From the beautiful Bride… I knew Shadow Lawn was the perfect venue for us before even going there. We knew wanted to stay away from anything that was too “wedding-y” and be able to really make the day ours. Shadow Lawn is a beautiful barn and gorgeous lawn but that’s it, just a space, everything else has to be brought in. For us that was perfect because we got the chance to decorate the room as we wanted, use the chairs we wanted to use, select the table size and shape, choose the glassware, etc. We love to host people and so it was really important to us that we be able to choose the food and wine and be able to create the right vibe for our guests. The wedding was a destination for everyone so we really wanted to make sure that everyone had a rockin’ good time. Most people made a weekend out of it and stayed in the various b&b’s in the area which was great.

I am in the restaurant industry so the food was a big deal to us, we wanted to do family style dinner because that way everyone gets a little of everything!! We served a selection of our favorite foods during cocktail hour which included general tso chicken, veggie samosas, lox and scallion cream cheese toasts, oyster po’boys and platanos with mole. It was the perfect mash up. We take our boozing seriously too so we had many options including lambrusco, old-fashioneds, kir royales, a gin drink we called the Heatherington (Jon’s grandmothers maiden name) and hot apple cider with optional bourbon. For dessert we did cider donuts, pies and a “cheese cake”. We aren’t into wedding cakes so we opted for cheese because that’s how we like to end our meals! We had a few different types of cheese stacked on top of each other to make a “cake”, it was exactly what we wanted.

As far as inspiration for the day we really put so much thought into what was going to make the guests happy, we wanted it to be a great time for everyone because its probably the only time that we would ever have everyone that we love and cherish most together in the same room, we knew we couldn’t blow it! So we just focused on that, we knew that with such a gorgeous venue and beautiful area that everything would look great, we just had to make sure that we got the hospitality elements down. For flowers we kept it simple, there was so much natural beauty on the trees all around us so rather than trying to compete with that we kept things green and white, our florist did a fantastic job with making the arrangements really romantic, I kind of changed my mind about the flowers right before we had to order them, he did exactly what I wanted, he nailed it. For DIY stuff there was a ton! I am a jewelry designer so I was able to make our rings which was really special. I kept them really simple and made matching white gold bands. My lovely ladies and I made the wedding favors which were sriracha salt and lemon salt, that was great fun. We also bought the napkins rather than renting them because we wanted to use tea towels, so trekking to ikea and then folding all of those was quite a task! We had photos of our family members who couldn’t be there with us up on display, most of them were photos from their wedding days, it was really incredible to feel like they were there with us. For a guest book we used a jenga set so that when we play we can read everyone’s thoughts and wishes.

For music we had a gypsy jazz band play for the ceremony, cocktail hour and throughout dinner and then after dinner my sleep-away camp counselor from childhood DJ’ed. She played all of the throwbacks, one of my favorite moments of the day was when the Fugee’s came on and all of us were singing at the top of our lungs arm in arm, it was perfect.

To end the night we had a bonfire with sparklers and guitars, we sang along to Jon and his best friend playing the Dead and then walked down to the bar in town. They had a funk band playing and we danced the night away. The next day we went to our friends house in the area and had chili and sat by another bonfire and played more guitar and my ladies still had their flower crowns in their hair, I don’t think any of us wanted the weekend to end.

There was a lot of effort that went into planning this wedding because we wanted it to be so special and I’ve spent a lot of time replaying it in my head and trying to think of anything that didn’t go right or was forgotten and I honestly can’t think of anything. It was by far the best day/weekend of my life.

Industrial Chic Brooklyn Warehouse Wedding

It wasn’t until I moved to New York that I how much Brooklyn pride radiates from the borough. So, it seems only fitting that this native New York couple, and current Brooklyn dwellers, drew inspiration from their city for their big day—from the charcoal Jenny Yoo bridesmaids’ dresses to the graphic Brooklyn Bridge invitations. Rock Paper Scissors Events executed the gorgeous couple’s vision with stunning flair and Brian Hatton Photography was there to capture it all. See all the picture-perfect moments here.

From Rock Paper Scissors Events... Vanessa and Matthew are NYC natives and current Brooklyn residents, so doing their wedding at Liberty Warehouse where you overlook the Manhattan Skyline and the Statue of Liberty was a natural choice. The venue gave the couple a lot of inspiration, as did the Brooklyn borough. Vanessa is an interior designer, so naturally has great style. She brought in Rock Paper Scissors Events as design partners to take some of the work off of her plate and bring all of the ideas together as planning a wedding is a full time job on top of already having a full time job!

The couple brought in industrial elements with metal touches like the pewter chargers and candlesticks, natural wood elements with the escort card board and welcome sign, and kept the flowers from being too sweet by using Ariel Dearie’s hallmark natural style of windswept and loose arrangements. Custom invitations with the Brooklyn Bridge illustrated by Swiss Cottage Designs along with tables named after Brooklyn neighborhoods rounded out the Brooklyn inspired wedding.

The couple went to Vassar College, but never managed to meet there. They were introduced by a mutual friend when they both found themselves in NYC again after school. The color palette of rose and grey was an homage to Vassar’s school colors.

From the Bride… My best piece of advice for anyone planning their wedding is to go with your gut when making decisions! There are so many choices and details to consider that it is impossible not to become overwhelmed. If you feel good about something – whether it’s a color, a vendor, or an appetizer selection – just go for it! I did plenty of research in advance, but I only ended up visiting one reception venue and two dress shops. With these decisions, I’m so glad that I didn’t second-guess myself or worry too much about what else might be out there – I knew immediately that I would be happy with both, and it was a huge relief to be able to check them off my list so quickly.

From the Bride… Erik and I met in Barcelona in 2011 through a mutual friend. Erik is from Barcelona and I was teaching English there. We moved from Barcelona to Atlanta in the spring of 2013 and got married a few months later on August 31. The ceremony was an intimate one at my parents’ home in Georgia. They live on 50 acres with a 5 acre lake where we got married on the dock with just our families in attendance.

