, easy going, young, fun, and energetic photographer. I love to work with natural light. I use natural light as a tool throughout the day. To add drama or warmth to the photographs. I do not like to work with a lot of flashes or other tools. I like for my photography to be unobtrusive. I don’t like to pose my couples, I like to create strong spaces for them to interact in and then I photograph those moments. It creates a much more alive image during
couples portrait time.

When all is said and done, I feel that I help to guide my couples along their wedding day. The wedding day can sometimes be stressful and I find comfort in knowing my ability to keep people at ease. When my couple is happy, the pictures reflect that, so I make it a secondary goal throughout the day to make sure that their experience is more than they had even dreamed of. That starts with me being on top of my game and always thinking 5 steps ahead. I am just a sucker for a romantic image. I’m a Disney kid at heart. I believe in the Fairytale. If I could draw it, I would, but I can’t, so instead, I find that beauty in photographing weddings.

I would love to offer a free engagement shoot in Manhattan for SMP readers, just let me know why you would love an engagement session with me below and we’ll pick a winner at random! Winner will be announced on November 8th.(value $499)

Manhattan Wedding at The Bowery Hotel from Jimena Roquero

People have many reasons for loving Manhattan. The style, the pace, the food – it’s all unlike anywhere else in the world. But my favorite thing about the city that never sleeps is the people. Because after pouring over hundreds (ok, probably thousands) of weddings in the City, I would say that’s where the style comes from. Take this wedding by Jimena Roquero at the Bowery Hotel for example. Perfectly elegant yet with its own fabulous flair, it’s filled with all the reasons Manhattan weddings are magical. See it all here.

From JimenaJennifer and Ryan’s elegant wedding took place in New York, where they are from and where they live. They picked The Cathedral Basilica of St. James in Brooklyn because they wanted to have some of their own neighborhood since the reception would be held at The Bowery Hotel, in Manhattan, later. The ceremony was a Jewish and Catholic ceremony. For the pictures, Jennifer and Ryan drove Jennifer’s dad’s vintage Mercedes Benz to Vinegar Hill, a very meaningful area for them since they got engaged at a very cozy restaurant that was also incorporated in the pictures.
