Enchanted Garden Engagement Party Inspiration

I’m jealous of all the NYC ladies out there, having The Kitchen Table so close by to host events. A gorgeous space with unlimited possibilities, and the best part? When it’s time to clean up, you just head home. But I’ve a feeling I’d never want to actually leave an engagement party like this, captured by Orange Blossom Photography. With all this pretty, I’d be quite happy staying put for quite awhile.

From Orange Blossom PhotographyThis photo shoot will inspire you to bring the charming simplicity of a garden indoors to your table for an intimate engagement party. We took a few style cues from The Great Gatsby with our gold dress choice, and the styling of our drinks. We did a dress change to show an even more light and feminine option.

We focused on the details of showing this new space in New York as an enchanted, yet glamorous, place for a bride-to-be to host an intimate engagement party. We wanted to take the rustic element of the reclaimed wooden table and chairs, and show how you can make it feminine and glamorous. We used elements of gold and textured one-of-a-kind dishes trays and chargers to bring this space to life. We used pale peach flowers and bold bright pink flowers to add femininity to the rustic and masculine space.

The green floral garland running down the length of the table was a key element in the table design by Judy. It softens the space. We decided to create another dimension to the table by making the hanging garland above the table. It really brings the outdoors in. We like the idea of hanging garland instead of building large arrangements on a table which make it harder for people to talk across a table. This helps the environment stay intimate, yet visually interesting. The slice of cake is styled with blackberries to further show the idea of a delicate and pretty environment. Small plates of bite sized food are featured so you can see another aspect of delicate and detail oriented food styling that Judy Kim can do for you at The Kitchen Table NYC.

All of the delicate florals were hand created by Judy Kim, of the Judy Lab. She was also the amazing food stylist. Our two glamorous dresses are by Lovely Bride in Tribecca. Our beautiful and petite delicious cake was created by Amy, owner at the Sugar Flower Cake Shop in Manhattan. Our amazing models hair and makeup look was stunningly created by Stacey Weinstein and her team at Once Upon A Bride. Our classic stationery was custom made by Supattra Samanyaphon of The Printery in Oyster Bay, Long Island.

The Kitchen Table NYC, features an intimate space where you hire your own chef to prepare a custom meal or hours d’oeuvres for your guests. Our goal was to make the space feel enchanted and feminine and bring the outdoors in.

Casually Elegant Brooklyn Engagement Session

Isn’t this just the cutest couple ever? From her tulle skirt to this groom-to-be’s dapper look, they have adorable all figured out. Brklyn View Photography was lucky enough to hang out with them one morning and hit up some of Brooklyn and NYC’s best picture taking spots, and we’re the lucky ones that get to see every snapshot and smile.

From Brklyn View Photography… I’m excited to submit Cara and Rob’s super cute Brooklyn engagement session for your kind consideration. I absolutely love Cara’s blush tulle skirt and Rob’s dapper style. They are one stylish couple!

On a bright fall morning, I met Cara and Rob at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge for their engagement session. Cara told me over the phone that her and Rob don’t really do “casual” so when she showed up in an adorable blush colored tutu, I was super excited! Aren’t they the sweetest? We walked around DUMBO, visited the Brooklyn Bridge before heading over to the Manhattan to end their engagement session in the West Village. The happy couple are getting married in South Carolina and wanted their engagement photos to be in the city where they fell in love. They love to laugh and make each other smile which clearly comes out in their gorgeous photos. I’m so thrilled I could be part of their love story and wish them a lifetime of love and happiness!

Romantic Central Park Boathouse Wedding

We get a double treat today m’dears with not one, but two, CLY BY MATTHEW romantic weddings. We soaked up some modern romance at Studio 405 this morning and now this summer celebration here not only has us dreaming of sunny skies ahead but warms our hearts with just one glance at these two lovebirds. NYC is the magical picture perfect place today and I’m loving every bit of it.

From Matthew & Bo Of CLY BY MATTHEWThis is a beautiful, classic and romantic wedding at the Central Park Boathouse.

The Bride wanted to incorporate many family elements in her details. The candlesticks used were given from her great-grandmother, the wine glass belonged to her great-grandparents and even the chuppah was made with her great-grandmother’s table cloth.

The general theme of the day was “from generation to generation,” celebrating the people who came before them.

Modern + Romantic New York City Wedding

I’m not surprised that this beautiful Bride is an interior designer; she has quite an eye. With the gorgeous florals by Occasion 9 spread throughout Studio 405, this modern venue becomes uber romantic and the perfect backdrop for this stylish love fest. Matthew and Bo of CLY BY MATTHEW snapped up every NYC moment and every morning would be better starting out with pretty pics like these.

From Matthew & Bo of CLY BY MATTHEWKaren and David’s wedding was a perfect NYC wedding.

Their apartment with a beautiful NYC skyline view was just a few blocks away from The Empire State Building and their reception venue, Studio 450. Karen got ready at the Gramercy Park Hotel with its beautiful romantic decor. Her details were all so gorgeous and stylish. From her beautiful organic bouquet and her invitations with calligraphy to her vintage-inspired ring.

Karen and David really wanted to incorporate all the beautiful historical locations in NYC for their wedding photo shoot. They even rented a vintage cab to go around the city to take pictures, which was such a cute idea.