We moved to New York City at the end of January 2014 and knew that we wanted to do a second wedding in the city where all of our family and friends could celebrate with us. We also knew we wanted to get married in August because most of Spain takes the month of August off for holiday. Plus this would be the perfect one-year anniversary celebration!

Since we had already had a more casual rustic wedding, our vision for our second wedding was to have an elegant New York City wedding. However, we didn’t want the atmosphere to be too serious, and I think our venue was perfect for that. We chose 620 Loft & Garden because it gave us this magical private garden in the middle of Manhattan! I didn’t have a lot of specific ideas for the wedding, but I knew I wanted it to be romantic with lots of candles, varying shades of gold accents, and soft colors.

We also wanted to pay homage to our different cultures, but without making it the focus or letting it become a theme. Erik and I thought the best way to do this was through cocktail hour. This is where we had an Iberian ham carving station that our guests couldn’t get enough of! We specially ordered Estrella Damm beer that is brewed in Barcelona and Sweetwater beer that is brewed in Atlanta. I also just had to have cocktail napkins saying “Salut Y’all” because “salut” means “cheers” in Catalan, the language spoken in Barcelona, and because nothing is more southern than “y’all”!

We didn’t want to do wedding favors because they often go to waste, but it was important to Erik and I to have a fun party. So, we ordered glow sticks, custom glasses with American and Catalan flags on them, and of course Statue of Liberty hats and those were our “wedding favors.” We didn’t think many people would wear them, but they were so popular that we ran out and had to ask guests to borrow some because they were all gone before Erik and I could get any! Dancing to the music of our amazing DJ on our private rooftop garden in the middle of Rockefeller Center with our close family and friends was everything we wanted it to be and more.

Our wedding photographer was one of the best parts about the wedding. Kelly was so much fun to work with and her work was just stunning! I had seen too many fun NYC wedding picture ideas on Pinterest to get them all done on the wedding day, so Erik and I decided to get dressed up again a few weeks after the wedding, rent an old taxi to drive us around, and have Kelly take pictures of us all over NYC. We had a blast and the pictures turned out amazing! Having that special afternoon just for our fun pictures was great because there was no wedding to stress over. Plus it kind of doubled as a trash the dress session since we walked through the streets of Soho, Times Square, and even went into the subway! Best decision we made!

Stylish Wedding at The Foundry

Full of the perfect blend of elegant and personal touches, like a vintage locket with a photo of the Bride’s parents that hung from her bouquet (and amazing gift from her MoH!), this wedding is absolutely lovely in every sense of the word. 4 Eyes Photography captured this full blown lovefest to utter perfection, and we can’t stop pouring over the soft blush florals or romantic modern decor in the gallery here — and we know you won’t either!

From the Bride… We first met in law school. We had taken several classes together, and Charles had actually interviewed me for an externship at one point, but we were only passing acquaintances. The day we graduated from law school, we ran into each other out at bar celebrating and started talking. We completely ignored all of friends for the remainder of the night (sorry guys), and have been together ever since.

* What prompted the decision to have the wedding at this particular venue?  It was a combination of luck and procrastination. We got engaged in November 2013 and decided we wanted to take a few months to enjoy being engaged before diving into wedding planning craziness. We did not fully appreciate, however, just how far in advance New York City wedding venues book up. By the time we got serious about looking for places, options for a Saturday night in 2014 were few and far between. We knew the Foundry was already booked up when we went to look at it, but it wasn’t far from our Williamsburg apartment so figured it was worth a shot. We fell in love immediately. The main space is just stunning, and we loved the idea of being able to mix the intimate, industrial feel of a dance party inside with the romantic feel of a tented dinner surrounded by ivy outside. But, it was already booked for all of the dates we were interested in. Then one day a few weeks later we were randomly looking at the Foundry’s calendar online and noticed that there had been a cancellation for the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. We jumped on it immediately. By that time it was already March, so we had a whole wedding to plan in less then six months, but it was so worth it. We loved the Foundry!

* What was the ‘inspiration’ for your wedding style, wedding colors, etc. ?  We turned to Julia and Brita for help with design and décor for the wedding. They came up with a “gilded garden” theme which worked perfectly. The tent had a rustic chic feel with a mix of long uncovered farm tables with eucalyptus runners, and round and square tables with flax tablecloths and floral arrangements. We then used greenery, florals, and candles in the inside space to help warm it up and pull in the design from the tent. For the ceremony itself, we used two birch trees and the Foundry’s curtains to frame the space. Once the ceremony was over, the trees were flipped to the back of the room and used for an interactive guest book.

Any special moments? My mother passed away shortly after I graduated from college. On the night of our rehearsal dinner my Dad brought me her wedding ring to wear as my “something old” and “something borrowed.” It was very special and a nice way to have her with me. My amazing maid of honor also gave me an antique locket with a picture of my parents on their wedding day to tie around my bouquet when I walked down the aisle.

Whimsical New York Inn Wedding

At first glance, I swore this whimsical affair was a styled shoot. It’s just that good. But, m’dears this is real life. And real life is just that gorgeous. Surrounded by a bevy of beautiful Bridesmaids’ and lush Ava Flora blooms, this stylish pair put on one chic affair. A blend of of bohemian and garden fashion, from the sparkling feathered chandeliers to the mini tambourine favors, Judy Pak snapped it all in the gallery.

From the beautiful Bride… Chris and I were together for a decade right before he proposed. We were on vacation in Palm Springs and traveling through Joshua Tree. After all day in the park he turned the car around and said let’s get one more picture. When he pulled over he was standing under one of the Joshua Trees and got down on one knee! It was incredibly magical as we felt we were the only two people in the park at that moment.

