Classic NYC Engagement Session

New York is magic and about as perfect as you can get for an engagement backdrop. For this couple, who has a love of fashion and this magical city that they call home, it proved to be a winning combo. One decorated with a pretty spring dress, the steps of the iconic New York Public Library and a few kisses all captured by Robert And Kathleen Photographers. See even more right here.

From Elena, the Bride… Erick and I really didn’t know what to expect for our engagement session but we knew we wanted it to show our personalities. We choose a few locations which we love and knew would come out beautiful in pictures. We instantly clicked with our photographers and felt so comfortable. Our photo shoot lasted a few hours and we went from Battery Park then to Fifth Avenue and took amazing pictures by the New York Public Library and ended in downtown Soho area.

We wanted a very natural, photojournalistic and romantic story and our photographers couldn’t have done a better job. When I was deciding on what to wear I wanted it to fit my personalty. I wanted to have a feminine, girlie, airy, fresh very Audrey Hepburn look. I wore a floral print Monique Lhuillier dress with Valentino shoes, Hermes Bangle and Van Cleef necklace. Working in fashion ( Ralph Lauren Corporation) I realize the importance of picking the right outfit for special occasions. You have to make sure color fit and style will come out well in pictures.

Erick wore a Canali Jacket, Billy Reid pants, Paul Smith shirt, Paul Smith shoes and Paul Smith socks ( I guess you can tell who his favorite designer is !! ), Tiffany cuff links and Jaeger Lecoultre watch. Erick is such a perfectionist when it comes to making decisions. He is so detailed oriented and won’t settle for less. He is such a thoughtful, loving and kind hearted man. I truly found my other half, best friend and soul mate-Erick completes me in ever single way.

The engagement session was so important to us because were able to connect with our photographers before the wedding day. We knew what to expect for our wedding day and our photographers got to know us and our personalities, and knew what we wanted out of our pictures and our style, likes and dislikes. After the wedding is over the most important thing you have to help you relive your fair tale day are your pictures and video so picking our photographer was a huge part of the planning process – Erick and I were very pleased with our choice…we couldn’t be happier.

Glamorous Hamptons Party

A gathering of some of the Hamptons’ most talented vendors all set against the breathtaking backdrop better known as the Wölffer Estate: this, my loves, is one seriously awesome party.  It’s the gorgeous stylings of Sofia Crokos and Roy Braeger with yummy treats from Sonnier & Castle and one stunning image after another from Belathee Photography.  See them all here.

From Belathee Photography… On July 19th, the Hamptons was treated to a special evening celebrating the elite talent that makes events on the East End so legendary. The most in-demand local vendors in event design, along with taste-making leaders in interior design, real estate, restaurateurs, and the social scene, gathered at Wölffer Estate Vineyard to welcome the newest talent to make a permanent home out east, event planner Sofia Crokos. In addition, a select group of vendors, including Sofia, were asked to personally shape the evening’s experience.  Creating “An Evening Of Visual Splendor,” invitations hinted at the celebration to come with shimmering summer tones and a playful circular design, courtesy of Red Bliss Design. Wölffer Estate was transformed into an enchantingly elegant space, where Sofia, along with event designer Roy Braeger played up the vineyard’s natural charm with billowing flags, studded lights, and vibrant tones of turquoise with glittering gold accents. Luminous Designs provided a lighting display that conjured a reflection of the starry night sky. Caterer Sonnier & Castle designed a colorfully seasonal menu from ingredients sourced from local farms. The entertainment, designed by Elan Artists, featured a lively French Jazz ensemble, complete with dancers. Guests toasted the night with a selection of wines from Wölffer Estate, along with custom cocktails from Pavan Liqueur and Avion’s Espresso Tequilla. Belathee Photography captured the evening’s most memorable moments.

From Simply Bloom PhotographySarah and Greg’s Manhattan wedding took place in a hidden gem venue: 632 on Hudson. The bride was so demure in her beauty and demeanor but her style and taste shined through every detail of the wedding. The devoted groom looked at peace once he was next to his bride. Annie Shon did an incredible job planning such a tasteful Art Deco themed wedding in a venue that already hosted so many decor details. The bold ruby flowers dispersed around the venue and adorning the altar fit perfectly with such an ornate space. Some of our favorite details from the wedding were: the bare wedding cake, the Bride’s BHLDN necklace and the professional calligraphy on mirrors throughout the venue.

Upper West Side Engagement Shoot

Maybe it’s because we’re the Sex and the City generation, but every single one of us ladies at the SMP offices is crazy for everything Manhattan, so this Upper West Side engagement session from Gabe Aceves has been the topic of conversation all day. It’s chic, it’s romantic, and it’s the prettiest. And it’s all right here.

From the bride to be… Brett and I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It’s where all of our first dates took place, where we became adults, where we fell in love, and where Brett proposed! When brainstorming for our engagement session, we really wanted it to be reflective of us as a couple and couldn’t think of a better location than our very own neighborhood.

