Stylish, Snowy NYC Wedding at Studio 450

From now on, when I think of stylish NYC weddings, this beauty from Caroline Frost will no doubt pop into my noggin. It’s simply city chic perfection, where every detail has style for miles and even the snow showed up on cue. Honestly I can’t get enough of every image sitting in this gallery, and you can see what all the gushing is about right here.

From The Bride…David and I are Ohio natives that met and fell in love in New York City. When it came time to plan our wedding we knew we wanted to share our big city home with our friends and out of town families. Our challenge was to have an “NYC wedding” that didn’t feel themed and we achieved this with our amazing venue: Studio 450. The penthouse loft space was the perfect place to showcase the views of the skyline and make our guests feel like they were attending a glamorous night out rather than at a stuffy wedding. The venue was also a beautiful blank white canvas where I could really get creative with everything from rentals and lighting to food and floral.

After a year of planning we came to the week of our wedding which surprised us with a blizzard. A family friend told me that “snow on your wedding day means that God is blessing your marriage” and we couldn’t have been happier with the bad weather! The snow made the weekend incredibly cozy and romantic, our guests really embraced the atmosphere. The bridal party and families spent the day at The Carlton Hotels incredible “New Yorker Suite” visiting and enjoying our mimosa bar while I prepared for the night. We later enjoyed an emotional “first look” and took to the streets for some stunning photos in the snow. After our ceremony concluded at the historic Church of the Incarnation, we surprised our guests with double-decker tour buses to take them on a quick jaunt through Times Square to the reception. Once at the reception the skies cleared and guests were able to dance the night away feeling like they were atop the city itself. It was an absolutely perfect weekend that we will cherish the rest of our lives.

Outdoor Brooklyn Wedding with the New York Skyline

When it comes to ceremony backdrops, the New York City skyline pretty much tops the list. It’s completely iconic yet wildly romantic, and this Brooklyn lovefest is the pretty little proof. The couple built their wedding on modern design with classic sensibilities, and 13:13 Photography snapped up every last bit. Click here to see for yourself.

From The Bride…I met my husband, Ahmet, in Istanbul. I was teaching there for a summer, and we fell in love. Shortly after I returned to the states, he relocated here as well. Our first year together was an adventure, to say the least, and we came through it with a fantastic bond and love for each other. We originally married in September 2011 in a small NYC CIty Hall ceremony with family, but held off on wedding receptions until the summer of 2013. Waiting to celebrate was a great idea, as we were able to have a fantastic ceremony and reception, my husband was able to use the English he had mastered over the past couple of years, his family was able to join us in New York from Turkey (and my family joined us in Turkey as well for our 3rd — and final — wedding celebration, but that’s another story!) and everything came together fabulously.

Our day was really very special. We wanted something that was celebratory & beautiful, that blended both of our cultures, and most of all, that was fun. We incorporated details from Turkish culture (“Turkish delight” favors, Turkish music and folk dance) while still maintaining a traditional American wedding ceremony and reception. The Turkish folk dancing was a big hit with all of our guests!

I also DIYed many of the details: my headpiece, the glass pedestal bowls for the centerpieces, invitations, programs and menus, and favors. I love crafting and our wedding was the perfect excuse to put it into practice. 1 year later, we are so incredibly happy and grateful to be spending our lives together, and we are expecting our first child! We are very, very excited to start our family.

From the Bride… Don and I knew immediately that we wanted to have our engagement photos taken in Brooklyn Bridge Park. This is where we had our first date in New York City, sitting on a park bench eating Grimaldi’s pizza. We live in Brooklyn and this is still where we often go to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. And you can’t beat the view!

Romantic Brooklyn Engagement Session

There’s no doubt that Whole Foods is part of my week grocery shopping routine. But after seeing this completely adorable proposal at the WF checkout? I’m bound to smile every time I unload my basket of goods. And it’s no surprise this duo’s little love sesh with Lauren Gabrielle Photography turned out stunning-as-ever. See more here and don’t miss the amazing proposal video below!

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/FRjFc8vSOug 600 338]

From the Miami New TimesLots of things happen in the checkout line at Whole Foods. Wallets are emptied. Meat-eaters become vegans. And sometimes, romances blossom. That’s what happened to Vladimir Romannikov and Monica Dehombre. Call it a Kombucha meetcute. In the same aisle where the organically-inclined duo met at Whole Foods Coral Gables, he proposed — complete with rose petals, a loudspeaker, and lots of teary eyes.

