Elegant Wedding at The Garrison

Happy New Year’s Eve, my dears! Today is a day to pop bubbly, sport something sparkly and celebrate in style. But most importantly? It’s a day to celebrate l-o-v-e, love. And this beauty from Lindsay Madden Photography is surely a reason to raise your glasses. It’s jam-packed with elegance and a hint of glitz from the champagne colored Jenny Yoo bridesmaids dresses to the gilded details galore. See it all here!

From Lindsay Madden PhotographyOn a warm August day, Alex and Adam were married outside overlooking the Hudson Valley. It was quite the view! Alex and Adam envisioned their wedding day to be elegant with a relaxed vibe and most importantly, centered around their family and friends. The Garrison was the perfect place to bring their vision to life. Alex’s bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo in champagne and they were able to pick the style of dress that fit them the best. Their whole look was tied together with the most breathtaking bouquets provided by Steven Bruce Design. Alex’s wedding look was romantic and sophisticated. She looked gorgeous in her Augusta Jones wedding dress. Her bouquet was absolutely stunning and I simply loved the pops of color. Alex and Adam’s reception decor complimented The Garrison’s reception space perfectly. Steven Bruce Design dressed up each table with stunning flowers and candles. Alex, Adam and their guests danced the night away thanks to the talented Phase One Orchestra. I had such a wonderful time capturing Alex and Adam’s summer wedding!

From the Bride… James and I met in New York in December 2010, just 5 months after he moved to the city from Sydney, Australia. From the moment we got engaged in London last fall, we knew we wanted a Brooklyn wedding that would feel true to our roots, our Jewish background and our style.

We were thrilled to find 501 Union, a venue that had just opened in Gowanus mere blocks from our apartment. We loved every detail, from the massive skylight and modern chandeliers to the frosted glass doors and marble bar top – not to mention the vintage car out front from the venue’s first life as a classic car repair shop! The space felt elegant and timeless. All we needed to add were our personal touches – photos of our grandparents from their weddings, vintage playing cards for table numbers and antique-style keys attached to handwritten placecards by Elizabeth Castro. Of course, the look would not have been complete without the bright and gorgeous floral arrangements by Rhonda at August Sage and Violet!

We were married by our friend and Rabbi, Levi Shmotkin, in a traditional Jewish ceremony under a chuppah that James constructed by hand. We were able to include our friends and family, many of whom had traveled from as far as Sydney, in our ceremony as they read aloud our marriage blessings. I was so happy to be married with the same ring my grandma received at her wedding in Brooklyn nearly 70 years earlier.

James’ friends and family from Australia started off the party with a hora that I’m pretty sure most guests will never forget and we danced late into the night with great music from our Brooklyn-based DJ, Play Something Good. Our caterer, Heavenly Events, wowed us with the food, especially the wedding pies that we had in place of a traditional wedding cake. Every last detail was seamlessly executed by our planner, Jove Meyer – I loved that I did not have to worry about a thing and was truly able to enjoy my wedding with my husband! I am in awe when I relive the day through photos by the incredibly talented Rebecca Yale, who captured the love and joy of small moments so effortlessly.

Rustic Wintry Wedding Inspiration at Emmerich Tree Farm

I can’t imagine a better day to share this sweet Emmerich Tree Farm shoot from Sarah Tew Photography than Christmas. Filled with gorgeous greens, tartan, and darling little vignettes dreamt up by Details By Chelsea Ann it’s image after image of pure Christmas perfection – making this gallery one fabulous place to inspire this special day.

From Art Paper ScissorsSpread across several pristine acres Emmerich Tree Farm encompasses over 5,000 spruces, pine and fir trees nestled in quaint Warwick Valley, New York. A historic homestead rich in family traditions, the location and venue is where much of the inspiration for this shoot was derived. Imagine traditional winter hues of red and green with a modern twist of purple and gold to add layers of richness. Using natural elements we set out to capture the magic that encompasses winter. Cozy blankets, sweaters, pinecones and natural greens stole the scene. The raw beauty of the natural surroundings provided an exemplary backdrop.

We took a vertical approach to the classic welcome table incorporating homemade plum chutney favors, custom calligraphy seating cards, glittery candles and a gold and twig mailbox for cards.

The table was the perfect balance of winter from the mitten tied napkins to the gold rimmed plates, amber glasses and winter greens. A unique approach in lieu of a traditional tablecloth using layered pashmina scarves; incorporating the perfect combination of color while still maintaining the rustic charm of the natural wood table and benches.