After the ceremony, we stopped by Central Park for bridal party pictures, and then Karen and David also stopped by the New York Public Library for few pictures alone. When we got to Studio 450, they even let us up the rooftop to get more pictures of the skyline of NYC.

The bride is an interior designer, and she had impeccable taste in what she wanted for her wedding day. Her wedding was chic, romantic and modern! The floral arrangements were stunning, and the dessert bar was set up perfectly. The rest of the night was full of fun and dancing!

Eclectic Travel Themed Montauk Wedding

I am a little in love with this next duo. So much so that we wanted to share their so-cute-so-ME rehearsal dinner before we dove head first into their even more lovely wedding. And not just because the main event is an ice cold margarita and a really good looking fish taco. But because the photographs from Heather Waraksa are so stinking cute, we are only sad we couldn’t be there ourselves!

From the bride…We knew that we didn’t want a traditional rehearsal dinner, so we decided to do a more casual welcome party where everyone would be able to attend. Something that was particularly unusual was the mariachi band at the welcome party at La Brisa. They were fantastic and made it such a lively event! We also made sure that our guests were able to get to know Montauk, so on Saturday we arranged for paddle board lessons, tastings at a local brewery, and a screening of one of our favorite films at the local movie theater.

***

And now for the wedding. The picture perfect, cuddle up with the gorgeous blankets that the couple gifted, so personal and yet so ridiculously elegant wedding photographed to utter perfection by Heather Waraksa. Complete with a momofuku cake and a bouquet dressed with 100 year-old blue ribbon from the bride’s great-grandfather’s flower shop. I told you it was a keeper. And there is SO much more right here!

From the beautiful Bride… My gown was from Valentino Resort 2013 and I had seen it on Style.com. I’ve always known that I did not want a traditional wedding dress and that it didn’t particularly have to be white. I made several appointments at bridal salons, but on a whim I decided to go to Valentino with my mother before to see if they had the dress. When we arrived and showed them the picture of the white dress with green beads they said they didn’t have that one, but they did have a version in pink. However, when they went into the back they came out with a surprise. They had just gotten the green dress in, in one size too big for me! We were ecstatic! The salesperson said it was the only one made for stores in America and it had literally just arrived so they didn’t know they had it. I tried it on and instantly knew it was meant to be. I did however, then call my maid of honor and father to see it for final approval. It was truly a work of art and I felt so happy and like myself (but better) in it. I bought it just a few weeks after getting engaged. I then found a perfect pair of Valentino white, rock-stud wedges on eBay which were comfortable and matched perfectly. I love the dress so much, I just had it hemmed a bit so I can wear it again!

About the wedding: We wanted the wedding to be a whole weekend of fun. We actually started planning the wedding in Brooklyn where we live, but realized we would prefer to have our closest friends and family stay with us and for everyone to be together for as long as possible. After a bit of searching, we decided on Montauk because it was accessible from NYC, but felt like a destination. Ruschmeyer’s was perfect because we were able to get rooms on the property for all of our family and close friends.

As for the wedding itself, it was extra special because Todd’s father was able to officiate. We got married under a tent which ended up being very cozy and warm. Everyone was greeted with a glass of prosecco (or two) and with 135 guests, it felt very intimate.

The food was definitely very special. As a former event planner and an always foodie, I knew that we didn’t want typical wedding fare. Chef Roy Wohlars at Ruschmeyer’s really did an amazing job. Each of the four courses was absolutely delicious and the food was abundant. He prides himself on focusing on local ingredients and everything was exceptional without being fussy. We served dinner family-style so everyone could get a bite of everything. I am still getting e-mails about how much people enjoyed the experience of eating at our wedding!

What made it unique: Making the wedding personal was extremely important to us. We tried to incorporate as much of our personal style and values in to the wedding as possible. During the ceremony, besides the fact that my father-in-law married us, Todd and I each recited song lyrics that were meaningful to us as our vows.

We were also able to incorporate some 100 year-old blue ribbon from my great-grandfather’s flower shop into my bouquet. The added bonus was that our florist is only located a few blocks away from where his store was in Brooklyn. We also got married under a chuppah inspired by the flower garlands we saw on our travels around India and Thailand. Travel is a big part of our lives; I own a travel business and Todd used to be a pilot. We also moved to Paris for a bit, so I was also set on having a croquembouche (a traditional French wedding confection) at the wedding and was thinking of forgoing a cake. Luckily, Momofuku’s Milk Bar has both, so in addition to our wedding cake, we had a tower of birthday cake truffles, for a bit of Paris meets Brooklyn.

Going along with our love of travel, we were able to take our wedding portraits at the Montauk Airport–a place Todd used to fly into regularly when he was a pilot. It was really special to incorporate his love of aviation into our wedding. It’s a tiny air field, so luckily there were several planes parked there for the day, so we got some amazing shots.

We also knew it could get a little chilly in Montauk in the evening, so as a give away we ordered these fantastic, colorful Mexican blankets. I may have ordered a bit too many, but I have friends that I think took 4 or 5 home with them! I am constantly seeing them at friends’ homes and even in pictures on social media, so it’s nice to know everyone could take a little piece of the weekend home with them.

A memorable moment: I knew the whole day would fly by and consciously tried to stop a few times in the evening to take it all in. My greatest memory was just being on the dance floor, dancing up storm with my husband while looking around and thinking, “Wow, I really love all of these people!”