It’s a love story for the ages. About a year and a half ago, Monica and Vladimir rolled up to Whole Foods simultaneously. As she tells it, Vladimir, a medical student on his surgery rotation, spotted Monica in the parking lot — then spent his entire shopping trip trying to find a way to talk to her — even pretending to show interest in the fermented concoction known as kombucha tea. He followed her to the checkout where he let out the legendary pick up line: “So you shop all organic, huh?” “We finished paying and I waited for him and we took the escalator together. He asked me for my number in the parking garage. We went on our first date and never stopped after,” she says.

So when it came time to make their union official, Vladimir planned a romantic proposal at the exact spot (register #2) where they met. With some help from Whole Foods employees, the whole thing went down on Tuesday afternoon. To set the scene, rose petals were scattered on the floor, Dehombre’s favorite song (John Legend’s All of Me) played, and a Whole Foods rep called them to the front of the store. “So immediately I looked at him. I’m like ‘Oh my God, what’s happening?'” she laughs. He professed his love via intercom, got down on one knee — and oh, the tears. Commence happily ever after. “It’s been such a whirlwind. It’s such a normal thing going grocery shopping, I had no idea this would come of it so I’m very grateful to Whole Foods,” she adds. Could they be any more adorable?! Proof you never know where Mr. or Ms. Right might pop up — but, unsurprisingly, Whole Foods is probably a genetically-advantageous pool for dating prospects.

Boho Spring Wedding in NYC

Any time an Emily Steffen wedding comes our way, I brace myself for pure gorgeousness. She’s got a way with the camera and attracts some of the coolest clients around, so when she sent over Casi and Ben’s hipster-chic nuptials in NYC…well, I knew we’d happened upon something really good. It’s a day filled with quiet springtime romance, and in case you want more it’s all sitting right here.

From Emily SteffenCasi and Ben aren’t NY natives…in fact, they are from the great state of Wisconsin (yay) and have recently moved to call NYC home together…so photos in Central Park, with buildings peeking through the trees, was perfect for them! An intimate ceremony in a downtown Manhattan church, followed by a “cake sprinkle” throw as they left (I mean, what better way to send off newlyweds from the ceremony when the MRS is a pastry artist, eh?)! The guests were then, escorted by the ushers through the subway to the reception at the Radegast in Brooklyn! It was filled with wooden picnic tables, amazing beer selections and a grilling station for custom brats/sausage orders through the night!

The decor was a touch of spring meets romance. Spring bloomed cherry blossoms complimented the ceremony alter while romantic candles were sprinkled at Casi and Ben’s feet as they exchanged vows! Glowing candles and succulents were perfect for the tables at the reception as they were displayed on purple table runners to soften up the wooden picnic-type-tables! Large bulb lights and greenery finished off the romance of the reception space while guests enjoyed their WI beer and sausage for the night!

It was a casual night that was filled with laughing, shared stories and new friendships…I don’t think Casi and Ben would have imagined anything better! The city lights escorted them to their car as they drove away into the city to adventure together as Mr and Mrs!

NYC Winter Wedding at The Foundry

“Chic” doesn’t even begin to describe this NYC love affair, and with Firefly Events behind the pretty, it comes as no surprise. They helped bring Ilana and Tim’s cozy winter wedding vision to life and thanks to Ro of Les Loups we have it ALL at our fingertips. Join me in the gallery right here.

From Firefly EventsWe love a cozy winter wedding, and Ilana + Tim’s snowy December wedding was one for the books! We worked with Ilana to add warm, inviting, and personal touches to every aspect of her beautiful venue, The Foundry in Long Island City. To set the mood, we brought in a number of antique rugs and placed them through out the space, including three of our favorites, which we layered under the chuppah. Ilana’s father is Turkish and the family has a collection of similar rugs, so this seemed like a natural fit. Next, we paired these with plush vintage furniture in rich tones, and added cozy lambskin throws and pillows throughout. Candlelight could be found in almost every corner of the venue, from a variety of lanterns, votives, and tall taper candles.

Instead of a traditional sit down dinner, the bride and groom opted for a cocktail style reception. This meant that we could really mix things up when it came to the food! We worked with Creative Edge to transform one of the rooms into a foodie heaven, reminiscent to one of the gourmet food fairs that we’ve all become addicted to, here in New York City. Stations included, tacos, Middle Eastern fare, pasta, and civiche. Not surprisingly, this was a huge hit with guests, who had a chance to sample each selection while chatting with friends and listening to one of the best DJ’s in town, Kenan from Les Loups.