Our wedding inspiration came from that day we wanted to somehow incorporate the Joshua Trees in our tablescapes. My florist Lori, from Ava Flora put together these amazing driftwood trees from branches and added succulents around the tops of the branches to represent the Joshua Trees. Each succulent had one petal that was painted in a metallic rose gold. We also used a lot of white milk glass and mercury glass for the flower arrangements. I fell in love with Proteas because they were so unique and that really set the theme for flowers.

We both share a love for Wes Anderson and The Rams Head Inn seemed to be the perfect backdrop for our wedding weekend. We wanted our guests to feel relaxed so we utilized the whole Inn for the wedding. my inspirations for decor was a mix of bohemian and the garden party scene in Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. My mother and sister and I hand dipped over 1200 feathers in rose gold glitter so our guests could dance under feathers. Every guest was given a mini tambourine that said “Shake for kisses”.

The day of the wedding was so fun! Since we took over the Inn for the weekend the morning of was so intimate! All our close family and friends were running around the Inn bouncing from room to room! My husband even went paddle boarding in the morning! Everything felt so casual and relaxed. It was truly a magical day and the party continued until 2am … The rain that was haunting the weather reports finally came at 2:30am! It was the most perfect day!

Bohemian Upstate New York Farm Wedding

This rustic wedding was the perfect merger of the Bride and Groom’s backgrounds, coming together in one beautiful, bohemian bash. Held at the Bride’s childhood home, guests were treated to a family-focused fete, with touches of lavender paying homage to the Groom’s French heritage. This gallery, captured by Cappy Hotchkiss, has all of us crossing our fingers that we’ll get an invite to their next party.

From the beautiful Bride… When my fiance and I were thinking about where we wanted to get married, no place seemed more perfect then Sanctuary Farm – the beautiful 200-acre farm I grew up on right outside of Cooperstown, NY. We wanted every detail of the ceremony and event to feel “like us” – bohemian, relaxed and family-oriented, with great food, wine and music and a party that lasted all night.

We got married by our family pastor at “The Family Tree” – a huge solitary oak tree overlooking fields of wheat and sunflowers. The ceremony was the most special part of the whole day – we wrote our own vows, surrounded by family and closest friends, and walked up the aisle to local fiddlers.

It was really important to both of us to incorporate aspects of our personalities and histories. Austin has a French heritage so we imported the linens from Provence and guests tossed lavender at us down the aisle. We both love design so every detail of the table settings and decor were hand selected to represent our aesthetic. Most importantly we wanted our guests to feel at home at Sanctuary Farm – to be able to relax and celebrate.

The event was truly a family affair – and the statement “it takes a village” could not have been more appropriate. My beautiful sister Sedona designed and crafted the bouquets, boutonnieres and flower arrangements. My brother Joe edited and produced the wedding video. My sisters Eden and Avalon and cousin Justine designed the signs around the property. My maid of honor, my sister Ruby, ran point, planned my bridal shower and bachelorette party and made sure everything was perfect. My dad designed the amazing “corn bar” and with the help of my brother William architected the lighting, design and structure. My mom, shoe designer Susan Bennis, laid her design aesthetic on the whole day and coordinated everything.

Thank you, thank you to everyone who made this possible! So much love permeated every aspect of this day!

From Cappy Hotchkiss PhotographyIsis works as the Director of Apparel at Nike and Austin is the Marketing Director at Tiny Rebellion, an ad agency. The venue was at the Bride’s family home, Sanctuary Farm, outside of Cooperstown, NY, soon to be available for event rental!

I’d like to note that Isis wore the most stunning pair of shoes that I have ever seen. Flats because of the terrain, designed by her mother, shoe designer Susan Bennis, formerly of Susan Bennis/Warren Edwards. Grecian and wrappy and sexy and fabulous.

Her sister, Sedona Rose Ward, arranged all the flowers, which were home grown and picked on the family’s property at Sanctuary Farm. The Lawton Sisters, Nicole and Stephanie, true originals and truly gifted in all things wedding, did the day-of coordination.

The food was all locally and organically grown and prepared by Origins Cafe. The veil was a vintage, heritage family heirloom from Belgium. The bridesmaids, flower girl, and ring bearer all wore their own clothes. The ceremony music were the wonderful Joe Pfeiffer and Kit Clark out of Oneonta, NY.

Cocktail hour featured great lawn games out on the property: “Golf and Scotch” over the pond, petanque, corn hole, badminton. Pastis and Pimm’s Cup were flowing. The couple exited the ceremony as a row of their family and friends pelted them with lavender. The lavender thrown as the couple exited was imported from Provence by the Groom’s mom! Her company is Spirit of Provence.

And I can’t forget their dogs, Bogart and Brando.

From Diane Hu PhotographyThe inspiration for our Glittery Gold Venetian styled bridal shoot came from the stunning Venetian Gothic architecture of the Montauk Club, a grand five-story building built in the nineteenth-century located in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood of New York City. We (Jackie Travers, of Busy Bride Planning + Consulting, and Diane Hu, of Diane Hu Photography) wanted to style a wedding that was romantic, elegant and captured the essence of being in a grand palace in Venice, Italy. We wanted to capture the mystique, glamour, seduction and allure of a bride and groom at a masquerade ball on Venice’s Grand Canal. The majestic stained glass windows, carved mahogany woodwork, vintage gold-trimmed portraits, and nineteenth-century architecture of the Montauk Club, provided the perfect background and setting for our vision.

From there, we incorporated vintage decor and delicate details: Katie Fischer Design, along with Write Away For You Calligraphy created the beautiful five-piece invitation suite that featured hand-painted metallic gold accents on a dramatic black card stock. We highlighted the stationery with vintage stamps and miniature flower vases from the antique store Yesterday’s News, a local favorite in Brooklyn. Our florist, Sweet Thorn Flora by Jaime Lee, added a splash of color by designing gorgeous floral arrangements that emulated vintage Dutch Flower paintings. They included rich pink and purple flowers, set in large, vintage gold vases that were perfect for our “fine-art” vision. We also incorporated gold-and-black trimmed dinnerware, a perfect addition to our table setting. Martinka Crystalware & Lifestyle, LLC designed handmade art-deco stemware to complete our table. The highlight of our dessert table is a two-tiered, gold trimmed cake with sugar heirloom roses and daffodils created by Voeux Cake Design, a luxury cake design company.

