Horse Farm Wedding in Saratoga Springs, New York

Growing up, horses were my everything, so this Saratoga wedding at Fasig-Tipton makes me happier than I can even explain. With its subtle and stylish nods to the Bride and her family’s love for the horses and the area, every beautiful image by Sj2 Photography paints the picture of a day that was not only pretty but wonderfully personal too. See even more here.

From Sj2 PhotographyI am so excited to share this fabulous wedding that took place at a horse stable in Saratoga Springs, New York. The location is unique all on it’s own since it just started being used for wedding venues. The Bride was raised around horses and her family race their horses at the near by horse track. The location had a lot of meaning to the bride. She tied it all together with DIY painted bottles and hand painted table numbers. She also used horse shoes as her escort cards to continue in the theme of the stable. The ceremony took place outside in front of a beautiful tree right in the middle of the stables and the reception followed a few short steps away under a wood pavilion that is actually used to sell thoroughbred horses. The night continued with lots of dancing including a choreographed routine by the bride and groom. It was a day filled with love, DIY touches, laughter and lots of dancing.

From The Bride…Our wedding day went just as I had imagined and hoped. My husband and I had a short engagement (about 7 months), so getting all of the little details together was an exciting and fun chaos. As an only child, my parents and I are very close so organizing pieces for the wedding was a very fun and crafty way to bring my mother and I back together after being away from home for a long time. During visits at home, you would find my mother and I cleaning and painting horseshoes, printing name plates, and spray painting bottles. The venue we chose holds such significance for my family and I as I grew up in a Thoroughbred race horse training family. After spending every summer at Saratoga racecourse as a child, it was very special to be married at the beautiful Fasig-Tipton auction grounds. Planning our wedding was a very unique and fun experience thanks to my wonderful husband, our families, and all of the great people I met along the way. Throughout the night of our wedding, we kept hearing from the venue staff that we had one of the most lively weddings they had attended to date, with a choreographed country/hip hop first dance and guests packing the dance floor from start to finish. All in all, it was a perfect day and I could not have asked for more.

Classic Manhattan Wedding

This wedding right here?  It’s the epitome of a classic NYC wedding.  A seriously sophisticated Manhattan affair with sooo many amazing details, it’s impossible not to stare.  Think a gorgeous bride, a stunning Christiano Lucci gown and a Riverside Church Of New York setting that is all kinds of wonderful.  This one’s made for the movies, lovelies.  See it all captured by Lauren Gabrielle right here.

From the Bride… Mike and I met in college in Connecticut, but our love really grew strong after graduation when we moved out to New York. We moved there independently for work, but in retrospect it feels like we moved there to fall madly in love with each other. With my family being from a small town in Connecticut, and Mike’s being from Boston, we decided that New York City would be the best location for our wedding, and to host our guests; in the heart of it the city that stole our hearts for the past seven years.

When we stepped into Riverside Church on the upper west side of the city, the stunning architecture of the church and the genuine beauty completely took our breath away – we knew this was where we wanted our happily ever after to start.

We decided on October because fall is our favorite season and we were married in less than seven months from the day of our engagement. The venue provided a traditional, classy and modern space for our nuptials, but being surrounded by so many of our loving family and friends is what truly made our wedding beautiful!

Whimsical Brooklyn Wedding at the Wythe Hotel

I love the cozy feel of this Wythe Hotel wedding. Intimate, yet casual where conversations probably flowed all evening. It’s the best sort of soiree if you ask me, particularly when the lovelies at DM Events Planning And Design are at the design helm. Daphne And Michelle were behind the lens so we didn’t have to miss a moment, and you can see the rest of the evening here.

From DM Events Planning And DesignWe are huge fans of the Wythe Hotel and are constantly inspired by the variety of designs we can create in its beautiful spaces. We are also total fans of Annie + David, and their laid-back, loving approach to their wedding. It was a pleasure to work with someone who adored and respected beautiful blooms the way we do! Annie put tons of trust in us – she asked for a soft, whimsical look and then let us run with it. We are so thrilled with how the design and florals all turned out, and thought it created the perfect scene for these lovebirds to say I-do.