Poppies and Posies was on hand to create beautiful seasonal florals throughout The Foundry, as well as constructing the stunning chuppah AND one of our favorite details from the night, a glowing installation wall of terrariums and candles. As if working with this amazing team was not enough, Mother Nature pitched in for the best detail of all- snow!! Ilana + Tim’s wedding happened to fall on the first snowstorm of the season and it couldn’t have been more picture perfect.

City Hall

From Jimena Roquero….Aileen and Harry met in DC where they both work and live, but they decided to secretly get married in New York. They picked a date in the middle of December and they celebrated a romantic elopement in City Hall. It was a perfect day, just the way they had planned it. They even got a free ride from the taxi driver who drove them to Tribeca for the photoshoot!!

From The Bride…My husband and I met in DC but we decided to travel to NYC for the wedding because it is one of my favorite cities. I moved away from NYC in 2003 and to this day still miss it dearly. We wanted the day to just be simple and just about us, so we didn’t tell anyone except for my girl friends who would be our witnesses. The day after, we surprised our family and friends with the news.

5 Tips for Purchasing a Custom Engagement Ring

Engagement rings aren’t always discussed at length, because well, a proposal is most often a surprise. But nonetheless, scouting out the perfect ring is a tough process. So why not go the custom route? Josh Levkoff is giving us five handy tips on the process today. If you’re in the market for a one-of-a-kind sparkler, you might want to tuck this one away for safe keeping! And darlings, we won’t tell if you anonymously leave this post up on your sweetie’s screen.

From Josh Levkoff Private Jeweler… We all know someone whose engagement ring is just…meh. That should never be. For something that will be worn and seen every single day, an engagement ring should be loved, cherished, and coveted! As a custom jeweler at Josh Levkoff Jewelry for many years, I’ve seen it all. From clients who know exactly what they want, to those who have no clue, creating custom jewelry is an experience from beginning to end. By going the custom route, you and your jeweler can create a one-of-a-kind engagement ring together that you can be sure no one else in the world has. So what exactly is the process and best way to approach customizing an engagement ring? Here are five important tips to getting the sparkler you’re in the market for.

1. Get inspired. From pages of a magazine to pins on Pinterest, inspiration can be found anywhere! Talk to people, take pictures of friends’ rings, go window shopping—anything for interesting ideas. Knowing your (or your significant other’s) style is important as well. Are you a risk taker, or more conservative? Do you like to dress up, or be casual? These factors can be brought into the ring creation. At a loss? The design team at Josh Levkoff Jewelry can provide you with plenty of ideas to get the wheels turning.

2. Find a jeweler you trust. Working with someone you can trust is a very important factor in this process. Ask around—usually word of mouth will find you a reliable jeweler. From there, be sure to use their knowledge, resources, and experience. Let him or her bring their talent and creativity to your project! After all, they’re in this business for a reason.

3. Set a budget. Custom rings are not just for the rich and famous, but because of their endless possibilities (and the fact that there are typically diamonds involved), they can get pricey quickly. So set your budget, be upfront about it with your jeweler, and stick to it. There are many ways a jeweler can help you can stretch your budget and maximize resources to obtain a beautiful piece. And remember: bigger is not always better.

4. Pick your stone. This is when it starts to get fun! At Josh Levkoff Jewelry, clients not only get a beautiful end result—they are educated along the way. When custom designing a ring, you first pick out the center diamond and then you build the rest around it. The design team goes through all of the shapes and sizes of diamonds and/or various other gemstones until you find the perfect stone. With diamonds, craftsmanship and quality can vary drastically, so it’s important you find a jeweler who can give you the best quality piece for the best price.

5. Be open-minded and have fun! With today’s technology, anything you dream up can be created. And if you’re worried about taking a risk on a unique ring, don’t be! Thanks to CAD, or computer-aided design, you can see what your piece will look like before you throw down your credit card. CAD will help your jeweler take the design concept and its specifications (such as finger size, metal type, stone shape and size, stone placement, shank width, setting style, and more) and build a 3D design for your approval. So don’t be afraid to be a little adventurous! This is a unique opportunity to showcase your freedom of expression.

When customers see the final piece completed, they are mesmerized by it. And after being involved throughout the entire process, they feel a stronger appreciation for their unique piece. A custom design piece of jewelry always turns into an heirloom, a true treasure.

Brooklyn Urban Garden Wedding

When Loli Events and Blossom and Branch join creative forces, good things happen. REALLY good things. They’re the pretty makers behind this rainy day Brooklyn wedding and the photos by Khaki Bedford are all the proof we need. Settle in with your cup o’ joe and prepare for an urban garden affair done right.