One of the highlights of the shoot was collaborating with K.C. from 4everstore. K.C provided breathtaking Venetian masquerade masks. The bride wore a handmade white mask with gold detailing along the rim and a delicate white feather. The groom wore a simple, dramatic black and gold mask.

The bride and groom, Chauntee and Morgan, are a real life married couple who recently celebrated their wedding anniversary. We wanted a natural, flawless look for the bride that would emphasize her gorgeous features. Prim and Per’Fect, a New York City based high-end bridal hair and makeup studio, captured the bride’s natural beauty without looking overdone. Prim and Per’Fect styled the bride’s hair with a braided, loose chignon coiffure bun.

We worked with the talented Wanlu from Wanlu Bridal to create a handmade custom wedding gown for our bride. The lace-adorned, strapless dress with beading detail is worn under a gorgeous three-quarter sleeved, lace bolero – a wonderful twist on a classic look. We accessorized the gown with hand embroidered bridal cuffs featuring embroidered lace flowers, beaded leaves and pearls and a chantilly lace bridal cap sewn with a handmade silk flower and a hand curled ostrich feather to finish off the vintage look. The groom is wearing a classic suit from Brooklyn Tailors. The suit is sharply tailored and lean with a flattering fit, and unobtrusive detailing. Chauntee and Morgan’s chemistry combined with an extraordinarily talented team of wedding vendors and professionals helped bring our Venetian love story to life!

Elegant Fall New York City Wedding

This Fall NYC wedding is a total stunner. With invitations from Tie That Binds, planning from True Event, Reverend Annie Lawrence officiating, and rockin’ tunes from The Remixologists at the reception, there’s no way this fabulous affair wouldn’t be a smashing success! Lucky for us Craig Paulson Photography was there to capture all the love, and share it with us in the gallery here!

From the Bride… When we were searching for a venue in New York and the surrounding area, I felt overwhelmed with the paradox of choice. We went to a number of raw spaces, gardens and estates, but nothing felt right. One evening, when a huge snow storm had blown through all of the tri-state area, we ventured out into the desolate streets of the city to find dinner. We decided upon The Park for its cozy fireplace and delicious pizza. It was a staple of our Chelsea neighborhood. Tonight, for the first time, it was completely empty. Walking through the gorgeous indoor garden room, we knew — this was the place. It had been right under our nose the whole time!

With the help of Sarah from True Event, Ingrid from Tin Can Studios and Frances from The Park, we settled on a floral palette ranging from deep, dusky roses to the palest pinks and everything in between. We even included some orange tones to bring out the Fall colors of our November wedding.

Sarah helped me bring the setting at The Park up a notch, as it’s more of a casual, romantic vibe and we wanted the affair to be black tie optional. We worked with Party Rentals to add gold embellishments and included lighted votive candles within the table arrangements to set the mood for an evening wedding.

I worked with Kim at Craig Paulson photography to set a number of formal and pre-wedding shots at our hotel, The Dream Downtown, and at the venue before the ceremony. She and Caleb caught so many lovely shots – it was hard to pick which to submit!

I worked with Mekala from Tie That Binds stationary to create a custom watercolor map of the Chelsea area as well as a signature watercolor of our two dogs that wouldn’t be able to join the ceremony – it was our special way of incorporating them into our big day! She also created the menus, place cards and ceremony programs to go with the floral palette we’d chosen.

My husband requested a few details including a jazz band during the cocktail hour with a 20s vibe, signature cocktails served before the ceremony (which we also held at The Park) and a raw seafood bar where we had live shuckers preparing fresh oysters and clams. My major request was a pink themed candy bar for guests during dessert and a surprise visit from the Gorilla Grilled Cheese Truck, a NYC staple, at the end of the night. The guests loved leaving the venue and getting some grilled cheese, tomato soup and tater tots before making their next move of the night!

Rustic Long Island Vineyard Wedding

It’s not an easy task to make a wedding for 200 guests feel intimate and charming, but this wedding does just that. Simple and rustic, yet effortlessly chic and elegant, it’s all in the details for this sweet couple’s Long Island nuptials. From the throwback lemonade stand to the mini pies and cookies for dessert, this charming wedding captured by Bia Sampaio feels like coming home. Enjoy all the sweet details here.

From Bia Sampaio… I knew when I met Sara and Mike that they were going to have a fun wedding. They could not stop smiling talking about the wedding day and talking about how much fun they awaited to have.

The wedding was not just fun but also filled with incredible details.

From the Bride… Mike and I knew we wanted to get married in a vineyard even before we were engaged. We both love the outdoors and thought it was important to get married under a big open sky. When we saw Martha Clara, we fell in love and wanted to book it right away!

For our decor we chose a rustic theme that blended well with Martha Clara’s barn reception hall and the outdoor ceremony space. We used wooden boxes to hold our flowers — we went with neutrals mixed with succulents and wrapped the bouquets in burlap. We turned decor details over to two of the most amazing vendors: Laura Mastriano, our wedding planner/super hero, and florists Nancy and Elizabeth of Open House Country. They transformed Martha Clara’s rustic barn space into a warm and cozy home — for 200 people! Laura was the driving force in turning our ideas into reality and we could not have been more pleased with how it came out.

Our photographer Bia Sampaio was also amazing. With Bia you feel like another friend is with you getting ready, but she is really capturing every moment on film! We love our photos!