Lastly the cakes. We wanted the cakes to add texture to the display. Each cake was designed with a different textured buttercream finish, adorned with hypericum. The design was accented by hand crafted pinecone frames, brass candlesticks and cozy sweater votive candles. And, of course nearby was the roasting fire! To soften the fire pit cable knits, candy canes, gingerbread cookies and hot cocoa for the win. To finish it off was the beautiful invitation suite which incorporated the perfect amount of whimsy with rustic.

I contacted local vendors to participate in making this vision come to life. A huge thank you to everyone, as this would not have been possible without each of you bringing unique ideas and talents to the table. A special thanks to Sarah Tew Photography for capturing the day!

Nutcracker-Inspired Wedding Shoot

With Christmas morning just mere hours away, sharing a festive – and wildly gorgeous – bridal shoot only feels right. Chock-full of seasonal hues and dreamy details with a subtle nod to The Nutcracker, I can’t think of any better way to get in the holiday spirit. Cheeky Details brought the ballerina bride concept to life and Caroline Frost captured one pin-worthy moment after another. More right here!

From the Planners of Cheeky DetailsWe were inspired to create a styled shoot that was visually stunning, but with a concept that has not been overdone or used all over the place. When we started thinking of words that encompassed what we wanted to portray, ballerinas danced through our heads and the idea of soft graceful beauty with muted colors & simple details were selected. We knew that we HAD to have an actual ballerina to throw in some amazing poses while holding a gorgeous bouquet with tons of soft, trailing silk that floated in the wind like a ribbon wand. We also knew that we wanted tulle to be incorporated in a subtle way to again take us back to the ballerina concept. The exterior of Chelsea Mansion was perfect. It could be used as a blank canvas, but it held a bit of drama and history to the shoot overall. We dressed up their old tennis court which was built in the 1800’s (and has not seen much action since) for our ceremony location with flowers and tulle.

The dresses that we chose from Kleinfeld Bridal seriously sealed the deal. We didn’t want typical ivory or white, but instead found not one, but TWO that fit our ideas perfectly. A soft grey Mark Zunino and a blush colored Lazaro fit the bill to a T.

We wanted our ballerina bride to exude gracefulness and innocence. We imagined her hair and makeup to be very soft, which is why we gave her bold eyes without using too much color, a pale lip and rosy cheeks. Hair was swept into a side braid using ribbon that matched her bouquet to finish the look.

As for our tablescape, we wanted to again showcase a dreamy and delicate look. We fused feminine details with whimsical charm and used many different textures/colors to set the perfect scene. Our Grey Acadia natural wood table was draped with a beautiful Sable colored, organza runner that emulated soft flower petals dancing down the table. Our chairs were adorned with side swept tulle that caught the wind at just the right times. We also used vintage place settings complete with gold flatware, blush stemware and mismatched plates. Some where all white with embossed patterns and others had flowers that accented the rest of the dinner party. We tucked our napkins, which were woven linen trimmed with gathered sheer fabric and fringe, under the plates at different angles to showcase even more intricate simplicity. We also placed a wreath of greens around the bride and groom’s plates instead of the typical flowers/greens on their actual chairs that we do very often.

The flowers we used consisted of Garden Roses, Tea Roses, Blushing Bride Protea and Ranunculus all in very pale shades of Pink and Creams accented by a ton of greens including Jasmine Vine and feather Eucalyptus. For a dramatic effect, we also threw in two pops of a very deep fuchsia featured in our Peony and Cosmos!

Romantic NY Metropolitan Building Wedding

When Michelle Edgemont and Brklyn View Photography join creative forces, gorgeous weddings are kind of a given. But truth be told? This Brooklyn love affair just might be my very favorite yet. Sprinkled with metallic details and stunning floral moments by Blossom And Branch, it’s redefining urban romance with all-out style and this little taste is only the beginning.

From Michelle EdgemontOn a nice August New York City day, Dana and Jonathan were married at the amazing Metropolitan Building. Full of antiques, interesting spaces, and unique props, the Metropolitan Building was a perfect compliment to the couple’s urban style. Michelle Edgemont designed and planned their beautiful wedding day. The main colors, peach and pink, were accented with her signature metallic gold touches throughout. Notice the cascading ribbon on the bridal bouquet and the gold confetti inside the hurricane candles. Michelle worked closely with Blossom & Branch to execute her floral vision. With lush garden roses and fluffy hydrangea, Blossom & Branch created romantic, pretty centerpieces and a show-stopper of a chuppah. Jove Meyers Events kept the wedding day running smoothly with his impeccable style.