We began shooting right on our block and on the nearby brownstone lined streets, and eventually worked our way through Central Park to Sheep’s Meadow, the location of our first date and where Brett proposed!

Gabe Aceves did such an incredible job capturing our love, giggles, and beautiful neighborhood in the fall.

Natural Vineyard Wedding With Sunflowers

I carried a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers on my wedding day, so I’m a total sucker for a beautiful floral design centered around the happy bloom. Ulysses Photography captured a day perfectly fitting of the sunflower, and can I just give you a little spoiler alert? It’s beautiful.

From the beautiful bride… We started our planning knowing we wanted a September wedding, but had few other concrete ideas. We hoped to achieve the right balance we felt we had found in my engagement ring (a diamond wedding band): somewhat different yet traditional, as well as down-to-earth but beautiful. Our vision was a family-oriented, natural, seasonal, sustainable and local event A love for the Hudson Valley and a familiarity with their former owner brought us to Benmarl Winery. We knew Benmarl was the perfect venue for us from our first steps on their property. The ceremony is set up on a hill overlooking the valley that leads to the Hudson River and the reception is held under a nearby tent. There are sheep and chickens wandering through their grape vines. Their property allowed us to decorate minimally and yet achieve a gorgeous setting.

Pamela’s Traveling Feast catered and she saw our vision immediately. Sourcing much of her personalized menu locally, serving paired Benmarl wines with the appetizers, offering a local brewery’s beer, allowing us to serve family-style food, and baking seasonal pies in lieu of a wedding cake were some of the many ways she helped bring our vision to life. Along with Pamela, all of our vendors were local. Their familiarity with each other and the venue as well as their expertise in each of their fields paid off in spades. Our florist, Heather at A Night in Bloom, was warm and encouraging, sourced the most gorgeous flowers, and arranged the site perfectly. She also gave us the most amazing gift of donating our centerpieces after the wedding to local charities so they could bring joy to many more people. DJ Danielle, gave us useful advice, played music for our ceremony and kept the dance floor full all night. Our photographers, Ulysses and Jenni from Ulysses Photography, kept us smiling, laughing and comfortable. They captured the real emotion in the day as well as the most amazing moments that we would have missed without them. They were in all the right places at the right time.

We added a few personal touches (with much inspiration from Pinterest and shopping on Etsy) like a candle burning in the memory of loved ones lost, a basket full of pashminas for chilly guests, and handwritten escort cards stained with wine and displayed in vintage window shutters. We sent guests home with pumpkin-scented soy candle favors. With mother nature’s help and all of our favorite people, our wedding came to life in the most amazing way possible- as a beautiful reflection of us.

From the bride… Our shindig went down on April 20, 2013 at Alder Manor, a crumbling-but-gorgeous manor home built in 1912 perched on a hill overlooking the Hudson River in Yonkers, New York. My entire vision for our wedding was sparked by the venue … I used to be an editor at Brides New York magazine, which is where I first came across Alder Manor and completely fell in love with its Downton Abbey-meets Grey Gardens-meets Great Gatsby glamour… the crumbling gardens, the wood paneled ballroom, the richly detailed library. Everything from my dress to the decor sprang from the inspiration the venue provided. We wanted everything to feel authentic to the mansion’s heyday. Our amazing vendors worked together to bring my vision to life—it turned out more beautifully than I could have ever dreamed!

My husband and I are originally from the Bay Area, but have lived in New York for several years— me for almost 13 and him for almost six. So our friends and family traveled from near and far to attend, some from as far away as Japan and England. While the wedding was fancy we didn’t want it to feel stuffy, so there were a lot of fun details woven throughout the day. As guests arrived at the ceremony, they were greeted with glasses of champagne. Pashminas were draped over the backs of chairs for guests to take if they got cold. Our ceremony was short & sweet, officiated by a longtime friend of my family’s who created a personal ceremony, and we wrote our own vows. A live jazz trio played for the ceremony and cocktail hour, and we used songs during the ceremony that had personal meaning to us, like “Georgia on My Mind” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.” Immediately following the ceremony, we hosted a champagne toast and gave a speech thanking our guests and families for being there. Each champagne glass had a cocktail stirrer that doubled as an escort card — my sister and I made them all ourselves using wooden dowels, hot glue, and pieces of gold Christmas garlands. I downloaded fonts to match our invites from Smock Paper to create the tags.

I also semi-crafted our ring holder, using a vintage compact, and sewing navy velvet inside. My sister held on to the compact, but our ring bearer and flower girl were our dogs—our min pin, Alfie, and our pomeranian, Nico. Alfie tried to make a run for it as Jon’s cousin was walking them down the aisle, but she swiftly grabbed him!

My bracelet was vintage—a gift from Jonathan—and my earrings were my something borrowed from my sister.