Their engagement story: Todd and I met in April of 2005 at a bar in St. Louis. We were both students at Washington University and this bar was a popular Tuesday night destination for the college set. I was taking a photography class and was a little behind on a project, so I brought my camera to take pictures. The assignment was “action shots” and when a cute senior guy came over to help me take pictures, I could not refuse. However, when I went to develop the pictures (yes, in a dark room), I realized they were all of some other guy who I didn’t know. The next week I saw that guy from the pictures at a party and his name was Todd. We started dating and Todd graduated 6 weeks later. He moved back to LA and I went home to New York for the summer. He came to visit me and we stayed together through my junior year abroad in London and then my senior year when I was back in St. Louis. Finally, as luck would have it, Todd moved to Brooklyn with the band he was in at the time and I moved to the East Village for graduate school. We moved in together in 2009 in Williamsburg, then went to Paris for a summer and came back to New York. After almost 9 years of being together, on October, 31st 2013 Todd proposed. He asked me to meet him at a subway stop in Brooklyn and he had prepared a whole picnic that we were to bring to Brooklyn Bridge Park. I was completely oblivious to the plan and was not expecting anything, after all it was Halloween. Unbeknownst to me, he had previously gone to the park and picked a spot, which was auspiciously the same spot another couple had chosen to have their wedding that day. So when he insisted we sit and picnic next to this wedding, again I didn’t think anything of it. I was pretty shocked when he asked if I would marry him and took out a gorgeous ring he had designed using my grandmother’s diamond from her engagement. We then went out for dinner and champagne.

Words of wisdom: Try not to worry too much about the details, rather pick great vendors and work with people you love. Grab coffee with them, chat with them, make sure they get you. Our planners, Mayra and Xochitl were so much fun to work with and it made everything easier knowing they knew us and understood what we wanted. Same goes for our photographer, Heather Waraksa who was incredibly easy to work with and we knew her style was what we were looking for, so anything she did would be great. Amy Febinger and her team really took our (sometimes crazy) ideas for floral arrangements and made them into a reality. Overall, it was about the right people and the details will fall into place.

Modern Brooklyn Bridge Engagement Shoot

With a love story straight out of the movies, it’s only fitting that this gorgeous couple chose one of New York City’s most iconic locations for their picture-perfect engagement shoot. Walking hand-in-hand from DUMBO across the Brooklyn Bridge, Brian and Janet looked every bit the part, as photographer Kat Harris captured every amazing moment here!

From the Kat HarrisBrian lived in Pittsburgh and Janet was editor of Verily Magazine in New York City. Brian’s sister decided to play matchmaker, and told him about this amazing gal in the city. Soon after he bought a flight to NYC to meet this gal (I know it sounds like a movie right…but it gets better). Their first date went so well, that they decided to have date two the whole next day. It’s safe to say by the end of the weekend their romance was in full swing. For months they were long distance, flying back and forth to visit each other, and then Brian proposed. Brian and Janet are two of the sweetest people, and are getting married this fall. It was such a gift to spend the afternoon in DUBMO with them, I mean honestly…how cute are they?

Romantic + Timeless New York City Fall Wedding

Tradition and elegance are always wise choices and this beautiful Bride took these classics and created a masterpiece, saying her vows at the very church her new husband’s grandparents were baptized at. But considering she spends her days working at Jimmy Choo, some chic style wasn’t far away either. See every sparkling second, captured by Mademoiselle Fiona and McKenzie Miller Films, right this way!

From the beautiful Bride… New York City. It’s the city where we fell in love, where we had our first apartment together, and where my now husband (!!) Anthony proposed. We knew it would make for both a memorable and fun wedding weekend for both our families and friends.

Teissia Treynet of Firefly Events put our ideas into reality creating a timeless, romantic, old New York garden-style wedding. It’s thanks to SMP that I stumbled upon her and instantly fell in love with her amazing style. She helped us to create a unique combination of both modern and vintage and ensured the day was flawless.

Fashion plays a big part in my life working as an Account Executive at Jimmy Choo, and I knew for my dress I had to go directly to the source of wedding fashion, Monique Lhuillier. I fell in love at a trunk show with her Adele gown, which was a fitted, trumpet silhouette made from french lace, tulle and intricate pearl beading. It featured a beautiful open back and illusion neckline which made the classic silhouette more modern. I added a flowy, tulle veil with lace appliques to give it a more romantic but traditional feel. My bouquet was soft, filled with an array of garden roses, white sweet pea, ranunculus, lilac, anemones and soft greenery.

Tradition was important to us both as we planned our day, which is why we chose to be married at Saint Anthony’s Church in Soho. The beautiful, historic church is not only the first Italian parish in Manhattan, but is also where Anthony’s grandparents were baptized. The church itself is stunning with its cathedral ceilings, stained glass windows and a pipe organ. Garlands of magnolia leaves were draped the entire length of the aisle to tie back to our idea of lush greenery. The altar was anchored with beautiful arrangements in mercury glass urns. We did not see each other prior to the wedding, which made walking down the long aisle that much more special. Following the nuptials and traditional vows, we gathered all our ceremony guests for a fun, vintage style wedding photo on the steps of the church.