Romantic Prospect Park Boathouse Wedding

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my time at SMP, it’s that Brooklyn weddings are awesome.  More specifically, Prospect Park Boathouse weddings planned to perfection by Exquisite Affairs Productions and captured in amazing images by Di Bezi Photography.  That’s a combo, my friends, that’s almost too perfect to believe.  Feast your eyes on every beautiful moment right here.

And a sweet film from Rob Cleary? Yes, please.

From the Bride… Riley and I met in Guatemala when we were both volunteers at a not-for-profit education center in Quetzaltenango, or Xela as it is better known. After spending a summer there together, we bought a handmade hammock and moved back to my home state of Texas. It was a complete surprise when, three years later, he asked me to marry him.

Looking for a location for our wedding, we wanted something with a romantic and classical feeling. On a hot summer day, we rode our bicycles to Prospect Park to see the Boathouse. Right away, we knew we had found the place. We thought about how we could come back and sit on the lawn and reminisce.

We wanted a wedding that reflected our personal values and found that often meant departing from popular traditions. We did away with the aisle, which would have separated the families that we were joining. No Pachelbel or Wagner: I made my entrance to the accompaniment of a contemporary Latin guitar trio. “Groom’s pie” was offered alongside the more familiar wedding cake. We took each other’s last names: I am Martinez-Lynch and so is he.

The ceremony itself was inspired by the Quaker traditions of self-uniting marriage and unprogrammed service. It began with a moment of quiet reflection. With no officiant presiding, we exchanged praise and promises that we had written for each other. Standing to either side was our modest wedding party: My best woman, Michele, and my best man, Phillip. Riley had his brother, Garth, as his best man and our toy poodle, Pocket.

The reception was decorated with our passions. A seating chart was set on an old map and our tables were named after cities we have visited together, including Gstaad, Guanajuato, Istanbul and of course, Xela. As wedding favors, we gave away copies of our favorite books, with stacks marked “Riley’s” and “Jen’s”. A colorful family tree print testified to Riley’s love of genealogy and provided our ancestors with a figurative seat at the table. The last song of the night was Willie Nelson singing “Twilight Time,” a nod to my Texan roots.

A month has passed and we are still soaring from all the love and joy of bringing our families and friends together for what truly felt like “our” day.

NYC Rockstar Wedding

Mabel and Tom are hands-down one of the coolest couples you’ll ever (virtually) meet. Tom, a certified rockstar a part of Sum 41, and Mabel a doctor with a serious streak for DIY crafting tied the knot with a wedding that’s spunky and stylish and ALL kinds of fun. Khaki Bedford made sure no detail went un-captured and you can click right here for soooooo much more.

From Khaki Bedford Photography… On November 4, 2013 a doctor and a rock star (of Sum 41) and were wed at the New York Academy of Medicine Library among the leather bound medical books in a spectacular and creative wedding. Mabel wore a dress custom designed by one of her bridesmaids, who happens to be the founder of Honor. The dress was strapless and made up of layers of tulle and appliqued paillettes. The groom wore his grandfather’s fedora. The DIY bride spared no detail from the hand-drawn invitation to the escort cards to the custom matches to the vintage-inspired cake table, adorned with tassel garlands and colorful 1950s cake-toppers. Pennant flags transformed the academic library into a playful ceremony and reception space.

Prior to the ceremony the wedding party took pictures at the Central Park Conservatory Garden across the street from NYAM. In addition to some beautiful portraits around the garden, there were shots of the couple and the bridal party with mylar letter balloons, and light writing with sparklers. After the ceremony the bride and groom were showered in colorful confetti (hand-cut by the bride and groom). Given the couple’s love of travel and the mixing of their two cultures, vintage postcards depicting faraway lands, NYC, and endearing phrases in Chinese and English were strung on twine and hung over the card catalog for guests to admire during the cocktail hour. During this time, guests were also encouraged to sign the guestbook by writing on a library card and snapping a polaroid to tuck in a cardholder.

Friends and family were entertained and moved by sweet and humorous toasts by both of their parents, followed by first dances. Everyone danced all night to the DJ’s tunes and snuck in some fun polaroid, and photobooth shots between songs.