Intimate New York City Winter Elopement

I’ll admit I’m not exactly the spontaneous type. I like plans. But reading about this couple, Ms. Australia and her handsome groom, traveling across the world for a surprise elopement in NYC, made me think I need to be a bit more adventurous. If the pure joy on their faces is any proof, then it’s worth it. Raquel Reis captured every NYC moment in this gallery and I can’t think of a better way to kick off the week.

From The Bride… New York has always been one of our favorite cities and a great inspiration to choose the city was it also being home to the number one restaurant in the United States, Eleven Madison Park. I have a Masters Degree in Gastronomy and as a TV Presenter specializing in food and wine, I have had the privilege to travel the world in my career and with my wonderful husband to see and experience some of the most amazing restaurants, wineries and produce markets in the world. Ross and I love food and wine, so when it came to making our decision – the first element of our wedding in the United States that I booked was Eleven Madison – the private dining room for our black-tie wedding.

Leading up to our wedding, like many brides, I had been planning and finalizing our wedding for the best part of a year – but here in Australia! We had three months until our initial wedding date when Ross and I just looked at each other and said “What are we doing?” Like many (or from what I hear nearly every!) wedding, ours had started to snowball with our venue in Australia proving close to impossible to make our dream day come true so we made the decision to elope and to one of our favorite cities, New York!

Being summer in Australia and winter (with snow) in New York – this took some tweaking of the creation of my wedding gown – I actually decided to completely change the entire design of my haute couture gown by amazing designer Paolo Sebastian – from strapless, princess-style, to a more classic and elegant style – featuring made-to-order hand sewn French lace from Princess Kate Middleton’s lacemaker for my bodice and long sleeves with an ivory silk georgette skirt and train. An elegant matching cashmere cape was also created featuring the special lace to complement my gown as we had envisaged the weather to be cold – but were thrilled to enjoy the hottest day ever recorded in December in New York with 22’C!

Once we had chosen New York and Eleven Madison, we chose our hotel – The NoMad, what a gorgeous boutique hotel! We decided to marry on the rooftop in the stunning marquee with beautiful hanging chandeliers, the iconic New York skyline as our backdrop with the historic Cupola Dome and a string quartet playing as I walked down the aisle with my dad to marry my handsome groom. In choosing to elope, we decided to invite only a small party with our male guests looking very dapper in their black bow-ties and the ladies very elegant in black with a touch of red – which I tied in with our stunning classic red roses theme – my bouquet, miniature red rose wrist corsage for the ladies and red rose lapel for the gents.

Creating a vision board of our theme really helped to convey and share our dream styling with all our wonderful service providers – from our Ron Ben-Israel stunning white and gold monogram tiered wedding cake with red sugar roses topper, to our beautiful photographs from Raquel Reis Photography and wonderful film by Joseph Edwards Films. The team at Eleven Madison and The NoMad were also exceptional – such amazing attention to detail and all so genuinely lovely. Special touches also included the gorgeous miniature ring cushion my mum made for us, featuring lace from my wedding gown.

It was a special moment walking down the aisle with my dad to marry my groom, church bells started chiming from all around Manhattan, very, very special and one of those signs you know that you are in the right place at the right time. Marrying my wonderful husband and best friend.

Elegant Autumn New York City Engagement Session

Being in front of Rebecca Yale‘s lens is a magical and insanely fun experience, I can say that first hand. So every time she sends a love sesh our way? I know I’m going to fall head over heels for every single image. And with just a few short days left to soak up the joys of autumn, these classic fall moments featuring a completely adorable (and stylish!) duo in New York City are hitting the spot. Cozy up to the sweet gallery!

From Rebecca Yale PhotographyLiving in New York City can seem so hard during the winter when the temperatures drop well below freezing and slushy black snow coats the streets, but it’s moments like Derek and Jackie’s Fall engagement session that make it all worth it! We photographed on a perfect Fall NYC day in Central Park catching the beautiful foliage at its peak with dazzling reds, yellows and oranges surrounding us. After an afternoon spent wandering through the rambles we headed down to the West Village, where they met, and enjoyed the last bits of light as we walked through the small windy streets of downtown.