We had a big wedding party—21 people! But they all were so amazing. My bridesmaids all chose their own dresses, and they did a fantastic job—they all looked so beautiful. Dinner was served across the manor’s ballroom and library, which are adjoining. Sides were served family style, and the entrees were served via French service, so everyone could try a little bit of each option. Everyone had a blast on the dance floor, our DJ totally killed it. We had two disco balls going just for fun. My favorite part was the confetti toss during “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey—it was the song that was playing when Jon and I first kissed. Everyone went wild as the gold confetti cannons went off.

It was such a magical evening and I couldn’t have done it without my amazing vendor team.

Pastel Wedding at The Old Field Club

If you ask me, this couple deserves some kind of serious trophy. Because not only did these two designers DIY the heck out of their seaside wedding, they did it SO well it looks 100% by the pros. From the decor to the website and every little paper good in between, this my dears, is a true labor of love. Miss Laura Ivanova was on-hand to document the day, and it’s all waiting for you here!

From the Bride… It was 9/29/2013, a memorable day for me and Ryan. We had been together for 3 years, and we were and still are deeply in love. The goal in our relationship is to be together, grow together, and love each other unconditionally – as difficult as it sounds, it is our ultimate wish. Therefore, we found it important to convey this message by designing, managing, and executing our wedding solely by ourselves.

We both are designers and are extremely particular about the details of our wedding. We wanted to do everything right and on our own – from the website, engagement photos, invitation, favors, guest signature tree, seating board, dessert table, boards, signages, painting, décor, props, theme colors, to the dog leash for our special guest. It was all DIY. Not to mention, Ryan and I spent 4 months learning how to sing and dance.

We spent countless hours for 9 months shopping in thrift shops, craft stores, etc. for raw material, or simply for inspiration. We didn’t want to just have any kind of wedding. We put a lot of thought and personal style into it. We wanted a wedding that would be remarkable, one that would draw us even closer together.

Our wedding: the venue is in The Old Field Club, East Setauket, Long Island. We visited many venues. We picked this one because of its lofted ceiling and floor to ceiling windows all around the dining area. This gave me a sense of open space. We planned to have our wedding in the daytime, therefore sufficient natural sunlight was one of our criteria. We also liked that the venue is clean, airy, and soft which matched well to the theme of my wedding, and also to my personality. Most importantly, the venue is not overly decorative which left us room to decorate.

The style of our wedding was Rustic Elegant. The theme color was coral pink. Our favorite décor was the door signage which is hand painted by Ryan with acrylic paint. The vanity chest filled with flowers and our balloon photo gallery gave a warm welcome to our guests. We got married under a clear blue sky, blessed with warm, beautiful weather. The highlight of our wedding was Ryan singing “Grow Old With You” with his ukulele while I walked down the aisle in the outdoor ceremony.

Our favorite part of the art projects in this wedding was the wedding invitation and favors. In the invitation, Ryan did the graphic design part, while I created the envelope idea and machine-sewn opening of a regular brown paper bag. In the favors, as a Christian, I wanted to share God’s words to inspire all our guests such that they would leave with a positive attitude. Therefore, I created a chocolate bar wrap with ten impactful bible verses. For signage, we picked up a pallet from the trash, recycled it, painted it with chalkboard paint, and created a repurposed wedding sign. Each of our table numbers were hand painted as well.

Finding the perfect dress: my ceremony and reception dress is by Pronovias. I found it hard to choose a dress as I tried on many different ones. While I thought many of the wedding dresses were very nice, picking one that speaks to you, touches your soul, and tells people who you are was certainly my main criteria. My dress is very simple, sweet, and elegant. Ryan had chosen a blue J. Lindberg suit, therefore, I had my mom sew on a pink sash to match the color scheme. I also chose a J. Crew dress to wear before the ceremony to take photos.

Working with the vendors: our florist, dessert table caterer, and photographers are the most amazing people I ever worked with. They are all very talented and professional. Working with them was a great experience. I’d like to extend a special thank you to my florist who helped me execute the decoration with zero worries.

As I mentioned above, teamwork is what’s important to our wedding. This wedding definitely is a prelude to our lifetime journey.

Rhinecliff Hotel Hudson Valley Wedding

This wedding is pure romance.  That type of romance that you only find in classic novels (shout out to Jane Austen) and black and white films playing on tv on a rainy Sunday.  You know what I am talking about… it’s the kind of day that just bursts at the seams with awesome and features beautiful blooms from Catskill Flower Shop and sooo much pretty from Amy Rae Photography.  See it all here.

From Amy Rae Photography… I first met these two at a local pub over a yummy pumpkin brew. They shared with me their love for music. Jaclyn works for VH1 Save the Music and Bryan is a conductor with the New Jersey Youth Symphony. They have a passion for love and life and are not afraid to have a good time. Even if that means acting a little goofy and busting out a jig! I love them for this!

Their wedding was set above the Hudson river in Rhinebeck, NY at the Rhinecliff Hotel under a beautiful blue sky. I have never witnessed so much happiness as there was a permanent smile on everyone’s face. What an exciting day filled with love and laughter.