From Khaki Bedford PhotographyAdam Gerber, an Architectural Engineer, and Dana Friedman, a Non-profit Grant Writer, got ready at one of my favorite venues, The Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It was on the verge of torrential downpour when we headed outside to do the First Look and just as we stepped out it started pouring. It was a blessing in disguise as we ended up using the hotel room instead, which resulted in some of my favorite photos of the day! One of my favorite moments was during the First Look. Dana waited for Adam in her room, while looking out the window towards the Manhattan skyline, Adam crept in and they held hands back to back long enough for me to get “the shot.” They were so excited and it was such a lovely moment. You could tell how in love they are and they didn’t let the terrible weather ruin an ounce of their excitement for one another!

After getting ready at the Wythe Hotel, Dana and Adam walked to the eclectic Jungle Design garden for the ceremony. I love how the photos go from neutral blues and whites of the hotel to an explosion of color and greenery! The ceremony was short and sweet and then they all headed back to the Wythe Hotel for an amazing dinner at Reynard, toasts, and dancing!

Cozy Hudson, NY Barn Wedding

It’s kind of a blogger cliché, but I’m one of those girls who completely geeks out over fall. The leather boots and pumpkin lattes, cozy sweaters and nutmeg candles – it’s everything I love rolled into one perfect time of year, and this berry colored wedding is yet another reason why. Pickles And Pies brought the romantic barn vision to life and Rebecca Yale Photography has all the goodies here.

Rustic

From Erin Crosby of Pickles and PiesAs a wedding planner and stylist I come across many kinds of weddings. All weddings are special, but others rise above that and become something truly memorable. Andrew and Gretchen are two of the kindest and lovliest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Because Gretchen was off in Boston getting her degree from Harvard Business and Andrew had just opened up his first restaurant, Untamed Sandwiches here in NYC, Getting together and planning a wedding was not going to be easy. We relied on lots of emails and the use of Pinterest.

Gretchen being able to pin pictures that inspired her, and get ideas out of her head and into board gave me a peek into her wants and hopes for this wedding. What I came away with was a rustic, sweet, and romantic barn wedding. She chose jewel tones and deep purples for her colors, and let me fill in the blanks. I loved using lace and wooden boxes for floral centerpieces, and the use of craft paper for all our paper goods. We had custom chalkboards for the program and shuttle schedule. For the ceremony, we filled wood cones with dried lavender for the guests to throw, and had personal wood fans for the heat.

The entire day was filled with personal touches. The love of their lives is their dog Revis, who couldn’t be at the wedding. We created the special cocktail for the day called The Revis Island, to have him be a part of the celebration. The “guest book” was actually a polaroid camera. Guests took fun pictures of themselves then glued them into a custom book with a little note to our happy couple. One of my favorite touches to the wedding was the “table numbers”. They chose places/restaurants that had special meaning or importance in their relationship and told the story of why on the back of the cards. Every guest came away knowing a bit more about them as a couple. One of the big things that makes Andrew and Gretchen so wonderful, is that they are people who give. Helping others is part of who they are, and they are passionate about it. So instead of giving their guests a traditional gift, they let their guests choose what charity of three that were important to them to donate to. We made cards that were placed on each table setting, then set up a display of 3 jars for guests to put their cards in. They chose North Shore Animal League, Minds Matter, and Root & Rebound. The most beautiful thing to see was people not only putting their cards in, but dipping into their pockets and putting cash into the bowls.

This wedding ended up helping three organizations in need. The food was served family style by Cucina out of Woodstock. The day was captured by the wonderful Rebecca Yale. And the 45 Riots kept everyone dancing all night. We ended the night with a grand sparkler exit towards their after party, where we had a bonfire and late night drinks and snacks waiting for everyone. It was a beautiful day, for a wonderful couple.

From The Bride…Our wedding day was everything we could have hoped for and more. In the morning, I had so much fun getting ready with my bridesmaids – admiring the hair stylists’ and the makeup artists’ work; popping champagne and lots of laughter. I was so lucky to be surrounded by such inspiring women who were also my closest friends, and it helped distract me from the butterflies in my stomach. I only learned later that my soon-to-be husband was experiencing the same butterflies while watching World Cup games with his groomsmen, even though I assumed he’d be the calm and collected one!