As a Bride, you are likely in control of almost all the details that go into your wedding. Weather, being the exception. When we chose our venue of TriBeCa Rooftop, we fell in love with the breathtaking views of the city and the idea of a rooftop cocktail hour. I relentlessly checked the weather the week leading up to the big day, and to my disappointment our forecast was for rain. While I know this superstitiously means good luck, I knew we would have to go with plan B, an indoor cocktail hour. The morning of October 4th poured, and I was surprisingly calm. Luckily, as my father and I got into our vintage car to head to church, the sky had cleared and was now a beautiful shade of pink. It was truly magical and made for spectacular skyline views on the roof! Words of wisdom NYC brides, have a rain plan!

Rebecca Shepherd Floral Designs transformed the modern TriBeCa space to a warm, romantic and inviting space with soft, beautiful arrangements, lush greenery, unique vessels, and more candles, hurricanes and lanterns than one should ever light. To warm up the space, we hung string cafe lights across the length of the dance floor. For our tablescapes, I fell in love with the idea of having a few different arrangements on the tables to create some dimension in the room and make things more intimate. We kept the color scheme neutral and timeless with touches of white, ivory, blush and green accompanied by silver mercury glass. For our head table where we sat alongside our bridal party, we had a stunning runner made with greenery and pops of white and blush blooms. We chose classic style place settings with art deco flatware, calligraphed escort cards, and tied our menus with lace ribbons and olive branch sprigs.

Music was also important to us and we believe it sets the mood of any party. One of the first vendors hired was the phenomenal Groove Shop Band, who truly kept our guests on the dance floor the entire night with a set list filled with a great mix of our favorite oldies, love songs and modern hits. Our first dance was to “I Belong to You,” by Lenny Kravitz. Later in the evening, to our pleasant surprise, our cousins’ arranged for extra special guests, The Gipsy Kings! Their Spanish infused salsa style turned our dance floor into a frenzy and truly was one of the most memorable moments of the day!

Mademoiselle Fiona and McKenzie Miller Films were there to capture the day and provide us with beautiful, lasting memories of both the planned and unexpected events.

Behind the Scenes with Carolina Herrera

When you get a chance to meet THE Carolina Herrera during New York Bridal Market, you say yes and break out into a happy dance. She’s a true legend in the fashion industry, so when SMP was offered the chance to sit down one-on-one with the designer behind some of our most beloved gowns, we brought our A-game plus Rebecca Yale Photography to give you, dear readers, an exclusive first-hand look.

As I walked into Carolina Herrera’s office on 7th Ave., sophistication and elegance reigned supreme. She welcomed us with open arms into her luxe space filled with natural light pouring through every window and each design piece placed just so. We were invited to preview one of the gowns from the Spring 2016 collection, and needless to say, We. Were. Stunned. The fitted bodice with chantilly lace along the neckline is the type of detail we’ve come to love from Mrs. Herrera, and the delicate buttons draping down the back into a tiered train was nothing short of perfection.

Carolina was meeting with her Creative Director, Hervé Pierre when we walked in, and they were putting the finishing touches on a gorgeous feather and lace gown for the upcoming collection. The office was filled with gorgeous photos, trinkets, and memento’s – each with their own unique story.

It didn’t take long to feel at total ease as Hervé Pierre told us fun stories behind the pictures, like how at 6-years-old Carolina was photographed in a white dress for her role in Snow White. She looked stern in the picture and when we asked why, Hervé explained it was because she wanted to play the Wicked Witch instead. Well played, Mrs. Herrera.

A lampshade with different memories pinned to it was full of stories, including a photo of the fabric found in Marie Antoinette’s Versaille palace. The story goes that Marie would change the drapes in the palace for every season. This particular pattern was there right before the war, and it’s still there today. Oh, and you can still buy the fabric today – how amazing is that?

It was such an honor to spend some time with Mrs. Herrera, and get a peek inside her glamorous world. Her Spring 2016 collection is sure to be one of the books, and we’ll be covering each and every gown once they hit the runway this weekend. Stay tuned! xoxo

Chic New York City Wedding at Gramercy Park Hotel

How do you compete with the regal elegance of a venue like the Gramercy Park Hotel? With a fabulous Nicole Miller gown and one too cute for words pup. With just a few chic touches and some pretty petals, this fall NYC wedding became outstanding and Robert & Kathleen Photographers is showing it all off with this gorgeous gallery, cute pup and all.

From Robert & Kathleen PhotographersWhen they first struck up a conversation at a crowded midtown Manhattan bar in the spring of 2009, Jean had no idea that she had just met the man she was going to marry.  But there were things that might have tipped her off that the universe was trying to bring them together.  They were both raised in Texas, and in spite of sharing a mutual friend, they didn’t get to know each other until they happened to move to the biggest city in America.  They might have passed one another in the lobby or on the elevator of the office building in which they both happened to work, but they didn’t have their first conversation until they just happened to be in one of the many, many bars in the city.

Even though that first conversation went really well, Jean didn’t think there was much of a future at first because Andy had told her he was moving to LA in just three weeks. He asked for her number anyway and called her several times to ask her to join him for an official first date.  Thankfully, she agreed to go and see where this could lead.