The couple, along with their family, got ready for the day at the inn. Jaclyn wore an Enzoani dress, while Bryan had a custom tailored suit by Decarlos Bespoke. The bouquet was exquisite with my favorite white anemone flowers, designed by Catskill Flower Shop. Their first look was set on the hotel balcony with family close by to witness their first moments together on their wedding day.

The ceremony was held in the small garden overlooking the Hudson river valley. Pashminas were available for guests on their chairs and the aisle was lined with beautiful rose arrangements. Bryan wrote a special music piece for Jaclyn that was played as a surprise for her during the ceremony.

Guests were asked to make a wish for the newly married couple and add it to their wishing tree which they would plant later to watch grow over the years. Jaclyn and Bryan stepped away for a quiet moment after the ceremony while guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the garden. The reception followed inside where everyone enjoyed dinner, a scalloped-lace cake by Calico Bakery, and a view of the perfect sunset. Jaclyn and Bryan really wanted photos on the train bridge while the sun was setting. It was the perfect ending to their day.

New York Athletic Club Wedding

Every time I see a New York City wedding, my heart beats a little faster. My swooning levels go through the roof and I wish myself away to Big Apple bliss. And this morning? Let’s just say I’m experiencing all of the above. With beautiful planning on part of Ever Swoon and pretty snaps a la Kelsey Combe, the gallery is a must, and don’t forget to hit “play” on Deneemotion Boutique’s film below.

From the Bride… When people asked me as a child what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always answered ‘a bride.’ Not the fairytale aspects of a bride (a big, white puffy dress was never something I coveted)… I never really bought into the idea of a Prince Charming, or being saved on a white horse. For me, it was the ideal of it, the notion of what it meant – to find the person, fall in love, be loved and to love in that head over heels kind of way. Turns out, I found ‘the’ person back in the third grade in our hometown on Long Island (I just didn’t know it until after some years spent in New York City after college). He very quickly left all my ideas of love in the dust, as I found out the real thing was way better than anything I dreamed up in my head.

This love that we shared became the very foundation for what we wanted to express on our wedding day. However, him being a part owner in a family business and the guy who was voted ‘friendliest’ in high school, we quickly realized that a smaller wedding of family and close friends was not a possibility. So, we set out on our journey to create the most intimate, large wedding possible.

The upper east side of Manhattan has been our home, both single and as a couple. As an avid runner, I joined him on many runs around the Reservoir Loop in Central Park. When he asked me to marry him on a dreary December morning on that same running path, we knew somehow the Park, the upper east side and New York City would be the stars of our day.

I must just touch on the dress, designed by Jenny Packham. I had ripped a picture of it out of a magazine where a celebrity was wearing it in pink. I kept the picture for years in a cigar box on a coffee table in my small, studio apartment. When I was getting ready to head down to Florida to see my family that Christmas, I stuffed the picture in my handbag in the hopes I may find something like it. The day after Christmas, I set out with my mother, aunt, grandmother, and great aunt (both in their 90s) to the Boca Raton Bridal shop. ‘The’ dress, in cream, ‘just came in’.

Everything seemed to flow from there. Through the generosity of his father, we decided upon the historic New York Athletic Club, located on Central Park South with sweeping views of the entire Park. My groom-to-be suggested our wedding invitation incorporate the cherry blossom trees that canopy over the Bridle Path where we got engaged. And last but certainly not least, having our wedding mass at our beloved parish, the stunning Church of Saint Ignatius Loyola, located on Park Avenue and 83rd Street. It would be a sophisticated, un-stuffy, old New York- style wedding with personal touches that made it feel like ‘us’ with the goal of bringing a rather large crowd into the smaller, intimate world of our love, family and friends.

A day and evening filled with happy tears, heartfelt speeches and relentless dancing, it was so much more than anything we could have imagined – and like everything else since falling in love, we realized reality was way better than anything we had dreamed of in our heads.

Brooklyn Botanical Garden Wedding at the Palm House

New favorite trend alert: the floral necklace. I am obsessed and the prettiness doesn’t even stop there. Sprout Home hit the ball out of the floral park with this botanical beauty and it was all captured to perfection by Sara of Ava Weddings Fine Art Photography. This gallery is simply inspiration overload in the best possible way, and there is so much more waiting for you right here.

From Sara Harper-Hudson Of Ava Weddings Fine Art PhotographyI’m pleased to bring you this gorgeous, spring/summer wedding featuring fresh and brilliant hues of coral, pink, and green amidst a bounty of botanic beauty and floral accents. The bride Cody and her groom, Joe, took their vows under a romantic willow tree in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. She wore a stunning and completely unique floral necklace made of real flowers. Her bouquet, complete with real figs and raspberries, was also quite gorgeous & unique! Following their first kiss, the couple led a charming New Orleans style recessional back to the reception location, a gorgeous greenhouse turned venue called the Palm House.; as they walked their band followed on foot, still playing jazz music while their guests followed shortly behind.