Seeing my husband for the first time for our First Look was probably my favorite moment of the day. Us being together (forever!) was the whole reason everyone had gathered in Hudson that day, and so seeing each other in our wedding-finery was both exhilarating and calming at once. My husband told me his favorite moment was later on seeing me walk down the aisle, but I was concentrating so hard on not crying at the time that I barely remember it.

Our officiant was a mutual friend who got ordained for the occasion and led a moving and personal interfaith ceremony. Despite an iffy forecast earlier in the week, the weather was perfect, and we got to enjoy the beautiful grounds of our venue for our ceremony and cocktail hour. We moved into the barn for the reception, which had a natural beauty without any adornment, but really took my breath away when I saw how our planner had set everything up – from the hanging twinkle lights, to the table runners, to the floral centerpieces, to the dance floor…no detail was overlooked!

We enjoyed a delicious family-style feast from Cucina and then a rocking dance party care of 45 Riots. And of course, through all the craziness, our incredible photographer was there to capture the special moments that were over in the blink of an eye. She was the best vendor decision we made for our wedding, and I will relive the day for years to come through her gorgeous images. Now that it’s all over, I’m just so excited to be married to the love of my life, and we’re so lucky to have celebrated our love with our nearest and dearest in the most wonderful way possible!

Brooklyn Neighborhood Engagement Session

We see lots and lots of engagement sessions on this little ol’ blog, and that’s a good thing, because I adore them. I love seeing the raw love between the bride and groom-to-be, like these two snapped up by Pezz Photo, lovin’ in their very own neighborhood. Get a taste of their sweet love right here in the galley.

From Pezz PhotoFor Vanessa and Jon’s engagement session, we decided to explore the Brooklyn neighborhood where they live. Since the bride-to-be worked at New York Public Library, we were delighted to stumble upon a local library featuring fun artist scrapbooks. This shoot highlights a summer of love in NYC, as the couple enjoys all the sights and tastes of the city before traveling to Tampa, Florida for their wedding.

Library Inspired Wedding in New York

Here at SMP, we’re firm believers that inspiration is everywhere, and for these two lovebirds, a passion for reading had them hitting the library for some creative ideas. With help from Hatch Creative Studio, the unique design incorporated fun pieces (like a card catalog to hold the escort cards!) throughout the decor. Loli Events made sure everything ran perfectly and according to plan, and Photo Pink captured each magical moment.

From The Bride… My husband really wanted the farmhouse look, but I wanted something a little more upscale. We chose the Foundry because the greenhouse space offered something very spiritual and meditative with its ivy, water, and glass roof. The Foundry also offered lots of different spaces– I wanted my guests to have a different experience in every room, so there was always something to discover. I wasn’t too concerned with continuity of design.

Barb Salzman from Hatch Creative Studio was instrumental into turning our wedding into an experience, not simply an event. I didn’t want anything too tight or structured, lighter was better, but I also love installations. Barb spent hours with us helping me find just the right mix of yellow flowers, just the right heaviness and sparsity for the vases and the arch, and also located us a card catalog to pack our escort cards. She also listened to my less than conventional opinions about my bouquet. Our sample meeting was magical– I felt like I got to walk through my own wedding at her studio!

Finally, we were absolutely THRILLED with our PhotoPink pictures. We still think we have the best pictures we’ve seen.

My husband is not religious, but I am, so I modeled our ceremony after a Catholic wedding rite. We used the traditional “in sickness and in health” vows and also wrote our own surprise vows– Alex promised to always keep me at an external body temperature of 72 degrees (because I am always cold). I wrote the ceremony, and we really made sure that the focus was on the sanctity of marriage and union, rather than on our love.

We had choreographed our first dance using swing steps and had a lot of cool side by side steps. However, we hadn’t counted on the fact that my dress was about 4 feet+ in diameter and covered both our feet! No one could see our fancy moves.

At the reception, Alex sang for me and accompanied himself on guitar, Jack Johnson’s “Banana Pancakes” to hearken back to our lazy college days together, and Bruce Springsteen’s version of “Fire.” He made everyone swoon.

Romantic Autumn Wedding at The Foundry

Bold statement alert: the gallery you’re about to click through is bar none my favorite Jen Huang wedding ever. And if you take a look back at her amazing work over the years, you’ll realize that’s a pretty big deal. With layer upon layer of rich berry tones and floral lover’s heaven a la Poppies & Posies, this Monday morning just got really, REALLY good.

[iframe https://player.vimeo.com/video/83366738 600 338]

From The Bride…My vision for the wedding design was romantic and ethereal, much as is my personal style. I’m a California girl through and through, and I wanted the wedding design to show my casual-but-funky style. Purple is both my and my husband’s favorite color, so we started our palette there, and moved on to include mint greens and rose golds.