That night, over dinner in the West Village, Jean and Andy made a connection so strong that it ultimately made him decide to postpone his cross-country move for a bit just so he could spend more time with her.  When Andy did finally go to LA, they stayed together and had some fun with the distance – seeing each other every two or three weeks and sometimes meeting in another city they could explore together.  Somewhere over the miles of air travel, long phone calls and adventures together in new cities, they both discovered that they couldn’t live without each other.

Once Andy returned to New York and they started planning their wedding, they decided it had to take place in the city that had brought them together. This past fall, they exchanged vows in the NYC neighborhood they now call home and we feel so honored that we were there to capture the magic of their day with their family, friends and their sweet dog, Tofu.

Central Park Summer Engagement Session

Brklyn View Photography discovered a little secret when they had the privilege of snapping this summertime engagement shoot; hit up NYC’s Central Park at dawn and the place is all yours. With such free reign, it’s all the better to capture the sweet smiles between a newly engaged couple like these two and we’re lucky enough to get a little sneak peek at all the goodness to come for them right here.

From Brklyn View PhotographyWhat happens when you visit Central Park early in the morning on a gorgeous summer day? You practically get the place all to yourself! Crystal and Thomas travel to New York once a year and wanted to incorporate their favorite city into their engagement session.

We walked through the park astounded by its beauty and the quiet. The lack of crowds really gave us room to explore and play in the park. How adorable is Crystal’s “Pride and Prejudice” clutch? Love! It was such a treat photographing this sweet couple for their engagement photos, and I was thrilled to be part of their New York love story. Congratulations Crystal and Thomas!

From the Bride… Shawn and I have a bit of a unique love story. I moved to NYC in the summer of 2010 and was living with two roommates – it just so happened that Shawn was the brother of one of them. Shawn worked out of the apartment so we saw each other every day. One night we went out for pizza, the next day a walk through Central Park, and about two weeks later we started dating and have been together ever since.

From day one, NYC played a huge role in our relationship. We met here, fell in love here, and plan to raise a family here. The city has basically always been the third person in our relationship, so getting married in the city was a natural choice. When we saw the Bryant Park Grill, we knew it was the spot.

From the moment we started planning our wedding, we had two rules: 1) that we wouldn’t take ourselves too seriously, and 2) that it would be a fun party, above all else. To us, that meant being married by one of our best friends, serving the food that we loved, dancing to the music we loved, and being surrounded by the people we loved the most.

Our ceremony took place on the rooftop of the Bryant Park Grill. It was so beautiful with the perfect amount of city and nature. Our friend Jason married us and spoke beautifully about our relationship. We wrote our own vows, which were essentially love letters to each other.

We wanted the day to be filled with lots of personal touches so we ordered cocktail napkins with Beatles lyrics, customized cake toppers, drink signs and straws, cake stands, sparkly linens, and wood table numbers.

Picking the music was the decision we took the most seriously. We’re huge Bruce Springsteen fans, so I walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of “Thunder Road.” For our first dance, we wanted a fast and fun song to get the party started so we chose a live version of “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out” and it did just the trick. For the rest of the night, we played everything from Doo-Wop to cheesy 80’s music to ‘NSYNC to classic rock. Our guests didn’t stop dancing the entire night, which was the goal!

We’re self-deemed foodies who love dessert so we incorporated some of our New York favorites, cookies and a cake bar from Momofuku Bakery and a Coolhaus ice cream truck which was waiting in the park for our guests at the end of the night.

There are many moments from the day that absolutely stand out to me – waking up the morning of the wedding, in bed with my five best friends and walking around Bryant Park at 7:30am because we couldn’t sleep, getting ready with my mom, grandmother, and best friends, seeing my dad for the first time, and dancing so much so that my legs hurt for the first few days of our honeymoon, but the absolute best was when I first saw Shawn outside the NY Public Library during our first look.

I can’t really explain it, but in that moment, it was like no one else existed. As corny as it may sound, from that point on the small details of the day didn’t really matter. I was marrying my best friend, the best person I could have dreamed of. Our wedding was already the best day before it even really began.

Classic New York City Wedding at PUBLIC

After saying their “I do’s,” this Bride and Groom took a walking tour of their own through this city they love, with Dave Robbins snapping up every picture perfect, postcard worthy moment, before they joined their guests at cocktail hour, surrounded by City Blossom’s beauties. There is no denying the Big Apple has a certain special flair about it and these pics are prime proof.

From the Bride… On November 11, 2011, at a small bar on the Upper East Side, Christopher and I met for the first time. Two years later Christopher proposed on the rooftop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Whether dining out, enjoying Central Park or partaking in cultural activities, New York City has always been special to our relationship. From the day we became engaged we knew we wanted to celebrate our wedding with friends and family in the city where we fell in love.

Three things mattered to us when planning our wedding: sharing New York City with our guests, selecting a venue with incredible food, and finding a photographer with the vision to capture their day.

We selected a holiday weekend for our wedding because the majority of our guests were coming in from out of town. To begin the wedding weekend each guest received an I ♥ NY welcome gift bag with local amenities and a specially mapped walking tour of the our neighborhoods. To give our guests a true taste of New York, we spent months selecting the right neighborhoods and restaurants for the wedding, choosing TriBeCa Grill for the rehearsal dinner, The Smith in East Village for brunch, and Nolita and the Michelin Star ranked PUBLIC for our reception.