From the beautiful Bride…Derek and I met and live in New York City, and we wanted our engagement photos to capture classic New York. I’m originally from Los Angeles though, and no matter how long I’ve lived here, “classic New York” to me means beautiful foliage in Central Park during the fall. Derek, on the other hand, is a native New Yorker and finds it mostly terrifying how loudly I yell “look at all the pretty colors!” in public every year around this time.

Anyway, we were lucky to have timed our engagement session at the peak of fall- with vibrant yellow, orange and red hues all around Central Park. Even more, we were so lucky to work with our incredibly talented photographer, Rebecca Yale. She was able to find the most amazing spots inside the park, and capture perfect lighting! We then headed downtown to the West Village, near where Derek and I had our first date. The entire day together was a ton of fun, and we’re both so glad to have these photos as dear memories.

Romantic NYC Rooftop Wedding

I am absolutely in love with this bride’s dress. This Reem Acra wonder from Gabriella New York is my definition of perfection and combined with this beautiful bouquet, I’m already pinning away to my heart’s desire. Robert And Kathleen captured this NYC rooftop celebration and you can join me as I ooh and aah over at the gallery for at least a couple more hours.

From Robert & Kathleen Photographers... It was a running joke for a while among Abtin’s family and friends that his apartment was relatively empty. For a number of years after he purchased it, the place had only the bare essentials, furniture-wise. That wasn’t just due solely to Abtin’s busy schedule nor did it represent any lack of interest in furniture on Abtin’s part. In fact, Abtin was very interested in finding pieces that would complete his home. He just wanted to make sure they were the perfect pieces. He’s not one for impulse purchases. Each one would be picked with thought and care.

Abtin was very much the same way when it came to finding the right woman. He wasn’t one to jump from relationship to relationship. He wanted someone kind and generous, someone who shared his passion to help others. If she also happened to be drop-dead gorgeous, so much the better. Then he met Elsa. She was everything he could have ever wanted and so much more. With a heart as big as her smile, she changed his life from the moment they met. Pretty soon, his apartment (and his life) was decidedly more full.

Maybe part of Abtin’s hesitation about furnishing his apartment wasn’t just about finding the right pieces. It was about finding the right partner. He knew that he wanted to share his life, share his home, with someone special. And when Elsa came along, it all felt right. They found the perfect pieces of furniture from their home together and every time they used each piece they would think about the adventure they had picking it out. They were no longer just objects, but memories.

Elsa & Abtin exchanged vows in an emotional ceremony officiated by her brother during which there was probably not a dry eye in the room (including ours). The kind of love these two share is raw and powerful and their happiness is contagious. It was clear that all of their guests felt lucky to be there to celebrate such a remarkable couple and we felt honored to have been there to capture it all.

Elegant New York City Rooftop Wedding

Toasting your new nuptials while overlooking all of Manhattan seems like something out of a movie, and that’s exactly the vibe you feel looking through these stunning photos by Karen Hill. This wedding, brought to life by Daughter Of Design, is bursting at the seams with joy and you can’t help but fall in love with this adorable couple, watching Hello Super Studios‘ film and soaking up every smile in this gallery.

From Karen Hill Photography… Rumi and Rei’s wedding ceremony took place a week earlier in Tokyo, Japan. The groom, Rei, is a New Yorker and met Rumi while working in Japan. (He’s from NYC and is half Japanese). Their friends and families traveled to both events and the party just continued! Talk about colliding cultures, jet lag and language barriers; it was amazing.

There are so many things to love about this wedding party – the gorgeous relaxed decor, the flowers, happy people, the adorable couple, the groom’s father singing and playing guitar in a band as a surprise to the couple, (total surprise!) and the amazing story of love across the world.

How fitting to have their cocktail party on top of the world at Le Parker Meridian Estrella Penthouse in NYC with the most incredible view of the city and Central Park. Such a great love story!

Central Park + West Village Engagement Session

I’ve only been to NYC a few times, and I’ve not once gotten the chance to enjoy either Central Park or West Village, unfortunately. So today, I’m living vicariously through these two cuties captured by Judy Pak in the form of their adorable love sesh that has me determined to visit both these lovely spots. It’s official, they’re on the list, but for now, this sweet gallery will surely do.