Mike wore a custom navy suit by P Johnson which was timeless and simple. I tried on a few dresses but fell in love with Modern Trousseau. Their designs are so unique and I think they are beautiful in their simplicity and the care that goes into the making of each one. I wore a strapless version of their Sage design with a satin ribbon.

My favorite part of the day was walking/dancing back down the aisle with Mike after our ceremony to amazing music played by the Whistling Wolves, a Brooklyn based bluegrass band. My heart was literally bursting when they broke into Vance Joy’s “Riptide” on the way out and when they played “Longing to Belong” by Eddie Vedder as I walked down the aisle under a huge open vineyard sky.

During all of the planning Mike and I just tried to remember that the day is about us and celebrating our lives together. The best advice I can give is to enjoy the day, every minute of it! Don’t worry about whether you hair is out of place or about pictures. Just remember that this day should be the happiest, most carefree day of your life. Enjoy and let go!

Elegant Oheka Castle Wedding

Layer upon layer of luxurious elegance is about to unfold before your eyes, in the form of Rebecca Yale‘s artful imagery. With a slightly Art Deco vibe, this Oheka Castle affair glows with rich detailing that we crave on the daily here at SMP… a perfectly styled invitation suite, designed by Ipanema Press and Bella Figura, a bouquet from Ava Flora with a mind of it’s own and that dress, oh that dress. It’s a doozy, darlings.

From Rebecca YaleSandy and Kain’s wedding celebration at Oheka Castle was a gorgeous day full of elegant details and a celebration fit for royalty. From the absolutely stunning bouquet and floral arrangements from Avaflora to her gorgeous Monique Lhullier dress every detail was perfection! I had the pleasure of photographing Sandy and Kain’s engagement party last year, so it was so much fun to work with them again and document their beautiful wedding day. I absolutely love getting to know my couples during the planning process and these two are just the sweetest! The love for each other and their big families was evident in every moment of the day and was a joy to capture for them.

From the beautiful Bride… Kain and I originally met in High School, and reconnected right after college. We met up in New York City one chilly winter night. Kain and I had been dating for 3 years before he proposed on Sunday, March 24th 2013 at Lenz Winery, my favorite vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island. It was a breezy spring day so naturally; I wanted to go inside the barn turned tasting room to keep warm. As we were walking in, Kain asked me to wait because he had something to ask me. When I turned around, he was already on one knee asking me to marry him! This overwhelming happy feeling just came over me like I never felt before! I was so excited but couldn’t stop shaking at the same time, I couldn’t stop smiling! I was on cloud nine!

I planned the entire wedding myself, but with MUCH help from my mother…thank goodness for her! I chose Oheka Castle for our reception because I wanted an Art Deco feel that exuded luxury and glamour. The garden and grounds of Oheka are absolutely gorgeous and the Castle itself is stunning! I had an Art Deco theme throughout the wedding. The color mix was ivory, light blush, and gold. Kain went to his family jeweler and designed my gorgeous custom oval-cut platinum engagement ring with a double diamond halo. For our wedding bands, Kain wanted something simple since he isn’t used to wearing jewelry. Kain chose a simple platinum wedding band and I chose a natural round wedding band. It’s gorgeous!

When initially looking for my dress I knew I wanted one that was romantic, timeless, and that made me feel beautiful. I chose a two-tone ivory gown featuring a lace bodice embroidered with lace and embellished with crystals, pearls, and baby glass beads. It also featured a textured organza tufted skirt with a quaint keyhole back. I knew I definitely wanted to keep my dress very traditional by choosing beaded, lace sleeves and a ball gown, but I also wanted to something modern which is why I chose the princess cut bodice with the keyhole back. I loved the mix of traditional and modern at the same time. My Monique Lhuillier wedding gown delivered timeless elegance with a modern edge. My cathedral length veil featured leaping scallops of lace edge. As far as my shoes, I wanted a classic shoe that I knew I could wear even after the wedding was over which is why I chose a glamorous strappy nude Manolo Blahnik. And blue nail polish on my toes (my something blue)! Kain’s Mother contributed to my “something borrowed” – a vintage diamond bracelet which was also used as a ‘something borrowed’ when Kain’s brother married my sister-in-law in essence starting a Family tradition. My bridal purse was a small YSL purse with a gold chain. I used it for all of my bridal events: bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, and wedding day. I wore my hair swept to the side in loose curls and a crystal grape cluster headpiece by Twigs and Honey.

I had 5 bridesmaids. They all wore the same Adrianna Papell beaded one shoulder dress. We searched around all day in New York City and kept seeing very plain generic bridesmaids’ dresses. I wanted my girls to really love their dress and feel just as gorgeous and confident as I did in my wedding dress. I also wanted to get the Art Deco feel from the dresses. So when I saw my bridesmaids come out of the dressing room one by one with the dress, I just knew it was the one! They all looked stunning in them and I knew all of us as a group would really have a ‘wow’ factor. The beading on the dresses really complemented my wedding dress and I felt as if they were a true accessory to me, the bride.I gifted all my girls a crystal grape cluster comb by Twigs and Honey for them to put in their hair the day of the wedding. It matched my crystal headpiece from Twigs and Honeys. The flower girls wore custom made tulle dresses designed and made by my Aunt. The ring bearers all wore classic mini tuxes with bow ties. They had silver brunia boutonnieres with hints of eucalyptus.

I carried a gorgeous cascading bouquet with blooms in shades of white and cream with accents of blush. Florals included roses, snow berry, lisianthus, calla lilies, and orchids. Draping foliage such as ivy and eucalyptus was included and stems were finished in a lace ribbon cuff and pearl accenting. Bridesmaids carried a garden bouquet with blooms in shades of blush, champagne, and mauve with accents of green. Flowers included roses, snow berry, lisianthus, and silver brunia. The centerpieces had an Art Deco look to them. Table numbers were in gold with ivory table linens. Godiva chocolate wedding favors with gold ribbon were on all the tables with a letterpress favor card from Bella Figura. Our precious favor cards were letter pressed with a small poodle and a sweet message. Kain and I adopted a toy poodle from North Shore Animal League last year and we wanted to incorporate her in the wedding! This was the perfect way!