Picnic Engagement Session

A picnic in the park is pretty much awesome any day of the week, but add in an adorable duo celebrating their upcoming nuptials and a fabulous vintage gown from Betty’s Girl Boutique and it kicks that awesome day up a few notches.  Think lounging around in the grass and a whole lot of sun-filled (+ beautiful) images captured by B Hull Photography.  See them all here.

From B Hull Photography… Anna and Jake met at a summer session class at Sacred University, where they both attended undergrad. Although they had very many mutual friends, they did not formally meet or know each other until that summer class in 2006. Their first date however, did not happen until 2011 but, they have been inseparable ever since!

For their engagement session Anna knew exactly what she was wearing, a vintage dress she purchased in Napa Valley a few years back! Oakland Beach Park in Rye, NY was the perfect backdrop for their picnic in the park.

From Khaki Bedford Photography… This is a beautiful fall wedding of a surfer/chef and his bride in East Quogue, New York. Before joining himself in marriage to Briana, Scott’s last bachelor acts were the exilaration of surfing the waves in the early morning and using his chef skills to grill for the wedding party and vendors. Prior to the ceremony, the couple’s first look involved a surf board followed by family portraits on the beach. Their love of the sea was further evidenced in the nautical navy blue and white color scheme and the oceanside setting for their exchange of vows. Pops of hot pink were found throughout the wedding from Briana’s gorgeous bouquet, to the groom’s socks, to the table centerpieces, to the sailboats and anchors printed on the escort cards. The reception began with a raw bar of oysters, shrimp, and sushi, followed by dinner and a night of dancing and celebrating. A gelato truck ended the night with special treats for all. The guests wished Briana and Scott smooth sailing ahead!

You’ll never smile more than you will on the day of your wedding.  And guaranteeing that perfect photo-worthy smile?  The “painless dentistry” specialists, NY Smile Specialists.  Think teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, Invisalign and cosmetic reshaping all at the hands of Board-Certified Prosthodontist, Dr. Robert C. Rawdin.  You’ll look amazing.

From NY Smile Specialists… Every bride wants to be beautiful on their wedding day. So start with the most important accessory of all. Your smile!

Plan ahead. Some brides (and grooms!) may only need whitening. Others may require more involved, more time consuming procedures – like cosmetic reshaping, bonding, porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns, Invisalign, or combinations of these. Make sure you have the time you need for the services you need.

New York Smile Specialists, a celebrity Manhattan dental practice, is the office of Dr. Robert C. Rawdin, a recognized leader in cosmetic, restorative and implant dentistry.  Dr. Rawdin is a Board-Certified Prosthodontist, the specialty that focuses on the restoration and replacement of teeth with an emphasis on natural esthetic beauty.

Very few dentists in the country have achieved the level of training that Dr. Rawdin has – even fewer are Board-Certified Prosthodontists. His patients benefit from his technical expertise and artistry whether they need simple or complex dental care, based on an individual, customized treatment plan. Dr. Rawdin will evaluate the attributes of what makes a smile beautiful – color and shape of teeth, arrangement and alignment, and the health of gums.

New York Smile Specialists is a welcoming, friendly, high-tech office with views of Central Park. The practice utilizes the latest advances in cosmetic, restorative and implant dentistry to make the process of creating a beautiful smile much easier for patients. Patients love that Dr. Rawdin has the ability to offer CEREC – technology that makes it possible to have a crown done in one day – minimizing the number of appointments. Patients also love Dr. Rawdin’s calm and comforting, gentle manner, often remarking about his “painless dentistry”.

So while you plan your big day, remember, nothing compares to the glow of a natural looking, healthy, radiant smile. It makes every photo of any bride more beautiful.

Midtown NYC Proposal

No matter how many special moments I see march through the pages of SMP, I’ll always turn to mush at a proposal. It’s that magical moment where giddiness can’t be contained, and this one…well, it all took place in a photo booth. Read on for the full story and don’t miss g.chung photography’s captures right here!

From the Bride.. Eddie proposed to me inside a photo booth at the Ace Hotel in midtown NYC a few days before our 5-year anniversary. He found out the night before the photo booth was broken (Ace Hotel had the lights on inside the booth for him!), but always resourceful, he taped up his iPhone onto the screen to record the entire proposal instead. He presented me with a beautiful hand-made scrapbook complete with pop-up photos of us and stories about how he will be there for me no matter what walks of life, and an envelope, on which he wrote “will you marry me, my love?” at the end with the ring. I cried the entire time and said yes to the man I love.