The inspiration was vintage chic, with a lot of very soft touches to contrast with the industrial design of the space. As writers and scifi nerds, it was also very important to us to incorporate quite a few personal elements (hence the star wars table names, the vintage typewriter, the invitation addressed to Dumbledore,  and the LOTR quotes!). The aesthetic was ultimately driven by my gown, which in layers of blush silk chiffon and organza-but with a high couture design, embodied the romantic, modern fairy tale vibe I had envisioned. Because I wore blush, I wanted my bridesmaids to wear ivory, and the sweep of our collective gowns really added sense of airiness to the space.

I put together a lot of the details myself-with the help of my very patient bridesmaids-including the chalkboards and cakestands-and although it was a lot of work, the end result was better than anything I could have ever hoped for. Everything flowed together so perfectly, from the romantic twinkle lights, to the vintage sofas, to the farm tables, to the deep purple dahlias and earthy succulents. Every detail of the design was seamlessly integrated, and although nothing ever goes exactly as planned, the culmination was flawless; there isn’t a single thing I would’ve changed about my wedding day!

Classy Sun West Studios NYC Wedding

This soiree from Betsi Ewing? It’s a New York City classic through and through. Clean lines, white backdrops, crisp ivory florals and killer style (hello gorg Carolina Herrera dress!)… and did I mention it’s sprinkled with the cutest of kiddos? It’s a sweet sophistication that will keep you coming back for more.

From Betsi Ewing Studio… While in New York for business Madrid native Daniel was introduced to Gitty through a mutual friend. Neither knew they were being set up when they arrived at the now defunct Hotel Griffou in the West Village. Their dating savvy friend had thought it best they meet before having the opportunity to Google each other, and not because either was sitting on extensive criminal indictments but because she thought the “old fashioned way” stopped both from arriving with pre-conceived notions. Two weeks after they first met, Daniel returned to New York and took Gitty on four dates in a row. And while Gitty thought the relationship was most likely not going anywhere due to the fact that their homes sat on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, she still accepted his invitation to join him in Madrid for a week. And from there began a back and forth between Madrid and NYC which still continues today. They decided to get married in New York because it was where they met but also because it was halfway between Gitty’s family in Los Angeles and Daniel’s family in Spain. They married in an open plan loft in Chelsea surrounded by 140 of their closet friends and family. Their friend Jeff, who performed the ceremony, described it as the joining together of Gitty’s 120 friends with Daniel’s 20. It was a wonderful night of which they remember very little outside of the ceremony and the tug of war over the air conditioning. The Spanish contingency felt strongly that any air conditioning was too much while the Americans explained that sweating was not an attractive look. In the end, a compromise over the thermostat was reached. No doubt the first of many to come.

From Josh Gooden CinematographyThis is one of my favorite weddings that I’ve ever had the privilege to shoot. The bride manages the wedding section of Etsy.com as a staff member, so we were in for a real treat! The wedding took place under some amazing pines in Roxbury, NY, so it had a very woodsy/rustic feel. Both the bride and groom are insanely talented in their own right, so there were personalized vows that spoke to them, surprise guitar performances, a tango or two from Zack’s grandparents, and more.

From the beautiful Bride… On August 25, I married my best friend. It will be a day I’ll always treasure. Zack and I began dating our last semester at college, but those four months were some of the happiest of my first 22 years, with more surprises, fun, and love than I thought possible. After an amazing postgrad adventure to Peru, we parted ways to Philadelphia and New York, deciding to stick together as long as our motto, “so far, so good,” rung true. A couple of years later, I landed a onceinalifetime internship and moved to New York to work on the Etsy Blog. As I planted roots for my career and life in the Big Apple, we tested our relationship in a 400 sq. foot East Village studio, complete with a Murphy bed.

Luckily we turned out to be two peas in a pod, and after three and a half years of dating, we got engaged. True to form, Zack surprised me with a poem chronicling our relationship, turned into an artful book illustrated by Attic of Curiosities. The simple ring held the diamond that had engaged his mother and grandmother, which we later complemented with a 1920’s setting. As we began planning the wedding of our dreams, we realized how important it was to us that the experience reflect who we are. We wanted to set the tone with a ceremony that was honest and heartfelt, in a setting that highlighted our love of nature and sense of adventure. We wanted to create a joyful atmosphere for friends and family that would extend throughout the weekend, encouraging mingling and fun.