Father/Daughter dance was “The way you look tonight” version by Steve Tyrell, I grew up loving “Father of the Bride” Since I am from Peruvian decent, I always grew up dancing to Salsa at my family gatherings. The wedding wasn’t any different. Kain and I are also big fans of obscure 80s songs and New Wave music. Therefore, it was tricky to try to find someone that not only mix both but was familiar with those types of genres! Towards the end of the night, we also had an amazing surprise performance by professional Salsa dancers!!!

Elegant Outdoor Hudson Valley Wedding

We first fell in love with this gorgeous couple when we came across their charming Manhattan engagement shoot. If it’s even possible, we’re more in love with them now than ever after seeing their glamorous Hudson Valley wedding. But with gorgeous invitations from Bella Figura, music from Jarrell Entertainment and breathtaking photography from Gabe Aceves, can you really blame us? Swoon over all the stunning details in the gallery.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/113287266 600 338]

From the beautiful Bride… Brett and I live in New York City, but often spend our weekends seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. When searching for our wedding venue, we decided to look in the Hudson Valley, so that we could share the beauty we have admired during hikes together, with our friends and family. The day we decided to visit The Garrison was a logistical disaster; trains weren’t running, rental cars stopped working, and it was the middle of a heat wave. The moment we drove up to this venue we stopped arguing and stressing, looked at each other, and instantaneously knew this was the perfect venue for us.

In planning our wedding we tried to stay true to who we are as a couple. We both agreed that we wanted to focus on thanking our guests, and make the weekend a fun treat for all of them. We felt that this day was just as much a celebration of those people who have loved us, supported us, and been there throughout our seven years together, as it was about our love for each other. We decided to combine our new found love of crafting with that sentiment and ended up having such a fun year figuring out all the tiny details that went into the weekend.

Our first project was our save the dates. We wanted to break away from the traditional a little bit here, but also wanted something that was easy to display as a reminder of the big day. We eventually decided on custom screen printed kitchen towels. These were a huge hit with our guests, and it has been so very fun to see them displayed in everyone’s kitchens! From there, we continued to DIY little treats and goodies for our guests: dried lavender terra cotta escort cards, welcome totes, hangover kits, hotel door hangers, vintage handkerchiefs (for happy tears!), muslin bags with dried lavender, and personalized mason jar mug favors. Doing these things together was my favorite part of wedding planning. We spent so many weekends locked in our apartment in a mess of paper, lavender, and glue guns. In the end, the time spent doing it together, and the reactions from our guests made it all worth it.

When I went wedding dress shopping, I thought that I already knew the dress I wanted. When I went to try it on however, I didn’t feel that it was quite right. I spent some more time looking around until I found the most gorgeous beaded Manuel Mota for Pronovias dress. I immediately fell in love with the leaf beading that faded into the full tulle skirt with a chapel length train. The only problem was that this dress came with sheer long sleeves that didn’t feel right for me. Luckily after some brainstorming and expert tailoring the long sleeves were changed into shirred straps—the finished result was more beautiful than I had ever imagined it to be. I will forever cherish the smile on Brett’s face when he saw it on me for the first time during our private first look. My bridesmaids wore long chiffon dresses from Little Borrowed Dress in lavender (their choice) and ended up choosing different silhouettes and customizing their dresses to their taste and comfort. Their dresses were ethereal and looked gorgeous against the backdrop of the Hudson Valley.

Being in an interfaith relationship made our wedding a little bit complicated, but so much more interesting! It was very difficult to find two officiants that would represent both of our faiths, cultures, and families while also agreeing to work together during one ceremony. We were very lucky in finding our officiants, and the ceremony would not have been complete without both of them. After performing both Muslim and Jewish ceremonies, Brett and I read vows that we wrote to each other and walked down the aisle to a trio playing “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros while our guests showered us with dried lavender for good luck.

Our wedding day was perfect, and above all else so much fun. The both of us enjoyed every moment and woke up the next day exhausted from singing and dancing so hard with our loved ones. Every detail was a reflection of our love for each other as well as our families and friends.

Boho Backyard New York Wedding

Everything about this New York backyard wedding, from the Bride’s pretty flower crown to the mouthwatering tower of donuts, is such a delight! It’s a laidback affair with lawn games, DIY centerpieces and string lights, yet stays chic with accents inspired by the Italian coast. Daniel Cruz captures all the wonderful details in the full gallery right here.

Backyard

From Daniel CruzFilled with the love of all their family and friends, it truly was a wonderful night, and this couple is absolutely adorable and such kind humans. Their day was complete with a surprise live performance from the groom himself, set up lawn games for family and friends, and the setting of the most gorgeous New York backyard in a neighborhood built in the 1940s for WWII veterans! For portraits, I took the Bride and Groom to the historic Wantagh Train Museum and post office, which was perfect for such an adorable couple like Jacqui and Rob.

From the beautiful Bride… He’s a musician, and I’m a teacher. We met in college and were friends for 10 years before we started dating long distance. After 6 months, I moved to Portland, Oregon to be with him, and 2 years later we were engaged. We moved back to NYC a month before the wedding (which was crazy!) to be closer to our families.

We wanted a very laid back, non-structured day where our friends and families could relax and mingle. I used Pinterest for inspiration and tried to save money wherever I could. Instead of flowers, we had wood planks, lemons, and herbs potted by my sister on the table. We made the arbor with plant hooks and old lace curtains. I ordered the cocktail hour antipasto from an Italian deli; a family friend cut us a deal on the barbecue; and instead of a wedding cake, we had a tower of donuts, pie, and Junior’s mini cheesecake.