When we stepped out of the photo booth, our siblings and some of our closest friends based in NY, DC, and Boston surprised me. That was an unforgettable moment. I felt incredibly lucky to share our special day with our loved ones. It felt like a sneak peak into what our wedding was going to be like. One of my bridesmaids and a talented photographer, Grace took the bus down from Boston that morning and took these beautiful photos to record the whole thing. My sister-in-law brought custom-made E&E (after our initials) Georgetown Cupcakes and took us to Vucciria (which I’m sad to say no longer exists) in Hell’s Kitchen for a celebratory dinner. The celebration continued with more friends at the Press Lounge on top of the Ink48 Hotel. It was quite a memorable day for all and I am now happily married to Eddie.

New York City Engagement Session in Greenwich Village

My favorite engagement sessions are always, without fail, the ones where I get to take a little peek into the personalities of the people in front of the camera. So when this adorable duo decided to bring Studio Finch along to snap some pictures of their typical Saturday morning in their gorgeous neighborhood, they ended up with pictures that are simply priceless. See why I’m such a huge fan here.

From Studio FinchJulie and Mike absolutely love their neighborhood- it’s the perfect place to call home. Since they will be getting married in Chicago, they wanted to make sure to showcase New York City and Westvillage. Greenwich is filled with their favorite coffee shops, antique bike stores, the Hudson River boardwalk, Strand Bookstore and just about everything you can dream of. (Not to mention, Warby Parker just opened up shop, and Julie is obsessed going there. Glasses collection? I dare say yes.

We followed Julie and Mike around to showcase one of their typical Saturday afternoons- filled with reading, coffee, and neighborhood exploration. We stopped by Hudson Urban Bicycles, which had a plethora of amazing bikes and scooters in their yard. The Highline Trail allowed for some amazing urban nature- a bit of air in the contrete jungle. Everywhere from the Hudson River Board walk to Newspaper stands. It’s always amazing to see how much New York has to offer.

Spring Engagement Session in Central Park

I’m stealing a quote from the fabulous Divine Light Photography, because it’s just so accurate: “Springtime is magical in Central Park.”  A magical place perfect for snapping sweet engagement shots, I might add.  And when you have a pair as cute as these two rockin’ some bright spring-inspired hues, it makes for a pretty amazing day of pretty.  Check it all out in the full gallery.

From Divine Light Photography… Springtime is magical in Central Park and that’s just where these two lovebirds found a nest. Seriously though, Kristen and Nick’s style and love for each other was off the charts. I love it when you can feel what a session felt like and this one screams SPRING!

Traditional Elegance at Battery Gardens

Working at SMP, you realize pretty quickly that “love at first sight” isn’t quite as random as you always thought it was.  That adorable duos like this one happen upon each other at parties and know within hours that their lives are going to change for the better.  Hearing their stories is one of my favorite things, and celebrating in their nuptials?  Amazing.  See their story captured by Levi Stolove in the full gallery.

From the Groom…We met on Stacy’s Birthday, in New York City. Stacy invited our friend Scott who she studied abroad with four years earlier, unknowingly, a mutual friend.

Scott attended the birthday party, bringing me along, unaware of two lives he was about to change forever. After introducing Stacy and I, she leaned close to Scott and told him, “Your friend Jason is cute.” Eager to tell me, Scott quickly ran to the other side of the bar to do so. I looked puzzled at first, thinking this is one of Scott’s cruel jokes. However, looking at Scott, he realized this wasn’t a cruel prank. He looked me square in the eyes and said, “Go and talk to her.” As I walked towards Stacy, right at that point, I did not know my life would change. I smiled, she smiled back. A conversation easily followed. The party ended, Stacy kissed my cheek.

As I walked out onto the streets of New York City, I realized in one instance I found true love.

In a city as big as New York you can cross paths with hundreds of people a day. Those people are always just out of focus to the point they are just a background. However, on this one particular night, two people crossed paths and they were in focus.