From the beautiful Bride…Hery and I met the summer of 2010 working at an overnight summer camp in Maryland. Seeing Hery passionately work for this ministry testified to his character, and we became close friends between the basketball and gymnastics lessons, campfires, silly games and songs. Our friendship grew into a steadfast love, and we embarked on our dating journey. After several years of long distance as we finished up our education and various internships, our careers finally lead us both to the beautiful city of Philadelphia.

Hery, a pediatric nurse, proposed on Christmas morning after working the night shift before. His sleepiness could not contain his enthusiasm, however, as I pulled out a bespoke mug from my stocking. Engraved on the mug, he had quoted my favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice: “You must allow me to tell you how ardently I love and admire you,” and on the reverse side, it read, “Will you marry me, Christine?” I turned around to find him on one knee with a little, blue box in his hand and the most genuine smile lighting up his face. Obviously, I cried and somehow murmured out “Yes!”

Choosing where to have our e-session was one of the easiest decisions we’ve made in the wedding planning process. The iconic New York City boasts hundreds of gorgeous locations and is the beloved childhood home of my fiancé, Hery. We selected the background of Central Park because of the juxtaposition between the lush foliage and the fabulous city views and the West Village for its cozy coffee shops – our favorite date day activity! Although the forecast called for thunderstorms, we braved the weather and were rewarded with the dreamiest lighting! Judy was wonderful in making us feel comfortable and capturing our love for each other on film. We will cherish this experience forever and cannot wait to take our wedding day photos!

Rustic

From All Who Wander Event Design… The focus on this wedding from the start was family, food, and fun. The small town of Roxbury, NY provided the perfect backdrop for Andrew + Nicole’s wedding weekend. From Friday through Sunday guests stayed in a local, themed hotel, setting the tone right from the start. The wedding took place at The Roxbury Barn, the perfect rustic location for N+A’s nuptials. The ceremony was nestled in a pine grove where guests were surrounded by hundreds of trees and serenaded by an acoustic guitar. The cocktail hour took place on the hilltop with 360 degree views of the Catskill Mountains. Then, dinner took place under the stars and they danced the night away inside the barn. Nicole’s vision from the start was to play off of all of the green surrounding the barn. All Who Wander Event Design set out to make that happen using wooden farm tables, white florals, and gray and gold accents that created a refined rustic celebration.

Whimsical Summer Wedding at Highlands Country Club

From The Bride… Even before Matt and I got engaged, we always wondered where we would have our wedding given that our families are 3 hours apart. We came up with the idea of getting married somewhere between our two families to make it convenient and also have the opportunity to explore a new area. Once we got engaged, we stuck to that idea and looked at a bunch of venues between Long Island and Albany, NY. When we came across Highlands Country Club in Garrison, we knew immediately that it was the clear winner. It had everything we could have hoped for – a charming, intimate feel with so many gorgeous, easy-going details, and an absolutely stunning outside veranda. It was perfect for us and set the tone so well for the rustic chic theme we had in mind.

Once we booked Highlands Country Club everything fell into place in terms of our décor and little details. Since we were getting married in June, we wanted to keep the color scheme very light and whimsical with pops of beautiful soft corals and pinks. For our wedding inspiration, we looked to Martha Stewart and the beautiful real weddings on Style Me Pretty to come up with the little ideas we knew we wanted to try. Throughout the months of our wedding prep we always tried to keep it simple and fun, focusing on just a few things at a time so that it never got too overwhelming. With the help of our amazing vendors and a few exciting DIY projects, everything we imagined seemed to fall into place so effortlessly. As our wedding drew closer, one of the most rewarding parts of the planning was seeing all of our details come together in a way that was even better than we had pictured it. From the intimate, happy setting to the light-hearted, fun feel, everything really felt perfect. Our wedding was everything we hoped it would be and so much more.

A Regal Birthday Brunch

If you ever thought you couldn’t have a Birthday Brunch that was glamorous, well think again. Makini of Makini Regal Designs and Lauren of Elle’s Couture Events planned and designed this soiree that is fit for a queen. From the gold details to the bright pops of fresh autumn color, this celebration photographed by Amy Anaiz Photography puts drama back in brunch. Check out the rest of the celebration right here.