Our inspiration for the day was a trip we took to Tuscany and Sorrento in Italy. The wine we ordered was from the small medieval town of San Gimignano (only $10 a bottle!). The lemons and herbs on the table brought in the sights and smells of the Amalfi coast. The laid back feel of the Italian coast was reinforced by the strings of lights and the natural green setting of my aunt’s backyard.

The most special part of the wedding was that everyone came together to help us create a casual yet beautiful setting.

My husband would have been happy to elope, since he is not a fan of anything traditional or ceremonial. However, it was his idea to write our own vows- and when he read his to me, he cried! Everyone was moved- he’s usually a pretty stoic guy.

One of my absolute favorite parts was when Rob serenaded me with our first dance song, and even had his brother and friends set up instruments and accompany him. It was a total surprise! Rob says his favorite moment was the look on my face when he surprised me with singing.

Our ceremony was performed by our friend Tony and included a poem read by my sister and a Carl Sagan reading by his brother. We aren’t religious, so the ceremony was focused on the theme of friendship, togetherness, and the wonder of finding love in the midst of an immense universe.

Instead of bridesmaids or groomsmen standing up with us, we had friends and family play other important roles in our day, like taking video and helping us get ready. I had my sisters, cousin and friends pick their own dresses in shades of yellow, gold, blush, and silver, and I didn’t even see their choices until the day of.

Fellow brides, you will think that having a low budget wedding means less planning. It doesn’t. An expensive wedding and a backyard wedding both still mean the same number of decisions: music, decor, invites, food, tent, rentals, down to the dessert utensils. So be ready to spend some energy and time, and stay organized! I used an excel spreadsheet for everyone’s address, response, gift, and to keep track of thank-yous sent, as well as a separate online list of vendors, budget, actual money spent, and payment dates.

Be budget-conscious, but one splurge that’s worth it is your photographer. Your pictures will last forever, and when you spend money on looking great, you want the pictures to show it. I couldn’t be happier with my photos—they are so “us” and really show who we are as a couple.”

Elegant Summer Wedding at River Cafe

If you need me, I’ll be over here starting a little Judy Pak fan club. First we had an adorable e-shoot in Union Square this morning, and now we’re wrapped up in this effortlessly elegant summer celebration in Brooklyn with breathtaking Blush Design florals. These photos have me swooning but don’t miss the beautiful Bride and Groom’s story below either, reflecting on their special day. See it all right here!

From the Bride and Groom… As we walked toward the River Café, and the gently setting sun peered down upon satin white chairs arranged neatly around the venue’s landscaped garden, it was evident our weeks’ worth of praying for good weather had paid off. Our all-star team – Michael Justin, Jeeyun Kim, Judy Pak, and Kimberly Pilson bustled around us with seamless professionalism, wearing smiles only topped by that of ours and of the wedding party. As sequences occurred to disbelieving perfection, the last strands of day gave way to the twinkling lights of Manhattan; tears started drying, hands rising – we thank everyone involved, again, for those few special hours that would last a lifetime.

Casual NYC Fall Engagement Session

As a fellow bride-to-be whose relationship has a major focus on food, I thoroughly appreciate this couple’s love for their weekly farmers market trips, and can’t think of a more personal and adorable idea for an engagement shoot. Judy Pak trailed along through Union Square Greenmarket and all the way to Gramercy Park, capturing every smile and we’re just smitten with these postcard-worthy pics.

From the Bride-to-be… James and I met in New York City when we were both new lawyers working at the same law firm. We lived only a few blocks away from each other in the Union Square area and would go to the Union Square Greenmarket every Saturday morning. We still go almost every weekend and love walking through, seeing what has been grown nearby and picking out what to cook each weekend.

Our shared love for food and cooking has been a huge part of our relationship. James proposed at Blue Hill at Stone Barns out in a field on the farm (before having an amazing meal!), and we are getting married in a barn in the Berkshires. But, at heart, we are still New Yorkers and since we aren’t getting married here, we wanted to take engagement pictures that would capture our true home.

We mentioned the Greenmarket idea to Judy, wondering if she thought it would work, and she was super enthusiastic to give it a try. We were also lucky to be able to borrow a key to Gramercy Park from a friend of James’s family, so we walked from the market, down Irving Place (one of our favorite blocks in the city) and ended in the park. It was a perfect fall day and we had the best time getting to know Judy and practicing our smiles for the wedding!

Intimate Rooftop New York City Wedding

As an urban dweller myself, I have a soft spot for weddings set in the city. There’s something wildly romantic about the a lovefest in the concrete jungle and this little fete is the proof. From a simple ceremony in Central Park to a chic rooftop reception, there’s no doubt the gallery from Elisa Bricker will go down as an SMP fave.

From Elisa BrickerMarangelie and Quinn are native to Colorado, but decided to celebrate their wedding day in New York. Their ceremony was intimate, as they had a small daytime wedding in Central Park reception at The Standard afterward. Their day was a marriage of modern elements and traditional ones. The space for their reception was clean and filled with natural light, and the beautiful floral design by Nicolette Camille brought femininity into the space. Throughout the day, Marangelie and Quinn’s desire to keep a focus on simplicity and relationship reigned.

Classic Black + White Manhattan Central Park Wedding

A Manhattan wedding with a couple as chic as these two is bound to be a glamorous affair. Combine this stunning couple and the classic backdrop of the city with flawless photography from Trent Bailey Photography and you’ve got a wedding seriously worth lusting over. Once you’ve picked your jaws up off of the floor, take a moment to look at the gallery for all the gorgeous details—you can thank us later.

From Trent Bailey PhotographyOn a rainy day in Manhattan, Christina and David tied the knot downtown and then headed uptown to celebrate with their friends and family in Central Park. Christina was a gorgeous bride and David was such a dapper groom. There is something so magical about Manhattan weddings on a rainy day, and it was an honor to photograph such an incredible couple’s wedding day!