According to the bride, Cody, “Like most couples, the vision for our big day really started coming together once we settled on our venue, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. We wanted the day to be both elegant and relaxed, so we chose details that would give the whole event the look and feel of a beautiful garden party. With that in mind, we wanted flowers to be used throughout, but in fun and unexpected ways, including my bold, colorful flower necklace (that I absolutely loved wearing!), seed packets used as seating cards, and edible flowers in our signature cocktails!”

Pink + Gold New York Botanical Gardens Wedding

There’s something about a beautiful wedding that takes me away from my desk and into the party. I can almost hear the laughter, smell the cake, feel the love through Elisabeth Millay’s photos, and I have zero complaints about my midday jaunt to NYC because this wedding? This wedding is pink perfection.

Romantic

From the stunning bride… Evan and I met 10 years ago as counselors at a summer camp. Early in our relationship we knew that we would get married one day but when it came time to choosing a venue we had a hard time finding our match. However, from the moment we laid eyes on the quaint and intimate Lillian and Amy Goldman Stone Mill at the New York Botanical Gardens we knew we had found the perfect location to say, “I do”. The historic stone building and Bronx river provided a stunning backdrop for our family and friends to share and celebrate the happiest and most wonderful day in our lives.

Our day was perfect and all of the little details that I had agonized over and second guessed myself on for a year and a half finally came together before my eyes. From the dozens of absurd craft projects I assigned to my matron of honor (including making covered buttons for the back of my dress when the seamstress told me it would be impossible) to the invitations, programs and menus I designed myself to the herbs that Evan grew from seedlings for the escort cards to the table numbers a co-worker hand cut from wood and glittered for us to the countless other favors and contributions — this wedding was a true labor of love.

We could not have asked for a more special day — everyone we hired was so amazing, accommodating and genuinely made us feel like royalty. I am gluten intolerant and our venue coordinator, Stephanie, helped us put together a menu that was mostly gluten free and she even had a mini gluten free wedding cake created just for me so I wouldn’t miss out during our cake cutting! Our wedding felt like a dream and if I didn’t have photos to prove it actually happened, I’d swear I had made it up!

Ironically, after all the intricate planning and DIY-ing my favorite memories of the day were the quiet moments I shared with my closest friends and family and of course the hours we all spent dancing the night away!

New York City Loft Wedding

Is it just me or are rooftop ceremonies the coolest way ever to say “I do”?  Seriously chic, totally breathtaking and all kinds of awesome, they’re the sort of weddings that take a few steps beyond pretty. And when that crazy gorgeousness is paired with an urban meets rustic loft party?  It’s beyond amazing. See it all captured by Angela Cappetta in the full gallery.

From Angela Cappetta… Laura and Pete met on a trans continental flight from Burbank to New York. He was instantly smitten, and who could blame him. Not only is his bride a top model in NYC, but her heart is as big as her legs are long. In true jet setting fashion, on their wedding day, they landed at Gary’s Loft for a cosmopolitan fete next to the Empire State Building.

Their entire wedding had a global vision, from the Geisha pouring sake, to the champagne set up in a vintage claw foot bathtub, to midnight pizzas delivered from Otto, their favorite restaurant, to the fresh herb favors in clay pots, this wedding sported an international flair as effortlessly cool this bride + groom.

During the entire wedding Pete’s Grandma Rose stood watch. She who owned a bridal shop for 30 years, her husband, a miliner’s supply store, both in the garment district, the latter from where the fabric for Laura’s veil came–the last bolt in the shop before it closed. Grandma Rose took it upon herself to oversee the dress’ intricate fittings to hug Laura’s gazelle like frame, no small task. At the wedding, Grandma Rose beamed at Laura, a vision in her charmeuse gown, and wisely nodded “my seamstress did a nice job.”

And it was good.

From the Bride…Mike and I always knew that we wanted a non-traditional wedding. Our goal was to have a big party and what other location is better for a big party than New York City. When we began to look for venues, we knew we found the perfect spot when we visited Studio 450 because of the amazing views of the City it offered as well as a blank canvas which let us be creative.

Although our wedding was in November, we wanted to avoid the “fall” look. We initially liked the idea of using metallic colors but realized we needed a pop of color in that beautiful bright white space. With the help of our event designer, we decided on silver and a deep red. Since we decided not to do a formal sit down dinner, our event designer filled the room with lounge furniture, all different sized tables, a custom built mahogany bar and stools. Our guests grazed on food all night from passed hor d’ourves to stations with small plates to a team of chefs frying up fresh donut holes.

We were not too strict with our colors. I chose to have my bridesmaids pick any little black dress they liked and wear fun gold glittery shoes. By the time my wedding rolled around, we had all been in a number of weddings with a number of bridesmaid dresses so I wanted to make it as easy as possible for them.