We found the perfect setting in Roxbury, New York, a charming historic town in the Catskill Mountains. We made our invites from scratch, with commissioned stamps made locally. We reduced paper waste by folding the invite to be the envelope itself, and included the RSVP form and other important information on our website. The many bed and breakfasts and private rentals in the area provided lodging for our guests, who had fun exploring neighboring towns and a local farmers’ market. An informal rehearsal dinner at the local performing arts center, with lighthearted “acts” by friends, family and a local bluegrass band, kicked things off and set the tone for a jovial weekend.

We got ready at the historic Roxbury Village Inn, where we later held our Sunday brunch. My bridesmaids were able to roll out of bed and mosey over to the bridal suite to prep for the wedding. I gave them each a necklace from The Whirlwind, choosing unique designs to match their individual styles. To wrap the stems of our bouquets, I found vintage scarves in tonal colors from zaama, Ethel and Annie Scarves, sunsprite2011, Sarara Vintage, and Luv Me Two Times.

Our wedding was held at The Roxbury Barn, whose beautiful grounds provided a flexible canvas for our special day. We chose to have our ceremony in an intimate grove of tall, lodgepole pines that felt magical from the first time we visited it. We framed the ceremony with tall curtains we made ourselves, and the addition of flowers at the base completed the simple look. My nephews were our ring bearers, with pillows from whichgoose and cute bowties made by bloombyarissia. We developed a heartfelt ceremony with the rabbi, a family friend, and each wrote our own vows that made the moment sincere and personal. After sealing our marriage with a kiss, thousands of maple leaf “helicopters” floated from above — our own version of bubbles.

After cocktail hour overlooking the Catskills, we moved downhill to have dinner on the lawn outside of the barn. The decor elements we added included place cards (with twine from fromlosttofound) and table runners, which were quick and easy since we simply tore the woven fabric and left the edges raw to fit the rustic setting. We purchased bulk frames, and made some into reusable menus, with chalkboard paint and pens. Our table “numbers” were actually places that held significance in our relationship; guests could move around, meeting people and learn more about our history. Finally, the flowers, mercury glass, candles and string lights from the venue and florist made the scene transition beautifully as the sun set. We paused during dinner to take in the wonderful moment.

When dinner and speeches were complete, we began the real party in the barn. The dancing didn’t stop for hours. With such a beautiful structure, hardly any decor was needed. I created garlands out of scraps of fabric, and we hung childhood and family photos upstairs. We had a Magnolia photo booth upstairs, and asked our guests to paste in a print of themselves and add message to our guest book, which was created by Three Trees Bindery. It is a keepsake we will treasure forever.

If there are any takeaways we can share from our experience, they’d be: There are no rules. Just because something is traditional doesn’t mean it’s right for you. We carefully made decisions based on whether doing (blank) meant a lot to us — and in the end, everything we said and did felt genuine to us. Spend thoughtfully. Chances are, this is the largest amount of money you will spend thus far in your lives. Your dollars can go far in contributing to both a beautiful day, and to supporting the livelihood of artisans and small, local businesses. Create your own vows. We wrote ours a week before our wedding, and the process forced us to get off the high speed planning train, and focus on why we were doing this. Reading them in our ceremony was unforgettable, and they will help guide us throughout our many years ahead.

The night ended with a bonfire on the hill, where we wound down and reflected on what a beautiful day it had been. Several months later, we’re still pinching ourselves, and we wouldn’t have changed a thing.

Timeless Long Island Wedding at Chateau Briand

There are so many moments captured by Ayenia Nour Photography of this gorgeous wedding planned by Exquisite Affairs Productions I adore, but there are two that truly make me weak in the knees. First, is that ceremony setting. It’s beyond and will probably day in my dreams for days. Second, is the way these two look at each other. Obviously, there is so much more to swoon over, but a Groom that looks at his gorgeous Bride that way always wins in my book.

From The Bride…Corey won me over with his great sense of humor and strong family bond. So when he proposed, it made perfect sense to be surrounded by both of our families. At midnight on New Year’s Eve, he asked me to marry him, after a few minutes, I realized he was serious, and I finally said “yes!”

After deciding we waited long enough to get married, we booked and planned our wedding in less than 3 months! I had a vision of the venue style I wanted, I was looking for a clean modern look with outdoor option. With one look at the newly renovated room at Chateau Briand, I was sold! The outdoor area provided a romantic aisle to meet my groom.