From Amy Anaiz … To celebrate both Makini’s birthday as well as the bounty of the season, Makini of Makini Regal Designs and Lauren of Elle’s Couture Events planned and designed the perfect brunch for twelve special guests at Dorsett, an intimate gathering space in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn NY. They created this fall-inspired, glam tablescape using a rich palette of ivory, gold, orange and a pop of teal.

Makini designed lush, over-the-top floral centerpieces that wowed the guests upon arrival and created a dramatic focal point for the space. Ivory sequins linen and gold and cream chargers from BBJ Linen, paired with ghost chairs with custom monogram decals by LBV Designs, brought this tablescape to life while keeping it fresh, minimal and modern. Pear accents were also incorporated at each place setting as a pop of seasonal flair. Lauren hand dipped each pear in a gleaming, crushed glass glitter for just the right amount of opulence.

Each guest took home the sparking pears as a keepsake. Gold menu cards, done by Royale Amethyst, were also added to complete each place settings. From the signature cocktail to the decadent brunch menu, Chef Mike Valli infused pear flavors that left guests wanting more. Gone are the days of pumpkin filled tables. This fall-inspired, glam tablescape will make you savor the splendor of fall.

From The Bride…We have been together for years and known each other even longer (since we were ten years old – Matt proposed on the steps of our former high school!). For us, the most important part of the day was to celebrate our love surrounded by our closest family and friends. We wanted the look and feel of the wedding to be elegant and romantic, but also comfortable and cozy.

The Roundhouse was the first and only venue we visited. It had just the right raw, expansive atmosphere that we thought would contrast well with the soft and romantic feel we wanted. We knew what we wanted, but we couldn’t have executed it without Matthew Robbins and his incredible team. They created a perfect balance between the romance and the old industrial, using soft flowers, elegant tableware, and lighting that felt like the open sky on a star filled night. Sam Spano created an amazing copper chuppah, which our friends and family decorated during the ceremony with flowers and candles. The beautiful trellises now stand in our parents’ gardens, as a special reminder of the day. We couldn’t feel luckier to have been surrounded by such amazing professionals that day. We are so thankful to Lauren, Charlotte, and everyone at the Roundhouse.

We were so lucky to have had a designer, planner and photographer who made us feel at ease and enthusiastic about every step. We actually miss being in contact with all of them because they made the wedding planning process so enjoyable. We are so happy with how warm the room felt that night. We know that the beautiful design work contributed to that feel – and the support and loving vibes of our family and friends didn’t hurt either. The whole day felt like a dream – it was more exceptional than we ever could have imagined.

Elegant Tappan Hill Mansion Wedding

Speaking from experience, I can 100% relate to this Bride in her admission of having a tough time finding the perfect venue. We too struggled in finding our beautiful spot. But once you do, all the hard work and time spent searching, pays off—and this Tappan Hill Mansion soiree is proof. With a handful of fab vendors including Stacie FordDiana Gould Ltd. and Village Invites, we’ve got a whole lotta pretty to feast our eyes on from Tory Williams.

From the beautiful Bride…Mike and I met our very first week at Colgate University, when we moved into the same freshman dorm, and were almost instantly an item. After years of mixers, tailgates, a semester abroad, and one brief break, we both found ourselves living in New York City. Three years later, Mike proposed one Saturday in April while watching the sun set on a pier overlooking the Hudson River. After a romantic dinner, Mike led me to a nearby bar to find our friends waiting to surprise me and celebrate our engagement!

I admittedly had a very difficult time with finding the perfect wedding venue. We searched near and far, from beach locales to rustic upstate sites. We ended up choosing one of the very first venues we visited: Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, New York. The former summer home of Mark Twain, the stone mansion is stately and elegant within a natural, picturesque setting overlooking the Hudson River. With a fabric-draped ceiling, the stone-walled ballroom felt intimate within the grand estate, and the large terrace provided the perfect spot for the ceremony and cocktail hour. It was also fitting that the venue was located exactly in between each of our hometowns, mine in Connecticut and Mike’s in New Jersey – a perfect site for the joining of our families.

And so the planning began for our August wedding the following summer. As luck would have it, the day was sunny and unseasonably cool, allowing for the perfect outdoor ceremony. An indoor-outdoor cocktail hour followed, with guests spilling out onto the terrace to watch the sunset with our signature cocktail in hand, while an acoustic guitar player provided background music. The reception was in the mansion’s indoor ballroom with Hank Lane’s Marcus Reid Band playing until the end of the night. A sparkler send-off gave us the picture-perfect ending to the most beautiful day!