After interviewing eight photographers, we selected Dave Robbins to capture our special day. On our wedding day we woke up to rainy skies, but by the time the events began, the weather had improved. The bridesmaids joined me for breakfast and hair and make-up in midtown at The New York Palace Hotel. The groomsmen enjoyed straight razor shaves at New York Shaving Company before returning to Le Parker Meridien for burgers at Burger Joint. In the early afternoon, the groomsmen and groom strode down 5th Avenue to the Palace where we had our first look. It was then on to Grand Central Terminal for group portraits.

We were married surrounded by friends and family at All Souls Church, on the same block as their apartment in the Upper East Side. Our guests headed to PUBIC for cocktails and canapés including fried oysters, salmon ceviche and curried lentil spring rolls, while we enjoyed a few moments of serenity on the roofdeck of our apartment building. Before joining our guests at PUBLIC, we revisited the site of our engagement at the Met and even grabbed a quick hot dog on a stroll through Central Park.

In addition to vases of blush and white flowers matching the bridal bouquets, each of the receptions six tables were themed around a different city we had visited, which were important to our relationship. The groom found wire frame sculptures of famous monuments from each city to mark the tables, and I designed a seating chart and acrylic frames with table numbers that provided a description of the city’s significance. Wedding favors were desserts themed from each city – black and white cookies from NYC, lamingtons from Sydney, Georgetown cupcakes from Washington D.C., TCHO chocolates from San Francisco, and Tunnock’s Teacakes from London, all hand wrapped by us.

Following a dinner of venison, tilefish or pappardelle, guests enjoyed mini desserts, cake, and cocktails followed by dancing. To conclude the night, we surprised their friends and family with pizza delivered from Lombardi’s – NYC’s first pizzeria. A truly magical New York experience was had by all.

Elegant Winter Wedding Inspiration at Carnegie Hall

An iconic NYC fixture like Carnegie Hall, in the crisp beauty of winter, is the perfect scene for elegance and romance, so that’s just what Michelle Elaine brought to this shoot, captured by Alexis June. With floral fantasies brought to life by L’Oasis Floral Designs, winter’s chills disappear and we’re surrounded by a blushing Bride and a tablescape that leaves us breathless. See all of this and more right here!

From Michelle Elaine Weddings Inc… Influenced by history, inspired by love. The art of romance is beautiful.

When the opportunity arose to be the first team to create a styled shoot in the newly renovated event space at Carnegie Hall, we were over the moon! With such a beautiful, historic landmark as our backdrop and fresh snow covering the gorgeous terrace, we couldn’t have been more delighted with this winter shoot.

Using Marsala, the pantone color of 2015 as our inspiration, we created a chic palette of blush tones, ruby reds and gorgeous airy greens that influenced every detail in the shoot. Chantilly lace and full layers of tulle dressed our model in elegance, while a custom fit navy suit, with character from head to toe, completed the groom’s tailored look.

Inside, lush hydrangea florals wove their way around vintage place settings and cascaded over our barn wood table to create elegant drama. Upon each plate, a delicately placed card with gorgeous gold calligraphy and champagne cocktails beautifully garnished with thyme and blackberry, pulled the color palette together.

Everything from our luxe wedding cake design from Sylvia Weinstock, to the soft, feminine blush tones in the stationery, seemed to shimmer with beauty and elegance surrounded by historic Carnegie Hall and the quintessential New York City backdrop of Central Park views.

We can’t forget about our adorable addition Sprinkles, dressed in a petite floral collar, bringing delight to our couple and all on the shoot.

Rustic Winter Wedding at Brooklyn Winery

The Big Apple may seem like a crazy alternate universe at times, but there are little cozy gems hidden throughout the city and I’m pretty sure the Brooklyn Winery is one of those. Intimate and romantic, it played host to this rustic wedding and Brian Dorsey and Mint Wedding Cinematography were there to capture every second. Cuddle up with some vino and enjoy this gorgeous gallery below.

From The Bride… Our first date was a very icy, snowy day in New York City and after a few drinks, a lot of butterflies and laughter, Mike walked me home and I fell on the ice! Instead of an embarrassing moment, that moment turned into a sweet meet – cute story that we’ll always remember. I knew immediately what kind of man Mike was and that he’d always take care of me. Fast forward 13 months to a week after I had foot surgery when Mike got down on one knee in our home and asked me to marry him in the most heartfelt and intimate way.

We quickly settled on December 19, as we wanted a winter wedding and it would also commemorate 44 years to the day that my parents were married. We are both tried and true New Yorkers, so we couldn’t imagine saying ‘I do’ anywhere else, and Brooklyn Winery offered us the rustic, beautiful, and intimate venue that we wanted. It was the only venue we looked at.

I am a planner by nature, so I jumped right in. With the help of some fantastic vendors, it was as stress-free as could be. Rachel and Emily at Brooklyn Winery were superb, we found an amazing officiant in Peter Boruchowitz who delivered a personalized, heart-felt and romantic ceremony, and we had gorgeous, lush flowers, branches, lanterns and candles everywhere thanks to the extremely talented Gabrielle Aronas at G! Designs. And finally, Justin at Brian Dorsey Studios (photography) and Chris at Mint Wedding Cinematography delivered beyond our wildest expectations.

December 19 was the quickest but best and happiest day of our lives. Everything was beautiful, perfect, and simply like a dream. We are eternally thankful and in awe of each and every vendor who helped make our day perfect, and of course so grateful to all our family and friends for helping us to create the sweetest memories to last a lifetime.