Pinterest helped me find inspiration and organize ideas. I tried to stick to a timeless style. Lucky we had the support of our talented family and friends. My mother-in-law addressed all of our invitations with her calligraphy. A dear family friend brought my bridal vision to life, first by creating a headband out of a piece I found, then by shifting the belt on my dress. I wore my sister’s handmade cathedral mantilla veil to complete a classic look. To stay connected throughout the day, I held my grandmother’s handkerchief with my bouquet, pinned with her photo charm.

No wedding is complete without a few DIY projects. My card box was a group effort to create the look of a draped veil. My sister is a “day of” wedding coordinator and quickly had recommendations for vendors. Photographer Ayenia Nour and videographer 15 Minutes of Frame, captured the love we felt that day. Under a tree planted for his grandfather, at Corey’s parents historic Long Island home, I had my first look at my handsome groom, followed by photos around the beautiful southern looking grounds. It was a day we will never forget.

Brooklyn Wedding with Urban Elegance

You’d be hard pressed to find a love story sweeter than this. What started as neighbors in Brooklyn for six years ended in an eventual date, proposal and wedding set in the very same neighborhood where it all began. Think classic elegance meets urban charm, with Gabrielle Aronas’ beautiful florals, Stacie Ford’s flawless makeup and Katie Osgood working magic behind the lens. More right here.

From The Bride…For years Greg was just the boy who lived below me. We passed one another in the hallway of our Brooklyn brownstone hundreds of times and after 6 years decided we should be friends. We soon became inseparable and what started out as friendship quickly developed into so much more. We fell in love over Thursday night drinks, Sunday dinners and countless Yankee games and after 2 ½ years of dating Greg proposed to me at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Greg and I quickly jumped right into wedding planning. We met, fell in love, and got engaged in Brooklyn

Contemporary Long Island City Wedding at The Foundry

I love this Bride and Groom. I love them for the obvious reasons, yes. You can tell they are head over heels for each other, and I just adore that. But what really rocked my socks off about this duo is their way of making their big day 100% them. It made for a day that was not only perfect but personal – and thanks to Agaton Strom we can see every moment of their stylish day here.

From the Bride…My name is Shawna and my husband’s name is Wes. We met a decade ago on the streets of NYC and after a 10 year courtship, in jobs that kept putting us in different cities, we finally were able to move in together in Long Island City, NY. We loved it there so much and on a walk one day found this incredible oasis in the midst of the city – The Foundry. An old metal mill that still had many of the iron work and exposed beams intact! It was as quirky and unconventional as we are, but beautiful enough for everyone to appreciate. It was home, literally and figuratively, and it represented all the love, the work and the time we put into our relationship to finally be able to get marries. Wes is an advertising art director so he created an arch logo to mimic the foundry’s arches to put on all our stationary, such as the seating labels and the menu. We also had the string quartet play a Death Cab for Cutie song that meant a lot to us at an important crossroads in our relationship as my walk down the aisle song, and we printed that out so everyone could read the words. We also had them play The Pixie’s “Where is My Mind” as our song to walk down the aisle together, because we thought this whole day was pretty crazy after a decade of being together.

My bridesmaids are all so unique and beautiful, I chose a Jenny Yoo dress that they could wear any way they’d like (with long panels that could be tied a plethora of styles). I also had 2 of my closest male friends in my bridal party, and had them wear pocket squares that matched the color of the bridesmaid dresses.

Our families are incredibly diverse and we wanted that to be reflected in the wedding. Wes’ mother is Chinese but he grew up on a farm in Vermont. So we asked our caterer to have Chinese inspired cocktail hour hors d’oeuvres but to have desert platters with Vermont staples like their ocal maple syrup. My father is retired FDNY so we had the FDNY pipes play for us right after the ceremony. One of my bridesmen is a classical pianist and The Foundry tuned their old piano so he could play a special piece for us. Wes and I have been together so long I wanted to name the tables after the years BEFORE we met (since most everyone thinks of us as a duo) – and I put pictures of us during that year as the table setting. Im a broadcast new reporter, and instead of a videographer, I wanted the day to be captured like a documentary so our caterer set up a time lapse camera in the space and just sped it up to the music of our procession, first dance etc etc.

The table settings were elegant and simple with lots of white flowers and hanging candles. Our ceremony was unconventional – we kept it short and gave our own vows and chose to tell funny stories about moments in our relationship that everyone in the room could identify with. It made for a laugh filled ceremony, which was important to us because our strange sense of humor is what has always marked our bond. At the end of the day we wanted everyone represented in our wedding because they’ve all helped to make up who we are and why we love each other so much.