I chose a color scheme of soft blush pink, grey and gold, which our florist Diana Gould carried through the bouquets, ceremony décor, and centerpieces. The flowers included peach Juliet garden roses, white roses, dahlias and hydrangeas, and seeded eucalyptus. The ceremony aisle was lined with polished nickel lanterns in various sizes, with two matching floral arrangements in large urns flanking us at the end. We wanted to keep the ceremony décor simple so that the view was the focal point! In the ballroom, we alternated high and low centerpieces on each table, accented with mercury glass vases and votives. The bridesmaids’ light peach chiffon dresses perfectly matched the Juliet garden roses and added to the soft garden vibe. Touches of grey were carried throughout all of the paper products, provided by Village Invites. Our invitations, menus, programs and welcome cards were all printed on white paper with charcoal grey text, some with a subtle floral motif in the corners to add a bit of whimsy.

We are forever indebted to our incredible team of vendors, including Tory Williams who beautifully captured the day with her photographs. Her images are both timeless and candid, and she captured a joyous timeline of the day that will allow us to relive our wedding for years to come! To all of those future brides-to-be, make sure not to sweat the minor details. In the end, the day is about your marriage and that is where the focus should be. As my now-husband had told me during my most hectic days of planning, the day will be perfect no matter what – and he was right!

From Shadi Boulos Photography…”The Perfect Pairing”. One of my greatest joys is sharing one of life’s special moments with close friends. A few months ago, my friend Tony approached me to help him with a wonderful proposal idea for his girlfriend, Sherry. Both Tony and Sherry share an appreciation for cooking and dining out. There’s no other way of saying it – they love food. Over the course of their relationship, Tony and Sherry dined out a lot and there were a select few meals that left an impression on them. So, Tony’s proposal idea: Tony contacted restaurants in Jersey City, New York, Detroit, and Los Angeles where they had their most memorable meals to compile a book of recipes containing his and Sherry’s favorite dishes. The restaurants loved the idea! Not only that, but Tony commissioned me to photograph some of the dishes he chose to include in the cookbook.

Tony and I worked hard to keep Sherry unsuspecting. You see, Sherry and I previously planned to do a photo session of her donning a beautiful ivory tulle skirt by up-and-coming designer, Alexandra Grecco. What Sherry didn’t know is that these photos were also to be her engagement pictures! As far as Sherry knew, Tony “reluctantly” agreed to make an appearance in some of the photos. I met the couple at The High Line in New York City where they had their first NY date, and where Tony had planned the proposal.

Tony decided that he wanted to propose to Sherry privately, so I called the couple and pretended I was running late. With a basket of “props” in hand, the scene was set for Tony to propose.

As they “waited for me to arrive,” Tony suggested to go through the props, which included the cookbook, a bottle of champagne, two champagne flutes, and a beautiful diamond ring. Upon seeing the book, Sherry said “Oh, Shadi got us a cookbook to take photos with!” As she started flipping the pages, Sherry slowly came to the realization that all of the restaurants were ones she’s been to before and that the recipes were some of their favorites. She continued until the last recipe; a recipe for their story:

The Perfect Pairing

[dotted]

For the Michigan girl:

  • 1 package of Canadian Bacon
  • ¾ cup of Yellow Maize
  • Bake in California sun for 2 years

For the Jersey guy:

  • 4 blocks of Swiss Chocolate
  • 2 cups of Kenyan coffee beans
  • Heat in a Jersey City melting pot

ONE | Thoroughly whisk 1 Michigan girl and 1 Jersey guy at a destination wedding in California for 5 hours. Follow by seasoning with countless hours of Facetime.

TWO | To add in East Coast flavor, move mixture to Jersey City. In a saucepan over low heat, pour in 2 unhealthy obsessions with food, 1 instant camera, 50 new friends and a generous amount of love.

THREE | Let sit until the 27th of September. When ready, add the following: 1 tulle skirt, 2 champagne flutes and 1 fake cookbook. Cover entire recipe with an abundance of God’s blessings. Top with 1 diamond ring.

FOUR | Propose and serve.

As she finished reading the final recipe, she looked up to see Tony down on one knee. After many tears and a resounding “YES,” I arrived to photograph the newly engaged couple.

I took them to one of my favorite locations and began photographing. The beautiful scenery, Sherry’s stunning outfit, and their happiness made for an outstanding proposal session.