While we can’t pick out just one thing that sticks out the most about the most memorable and most fun day of our lives, the opportunity to take advantage of the views on top of the Highline for wedding pictures and having passers-by and tourists congratulating us and wishing us the best was an awesome moment. As we were capping off the pictures, we even had a group of kids jump in and take a few shots with the wedding party.

From Firefly Events… Youyou and Rahul were an absolute joy to work with from start to finish! Helping our clients to achieve their wedding hopes and dreams is always the name of the game in our business, and we couldn’t wait to get started on crafting a spring soiree that would capture both the love and admiration that Youyou + Rahul had for each other, and their fun and adventurous spirit.

The wedding and reception were held at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, just an hour out of NYC, in lush Hudson Valley. Youyou was very inspired by the ethereal world of Lord of the Rings and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and wanted the wedding to have a similar feel. The tone was set from the start with this dreamy, embellished wedding dress from Jenny Packham.

The magical Sunken Garden provided the perfect backdrop for the ceremony, performed by one of the couples best friends! Bridget from Violet and Verde created this spectacular woven branch altar piece, adorned with delicate spring blooms in white and cream for Youyou and Rahul to stand under as they exchanged vows. After the ceremony, guests were led down a tree lined path to the Italian Pavilion for cocktails and…Video Games! This one was on Rahul’s wishlist for the big day, and we loved putting together this fun arcade tent for him. It was one of the biggest hits of the night.

We continued the magical garden feel throughout the evening with farm tables topped with florals in hues of violet, blue, and green. Ornate lanterns brought some extra sparkle while guests enjoyed their dinner and toasted the happy couple. With spirits high, Youyou and Rahul led the whole crowd in one of the most serious dance parties we’ve ever seen! At the end of the night, it felt almost criminal to cut into the amazing cake created by Elizabeth Hodes, but it turned out to taste as good as it looked. We were happy to have extra slices to send home with everyone!

From Casey Fatchett Photography… In my 13 years photographing weddings, it is rare to come across a couple with such a vast amount of details and a clear style for their wedding without help from the a designer or planner. Not only did they manage to coordinate all of this but also created a number of DIY elements – wooden stained candlesticks, heat embossing ombre escort cards and dinner plate cards (before the calligraphy was added), table number signs, and cocktail signs. On top of that, they created personal gifts for their friends and family (custom ring dishes for the bridesmaids, custom cufflinks – including “father of the bride/groom” cufflinks for the dads – Emily also had a handkerchief embroidered for her dad). The amount of personal attention and love involved in all of aspects of the wedding was extremely apparent to anyone there.

From Rosehip Floral… I loved working with Emily and John because they both had such lovely ideas about the décor and flowers. It was quite fun to blend their two styles and make flower arrangements that would guarantee an impact and stand on their own, in the large warehouse space.

Working with a client who wants to source some of their own décor helps me further understand their aesthetic and who they are as a couple. It is also enjoyable to see what they come up with and how to integrate their personal touches. Emily and her family did a spectacular job collecting most of the unique vases used at the wedding, and I was thrilled to be able to make some gorgeous arrangements to fill them.

From the Bride… John and I wanted to get married in New York because it is the city that brought us together. We met through a chance encounter on a street corner, and three years to the day, John proposed while on the very same spot where we met.

We chose to get married at the Liberty Warehouse so the ceremony would overlook the Statue of Liberty and New York harbor at sunset. With an August wedding date, we expected a hot, muggy day – and we would have been OK with that. Instead, we had perfect weather – not too hot or cold – and a postcard-worthy sunset, painted with spectacular bright and vivid shades of pink, orange, blue and yellow.

A very special moment happened during the ceremony, when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a little baby duck playing in the water just steps away from our chuppah. It looked so happy and content. I remember thinking of how happy and I content I was, too, to be marrying John.

Our vision for the wedding was to create an enchanting, magical night in celebration of love, while also creating a very personal experience for our friends and loved ones by reflecting our life together in New York.

I lovingly drowned myself in the creative details. Drawing inspiration from the venue’s rustic wooden columns, we decorated the tables and windowsills with hundreds of wooden candlesticks (which my dad and I stained together in my parents’ backyard), along with custom-painted signage, and small dark wood blocks which we used to hold the escort cards.

As our wedding took place on the water, I used an ombre concept of blue and greens – our wedding colors – to evoke an ocean feel throughout the wedding. These colors were incorporated in the flower vases and vessels, custom-made table runners, and unique place cards. The handwritten calligraphy by Marcardin Calligraphy, in a beautiful white Peoni font, coupled with the heat-embossed bride and groom symbols I added to the cards, added a whimsical touch.

Pola at Rosehip Floral designed flower arrangements that exceeded my dreams and expectations. We had discussed creating “an explosion of flowers” at every turn of the wedding, which is exactly what Rosehip Floral achieved, with over 200 unique arrangements in shades of pastel pink, peach, ivory and accents of blue flowers. The flowers were placed atop pale mint green runners and into vases of various shades of blue, green and grey stone. Pola and I collaborated on the tablescape design, and I was able to collect dozens of the vases and containers, which proved to be especially fun for my mom and I.