From the Bride… Fast forward five years later to an apartment, a dog and a proposal that took place on a week-long vacation to San Francisco and Napa Valley. We were ready to let the world know the love we had for each other; in the city in which we fell in love – New York City.

Knowing our venue would be set in a city that has so much going on, our inspiration was to keep things simple, keep a neutral color palette and add a pop of my favorite color purple.

Incorporating both families into my style, I wore a pendant from my great grandmother that my mother wore on her wedding day, and borrowed the hair comb my new sister-in-law wore on her wedding day. The ceremony took place on one of the most beautiful September days under a simple yet elegant Chuppah, and as night fell, guests were guided to their tables with their names attached to a purple flower.

Keeping the same feel, the upstairs ballroom was filled with candles, ivory and purple centerpieces. We did away with a traditional guest book and honored the place we got engaged having guests sign wine bottles from Napa Valley that Jason and I will drink to celebrate our milestone anniversaries. Since love is sweet, we created our own candy bar giving guests a sweet treat to bring home.

From Sarah Postma Photography… Erika and Liam were lucky to have one of the best fall weather days of the season. The color and light during their outdoor wedding ceremony at The Tuxedo Club in New York was nothing short of magical. Erika’s Justin Alexander dress looked perfect on her, accompanied by a white bouquet by Dramatic Innovation, and brought together by a forest-green handmade shawl lovingly made by her grandmother.

The J.Crew bridesmaids dresses accented the fall colors well, accompanied by ivory shawls. The couple liked to describe their wedding as rustic and elegant, and the details conveyed that concept from the handmade invitations right down to the mini maple syrup bottle favors. They even added a basket of games and coloring books to the kids’ table to keep the ring bearers entertained during dinner. It was such a wonderful party – exactly what a fall wedding should be!

Summer Garden Wedding in New York

This affair has that old world feel but with a few unique twists that give it a modern air. Think a classic trumpet dress modernized with a single sleeve cut or the glamour of De Seversky Mansion mixed with the laid back festivities of a summer party. And with images by Judy Pak + garden arrangements by Terracotta Gardens, it all makes for a day chock full of unabashed beauty.

From the Bride… Pierre and I had our very first date in Berlin in 2005, the evening before he was due to move to Frankfurt for six months. The next day I wrote my dear friend back home about the “Dashing Frenchman,” whom I would probably never see again. The following weekend Pierre returned to visit, and (even if we spent the following six years living in different countries) we have been just about inseparable ever since.

Our wedding this past summer near my home in New York brought our loved ones together from both sides of the ocean, most for the very first time. It was everything we could have dreamed, but we couldn’t have done it without our amazing family and friends and without our vendors, whose remarkable talent and hard work patched over our own rough-hewn edges! From the bottom of our hearts, we want to acknowledge a few of their individual efforts here.

Pierre and I fell immediately for the de Seversky Mansion and its hint of old world glamor. The staff was with us through each stage of the planning process and they worked tirelessly on the day to see that everything looked absolutely effortless. During the cocktail hour we had the lawn game pétanque on the ready for our French guests, but they never even noticed because they were too busy munching on the delicious food!

Judy Pak our photographer is wonder woman. Some people say they hate being photographed, but I HATE being photographed. Judy and her team were so professional and reassuring. They moved seamlessly through the day to capture as much as possible. These photos are not just souvenirs of our wedding day, they are our memories—and truly special ones at that. For this we are ever grateful.

Shelley and Dale made us dizzy with gorgeous flowers, from a spray of delphiniums at the entrance to the hand-held huppah, from lovely birch pots for the cocktail hour to resplendent centerpieces. When Shelley heard that I had dreamed of long tables at the wedding, she found the perfect wooden farm table and slid it seamlessly into the more formal dining arrangements to make us all feel a little more cozy.

I have known Marie Therese and Dana for years and, let me tell you, they worked miracles to make a bride of me. Their kindness, energy and dedication made the entire process such a relaxing pleasure. On the day of the wedding everything went so smoothly that we could share a few laughs and forget for a moment why we were there. That was until they were done and I looked in the mirror!