From the beautiful Bride… David and I met in New York City as co-workers and for the past five years have spent our free time together exploring, discovering and falling in love with the city and all it has to offer. There are many lenses through which New York can be seen, but our favorite is black and white – classic, timeless and elegant old-New York. We wanted this theme to resonate through each detail of our wedding.

I have wanted to get married at The Church of Saint Joseph in Greenwich Village since the moment I stepped foot in it with David several years ago. The white wood interior, black and white floors and crystal chandeliers made for a very romantic setting to share with our family and closest friends. In keeping with our theme, we wanted a venue that was clean in décor but classic, and the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park was the perfect fit. To complement the windowed exterior and breathtaking views that the boathouse provided we wanted lots of candlelight and little color. For our invitations, programs and menu cards we kept true to our theme by working with The Printery, the century-old bespoke stationer that produces gorgeous custom stationary. Everything from the wording to the coloring was kept simple and classic.

The day of our wedding was everything we hoped it would be and more. We had a full Mass for our ceremony and chose songs that were meaningful to us from throughout our lives. Elizabeth Fillmore customized my dress to perfection. My father and I arrived to the ceremony in a vintage Rolls Royce which David and I then rode away in. My bridesmaids all wore different dresses of the same hue and the groomsmen wore black tuxedos – furs and jackets added a touch of glamor for the girls while warding off the chilly fall night. We took our photos after the ceremony at the New York Public Library, a last minute idea from our photographer Trent Bailey in lieu of the weather, and I cannot imagine having taken them anywhere else.

We kicked off cocktail hour at the boathouse with a signature martini and American Songbook classics via a saxophone and guitar and continued the reception with a wonderful band, capable of doing both the oldies we love and our favorite contemporary hits. David stood out from his groomsmen at the reception where he changed into a classic white dinner jacket.

Dennis of Lenox Hill Florist created a clean and romantic feeling through candelabras, baby’s breath, tea lights and branches draped in small votives. Michelle of Michelle Elaine Weddings helped us in executing our vision flawlessly through her focus on all of the details. And finally, Trent Bailey perfectly captured every incredible moment and detail through his lens, through which we will remember our wedding for a lifetime.

Charming New York Country Club Wedding

I love when I see lavender at weddings, the simple beauty, the calming color, the intoxicating scent. It’s a no brainer and all of the little touches of lavender at this rustic summer celebration has me pinning away. From the sweet bouquets to the bunches tied on the ceremony chairs, I imagine the whole scene smelled amazing. Levi Stolove captured it all; see more right here!

From Levi Stolove PhotographyChristina, born and raised in NYC, and Colin, from Toronto, met in New York and fell in love.

Sleepy Hollow Country Club, where their wedding took place, used to be the Vanderbilt house. Perched atop a hill side with views of the Hudson, its classic architecture and detail were a great contrast to the couple’s relaxed nature. They wanted their wedding to be fun, full of love and have a relaxed feel to it. Candid photographs were the most important to them to capture all the small moments that make up a wedding day: a kiss, a hug, holding hands as the emotions run through them and all their loved ones. They had a friend officiate their wedding, and they recited their own vows. And then they danced the night away!

Organic Chic Wedding at The Foundry

The Foundry is one of those venues that I can spot from a mile away and instantly recognize. And every time I do, my eyes light up with joy and an eagerness to see how each couple will make it their own. It’s lovebirds like these two that keep setting the bar. Working with Workship LuxuryVillage Invites and so many more talents, you can see the entire day from Cly By Matthew here in the full gallery.

From Cly By MatthewWe really loved the organic floral design and the simple decor of this chic same sex wedding at the Foundry. Workship Luxury did an amazing job decorating the center pieces and we really loved the bride’s bouquet with long stems. It was unique and beautiful. The bride with the wedding gown went for the vintage chic 1920’s hair style and red lipstick. She was really drop dead gorgeous in person and we really enjoyed capturing her beauty. They did not see each other before they walked down the aisle and when they did, I can’t forget their facial expressions. They were just so in love and in the moment together. They had many out of town family and friends who joined the celebration. There was so much love in the room and family and friends really had a great time.

Summer Wedding at North Fork’s Brecknock Hall

They say “love never felt so good”; the days are sunnier, the commute is shorter, and everything seems just better when you’re in love. Nothing will put you into a feel-good mood faster than this Sunnyville Films production of a Brecknock Hall wedding, made exquisite by SPINA and Sperry Tents. Set to the tune of Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake’s catchy hit, it’s the pick-me-up you need right now.

From the beautiful Bride… John scheduled our annual vacation trip to Europe, all while holding onto the engagement ring for 7 months! This time he chose the city of Prague, where he resided in his teenage years. The first night, as we walked back from dinner, we stopped to look at the glimmering castles near the Charles Bridge. He told me for the first time that he always imagined proposing to his future wife on the Charles Bridge, next to the good luck statue — St. John of Nepomuk. Then he plopped down to one knee and exposed the ring while I cried hysterically and said yes!

From Brecknock HallGiselle and John’s romantic vintage themed wedding came to life with the help of her best friend Paul Tsang-Diaz of floral designing company SPINA. The couple chose Brecknock Hall in Greenport, Long Island with a North Folk romance vibe in mind. “Guests were welcomed through a paths created of hundreds of Chartreuse Antique Hydrangeas,” says Paul. “The antique foyer table, which held the place cards, was dressed with an over-sized garland of Antique Hydrangeas that overflowed to the floor, accented with several petite mercury vases that held blush Feathered Peonies. The walkway was outlined with lanterns, hurricanes and white hydrangeas; at the end a Sperry tent with peaks and flowing flags awaited for the dinner and dance reception.”

“I’ve heard that this was one of the most romantic, exquisite and delicious weddings they had ever attended!” says Giselle. “They loved the how attentive the staff was and how delicious everything was.”