The resulting floral concept was intended to strike a balance between my playful, whimsical style and John’s classic and elegant taste. The incredible globe lighting strung up atop the long banquet tables, which were dripping in candles, made us feel as though we had stepped right into a lovely secret garden hidden in a Brooklyn factory warehouse.

John and I enjoyed designing the cake together. We both wanted a memorable and unique cake. We chose pistachio for the inside because we couldn’t stop thinking about it after the tasting at Cake Ambiance. For the cake topper, we worked with a papercut silhouette artist in the Ukraine who was so excited to make their first cake topper.

I will never forget walking through the room during dinner, with John by my side, and looking over lush tables, the glowing room, and seeing all the smiling and loving faces.

Everything about our wedding came together like a dream, and we are so grateful. We will treasure the photos and video because they capture the happiness that surrounded us at the wedding – our beaming parents, dedicated bridal party, elated family and friends, and love for each other.

Iconic New York City Engagement Session

In my mind, there is nothing better than a bottle of bubbly with the love of your life on a NYC rooftop. Especially if the dog comes along. So Robert & Kathleen obviously blew my mind a little bit with this iconic Manhattan engagement session. Don’t just take my word for it though, make time for the gallery to see just how beautiful an engagement sesh in the Big Apple can be!

From the bride to be… We met in college at the University of Connecticut, but it wasn’t until years later when we both moved to New York City that we’d run into each other at an alumni happy hour and see each other in a new light. We quickly realized we shared the same passions in life: career driven, family obsessed and always up for hosting a good party. A casual drink, led to a memorable date, and year after year of summers any place nautical and winters anywhere skiing, we knew there was no looking back.

His proposal was a perfect example of everything our relationship stood for. There was dinner, there was champagne, there was family, and there was Tate – our beloved puggle – with the ring secured around his collar. It was the most perfect night I could have ever imagined. …and so it started, the series of “Best Days Ever.”

Our engagement party and then our engagement shoot to follow were also part of those “Best Days Ever.” Since we’re getting married back in Connecticut, we knew we wanted to do our engagement shoot in New York, the place that ultimately brought us together. I envisioned a very iconic New York City engagement shoot that emphasized all we love about the city. We chose spots around Manhattan that all have a strong meaning to us as a couple. Grand Central is not only one of the most gorgeous historical landmarks in NYC, but also a place we very frequently pass through for weekend visits to our families. We also wanted to incorporate our apartment, since it’s our favorite of all the places we’ve lived, it’s where Pat proposed, and it has the most breathtaking panoramic views of the NYC skyline. Lastly, we knew we had to include Tate, since he’s such an important part of our family, and there’s nothing like bringing a city dog to central park in the fall to put him in his element. Robert and Kathleen really made this shoot so special for us and we couldn’t be more thrilled that they’ll be capturing our wedding!

I love you, Patrick, with all my heart, and couldn’t be more excited to become your wife next summer!

From the planner… Amy and Mike were married in a beautiful manicured garden, with majestic conifers and a fountain as their ceremony backdrop. We had been worried about rain the week leading up to the wedding, but that morning the clouds cleared and it could not have been more perfect for their summer wedding.

The flower girls and ring bearer were so adorable. The ring bearer held a chalkboard sign “Cousin Mike Here Comes Your Girl.” Amy walked down the aisle to “Just Breathe” by Eddie Vedder, their first dance was to “Number 41” by Dave Matthews, and cake cutting to “Sweet Disposition” by Temper Trap. Their love of music and similar artists was one of the reasons that brought them so close together. For their save the dates, we did concert tickets for their wedding date.

Amy loved pink, and incorporated that in her elegant calla lily bouquet, the bridesmaid dresses, and pale pink mokara orchids in the centerpieces. We had a mix of tall and low arrangements with phalaenopsis, dendrobium and mokara orchids on mirrored bases which reflected the candlelight so romantically. I especially loved the escort arrangement on a big wooden table covered with pillar candles, rose petals, and rows of square mirrors, on which we placed the escort cards.

For their after party, we setup white lounge furniture out on the terrace and transitioned from the Jeff Lubin Band to a DJ, with lots of tasty late night treats like mini sliders, french fries and mini ice cream cones. It was a fun end to a wonderful celebration for a very sweet couple, so madly in love.

From the Bride… The wedding theme was Victorian inspired; the colors were blush, ivory and gold. I always loved the 1800’s era with Queen Victoria, lace, pearls and the lovely tea parties. Queen Victoria was the first women to actually wear the “white dress” at her own wedding. Prior to Victoria, women’s wedding dresses were made in the fashionable colors of their day. I purchased my wedding dress from Kleinfield bridal a year before my wedding; it was a Jim Hljem Ivory lace trumpet dress. The Groom’s suit was custom made from a store in Huntington village called Marshs. Alain wanted something he could where after the wedding as well.