Whimsical Wedding at Shakespeare on the Hudson

I can already tell I haven’t seen the last of Shakespeare on the Hudson. With its stunning views and great location, it’s the perfect backdrop for beautiful bashes, including this rustic wedding between two self-confessed food lovers. With whimsical nods to their palate passions, a guy + a girl photography had a blast capturing every minute of their celebration. See one of my new favorite spots right this way.

From A Guy + A Girl PhotographySusan and Danny said “I do” on the shores of the Hudson River, overlooking the Bear Mountain Bridge in Catskill, NY. Their sweet celebration incorporated elements of both of their Korean heritage, as well as their passion for food. As they explained to us in our first meeting, “We’re not foodies…we just love to eat!”

Their rustic, whimsical welcome table encouraged guests to contribute to a fingerprint tree in place of a guest book, and featured advice cards, ribbon wands, and a program with their signature wedding animal – two happy pigs! Cocktail hour was a gorgeous array of fresh autumn ideas – bright pink beet dips, adorable mini-carrots and plenty of non-veggie items as well.

The glowstick-lit dance party that followed raged on the dance floor, and a wild time was had by all. An amazing day for an amazing couple!

Modern 4th of July Wedding in New York City

People often ask me what the best part of my job is. After all, it’s all pretty awesome so it must be a tough decision. But it’s not. Not in the slightest. The best part is the pictures. The knock you off your feet, make you smile, grab a tissue kind of pictures. So that is what we’re celebrating today. The insanely beautiful moments captured by A Guy + A Girl Photography. With planning by Hold Your Hand Events there is so much more right here...and I dare you to find the prettiest one.

From A Guy + A Girl Photography…. Angela and Arthur’s wedding was a union of two true Manhattan foodies: a renowned New York food writer, and a Food Network Digital VP. She’s from Texas, he’s a Yankee…but he owns real cowboy boots, so it was a match made in heaven. Together, they love many things, from hot dogs to wine shops, oysters to BBQ.

Their laid-back wedding day at Studio 450 on the West side had all the chic-ness of a Manhattan loft wedding (and a rooftop ceremony next to a water tower!), while maintaining a relaxed Southern vibe (many booted gentlemen, specialty mac n cheese, slaw, greens and, of course, classic BBQ!).

Angela and Arthur’s cocktail hour featured a mariachi band, specialty cocktails and delicious bites from Delaney BBQ, followed by fireworks! Did we mention this wedding just happened to be on July 4th?! Halfway through the party, the dance floor moved up one floor to swing sparklers, while watching some of the Nation’s most impressive fireworks displays over the Hudson River. It was magic!

Vintage Inspired Wedding at Brooklyn Winery

A bride in converse, a groom in suspenders and a seriously fabulous Brooklyn Winery setting.  This, loves, isn’t your average wedding.  Nope, it’s one party rustic, one part vintage and all parts crazy fun party.  In other words?  It’s the kind of day that goes instantly into the SMP hall of fame.  See every gorgeous moment captured by 4 Eyes Photography right here

From the Bride… We met playing together on a co-ed recreational soccer team. I had been on the team for a number of years having become great friends with all of my teammates. A few years ago we lost a few male players and needed to fill some gaps in our roster. One of my teammates found a few co-workers to join. In walked Noah, my future husband. It took three meetings before it clicked for us, but when it did we became inseparable. It has been that way ever since.

We searched high and low throughout NYC and the New England area in search of a location for our wedding. The search was long and at times stressful because we were seeking a unique spot. We did not want a traditional ballroom found in every hotel or event hall across the country. Those spaces always seemed so sterile and non-personal. Instead, we wanted a venue that had already created its own unique atmosphere. Having no party/wedding planning experience I wasn’t about to attempt to create this space from the ground up. We needed to find the space that already had what we envisioned. The challenge was finding that match. One way or another we stumbled upon the Brooklyn Winery and we knew instantly it was our spot. The vintage wooden designs throughout the space along with the potted greenery make you feel warm and relaxed rustic décor often has this effect. It fit perfectly. The inspiration for the rest of our wedding style, colors, etc. was built upon our wedding venue. I choose colors of green and soft white/pinks to compliment the rustic look. Everything else just fell into place.

Casual Chic Summer Wedding at Barn on the Pond

The Bride wore a J.Crew t-shirt with a gorgeous custom silk skirt, simply carrying an elegant bouquet of white tulips; this is pretty much the epitome of relaxed elegance and she is officially my new style icon. Fabrice Tranzer photographed every moment of this celebration, from the sunny skies to the artisan pizza feast (my jealousy continues to grow). Kick back and enjoy this bright breath of fresh air.

From Fabrice TranzerBrad and Sarah were so effortlessly style-conscious on their wedding day that the photos just manifested in front of me! This was personally fun for me, as it was about Brad and Sarah being themselves, which is what true elegance is about.

From the Bride… We met in 2006 through a mutual friend while living in Chicago. Over the course of eight years together, we survived countless ups and downs, including my three years of graduate school, and Brad quitting his job and to write Well-Spent.com full time. We long planned to marry, but it wasn’t until we moved to Upstate New York that we finally felt it was the right time to organize a wedding.