If the team at Inklinations had only helped us find our invitations, envelopes and paper goods (in French blue no less) that would have been enough. But when the stationary company fell through before the wedding, they worked unremittingly to help us find new solutions, even combing through the aisles of Michaels Art Supplies with us and helping to tie all of the bows on our programs. None of which they had to do, but they did anyway.

I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge New York Orchestras, who helped us find such talented musicians throughout our cocktail hour and ceremony, and DJ Neza who kept everyone on the dance floor until the very end! (This was no easy task, mind you, for anyone who saw Saint Honoré’s incredible dessert display!!)

Everyone told me that planning a wedding would be stressful, but many forgot to tell us just how much fun it is. This experience brought us into contact with such incredible professionals and wonderful human beings. We wish nothing less for the special day of every couple who reads this.

Elegant Tappan Hill Mansion Wedding

Ashley Therese is to thank for bringing us the fairytale-worthy pretty below, and I want to reach through the screen and kiss her for it. It’s pure elegance. With the gorgeous Tappan Hill Mansion setting the scene, every gorgeous detail sitting in this gallery will stand the test of time, and you can see it all here.

From the Bride…Rob proposed a week after our five year college reunion, which was five and a half years after I whispered to my college roommate late one night, “I think I want to marry him”, which was six months after we started dating. He brought me to the site of our first “real world” date (post-graduation, post-first apartments, post-first-jobs) and proposed. It was just the two of us under the stars on the Boston Harbor, and I felt a wave of excitement rush over me- as if I literally felt the page to the next chapter of our lives turn.

And so began what I had been imagining since I was a little girl- the wedding planning! While Rob and I prepared for our marriage, my mother- with an unparalleled eye for design, my sister- with creativity and a voice of reason, and I- the dreamer and event planner, got to work planning the big day.

Although I dreamt about my wedding day for as long as I can remember, the only specifics I knew for sure was the “where” (my hometown church) and the band (who has always left me wanting more). Once the date was set, we found the perfect venue, the Tappan Hill Mansion tucked away in the beautiful Hudson Valley. The mansion is located on the former estate of Mark Twain and was just perfect with its rustic elegance in a picturesque, natural setting. I then found the most stunning dress (timeless and romantic with a modern flair), the perfect “something old” (my mom’s and grandmother’s cathedral lace veil), and an invitation to set the tone for our guests (classic yet customized with a fresh twist). Our floral design and soft candle light tied in perfectly to the elegant and romantic feel of the whole day.

These adjectives would guide the rest of our planning, and no detail went undiscussed. We hand-embossed our thank-you notes, designed and printed our mass programs (mirroring our invitations with rounded corners hand-cut by the groom-to-be), made mix CDs of our favorite upbeat love songs for the drive from mass to the reception, and assembled welcome bags for our guests with treats from the area (including my mom’s kitchen). My mom even surprised us with personalized chocolates and a sparkler send-off!!

It was our goal to craft a wedding that truly reflected Rob’s and my personalities as individuals and as a couple, scattered with special personal touches to not only create the perfect day for us, but a memorable experience for our guests- from the save-the-date to the last dance.

One of my favorite moments of the wedding day was when Rob and I strolled the grounds with the photographers while our wedding party and guests enjoyed the cocktail reception. Just like the night Rob proposed, it was just the two of us, but this time as Mr. & Mrs. I will never forget how it felt to feel like my best self, accompanied by my best friend, surrounded by everyone I love dearest, in my fairy tale setting. This reality blew away every dream I had ever dreamt for my wedding day.

My advice for brides to be? Keep your focus on the marriage and your identity as a couple- the craziness of wedding planning can shake you, but keeping focus on your marriage and this powerful commitment to each other will keep things in perspective, allowing all of the decisions and details to fall into place!

From Brklyn View Photography… Luminous light, pops of pink and the sweetest couple make for a gorgeous engagement session in New York City. We visited the Conservatory Gardens at Central Park on one of the last great days of the summer. The lawns were a lush green and the flowers were in full bloom. Claire and Adam visited the gardens on one of their very first dates so it was special and meaningful location for their engagement session. Claire wore her favorite pink lace dress from Anthropologie, which was the perfect pop of color against the green backdrop. They are one of the sweetest, kindest and most thoughtful couples I have the pleasure of working with and I’m so excited for their vineyard wedding next year!