My wedding ceremony and reception was held at the Westbury Manor. I choose Westbury Manor because I love the Victorian era setting, it had uniqueness, character, peacocks roamed the outside grounds, and old age ambiance rolled into one. Flowers were also a very important aspect, my florist Black Dahlia was a breath of fresh air. She was very attentive and paid close attention to all the little details I added. I am a very specific bride; I handpicked each flower to show a garden Victorian appearance still within the wedding colors. I love for flowers to have great texture, a vintage look and greens, which are the reasons why I chose dusty millers, stock, and garden roses for the center pieces and bouquets.

Since Alain and I were on a budget, we agreed DIY projects were the way to cut costs. We wanted our wedding to be dreamy and Victorian, but we didn’t have the money to pay for a “platinum wedding” so I became a DIY bride completely. I was never crafty until I began my wedding planning process. Everything from the save the dates, invitations, seating charts, centerpieces, petal cones, dinner menus, table numbers, dessert table décor, ceremony décor, wedding theme and design, small knick knacks i.e. soy candle teacups was completed by me.

The wedding began promptly at 8 o’clock during twilight; it was an outside ceremony with 130 guests. The ceremony took place in the grassy Knoll area of Westbury Manor. I was escorted down the aisle by my father, the song I choose was “Look after you” by The Fray. My mom passed away when I was a little girl so I choose to “save a seat for her”. The outside décor was simple and clean. Lanterns were placed down the aisle; every other chair had a moss cone filled with garden flowers. The moss cones were one of many DIY projects I completed. My florist Black Dahlia filled the moss cones with flowers. Peacocks roamed the garden, as the ceremony began. On each chair at the ceremony, petal cones were hung, so that Alain and I can be showered with petals as we walked down the aisle. The petal cones were a DIY project made from vintage music paper which I purchased from etsy. On the Welcome table vintage gloves, pearls, and teacups adorned the area, cry packs were made for my guest’s tears of joy. My love for tea parties was another reason why I loved the Victorian era.

For reception I made a portion of my centerpieces. I wrapped cylinder vases of two different sizes in ivory lace. I also used glass votives, wrapped them in lace and placed a Victorian cameo on the votives. Six out of ten tables had medium gold candelabras which were purchased from Opulent treasures. Four out of ten tables had low floral centerpieces. The laced glass cylinders, and tall blush tapered candles on each table helped to complete the Victorian inspired tablescape.

My love for all things Victorian lead me to love the Victorian cameo’s, which I wear on a daily basis, I also placed one on my cake. I also love vintage skeleton keys. I used vintage skeleton keys as a object for the escort cards.

To embrace my Nigerian background Alain and I changed into my Nigerian attire in the middle of the reception.

My wedding day was perfect; it surpassed my expectations. It was great to see every little detail that I handpicked come to life to make such an eventful day. My most memorable moment was when Alain and I, surprised our guest with the Harlem shake after our first dance.

Traditional Westchester Wedding at the Ritz Carlton

These two sweeties?  They’re amazing.  The kind of amazing that rushes off to Puerto Rico to tie the knot, elopement-style, then returns home to celebrate a year later with their awesome friends and family.  And not just any celebration: a totally gorgeous, totally breathtaking ballroom affair complete with vibrant blooms and a gallery of pretty captured by B Hull Photography.  See it all here.

From B Hull Photography Anna & Jake had attended the same college and had several mutual friends in common, but it wasn’t until that summer class of 2006 when he stole her heart. They have been inseparable ever since, they eloped to Puerto Rico in 2012, but didn’t let the magic end there. They planned a beautiful ceremony and reception to celebrate with friends and family in the States as well a year after.

DIY Formal Wedding at Rufflands Farm

First of all, I will never get over this Kathryn Conover Couture custom gown. But even beyond that dream, this wedding shocked me when I realized it was DIY. It’s so stinking beautiful, and obviously so, captured by Divine Light Photography, that I’ve been sitting here quite honestly in awe for far longer than I’d like to admit.

From the stunning bride… Our Hudson Valley outdoor DIY wedding was simply perfect. It rained two hours before the ceremony and poured as soon as we started dancing the night away in the barn, but the dramatic clouds made for the perfect backdrop to our ceremony, which was lead by the brides cousin. We planned our wedding completely on our own, created all the paper products (save the dates, invitations, name cards, ceremony cards). Family members all chipped in to make the day perfect. The brides mother foraged for local flowers and made crowns for the flower girls, bouquets for the maids and bride and boutonnières and wrist corsages for the groomsmen and grandmothers. The rock climbers in the family (including the groom and best man) teamed up to scale the massive vaulted rafters of the barn to hang the swooping sheer white fabric and three chandeliers, to get the ambiance of the rustic formal wedding just right. And the DIY list goes on and on…