We learned through friends that even with the best intentions wedding planning and execution can be extremely stressful. We wanted to keep things simple yet thoughtful – elegant yet low-key – but as design-obsessed perfectionists, that was much easier said than done.

It helped that we kept it small; less than 40 of our closest family and friends. Barn on the Pond gave us a bucolic but convenient setting at a nice price. Our florist, Henrietta Weekes, added herbs and local flowers for an effortless, sophisticated countryside touch. I wore a silk J. Crew tee with a custom silk skirt by Style des Reves, and had a bouquet made of white tulips, which matched Brad’s white tulip boutonnière – both a nod to my hometown of Holland, MI. And we invested in a great photographer, Fabrice Tranzer, whose relaxed yet professional demeanor made him a joy to work with. We had a brief pond-side ceremony officiated by a dear friend, followed by artisan pizza and signature cocktails served on barn-wood tables with biodegradable dinnerware (it was pizza, after all!). All in all, we had a wonderful time and were able to retain (most) of our sanity throughout.

Intimate New York City Metropolitan Building Wedding

This might be the sweetest flower girl I’ve ever met—she’s the cute little cherry on top of this gorgeously intimate day captured by Boris Zaretsky. From the invitations crafted by Bella Figura to the Bride’s sweeping Madeline Gardner dress to the cozy reception filled with sounds from 74 Events, the entire fete is New York City elegance at it’s finest. Hop over to the full gallery for even more!

From the beautiful Bride… From the second Greg and I got engaged in the intimate setting of Greg’s parent’s backyard with only our dog Harley as our witness, we knew that we wanted to plan a wedding that was just as intimate and a representation of us as the proposal itself. We had been dating for a little over three years by the time Greg proposed and I had never previously thought about what kind of wedding I was going to have. With the help of pinterest, Style Me Pretty, and the wonderful but dangerous tool which is the internet, Greg and I set out to plan the party of our lives, to celebrate the love, respect and admiration that we have for one another.

The first and most important task was to locate the venue. Oddly enough, this did not take long as we fell in love with the first venue we saw. A co-worker of mine, who got married the previous year, listened to me go on and on about not wanting a hotel or a catering hall wedding and immediately suggested the Metropolitan Building. It was love at first sight. The Metropolitan Building, with its shabby chic style and a mystical romantic ambiance, spoke to us and we knew this was the place for us. It was different and unique and showcased our love for antiques. Going antique shopping had become one of our favorite pastimes and to incorporate this into our wedding was an unexpected treat. Not to mention, I couldn’t wait to see our wedding photos since the Metropolitan Building serves as a spectacular backdrop for any photo shoot.

Once the venue and date were set, we started to focus on everything else – the wedding planner, the photographer, the florist, the music, the stationary, etc. I was able to find Kate of Green Apple Weddings and Events and Melanie (florist) by combing the internet and seeing their incredible work. I could not have planned such a spectacular event without these two ladies. Kate was my organizer and sounding board while Melanie was my artist who painted with the most beautiful flower arrangements. The pink, white and orange flowers coupled with the candelabras turned the Metropolitan Building into a magical wonderland.

I struggled with the decision of whether to hire both a photographer and videographer or just a photographer. I happen to have attended high school with a very talented photographer. I would stalk his facebook page and blog in anticipation of seeing his recently posted photographs. I was ecstatic when he agreed to shoot my wedding! Boris’ shots not only tell a phenomenal story but also evoke emotion more than any other photos that I have ever seen.

The two things which did not come easy to me were the invitations and the wedding dress. It took me several months to narrow down the perfect invitation from Bella Figura, suitable for the space and the occasion. As for the wedding dress, I ended up buying two dresses. If there is any piece of advice that I would give a soon to be bride, it would be to take her time picking her wedding dress. Many factors can sway a bride’s decision – pressure from family members, pressure from store clerk, price, etc. It is important to take your time and not to make any haste decisions. In my search for the perfect wedding dress, I tried on dresses ranging from $900 to $14,000. My initial purchase was a body hugging mermaid dress which fit my figure and looked beautiful but unfortunately after much thought and consideration I realized that it wasn’t formal enough. I then started trying on A-line dresses, which I never previously considered. It is very important for brides to try on different wedding dress styles since you never know what dress you will fall in love with. Keep an open mind and keep looking. Don’t ever settle for a dress you are not sure about. My second dress was perfect for the space and for me. It was a dropped A-line which showed off my figure and had the ballroom style skirt. I also opted for a light cream/champagne colored dress as opposed to white.

Once the invitations were sent and the dress was found, I turned my attention to the bridal party and more particularly, the bridesmaid dresses. I wanted my bridesmaids to all be dressed in vintage-style dress but I also wanted all of the bridesmaids to be in different dresses to accent their individuality. We decided to all go shopping at the local department stores and we were able to find the perfect set of dresses – all in cool silver, blue and purple tones. At first I was not sure how it would turn out but now looking back at the photos, I could not have been happier with their choices. And not to mention, the bridesmaids can now easily wear their gowns to other events!

Oftentimes, I was consumed by the minor details which I was told repeatedly that no one would notice. Nevertheless, I spent a significant amount of time picking out the hand calligraphed escort cards, creating fun and playful programs, designing the custom napkins, and putting together the wedding favors. I think in the end it all paid off.