From The Bride…To say that I was completely surprised is an understatement. While Tony was busy planning behind the scenes, I was under the impression that should a proposal happen, it wouldn’t be for several months given our families travel schedules and the desire to have both our families be together on that special day. On that particular Saturday, Tony’s father was “out of the country” so a trip to the High Line in a beautiful tulle skirt, and with Tony dressed to the nines, didn’t raise me any suspicions.

There’s no other way to describe Tony’s proposal idea as anything short of perfection; there was no detail left unplanned. And afterwards, while doing a proposal photo-shoot with Shadi, I’ll never forget that feeling I had looking up at Tony of just true joy and an overwhelming amount of love. The entire day – from the most perfect proposal, the beautiful photo shoot with the talented Shadi Boulos, a delicious 7-course dinner at Per Se, and a surprise late night celebratory dessert and champagne with both of our families – is what every girl dreams of, and is what will always serve to remind me how beyond blessed I am to have found someone like Tony.

Romantic Gramercy Park Hotel Wedding

I love New York! I might be biased since this wedding takes place in my old neighborhood, but in my humble opinion it doesn’t get better than a Bride wearing Amsale at the Gramercy Park Hotel. The talented Sasithon Photography was behind the lens snapping up a gallery filled with family tradition and classic New York moments that’ll have you scrolling for more here!

From The Bride…We wanted a classic and romantic New York wedding where everyone felt like they were at a great dinner party with friends and family. Our wedding took place atop the Gramercy Park Hotel which was a perfect and stunning venue. We loved the indoor/outdoor feel of the rooftop with the lush, green garden and the wraparound terrace that was lined with candlelit lanterns and candles. The venue has a lot of world class art that created pops of color as well as a light bulb room which added a lot of dimension to the space. To match the vibrant décor we worked with flower designer, Denise Fasanello, who created beautiful flower arrangements and amazing bouquets of cream, light pink and green that complimented the space beautifully.

We also had an incredible photographer, Sasithon Pooviriyakul, who truly understood our vision for the wedding and captured so many beautiful moments of our wedding day. To recognize Kai’s family’s Chinese tradition we had a tea ceremony right after the wedding ceremony. The parents and elders were served cups of tea while giving well wishes to us through gifts of gold jewelry and money. It was a special time to recognize the family members that will continue to guide and support our marriage. Food was an important component for us because we love to cook and eat. So many of our favorite moments has been traveling to new cities or finding a new restaurant in the city.

We decided on a four course meal focused on seasonal local ingredients. We also loved our signature drink, a blood orange jalapeño margarita which was perfect for summer! The tables were set up during cocktail hour with a dramatic reveal of the seating which was dotted with beautiful flowers and candles. It truly was the best dinner party of our lives!

Elegant Beach Wedding in Bridgehampton, New York

If this elegant seaside soiree was around when I was getting married, It would have inspired my entire wedding. Seriously. Because to me, this gallery is perfect. With a coastal yet sophisticated vibe (not to mention one seriously cute pup), every image beautifully captured by Charlotte Jenks Lewis defines beach chic, and you can see even more here.

From The Bride…The first thing we knew we wanted for our wedding was to have it on the very same beach in Bridgehampton, New York where we got engaged in May 2012 and where we often walk our dog Noodles. We found a perfect beachfront venue just a few feet away — Outdoor ceremony on the beach! Ocean views from the dance floor! — and we quickly locked it down. Shortly thereafter, Hurricane Sandy absolutely decimated the place, leaving our venue a sad construction zone. But with some regular monitoring of the construction progress (read: useless stressing), it was repaired and looked better than ever by the time our wedding day rolled around. And thankfully, the weather fully cooperated that day, so Mother Nature and I are back on good terms.

For our decor, we went with a fall theme for our October wedding with mostly ivory and eggplant colors. We had an amazing and creative florist who indulged all of my crazy ideas — like having edible elements in the centerpieces, branches hanging from the ceiling, and turning the entrance hall into a full-on forest. Her end product was 100 times better than my original “vision” so trust your vendors!

Our main priority for the cocktail hour and reception was probably the food! When I told the caterer about my love of all things miniature, he went above and beyond by making mini versions of all our favorite foods. Mini burgers paired with mini beers, mini tacos paired with mini margaritas, you name it and it was mini. We still talk about the food!
